Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show Years in
the Bonus with Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What up Doug Gottlieb Show in the Bonus Fox Sports Radio,
iHeartRadio app Welcome, Welcome, welcome, and I hope you're doing
great better than great.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
You know what's funny is sports teams are like car brands.
I do feel like, how heard breaking this one out?

Speaker 4 (00:35):
But it's true. Last night you watched the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
They have one loss in the year, a game they
probably should have won against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
And they're four and one.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
They beat the Chiefs, they've beaten the Niners, who are
four and one in San Francisco when the Niners were healthy.
And yet how many of us woke up today going,
you know, the Jaguars could go to the super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
They just you don't think that way.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
And I don't know if they can go to the
super Bowl, but it is very interesting that the brand
of the Jacksonville Jaguars is nothing that can help them,
and so we're just stuck on that brand and not
breathing out going you know, they're actually really good. Trevor
Lawrens He's not perfect, but there are times in which
he can be very very good. He's finally now experienced enough.

(01:17):
They have a good offensive line, defense is pretty good.
Travis Hunter was really good last night playing both sides
of the football.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
That was probably the breakthrough thing.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
You know, we've talked a lot about how you can't
be great at one when you're doing both, and that
may be true, but there is something to a guy
who can be really good at both, and last night he.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Was pretty good at both.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
But think about if it's other than the Jacksonville Jaguars
that are four and one, a win at San Francisco,
a win on Monday night at home against Kansastay Chiefs,
we're talking about Super Bowl, whereas the Jacksonville Jaguars this
is just brand alone. Because of the branding of the
last decade, right, they had one really good year. We
think no possible chance, but when you watch them actually play,
they have more than a possible chance.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
That's the power of brands.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
It's a lot like your you know, doesn't matter how
well made Jaguars are now from our childhood, when Jags
were constantly in the shop, that's what you think of them.
Ass You know Hyundai and Kia make luxury cars. They
want those South Korean companies want to compete with the Lexuses,
the Infinities, the even the accurates, and they have to

(02:25):
charge less for their cars because they don't have the
brand equity others have.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
It's the same thing with the Jaguars.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Land's Get to the Fox Says, and Now every day
in the Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Show, at this time, we play for your portion of
a previous show on Fox Sports one Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
We call it what does the Fox Say?

Speaker 2 (02:53):
This is Dan Patrick talking about the Jacksonville Jaguars win
last night.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Jacksonville did what you want to team, a playoff team
or a playoff worthy team do, and that is you're down,
you rely on your quarterback and you pull out the win.
So that's back to back wins. You've beaten the Niners.
In the Chiefs, you're four and one. Trevor Lawrence looks steady, defense, opportunistic.
Liam Cohen, the new head coach, he looks battle tested,

(03:20):
and Jacksonville is now four and one, tied with Buffalo
and tied with the Colts with the best record in
the NFL. By the way, the Jags four and one
start the best start through five games since two thousand
and seven when they started four and one. Who was
on the seven team. It's like Mark Brunell on there. Yeah, Paul,

(03:42):
I know.

Speaker 6 (03:42):
Fred Taylor is on there. He was their start. I
just looked up David Garrard.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Oh pro bowler, David Garrard.

Speaker 6 (03:50):
Yeah, he kind of came out of nowhere, had a
breakout year.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
Yeah, David Garard. Wow, I think that was his only
Pro Bowl. But he played well, he was tough.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Uh yeah, it's been it's been a minute for Jacksonville.
I think what's interesting is, and this happens every year,
we think one division is weaker than the rest, and
it may be because it's not like the Colts have
played the toughest of competition. They should have beaten the Rams.
Go back to last week and this is a Jacksonville

(04:20):
team that just beat Kansas City. But the assumption was
this is the division that can be had, and now
it's one of the better divisions in football. Here's Nick
Wright talking about the Bucks.

Speaker 7 (04:30):
What are the Bucks the best team in the NFC
have been from the beginning.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
We've been early on this incorrect.

Speaker 7 (04:37):
Listen, they unlike the Chargers or other I guess the Ravens.
The Ravens to a far worse extent. They suffered a
bunch of injuries too. They find a way to win.
They find a way to be in all of these games.
And then Bake show cooks down three with two seventeen

(05:01):
left in week one, get the ball, Baker delivers a victory,
ye down five, getting the ball with two ten left.
In Week two, Baker delivers a victory, down one with
a minute forty nine left. In Week three, Baker delivers
a victory, and yesterday, down a full seven with three
eighteen left, delivers a victory without having to go to overtime. Now,
obviously the interception Baker didn't do, but he then capitalized.

(05:24):
I don't This team is only going to get better.
Mike Evans is not there, Godwin is still you know,
getting back in the offensive line is injured. They didn't
have Bucky Irving and they're four and one.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah, we've said before the Baker is better when he's
the underdog. Now he's starting to, you know, trend towards
being the favorite, towards being the lead dog. So maybe
it's a little bit different, But yeah, I don't I
don't see that being a real detriment to them, just

(06:01):
because Atlanta's just okay, right, Atlanta's just okay. New Orleans
is terrible, terrible, Carolina's okay. And Tampa, yeah, they play
with fire and they play with their food, but they
do win these games late, and again, I just think
Baker this is how he likes to roll.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Now.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
They couldn't stop anybody, and they were very, very fortunate
that that Sam Donald pass hit his teammate in the
helmet and ricocheted into their arms. But before that they
had given up thirty five points to a Sam Donald
led team. I think Tampa's just okay. But I think
this is just the right level, just the right team
for Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Here's Colin Cowhert talking about Belichick.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Not every NFL coach would win in college, even though
NFL coaches on average are better than college coaches. I
always felt John Gruden and Rex Ryan, their personalities can
win in college. Nick Saban may have been gruff, but
he's so charming. And Nick Saban's got a personality and
he's a great storyteller. And Nick Saban likes the media.
He disagrees with the media. He can be rough on

(07:04):
the media, but Nick Saban kind of likes the media.
He joined the media. It's not performative. Nick's fun to
be around. Nick listens. Nick's fun, He's charming, he's smart,
Bill smart. But I just this is a I didn't
think it would be this bad. But you know, mac
Brown won twice at North Carolina.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
He won a lot of games.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
And he tweeted out a picture yesterday with Drake May
which may be a shot at Belichick. I'm not sure
because Belichick won't have anything to do with anybody that
plays for the Patriots. And again, it's all that grudge
holding and anger and that vendetta stuff because he doesn't
like Robert Kraft and bro. You got to get over it.
College I said this, the NFL is about upstairs. It's

(07:46):
about smart GMing and really good scheming. College football is
about talent. Because you only have seventeen hours a week
to coach. You're not gonna win with schemes. You need
bros you just gotta have talent.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
It is about talent more than about scheming. And but
you also, like we're talking about Belichick.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
It's in year one.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I mean, the problem with so many people in the
media is and again my expectations of Belichick weren't high
and they've probably underachieved. But remember like this is total
freeuency of a completely new team and now a new roster,
new coaching staff that's never that hasn't coached college football

(08:29):
at GM, that hasn't been in college football, and so
there's an adjustment period.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
We've had to makee it make it. They've made it.
That's what the Fox said.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Say.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Let's find out who What's annoying? Jason Stewart.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 8 (09:01):
Hey, Doug, I don't know if Vince Lombardi is buried
near you, but I think he's rolling around his grave.
I think Bill Parcells, I think he's still with us.
I think he goes down to Florida. He's rolling his eyes.
Jonathan Gannon gave into the mob. Jonathan Gannon gave his

(09:22):
player an earful after he made a selfish show off
decision and after twenty four hours of getting crap for it,
and there was some kind of like an angle about
how he he used a shoulder to nudge him as
he walked by or he hit him, I don't know. Anyways,
Jonathan Gannon took to his knees and gave into the mob.

(09:45):
In a press conference yesterday, I woke.

Speaker 9 (09:48):
Up this morning and didn't feel great about it, honestly,
and so in the team meeting, I addressed it. I
apologize though, Mary apologize to the team, and I just
told him I let the moment of what happened get
the better of me there, obviously, Like I try to

(10:08):
be emotionally stable and calm because my job is to
solve problems when during a game and kind of lead
the charge on that. So it's not really who I
am who I want to be, and I told the
guys that today. So it's a mistake by me, and
it's just like everybody in there. Everybody made some type
of mistake yesterday, which is, you know, call me in

(10:31):
as to why we didn't win. The game, and we
can't let it happen moving forward.

Speaker 8 (10:36):
If any play deserves a dressing down on the sideline
in front of the team, and if Gannon is right,
if his normal disposition is that he's calm, that means
that there's going to be more power behind him screaming
at a player. I hate that he had to apologize.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
I understand what you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
I just don't think you can bump into a player.
It was pretty obvious he did it on purpose. He
wouldn't have said it unless he did it on purpose.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
You can't do it. So I'm with you in.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Theory, but I'm a disagree with you here, Like you
just you can't do it, and you can't tell a
player to maintain his to maintain his focus and his balance,
and then you lose it and then you kind of
shoulder shove a player Like I'm sorry, Jayson, You're wrong

(11:32):
on this one.

Speaker 8 (11:33):
I think Hayes is rolling around his grave.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah what he Hayes punched a kid. That's why he
with a helmet on. That's why he's he wasn't coaching.

Speaker 8 (11:40):
Yep, that's the joke. Chris Jones gets paid a ton
of money and he look to have given up or
not tried real hard on that final play last night,
and he gave this as the reason.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
I'll talk multiple times.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
We had him and we just got to finish. We
got to finish. We had a multiple guys there that
we just got to finish that play.

Speaker 10 (12:01):
It was a fluke play for him to be able
to break that many tackles, But yeah, I put it
on this as a defense.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
We got to finish. We got to bring him down
on that.

Speaker 8 (12:10):
So I think what he's saying there, or what he's
implying there, is that he thought Trevor Lawrence was going
to go down, whether it be by his his teammates
or whatever, so he didn't have to. I thought, the
h isn't there an old phrase, you play through the whistle, Doug.
I don't know if you coach that. Play through the whistle.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
Yes, play at the end of the whistle.

Speaker 8 (12:29):
Yeah, I don't know what's going on there. He gets
paid a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yeah, I mean they did. They got the ball. They
got the ball when he tried to jump over the
line into the end zone but didn't get didn't get
it overall, and then yeah, he fell down and that's
a hard one, right, because it's very normal to be like, oh,
he's down and you stopped for a second.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
I don't think they they got down. He got up
just in time.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
It's crazy, weird play, crazy weird play, and it's funny,
like you feel like the Chiefs have won on plays
like that in the past, where you have Pat Mahomes
tied up and then all of a sudden he springs
loose and he throws a touchdown pass maybe to Tyreek
Hill or in the past or Trav or Jason Travis Kelcey.
But yeah, he does get paid a lot of money

(13:17):
to tackle guys keep them on the ground.

Speaker 8 (13:19):
So I don't know if this was a local story,
if this was a national story. But so yesterday King James,
Lebron James tweeted out that the second big decision is
tomorrow Tuesday, there were reports that the final home game
for the Lakers sold out and the secondary market was

(13:40):
going through the roof with selling tickets to the final
home game for the Lakers. Then Lebron James sweets out
today that the second decision was this partnership with Hennessy,
and then he quote tweets that partnership with a three emoji.
He's one of them with a thumb you know, thumbs

(14:02):
out type of deal, mocking people for falling for it.
What an asshole, right? I think one of the things
we've said on this show many times is that he
has never given any regard to his relationship with his
fan base of the team that he's on, and this
is just another fuck you to Waker fans. If he

(14:22):
is doing the right thing, if somebody's in his ear
being like, yeah, maybe we could, uh, maybe we can
correct this. He should. He should refund the game ticket
back to everybody who bought a ticket yesterday and be like,
my bad, I didn't mean for you to put next
month's rent on the final game of the Lakers season.

(14:44):
Let me cover that.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
It probably is his last game with the Lakers anyway,
so you're still gonna want to have it.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
You still want to have it.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
So uh But yes, I when I saw it and
then I saw that there's some random dude who has
set to interview him, I knew. I almost I felt
like I knew it was an ad but I did
leave at least the possibility that he was gonna announce
his retirement today or this is his last season.

Speaker 8 (15:07):
So Lebron James showing us he doesn't care about the
fans again, Chris Jones giving up on the final play,
and Jonathan Gannon bending to the mob.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Lebron James playing with our emotions?

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Why are we doing this because we can?

Speaker 8 (15:34):
Doug, I don't know how comfortable you are with this,
but you are aligned with former NBA player and former
number one overall draft pick Kwame brown You and him
are aligned, at least on this topic.

Speaker 10 (15:50):
We got high school players better than Brownie, absolutely got
high school players better than Brian. Bronnie was never the
best high school player on his team. He was never
the best college player on his team, and he still
gets twelve shots in a preseason game where everybody's auditioning,
where nobody normally passes the ball, everybody trying to get

(16:11):
their shit out because it's new people out there. It
ain't just you.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
I don't know there's high school players currently better than Briannie.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
I mean, look, he's a little bit better last night
in terms of shooting. He was awful the first night.
I don't think he should be an NBA player, let
alone a rotation NBA player. But and this is this
is how what Kwame Brown though, is saying, is what
guys in.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
The league actually say. You know that's what that's And
he's right.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
It's like, look, he's by the way, he's already going
to be on the team. So it's even worse that
they're playing him so much now because this is for
other guys. There's like three other point guards that are
trying to earn their spot to be in a backup
point guard with the Lakers, And now you get Brine James,
who's not a point guard, doesn't profess to be a
point guard, you know, taking up guys shots, taking up

(17:05):
the chance of development. I do agree with with Kwi Brown,
why can we play for you?

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Because we can't. That's it for the end of the
Mordents Podcast.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
