the sunny, wonderful city of Los Angeles, California, where Lois
Doyer's Try and Go have two games and none on
the Atlanta Braves. As you may have heard from the
(00:45):
great Dan Buyer, Cleveland and Houston still scoreless in Houston
the bottom of the third inning, and of course this
coming a day after a Rockies come back but then
ultimately a Brewer's win playoff. Baseball is here, four game
Fry Day is here. If you like baseball, today is
a great day. If you don't it like, it's like
it's cool, man like, don't worry about it. Got a
(01:06):
great fight in m m A. And you have c
this weekend. We've got some awesome college football to get
to and of course some premier NFL games and reaction
to last night's NFL game upcoming. Let me kind of
quickly set the table for you on what on the
guests we have coming on. Man, this is a really
good day. Congrats to Cindy Katz and to Ryan Music
who worked together to book this show. John Middlecoff, former
(01:27):
NFL Scout Three and Out podcast. If you haven't heard
the Three and Out podcast, go to Herd podcast Network.
You can check out my new All Ball podcast. It's
basketball and Middlecoff does football. He's awesome, great energy, incredible insight.
He'll be joining us here in fifteen minutes. John Clayton
is gonna join us. He's got his own website going now.
Um and uh, of course he's got a special spot
(01:47):
in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. John Clayton will
join us in just over an hour. And then Michael Lombardi.
So many of you text me or tweet me when
is Lombardi coming on this week? When can I learn
more about the NFL? Michael Lombardi, former GM author Scout,
will join us upcoming in the third hour of the show.
To twenty West Coast five, twenty East coast. So just
(02:08):
stick was here. We got picks to get to. Um
you got uh some interesting discussion on Cam Newton which
comes from a Twitter suddenly Twitter beef I have with
Marcella's Wiley Kyrie is the anti Lebron will tell you how.
And the biggest game of the weekend that might not
be might not be covered like the biggest game of
(02:30):
the weekend, but it may be a loser, pack your stuff,
your season is over type of game in the National
Football League. Man, do we have a lot to get to.
But let's start with the obvious. We told you so,
and we didn't tell you so because we knew how.
We just knew what. Right, Like I couldn't tell you
(02:52):
how if I watched two weeks ago. I think we
had Mark Schlayrath on two weeks ago, right, and I
was ready to hit the panic button, ready at the panic.
But I'm like, man, Tom Brady's in his forties. All
these rumors of discontent with him in Belichick. They they
traded away a guy who's killing it with the Rams
(03:14):
at wide receiver and don't appear to have enough talent
at wide receiver. You don't have speed defensively, not getting
in the back feel like, yeah, but we have eighteen
years of data to tell us don't bail on the Patriots, right,
we have recent history tellers, don't bail on the Patriots.
(03:34):
And what have they done of the past two weeks
in you know, in Division they thumped the Miami Dolphins
and then last night they take care of business against
the Indianapolis Colts, who did cut it to within a
touchdown and then they flex their muscles and Tom Brady
through his second touchdown past that's his five hundred of
his career. Here was Mark Slayer at three times Super
(03:56):
Bowl champion Fox NFL on Fox Analysts two weeks ago.
There's very few guys that ever were kind of the
actuators of offense that played wide receiver in New England.
It's unquestioned in my mind is Julian Edelman. And when
he does make his comeback after a suspension, I would
expect things to settle down a little bit for that offense.
(04:17):
But he is the guy that brings energy, He's the
guy that brings attitude. He's the guy that's always you know,
picking a fight. He is that guy that guy, right,
you can't the the thing about sports that stat Guy misses,
and I understand that stat guy has had a bigger
role in sports in the last ten years than in
(04:40):
all the hundred years before combined from what the A's
have done over the last twenty five years or twenty
years or so to what the Houston Rockets are doing
to analytics now creeping into football. Stat guy suddenly has
a seat at the table. He used to be the
dorky zip popping guy who just did we used to
be called rotisserie baseball. Now fantasy guy has become analytics guy,
(05:02):
and they have a spot at the table. But the
reason that most of them don't run the meetings, most
of them don't coach the teams. I mean, look, it's
the most interesting thing from this Red Sox Yankees series,
which is the Yankees fought Joe Girardi, their former manager,
tooth and nail for him to use more analytics, and
(05:23):
so instead they settle upon Aaron Boone who will use analytics.
But Aaron Boone was born into a baseball family. His
grandpa played, his dad played and managed, he played, his
brother played, now he's managing. He covered the game like
baseball is. He was born basically on a baseball field,
and you're gonna take away all that inherent in ainate
(05:44):
knowledge and just go like, well the numbers say this,
well like look, numbers do have a Numbers are important,
but so too are intangibles. Intangibles and Julian Edelman seven
catches fifty seven yards, those are in hordened. But they
get James White going, They get Gronk six catches. Now,
(06:04):
Josh Gordon catches that touchdown pass, albeit it was thrown
into double coverage and frankly underthrown and he made an
incredible adjustment. They get Philip Dorset working as well. So
I think it's it's really fascinating to see the intangibles
that Edelman has, the evolution of Tom Brady within this offense.
How they figured out Sony Michelle can be in every
(06:27):
down back uh, and he can chew up some yards
and chew up some clock and give that defense which
is you can give that give that defense some time
off the football field. We didn't know how, like nobody
really knew like how they gonna we I don't know.
Like the only fallback you can have in the Patriots was, well,
you know, their divisions thinks, you know, should be pointed out,
(06:50):
their next two games are against two of the elite
teams in the NFL. One the best offense in the NFL.
That's the Chiefs next Sunday night. Then they turn around.
They play on the road against the Bears, arguably the
best defense, the most dynamic pass rushing the league. And
then they get the Bills, the Packers, the Titans. They
still have some tough teams before they settle back into
division at home. But here are the New England Patriots,
(07:14):
who I mean look dead as a doornail against the Jags,
crushed by the by the Lions, who have been utterly
and completely unimpressive otherwise. At one and two, everybody was
grabbing a bucket saying, maybe this boat's got a hole
that is not fixable. I didn't know how it was
(07:35):
gonna happen. Nobody I knew knew how it was gonna Well,
the Edelman and they'll just they'll figure it out. And
sure enough, that's exactly what they have done. They found
a way to figure it out. So here's what I
want you to do. When when you're driving right now
(07:55):
and you're sitting at your desk, you're listening to this
podcast you're going into a a me eating or you're
you're gonna meet with some buddies tonight to watch some baseball,
tomorrow watch some college football, or maybe to watch the
Fight or maybe Sunday repeat after me. Never count out
the Patriots. Never count out the Patriots. Right, This is
(08:18):
Kansas basketball in the Big Twelve. This is Alabama football.
It's just the thing they figure it out. And the
difference in a this in an Alabama football Ittimore, Kansas
Basketball's no know what they look like early in the year,
Like the end of the year, you're like, man, they're
gonna win their division and they're gonna be in the playoffs.
(08:41):
The sun rises in the East and sets in the West,
and the New England Patriots of the team to beat
in the a f C East, and you're just gonna
have to deal with probably going to Foxboro for a
playoff game if you want to get to the Super Bowl.
I know, YEA. By the way, I can't help but
point out that I got into a bit of a
(09:01):
Twitter kerfuffle with Marcellus Wiley, a longtime friend and now
new colleague at Fox as he wants to point out
that Andrew luck is overrated. Um, did you watch last night?
I mean, let's let's seriously break down what we saw.
The Indianapolis Colts have zero talent none. They don't have talent.
(09:28):
Their best receiving option is Eric Ebron, who the Lions
watched walk out the door. They have no running game,
that's why he throws it so often, and they have
no defense at all. They should have at least tied
the Titans last week, and they were, Uh, they were
at least competitive last night. Andrew Luck, off of shoulder surgery,
(09:52):
hadn't played in two years. Are you aware he's leading
the league in passing yards Now? Some of that is
because his team stinks, but some that is because Andrew
Luck is he's not as good as he was he
was built to be. He's actually better. He's not underrated.
He's not overrated, he's underrated. Like I get people who
(10:15):
and this is what Marcella's tweeted was, you know Cam Newton, guys,
get onto Cam Newton and look at Cam Newton's record.
Like dude, Cam Newton plays for a competent organization. Cam
Newton played with one of the top defenses in football.
Cam Newton's team had been built around offensive line, and look,
Cam Newton. This isn't the media calling out Cam Newton.
(10:36):
If you think the media is anti Cam Newton, the
media voted him m v P. The media voted him
Heisman Trophy winner. There's no more false narrative in the
history of sports than the media doesn't like Cam Newton
because the media voted him for the two most prestigious awards,
one in college and one in the NFL. So you're
gonna have to You're gonna have to try another route
(10:59):
there like oh out there just against like no, not.
We just realized he's not an accurate passer. We just
realized he's not great in the red zone. You know
how we realized that because two former Star wide receivers,
Steve Smith, a borderline Hall of Famer, and Calvin Benjamin
both said the exact same thing about playing with Cam Newton.
You know he didn't not it's not really that accurate
(11:21):
or that good in the red zone and reading progressions
and being accurate. And no one's disputing any of this.
No one's disputing in this. Andrew Luck plays with a
crumby team. He inherited the worst team in the National
Football League, a team that had gotten completely old and
(11:43):
that parted ways with parts feel like well they tried
to get be bad after when Peyton Manning was hurt.
They it wasn't just they tried to be bad. They
were bad. They were accomplishing their tasks. Pat, Yes, I man,
this is like well they were. They weren't tanking. They
were just bad. They were awful. Their star players all
(12:07):
got old collectively at once, from Bob Sanders retired to
the two Rush ends that they parted ways with. Edrin
James was gone, Peyton Manning was gone, like all the
stars that had been a dominant team for a decade,
they were all gone. And then they had a complete
idiot as their general manager and they were poorly coached
outside of that. Outside of that, Mrs Lincoln, how is
(12:29):
the show? Need I remind you that Chuck Pogano called
a fake punt where they directly snapped it to a
wide receiver who was playing under center and he was
surrounded by five New England Patriots. Do you guys remember
when that happened? Their general manager traded for Trent richardson
trade a first round picked the fourth pick in the draft.
(12:50):
They traded for Trent Richardson when everybody in the league
knew he stunk. Their intentions were to surround him with
a better team than Peyton Manning was. That's what their
owners said, Hey, you know, we we had Peyton Manning.
We only got into a couple of Super Bowls. We
want now, we want to win a couple, at least
a couple with Andrew Luck. You only have guys like
this ever so often, and they've done the opposite of that. Dude,
(13:12):
they're terrible. And oh yeah, by the way, not only
are they at a talent deficit in comparison to the
Patriots were on a crazy talented team, but Frank Wreik
wasn't supposed to be their head coach, Josh McDaniels was,
and their best offensive weapon outside of Luck was t
Y Hilton. He didn't play last night. They without six starters.
(13:37):
A team is not any good anyway without six starters,
including their best pass catcher. So to the Andrew Luck
is overrated. The actual answer, if you ask anybody in
the NFL, they'll say, yeah, exactly, he's underrated. He's kind
of awesome. If you thought he wouldn't come back and
throw a football, why is he leading the league in
passing yards. They're actually competitive with a completely to leading roster,
(14:03):
and the media doesn't hate Cam Newton. The media voted
in m v P and Heisman Trophy winner. His own
former teammates are the ones that have taken shots at him.
All right, Coming up next, John Middlecof is gonna join us.
He's got the Three Out podcast. It's really good. We'll
get snippets of it. Um. He's got strong takes on
the Raiders, what we can expect to see them against
(14:24):
the Chargers. And oh yeah, by the way, is this
a winner going home for the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's up
coming next. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug dot Leap Show weekdays at noon eastern three pm

The Herd now UH network and the Football Only podcast
has done by John Middlecoff, former NFL scout. He has
great stuff. On Facebook as well if you follow him.
(15:05):
Just really Insightful. Also writes for The Athletic It's got
great energy. Um, there no holds barred opinion. There's not
one of these opinions like, well, you know he's soft
on somebody, and uh no, not so much. John Middlecoff
joins this part of the Three and Out podcast on
the Herd podcast Network. He joins us in the Doug
Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Let's start with last night.
(15:26):
Let me just let me just go off my last take.
I get that people thought that maybe there's this assumption
Andrew Luck was gonna walk on water, was gonna cure
all diseases, and was gonna win a Super Bowl immediately
for the Indianapolis Colts. I look at it as the
guy didn't play football for two years. Here he is
leading the NFL in passing yards. And granted, I understand
part of that is he's on a crumby team and
(15:47):
with no running game. But I think he looks pretty good.
I think he's been pretty good, and he's just been
surrounded by poor coaching, terrible GM and really marginal talent.
I'm I'm all in. I actually think he might be underrated,
not overrated. What's your take on Andrew Luck now that
we've seen him for for was it four games so far?
Five games so far this season? Yeah? I mean I
(16:08):
completely agree with you, Doug. I mean, to come back
after not playing that long, and let's not act like
he's playing with Julio Jones and Jerry Rice. I mean,
who who are these fall football? I feel as closely
as anyway, I don't know any of those guys inside,
Eric Ebrown, he's playing with me. That's amazing, like your
depth of knowledge. I listen to podcast, I've I've all
(16:29):
your rants on on Facebook. I love the idea that
you don't know who he's throwing too is mind blowing
to me. And and and I think a lot of
people that fall college football really closely probably don't either.
Beside Eric Kebron, who are these guys the moment t
Y Hilton can't play? I mean he just I I
live in the Bay Area and people complain all the
(16:50):
time about the Niners lack of weapons. I mean, Andrew
Luck would die for Pierre Garson or George Kittle to
play with. I mean the guys last night, him even
to be competitive and They've really been pretty competitive this
entire season. I mean, their defense is atrocious. And like
you said, I mean he started I worked with Ryan Grigson.
I mean, let's call what, it's one of the worst
(17:11):
gms in the history of pro sports. The run he
had you take away Luck that it was handed. I mean,
that was the number one overall pick. Mom could have
made that for him to ruin that. I mean, that
guy Andrew Luck took the worst team football to three
straight playoff seasons. One year his head coach got sick
and obviously Bruce Arians turned out to be up excellent
(17:34):
play called. But then Bruce left and the next two
years one playoff games on the road. Yes with with
with and and look and looked at Chuck. Chuck Pagano
is by all accounts a great guy and a good
defensive guy. But he was an awful head coach. Right.
The only reason they kept him was because he had cancer.
They would have preferred to keep Arians. Like I'm just
you know, like this is kind of it wasn't a
(17:55):
well coached team. It wasn't well put together team. Um,
and you know, so you and I are are kind
of lockstep on it. What about and think and think
about this dog in a league that's it's never been
easier to find running backs, you know, mid round guys,
undrafted creations like the guy the Denver Broncos got Philip Lindsay.
The Colts consistently cannot find anyone that looks the Heinz guy.
(18:19):
Looked at Flash last night a little bit, but I mean,
they can't find just a solid starter to save the lighter.
John Mikolkoff joining us in the Doug got Lip Show
on Fox Sports Radio. A couple of weeks ago. I
had to talk people off the ledge. I was like, look,
I don't know how they looked, so say, looked like
they were They looked like they were playing in rookie
mode and the Jaguars were playing in all pro mode
(18:42):
in Madden. Right. I don't know how, but I just
I'm not gonna doubt the Patriots that they'll figure it out. Right.
They used the first four games to kind of figure
it out. They got that them in back. They seemed
to found a used for Philip Dorsett. You know, Josh
Gordon had two catches, including the five touchdown pass of
Tom Brady's career. I know that the Colts aren't very good,
(19:05):
and I don't I think the Dolphins are a little
bit of phonies. But to win two in a row
and to suddenly have an extra couple of days prepared
for the Kansas City Chiefs, I feel like they've proven
yet again you can never, doubt, never count out the Patriots,
no matter what how bad they look first four games
of the year. I also think people just for that
just it's natural in this day and age, because it's
(19:26):
been a while since he played. How important Edelman? I mean,
he's great. Brady's go to pass is getting rid of
the ball within two seconds and Edelman, that's he that
those are the routes He runs right across the middle,
sitting open his own coverage. That's Tom Brady's boy. And
when he comes back, even if Josh Gordon hadn't arrived,
(19:46):
there so much better on an offense just with him.
And the other thing is Sony Michelle. He got banged
up in training camp and anyone to watch college football
last year, that guy's big time and he's kind of
starting to get a feel for the Patriots or notorious
for being really hard on young guys, you know, to
learn the offense. He's gonna get more and more comfortable.
Their offense is gonna be fine. It's just gonna be
(20:07):
I mean at the end of the year. And it
typically comes down to this for them in January. Can
they get stopped when they needed to. The last couple
of years, they have and that the reason they've been
in the Super Bowl and even one one. But this year,
you know, it's kind of hold on for deue life.
I don't know next year. Next week against the Chiefs
is gonna be I think it's a swimming night game.
Is You're gonna be an awesome test for them? Yeah? Um?
(20:30):
What what about the Chiefs? They match up with the
Jaguars and everybody rightfully is going crazy over Pat Mahomes.
I talked to some front of as people who are like, dude,
the Mahomes thing is real and this is before the
season never began. Um, he's coming off a week and
it was granted it was another road game in Denver.
That's probably his worst performance, you know, in his five
starts as as a pro. But you know, surprising was
(20:52):
their defense got a couple of stops against the Denver Broncos,
something they hadn't done all season long. What are your
thoughts on the Jaguars, who have a little bit better
offense that people give credit, although it's not healthy with
four net and their defense going against that speed of
the Chief's offense. Yeah, it's gonna it's a tough environment.
I mean, it's only gonna be the second time that
this phenomenon of Patrick Homes Mahomes has played in Kansas City.
(21:14):
I mean, it's kind of crazy that they started four
and oh and they only had one home game in September.
You usually go, you know, young quarterback starts four and oh,
he probably had three home games. Well, it's kind of
the opposite. Now they're playing a little bit with house money,
getting all these home games in a place that you know,
it's probably in the NFL, might be right up there
with the best home field advantage in the league. And
(21:35):
this fan base is gonna be going nuts. So for
Blake Bortles and that offense is gonna be difficult. But
defense travels and their defense can play against anyone. Now,
I like the guy and he's entertaining, but god, I'm
all for Jitalen Ramsey when he's taking shots to be
Andy Dalton's and the Josh Allens but you know, when
you riff like the Gronkowskis and the Tyree Hills, I
(21:56):
start to, you know, your talk lose a little Western
with me. Like re Kill is a superstarker. He's not
just some flash in the pan, like he can't do
it all. And I think that's gonna be a big
time matchup. I don't care how good you are as
a DV with the rules. It's basically Jenna Ramsey can't
cover him one on one. It's just it's read and
(22:19):
Mahomes are not going to be scared. You know, go
deep with that guy. Um, I guess the question becomes
and I agree with you on Jalen Ramsey. Jalen Ramsey
also said he could learn to skate in a week
and play in the National Hockey and and play the
National Hockey League and like once you said that, yeah,
he's like me. He's like he's like Draymond on steroids,
like a little much man just just pumped the brakes
(22:39):
a little. Yeah, I mean, like, look, if you, if you,
if you, if you want to say you want to
say something about drunk or whatever or Tyreek Hill. He
didn't have to say. He's just a kick and most
of his success in the kick game. But when I'm
not even a hockey guy. But the idea, the idea
you can learn to skate in a week or a
month or whatever. Yeah, um okay, So will the lead
(23:00):
catch up to Kansas City's offense? You know, typically it's
been said ever since I was alive, Right, young quarterbacks,
they always eventually get exposed. But I just think the
rules have dramatically changed. What can you really do besides
Bliitz and Denver did well? If your quarterbacks athletic enough
just to get out of the way, and you have
(23:21):
a good enough offensive coach, Uh, you know, coach up
these hot reads and different looks for a quarterback. And
the one thing Andy probably in my lifetime of watching
football is the best at is a screen caller. Like
he's incredible at calling screens fors quarterback. He was great
in Philly, He's obviously excellent in Kansas City. That can
always kind of negate a Bliitz. So what are you
(23:44):
gonna do? You know, these receivers don't have to worry
about getting lit up over the middle. Uh. It's so
hard to press now because they call you for defensive
holding all the time, the quarterbacks don't really need to
be worried about getting hit that. I think it's harder
than ever to just like catch up to the offenses. Now,
is the kid gonna have a bad game. Eventually, he's
(24:04):
gonna have one of those three pick games? Just human nature.
But you just think that these defenses are going to
catch up. I don't know if I see that. Now
here's the other kind of elephant in the room. It
is if they let's say they get home field advantage.
I mean, Kansas City in January is not gonna be new.
I'm just gonna be really cold, hard to throw, even
(24:25):
if you do have a good arm. So they're not
gonna be able to pass it forty times in a
in a playoff game. But they do have a really
good running game. The problem for me with Kansas City,
their offense is probably not gonna be the downfall. Their
defense is atrocious and it's not like they have that coaching.
They just don't have any good players. You you you
mentioned you live in northern California. Johnadalkoff joining us. You
(24:46):
want to have some fun? Uh? Download the Three and
Out podcast part of the Herd podcast. Now whek he
joins us Weekly here in the Doug Guilis. She also
writes for The Athletic, You want to have some fun.
Listen to his his rants on the Raiders. You know
a ton about what's going on with the Raiders and
the remarks that Chucky makes about Reggie mackenzie kind of
not so subtle jabs um. But they've actually looked pretty
(25:08):
good offensively and defensively. They've improved. You know, they spit
away a couple of games, like the Miami game on
the road. I thought that was on Derek Carr, that
terrible interception. They win last week against the Cleveland Browns.
Now they're playing a virtual home game. I gotta be
nine Raider fans against the Chargers, who are two and two.
The Chargers beat the bad dude lose to the good teams.
What happens in l A this weekend? You know, like
(25:31):
you said night, it might be like I thought yesterday,
they someone tweeted out that they were piping in crowd
noise to you know at Charger front. That's crazy. You
know that's that? Well you know what, John, You know, well, John,
you know what what that is? That there's there's two things.
Carson is an epicenter of all Raider fandom, and there
are legit Charger fans. They don't want to deal with
(25:52):
Raider fans. I'm just like Raider fans. Do you think,
do you think there's any chance and they eventually go
back or they from good? No, I think they're there
in LA for good. I don't think. I know. There's
been zero discussion of them going back. They think that
the new stadium will will cure everything. Um new stadium
is really really big, really big, and going to be
beautiful and obscene. I don't know if it'll cure everything,
(26:14):
but I do not think there's any chance they go
back in in the in the near future. Well, you know,
it's pretty bad. I mean, Philip Rivers one of my
favorite players in recent memory. Their team is really talented,
Like the Raiders shouldn't win this game, but like you said,
their offense is playing well. The Chargers are weird. They
just keeping games. I mean, the Niners could have won
that game that they were in that game last week,
(26:35):
but just on paper, the Chargers are better. But say
one thing about Gruden, and he's taken a lot of
crafts and rightfully so. For his personnel moves. He's been
a solid coach. He's dialing up plays. Last week he
had a couple of big plays. They've had big plays
all four games that they just haven't hit. But the
guy has been opened coaching and the opense has not
(26:56):
necessarily been his problem. Uh, they were they had leads,
Like you said, the Miami game, derectly the bad pick.
They were up I think eighteen or seventeen, the seven
in the Denver game Week two on the road in
the fourth quarter. Uh So I would expect them to
be in the team. I would say the Raiders more
than any team in the league. If you just look
at their schedule from here on out, most teams you
(27:18):
can kind of go win lost, lost, win whatever up
their schedule. With the Raiders, you know, you could convince
win one game the rest of the season, or they
get it back together and they like compete for a
wild card. I mean, honestly, everything is on the table
just because they have such a big Uh just swing
it in every game that they can have drives where
they look like a playoff team, and then they can
(27:39):
have drives where they look like they will be drafting
in the high end of the lottery, So I they're
an impossible game to pick. But I do know, like
you said, the Raider fans are gonna be there big time.
It's gonna be loud. And I do think the Raiders,
just the players that they do, take a lot of
pride and go into Los Angeles and like having a
second you know, basically because they lose the home game
every year because they have to go to Europe or
(28:02):
or Mexico because the league let him move. So I
do think they treat this is kind of like a
home game. John Middlecoff joining us in the Doug Gottled Show,
If I say Rams best team in football and the
argument now just because they're more complete than Kansas City
and even New England. Now I don't feel good just
about saying the Rams are going to go to the
(28:24):
Super Bowl. Jared gott did not play a meaningful game
in college. He's played a couple meaningful games before this
year in the Pros, last year down the stretch, you know,
like against the Eagles they went up and beat Seattle
in a big game, and then obviously the playoffs game,
which he did not play well. Now he looks like
a different guy. But like the playoffs. We we see
(28:45):
it every year, Like there's just a different pressure of
just it's not like baseball, where you play every day
and you have seven games series, you just get one
shot and if you're off, and if they are a
fourteen or fifteen win team. Now it's a little different
because the way, you know, especially you know in l A,
like the pressure wouldn't be like New York or Philly,
but there would be a lot of national pressure on
(29:05):
this team. You know, if that Week two in the playoffs,
they get a home field by and they're playing let's
say Cam Newton or Drew Brees, I guess I can't
just say that they would be a lock to win
that game. Now they're clearly headed to the playoffs and
they're gonna probably unless of something bad injury, have a
home field by. But I don't know. I mean, I
(29:26):
I'd probably if I got seven points with Drew Brees,
I'd probably bet on the Saints, you know, until I killed,
until Jared Gott proved that he's comfortable in a January game. Now.
The other thing they have going for him though, is
you know, it's not the weather. It's going to be perfect,
and they're probably more. They're built like a California team,
better in sunny weather and in the Dome, uh than
(29:49):
they would be like, you know, playing outside in Philly
or something in the cold. But I still think Jared's
gotta have to win a game. It's just the natural
evolution of any player in any you know, major sport.
Until you can feel confident picking him in a in
a playoff game, no, no question about it. A couple
more quick ones. Uh, it feels like Pittsburgh, this is incredible.
(30:09):
You can't you can't lose another game if you're Pittsburgh
at home against the Falcons. How important is this week?
Is they wait for Levy on the return. I think
there are three teams that it's kind of crazy, but
it's already must win for them, Pittsburgh, in Atlanta and Minnesota.
I mean all three of those teams you would have
basically written in pen at the beginning of the season
(30:29):
that's going to the playoffs. And Atlanta would be you know,
they'd be one in four, Minnesota would be one three
and one in Pittsburgh would be one three and one.
Like you you just can't. You can't start like that
and make the playoffs. It's just hard to get the
ten wins. Uh, Pittsburgh, Yeah, they just it's been a
weird year with the Levion thing. Clearly the organization hasn't
(30:52):
handled it well. Levian didn't handle it well. I would
just guess I don't know anyone with the Steelers that
they probably imagine that just how's the guy gotta turned
down fourteen and a half million. He was just gonna
show up and he kind of called their bluff and
didn't show up in and and then obviously with the
offensive lineman said, it just threw off their season. Atlanta
has had so many injuries. In Minnesota's just lost a
(31:14):
couple of tight games. But all three of those teams
that and they're good, especially Minnesota. Atlanta you watch like
they have clear strength. Their offense is so strong, but
those two defenses have really let them down. And the
Steelers just you know, all around defense, their defense gets crushed,
their their offense has been a little off. To John

That must mean that Houston has put a up more
(31:55):
on the board. Alex Bregman, who solo home run. Josh
Reddick has added an RBI sing all. The Astros finally
got to Corey Kluber in the Indians strolls up to
nothing in the top of the fifth inning and Game
one of their American League Divisional Series. No one has
gotten to Astro starter Justin Verlander just yet. Through four
innings of work, Verlander has not allowed a hit. Rockies

been ruled out with his hamstring injury. Vikings running back
Dalvin Cook has his own hamstring strain. He's a game
time decision for their match up against the Eagles. Bengals
running back Jovanni Bernardo two to four weeks with an
MCL sprain. The team also plays tennant Tyler Eiffert on

You know why I know that, Dan Buyer. Why is that, Doug?
Because I'm psychic John. I'm on the email list, John.
The game today is psychic. All right, Let's see if
(34:25):
you can see this far ahead? Psychic? Well, justin Verland
or flinch in today's game one of the A L
d S against the Indians. Sure doesn't feel that way,
feels over. They're up to nothing right now and it
feels over. Uh So by flinch Ron we'll say allOur run.
He may allow run, he may allow home run because
he's you know, he's gonna throw the ball hundred and
(34:45):
fifteen miles an hour as the game goes on and
balls just fly out of that park, especially when the
doma is cole closed. Um, but he will not he
will not surrender this lad. Verlander is a no hitter
right now through five innings of work, Astros up on
the Indians to nothing in their game one, bottom of
five in here? Am I wrong? I'm I'm watching this
thing as you are feels over? Yeah, it does. It
(35:07):
was I whoever and I used the term flinch, But
whoever was going to flinch first, I think got a
huge advantage. And now I mean Verlanders got seventy five
pitchers through five innings. Um, maybe maybe they can they
can get him out in the seventh or eighth and
the Indians have a chance. But yeah, right now, like
Houston's momentum for sure, Doug and Psychic, what road team
(35:30):
gets the first win of the divisional series in all
of baseball road team so far? The two home teams
one last night we got a home team up right now,
what road team gets a win first? I'm gonna say
it's uh, I'm gonna say it's the Atlanta Braves Night
(35:50):
Braves against Clayton Kershaw. By the way, he was not
was not good in his last start. No, no, George
Springer just hit a solo home run of the ask Rows.
Three nothing. Houston now on top of the Indians to
the bottom of the fifth inning, moving to the and
I felt psychic. The Jets and Broncos go ahead to
head this Sunday. So which coach head coach will be
(36:12):
with their team longer, Todd Bowls of the Jets or
the Broncos Vance Joseph. Well, that's a good question. Um,
I think Todd Bowles ends up remaining as head coach
longer than Vance Joseph. Van jose is hung on by
the skin of his chinny chin chin. Being the first
coach to surrender a game a loss leading by double
(36:36):
digits in the fourth quarter at home in the sixties
six games, sixty second times they've done it. That's not good.
And remember they started out winning three of the playing
three of the first four at home. They finished up
with a bunch of road games. I think Denver is
gonna make a coaching change more quickly than the Jets.
Wild psychic. Is this the week the Arizona Cardinals finally
get a win, the last winless team in the league.
(36:59):
They are at San Francisco this weekend. Uh no, no,
staying windless is Arizona. Savi's just wasn't mad last week
in in l A against against the charge that their
injuries continue to pile up. But no, I do I
do not believe j. Bethard is a serviceable backup quarterback.
He's actually, I think what you would expect in a
(37:19):
backup quarterback. Yeah, psychics, another home run the l I
am not I looked away for a second to back
to back jack in Houston for nothing Astros in the
fifth inting psychic. Will Anthony Davis be a Boston Celtic
(37:41):
by one? Of course, there was a report that Kyrie
Irving has been talking to Davis about becoming a Celtic.
Will Anthony Davis be a Celtic by I do not
believe so. Um, remember that they have cap problems, They've
got young guys are gonna have to be re up
new contracts. I do not think that they out Horford
is not as good as Anthony Davis. He also doesn't
(38:03):
make as much money as Anthony Davis, and they'd have
to part ways with Al Horford, who I think is
a guy that he's kind of a fundamental blueprint sort
of part of the architecture of that team is to
have no ego, true professional. Would they like to have
Anthonys They love to I just don't see it happening. Psychic.
Who wins Saturday? Cabib Or Connor McGregor, Oh, Coulbe likes
(38:27):
to go to the ground, right, He's a grappler against
Connor McGregor. I'm gonna go with cabib Kabeb just seems
like a bad dude. Man. Where's conn McGregor. He's he
is much more about the brand than he is about
the fighting. I'm gonna go with Cabebe. And in our
final minute that we've got is John Ramos just yelled
two minutes into my ear Psychic, how many points will
Kevin Durant score in tonight's return to Seattle? So there's
(38:49):
exhibition whops Kevin Durant and the Warriors taking on the
King's tonight as Durant plays in the city that he
used to play in. Steve Kerson he could get like
forty shots tonight. Really just joking, but you know, it's
kind of stub This is game time on the Duck

do we tell you to never doubt the New England
Patriots as some of it is they were playing an
undermanned and frankly crumby Indianapolis Colts team. Some of it
is they were getting Julian Edelman back and Dronk playing
through injury, playing at home. Some of it is, like
(40:16):
you just learned, I'm not counting out the Patriots no
matter how bad they look in September. Boy, this is
two straight uh crumbing postseasons for Corey Kluber, in't it? Oh?
Back to back home runs just lifted for the Cleveland Indians.
They're down for nothing right now. And it felt over
going back before the back to back home runs. Now
(40:38):
it essentially is over. Houston is dynamic at home. That
ball flies out of the yard they have and you
put justin Verland around the hill. Yikes. Yeahike's hard to
be hard to beat in a team that scuttled some
during this season with a little World Series hangover, Still
some competitive dudes, and look like they're on track here
(40:59):
just early in game one of the A L. D. S.
Doug Gotlich Show here on Fox Sports Radio, A lot
to get to. John Clayton will join us this hour
talk some NFL stuff. You know, it's interesting as as
much as we tell you not to freak out about
early season NFL. Right, don't freak out about the Patriots.
(41:20):
Don't freak out about hot starts with the team like
like the Kansas City Chiefs, Right, don't don't just don't
freak out. I do think you have permission to panic
if you're one of these two teams and you come
up with an owl. Look at the a f C.
Look at the a f C North Bengals are three
(41:43):
and one with the Dolphins come to their place. Baltimore
takes on Cleveland. Now, look, there is a scenario in
which Cincinnati losing Tyler, Ifford loses at home to Miami,
and Baltimore loses to Cleveland and moved to three and
two on the season. But the likelihood is, you know,
both those teams are mild to substantial favorites, and the
(42:05):
Pittsburgh Steelers sit at one two and one, one two
and one, and this is a team that has hopes.
They had beliefs that last year they were the best
team in the a f C. If not for the
catch rule. They gotta go to Cincinnati next week. They
still gotta go to Baltimore. They gotta go to Jacksonville.
They gotta go to Denver, they gotta go to Oakland.
(42:27):
They got the Pats who always seem to beat them.
They gotta go to New Orleans take on the Saints.
That's what Pittsburgh has upcoming. Then you have the Atlanta Falcons,
who lost an overtime game to the Saints lost by
one point to the Bengals. UM had a chance to
beat the Eagles on the road Week one season, But
there's still just one in three. They still have to
(42:50):
go to Washington, to Cleveland, to New Orleans, to Green Bay,
to Carolina and Tampa. But I would submit to you
that whoever loses this game, boy, you are in bad shape.
That is that is uphill sledding. It feels like a
You know, the Steelers are a team that feel close
(43:10):
to implosion for whatever reason, whether it's Levan or Big
Ben or not having Shase here in the leadership on
defense and the confusion they had earlier this year on
on defense against Tampa Buccaneers. Whatever it is that that's
not Tampa, who wasn't who came in and beat him
at their place and they were Kansas City. Kansas City
had them pointing fingers and it was a mess. Whatever
(43:35):
it is with Pittsburgh, who's a damn good team. And
I realized that they have a coach who's never coached
the team, Mike Thomas, never have a team finished below five.
But he also doesn't have a Levy on for the
first six weeks of the season. He's not gonna have
Chase here. And the offense, though good, is not as
(43:55):
explosive as people would lead you to believe. And the
schedule is formidable at least you look at the games
and you go around the NFL. Miami Cincinnati feels like
Miami has gotta win that one before they got Chicago
at home. Giants and Carolina. Carolina has had one of
that early by but man, they seem better. It's a
(44:18):
Tennessee you want to take care of Buffalo to playoff
teams last year Denver against the Jets, I told you
and part of my five for five, I'm picking the
Jets straight up to win at home Denver in the
short week. Jacksonville, Kansas City is really more, that's more
of the elite game. Minnesota Philadelphia is a game that
we thought would be elite, but Philadelphia hasn't performed up
(44:40):
to snuff and Minnesota is really really injured. Rams Seattle
feels like it should be bigger than it actually is.
But the Rams kicked Seattle's asked last year in Seattle.
No reason to think they won't do it. Dallas Houston,
I don't know. I'm telling you, I feel like this
Atlanta Pittsburgh game might be the most interesting, might be
(45:01):
the one that is the most decisive in eliminating a
team from playoff contention. It doesn't mean cancel Christmas if
you lose, but it's sure it feels like don't buy
green bananas. I look at that game, and I think
either team, especially Pittsburgh Atlanta has been really close, but
(45:23):
not traditionally a great road team. Atlanta has been really
close all three games that they have lost. But still
at some point, you've got four losses early and you
still got more divisional games to come. You figure, more
divisional games, more divisional losses. Pittsburgh seems to be teetering, tetering.
(45:43):
Sometimes we we have a tendency to highlight the games
that have the fewest number of losses by them, when
this is a more interesting, maybe more decisive, maybe more
important game long term, long term or at least long
term meaning at the end of this NFL season. So
I'm I'm fascinating by my picks upcoming next hour. Also
(46:05):
John Clayton this hour and who's Who's next hour? Music
could remind me Michael Lombardi is gonna join us next hour?
Um I told you something over the summer. I have
good sources in Boston, and I've never been somebody, Um,
(46:25):
I've never been somebody who reacts to rumors around the
NBA when I can call people in the NBA. Now,
I'll admit the people I talked to when they told
me about Kyrie Irving this summer, they're like, look, we're
not gonna sit here and tell you we know exactly
what he's thinking. But boy, based upon the way he acts,
the things he says to us, doesn't feel like he's
(46:50):
gonna go somewhere. Just though either he's completely duping us
that we have been we have been duped, we have
been fooled, or or here's the other possibility, um or
he's not going anywhere. He loves the professionalism, he loves
(47:10):
playing for Brad. He plays for the best GM in
the NBA. They got a chance to win a couple
of championships, a coach who everyone knows can do it,
players around him, and they've got young guys who are
gonna get better. They're not gonna get worse barring injury.
The Celtics are the favorite to come out of the East.
That puts him head up with a team like the Warriors,
and the Warriors have a ton of decisions to make
(47:33):
this offseason, and the only decision to make this offseason
for the Celtics is is Kyrie coming back. Take a
listen to what Kyrie Irving said on on the court
at Boston Garden yesterday during their fan fest. It's quite
important and uh, I'm I appreciate descout. I join him,
but I shared it with some of my teammates as
(47:53):
well as the organization and everyone else in Boston. You
guys will have me back. I planned on resigning here
next year. You guys didn't play the crowd noise. You
didn't play the reaction. Ramos ramas like Ramos is at
old time Laker fan, he just can't take it. He
cut out the reaction. But but this is where Kyrie
(48:14):
Irving is, Hey, I learned from the Lebron thing. I'm
not doing the Lebron thing. People ask all the time,
like why would you leave Lebron when you had a
chance to win a championship? And the reason The reasons
are pretty obvious. He knew Lebron was going. He was
tired of playing on lebronze team and every year you
(48:36):
end up having to answer questions about what's Lebron gonna
do in this offseason. It becomes tiredsome and tedious, and
you can't just go to work and play basketball. Pete.
It's hard enough to win as it is. It's even
it's it's made more difficult when you have to answer questions.
And I think Lebron has even learned from that, like
man I gotta sign learned from contract. I guess, stop
fooling around with the Lakers. Don't fall around with the
(48:56):
Lakers because people just don't love that. They just don't
love the every year free agency thing, every year discussion.
And so Kyrie Irving coming off his knee being cleaned up,
and for people who don't know, remember when he broke
his knee cap This is like four years ago in
the NBA Finals in Game one, right, they had already
(49:18):
lost Kevin Love in a game against the Celtics. They're
playing against They're playing against the Warriors in the Finals.
It goes to overtime and his kneecap breaks. Remember that, Well,
part of the surgery to fix the kneecap was he
had three screws put into his knee and then it
was kind of held together by this mesh wiring. And
(49:40):
at first last year, the mesh wiring was irritating his
skin and he just felt like it was a nuisance
and of pain. They took the mesh wiring out and
it was there was still something wrong with the knee.
They found out that one of the screws, maybe two
of the screws were infected. They had to get him
out immediately because if it becomes into the bone becomes infected,
now you could your knee cap can break apart, become brittle,
(50:01):
and now you never play again. So it was just
more precautionary clean out move. And you combine that with
Gordon Hayward being out. They went to the NBA NBA
West Eastern Conference Finals Game seven without him without Hey,
we're there two best players. So I told you guys
(50:22):
this summer. I mean, all I've heard is he's super
happy there, loves the professionalism, loves that guys show up
to they have practice, whereas they weren't practicing in Cleveland
last year, didn't practice that much in previous years. There
is no turnstyle at head coach. There is no players
making decision as head coach. There's just young talent guys
get after and he's kind of the alpha with the basketball. Now.
(50:44):
It doesn't mean that it's officially official. This is more
like Facebook official, but committing and saying like, hey, I'm
I told everybody I'm coming back if you'll have me.
That's as close to it as you get. And that's
Kyrie Irving saying we're not gonna talk about that this year.
I've learned from what it's like to play on teams
where people don't know what their stars are gonna do
(51:06):
in the offseason, and that's just tiresome, tedious, and I
don't have the energy to go rebuild this idea that
you have to get to New York that Kyrie wants
to get to New York and have his own team.
Why when I'm in Boston, better franchise, better GM, you know,
more proven coach. Even though everybody loves David Fizdale, I
don't need to move. Let guys come to me. It's
(51:28):
pretty smart. I think it's pretty smart. Doug Otlip Show,

thanks so much for spending time. Uh. Among the things
that people should know about you are a native of Pittsburgh.
I believe that's I believe where you put that's where
you cut your teeth. And I look at this weekend,
I'm like, man, another home game against the Falcons team
(53:42):
that's probably better than their record. I don't know. If
you go must win this roightly in the season. But
one three and one in that division where the Browns
are suddenly competitive, is not a great way to start.
How important do you think this Sunday's game is? It's
because what they haven't won a home games since last year,
and now you're gonna lose. I mean, they lose a
home game to Baltimore. Now you know they could lose
(54:05):
this one. I mean, and right now the season is
going right down to dumpster. I mean you look at
all the problems that they have. I mean, Levian Bill
is not going to show up to a week seven,
which is a bye week that really helps them out.
Then they've got Ben Roethlisberger really not getting in sync
with a hundred yard game yet with Antonio Brown, James Washington,
the number three receiver has not really you know, stepped
up after a great preseason that's not going well. And
(54:28):
then the defense has been just carved up. So no,
at one two and one, they dropped to one three
and one. I mean, there's the potential now that they
could be two and a half games behind two teams
in the division and their seasons rapidly firing away. You
have more insight than most anybody who covers the sport,
John Clayton joining us in the Doug Allip Show. Levan
(54:48):
apparently told guys in the offense, I'll be there week
one of the season. That's why they were so mad
when he didn't show up, and then his agent league
doubt week ten is more like it now of a sudden,
it's week seven. Why the change? Ah, Well, I mean,
first off, he had to come in because he needed
to get a year vested to make to make sure
that you know, they get just repeat with the franchise
tag and he really just loses the year of service
(55:10):
and that so he had to do something, whether it's
coming in in November with six games remaining or coming
in and so I think here's his tact on this
uh and again it's not a great one, but it's
one that he's doing. So you figure, you come in
week seven or eight, the team has a exemption on
you for two weeks, so you can still get an
eight hundred and fifty five dollar paycheck. If they wish
(55:31):
for not doing anything, then you come in. If you
have to play, then you're instead of getting four hundred carries,
which he feared would beat down his body now you're
maybe getting a little over two hundred to two hundred
and fifty touches a game or a season for the
rest of the year. So that's the strategy there. And
why seven and eight, Hey, that's right where the trade
deadline is. And so now you get there in time,
(55:52):
sign your contract and if they want to move you
or you want to be moved again not limited number
of teams that would be involved, then that could happen.
And so that I think is a strategy, you know,
one to save his body, get less touches, and then
see if he can touch off some kind of a trade. John,
do you think that he will be traded? No, I
don't I think I mean, yeah, he is a possibility.
(56:13):
I think there's interest in Philadelphia, there's interest in the Jets,
but there's very few teams that could really fit him
into the cap and there's not a lot of teams
right now looking for running backs, and so those would
be the only two and I don't think either one
would be able to offer something satisfactory to the Steelers.
So in the end, and again you know, they can
may take the tact at that time if they're sitting
(56:34):
there with a two two four and one record. Maybe
they'll say, Okay, we'll give a little bit of a
discount sale and just move on because at this stage,
the only thing they'll be able to get for Levionville
after this season is a third round compensatory pick in
two thousand twenty. John Clayton joining us in the Doug
Outlive Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, look, I
(56:55):
think the Raiders thing is is fascinating. There's been a
lot of negativity from fans around the league over dealing
Khalil Mack, but that comes after people in the league said, well,
they never get two first round picks for Cluemack, and
they did. Gruden seems to be taking a long term
approach while kind of while undercutting Reggie Mackenzie's power and
some of the moves he's made in the past. What's
(57:16):
your take on what's going on in Oakland? Yeah, I mean,
I think this is the fear. I think when you
have a coach as the main guy acquiring talent, I mean,
it becomes messy, and you can see how messy it is.
I'm and even got messy this week when basically he
threw Reggie Mackenzie under the bus by saying, yeah, well
he took two safeties in each of the last second
round or two years ago, and the first round er, uh,
(57:38):
you know, the last year and now, uh, they he
wanted Derwin James, and Derwin James is having a great
season with the Los Angeles Chargers, and so you have that,
and then you have a roster right now with fourteen
to fifteen guys in their thirties. And now the complaint is, boy,
there's not a lot of speed on defense. Well, duh,
you don't have a lot of youth on defense. They've
had injuries that have really wiped out most of the
(57:59):
defensive line and so it's a mess. Uh you can
see that. Coaching wise, he'll be fine. I mean he'll
He's got a good growth thing going on right now
with Derek Carr. He's getting the most out of Marshawn Lynch.
That's encouraging. But what happens now they get into the
second happen things Baulepard on defense and I know John
has already said it's like, hey, it's hard to find
defensive ends. Well, you had a pass rushing defensive en
(58:22):
right now is the m v P. John Clayton joining
us on the Doug Gallup Show. What about Chicago. Uh,
the defense looks great. Rabinsky stat line last game was incredible.
But but there is a certain sense, Hey, when the
the Matt Naggi's uh play calling, when the preset plays
run out, now Son Shrabinsky leaves a lot to be desired.
(58:44):
They're surprisingly really really competitive. Heck there downright good. They're
on a bye week to get Miami on the road
next week. What's the league saying though about Rabinsky now
they're getting a chance to see him second time around? Well,
we're The big thing is that it's a shame that
they had to buy week this week because you wanted
to see how much of that was Ski and how
much of it was going to be the Tampa Bay defense,
which is right now the worst in football. And so yeah,
(59:05):
because I know I was on the sidelines for the
week to Monday night game, and I mean you can
see once the script was done fifteen to seventeen plays
that he was great in the script. But you know
it starts to fall apart. I mean, he throws four
or five yard passes and he has to try to
his accuracy seems to go. He rushes things a little bit.
Now that got right going against Tampa Bay, and maybe
(59:26):
what happens is that that's the big step that he
needs to take it for the entire game. But after
the sevent team plays for the first three games, it
was very spotty. Now again, how much of it was
the Bucks defense? How much it was Mr Mrs Trobinsky.
One thing we know for sure, the combination of Matt
Negi and Trabinsky ultimately is going to be a very
good one. He's great coming from Kansas City and match system.
(59:47):
I mean, you can see he's got the talent in Trabinsky.
It's just a matter of getting him out of the
script and doing things after the first quarter. Um, you
look at Denver and the collapse in the fourth quarter
against the Kan City Chiefs. It wasn't so much their
defense relenting to Pat Mahomes that you can see happening,
as Mahomes has been been immensely, immensely dominant here so
(01:00:07):
far in the season. It's their offense and you know,
bringing in case Keenum and not being able to score
against the worst defense in the sport coming in coming
into the game. How secure is Vance Joseph, a guy
who almost lost his job after one year last year. Yeah,
I think he's in a shaky situation now again. And
it was funny because, you know, being there for that
game and talking to people, was seeing like all the
(01:00:28):
Bronco people were saying, Okay, well, tough game against the Chiefs,
but boy, if things go bad and they lose to
the Jets, that could really skit the season out of control.
And I was like, what because it's a it's a
pretty good team, but I mean, you can see there's
definite problems on offense. I mean case Keenum, I don't
think he's had a touchdown pass what since the first
game when he had three his interception totals because you know,
(01:00:48):
he'll tend to try to be a little bit of
a gun slinger, which he stayed away from in Minnesota
last year, but that was interception totals about five or six. Uh.
You know, they have the running game going and that's
uh encouraging, but it's been inconsistent with the passing game,
so that has to be a concern. And then on defense,
I think what happened against the Chiefs basically was that
they fatigue the Broncos did in the second half, and
(01:01:11):
that you can see is both a mental fatigue and
also a physical fatigue because they did a great job
of playing some soft zone in the first two downs
and really containing Mr Bisks. I mean, you're controlling Pat Mahomes.
He wasn't able to get the ball down field, so
that was encouraging. And then the second part of it
was that, uh, you know, they he came back and
they started run the ball because they're in a soft zone.
(01:01:31):
Once the running started going, the fatigue started going in,
and then he started getting hot and moving around and
he just wore them out in the second half. Sam
Bradford has now been deactivated. He's losing money by the week.
Um Philadelphia was able to flip into a first round
draft pick. Any sense that Arizona is gonna be able
to move Sam Bradford to gets something in return. No,
I think it's gonna be impossible because he's you know,
(01:01:52):
you know, I know three and twelve thousand a week
is in a roster bonus, and that's going because now
he's a third string quarterback. He's not on the active foster.
But you're still talking about a twenty million dollar contract.
Now the signing going to sport of it's already gone,
but I think it's gonna be tough. And then you
start to wonder, Okay, what what Sam Bradford are you
going to get? Are you going to get the one
that completed seventy of his passes at Minnesota or you're
(01:02:14):
gonna get the one that Mike Zimmer said has a
degenerative needs and couldn't get the ball downfield with Arizona.
So I think there has to be but I think
it's gonna be hard to get value right now for
Sam Um. What about Dez Bryant. You know, he he
went from kind of blowing off the Browns interview, which
you saw in Hard Knocks, to openly opening for the Patriots.
They brought in all kinds of wide receivers not named
(01:02:35):
Dez Bryant. Now even went so far as to say, hey, look,
my first preference is still to go to the Dallas Cowboys,
a team he crushed on Twitter after being released. What's
your sense of whether or not Dez Bryant plays in
the NFL this year. I mean, somebody's got to sign him,
because he's too good of a talent not to be signed.
It's just a matter what team is going to take
what could be a potential headache because if things don't
go right for Dez on the field, then he tends
(01:02:57):
to blow things up on the field or on the
side minds, and so that becomes a problem. And so
I mean, is it worth taking that risk that you're
going to have some potential problems with Dez? But again,
when you need a receiver, uh, you you need something.
I mean, you saw that the Patriots made the move
and they trade for Josh Gordon. I mean somebody. I mean,
for example, you look at a team like San Francisco.
(01:03:18):
Now they're probably not going anywhere losing their quarterback and
their running back. But let's say that they were off
to a better start. You know, with the injuries that
they've had at the wide receiver position, they could have
right reached out. But somebody will do it. I think
it just has to look at the injury list and
see who's wiped out. You know. The one would be interesting, uh,
if we're following today now it's not gonna happen this week,
is that the Packers are down potentially three wide receivers.
(01:03:41):
You know, Randall Cobbs already out to other receivers have
to wait to the mart to see if they're going
to be able to play. Their top three receivers are
all banged up. If they have to carry those injuries
over for a week or two, maybe that could be
a team that would consider it. But again maybe not. Yeah,
it doesn't doesn't seem like that will happen. Dalvin Cook,
you think he plays. I know he's gonna try and
give it a go. Minnesota once again, Uh, just crushed
(01:04:03):
by injuries. Take on the Eagles, who have been a
little bit disappointed so far this year. What are you
hearing about Dalvin Cooke? Yeah, I mean he is questionable
game time decision, but I think he'll be active. But
how good he's going to be able to play? Because
and even this is like even from the middle of
the preseason that burst hasn't been there yet. I mean
it just seems that, you know, he's still hasn't got
the ability to really explode yet. And so my guests
(01:04:27):
would be, you know, you bring him and have him
do seven or eight carries just to try to get
him going and get him positive. But you know it's
still a question mark. You know, he's been limited in
practice and right now questionable on the injury reports. Great stuff,
John Clayton, go to John Clayton Football dot Com. John,
thanks so much for checking in with us. We appreciate
your insight so much. On Fox Sports Radio, hey, thank you.

Doug gotlip show here on Fox Sports Radio. Let's get
you to Dan Buyer. You might have heard some of
the yelling in the background. I love postseason baseball. I
got it cranked up. What's going on in Houston? Of
both starters out of the game, just at Verlander had
no hitter through five, but it was in the sixth
that he allowed to Cleveland run. So the Tribe if
pulled within two of Houston four to two. Right now
(01:05:11):
heading to the bottom of the sixth inning in Game
one of their divisional series, Astros with the lead on TBS.
Houston has hit three home runs today, including back to

Slash match limitations apply. You mentioned the Dalvin Cook injury,
with John Clayton doug not the only running back who's
banged up, said coach Pete Carroll. Said running back Chris
Carson will play against the Rams on Sunday after missing
(01:06:16):
Week four with a hip injury. Good news for Ravens
running back Alex Collins, who was on the practice field
today taken off the injury report, will go against the
Browns on Sunday. But the Bengals, while they may get
Joe Mixon back this weekend against the Dolphins, they lost
running back Jovanni Bernard two to four weeks because of
an mc l sprain. Dan, if you can watch one
sporting event this weekend, you can only watch one. What
(01:06:39):
is it taking away any of the like like favorite teams?
Red River Rivalry Really yeah, I love that game, yeah twice. Yeah,
it's really good. Yeah, it's it's really neat. Yeah, and
it's on It's on Fox tomorrow. UM, the Red River Rivalry.
For people who don't know, obviously OU Texas, that's always, always,
(01:07:00):
always the first weekend in October. Weather's great. It occurs
to the Cotton Bowl, and the Cotton Bowl is UM
situated inside the State Fair of Texas, so you've got
kind of state Fair going on outside, and then you
have UM and then you have this football game, which
is you know, Austin is a couple but both are
(01:07:23):
a couple hour a couple of hour drive away and
big alumni basis although a little bit bigger for Texas,
Texas a little bit bigger school and it's played there,
you know, first, uh, first Saturday in in October. That's
interesting though, because there's no on the m M. A fight,
no one. I guess what the other big game would
be L s U. Would L s U Florida be
(01:07:44):
the other the second biggest game? Yeah, probably, It's not
a great weekend for college football. No, but sometimes that
those weekends give us the most surprising ones, like oh,
that's a that's a that's an ass weapon and then
all of a sudden, oh, d you takes down Virginia
Tech Syracus the close there's there's no Dame Virginia, not
Dame Virginia, Texas A big one in Blacksburg. Yeah, there's
(01:08:04):
a big one. There's just something I actually I covered
it as a member of the media about twelve years ago.
Doug and loved it so much. That's probably there. I
went back as a fan, so yeah, yeah. And if
the stadium is cut like right down the middle, you know,
you got an orange on one side and crimson on
the other, I mean right down the middle. It's pretty cool.
(01:08:25):
It's an early we start as well, so it's not
you know, you get you got the what eleven o'clock start,
So the sun is shining bright, it's yeah, great atmosphere.
The rest of the day. You can just go to
the fair. Yeah, you can go to the fair. You
can kind of come down from a high if you one,
or if you or continued drinking, or you you know,
wallowing your sus and you you had head on home,
(01:08:45):
it is a really interesting event. Okay, that's that means
no NFL games. That means no one Jacksonville, Kansas City.
There's there's only one. Oh you Texas at the Cotton Bowl.
It's okay, all right, you also have Red Sox Yankees.
You can't watch any of those games. Yeah, I'd go
with the college football game. Good good for you, Dan
Buyer giving us speaking of Jacksonville in Kansas City. Um,
(01:09:06):
Jacksonville's defense, number one points per game, number one in
yards per game, number one in passing yards per game.
I mean this is you know, to anyone who says
the legal figure him out, let's find out. Now they
are at home, so that helps you. It's I don't think.
I think it's inarguably the best atmosphere in the NFL.
(01:09:28):
Like Kansas City in football is like Oklahoma City in basketball.
Stick with me for a second. Oklahoma City, so playing
basketball in Oklahoma State. And by the way, I first
started radio working for the sports ambul in Oklahoma City.
And you know, my first chance to I'd never been
to an o U Texas game, and I've been to several.
(01:09:49):
Now this is like their big blowout weekend. This is
everybody heads down I thirty five and goes down to
Dallas UM. But the state was always divided bean basically
Oklahoma football fans and Oklahoma State basketball fans. It didn't
mean that there weren't Oklahoma State football fans, but they
just weren't as you know, they had, you know, fifty
years of lack of consistent success. And Oklahoma basketball has
(01:10:13):
been successful, but it's still just kind of a football school.
The one uniting thing in the state was Oklahoma City Thunder,
and those fans they don't know that. You're like, they
still haven't really adjusted. It's a little bit less, uh
not as loud as it used to be, but they
still don't really know that. Hey, Laker games, people show
(01:10:35):
up late. It's still expensive and if you're gonna you're
gonna get something out of your money when you're in
Oklahoma City to show up early and you yell loud,
because well that's what basketball fanswers supposed to do. It's
the same thing in Kansas City and football, where you
have great Kansas and frankly Missouri basketball fans and the
football programs. Missouri has obviously been much better recently, but
(01:10:58):
they haven't been consistently great in Kansas has been a
dormat program for a long time, with a couple of exceptions,
but they they don't really know that at NFL games
you don't have to go crazy, and they treat it
like it's in it's a college. It's a great atmosphere.
But I wouldn't freak out if Mahomes struggles. He's going
(01:11:20):
to throw some picks. He's going and this is a really,
really good defense. I would be more freaked out if
Jacksonville can't move the ball against Kansas City's defense. That's
what I because they don't have a ton of time
to prepare. They haven't been healthy, and even though you
don't have for net, you got a chance to see
it and you know you can move the football against it.
(01:11:42):
I would be more freaked out if Jacksonville can't move
the ball against Kansas City. Then if Pat Mahomes struggles
at all against the best defense in football. It's Doug
gotlip show here on Fox Sports Radio coming up next.
Wait to hear what Marcellus Wiley had to say about
Cam New in relation to Andrew Luck that's up coming next.

Previously on the Doug God Leap Shows, check Let's check
in with Edward or an NFL insider Suddenly Now, Dez
Bryan tweets out, man, I'd love to play for the
Dallas Cowboys first, but I'll go play for somebody else,
And Jason Garrett says something nice along the lines of like, hey,
(01:12:27):
we really like Dez, but we're focused on the guys
we have here. Give me percentage chance that the Dallas
Cowboys go back down the Des Bryant road. Well, and
I think the other thing that Jason Garrett said that
really exposed what they truly think of des Briant was
he said he was a great player at the receiver position.
(01:12:47):
He didn't say he is a great player at the
receiver position. I think that des has a genuine love
of the organization and would dearly love to come back
and I'll play for the Cowboys again. I think he's
willing to put everything aside in terms of their their
recent past, and you know, he he made some very
(01:13:07):
unflattering allegations that I think preclude him from ever going
back into the Cowboys locker room. He called Sean Leah
snake uh, he criticized Jason Garrett Um and Scott Linahan
for their conservative play calling. I think it's highly unlikely,
but because of Jerry's involvement in his love of Daz,
(01:13:28):
I wouldn't completely rule it out. If you missed anything

here's Doug Godlieb Doug Godlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Every

shows on Fox Sports Wander Fox Sports Tradier. We call
it now brought to you by Discovered Card. We treat
you like you'd treat you. Here's Clay Travis Ler today
discuss the Notre Dames matchup against Virginia Tech. There are
lots of really good teams that never gets to play
for a championship in college football because it's so hard
now to find and make the playoff. And that'll be
(01:14:10):
the case. I think even if you expand to eight,
because four is a ridiculous number. My kids are never
gonna believe we used to have just two teams play
for the championship. Notre Dame is on the road against
Virginia Tech in blacks burd Early prediction. I think if
Notre Dame gets past Virginia attack, and I think they will,
I think there's a good chance the Irish gets to
twelve and oh and a twelve and o Notre Dame
(01:14:31):
team is gonna be almost impossible to leave out of
the college football playoff. Um. Look, the assumption we all
make about Notre Dame is if they can be Virginia Tech,
if they can be clean of Virginia Tech go into Blacksburg,
and we don't. It's a hard team to figure out, right, Like,
Virginia Tech is ranked mostly because they haven't lost a
(01:14:52):
game and they look really good against Florida State opening night.
Now we find out Florida State sucks, and you're like, okay,
it was his Virginia Tech any any good because they
their their signature win of the season was Week one.
They did beat Duke on the road last week. It
was a bit of a town on the other hand,
they lost Old Dominion, So we have no idea how
(01:15:13):
good Virginia Tech is. Notre Dame. I think is better
than they were when they played against Michigan because they've
changed quarterbacks. Win Bush Brandon win Bush is a good
run or a bad thrower. His only touchdown past the
year was that miracle cat throw and catch just actually
it was just a great catch um in the end
zone against Michigan into uh, you know, to a covered
(01:15:34):
wide receiver. Ian book seems to open things up. But
when we we do this all the time in collegian sports,
where we just start chalking up wins, Well, they play
Pittsburgh at home, and that'll be a win. And they
go to play Navy in San Diego and that'll be
a win. And they play Northwestern Chicago and that i'll
be a win, and they play Florida State and Syracuse
and at USC like look, if you know anything about
(01:15:56):
college football, like what's already happened this year? Syracuse did
beat Florida State, almost beat Clemson. Oh, the Old Dominion
did in fact beat Virginia Tech. How you look around
college with the exception of uh, Georgia after Sir Georgia
just survived somebody, uh last week or a couple of weeks,
(01:16:16):
a couple of weeks ago. I mean, like games, there's
always going to be a close game or two. Michigan,
who I think is really good, they didn't come back
from fourteen nothing down to beat that same Northwestern team.
So if if they're twelve and over, they can play
for the nation championship, of course they are like, that's
not groundbreaking stuff. No offense to Clay, like, you know this,
(01:16:37):
that's not groundbreaking stuff. They're they're undefeated, they'll play for
national championship. Not just because their Notre Dame and because
they played some big name teams and they dominated Stanford,
they beat Michigan at home, but also because everybody else
is gonna lose a game or two outside of maybe Alabama,
and even Alabama might lose one, might lose one. Um alright.
(01:17:00):
Also earlier today, Skip Bayliss said this to Shannon Sharp
about Dak Prescott playing against the Texans. I believe that
my Cowboys will win this football game because I believe
my guy, Dak Prescott. And I love me some DeShawn too,
but I love me some Dak a little bit more.
Dak Prescott will have his best game of the year
(01:17:22):
against this defense on the Sunday night stage. One thing
about my guy, Dak Prescott that you you will not
acknowledge and honor. He rises and shines big moments, big stage,
big challenge. What happened? Landon Collins called him out. Put
the ball in Dak's hands. Remember that was a big
Sunday night game against Okay, Okay, I got it. But
(01:17:43):
Dak was really good in that game. And what was
his line that week? Challenge accepted? What has he done
three times that he's faced the best, you say, the
best quarterback in pro football, Aaron Rodgers. What's happened in
those three games that he played? Took two else But
he played three of the best games of his career
year and he outplayed Aaron Rodgers each time he faced him. Yes,
(01:18:03):
he did so. The average QBR for these three games
eight for Dak, sixty two for Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, he
did not play Aaron Rodgers in playoff game that was
an Aaron Rodgers. When Dac was terrible, Aaron Rodgers game
the league, Dak led him back in then Aaron Rodgers.
But when the greatest throws in the history of the
playoffs rolling to his left right, and they won a
game winning field goal. That that so that one actually
didn't happen. But I'm not gonna I'm not gonna go
(01:18:25):
back historically through what Dak Prescott has and hasn't done
and his level of clutchness, because if he was super
clutch and super awesome, you know, uh, when they have
made the playoffs. Last year when they lost Zeke, you know,
they they got spanked by Atlanta, spank spanked by Philadelphia
(01:18:45):
and spanked by the Rams. They played three good teams
in a row, and they lost the three good teams
in row. Last year they lost at home to the
Seattle Seahawks and that that essentially ended their season. So
you know, look, I think da it's fine. I don't
think he's great. I don't think he's surrounded by supreme
talent aside from Zeki Elliott. I don't know why he's
(01:19:06):
his guy and whatever. I know he likes the Dallas Cowboys,
but I don't think of Dak Prescott as an elite
quarterback or top ten quarterback. And I think Deshaun Watson,
who had been struggling coming in off arguably his best
game of his career, at least this year's come back year.
We got to try and figure out was was that
simply Deshaun Watson against the putrid Colts defense? Or is
(01:19:26):
Deshaun Watson back? But but this idea that Dak Prescott
is gonna somehow win a game in zing it like, dude,
he's got three three yard games in his entire career.
We're three years into this thing like that. Three hundred
yards is not the is not the That's like the
Mendoza line in the NFL. And if you don't throw
for three hundred yards, you better win the game. And
(01:19:50):
his numbers are about five hundred. So he's not winning
a ton either, That's what the Fox said. Yeah, I've
never I've never have been huge huge on on Doc,
but I love his leadership. I think he's solid. I
think he's fine. Surround him with really good players. It's
(01:20:11):
pretty good. It's pretty good. Is it gonna win you
a game? No, he's not shown that ability, is not
showing that ability to elevate everybody else. It's a lot
like Hey, in the NBA, that's what it's like as well.
The true superstars elevate everyone around him it's harder in baseball, right,
(01:20:31):
maybe a picture one hitter like, it's hard to elevate guys.
But in basketball and football football at quarterback, you elevate
everybody around you. In basketball, the true superstars make everybody
else around them better. And that's you know, that's what
step does. Obviously it's with Lebron does I think that's
what Ka d does? Um? I think I don't think
(01:20:53):
that's what Carmelo ever did during his prime. I'm not
sure James Harden does it. I think he does, but
I don't know that he does it. Chris Paul absolutely
does it, so I don't know. Gonna be interesting to
see what happens with these Dallas Cowboys as they still
appear to be at a talent deficit. I like learning things.
(01:21:17):
Remember there's that famous Tiger Woods commercial where he talked
about his dad and his dad would say, what did
he learn from something? You know? My dad would say
that after every game. I watched Thursday night football last night,
and I think I knew, but now I absolutely knew.
I we all learned something from watching football last night.
(01:21:38):

(01:22:00):
been listening to me for so many years. Um, I
think I do a really good job on days and
on days or hours in which I'm not that fired
up of making you think I am fired up. But
I don't have to. I don't have to fake it
the final hour of the week on Friday. It's not
just that Ramos is He's Ramos. Put the beer down?
(01:22:20):
Is not beer thirty yet, put put put the beer down.
It's not just this Friday. It's quit in time. We're
all gonna go our way and and Ryan Music is
gonna be dragged to some other spot for a wedding
that may or may not happen like three years down
the road. Okay, dear, let's go have some wine and
and I'll be interested, even though he's keeping his on
his phone in football. No, No, it's not just that
(01:22:41):
it's Friday Friday and we're almost done here is We're
gonna turn you over to uh um uh what's the
What's the What's What's straight out of Vegas? R J
Bell and Jonas knocks the show which gets you ready
all the all the lines for the weekend. It's I
got Michael Lombardi this hour, who I feel like I
learned something about football that I didn't know. He joined
us every week and five for five and I'm coming
(01:23:03):
off another good week picking games in the in the
NFL and in college football. So I am fired up.
I hope you are too. But I I enjoy learning something.
It's weird. I don't know if I like learning as
a kid. I don't know if I like like I
I enjoyed. I don't think I loved school. It's one
of those things that that music, here's something you have
to look forward to. And and Ramos see, here's the
(01:23:24):
thing about John. John kind of likes everything. John. I've
never seen him have a bad day. He may be
having a bad day. He's one of these people that
you brush up against. And he has a Pete Kill
the former coach at Princeton. He talks about people being
a light bulb where they just light up every room
that they're in. That's that's what Ramos. He really just
has that. So maybe Ramos doesn't didn't have this question
with his kids, But all of my kids have asked
(01:23:46):
me individually, Dad, did you like school? And I try
as hard as I can. My wife is really incised, like,
let's not lie to our kids, Like there are certain
things which they don't need to know, but let's not
lie to our kids. So I say, no, really, just no,
I really didn't like school. Now, I like college. I
(01:24:09):
loved college. It wasn't just because I was a big
basketball players, because I I felt like not I didn't
like every course I took in college, but the college
college course I learned a ton in I still used
to this day. I like, there's certain things in high school.
There's certain things growing up, but generally like, uh, did
I like school? Like not really. I didn't mind the
(01:24:29):
act of going to school though, because that's where you
saw your friends, right, And I like, I used to
ride my bike to school up until I think, uh,
eighth grade, I used to ride my bike to school.
I like, I dug that. I was like I felt
like I felt like you're on like a junior motorcycle.
You know. I used to go down this big hill
to go to school, and I felt like I've just
(01:24:50):
free as a bird. But the older you get, the
more it's weird when you need to learn things. You're
a kid, you don't want to learn anything. You think
you know everything, and you don't really want to know
when you don't need to, Like I don't need to
be taught that much more. I don't need to know
about the tax code like I got it. I got
it A good accountant for that, you know. I know
(01:25:12):
that speed limit. I know that I know the basic
rules of the society. I know the golden rule, which
is always a good one to apply. But the older
you get, I find the more you like to learn.
You like find yourself fascinated by the History channel. You're like, man,
I didn't like history in school. I love us now,
you know. You go on to Facebook and they show
(01:25:35):
recipes for how things, Like I love cooking, but more
than anything, I love to know how things are made,
Like that's how you make a caesar salad. I didn't
know you get the anchovy and you you use eggs,
and like, I know all that. So I'm watching last
night and I think I learned a lesson. I really do.
(01:25:56):
I think I learned a lesson. I mean, I think
our he knew this one. I think I already knew
this one, but I you know, it reaffirmed what I
already believe. There's some confirmation bias, repeat after me. Never
doubt the Patriots. Two weeks ago, Miami comes in undefeated,
(01:26:20):
Adam Gaze, great play, collar, They got rid of some
of their problem children. They got Jakeen Grant, who's just
I mean, he runs like there's rockets on his shoes.
And they get handed and asked whooping. And then on
Thursday night football short week round, still a little bit
banged up. And I'm not sitting here telling you the
(01:26:42):
Colts are good. They're not Andrew looks good. They're not good.
They're not close to good, and they weren't healthy. But
you look up and they're the Patriots at three and two,
you know, and they haven't played the Jets yet, and
they hadn't played the Bills yet. So that's our games
against rookie quarterbacks. And you're like, yeah, I kind of
(01:27:03):
know the way this thing is going, don't you. I know,
like that, that feels like at least four more wins.
Now of a sudden, you're at seven. You squeak out
three more. You're locked in at the playoffs, and here
we go again. Damn it, we gotta go to New
England if we want to go to a super Bowl.
While the NFC North is far better than we thought.
(01:27:24):
And yes, Kansas City comes in, Um comes in next
week and kansu who actually they have to go into
Kansas City next week. Kansa City will be coming off
a hard fought game against Jacksonville Jaguars. They're the Patriots
who looked awful against Jacksonville, looked awful. They lost to
the Lions. Ramos, how many wins the Lions have this year? One? Yes,
(01:27:50):
Jacksonville ran them off the field. They may Blake Bortles
look like Johnny you like man. Maybe Blake Bortles is
good or possible lee the Patriot stick. They get a
legit starting wide receiver in Josh Gordon for a fifth
round pick. They get Julian Edelman back. Now that that
(01:28:11):
automatically makes Rob Gronkowski much more effective. Their rookie running
back looks like he'll be a ten year pro. Sony Michelle,
and you're like, you know what, They're not terrible, they're
pretty good and we're in a We're in a day
and age in which Tom Brady feels like he could
play forever, forever. If I gave you retire this year
(01:28:36):
or play five more years. After watching last night, I
would think most of you are gonna go like, you
know what. I would bet he's gonna play five more years.
I mean, why wouldn't you if you really like what
you're doing and you keep proving to people that you
can keep Father time at Bay and they can't hit you.
I mean the five touchdown pass, which wasn't it Josh
Gordon wasn't open, but he threw in double coverage and
(01:28:58):
Josh Gordon made a break on the ball, came back
to the ball and caught it exactly what you're supposed to.
Did you see how much time he had? It was
almost like the culture like, all right, guys, bring me
all five Mississippi this time before we can rush five Mississippi. Ready,
five Mississippi. It's how much time he had? And oh yeah,
by the way, to others include there's two other guys
that host radio shows at night on this network. One's
(01:29:19):
Jason Smith, the other one's Ben Mahler, and they seem
to be of the opinion that Andrew Lux sucks so
that he's massively overrated. I would love to hear both
of those gentlemen's thoughts on who was on his team
last night, Eric Ebron? Is that what you got for me?
(01:29:39):
You're gonna go Eric Ebron as man. The best offensive
player he has played with is t Y Hilton. T
Y Hilton during his time with the Page. During his
time with the Colts, when he got Reggie Wayne REGGI
Wayne was over the hill. Regiment was thirty six years
old and retired shortly after they went to the n
f C Championship game. I mean, that's a bad roster
(01:30:02):
and he's playing his guts out after not playing for
two years. This is what happens. It's em embarrassing what
the media does, what we collectively do. This is what
we do. This is what we do. With the clil
Mack trade, no chance screwd gets two first round picks
for clil Mack. Then he gets two first round picks, Like,
I can't believe he trade away clil Mack. I heard
(01:30:25):
Andrew Luck never be the same. He'm not gonna not
even touch it. He can't play football, is like I
was concerned, but I'm not gonna sit here and I
don't know here. We are five games in the season's
completed sixty six percent of his passes for nearly fIF yards.
He has zero running game zero. His leading rusher is
(01:30:46):
some dude named Jordan Wilkins who played at Old Miss.
Jordan Wilkins name Hines is his second leading rusher. They
have no running They don't even screw around. They're like, dude,
we got no running game. Let just throw it every down.
John Middelkoff joined us. John Middlecoff has the three Now podcast.
(01:31:08):
That dude has forgotten more about football than I'll ever know.
He was, like, you know, I gotta be honest with you.
I don't know any of those guys. There's some guys
I don't know who they are, Chester Rogers, Zack Pescal.
I remember Jack Doyle who didn't play because he's hurt, Right,
(01:31:28):
remember Jack Doyle Because Jack Douel has been on the
cold spool. Let's say, the only guy I know outside
of Ebron So we've gone from he'll never play again,
I'll never be back to he's still overrated, Like, no,
he's not. This franchise has been a dumpster fire after
he led them to thirty three wins in three years
(01:31:48):
in an an FC Championship game and then sustained an
injury because he was behind a patchwork offensive line with
arguably the worst GM in the history of the sport.
That's the reality of it. And I you love this
The media loves him? No, I hear munch of guys
in the media don't like him. The media hates Cam Newton.
(01:32:09):
It's funny. The media voted Cam Newton m v P.
The media voted Cam Newton the Heisman Trophy winner. Hey,
did Andrew Luck won a Heisman Trophy? Do you know
that one? Can you look that one up? Go ahead,
do YOURTLF favor Let's let's let's let let's look that up.
Because Andrew Luck, who is the number one overall pick,
who somehow is overrated. Now he won the Walter Camp
(01:32:32):
he won the Maxwell Award. He did not win a
Highsman trophy. Hey, who votes on the Heisman Trophy? Who
votes in the Heisman Trophy? Oh? That would be the media.
Of all the false narratives. The idea that Andrew Lucky
is overrated is false. Ask anybody in a front office
(01:32:54):
in the National Football League, and they'll go he might
actually be underrated. He's much more, much more athletic than
he's ever been giving credit. He's tougher coming back from
playing through and coming back from injury, and what he's
able to do elevating a crummy team for years is
(01:33:16):
what it's all about. But somehow, because he was said
to be the number one prospect and one of the
best prospects in the history of the sport, and he's
lived up to that building when healthy, he's overrated. Yeah, anyway,
(01:33:39):
I think that that's that's a that's a fast a
thing to me. Alright, we're keeping her eye on postseason baseball,
which of course is underway. Former GM Michael Lombardi joins
the show up coming next. He worked for the Patriots.
All right, are they is it just two bad teams
that they beat? Or have they fixed things in New England.
We'll get to that up coming next. But first, hey,

Doom Doom, Doom, Doom done. I wasn't one in six
last week, man, I had how many nights in a
row we hit Ryan Music? How many it'd be three
(01:35:29):
in a row? Three or three in a row. I
missed Monday Night Football by a half point, by a
hey point, by a half point. So yeah, yeah, I
missed Monday Night football. And I think I missed Thursday
Night football week a week before. I don't remember what
we did if we did the line at seven or
at six and a half. I think it went off
at six and a half and end up being a
seven point game. But I may have given that one
(01:35:51):
earlier in the week when it was seven half. But whatever,
even though I take the l there, the picks have
been good, bigs have been good. My The Lombardi is
a former general manager of the Nash Football League. I
would implore you to pick up Gridiron Genius, a master
class and winning championships and building dynasties in the National
Football League. It is on sale now. It is excellent. Um. Look,
(01:36:15):
I hadn't jumped ship, but many people had the Patriots
look bad against Jacksonville. They made they made Blake Borrows
look like a top five quarterback in the NFL. And
I guess we should have figured out that, hey, Miami
was a little bit fraudulent and in he's in, he's
you know, one of the bottom five in terms of
overall talent in the league. And they didn't have t
(01:36:36):
Y Hilton as well five other starters last night. But
it feels like the Patriots are figuring it out. And
am I wrong to think it's not just the opponent,
it's the Patriots getting better. Well, I think, look, you know,
getting element backs a huge help. And then I haven't
Josh Gordon on the outside gives them some help they had.
You know, they lost three players last year. They lost
Brandon Cooks at sixty five catches, they lost Dandy Amadoes,
(01:36:59):
and they lost Dion Lewis. That's nine hundred yards and
before Jacksonville and after Jacksonville though none of those three
guys have been replaced. Sonny Michelle didn't do anything he
did against the Miami and he came out last night
again played well. That replaced Dion Lewis, and then we
saw Edelman come back. He'll certainly replace the Danny Ammadola
and then Josh Gordon has given him some presence on
(01:37:21):
the outside. So you know, I think that's the missing piece.
But I think when you watch the Patriots, it's still
gonna come down to can they get better on defense?
Can I get faster? Are they gonna be able to
compete against a really good Kansas City team that comes
into town next Sunday night to face them? Mhm? And
what's the answer to that? Can you get I mean
getting faster? The answer always for the Patriots is always
(01:37:43):
about first half point differential. It's always about building the league.
The Patriots always have had their offense set the tempo
like it did last night. They get off to a
fast start. If they forced one punt the game that
starts to become a fourteen nothing game, and they played
from in front, and that's how they do things, and
that's how they've done it very well and earlier in
the season because their offense struggled. The defensive problems which
(01:38:03):
have always been there, became magnified, and I think which
saw last night. Look, the Coats might be one and four,
but there are a good one in four team, if
there is such a thing. They've been in every game
other than one last night into the fourth quarter. They've
had chances to win every game they've played in into
the fourth quarter. They're the best red zone, the best
third down team in football going there last night, and
they converted forty seven percent of them last night without
(01:38:24):
t Y Hilton. So I think that the Colts are
a good team. I think that the fact that Patriots
gave up points to him really is not a bad
omen for the Patriots. But I think their offense control
the pace, and that's what it has to happen all
the time, all right. Michael Lombardi, who is an absolute
legend in the profession front office football, He's an absolute legend.
Pick up his book Gridiron Genius master Class Winning Championships
(01:38:44):
in building dynasties in the NFL. He's I mean, if
you go out and name the elite coaches, uh going,
you know, going back obviously to the to the the
Niner staff in the eighties dominated and change football forever
you worked there all the way, you know, working with
with Belichick. So I'm gonna ask you, Andrew Luck, your
opinion number is what I think it's coming. I think
(01:39:06):
it's really starting to come. I think the first first
couple of weeks of the season, he didn't have it.
He didn't trust his fastball, and there were guys wide
open and he wouldn't throw the ball in the tight windows.
And the last couple of weeks he started to throw
the ball in the tight windows. Is it back to
where it was three years ago? No? Is it going
to get there? Yeah? I hope it will. I think
it's starting to come. I think the more strength he gets,
the more confidence he gets to his arm that he
(01:39:28):
can drive the ball in the tight windows, I think
you're going to see him do it. Look, interceptions have
always been a part of Andrew lux game. He's always
challenged that edge. And I mean there's so many times
when he was having great success that you could put
together a tape of Andrew Lux dropped interceptions and it
would have tilted the balance. This kid has always taken chances,
and I think frankly, having the arm issues that he's
(01:39:49):
had has helped him not throw as many interceptions. Now,
he threw three last night, but I think it helped
him because he's not trying to force the ball into
tight windows. Well, but there there are some in the
media that say, man, he's so overrated. Um, you're a
front office guy. What's what is the belief in the
NFL in terms of how he's regarded. I think you
(01:40:11):
can win a Super Bowl with the player. I think
he's really smart. He can do things with the line
of scrimmage, he can make plays with his feet, he's
accurate with the football, and as they get better around him,
they'll be a better team. Look, they're paying a price
for the Ryan Griggson administration that happened in Indianapolis. I
mean that really wasn't very good. And you're talking to
a guy that Ryan Grigson traded a first round pick
for Trent Richardson's too. So they have not done a
(01:40:32):
good job surrounding Andrew Luck. I mean they've made some
bad decisions. They didn't setch the offense or defensive line,
and unfortunately Andrew lux paid a price for that with
the shoulder injury. I do think the kid's gonna come around.
I think he's gonna be a really good player. Will
he make mistakes, Sure they all will, But I think
if you're gonna build a team, I think Andrew Lux
the guy you want to build a team around. Um.
I watched Monday Night Football and look, I'm with you,
(01:40:54):
I'm with everybody. I'm a Homes and I had NFL
guys tell me before Mahomes, you know, broke up, broke out.
This season, they were like Mahomes. What they're building his
his arm, talent, his brain, his legs. He's the real deal.
My takeaway from Monday was more Broncos got problems there.
You you know, sixty five straight times they'd won at
(01:41:15):
home with a double digit lead and going against the
worst defense in the sport case keenom can't get can't
move the ball, can't get first down, can't get points.
You need to keep scoring against Cancie and they can't
do it. Am I wrong with that? As a takeaway? Well,
you could One more can to that is they couldn't
convert a throw down in the fourth quarter, and the
Chiefs converted four of them. So there's another cance for you. Yeah. Look,
(01:41:36):
I think if you're if you're John Alloway and you're
driving home and I said this on my podcast at
GM Street. If you're driving home that night after the game,
you gotta be sick to your stomach, not because you
lost the game, but the fact that Mahomes is the
best quarterback of the division and you paid eighteen million
for a guy who's essentially a backup quarterback. And the
other thing that's got to drive you absolutely crazy when
you're driving home. If you're John Elway, it's the fact
(01:41:57):
that your defense can't hold the lead on Miller's past
the quarterback every play. If you're gonna beat If the
Jacksonville Diaguards are gonna win this week and they're gonna
beat Patrick Mahomes, they're gonna do it with their rush.
You don't cover great quarterbacks. You rush great quarterbacks, and
how do you control them in the pocket. Your ends
don't get past the quarterback. The worst place to be
in football is two yards past the quarterback because he's
(01:42:18):
yet to turn and run that way. And against Denver,
that's all Denver did. They raced up the field, my
Homes stepped up into the pocket, went out and threw
for almost two hundred yards when he left the pocket. Look,
Jacksonville can beat them this week even in Kansas City,
if their rush plan is solid and disciplined. Um. Michael
Lombardi joining us in the Doug Otlips Show on Fox
(01:42:40):
Sports Radio. I'm hesitant on the Titans, and I'll tell
you why. Yeah, I watched what Jack del Rio did
a couple of years ago with the Raiders, and there
was a little bit of luck there, right, Like they
went for it on fourth down, they went you know,
went for two instead of instead of kicking extra points,
and they you know, they had kind of a magical year. Um,
but am I rang is this is this Titans thing?
(01:43:01):
For real? Well? Look, they haven't turned the ball over
the first week of the season. They did, and they've
won three straight. They've won ugly. I gotta you gotta
give them credit for mental toughness. I'm with you. I'm
not buying them as a team. I mean, last week,
Mariota made some great plays with the speed and compared
to the fourth and fifteen a fourth and four. Their
defense played really well against the Carson Wentz the Eagles.
They put pressure on you know the Houston game that
(01:43:24):
they've made a couple of plays in that game with
the special teams that won the game. I just don't
know how long this is gonna go. Could I see
them getting upset in Buffalo? Absolutely? I think Tennessee. Their
receiving corps isn't great. Corey Davis looked like a star
last week playing against the Eagles secondary, which has often
give up a lot of plays. So I think they're
gonna have to prove it to me. To me, Tennessee
is a team that's eight and eight. They're gonna have
(01:43:45):
some moments of good, They're gonna have some moments of bad,
and I think at the end of the day they'll
be eight and eight. Let me ask you about the Eagles.
They take on the Vikings, and here's two teams that
people thought could could both go to the Super Bowl.
Vikings invested a Tony quarterback, but they got all kinds
of injuries. But the Eagles were told, hey, when they
get Carson went back, all Sean Jeffrey back, they'll be fine.
Suddenly the offensive line camp block right and then and
(01:44:06):
as good as the defensive line was, and it won
them that Atlanta game and hasn't won them more than
one other games since. What's going on in Philadelphia? I
think you said it right there. The defensive line hasn't
been able to look. The Eagles defensive secondary hasn't covered
anybody in two years. I don't see why anybody can't
understand this. They gave up six hundred and thirteen yards
and twenty six minutes to the Patriots, yet they won
the game. The Eagles have always played defense. They played
(01:44:28):
single hunters. They played twenty six minutes, twenty seven, that's all.
When they have to play over thirty minutes, they get exposed.
And if their defensive line can't dominate the game with pressure,
they missed Tim Journey and badly. If they can't dominate
the game with their defensive front, teams are gonna move
the ball them. I mean Eli Manning. The reason he's
still the quarterback in New York and the reason he's
still they the Giants didn't draft another quarterback this year
(01:44:50):
when they had the second pick of the draft is
because they all cited the two eago games against this
great Eagle defense that Helie threw the ball against. Well,
the Eagles can't cover anybody. What they do well is
rushed the after and create turnovers. That's what they've done.
And this year they're not the same team in the
defensive line, they missed Journey again. The other area they're
not the same is Carson Wentz on third down. Carson
Wentz last year on third down average over nine yards
(01:45:11):
per attempt. Nine yards per tempt on third down, that's rare.
This year he's back to five, just slightly under six,
which is the norm, and I think that's been a problem. Um.
Aaron Rodgers came out critical of Mike McCarthy, critical of
the play calling as well as as as not getting
the ball to his more talented wide receivers. Had some
drops from some of the younger, younger guys. Does Aaron
(01:45:32):
Rodgers have a legit beef with his head coach? Well,
I think oftentimes. You know, the Packers have always been
a young team and they relied on some younger players
without experienced I think they need to get their core.
They write rotate too many players. I think Aaron Jones
is the best running back on their team. They need
to play them and I think Time Montgomery can give
him a specialty player where they can move him around
a little bit. But I think they have to be
more diversified and give the scheme a little bit more
(01:45:54):
of a chance. You know, when you have Rodgers at
back a quarterback, you kind of cheating the system a
little bit because he's so good at making plays with
his feet, and now that he's got the knee, he
can't quite do it. This is gonna be a tough
game in Detroit. The last time they beat the Lions.
Who was on the Helm Marry on Thursday night. The
Lions play them really well, and I think this will
be a tough game for the Packers. Michael Lombardi joining
(01:46:15):
us on the Doug Gotlips Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Huge game in Pittsburgh where the Falcons you want to
talk about being competitive. They're one in three and could
be four. No, but you know they failed to finish
several of the games in Philadelphia. Couldn't block that defensive
line we talked about obviously. The Saints game was one
that was same with the Bengals. They take on the
Steelers and it feels like loser of this game, especially
(01:46:38):
Steelers at home. You lose this game, man, your playoff
hopes go become very very slim, especially in a much
more competitive division with the Bengals being back and the
Browns being competitive. Am I am I over selling the
importance of this game. No, not at all. I think
it's a huge game. I think the reality here this
game is the fact that the Steelers now have lost
three straight home games. They lost last year Seville, and
(01:47:00):
they've lost two right now, can they lose four? They've
never lost four with like Toma their nineteen and nine
at home in the last few years playing, and I
think they've been more vulnerable. But I'd get the sense
here Atlanta's a wounded team. Grady Jarrett, Grady Jarrett won't
play this week to go along with a bunch of
other defensive starters. Their defriens can't slow anyone down. And
then when you really watch Matt Ryan, when he doesn't
(01:47:21):
play at home, he's not as effective as an offensive player.
I think the Steelers get get off the schnine. I
think right now the Falcons are a hurt team. They're
a wounded team. It has nothing to do with anything
other than the injuries. That really heard him Michael Lombardi.
Pick up his new book, download his podcast, it's called
GM Street, very easy to download. All of his stuff
is easily consumable, and you find that you find yourself
(01:47:43):
learning something Thanks so much for joining us on the
Doug Otlip Show. Thanks Doug, pleasure is all mine. That's
Michael Lombardi. Let's get you to Dan Buyer. Major League
Baseball four Game Fridy, four Day Friday. What Astro starting
to pull away from the Indians now seven to two
in the bottom of the eighth inning and Hugh stand
Astros of it four home runs on the day. The latest,
(01:48:03):
Martin mal Donado was solo shot. All of the home
runs have been solo home runs. Again, bottom of the
eighth inning on TBS. Astro's lead the Indians seven to
two in their Game one of their best of five
American League Divisional Series. Game two of the NLDS. Rockies
and Brewers scoreless right now in the fourth inning in Milwaukee,
brew Crew up one oh and the best of five matchup.
(01:48:23):
You'll see that one. You can see it right now
on Fox Sports one. Later tonight on Fox Sports one,
it's the other NLDS match up between the Braves and
Dodgers at ninety seven Eastern time. Before that, Yanks and
Red Sox go at it on TBS at seven thirty Eastern.
The Jets will be without corner Tremaine Johnson against the
Broncos on Sunday. However, wide receiver Quincy and then we
will play through a hip injury. Vikings running back Dalvin
(01:48:44):
Cookie game time decision for Sunday's game against the Eagles
with a hamstring strain. While Ravens running back Alex Collins
practice today and it was taken off the injury report
and will play against the Browns coming up on Sunday.
Doug injury report is fastening here. I'm looking at the
Packers injury report. Uh, you know, Randall Cobb is out
with a hamstring. Geronimo Allison has not participates. Listen to
(01:49:06):
this questionable. He's got the concussion in hamstring. But the
good news is that Jimmy Graham was a full participant
in Friday's practice. Uh so too was Aaron Rodgers. So
so you got least that going for you. Davante Adams
also a limited participant. He had that calf injury. Um,
you know it. But there's an injury for the a
couple injury for the Lions. That make me, that makes
(01:49:26):
one of my picks. Let's get to five for five
five NFL five College. It's five for five with Doug
Godli let's go five m M. Doug Golive Show, Fox
Sports Radio. UH, twenty six and a half points should
(01:49:49):
be enough points for Kansas to cover normally, but they're
taken on West Virginia and Best Virginia is the real deal.
They've scored forty against Tennessee, fifty two against Youngstown, thirty
five UH against Kansas State, and they scored forty two
but allowed thirty four against Texas Tech. Returning home against
the Kansas club, the Kansas Awful, I know they, I
(01:50:09):
know they beat Rutgers. Will this year, Kansas Awful. Give
me West Virginia and give me the twenties. Six and
a half points. Northwestern has taken on Michigan State. I
haven't been impressed with Michigan State this year, and northwesterns
can't coming off a game to which they probably feel
(01:50:31):
like they should have won. They're up fourteen and nothing
to Michigan, but they just got worned out. Here's why
I'm taking Michigan State and the ten points. One they're
at home to Northwestern. You got that carry over from
the loss. I carry over from the loss, and they
just kind of got beaten up. Um, you get beaten
up Brian the work he playing at home. Uh, he's
(01:50:53):
gonna find Cody White, Cody White, Scott. I think twenty
catches already in the year. I'm gonna think Michigan State
and the points. M m hmm. Let's get to some
of the big games. Oh, you takeing on Texas. Oklahoma
is a seven point favorite against the Texas Longhorns. Texas
won three consecutive games. They beat sc It wasn't really
(01:51:17):
it shouldn't have been ranked in b TCU. I think
it's pretty good. But they're beating up off Ohio State
and they beat Kansas State nineteen and fourteen. I'm not
blown away by this Texas club, but their defensive coordinator
has had a bunch of success against Lincoln Riley's offense,
and to get the style of offense and Kyler Murray
is great and they are explosive, But Kyler Murray, once
(01:51:38):
you get to a higher level of competition, there are
times in which he tries to put it in harm's way.
This is the best team by far that Oklahoma has played.
Seven points. I feel like this is gonna be a
classic Red River rivalry. I think Oklahoma wins, but I
think by less than seven points. L s US taken
on Florida. L s U has gotten better and better.
(01:51:59):
All right, they beat Miami, but the game was closer
than the score. Beat Southeast Louisiana. Nobody cares beat Auburn
come from behind win eight against Louisiana Tech, forty five
against Old miss taking on Florida on the road. Tough
place to play, but if you can win in Auburn,
you can win at Florida. Florida gave everything they have
to be Mississippi State for dam Mullen, everything they have.
(01:52:19):
Elis use a two point favorite. I'll take the favorites.
Let's go for it. Tune Tune to tune. I got
one more for you. Notre Dame taking on Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech is a hard team to figure out. They
laid an absolute egg against Old Dominion. This line has
(01:52:41):
moved down to six and a half points. Let's take
the home dog. Let's take Virginia Tech as Notre Dame
is Starnie and Bok who hasn't played a road game yet.
Let's get to the pros. I mentioned the injury report
for the Green Bay Packers. They're playing in Detroit against
the lines. I don't think the line is very good.
(01:53:01):
Zig answer is not gonna play um And I think
Aaron Rodgers one of these guys that plays better when
he calls dudes out, when he feels like he's got
that chip on his shoulder. That's kind of that's just
that's his thing. It's this thing. Give me the Packers.
Is there one point? Dogs on the road? Pat Mahomes
(01:53:23):
taking all the best defense in the National Football League?
Does that mean I think the Jags completely stopped Kansas City. No,
and the Jags are not whole, They're not that healthy.
They're taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars who don't have Leonard Fournette.
I don't know. I'm buying this Kansas City thing. I
don't understand three points. I feel like after after playing
(01:53:45):
on the road. Maybe it's a short week, but their
speech should be overwhelming. I like Kansas City at home.
Give me the Chiefs his home favorites. Jets are now
one point favorites. I loved it when to pick him.
I still like him when the one point favorites. I
think they beat the Broncos. Broncos in a short week
coming into New York playing against the Jets, who aren't terrible.
(01:54:06):
They're not good either, but neither of the Broncos. Broncos
are on one in the road, they'll be owing to
give me the Jets. Michael Lombardi kind of stole my pick.
It feels like the end of days for the Pittsburgh Steelers,
but they still have Antonio Brown and the Falcons can't cover.
They are all banged up, even if they get Davante
Freeman back at running back. Steelers three and a half.
(01:54:27):
Give them to me. And the Carolina Panthers are at
home against the New York Giants. I don't think the
Giants are any good. I think the Panthers are really good.
That's why they're six point favorites. They'll be the Bengals,
who are very good by ten. Uh. They beat the
Cowboys in a home game to open the season, and
they're coming off of a bye. They are healthy. Giants
(01:54:48):
are Give me the Panthers. There it is five NFL.
Let's go five college five for five it Doug got leave.
I got one bonus pick for you. Last year, the
Rams went in and just kicked the crap out of
the Seahawks. Remember that. Ramos Ramos that must that must
have been the most fun you've had as a Rams
(01:55:10):
fan in years over the Seattle defense. Dude, that was
that was amazed. That's that's one of the That might
be the worst ass whooping of a good franchise I've
seen in the since I've worked in sports radio in
fifteen sixteen years now. Like that was just they were
up four I'm forty nothing or forty two nothing to
start thinking like it was like wow wow, and I
(01:55:32):
think it'll be equally bad. Seattle is just not there.
Get Chris Carson back. They're gonna try and shorten the game.
But man, I don't I don't see it against the Rams.
I know the Rams got Dominic Easley hurt, they got
some injuries in the defensive backfield. Just don't see it.
We gotta get to the press. Five stories in five minutes.
It's coming up next. Be sure to catch live editions
(01:55:54):
of The Doug Dot Leaps Show week days at noon
Eastern three pm Pacific. Previously on The Jug Godly Show,
Les Miles, former head coach Oakleman State from head coach
at l s U, of course, most famously joining us
on Doug Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. How are
you personally handling this time? The want? For me, it's
all about football. I want to coach college football. I
(01:56:17):
want I want some a d president to be proud
to say, hey, listen, I am I am introducing West
Miles to my team. And uh that being said, that's
that's kind of how my seat go. I spend enough
time in game plan and in a position to make
my team better on the practice field. I'm used to it.
(01:56:40):
If you missed anything from the Doug god Leave Show,
you can always podcast by going to Fox Sports Radio
dot Com. Now once again, here's Doug Godlib Doug Gotli Show,
Fox Sports Radio every day. This time we try and
get you caught up in all the stories today. There's
a bunch of them. We want you edupicated before you
(01:57:02):
go into your weekend, before you're going to Straight out
of Vegas with Jonas Knox and uh R J Bell
that Rascal from pregame dot Com. Here's the press. The Press.
The Press is brought to you by Discover Card. We
treat you like dude, treat you. You'd treat you what
(01:57:28):
you have, Dan Buyer Don I've got this from Houston
and I'll tag drills. This one deep to left field,
going back on apparently looking up on that skar feral
Astres Crawford boxes back to back, Jack's first sprigger. Now
all to thank it for nothing Astros. That was one
of four home runs. Kauhai Leonard loved it. I'm sure
(01:57:48):
he did. Astros beat the Indian seven to two on
the Astros Radio network to grab game one of their
divisional series. Yeah, Justin Verlander was really good and then
uh he did on into a tough spot there in
the sixth inning. Um, but he and it took him
a hundred two pitches to go five and the third.
But generally you give Justin Earlander two runs early and
(01:58:11):
that's hit and that's all. Corey Klueberg great in two
thousand and sixteen. The playoffs bad last year, bad so
far this year. This is not the way the Indians
want to start off. But um, look it's gonna be fast.
This is gonna be a fastening series because because I
think of of the teams that don't get discussed enough.
We talked about Houston because they won it last year.
We talked about Boston because they're the favorites and they
(01:58:31):
won more games than anybody else talking about New York.
Nobody seems to be talking about Cleveland. And they throw
Carlos Carrasco out there up coming next uh. And we've
seen them even go seven games back in sixteen with
the Cubs. They have a great winning mentality and Frank
con is as good as managers are as in the sport.
Brewers are up one nothing on the Rockies right now
on the bottom of the fourth inning. Of course, they're
(01:58:52):
up one oh and the best of five series or
review going on to see if her name Perez who
actually just knocked in a run earlier four Milwaukee was
tagged out at third in a base running situation, maybe
a double steel situation, and trying to get back to
third there reviewing it anyway, Milwaukee's got to run on
the board and they're threatening in the fourth already up
on the Rockies one nothing, of course, Yankees, Red Sox
(01:59:13):
later tonight, Braves Dodgers at nine thirty seven Eastern time
on Fox Sports. One of the Brewers won ten or
ow now ten games around yeah, I think eight row
to end the season. Ten of the last eleven, eleven
of the last twelve, I believe, so yeah, hot hot,
hot hot, and look, I mean, and they won last
night in spite of the fact that uh, Jeremy jeffers
(01:59:35):
Um end up blowing that save. And I mean, here's
the guy. If you haven't followed in the regular season,
he's has a like a one point to nine e
r A I saw last night when I was watching
the game. I mean, he has been ridiculous. Eighty nine
strikeouts in seventies six and two thirds innings. So, Um,
when one of the best set up men in baseball
who's also closed I think fifteen out ends up blowing
(01:59:56):
a gaming, you still win. There's just something right with
the Milwaukee Brewers. Something is not right with Leonard Fournett's hamstring,
and the Jaguars running back will miss his hams and
strung by his HAMSTRINGU is it? This? Isn't this the
m O on Leonard Fournette. I mean, for as great
as he was in college, injuries, weren't they the issue?
And now when the NFL is going to miss that
game against the Chiefs because the hamstring injury which forced
(02:00:16):
him to miss two games earlier this season, Yeah, it's
and it's one of those things to where, um, there
are you know how many college football players like, well,
you know, I don't want to sacrifice my but if
I beat up my body, I won't be as good
a pro. It's like or if you can't stay healthy
in college, you're not gonna stay healthy in the pros.
How about this from the NBA. Yahoo Sports is reporting
the Clippers have made an offer to the timber Wolves
(02:00:37):
for Jimmy Butler, but the Wolves want Tobias Harrison return
as part of a package. Clippers aren't interested in giving
up Harris for Jimmy Butler. No, that's a report. Yeah,
well they have The Clippers have just a plethora, a
cornucopia of of guards. Um, they have a schmorge Borg
of guards they have, They have a pot pourri of guards.
(02:01:00):
Want to give up those guards? Not the versatile forwards
they have? He and Danilla Gallinari. That's who they want
to build around, the And and Shay and Shay guilds. Alexander. Yeah,
and haven't we heard the Clippers is a possibility for
Jimmy Butler in free agency. So if if he doesn't
sign a long term deal wherever, he gets traded, if
he gets traded at all, Right, tonight and Seattle. The
(02:01:22):
final event of Key Arena takes place before a huge
renovation of the facility and hopes so bringing the NHL
to the city. And yeah, the next two years they're
hoping for an NHL team this evening. They had they
had they simply renovated the arena back when the Sonics
were there, the Sonics would still be there. Is Kevin
Durant is there tonight now as a member of the Warriors,
(02:01:43):
but the former Sonic will take on the Sacramento Kings
tonight meet scene as tickets stilled out pretty quickly for
that one. It is a Key Arena. I played there
my senior year in college. What a great venue right
in downtown, right by the Space Needle. It's just a
shame the Sonics. Hey, Vancouver lost her team after five years.
Wonder which one of those Pacific Northwest cities end up
(02:02:03):
getting a team, as the Canadian Dollar one of the
big reasons that Vancouver lost being so down back then.
Billing the big reasons they lost their team to begin with,
and Doug we mentioned the Red River showdown on Fox
tomorrow Oklahoma and Texas at the State Fair of Texas well,
the winner of the most creative food item at the
State Fair of Texas this year was the cotton candy taco. Yeah,
(02:02:27):
it joins the likes of the funnel cake Caso burger,
which one most creative food item last year. Actually sounds terrific.
Deep Fried Thanksgiving Dinner was a couple of years ago.
Deep Fried Butter one and oh nine and also fried
Bubblegum won the honor a few years back. Deep Fried
butter is actually delicious. I've had that? Is it? Really?
(02:02:48):
This is just dough? Is that? I mean, it's delicious.
It's amazing. The funnel cake case burger, funnel cake. My
wife's a big funnal cake girl. It's one of those
things that you like, have to go, right, You just
you have to go and if you go to State Fair,
you've got to try something you would never eat elsewhere
and then you throw up when you get home. Bag,
get out there and pressed. That was the press. What
(02:03:11):
