What did you love?
Speaker 1 (01:24):
God?
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I love you? And what did you hate?
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Meet these player?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Hay Is.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Love love love, hate hate hate? What'd you love from
the weekend? What'd you hate from the weekend? Our resident
love Blah bo is Dan Byer, what'd you love? Dan?
Speaker 4 (01:44):
What a Saturday?
Speaker 5 (01:45):
It was started with the Buckeyes getting a solid win
at Illinois. Now there are many a Buckeye fans who
are not happy with the the run game, maybe not
the creativity on offense. Boring is fine with me if
you're able to do what they were doing. They did
force some turnovers. The running game isn't what it was
(02:06):
last year, but still a good way to start the day, Doug.
We also were supposed to have family over, some cousins
of my wife coming over, and they did, but they
were late, which allowed me to check in on some
of that Indiana Oregon matchup, which was a great college
football game in a great atmosphere. Still weird that it's
Big Ten football, but it was a great contest there
(02:28):
and then went into the NLDS game five had to
have it on mute because the family was over, but
Brewers beat the Cubs five to one, So Saturday was
good all around.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Loved it.
Speaker 6 (02:40):
Hey, Dan, I know that maybe you have this for
your hate, and if you do, I'm sorry for Samona Dap.
I was hoping you were going to mention a certain influencer.
Now you don't have to mention them by name, but
a certain influencer who had the tweet. Ohio State got
lucky that they don't have Indiana on their schedule this year.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, not true, your ire How.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Come people people will say anything, they truly will. And
I don't think that they watch a lot of college football.
I think that maybe they watch a game and one
of them immediately draw an opinion from it. We talked
last week and how no one is talking about Ohio
State at this point. Maybe they're still just thinking there.
It also ran because they just got past Texas, and
(03:26):
Texas hasn't been great. I don't even even know if
they were great against Oklahoma, but they they won on Saturday.
But it's just funny on how teams want to fast
track other teams and Ohio State's lucky they don't face Indiana.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Okay, that's that's fun.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Not saying it would be a blowout in either way,
but I just I find that that sort of commentary.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
Comical.
Speaker 6 (03:49):
Dan.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yes, last year, the Hoosiers, who were undefeated at the time,
had to make a trip to Columbus. Don't you think
it's fair that the buck guys would have to make
a return trip to Bloomington.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
Bloomington.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Absolutely, it was a good game up until a couple
of special teams caps by the Hoosiers and then it
kind of got out of hand. But again, year to year,
it's different in college football. So two completely different teams
from a year ago, but just the the readiness, like
Ohio State hasn't done anything. I think they've actually done
quite a bit so far this year.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
But yeah, no one's talking about the buck Eyes and
they are just because they're just cruising at number one.
They're just like, yeah, pens Well penn in the buck Eyes.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
Yeah, and we'll talk about everybody else if they lose,
everybody else start talking.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Sure, sure, but they're cruising right now. But that's what
I love Saturday. It was a good day, Samon.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Would you love?
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Oh boy?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Well, I hate to be a sore winner here, but
I did love Iowa's shutout went over Wisconsin thirty seven
to nothing in the Heartland Trophy game Saturday night in
Camp Randall there in Madison, Wisconsin listened. Wisconsin is a mess.
They're a mess right now, especially on offense. I know
they've had some quarterback issues, but they just all year.
Last year they were hell bent on getting revenge on
(05:04):
Iowa for pasting the Badgers forty two to ten. This
year they get shut out. I know how painful it
is to get shut out. Iowa was shut out three
times in twenty twenty three and the final year of
a very very inept offense under Brian Farnce.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
Have you seen worst quarterback play in the history of
your life than what you saw from Wisconsin on And
I'm asking an expert because you watch Iowa a lot,
but you've seen worst quarterback play.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
I think from twenty twenty one to twenty twenty three
there might have been something comparable from Iowa if you're
comparing to Wisconsin. But that was like they started out
with the guy that got out of the transfer portal.
I think they're on like their second or third guy. Yes, yes,
it's been rough for them, but correct. They can't even
run the ball. I mean, their entire offense is just
(05:49):
a disaster. So IOWA pretty good defense offense figuring it
out thirty seven to nothing? Are you kidding me? I'm
hoisting right now. Dan got me this little Heartland Trophy
bowl Christmas ornament. It's like a replica of the trophy
and I'm hoisting it up right now in studio. Yes,
both hands, and yet it both hands is very heavy.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
ESPN does their total quarterback Rink rating, which is zero
to one hundred Hunter Simmons of Wisconsin. Would you guys
like to take a guess at what his rating was?
It's zero zero two. You have five dugs in at
five Sam Jason, I'm gonna say eleven eleven Jason seven
and a half. Okay, zero point eight zero zero? How
(06:32):
is that possible?
Speaker 1 (06:34):
That is that bad?
Speaker 4 (06:35):
That eight of twenty one.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
Two yards picked off twice? And I actually think it
looked worse. I saw some highlights, yes, low lights, Oh
it was.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
It was bad, and I almost feel kind of bad though,
like enjoying this win because of how low Wisconsin is
as a program right now, but a shutout.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Think about Iowa. Iowa get got Wisconsin when they stink,
and now Penn State after they fired James Franklin and
Drew Allers.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
And yeah, backup quarterback and interim coach. So they better
not lose that game. That looked really bad for Iowa.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
So I'll tell you what I love. I'm going to
violate the core tenants of a philosophy I have, which is,
don't no one cares about your vacations, about your adult
activities and your fantasy team.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
And you're in C bracket right and you're.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
In sate bracket. But I did I mean this is
there's a lot of luck. This was my fantasy team.
Dan Byer from the Weekend. Ready let's hurt Lad McConkey
Smith and Jigba, Jonathan Taylor, Cam Scattaboo, Tucker Craft, touchdown,
(07:50):
Derrick Henry, Cameron Dicker and and the Rams defense.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Well yes, outside of Henry, Like that's.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Henry still had thirteen points, will still score a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
A real small league team PR.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
League there are ten teams, ten teams, sure team league
four and one. But I mean that was just an
obscene week.
Speaker 7 (08:23):
Obscene week anyway, that's actually that's it's a pretty pretty
good squad, especially with the emergence of Scataboo and getting
his hat trick.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
But what happens with me, there's there's only two things
that happened with me in a fantasy league, well three.
One I won the league, and these guys I was
with I'd grown up playing football with my boy Joe Prato,
and they got all mad because I didn't attend the draft.
The next year, I was like, hey, I'm in Wisconsin.
I can't attend the draft. Like, dude, you just like
(08:55):
win the league and think you're all cool. It's like
I don't live there anymore. And anyway, But what happens
usually is I lose interest, right, I lose a couple
of games, I lose interest. Or what's most what's happened
recent years when I've done pretty well is I lose interest,
and then I have a couple of guys get hurt
right before the playoffs, like in first or second place,
(09:17):
and then my running back gets hurt right for the playoffs,
and then I really lose interests. I'm like, I don't
I haven't followed it enough this year, I'm locked in
because I want the money. I didn't give this one.
I haven't won yet. I want the money. I'm gonna
give it back and put it in for the party,
but I want the money.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
Well I think with that. You know that lineup in
lad mccackey, by the way, at the start of the
year was not good for you, but now he has emerged, correct, Jase.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
You know, among the list of things that you just mentioned,
no one wants to know about your fantasy team, your
NC double A tournament team and Dan we'll probably say
nobody wants to hear about your golf round. You know
how you hit the shot on seven team. Another one
of those things is people don't want to hear about
your bad beats and poker. When you play a lot
(10:07):
of tournament poker, as I have in my lifetime, you
don't want to hear the other guy complain about bad beats.
We all experience with them. But that gets me around
to my love. So it was birthday weekend for me
and I told Christina, my super hot girlfriend. I said,
the one thing I want for a birthday, my birthday
is for me and Jacob to play in a card
(10:28):
tournament this weekend. So she paid for the entry for
both me and him to get into a tournament at
the gardens in Orange County and free rolled it. Eight
hours later, my son is cashing in second place twenty
three hundred dollars. Wow, zero money into twenty three hundred dollars,
(10:54):
and you'd be like, you know, a great birthday president
would be for me to win it. But no, how
about the a birthday present being as your your poker
protege winning money at a poker tournament.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
And he had.
Speaker 6 (11:07):
He couldn't get the smile off his face. So prod dad,
proud moment, and congratulations to Jacob for doing that.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Is he going to take you on vacation.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
No, he's got a wedding coming up, so that's going
to offset the money that I pay.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
It's going to be great.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
It's Jacob also cast in the survivor baseball pool that
we're in, so it's a swimming and cast twenty twenty
five Year of the Jacob, the Year of the Jacob.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Let's get to what we hated from the weekend. Start
with a resident hater, Jase.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
Too, so like the kind of the cliched low hanging
fruit take with Jim Harborugh nowadays is that he himself
is done away with the term chargering, that we no
longer give away leads late, we no longer let the
the unmissa takable happened. That he has taken control of
(12:03):
this team and we're moving into a different era where
chargering is just going to go by the wayside. And
yesterday they absolutely charged. Now your question is, wait a minute.
I looked at the box score and didn't watch the
game they won. How could they have charged? You didn't
watch the game. They kicked the Dolphins ass for three
(12:24):
plus quarters. I sent you guys a text message yesterday
at the twelve minute part of the game, ESPN had
said that they're a ninety four percent chance of winning
after they settled for yet another field goal. Cameron Dicker
had four field goals early on in the fourth quarter
because they couldn't cash in on kicking the Dolphins ass
(12:47):
the entire game. Somehow, ten minutes later, the Dolphins have
taken the lead. That's what chargering is. They took the
lead and a game they were getting dominated by, and
they almost won a game if it wasn't for Herbert
getting out of a sack to make a miracle throw
to Lad McConkie. So don't give me the Chargers no
(13:10):
longer charger bull crop. That was a chargering that they
got lucky against an awful team. I hated that.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
The Chargers were in the process of charging and then
the Dolphins are like, no, we'll charger over you, and
we'll charger.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
I mean, look, they get the Colts at home, obviously
Cults are good, and then Vikings at home as well,
and then the Titans. So if there's a sauce spot
for a banged debt team, but we'll see how they
play against the Colts. That they raised their level. I
genuinely agree with you. They did charger the difference. So
is that somehow they pulled this one out.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Dan Doug.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
I'm actually piggybacking off of your lead of the show today.
I hated that Penn State fired James Franklin. James Franklin
didn't have to stick around for twenty twenty six. But
to think that this team was in national championship winning
contention in late September, fifteen days prior to the firing,
(14:12):
they were playing a competitive game against Oregon. Now they
have a completely off day against UCLA, and sure the
loss to Northwestern is probably inexcusable, but to dismiss him
at this time, to me, makes everything that I agree
with everything that you said. What a bad job by
the administration and the front office. And there are rumors
(14:35):
that the shoe company and the shoe deal and the
apparel deal may have had something to do with it.
Even if that was the case, he still could have
waited to the end of the year. I don't know
what we are doing in college sports. I don't know
what we're doing in college football, but to fire James
Franklin at this point I thought was ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
So I agree with you, Doug, completely, completely agree. I
have a question.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
We have a US to our way, Yes, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Question for Dan and for everybody. If Drew Aller had
not sustained a season ending injury, do you think it
would he still would have been fired James Franklin because
now it's like you don't have a quarterback, and so
you don't have a team.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Now.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
No, yeah, it's completely team. The only guy that could
probably keep your team together was James Franklin. So you
never have a team. I don't know what they're doing
yet another month, a month and a half. Right, you
don't make the playoff, you turned down a bull bid,
you say we're not going. That's fine, just get to
the end of November, six more weeks. That's all it was.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Correct. Correct, it's a joke. What's happening in college athletics?
And it's like they're competitive, like, oh, you think you
can fire, you get ahead of us. Arkansas fire is
a guy, and then Oklahoma State fire is a guy,
and then like, what are we doing? What's the point.
It's almost like you have to be in a like
(16:01):
we gotta be an a hole because we're losing instead
of and then and then they'll all put out some
like post on social media like thank you so much?
Speaker 3 (16:11):
What had you in the playoff winning games last year?
Speaker 4 (16:18):
That's the thing. They won two of them. I know
they won two of them.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
And honestly, honest to God, I'm with Dan, I swear
to god, you can fire a coach. That's fine. What
are we doing? Here's the hypocrisy to it. I never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever,
I don't want to hear Oklahoma States different. I don't
want to hear Penn States different. Stop it.
Speaker 8 (16:40):
You're a bunch of freaking liars. Our place is different.
We treat people with class, with dignity. It's about the
student athlete experience. Okay, So James Franklin recruit every one
of those players. They're gonna go through senior night and
he's not gonna be there to shake their hand.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
They have some interim coach. Nobody's gonn everybody's gonna fired
and be three quarters full. Why? Why?
Speaker 4 (16:58):
What?
Speaker 1 (16:59):
And again what was gained by firing a coach? Does
he have any off the field issues? Has he committed
any nancy A violations?
Speaker 9 (17:08):
No?
Speaker 1 (17:09):
His crime. The only punishable crime, they will tell you
in college sports is what losing everything else you can
come back from. Okay. So, Penn State a program that
was disgraced. Okay, Penn State, just see people are aware. Okay,
Penn State used to have a big sign in their
athletic department and it said success with honor, Success with honor,
(17:35):
and that was all brought down Okay because of the
scandal that led to the ouster of Joe Paterno, then
Joe Paterno's death right, and then Sandusky affair. So they
start to rebuild with with O'Brien he leaves. James Franklin
comes in, and he takes it from a used to
(17:56):
be unbelievably programmed to one that was pretty good and
and in this really challenging times, gets it to the
first ever college Fall playoffs and they're picked top ten.
They get the quarterback to come back, and so you
fire a guy six games in the season. Where's the
honor in it? Don't tell me we are Penn Streight.
We're so much better.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
No, you're not.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
You're just like the schools in the South that you
act like you're morally superior to. You are okay, you're
a football factory. And it also opens up the door
to the Hey, the real reason you didn't look at
the Sandusky thing was because you're winning at the time.
And the only thing that matters in state College is
the only thing that matters in still Water is the
only thing that matters in Norman is the only matters
(18:38):
that any schools is winning and losing again, and it
has no honor to it. I don't know. James Franklin
not a friend of mine. He's not an enemy of mine.
I know that you treated him like crap. And more importantly,
you treat all those players like crap. And the only
thing they did was lose three games. That's what they
did wrong. Shame on them. Yeah, I hated it too.
(18:59):
The heat through you.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
I love that, and that is love and hate.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
We're not quite done yet.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Also, he's getting forty nine million dollars so he won't
be in a van down by the river, which is nice.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
No, no, but and listen, and.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Which is absurd. Forty nine million dollars the second biggest
buyo it of all. No, it's not.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Do you know why coaches have those big buyouts.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
That's a lot of money.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
No, do you know why they have those big buys?
Speaker 4 (19:22):
Tell me why he's getting forty nine million.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
The idea is, we have this ridiculous buyout, so if
I have a bad run where I lose a couple
of games in a row, you can't fire me. You
let me work it.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
That didn't work, they said, Now now you're.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Gonna pay fifty million dollars and all you're gonna do
is increase student fees and go back to the same
donors and ask him for more money and more hope.
And meanwhile you set the program back. I mean, they're
not obviously not gonna finish grade this year. Next year
they want it, Well, it's gonna it takes two years.
Takes two years.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
So but hey, Nitney Lyon, Steve and Eerie is sure
happy today because he can go to the message board and.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Fire everybody because they lost a game. Dumb, that's love
and hate again. I want to make sure this is
very clear, okay, And when we edit this thing and
we put it on social media, you are absolutely allowed
(20:20):
to fire a coach, all of it. Like every coach
will tell you, you're just your coach till you get fired.
That's your expectations. At some point. Everybody gets fired. But
a man, I lost. If you fired a coach, like what,
you just act like a You act like an insignificant,
(20:41):
insecure teenager who can't handle the fact that you're not
as good as you thought you should be. He doesn't
win big games, you're allowed to fire him. He did
win two college fotball playoff games. There's no bigger games
than those. Sorry.
Speaker 2 (21:00):

Speaker 1 (21:14):
Fire everybody, right, fire them, fire them all. That seems
to be working for people in college supports. I'm not
really sure. Thanks Dan Stugtab Show on Fox Sports Radio.
So the Dolphins find a way to lose the game
that they probably rightfully should have won against the Chargers,
(21:34):
and this was Tua Tugo Voloa after the game.
Speaker 9 (21:39):
I think it starts with the leadership in helping articulate
that for the guys, and then what we're expecting out
of the guys, right, we're expecting this?
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Are we getting that? Are we not getting that?
Speaker 9 (21:50):
We have guys showing up to player only meetings late,
guys not showing up to player only meeting Like, there's
a lot that goes into that. Do we have to
make this mandatory? Do we not have to make this mandatory?
So so it's it's a lot of uh, it's a
lot of things of that nature that we got to
get cleaned up. And it starts with the little things
(22:11):
like that.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Okay, So Tua Takabailoa, who's been in the NFL. I'm
gonna ask Sam, don't you guys help? What year do
you think this is for Tua?
Speaker 4 (22:23):
What years is for Tua? This is your seven.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Okay, you're six, you're close, you're six, okay. But the
point is none of us would say he's young or inexperience, right. Correct,
he's twenty seven years old. He's the face of the franchise.
So when he talks about the leadership and what the
leadership needs to do, kind of talk about himself. And
then he says, he admits that they had a player's
(22:52):
only meeting where some guys didn't come and other guys
were late. Here's Mike McDaniel, the head coach who's course
under fire, talked about this comments earlier today.
Speaker 10 (23:02):
Doesn't surprise me. Whatever reaction, I think, you know, regardless
of an intent, and you know what was onto his
mind after a loss as the franchise quarterback, that's not
the form to displace that. I think he knows that now.
I do honestly believe it was not. There's no ill intention,
(23:23):
But you're you're talking about, I think, kind of a
misguided representation of player orchestrated film sessions.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
You also have to admit he had three interceptions and
whether or not they're his fault or his wide receiver's
faults because they weren't on the same page. In the
immediate aftermath of a game in which you lose, and
you've lost four or five games and your only win
is over the Jets, the only thing people want to
(23:56):
hear is it's on me. I got to be better,
I got to do a better job me. It's all
about me, Like the coaches and quarterbacks have to the
exact same thing. If you lose, it's all on you. Again,
that doesn't mean two is not a blamer. He's always
been accountable. But this is to and again we don't
(24:17):
know the question whatever, but how it comes out, it's
such a great sound bite. Every sports radio show in
the country that talks anything national should play that sound.
If somebody's not playing that sound I don't think they're
doing their job. Because you have a star quarterback, a
guy who everybody knows who's on a team that is
(24:37):
in last place, a coach that was the hottest coach
in the NFL two years ago and now very likely
to be fired. And Tua was the guy who's always
said everything perfectly right. He's always been the guy that man,
he just says he just when he took Jalen Hurts
the spot. Both of them were amazing and how they
(24:59):
handled it at Alabama, and I was like, yeah, we
got we gotta talk to the leadership's got to get
that cleaned up. We got guys late to players only meetings,
missing player only meetings. Like You're like, what, well, if
you can't get them become to players only meetings, then
you're not a leader. Dan, what'd you hear when you
hear that the cut?
Speaker 5 (25:19):
Yeah, I thought it threw Mike McDaniel under the bus.
If that's the leadership that he was talking about, I
thought he threw himself inadvertently under the bus. Because if
you're the quarterback, if you're six years into the game
and the players aren't respecting your player only meetings and
aren't showing up, I think that it's an indictment on
your leadership. And if you're not saying these things to
(25:41):
these players, then it's even worse to their faces that.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
You're going to the media and saying it.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
I don't know if he was trying to help Mike McDaniel,
but I don't think that he helped them in this case.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
I don't need your help. You're not helping.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
Right, hey, you are not at all. The players have
already checked out so much so that they don't even
respond to their own teammates.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Yes, correct, that's what he's saying, saying they're done. He's saying,
fire the coach because they're not listening to them. Jaseu,
what'd you hear?
Speaker 6 (26:16):
I thought the whole thing about player only meetings is
that nothing is talked about from player own a meeting.
So it would kind of like be Tyler Durden, like
the superego from Fight Club being like, hey, you know
what happened to five Club last night? They someone almost
got killed, someone went to the hospital, which violates the
one rule about the Fight Club. To me, it was
(26:39):
like that he was saying what he was thinking, like
at some point six years in, you need to check that, like, yeah,
I need to take care of what's happening with these
player owned meetings. But telling the reporters, I mean, it's
just such a violation I think of that whole trust.
I don't know. That's not good at all.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
Not good at all.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Uh, Sandwich Year, Well, like when you you were you
were Dan saying that Tua is always a very team
first guy, and just to hear him say that was
definitely out of character for him, and he must be
frustrated and the team is frustrated. Yeah, you don't usually
hear that from someone like Tua because he's very positive
and for him to call guys out, it's uh, certainly
(27:24):
showing a crack in the in the damn here, I'll.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Tell you something interesting and and he I'm gonna say
through two interceptions. The last one was like, you know,
they had five seconds left in the game and they
just threw one up. But still he did turn the
ball over twice. But it was also in a game
where they did come back and they showed resolve and
they almost won it. A couple of mistackles on Herbert,
mistackle on Lad McConkey. If they would have lost like
the Titans lost yesterday to the Raiders, where there just
(27:47):
wasn't anything there after a after a win the week prior,
then I could I could maybe understand it a little.
I actually think that it's a weird spot to be
in a close game and have your team come back
and all mst win it and losing the heartbreaking fashion
To say that, I thought that would have come after
a forty to six loss, you know, in a game.
Speaker 6 (28:08):
But Dan and I saw them almost beat the Bills
on Thursday night in Buffalo, wasn't it? Didn't they lose
the Patriots on the very last player a kickoff or
something they could have They could have three more wins
right now, Like, this isn't a team that seems to
be given up on the field. So yeah, maybe that's no.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
But he's basically saying they have terrible culture, which was
supposedly a problem last year. And then, in all candor,
most people I think thought, well, that was Jalen Ramsey
and Tyreek Hill, right, Tyreek Hill's hurt. Jalen Ramsey's not
there anymore, right, so you're like, oh, well better, and
then he's like, basically he said, like, naw, our chemistry
is still bad. Guys are missing players on the meetings.
(28:49):
I don't think that was a I don't think that
was I think he threw himself under the bus. I
don't think it was a McDaniel thing because he said
players only meetings. He didn't say coaches. Players are missing
meetings with coaches.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
He said with players, correct, But he also said the
leadership on this team, and I think that when you
think of leadership, and by the way, Mike McDaniel's job
cannot be saved. Like it is gone. It's done, it's over.
It's no matter what happens. They could run the table
and he's probably still gone. They're not going to run
the table. But to Jason's point, they lost to the
Patriots at home by six the game that we saw
(29:20):
in Buffalo, they were competitive through ut Buffalo just made
a few more plays. They then beat the Jets on
Monday Night Football. They lost a close game to the
Panthers last week, and then they lost this close one
to the Chargers here. So they've been they've been close.
They've been competitive in five out of their six games
this year. Timing of it was just was weird to me.
(29:44):
Maybe it was a last ditch effort to save Mike
McDaniel's job. But when you're talking about the player leadership,
there is no bigger leader for player leadership than did
the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Yeah, that was so weird. He was talking about the
player leers like you know, it's it's it's like the
chef going like who cooked this garbage? You did? You know?
Player leadership, we gotta get guys like well, you're the quarterback,
you're in your six year you're the highest paid player
on the team. I don't know to it. What do
(30:16):
you think, Bob? Very very odd, very odd. But these
sorts of things usually proceed coaches being fired and quarterback
changes being made. So m all right, come up with
the Doug Gottlieb Show. We're gonna preview, but we are not.
We're gonna preview, okay, but what are we not going
(30:38):
to do? Jason Stewart, what do you hate the most?
I could predict? I could predict preview the double dose
of doubleheaders tonight.

do you got, Doug.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
The Indianapolis Colts gotta win yesterday against the Arizona Cardinals,
but it wasn't easy holding off Jacoby Brissett, who filled
in for the injured Kyler Murray. It was also a
game where Arizona lost Marvin Harrison Junior to a concussion.
They were already short in the backfield because of James
Connor and Trey Benson's injury. But still the Cardinals hung
tough and gave the Colts all they could ask for.
(31:53):
But Indianapolis wins thirty one to twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Game.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
Probably not the toughest part of the day for Indianapolis.
Apparently it's pregame because there were not one, but two
incidents that happened prior to the Colts win against the
Cardinals yesterday. Anthony Richardson fractured an orbital bone working out
pregame with exercise bands cornered Savariu's Ward suffered a concussion
in pregame. He collided with teammate ten and drew Ogletree
(32:19):
where it looked like Ward was knocked out for a
moment before being helped up by team doctors and other personnel.
But a crazy pregame situation with Indianapolis the Colts, by
the way, placed Richardson on injured reserve with his eye injury.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
That is crazy. It's you do start to feel bad
for the guy, right because he gets like anytime he
got close to playing, got hurt whatever. But now he's
become that guy.
Speaker 8 (32:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Are you familiar with the term that most teams use
when a guy is constantly having something some sort of
bad luck, some caused by him, just some cause by
bad luck.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Snake bitten? Is that one? Would that be? R?
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Get right?
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Can't get it right, get right?
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Can't get right? Oh you know Anthony can't get right?
Oh okay, I can't get right.
Speaker 5 (33:10):
I saw the video of the Colts players warming up,
and I thought that's how Anthony Richardson got injured because
I was in yesterday morning and the first reports were
Anthony richards In healthy scratch, So you knew that was
going to be a conversation. Then every insider had to
correct their words and say no, he actually got injured
or pregame warm ups and then I saw the video
(33:31):
and I'm like, oh, that must have been it, and
it's like, no, that was a completely separate issue. So
the Colts rolling during in games before them, not so much.
Brian Callahan, fired today as the Titans head coach, lasted
just over one season, twenty three games in all Titans
one in five.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
They're bad. But I'd also tell you that this is
the classic case of hired by one GM and you
know fired. When that GM is fired, everybody wants to
hire their guy. And as much as we like to go, hey,
how much verbiage can you put into a rookie quarterback?
Jared Goff's rookie coach got fired. Kayleb Williams rookie year
(34:09):
coach got fired. We've seen another rookie year coach get fired.
So I do think they'll be okay there. They also
have a talent problem, Let's just be honest. There they
When they trade away AJ Brown, I thought it was
the right move, but they haven't been able to use
those picks or get enough talent to survive these down years.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
Yeah, Traylon Burks did not work out as the first
round pick. Jeffrey Simmons, you talked with Tom tellsco He
mentioned Simmons comments after the game on how their practice
was not good this past week despite that win that
come from behind win against Arizona last week.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
A couple of other notes to pass along.
Speaker 5 (34:45):
North Carolina had football coach Bill Belichick called the reports
of him working on an exit strategy with school officials
is categorically false.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
I tend to believe him, but I also think that
the amount of vitriol there some of it. Look, I
experienced it. When you get opportunities and other people do not,
you know at the sign of when you're struggling, they're
going to come out. But I also think it's a
lot of how he how some of the guys he's
hired in the past that treated people. But I do
(35:19):
find it hard to believe that he's going to walk
away year one. Competitive guys don't wave the white flag
like that. They want to fix it.
Speaker 5 (35:26):
And in college Hoops before we get to our Monday
Night look Ahead pod, Purdue is ranked number one in
the preseason AP Top twenty five Men's College Hoops Bowl. Houston, Florida,
Yukon and Saint John's round out the top five.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
They've done a great job of attention, and that's a
that's a big reason why the one maybe the elite
program in the country, and that's the press Bay get
out there and pressed.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
That was the press.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Okay, interesting night in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (35:52):
Go ahead, Jase, you know the Commander's play tonight, right,
So just to let the listeners know on something, here
we go. Yeah, I'm five and oh, but in against
Colin Cowherd's favorite game of the week five and oh.
His favorite game of the week has loshed against the
spread for five straight weeks.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
That's almost mister bears now right, mister bears Bears.
Speaker 6 (36:13):
And if you're asking like, oh wow, how come he
didn't tell us your favorite play of the week on Friday,
because you still have time to get to the gambling window.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Doug, my favorite bet of the week is the Commander's
minus four and a half.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Well it's it's five and a half, now five and
a half, So you like the Bears.
Speaker 6 (36:33):
No, I'm not going to tell anybody what the best Oh,
he's zero and five against the spread.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
Colin liking the Commanders and then the number raising sure
feels like that Colin's on the side of the public
and maybe not the Sharps.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Yeah, yeah, maybe he's in the reverse psychology thing because
he's like mister Bear.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Now, Jake Moody activated for the Bears, so you can
see him kicking tonight, the former forty nine ers kicker.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
Well, we have a spot where all four games are
going on.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
Yes, it's the staggered start seven fifteen fifteen.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
I just mean the the first baseball game has to
go long for that to happen.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
You could have four games going on at one time.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Actually, Dodgers winning night, Jace doo oh no, tune in tomorrow.
