(00:21):
listening to Fox Sports Radio Boom America. Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio coming to you from the beautiful sunny
city of Los Angeles, California, and we have an incredible
show for you. Trent Dilfer is gonna join us upcoming

(00:43):
at twenty after the hour, we'll talk to the Super
Bowl champion former quarterback about the fund in the dysfunction
in Cleveland. Get to that in a moment. If you
haven't been paying attention to sports radio, man, man, have
you missed a wild morning in Cleveland? Sports A bad
team making all the headlines on Monday instead of talking

(01:05):
about Tie Montgomery's personal meltdown, or about or talking about
the Rams remaining undefeated, or even the Red Sox being
the rightful world champion and what it means for Clayton
Kershaw and Dave Roberts, etcetera, etcetera. We'll get to the
Browns in a second. Lamar Miller from the suddenly Resurgent
and first place Houston Texans will join us next hour,

(01:27):
so too well. Nick Swisher and Michael Lombardi will join us.
Uh he formerly a member of Cleveland's front office, will
give us a sense of what their future direction is
going to be. There's a lot to get to and
I honestly, when we started planning and plotting out this show,
it was one of those deals to which I kept

(01:47):
saying to myself, don't talk about the Browns. Don't talk
about the Browns. Don't talk about the Browns. And it
wasn't because I'm an anti brown I don't care enough
about the Cleveland Browns to not mention the Cleveland Browns.
It was just that, like, look, they're not a playoff team.
They've been horrible the past two years, and they're at
least competitive, although marginally so, and not gonna make the

(02:07):
playoffs this year. Why would you leave your show middle
of the NFL season with a franchise like that. I'll
tell you why in a second. But I want to
talk about the Red Sox winning the World Series and
whether or not they're actually as good as the hundred
nineteen wins will tell you. I wanted to talk about
how ty Lou is basically getting blessed to collect money

(02:28):
for losses he would have taken on his resume. I
wanted to talk about the Rams being the Packers and
how Time Montgomery's ill timed hero ball combined with Mason
Crosby missing all those field goals going back several weeks ago,
and you run the risk. You run the risk of
Aaron Rodgers missing the playoffs because of those two players.

(02:50):
I wanted to talk about the Kan City Chiefs, who
the world seems to be kind of creeping up on
their offense. They're not as dominant as they should you
would think have been. Or the Carolina Panthers, who were
all hailing Cam Newton as some sort of hero and
savior an m v P cannd but it's not close.
But the team is really really good, yet we don't

(03:10):
consider them to be some elite team because of the
second best team in their division. Or it's the Saints
who won and only have one loss on their season
and they went into Minnesota won the game, but I
kind of think that was more about Feeling's fumble, Stefon
Diggs quitting on a route and the Kwan treadwell penalty
and ill time drop. I think it's more about that,

(03:30):
but instead I'm dragged back in in talking about the
Cleveland Browns. That's because the news is it's just too good, right,
It's just too good. It's kind of like, I don't
know how you guys ordered a restaurant you've never been to,
but I always do this, you know, one meal before
you die, and the waitress, a waiter will say, excuse me, no, no,

(03:55):
If you're gonna eat at your restaurant one time and
then you're gonna die, you can only eat one more time,
what will you eat? And whether it's an entree, you know?
Like I was in Tallahassee, Florida on Friday, and I
went and I sat at this restaurant at at a
hotel called the Lodge, and they were like, look, the
shrimper and grits is amazing. Now. I like shrimping grits,

(04:16):
but shrimp and grits, if you know how it's made,
is not exactly good for you. Right, there's grits, there's butter,
there's shrimp, there's gravy, there's bacon, it's all on top.
It's amazing, but it should come with an angioplastic it
really should. It's like if you say what's good for dessert,
and like, look, rubar pie here is amazing. Do you

(04:36):
like gumbar? Probably I've never thought of myself liking rubar pie,
but I'll try it because you said it's so good.
That's what we have with Cleveland and not a great
football team or not, they're an interesting football team and
they're a team that America thinks we know because we
saw them on a hard knocks and we have Baker Mayfield,

(04:58):
and we have Hugh Jackson, who somehow kept his job
with the new gentleal manager in spite of the fact
won one game in two years. Like it was all
kinds of weird, just going like, I'd rather talk about
what is Tampa doing bailing on Jamis Winston when they
owe him twenty million dollars next year and playing Ryan Fitzpatrick,
who we know is average at best when you start him.

(05:21):
But instead I'm I'm brought back in. And it's because
the rhubarb pie here is so good. It's because the
shrimp and grits is so incredibly delicious. The Browns aren't
good for you. But the Browns today not only fired
Hugh Jackson their head coach, but then they fired the

(05:41):
offensive coordinator as well. I got what, yeah, that that
actually happened. That actually happened. See, there was a standoff
between Todd Haley, the offensive coordinator who was hired by
John Dorsey Murder. Todd Haley never quite it fit in
in Pittsburgh. He and Ben Roethlisberger never got along. Todd

(06:02):
Haley relieve of his duties in Pittsburgh, somehow ends up
in Cleveland. And from the moment you turned on Hard
Knocks on HBO, their reality show, you were like, those
two guys, don't see those guys, meaning those guys the
offensive coordinator in the head coach, they don't get along.

(06:23):
I understand that some things are done for television, some
things are done for reality shows. Some things or it's
like the Bachelor or the Bachelorette, where some guys are
on there simply to make a second career for themselves,
not actually to win her or his hand, right, But
I think a blind man could see that Hugh Jackson
and Todd Haley are just wired differently from how many

(06:47):
reps guys got to the stuff they were running. And
even you go back a week and a half ago
when Hugh Jackson was like, Hey, I'm gonna take over
the offense. Now the stories persist that Todd Haley did
whatever the hell Todd Haley want to do. And if
you want to know why you lose so many close games,
this is why the difference in the NFL is a

(07:10):
player here, a play there. It's no different than in
watching Major League baseball. I know the Red Sox won
in five games, but a decision here, a play there,
a hit there, and air here. That's the that's that's
what determines who's a champion. And now of a sudden,
the Dodgers of all these questions. For much of the

(07:31):
game yesterday, the Packers outplayed the Rams in the coliseum,
which was fifty fifty Rams fans Packer fans. But here's
a play. The Packers choose on their own one yard
line after incredible punt to run the football, something that
they don't do well. When you have two of the
best defensive linemen in the game, and domin Con Sue

(07:53):
and Aaron Donald in shocker here they get a safety.
So instead of being up ten nothing and putting that
ball in the hands the best quarterback in the NFL,
they run the football get stuffed. Not only did they
give up two points, but now they gotta punt it
away to that Rams offense. That's one play. Time Montgomery
misses a block on the last possession the Packers had

(08:15):
the football causes a sack, keeps them off track, they
have to punt. Rams end up scoring a touchdown. That's
two plays. And then time Montgomery fumbles that's through on
the ensuing kickoff. That's three plays. And then oh yeah,
by the way, they might have gotten the ball back
down six if they could get a stop on third down.
They can't. Todd Gurley goes around the end, could have

(08:35):
scored a touchdown, instead takes a knee. Everybody champions him,
even though it really mathematically should have gone into the
end zone. Let's hit four plays, four four place. If
any of those four plays go differently, Packers beat the Rams.
That's the difference thing winning and losing. And then you

(08:56):
look at the Cleveland rounds. Sure they got kicking issues,
but I'm sure if I called it had a Cleveland
Brown friend call in. He'd be like, look, I can
pick out four plays in which they're five and two
instead of two and five. You're right, And the reason
that losing teams lose is when your offense corder and
your head coach can't get along. The beauty to the

(09:18):
entire thing is Todd Haley also relieved of his duties
and they hire Greg Williams to be the interim head coach.
Greg Williams the defensive coordinator. Greg Williams has been a
bunch of places, also a guy that has tendency to
come in and kind of we're at his welcome now.
They have the best turnover ratio in the NFL because
they don't throw it a ton, they run in a ton,

(09:39):
and their defense is a bunch of ball hawks. That's
Greg Williams style that helped him win a Super Bowl
when he was in New Orleans shortly before after shortly
before bounty Gate, which he was suspended by the NFL
for telling guys to bring the wood and if said
player was taken out of the game, they'd get a
cash bonus. And you can sit here and tell me
it didn't happen. With exceptions in fact, there's audio tapes

(10:02):
of him and videotapes of him doing the cash symbol
right before the Packers game. And then when Brett Fave
goes out of the game, guy comes over the sideline says,
pay me my money. So that absolutely happened. But here's
the kicker, Greg Williams team which is loaded with Town
on the defensive side of the football. Points per game,

(10:23):
twenty yards allowed per game twenty six and yards per game,
pass yards per game, and rush yards per game. In
in total yards allowed this season at three thousand, three
hundred and sixteen, and there this season in total rush
yards with one thousand and oh yeah. By the way,
his best defensive player, the former number one overall pick,

(10:46):
just questioned his game playing against Pittsburgh Steelers, who they
lost to yet again yesterday. I understand what Jimmy has
them is doing, all right. Jimmy has them. I'm a
parent of twins. You come back home, they're twelve years
old now. Sometimes you let him stay home alone, and
you come home and they're crying and they're fighting, and

(11:09):
they're both saying he did she did it, No, she
did That's what happened. Jimmy has some walks in and
his head coach is saying, I can't run an offense,
we can't win games because of Todd Haley, and Todd
Haley is like, look, we can't win games because of
Hugh Jackson. And instead of picking sides, he put them

(11:31):
both on. He put them both on punishment. And in
this case, the only thing you can do is fire both.
I'm completely against firing a coach mid season because it's
simply promotes the dysfunction within an organization, but in this
particular case, I kind of get it. Wait wait, wait,

(11:53):
you two can't get along, you two can't coexist. And
as much as you can say, hey, look, you should
fire Todd Haley even though he was hired, I the gm.
The fact is, if you're Hugh Jackson and you can't
command a room like Todd Haley, not doing what you
asked him to do is actually a sign of your
lack of leadership. So normally I wouldn't talk about the

(12:16):
Cleveland Browns. Normally I wouldn't have had stripping grits. Normally
I wouldn't eat rubarb pie for dessert, but man, the
stripping grints is so good, and man, this brown stuff
is so I mean only and and then the Calves
are sitting there going, hey, we just fired Tyl. You
went to three NBA finals. We owe a bunch of money.
They're owing six. We find Oh, and then Larry Drew

(12:39):
doesn't want to be the inner head coach unless he
gets a long term contract. I don't believe in curses
except for Cleveland. And I know that many people believe
that Lebron overcame the curse. No, no, no no, this sort
of stuff. It shows the superhuman f orts of Kyrie

(13:01):
and Lebron. This is this is extraterrestrial sort of stuff.
This is something that had the lake Erie used to
be polluted famously caught on fire. They've cleaned it up,
but whatever it is has leaked into the water. Man.
Do I love you Cleveland? I love your rhubarb pie.
Super Bowl champion Trent Hilfer joins the show up coming next.

(13:23):
Of course, I'm gonna ask him about the Browns. I'm
also gonna ask him if Campa Bay is making the
right decision by benching Jamis Winston and did Aaron Aaron
Rodgers overreact when Time Montgomery went hero Ball? That upcoming next,
But first, you know it's not smart. Not smart is

(13:44):
taking the ball out of the end zone when you're
down two points on the road and you have the
best quarterback, best fourth quarterback in the history of the game,
best fourth quarter quarterback who's never turned the ball over
this season in the fourth quarter. That's not smart. Um
Also not smart, put all your lifely savings and earnings
into winning the power ball not smart. You know what

Your reaction to making instead of getting rid of one other,
Hugh Jackson or getting rid of Todd Haley, Jimmy has
some causing both in says you're both fired. What how

(15:34):
do you think this affects most importantly Baker Mayfield? Yeah,
I think that's the headliner is how the most basis
Mayfield my guest and again it's all speculation right now.
My guess is that Jimmy has what I was looking
at this saying I had this function between head coach
and offensive coordinator. Um, I don't see uh the innovation

(15:55):
offensively that I wanted to see that when I'm looking
at Chicago, I'm looking at Kansas, see Philadelphia, and look
at UH in Annapolis. I don't see that same type
of innovation. Um. And it's probably less hurtful for just
to cut bait now and let Baker get through this
year as in developmental, developmental year, getting reps, being the

(16:17):
quarterback and everything got entails day in and day out,
and then rebuild next year bringing a guy that like
in Maggie in Chicago or you know, a fresh mind,
fresh innovator, somebody that can get the most out of
my quarterback. Okay, so it's a good it's a great
question because this all happened. I was sitting there getting
ready to go on set with with Cowherd, and I

(16:37):
know you went out with him today as well, and
I'm just wondering. You know, everybody's mentioning Lincoln Riley. Um,
you know Cliff Kingsbury would would be the other offensive
mind that people really like in the NFL, that's in college.
The problem with Kingsbury is he didn't have a great
history with Baker Mayfield. I don't know if that that
if that changes if they work together in the NFL.
But who are the NFL guys that NFL got people

(16:58):
are talking about? Is the next mcveigh's, the next Naggi's,
the next guys who can be offensive innovators if given
the opportunity. Right now. Guy again, I'm not sitting there
calling GMS and asking who they're looking at. I'm we're
just studying college football and what it looks. I think
Ryan Day that I don't how a state is a

(17:18):
guy that um a lot of people look at has
an opportunity to become a big time head coach book
in college or the NFL. Marcus Arroyo, who's up in Oregon,
is another guy that has been around the NFL game,
has been around the college game. Has installed up in Oregon.
A how a run game with good offensive line play,
but also very innovative passing game. Those are the guys

(17:40):
that have my my eye on. And I think Lincoln
Riley obviously is the best option. I think he's a
guy that you know. I think he's clearly the best
innovator in college football, and I think his stuff would
work in pro football. But I also understand the argument,
why would you leave Oklahoma to go to the NFL.
Who's to say that's a better job. So I think
that's gonna be The hard thing is pulling some of
these young guys you're having success in college and trying

(18:02):
to convince him that the NFL gigs a better dig
Great point Trent deal for joining us on the Dug
Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. UM. Jamis Winston has
always had an issue with turnovers. He had four interceptions yesterday,
gets pulled and Ryan Fitzpatrick comes in in his place,
ties up the game. They nearly win the game a
little Fits magic. Today it's announced that Jamis is back
on the bench and Fits is going to start. Even

(18:24):
though they owe Jamis Winston twenty million dollars next years,
they picked up his fifth year option. Do you think
this is the right move? Well? Do they? I honestly,
this is an honest question. Do they own the money
no matter what? Or only yes he's injured? Can you
cut bait after year four? If you've picked up the
fifth year option. I don't. I don't believe they can
cut bait. What yes, what let me go. Let me

(18:46):
go to Dan by Hell, let me go to Dan Buyer.
Dan's Dan's looking at the trends point it's it's injury
only guaranteed, so they don't own the money. Correct, they
can cut bait after fourth year. So he's done. Yeah,
that was my understanding, and so I look at it
two ways. I think he'll be if they're truly moving on,
He's going to be an active for the rest of

(19:07):
the year. So I think that's number one. Will know
whether they are moving on from Jamis to Winston based
on whether he is active, because you're not gonna have
as the backup. Something happens, if it's magic, he comes in,
he hurts something, and now that you're on the hook
for the twenty plus million in year five. So I
think that that will be the big tell tell sign.

(19:27):
I don't necessarily know if that's where they're headed. I
still think a talent like Jameis Winston is worth continue
to grow and develop. And yes, I don't disagree with
anything that anybody's saying. He has been a turnover machine,
but he is very talent. He does have a lot
of chrisma. He is respected that locker room, whether people
believe so or not. And I think that maybe this

(19:48):
is just to sit down and quiet your mind and
get humbled a little bit. I think that's one way
of looking at it. Or if they choose to make
him an act of the rest of your then they're
saying we're moving on and we're drafting another guy. Yeah,
that's why the Redskins remember bench aargually three. A couple
of years ago, there was talk of that with Blake Bortles.
Then Blake Bortles had a surgery in the off season,
right after the season, and so then they had to

(20:09):
rework his deal. That's why they're on the they're on
the hook for him. Let let me ask you about Jacksonville.
Now you've seen Blake Bortles yet again, what do you
do if you're Jacksonville. Trade deadline is tomorrow. Yeah, I
mean it's a bigger issue than Blake portals. As we've
talked about now, he's not played well and he deserves
obviously some of the blame um, But when you're veteran
defensive leaders are doing the things they're doing and you're

(20:30):
the number one defense in the league, and you're getting
gash weekend and week out, and you're there's dissension the
locker room. This is obviously as the stomach issue within
the team. Now saying all that, maybe the way you
re energize your team is by making a trade, I
don't think it's unrealistic. I think the NFL has shown
the last year so far this year is more open

(20:51):
to trade mid season than they have been in years past.
So it wouldn't shock me if they make a trade.
I wouldn't say it's a bad thing if they make
a trade. I just day have deeper issues than just
a quarterback. Trent Dial for joining us in the Doug
Outlet Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Was Aaron Rodgers
adeline for being as upset as he was about time

(21:11):
Montgomery taking the body of the end zone. Heck, no,
since window every does every quarterback have to be PC
all the time and not show emotion. I remember dam
Or he used to practice against Dan Marino when I
was playing for the Bucks, and he would just get
after coaches and players and practice when they messed up. Uh.
In games. Tom Brady's has had a few fights and

(21:31):
water coolers. John Elway Brett Farr of Emotional Guys. I mean,
you have a lot invested, you want the ball. Aaron
Rodgers knows if he gets that ball, the odds are
in his favor that he only has to go forty
yards to kick in field goal. They're gonna win that game.
That's a signature we win for them. In fact, I
was surprised he wasn't more animating. I'd have no problem
if you went up and asked to time Montgomery. I mean,

(21:53):
that's that's football. That that is accountability. That's how professionals
interact with one another. And I don't know what peace
he police came along years ago. In every quarterback, I
just bite their tongue and not say anything. I think
that's horse kirk Cousins. Some people believe kirk cousins ceiling
is on full display. I watched yesterday and said, wait
a second, now, Digs quits on a crossing route, man,

(22:15):
and man, he sits like it's a zone. Uh, that's
a pick six. Feeling fumbles when they were gonna go
up six or up ten right before the half and
get the ball back out of the half um and
then Treadwell has a bad penalty, also had a big
drop on fourth down. Like I think kirk Cousin has
been pretty good in spite of the fact his offensive
lines banged up and he hasn't had Dalvin Cook most

(22:36):
of the year due to injury. Am I am I
over selling how good kirk Cousins has been. Uh and
and not not understanding what the contract means. I'm a
hunt present with you. I forgot about the Treadwell drop
on four down. Believe right, that was a nice play
by I dv get his hand in there, But you
expect your guy to go up and make that play
on four down. I think kirk Cousin is a very

(22:56):
good player. I think this discussion always comes up, is
he you know where does good differentiates self from great?
And I think if you want to talk about great quarterbacks,
rare air Hall of Fame type talents, guys, ever you're
you suit up and you don't have a chance for
a Super Bowl. No, he's not there. That that's that's
dedicated to three, four or five guys in the NFL

(23:17):
right now. What usually separates those guys and their ability
to play in critical situations? Those guys dominate third down.
Those guys dominate tight reds on. Those guys dominate and
a half in the games. But here's the other thing.
Those guys don't grow on tree. Correct, Correct, they're not. Look,
here's the mistake people make. Okay, here's the mistake people make.
They look at the eighty four million guarantees like, oh,

(23:38):
he's not worth it. What were the other options that
they have? Case Keenum is not as good. Case Keenum
is not as good. Ask anyone in football. He's not
as good, okay as the Broncos who they'd rather have,
the Jets, who they'd rather have, Right, he wouldn't even
they weren't even the highest bidder. So the first thing
is who else was available? Maybe Alex Smith? Who who? Um?

(24:00):
Everyone outside of Smith? He's like a brother. He's not
as good as Kirk Cousins in terms of your ceiling
for your offense, how much you can expand your offense.
Kirk Cousin expands your offense more than most other guys. Now,
is he rare air? No, he's not. I love that
money treat commercial years ago where the money tree. You

(24:22):
know that, I forget what commercial was. But people think
that there's like a Hall of Fame quarterback tree, and
they're just isn't. So you have to get the most
at what you of what you have, and I think
Kirk Cousins gives you, outside of that rare air quarterback space,
the most you're going to get out of this position.
Now you have to do everything else as a football
team trying to win games. You can't play bad defense

(24:45):
and unfortunately have lost their runner. They've lost too offensive linemen.
Last night they're star wide receivers um cost them ten points. So, uh,
it's Kirk Cousins can't put on the Superman cape and
win that game down ten And because he couldn't doesn't
mean he's not a very very good player. All right?
A couple of quick ones? Um am I wrong? Or

(25:07):
is Andrew Luck quietly announcing to the league that he's
back at the level that people expected him to be at? Yeah?
The two, the two quarterbacks have not been talked about
enough this year. Andrew Luck, look what Look how good
he is when he's given a run game and offensive
line that doesn't get him killed every weekend. And then
to Shaun Watson, that'd be my next I was I
was getting to the just can you can you just

(25:28):
go with Luck first? Because I had I had a
Texans question. I got Lamar Miller about to join us shortly.
Can you just I got this were our great minds
are thinking of, like go with Andrew Luck. Keep going
all right, Andrew Luck. You can see how again how
much you can expand your offensive game, how much horsepower

(25:49):
you can have, when you can actually have balance, when
you can protect him. I mean, he is one of
the great down field passers in this league, but unfortunately
was doing with a guy in his chest up until
this season. So you just have a lot of opportunities
to be explosive with Andrew Luck as your quarterback. Now
that you could run the ball with Mac and the
other was a Hines was the other running back yesterday.

(26:12):
With an offensive lineman's physical it can play downhill would
also pass pert tech. I'm excited to see the Colts offensively.
It wouldn't surprise me at the end of this season
if they're not a top five offense in this league. Yeah,
any one more wide receiver feels like or at least
a slot wide receiver. Uh. To go along with with
t Y Hilton stug Out the show Fox Sports radio.
Last one you mentioned the Texans and Deshaun Watson. One

(26:33):
of the big changes. I mean, first Indie kind of
gifted them a win instead of just going for the tie.
But one of the big changes now they can run
the football. Um, how is it like? Is it Watson?
Is it Miller? Is that the line? Because the last
two games Lamar Miller combined two d and thirty three
yards and only doing it on forty carries. Um, how
has this Texans much maligned offensive line been able to

(26:56):
run open these holes for him? So the answers, Yeah,
since everything you said, it's the runners, it's offensive line?
Is is Shaun Watson handling the run game of the
line of scrimmage? I DM Mike getting the offensive line
to direct a certain way, handling blocking schemes. But I
think for them it's a bigger story. It's gonna be
a little esoteric, but I think you'll know where I'm

(27:16):
coming from. To me, it's it's this team's soul. To me,
as this team was owing through at the quarterback with
a broken rib, and in most scenarios, that quarterback and
the organizations can say, why don't you take a few
weeks and get healthy? We probably pissed away the season
and oh and three will survive the second half. Instead,
this quarterback stood up and said, there's no way I'm

(27:37):
not playing and we're gonna be fine. And they were
from oh and three to five and three. And that
is really hard to do it. And it's more than
just offensive line play. It's more than big stops that defensively,
it's more than good coaching that speaks to the soul
of this team. And that's why I'm excited about this
player and this team. That's into Shawn Watson's history too.
Go back and read his story, go back and see

(27:58):
what he's done in life, not seen the NFL control
him as bigger than what he's been through and conquered
in life. And I think you're starting to see his
presence who he is take control of our football team
as much as his talent. I can't believe the floor
Fresno stata Um used esoteric correctly and maybe look it up,
but that was amazing, great stuff. T D followhim on

esoteric meant? No? No, I didn't. Um Romo's you know
what esoteric? Pan? No? Not really it Actually the definition
of esoteric is what he said. But uh, music do

(28:41):
you have it? You know you're dope? Okay? Esoteric intended
for or likely to be understood by only a small
number of people with a specialized knowledge or interest. There
it is. Yes, even the definition of esoteric is in
fact esoteric what you got. The Browns did let go
of head coach You Jackson today and so good bottle.
Offensive coordinator Tom Haley. Defensive coordinator Greg Williams will now

(29:03):
serve as the team's interim head coach. Not the only
change of the National Football League, because the Buccaneers are
changing quarterbacks. They've bench Jamis Winston in favor of Ryan
Fitzpatrick for their Week nine game against Carolina. Winston was
benched after throwing four picks and yesterday's lost to the Bengals.
Cowboys today fired offensive line coach Paul Alexander. It was

(30:11):
Doug back to you, Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Um, look,
it's really important to remember. I read Mike Freeman's article
from Bleacher Report which he said that Kirk Cousins has
been met he's second league in passing. He's having a

(30:32):
very very good year. They're a field goal kicker away
from being in first place all alone in their division.
And if you watched last night, Adam Thealan, who's an
incredible story, had a terrible fumble deep deep in Saints territory.
He hasn't had Dalvin Cook much the year, play without

(30:54):
two starting offensive lineman. Stefon Diggs quit on a route
and that ends up being a pick six. Like, here's
what people forget though, this is really really important. I
mentioned that with Trent Ilford. You're like, well, I don't
like how much money Kirk Cousins makes. This is the
problem with that parade magazine. Parade magazine, which if you

(31:18):
used to get a newspaper you get in the Sunday
paper once a year, they would have the what people make.
Once you find out what somebody makes, you have a
completely different evaluation of of of them as people and
of their job. I could do that, I would do
I would do that. I could do that for that
much money. Well, it's crazy how much they make. Remember

(31:39):
Kirk Cousins bet on himself two years in a row
in d C. He took the franchise tag two years
in a row in which he made over twenty million
dollars both years, and then he was the best free
agent on the market with limited other quarterbacks on the market.
And so you're sitting there with the Vikings having played
in the NFC Championship game. They're like, well, we don't

(32:02):
have a high first round pick, so none of the
quarterbacks are gonna be around. And this is not a
job for a rookie quarterback anyway. And our choices are
case Keenum trading for Alex Smith, or going all in
on Kirk Cousins or a J. McCarron. These are your

(32:23):
Tyrod Taylor, these are your legit options. So in comparison
to Aaron Rodgers, would I take Kirk Cousins. No, But
you know who wasn't available as a free agent this summer,
Aaron Rodgers in comparison to Drew Brees, and look, Drew
Brees wasn't great much of much of the late night
last night. But I would take Drew Brees. I would
take Tom Brady, damn right. I would you know who

(32:45):
is not available last year as a free agent. That
would be Drew Brees and Tom Brady they're not available,
so you're you're paid with the market will bear. And
the truth is they didn't have to. They weren't even
the top bidder the Jets were. They were just in
the ballpark of what he wanted. He wanted three years guaranteed,
they got that. I actually think he's achieved an appropriate

(33:08):
level of success for his contract and for the fact
he was the number one free agent. He's the best
of those quarterbacks, and simply looking at record and and drawing, well,
they get the same record now as they had last year,
and they had Case cutom and they could have kept Case,
Case can have kept play. He's a backup who can
be a starter. Sometimes he's he's a he's a fuzzier

(33:28):
version of Ryan Fitzpatrick. He's gonna get a coach fired
in Denver. So you could say all of these things
or whatever, but they're not the same. They're much better offensively.
He's a better quarterback. And if you want to hold
against him the money that he's making, you have to

(33:51):
have the context of he's a free agent. Starting quarterbacks.
Pro Bowl level, top fifteen quarterbacks never become available on
free agency ever, even next year. I mean, maybe Derek
carrs on the market, but he hasn't had the career
to this point of a of a Kirk Cousins, you

(34:13):
know who. Even if he was this coming year and
you had Blake Bortles and Jamis Winston and Derek Carr
and Kirk Cousins, it's still probably have Cousins first. So
who would you pick and why did you pick them?
Context does matter? Coming up next Hisman Trophy winner number

Do you I see those uh incredible throwback uniforms Oklahoma
State War, big upset three point win over Texas and
then a little kerfuffle between Mike Gundy and Tom Herman
at the end of the game. Well, You'd be hard
pressed to find college coach that like Tom Herman. But
I do think Texas is close close to being back,
although Oaklholm State keeps beating him. That's a crazy day

(35:23):
in college football on Saturday, topped by craziness in college
football and unbelievable baseball over the weekend. Let's get to
a game. This is game time side on the Doug
Got Leaves, which is brought to you by Discover Card.
We treat you like you treat you, Dan Byer. What's
the game? The game, Doug is big deal, little deal,

(35:46):
no deal? Okay, big deal, little deal or no deal.
That the Buccaneers of bench quarterback Jamis Winston in favor
of Ryan Fitzpatrick for Week nine against Carolina. M m M.
That's a very very big deal. Um. Look, Jamis Winston
has only been back three games and he's been a
turnover machine. But he actually played pretty well the first

(36:06):
two weeks. Didn't play well yesterday for interceptions, and Ryan
Fitzpatrick came in and uh and and energize that team.
But it it more speaks of the future of Jamis Winson.
They did pick up his fifth year option, but if
they don't play him. That means they're done with him
because they don't want him to get hurt. So we'll
see if he's active this Sunday. That feels like a

(36:27):
really really big deal. And now de Sean Jackson is
happy again because Ryan Fitzpatrick is back at quarterback up.
De Sean Jackson had requested a trade. That may be
off the table now, but we'll still talk with talk
about trades. Big deal, a little deal, or no deal.
That Bronco's wide receiver to Marius Thomas is there's a
fifty chance he has traded before tomorrow's trade deadline. I

(36:47):
think that's a little deal. It's pretty obvious he makes
a lot of money, he's not crazy productive, and they're
not a playoff team. Feels like a little deal, big deal,
a little dealer no deal. That the Cowboys fired offensive
line coach Paul Alexander today, be with it being Jason
Garrett's first in season coaching change during his tenure as
head coach, that's a big deal. Um. And the offensive

(37:07):
line is supposedly the strength of the Dallas Cowboys and
hasn't performed like it should be pointed out that it
stinks when you don't have Travis Frederick is your center
to call the signals and to be the the leader
of that offensive line. So, um, it feels like a
really big that that's Jason Garrett feeling the pressure of
having to win and having to change things. Now, Remember

(37:28):
they made a bunch of host sale staff changed in
the offseason. To make one this soon in the season,
and the first one in season he's ever made. That
speaks to the pressure on Dallas to win and win now.
Some college coaches talking today, Lincoln Riley saying that he
hasn't had that it's for the NFL when asked if
he would make the next level, or that he did
say four now, yes, for now? Or Urban Meyer talking

(37:48):
today a big deal, little dealer, no deal that the
Ohio state head coach City plans on coaching in twenty
nineteen despite rumors that he may step down after this season. Well, first,
it is a big deal because there have been a
lot of rumors about it. The other part to it, though,
is kind of like Lincoln Riley saying for now, I
don't have the itch, and he was it felt like
a totally honest answer. Um, I actually think this is

(38:12):
an honest answer for RB Meyer like, Hey, right now,
I plan on coach. What what do you say? What
was the exact wording. Um, I didn't have the quote.
I just said the general. Um, I don't have it
on me. Yeah, he said something I plan on coaching
with something like that. Right. That's again a way of
being ambiguous if you really want to get down to it,
big deal, little deal, or no deal. That the Dodgers

(38:34):
still intend to give manager Dave Roberts a long term
contract extension despite criticism during the World Series, again feels
like a big deal. Feels like it tells you that
that his moves we're supported by the front office. Now,
this is good and it's bad because I don't I'd
have to think that Dave Roberts wants to operate a

(38:55):
little bit more in his gut, and I don't put
it all on him. At some point, pitchers have to
execute pitches, you know, guys have to play better. They
gotta get you know, they have to get the timely
hits that the Dodgers were able to get. But I
think this tells you that that the way he managed
was approved by how nine thousand whatever computer generated ideas
they have. That's why he got the job. That's why

(39:15):
he keeps his job, even if it's what caused him
to now win the series. Big Deal, A little Deal
or no Deal that the agent for all fielder Bryce
Harper says they already know where the free agent will
land this soft season is. Scott Boris told the Yes
Network they know who the team is because the deal
is quote completed and done. Well, if it's completed and done,
then it has to be the Nationals, otherwise it's tampering.

(39:38):
Good point. It feels like a big deal. Bravada listed
odds as the Phillies being the leader in getting Harper services.
The odds on it one to one. They were also
the leader for many machado according to Bravado three to two.
You can have machado. Yeah, I think. By the way
that urban Meyer quote asked if he I would like

(40:00):
to respond that he was going to leave, He said, quote,
I plan on coaching, and then asked to follow up
if he was definitely coming back in Urban said quote yes,
end quote. Finally, big deal, little deal or no deal,
Doug that Kawhi Leonard is sitting out tonight's game against
the Bucks to rest, even though it wasn't in the
team's plan to rest him in back to back situations.

(40:21):
Raptors also played tomorrow against Philadelphia. Um, I think it's
a little deal. I mean, they're clearly trying to keep
Kawhi Leonard comfortable and happy. But if you want to
be a top five guy in the league, this is
when you earn your stripes, isn't it? Absolutely battle of
the last two unbeatens in the NBA Bucks and Raptors tonight,

(40:44):
no Kauai, no Janice for that matchup is game time
on the duck got leave show? All right, So Lamar
Miller got pushed back an hour. I can't get so
five fifteen Eastern, it's two fift Pacific. We'll have Lamar
Miller from the Resurge in first place, Houston Texans, will Jonas.

(41:06):
We also have Michael Lombardi next hour as well. That
at that hour as well. Right, third hour of the show.
All right, cool, we got a jam packed. So do
we have anybody? Next hour? Nick Swisher will join us. Cool.
We'll talk some world series with Nick Swisher. Um coming
up next. I think what I want to get to
I want to get to an APPM with Tyler so Um.

(41:27):
Among the things that Browns are covering up or even
the NFL is covering up, and even the World Series
covering up Florida State. Wow, that was bad. I mean
it was. It was worse than the score. It was
worse than that, but also covering up what's going on
in the NBA with a guy who won an NBA championship?

will ask him about the Red Sox winning and the
Dodgers failing. What do you do with Kershaw? This is
a really hard one. This is really I'm gonna ask Kershaw.
I'm gonna misses Kershaw about it. Book has Clayton Kershaw
would just sendy cats? Would you wold you whip that
up for us? Please? Um Ramos, I'm gonna ask you, Buyer,
I'll ask you. This is a really hard one. So

(42:33):
he's owed uh sixty million in change right for a
couple more years NFL, right, right, Yes, six six sixty
million or so in change, and he can opt out.
And I understand that he's probably not. He's not what
he used to be. His fastball is no longer mid nineties,
at his lower nineties. And generally unless you go get

(42:56):
a shot or a series of shots like Roger Clemens
and miraculous comeback Roger Clemens, you don't get you don't
get that fastball back. Now, you could could be the
back issue. We've seen Max Scherzer, who's still throwing heat,
and he's a couple of years older. But the fact

(43:17):
is that Kershaw, who has been the most dominant regular
season picture of the last decade, is not the picture
he used to be. And yet, uh, he has three
days to decide whether or not he's going to opt
out of his contract. He signed a seven year, two
hundred and fifteen million dollar deal. I believe it was

(43:38):
four years ago. Right. So the way it works is
they're gonna meet with him, are they gonna tell him
we love you and we want to keep you, but
we don't want you to opt out of that contract.
And he's gonna say, I want to opt out of
this contract or I want a longer term deal, and
it's not like to stay. He's gonna want less money.

(44:02):
So what do you do? Rama's what would you do?
You're the Dodgers, I think, Um, I think you might
want to tell him that he's not your number one
picture anymore. Maybe that might be something you say to him.
And I think Walker Breweller has pretty much to me
solidified that as him being the number one I don't
think there's any question about that that Walker be would
be the number one picture. The question becomes will he

(44:24):
take number two picture money? Well, yeah, that's really what
it kind of comes down to, right, Like you can
go make more money for the Rangers, but you also
don't have to move, and you can be a Dodger
for life. I don't think he opts out. I think
he because I don't think he's trying to get a
longer contract, trying to get something else. Step Okay, yeah,

(44:46):
I don't know if he'll get thirty million a year, right,
but if you get twenty or twenty five million a
year for four years now, it's a hundred million to
sixty million. And the crazy thing about it is, and
I do it's it's interesting. Um, for some reason, We're
not supposed to criticize Clayton Kershaw because he's a good guy. Right,

(45:08):
he's a good guy, and he got lit up again
last night, and I get that they called upon him
so many times, But he pitched twice in the World
Series and he wasn't good in either. He wasn't So
he's either the only guy who gets a pass or
not pitching at his optimum level at the most important time.

(45:28):
In comparison to like when quarterbacks played poorly and they're
great regular season quarterbacks and Peyton Manning would play poorly
in the playoffs. We would talk about it. When it
happens in basketball, we talked about it. Why can't we
talk about in baseball. I don't understand that he hasn't
been horrendous, but he's not nearly as good in the
in the postseason. He's the regular season. He's a thirty

(45:49):
four and thirty five million over the last two years
of his contract. That's seventy million dollars. Oh yeah, I
don't know if he opposite that's a it's a when
look at seventy as opposed to a hundred. If I'm Kershaw,
what do I do? I mean? There's zero chance you

(46:11):
can spend two million dollars, like if you have any
like you defer any of these payments. Just this idea
of monopoly money, the idea that you have to go
back and ask for more money or get extended at
the same rate. If I'm the Dodgers, I sit there

(46:32):
and go like, hey, dude, listen, here's what we canna do.
You're gonna opt out and we're gonna pay you twenty
million average for five years to be a hundred million
seventy And I even think the Dodgers that's overly generous.
You can honestly say, look, we'd rather be preferre to
pay you for you know, four for twenty that's eighty

(46:54):
that's slightly more than you're making. But it's more appropriate
with how you're pitching. And I gotta tell you that
if if he opts out to get more money, I don't.
It doesn't make you the worst person on earth on Earth,
but it does make you It does make you understand
that it is solely about the bottom line. Like that

(47:18):
doesn't make any sense to me at all. This idea
that every decision we have to make is based upon
the bottom line is a bad way to look at
business bad way. So you can tell me Clayton Kershaw
is the greatest human being on earth, that he walks
on waters, that it cures herpies, that he's he's an

(47:39):
extension of Jesus Christ himself. But dude, you're set to
make seventy million of your last two years. You're gonna
leave for more money? Just shows your selfish, it's money
you can't spend. Oh well, you know in Texas stated
income tax LA, they did income Who cares how much

(47:59):
tax you're paying when you're making thirty five million dollars guaranteed? Well,
in California you're only bringing home eighteen million dollars. Oh
my gosh, let me just cry tears and wipe them
off a thousand dollar bills. Don't tell me he's the
greatest guy ever. And he keeps We keep throwing them

(48:20):
out there, he keeps getting lit up, and they're like, well,
I understand it's a business decision he's made. Like, at
some point you've made enough money? Am I? Am I crazy? Here?
Am I romantic imagery of things? Here? Music? You're a millennial,
You have no attention span, You're all about the money.
You'll move for any job, any place, as long as

(48:41):
it pays you more money. Tell me I'm wrong. I
don't think you're necessarily wrong about all of you know,
going for the money. I just I am firmly in
belief that he is not opting out. I am fairly
certain that he will just opt right back in and
keep rolling with what they've got. I just don't see

(49:02):
for him why he would want to play for any
other team other than the Dodgers and money. But I
don't Texas. The thought is the Rangers give him an
few deal, like, hey, dude, we'll fix you. We'll fix
your back. He come in, You're only thirty years old.
He's only thirty years old. You should have five or
six years left. Picture, left handed picture. I just don't

(49:25):
see it happening. I just see him opting right back in,
staying where he's at, trusting that the team can continue
to contend year in and year out. I mean a
lot of their impact players. Granted, the lineup changes were
questionable and how they were all arranged, but a lot
of their impact players are all young. It's not like

(49:47):
you know when the Cubs want it, and all of
their rotation were aged out. Yeah. I mean they have
Walker Bueller, who else what. They're gonna have to get
more pitching, right, They're gonna have to get more pitching
between Bellinger when Seeger comes back healthy. You know they
have young stars on their team. Yeah, yeah, Um he

(50:11):
makes the most money. Kenley makes nineteen million. By the way,
I'm not a I'm I'm a I'm done with Kenny
Jansen sort of guy. Two years in a row. He
wasn't the same this year. Sorry, he has the hard problem.
He wasn't good last year in the World Series. Like
ninety million dollars for a guy who's just okay, he's
been great, He's not what he used to be. Justin Turner,

(50:34):
rich Hill, like Rich Hills one of their key stars.
He's thirty nine. So they need some pitching in a
major way, major major way. They don't have a manute
much under contract for the for the coming season except
for some of those young players. Matt Kemp under contract.

(50:58):
Interesting stuff. Dree three million dollars in salary this year.
I want to say this about the Calves. They fired
tylu six games into the year. Tyron lou goes from
three times coaching three NBA finals, one NBA Championship two,
fired six games into the year in which his team
is non competitive. Now, my guess is that Tyler didn't

(51:21):
take kindly to the idea of tanking games. I could
be wrong, but I think this is the best thing
to ever happen to Tyron Lou's career. Happened to David
Fizdale last year. Your team starts to tank and you
get out, and what happens. Do I think Tyrone lose

(51:41):
a great coach? No? And I think it's a good coach. Yeah,
it's good. Hey, one Championships coach, NBA Finals, Like, he's
done a good job. But what happens is because he's
fired prematurely. Right, they didn't fire him thirty games in
the year, We're like, ah, you know, he's not getting
up out of his players six games in the year.
Now of a sudden, you have players Michael Lebron and
current players setting out notes on on social media about

(52:04):
how much they love Tyler. He gets paid, he goes
on TV, he doesn't have to work, and he doesn't
have to absorb all the losses. The Calves are awful.
Calves are gonna lose minimum fifty five games, minimum fifty
probably fifty five games, so you you don't take those

(52:26):
fifty five losses on your resume. Just like Fitsdale last
year got fired and the Grizzlies started a tank. He
absorbed those losses. He ends up getting the next job,
and Tyler, depending on how his contract is structured, well
likely do the same. I'm supposed to feel really bad

(52:47):
for Tyler, but I don't because I know the way
the business works, and I know that in the NBA
you have to have the respect of the locker room
in order to win a championship, and you have to
won a championship to have the respect to the locker
room catch Jointing two. It's a vicious cycle, right, It's like,
was that fat bastard said eat because I'm unhappy? And
I'm unhappy because it Right, that's out of the n

(53:09):
b A. In order to win a championship, you have
to have the respect to the locker room. You don't
have the respect to the locker room. You have to
want a championship, same thing he has that He'll be fine.
We'll last World Series Champion Nick Swisher what the Dodgers
should have done and what they should do with Clayton

(53:29):
Kershaw and uh, are we gonna use the D word
to describe the Red Sox. No, not that D word.
Dynasty is the D word. You can use that D
word to describe two words to describe their fans. Not this.
I actually like this current curve of Red Sox. That's next.

(55:15):
Doug Otlive Show, Fox Sports Radio. Can we play that audio?
We can't. Why can we not play that audio? Okay,
we can, I just don't think we should. Why to
what relevance? It's funny, It's funny. Everybody has a name

(55:36):
that they can't pronounce. My wife gets onto me because
I struggle i' struggled in my life to use the
to pronounce the word trough. Trough. You know what trough is?
Like a feeding trough? Yes, yes, because I tell my
children they eat like pigs. Like, why don't we just
certain trough? But I have a tendency to use an L.
Put an L in there. She's like, it's not a trough.

(55:57):
I was like, well, it kind of sounds like that.
It's like, no, there's no L trough feeding trough. Of course,
we all, as men know, we go to the bathroom
in a stadium a lot of times. Billy Madison famously
had rosutto or he couldn't write the cursive Z. That's
a cursive Z is very very difficult. Apparently Mike Frances
had a little bit of trouble with Matt Nscursion's name.

(56:19):
What part of the issue was, For like the first
half of it, no one was correcting him. I don't
think he actually knew what his name was. That's why
he had such an issue, because then at the very
end someone clearly told him in his ear it's a
vast scursion, and then he gets it right, but it
it is. Uh So I don't know how much he
really had a problem pronouncing his name as much as

(56:41):
he just didn't actually know what his name was. How
do you not know mas Matt mass Cursion's name. Everyone
in the studio who works on the show didn't know.
There's like one guy, maybe two, there's not we have
all like when when someone, if I was saying to you,
is don't get him my earl okay, don't get in
my ear less, you know, right, But if if I
was like, hey, who's that Matt ve serving, I would

(57:02):
be like, oh that Scursion? Yes, So clearly they don't.
They didn't look I get it. I mean, this is like,
here's kind of a bigger topic. It's like when Megan
Kelly got bounced from NBC and this you got bounced
NBC because her show is not rating, nobody likes her,
and then she tries to defend black face because she
really didn't know what black face is. The idea wasn't

(57:24):
just that she didn't know what black face was, but
nobody on her staff apparently understood what black face because honestly,
what she described wasn't black face. I mean, just this
is really really simple. Okay, black face is not getting
dressed up as a black athlete. It is a specific
Google it, look it up, don't dress your kids as it,

(57:44):
and don't reference it as ever. Okay, it's highly offensive.
It just is. But the idea that no one on
her staff was like, wait, stop, don't say it's a
it's okay, just shows as a and other dopes that
don't that need to crack your history book and understand

(58:04):
why what black faces and why it is so offensive.
And look, there are some people that are offended by
it but don't actually still don't know what it is either.
It's not just the people that are saying things that
are offensive, it's people that offender, like, well, you can't
get dressed up as Michael Jackson. That's getting dressed up
in Michael Jackson's not black face. If you make fun
of of certain characteristics stereotype characteristics of black people, that's

(58:27):
black face. That's different, very important distinction. But again you're
not wrong. But I mean, like I kind of feel
like mad Vis scursion is a big he's and we're
in the industry. We're in the industry. It's like boog
shamby very close friend of mine, John Schambi. Everybody calls
him Book. He filled in for Dan Shulman last night

(58:50):
on the National Call of the World Series Shulman apparently
at laryngitis. You know, Book fills in. I feel like
even though civilians don't know who Boog shop might not
know boog Shambi, baseball people do, and broadcasters generally do.
I wrong my overselling his relevance. Like music, do you

(59:12):
know who boog Shamby is? I barely knew who he was,
and then when we've started working together, I've become much
more familiar with what he was. But like five years ago,
if you had been like, hey boog Shambi had been
like who's that? Okay Ramos, I hate to say this
on a national already to show what I Yeah, the
name didn't ring about because you only but you you
also listen to Dodgers local, right, That's true. I've really

(59:34):
rarely listened to national very understand, especially when we've been
best blessed by Vince Scully. And look, Charlie Steinard is
a good job, I mean really good job as well. Um,
I don't know, like Dan Buyer, you know, do you
know if say boo, Okay, you know Matt. Should't we
know who Matt VII scursion is? Yeah, I do. I
definitely know who Matt because I one time I'll be network. Yes,

(59:57):
that that's probably the thing that it's. This is not
college foot I would understand if it was college football.
Mike Francesca is that Francesca is a legend, Okay, And
it was college football in the Northeast that they never
talked about, you know, somebody called in and asked him
about Dino Baber's or something like, Look, I happen not
because I love college football and I've watched Syracuse in

(01:00:18):
this and what he's been able to do is amazing.
I would give him a pass for that one, more
so than discursion, because he's he's in a baseball town.
He's a baseball ficionado, and that's a pretty well known
broadcaster in baseball. Buy or I'm not being too harshly.
And and look, maybe it's also sometimes everyone has Do
you have a word or a name that you mispronounced constantly?

(01:00:39):
You can't get it out of your own way? A
lot of them, even just names like Jerry Rice is
very difficult because of the r same thing with Arnold Palmer.
Those are I have to say it very slowly to
say it correctly. Really, yeah, really, because Jerry Rice sometimes
comes out Joey Weiss like just like did you have?
Did you have? That's not a list, but what does

(01:00:59):
that speech impediment? Is that a speech impediment? I think
it's just because there's so many ours. No, there's lots
of kids who talk like thet kids who you know,
my my thunders who talk like that. Now they can't
put out there. I remember it's distinctly my my daughter Harper,
and my other daughter's name is Grace. And she was
I don't like, I'm gonna say six, and she's like,

(01:01:21):
Dad asked me her name and I was like, what's
her name? She's like, Grace or ours came in? So
maybe you ours never came in. Anyway, I'm not doing
it to make fun of Frances. Frances and I had
a beef. We patch it up, but it was it's
high comedy to listen to him completely butcher that name
over and over again. It's like Billy Madison trying to

(01:01:42):
write rasutto. Nick Swisher would never butcher Matt vi scursions name.
That's because he's a champ, he makes coffee, a little
bit nervous, he's got some energy even after the If
there's one guy who stayed up for all eighteen innings
and broke down every pitch, it was Nick Swisher. Switch
did did the Dodgers lose this? One of the Red

(01:02:04):
Sox win the series? But I think if if you're
looking at the whole grand scheme of things, I think
some people could say both ways. I feel like you
could look at the moves that Dave Roberts and the
organization made not working out, or at the end of
the day, you can look and just say the Boston
Red Sox were just a better squad. I mean, think
about it, man, They slayed the hundred Yankees. They just
ran through the defending champs Astros, right, and then you

(01:02:26):
just crushed the two time n L defending champs. If
that's not the best team in the game, and I'm
not quite sure what is, because what those guys did
not only offensively and defensively. But for me, the biggest
thing that stands out is your stars weren't the guys
that won the World Series for you. It was your
role players, your bench guys. You're Steve Pierces, you're Jackie

(01:02:49):
Bradley Jrs. Your you know question mark with David Price,
you didn't know how he was going to pitch in
the postseason. So for all of that help to come
on top of having J. D. Martinez and Mookie Betts
in your line. There's a reason why the Red Sox
won games in the in the regular season, and there's
a reason why they won the World Series. Oh I listen.
I'm not disputing that they're the better team, but there
were several winnable games. Um that you know what? What

(01:03:12):
what keeps you up at night? What makes you anybody
who's played high level sports and makes Nick Swishers won
a World Series joining us in the Doug Gotli Show
Fox MLB analysts, anybody's ever played high level sports, it's
the it's the ones that you lost, you felt like
you let get away, right, And they have several. They
have several in Boston and at home, maybe even takeaway

(01:03:34):
last night because the bullpen was fried and Kershaw just
does not have nearly the stuff he used to have.
But letting those get get away how much at the
time when it took place before, whether it's Madson or
some of the other airs. How much were you critical
in the moment of Dave roberts moves? You know what, man,

(01:03:55):
I'm not really a monster critical, you know, you know,
move Scott. I feel like we can always play Monday
Morning quarterback. I think you've gotta look at the numbers.
Uh student wis with a guy like Dave Roberts, He's
so used to impacting the game. He's so used to
affecting the game by making changes, you know, whether that's
putting a new picture in or whether that's bringing up
a you know, a pinch hitter. I think he got

(01:04:16):
caught up so much and that's sort of a game
just like he was in the NLCS with the Milwaukee
Brewers and then he comes over and playing the Boston
Red Sox where he didn't need to make as many
of those moves, and that sometimes you just gotta let
the boys play. Sometimes in the American League you just
let things roll out. It's not as effected as it
is in the nationally because you have to make more moves,

(01:04:37):
the double switches, the picture hits the whole night. In
the American League game, it's completely different. Now, with all
that being said, if you think about it. The Los
Angeles Dodgers were a couple hits, a couple of big
hits away from turning that series around. At the end
of the day, Hey, Boston pitching was way too good.
How about David Price? What did he do differently? Here's
a guy who earned the criticism that he had been getting,

(01:05:01):
and he goes out and pitches an absolute gem. What
do you what do you a couple of two gems?
What what do you do? Yeah? Well, I mean think
about it, and you know, dig bro, I mean, you
know he started off man oh and nine in his
first eleven postseason starts, David Price oh and nine. You
don't hear that very often. So I think the transformation
and the transition happened Game four against the Houston Astros

(01:05:22):
when he was in the bullpen warming up, telling you man,
he said, something happened. And since then, whether it was
a little bit of his delivery, whether it was his
arm angle, whatever, it was, all of a sudden, the
philosophy started to go up, the command started to go up,
the use of his change up started to go up.
And when you have a devastating changeup like David Price has,

(01:05:42):
because I know I was in that batters box. When
you see that eighty three eighty six mile hour changeup coming,
that makes that fastball so much harder. And if you
look at his last start, five punch outs all on
the fastball. So to be able to see him do
what he did, man, was awesome, and it's nice to
see him put all that postseason struggled to it, no
question about it. What do you do? How does the
Kershaw conversation really take place? He got three days he

(01:06:05):
can opt out. How do you what's the real conversation
that's had? Well? I I think if you're Clayton Kersham
and you you gotta go to where you're gonna be happy.
I mean, you've got two years left and sixty five
million dollars only smoked. That's a whole lot of cheese.
Either way, if you're Clayton Kershaw, you've gotta figure out
what you want because if he opts out, why is
he opting out? And he's to opt out for more

(01:06:27):
years or more money, and I don't think he needs
to do that. If if I'm Clayton Kershaw, I'll staying
right there with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Man, I am
the face of the franchise. You know what reminds me
that It reminds me when Michael Jordan's went to the
Wizard and it just didn't look right. I think if
Clayton Kershaw put on another uniform, it just wouldn't be that.
When I think Clayton Kershaw, I think the guys like
Cal Ripken, Derek Jeter, guys that spent their entire careers

(01:06:50):
with one team, and this guy has that opportunity to
do that. I would hope that he would weigh his
options big time because obviously, when you're in a position
and like Los Angeles, there's a lot of heat, there's
a lot of pressure. But at the end of the day, man,
you gotta be there because you're gonna go somewhere else
and you're gonna look back and you're gonna say, man,
I really wish I was back with the Dodgers. So

(01:07:11):
I think for him, he's got a lot of thinking
to do. He's got great representation. I'm sure he has
great people leading him in the right direction. But it's
all gonna be interesting to see what happens here in
the next you know, seventy two hours. Is somebody really
gonna give him like I guess somebody really gonna give
him more money and more years. Now he guess more years,
but not more money. Right, So even if it's you know,

(01:07:32):
he's got two years left at you know, upwoards of
you know, thirty three million dollars um. So it feels
crazy to think that you would leave that much money
over two years when you'll be a free agent and
still be able to get another contract you want to
keep pitching, as opposed to what a hundred million maybe
over four or five to go to a place like
Texas where you're not gonna win. It's not a picture's ballpark.

(01:07:55):
And yeah, you make a little bit more money for
more guaranteed and more on taxes, but as that really
what it's about. I mean, how much money can you
possibly spend it? I think that's what it boils down to.
How much money do you really need? I mean, do
you want to compete for championships or do you want
to make some money? And for me, Mann, I would
always want to compete for championships. Are you kidding me?
Come on? I mean to have the opportunity to go

(01:08:15):
to the World Series back to back years. That doesn't
happen very often. A matter of fact, not at all,
but to see the success that he's had during the
regular season has been phenomenal, and the Los Angeles Dodgers
aren't anywhere close to being able to fight for that
World Series championship if he's not true. Number one. Bryce
Harper's agent is Scott Boris. He told the Yes Network,

(01:08:37):
I gotta deal in place. I don't want to spoil it.
Let him tell you. Um it would be He's written,
technically he's not allowed to negotiate a deal yet with
anybody else. Is it the Gnats or are you here
in somebody else? Hey, it was at the interview with
Michael Kay. Yeah, come on, Scott Boris, you know you're
don't have no deal done right now. No way. Bryce

(01:08:58):
Harper knows exactly where he's going yet, unless it's an
unbelievable contract offered by the Washington Nationals to bring him back.
That would be my first thought if he said there's
a deal on tables from the Nationals. In my opinion,
because by the way, Scott bores he ain't signed a
no deal right now. He never signed an early deal
ever for any of his guys. And if you're Bryce Harper,

(01:09:18):
you want that attention, you want the buzz, right, and
so I feel like with the off season gonna go
the way it usually does, we'll see him sign after Christmas,
maybe January February, when all this stuff comes out, because
you gotta I mean, Scott bores man. He doesn't do that.
That's not his style. Man. He wants the headlines, he
wants the money, he wants all that. He wants just

(01:09:38):
as much. I guess you could say love as Bryce
Harper again, man, score boars. He ain't scared to let
you know what he's thinking, man, And he ain't scared
to throw out some hooks and some stories that may
not be true. Last thing, it appears that Dodgers still
gonna bring Dave Roberts back. I guess here's my fear. Right.
So you go, you go mostly based upon analytics and

(01:10:01):
your decisions this year, and you either stick with that
and that's like who you're going to be, or correct
or you like overcorrect and now you only go by gut.
Like it. It feels like they're a really hard spot
in the future in the playoffs, aren't they. Well. I
think it was tough this year man, because you went
up against Boston, and I think the analytics of everything
just didn't pan out. I think the thing about it,

(01:10:23):
it's like you said, I mean, if that's the type
of team you are, and that's how you play all
season long, that's how you run your rosters, that's how
you do all that stuff, and then all of a
sudden you get to the World Series and you struggle.
It's hard to change the way you do things. Man.
People are creatures of habit. Organizations have a standard of
which they do things right. So a lot of heats
been put on Dave Roberts because of the decisions he makes.

(01:10:45):
But in my mind, I think that's an organizational thing.
Running out at all right handed lineup, that's an organizational thing,
and that's a billion, billion dollar decision that you're doing.
So I know Dave Roberts is catching a lot of heat,
and rightfully so, because he is the manager. But dude,
don't lose that guy. He's one of the best in
the game. And even though he didn't get the job
done two years in a row, it still doesn't mean

(01:11:07):
he can't get it done in the future. They've got
an unbelievable team. He's an unbelievable man, he's a great
communicator and he knows the game of baseball. Because think
about it, if you get rid of Dave Roberts, now,
who are you gonna bring over there? It's a great question. Um,
last thing, Manny Machado, I don't know. I mean, look,

(01:11:28):
you go back to you go back to what was
the game for what Devor has made an incredible throw.
But he's blowing but he but he's blowing up bubble
running down the first base Like I just, um, he
had the one that went off the wall which he
got into a single because he thought it was he
was a home run, Like I just I feel like

(01:11:49):
this was and Mannie Machado hit the ball well right,
and I feel like he really hurt his value. I'm
just a he's not my just like Hustling isn't always
his his cup of tea. He's not. He's not Johnny Hustle.
That's what he said. So I think with Manny Machado, Man,

(01:12:09):
here's the deal. Do I think he's gonna be the
shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers next year? No, I
don't do. I think he's gonna find himself back in
the American League game. I do. And here's another thing
that I hope happens. I hope that he switches back
from shortstop to third because he is an electric third baseman.
As good as he is at the shortstop, I think
he's way better as a third baseman. So I feel

(01:12:31):
like the things that happened this postseason with Manny right
teams maybe might be Larry. But then again, man he
came out and said exactly who he was. We talked
about it a second ago. He says he's not Mr
Johnny Hustle. He's not gonna be diving into bases like that,
you know. I When I think of Mandy Machado, I
think is somebody like a Draymond Green. And this is why, right,

(01:12:51):
not all of our players can be can be the heroes. Right.
You gotta have some villains, you gotta have some instigators,
and Draymond Green is one of those guys. But people
still love Draymond Green Jaymond, but Jamond Green plays hard
like the idea of the idea of like, hey, do
you want you want to make two or fifty million dollars?
That's cool, but like like and and I don't know,
I don't know if if if the Angels, for for example,

(01:13:13):
if they're going to spend some money, um, but the
Angels have the opposite of that, that they have a
Mike Trout who has all that talent and he has
gotten hurt playing hard, And I just I just wonder
if you know if that act works in another franchise
when you're gonna be the highest paid guy, well, and
and and and obviously it doesn't. I mean, obviously you
saw what happened in the postseason, you know, and in
the World Series. I mean, you bring over a guy

(01:13:35):
like Manny Machado, you think he's gonna help, you know,
help you run the table. And I can promise you
if he would have helped them win the World Series,
there's no doubt he would have been back in l A.
But because of everything that happened, and not only that,
you know, with with superstars like that, sometimes a little
baggage comes along with that, right. So I think if
you're a general manager and owner, you got to weigh

(01:13:56):
the pros for the comus because at the end of
the day, that kid can swing the poll and he
can play some baseball. It's just you gotta be able
to get in there and saying Hey, I need you
to change around your style or maybe your approach to
the game a little bit. Sis. You're the best. Thanks
for Jonas man bro hope everything. We hope you're working
on that tennis. Tennis. We're gonna play it. We're gonna
play some tennis. You're gonna play somebody something. Something tells

(01:14:16):
me that Swisher covers the court quite well. Thanks so much.
Wish I'm working, I'm working. That's Nick Swisher Fox MLB Analysts.
By the way, um, this will be a hard Caleb
Cowhert Cowhart is the is the third baseman for the Angels.
Do you only hit this year? Take a guess you
have any idea what what he hit this year? I'm
gonna go one, one, seventy seven he hit. Yes, dude,

(01:14:41):
he played uh And you're like, no, no, no, he
was only part ten numbers. No, no, no, he played
every game this year. He played every game this year.
He had sixty one hits the entire season. That's unbelievable.
I feel like you could bunt and get on on

(01:15:01):
base more often. I feel like you get bunned. So
that's a hard one. If you're the eight, like a
team like the Angels like man, we need players, we
got money, we got trout, we're trying to get a
new stadium. We gotta figure some things out. And then
you got a guys like you not really playing hard.
It's not really my thing, but my thing checking with
Dan buyer Man. What a day of the National Football League?

(01:15:25):
And uh, I guess in a way, Doug, it keeps
getting better and better. It started with the Cleveland Browns,
where things aren't good in Cleveland and really not good
for former head coach Hugh Jackson. Yes, fired today by
the Browns along with offensive coordinator Todd Haley. In fact,
GM John Dorsey and owner Jimmy has them meeting with
the media as we speak, saying that they were looking

(01:15:46):
to quote put the organization in a better place today
than they did yesterday. End quote that from the owner. Now,
Greg Williams, the team's defensive coordinator, will remain on as
defensive coordinator, but also serve as the team's interim head
coach for their final eight games of the season. It's
been a crazy season for the Browns, who traded wide
receiver Josh Gordon to the New England Patriots after he

(01:16:07):
was late for his Saturday workout well, Gordon was apparently
late to some Patriots team activities and won't play for
about the first quarter of tonight's game against the Buffalo Bills.
This according to the NFL Network, the Buccaneers have bench
quarterback Jamis Winston in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick for their
Week nine game against Carolina. Winston was benched after throwing
four picks and yesterday's lost to the Bengals, and for

(01:16:30):
the first time in his tenure as Cowboys head coach,
Jason Garrett is fired a coach in season. Today, the
Cowboys that go of offensive line coach Paul Alexander. In
college football, Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Ronley says he's not
interested in the NFL right now. Doesn't know if you'll
ever have that itch. The Calgary Flames take on the

(01:18:05):
played forty seven games this year. He played a hundred
sixty games in his career. In forties seven games, he
had about thirty four, so Ramos actually was was correct
with tonight with with this year one thirty, I said,
we have a full year's worth of of data. Though
that tells us, uh, yeah, hitting not really hitting a
baseball not really his thing to this point. Anyway, Yes,

(01:18:29):
Angels need a third baseman. And wouldn't it be interesting
to see the polar opposites in style between a Mike
Trout and a Manni Machado every day? This time, I'd
like to play for you a portion a portion of
um of a show previously on Fox Sports Warner Fox
Sports Radio we call it. Step Bail has had this

(01:18:52):
to say about Kirk Cousins. That pair of receivers for
the Vikings makes Kirk Cousins look a lot better than
he should look because he throws balls that that are
just crazy balls and they go up and snatch them
or come back. Those are the two best at finding
the football and changing, you know, repositioning for the football.

(01:19:13):
They're both really really good at it. And there were
four or five throws last night where I said, oh,
that's up for grabs, and they one time sneel filand
just went over snatches and Diggs will come back for one,
you say, wow, these guys are really good. But in
that case, he throws it right to p J pick six,
and you just can't do it in a game of
that magnitude, Sunday night football, close game. And all I

(01:19:34):
know is as a Cowboy fan, I miss Kirk Cousins
playing for the Washington Skins. I do. He was one
in six against the Cowboys because he always they're always
hidden blunders in his QBR that play. Whatever who's ever
fault it is, you just have to eliminate it. Is
it digs fault or is it just should the quarterback
not have tried it at all? Whatever it is, it's

(01:19:55):
it's a typical Kirk Cousins play, I don't think. And
he's He's referenced seeing the play where Stefon Diggs was
on a crossing route against man to man and Cousin
steps up in the pocket and leads him. At the
exact time he leads him, Stefon Diggs plants his feet
and stops like it's a zone. It's pretty obvious that
Stefon Diggs's fault there. That's not a typical Kirk Cousins play.

(01:20:17):
Kirk Cousins does lack some of the armed talent of
the the Aaron Rodgers of the world. I mean, the
fact is that there's a lot of Drew Brees in
Kirk Cousins. Right, Drew Brees is first four or five
years in San Diego. There were there was a lot
of talk about his his lack of arm strength and Cousins.
It's been a lot better playing in the Dome, much
the way it's been better for Drew Brees playing in

(01:20:38):
the Dome. There are times last night Whendrew Brees through
the ball up for grabs and through interception. The craziest
part about what's what uh Skip is saying, which is
not inaccurate how good those two wide receivers are, is
that that game was lost by those two wide receivers.
Adam Felan fumbled when the Vikings are up three and

(01:21:00):
I think at the ten yard line, at the Saints
ten yard line. He fumbles, but plenty of time remaining
and they could have double dip scored and then got
the ball back to start the second half. They either
kick a field goal they're up six, or score touchdown
go up ten. But he fumbles and Stefan digs quits
on a route in which he either read the defense
wrong or read Kirk Cousins. I'm not sure what he

(01:21:20):
was doing. Maybe he thought Cousins was gonna run because
man and man he stopped, his man would stop. Not sure.
The point is that neither were Cousins fault and at
middle him that's ten points. That's difference in the game.
Difference in the game. So I'm not disputing that Kirk
Cousins is not Aaron Rodgers. I don't think he is.

(01:21:40):
I don't think anybody thought he was. He's not Tom Brady.
I think he was. But considering the Vikings haven't had
great quarterback play, considering how well he's played, is he
a product of the wide receivers, Sure, but they haven't
had a great offensive line and haven't had a good
run game. I think he's been actually an appropriate value

(01:22:02):
based upon his level of competency. There's a story out
agel Ward Jnowski says that Rick Pettino hopes to return
to coaching in the NBA. Rick Pettina's first coaching job
with the New York Knicks was a success to a point.
Rick Pettina's second coaching job, which he had complete control of,
the Boston Celtics was not. But rip Pettino should coach

(01:22:26):
in the NBA in my opinion, because he's a tremendous
basketball coach. You don't have to like him or like
his style, and I'm not sure if it absolutely positively
translates twins, but I do know that he's as close
to a savant as we have in the sport. He
he embraced the three point shot with Providence and took

(01:22:48):
them to the Final four, and then use that with
the New York Knicks before anybody else did. He tanked
with the Boston Celtics before anybody else did. Playing small ball,
that was Ripettino. Credit Don Nelson as well, but he
did so also having guys lose weight before anybody else did.
Now do I know if he's evolved enough offensively with

(01:23:11):
some of this? Probably not. There'd be a need for
some NBA coaches because coaching the NBA is different. But
the idea that because of the scandals at Louisville he
shouldn't coach in the NBA when by all accounts he's
as good a coach in the modern era basketball as
we've ever seen. That's silly. That's silly. Really silly. All right,

(01:23:35):
What in the hell is going on in Cleveland? If
you're just joining us? Not only is Hugh Jackson out,
but so too is his offensive coordina. They don't get
along and they're both gone. What does this mean for
Baker Mayfield? Who would possibly take that job in the
upcoming off season? And can the Browns win this season

(01:23:56):
in spite of the dysfunction? Well ask Michael Lombardi, former
GM in the league. He joins us next on the
Dug Gotlip Show. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports
talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows

What Up Tug Gottlieb Show? Fox Sports Radio? What a

(01:24:19):
crazy day in Cleveland? But it does, it does kind
of sort of maybe makes sense, like your offense, according
to your head coach, cannot coexist. Why I give them
both the way, but the timing is odd and the

(01:24:40):
fact that it's Cleveland. Yeah, oh man, So that's what
happened today in Cleveland, you know, instead of Cleveland Sports
Radio talking about Tyron lou being fired and just three
games into the season, well, we end up talking about

(01:25:01):
the Cleveland Browns parting ways with Hugh Jackson, who I
think most people thought just hung on for dear life
for his job after last year. You know, you go
winless and you keep your job. You win one game
in two years. We lost a bunch of close games
this year. But it's the clear dysfunction, especially the offensive side.
I look, the defense statistically is not great, with the

(01:25:22):
exception of takeaways their first in the NFL, and takeaways
that's Greig Williams. Stop plays super super aggressive and when
it works like it did that one season in New Orleans,
you got a chance to give your team the ball more.
You've got a chance to win a lot of games.
But the timing is crazy. And who would know better
about being general manager of the Cleveland Browns and a

(01:25:43):
former general manager of the Cleveland Browns, of course, author
of a new book, Gridiron Genius, The Master Class and
Winning Championships and Building Dynasties in the NFL on sale
now that Michael Lombardi who joined us on Fox Sports Radio. Michael,
when you heard the story that now it was Hugh
Jackson out, but Todd Hailey was out as well. What
was your reaction you know. I mean, look, I I

(01:26:05):
you don't want anybody to get fired in their jobs,
but I think Hughes had a large enough sample size
going into this season that you know he wasn't a
head coach. I mean, you can talk about, you know,
the obstacles, but when you don't, when you're winless and
only have one win after two seasons, I mean, that's
pretty much telling about your ability to be the head coach.
And there is a thing called the Peter principal. You know,

(01:26:26):
certain guys move up to certain levels, they can't handle it,
and the unfortunately it doesn't work out. So I think
it's way late. I think now they're behind the eight
ball and trying to figure out what they're gonna do.
They make Greg Williams the interim coach. They certainly don't
want Greg Williams to be the full time coach. They're
gonna have to fix the offense. You know, they got
they got Baker Mayfield there who the new coach coming
in didn't pick Baker Mayfield, you know, so they're gonna

(01:26:48):
try to find somebody who loves Baker Mayfield. It's just
to me, you know, oftentimes, and anything we do in life,
the words too late usually resonate with mistakes and this
is too late. Oh okay, So just help me out though,
Why was Todd Haley hired to begin with? Like, I know,
you know Dorsey has been the legal while I think
I think Haley was gone from Kansas City by the

(01:27:10):
time he got there. Like that seemed like an that
seemed like an odd fit to begin with. Well, look,
it was the idea of the general manager, John Dorsey
to hire a guy to come in and run the
offense and let h be the head coach, she be
the CEO of the team. But the reality here is
is what would sho do? I talked about it on
my podcast GM Street. I mean, what does you do Monday,

(01:27:30):
true Friday. He's not He's not gonna go tell Hally
what to do. Because Haley took the job under the
understanding he could run the offense. And so whenever you
have this much sub coordinators, within your subcontractors, within your organization,
you're asking for trouble. You're really asking for a lot
of trouble. So this, this is the biggest problem. It
was set up wrong from the beginning. And you know,

(01:27:52):
Hugh's claimed the famous He's an offensive guru. But you know,
you've never seen that before. You've never seen any any
evidence to support the guru, and so it's problems and
so you know that that should have happened in the
off season, but for whatever reason, Jimmy Haslum thought he
saw a great coach, and Hugh Jackson want to keep them. Okay,
so everyone, you know it's copycat league, right, Everyone wants

(01:28:14):
to get a young quarterback. First year, doesn't work out,
the next year, you go and hire some young, offensive
whipper staffer or maybe not young, but you know Matt
Naggie and what what he's done. You look at John McVeigh.
Obviously that's the copycat of everybody with what the Rams
have done. Um, and so now everybody, how can we
get a Naggy? How can we get a McVeigh? Is
it Lincoln Riley? I mean, who else who is out

(01:28:34):
there that could be that guy? For Baker Mayfield? Well, look,
I think to me, I think it's really I don't
think what Cleveland needs a culture? How don't think Cleveland
needs somebody that's satisfied that Baker Mayfield. I mean, in
my book, my book is all about building a culture.
My book is all about building an organization and it
has nothing to do with catering to the quarterback. It's
about getting the culture. I mean, Jimmy haslum you know,

(01:28:56):
has got the ability. You know, when you look to
me in college football, you see guy who have developed
programs in college football, and they build programs. And that's
what Cleveland needs more than anything. Now, Dorsey's the head,
the general manager, and so whoever comes in is going
to have to understand that. And and Dorsey is gonna
have to understand, you know, to get a top play coach,

(01:29:16):
you're gonna have to allow him. I think they could.
To me, I would do whatever it took to get
Davo Sweeney to come to Cleveland. I don't think you
can get Dabbo Sweeney. I think they're talking Lincoln Riley.
I think I take him an experienced guy like Dabo
Sweeted to come in there and build a program. They
need a culture. There's no better culture builder in America
than Devo Sween did. His Devo is unbelievable. He is really,
really remarkable. And that's the name that others have have
not brought up. Michael Lombardi joining us on the Doug

(01:29:39):
Otlib show here on Fox Sports Radio. I felt like
the Packers defense was really good. I didn't like the
play call that led to the safety, and uh time,
Montgomery obviously missed the block that got them off track,
and then he decides to return a kick that he
didn't need to just take a knee. Outside of the
fact that Montgomery playing hero ball ended any chance of

(01:30:01):
pulling off an upset, what's the reaction to how the
Packers played against the Rams. Look, I thought the Packers
played as well as you can. I mean, obviously the safeties.
You know, when you're backed up like that, you know
you gotta sneak that ball out of there. It's tough
to hand it off, especially against that front. Or you've
got a hard count them because really what happens if
you jump off side they moved at one inch back?
You know what are you losing? Right? So you've got

(01:30:22):
a really hard count. And certainly you can hard count
Sue all the time because he just loves to jump.
He can't wait to jump offside. So you know, that
was a tough game situation. I think the situational football
cost him. That situation cost him, And then you can
say what you want. I mean, I know somebody says
they told Time Montgomery, but you know, look, you can't
allow that time. If they did tell Time Montgomery and
he's stole on the team today or by the trading

(01:30:43):
deadline tomorrow, then there's something wrong with the Packers. You
gotta trade him or cut him, you know. And because
if he just was this was he was not listening
to what you told him to do and he cost
you the game, he's got to go. Yeah, I think
he's I think he's gone. And time it could have
been worse. What uh, what do you make of of
the Rams offense? I mean, they have so much weaponry.

(01:31:04):
Obviously Girly is a special talent, but it did struggle
to get on track yesterday. Um, the rookie for Green
Bay looked amazing, Gyra Alexander. I think a kid from
Louisville had a tremendous game. But is the league catching
up to what Sean mcveigh's doing this this season? Well,
they you know, they scored twenty eight points. I mean, look,
you know what the Packers said yesterday is they hit golf,

(01:31:25):
something that typically not a lot of teams do. They
got to golf and you know, Girly still average four
six accountry and they were doing effective doing that. But
I think and the Rams are eight for eighteen on
third down. But I think the key number there is
that rare is the Packers forced eighteen thrown downs. They
forced eighteen third downs, which is so critical. And then
they played really good in the red zone. You know,

(01:31:46):
they held they held the Rams for two for four
in the red zone, one for two and gold to
gold situations. And that's the recipe to win. That's the
recipe to keep the game in the twenties. Going into
that game, the Packers have over the five games, the
Packers have given up twenty eight points if you throw
out the Buffalo game, the six Buffalo games, right, so
just throw that game out. All the other opponents they played,
they've given up twenty eight point one points a game.

(01:32:07):
So they gave up what the average for everybody else.
They just did it well. And I'm disappointed. And really,
the drive that cost the Packers the game that no
one talks about is when they got the ball back
with the lead, they needed to extend the lead, and
that's the drive that Montgomery missed the block on. And
that really cost him. I mean that drive there in
the fourth quarter, when they come back out and you

(01:32:27):
know they've got the ball and they've got a chance
to you know they got they got a third and
six and you get sacked for a ten yard loss.
That's a killer. That's an absolute killer because you needed
to score points there. Michael Lombardi joining us on the
Doug Outlet Show on Fox Sports Radio, what's your assessment
of kirk Cousins to date. Well, look, I think kirk Cousins.

(01:32:48):
I think Minnesota was hurt last night. I think missing
Galvin Kirk Kurtz Kirk Cousins. I think we can't we
cannot minimize that. I think there's no doubt about that.
Then he gets screwed up on the route coming across
from a touchdown. You know, PJ picks it off, the
receiver stops, and certainly there's some elements that happened. But
I think more than anything, I think when you look
at the Vikings, I don't think they were a hundred
percent go into that game. I mean Delon has the

(01:33:10):
fumble to getting ready to score ten or the half.
I means you can't make mistakes. I mean that's the
reality you can't make mistakes. You do that, you don't
lose games. And that's what they did. They turned the
ball and this is why they lost the Buffalo. So
you know, it circles back to Cousins. You know, the
guys throwing the ball really well, it's only any commations
of the game. But yet he makes the interception for
the touchdown, they fumble in the red zone. Those two plays,

(01:33:31):
they killed their team and they killed their chance. If
I would have told you Doug that Doug breezes that
that's that Drew Brees is gonna throw for a hundred
twenty yards and the and the Saints we're gonna win,
you have said you're crazy, right, And yet they did.
And now look, but both those plays were like like
you know, Dig's cut quit on a crossing route against
Man Demn and Dealing fumbled like those. I'm with everybody

(01:33:54):
on Cousins does have a ceiling that's lower than the
star quarterbacks. But I think he's played really well and
I don't think either of those two mistakes were on him.
I agree. Look, I think he takes so much heat
for for making so much money. It's not his fault.
If you want to be mad at anybody. Be mad
at Bruce Allen as the general manager of the Washington Redskins.
He's the one who messed up the contract. Don't you

(01:34:15):
know Kirk Cousins doesn't have He was franchised. He didn't
ask for it, he got franchise. He got put in
this income bracket by the Redskins thinking that they could
outsmartest agents. So look, kirk Cousins has given him everything
they have. I mean, I don't think that's the problem.
I mean, look, everybody loves say Kwan Barkley. He's a
great player. He's one of the highest paid backs guaranteed
money in the league. The Giants are one in six
to me, Why aren't you giving him a hard time?

(01:34:38):
What do you do with Jameis Winston? If you're Tampa
If I'm Tampa Bay, I'm gonna trade him. I'm gonna
try to trade them. The problem is Tampa Bay doesn't
have any any real awareness or any any reality of
what he's worth. You know, right now he's on the
books next year for twenty million dollars guaranteed for skill.
I wrote about this in The Athletic Today. So what
that means, Doug if he plays this year and say

(01:34:58):
he gets hurt and I don't wish this on anyone,
but let's just say he gets hurt and he tears
his knee and his a c L. That means next year,
his twenty million is guaranteed. They are at a high
high risk if they play this player for the rest
of the year of exposing themselves to twenty million dollars, okay,
because he could get hurt, and if he doesn't, if
he's not able to pass the end of the year physical,

(01:35:19):
which is at the end of the season or the
beginning physical, they can't. They can't take that skill off,
they can't take that injury off of them. It becomes
guaranteed and they owe it to him. So if you
could trade them between now and tomorrow, which no team
is going to take that contract on and have that liability,
I don't think, and then take the turnovers on as well.
I don't think they'll do that. I think I think
Tampa is in for the harsh reality that the player

(01:35:41):
they think is their franchise no one else does. Josh
Gordon is He's going to play tonight against the Bills,
but he's gonna miss some series because apparently he was
late to a team event. This is the same Josh
Gordon that comes in with some strikes against him. You
know Bill Belichick really really well. You've worked with and
for Bill Belichick. What's your assessment of of just how

(01:36:03):
close Josh Gordon is from getting run off from the Patriots. Look,
you know I said this from the beginning. Volume is
going to be the hardest thing for Josh Gordon. You know,
it's it's not doing it once one time. And that's
why all those helmets are out there on the in
the seal base of the Navy Seals. A lot of
guys can go through seal training for a day, they
could do it for two days, they can go for
three days, but then they got to do it for
thirty straight days. That wears on it. And that's what

(01:36:24):
I'm concerned about with with with Josh Gordon, I'm not
concerned about him early. I'm concerned about them when it matters.
Most of November December, Michael, great stuff, Thanks so much

What's changing the running game? I mean, Lamar Miller went
from Houston, always been getting the ball eighteen twenty times game.
Now of a sudden he's gashing people for for for
a hundred plus yards. We'll ask him. He joins us next.

Doug Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. We told you at
the time, at the time it happened. The Cults are
playing the Texans. The Colts decided to go for in
their own forty three yard line and they don't get
at The Texans end up taking a field goal, winning
the game. In overtime. Then the next week, of course,
on the Texans forty three yard line, the Cowboys choose

(01:37:49):
to not go for it and the Texans get the
ball back and end up winning a second game in overtime.
We told you when had happened with the Colts that
that tie saved their season. Now just as you get, uh,
you know, just because you get like a life raft
throw on your way, doesn't mean you take advantage of it.
But that's exactly what the Texts have done. They take
advantage of it. And now they're all on in first place,
one of the hottest teams in the Nation Football League.

(01:38:10):
And there, I say, running the football really really well
with the help of Lamar Miller. There start running back
who joins us on the Doug Gottlib Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Lamar, how are you? I'm good? How about
your stuff? Good man? Um? Okay, take me to Indianapolis, right,
you guys are about to tie, and the Colts choose

(01:38:30):
to go for it in their own side of the field.
Do you remember what you were doing when that happened? Yes,
I remember I was up there charing for the defense,
and the defense did a great job, but stopped with
them a funk down and you know, once the offense,
I think we had a couple of seconds from now
and um coach O'Brien, who did a great job, you know,

(01:38:53):
Um caught on the right place and at the at
the time the sign did a great job just giving
the ball to Hopkins. And you know, he made a
big place for this team. Man, you know, put us
in the best situation to where Yeah, and Nuke of
course made a great play the very next week against
the Dallas Cowboys. But but how much did that because
you know, you you go back home with the three

(01:39:15):
and one, you're like, man, that's that That's that's tough.
How much did that change your season? It turns in
a lot. You know, we've been a first facing adversity
for the first three games. You know, all our dance
was real close, and you know, some way, somehow we
tried to find a way to you know, winning the
ball games when it's close. You know, the following week

(01:39:39):
when we played the Cowboys, you know, everybody with just bonding,
just doing whatever the coach had been telling them throughout
the whole week practice. You know, like I said before,
Hopkins made a big player. Uh to put us in
field goal range and I want the game Labar Miller
joining us in the Dug Outlive show on Fox Sports Trade.

(01:40:00):
The other thing that I think propelled your team, and
you tell me if I'm I'm dead wrong is when
de Shaun he had to get what like a like
a van or a bus to go to to UH
to the game in Jacksonville because of because of his
his lung right because he had a collapse lung. Like,
did you know how bad it was before he wasn't
on the team plane. No, I didn't know how bad

(01:40:23):
it was. Um, once we got on the plane, he
didn't normally ship like behind him. I was, I was
like him the song. Um, one of the guys on
the team told me that he had to take a bus. Uh,
you know it was I was sucked at first, but
you know, he's a guy that's one on your turn.
You know, he kind of worked every day. You know,

(01:40:46):
have great leadership and he's one of the leaders on
our team. So it's good to have him on our team. Yeah.
That is especially in the league where quarterbacks are so
protected and there's look, they make a ton of money
and they're super were protecting you can't touch him. You
have a quarterback that's coming off a second knee injury
and he's got he's got a collapse long, he's got

(01:41:06):
to take a bus to the game from Houston to Jacksonville.
Just stand up against that defense. That that shows he's
made of a little bit different stuff than many of
these other quarterbacks. No. Yes, you know he's a tough guy.
You know, he had that swagger. You know I said before,
he come awork every day and I'm ready to go.
And you know you could just by his confidence and

(01:41:29):
the top of swa he chas owner and at the
share that he's a tough guy and somebody that's one
on your team. All Right, You're coming off a season
high hundred thirty three yards against the Miami Dolphins. Back
to back hundred yard games. Obviously, you know you had, uh,
you had the big you know, fifty eight yard run
the third quarter, which helps you get to that total.
But what what's changed? I mean, they're still giving you

(01:41:50):
the ball, you know, eighteen twenty two times a game,
but the last two games have been completely different terms
of uh, your your average yards per carry? What's change
in the running game? I don't think everybody has bond Man.
You know, the office and line been doing a great
job the past, you know, see, to give me the

(01:42:10):
opportunity to you know, be the SISI of that there
and make partitive players, you know, and once to decrease.
I just tried to hit it, you know, to put
us in the best situation as possible to you know,
keep the chance moving. Lamar Miller joining us in the
dug Outlip Show Fox Sports Radio. It really is fascinating though,

(01:42:30):
to see like this is We're told by so many
NFL people, Hey, first four weeks, we're still trying to
figure some things out. You know, we'll figure it out
by week four, week five. That's really what's happened with
the Patriots. That's what's happened with you guys. How has
this kind of evolution taken place with with the Texans? Um?
I understand, you know, Um, we just get to the script.

(01:42:51):
You know, everybody come to work. You know, I'm willing
to learn, and we just try to progress every week.
You know, just a long season. You know, it's an
NFL and when when the business with what have you
done lately? Um? You know, I think everybody just been
holding each other accountable and I don't know. I just

(01:43:12):
think we have a different attitude now, and you know,
we just gotta keep building, you know. Um we're heading
it to November and this where you know, um it
counts the moost Okay, you got you got a road
game after you know, you have the weekend off and
you got a road game. And by the way, it's
awesome to have the weekend off and then go beat
a team from Miami being a you guy. Halloween? Do

(01:43:34):
you have a Halloween party this weekend? No? I don't
have a Halloween part of this week? Are you going to?
Do you have a hell? Do you guys have a
team Halloween party? I mean didn't work out so well
for the Broncos Kelly got because of it? Yeah, we
we haven't one tomorrow. Absolutely, what are you going at?
I'm not silly. I haven't found a custom yet, so
I'm lantas a minute, so I have to go around. Hold,

(01:43:57):
we got we gotta work this thing out. What what
do you guys think? You guys have any suggestions for
Lamar Miller Ryan Music? Do you have any suggestions for
Lamar Mill? I mean, what, like, is there a TV
show movie character? I mean, you know you don't video games,
I don't know. Help help us out, give us a
sense of who you are, what you you know. We
can make one up kind of on the fly. Here,

(01:44:17):
um uh music, you have no ideas well? I mean,
let's see, so Deshaun Watson has been playing banged up,
so can he do like a ripped Deshaun Watson shirt
for you know, being like an injured DeShawn Watson. He
get like he gets like a Superman shirt with like
Deshaun Watson's jersey over. I don't know that that's him

(01:44:39):
because like, yeah, man, that's a hard one. You could.
We're trying to get one of my daughters that go
as a crazy cat lady. Right, you just get like
you go and get stuffed animal cats and you like
stay staypleme to a shirt and you get old lady Wig.
Dan Buyer, you have any suggestions or you but you're
not a big I'm sure dan By is not a
big Halloween guy. Comes any costume for Lamar Miller go

(01:45:00):
as Bill O'Brien's cleff in his chin. You know, just
that just that maybe you can get a you can
go with Bill O'Brien. You can put a Cleff and
you put a little line down the middle of it,
and then just say all the Bill O'Brien's expressions that
he says, we didn't help. We didn't help you that much.
Report back on what other guys. But you can also
just go as yourself right. I'm me. I'm like, okay,

(01:45:23):
it's good costume. You look exactly like you. Last thing,
favorite candy is what my favorite candy? I like Hershey
Cookie and cree her She's cookies and cream. You can't
say about that, Lamar, congrats on the recent success and resurgence.
Safe travels uh to Denver, look forward to Senior run
for more than a hundred yards again this weekend. Lamar

(01:45:47):
Miller joining us in the Doug out Of show. You
guys stink. I'm doing a radio show. I'm asking questions. Ramos.
You didn't say a word, not a word. You can't
think of one outfit not for him. I haven't bought
a Halloween costume, make one. I haven't. I haven't gone
to a Halloween party, and I don't have kids, so

(01:46:08):
I haven't thought about what a clever Halloween costume is.
Since college. You can put on you put on a
you put a suit and then staple papers to it.
You could be a lawsuit, right, like write laws on
Lost John. I think just heard that one for the
first time. I think that's from the movie Philadelphia. Actually, yeah,

(01:46:31):
from John's on a movie. Guys, there are you Philadelphia?
You'll see Tom Hank Tom Hanks six streies of Tom
Hanks by or do you have anything to offer for
costumes for Lamar Miller? Yeah, I gave you the bill
O'Brien Cleff, maybe James, maybe just James Harden's beard. Just
you know, just go in all hair. That's all you

(01:46:53):
gotta do. Just a bunch of wagings be Yeah, you
can do that. Music you have nothing? I got nothing.
What about the intern? Does he have anything? Anthony? Anthony's
on his phone. He's sitting there, he's on his phone
because he's a millennial. They can't even look up in
the phones. Like, why are you guys talking about? Can
you make sure you give me a recommendation? I paid
attention for at least five minutes of the show. Thank you, Anthony.

(01:47:15):
I cannot believe how badly we let down Lamar Miller.
Pel awful. I asked the question was legit question? You
got a party to nine. I was like, all right,
we're gonna work this thing out. And none of us had.
If he had given a little bit about the shows
that he likes to watch or something like that, it
could have been inspiration if he said Game of Thrones, Like,
was there somebody you just recommend from Game of Thrones?
Don't watch Game of Thrones? So I don't know, Okay,

(01:47:35):
so what John Snow? Isn't that someone there? You? You
could have been John Snow, John Snow white or black?
I don't know. I just knows, but John, we are
thinking of it is a white This is honest question.
This is Screa got on this question. I've never seen
an episode of Game of Thrones. Are the blacks and

(01:47:59):
Game of Thrones? I don't. I don't know that. I've
never seen it either. None of us have ever watched
I have watched it. Yes, I did see it, and
I think so, yeah, I can't say for sure. Wait
wait wait what? Well, I'm just I'm racing each episode
through my head right now, and I'm trying to there

(01:48:20):
either are or are not black people in Game of Thrones?
I would like, yes, I'm just again, there's seven seasons
I'm just going through each season. It's not readily available,
but I'm thinking, yes, yes, you've seen all seven seasons,
and you didn't know off hand if there are any
black people in Game of Thrones the right that would

(01:48:42):
be a correct assumption. Yes, okay, all right, Oh, get
to Dan buy or find out. Oh there looking for
a new costume in Hugh Jackson's closet because the Browns
gear can hit the roads. The brown he could go
as Hugh Jackson rights and you could go. He can

(01:49:04):
have a pink slip, like just buy a pink slip
and put it on. Get a brown shirt, put a
pink slip on. There you go. Hugh Jackson won three games,
that is two and a half years. Is the Brown's
head coach, but a head coach no more. Fired today
by Cleveland, as was offensive coordinator Todd Hailey g M
John Dorsey explaining the move we're attempting to do here
and now is create the best environment moving forward, not

(01:49:26):
only for the players, but for the you know, the
coaching staff as well. And that's what our soul focuses
on right now is the second half of the two
thousand and eighteen season moving forward, that's the GM as
interim defense or interimed coach will be Greg Williams, who
will remain on as defensive coordinator. Other moves in the
NFL today, the Cowboys dismissed offensive line coach Paul Alexander.

(01:49:48):
Buccaneers bench quarterback Jamis Winston. Sir Ryan Fitzpatrick is back
as the starter for Weeknight against Carolina. Tonight, it's the
Patriots in Bills eight fifteen Eastern time. We don't expect
to see pa through its wide receiver Josh Gordon Early.
He's not gonna play about a quarter, according to the
NFL Network, after he was tardy for a team activity earlier.
This right like you used tardy people lea use tardy

(01:50:11):
for school when when you're in fact, it's your tardy
is being late. It's a great work. Thank you, You're welcome.
I don't feel tardy. That was a hot for teaching.
Teach you. I don't feel tardy. Those are music videos,
Ryan Music. MTV used to play music videos after before

(01:50:31):
Jersey Shore, well before give me something to write on
Man Bucks forward? Whoa Jane coopo out for the Bucks?
Tonight they take on the Raptors the Loan unbeatens in
the NBA six and oh against six and Oh, So
the Bucks want to have be honest, the Raptors don't
have Kawhi Leonard out because of rest. No Anthony Davis

(01:50:52):
tonight for the Pelicans. He's gonna miss the game against
the Nuggets with an injured elbow. The Calgary Flames take
on the Toronto Maple Leafs at seven o'clock Eastern. Make

(01:51:15):
the way, I expected to miss the start of the
team's road trip in Brooklyn Friday because of a strained hamstring.
RC Patent Nation mob tweets us and says Gottlive show.
There's one black eye in Game of Thrones. He's a pirate.
There you go, So there's a there is a limited
number of black eyes in UH, but there's also like
blue guys too, write and red guys and green guys. Um,

(01:51:37):
what is the premise honestly, Like, what is the premise
of the show? Are they is this? There's some kingdoms?
And where is it supposed to take place? I'm saying
it think in Europe somewhere somewhere in the European era arena. Okay,
but I mean is it a long long time ago? Key?
It is a while ago. Yeah. Everyone, I know, everyone

(01:52:00):
who watched the show loves the show. Loves the show
better than Breaking Bad. I know it's different. Yes, quite Rome.
I used to like Rome. Remember the show Rome on HBO.
I should love Rome. Also very graphic, grotesquely, this is graphic. Yeah,
there's some graphics stuff in this. I think you'd like

(01:52:20):
it if you I'm sure you don't have you have HBO, right, Um,
you can sure. I honestly don't know I have. I've
I mean the process. I told you guys, I have
both direct TV and cable. You have two separate and
so I can watch because my whole thing is like
I never want to turn on with like I can't
watch the game Like that's just silly. That's it is

(01:52:42):
kind of my job, right because directly doesn't have Packed
twelve network, and you need to see that Pack twelve
and I don't know if they have SEC network and
I and I also want to say that, um, there's
a couple other packages you can get only with with
with cable that you couldn't get and then you can't
get Sunday ticket. You can get red Zone, but you

(01:53:02):
can't get Sunday Ticket with cable. So yeah, I spent
a crazy amount of money on TV. I'm that guy
that's keeping both Cable and somebody. You know. The thing
about McVeigh, which is interesting, I watched that Rams Packers
game and it was a very good football game. If

(01:53:24):
you listen to Sean mcveigh's comments after the game, he
even said, like I kind of got in some trouble.
I have some of my play colleague. Like one of
the things that's really impressive about McVeigh, we were all
kind of concerned. I'm I'm I'm gonna lump you guys
in there with with me because I kind of convinced
you guys to be concerned about the Rams with all
the personalities they have in that locker room. And while

(01:53:49):
everybody goes crazy about Sean mcveigh's play calling, the playcolling
is really good. But play calling only gets you to
a certain point. You gotta win the hearts and minds
of guys. And their offense was not good for the
most part against an okay defense the Green Bay Packers,
but they won that game because they got stops. They
got points off of their defense. And like the perfect

(01:54:10):
example of the level of buy in is Todd Gurley
taking a knee or giving himself up when he had
the game one. He should have gone in the end zone.
Go in the end zone. You're up eight. At worst
case scenario, you can tie kick the X point nine.
You can't lose the game. Whereas you could actually fumble
a snap, even in victory formation, it could possibly happen, right,

(01:54:32):
So I actually think statistically the smart thing to do
would have been to take but the idea that Todd
Gurley was putting the team above himself in the city
lies Los Angeles, a team like the Rams. It's really
impressive what McVeigh has been able to do, not ex
Everyone talks about the play call it, but it's not

(01:54:52):
about the X and the ohs. It's about motivating the
Jimmy's and the Joe's and what he's done connecting with
the domin con Sue and Aaron Donald, and you know
Aaron Donald holding out. You've got all these guys on
one year deals. Really good. That that's the stuff that
has made Sean McVeigh a great coach. Not the hey
he can call jet sweeps. Put him side by side

(01:55:16):
with the Browns you have. He he hired a defensive
coordinator that in Wade Phillips, that's twice his age, that
handles those personalities and those egos, and he handles the offense.
And he has incredible creativity which has guys buying in.

(01:55:38):
But in addition to which he's respectful enough and encouraging enough,
and and by the way, I'm sure there's some of
those play calls that weren't his fault that they didn't work,
but him simply say he has my bad about that.
That's what true leadership is about. Golf is a golf
is a good player. He's a good, solid leader, is
a really good guy. But he's not a he's not
gonna he's not a super verbal, get in front of

(01:55:59):
the cameras, I screwed this game up sort of guy
that everybody thinks. He's not the face of the franchise.
McVeigh is and he could be self deprecating when everybody
else is giving him so much respect. Why Hugh Jackson
and Todd Haley both have to be fired next be

when it used to be cool to have the hots
for teachers, Oh, let's roll with that, writing a song
about having the hots threw teacher. It's called statutory and

(01:56:48):
doesn't work out all that well, don't don't, dont don't down,
Van helen Is. The artist title is hot for Teacher.
The year is Boump bound bound bound, Boum bound, boum
bom ba. Yeah, but I like the end class dismissed. Well,

(01:57:30):
let's just play for a second. David Lee row at
the singer to see me after this school hold on
the good course, But then my homework is never quite
like this. H let's get to the press depress. What

(01:58:05):
year you think that was right. Ye, absolutely, I think
the clock is slow. Oh yes, so great. I loved
hearing that. Thanks for playing a longer portion of it
as well. You are well there, that's that's what we're
here for. You up. I mean like that's still being played.

(01:58:28):
I believe in part of Wisconsin right one of the things.
And it's true when you go to different parts of
the country there are different types of radio stations, and
where I'm from, majority of classic rock in country there's
not as much you know, A C and pop, but
it's a lot of classic rock in country. Um, okay,
so your favorite lead singer of Van Halen is? Who it?

(01:58:50):
David Lee Roth has to be the answer, But I
really like Sammy Hagar song some of them man dreams.
Oh yeah, great stuff. That's why I asked you a
actually's a legit question. Most people think Sammy Hagar would
be the would be the correct answer. I think like
true rockers are like, oh, it's only David Lee Roth, yeah,
calling Van Hagar when Sammy took over. But yeah, I

(01:59:13):
mean the Hotford teacher. How could you favorite favorite song?
U Van Halen's song? I'll wait, Yeah, what's up? He shaid,
tell us now, Honestly, I liked Justin. I like his

(01:59:33):
Just a Jiggilo remake was was really really good. But
I would say, uh, my favorite is right now, which
is actually Sammy Hagar interesting, but it's more because I
love the solos there on that one. All right, well,
there's perfect because there's no tomorrow. For Hugh Jackson, yes,
fired today, as was offensive coordinator Todd Haley. It's the

(01:59:55):
best of both worlds. Jimmy has love with the announcement.
Today did what we thought was best for the organization. Um,
I think that we put the organization a better place
today than it was yesterday, moving forward and were compul
with the decision. Hugh Jackson out, Todd Haley out, Greg
william I'm staying on as defensive coordinator and now is
the team's interim head. Basically, what happened was Jimmy has

(02:00:17):
some is like who, like, who made this mess? He did?
You know what? You're both gone? You're both fired, right,
Like I just it's it's here's the thing. I know
it looks unprofessional, and it probably is, but it's probably
the most professional thing that they could do. Why have
a coach, why have an offensive coordinator who won't listen

(02:00:38):
to coach. But why have a head coach that can't
get the offensive coordinator to respect him and listen to him.
You're all fired now. They probably shouldn't have kept Hugh
Jackson past the last offseason, and there have been dysfunctional
first year Remember Jeff Fisher's first year with with Jared
Golf awful, right, total jip mess told and he was
fired and that worked out, okay, Um, First year for

(02:01:00):
Carson Wentz wasn't going to Philadelphia, that worked out okay.
First year with Mitchell Trobiski, you know that didn't work
out well and much better with with Naggie. So there
has been precedents for this very same type of firing,
even mid season. Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon's gonna miss
about a quarter of play tonight, according to the NFL Network,

(02:01:22):
as punishment for being late earlier this week. Touched on
this a bit earlier, but expect to see him second
quarter ish against Buffalo tonight. Yeah. If it If it
wasn't for the fact that it's Josh Gordon with the
baggage that he brings in, this would be no big deal.
But you you do wonder um, how much patience Bill
Belichick has for Josh Gordon's off the field nonsense. NFL

(02:01:43):
Network reports the Lions are receiving goals on veteran wide
receiver Golden Tate a day before the trade deadline. Not
that the Lions are shopping him, It's just that multiple
teams are interested in take before tomorrow's four o'clock Eastern time.
Don't be surprised if the Colts look at the Colts
schedule and remember they gave away that tie against the Texans.
The Colts have a really soft schedule up coming, and
they seem to be hitting their stride. In Marlon Mack

(02:02:05):
has has been an absolute god sent frangew luck now
he has a running game, offensive lines improved, Colts got
a chance. Well, don't be surprised if the Colts find
a way to get a slot wide receiver. Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley,
addressing the topic of him jumping to the NFL today,
are possibly jumping to the NFL. I love coaching here,
I love college football. I certainly don't have that it's
right now. I don't know that I ever will. But

(02:02:27):
I'm never gonna be a guy that's gonna stand up
here and say no, way, no, how any of these
things ever happened. I don't know that. I know right now,
I could care less about the NFL. We're trying to
we're trying to win this game and trying to make
a run that we all think we have in us
right now. It's I thought, that's a very honest answer.
I'm not gonna sit here and say never. I just
don't feel like it is right now. My only issue

(02:02:48):
with that answer, you know it is he said I
could care less. It's I couldn't care less. He said
I could care less. That means you care. There's actually
an amount that you could care less. It's I couldn't
care There's two very important things here. Okay, you don't
hoe a road. It's tough road to hoe. No, it's not.
It's a tough row row to hoe roe toe. It's

(02:03:08):
a it's a farming reference. You can't hoe a road
unless you have some amazing diamond laser cutter that can
hoh a road. Um, and you couldn't care less. The
Red Sox official Twitter account taking the time today to
reply to all of the tweets that replied to their
tweets on opening day it was a six four loss

(02:03:30):
to the Tampa Bay Rays on March twenty nine, and
you had Wendy tweeting in so upset, hope we can
turn this around, and uh D tweets in. There goes
the typical Red Sox, and the Red Sox now responding
to all of those tweets from March twenty nine. Pretty amazing,
it's amazing and a little excessive. But the Red Sox

(02:03:51):
fan like, you win eighties, six years of that winning.
Now you've won four in the last what fourteen years?
Sixteen years or something. I take a breath, enjoy it,
enjoy it. I couldn't feel bad here for all those
long suffering, um, really really content, wonderful Red Sox fans.
The odds to win the twenty nineteen World Series are out.
Bravado is saying that the Red Sox and Astros are
seven to one favorites, with the Dodgers and Yankees as

(02:04:14):
eight to one favorites. I don't like co favorites. That's
that's like Kevin co best he's my best friend, and
he's my best friend. It's singular favorite should be singular.
Give me what Vegas pick a winner, don't hedge that
you get out there and pressed that the press. Monday
Night Football, Dan Buyer, who do you like? It's a

(02:04:36):
four teen point line from Patriots and all those points?
What about you there? Ryan? Dan's always right, So I'll
go with the Patriots. What about you there? Yeah, I'll
take the Patriots. I'm gonna take the Bills and the
point that's fourteen points. I think the about Bills defense
is not not not terrible, offense is pretty terrible. But
they're playing at home, retiring Thurman Thomas's number. Take the

Bills to cover the spread. Back tomorrow The Dug oot
