You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom, What of America
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I will tell you this, um,
My wife, kids and I we miss fall like real
fall Connecticut fall twelve of the the last sixteen years of
(00:44):
my life. I spent uh in the Nutmeg State. But um,
you know it's better than cool crisp air of fall.
Seventy degrees during the day, fifty at night. It's about
eighty degrees yesterday. What's believable? Oh man, Welcome in to
the Doug gott Leaves Show. By the way, if you
(01:05):
want to download the All Ball Podcast, some great stuff
on it. This week Keith Smith joined me. He does
the Celtics Blog and my boy m d Clinton Darn McClinton,
who has his own podcast. He's a personal trainer, coaches
AU team's former pro Ballplayer in the d m V
given the lowdown on on the DC area. We talked
(01:26):
some hoops. It's the All Ball Podcast and we have
a loaded, loaded, loaded show for you. Let's start with
last night. Do we have the tape? Ye On yesterday's
Picks of the Games? Ryan Music was doing um a
celebratory dance last night as the Raiders got pummeled by
the forty Niners. Full disclosure, I truly believe and I
(01:52):
have not heard the tape yet. I truly believe that
I was picking the Niners. The spread in spite of
the fact that an unknown, untested order back was starting
for the forty Niners, because of I mean, everything I've
seen from the Raiders and trade away Amari Cooper, and
the fact that I know they would prefer to lose
as opposed to win. I thought I was picking the Niners.
Take a listen end of the show yesterday we made
(02:14):
our picks here. It was what about you there, Ryan Music.
I love the forty Niners. Tonight give me the Niners.
I'm gonna go with Raiders. Wow, that was edited. Is
that what you guys did to me? I have no
idea what you're talking about. Doug what wait wait, wait
what you guys just completely cheated a good edit, ram Ramos,
(02:38):
how are you going? And if you guys don't know,
John Ramos is a very very well respected technical director,
not just for Fox Sports Radio but in the entire
radio world. That's the best bad editing you could do.
I have. Uh No, I did not touch anything on
their personally, John, John, John, you did not touch anything personally?
(03:05):
Is that is? That? Is? That? Is that? Originally how
it sounded, John that the pregnant pause is all I need?
Thank you? And look, I understand that in the moment,
it feels awful in the moment, John Gruden seems like
(03:26):
an idiot. In the moment, you can declare the ten year,
one hundred million dollar contract to seem like the dumbest
contract in the history of sports. By the way, the Raiders,
of course n'm diaspy sixteen million a year completely changed
the course of history. That's what made Durrell Reaves have
to get paid so much and ultimately led to him
(03:46):
uh going to Tampa and then to New England and
back to the Jets. It wouldn't be the first bad
contract they've ever handed out, but the fact is that
this is one of the reasons he had to be
paid for ten years and a hundred million dollars. If
you're going to go through tanking, truly shedding any sort
(04:11):
of viable asset and all the viable contracts for the future,
since you have cap space and draft picks, you're gonna
take a beating like why would they give him? This
is why, you idiots, He's doing it for a reason. Well,
(04:32):
you know it doesn't work. Who's undefeated in the n
B A Dan buyer will tell you it's is Milwaukee Bucks.
Go back and look at what the they lost last night,
but they were the last undefeated team in the NBA.
Why because they got you honest, they shed salary, cap space,
they got draft picks, they loaded up on talent, and
(04:55):
I don't think they're the best team in the East,
but they've gotten a lot better. You know who preceded
them in tanking. That would be the Boston Celtics. The
Philadelphia seventies weren't the first ones to trust the process.
We've seen this before. The the Houston Astros did a
two thousand thirteen. They were talking about, well, this is
what a joke. It's bad for baseball. They're not competitive.
(05:19):
This trying to be bad thing is stupid. Didn't they
win the World Series last year? Like I alright, fine,
you need business Marvel comics. Have you seen a Marvel
movie this year? The question isn't having Have you seen
a Marvel movie? Have you seen a movie that wasn't
a Marvel movie this year? Right? Um? And so you
(05:43):
look at Mark. Did you know Marvel declared bankruptcy in
the mid nineties. Did you know Apple nearly declared bankruptcy?
Donald Trump, of course, was pointed out when he was
on the campaign trail, declared bankruptcy for different times with
his company, whether it's Chapter eleven or whether it's tanking.
(06:06):
This is a business practice that has been proven to work.
And the only thing more proven than the idea of
the process of tanking is that during the time in
which you hit rock bottom, everyone's gonna be pointing at
the finger at the person who's leading the ship down,
(06:27):
knowing they're gonna lead the ship back up. Here's Jon
Gruden before the game. It was a great interview with
Howie Long in the NFL on on Fox. Here's a
Gruden said before the game, I got a cell phone
just like you and everybody else. And I get a
lot of phone calls from people that are dying to
come and play here. I'm just telling you they're dying
to play for the raid is and to have salary
(06:49):
cap space, and to have a chance to talk to
the people that you really want to wear the silver
and black, the guys, you really want to wear the
silver and black and represent this team. That's exciting, he
hears Growden after the game. I'm just trying to get
people excited about the Oakland Raiders. The Oakland Raiders is
a great organization, and I know it's not looking pretty
right now, but I've heard a lot of negativity, you know,
(07:12):
over the last six or seven months, and rightfully so.
We're gonna build a championship football team here and I
know a lot of people, as players, as fans, and
you know, just in general want to be a part
of this. There's a line from The Usual Suspects. I'm
I'm a I'm a huge Usual Suspects fan one of
I don't know if you go top five, I think probably,
(07:34):
uh top five. The only issue with the Usual Suspects is,
I think the first time you see it, the ending
makes you want to see it the second time, and
maybe there's a third time in it. I'm not sure
if it's as easy to repeat like the sixth sense.
You know, once you know about the end of the
sixth cents, you go back and you watch the movie
one more time, and then you're kind of tapped out.
(07:57):
Jon Gruden's has convinced Pep Bowl the entire time he's
had this job that he wants to compete to win,
and not just compete to win, to compete to win. Now,
that's really what's an issue. It's not that they're tanking,
because they're doing so inglorious fashion a right. They have
five first round picks over the next two years and
(08:18):
at least seventy million dollars in calf space in the
coming season as genius. That is brilliant, That is beautiful.
The differences, he's convinced you that he's not tanking, which
reminds me of this line. The greatest trick the Devil
ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. The
greatest trick that John Gruden ever pulled was convincing you
(08:41):
that he was trying to win. Now, when everything else
he's doing it's not what he's saying, it's what he's doing. No, no, No,
we want to win now. We want to win championships.
We want to win this year. Yeah, but John, you
just trade away your two best assets for first round trafficks.
Now we want to win now. Yea, but John, you
have seventy million dollars in cow space in the coming year. No,
(09:02):
we want to win now, John, you have a tenure contract.
What would be the Russian winning? Now? We want to
win now. The most amazing thing Gruden has done is
convinced you he's not tanking when he's clearly tanking and
doing a fantastic job at it. And oh yeah, by
the way, while some of you look at and go
team quit on him and it's great. The only way
(09:25):
to truly find out who he wants to have where
silver and black is if you've got nothing to play
for except for pride itself and your own future, and
you're not wanting to compete. I don't really want you.
If you during this time of adversity, he can figure
out what's what, who's who, and who he wants to
go to war with. He's artificially created all of this
(09:47):
adversity to where they get, you know, in which they
get completely eviscerated last night by a quarterback who no
one could pick out of a line. Hell, how great
is the story he is? Twitter account wasn't verified before
last night. I don't know how many UM followers you
(10:09):
have to have to have your Twitter account verified? Do
we do? We know the stat on that, do we
know how that actually works? But Nick Mullins went from
I've never actually heard of Nick Mullins. If you tell
me he's in the NFL, fine too. Oh my god,
Nickmullins might be a starting quarterback in the end abow
he's wanting Brett Farve's number. Brett Farve calls him. Twitter
account gets verified, people are talking about baby Jimmy Grompolo
(10:32):
doesn't have to come back with what C. J. Pether did.
Look what Nick Mullins did. That's how And you think
it's that type of embarrassment, Either you get up and
show you still want to play, or you quit. And
the dudes that quit he's gonna be done with at
the end of the year, and the guys that don't
are still gonna wear the Radar uniform. That's what we
(10:54):
said about him. Losing the locker room last week. The reports.
People are ticked, right, are you getting rid of Mark Cooper?
You're trying to lose down. Let's see how you handle it.
I know how you're gonna handle success. Everybody handles success great.
It's it's really we're winning and everything's good. Is when
(11:15):
we're losing, who's pointing fingers, who's quitting on roots? When
you're down thirty four to three, who's still playing hard?
Those are the guys who will remain. He's created this
artificial environment of angst against coaches and front office and
fans and even each other, and the strongest will in
(11:38):
fact survive, and those are the guys he'll take with him.
But John Gruens convinced you because he said over and
over again that they're not tanking, and because you believe that, No, no,
no guy who loves football whatever, try and lose a game,
and try and I have to try and lose a game.
You get rid of enough good players, and you're not
that good to begin with, You're gonna lose football games.
(11:59):
You play enough young guys, you're gonna lose football games.
And so you don't like it, Okay, Marvel Comics what
they do. You know, they were all about comic books.
They declared bankruptcy. They started focusing on movies. There is
(12:22):
no more powerful name in Hollywood than Marvel Comics. Right now.
Think about Apple. They were almost declared bankruptcy. Microsoft bailed
them out because Microsoft was worried that they would be
considered a monopoly if Apple went under. So what Apple
(12:43):
do They changed? They diversified. They went to this thing
called the iPod, which became the iPhone, which is revolutionized smartphones.
And you tell me a room that doesn't have an
Apple logo on it. Oh. Yeah. By the way, they
brought back Steve Jobs, who had won for them in
(13:04):
the past, just the same way the Raiders had with
John Gruden. Last time the Raiders were good. Last time
the Raiders were relevant. Guess who is in charge? So
I understand it feels really icky. It feels like a
like this is a disaster. This is yeah, intentionally so
intentionally so. Former NFL scout John Mitelkoff joins the show.
(13:28):
If you listen to his three Now podcast, which is
great downloaded the HERD podcast network. He crushes Gruden, But
isn't that part of Gruden's plan we'll ask him. Plus
we'll get ready for the Packers taken on the Patriots.
And here's what's funny about it. Packers Patriots is so sexy.
(13:48):
No one's talking about Steelers Ravens and some trash talk
that went the way of the Steelers from Joe Flacco.
That's right, Joe Flacco bulletin woar material. How does that
play out? That's all coming up next. But first, you know,
it's not smart right now, It's not smart to bet
on the Raiders. That's that's not smart. They're trying to
lose games, they don't have much talent, and people are
(14:08):
trying to rub Gruden's nose in it. That's not smart. Um.
Also also not smart to do what I did, which
is be okay with a elementary school fundraiser on Saturday
night when you might miss part of Alabama versus l
s U. These things are not smart. You know what
is smart? Going to zip recruiter dot com slash dog

work in front office in the National Football League now
is basically your your sage guide into the National Football League.
Here on the Doug gott Leap Show, my take is this,
(15:59):
I realized didn't do a good job in the draft
this year, but I didn't think the Raiders were gonna
win the a f C West this year. And Gruden
took the big contract one because that's the only way
to get him out of TV. But too, it's the
only way to survive tanking. And when you step back
and not look at it as John Gruden and say, hey,
seventy million dollars in cap space with five first rounders
(16:22):
over the next two years, it's glorious the tanking they're
pulling off, and maybe even more surprising how people don't
realize they're tanking. What's your take, Well, here here's the thing, Doug.
In basketball, you can tank because you can really control
it with the personnel. In football, Gruden has attempted to
do that kind of similarly this year. I think the
(16:44):
things I would question is no player in football, especially
Derek Carr, is trying to lose these games, and coaches
on game day like he's calling these games attempting to win.
He tried to win that game sniped. He did not
try to lose to Nick Mullins, a third string quarterback.
(17:04):
And I think the other big red flag is one
I don't think any team in the league would have
trade to clear back beside John Gruten Marii Cooper wants
not crazy, and you gotta give him credit. That's good value.
The problem is his resume as a draft picker, you know,
as the general manager, is not good. So you go, yeah,
he's got five picks, which is by far the most
(17:26):
amount of first rounders over these next two years any
one team has. It's just who's the guy picking the players?
Because Grumen has proven I actually think he can be
a good offensive coach if you get him, if he
gets better players. But who's gonna get him the better players?
Because he struggles at that element of the job, and
that when you pay a guy a hundred million dollars,
he's in control, he's gonna be picking these players. That
(17:48):
that would be my big question mark. It's a fair
question mark. What about Nick Mullins? How much of this
is the Raiders are bad and they quit how much
of it is Kyle Shanahan's a wizard, and how much
of it is Hey, you know what, maybe the kid
who threw for four thousand yards during his junior year
can actually play. I think of the combination of all
those things. I think the Raiders defensively are I saw
(18:10):
a tweet this morning statistically giving up the most yards
poor play in the history of the league. So I
mean that they're bad. I think to Kyle now in
a year and a half has one NFL games with
three quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo, you'd say, well, most coaches could
win a game, true, c J. Bethard. No, he's won
multiple games with c J. Bethard. That's decently impressive. But
(18:30):
to win a game with your third string quarterback, I
give you some credit. A guy that not only had
never thrown an NFL pass, he'd never taken the NFL snap.
Cool moment last night with Aaron Andrews with Farv on
the set calling in. That's just third drink, you know, Doug.
They just don't win many games. One they don't ever play,
and two when they do play, they look unserviceable. They
(18:54):
look like you can't even function as an offense again
playing a terrible defense, but a short week basically getting
becoming a game time decision or finding out you know,
the night before. That's I give Kyle and I give Nick,
who I was texting with a guy in the front office.
They're like, God, he works really hard. Clearly you know
he had prepared for the opportunity. But usually opportunities with
(19:17):
backup quarterbacks do not go that well. No, they go
about like they've gone for the Buffalo Bills for Derrick Anderson. Right,
that's that's more part for the course. The Buffalo Bills.
Someone told me earlier day they're on pace for six
throwing touchdowns for the entire season. Six. Nick Mullins last
night again playing the Raiders three touchdowns. So you name
(19:41):
me how many coaches in in NFL history have won
a game with their third string guy. We've seen a
lot of guys win games are back up, but third
spring or they just don't ever play. And again when
they play, they look atrocious, Like there is no to me,
there's no comparison. Kyle Shanahan is in a different world
as coached and John Gruden, which back to the Raiders
(20:02):
is a problem because you're in this for ten years.
He Gruden has all the juice. He's already traded good players,
Like like, I know Kyle can work with players. I
do question Doug. Can John work with the modern player?
I mean, we just saw what he said with Howie
Long about how players are lined up to come to
(20:24):
the Raiders, And then he was asked after the game, like,
don't you feel that affected your team? You know these
guys that just basically just quit on you hearing you
say that, and he claimed no. To me, he's almost
feels collegiate, like he's more suited for college. Like in
the NFL, you don't need to sell yourself money. The
Raiders have a ton of cap space. You just pay guys,
they show up, they'll play for you. Gruden's almost I
(20:47):
don't know, it feels like he's becoming a charactertur of himself.
Oh now that part, there's no question, right. That's what
happens when you're on TV is you fail to see
where the TV character there. There's there's one fame, really
really famous broadcaster who you know, like the real guy
I really really liked, but he ceased to be the
(21:07):
real guy. He became the TV person, and that one
was hard. And I think Gruden's a little bit like that.
You know, people like, oh, I love the chucky thing,
and you you kind of become a caricature of the
person that used to excite John. Do you do you
think he's a good coach like I do think I
think he's a good football guy. Um, I think that.
Do I think this was ultimately like the perfect plan? No,
(21:29):
But I also think that as it became more and
more obvious, they didn't have the cash. I think they
Here's what I actually know is they didn't properly prepare
for how much Khalil mac would be worth, or thought
he would be worth, and so they overspent on the
free agent market in the short terms so that they
were cash strapped. And then when they realized that he
(21:50):
wasn't bluffing and it wasn't gonna end well, they said, well,
we get two first round picks, and they didn't think
anybody would give him to first round picks, and they
got him, and so they moved on and moved into
this all right, Look, we weren't really good even when
we made the playoffs two years ago. The division was
down and we went for it on fourth down and
went for two a bunch and got it. But in
order to get really good, this is the way we
(22:11):
need to do it. So I think he's a good
football guy. Do I think he drafted well? No? Do
I think he signed great free agents? No? Um, But
but a little bit of it is a numbers game, right,
Even the best guys can miss on people, and eventually
and and eventually you get it. Right. Let me let's
let's go around the league here. So Hugh Jackson goes
(22:33):
on First Take today and backing up some of his
comments to Mary Kake Cabot yesterday, essentially says, hey, look,
I never got a chance to run my offense because
our players aren't any good, right, They weren't the guys
that I that I wanted. Hugh Jackson, you know, throwing
previous and current personnel guys kind of under the bus
and taking not a lot of accountability in terms of
(22:55):
his failures as a head coach. Does he actually have
a point? I mean, it's sure doesn't feel like it
because at the time here there are previous comments that
he made saying, you know, I liked Wents, I just
didn't think he was worth the number two pick. And
again it's hard to totally tell unless you truly know Hugh,
and even people to know you kind of say that
(23:16):
he talks out of both sides of his mouth. That
was he just trying to be a good company guy.
Did he truly believe in the process. Did he get
screwed a little bit with the way that Sashi and
the tanking happened for sure? Did it turn out that
Hugh is really over his head as a head coach?
One hundred percent. I think it's a combination of both things.
But I do think that him going on this rant
(23:38):
now trying to make it look like, Hugh, you were
given now three years and this year's team, like you
lost to the Raiders when when you were kicking there,
but like they came back and beat you, And I
can't no coach in like probably an NFL history, I
think he statistically has the second worst losing percentage ever,
(23:58):
Like Q, you you should not have lost this many
games the the year they went I think it was
two years ago when they won one game. I somehow
that year ended up watching a lot of Browns games.
They easily shouldn't have been a five or six win team. Again, no, no,
one thinks you're a playoff guy, Hugh, Right, Hey, this
this year, they should have won four or five games,
oh easily. Like part part of the reasons you you're
(24:20):
tying these games is on you, Like if you just
are a little more buttoned up. I had always heard
around the office they're just very discombobulated. They're they're not
very deep. He's not a detail oriented guy. You know,
this year is pretty you know, proven he's an offensive guy,
but they had to bring in an offensive coordinator. But
we have, in fairness to Hugh, the one year that
he was with he had Andy Dalton role in that
(24:42):
Cincinnati you know team looked excellent on offense. It's not
like their head coach, Marvin Lewis is a defensive guy.
So that was all Hugh. So everyone's like, oh, maybe
he's really good, but it's proven that he's not. You
know that that year might have been more of an
anomaly than he was some excellent coach. And he's also
a pretty big me me guy, throw you under the
bus guy, which you know in football you gotta be.
(25:04):
And that's why back I'm not trying to keep this
on Gruden, but Gruden's kind of got a little bit
of that. As a head coach, you gotta just always
take the arrows, even though when you know you're not
in the wrong. It's just part of the job. That's
why you make all that money. It's the team dynamics,
and I just think certain guys really struggle at it.
You know. It's it's interesting, and here's McVeigh who has
been given so much credit for turning around the Rams.
(25:27):
You listen to him post game and it's completely about
the players, you know. I I listen to in post game.
I got in my car, was driving around after watching
the game, went out to get a cup of coffee,
and I'm listening to in postgame locally in Los Angeles,
and always says, you know, our offense wasn't and that's
on me. I put us in some bad situations. I
made some terrible calls. You know. Luckily, you know guys
(25:48):
like Todd and look at the defense. He started naming
guys who made big plays, and it's it's really it
doesn't mean you have to you have to appear to
be sincere, even if you're like, actually we kind of
made some Yeah, it goes a long way, even if
you're lying Andy Reid is the best at it same way,
and he never talks about himself. He always talks about
other guys, even when that guy probably doesn't deserve as
(26:10):
much credits he's gonna give him. But you know these
young players that they read the they see it on Twitter,
they know that means a lot too. When the when
an assistant coach gets a little credit, when a backup
linebacker gets a little credit in the press conference. Even
things that you know I take for granted this is
an innocuus coach comment means something to the quarterback coach,
or means something to the nickel corner and the coaches
(26:33):
even when you lose, like you kind of go over
the top of like taking on all the blame on
yourself and given it to the other guy, really impacts
guys that are in their mid twenties or a coach that's,
you know, trying to be on the come up. And
I think that's McVeigh has been excellent at that. I've
watched every press conference Kyle Shanahan gives and they have
not won many games clearly this year, and he's been
(26:53):
really good at it. These younger coaches, sometimes you would
think can be overwhelmed by the pressure of it. Actually
feel almost more better suited in this day and age. Um. Also,
here's a comment he made John Midelkoff, our guest Do
Gotlip show, Fox Sports Radio, John's former scout in the NFL.
Download his Three and Out podcast. He said this in
regards to Baker Mayfield. I think you have to do
(27:15):
everything you can to make him successful. I think you
have to go back to Oklahoma, um and um and
see what what they did, uh, and use all the
concepts that made him the number one, number one pick
in the draft. That's what's gonna make him the best
version of him. I will, I will, I will say
that's exactly what essentially what a GM told me is that, look,
(27:38):
when he's in Oklahoma, they designed a system where he
could be successful, and they had better personnel than than
most of the teams they played. And that's and he
had complete grasp of all their concepts. Like, Baker's good,
but there's there's a ceiling there that's a little bit
lower because you gotta put him in specific that that though,
feels to most people like a shot at Baker. What's
(27:58):
your reaction, Yeah, I mean it is. It was a
bold pick at number one overall. I think anyone I
know you watch that conference and that team play a lot.
I mean, he Baker was a bowler in college and
he deserved me to be a first round pick. But
when you take a guy number one overall, you think
he can be a star, I mean, a consistent pro
bowler at his hype now he is really accurate. He's
(28:22):
not a great athlete. Uh, he did benefit. He played
in arguably the most stable football power in the country.
And they even had a coaching turnover and didn't even
feel that weird. It was like they just hit the
ground run with Lincoln Riley, and like you said, they
playing a loaded team. Think about this year, and I'm
gonna give Baker somewhat of a past this season because
I don't think he's played very well the last three
(28:43):
or four weeks. When in NFL history has a rookie
starting quarterback that was a high first round pick had
his head coach and his offensive coordinator fired on the
same day, I meant, did that well when two years
ago when they fired Jeff Fisher. But but Jeff Fisher
(29:05):
is more of a defensive guy, like you know. But
then they fired didn't they fired the offensive coordinator as well.
I'm trying to trying to think, I mean that that
offense was a joke. It was so that it might
have Jared Jeared Jeared Goss. I believe his rookie year
offense was like, hey, you guys, go out and get open,
go along. Okay, So the Rams might actually might have
done it. But that's a good example of you almost
(29:26):
just have to give the guy a pass. And I
think that's why this offseason is gonna be like, I mean,
I don't know where you stand on this. I think
Lincoln Riley wouldn't even waste the time interviewing with the Browns.
How would he leave Oklahoma to go to the Browns?
Here's here's here's the question I have, John, that you're
taking on the Chiefs. You go one of two ways.
They're they're good running team, and they've shown themselves to
(29:46):
be a good running team this year. Um. I kind
of feel though, no offensive coordinator, no head coach, did
they go bowl game offense right where you're like, dude,
just bet the over because they're gonna go out and
sling it? Isn't that what they do to that? This
weekends the Chiefs. Yeah, I just think the Chiefs is
just so much better. But you never I'm not saying
they win the game, but I'm just saying in terms
(30:07):
of style wise, one of two things. Like the way
to beat the Chiefs is probably to keep him off
the field to run the football long drives. But considering
the coaching change and some of the questions about Baker
and whatever, and the limitations of the previous offense, like
they're like, hell with it, who cares, Let's go oop
to you, right, let's four on one side, one on
the other, and let's go. Yeah. I mean that's clearly
(30:30):
Baker is comfortable with right, like what you said in Oklahoma. Yeah,
I don't hate it. Why not? You have nothing to lose.
You also have a coach in Greg Williams whose egos
as big as any coach in like NFL history. Why
why not? I mean, he wants this job. He does,
he wants to keep it, stay ab a head coach
this he would get a lot of credit if somehow
they beat the right, if they beat the Chiefs, like
(30:51):
like you said, they just throw it around the yard
and win thirty seven to thirty two or something. He
would get he would get a ton of positive pub
I just don't. I mean this kitchen. This guy is
never called plays in his life. I know the problem.
The other problem is if you don't have like the
Baker concepts installed, you know, already in your offense a
(31:11):
big part of it, it it would be hard just to
kind of do it in a short week when all
these coaches got fired. So it could go the other way.
You could attempt to do it and it could look
even worse. All Right, I got a bunch of quick ones, alright,
Steelers Ravens. Ravens go and beat him, and Joe Flacco
was like, dude, I thought it could have been a
lot worse. I didn't. I missed on a bunch of throws.
This one's in Baltimore. Ravens in a bad spot of
(31:31):
for losing to in a row when Justin Justin Tucker
missing the kick two weeks ago. Who do you like?
I like the Steelers. I mean, I think John Harbaugh,
I mean TikTok, and this thing's about to add for
him in Baltimore. I just don't think the Ravens. Something
is just off about them. And I liked them early
in the season. Be watching the last couple of weeks.
I mean, they just got their butt kicked. I think
the Steelers are now rolling. I just the Steelers lost
(31:53):
to him earlier in the season on that Sunday night game.
Like you said, I think they, like the Steelers just
start rolling off wins Peak. They seem to have found
some more no name guys that can play against the
Chargers who no one really wants to buy into, even
though we should buy into them, and they still don't
have Joey Bosa. Can the Chargers go in front of
the Twelfth Man and gonna win? I think they can.
I mean, I I am a believer this year in
(32:14):
the Chargers, but for some reason, I kind of like
Pete Man. He's got this team just playing hard. Russell's
playing well. That place a couple of weeks ago, I
mean when the Rams went in there was rocking, kind
of old school twelve Yeah. Yeah, that to me is
easily the best loss of the season for any team.
That was really impressive. I think they take this game released.
(32:35):
I think the Chargers can lose this game and I
still take them seriously. I like Seattle, all right. Packers
Patriots pick one quarterback Brady or Rogers Brady not even close,
not even clothes. I mean, for me, I I don't
hesitate making the decision. I'm not saying that Roger is
not a great all time player, but it's it's without hesitation.
Tom Brady, why, I just think he's a total package.
(32:58):
You know, it would be like you asking me over
your Duncan. I wouldn't even flinch, and I'd take Duncan.
I think there's more to the quarterback than just I
mean Rogers, he's the Dan Marino of my generation or whatever.
Now I know he's one, so he's like a combination
of Marino in Elway, but there's just something about Montana
that's just most people put him on a different level
from being a teammate from and Brady is the highest
level of just at all. And I also think that
(33:20):
when we talk about him like that, it almost discounts
how great, great of a pocket, how elite he is
as a quarterback. Where Rogers there is you know, he
can get off and do his own thing, which a
lot of times works, but he's not the easiest guy
to deal with it. Again, I like Rogers, I mean,
he's probably top five six quarterback ever, but when we
were talking about Tom awesome. Uh, incredible stuff. John Middlcoff

three out is the podcast and the Herd podcast Network.
John Lovett, keep renting on Facebook. I'll keep watching and
thanks for joining us. Doug gotta leave next head coach
of the Lakers. Probably probably, probably not, but I know
it might be a little later. John, let's get to
Dan Buyer find out what's going on. Dandy, have a
Kershaw update for me, kind of and kind of not.
(34:08):
No official deal yet, however, John Morosia, Fox Sports Jeff
Passt of Yahoo's Sports Friend of this program have all
said that a deal is close now. The deadline comes
up at the top of the hour with the Dodgers
and Clayton Kershaw to agree on what we believe will
be an extension, or, of course, Kershaw could opt out
of the final two years of his contract, but Doug
both reports saying that the sides are close to an
(34:30):
extension to keep Kershaw in Los Angeles. In the NBA,
timber Wolves car Jimmy Butler is gonna play to night
against the Warriors after sending out Wednesday's game to rest
Calves forward Kevin Love head toe surgery, and will be
reevaluated in six weeks. How about some injury news in
the NFL. Chiefs wide receiver Tyree Kill a full participant
in practice today, des By dealing with a groin injury.
(34:51):
Chargers running back Melvin Gordon questionable with a hamstring injury
to play at Seattle, but he did practice fully today.
That's a good sign for Gordon coming off of a bye.
Same sort back Alvin Camaro was ill yesterday, miss practice,
but back on the practice field today. And Vikings running
back Dalvin Cook could see some action against the Lions.
He's trying to return from a hamstring strain and is
efficiently listed as questionable. They're playing hockey and Finland Panthers

the big names, but I'm sure there's been a guy
you've either prepared for on tape or or lined up
against that you had no idea how good he was.
The Titan Kindle from Steph Frank he was. He's really good.
He kind of shock him a little bit. Can you
name all the Philip Rivers children? No, I cannot. He's
(36:17):
he's got eight. Like, that's a lot of You gotta
play a lot of football. People will be like, well
he started. If you missed anything from the Doug got

so by playing a game. Okay, this is game time
(37:05):
side on the Doug Gottlieb Show, Dan Buyer, what's the
game today? The game today, Doug is Psychic. All right,
let's look ahead, Psychic, Well, the Raiders. We're gonna look ahead, Yeah,
we are going to look at the Raiders. Will they
win another game this game this year? Sorry, I'm just
(37:26):
psychic outside about that. Oh, you nailed it. That's what
Psychic does. Well, the Raiders win another game this year.
In two weeks the Cardinals come to Oakland, and on
Christmas Eve, the Raiders host the Broncos. Yes, otherwise they've
got the Chiefs twice, Chargers, Raven Steelers, and Bengals to yep,
Psychic Sorry, alright, um, well, yes, they'll win another game
(37:51):
this year. They'll win They'll win one more game one,
just one, two and fourteen in the Raiders season. Psychic, Well,
Hugh Jackson get another head coaching job in the NFL. No, No, alright, Psychic,
how about this? Will we be a coordinator in the
NFL again? Yes? Yes, I don't know if immediately he'll
(38:15):
be a coordinator, probably a quarterbacks coach and then ultimately
work his way back to being a coordinator. But he's
a pretty well respected offensive guy. Um, and you look
around the league, and yeah, I think he will be.
Remember he didn't last more than a season with the
Raiders and then lasted two and a half years with
the Browns, and some of this the lesson is don't
take it. You can take one bad job, don't take
(38:37):
two bad jobs. But it's also maybe don't do a
bad job. I think he'll be a coordinator again, Psychic.
Will l s U be within a touchdown or less
at halftime of Saturday's game against Alabama? Yes? Yes, I
think at halftime it will be a close football game?
All right, Psychic? Well you don't think I know? You know?
Why was that? Oh? Yes, you are fourteen and a
(38:57):
half point favorites Alabama last time I check. Uh, Psychic?
What will be the second best game to watch this
weekend in college football? Outside of number one Alabama and
number four l s U Oklahoma and Texas Tech Texas Tech. Yeah, yeah,
you go down to Lubbock, they throw tortillas at you,
and uh, their defense is okay. This year they have
a freshman quarterback that can sling in. Of course, Kyler
(39:18):
Murray for Oklahoma. These are two offenses which are eerily
similar in terms of explosiveness and style. Yeah, I think
Oklahoma Texas Tech is the second best game of the weekend.
You've also got to the Big twelve West Virginia at
Texas SEC, George at Kentucky, and then the Big ten
Penn State at Michigan. The psychic. Will Luke Walton be
(39:38):
the Lakers head coach for the rest of the season.
That's because Magic Johnson apparently came back, you know, when
they came back from a two game road trip after
losing Mill again. We got we we gotta play better.
Thank you, Thank you Magic. Um I don't think he'll
be the coach to the the entirety of the season. Well,
I have more forward to the top of the other
(39:59):
All right, okay, psychic, we'll look forward to that. Psychic.
Will Clayton Kershaw play for another team in his career,
he would not play. Later on today it will be
announced Clayton Kershaw is gonna sign an new extension. They'll
rework the deal instead of him opting in to his
current deal. If it's a four year deal, does he
(40:21):
play out the four years and then it is done?
Would that be the end of his career at I
don't think he played for another baseball team. Okay, alright, psychic. Finally,
will you be checking scores or launching video on your
phone during your school function that you've got Saturday during
Alabama and l s U. I will be checking scores
and watching video and tweeting and pretending to be marginally interested.
(40:46):
Is game time on the Dug Godlap Show. And that's
just as honest as honestly I can be. If there's
some great games this weekend, Michigan takeing on Penn State
at home, we'll see the game time on The Doug
Gotlip Show. Brought to you by Discovered Card. We treat
you like you'd treat you. You treat you, um Man,
there's a lot of things I still want to, um
(41:08):
I still want to I still want to get to
That's good because we have two more hours of the show,
Doug Right, I got I got my five for five.
I got five picks NFL five picks in college as well.
The numbers have been good, even though the guys are
trying to pretend like I didn't pick the Thursday night
game right, then we'll yeah, I don't see, you won't
pick you won't You don't give me credit for those
picks on my overall numbers? How many do I have
(41:30):
to get right? I get one wrong and I take
I take a beating, I get one right, and you
guys don't give me any credit. It's it's crazy. This
is craziness. What's going on? Remember there stuff Friday night
football on on Fox Sports One, Colorado Arizona. I know,
I know, Colorado Zone. You're super excited. We'll bring back
(41:51):
to Lebron, James. Topic is, when you bring in Lebron,
you're bringing a lot of a lot of things, a
lot of attention, a lot of winds, most of them
good things, some not so good. And of course now
the sudden magic Johnson has to have a meeting with
Luke Walton. The not so good is coming. We'll discuss
(42:11):
next in the Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio, Fox

Catch all of our shows at Fox sports Radio dot

s R to listen live. What Up Doug Gottlieb Show
Fox Sports Radio. This is what happens with when Lebron
(42:34):
James comes to town. You know, in college basketball, what
do they tell you don't want You don't want a
new arena, you don't want a new president, you don't
want a new athletic director. Like, way, why does that
make any says you don't want a new arena because
a new arena raises expectations. Man, we new arena, you
(42:54):
should get better players. We got all the great facilities,
a new new flex director. Okay, you want to You
want your boss to be the same boss that hired you.
Same thing with president in the NBA, if you're a
general manager, you really want Lebron James. You want better players,
(43:15):
but especially Lebron when you're a coach, it's like, yeah,
once you get him, you don't automatically start winning. Um,
I think it stands to reason, and like, how many
coach has Lebron James been through? Even you go back
to Cleveland when he won sixty one games his final
(43:35):
year in Cleveland the first time around, Remember, they fired
Mike Brown before he'd ever and that before Lebron had
announced that he wasn't coming back to Cleveland going to Miami.
Fired him why because that the best guess was that
Lebron didn't want to play for Mike Brown. Then he
goes to Miami, and while Eric Spoelster was his coach
for the entirety of those four years, if you remember
(43:57):
back during his first year, he each challenged Spolstra's authority.
It was a story that came out about six months
ago that that in fact was real that Lebron did
go in. It was in pat Riley's new book where
he's like, look, Lebron, did you know ask me if
I thought about coming back to coach? So supposter because
(44:21):
he had the support of Ryle's end up keeping his job.
He comes back, David blats his head coach. We know
how that ended. Now, the story comes out that after
losing a couple of games, really defensive numbers aren't good,
three point shoot numbers aren't good. Maggie Johnson had a
special meeting with Luke Walton. Here's Luke Walton moments ago.
I feel like I have a great relationship with management. Yes,
(44:42):
do you feel like you have job security? I feel
like I'm coming down here to do my job and coach,
and I don't. I don't feel like I'm going into
her now. Look, do I think that Magic wants to
fire Luke Walton? I don't. But on the other hand,
this is a results based business. He did not and
(45:06):
Rob Polinka did not hire Luke Walton. Only two guys
in that building that weren't brought on by the current staff.
Remember we said new president uh in college, new new
athletic director in college. Luke Wallen's got the same thing.
Luke Wallen's got new player, star player, and he's working
for a different general manager and a different president than
(45:26):
the ones that hired him. He and Brandon Ingram the
only there like the last Mohicans. Now, is it fair
to point out that the the the Lakers are playing
at a very fast pace, that the Lakers offensive efficiency
is actually ninth in the league, and that they're kind
(45:46):
of adjusting to learn. Lebron's adjusting to learning to playing
for a new coach with a new team, and that
they're all learned that's fine, but that that doesn't mean
that that doesn't mean that that that Magic's okay with it.
They played with the fourth fastest pace in the NBA. Atlanta,
(46:09):
by the way, who got their asses kicked by Sacramento
last night, plays the fastest pace in the NBA. Their
defensive efficiency, oh not good, twenty second in the NBA.
So could this be a stern talking too sure? But
this is the kind of the progress of events like
you don't. This is like in business when guys does
something wrong, you don't get fired for the first time
(46:31):
you do something wrong. Do you get fired because we
warned you, We warned you, we warned you, and then
something came out, we fired you. That's how I feel
about this with Luke Walton. So I feel how it
works where early on it's Lebron, or maybe not Lebron,
(46:51):
it's Magic saying, look, you gotta get them playing better defense,
you gotta get figured this thing out, you gotta get
more out of brand and an or who's not playing well.
Figure out a way to get it done. As they
go and take on the Portland Trailblazers on the road,
figure out a way to close games because they almost
gave away one to Dallas. Big stretch for them because
(47:15):
and I'll tell you why it's a big stretch is
not because of the game against Portland's because the game
against Toronto. Magic Johnson wants them to look good, looks sharp,
feel good, feel sharp, feel like they have great spirit.
When Kawhi Leonard comes into their building this Sunday night,
(47:35):
but it doesn't feel like like he's gonna get fired
right now. It feels like the first in what will
be two or three warning kind of shots across the
bow before ultimately they come for yes rhyme music. Is
this strictly a results based reaction, like just on the
(47:57):
surface level of looking at the record, how they're doing defensively,
how the shooting numbers don't look good, and Magic Johnson's going,
I just need you to do better. Or do you
think that there are certain things that Magic is seeing
with the team as a result of decisions and philosophies
(48:17):
being put in place by Luke Walton, that he's going,
you are doing this, which is why we are losing
and you need to do things differently. Or is it
just like, dude, we're not playing well enough. Do better?
I think Honestly, I think that a little bit of
us is magic grandstanding. I do um, I think a
little bit of his magic grandstanding because um, you know,
(48:38):
magic probably feels like they're they're pretty close and you
could have had My big point is you could have
had this meeting and no one known about it. But
the fact that he gets leaked to Adrian war Zanowski
means that you wanted everybody to know you're having this meeting. Well,
you'll find this in this business music, where you'll have
(49:00):
somebody who who says like calls you in and we'll
say you're doing a terrible job. You know what you're
you have a lot of talent, but you could do better.
Let me kind of show you the way. And they'll
send out an email to all your superior's saying like, look,
Ryan is not doing a very good job, but you
got a lot of talent. I'm gonna work with him.
And then two weeks later he sends out an email saying, boy,
(49:20):
Ryan Music has really improved. In a month later, he'll say, like, Matt,
Ryan Music is is steadily improving. In two months later,
as a consultant, he'll say Ryan Music is the best
producer at Fox Sports Radio. Now, will you have gotten
marginally better because of his advice? Sure, but a lot
of it is he wants to be the guy that
gave you that advice. And I feel like Magic Johnson
(49:43):
wants to be that guy for Luke Walton. A right,
they win Saturday night in Portland and Magic and say,
I see I talked to him and gave him some
pieces of advice, how to do this, how to do that?
The Portland see, they'll be Toronto, say the actual day
(50:05):
to day of managing. That's actually not what Magic is,
you know, is the press conference guy is the name
that gets everybody who really matters into the boardroom. Guy.
I mean, this is one of those parts where I
think people around the league thought it has a chance
to be a disaster because Magic was a terrible coach,
(50:26):
doesn't really really know how to convey basketball. Lebron James
is constantly going for the head of whoever his first
head coaches, and Polinka and Magic didn't hire Luke Walton.
And the roster, though they have some shooters that aren't
shooting well, the roster is not made up of his
money shooters as other teams have around the league, and
(50:49):
Lebronze teams always struggle out of the gate. And oh yeah,
by the way, he's, as I've told you, thirty four
years old. He's not the same Lebron he's been in
his first year of the places. So that's actually pretty
interesting that you're talking about. You know, Magic isn't the
guy who's handling the day to day stuff. He hasn't
been that. That's not what he does in anything else,
in any other business. For Magic Johnson, how long do
(51:11):
you think he's in it for the Lakers, Because, like,
being a Lakers fan, I look at this situation and
I go, basically, they've brought in Magic and he did
what he needed to do. He landed the big fish.
He got Lebron here. And not only did he get
Lebron here, he got Lebron here for at least four years.
So now you have Lebron as your bargaining chip to say, hey, kawhi,
(51:33):
Leonard Clay Thompson, because you needed Magic Johnson to sort
of bring in Lebron, So what now do you really
need Magic for? Like that's how I see it. Um,
it'll be he'll be He'll be minimized like he was
with the Dodgers, right, Like he put on the face
for the Dodgers when they went through kind of their
rebuild mode, and then they'd hired they hired even more
(51:55):
confident people. I mean, I I think that's I think
what would be interesting is the Plinka deal. Right. Polinka
was Kobe's agent, and this is Polinka's first chance to
put together a team. And anybody who looks at this
team is like, I get it, But is that really
the way you win the NBA? Like you need more shooting?
Is that really the way you went win with with Lebron?
(52:17):
You need more shooting around to give him space to
be him? So I do I think you need Magic Johnson?
Probably not. But the problem with this is one of
the interesting parts about Magic is the problem is not
hiring Matgic Johnson. Problem is firing Magic Johnson. That's the
real problem. It's how do you how do you tell
(52:37):
Magic Hey, Like, don't don't come in on Monday, Wednesdays
and Fridays and maybe Tuesdays and Thursdays. Don't come in
those days either. Just show up to games and do
the wave is probably what they do. And that, by
the way, is why Polinka would be in more more danger.
But I I don't think we're to that point yet
where they get exposed is not knowing what they are
truly doing. I think we're right now the point where
(53:01):
the defensive numbers aren't great, and Luke's gotta fix that
in the very short term, in the very short term.
I got my picks upcoming in the show. I was
on the sideline when Kenyan Drake fumbled on the goal
line for the Dolphins in overtime against the Bears, only
for them to get another opportunity, and the first chance
(53:22):
they did, they gave it right back to Kenyan Drake,
who got him in position for the game winning field goal.
I wanted to take us through those emotions and what
it's been like to play alongside Frank Gore. I oh yeah,
by the way, does he know? Does he know when
he's gonna get Ryan Tannehill back, who's got a capsule
issue in his shoulder well as Kenyan Drake. He joins
us up coming next. Be sure to catch live editions

do have an update for you in regards to Clayton Kershaw.
He will resign with the Dodgers. So whether he opted out,
(54:32):
I mean technically had to opt out of it. Um,
let's get you to Dan Buyer. Dan's got all the
info Dan breaking news from Fox Sports. Yes, Doug. Once
the deadline was pushed back to Friday, we expected the
Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw to agree on a contract extension,
and that's what happened. Multiple reports saying it's a three
(54:53):
year extension for Kershaw valued at ninety three million dollars
that includes incentives, Kershaw have the option of opting out
of his contract. That a two years remaining worth sixty
five million dollars, so getting a little less annually, but
more with the extra year, Doug and those incentives could
make Clayton Kershaw even more money. Three year extension ninety
(55:14):
three million dollars, Clayton Kershaw staying with the Dodgers. Well,
how much more is there are in um? I don't
know about the incentives incentives it seems like a lot.
I mean like it's obviously a lot. It was two
years sixty five or right, two year sixty five, and
now it's three years ninety three, which obviously, like do
the math, he's been thirty one million dollars. I would
(55:36):
have thought they could get a fourth year and get
it around a hundred, which would would have been what
I would have thought. So interesting, there's three years, there
are no opt outs, and I believe in no trade
clause as well. So Clayton Kershaw is going to pitch
the next three years. That's a that is not exactly
a hometown discount sort of. That's one of those well,
(55:57):
like hey, you're gonna have to pay him, you know
you're gonna have to pay him thirty two and a
half million dollars over the next two years, and now
you're gonna have to pay him thirty one million dollars. Like, yeah,
it's not really that big enough, that big a discount.
No one's willing to let him go on the market.
I think that's a mistake from from the Dodgers. I
(56:19):
just do. And they're worried about hurting Clayton Kershaw's feelings.
It was a seven year deal, backloaded seven year deal.
Let him go out in the market. Somebody wants to
give him a hundred million dollars to three years. You
shake his hand and go, hey man, somebody's wanting to
give you. So I'm going to tell you I disagree
(56:41):
with that deal from a business perspective. Now, if you
want to tell me, hey, loyalty wise, like all right,
you're already paying him thirty five million dollars for the
next each and the next two years, anyway, Like do
you really need to be all that loyal? Isn't that
pretty loyal? It's not personal. It's strictly business business. It's
(57:01):
not a person business ralmos. Do you like the deal
or not like the deal? As a resident Dodger fan.
I think that as long as he understands he's not
the main guy, and that he's uh, you know, gonna
take the Walker Bueller walk down the road. Uh, then yeah,
I'm okay with it. You know who else you gonna
put in there? I mean, he's still a good picture.
(57:23):
I believe he's got the number one picture. But I
think it's a very very good picture. He's thirty one
million dollars a year a good picture. I don't know
that seems a lot. Yeah, I think it's just a
dad and and like I can understand, you know, inflation,
but um, but this one. I mean, like, look, the
(57:47):
numbers have dropped off, and I know that when you're like, well,
David Price didn't opt out, he's making he's making more money. Okay,
that doesn't make it a good deal for the Boston
Red Sox. You know, just because David Price told show
to smartly not opt out doesn't make it a good deal.
Just we should be pointed out that as of now,
(58:07):
Mike Trouts had earned the most money of anybody in
baseball next year at thirty five point eight million dollars.
So David Price right up there. Other pictures justin Verlander
up there. I still don't think those are great deals.
Let's check in with Kennyan Drake, who joins us in
the Doug Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. He's second
(58:27):
in receptions with the with the Miami Dolphins, but essentially,
you know, splitting time in the backfield with the legend
Frank Gore, and he's having a very productive season. If
you look at a per carrey basis just not as
many carries. So there's a lot of questions I have.
Kenyan Drake joins us in the Doug Gotlips Show on
Fox Sports Radio. Kenny, you you've taken a hefty amount
(58:48):
of carries in the past in the NFL, obviously splitting
time in college football. Compare and contrast your year this
year to last year in terms of how your body
feels at about the midway point, UM, I feel pretty good.
Thanks for having me on, by the way, but I
feel pretty good. Um. You know, I feel like I'm
in a good situation to where I have a really
(59:09):
good routine down So UM, that's really the most important thing.
Just finding that routine on and off the field that
kind of puts in the best position to feel. Um.
Great week the week. Um, and we actually had, you know,
coming from the short week this past Thursday, we had
a few days off, so that was much needed. Uh,
almost perfect with kind of lining up with the halfway
(59:32):
point of the season. So I'm just ready to tackle
the rest of this this the rest of the season. Wait,
are you shaving? Is that is that me shaving? Are
getting a haircut next to you? Yeah? No, I'm actually
literally sitting in the barber ture right now. Who Who's
were we're in the barberitare you gotta get? You know,
give a little shout out to who's cutting your hair? Oh?
Ye're no, shout out to Steve Langam you down here
in h Pembroke Pins, Florida. Uh, you know this is
(59:54):
a live and in color. I guess that's that. That's perfect.
So what are your instruction when you sit down? What
are the structions you give for your haircut? Oh? No,
I'm I just try to keep a nice little fade. Um.
I have a little part that goes kind of like
a school from her the left side of my head.
So that's just something that I kind of, you know,
my my little style. So you know, it's it's clean
(01:00:14):
it's it's smooth, and it's it's kind of convenient. All right.
Make sure Steve understands this is a very important national
radio show. So normally it'd be rude to be on
the phone and not be you know, catching up with
Steve so he can get the game plan on the Jets.
But in this particular case, it's super super important. So
he understands. Right, he's not giving you the stinkuy, is he? No,
he's not. Kenyan Drake joining us in the Doug Gottlip
(01:00:35):
Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um, I was, you know,
I did your Bears game and I want to get
to the game itself. But I remember going to practice
and I'm like, damn, Frank Gore is still They're still
bringing it, still runs hard, practices hard. What's it like
to you know that this is not like a retirement
parade for Frank Gore, Like he's still really really productive
(01:00:59):
and practices is really really hard. What's that like to
see an old head like like Frank Gore at this
stage in his career step still be so productive. Um,
it's really just his preparation or he's really meticulous with
how he kind of goes about his business. Every day.
He's like the first person to leave, our first person
then the last person to leave. So UM always see
(01:01:19):
him kind of just going about his business and that's
such an It kind of just put him out. Is
why he's been in the league for so long because
he he definitely take care of his body and UM
has a routine that he kind of followed his day
in the day out. UM, if there's anything I learned
from him, and that's definitely something that I conduct. UM,
I understand that is definitely. Ah. I guess uh a
(01:01:43):
week within the season, every every week because you gotta
make sure you know, you understand the game plan and
you understand your body going to game. There's been a
ton of discussion about Ryan's injury. Apparently the team released
today that it's some capsule injury and that they expecting
back soon. What about for you guys in the offense.
I know how much Brock knows the offense for his
time from his time spent with Gaze, but the idea
(01:02:06):
of you know, you guys didn't know even the day
of the game, I think that that Ryan wasn't gonna play.
And there's still been some questions about when when he
would come back. How difficult has that been the last
couple of weeks in terms of not truly knowing who
your quarterback would be? Um, well, I mean it's just
really understanding, you know, the next man mentality. Brock has
(01:02:27):
been in this position before where he's had to lead
a team, UM and numerous teams, and UM he's done
a great job coming in and filling in for Ron
and that was in that capacity. So UM, as a
weeks kind of go on, he's getting more and more
confidence and UM, the players around him, UM are getting
more and more used to having more confident than his
abilities and his UM. You know, intendn't have to go
(01:02:49):
out there and lead us, so UM, you know we're
just you know, obviously patiently waiting for Rhyna. Um, you know,
get healthy as possible so he can, you know, continue
to lead us the way he has. But UM, well,
so feel like Brock is definitely doing a great job
with are the offense and the rest of the team
in general. Keadian Drake joining us in the Doug Gotlip
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Dolphins Welcome in the Jets.
(01:03:09):
That's a one o'clock East Coast uh kickoff. He joins
us here on Fox Sports Radio. Take me back to
that Bears game. You guys are about to win in overtime.
Frank carries the ball on first I think first and
second down, maybe it was he got the first down.
Then on first down he carries the ball again and
you get it and you actually made a great move
(01:03:30):
to get into the end zone and the ball gets
poked out. You go from we're gonna win the game
to the ball laying on the field and ultimately the
Bears recover it. Uh they come down miss a field goal. Now, now,
Brock told you there. He said something to you right, Yeah,
him and along with a couple of the teammateson you know,
trying to go saw me on a lot. Obviously in
(01:03:52):
that situation, it's, um, you know, nobody's perfect. My team
mays understand that, you know, anybody that's played again and
football understands that. You know, mistakes happened, but in such
a critical moment. It was definitely devastating for myself and
my teammates. But they wanted to, um, you know, do
all their care to you know, lift me up, you know,
because in any getting situation, which what happened, you know
(01:04:15):
with parking, going out there and missing the field. Go um,
you know, we had a second chance to go out
there and you know, I had we had a we
had a mission to complete and then brock off obviously
to your aforementioned comments. He uh came to me before
right before Parking took the kick and was like, you know,
we you know, we still need you know, Mrs field goal.
(01:04:35):
You know I need you to have that. That's way
to go out there like the rest of the game
and you know, kind of good business and you know,
behold and I was. I was able to carry the
boat the first couple of times I had a catch
that was gonna put us in field goal for lannge
and you know it was you know, it happened that
when I was posed to and I was glad, you know,
I had the people around me to you know, keep
(01:04:56):
me up in the game too. From when I got
in the situation and I was able to take a jump.
Kenyan Drake joining us in the Doug Gottlieb show Fox
Sport Trader, this isn't the first time you've seen adversity, right,
and you're in Alabama, there's you know, you guys had
a whole bunch of pros in the backfield with you.
So it's it's something that as much as you thought
I'd get to the NFL, I get my backfield to
myself and even that, but it's something you've been through.
(01:05:16):
Um Obama L s U this weekend. L s U
toughest place you ever played on the road. Um for sure,
one of the toughest places along with Tea van Now
um many other SEC team in general. Honestly because we
always you know, we always got any team's best best shot,
especially from their fans. So L s U definitely one
(01:05:38):
of those places. I only played there my freshman year
when we had that situation with t j Yo didn't
getting the the the screen took from agent the Canada
lass like one of the last few players in the game.
So that was definitely one of my you know, favorite
moments being an Alabama football player, especially playing against l
s U. So I look forward to you know what
(01:05:59):
the boys got going this weekend? Yeah, now, look you
get you get a full weekend though you got this
deal with the SLS. Don't you hide beach of the
sl S where you're raising money to help with raise
awareness and funds for children with Clefts, the Kenyan Drake,
Miami Dolphins running back Smile Training ambassador. So you've been
doing that, like you gotta be doing this, raising money,
shaking hands, kissing babies, and raising money for an incredible cause. Meanwhile,
(01:06:21):
three thirty Eastern time, you boys are playing l s U. Well, no, wait,
the game's late. That's right. The game is late, eight
o'clock at night, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's it's a
it's a it's a night game. They always try to
play us in the night game. I guess it's supposed
to be some added you know, extra benefits for them,
but you know, the game is always one in between
the in between the line, so I don't you know,
it never really mattered what time the game was, but
(01:06:43):
I guess prime time will you know, give you know,
people a better view of the game in general, and
I just look forward to it. But definitely the Smile Train, Um,
I'm a Smile Train ambassador. Uh. And this weekend we
have we have to uh we know we're going to
Miami and obviously is a Saturday before the game, so
(01:07:03):
it's not you know, I couldn't allocate a lot of
time to the calls, but you know, I heard they
were in town and I wanted to at least show
face because you know, it's it's it's in my city
and I wanted to, um, you know, bring continue to
bring awareness in any way possible. It's great stuff as well.
Then of course you got the Jets on on Sunday.
Um feels I don't want to say must win, but boy,
(01:07:25):
another home game after you know, you beat the Bears,
then you lose two lions, it feels like one you
really want to win. Um with the Packers and the
Colts and then the Patriots and Vikings still upcoming. What's
your sense around the facility in terms of the importance
of this game. Um, it's a it's a very im
(01:07:45):
poortant game because it's the next one in our eyes.
And um, you know, no matter the opponent, a matter situation,
obviously with it being the Jets at home, a rivalry game, UM,
it's gonna be a little added you know, bonus to
go out there. And you know how I've been because
they they know us. We played him twice a year
and you know, there's nothing we can really you know,
(01:08:06):
hide from a game playing stepoint because they see us.
I'm all the time. But um with it being like
I said, the next game at home in front of
our home proud of the last game we had at
home to Detroit. Um, and again we felt like we
left a lot of the sales. So it's definitely our
time to kind of go out there. Uh, second half
of the season, right the ship and you know, start
on one and on once again. All right, if you're
(01:08:27):
down to South Florida, check out our guy. Uh Kenyan
Drake will be at Hide Beach at the SLS Hotel
that's on Collins Avenue in Miami tomorrow twelve to twelve,
like noon to five pm. Uh. And it's for a
great cause for the Smile train that's in town. Meanwhile,
tell Steve to cut you up clean. I'm sure he's
probably gonna ask for some tickets out of the deal. Uh.
(01:08:47):
And it does a great stadium. But don't screw it
up because we're all gonna be judging his his handywork tomorrow.
You score a touchdown, take off your helmet. If he's
screwed up that swoosh on your part, we're all gonna know. No.
For so, I always look at my boy up man.
He always does a great job for me. You know,
it's definitely, uh something I appreciate for him, and I
appreciate you understanding the situation I was in, because yeah,
(01:09:09):
I ended up I ended up being in the chair
and I was like, wait, I gotta you're good, you
got you got life. It's a cell phone, portable phone, right, Hey, hey,
one more before we go. You gotta get a roll tie,
don't you? Oh yeah, road I rode always. Thanks. Can
you appreciate it? Kenyan Drake Jonius on the Doug got
Leap Show. Let's let's get you to Dan Buyer. Dan,
(01:09:30):
you can be watching L s U. Bama. You got
the early show on Sunday morning. That's afternoon here. Yeah,
five o'clock kick off for us locally in Los Angeles
for that Bama L. S U game. I will definitely
be watching fun guys play early. They play at Nebraska
at like nine o'clock. So yeah, do that. Get a
little yard work done in between, Doug you know falls here,
(01:09:53):
so you've got to clean up the leaves and stuff
and then sit back for some Bama and L s U.
On Saturday. Not too shabby, huh Right, it's a great day,
like that's I love it. I love I actually liked
East Coast eight o'clock starts, like I like Sunday night football.
Just get a whole day. And now if you say
(01:10:14):
I said this, um, I think it was the day
you were off. Think about if you sit down on
your couch to watch that game, you sit down your
couch to watch that game and say it's five o'clock
or whatever, and then you watched like pack twelve after dark.
Then the next day, look at the games that you
have Steelers, Ravens, Rams, Saints into Patriots, Packers, Like, you
(01:10:35):
may never leave your couch. You may actually get bed
source from not leaving your couch. Yeah, it's a really
good weekend for football for short Seahawks and Chargers should
be an interesting one as well. Keeping my eye on
that you've got. Yeah, yeah, just a bunch of good
football all the way through. We mentioned the other big games. Um,
A big deal in baseball, we had the breaking news
about fifteen minutes ago Clayton Kershaw is gonna be back
(01:10:56):
with the Dodgers. Getta get three year extension with the
team or ninety three million dollars so he's not opting
out of the final two years of his contract that
was worth sixty five millions of Clayton Kershaw back in
l A on a three year deal averaging about thirty
one million dollars per season. The Cubs did pick up
the twenty million dollar option on the contract of Picture
Cole Hamill's will in ESPN reports is the Indians are
(01:11:16):
willing to trade some veterans, including Picture, Corey Kluber and
slugger Edwin en Carnacion. In the NFL Week nine is
here Saints and Rams has Doug mentioned Saints running back
Alvin Camaro back at practice after he was sick yesterday.
He should be going on Sunday. Bills have ruled Josh
Allen out the quarterback for their matchup against the Bears.
Just don't know who's going to start that game at
(01:11:37):
quarterback because Derrick Anderson had that concussion on Monday night.
Chiefs Wade receiver Tyree Hill was a full participant in
practice today despite dealing with a groin injury. Vikings could
get Dalvin Cook back, but just a quick fantasy note,
don't trust him. Hamstring injury listed as questionable. Even if
he does play, could be limited against the Lions and
Doug in the NBA cost forward Kevin Love head toe
(01:11:57):
surgery will be reevaluated in about six weeks. And Jimmy
Butler I go tonight for the Timberwolves against the Warriors.
Did you see the Jimmy Boylan story of suing the
Cavaliers for age discrimination. Yes, he says he's he was
fired because of age discrimination, age discrimination, and he's suing
for like over six million dollars. Like that doesn't make
(01:12:20):
any sense. And and and in a rare in a
uh in something you like don't ever see. Instead of
going like we'll have our day in court, the Cavaliers
had a press release like, yeah, this is just a shakedown.
You know, his contract would have paid him five hundred
dollars to be an assistant coach. He's suing for over
(01:12:40):
six million dollars. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that doesn't something
doesn't quite kind of add up there from his lawyer,
and they claim the Calves claim that his lawyer has
a has a history of this. But that's a bizarre one.
Bizarre one. You know, Tom Brady has taken on Aaron
(01:13:00):
Rodgers or I guess the Patriots are taken on the Packers.
Brady has been so good so long. He's really had
one chief rival, that being Peyton Manning in Indie, although
you know he came in and there was the tail
end of the the John Elway era. Now people want
him to be rivals with Rogers, and I think all
of this stuff plays really really well into the hands
(01:13:23):
of Brady. Like I've said, I think Rogers is the
best quarterback I've ever seen. But there's a reason that
Brady has been so successful. And even the discussion, well
Sean Merriman, yes, well, you know, listen, we prepared for
Belichick and for Aaron Rodgers, not for Brady. Like all
(01:13:44):
of this dismissal of Brady does just help Brady. He
does the awe shucks. Man. I really like to watch
him play. He's amazing what he can do with the
football and then he goes and sticks here for three
fifty yards. But it it's a fascinating snapshot of of football, really, right.
(01:14:07):
This just this idea that somehow Aaron Rodgers is accountable
for road losses and road wins, and it's a really
really difficult thing. But I'll also point this one out.
Tom Bray didn't play great in their win against the
Buffalo Bills. He just didn't He just didn't play great. Now,
(01:14:30):
part of it is he didn't have Sony Michelle as
his running back. As this has become a team that
you know, tries to get eight in the box because
they have a tremendous power running game. Part of it
is they still kind of haven't figured out how to
use Josh Gordon and he had to sit a couple
of series. And part of it is they're just not
that good. They're good, they find ways to win games.
(01:14:52):
But this game, I don't think it's a preview of
the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, it will show you just how
much we wish there would have in one Super Bowl
things we have not gotten. It seems like we get
everything now in terms of matchups we want. But we
got Patia Mayweather. But it was like three or four
years after. We should have the same thing with Mike
Tyson versus Lennox Lewis. Remember Mike Tyson couldn't fight, you know,
(01:15:17):
Lennox Lewis, And then he didn't fight in Vander Holyfield too.
He's out of jail and he wasn't the same fighter
for either one of those fights. We never got. We
never got Lebron versus Kobe in the finals, and we've
never gotten a Super Bowl with Brady and Rogers. Nick
Wright thinks the Saints have the advantage this weekend over
the Rams. Give you my thoughts up coming next, be
(01:15:39):
sure to catch live editions of The Doug dot Leap
Show week days at noon Eastern three pm Pacific. Previously
on The Doug god Leap Show, He's the one and
only Edward her You know, they're gonna have to make
a decision about Doc and how much they pay him
or if they're gonna pay him in this offseason. I mean,
based on everything that Jerry and Steven Jones have said, uh,
(01:16:02):
they remain convinced that Dak Prescott is the franchise quarterback,
even though his play has not been as good the
last two years um as it was in his rookie
season when they won eleven straight games and won the
division and nearly beat Aaron Rodgers in that playoff game
at Jerry World. Um. But the fact of the matter
is a team around him has not been as good.
And these are the measures that I think they finally
(01:16:24):
taken to sort of bolster his performance that kind of
challenged Jerry and Steven Jones because they kept saying he's
a franchise quarterback and yet, uh, they didn't do what
the Eagles did for Carson Wentz. So he didn't do
what the Rams did for Jared Goff for the Bears
from Mits Robinsky, go out and get them players that
he can win with. Well now they have, and so
I think that makes a statement as to their belief
(01:16:45):
in in Dak Prescott's long term future. People, I think wrong.
We believe that they have to pay Dak Prescott after
this season. The fact is they have him under contract
for another year. They could let him go into his
walk season if they so choose, and it wouldn't surprise
me if at the end of the season they don't
know yet whether they're willing to back their statement the
(01:17:06):
rhetoric up of a hundred million dollar contract. If you
missed anything from the Doug god Leap Show, you can
always podcast by going to Fox Sports Radio dot com.
Now once again, here's Doug Godlab. Online shopping can be confusing,
well not anymore. With True Price from True Car, now
you can know the exact price you'll pay for your
next car. So visit Truecar and enjoy more confident car
(01:17:29):
buying experience. Doug got Leave show, Fox Boards Radio. I
have no problem with h with with people who are
in charge getting into trouble or even losing their job
when people below them, UM are completely and totally inadequate
(01:17:54):
for the jobs that they were if they did the hiring,
and they're inadequate for the jobs which they were hiring
hired for. But I've watched this DJ Durkin thing. I
read the entirety of the report, and I've had Maryland,
you know, fanboy and and social media guy reach out
to me and say like, oh, how can you possibly
(01:18:14):
defend DJ Durkin because I actually read the report. I
actually read the report in its entirety, Like, look, Jordan
McNair dying is terrible, it's a tragic loss of life
that appeared to have been preventable. But if you read
the report, there's other a couple of there's other factors
(01:18:37):
there that you need to know, Like he was up
in weight three forty, which is he've been up five apparently,
um his target way was three five. He was heavy,
he was taking a d D medicine r a d
h D medicine And by the way, there was no
tox report in the in the final report because he
(01:18:57):
had deemed to die from heatstroke, but some of it
could have been at least partially brought on by the
medication that he was taking. Of course the trainers and
doctors had to know this, but there's no part in
the report where DJ Durkin had anything to do with,
Like even the decision to run outside. It wasn't a
hot day. They were gonna run the stadium, and the
stadium was was under construction. They were gonna ride and
running Coal Field House, which they've turned into a training center,
(01:19:19):
but they couldn't get the field that's indoors, so they
ran outdoors. It's not a bad day, and they're in
ten one tens in nineteen seconds, which for a big
man that that's moving a little bit. That's a conditioning drill.
Do I think they needed? Probably not, Like I'm not
(01:19:39):
I'm just I'm not a huge conditioning guy. On the
other hand, the sport that I'm accustomed to, you know,
like I'm not a big You don't have to do
conditioning in basketball if you practice right, because you're already
you're always running up and down. If you're practicing right, right,
like play hard enough, get up and down enough, and
you'll be conditioning your athletes. And that's not really the
case for football and football players when they only played
(01:20:00):
twelve thirteen games a year and you're talking about the spring,
it's not realistic. So and some of it's about pushing
kids through toughness for toughness, but it's not like they
went out there in nine degrees and eight five humidity
and they're making guys pull sleds and making them do
twenty five sprints, you know, full pads and running backwards
waits on. And this is not junction. The junction boys
(01:20:25):
d J. Durkin had nothing to do with the treatment
of the player once he was under the care of
of the trainers. The failure for the trainers to monitor
his body temperature period and understand that he was taking medication,
that he was overweight for even for a large man
like he was, and it had dire consequences and a
lack of protocols from the athletic trains like that's not
(01:20:48):
his that's not under his purview. I don't believe no trainer,
no doctor, wants a coach telling them what to do
because they're not truly trained in it. And so if
if that to you rise at a level. And I
saw Tim, I saw Tim Tebow say, well, listen, it's
about the conviction. Like no Maryland read the report they
(01:21:10):
reach just read reporting, like man, this is terrible, but
we can't fire d J. Durkin for it. No proof
of a toxic culture there. There's some kids that are upset.
Of course they are. Let's get to what the Fox said.
And now here's Nick right on his thoughts on Rams
versus Saints. I think, by the slightest of margins, I'll
say the New Orleans Saints because of where the game is.
(01:21:32):
I think the Rams are the better complete team. But
one of the reason why, the biggest reason why I
believe the Rams are the only undefeated team in football
is Todd Gurley. And this is a stat that I
saw it. I didn't believe it. I had our great statistician,
Dusty Triple check it in today. He's been great so far.
(01:21:53):
We've been on the R seven team minutes. We'll see
how long it goes. You know, who has the number
one rush defense and all the football the Saints. That's shocking.
That is something you would never expect and so if
you can even just a little bit slow down Todd Gurley,
then the Rams become a beatable football team. I think
the Saints have gone through a tougher schedule. I think
(01:22:15):
the Saints have historically the years they've been good, the
reason they've been good is they have been unbeatable at
home and for all those reasons. Again, I'm not gonna
go to go to war with anyone that says they
think the Rams are slightly in a better position. I
think it's very close, but I think the Saints have
the edge. Uh. Look, the Saints are I think one
(01:22:37):
point dogs at home to the Rams. Um. I I
guess we take away the fact that the Viking has
kind of gifted then the game last week, or that
Justin Tucker missed an extra point, which he's never done
in his career. I think the Saints are good. I
might well pick him upcoming, but I don't think they're
definingly better than the Rams, considering everybody has been loading
(01:22:58):
up for the Rams. Marcus Lawrence joins the show up

Get to the picts for the weekend upcoming. We got
a great third hour for you. I also give me
my thoughts on l s U and Alabama. Joel Klatt
will be joined us shortly. Cowboys seated at three and
four in the season. Their defense is outperformed expectations by
(01:23:40):
anybody who had talked about the Cowboys for the season.
This week they take on the Titans on Monday Night Football.
Their stud defensive end is to Marcus Lawrence. He joins
us on behalf of Snickers. De Marcus, thanks so much
for coming on. You have the weekend off, you don't
play until Monday. How much does that change your personal schedule?
I mean it's gonna change schedule because you know it'll
(01:24:01):
be shorter, um due to that money night game. So um,
that's the only thing. You don't change nothing about this week.
We just you know, kick our days back from you know,
Sunday to Monday. So um, it's still the same schedule.
But everything's looking good. Yeah, but you got You guys
have this you play something, you play what Monday, then
you play Sunday, then you play Thursday. Right, Like, that's
part of the Cowboys thing is that you guys always
(01:24:22):
have this kind of condensed part of the year because
you always play on Thanksgiving. Um, it is unique to
the Dallas Cowboys, is it not. Oh? Yeah, absolutely, It's
just like a tradition. Now we know what we signed
up for. We know our schedule is gonna be tight hand, um,
and that's just the main thing. So we just go
out here and I'm trying to play each game to
(01:24:44):
the best of our abilities. What was your reaction when
the Cowboys, when your Cowboys made a trade for Mark Cooper?
What was your What was your immediate reaction? To be honest,
I was shocked, you know, and the only thing I
can do at that moment was get his memory and
take him and you know, tell him welcome of the team. Uh,
you know, just to have a big name and a
big threat like that to take um a lot of
(01:25:05):
eyes off the back field can help out our offense
a lot. Did did you tweet him with your name?
Do you tweet him welcome to the team? DeMarcus Lawrence
or do you just tweet it? Text him and then
he texted you who dis Yeah, I textting first and
then he hit me back and you know, told me
he appreciated a lot. And you know, you're ready to
get here and you know, start working. Uh, there's been
(01:25:26):
a lot of discussion about the offense, but not people
have not paid attention to how successful the defense has been.
Why do you think so much of the focus is
on the offense? Uh, I mean probably points, you know,
but um, that's not my field, you know to speak about. Um,
(01:25:47):
the offense understand the game plans better than you know me. Um,
my only thing is, you know, making sure the defense
is out there ready to play each and every game.
So UM, I let the offense take care of the
offense and then you know we take or defense. No,
but my my point is, like, look, if you look,
you guys have only allowed a hundred twenty three points
this this year, right, Like, and that's what you can
(01:26:07):
take whatever defensive ratings you want, Like, the only thing
that really matters is how many points you allow. And um,
and the defense has performed at a very very high
level in spite of the fact that you've had some
had some injuries, right, like Sean Lee getting hurt. Obviously
that your your defensive kind of signal caller. I mean
you you go look around the league, and um, I
(01:26:29):
think I could be wrong, but I think you guys
have allowed the fewest points of anybody in the entire NFL,
and yet no one, maybe I could be wrong, no
one seems to be giving the defense their proper amount
of credit. I'm just wondering why you think that is.
I mean to be honest, my guys on look for
no credit and I locker room because at the end
(01:26:49):
of the day, if you're if you're not winning, man,
it's not helping the team. So, um we if we
have to, you know, put up points on defense or
do whatever you know to help our team, um it
to where we want to be. That's what we gotta do.
But we can't be sitting here and be self conceited
over you know, us being good. We want to be great,
We want to be elite, So we got to, you know,
(01:27:10):
keep keep our heads on and keep working each and
every day. Fair fair enough Cowboys defensive end defensive star
DeMarcus Orange joining us in the Doug gottlip Show we're
partnering with Snickers for the sacking challenge to uh uh
for Operation Gratitude. Now you have everybody has the have
these custom cleats are wearying Monday night? What are the
custom cleats? Yeah, so I got the custom cleats from
(01:27:32):
Sneakers and UM, they approached me with the challenge and
if um I get a sack UM on Monday night.
They're saying twenty thousand sacks of Snickers UM to our
troops overseas and with the help of our Operation Gratitude UM.
A great organization UM their mission and you know, we
(01:27:52):
thank them a lot for helping on my troops each
and every year. Uh. They helped troops, veterans and first
responders and they send but thirty three hundred thousand care
packages UM a year UM to those troops and first responders.
So UM, it's just a you know, great blessing to
be able to do this and you know, go out
there and get the sack for the guys overseas. So
(01:28:15):
so when they send I don't and I don't really
know if you know the answer to this. When they
send twenty tho sacks for a sack, if there's a
sack contained one Snickers or is it like a whole
bagg of because that seems like a lot of sacks.
Sounds like it sounds like a whole bag of Snickers.
That sounds like a lot they're sending over. If you
you sack, you get one sack on. Marcus Mariota M. Yeah,
(01:28:37):
I mean it's a lot of Snickers. But you know,
you gotta channel your n a beast. That's why, Um,
I love Snickers so much, you know, and you know,
just all the commercials about you know, how you can
you know, change back to your regular stuff if you
eat a Snicker. Uh's some great commercials they have. And
it's really a great candy bar too. He's just you know,
there's different ways you can eat it. I mean, kids
(01:29:00):
over the years don't show he different ways you eat
Snickers and it actually changes the taste. So, I mean
it's a lot. It's a lot to Snickers. Um that
a lot of us don't understand, but it's you need
to try. All right. Let's let's let's let's get into
the Cowboys really quickly. We we mentioned how well the
defense has played offense obviously in terms of scoring points,
especially with an offensive league. Uh, they they change offensive
(01:29:22):
line coaches. Here during the week off, you add, Amari Cooper,
what's you're in that locker room on a daily basis, Um,
what's Dax's leadership? And like during all these questions about
the offense not not firing out all cylinders. Uh, I
really don't know any of his responses, Um directly, but
(01:29:43):
I know I know he's confident. I already know that
would never give up on on us or on his
teammates because, Um, that's the type of guy he is,
and that's the type of leader he is. I mean,
everything is not clicking on all senates, um, on all
areas farm right now. But I feel like, you know,
he had some time off to get his arm underneath
(01:30:03):
them and his lips underneath him, and you know, be
able to get in the fan room and study himself
and now other teams because during the week, it's hard
to study yourself when you have a new opponent each week.
So UM, now, and that's just the main thing, getting
back to the basis and understand his his game plan
and being able to go out in the execute. So
I got I got a lot of faith in that
(01:30:25):
Um that he would get it right for our offense
and you know, lead us the right way. DeMarcus Lawrence
five and a half sacks so far this season, getting
ready for Operation Gratitude, trying to get some sacks so
that they send so that Snickers sends snacks over to
the troops. Um, last thing I watched Monday, I watched
Thursday in that football last night, and it does feel
(01:30:45):
like the Raiders. I know they're depleted because they traded Tomorrow,
because they traded Khalil, but I felt like there was
some quit in them. Um, you guys had a tough
year a couple of years ago, but it didn't feel
like you quit when you had when you had all
those injury Uh you know to Romo going back the
year before you got Dak How how what is it?
(01:31:05):
How do you keep a team together when it looks
when you're not playing for the playoffs and things are bad?
How does a guy like you keep guys playing hard? Uh?
I mean you once you embrace brotherhood, you you you
don't want to let the guy next to you now.
And um, that's what we have here. We have a
great brotherhood. That's why we call ourselves the Hot Boys.
(01:31:27):
I mean, you know we're with each other each and
every day and it's and it's kind of hard, you know,
but I mean we we were with each other more
than we're with our families, and um, I mean it
is what it is. And you know, once you're with
somebody for a period of time, you started, you know,
learn each other's thoughts and start to think like each other.
And um, it's really like, you know, we are there
(01:31:49):
having fun. It's to collect the group, ah, you know,
sharing the same common goal. So uh, you know need
to you know, put your head down and be mad
about your season because the next season don't come and
what if it happens again? You know? So you shared,
you shared the hot boy you you you shared like
the unofficial or official hot boys um photo on your
(01:32:10):
Instagram page. I gotta point out I felt like Shaan
Lee kind of mailed it in there. It really did,
felt like he felt like he mailed it and he
just kind of thrown up there. And by the way,
that's like a longhorn sign, right is that? Because you
guys are cowboys. But I just Shaun Lee does not
feel like he's as into it as you are in
the photo. Oh no, hot shots his way in that photo.
(01:32:33):
But he did, you know, but uh, yeah, Sean is
a great leader. We used to give him, you know,
jokes about no, bro, you ain't a hot boy. Yeah,
you gotta put in some work. And he's like, all right, well,
I'm not gonna take that devil team off of you
or whatever. I'm like, Okay, Sean hot boy. So I mean,
you know, has his ways, and you know he's a
great leader to us, and he's a general, so we
(01:32:55):
let him slide every now and then. All right, fair
enough to tell me. Yeah, but he like, he's not
making a tough guy. Look, he's just kind of like
fairly he for a guy who just kind of got
got pushed into the photo. You would have thought he
gave a little bit more effort when the photo was taken.
I don't know he if he's as into it as
as he should be. All right, listen, well, I can't
wait to see if the hot boys are fired. You
(01:33:18):
don't have to be a tough guy. We we we
had a tough guys for him. You guys take up
the double team so he can run free and get
all the glory and where the sea across his chest?
Hey man, demarks can't wait to see you on Monday night.
Thanks so much for joining us and what Nickers is
doing for the troops already appreciate you man. Take care

let's bring in Joel Clapp, lead college football analists for
Fox Sports. He joins us in the Doug Otlip Show
(01:35:50):
on Fox Sports Radio. Joe, I haven't heard your opinion
on this. What's DJ Durkin has been fired after being
reinstated by the board. Readings in Maryland. Obviously you cover
among conferences, you know, on a very firsthand basis, Packed twelve,
Big twelve, and Big Ten. What do you think about
what went down to Maryland? Oh? Gosh, um well, first
(01:36:12):
of all, I thought it was strange that they were
this blind to meaning the administration or in the Board
of regions, blind to what was happening within the team.
You know, say what you will about the coverage of
this week or even the fan sentiment. And and I
(01:36:34):
think what ultimately maybe they weren't expecting was the division
and really, I think a better term the fracture within
the team. Um So, I think some would have argued that, oh,
you know, this is them stating that winning is above everything.
But that's where I actually thought it was interesting because
(01:36:54):
rein stadium, I reinstating UM, I thought was going to
be harder iring it. I thought moving on was going
to be the best way to do this one because
you don't fracture the team. And two, you and I
both know that would have been used as the first,
you know, bullet in the chamber for the opposing recruiting staff.
(01:37:16):
You know, so you can't recruit if you're DJ Durkin.
So there's a I mean, shoot, man, there's so many
different angles you can take on this. But just from
that standpoint, I was shocked that they did it just
based on that much less just the human element, the
responsibility element, all of those UM And I guess I
guess the question I get the correct conclusion. I guess
(01:37:37):
the question is this. I read the report because I
really want to know what it actually said. And the
report didn't really link Dink Dirk into any of this. Obviously.
What happens is there were some that didn't like the
strength coach, and the strength coach had UH some accusations.
Here's why I had a problem with that report, Doug,
(01:37:58):
and and you're you and I was a firsthand knowledge
of this. The strength coach. For any head coach is
his chief of staff, if you will, I mean, it
is his wing wingman. It's it's generally the number one
higher for anybody. And and a lot of times, even
thoughbe in the basketball sense, but certainly in the football sense.
(01:38:22):
And and so when I read the report, yeah, the
report from a technical perspective, absolved some of what DJ
was involved with and what he wasn't involved with. But
my problem is is that I'm so tired of these
coaches in a multitude of different sports, claiming responsibility for
all the wins and getting paid millions upon millions of dollars,
(01:38:44):
and then when anything goes wrong, they're like, I didn't know.
It wasn't my job, and it's not my responsibility, you
know what. I'm sorry, but the buck has to stop somewhere,
and the head coach is responsible for the culture. He's
responsible for his own hires. You can't hire someone that
acts that way and not be somewhat responsible for it.
(01:39:07):
So when I read the report, I thought that it
went way too far in absolving DJ from a technical
perspective of some of the responsibility. I look, I think
that's that's accurate, and I think it's an interesting point.
My issue is more I don't think abusive behavior is
what led to this death, or any sort of culture
(01:39:29):
toxicity led to this death. Right, Like, if you read it,
which I know you did, is you know, no I
had I didn't know that he had a d D
and was on medication. And I'm guessing that maybe some
of the trainers that were treating him didn't know or
didn't assess the fact that that could have been what
was leading to uh, you know, what was leading to
heat stroke even though it wasn't particularly hot outside, you know,
(01:39:51):
or that he was a medical perspective, you're you're probably right, yeah,
but but there is culture where he was only um,
you know, taken to the training room by two students,
trainers who didn't put him in the cold tub for
fear that if he passed out they wouldn't be able
to get him out. Well, how why is that? I
would argue that that's actually the culture in play, because
(01:40:14):
no one cares about somebody who they they feel as
it is lacking off, right, So that's where the culture
did absolutely affect this instance. Now, from a medical perspective
of what was happening inside of Jordan, I would I
agree with you. You know that this might have happened
whether he was in the cold tub or not. But
(01:40:34):
but the nonchalant care I think absolutely speaks to the
culture who was dealing with him, who was caring for him,
and when he ultimately got the care that he needed,
I think absolutely speaks to the type of culture and
the type of environment that was going on during that
conditioning practice. Joel Glad joining us in the Doug Gotlib
Show Fox Sports Radio. I think it should be fascinating
(01:40:55):
to see how the team responds taking a Michigan State
team that has had their own kind of tumultuous season.
They went through some of the stuff off the field.
Obviously not a tragic death last year, but but there,
you know they were, They had their own issues off
the field last year. Um playing at home, Matt Cann
has actually done a really good job making them cohesive.
(01:41:16):
They have a scuffle between punters yesterday and that makes
it on to social media. How do they play against
Michigan State? Boy, I think this could go I mean
I think that this is the ultimate pendulum. It's either
going to be really good or really bad. I don't
see them just coming out and being you know average.
(01:41:38):
I really think this either totally galvanizes them or they
completely fall apart, and I would lean towards fall apart.
You know, with the way there is just too much
pressure on these kids and too much focus on on
what's happening. And I can't even imagine what they're going
through emotionally this week. You know, half the team wants
(01:41:58):
the coach back. Then they get what they want that
it's taken away from him. Half the team want them fired.
They walk out of a meeting. Now they're excited. That's
not just like division. You know, who starts at quarterback
can sometimes cause a divisive locker room. This locker room
seems and and is proving to be totally fractured. So
(01:42:18):
it's either going to be one or the I think
there is the ultimate A or F type of situation,
and I would lean towards F. But you never know. Alright,
let let's get to Kentucky, a team whose defense has
been outstanding and their offense did just enough and got one,
uh they got one mulligan last week so that they
could beat Missouri on the road. What's the likelihood they
(01:42:40):
upset Georgia. I don't think it's very likely at all.
Their defense is outstanding here exactly right, exactly right, and
they they've got a pass rusher named Josh Allen that's really,
really good. He's gonna be a really a high top
prospect in the draft. He is sensational. The defense is sensational.
Uh No one's come close to run up a bunch
(01:43:00):
of points on them. But Georgia found something last week,
and they found something that made them great a year ago. Namely,
it's their efficiency and ability to convert and score on
third down. Three of their touchdowns happened on third down.
Jake from was sensational on third down. That's something that
he was a year ago that was not quite the
case during the course of this season. But he found that.
(01:43:21):
And I think Georgia's defense is really good. The bottom
line is this Kentucky cannot throw the ball. And I
don't think you can be Georgia at all if you're
one dimensional on offense with Denny Snell and just have
a great defense. I think Georgia wins. I think they
went pretty handily and quite candidly of the you know,
there's probably I would call it six teams in the
rankings that I think are just wildly overrated and overranked
(01:43:45):
and and Kentucky is one of them. And I think
that's going to be proven out this week. West Virginia
takes on Texas. Is a Texas team that just got
thumped by Oklahoma, said did come back making it make
it a game in the second half. You'll be calling
it on Fox. Of course, you a chance to see
Will Greer, one of the elite quarterbacks, and maybe you know,
I know they lost Iowa State, but there's still a
(01:44:06):
chance because they still have a chance to match up
with Oklahoma at once, but potentially two games with with
Oklahoma or maybe two games with Texas upcoming. What are
your thoughts on West Virginia and if they can fix
what was wrong with them when they lost their names. Well, yeah,
that Aims game was weird. I watched it on Filman one.
(01:44:26):
You gotta give Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclings
a lot of credit. They did a great job defensively
forcing we Career to hold the ball. And I think
you're going to see Texas try to do a lot
of that tomorrow. I know I certainly would because Baylor
was unable to do that and they ran Baylor out
of the building last Thursday night. I'm a bit worried
for Texas in the sense that West Virginia played last
Thursday night and then Texas had that, you know, barnburner
(01:44:47):
of a game in Stillwater on Saturday night. So you're
talking about a much shorter week for the Longhorns than
than for West Virginia, who played at home on Thursday
against Baylor. UM. I will tell you that I think
that West Virginia's defense is going to get their sternest
test of the year thus far. Now, they did play
Texas Tech, but remember Bowman got hurt in that game,
(01:45:08):
and they didn't see Texas Tech at their best offensively.
And so I think a Texas team that's averaging thirty
one points a game with elnor are playing really well
with those big, tall wide receivers on the outside, this
is certainly gonna be West Virginia's biggest test. Uh. And
in Texas plays very well at home their four no
at home, they beat USC, they beat TCU, They've taken
care of business at home, and their defense UH is
(01:45:31):
pretty good. I think Will Grea is gonna have to
play his best with that good core deep core of
wide receivers around him. Uh, to win the ballgame. I
can't wait to watch it play out. I will tell you,
I feel like we're going to be in for a
high scoring affair, maybe a similar type of game that
we saw Texas and Oklahoma State play last week. And
and you're right. I mean Oklahoma State was unbelievable in
(01:45:52):
the four first quarter, two and sixty total yards, jump
out to a seven team seven lead, make it seven
soon after in that second quarter, and Texas just didn't
have enough to come back. They tried got within three,
but then made a couple of crucial mistakes. UM we
caught a punt inside the tin yard line that backed
them up. They punted the ball away after a holding call,
and then Oklahoma State scored. So Texas is going to
(01:46:13):
have to write that ship very quickly if they want
to get a win. Penn State escaped last week against
Iowa at home, and they escaped the first week against
app State at home, escaped against Indiana. UM lost two
close games Michigan State at home, Ohio State at home.
Now they travel on the road to take on Penn State. Uh. Look,
(01:46:34):
I I know everybody likes tracing Sorely, and they got
some talent out wide, especially a big, big target like
Juwan Johnson. But it feels like something's missing with this
Penn State team. Am I Am I wrong? No? I
don't think you're wrong at all. And I think what's
missing is leadership on defense. They lost a lot of
great players from a year ago, especially right down the
middle of defense, tackle, middle, linebacker, and safety. They don't have, say,
(01:46:55):
Kwon Barkley, they don't have Joe moorehead and they've actually
overperformed to this point in the season to be at
the point where they are. In my estimation, Trace McSorley
is down twelve percent in his completion percentage twelve percent,
and they're facing a defense in Michigan that is, I
gotta tell you, I think, hands down the best core
defense in the country. They get up to the passer,
(01:47:18):
they stopped the run, and then date are unbelievable against
the past. Penn State does not run the ball with
any consistency, and you can't tell me that Trace McSorley
is going to throw the ball againsto that defense in
a year in which he's averaging twelve percent less than
completion percentage and went on the road. You know, the
last time Penn State lost badly was actually at Michigan
two years ago in two thousand and sixteen. And since
(01:47:41):
then they've only lost five games, and they've had the
lead in the fourth quarter in all five of those games.
I think we get another blowout. I actually think that
Michigan off of by rested with all those tight games
that Penn State has played up to this point, I
think Michigan beats him, beats him soundly. I wouldn't be
shocked at all if this was a two touchdown gap,
if out more. All right, let's let's get to the
(01:48:01):
game of the week, maybe the game of the year.
I remember it was the game of the century in
two thousand eleven. Then they played again. It's in the
championship game. L L s U a prohibitive underdog, but
it's under lights in Baton rouge coach ow and and
and Joe Burrows. But Joe Burrows is not your run
pass threat, right, That's not the type of quarterback that
generally generally gives Nick Saban problems. Can he give Nick
(01:48:25):
Saban problems? I don't think so. I don't think so
at all. This is still a pretty good defense their
number ten and scoring defense. I know they haven't you know,
played to the level that they've played at the last
couple of years, but Bama is still very good on defense.
And here's where it all boils down to for me,
even if l s U played outstanding defense, I'm talking
about outstanding defense. I think Alabama offensively is to a
(01:48:48):
point where Oklahoma has been over the last few years,
which is and Doug, you've seen this. You can play
great on defense and they'll still score thirty five points
on you Like that's holding them down right, Like that's
playing great. So you if that's the case, which I
certainly think is going to be the case, and that's
what's giving credit to L s You that means that
Joe Burrow's got to score thirty eight. I mean, do
(01:49:11):
you think that's gonna I don't know. I don't think
that's gonna happen. And so people are always asking me like, wow,
you can you believe that that spread is there? No,
I can absolutely believe it. First of all, I think
L s U is overrated quite frankly, because they don't
play great on offense, and I think the middle of
the SEC is a vastly overrated league. I know I
get thrown under the bus a lot for that, but
the middle is absolutely what I've said, and that's overrated
(01:49:35):
by the media. UM. And that that's who they've beaten. UM.
So we'll see. I know that they beat Georgia. Georgia
turned the ball over four times. If Alabama can hold
on the football, they're gonna beat them by more than
two touchdowns. Awesome stuff, Joel. Joel Safe travels to Austin.
Thanks so much for joining us. Absolutely man, talk to
you soon. Is Joel Klatt. Lead analysts for Fox's coverage
(01:49:57):
of college football. Doug Gotli show, You're on fox S
board training. Let's get you to Dan Buyer AND's got
huge news in Major League Baseball as well as getting
ready for a weekends late of football. Clayton Kershaw is
gonna be back with the Dodgers. Didn't opt out of
his two year deal. If you will, he had the
option to, could have left sixty five million dollars on
the table. Essentially what happened. Dodgers and Kershaw agreeing on
a new three year contract for the left handed pitcher
(01:50:20):
keeps him under contract through twenty one. Valued at ninety
three million dollars. There are other incentives. Can Rosenthal of
the MLB on Fox in the Athletic says that Kershaw
could get another one point five million dollars if he
wins his cy young There are other incentives as well,
from the number of starts that he makes in a season. Elsewhere,
Baseball comes picked up the option on picture cold Hamil's contract.
(01:50:41):
It's twenty million dollars. In the NHL, Panthers doubled up
the Jets by a score of four to two. The
Colorado Avalanche take on the Vancouver Canucks at nine Eastern

Slash match limitations apply in the NFL. Six teams up
(01:51:02):
by this week, not the Kansas City Chiefs. Thill they'll
take the the Cleveland Browns that should have Tyree Kill,
who was a full participate in practice today. Despite a
growing injury, Chargers running back Melvin Gordon questionable with a
hamstring injury to play at Seattle but he did practice
fully today and the Vikings expect running back Dalvin Cook
to get on the field against the Lions on Sunday.
He is dealing with a hamstring injury. Doug, awesome stuff,
(01:51:24):
Thanks so much, Dan, Doug got Liam Show Fox Sport tradeo.
Every week at this time, we give you the picks,
we bring you the money. I won't winner. Well, we
got it five NFL five College. It's five for five
which Doug Gotlian. Let's go five Doug Gotlieb show here
(01:51:46):
on Fox Sports Radio. Do do Do Do Do Do
Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do
do do Um, I got five picks for you. Let's
start in the Big twelve as Oklahoma State is a
six and a half point favorite at Baylor. Now, if
(01:52:07):
this game was five years ago, you've been like man
first one to seventy wins. And I know that Oklahoma
State is coming off a huge win. Fitt two of
our Texas and the thoughts is that maybe they overlook
Baylor or there to let down game. This is a
Baylor team that was beaten by Texas and last week
by Virginia West Virginia fifty eight to fourteen. Fifty eight
(01:52:30):
to fourteen. Oklahoma beat him sixties six to thirty three.
It's a shell of them, their former selves. Oklahoma State
is just better. They've been playing below their level. Uh,
they'll they'll win, they'll cover, take the Pokes. M m
m m m m ah. George has taken on Kentucky.
(01:52:54):
You heard Joel clad talk about it. Kentucky's defense is
in fact outstanding, his outstanding, and they're gonna match up
with a Georgia team who they have. You know, one
big knock against him that was losing on the road
to l s U. They've been Missouri by fourteen, they
beat South Carolina, and Kentucky was very fortunate to escape
(01:53:17):
Missouri last week. I'm gonna take Georgia to win and
to cover on the road with an eight and a
half point line. Let's get to the Big ten where
Michigan welcomes in Penn State. I've been a big proponent
of Michigan all season long. Twelve points does seem like
(01:53:39):
a lot considering how Penn State has played everybody close,
everybody close, But a big reason is because their defense.
Michigan's defense is outstanding, outstanding. Give me a Michigan in
the points. Oregan's taken on use c l A as
Chip Kelly brings his team back up to Eugene, and
(01:54:00):
I think, look, chip Kelly's gonna be good in the future.
This is a u c l A team that did
beat cal did beat Arizona, but when faced with a
legit challenger like Utah, they got blown out, especially last
last Friday Night, taken out Oregon. Obviously, Ducks had to
be disappointed their recent performances, getting beaten by Arizona. But
(01:54:21):
back home they're a much better football team. Give me
the Ducks will be all hopped up on Quack last
college game. Of course, we're going with L s U
and Alabama. Man, that's a lot of points. Fourteen a
half seems like a ton of points. But I'm just
not a bio biro into Joe Burrows, and I look
(01:54:42):
at the numbers for Alabama. What was it, forty six
of sixty one drives the two has had have ended
up in scores, forty one have dened up in touchdowns.
I just don't think L. S U can score with him,
Roll Todd, Let's get to the NFL. Pittsburgh has taken
on Baltimore. Ben Roethlisberger has got a broken index finger. Baltimore,
(01:55:07):
of course licking their wounds after two straight losses, but
they dominated Pittsburgh last time out. I think they beat
him this time out. And the fact that it's two
and a half right now makes me salivated. Thought if
Justin Tucker, who costs him a game two weeks ago,
can win him a game this week, I'll take the favorite,
the Ravens at home. Kansas City has taken on Cleveland. Yes,
(01:55:32):
I think Kansas City has a ton of weaponry. Offensively,
I think Cleveland's got a pretty talented defense. Of course,
they number one in turnover ratio, and I think offensively
they're gonna let Baker throw a little bit. And this
is not a great defensive team in Kansas City. That's
a massive understatement. I'll take Cleveland as a home dog.
(01:55:52):
Eight point home dog. Give me the Browns to keep
it close. M Minnesota taken on Detroit. When you trade
away your top wide receiver and you essentially say we're
playing for next year, how does your team react? That's
the way I think Detroit will react. I think Minnesota
is starting to figure it out. Frankly, I thought they
(01:56:15):
played well last week, just two bad turnovers that I
don't put on Kirk Cousins shoulders. I think Cousins wins,
Cousins covers. Give me Cousins and the points. HM Houston
somehow is a one point dog at Denver. What am
I missing here? They added to Marius Thomas. Uh, They're
(01:56:37):
better at quarterback, they're better at defensive line, they're better
at running back, and I know Philip Lindsay is pretty good,
and they're better at wide receiver. And they're a one
point dog in Denver. Take Houston. Last one. New England
taken on Green Bay Patriots are a five point favorite. Fog.
(01:56:59):
Green Bay outplayed the Rams last week. Remember New England's
got a short week. Even though it's a Sunday, they
played on a Monday, and they didn't play exceedingly well offensively.
They're not the same without Sony Michelle. Um. With that mind,
I'm gonna take the Green Bay Packers to keep it close.
Given the factors. There's our picks five there. It is
(01:57:21):
five NFL five College five for five with Doug Gottlie.
We'll get to the press next on The Doug Gottlip
Show on Fox Sports. Rade to keep mine on nineteen
eleven in College picks fifteen up, fifteen downs straight even
on NFL picks thirty four and six for the year.
A big move in Major League Baseball? Or was it
(01:57:43):
a smart move? I'll explain next. Be sure to catch
live editions of the Doug got Leap Show weekdays at
noon Eastern three pm Pacific Doug got Leap Show, Fox
Spores Radio. We had a lot of stuff to get to.
I would bore you with my own feelings, my own
thoughts this weekend. How I can't believe I signed up
for a fundraiser for my kids school on Saturday night
for getting its Alabama ls you and I'll be oh, yeah, hi, Hi, Hi, Yeah,
(01:58:07):
don't and then I'll be getting nudged by my wife.
Why are you watching your phone? That's just so rude.
You gotta make eye contact. Why are all the guys
going outside? Why are they one of their phones instead?
I'll get you to the press, the press. Dan Buyer
joins us, Dan, go through as many stories you can
time it's possible, all right, Clinton Kershaw's got his deal
(01:58:30):
with the Dodgers, staying with the team through the one season.
Ninety three million dollars for Kershall over that three years span.
Ken Rosenthal says that the incentives of the three year
contract allow for a one point five million dollar bonus
if he wins a cy Young He'll get another million
dollar bonus if he starts twenty four games, another million
dollars if he starts twenty six, another million dollars if
(01:58:52):
he starts twenty eight, and he asked another million dollars
if he makes thirty starts in a season, billion dollars dollars.
I know understand where the hometown discount is, Like, why
doesn't anybody play a little poker? You know you got
him in a contract he wants stopped out, Like get
opped out. See if you can get more than than
the sixty five million over two that that we we
(01:59:15):
had gender contract for this. This feels like the Dodgers
being overly loyal to a tremendous picture who's not the
same guy anymore. Ken did tweet that it's thirty one
million dollars. Not only is it broken down is thirty
one million dollars annually, but that's what the new deal
would be, Doug. So it's not like he would get
(01:59:36):
his sixty five million in the first two years that
he was going to get and then get the twenty eight.
On the back end, it would be that he just
gets thirty one over the next three year. It's not
that there's anything different with it, but that's what Ken
Rosenthal was tweeting earlier. Uh after a technical snaff food
last Sunday, Sorry for the ah, I knew exactly where
I was going. Direct TV is offering a offering their
(01:59:58):
customers of the NFL Sunday Ticket a refund. Yes, they're
giving them actually the Sunday Ticket Max Package free of
charge for the rest of the season. Those that bought
a Sunday Ticket Day Pass will be refunded their money.
But did you see what happened last week, Doug. I
don't know if you're around, but there was an option
on the every game screen where you had to click
(02:00:19):
to either buy that game or not. It was covering
up half of the games and lasted for a good
couple of hours through Sunday. So not Direct TV offering
customers the Sunday Ticket Max Package for free because of that.
I had that with my red zone zone wasn't working
because of it. Yeah, I was really upset about it.
I don't want the Max package I ordered it, or
(02:00:40):
I didn't order it for a reason. I want some
money back Direct TV. I gotta be honest. I don't
care about their red Zone, Fantasy channel or whatever they've got. Yeah,
there's a reason I didn't pay for it because I
didn't want it. You don't have to give it to
me for free and be like, okay, anyway, Dalvin Cook
should be back Sunday for the Vikings. We'll be on
a snap count. He was on the practice real today.
But watch receiver Stefon Diggs questionable for their game against
(02:01:02):
the Lions on Sunday. Yeah, that that's the one that
that you need to kind of pay attention to. That.
Even if they get Dalvin cookback, you lose Stefon Diggs,
and all of a sudden, your your offense really starts
to struggle. Of course, you're taking on the Lions team
and Adam Dealing I think trying to make up for
that fumble. I still like the lines in my pick,
but I do start to get a little queasy if
I think Stefon Diggs, whos an elite talent uh isn't
on the field. Rivals dot Com is reporting that former
(02:01:25):
Tennessee Volunteers coach Butch Jones is interested in the vacancy
at Maryland if there is one at the end of
the year. Cool, all right, he may have an interest.
Would you like to make four million dollars to be
the coach? I mean, like, look Mike Locksley, who was
an interim coach there. Some people like Mike Locksley was
(02:01:46):
twent was two and twenty six and two and a
half years in New Mexico, and people are saying he
is a he is a candidate. I don't see. But
Shones did a good job of replenishing a program's assets,
but it just didn't win anything after leaving Cincinnati. I
don't see that one happening. You gotta be a guy
who can recruit the d m V. That's a big
area in basketball. Tip Wolves guard Jimmy Butler is gonna
(02:02:07):
play that night against the Warriors after sitting out Wednesday's
game to rest and missing Derrick Rose's forty point effort.
Maybe Derrick excuse me, Maybe Derrick Grows should walk out
saying you can't win without me, You can't win without me,
blah blah blah blah blah. Now there may be more
to this, because, in speaking with ESPN and the Twin Cities,
(02:02:27):
Wolves owner Glenn Taylor said that head coach Tom Thibodeau
was caught off guard by Jimmy Butler's trade request. As
Taylor said, quote, I just think that when he told
the coach he wanted to leave, I think he caught
the coach off by surprise. He wasn't ready for it.
So of course I think his plan was Jimmy would
be here. And then he added, if Jimmy isn't going
to want to be here, I don't see how we're
(02:02:47):
going to be the team that we need to be.
And all these are reasonable comments. Of course, doesn't help
that that Kevin Garnett says that Glen Tier doesn't know
anything about basketball. Actually, that's a nice way of putting
what what Kevin Garnett had to say. So we've got
Paris in four for the Summer Games. Of course, Tokyo
coming up in two years. The Los Angeles gets it well.
(02:03:11):
North Korea and South Korea have agreed to officially informed
the IOC of their intent to co host the twenty
two Summer Olympics despite these sanctions against North Korea by
the US. That's maybe maybe by then there one Korea
again is that feels so far off in the future,
and that now Soul did have it, what the eighty
(02:03:32):
eight Games. Yeah, and pyeong Chang just had the Winter Games,
so there's sold the eight Games and now they're they're
intent to try and host like they don't automatic and
it's not like, oh, you get it right, they have
to they got they gotta go through the It should
be in the United States all the time. I mean,
I'm not sure we already have the infrastructure. We should
just move. Well, I think this this London what we
(02:03:54):
had in twelve as I mentioned, we had, you know,
Tokyo's coming up, like there's big enough cities to out
hold it. And uh. One final note to pass along
for Balkan countries gonna make a joint bid to host
the twenty thirty World Cup Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Serbia.
South America is gonna try with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. Yeah,
it's a we went from a copycat league to copycat
(02:04:16):
countries as we're gonna you know, US, Canada and Mexico
are gonna host the World Cup and everybody's like, hey,
we can and this is all. This is a lot
like CBS and Turner hosted doing the n c A tournament, right, defy,
you know, defray the costs. You don't have to build
new stadiums and some levels. That makes sense, but it
does take away from the idea of being in one
country where you can go to all the games. Back
it out there and pressed. That was the press. Alright,
(02:04:39):
your big upset pick for the weekend. Let me start
with you, Dan Buyer. Give me one upset pick for
the weekend. Upset pick of the weekend against the spread.
Give me the bronze to cover against the Chiefs. Okay,
I had that one too. I like that as well.
What about you there, John Ramos, do you have a
team that she thinks you an upset like the Saints
beating the Rams? Oh Man on your own team music?
Do you want one that you're gonna change later? L
