I'm already listening. I'm just saying so you can tell
your friends if they can't get this show, if they
want to hear David and Joe coup Uh, just an
(01:25):
unbelievable athlete at tight end for the Browns. He'll join
us in thirty minutes. Or Daniel Jeremiah from the NFL Network,
or Josh Johnson, Redskins quarterback. Let's get to last night
what we saw Cam Newton. Now, look, I will fully
(01:45):
admit I am not a Cam Newton dude and not
my jam And the reason is that so many things
have to go right in order for Cam to be
Cam in the NFL. Right, you have to play a
little bit more ball control because he's not a throw
at fifty times a game guy. Because he's never been accurate.
(02:08):
He's just not He's not a savant in terms of
breaking down defenses. That's not what he does. Now. He
has a huge arm, a huge body, he's a remarkable athlete,
and guys seem to like him, and so those things
not all people, but guys seem to like him. So
with with that in mind, you've got those three things
(02:28):
going for you. He's been a league m v P.
He's been to a Super Bowl, albeit he performed very
poorly in the Super Bowl, both during and after the game.
He's not perfect, but he's also not the worst quarterback
in the league. Last night, he was obviously limited by
what we believe is a an injured shoulder, as well
(02:48):
as plenty against a pretty good defense and with the
an offense that's suddenly become inept But that I had,
I had two thoughts here and watching this one, this
one is interesting. There's been a lot of calls for
Colin Kaepernick to be in the NFL. Kry, Colin Kaepernick
(03:11):
is going to be in the NFL. The first team
that you pick up the phone is the Carolina Panthers. Right, what? What?
What were the limitations on Colin Kaepernick? Even when he
was healthy and reny defense? Great, I couldn't throw it
from different arm angles because he got small hands, but
great out of the pocket, does have a good arm,
(03:33):
not great at breaking down defenses. He's a different version
of Cam Newton. But do you want to know why
that will never happen. It has nothing to do with
him suing the league, although I'm sure that might play
a small part of it. Cam Newton is not letting
that happen. Zero chance when you're a starter, especially you're
(03:53):
a guy with this big and ego and is big
of a following, and you're the franchise quarterback like Cam
Newton a lot like the reason Kaepernick wasn't backup quarterback
in Seattle, Russell Wilson wasn't having that. Neither will Cam not.
Neither will Cam Newton. So I watched yesterday, I'm like, man,
why don't they put the back? Oh? Yeah, the backup
(04:14):
is Derrick Anderson, Which brings me to my second point.
Cam Newton is arguably the best big athlete to ever
play the position of quarterback, right, Like, there have been
big human beings you guys. Ever, we've had Drew Bledsoe
on before. Like, Drew Bledsoe is gigantic. There was Martin McGuire.
(04:36):
Remember Mark McGuire's brother, all right, you guys remember him.
I don't remember his first name. I'm but I'm blanking
Dan McGuire, right, Dan the man, Dan McGuire, He was
like six eight at quarterback. Brock Osward was like six seven,
six eight. There have been big dudes. Kim Newton is
big Kim Newton is wide, Kim Newton is a physical
(04:59):
spec estimate Greek gods. You're like, we look up to
that guy. That's how big and physical and the type
of specimen that Cam Newton is. And Cam Newton's body
continues to break down. Why because the way he has
to play the quarterback position, he has to be a
vital threat to run the football. And while his head
(05:20):
isn't as much an issue because frankly, his head is
above anybody else's target level, his shoulders aren't, his knees aren't,
legs aren't, and you're watching his shoulder and you're like, man,
why is it so bad? Because he's taking a beating
this can and and I've had Lamar Jackson fans, and
(05:41):
why did you throw Lamar Jackson in there? Look, I
don't think Lamar Jackson is going to be a good
quarterback long term. I have years of history, both recent
and previous to tell you that I do understand why
it's working in the short term, and I'm fast to
see if it'll work uh next season if they continue
on this path ath in Baltimore. Right, But in order
(06:01):
to continue on this path, you're gonna have to get
some backups that play like that because he's gonna miss
some games and he's gonna have to involve and improve
as a pastor, which I just think there's limitations to
how much you improve. We'll see. But Lamar Jackson has
taken the starting job from Joe Flacco and they're gonna
ride and die with him in Baltimore. And anyone says
(06:24):
I don't understand the correlation between Lamar Jackson and Cam Newton, Well,
Lamar Jackson's gonna run the football more, he's gonna throw
it less. He's like half the size and width of
Cam Newton and he's gonna take the same, if not
a greater beating. And then you have the issues that
Cam runs into where Mr Jackson doesn't read a defense
(06:44):
all that well, he's not terribly accurate, which has been
the biggest knock on Cam Newton. And unlike Cam Newton,
when Cam Newton gets hurt, he's so big he can
still find a way to be effective. If that little
dude get it's hit and he's you're gonna get hit,
They're gonna catch you eventually. Just doesn't seem to have
(07:05):
a long staying power. You know who else I've fear
for Shaun Watson. Like, look, if it could happen to
Cam Newton, it could happen to Deshaun Watson, who's torn
to to a c l S already. We're not even
talking about the rest of his body taking competing. I
(07:28):
don't know if you're aware, but Deshaun Watson had to drive.
He hadn't wait somebody drive him from Houston to Jacksonville
for a football game because he had a collapse lung
that actually happened. Look, Deshaun Watson is tougher than a
two dollar steak, and I actually think he's a good
enough leader and a potentially a better quarterback than Cam Newton.
(07:50):
I don't think I'm speaking out of turn and saying
that I don't think he's great. I don't think he's
But all you have to know is that style of
quarterback just we can't protect you there. We can't. It's
like if you remember, do you guys watch The Godfather too?
Remember the Godfather too? Godfather Too. They moved the family
(08:13):
to Nevada, My Godfather too. They're in Nevada, and when
Michael Corleone leaves, the compound can't protect you. So the
family stays only within the compound. The pocket is the compound.
Anything outside the rest of the world and one of
(08:33):
the other families might want to take a shot at you.
That's all it is. Like, Oh, Tom tom Brady got
hurt once and he's played for eighteen years. Yeah, and
by the way, when he got rolled up on what
the NFL did, it changed the rule you can't hit
(08:53):
a guy below the knee Tom Brady rule. Philip Rivers
is arguably the worst athlete to ever he played the position.
I'm serious with this, Philip Philip Rivers is a terrible athlete.
He's not slow because he's old. He's always been slow.
He started I think two five or two d six
consecutive games. Do you know why he never leaves a compound?
(09:18):
Eli Manning. The only thing that stopped his starting streak
was he was terrible and he didn't want to come
out of the game in the fourth quarter, so they
took him out in the first quarter. Oops. So I mean, look,
when did Carson Wentz get hurt last year? Did he
get hurt the compound? Now he wanted to go and
(09:40):
do his own thing. Andrew Luck trying to take on
linebackers and then the snowboarding incident. That stuff didn't happen
in in uh in the pocket. Yeah, the snowboarding incident
was something was long rumored, and he actually talked about
it before the season after he had hurt himself supposedly
(10:00):
one time he hurt himself again, hurt his shoulder again snowboarding. Yeah,
even Drew Brees has played forever. Drew Brees remember his
shoulder nearly fell off. I can't remember that. I thought that.
I think that was scrambling. That was that might have
been a sack. That was his last game as a
San Diego Chargers. Devastating stuff. But Drew Brees is tiny.
(10:21):
He's my size. No, like he's playing because he stays
in the compound. Look if if that big dude who's
six ft six and fifty pounds has got a cannon
for an arm, he's he can he's like a freight
train running him. If they can't hurt him, what do
(10:43):
you think they're gonna do to Lamar Jackson and Deshaun
Watson and any of these other running quarterbacks. In addition
to the limitations that some of these guys have in
terms of their ability to pick a part of defense,
and some of it was They've been so athlete athletic
for so long they've been able to get away with it,
and they haven't had had to go through protions. They
haven't had to learn about what Kurt ornered him, which
is get it and just get rid of it quick.
(11:07):
They're athletic. Gifts have actually come back to hurt him.
Even Steve Young, greatest scrambling quarterback of all time, Steve
Young career cut short. Why because he got went out
of the compound. DW Brees was diving on a pumbe
under the goal line. Yeah, and his arm got bent
back was so nasty. So I watched last night and
(11:30):
again I'm not a cam guy, but I'm not a
cam hater. I just I realized what he is. I
think most they realize what he is. But that guy
has taken a beating and that's the only way in
which he can play the position is if you make
him into a runner. You use the fact that he's
a freight train. The problem with that is it's just
the attrition. The body blows up. A hit here, a
(11:54):
hit there. Don't believe me, Deshaun Watson to a c
L S Alright, that thought about hitting, that's about running.
What about the collapse lung this year? That's the league,
that's the sport, all right, coming up next. We always
want what we don't have. What's true in life, it's
(12:16):

Now that's Progressive. Call or click today Doug Got Leap Show,
Fox Sports Radio. I have a nice car because I'm
(13:42):
not sponsored by any car company. I'm not gonna tell
you what kind of car do that's good? But I've
owned just about all of them, um and I do. Actually,
this is like completely unsponsored. What am I gonna tell
you what kind it was? But it's funny we're talking
about cars and I missed. I used to have a
Ford or pickup truck. Now, it wasn't like a rambler,
(14:03):
it wasn't shaking, and it wasn't like a nine was
like a brand new high level pickup pick up and like,
have you ever driven one? You're like, man, this is amazing.
Like I missed my truck. I used to drive a
truck from Westport, Connecticut to New York City, fifty one
miles every day, UH each way to work. And I
loved it. And I parked it in the city on
(14:24):
the street and I could find a parking spot. It
was amazing. I loved it. And now I don't have
a pickup truck, and you know what, I missed my truck.
But I also despite having a nice car, I parked
my car. I was walking down the street and I
saw one of those UH Dodge hell Cats. You've ever
seen those Dodge hell Cats. You're familiar with this car,
Ramas I'm familiar with the Dodge, I don't know about
(14:47):
the hell Cat. Okay. So the Dodge Charger is the
actual UH automobile muscle car. It is um but the
hell Cat is like the souped up version of it, Okay,
And it costs somewhere in the sixty to seventy variety.
Because the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, I believe has somewhere
(15:14):
in the neighborhood of seven horsepower. Uh yeah, hell, God
goes zero to sixty and three point six seconds. You
know it doesn't handle all that great. You're basically on
a rocket ship that might or might not turn, but
(15:36):
it looks cool and it goes really really really fast. Actually,
they cost like eighty three dollars, and rappers have them,
hoopers have them, football players have them because they got
answerer incoming, like because like, you know what, I want
one of those, and I guarantee when they're driving down
the street, they're like, this is awesome, and then they
(15:57):
see a pickup truck, like, man, I'd like a pickup
truck too. Do you know why we always want we
don't have? If you have Xbox, you're probably like, man,
I kind of want one of those one of those
uh Nintendo switches or whatever those things are. Right. If
you're an Apple guy, you're like, I kinda we say
to the Samsung thing. Everybody's got Apple if you do Samsung, Like,
(16:18):
it wouldn't have just been better if I was on
the Apple I Cloud like everybody else. There's got to
be a reason that everybody has an iPhone, isn't there
We always want we don't have. That's who we are.
And it's funny college football wants what the NFL has
(16:39):
a lot of people because they think it's more fair. Well,
it's more fair, that's what it is. It's fair. I
don't know if you saw this report from the Athletic,
but Jim Delaney, who's the commissioner of the Big Ten,
was like, yeah or open to it? The idea of
(17:01):
expanding the playoffs, Well, duh, that's because your team got
left out of the playoffs. And by the way, Delaney
is arguably, maybe inarguably the most powerful man in college athletics.
Ask anybody. He's the commissioner of the Big Ten. The
Big Ten is a complete cash cow for the Big
Ten network, for Fox, uh, even for ESPN, who has
(17:22):
Big ten stuff. Big ten is is the deal man,
so is the SEC. But Mike's Live passed away and
so the current commissioner just doesn't have the have the
swag of a guy like Delaney or the late Mike's Live.
And I've told people fifteen times over this thing will
(17:44):
get changed if in one the Big Ten, the SEC,
and No True Dame all decide it's gonna get changed.
That's how things get done. Why do I say that
because the Big ten the se see specifically Alabama and
Notre Dame, they all bring massive ratings. So here's what's
(18:07):
going to happen. Because they got Notre Dame in this thing,
the semifinals, which are on I think the huge ratings huge.
Not a great year in terms of calendar wise to
get them, but it's gonna get huge ratings because you
have not Youre Dame, you have Alabama. If you have
just Southern schools like you had last year, no, boy no,
(18:31):
and you know, just it's not great. Now it'll get
really good if they have USC and Notre Dame and
Texas and then they have Alabama or Ohio State or
something like that in the future. But what what college
football wants is like, hey, why can't we have a
playoff like the NFL has. Meanwhile, the NFL is like,
(18:52):
you know, here's the thing. Our system is not perfect. No, no, no,
the NFL is a perfect system, is it? The Chargers
could end up tied for the best record in the
a f C and not get a home game. Now
(19:13):
I get a home game. Why is that? Because they
would be behind the kid they could win the next
two games. Have just beaten the Kansas City Chiefs and
not get a home game. If Kansas City wins the
next two games as well, that might sound like crazy town,
(19:34):
do you But that's the reality of the playoffs. Do
you know why? Because there is no perfect system. It
just isn't. Even though the Patriots, the Steelers, and the
Texans would have inferior records, inferior records, Chargess will be
(19:54):
playing on the road. They could be tied for the
best record in the sport if if the Saints lose
any of their next two games not play a home games. Additionally,
the NFL knows how to manufacture parody, right, don't believe me?
Who are the teams who are in the playoffs last year?
(20:17):
You remember Jacksonville Jaguars. How are they doing this year?
In No Bueno? Tennessee Titans They're gonna get in Buffalo
Bills They're gonna get in Tennessee. Could Buffalo will not?
All right? Pittsburgh likely will, although the Ravens. Ravens still
(20:38):
could pass the Pittsburgh Steelers is not out of the
realm of possibility. Of Pittsburgh lose their last two games,
they could they could follow The Chiefs will make it
for a second consecutive year. Go look in the NFC,
who made it last year? Eagles right now, outside, looking
in the Vikings outside, looking in right the Falcons. They're
(21:00):
not making the playoffs this year. And the while the
Rams made it now the Seahawks appear poised to make
it as well. The fact is that almost every year,
half the teams that make the playoffs the previous year
don't make the playoffs. Why is that because the NFL
manufacturers parody. They have a salary cap. In addition to
that salary cap, they also um have have have schedules
(21:26):
that are different first place schedule, second place schedule, third
place schedule, fourth place schedule. You can't have that in
college football. Okay, the only salary cap they can really
provide is scholarship numbers and cost of attendance. But the
fact is that the rich are always going to get
richer and the poor are going to get poor, with
the exception of some outliers like when Kansas went to
(21:48):
the Orange Bowl. So you're comparing sports that are technically
the same. Comparing sports that are technically the same because
it's the same actual game. What's different is the construct
of the teams and the balance able to be created
(22:10):
by the league. And oh yeah, by the way, it's
good for the NFL when they have parody because it
makes all of these fans by season tickets. It's not
great for college football. Do you know why? I know
that because the numbers reflected as such when the best
teams win in college football or the big most supported
(22:30):
schools the Texas is the uscas the notes for Dames.
More people watch Falcons, Bills, Panthers, Jaguars, no shot at
a playoff, and they'll probably be one or two others
like the Titans that will fall fall victim as well.
Every year half the teams that make the playoffs don't
make it the next year. Let's get you to Isaac
(22:53):
Lowenkron for a quick update before David. Who is Alec
dan Buyer? Oh sorry, I heard I saw Isaac moment ago.
I didn't know has gone for the day. He was
here in the morning. Yeah, I saw you walking in
and I was like, what's he doing here? Like, oh, yeah,
he's working. I thought you just came in to say hi.
Oh no, no, I am here and I've got some
news for you. There could be changes for Atlanta Falcons wise,
(23:15):
as the NFL Network says, the team could be making
changes to the coaching staff under head coach Dan Quinn
this off season. According to the report, Quinny is safe,
but Steve sarkisi and the team's offensive coordinator is not,
as the team couldn't move on from Sarkisian and defensive
coordinator Mark Juan Manuel. Packers have been eliminated from the
postseason picture. Quarterback Erwin Rodgers suffered a groin injury in
(23:36):
their loss to the Bears on Sunday. Despite the no
playoffs hand the groin injury, head coach Jill Philbin believes
that Rogers will play Week sixteen against the Jets Boca
Ratone ball Tonight, you may be taking on Northern Illinois.
That's at seven o'clock Eastern times. Some notes from the NBA.
Lakers have sent forward Brandon Ingram to their G League
team for a rehab assignment. He's been out for about
two weeks because of an ankle injury. No Dennis Smith Jr.
(23:59):
For the MAVs tonight against the Nuggets. He's out because
of a risk injury. The Raptors believe forward Pascal Siaka
will return from a backage replay Wednesday against the Pacers,
while the Athletics says once Austin Rivers buy out from
the Sun's is complete, he will sign with the Memphis
Grizzlies and finally dug the Minnesota Twins. And I'll said,
we'll retire Joe Maher's number seven this season. The catcher
called it quits this off season after fifteen seasons with
(24:21):
the team. Will never be the most known number seven
in baseball. But I do like Joe Maher. He went
from being a guy who everybody loved to like Joe
Maller now didn't live up to, to like, yeah, you know,
I like Joe Maher. Like Joe Maher. I can't believe
I've been in this business long enough to uh complete
all of Joe Maher's career. Um our next guest is
(24:44):
I remember when he was drafted. People like dude, that guy.
I don't know. I'm not sure I can pick out
what a tight end is supposed to look like, but
that guy looks like the after photo for every workout video,
and he looks like what a tight end should look like.
And now the production on the field is art and
to follow. I don't know if you've been been following
this Brown's turnaround. It's been helped by David and Joeku
(25:05):
forty seven catches on the year, part of this team,
which now has a chance to make the playoffs, he's
kind of have to spend some time of this year.
On The Doug Gottlip Show on Fox Sports Radio, David,
how are you. I'm doing well? How are you doing good? Man? Um?
What what's it like going to work now as opposed
to early in the year when it felt like there
(25:26):
were some points left on the field and some games
you guys could have won great? You know obviously, Uh,
earlier this year we're going through a bunch of adversity,
but you know, not now it's great to start finally winning,
you know often, and uh we got to just you know,
keep this going. What what is actually different about the offense? Like, look,
(25:47):
we see the offensive production being different, and we can
try and figure it out ourselves, but you're in it
every day. What's changed so much about this offense? It's
just everyone being doted in, you know, at the one
on the same page and uh, playing for each other. Really,
David and Joku joining us on the Doug Otlips Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Baker's talked about how the coaching
(26:10):
staff now feels like it's holding you guys more accountable.
And we talked to a couple of people yesterday. They're like, look,
take what what take a kid like Callaway? Um, you know,
he does something and he comes off the field, doesn't
play for a couple of series at the end of
the game. How much more has that happened here the
last couple of weeks where you feel like even in
(26:30):
game there's a certain amount of accountability. Yeah, there's there's
great accountability. You know, it's it's our job to, you know,
play our best, and if we can't play our best
and you know those then you know we're not We're
not gonna have this up anymore. So you know, we
we take that very seriously and we're all focused. You know,
(26:51):
we're all we're all focused on the one thing each week,
which is winning. David and Joeku joining us in the
Doug Gotlips Show on Fox Sports Radio. If you run
into some buddies from Jersey or some guys from you
and they're like, dude, give me your best Baker Mayfield story.
What is it? Uh? I gotta think about that. One.
That's a that's a great question. I think, all right,
(27:15):
what about like in game, give me something in game
in the huddle that he said or he's done that.
You're like, man, that's that's you gotta understand. This is
Baker Mayfield. Um probably I think the opening game or
the Tampa game, he was he was going for a
quarterback sneak and uh ran that dema field and got tackled.
(27:39):
I guess the defender collided helmets with Baker, and uh
you know, Baker jumped up and was very hYP you know,
so I just laugh at myself because you know, you
can you can see that the fierce in them and
and it's great. Yeah, he's like he's like the good
kind of crazy, right is that Is that a fairway
of putting it? The good kind of crazy? Like like, look,
(28:01):
he's like he's he's like wired, Like Baker's kind of
a psycho, but it's a good psycho. Like it's it's
all it comes from a really good place. But he's
just he's got this, you know, he's he I love what.
I woke up feeling dangerous today, right, Like you're like, man,
what's up with that? Dude? But I like it. I'm
I'm in, I'm yeah, he's he's an interesting dude. Stug
(28:23):
Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. How does how
does it change? How does it happen where your team
goes from We've seen it with I think two teams
this year. Obviously the Chargers have been more successful, but
those are two franchises which, you know, fans I think
expect something to go wrong at big moments in the game.
Whereas now it does feel like different. Like end of
(28:44):
the game against Denver, it felt like something good was
gonna happen. Was that just me watching on TV? Or
is that reality? Um? Uh, how to answer that, But
like I feel like, you know, uh, now we're just
we're just all focused on you know, on winning. I
mean like at the end of the game, Uh, it
(29:06):
felt for me, it felt like we were all on
the same page. And it usually feel like that, you
know me ever feel like we're all like we're off
you know, but we did great things uh this this
past weekend and we just got to build off it.
You know. Yeah, no, no, no, no question, no question
about it. Doug got the Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um,
(29:26):
how much do you scoreboard? Watch because you might need
a little help obviously, gotta win your last two to
try and get in the playoffs. Like, can you believe
we've gotten to this point to where like it it
ain't crazy to think you guys would be now in
the playoffs. But a team people don't want to play
in the playoffs. Uh, well, we just got to control
what week control. You know that the most important things
for us is uh this week and then the following week,
(29:49):
and then we'll we'll see where we stand. But the
first thing, persons we have to, you know, do do
our job. What about you and your craft? What are
you doing better than earlier in this season or even
going back to last year. Um uh, this is my
second year, at the end of my second year, and
I'm I think I'm just learning more of the game. Really,
(30:12):
you know, I'm I'm twenty two years old. I got
drafted at twenty and uh I only played tight end
one year in in uh college. Really, so I think
I'm just learning more and more and uh with that
to help us, you know, Uh, Coach Simo, you know
we're gonna gonna do a great thing. No, no, I hope, no,
no question. Drafted young and a guy who hadn't played
(30:34):
the position a bunch. David and Joeku joining us on
The Doug Gottlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um, but
you know it's interesting, Like I'm not trying to trick
you and ask you questions, but you are very thoughtful
and wanting to make sure Like, look, I don't want
to say the wrong thing. Whatever, did you know? I
I understand? But is that did you did? Heart? Is
did hard knocks affect you guys where you're like, man,
(30:54):
we gotta be careful. What we're saying was did hard
knocks make it kind of different? Especially in training camp? Yeah?
It was. It was different. I mean in a sense
of just you know, more cameras. But uh, you know,
we weren't really trying to like hide, you know much.
You know, it was focusing on ball mostly. David and
Joeku joining us on the Doug Otlib Show on Fox
(31:15):
Sports Radio. When you when you don't grow up in
in Cleveland in Ohio, do you feel yet any Bengals rivalry?
Like for them, this is their chance to knock you
guys off a pedestal because now you're playing good football.
Even your records aren't that different. The seasons are completely different.
Have you been there long enough to feel any sort
(31:36):
of rivalry? Oh? Yeah, for sure, for sure, Yeah, definitely. Uh,
we're we're really excited, you know, to play the bank book.
And you know, I've been here for about, you know,
two years, and I definitely feel it, you know, actually
immediately when when I got here, I felt it. And
I'm really excited for um. Alright, Well, I don't know,
I don't know fifty five is playing, but watch out
(31:58):
for perfect. That guy he he got he got a
little bit of it. He's got a little bit of
of a of a history, you know. Especially, we're gonna
we're gonna have a really fun game, really fun game.
I can't wait. Well you wake up feeling dangerous as well,
not just your quarterback. Continued health and success and a
merry Christmans you. By the way, number one gift you
(32:18):
want this year for Christmas is what the number? Uh
my wistless? I want a new soccer ball. If you
can get that for me, that'd be great. Who's your team?
Didjoe man? You fired their coach today? Who's your man? No?
Their managers are coach, isn't it he's said coach? It
(32:41):
doesn't matter. I call it a field on a pitch. Sorry,
I'm arguing with my staff here. Who's your squad? Who's
your squad? Um? I like a lot of teams. I
can't pick one right now. I don't want to get
anybody angry. I have a bunch of friends on team,
so I'm gonna I'm just gonna go neutral here on
this one. Are you really concerned that some British soccer
(33:02):
player is gonna be listening to my radio program or
download this interview? Be like, dude, I thought in Joe
Coup was my boy. Then he goes on Gottlieb and
said and says he likes Chelsea man f that guy. Yeah, actually,
definitely not saying anything on this one. Fair enough, man,
Have a merry Christmas, best of luck this weekend. Thanks
for joining us, David, David and Joku joining us in
(33:24):
the Doug Gottlip Show. He's the you know you know
he is, um Like he's like Terrell Harris just like this?
Who else? Um? What's the dude's name with the Phoenix
Suns their best player? Why am I? Why am I
blanking on his name? Devin Booker? Right when you get
like in basketball. Sometimes you'll draft these like eight dude
that just turned eighteen. But you can watch you like,
(33:46):
you know, if we do it right, like we can
create that's David and Joku, Like he's like, wow, they
took David and Joker like he's barely been playing ten
and then like you watched him movie, Like okay, I
get it. They're gonna make him into a tight end.
That's pretty awesome to watch. Yeah, look, Baker's a good
(34:07):
kind of crazy. There's a good kind of crazy and
a bad kind of crazy. The bad kind of crazy
is muttering to them, muttering to themselves and and doing
and doing what oh fire, You'll remember this uh Redskins
quarterback who headbutted the wall and broke his neck. Yes,
Gus Frot. That's the bad kind of crazy, like whoa,
(34:29):
bam broke my neck. Then there's Baker Mayfield, which is
whoa and get everybody excited? Good kind of crazy bad.
There's a very thin line between the two. But there's
two kinds of crazy. M v P race in the
NFL is really close this season. I'll tell you who's
in the lead for me next. Be sure to catch

wherever you're aheaded. Promise you're cooking for Christmas. Oh, I'm
cooking it up, Doug. So is it is it Christmas
Eve or Christmas Day? Which is the big day? Ah?
They're both big. Christmas Eve we spent with his aunt's
family and Christmas Day we spend with my family. You
don't mix the Hatfields and McCoy's, is it. Uh? No?
(35:34):
I guess not. No, we haven't really. We just kind
of they do their thing and then we go and
do our thing with my It's yeah, separate separation of
church and state for quite a while. There. There you go.
Let's get to a game, shall we. This is game
time on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Dude, what about you,
(35:58):
Dan Buyer. The Christmas plans will be here three o'clock
Eastern time on this Thursday, and then I'll go home
and have I don't know, just uh yeah. The family
will come over and the wife's side of the family
will be over for Christmas. Everybody is done. That family
is not life. We're gonna have the meal for the
(36:18):
Christmas today. I gotta do the work first, but hey,
happy to do it. The NBA going on that day,
Bucks playing early, so it'll be fun. Speaking of playing games, oh,
I guess we're gonna play. Rank come here, Doug Alright,
Saints gott a win last night, but Drew Brees was Yeah,
(36:39):
So rank your top three NFL MVP candidates through fifteen
weeks of the season. I think this is a big
week for m v P. I do too. Um. I
think Andrew lux one, I do. I think Andrew lux one. Um.
(36:59):
I think Pat Mahomes is too, and I think Philip
Rivers is three. Al Right, Breeze is off the board.
Saints defense has been carrying them. He hadn't. He haven't
been playing well. He's just having been playing well. And
some of it I think is people figuring them out.
And matching them up. And some of it is he's
not as good outdoors, you know. Some of it is
he's you know, I've drew Brees. They've taken a lot
(37:21):
off his plate the last two years for a reason.
Some of that reason has to be that maybe he's
not capable of carrying it like he used to. But
you know, look there's another guy we haven't mentioned. Russell
Wilson should get consideration, Like does anybody carry an offense
like Russell Wilson? You watch him, you watch him every week?
What do you think? No, it's it's Chris Carson has
(37:42):
been in that offensive line has been so good. It's
really to me, Doug, what it's really done is shown
what type of quarterback Russell Wilson probably is meant to be.
Because if you're running the ball so much, he has
such a nightmare when they don't run it, whether it
be being it on a zone read, whether it be
(38:03):
bootlegs or like, it's very difficult to defend him. But
I don't think he's he hasn't carried the offense like
maybe some of these guys. No, no, no, I I
agree I agree in terms and like, look this past
weekend Andrew Luck didn't carry the offense either, right, it
was Marlon mack carre at the offense. But it's more
what he the dynamic he gives them, which is a
little bit more my point. Look, I don't actually think that,
(38:26):
and I would agree with you that I I don't.
I don't actually think that Russell Wilson is a top five,
you know, quarterback in terms of thrower, but because he
has because he has such a unique skill set and
when you combine it when they have a running game,
he's ridiculously hard to come And by the way, it's
okay that he's not top five. You don't have to be. Yeah,
(38:48):
exactly exactly, maybe top ten, but yeah, it's okay if
he's not top five. Rank your top three coaches for
the NFL season coaching wise, who would be coach of
the Year Coach the Year? Um Matt Nagy has to
be up there, doesn't he? I would think so Anthony
Lynn up there, and I also think Anthon. One thing
(39:10):
about the Anthony Lynn is, like I, he doesn't do
much in terms of A and excell and onia to death,
but he has an offensive coordin or defensive codin here,
and so he kind of ceoes it, but he's been
pretty good. Um, but I'll go Andy Red, Andy Reid one,
I go Matt Naggi two, and I'll go uh, I'll
(39:32):
go Frank re Reich three, Frank Riig. I think what
the Colts have done is remarkable. Alright, Doug rank the
three NBA teams in Texas from best to worst. Because
if the playoffs started today, and I know it's early,
we're only a third of the season, and but the
Mavericks would be in the playoffs while the Rockets and
Spurs would be out. Yeah, I'll go Houston, MAVs Spurs. Man.
(39:54):
The Spurs just don't have a point guard. They just
have You have so many injuries that position, you know
it was gonna hurt that and then you know they're
they're trying. They got two guys, you know, they're they're
best perimeter players a mid rain shooter, and their best
post up player is a mid rain shooter. And this
is a three and D league, so they got some
mismatch parts there. One more from the NBA. The Lakers
right now would be the four seed in the West.
(40:16):
Rank your top four Laker players for importance to that team.
This season Lebron one coose too for importance, right, yes,
Tyson Chandler three, Tyson Chandler three, Remember he finishes games
and also unbelievable leadership, veteran presence. And then I would
(40:39):
put Ingram four, who's not yet to have the season
they want him to have, no, and he's gonna be
on a rehab assignment with the G League after his
ankle injury a couple of weeks ago. This is game
time on the Doug Gottlieb Show, Doug Gotlib Show here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, music, So what about
(40:59):
you Christmas? Like? This is the first year being engaged
on Christmas? Um what are you gonna do? Christmas Eve?
Portion of my family will be coming up to the
in laws. We'll be doing some Christmas Eve there the
laws and Christmas Day down to my parents house. No
mixing of church and state. You know, you guys can
(41:19):
all get together. Actually, if you would listen, I said.
Part of my family is coming up, the part that
likes the potential in laws, the part that doesn't there
like stay away. They just have other parts like my
brother and his wife are doing stuff with her family
on Christmas Eve. So um, as a kid. Did you
open presents the night before? One present? The night before
(41:42):
Christmas Morning? Everything's Christmas Morning? Yeah? I got a great
Christmas Morning story else here for you. Plus, as you
just heard, I don't have Drew Brees on my m
v P list. There are one reason, though, the Saints
should still be taken seriously. Next. Fox Sports Radio has

I love the Jeff Ireland story. It's actually where I
want to start. You guys know who Jeff Ireland is.
When I say that name, You're like, M heard that name?
(42:23):
The name? Heard it last night? Maybe mentioned once in
the Monday night football telecast. Um hm uh. Jeff Ireland
is formerly the director the general manager of the Miami Dolphins.
You're like, oh, I remember him. He was the Dez
Bryant guy. Do you remember the story Dez Bryant got
(42:44):
all heated because Jeff Ireland asked him if his mom
was a prostitute, right, And it got really really ugly
in the media how could you ask if somebody's which
sounds right you has ever heard the full context of it?
There's a full context. Jeff Ireland interviewing Dez Bryant before
(43:05):
the NFL Draft. What'd your dad do for a living?
That's Bryant, My dad was a pimp. What did your
mom do for a living growing up? My mom worked
for my dad, Jeff Ireland, is your mom a prostitute?
Does Briant what right? Like? I don't know. Maybe maybe
(43:26):
he could have said, d do do pims have bookkeepers?
Was he she a scheduler? But it is actually a
really good follow up question showing he's listening who he's listening.
Jeff Ireland, I think has done a really good job.
(43:47):
He is the assistant general manager and the college scouting
director for the New Orleans Saints. And he might say, well,
Mickey Loomis as a general manager just here where Mickey
Loomis is a manager of both the Pelicans and the Saints.
So the idea that he's super invested in the day
(44:07):
to day, not the operations he is during with the Saints,
but he's he's able to to go and get all
these players, like, look, the Saints have had to rebuild
their defense, rebuild different parts of their offensive line, and
you look at what they've done in the NFL draft,
you look at their defensive frighting like, you know what,
they've done a good job. Do I think they're a
(44:27):
great defense? No? Do I think they're what the They
have the personnel of the Chargers. No? Do I think
they had the personnel of the Texans. No, But considering
their defense was the laughing stock of the NFL, and
it was put in bad positions because of how quickly
they scored or got rid of the football. With the
offense have done a really good job. Saints need only
(44:51):
one win in the next two games to clinch home
field advantage to the playoffs, and currently they're tied for
seventh and defensive points per game end don't break if
you take out the forty eight points that they gave
up Week one of the season, and most people don't
take the first four weeks all that seriously. In the NFL,
they're tied for second in defensive points per game, right,
(45:15):
Remember that was they caught Fitz Magic at peak fits Magic.
They ran into a buzz saw they did not see coming.
Now their offense has become pedestrian at times, huh, even
last night. But their defense has shown ability to make plays,
(45:40):
get stops, and Drew Brees much like any other kind
of past superstar. And I do think past superstar. I
don't think he's the superstar he used to be. You
best believe you still respect him, and you especially respect
him at home. I mean kind of amazing what's happened
(46:02):
with Drew Brees here, as it's completely fair to point
out that he has not been playing the same level
of football, and that football has gotten a lot more physical,
and that they haven't been able to since losing Ted Gin.
They don't really have anybody takes the top off of defense,
and they had to kind of trying to find ways
to make it work. But Drew Brees in a dome
(46:27):
is pretty darnnasty. Drew Brees on the road is beatable.
Look at any sort of home road split and it's
night and day in terms of his numbers. But the
defense is what gives him a chance. Whereas the Rams
(46:48):
defense team that they played teams that they beat, has
suddenly become a bit of a question mark. You look
around the NFC and who else if you don't like
the Saints. Who do you like? Do you like the Rams? Yeah?
God's not playing that well. The defense seems to have holes,
and they lost a home playoff game last year. So
let's not act like the Rams are suddenly unbeatable at home.
(47:10):
Fair go around the NFL. Is that the Dallas Cowboys.
We've seen the Cowboys not score a point on the
road against the Colts. Do you think they can keep
up with Drew Brees in the Dome? The answer is
probably not all right. And as much as the Chicago
(47:30):
Bears look like they have with Roquan Smith, the type
of linebacker who can really really run that defense would
be nasty in the dome, even if he's not what
he used to be. Robinsky or Breeze in a dome?
Is it even a question? Now? You might say to yourself, Godly, look,
(47:51):
the records don't lie. But there is something powerful to
watching their offense struggle and knowing that normally when the
Saints are good it's because of he's not in spite
of breeze. But maybe that's reason to buy in even more.
You know, they figured out a way to use Taysom
Hill as a runner to trick you to run some
(48:15):
hurry up, to run some tempo, to run some zone read,
to run a bunch of different stuff. The whole thing
just kind of works together. Look, I'm not huge on
the Saints. I don't. I think they were playing better
earlier in the season. But the defense is clearly improved,
and they're all flawed, whether it's the Seahawks, the Rams,
(48:37):
the Cowboys, the Bears, the Vikings, the Saints, and remember
they should have beaten the Vikings last year in Minnesota
if not for Hown't Flukey play a mirror. They don't
call play a miracle unless it was Flukey. I just
you know, you gotta buy into somebody. And if I
(49:00):
told you New Orleans doesn't have to lose, leave home
and they're gonna play Carolina who if they don't, they
don't shut down Cam. They should all right, they don't
shut down Cam. They should like, who are you? So
they're gonna win at least one, if not both, of
these next two games and the only one win in
order to secure home field throughout the playoffs. I know. Yeah.
(49:23):
By the way, the Super Bowl this year has played
in Atlanta. Do they play inside, inside or outside in
the Super Bowl? Thank you? So I'm not huge on
a team that scored ten against the Cowboys and twelve
against the Panthers. I think it's gonna be fascinating to
(49:45):
see them against the Steelers, a team that can light
up the scoreboard, and it's gonna, you know, test their
defensive backfield, which was so decrepit that they chose to
go after Eli Apple who had worn out as welcome
in the Big Apple. They're not perfect, but they're way
better than they've been. They're wear more balanced than they've been.
(50:07):
And if they don't have to leave the Dome, which
is a strong likelihood Kamara, Ingram Breeze, Thomas Benjamin Watson.
But that's not even the part to like. The part
to like is their sudden a discovery of the other
side of the football, the idea that they can actually
(50:29):
play defense now, they can actually get stops now, they
can actually get after the quarterback now. And if they
do that, who what are the biggest stats in football?
Biggest stats in football are you know, third down conversion percentage.
It's not like gross yards, it's how many points do
(50:50):
you allow? They'd be second if you took out that
first week, right, They're not great, great on getting off
the field on on third down. Their middle of the league,
but not terrible. And can you create turnovers? And they
have you know, their giveaway there you go, giveaway, takeaway,
you take away, giveaway. Remember the year that they won
(51:14):
the thing, they led the league. This year their eighth
in the league and giveaway takeaway, that's good enough. You
gotta have be essentially a top ten defense to give
your quarterback a chance. And they're gonna give their quarterback
a chance in the best possible environment, playing at home.
And that's Drew Brees. And he's got a running threat,
he's got several throwing threats, he's got experienced and there's
nobody else you love in the NFC. Daniel Jeremiah from
(51:38):
the NFL Network joins the show. Upcoming next, I'll ask
him what he thinks of the Saints suddenly slowing offense.
What do you do if you're Carolina with Cam Newton
and Chargers Ravens could be the game of the weekend.
The Chargers had enough time to prepare to stop the
college style, high school style offense Lamar Jackson as engineered
(52:00):
to this winning streak. Next, be sure to catch live

You can see him on the NFL Network. You can
download his podcast with Bucky Brooks called Move the Sticks,
and if you live in l A you can listen
(52:43):
to him on the Chargers radio broadcast. Let's start there.
It looks like the Ravens are gonna move on from
Joe Flacco. Um, but the Chargers have had a couple
of extra days to prepare for this offense, and the
Ravens will have one less day to prepare for the Chargers.
Do the Chargers have the makeup in terms of their
(53:04):
defensive style to stop what the Ravens are doing? I
think so I think from a speed standpoint, they'll match
up fine. Um. You know, when you look at the
way the Charges has been playing, they primarily want dime
defense right now since injury to pairman. Uh. So you'll
see Adrian Phillips is a safety that's down in the
box functioning as a linebacker. Next to to Davis Brown
(53:26):
is an undersized linebacker who can really roll. So they've
got plenty of speed. You know. In terms of trying
to match Lamar Jackson, I think that the challenge will
be more with them running the ball between the protocles
with the gust bus there, with the way he's been running,
That'll that'll be uh their challenge defensively. But I actually
think matchup wise, they you know, they're they're pretty good
there to me that the game is going to be
(53:47):
decided on the other side. And I think the extra
time to prepare will actually benefit the Chargers offense more
than their defense because you will not see a more multiple,
uh more exotic look than you'll see from the Baltimore
Ravens defense. And but you will also I don't know
if you the weaponry that if healthy, if healthy, that
they're gonna throw out there I don't think anyone in
(54:09):
the NFL has, I mean especially Kansas City. You would
have said, when fully healthy before they had to make
a change at running back, would have been the only one.
But especially if they get Hunter Henry back for the playoffs.
Tell me the team that's got keenan All and Hunter Henry,
Melvin Gordon, Uh, Mike Williams, uh Tyrrell Williams. I mean
(54:31):
it's Austin Ekeler, like, dude, who It's unbelievable how many
dudes they got. Yeah, they've got a punch. And you
know the interesting thing, Well, if if Melvin Gordon plays,
We'll wait and see if he plays, and he's close.
He is a huge difference maker because he gives him
something that they've missed, even though they've won games at
Pittsburgh and they win the game in Kansas City. Gives
(54:53):
them just a little more physicality in the run game. Um, look, dude,
it is a nice job. You see Dietrez Newsome out
there straight out of Western Carolina on them on that
stage playing well, Justine Jackson playing well. I mean, they've
done a nice job, but they don't have the physicality
that Gordon can bring in and I think now you're
just kind of patient and be very patient. He was
Hunter Henry. I don't know if we'll see him during
(55:13):
the regular season. Might even be something you just you
throw them out there during the playoffs. But man, the
it's tough to match up with all the different things
they can throw at you. And Philip Rivers is as
good as it gets in terms of finding the one
he wants. I I like Mahomes more than some people.
I do realize that some of that risk. He's not
risk averse yet, which is good and bad. It'll come
back and get you. But I also think they're a
(55:36):
different team without Kareem Hunt. And I'm not a huge
Sammy Watkins guy, but they're a different guy without Sammy Watkins.
Tell me I'm wrong, Well, I don't think that they're
I don't think they're a complete team yet, you know,
when you when you we talked about the defense, that's
a whole other story. Now they have got rushers they
can throw at you. Their outstanding. The back of their
defense is not good, but that would be on the
(55:57):
front burner for me if I was looking in Kansas
and what to do in the offseason. But to me
on the on the offensive side of the ball, maybe
even more so than current hunt. Um. I was talking
about this and I said, you know, during this time
of year, it is now when you have a big,
physical wide receiver because the speed guys. You know, you've
seen a little bit with Brandon Cooks, We've seemed a
little bit with Tyreek kill Um. You start to wear
(56:20):
down a little bit, you know, and you get into
some get some bad weather, it's cold outside. You know
who didn't struggle to the night was alshon Jeffrey. Because
side doesn't matter if you're if your coverage, that size
still plays. I don't know that Kansas City has one
of those big physical wide receivers. Now they have a
tight end obviously in Kelsey's a big time. I think
they need to find somebody could be a little bit
more physical on the outside. Doug gotlib show here on
(56:42):
Fox Sports Radio. What do you make a last Night's
game where New Orleans survives Carolina even though Cam Newton
can't throw a football? Yeah, I mean New Orleans found
a way. I mean I remember when m m A
first started. Doug like the UFC and they would announce
the fighters and they'd say this is a wrestler going
up again, the boxer, this guy, that judo fighter going
up against the jiu jitsu artist. And then it became
(57:04):
the point where you just had to be well rounded. Uh.
When I look at the Saints, I think it's encouraging
because it's not like this is just a passing team. Now,
this is a team that can play physical and grinded
if you have to grind it defensively, they can rush
the pass or we knew that. Now the back end
with the Apple coming around, Um, they're starting to make plays.
So I think when you get in the postseason, you've
got to be able to win kind of a variety
(57:25):
of ways. Can't be a one dimensional team. Uh. And
I think that would be encouraging to me from the
Saint at that point. I think offensively, you know, kind
of their sputtering. I think that'll go away once they
get back inside the dome. Yeah. No, I I that's
almost exactly. Well. I went out word for word, but
kind of the general gist of what I just said,
what do you do with Cam? Well, I would shut
(57:46):
him down if I was Carolina because he doesn't look right,
you know. I mean, Cam is never gonna be you know,
the most accurate thrower in the NFL. But he was
actually playing pretty well earlier this year. Um, it was
had been more accurate than we had ever seen him.
So to me, he's clearly not healthy, clearly not right. Uh.
And to me, if if I was, I just look
at it from a different perspective because I'm looking at
(58:08):
it going if I'm up in Buffalo right now, I'm
pulling Josh Allen and saying, hey man, you're having success
and you're running hard, and that's great, but just use
this as a lesson here at Cam Newton. I mean,
as big as you are, Cam Newton's even bigger, you
cannot hold up like this. So we've got to find
a way to adjust a little bit. Yeah, which is
what I said. I said, like, look if Cam Newton,
(58:28):
who's the biggest physical like I mean, but he's not
just in like other guys are. He's an amazing physical specimen.
If his body can't hold up, how can Houston? How
can how can Baltimore expect him? More diminutive athletic quarterbacks
to hold up to the beating that they're going to take.
(58:49):
You can't, You absolutely can't. And it's funny. I don't know.
I had no idea that you was going or thinking
that or talking about that, but that was that was
the first thing that came to mind, because he has
always been kind of the poster child. Well, us, you're
built like Camp Newton, you can't play like this. Well
even Cam Newton has broken down. Um, so it's just
hard to sustain that over time. Dania Jeremiah guest in
the Dug Out Live show on Fox Sports Radio. Um,
(59:11):
are we giving too much credit to Andrew Luck if
we say he should be in this m v P discussion, Well,
I think you've got the Comeback Player of the Year
award wrapped up. Um, But I would say in the
m v P discussion, Yeah, I mean I think he
deserves to mention there, no question. Um. But I almost
think the Colts the bigger story with them. And Andrew's
been phenomenal. We knew he was really good. Um. I
(59:33):
think just the rebirth of the offensive line or the
existence of one, I should say, Um, and what they've
done defensively and got so much faster. Sometimes it's like,
let's not make this game more complicated than this. Let's
not make uh scouting more complicated. And you look at
the best defenses in the NFL, Doug, they're all fast,
and that Colts team was so slow. You watch them now,
(59:53):
those those two linebackers. Everybody knows about Darius Leonard, the
kid playing next to him Walker, he's a low force
six guy. I mean they fly all over the field.
That they do. They do fly all of the field.
How what's what's the biggest issues with the Patriots? I mean,
Cronk is I mean I said it the other day
on TV. But you know George Fan. The Seahawks play
(01:00:15):
with the six offensive line and with George Fan playing
tight end, I think George Fan runs better than Gronk does.
Right now, Um, he can't move. I mean, it's it's sad.
It's sad to watch. He's a whole same level player,
one of the greatest players in his position in the
history of the NFL. But he can't gear down. Um,
he can't change direction, he can't adjust on the move.
He just can't. He's just you can tell. It's obviously
(01:00:37):
he is nowhere near being healthy. Um, so you don't
have any mismatched players. Edelman is not really He's a
nice number two, you know, mismatch guy. He's not a
number one mismatch guy. And you get to the top
of the drop. I know people were killing Brady with
the you know it made one bad decision. I challenge
you go watch that tape and tell me what Brady
could have done that he really didn't do. I mean,
here's nowhere to go with the football. No, I mean, look,
(01:00:59):
this is it's it's interesting and it's also interesting that
they're not able to and part of it was playing
against Pittsburgh. But I do think that they knew some
of this earlier in the year and tried to use
Sonny Michelle Moore as kind of a power running game,
and they seem to try and get away from it
against Pittsburgh and do what they always do against Pittsburgh,
which is fine mismatches. They just didn't have any. They
don't have any. No, they don't really have guys. And
(01:01:19):
I know there was some hope about Josh Gordon being
that guy. Maybe he'll prove me wrong and be that
guy in the postseason. But nine times out of ten,
when you've been unreliable, um, you know over a period
of years that that that doesn't change. Daniel Jeremiah joining
us in the Doug Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio.
You buying in the Browns. I think I'll buy into
(01:01:39):
him this way. I think if you know, they if
they were going to extend the season by two weeks,
they'd get in the postseason and they'd be pretty tough
to beat. Um. They've got a lot of talent on
the roster. Uh, But you know, I just don't think
there's enough runway left for them to get into the postseason.
So they'll they'll take They'll take solace in the fact
that I think they got a chance to be five
team and that's a big step from where that that
organization has been, and there'll be somebody able to be
(01:02:02):
paying attention to coming in the next year. I'm a
convert to the Church of Jeremiah, and we talked about
luck a little bit previously. I said that that game
Colts Cowboys was tractor and trailer? Is that too simplistic?
Is that I've quoted it several times over on Cowherd
Show Arlot today as well. Is that too simplistic a
way to point out the difference. There's a lot of
(01:02:23):
other differences between those two teams, but the difference in
quarterback is Luck is a tractor and Doc is a trailer. Yeah,
I mean that's that's why we came up with it.
You know, that's what it what it describes. It's great
imagery and you just kind of see that um and
you know it's it's sometimes it takes a while for
these guys to kind of define themselves on what on
what they are in that regard. Some guys can grow
(01:02:44):
from being a trailer into a truck, but there is
no clear evidence of a truck than Andrew Luck. And
you could tell with Doc he kind of had everything
else has to go right for him, you know, in
order for them to be successful. There's nothing wrong. There's
teams have won Super Bowls with trailers have not trusts. Yeah,
trying to have every thing else going for trying to
admitted to it to us as well, like he he
try to. Dealford talked about it, Uh, talked about it yesterday.
(01:03:07):
Eagles go in and beat the Rams. Let's start with
the Rams. What's wrong with golf? Well, they can't stretch
the field, so everything is shrunk. And I've been using
the basketball for just saying, look, they're they're playing five
on five half court right now. They've got to find
a way where they can stretch the field. And part
of that is because they haven't held up well in protection.
He's been getting hit. Part of it is because they
(01:03:28):
haven't run the ball quite as well. So when you run,
when you run it well, you you forced them to
drop a safety down. You get more single high safety looks,
you can take more shots. So it kind of all
goes together with why that's happening. But when they have
been able to get those uh, those chunks down the
field and then the turnovers have coming bunches. Yeah, okay,
so so the basketball trump would be, uh, people are
(01:03:50):
shrinking the cord on them, that's what that. They're having space,
they're having spacing issues. They don't remember remember remember when
we were like we're on your fourteen or fifteen and
you had full or as you go and just run
let's just run full fours and there's just so much
space in the room. Um like that. They're they are
very much in the half court environment and there are
a lot of dudes out there. Is it fixable? Well,
(01:04:12):
I mean I think to me, it starts with being
able to, you know, get more physical upfront. They're gonna
have to go you know, established the run more than
they probably want to. Um. So to me, you know,
that's where it's got to start. I think that is
something you can you can do. The goodness is they've
got to somewhat get right opponents ahead of them, you
know what. You know what's interesting about that? Okay, So
(01:04:32):
can I use what can we talk basketball and football
kind of combined? Alright? So here's here's the thing. A
lot of young basketball coaches, especially college but guys get
a shot and they always like, you know, like I
get the job from the old man, and we're gonna
play faster, we're gonna shoot quicker, right, And they do,
and they take more threes. It turns out they take
more questionable shots, they don't play as good a defense,
(01:04:53):
and turns out the old man's way of playing a
little bit slower, a little bit more conservatively ends up
working out. In football, all kind of feels like the
same way with McVeigh, right, Like he's young, he's got
all these ideas, and we'll we'll give you a million
different looks up the exact same you know, formation running
Levin's or whatever, the same personnel groupings and we'll throw
the football. When you know some of the old school
(01:05:15):
way of just lining up and smashing somebody time and
again does actually work. Yeah, No, I think there's something
too that. The only thing I would say is if
you know his style with the way McVeigh does it,
with everything coming off that same look, get under center,
run the ball, come you know, workoff play action. To me,
if they're playing well up front, I think some of
(01:05:36):
the slippage in the performance of the offensive line. Um,
it maybe is outside of mcveigh's control there because if
they were still playing as well as they were last year,
even the beginning portionate this year. I still think this
could work, and I think it could work into the postseason.
But man, they just gotta play better. Yeah, yeah, they
they do have to play better. Um. Last thing Eagles,
(01:05:58):
why they look so different? Well, I mean, look, one
of the things offensively with Nick Foles, when you go
back and watch the tape is he was just finding
the one on one matchups and al shot Jeffrey got
Louis as everybody knows. Um. But you know, look, there
was the numbers that Earth had put up were astronomical,
and some people looked at that and said, man, he's
he's locked onto it's a little bit, and folds Is
(01:06:22):
is distributing the ball a little bit more so that
that definitely was a factor more than anything else. They're
healthier on the offensive line, which means they're protecting, which
means they're able to run the ball um and then defensively,
Michael Bennett is kind of gun in the uh gun
and the delirium. It looks like the Michael Bennett from
four years ago. I mean he's been dominant up there.
You know, Fletcher Cox is going to do his thing.
(01:06:43):
Brandon Graham. They've got power rushers coming off the edge,
so a lot of times you'll see rush inside outs.
You've got power inside speed outside, so you push the
pocket inside and speed on the outside collapses that they
do it the opposite. They've got power from the outside
and they got to speed inside and they've been getting
home awesome stuff. Look, I look forward to us seeing
you Saturday night. I may actually you'll get a texted me.
(01:07:04):
I mean need a couple of passes. Believe it or not,
Charger games suddenly really hard to get tickets. It's unblow
It's unbelievable. Like I I said, a text like hey,
can I get Can I get four? Maybe six for
Saturday night? They're like, dude, I gotta ask for a
favor to get you too. I was like, what, like
I used to I used to be used to be
(01:07:24):
able to walk up people would pay you to go
in and see the Chargers because they didn't want to
it is. It is the hot ticket. I may be
standing next to you while you're calling the game with
Matt money Smith DJ. Thanks so much for joining us.
All right, I am gonna take advantage by the way
of my connections and get some passes. Yeah, it's crazy,
not really surprising though. I mean, there'll be plenty of
(01:07:47):
plenty of brand new Chargers. Uh T shirts with that
still the streak that the crease down the middle. You
don't you buy a T shirt and you got the
crease down the middle? Ra almost Do you wear a
T shirt first or do you wash it first? I'll
put it on, Doug. What about you music? Uh? Probably
wear it and even it has a crease down the
middle of the new shirt. Crease the new T shirt crease? Yeah,
(01:08:10):
why not? I'm asking a honest question, Like think about
it for a second, Like you get a brand new
shirt this. You know, I've never had a hardened, steadfast
opinion about if I should wear it or not. So
that's why I'm like, yeah, why not, what about you? Yeah,
I'll wear it right off the rock, right off the rack.
I don't actually I'll wear it if somebody else is
(01:08:30):
wearing it. I will still wear it. Right somebody gives
me the shirt off their back, I will. In fact,
let's get to Dann Buyer for some news, but he
got damn. I'll buy a lot of folded stuff. You know,
it's mostly on the hangar, right, It's true. T shirts
are on the hangar a lot. Yeah, yeah, you've got that.
The NFL Network reports the Falcons can be making some
changes this offseason to their coaching staff. Dan Quinn's job
appears to be safe, however, not the case for his
(01:08:52):
two coordinators. The report says that offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian
and defensive coordinator Mark jan Manual could be leaving Atlanta
after Week seventeen. One other Falcons note, running back Edo
Smith placed down injured reserve today, as was Green Bay
Packers running back Aaron Jones. He's done for the year
with the knee injury. Packers have the Jets in Week sixteen.
Aaron Rodgers expected to start despite suffering a groin injury
(01:09:16):
in their loss to the Bears this past week. In
Rams today waved wide receiver and kick returner Pharrell Cooper,
while the Seahawks signed running back both Scarborough off the
practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Poker raton ball Tonight,
U A B takes on Northern Illinois at seven o'clock
Eastern time. Manchester unitedisfied manager Jose Marino after two and
a half years of the job. Well, the Minnesota Twins
announced they will retire Joe Mawer's number seven this season
(01:09:38):
after the catcher called it quits after fifteen years in
the Majors. Lakers has sent forward Brandon Ingram to their
G League team for a rehab assignment, trying to return
from an ankle injury. No Dennis Smith Junior tonight for
the MAVs. He's out against the Nuggets because of a
risk injury. Finally, Hornets owner Michael Jordan came in fourth
in the forms list of the wealthiest celebrities of eighteen,
with his net worth estimated at one point seven billion. Dollars.
(01:10:01):
Doug back to you, Thank you Dan, Doug Gottlib Show,
Fox Sports Radio. I can't believe that music of all
people like Ryan Music just you know, like you just
just for the job you want. I think he wants
to be a a businessman. He's far and away the
best dressed person on our staff. I'm not even wearing
(01:10:22):
pants right now. I mean what I'm wearing would not
be legal in several states. This I believe not one
of them. Anyway. UM fascinated to to uh to talk
about this Aaron Rodgers topic. What do you do with
Aaron Rodgers and do you play them the last two
games this season when you're playing out the string and
what good can really really happen? Joe Philbin said, in
(01:10:46):
in the general sense, my philosophy as football players are
paid played to play football games, and football coaches are
paid to coach football games. So obviously we have to
go out there through the week. We never put out
any player that wasn't physically ready to go. But that's
my general philosophy and overall philosophy with it's Aaron Rodgers,
anybody else with the Green Bay Packers were football team
and we're in the business of winning football games. We
all want our players who are healthy to contribute to
(01:11:09):
the overall success of the team. What do you do?
What do you do? Look, I've said this before about
bowl games. I don't like the idea of not playing
in bowl games. One just because you're lying. You're like, well,
I need to get ready for the draft. You need
to go lift weights, work out, or you could. You
(01:11:31):
don't even have to play the whole game. Some of
these guys, they just draw attention to themselves. You don't
have to play. Just show up and don't play, like
on practice with you, or Hey, coach, I just want
to play the first quarter And can I get out
if it really is a meaningless game to you? Or yeah,
tell your coach, coach, I would prefer to not as
soon as we're playing. Well, if we get a lead,
I'd like to come out. Most of those guys actually
(01:11:52):
want to play. They have agents telling them somehow they
might get hurt. And the truth is that though you
can get hurt playing football, you can also get hurt
working out. But the football thing is interesting because the Packers,
unlike anybody else, they could use some draft picks, couldn't they,
And The only guy you can't get hurt in that
organization is Aaron Rodgers's making more money than God. Contract
(01:12:13):
kicks in again next year. They're five and eight on
the season. Is it worth trying to finish seven eight
and one? We have the sound of what Aaron Rodgers said.
Aaron Rodgers said, Hey, look, you know Brett Farve played
out the string here. Basically it was I remember being
behind Brett Farve and late in the season people thought
(01:12:35):
I might get in and there wasn't anything anything about
get I wasn't getting in. Why Because Bett Farve played
football every Sunday for the Packers. The culture of every
place is different. And I think it's important for Aaron
Rodgers to end this season with a couple of wins.
That means you have to play the whole time. But
seven eight and one and finishing off on a high note.
(01:12:59):
These are their bowl games. That's so it is. And
bowl games are important, like, no, they're not. Yes, they
are winning the n I T, winning the c I T,
winning a couple of games in your conference tournament. They're important.
It lost Aaron Jones. He's out with an m c L.
He's out for the rest of the rest of the season.
You're gonna throw de Sean Kaiser out there. You can
(01:13:21):
throw out there in the fourth quarter if you have
big lead against the Jets, maybe in the second half.

Doug Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio every day. This time
we like to play for you a portion of a
previous show on Fox Sports Warner Fox Sports Radio. We
call it and now this is what Chris Carter said
(01:14:04):
has happened to the Rams offense? This thing? Do you
remember the first like eight weeks of the season. We're
getting all these videos and sound bites of Sean McVeigh
and his photographic memory. Well, what did you run in
this play? Last year? I think we ran scout twenty
three on tailback angle and then what did you run on?
What was the last time Todd Gurley with your photographic
memory touched the ball twenty times? All right, don't you
(01:14:26):
do that for me? A little baby genius? Alright? Not
looking so smart right now? Like I mean, seriously, like
I mean, Todd Gurley is the best football player on
their offense. Why isn't he touching the ball? Well, I
would say that the offensive line isn't playing as well
and they're not getting him the ball as much, and
I think there's other issues there, but it's a great point.
It's the point that I made at Dana Jeremiah, which is, Hey,
(01:14:48):
sometimes young guys just get cute. They do. They get cute,
You get cute. And Sean McVeigh is he He seems
to be the real deal in terms of his level
of preparedness, his level of professionalism, but he hadn't been
a head coach before. He's an offensive guy, he's a
(01:15:08):
play college guy. And enough people tell you you're a genius,
and guess what you think you are a genius? You know,
I'd like to think that everybody has that inner, secure
in inner insecurity, that somebody like me has where somebody
can give you compliments, and he just died. I don't
believe him, But I don't think that's the case. I
think he he thinks he's good, he knows he's good.
(01:15:30):
He's been prepared to be good, and when got given
the opportunity, he's actually been good. But this is the
thing with young coaches, man, in basketball and football, it
is the same, the same. They get too cute because
(01:15:51):
they sat over there or they were next to a
guy that was a little bit more considering, like, man,
this stuff, h this is awful because then they prevent defense.
Let's just prevents you from winning. So you know, whereas
(01:16:11):
and it doesn't mean that that Frank Reich is always better,
But Frank Reich actually played the position. I think that's
more powerful. Think it's more powerful when you've played the position.
But young coaches in basketball they do the same thing.
They move over eighteen inches and suddenly they got all
the answers and they want to do it a lot
(01:16:33):
more offensive minded than their predecessor did than the old
man did. Right before last week, the Cowboys, well actually
four last uh five, six weeks ago, the Cowboys were
left for dead and jays Gary like, what's the mother?
Jason Caretty is so conservative, you know he doesn't go
for it. What is he doing? Like, dude? Jason Garrett
(01:16:55):
coaches like an old man who's experienced. He's done this
while also played the aition, knows what he has, knows
where his strengths are, and knows who the weaknesses are.
Put your guys in position to succeed more often. It
doesn't always work, but can play the percentages. Whereas young
guys try and get cute, they think they got all
(01:17:16):
the answers. I'm telling you, I coach with my dad,
and my dad was not. My dad was not some
X and O savant like I would. I could put
in sets and plays and offenses. He's like, man, how
did you do that? I was like, I don't know,
I've just been doing it. I know exactly how to
break it down, show guys things and let it so
they see him themselves and you know, and then have
(01:17:39):
them go and and there's a there's a way in
which you can install an offense and install plays and
ingrained in their minds so that they get it, they
understand the movement where they're supposed to be even when
you have a slow learner or the guys will pick
him up. But like, look, all that stuff is great.
If you don't rebound, you don't defend. You gotta have
pressure called pressure counters and an offensive basketball. You can
(01:18:00):
run whatever you want, but if somebody pressures you, you
can't break. Pressure doesn't matter, It doesn't matter. You know
this whole. Hey, let's go work for three pointers. If
you can't make, get and make lamps easy shots, get
to the free to line. Like wow, post ups don't
(01:18:21):
post ups aren't great, but post ups can give your
offensive players arrest. It Also, when you have a big
guy inside and guards outside, it gives you better defensive balance.
Such are back on defense and it's like body blows
to the defense where they get in foul trouble and
they gotta work through their backups and suddenly it becomes
a much easier game. Like the old school philosophy does work.
(01:18:41):
Some same things true in football. Nick right on the
rumors that the Lakers are targeting Anthony Davis. They have
now had seven years to build a legitimate contender around
a player who since he came into the league year three.
For Anthony Davis, who's top five m VP candidate. He's
been great from the word. Oh and you're looking at
the standings, Oh, they're fifteen and sixteen. And so when
(01:19:04):
you hear about the Lakers potentially making a midseason move
for a guy the caliber of Bradley Beale's, who's a
nice player, one of the reasons that would be so
insane is if Anthony Davis is going to execute what
is called his pre agency, his pre free agency, and
just say to a team, I'm not resigning here, so
if you want to get anything for me, you have
(01:19:26):
to trade me, similar to what happened with Kauai, similar
wrapping with Paul George. He can really dictate it by
then saying I'm also, by the way, only signing an
extension in one place. And if they have reason to
believe it's the it's Los Angeles, then of course they
should hold on to all their young guys and then
pair Lebron with the best big man he would ever
(01:19:46):
have been paired with by any enormous march. And this
is if he wants to go there, it's to me
an absolute no brainer. Yeah, well, I mean, he's obviously
raped by the same guy and Rich Paul It's one
of the working rumors in the NBA that this is
a this is a done deal. That's why they weren't
that bothered when Paul George didn't commit, and they weren't
that bothered when they didn't get Kauai Leonard. Yes, right music.
(01:20:08):
The interesting thing about Anthony Davis is We've seen this
a lot with other NBA stars. I'm doing little quotes
in smaller market teams that haven't had a ton of
success or a ton of postseason success, like, is he
really that good from your perspective, He's not one of
those stats stuffer kind of now because he helps you
both ends. It's like the quiet like I've heard you know,
(01:20:29):
I've heard uh gobbas cal herb, Like, well, Kauai only
averages to assist a game, like, okay, he's he's not
the pastor Steph Curry, but so Steph is a far
better shooter, well, a volume shooter and volume assist guy.
But Kauai gives you rebounding offensive and defensive, and he
(01:20:50):
gets He's fifteen times the defensive player, fifteen times the
defensive rebounder. There's value in it. Anthony Davis is a
modern a big guy but he's he just is. It's
a little bit like maybe ro Quan Smith is the
is the parallel, Like, you don't need to have great
(01:21:11):
linebackers anymore. But if you have a hybrid linebacker who
can cover, can tackle, and can run, you can do
all these things. Man, is that a weapon to have.
So do you need great big men? Not necessarily? I
mean Golden States won championships without it. But if you
have one that can cover guards and that's uncoverable by
a guard, plus can do all the other things that
(01:21:31):
guards do. Remember he was a guard before he grew
in high school. What an amazing asset to have. Uh?
Coming up next, Coming up next? I said this before.
I think it's the worst rule in sports. I just
do it. It's not just because of the rule, it's
(01:21:54):
the it's the extra punitive nature of the rule. We'll
get to that next and the Doug Got the Show.

game last night, which I believe I correctly predicted would
be a good game and that the Carolina Panthers would cover.
And I think Dan Buyer said the exact same thing.
That's what I That's what I remember from yesterday? Or
was it you Ramos? Was it was Byer? Wasn't it
by Yeah? I wasn't. I didn't get my pick. Yeah,
that's that's exactly that's uh, that's exactly what happened. Um boy,
(01:22:45):
there's a lot to get to. Can I just point
out something which I know others have pointed out, but
the touchback rule where when you fumble a football and
it goes into the end zone and out of the
end zone, the other team gets the ball and gets
it at the twenty yard line is the worst rule
(01:23:07):
in sports. Tell me there's the worst rule. The only
one I can think of is the drop third strike.
I get two strikes, I throw a pitch and it's
either a called strike or a swung on strike. My
catcher simply drops the baseball and I gotta get you
(01:23:29):
out again. And if you make it to first base
in time, you're safe. Why I have to throw you out.
You swung and missed, it's over. They don't say it's one, two,
three strikes, you're out. Wait, there's a drop third strike.
You gotta get the ball and run the first base
and throwing it at the old ball game, Now that
(01:23:51):
doesn't happen the Major League Baseball. In baseball in general,
it had uh, it had a catch. It's had a
catch rule that's just as bad or worse than the
NFL's catch rule for a long time, drop third strike,
terrible rule. It's still pales in comparison to this rule.
(01:24:16):
And it's not because just because the defense gets the ball.
It's because the defense gets the ball and they get
it at the twenty yard line. That's like doubly punitive,
like doubly punative. No, that's like if you're you're gonna
either take away when you're a kid and your parents
(01:24:40):
put you know put you, they ground you, you're grounded.
What does that mean? Well, we're gonna take away your
car and you can't go out on Friday and Saturday night.
Like wait, that's that's that's doubly punitive. Why because I
was late, You're gonna be fair and I are there
(01:25:01):
ways to fix it? Yes. The very simple way to
fix it is wherever the ball is fumbled, that's where
the ball is placed. And if you want to give
it to the defense, fine. The problem with even giving
it to the defense is there's no other place on
the field where if you fumble a football and it
moves forward and out of bounds, the defense gets the ball.
(01:25:23):
So if you want to say whether there's something special
to um fumbling it out of bounds, that the ball
has to be placed in the twenty yard line, Okay,
maybe I'll go from that with the offense, I don't
even know if the defense should get the ball. You're like, well,
of course the defense should get the ball. Why should
the defense get the ball if a running back is
(01:25:44):
running down the right sidelines. If Christian McCaffrey is running
down the right sidelines and he gets tripped up hit
at the third his own thirty yard line, he fumbles it,
It rolls forward to the thirty five and then out
of bounds. Christian McCaffrey's gets the ball back where the
fumble began. You can't advance the fumble. Ball doesn't get
(01:26:04):
get advanced be of the fumble. Is there something magical
about this? About the end zone. Sure, I understand you
can't fumble it forward so that you can then recover
the football and be a touchdown, because then you would
be a good little play. You'd run right like you'd
have a guy run towards the end zone, then right
when he's gonna get tackled, he'd roll it forward and
to be somebody else in the end zone. Or you'd
(01:26:26):
find a way to do it that way. Like now,
you can't do that, But that doesn't mean it has
to be doubly punitive, which is exactly what it's become. Music.
Can you think of any anything like that? Man? That
drop third strike is a good one. I know I'm
(01:26:47):
good at what I do. What I do. I mean, like, look,
I don't like the I don't like the rule. I
think they should take away the basket interference rule. Not
not goaltending, okay, but baster interfere all right, I don't
think they should. I think it should be a free
frow once it hits the rim. Once it hits the rim,
(01:27:14):
we should be able to go after it, go play it.
You can knock it off if you're on defense. You
can knock it in if you're on offense go and
compete for the basketball. I like that. That's what they
do in Fiba. If you knock it, by the way,
on the second free throw, if the defense balls bounce
an you can knock it out. Did you know the
second free throw? If you touch it and you're the
defense that goes in, the offense gets two points, not one.
(01:27:38):
It's a really good rule. I like it, and it
allows guys to keep competing for the basketball. But it's
not a rule, like you know, it's not a rule
like this. You want an equal value for the basketball.
For football, you get fouled on the three points, you
should get three free throws in this particular case. This
(01:28:04):
is this is like if you're dribbling down the court
and you lose the basketball or you miss a layup,
but you lose the basketball to bounds, like okay, not
only way to give you the ten the ball, but
we're gonna give them free throws or you can't press,
like it just makes no sense to me speaking of
something that makes no sense to me, This idea that
(01:28:27):
running quarterbacks will last. He look, Cam Newton got beat
up at times in the pocket last night, and some
of it is because he clearly doesn't have command and
control of football. His shoulder doesn't seem to be operating functionally.
But Cam Newton has taken a beating and among the
(01:28:47):
most impressive. Cam Newton to to me, is like Lebron
from this perspective, From the moment you first saw him,
you were like, dude, you know, like we call it
all airports a squad in basketball. When you walk past Caimton,
you don't even have to know who he is, Like,
I don't know who he is, but that guy is
a great athlete. He just looks like it. He looks
(01:29:09):
exactly like what a great athlete should be, six six
six seven, big arms, big legs, like you don't have
twig legs. There's like no fat to him, but like
perfect calves. Like that guy just looks. I've said before,
Greek gods look up to Cam Newton. That's how good
a body he has. And you know what, even his
(01:29:31):
body can't stand the savage punishment of being a quarterback
who runs. Yesterday was a word to the wise, be
very aware. This is what happens when you have a
guy that runs. Cam Newton was too big to get hurt.
(01:29:51):
Cam Newton is like too big to fail, but he's not.
You simply can't. We can't protect you there. They have
done everything in their power in the National Football League
to protect quarterbacks in the pocket. Can't hit him below
the knee, can't hit him in the helmet, can't fall
(01:30:12):
on them when and use your body weight when they
go down after they throw, you get a half second
at most to hit the guy if you're in the
if somebody grabs you, they blow the whistle because you're
in the grasp. It's crazy. Plus, now guys spend half
(01:30:32):
their time at least in the shotgun, so you're four
or five six yards back anyway for every stamp. Then
you can't touch the wide receivers after five yards. So
you can't touch the quarterbacks below the knee, above the neck,
can't touch the wide receivers after five yards. Offensive line
can move at least a yard down field outside of
(01:30:56):
the pocket. Haven't changed any rules, right with the exception
of when you slide, Like once you go into a slide,
if somebody comes anywhere near going after you, it's gonna
be fifteen yards. But the thing about Cam Newton is
either he's too big to slide or he just doesn't
want to, and even when he does, sometimes he gets
hurt before he slides. Cam Newton's body breaking down is
(01:31:22):
a word to the wise of any of these coaches
who have athletic quarterbacks, or anybody who's thinking about drafting
Kyler Murray. Kyler Murray may throw like Doug Flutie, he
may run like Mike Vick, but eventually somebody and if
they're gonna hit and hurt Cam Newton, you best believe
they're gonna hit and hurt Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson, any
(01:31:45):
of these. They did it to to Steve Young. Steve Young.
Al Right, here's the guy who's lived several lives in
the NFL, hadn't thrown a pass since what was the
two thousand eleven or something like this. I'm crazy like that.
Josh Johnson, quarterback Redskins. We've got to win this weekend,
joins us next. Be sure to catch live editions of

(01:32:28):
Oh man, um, I love this story. I do, and
um I always think it's it's fascinating to me on
how we get The Washington Redskins are have had a
crazy year, crazy year. They make a trade for Alex
Smith and they're in first place, and the Alex Smith
(01:32:48):
suffers a just gruesome injury. So then Colt McCoy comes in.
Colt McCoy then breaks his leg. You're like, oh, what,
what could possibly go? And then you know, just in
spite of the fact that people are yelling for them
to sign another guy, they go signed Josh Johnson. Who
I mean, you gotta go back and look, when was
the last time he threw an NFL pass? It's two
(01:33:12):
thousand eleven. Now he had been in the league, actually
been the Raiders camp. Of course it's Jon Gruden, So
Jay Gruden signs him. That's the way it works. I've
tried to explain to people, like, look, the way it
works is you call your brother, you call your friends like, hey, man,
I need a guy like I'll tell you it looks
pretty good. We had Josh Johnson here and that guy
can still throw it. I guess is that the way
(01:33:33):
it worked? Let's ask him. He just got his first
win throwing his first pass in two thousand eleven and
I was playing two games now, Um, but one of
know as the starter with the Washington Redskins. He joints
us in the Doug Gotlip show on Fox Sports Radio.
How are you good man? Okay, so tell me the process.
Alex Smith goes down. Where were you? I was? Ok
(01:33:59):
You're You're in Oakland, You're at the house, You're watching football.
What are you actually doing? Clothing line? You had a
fashion show for your clothing line. Okay, phone starts blowing up.
Agent calls you. How did it happened? Agent told me
that I was going and I wake up. Um okay,
(01:34:20):
So like, look, this is not your first for people
who know your career, like, this is not your first.
You know, opportunity to stay in the league, You have
a clothing line, you have a whole life after football,
all prepared. Were you prepared for to come in and
work out? Like? Were you in tiptop shape. Yeah, I
wasn't getting enough shape to come work DOUN. Now I
just combine three days ago, you're four days in San
(01:34:47):
Antonio and I was about forty gloves, so I had
to get before the workout with your ressidents. If not
for the a F would you have still been in
that kind of shape? Yeah, I was staying lady. I mean,
I work out in my high school all the time,
or go with the kids. I always doing shape. I'm
a pretty active competitor. I would like to say, so
I like to do little stuff. I play basketball. I
(01:35:08):
think this would be that you're staying shape all the time.
I just mentioned how's your basketball game? Let's let's talk
what's really important. How's your game? Solid? I get I
did I get that? Work? Uh? You? I mean are you?
Are you a pass first guy? Are you a shoot
first and second guy? I do whatever and we need
to do to win, whatever needs to do to stay
on on the floor, devid. It needs you to win.
(01:35:30):
Josh Johnson joining us in the Doug Out Live show
on Fox Sports Radio. So, so you get to d C.
How much did your experience with the Raiders help you
in terms of their knowledge of you and your knowledge
of what you would have to do. I mean, quite honestly,
I had more. I mean I had to I experienced
with coach John and Tampa, more so with the Raiders.
(01:35:52):
I was only at the Raiders for like three weeks
and they let me go for really Evan started anything.
But I was like j and Cincinnati was the backup
there the playoffs that here, so I really spent my
I got really more playing experience and a little more
and a lot more um valuable experience, I would say
with Jay and Cincinnati because the Tampa I was a
(01:36:13):
rinky of for Strom quarterback, so it was like the
race shot year. I was pretty much as lying as
you think versus in Cincinnati. I was more involved. I
was saying I was just a more experienced player. But
the Raider's stand was so quick, but it was kind
of a it was a quick refresher of the system.
I guess you could say a lot of the stuff
out man had similar knowledge to in another situation, So
(01:36:35):
everything helps stuff. But I think it's the cumulative of
my experience in temper in Cincinnati as well as not
just open Josh Johnson joining us in the Doug Gottlib
Show here on Fox Sports Radio for people don't know
the change in the program at USD University of San Diego.
People look back like Jim Harbaugh, of course, was the
(01:36:56):
coach they turned that thing around, and his quarterback it
was Josh Anson at the time. He joins us now
on Fox Sports tradeo here on the Doug gott Leap Show.
All right, so how many days, well, how many days
were you there before your first game? Resting? Huh? Yes, yeah,
I actually been signed after the working they signed mart
(01:37:18):
so I had to come back home and then uh.
They were then asked Monday Wednesday morning offer red Eye
got caught up Giants in Sundays. So Saturday Saturday, four games.
How are you on red Eyes? I'm pretty good on
(01:37:39):
red Eyes, but I need like a little nap afterwards.
I'm guessing because I know you guys the groutens especially,
and you got a bone up on things that you
hadn't watched. Did you go right to work? Yeah? I
had to get right to work. I mean it was
lying that day, and also played the basketball tournament that Sunday,
like five games, so my body was a little sword.
But it was good. It was a good to him
(01:38:00):
to get my legs ready because I end up playing
this some day and um here well yet today, So
it all ended up working out into my favorite where
she's not helping you know. Most importantly, did you win
the basketball tournament? Yes? We did? Uh you did? Dominated?
Did you? Did you load up the team with a
bunch of x NFL guys some x NBA guys did,
because that's what my buddies. We all do when we play.
(01:38:21):
We get guys that used to used to play. I
was only football player out, dude. There was a lot
of a lot of local basketball legends, some semi pro guys,
some guys got really do it. But I held my
own l own really well, what's it like to go
from um playing in a basketball league, playing a basketball tournament,
getting ready uh for the American Football League Draft, to
(01:38:44):
all of a sudden, now you're playing the with the
Washington Redskins, trying to make the playoffs. I mean, for me,
it's just real life. I think I've always tried to
uh like really focused on doing things that I'm passionate
about that I love, so I can put the work
game to prepare myself over opportunity, I make it and
so all those things that things that I like to do,
(01:39:05):
I love to do. So I mean, and they were
preparing me for whatever opportunity that I felt like I
was going to get. Got a graceful God, it was
this one. So I really just kind of enjoyed the
process of doing that. And I mean, it's it's real life.
I mean, as human beings, we we asked for a
lot of things. We all want things done a certain way.
But to me, when the opportunity presents itself instead of
(01:39:29):
a lot of people, to me, don't always try to
grasp you because not it's not coming away if they
want to. But for me, if I got the opportunity
to do anything that I love to do, I just
want to be ready to try how to maximize it.
And I was kind of approach could I couldn't agree.
It's a it's a it's an unbelievable life lesson. But
some people just don't get that I do this thing
Josh Johnson joining us. Um, I do this thing where
(01:39:50):
when I give speeches, I when I was first to
the ESPN kind of giveaway giveaway a speeches, I charge
money for okay, um, do you know you and nor
Easter is right, You've lived in Buffalos. You know Nor
Eastern is, don't you. Okay, so I'll draw from people
what a North Easter is where there's like two cold
fronts and there's actually a high pressure system that gets
caught off of New England. And I was like, look,
the difference here is you've got two cold fronts and
(01:40:11):
they get stuck over New England, so instead of getting
like six inches, they get like thirty inches. And I
love those, and people like, what do you mean you
love those? I love those because when I was at ESPN,
all the other basketball analysts would have to fly in
and fly out and guess what they couldn't fly in
and fly out if there was nor Easter. So I
go knocking on doors and I got that's how I
got out first opportunities in this business. But then I
tell people that the other part is you gotta be
(01:40:33):
ready for those opportunities so that they'll say like, hey,
that guy is pretty good. They you know, how do
you here? But here's the hard part. Okay, you've been
doing this a long time, You've bounced around, you've been
in camps, you were still one to play and play
that did you did you ever mentally think I'm not
gonna get another shout at the NFL. Um Okay, now
(01:40:59):
see me, I know I was getting older. I think
the day always had to We always reconfirmed myself every
time I got on the floop, other people want to
value it or not. Every time I got on the preseason,
I was one of the top quarterbacks that were playing
preseason withever matter how many teams got done. So our
our always have a pretty good preseason. So it's me
that was good enough to confine that you can still
(01:41:21):
play this game. And then when you look around and
you see a lot of these quarto backs running a lot,
I'm making pleasure to their legs and doing all these
different things. I feel like that's fixed to my skill sets.
So just you know, sticking to it. Hopefully the opportunity comes.
At the same time, I had to learn how to
divertify myself. I had to learn how to do other things.
That's why I started technology Apple. I'm a part of
(01:41:46):
that because banking, so, I mean it was it was
the opportunity for me to go as a man, and
I was able to do that as well as still
prepare because they all link. They're all connected, and now
I'm put a position to my still play the game
love as well as the team on the people that
I love and trust to be able to handle other
things off the field. Any kind of just coming for
(01:42:06):
a circle, right, Yeah, it's amazing. Josh Johnson joining us
in the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Trait.
I gotta get you to a really good sales Fox.
You have a little it's going in in and out
just a little bit. We'll we'll just make sure we
can can hear him. Just such incredible stuff, right, Like
how many times you have to be told no? It's
you're like no, and he's like, look how he's gotta
would leave myself and I had to diversify just talking
(01:42:29):
about app and he's got a clothing line. He still
wants to play. He's playing hoop playing the American Football Association.
Like this stuff is is great? Okay, So, um, I
mean obviously now is just kind of ride this ride
this thing out. Um, what's what's your feelings on the
future now that you've shown you can only play, but
(01:42:49):
can win in this league. Huture, it's gonna be whatever
is mentioned me honestly. I mean, I mean my approach
is really has been more focused. Now I've kind of
got the monkey off my back because I mean I
always believe the way that I was going about things
is the right way to handle it. I just wasn't
getting the confirmation of doing that, you know. But to
(01:43:10):
go out there and winning the way that we won
and how we get it, the resiliency, it was kind
of like everything that I've been experiencing. So it was
great that we won that that way as a team.
But now in this situation is there, it's all about
getting back to the basics. Nothing else matters to us.
Shouldn't it shouldn't matter to us about what we can do,
and no of its wouldn't Washington Reskins take care of
(01:43:31):
our fenness wasn't there for us. We're gonna get But
at the end of the day, the only thing that
are most important businesses going I was getting win us Tennessee.
Nothing knowlse matters what the Tennessee Titans. That's all. I
don't focused on Josh Johnson joining us in the Dug
Outlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. You know how this works.
I mean, look, you live in northern northern California, grew
up in Oakland. Um, you know that the second somebody
(01:43:52):
goes down to like why not call Kaepernick, does it
bother you at all that people wanted Kaepernick instead of
wanting you. No, nobody never wanted me. Nobody wanted me
out of high schoolbodn't wanted me kind of college. I mean,
I mean, he's he's done what he needed to do
to get those people following him, and they have that
amount of respect for the way he plays to where
(01:44:14):
people push for his name. That really does not bothering
me at all. My opportunity. All I focus on is
making sure that I'm doing whatever I can to position
myself to get an opportunity so when I do get
my opportunities that I can make the best out of them.
And everything else is irrelevant. Like I mean, I've been
in the league for ten years. It ain't been too
many people checking to me, so it's not gonna be
(01:44:35):
so if they're checking for me now, it's probably because
of It's not really that you know, it is what
it is. But the end of the day, I've been
doing this for a long time. It's not like I
haven't been here, so the ones that's been down since
they went already knows those ones the ones that haven't.
I mean, the respect is there because the people are
appreciating my story and what I'm doing. But the end
of the day, I know that means nothing if we
don't go out and win. So that's all I'm focused on,
(01:44:57):
is us going on and get more victories. Josh Johnson
joining us in the Dug Out Lip Show on Fox
Sports Radio. So does this mean you're not going to
play for the San Diego Fleet? You get you moving?
You moving too fast? I mean, big dog that you
know they're calling, You're going like, hey, Josh, you're You're
still coming right, You're still You're still It's it's like
you r s v P to a party way early
and then you got a body to a bunch of
(01:45:18):
other parties, are like, uh, You're still coming to the party.
You're still coming to the party. Like listen, now, I'll
figure that once we get closer to New Year's Is
that is that the planned the end of the day.
At the end of the day, that league is created
for guys to get opportunities at the highest level. Every
guy down there was trying to get to the highest level.
That's the duty of having that league. But I think
that's it's going to be a great league whether I'm
there or not. But in the day, I can't worry
(01:45:39):
about that right now. Like nothing, nothing, nothing, two weeks
from now matters because everything that, everything that happens on
Saturday is going to happen with what happens next. You
know what I'm saying. Everything was going on on Saturday
is going to determine what happens next. So I'm just
focused on Saturday, and I'll just honest that honest true. Okay,
So how about this one? You played a basketball tournament
(01:46:01):
five games in five games in one day or five
games in two days? Five games and one day minutes
half running clock curio? Okay? Five? Okay? Was which was
more exhaust Which which did you wake up feeling more
sore from last weekend against Jacksonvia because you did get
in I know, in the first week, but you started
last week and got to win. When you woke up
this Monday or when you woke up the monday before
(01:46:22):
you had to go to back to d C. I
to be quite honest, I was I was sore after basketball, Greun.
That was I haven't played. I mean because even before
I played, like I haven't played that long. I haven't
competed for that amount of time frame over that was
a whole day of competition. Like you know, we got kids,
(01:46:44):
got any kids? I played for youth basketball when they
had a tournament, they played three or four games and
one day. Those day joints can handle that stuff. My
joint is like, what are you doing to me? You
ain't did this year? And then at the same time,
like I haven't even competed in a football game before
quarters until last week. Uh end of the day. Though
it's a different it's a different kind of um taxation.
(01:47:07):
I get you to stay on your body, but like
my feet and everything was going through it because all
those basketball courts pretty hard and pretty impactful on your body.
So but it got me ready on So that's why
I did. What what what stinkers were you wearing when
you played the five games? Five? The old Kobe is
the Dita ones? Those ones the Dita code. Yeah, man,
(01:47:29):
they're pretty comfortable too. How did you get those? You
are those online or something? You just have those in
the closets. I can't remember where something that, but I've
always kept them because I don't know. You've got a
lot of basketball shoes that are creative, but I don't
love them comfortable in your feet when he thirty two,
thirty two years old, It's more about comfortability and style,
you know. I gotta tell you that I think the
Nike Kobe is the low top. I think those are
(01:47:50):
the most comfortable ones. I can't believe you went old
school of didas Kobe's. I'm actually know Kobe little bit.
I'm gonna text him, tell him that he'll love He'll
love that story, obviously. Key Now Nike guy, he can't.
But uh, well, listen, we don't want you to. We
don't want you to get hurt, especially man those Yeah
you got Tennessee Titans this week and then Eagles next week.
That that defensive line you might have a dude flesh
(01:48:11):
your cox lays hands on you. That might not might
be a different, different story in terms of your soreness. Um,
how much have this affected your foundation that now people
know your story? How much of this has been able
to resonate with your foundation? Um? I think it's more
a resonation with the kids. Uh, Marshaun kind of put
the foundation on the map with what he did when
he when he went to the Super Bowl. Really just
(01:48:31):
creating an awareness and now with me and Marcus uh
just doing our thing. Um, I mean pretty people, especially locally,
A lot of people know what we deal within the community.
We don't promote a lot that doesn't know who we are.
We just kind of like to speak with our actions.
But I think Morristar resonates with the kids because, like
talking to him a couple of them yesterday, it was
the fact that that that they know I was just
(01:48:51):
at home with them and all they kept back to
me was like, why are you not on the team?
Why are you not on the team? Some of them
even called me weak, like you weak, that's why, And
I'm like, know having right now, nobody will so but
but but but at the end of the day, I
always preciate them that you know something. Sometimes things go
out of your control. Let your work get the gigs,
y'all control yo yo, your mindset yr yr, belief in
(01:49:13):
yourself and also are you putting in the work to
get to make sure you are prepared. So I think
this kind of just shows like this shows them showing
my own kids that no matter what, if you're doing
your part and it's something that you really really well
to do. Opportunity you will come, especially if you but
you're doing everything that you can do. God don't give
you an opportunity. It might not come into the most
(01:49:35):
specialist way. But you've got that opportunity. Now what you
do with it after that, it's really up to you
and if you can live with that. And I mean,
life goes on, Life goes on. I just gonna go
on for anybody. At the end of the day, football
is not gonna be here forever. For me, It's not
gonna be here for ever for nobody's. Everything gets passed on.
So I just want to be able to make sure
that I'll take advantage of what I can so I
(01:49:56):
can feel good about it within on the inside of myself.
You mentioned Marcus. Marcus obviously be Marcus Peters. Uh did
you text him to you, Calma? He can't can't be
going on the stands, man, that's just nothing good. What
happens when you and like look the security guards just
standing there, you know, like, oh hey, look, Marcus Peters
is going over to the stands like they gotta get
But did you text your column? He can't that that
nothing good happens. When you go over there, we'll talk
(01:50:17):
about it. But right, I mean here, he'll be all right.
I mean, things happen. Nobody's perfect. Everybody's like over criticized
him of athletes so much. It's a little weird to
me because people act like nobody's human. No work, Especially
if people try to criticize so much. I'm pretty sure
when they're going behind they closed doors, behind their microphones,
they do things that they might have wished they regret
they didn't do. That's just a part of our grow
(01:50:37):
friends people, don't you know. He's got to be able
to take the deal with the bad. But the end
the day, I know, I know where as harder than
I know what type of person he is on the daily.
I know what he does for the community, how he
feels about things. I mean, things happen sometimes that might
not be the greatest representation of who we are. But
in the day, who he is you're around, and how
consistent he is, I'm more respecting of that. Everybody makes mistakes,
(01:50:58):
you know, Yep, I completely agree. Hey, I just I
don't offer advice to people who are more successful than me.
But you you are I'm gonna just one of these
next two weeks. You should go out there before the
game and just take it all in, man, because it's
an amazing story. Hope, hope, hope it continues to the
legend continues to grow. Pretty awesome, pretty awesome stuff. Uh,
(01:51:19):
congrats on the win. Congrats on winning the basketball tournament
as well, and thanks and thanks, thanks so much for
joining us. It's Josh Johnson joining us, who's, of course
the quarterback of the Washington Redskin. Is pretty amazing, right,
had thrown passons two thousand eleven, gets into the game,
bounced around, played, you know, played an adult league tournament
(01:51:43):
in Oakland five games in a day, flies out there,
spots Spot, replaces Mark Sanchez, then starts from the next
week and wins a game. Now I got a chance
to get the Reds kids the playoffs. Wow, damn bye
what he got? Got some music there? There you go
(01:52:04):
almost show into the stories, Like, man, I'm still into
That was a quick transition. Come into my office. Want
to talk to you about your Josh Johnson still with us? Josh,
how is how is your season going so far? Most
(01:52:26):
prison there it is? What was his voice? Had him
it sounded like Darth Vader. He might have just woken
up when he had that red eye, and then he
practiced and he played Did you already send that the
Jaguars after you beat him? On now Sunday? There was
there was some Josh, Josh, how cool a story? Is that?
(01:52:49):
Very cool? Very He's like, yeah, I was in. It
was a refresher, but I was an open for three
weeks and then I was playing pick up basketball, staying
ready for the a f L. The San Diego Plea,
by the way, did not sound committed all about playing
for the same day. No, John were almost wanted to
know if he's not gonna play, if he had any
gear that John could have, if you're not gonna use it,
(01:53:10):
John Ramos definitely will. Hey, we don't know if we're
gonna see Cam Newton in Week sixteen. Panthers head coach
Ron Rivera says today he wants to talk with the
quarterback later on in the week to find out where
he is physically and mentally before they take the field
against the Atlanta Falcons. Aaron Rodgers gonna play Week sixteen
against the Jets, but he is battling a groin injury.
Suffered in their loss to the Bears. Packers plays like
(01:53:30):
a kick in the nuts the Bears shin injury. Aaron Jones,
Packers running back, placed on injured reserve with the knee
injury and no that may ruin some fantasy seasons and
some championship games. When he was knocked out of that
game against the Bears, Rams have made a move waving
wide receiver and kick return to Farrell Cooper and set
the sign veteran running back C. J. Anderson to back
(01:53:53):
up Todd Gurley. Boca Raton Bolts and u A B
takes on Northern Illinois. That's at seven o'clock Eastern time.
Well have gard Dennis Smith Jr. Won't play it out
against the Nuggets because of a risk injury. Manchester United
fired manager Jose Marino today after two plus years on
the job in the Minnesota Twins, and i'nd still retired
Joe Mawer's number seven this season after the catcher called
(01:54:14):
it quits after fifteen years in the Big stug Back.
I'm just I'm like so impressed by the dude being
ready to play. I just like that's get you know, like, yeah,
you know, I'm I'm always ready. I threw forty balls, like, yeah,
I d threw forty balls a week before, so I
was ready for the workout. And then I, you know,
I lay it on the Red Eye. I do like
(01:54:34):
I enjoy a good Red Eye. I don't know if
I told you guys that that's that's my that's my
My adjustment to the West Coast both times I've lived
out here is I'm a big red Eye guy. Just
it's you're just such a waste of a day to
fly cross country, complete waste of a day. Give me
the last flight out each way. You know, he leave there,
leaving his coast like nine o'clock, get here like midnight.
(01:54:57):
I don't want I want that one. I want my
days to be spend a week and not on a plane.
Although you get a lot done, you do feel like
you're in your own office. Now when you get internet
on the plane, you're like, Oh, someone's let me own office. Wait,
somebody's gonna bring me coffee right here. Change is coming
for at least one team in the NFL. Find out
who next. Be sure to catch live edition so the

So I haven't seen Christmas Story yet, but I've watched
Christmas Vacation, die Hard. I'm trying to think of the
(01:55:41):
other Christmas Eve. You haven't watched Home Alone. We love
Home Alone. That's usually when we watch on Christmas Eve
and the other like Christmas movies. Haven't watched Charlie Brown
Christmas either? Or we need to get that one. I
know it already showed on Network TV, but there's other
ways to watch. You've seen the Grint. I'm sure you've
seen that one, right, not the new one? Okay, new
one's good, New One's good? Yes, Okay, Oh we saw Elf.
We watch elfl good one as well. Um any other
(01:56:04):
must sees must seize. Home alone ones are good. I
I like both Home Alone one and Home Alone too.
Somehow they made Home Alone three and thankfully most of
America doesn't know. Um. I would also say that die
Hard to also good Holiday Flack. You know annex Skywalk.
I was at Dullis International. Dullis is so much better.
(01:56:25):
Dallas used to be the worst airport on Earth. Now
it's really cool. There's a lot. It takes a lot
to get around there because there's a there's a like
a train, there's all that goes below ground. There used
to be these huge trucks that would take you across Dullis.
But anytime I landed Dallas, I think of the Annex skywalk.
You have to have watched die Hard too to know
that depress and fire. Let's hit uh six stories here
(01:56:52):
in the last six minutes. We gotta we gotta bunch
for you, Panthers said coach Ron Rivera says that he
wants to talk with Cam Newton before he's signing if
Newton will play Week sixteen against the Atlanta Falcons. Panthers
technically still alive for a wild card, but last night
really hurt. Newton has that shoulder injury. Rivera says he
wants to see where Newton is at physically and mentally
(01:57:12):
before deciding if you will play on Sunday. I can't
see Cam Newton plan Sunday. But I've said this before, like, look,
I don't think Colin Kaepernick makes sense in the league
because he hasn't been in the league. He doesn't know
these systems. He hasn't been doing what Josh Johnson did,
go into camps getting and being willing to put yourself
out there and get cut, going and throwing for people.
(01:57:33):
But if there's a place where they don't really have
a great backup in Derek Derrick Harrison is a great guy,
but it's completely different than the system they're running and
could work in short term, why not? Damn on them, folks,
don't there isn't Taylor Reinicky. Isn't that who they're best? Right?
That's right? Because what's his name? Moved to Buffalo? Right? Yeah,
(01:57:53):
it's uh yeah, because Derrick Anderson was doing this thing,
so it wasn't ye great francois Who is Taylor Ronicky? Um?
He was uh gosh, where did he gives the old dominion? Yes? Yeah, yeah,
I don't even know how he plays Heinecki not an
r Yeah that's my fault. Yeah, like like the drink. Yeah,
(01:58:16):
I love I love that guy already. Taylor Heinek is
twenty five years old, panther backup? Why not think what
the kid can do? Yeah? Give it a shot. Cam
Doon can't throw a football. That's kind of important when
you're playing in the NFL. The NFL Network says the
Falcons could be making changes to the staff under head
coach Dan Quinna. Gone could be Steve Sarkisian and Mark
(01:58:40):
jan Manual Sarkisi and the offensive coordinator Manual running the defense.
And it's not good in Atlanta. Uh, it is not
good in Atlanta. Not no bueno, no good at all.
But I would say like a lot of it is
the fact they've had a ton of injuries on the
offensive side of the defensive side. Um, and there were
(01:59:02):
times in which the quarterback was very good, times which
he wasn't great, especially early in the year. Yeah, I
would say the lack of development maybe or lack of
progress from Matt Ryan's MVP season has UM maybe been
part of it. Ryan was having an okay year, UM
maybe better than but to play at that m v
(01:59:22):
P level, he just hasn't. Chargers running back Melvin Gordon
was on the practice field today. Well Wide receiver Keen
Nilan not seen as he tries to return from a
hip injury. Had coach Anthony Lynn did say that Gordon
went full speed as he tries to return from that
knee injury. M The glutes were exactly shutting off. I
think he plays. I don't think he has to, but
(01:59:44):
I think he plays. And I think the Chargers charge
an interesting team. Everybody else is banged up. If they
play their cards right, they can be the ones at
full strength. The crazy thing is a little bit out
of their control because they play on Saturday, and that
she's play on Sunday in Seattle, as you know, dan
a being a Seahawks fan, and if the Chiefs win
(02:00:04):
that game, Chiefs are gonna get home fieldvanagd arout and
becomes a moot point for the Chargers and they should
shut him down. So that's it's a hard call. But
I think he plays. Sunday night football should be exciting
from Seattle. The Rams played on Sunday night last week.
We saw what appened with Todd Gurley's knee. So today
reports say their writing insurance signing backup veteran C. J.
Anderson to be the second string behind Todd Gurley. M Yeah,
(02:00:29):
c J. Anderson when they beat when they meet the
Panthers in Super Bowl fifty. When he was a member
of the Broncos. I was walking out of the locker
room and C J. Anderson his quote was, I was
a strip sack fumble away from the m v P.
And he was because if von Miller doesn't get that play,
C J. Anderson's probably the m v P of Super
Bowl fifty. It's a great point. It is a great point.
(02:00:50):
Speaking of shutting down quarterbacks, we talked about Cam Newton earlier.
Aaron Rodgers has a growing injury, expected to play the
Week sixteen against the Jets. Head coach interimed coach O
Philbin says, if you're healthy enough to play, I think
you should play. So no discussion of Rogers being shut
down despite them being eliminated. I think he wants to
end the season on a high note. And I also
(02:01:11):
think there's a there's a chance you'll you'll know if
he wants Joe Philbin to be his coach as well. Uh,
you know, playing and playing well. But I think Aaron
Rodgers knows he hasn't played well and he wants to
play better. Hornet's owner Michael Jordans came in fourth in
the Forbes list of the wealthiest celebrities of net Worth,
estimated at one point seven billion dollars. Do you want
(02:01:32):
to guess who the three celebrities that were ahead of him? Uh,
like celebrities meaning athletes. No celebrities like athletes would be included.
But he's the highest athlete that there is, So we're
talking celebrities. The three celebrities that were ahead of Michael
Jordan's so Vester saloon, No, John Ramos would know one
(02:01:54):
of them. That's pretty cools. Oh gee, I don't know.
George Lucas, Stan Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey. That's pretty good
group to be out there and pressed that was the press.
That's a pretty good group to be in, right, Like,
that's those the type of people that they've never looked
at it. They don't look at a bank statement ever.
(02:02:15):
They don't go like, hm hmmm, let me look at
something on sale, right. They don't ask how much something costs,
like when it says market price, they don't go like,
what's the market price for the fish of the day.
They don't care. That's that is the definition of few
