(00:24):
The Doug Gottlieb Show. Come see you live, same bad channel,
same same bad time, same bad channel, every day, getting
you ready for a World Series Game six from Toronto
coming up later tonight. Obviously, we want to talk about
all things that are important to you, right that's the

(00:45):
number one thing. And a quick congratulations to our guy,
Colin Cowherd, who last night was inducted into the Radio
Hall of Fame. I do think you look. Colin is
a friend and a mentor of And one of the
things that Colin has always said and frankly taught me
when I was just a young whipper snapper we got

(01:07):
to ESPN at the exact same time, was don't talk
about what you want to talk about, talk about what
the most people want to hear about. So look, I'll
start with the NFL. Last night was a complete beatdown.
One team is trying to turn around their season, the

(01:27):
other one seems dead in the water. And the one
team is trying to turn around their season came in
with the inferior record, Lamar Jackson Ravens, come in not
really competitive against the Dolphins, and today Chris Greer is
let go. But I I gotta take it's the word
I'm looking for. I gotta take a second, okay and

(01:50):
call bs BS on something probably the most powerful man
in sports media had to say earlier today. Was not research,
not poorly researched, not research categorically misconstrued or even false

(02:18):
and designed simply to feed into the narrative that the
end of the day, the NFL is racist. Right. I'll
get to that in one second. First, here's Mike McDaniel,
the still head coach of the Miami Dolphins, summing up
the loss after the game.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
That was that self inflicted wounds, that we've been putting
such an emphasis on, you know, all things related to
our operation, and in a critical fourth and fourth and
one where the you know, we're pretty fired up about
the defensive. Look, it was what we were calling calling

(03:00):
the play for. And that's flat out a controllable that
our team knows that keeps you from winning. So I
rate at nothing but our self inflicted wound.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, OK, that's Oli Gordon. He slips, he falls, he
low bridges oncoming defender, causes a penalty and they don't
get the first down because of it. And then Oli
Gordon is yelling back an assistant coach. And again, if
you watch the video, Ali fell down. He slipped, but
again it still is your fault when you slip. Whatever,

(03:42):
the Dolphins were gonna change coaches at the end of
the year. Regardless, the Dolphins are probably going to have
to change quarterbacks at the end of the year or
get into the process of whenever they can get out
of to his deal, get out of to his deal.
Chris Greer was fired. That should be mentioned. He's been
with the organization for twenty five years. In those twenty

(04:02):
five years, they have won exactly zero playoff games. He's
been the GM for ten years. They won exactly zero
playoff games. And I'm not saying it's not difficult, but
I heard this earlier today on First Take, and I
thought it was so bad it was actually offensive. And

(04:24):
I'll tell you why after you listen to Steven A.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Smith is BS that's the first fire. Really, that's what
we're doing, what we've seen, what we just finished talking about.
You know, there are things that you need to be modified,
et cetera, et cetera. But the personnel that they have
on their squad, although we're not we're not happy with it.
We didn't walk into this season thinking they were going

(04:47):
to be trash.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
We looked at their Rosston.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
We said they got some potential. We'll see what happens.
It was about Tua, it was about Mike McDaniel and
the brother get fired first. All I know is this,
I better hear Mike McDaniel's name today. I better hear
Mike mcdaan' use his name today. But it better not
be just Chris Grere. And I'm not saying that he
don't deserve it because of the way they look at

(05:10):
the end, he you knew you at the helm.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
I got it.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
I understand it.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Lists I'm all for brothers as head coaches.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Gym's.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
We know what battles I've been fighting over thirty years.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Okay, I got it.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
All right, but we go because when you don't get
the job done, you don't get the.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Damn job done.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Period.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
I got it.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Don't tell me it's just him. Don't tell me. We
gonna leave Mike McDaniel using place and we just gonna
fire him and we gonna move forward.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Damn that.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
I don't want to hear it.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
I'm waiting for more news. I'm waiting for more news again.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
I can't. I can't defend Chris Grere with some of
the decisions that have been made personal wise.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
I got it.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
I understand it's unfortunate, but I got it. But I'll
be damned if it gets to stop there.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Oh hell no, So we all heard the exact same thing. Okay.
I don't want to mislabel it. I don't want to
misassociate it. I don't want to treat it as anything
other than what we heard Stephen A. Smith say. Steven A.
Smith said that though he thinks Chris Greer ultimately should

(06:12):
have been fired because he's black, he shouldn't be the
first one fired because the problems are with TUA and
with Mike McDaniel. Now, there's two different things that we
have to point out. One Mike McDaniel is mixed race.
His father, I believe, is a black man. Tua is Samoan.

(06:36):
So again, I'm not racist. I don't know how racism works.
I just don't. Apparently, in Steven A. Smith's world, because
Chris Greer has darker skin and both parents are black, well,
then the Dolphins are racist against him more so than
against McDaniel and Tua. Right, that's the assumption. He talked

(07:04):
about the decisions that have been made he doesn't agree with.
Who was the general manager when they selected Tua. The
answer is Chris Greer, who was the general manager when
they re signed Tua. The answer is Chris Greer, who
was the general manager who told the owner, Stephen Ross.

(07:26):
It's either Brian Flores, who didn't like Tua and didn't
like Chris Greer and didn't like essentially any offensive coach
who coached with him, and so they got rid of
him and they brought in Mike McDaniel. He hired Mike McDaniel,
He drafted Tua, he re upped to a He built

(07:47):
this entire roster, and the biggest flaw in all of
sports media is one of the things that was on
display outside of you know, race baiting and creating a
narrative which is completely false and doesn't exist and is
super embarrassing to any of us in sports media, especially
somebody who's the highest paid employee at ESPN, essentially calling

(08:10):
the Dolphins races for firing a GM who they'd held
on for ten years despite the fact they never won
a playoff game. But here's the biggest mistake they made.
We are some of the players. We like some of
the players. That's because you don't like one. He didn't
know the roster. Second, it's not about the talent. The

(08:31):
most talented teams don't win. It's the best teams that
Winky and they made who made the decision to trade
for for Tyreek Hill. Keep in mind you can criticize
the personnel, the wide receivers they've given to Pat Mahomes

(08:54):
since Tyreek Hill was traded, they've won two Super Bowls
since he's been gone. Why. Because you don't win just
based on talent. You gotta win based on guys that
salary fits in and want to be part of a team.
Tyreek Kill didn't want that, so they Chris Greer's biggest mistake,
biggest mistake was drafting to over Justin Herbert right. That

(09:16):
ultimately is why he gets fired. But the other mistakes
he's made is he's gone talent over character. They have
some guys with terrible character on that team that they've
been trying to get rid of, that ruined any sort
of culture that they tried to build. And the defense
stinks and two is not good enough and everybody knows it.

(09:38):
But you have the most powerful man in sports media.
Don't believe me. Just ask him stating something which he's forgotten,
that they fired the coach last time to keep the
general manager. The coach was black, the general managers was black.
Nobody said anything about it except for Brian Flores, who
sued the Dolphins. And so instead of actually talking about

(10:01):
what happened, how to fix it, who they should hire,
you know, or whatever, instead they label the NFL as racist.
And then there's nobody on that set that goes like, uh, hey,
you know, he was there for twenty five years, he
was the GM for ten. The entire front office is
actually black with the Miami Dolphins. So they're not racist

(10:23):
to hire and support and promote Chris career, but they're
racist to fire him instead of firing a mixed race coach,
or firing a simoan or trading or get rid of
or cutting a swoon quarterback. That doesn't make any sense
to anybody with any sort of brains. But again, the
people that listen to stephen A. Smith think worlds out

(10:44):
to get black people. The NFL is racist. That's why
they fire Chris Greer first, and they'll get to Mike
Maindaane It some other day. Jace do. I just want
to make sure did you hear the same thing that
I heard? Just want to make sure that I'm not
just hearing things I'm not and I'm not like, I'm
not one of these guys that goes around and tries

(11:06):
to find things which people call racism and you're like,
it's not ra but like this is. It's utterly ridiculous,
and it's it's the type of thing that I believe
has driven people away from the rest of ESPN. I
don't think all or even most of people who work

(11:26):
at ESPN think this way. Most of the broadcasting is
based upon the actual sports, but the race bating is tired,
it's done, it's over, And this one only proves that
stephen A does no work, no research doesn't actually care
to do so. And then two he plays that one
card he always has, which is racist. Did I miss something?

Speaker 6 (11:51):
No, I don't think you missed anything. And I do
think that there needs to be some clarification from the
people over there at ESPN, like what, what where does
the mixed race fall into this? Because remember Ryan klarquast
Fall said that Lamar Jackson needs to win a Super
Bowl for US. Lamar Jackson does when Pat Mahomes is

(12:13):
one four or five, right, Yeah, And in this situation,
mixed race Mike McDaniel somehow is left out of the equation.
I just don't know how that factors in here.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Yeah, I just again, that's say that is a that
is a cultural argument that we can't That's one you
can't get into, right. I mean, look, nobody, nobody crushes
black people like black people will do it. You know.
It's one of the things about that A lot of
people in the black community will say, like, hey, why

(12:46):
do we treat light skin people differently than dark seam
Like why do we do that? It does happen in
other parts of society. Happens in Mexico, as I think
anybody in California knows there's always been the conflict between
lighter skin Mexicans and darker skin Mexicans. And again that's
not my purview. I don't know, and I don't care.
I don't think he didn't take it. He wasn't saying

(13:08):
that because he's mixed raced. He's below that of you know,
somebody who comes from a black mom and black dad.
He didn't know. He didn't know. He didn't even remember
about Brian Flores. He didn't know about the whole Miami
Dolphins front office. He doesn't know, and he doesn't care
because nobody outside of us and some other people will
call him on the bull crap. But this is bull
crap because all he had to do was ask a researcher.

(13:31):
He didn't even have to know himself. Hey man, give me,
give me something on the Dolphins. And you know what,
they wouldn't say. They wouldn't say, you know, it's got
a racist to fire at Chris Greer first, because they
would point out, you know, they hired Chris Greer, They
stood by Chris Greer. The whole front office was African American,
The last head coach was African American. It doesn't make
any sense, but that doesn't get clicks, and we just

(13:52):
gave him more clicks, even if we were clowning on
his take.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Got a question for you, guys. It's a real question. Okay, Dan,
I need to put your headsets on there. I know
you're getting situated. You got other stuff to do. So
we played Kansas on Monday. Okay, their first exhibition, in
our first exhibition. We're both up on ESPN Plus. Okay,
I think they've both been taken down. Last night we

(14:27):
played an exhibition against Saint Norbert. They played an exhibition
against Fort Hayes State, I think two nights ago. I
think that was on ESPN Plus. But again, I think
it's been taken down. I don't think we can. We
don't have the actual tapes. So uh. One of coach
self's assistants asked, say, hey, we're gonna do a tape exchange.

(14:52):
Now it had not been pre agreed to before. Okay,
it's not like hey we do Hey, listen, we're gonna
do it. Tapics it's all good whatever we play Monday.
Like their rank nineteen in the country, we won four
games last year. Do you give them the tapes?

Speaker 4 (15:12):
Yes, Chase do Sure?

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Well, you guys are just like sure, like the.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
Well Jason was sure, I said, yes.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Okay buy or why you actually gave a little thought.
I could see your brain working a little bit there.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
Why well, it reminds me of Deadliest Catch. Every episode
they joined to work together, and then somebody finds Crab
and then I want to give up their secrets and
it's this whole deal. And then if you're out on
somebody and they found out that you're that type of
guy that lingers you giving your game tape to Kansas

(15:54):
is probably not going to affect the outcome of Monday. However,
you not giving up your tapes will have a reputation
that could last, I don't know throughout the college game.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Sure. And and I consider Bill a mentor and a
friend as well, and I don't want to sell you
that relationship. On the other hand, there is the like, hey, well,
Bill self calls and he called me this morning. I
haven't miss him because I was prepping for the show.
You know, he calls you wants the tapes, like, what
am I gonna do here? Go like no, But do

(16:28):
I think like if he was playing John Shire today,
would John Shire be like, I like you ey tapes?
What are you talking about?

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (16:38):
It was definitely having right right they're Kansas, Yeah, but
they're Kansas.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
But it's also different, like Duke in Green Bay? Do
you what do you think?

Speaker 1 (16:47):
What do you think? What do you think it's worse
to them? Ten grand, twenty grand? Just I'm just a
thought here. Let me ask Mark Dominic. He's a former
gentleman manager of Tampa Bay Buccaneers who joins his first
weekly visit. Mark. We opened the season with Kansas, the
most storied program in college basketball. You know it's it's
the place where James Nasmith is the only coach ever

(17:10):
to have a losing record in the history of the program. Right,
it's they play in an absolute cathedral. They won like
it's your all modern. They won like twenty straight big twelves.
He's won two national championships. I would my guess would
be they have thirty times what we have in nil
and that may be under selling. So Coach South politely

(17:35):
asked for our exhibition tapes in a tape exchange? Do
you give it to them? Who?

Speaker 7 (17:48):
So again Rock Shalk Jerry Hawk to start this off with,
you know what, probably if it's something that you're consistently
done before with programs, I think it's work.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Never done before. Last year when we played Oklahoma State, Yeah,
we made sure they didn't because when we play we
played St. Norbert every year, they're in our town. They're
Division three. So last year Anthony Roy, who by the way,
now plays for Oklama State, he made twelve his first
twelve threes. So we're like, oh god, I hope they
don't see that tape. Right, We didn't even we ran
a couple of things, but he was just so good

(18:21):
it was unbelievable. And he ended up having like thirty
two against Oklahoma State. But again, like, I don't they
hadn't seen that tape. I don't believe. So it's not
something it's not in the contract. We hadn't previously agreed
to it. But I mean, he's Bill effing self and
he's like, hey, let's switch tapes. What do I say?

Speaker 7 (18:41):
Yeah? I would say that Bill is just something we
just don't do. As much as I appreciate it. It's
just something we don't do then, and I'd feel good
about that, and he'd be like, well, what's the big deal.
I'm like, I think you already have you know, uh,
a situation there where you know, we're just walking in,
but we're gonna stay with president. This is what was
always done. We've rarely ever switched tapes, and I would
I would do that. That's then I would have the
confidence to say, hey, Bill, I appreciate it, and uh,

(19:03):
you know, but that's just something we don't do. And
I wouldn't think twice about it, because I don't think
it's going to change the lightship you may have or
don't have with Bill self.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Fair Enough, I got some deciding to do here for
the next couple of hours because I know that phone's
gonna blow up as soon as we hit sin as
we hit four local Doug Gottlieb show, Fox Sports Radio.
The Dolphins, I mean, that's how they've looked most of
the year. Uh, and they have some issues there. What
are your thoughts on the Chris Career firing.

Speaker 7 (19:34):
Well, I'm jealous because when I got fired, it wasn't
I thought it was a mutual decision too, But I
guess he gets to have the mutual decision and mine
was just getting fired. Yeah, you know, I'm not I
hate to say this. Chris is a guy that I've
known forever. Obviously, anybody's been in the NFL has known
him since. I think we got in the league just
about the same time. It might be the one year sooner.
He's been part of that Dolphins organization for a long

(19:55):
time and and part of the decision making all the
way back to two thousand and three when he was
director of called scouting and then he was you know,
the player personnel, and so he's he's been he's the
director of overall scouting. So he's been part of the
Dolphins for you know, two decades. At some point I
get it, Like I understand where mister Ross said. It's
it's got to be part of the culture of the

(20:17):
team that we created and the culture of the team. Yeah,
it comes through the head coach, but also is the
people that you bring him to the building. And I
think you've got to you know, you don't just talk
to you know, you know people around the organization. You
talked to players in your organization, You talked to people
that you trust, in the organization and get a sense
of what are they saying, and it sounds to me
like and this is what I thought. I thought, either
they're both gone or just Chris goes. And then at

(20:39):
the end of the year, you know, then maybe you
make the change with the head coach to see if
anything else changes, and tweaks as players kind of going, Wow,
the guy that drafted me's not here anymore. They got
that time he was a free agent, or is not
here anymore. You better step up your game because you
know the next person's coming in, goes. These weren't my guys, right,
So I think it's going to be a a what
do we see the Dolphins look like over the next

(20:59):
you know, weeks and months. But I don't think it's
a quick firing to the head coach. I think this
one you could play this one all the way ou
until December, see where the team sits, and then make
the decision there.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
What got him fired the quarterback decision, the coaching decision,
or the lack of culture that they appear by all
reports to have because of some of the personnel they've acquired.

Speaker 7 (21:27):
Yeah, you know, I think I think what got him
fired was if you're just really looking at what they've
tried to build for the last decade. They just can't
seem to build anything is sustainable. And I think mister
Rosslick said it and goes, you know what the offensive
line is still feels like kind of a mess. You know.
The skill guys, Yes, we got jam and wall right,
but we had to go get Tyreek Hill. You know,

(21:48):
do we where are we at? Skill wise? You know?
And I think it was just not the elite players
that you're not seeing, especially on the defensive of the ball.
You know, they're just good football players, but the elite
ones just aren't showing up. And I think there's been
enough draft classes to say who do you hang your
hat on? And so I think it's a it's an
overall I don't I never thought and I think we

(22:09):
talked about it. I never thought, too, we should have
a long term extension. I thought it would be like
a two or three year extension and kind of see
what happens. I do think the two of contract has
to play into it somewhat because you're just married to
him and it is what it is. And I think
that's a bit frustrating too, because I'm sure. In the end,
he signed off on that, and that's that's the decision
you make as a GM. You ride or die with
your quarterback.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. H Yeah,
I mean, I'm going to tell you I understand the
thoroughness by what you're talking about in terms of your
evaluation of everything in the organization until the season's over.
But I think we'd probably both agree. If you're get
rid of the guy who built the team and was

(22:49):
part of the build for the last twenty five years,
you're going to change coaches. You're probably going to change
quarterbacks as well pretty soon.

Speaker 7 (22:57):
I don't disagree. I think that that's more than likely
correct because of the fact that, look, you know, the
next person may hold on to him or you just
you know, eat it. I mean, that's the difference that
we have in the salary cap these days. When I
was gim over five years, the salary cap went up
one million dollars or the five year period.

Speaker 6 (23:13):
You know.

Speaker 7 (23:14):
Now we're seeing jumps of twenty twenty five million dollars
a year. So when you make a colossal mistake or
you admit a mistake, you can survive it. You can
survive the Carson Wentzes of the Worlds or whatever. The
big deal is that the quarterback in now Latua and
you just realize, we're just going to write that off. Understand,
we've got to make a change and change the direction.
So I do think two is probably done. But obviously

(23:37):
it's going to be up to the next season and
the next potential head coach.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
Stet gott Leaves show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
so then let's ask about the Baltimore Ravens. What can
we decipher from a team that had been kind of lost.
Now they've won a couple in a row, they got
Lamar Jackson back. What's the hope like that they can
turn the season around, considering the defense has been as
much of the issue as the offense.

Speaker 7 (23:59):
Yeah, I mean I think that they absolutely can turn
it around. I mean, the AFC North all lost, right,
so that's everything they needed to see happen, you know,
before their game on Monday night. And then you know,
now that this team is they can continue to get
healthy er and start to play a little bit more
consistent like they did last night on defense. I still
think the Ravens make the postseason, and I said that
when they were one in five. I'm like, you've got
to look at their schedule and it feels like this

(24:21):
is a team that could really get all the way
there and get back. And I'm not going to count
out coach Harbor. I'm not going to coun out Lamar Jackson.
So I think they're gonna role. I think they're going
to get back to five hundred in the next whatever,
it's going to be four to five weeks, and then
I think that they'll find a way to get one
or two games over that in market and I think
they'll be eleven in or ten and seven and be
in the postseason, and I think they'll be a scary
postseason team. They went to a slump and that's when

(24:43):
you wanted to kind of see what they do. But
I don't think they're going to fall back into that slump.
I think this team is legit.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Stut Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio, Mark domins
our guests. Of course, he's the former gental manager tamp
Bay Buccaneers. Works his entire professional life, like Chris Greer,
working up in the system, he worked his way up
in Tampa, So there's a lot of similar. He's there
here on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Would you re up Danny Dimes when you have all

(25:10):
of what he did with the Giants, the time with
Minnesota and eight games of success so far with Indy.

Speaker 7 (25:19):
Not yet. I got to see it play all the
way through. I want to see it in the postseason.
I want to see the whole picture. And I've got
the leverage to be able to do that if I
had to, you know, put the tag on him. So
I'm not going to be in a hurry to do this.
I'm you know, if I'm Chris Career. Excuse me, Chris Ballard,
I am, you know, ecstatic about this decision and what's
happened to our organization. And I've talked about, you know,

(25:40):
the entire offensive units as a whole is really playing well.
Tyler Warren has been a huge impact the offensive line
staying healthy, and obviously you know that Alex Pearce's are
having career years right at the right time, and it's
fourth year, so it's all coming together. But I don't
sit there and go, Okay, now, I've got to hurry
up and get a deal done. Even if I have
to pay more. Doug, I'd rather pay more and know

(26:00):
rather than, oh, I'm going to get a Baker Mayfield
deal three for one hundred million. I'd rather pay forty
five to fifty million year to make sure, you know
that I'm getting a guy that I think can do
it for you know, eight to ten years, and you
know that's kind of the hope. And so I'll pay more.
But I need to see more, and I believe in
what I'm seeing, but I still want to see it
against bigger opponents, bigger stage, bigger situations, and then we'll
look at it.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Stut Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Mark Dominic is
our guest. I'm trying to figure out Sunday Night football
because in the fourth quarter, the Packers look like a
super Bowl team, which they have occasionally previously. But I
also I think Pittsburgh's defense thinks, which was Sunday Night

(26:41):
more a case of Pittsburgh's defense just not being very
good or the Packers kind of finding the rhythm.

Speaker 7 (26:48):
Well, you know, obviously, you know, we've talked a lot
about Jordan Love, and you know, he looked fantastic and
was doing everything he wanted to do and I went
into the season believing in the Green Bay Packers. I
all was the one going in the season believing in
the Pittsburgh Steelers, and not just Aaron Rodgers. But I
thought the defense was going to be a big part
of what they're able to do, and right now it's not.

(27:08):
It's just not coming together. And again, it's that secondary
to me that they just can't seem to find the
right fit of guys all at once click them together,
and so it's just very frustrating. I think that's why
they made the trade for Kyle Duggar to try to
get something else going on here within that organization, to
fix the back end of the defense. I think that's
a big pieces of trouble and and that's that's you

(27:28):
got to get through that first. They've got cash rushers.
I feel like they're you know, Peyton Wilson, they're inside linebacker.
May not be having a great season, but he's still
fitting his way to the ball. I just think it's
a secondary I think that's why they made the move
for Kyle Duggar. I know he's on the you know,
the backside safety part, but uh, they're looking for something
to kind of energize it and be more physical, but
also be more disciplined. It's a Mike common thing that

(27:51):
you would expect, but this is a Steelers defense, especially
the secondary, and Steelers fans know never quite find a
way to get it fully correct. And I think that's
what we saw.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
We're only seven games in and he's been banged up
even for those seven games after missing his first year.
But you do you watch Danny Dimes who they had,
You watch Sam Darnald who they had, and you got
to ask yourself, did the Vikings make the right decision
at quarterback? What's your opinion?

Speaker 7 (28:21):
My opinion is I want to see more out of JJ.
So you know, it's it's one thing Danny Dimes, you know,
was there, but he had the opportunity and he left
and I can understand why. But with JJ, I just
need to see more. Still, I don't feel like the
book is written on JJ. There's not enough starts read
to his belt. And now that he's going to be

(28:41):
back and I think able to go out there and
run around, let's see again, he's thrown forty one passes
in the National Football League total in his life, you know,
so until he gets the two hundred, three hundred passes
and attempts. It's really hard to write anything. I know
it's been frustrating. I know it's been one good quarter,
but I still think he's got it, and we'll get
to see it this weekend and see how they play.

(29:04):
But I think that overall, I believe that he'll be
the quarterback in the future, and I believe that they're
in good hands, and I would stay maintained. I would
maintain that statement with the game of Detroit this weekend.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Demiko ryans he went to that place where it feels
like coaches only go when they're fighting for their job,
which is ah. The media is just negative. They're all negative.
Like we're talking Houston media. That's that doesn't feel like
the most negative media. What's your feel for Dimiko Ryan's
year three after really having a tremendous year one, okay,

(29:39):
year two, and now some struggles in year three.

Speaker 7 (29:42):
Yeah, I know they have had some struggles, but they've also,
you know, had some really nice, nice victories, certainly this
last one he gets the forty nine ers say, look,
they they had rough starts, right, I mean they lose
those first three games something by about you know, whatever
ten twelve points by those three games, and so I
can understand why there's a little frustration. But they're fortunately
they're in their division, which is them in the Colts,

(30:04):
fighting for it, and although they're three and four, Dimico's,
you know, I don't agree that to me is just
hating on us. I think that it's just one of
those things where I think that expectations were to continue
to see the acceleration. They haven't done that. But it
doesn't mean the meeting is against them, and I don't
think they will be. They've got a really interesting game
this weekend against the Denver Broncos that I'm very fired
up to see, and they got back to back AFC

(30:25):
South games, which will be critical for them to get
back in this hunt. They're one of the teams that
I would have thought would be in the playoffs. I
thought they were in the layoffs at the start of
the season. It's going to be an uphill battle because
they still have some really tough ones, but they got
still both games against the Colts, and they got the
Chargers and the Chiefs game less. So there's a lot
of work to be done, but I think we'll see
consistency but I think it might be a nine and

(30:45):
eight type of year.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Mark, you're the best man. Have a happy Halloween. Thanks
much for joining us. We'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 4 (31:57):
All right, Doug, the game on this Halloween fry.

Speaker 5 (32:00):
Is I got DIBs.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
I got that.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
Count them zero Halloween related topics here for I got DIBs.
We start off with a football related topic. On Sunday
night in the Nation's Capital, the Seahawks and Commanders will
be playing. The Seahawks will be wearing their throwbacks from
the eighties and nineties, while the Commanders are going to
be wearing their Super Bowl era uniforms. So my question

(32:26):
to you guys, your favorite Washington Super Bowl era memory?
Three two one?

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Got Hawks?

Speaker 6 (32:40):
Oh so, I don't know if it was against the
David Woodley Dolphins or if it was against the Jim
Plunkett Raiders in eighty three, but whatever, John Riggins running
touchdown and the close up of his face with NFL films,
Which Super Bowl was it, Dan Barr?

Speaker 4 (32:56):
That would have been Super Bowl seventeen, Dolph, Oh yeah,
it was the Dolphins. Yeah. Sorry, I did say it,
but you were talking when I said it. It was
against the Dolphins. Then they lost the next year to
the Raiders in Super Bowl eighteen. Remember I will take on. Oh,
go ahead, Doug, I got DIBs. I got DIBs on

(33:19):
the Hogs. The Hogs are their offensive linemen. They would
flash to the stands and they would be there would
be fans dressed up with the with the pig nose
and the hogs. Mark Shlaret, of course, was a hog
back then. I know you you may think that I
would take when RG three's leg was turned a different

(33:40):
way against the Seahawks in a wild card game when
he probably shouldn't have been playing at all. However, I'm
gonna say the fun Bunch. I'm going to go back
to the John Riggins era. But it wasn't involving John Riggins.
Remember they would all get in the circle and do
their high five.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
Yes that those are the only two choices I had
on this thing. Was fun Bunch or the Hogs?

Speaker 4 (34:01):
Yes, the Hogs. Sam, do you have any Washington? I
don't go on.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
I'll give you one.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
I'll give you for me, Doug, thank you.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
I'll give you one. Sam. How long have you been
a black quarterback?

Speaker 4 (34:12):
Ah? Yes?

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Famous famous question asked at.

Speaker 4 (34:15):
The Super Bowl to Doug Williams.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
Doug Walliams.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
Yes, Super Bowl twenty two against the Denver Broncos. All right,
A lot of conversation this week about what the best
head coaching job available is in the sport of college football.
I want to know, period, guys, what is the best
college football head coaching job in college football right now?

Speaker 1 (34:35):
The best coaching job in the entire sport?

Speaker 4 (34:39):
Yes? Three, two one go. I got DIBs on Ohio State.
I do think of the amount that is put into
the program. I'll say the Buckeyes.

Speaker 1 (34:54):
I got DIBs on Texas A and M Texas A
and M. Can I give my logic why it's better
in Ohio State?

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Yeah, go ahead, because they don't.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
They've never won anything in the last thirty years. Right.
The problem with Ohio State is, no matter how much
you in, you're not Urban Meyer. You're Netbrook going to
be Urban Meyer. And then you got Jim Tressel, you
got Hayes. I mean you you're fighting ghosts, fighting ghosts.

Speaker 6 (35:25):
You know. I don't know much about College Station and
I don't know much about Columbus Ohio, But I consider
lifestyle Texans. Why not coach in the greatest state in
the nation and don't at me about Gavin Newsom, homelessness
and traffic. Usc located in the heart of one of
the most famous cities in the world. You get the lifestyle,

(35:47):
you get the weather, you get all the resources.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Lots quarterbacks, lots of players.

Speaker 8 (35:51):
Sure, I got dvs on LSU currently open, interesting rich
Louisiana talent down there, and not a lot of other
in state of programs to compete with.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
So allow me to Iowa Salmon and say I would
have taken Texas or Oregon, but Oregon just because I
don't think there's as much pressure as other schools. But
I could be wrong. Ducks Nation and Phil Knight could
tell me, oh yeah, that obviously is part of it,
all right, guys. Former favorite former Toronto blue Jay playing

(36:26):
game six tonight in Toronto.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
I mean I got DIBs on manager Cito Gaston just
because I don't know anybody else on Earth named Cedo,
and I know Cito's probably his nickname, doesn't matter. He
goes by Cido Gaston. Nobody else goes by Seido.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
My first ballgame ever, Onto is a county stadium. Brewers
face the Blue Jays and Dave StEB was hte great name,
so we're going Dave Steve slide piece.

Speaker 6 (36:53):
I got DIBs on a shortstop, A switch hit in
short stop. I don't think he was a part of
either of the World Series titles. I could be wrong.
Tony Fernandez. He would have this like submarine delivery. He
was so smooth. Special place in my heart for switch hitters,
Tony Fernandez.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
I'll throw it, Sir Sean Green good friend w of course,
was the first round traff pick of the Blue Jays,
coming up next to The Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Oops
