Speaker 2 (00:18):
In Old AFC West showdown tonight in the Mile High City,
Raiders and Broncos get things going in week ten. Welcome in.
It is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Hit Carry up at
Carry twenty five roads. You can find me at dan
Byer on Fox in a week carry Well. There aren't
a lot of huge spreads in the National Football League,
closer games than you would have had maybe in a

(00:41):
couple of other weeks. Tonight you've got the biggest spread
of all the games that are going to be played
in week ten, nine and a half in favor of
the Broncos. You've got Detroit an eight and a half
favorite on the road against the Commanders, who are playing
obviously without Jayden Daniels. But you got a lot of
two and a half, you got some four and a half,
you got some one and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Should be a very competitive week in the NFL. In
Week ten, Yeah, they're usually all one score games. And
so even when those sprants get to that double digit mode,
I never really feel safe with any of those picks.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Ever, So it could be a season where you have
a team that's a wild card team and ends up
running the table and going to the super Bowl and
winning the super Bowl. It's happened before, it's happened recently.
Maybe it'll happen again here in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, we've talked about it. This season seems very wide open.
You know, you have bursts of teams playing really exceptional football,
but then most for the most part, has been averaging,
so meaning teams haven't had that killer instinct yet and
so for them to get to this point in the
season with the halfway mark, I think we're gonna start
sansum separation a little bit here as we move forward.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
And I remember the Pittsburgh Steelers when they, unfortunately for me,
beat my Seahawks and Super Bowl forty, that crazy run
with Ben Roethlisberger in his second year, and they all
asked the Colts in the divisional playoffs and they went
to Denver it ended up knocking off the Broncos before
the refs allowed them to win Super Bowl forty. But
there was a there was a road warrior mentality for
Pittsburgh that year, and it helped them bring home.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
A Super Bowl crowd similar to Arizona.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Arizona was close to doing that same thing, got to
the Championship game and lost to the Pittsburgh Sailors again
and that Super Bowl. So yeah, it definitely can't happen
where teams get hot and make that run.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I know it's happened before, but as it happened in
twenty ten, don't call it a throwback. Throw Back Thursday,
Jason Stewart's our executive producer, Manti Blanios this yere as
is Iowa Sam hanging out?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Jason, take it away, Thank you, Dan.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
I'll take it from here.

Speaker 6 (02:42):
I'll take it here.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
Something extremely happened, extremely exciting, happened sixteen years ago, almost
to the date. I'm I mean, I'm just gonna set
the scene a little bit. Twenty ten, second week in November,
first week in November, the Arizona Cardinals I think, visited
the Minnesota Vikings at ten twenty in the first quarter

(03:07):
as Brett Farr was breaking back to pass towards Greg Lewis.
The ball is intercepted by Carrie Roads. What intercepted by Carrie?

Speaker 4 (03:20):
Told me this?

Speaker 3 (03:21):
I don't talk about everything, Dan, I don't give myself
too much.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
But it doesn't stop there, Dan, Carrie. Carrie returns the
ball sixty six yards. Sixty six yards what against Brett
Farv This doesn't end will only for the ball to
be Jared Luis by Greg Camerrio FuMO recovery Vikings.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Hey, it was bad too. I had to go back
out on defense. I don't want to do that. I'm
a tired.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
Sixteen years ago almost to the day, Carrie, what do
you remember about that game other than that amazing play
where you intercept a Hall of Famer?

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Yeah, I just remember that wasn't my first time intercepting them,
but it was my first time fumbling the ball in
the end zone.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
But I didn't.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
It wasn't for me trying to reach out or do
anything like dropping the ball. Early Camillo came and got
me and he just stripped it at.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
The goal line. I was so upset too, because they
had to go back on defense. I was tight.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Can you imagine it right now in your mind as
it's happening of being.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
I know what I did wrong and everything I was like,
I picked it off, made the first guy miss, I'm
running down down the sideline. Two people are coming to
get the angle on me, and I cut back on them.
And when I cut back, I was clear. But that
cutback gave Camillo time to get back into play from behind,
and so it was a tough one. Coach gave me
grief all year about it too, every time hold it

(04:45):
high and tight care.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
I was like, listen, well.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
The good news is you didn't need those points because
you lost by three and overtime to the Vikings. And
I want to say, the biggest humble Bragg maybe in
the history of this show happened two minutes ago when
Carrie and the MI don't telling the story just said
that wasn't the only time I intercepted Hall of Famer
Brett Farr.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Did you yell as you were running down the sidelines,
like give me my own office, give me my own
locker room, because that's what he had when farvis with
the Jets.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
That's right, so he did not.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
They didn't far didn't change with the the common Jets
players say and I've.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Told you before, I love Brett, so Brett's Brett was
a cool guy for me, and so to pick him
off again was was pretty pretty cool for sure.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
I gotta find this highlight.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
You don't I thought I liked you guys too. We're
going to start with that and I and the throw
back twenty ten.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
They named a town not far from here after Greg
Camio after that play I've got outlet.

Speaker 7 (05:46):
And yeah, everyone cat exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Oh man, it wasn't twenty ten that the Green Bay
Packers did what I was saying. They got on a run,
ended up winning the Super Bowl later on the next year.
But in twenty ten they weren't the team that we
thought that they needed to be. They had to go
on a winning streak at the end of the seasons
you can get into the postseason. I remember I was
at the game at Lambeofield when they beat the New

(06:12):
York Giants in the second to last week of the season,
kind of started their winning streak and then lo and
behold they go on and win the Super Bowl title.
But Cream Bay was not a lock. They were good.
And then it was the next year where they had
the one loss season. But we're upset in the playoffs
by the Giants, but it was a regular season game
against the Giants in twenty ten that I was at

(06:34):
at lambeau Field that they ended up starting their run.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
I just want to thank you guys for allowing all
the trauma and the pst PTSD to come up. Right now,
I'm sake and thinking about being that close to having
another touch.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
This is this is why Jason Stewart is the best
that he does. I thought something happened in the Broncos
Raiders rivalry because it's usually tied to that night's game
or that night's matchup, but completely different.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
It's just yeah, I was easy, easy topic Podder today.
Thank you, Jason.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
It was such a gem because you know when I
when I try to find specific things to to start
the uh, don't call it a throwback. I always look
for specific moments or just familiar names. And I can't
believe I came across this gym our very own Carrie
Rhoades with a remarkable play and just I just want

(07:24):
to make this clear, he did not pick Brett fav
Off just once, No, just multiple times, multiple times. Sam,
do you remember anything from twenty ten? I want to
I want the listeners to go back to twenty ten.
What were you doing in twenty ten? We were in
the middle of Obama's what second oh no, no, first term? Yeah,
before the midterms. Actually, I think he was able to

(07:45):
do some stuff. Sam, what do you remember most about
twenty tire we go? I mean I was, I was
paying close attention to those Packers. I just want to
I remember if Rogers suffered a concussion and a loss
of seventy three loss to the Lions. This was in Detroit,
and then yeah, they took another loss to the Patriots,
and then they reeled off two wins to get into

(08:06):
the postseason. So basically what I just said, Yes, but
they was out the concussion, so it was a little
bit of I think they finished ten.

Speaker 8 (08:13):
And six and then then they started their their run
to a championship. What was I doing? Very disappointed in
Hawkeye football. They were supposed to win it all, win
the Big Ten, at least be very good in twenty ten,
but they disappointed us and finished eight and five, though
with a win over rank Missouri team and the Inside
dot combole, how about that eight and five?

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Micah Hyde with a pick six in that game.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Just to kind of piggyback off that. I remember that
season the Packers. They started out the year with a
win against the Eagles and then they ended up I'm totally.

Speaker 8 (08:46):
Just yeah right here, actually started out three and one,
all right, Matson remember overtime about twenty ten in the
Packers season that I'm kidding it.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
I'm kidding.

Speaker 9 (08:57):
In twenty ten in college, I was not worried about Packers.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
The thing was still in school.

Speaker 9 (09:03):
Yeah, I was in college talking smack maybe about Lebron
James and his decision because I was like, stink Cleveland,
sink Cleveland, Just.

Speaker 7 (09:17):
Why are you going to go?

Speaker 9 (09:18):
I was a fan of Lebron at this time, so
I did not I did not want him to make
that move because I thought it was very like, why.

Speaker 7 (09:25):
Are you doing the taking an easier route here?

Speaker 2 (09:27):
My god?

Speaker 7 (09:28):
Stay?

Speaker 9 (09:28):
And so that's definitely something I was doing while enjoying
a cocktail.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Probably how nervous he was where he did like his
head shake like I'm gonna take my talents to South
Beach and play for the Miami Heat. And he had
this nervous tick where he just nodded feverishly like almost
trying to convince himself that he was doing the right thing.

Speaker 9 (09:51):
Yeah, it was a little awkward, a little, a little, Yeah,
it was a little.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
It was.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
It was so awkward that I think it's some of
the greatest TV we've actually I have, and I wish that, honestly,
I've said it. I wish more free agents would do this.
It completely ripped the heart out of Cleveland.

Speaker 7 (10:06):
It really did right like it really did.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
That's like taking your date or fiance and you're about
to get married. Zara can't do it. I'm gonna leave
with that girl and leading the wedding. That's what he did.
He brought everybody there to see what he wanted to do,
and then he ended up breaking their hearts.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
And this fam will take my talents to Southern Beach.

Speaker 7 (10:29):
Where is he going to take his talents now?

Speaker 9 (10:30):
Because the Lakers don't want them?

Speaker 4 (10:33):
The chiropractor picks that sciatica. Yeah fixed the Sciatica. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Turn on your Side twenty ten was one of the
greater runs, one of the final fours we talked a
lot about on The Do Gottlieb Show. It's when Butler
made it to the National Championship Game and my Dookies
College hoops and yeah, Duke ended up surviving, but they
were a half court hey from Gordon Hayward away from
uh possibly the greatest upset that we had we had

(10:58):
seen in the NC.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
Double Tournament, and that ball was online. Yeah, hit the backboard,
the hit the front rim and almost went in.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
That was a big, one, magnificent scene in Indianapolis where
Butler's located. To be able to play in front of
that many fans and have that sort of drama against
the team of college basketball, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
It was huge.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Twenty ten for me was one of the watermark moments
in my career. I was actually out here in LA
I was training for the twenty ten season, coming off
an AFC Championship run with the Jets, And you know,
I'm here training getting ready for the season, and I
come home from workout. I'm sitting in front of the TV.

(11:37):
I have a million myths calls. I have no idea
why I'm turn on the ESPN. And the first thing
that comes across the bottom of the ticker on the
ESPN it says no, then, no, none, This jet has
flown the coop And I.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Was like, Whi's jet? And it was me.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
I got traded Arizona in twenty ten, and so that
was the birth of Me and the Cardinals ten.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't say this, Uh you know
this jet has hit the roads, you know, something like that.
It could have been more clever. Yeah, sure, carry on,
right or a new game? What early fall spring twenty
twenty six. We got a new game coming up, Jason

(12:20):
with Carry Rhads.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
I don't know if I want to give it away
yet beginning, okay, alright, In fact, you know what, fair enough,
I did want to.

Speaker 7 (12:28):
I love the tease.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Yeah, I have a feeling I know what Carry Rhodes
was listening to that day when he had all the
miss calls, because he was listening to this banger from
twenty ten that everyone loved.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
It's not only times that there on you.

Speaker 9 (12:55):
Nothing on you.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
I'm guessing Carry Rhods is the one person in the
studio that could hit the note just hit in that
famous chorus that's Bob top the charts for seven weeks
and twenty ten. I love this song about you, guys,
but I think all of us made out with our
significant other many times to this tune. I't know about you, guys.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Bruno Mars is the is the quintessential like rock stop
pop star. I think he's the most talented guy that's
going right of a dancer too.

Speaker 7 (13:29):
Yeah, yeah, he's super naturally. I don't think he's trying exactly,
which is annoying, Like I don't even think you're trying
to sing. I think he just comes out.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
It's so good, it's so good, so good.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
I mean you can speak to this, isn't he kind
of like Prince and that? Can't he play all all
the instruments? Yes, and hit all the notes? I mean
as a phenomenal time.

Speaker 8 (13:47):
And remember he hosted SNL. He was hilarious, he was great,
He was great. He can many towns, many talents for.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
I wasn't a huge fan of Bruno Mars. Yeah, to
be quite honest, I don't know. I just know never
took to it. But in seeing a super Bowl halftime
performance he was the halftime performance in the Seahawks went
over the Broncos in New Jersey and it was a
really really good show. Yeah, it went for just the
fifteen minutes that it was.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
He had like a.

Speaker 8 (14:14):
Tiny, little circular stage and he was just like little,
you know, fire feet.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
It was amazing. No, he's amazing, for sure.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Absolutely a great year in music, TVs, movies. I know
I got I got nothing. I just know that's usually.
I haven't even gotten to my golf about this. I
haven't gotten my.

Speaker 8 (14:34):
Golf Doug when you need him for the movie recap, No,
I need Dan to get to his golf as we
effort the pop culture.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
So this is what happened in golf. Phil Micholson won
his third and final Masters of his career in twenty ten.
I was fortunate enough to be at Augusta National that
Sunday when he won, And it was also the return
of tiger Woods post scandal. Ye yes, I did not

(15:02):
expect that from Monzie because tiger Woods winning the twenty
nineteen Masters was an absolute love fest. In twenty ten,
he was either Tiger Woods the great golfer or the
scumbag who cheated on his wife. One yes, with all

(15:22):
these women. And as he was walking down the fifteenth
fairway on Sunday, half of the grand stand that I
was in stood and applauded like they would for many
a Master's champion. Others sat and did nothing. Really, it
was so eerie because it was it's freaking Tiger Woods.

(15:42):
But you have to remember at that time how toxic
everything was around Tiger and then you fast forward to
him winning in twenty nineteen and it's an absolute love fest.
But at that time, Tiger Woods was viewed by many
as the cheater and that scandal was his return twenty ten.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
And the crazy part about that is he cheated on
his wife. It's tough, and we know it's wrong, but
he didn't hurt it all. He didn't hurt it all.
He didn't do anything like that was the problem.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
People had were I think the number of women, yeah,
but also him trying to portray him being a family
man using and then that going on.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
That's what I think a lot of people. Was he
portraying it or did we see it that way?

Speaker 3 (16:24):
You think he was actually giving that off like I'm
the family man Tiger or were we given that to him?

Speaker 2 (16:30):
I think that I think that, I think that he
you thinks so, yeah, yes.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
I also think that the reaction of his wife just
like inflated the controversy. It's almost like with these athletes, wife,
you know what you're signing up for kinda and they don't.
They don't add to the drama when this comes up.
But she went full bore, like she was extremely offended
and shocked that it happened. And it didn't it didn't

(16:57):
help his cause.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Yeah, and because she was tied in like with the
golf community, was with players, because she was a nanny
to Yes, per part of it was a who is
a player introduced to Tiger? You know, so some people
felt really like, oh, geez, I'm the one that brought
her into this, you know, to this world. They felt,
you know, very turned back and yeah, what a Lebron's

(17:18):
decision and wow, and the.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Scandal of the time.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Tiger got busted in late two thousand and nine, but
then his return ended up coming in twenty ten.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
Speaking of drama, and I'm gonna start talking about scripted drama,
all right. This is one of Montsi's favorites. She brings
us one up a lot. Modern Family became a major
sensation in twenty ten. It started in twenty two thousand
and nine, twenty ten. It just it kind of hit
its stride and became a big deal.

Speaker 9 (17:43):
It's so good. The early seasons are so good. The
later seasons you just watch because you've been watching, so
you want to see how.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
It is the kids being older, they're not.

Speaker 9 (17:50):
As funny, they're not as good. Hailey is great, but
Hailey was already like a teenager, like older teenager. She's great,
but the kids as they get older. You know, you know,
a great show, great show, And.

Speaker 7 (18:00):
You're right the beginning the first episode.

Speaker 9 (18:02):
You know how typically pilots suck, like because they're figuring
it out.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
Right, Hey, they fly our planes, come on, respectful.

Speaker 10 (18:14):
Yes, that was what let's talk about that.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
There were The Office was another one with Steve Carrell,
like where their first six episodes were so good. But
Manzi's right, the pilot for the Family excellent. Chef's Kiss
Wait what made that so so good? I never watched it, honestly.

Speaker 9 (18:33):
It's it's the writing and the you can't I just
don't think you can teach comedy. It's about timing, you
know what I mean. And all of them just got
I don't know if the editing was the one that
made it, but I don't. I think it was just them,
like they.

Speaker 7 (18:44):
Just all clicked.

Speaker 9 (18:46):
And Phil who is Phil Dumphy? I can't think of
his name, Tyberrelle. He normally did dramas. This was the
first time he ever did a comedy and they there
was like very split on him, like people were like,
he's not the guy at someone else. They recorded the
scene at the end of the pilot where he shoots
Hayley's boyfriend with the baby gun on an iPhone to
show the people, look at how good this guy is,

(19:08):
and that's.

Speaker 7 (19:08):
How they booked him off of an iPhone.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
Well, in comedies you need the straight man, so if
he plays a straight man well to what they're doing,
it will work.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Can I tell you what my favorite Modern Family I'm
not gonna say because the joke is whatever, but it's
when Dylan sings is I just want to do you?

Speaker 7 (19:24):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, and then but the end is all of them
singing it in their heads coming yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
I like that is. I thought that that was yeah,
so smart.

Speaker 5 (19:36):
So Carrie, you've never seen the show.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Now that's it.

Speaker 5 (19:39):
I think I think you would hold up if you started.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
I'm coming out right, Okay, we'll do it. Let's just
say it.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
It lives, It still stands up. If he was to
watch start watching it today, he would love it. It's amazing.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
I'm gonna throw another show out to you guys, and
it's simply. I would think it's kind of in that
same vein because they do the first person like narrative
thing as well. But everybody loves Chris. You guys saying
that at all way back when, Yeah, everybody loves Chris.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
The Chris Rocks. Yeah, I've never seen it, but talk
about it.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
Smart and funny like.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
I had never watched it at that time either, but
I watched it this year recently and it steel holds
up and I just love at that time and even
what we're talking about right now, the things you could
still say and do at that time in comedy matter,
and I think that's part partly why it's funny as well.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
I like to oh, sorry, no, I was gonna say,
I remember that show as well.

Speaker 8 (20:27):
Go ahead, Sam, I like to throw one more show
out there that was just getting into its heyday, into
its heyday.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
And the theme song goes something like this, wow wow wow.

Speaker 8 (20:41):
Breaking Bad, Yes, two thousand and eight it started, but
by twenty ten it was humming along nicely.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
I got a bad cold. See that's what you did,
Demanci at the pilot. I took Breaking Bad and I
made it me and I made it about me. But
it completely threw you offense.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
I don't even Here's the same thing with pilot.

Speaker 8 (21:02):
She said, pilots usually suck, and I said, no, they
fly our planes.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
That makes way more sense.

Speaker 7 (21:06):
No, we're talking.

Speaker 9 (21:08):
You've never heard of what a pilot is and TV
shows is I know what a pilot is.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Yeah, that's why it was a joke. But I do
have a bad cold, as you can tell. Yes, yeah,
I love Breaking I was fortunate enough to watch Breaking
Bad after so we could just go episode after episode.
Same thing with Game of Thrones. I'm so glad I
watched it that way instead of having to wait each
week or Oh man, Game of Thrones year is a

(21:34):
good Breaking Bad. Do you watch any TV. I'm more
of a movie guy. You know, a big movie.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
Speaking of the movies, you time. What a great year
twenty ten. Thank you, Thank you for taking us on
that ride.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
All right? Do you have a back end?

Again.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Just search Doug Gottlieb wherever you get your podcast and
you'll find today's full show on a best of version
posted right after the end of the show. Lakers got
a nice win last night over the Spurs. Coming back
Victor Woman Yama fouls out late in the contest. Yeap, somehow,
let's just foul out the guy that we all wanted
to watch. But let's do that now. NBA against the Lakers.

(22:49):
Make sure the Lakers get their win, make sure they
get their w Who wants to watch Victor Woman Yama
in the final minutes duel with Luka Doncic and the Lakers?
Why would anybody want to watch that? Side the point,
The thing that really got under my skin is the
Lakers or the Dodgers are showing off their world Series
Trophy at the Laker game last night, Like, how okay,

(23:11):
I get it. They won it on Saturday. Parade was Monday,
Uh huh. We're now Wednesday and we're still going around.
There was Jimmy Kimmel who was dancing with the Stars
on Tuesday, and I don't know, Carrie, if it's because, well,
he's carry world doom. Dan Buyer in for Doug Gottlieb today.
Jason Stewart's here Iowa, Sam and Manzi Blanios at the
news desk hanging out as well. I don't know if

(23:31):
it's because the Dodgers. I'm in Los Angeles and I'm
not a Dodgers fan because we've got a Dodgers fan
and Jason Stewart who has a bit of a different
view on this. But to me, it's like, all right,
where are we gonna see Blake Snell and Will Smith
show up tonight with the World Series Trophy. It's been
a NonStop tour since the Dodgers won on Saturday night. Well,

(23:52):
I'm okay seeing Will Smith all over the place. He
is another one of but my you know, he's a
Louisville bredren He went to the Universe Louisville. It so
he's he's always going to be a part of my world,
in my life.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
So as long as Will Smith, it's good. But I
do get it. It's it's over and done. We know
you want to You're supposed to win, all right, let's
move on. But I'm sure everybody else has a different
approach or insight when it comes to Now.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
I can understand a Dodger fan being like, I'm not
sick of it, But Jesson, you've got a bigger picture
on what this Dodger team actually is and why maybe
we're seeing them as much as we are.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
When I saw that you had interest in the story,
I was thinking this. I think that given the ratings
both American Canadian, and given the drama of each game,
especially over the weekend, I do think that this Dodger
team delivered a drama that we just don't see in
sports very often. This reality show where there were people

(24:47):
that were just kind of common sports fans, casual sports
fans tuning in and these games were just so remarkable.
I think this team did break through. Now, them being
in LA is probably the reason why you see them everywhere,
But I do think that there has been a lasting
power this week to this particular champion. And I'm gonna
draw this as a contrast. Two years ago, the Texas

(25:09):
Rangers won the World Series. Yeah, a lot of people
are like, really they did. Yeah, they did because nobody cared,
nobody followed it. There were no nothing memorable from that
series or that team. But this had so many moments,
and I do think that it has lasting power on
social media, specifically TikTok monci are you getting this five

(25:31):
that this is more of a famous champion than we
are typically used to seeing.

Speaker 7 (25:36):
Ah, I hear what you're saying.

Speaker 9 (25:38):
I don't know if I would articulate it that way,
but yes, this was not the easy championship win that
I think some people expected after seeing how the Dodger
has handled the Brewers. And it was an up and
down series with an eighteenth inning game where the Game
seven went to extra innings site it was epic, Like

(26:00):
I don't know it was. It does feel bigger than
it needed to feel.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
Well, I hear it. It feels bigger.

Speaker 9 (26:06):
Than I thought it would have felt had it You know,
if you would have asked me before when I thought
the Dodgers were gonna win, I thought the Dodgers would
have win not in seven games, but the eighteenth inning
game through everything you know out the window that I thought.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
So people love winners and the runner up gets no love.
But the Blue Jays were phenomenal in this series, phenomenous,
So like I think, yes, when you come over to
come out on the winning end of that, that is epic, right,
Like both teams were really vine and fighting for it
and scratching and clawing. The games were remarkable unsung he roles.
There was a lot of different narratives that were happening

(26:39):
at in these games in real time. I mean, Rojas
comes in and plays great defense and we know that,
but then he gets big hits and so I think
there was a lot of drama. And we are in
LA and it kind of lends itself together.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
What if they would have faced the Mariners? And I
say that because it's not a Canadian team and a
US team. Like you're in and you're tuning in to
see if Andy Richter can advance on Dancing with the Stars,
and there's is he still in Blake's he is, Yes
he is, Yes, yes he is.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
My wife watches. I don't watch, but yes, his wife
watches everybody made any guest appearances.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
I haven't watched, but there's there's Blake Snell and Tyler
Glass now and uh Dave Roberts sitting there. Will Smith
just awkwardly with the World Series trop and I'm like,
if if if I'm a Blue Jays fan and I
assume they get Dancing with the Stars in Toronto or

(27:43):
in Canada, I don't know, but I know if I
was in Seattle, or if I was a you know,
Brewers want to work but Yankees fan, if they would
have beaten the Yankees and seen that on TV, Like
what the heck?

Speaker 4 (27:55):
What are you doing? Like this?

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Yeah? Like why would I want to see these guys
walk around with their trophy so much? I get the
Lakers game because it's LA and they probably did a
car wash with ABC. But last time in the local
news it's you know, and the high speed chase ended
with the suspect apprehended. Today in al Hambro, Will Smith
was at a Raising Canes Like that's what it was,
like a transitioned like it was a news story that

(28:17):
World Series champion Will Smith was handing out you know,
drive through orders at the Raising Canes and I'm like,
how is this? How is this news? It ended up being,
you know, for a charity sort of deal, but like
we're still we're still on this. And then it came
to the to the Nationals perspective and the ESPN's like
for the Lakers game, there's Blake Snell and the Dodgers,

(28:38):
and it just is it's a lot. It was a
great series, don't get me wrong, but it's Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (28:43):
Now let's move on you l Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
But that's what I but I preface by saying that,
like if you were in Seattle and you're watching ESPN,
and then it's all right, great, we got let's show
the clip of the Dodgers winning it all, or Jimmy
Kimmel or Dancing with the Stars or what other show
we're probably gonna who knows, I don't know, maybe the
run of the Tunnel in Denver tonight, rubbing into the
Rockies fans.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
It just seems like a lot because they were still
celebrating this championship. To Jason's point, it transcends a lot.
I don't know if if this was the Yankees, would
you guys feel the same.

Speaker 9 (29:17):
I think it depends on did it go seven games
and the way it did because that was last year,
you know, the Yankees were a little bit underwhelming from
what the expectation was. And so I think also adding
a back to back, which hasn't happened like that adds
to it. And again game seven, Toronto looked like they
were gonna win. Yeah, in the eighth Inneen, it was

(29:38):
like Toronto's gonna win for so many reasons.

Speaker 4 (29:41):
Did you feel that way?

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (29:42):
Yeah, everything was going Toronto's way.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (29:45):
And Vladimir Gaurero Junior was a goal glove winner three
years ago, but all of a sudden he want to
be a platinum you know, glove for our first base
and what he was doing.

Speaker 7 (29:54):
Everything, everything seemed to be working for them.

Speaker 9 (29:55):
So I just feel like all all of that, it's
content matters. And if it would have in the same
series against the Mariners, seven games, all this stuff, I
think it still would have been as.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Crazyright question for Mancy and Jason the Dodger fans, did
you guys think this team was underachieving in the playoffs
up until that point?

Speaker 9 (30:13):
The Dodgers underachieving. Yes, I don't know if it's underachieving,
but I will say, like the Philly series that the
Dodgers did not win that series. Phillies just couldn't win right, right.
But then against the Brewers they looked real dominant and
then we you know what I mean, it was like
from one series to the next and then we got
I don't think they were underperforming. It just you have

(30:34):
so many stars and then it's like, oh, the offense
is not that great right now, the starting pitching is great,
but it's like they.

Speaker 7 (30:42):
Weren't They're still here. They were in it.

Speaker 9 (30:45):
I don't feel like they were ever blown out by anybody,
even though the Toronto had some decisive wins there.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
But yeah, I don't know, Kerry, you could relate to this.

Speaker 5 (30:54):
Okay, so you're a part of the team, yep, and
say in the locker after you've gotten a win, you
knew you didn't play good as a team, that you
just got away with that one, yep, just like something
luck went our way and maybe the talent prevailed or whatever.
But I was getting that feeling the entire postseason. That's yes,
that there they weren't playing very well, but there was

(31:15):
this one thing that kept them in it. That was
starting pitching. Then you get to the World Series and
I don't think we played better than the Bujet Oh,
I really don't. I don't think we played better, but
we won the series. But so to answer your question,
I'm a little bit more definitive than she is. I
think they did underperform, right, I thought they underperformed all season,
to be honest, but we pulled it out. Uh So, yeah,

(31:35):
that's my answer.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
Yeah, that's It's an interesting point then, from Jason's perspective,
because Jason says, all right, this isn't like the eighty
five Bears for dominance, but it's the eighty five Bears
for personality and relevance and recognizability if that's good work, right,
Like it's it's the Dodgers and the way that they

(31:57):
branched out and maybe with the team loaded with super
stars and payroll, the whole thing. It's Miguel Rojas who
ends up being the hero exactly. You know, it's Will Smith,
who caught ninety seven innings in a game earlier in
the series, coming out and being the hero.

Speaker 4 (32:10):
Iowa, Sam and.

Speaker 8 (32:10):
I have no problem with them parading around town and
it's Wednesday. The parade was on Monday. This one was
sweeter than last year. Last year's World Series was a
bigger billing, but it was a dud. Let's just be honest.
What the Daughters are out to a three to nothing
lead in that series and won it, and they won
it in five and so this one was a fight
and they won back deck and when you win it
like it's a fight, and it's the second championship in

(32:31):
a row, this one I think is way more memorable
than last year's champions.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
And I think it's useful for Iowa, Sam because I
didn't know if I'm coming from a biased opinion on it,
and I used Seattle as a situation. And obviously, if
you're in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, you don't get the LA
News to see Will Smith at a raising canes. However,
you do get Dancing with the Stars, you do get
Jimmy kimmellive, you do get the ESPN highlight and the

(32:57):
Dodgers at center court and holding it like the the
whole deal.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
So at some point, is.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
It is it touching everyone across the country with the
number of viewers and the Maybe it is. And that's
where I wasn't saying that I'm right or wrong. I
just felt that it was too much, but I just
didn't know what the temperature was of the Dodgers.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
The press.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
Do you want to call it? What the puck or
puck crack, puck crack. That's Sam's also, Now you agree
with Sam? Sam?

Speaker 7 (34:11):
This is our friendship. This is how it goes. We
give and take, give and take.

Speaker 4 (34:15):
It's a game. Of give and take.

Speaker 7 (34:18):
Exactly.

Speaker 9 (34:18):
Uh So, last night history was made once again in
the NFL by Alex Ovechkin.

Speaker 7 (34:23):
In case you haven't heard it, might as well hear it.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
And a puck behind that hat, Bennington, we're going to
play it, and he gave it away to Wolvachkin.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
The puck centered up here for check for a drive
and a puck. That is it star and.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
It's died hundred guys for rayleg Sander oh Banks.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Tend the nine hundred club has.

Speaker 7 (34:44):
Its first member.

Speaker 9 (34:46):
I mean, that's kind of crazy. Capital's radio network. They
crushed the blue sixth one was the final score there.
So the goalie that gave up that nine hundredth goal, Bennington,
you here in the call, they said that that he
like he kind of lost the ball, so he grabbed
the puck, I said, ball. He grabbed the puck and
he put it in his pants, and everyone saw that
he put it in his pants, and people were like,

(35:07):
is he trying to take the ball the puck away
from Ovechkin.

Speaker 7 (35:10):
Ovechkin gets the puck.

Speaker 9 (35:12):
But today before their game, he said that he basically
had an assist on that goal and that.

Speaker 7 (35:19):
He thought he should share the puck. That's why that
he had.

Speaker 9 (35:24):
He was joking that he had the assist because of
how he like kind of kicked it towards him or
flicked it or when he lost it. He's like, I
had the assists on the goal there turning the puck over.
I didn't think he'd mind sharing it, That's what he said.
I had the full intention to give it back to him.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
People were ticked.

Speaker 7 (35:41):
They were, well, I just would have been annoyed because
he's why did you put it in your pants?

Speaker 4 (35:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (35:47):
Can you just I don't know, put it somewhere else?

Speaker 4 (35:49):
Putting his puck crack was in the back.

Speaker 10 (35:52):
Oh yeah, Oh it was in the back. It looked
like it was. How could you hide that? How could
you possibly get away with hiding the nine hundredth goal,
that one and only puck for No cameras are.

Speaker 8 (36:03):
On That's what I'm saying, no cameras.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
I don't think it was a joke.

Speaker 7 (36:08):
Really, was he that dumb?

Speaker 4 (36:10):
There's no way you see it now and now it's gone.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
Because it would have been easy to just go over
and give it to the ref and have the ref
skate over and give it to the capitals where they
wrap some taper on it right nine hundred and take
it away, they would, so put it in your back pocket.
You gotta play with that, like, I know, you've got
to like tons of gear. But look, this wallet is
almost stanz alike. I cannot put it in my back

(36:36):
pocket because of how uncomfortable it is. But but uh no,
Noboddy Sam's got one as well.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
There's like coins in this one. I thought I wanted
to keep it. I I don't know.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
And again, if you allow it, maybe you should be
able to keep it. You give up a record setting
home run pitcher gets first DIBs. Yeah, is that how
it's ever worked?

Speaker 4 (36:56):
No, you're the victim. You want to think eBay value
immediately could sell it.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
That's that's what I thought. I guarantee see that he
probably thought, oh, this could maybe go for something.

Speaker 7 (37:05):
There's no way he was that dumb. I thought it
was just being a boy being a boy. You know,
this is funny. I'm gonna put it in my pants.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
Jerry Rogier was faking injuries to make one hundred thousand dollars.

Speaker 7 (37:17):
Okay, hockey players are the toughest. They literally have there
out there. They would not be doing that faking nothing.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
I just my whole thing with this story is not
it's not very hygiene conscious. In my opinion, I think
that's pretty nasty. Keep the puck where it's supposed to
be on.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Eyes and the hunts Gott's got buttocks sweat from Jordan
Bennington on there.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
I know you can't just wrap it up now.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
You gotta put a littlechlorox swipes on int or something
to clean it off right in the.

Speaker 8 (37:44):
In the words of doctor Indiana Jones, that belongs in
the museum go too, or the Hall of or the
Capitol's Hall of Fame, whatever you know, whatever.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
Right, Well, that's the case of puck Crack, puck crack.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
They get out there and pressed was the press Disney
that you meant to steal it?

Speaker 4 (38:03):
Jason Stewart, I just have one thing to say, Puck that.
