We've seen almost everything, so we know how to cover
almost anything when it's game time. Having experienced player help
you stay here of the game, put their experience in
a plant Farmers dot Com. I saw Zi and I

(00:48):
saw so I saw I got a chance to unbelievable
comeback dud down twenty three and the second half. So
I've I've called two games in the last week. One
has been a comeback from down twenty two in the
second half. That's you talking back on the road against
U c l A. Last night for Radio. I called
Duke's twenty three point come back. So I only do

(01:09):
come back. So now was twenty three? Next game I
do has to be twenty four or more point come back.
We'll talk about Zion Williamson and how he projects in
the NBA with Rick Buker, NBA insider from bleacher Report. Also,
how bad are things in l A As the Lakers
lose to the Hawks before a a prolonged All Star
break for Lebron and the Boys. We'll get to that.

(01:30):
But the news of the day is, well, there's lots
of news of the day. There's talk of a trade
that might happen in the Big Apple. Uh, there's there's
all kinds of discussions about Antonio Brown. But the trade
that did happen, it was a couple of hours ago
and it won't become official. They won't be able to
comment on it until the new football year begins in March.

(01:54):
But Joe Flacco is going to be a Denver Bronco.
And here's what you're going to hear from a lot
of people. Uh, John Elway, what is he doing? Other Ravens.
They killed it with Lamar Jackson. What a great move.
Clear out Flacco and and you get Lamar Jackson. And

(02:15):
I'm here to tell you I think this is the
best possible scenario for the Denver Broncos. It's the best
possible scenario. Joe Flacco is not a great quarterback. I'm
not gonna sit here and tell you that he's that
He's going to see a researchence in his career the
way that Peyton Manning did when he was there. He's
not John Elway at the start or at the end

(02:36):
of his career. No, but Joe Flacco is exactly what
you think he is. He has the perfect name, Joe,
Joe's average. If I said Joe was mediocre, you would
say that means he stinks, right, But mediocre means average.
That's what it actually means. And my guess is that

(02:57):
John Elways has sat there and said, I won a
Super Bowl as a general manager with Peyton Manning as
my quarterback who was below average. I want a Super
Bowl as a player two times late in my career
and I was average at best the way and Tom

(03:18):
Brady just won a Super Bowl. And how was his play?
He threw two should have been three picks in the
a f C Championship Game, he fumbled into a pick
in the Super Bowl. He was, by anybody's estimation average
at best this season. He wasn't spectacular. Like the way
in which you win in the National Football League is

(03:39):
when you have a quarterback that's not making a crazy
amount of money and you're able to beat a team
with a roster and a philosophy. I think the Broncos
killed it today. This is the best possible scenario for them. Like, look,
could I sit there and and nitpick and say, well,

(04:02):
you know, had you called the Philadelphia Eagles, maybe they
have Maybe they have a quarterback who's better than Flacco
right now. On the other hand, the ups and downs
of their backup quarterback is Joe Flacco has been the same.
He was the same guy before he won a Super Bowl.
He was a little bit worse at times. After the
Super Bowl. He had the bad back. He has been

(04:23):
a little bit injured. But for the most part, Joe
Flacco's two touchdowns, twelve to fifteen interceptions, and if you
consider he has a huge arm, don't believe me in
a seventy yard pass that end up beating the Broncos
and keeping Peyton Manning from winning a super Bowl when
he still had some juice in the tank, or Kevin
getting to a super Bowl. Probably their best team altitude

(04:46):
will help his arm. They do have a good young
talent based they're they're good at Philip Lindsay at running back.
They drafted a very good wide receiver. Like that's a
pretty good football team that still has Von Miller and
has reconfigured their defense where they think, you know what,
I think the Denver Broncos did really well, whereas the

(05:08):
Baltimore Ravens. We knew this was coming, We knew it
was going to be Lamar Jackson's team. But what more
do you need to see from the Chargers game and
from these type of offenses that leads you to not
think that Lamar Jackson is going to regress in year
two because the limitations of what Lamar Jackson is either
you run the same offense, which people figure out and

(05:30):
unless you can dominate somebody defensively. You know, anytime he
forced into third and long, you're feeling really good about yourself.
Or you try and make him into more of a
traditional quarterback, which is not who he is or what
he does. If you're run him like you're in him
last year, he's gonna get hurt. If you haven't dropped
back in throw thirty five times, it's not going to
be good I kind of feel like the I feel

(05:52):
like the Ravens. They did what they had to do,
what they were forced to do, and maybe the way
to make this work is to get a another Lamar
Jackson type to back him up, assuming that there's going
to be a time in which you're gonna need somebody
else other than our G three to be a backup.
But the defaming of Joe Flacco, who holds every record

(06:14):
for the Baltimore Ravens as won a Super Bowl, and
I'm not gonna sit here and tell you I'm not
I'm not on a on a pulpit telling you he's
a top ten, top fifteen, definitely quarterback. You could do
a lot worse, and the Broncos have done a lot worse.
I've always said this in regards to the quarterback market.
It's the exact same thing as what the Minnesota Vikings

(06:36):
did last year when they got Kirk Cousins. What else
is out there? Everybody says, well, why don't you go
get an elite quarterback? Hey, it's not easy to draft
a star quarterback. Those guys are hard to get. It
is a hit and miss proposition, and even when you
hit on the quarterback you don't necessarily win right away.
Like the Jets hit on a quarterback, were they good? No,

(07:00):
the Browns hit on a quarterback. They still won seven
games this year. Granted some of that was the coaching change.
And that's a team that's drafted well and drafted high
the last bunch of years. Like there's still a learning
curve in the National Football Like it takes a couple
of years. Whereas the Broncos now bought themselves some quality
time and in terms of who's out there on the market,

(07:21):
they probably got the best guy. So you can sit
here and tell me Joe Vlagos stinks. He doesn't stink.
He's a good Quote's fine, he's fine. And you know what,
the Broncos have been able to prove. When John Elway
won a couple of Super Bowls, he wasn't at the
height of his powers. People forget when John Elway was great.
They got blown out in the Super Bowl. Why because

(07:42):
they didn't have a good team around him. When he
wasn't great. When he was at the end of his run,
he was kind of banged up and he didn't have
the same arm. That's when they had to roll Davis.
That's when they had a great defense. That's an incredible
offensive line. You get cost certainty at quarterback. Case Keenum
returns back to being a backup, which is what he
is now. You got to you have a decent a

(08:02):
solid starter and a very good backup. You gott a
you got a young running back, You've got an improved
offensive line. Like I kind of think the Broncos did
a great thing today. Remember the Raiders are sitting there
in reset mode. The Chargers are loaded, but they have

(08:22):
no succession plan for whenever Philip Rivers starts to fade.
And the Kansas City Chiefs, who are arguably along with
the Charge. You know, a couple of the best teams
in football. We know they have no defense, and at
some point the very near future, they're gonna have to
pay Pat Mahomes. Look at the teams that have been
the most successful, and they all have something in common.

(08:46):
How the how are the Rams able to have this
great roster because they got a quarterback under a rookie deal.
You're not gonna have to pay Joe Flacco, Joe Flacco
superol m v P money. You don't have to This,
by the way, was the move con Kaepernick could have
made taking less money playing for the Broncos and betting
on himself, which is what Flacco is gonna have to do.

(09:07):
So I get that the Internet will tell you that
this is a terrible move for John Elway, who has
no idea how to evaluate the quarterback position. But instead
of evaluating the quarterback position as he previously did, which
is try and judge guys in college how they'll be
as pros with the Paxton Lynches of the world and
the Broncos Wilders of the world, instead he got a

(09:29):
Joe Flacco. Joe Flack was not great. Joe Flacco was
not terrible. Joe Flacco is just like his first name,
very very average Joe. But in the NFL, you get
the cost certainty of a guy who has played in
the playoffs, in tough playoff games, and you know he's
not gonna be too nervous to perform, and you're gonna
get him at half the rate of the elite quarterbacks.

(09:51):
Even if he has half the skill of the elite quarterbacks,
that's good enough if you can get a good enough
team around him. I feel like today is a huge
in for the Denver Broncos. Where's the Baltimore Ravens. You
can expect it's reasonable to expect massive regression as people
figure out that offense over the off season, and they're
gonna challenge Lamar Jackson to do some things that he's

(10:13):
not comfortable doing. All right, we'll talk some NBA up
coming next. First, I'll talk about Zion what I saw
and how I think he projects as teams continue to
tank for him and possibly the worst loss of the
season last night for the Lakers to the Hawks. Longtime
NBA inside a Rick Buker, who joins the show next. Also,
there's Luke Walton going to be the coach of the

(10:33):
Lakers after the All Star break. It's a legit question
right now, it's a legit question. We'll get to all
that coming up next the Dog Show. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Doug dot Leap Show weekdays
at noon Eastern three pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio

Fox Sports Radio. So I got a chance to see
Zian Williamson last night. What an unbelievable comeback for Duke
the Blue Devil's at Louisville. Down the second half, they
come back and win stunning, stunning, fashioned and uh Look,

(12:04):
there's a lot of things he does where you could say,
I haven't seen that before. He's he's six five and
a half six six, he's not big. He's why he
looks like he looks like And I think a lot
of you can relate to this. Um, if you go
to high school basketball game, this time you're playoff time.
You're like that, guys, why is the football player in

(12:25):
the game. Oh, he's there to set screens, right, He
like looks like a football player, and yet his his
movement is just electric electric. Um, he shoots it. Okay,
made a three. Uh. He's remarkably not just vertically athletic,
but he can go in there and spin and then explode. Uh.

(12:45):
He's a pretty good defender when he wants to be.
But people want to liken him to Lebron. They forget
Lebron was a point guard coming up. This guy is
a power forward and in two thousand nineteen, he's a
small ball center. He's more athletic than Draymond, but he
can do offensively potentially what Draymond can do in the NBA,
which is guard every position, and then offensively, he's a

(13:06):
freight train. He's crazy athletic, and he doesn't actually need
the ball in his hands a ton to be effective,
so he can play with other star players, unlike some
of the guys that come out where they can only
be effective they have the ball in their hands. I
don't think there's any doubt to be the numberulnerable pick.
I think there's only think there any doubt he'll be
a good NBA player. I think he's got to lose weight.
I don't know how that affects his game. And you know,

(13:29):
I think if you're reasonable about who you gotta put
around him, he can be really affective, would be a superstar.
I don't know. Let me ask him. Rick Buker, who
joins us from bleacher Report, what are people around the
NBA think of the potential of Zion based upon what
they've seen so far this year? Well, it's funny how
you you know, automatically made him the number one pick,

(13:51):
and I just you know what what I hear is, Yeah,
he may end up that depending on what the market is,
depending on who then there is the phenomenon of Zion
Williamson may get him there. But for many of the
reasons that you just stated, you know, Marant and R. J.

(14:13):
Barrett are are considered to be right in the mix,
and ultimately we'll see, we'll see where it goes. I mean,
this is this is what happens now, where a guy
is escalated to stratospheric heights before he ever plays a
minute in the n b A and then it's like,
oh wait, he has to be a superstar by NBA rules,

(14:36):
not by collegiate rules. And it is quite the different thing.
And I'll say, if you're building around a guy and
he's not a playmaker, it automatically, in my mind, takes
him down. And not because now I need he's not independent,
you know, and Lebron was a playmaker coming in. Uh,
so you know just how far he rises is and

(15:00):
whether he actually is the number one pick. I still
think there's some open debate on that. I would I
probably would have agreed with you had I not seen
him in person. And I just and I also think
that how many teams in the NBA want like man,
if you just find a small ball five that could play,
and he's he's the perfect small ball five in terms

(15:21):
of build, uh skill set, and he's not the passer.
Draymond might not. I don't know if he has the
basketball I Q of Draymond, but plays really hard and
is a much better athlete than Draymond um. I just
and I think he brings you something at both ends,
which you're right about playmaker, although Kawhi Leonard is not
a playmaker for other people, but it's because he plays
both ends right, right, and and and to that end.

(15:42):
So you're taking the number one pick, and you're basically
saying we're taking him for I don't know, not exclusively
for his defense. Would you say primarily for like with
the description of him as a defensive player is cantalzing
because the way the game is played, would you not

(16:03):
only would you take him for that, but if he's
the number one pick, is he going to wrap his
mind around you know, where I need to really put
my focus is being the best defensive player I can
be I that that's where I'm going to make my mark.
Is he willing to accept that and take that approach?

(16:25):
I don't know, but as we all know, to the league,
the hardest thing is for a rookie to play defense. No,
I agree, but I would also say that that what
he's doing at Duke and how they're playing through R J.
Barrett most of the time. You know, r J. Barrett
is is what you're talking about, a classic kind of playmaking.
You know, big guard, um but but but r J.
But r J Barrett. I don't know if he can

(16:46):
function without the ball in his hands, not being a
go to guy. Now, look, he may not have to.
But whereas I think Zion, if you put him on
a good team with other good players, he blends in
a whole lot easier. He's already kind of bought into
the idea of defense. You don't have to him to
buy into playing defense, much like you do most rookies
who are used to only being offensive players. Yeah, no, no no, no,
I get I get that. I just it's the dynamic

(17:07):
of being the number one pick. I'm looking at this
through the prism of being the number one pick. And
when you become the number one pick, suddenly everything changes
in terms of not just where you are, but everybody
around you and how you're judged and uh, you know,
like it or not. People look at numbers and so
and they look at offensive numbers more than anything else.

(17:30):
So that's where the pressure of can I be with
the number one pick is supposed to be, which is
in every way shape and form. I'm supposed to be
the best rookie coming into the game in the eyes
of the people that may be judging me, fairly or unfairly.
And how they gonna judge me. They're gonna judge me
by my offensive numbers. Rick Peger from bleacher Board joining

(17:52):
us Doug Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. How bad a
loss was that last night for the Lakers? Uh? Just
about as bad, maybe worse than the Pelican loss to
the Magic. Uh it is, it's bad. You needed something
to say, Hey, the Sixers game was the blip on

(18:13):
the screen? Uh, and not the Boston Celtics was the
blip on the screen? Or shall we say the second half?
I mean, now we look at the Boston win in
a completely different context, which was they were getting run
in the first half and it had a lot more
to do with Boston than it had to do with
l A And so yeah, I mean having that kind

(18:35):
of lost, and then the worst part is the timing
of it then going into the All Star break, and
there's gonna be a lot of soul searching, uh in
Lakersville as far as who do we go forward with
and where are we with Lebron and what messages are
being sent back and forth. Do they come out of
the break with the same head coach? And I don't

(18:57):
wish Luke Walton ill in any way, but this is
a different team. Honestly, this is a different team than
the one that he signed up for or the Lakers
hired him to coach. And whether you blame him or
you don't blame him, it just feels like the drumbeat
is getting wilder. It does. It really does feel that way.
Does he make it out of the All Star Break?

(19:20):
That's a great it's a great question. And I don't
know if i've uh put some feelers out to find
out more about that. I haven't. I haven't plumbed that
answer quite yet, but I think it's a worthwhile exploration.
At this point, it's possible. I think it's possible that
he doesn't. My auds odds are and I haven't even

(19:42):
looked at the schedule. I mean, so so much of
this is there's gonna have to be some meetings of
the mind and they have to find the big question.
And you and I think talked about it on Monday.
It's like the uh, the in and the up and
down apathy of Lebron James. How much of that is
informing what he wants to see happen at the head

(20:03):
coaching level. And I don't have an answer for that,
but we know the passive aggressive approach of Lebron James
at times, and it feels it feels as if some
of that is going on right now. Yeah, I guess,
I guess My question is that's what every That's what
a lot of people say, like, well, it's obviously Lebron
doesn't care that much or doesn't like Luke or doesn't
like how they're all playing, and that's why he's playing

(20:24):
this way. Is it possible that, in an effort that
that we're missing the fact that now, all of a sudden,
he looks thirty four years old, like a guy who's
been in the finals eight consective times, Like, is there
a chance that he's not the same Lebron James? Yeah,
Or that the weight of carrying this particular team as
young as it is doesn't allow him to be effective

(20:47):
or efficient in the ways that he could when he
had veterans around him that there were ways, because look,
the fact of the matter is, he hasn't been playing
hard at both ends throughout the course of the season
for a couple of years now and knowing when he's
going to dial it back and when he's going to
go hole hog. I mean there, the reality is, even
when he's gone whole hog, it hasn't it hasn't been

(21:08):
what it was, I dare say in the Miami days.
So it's a fair question though, like what I mean,
and that's you know, that's the other element to this
whole Lakers saga with Lebron is and I always thought
it was going to be a question like what does
he have left in the tank? What are you going
to see when you as you're as you're waiting to

(21:30):
compose this team around him supposedly to take another playoff
or championship run. What is Lebron going to be by
the time that you get there. And if we're already
seeing indication that he may not be all that Lebron
has been, then the Lakers may be on a timeline
where they can't they simply can't get this done. It's

(21:51):
it's it's absolutely crazy. Um, what about what about the Celtics?
Where are we the Celtics where I think beating because
of the comments of Marcus Morris, and because of the
collapse when Kyrie got hurt the other night, there was
this thought that, wait, maybe all is not right. Then
all of a sudden, Gordon Hayward has got a vintage
Gordon Hayward moments last night and they go and beat

(22:13):
the Sixers. And now the questions more about the Sixers,
what are you hearing about what's really going on in Boston. Look,
I was around the Celtics team when they were up
in Portland in November, and what Marcus said last night
or in the last couple of days is almost identical

(22:34):
what he said then when when we were just having
a conversation about concerns about this team, the attitude of
the team. And I wish I could give you a
definitive answer as to how I feel. The Celtics were
my pick to win it all this year, and I
still feel as if the champion is going to come
out of the Eastern Conference. But I and having seen

(22:58):
n the NBAH means coming to the East. Yes, the
the level at which I have seen the the Celtics
play when when they decide to play, makes me feel
good about that. The fact that they can't find and
that that they've found like a rhythm at times that

(23:20):
that tells me that I'm I'm right in believing that
what they're capable of, that they haven't quite figured this out,
and that we keep having these epic collapses for a team.
It's one thing if the Warriors do it right, because
they've already proved, Look, we know how to win a championship.

(23:41):
Sometimes we just it's not important enough to us. You
can say that still kind of sucks, but okay, we
get it. The Celtics shouldn't. Shouldn't they don't have that leeway.
You haven't done enough to to be kicking back and
or having these internal the spats about how the are
going to play. And so I'll only say this, The

(24:04):
only thing that I'm taking away from this is to
have a greater appreciation for guys like Phil Jackson and
Greg Popovich. And because we went we were so quick
to anoint Brad Stevens, and I think he's a very
good coach. But this being able to sort out the
egos that are big enough to win you a championship,

(24:25):
to keep them all on the same page and on board.
That's being able to do that is the mark of
truly great head coaches in the NBA, and Brad Stevens
Now is up to the test, is being tested as
to whether he can answer that or not. And we'll see, well, well, well,
I think some people have already put him in that

(24:46):
pantheon of best coach in the NBA. Are one of
the best coaches of the NBA. He's he's seeing his
finals exam right now whether he truly deserves to be
put in that category. Um, you mentioned you didn't mention
the Warriors as champions. What do you think is missing
in regards to the Warriors? Why won't they win a

(25:06):
championship this year? Defensively, I haven't. I mean they're defensive
efficiency rating and not to put too much emphasis on that,
but they're But there are eleven and even with their
their their run of late, offensively most efficient efficient team
in the league and they can still dial it up
in ways that that is impressive and in some ways

(25:27):
the Marcus has helped them on that front. But and
just watching them against the Miami Heat the other night,
Miami Heat got everything they wanted in the paint. The
rotations were bad. They were frustrated with the Marcus because
he was just slower in the wrong place. They were
slow and rotating out. And I know that they're capable
of of dialing it up. My question is, are they

(25:48):
capable of dialing it up to the level that they
have to for fifteen sixteen games? Um? Fifteen wins? So
excuse me, sixteen wins and um with with where they
are right now, and with the rotation that they have,
and where Andrea igudala Is and Draymond Green and and
honestly de Marcus Cousins. I just I feel as if,

(26:12):
you know, they still have enough firepower that they can
overwhelm teams during the regular season. When we get to
the playoffs and it gets a little more physical, I
don't think their offense is going to be as good.
And defensively, I don't know that being allowed to be
more physical is going to change the uh, the the
gaps that they have at the defensive end. Well, I mean,

(26:33):
it's amazing that you and I are the only people
seem to point out that DeMarcus Cousins dramatically changes them defensively, right,
because if they play him now, there's two guys that
can't switch. Right, They've always been able to hide Steph
as the one guy that they don't want to have switched.
Now there's two guys, and that totally changes the who
they are. And then if they take DeMarcus Cousins out,

(26:53):
now you're depending on Andrea Gudala, who's not the same
right he is he has he's been over the hill.
Uh during the regular season the past couple of years.
He was able to dial it up just enough, although
he's injured most of the postseason last year and now
it's a year removed from that. Like, I'm I'm with you.
I think people just assumed that you're adding de Marcus
Cousins one. He's never played in a playoff game, too.

(27:15):
He doesn't actually make them better defensively and offensively. He's
a volume He's always been a volume guy. And everyone says, well,
I'll be fine with less volume, Like no one ever
says I'm fine with less shots. Every Well, he was
four what he was four for seventeen in their last
game against you saw and uh, you know, the Warriors
ended up closing it out. It just having to look.

(27:36):
DeMarcus brings something that I've kind of forgotten that he
could bring. I mean, he brings some physicality. He brings
some toughness, he gives them a legitimate screen setter. He's
a better, better passer with quality talent around him than
than maybe I gave him credit for. I always I've
always been a DeMarcus Cousins fan. But when we talk
about the playoffs and the level of play and the

(27:57):
string that you have to be on collectively, I just
see I just see teams playing pick and roll and
if they've got a dynamic five, who uh can First
of all, warriors have to can't fall behind, they fall
behind them. They can't put him on the floor because
they can't play that slow. If they do put him

(28:18):
on the floor and he's out at the three point line,
if you have a dynamic center who is comfortable stepping
out and just getting a hand bothering him a little bit,
that changes his three point percentage. And then at the
other end on the pick and roll his ability to
kind of show and then get back to the big

(28:38):
I mean, Miami just destroyed them with them out of bio,
and you could see the growing frustrations, and DeMarcus was
frustrated to he knew he wasn't getting there. He just
he couldn't do anything about it crazy crazy stuff. Doug
Ot like show here on Fox Sports Radio. Sixers go
out and and add to Bias Harris, but they they

(29:00):
had chemistry issues before with Jimmy Butler and now they're
concerned about hiding JJ Reddick, which has always been the
problem with with JJ Reddick. Defensively, what's the state of
the Sixers look from a talent perspective? Did they get better? Absolutely?
I like the pieces. This is the danger whenever you
think you're you're if you're a title contender. This is

(29:22):
why title contenders and teams that actually played for the
championship generally don't make significant moves. Even with the trade
deadline moved up, You've got eight twenty games to get
everybody on the same page and seeing how these pieces fit.
And while on paper you could say, hey, look we've
improved and this is what it gives us, and we've
got another dynamic wing. Because I don't think they ever,

(29:43):
you know, they ever or didn't realize what they were
losing when they moved Robert to Covington's and even Dario
Sartz in the way that he played. I mean, I
dare say, if you could take it all back, if
somehow they could still have Dario Saris and Robert Covington
rather than going to get Tobias harrit with the Sixers

(30:06):
prefer that. I think if they, if they really were honest,
they'd say, hell yeah, because we knew how those pieces worked.
So I look, it doesn't make them better on paper? Yes,
are they going to figure that? Does it change my
view of them in the hierarchy versus Toronto or the Celtics? No,
it does not great stuff. Last thing, the Knicks have

(30:28):
lost seventeen in a row and it's pretty obvious that
they're tanking. Heck, you mentioned the Pelicans and their win
last night. Pelicans are tanking. I thought the commissioner was
appalled by this behavior and was trying to write this
and change some of the lottery some of the lottery stuff,
and it's it's not gotten better, it's gotten worse. There

(30:50):
has to be discussions about this in NBA circles. Doug.
The tanking concerns with the are on par from me
with the tampering concerns. You can't stop him. There's and
and the idea that you're gonna legislate it short of

(31:11):
just either doing away with the lottery or giving everybody
one ping pong ball. It is. I just don't know
how you change it. And it's the same with tampering
this idea were like I I the NBA is becoming
the n C double A. You're trying to legislate things
that you can't possibly get your arms around. So I

(31:32):
hate to be one of those that says, so wide try.
But in this instance, at the end of the day,
you got you have to show me in the business
model where tanking is hurting the NBA. The second you
show me that. The second you show me that, I'll say,
you know what, they really have to address this because

(31:53):
the league is going to be damaged. But the reality is,
if you have the top teams and they're playing exciting
back ascootball and you it it, and you have Zion
Williamson's coming along and the dream and wherever it might
be New York or wherever I call it, Transaction League.
Now that nobody sells hope the way the NBA does,

(32:15):
that's really what it is, because that watching the actual game,
it's the hope of we could get a D, or
we could get Zion, or we could get our J
or or we could get k D It's like that's
what everybody gets excited about. Everybody's a fantasy GM out there.
So are there games that are dogs and that we
don't tune into? Absolutely? Is it impacting the NBA and

(32:37):
their money making process? I don't think so. Great stuff,

This is game time on the Doug gott Leaves Show.

(35:35):
Valentine's Day is tomorrow. What gift are you getting for
the one you love? How about saving four and a
half care total weight diamond Hardpennant. Now just to show
Cuban whose boss this Valentine's Day at Hellsburg diamonds by
what he got the game today, Doug is real news
fake news? All right, let's try to go five for
five and real news or fake news, Real news or

(35:55):
fake news. Doug and last night's lost to the Atlanta Hawks.
Atlanta fans actually heckled Lebron James with chance of quote
Kobe's better end quote that is real news and spectacular.
Indiana fans wanted to heck Brandon Ingram by saying Lebron's
gonna trade you. But the Hawks, who by the way,
I was surprised that they had fans and they they

(36:18):
showed up last night and heckled Lebron James while he
was shooting free throws in the first half. Well, they
show up for Lebron that, you know what I mean,
that's actually active respect, you know, I mean so I
I you know, I think it's funny. I think it's funny.
And he missed it. I think he missed a couple
of the free through in which they were chanting that
and the Hawks, who are trying to tank, end up

(36:39):
winning the game, which hurts the Hawks and hurts the Lakers.
But I also like that there's fan interaction. But it
make no doubt, make no doubt about it. Like those
Hawks fans are only there because of Lebron. They can
talk all the tracks they want. They weren't showing up
if Lebron wasn't playing for the for the Lakers. Real
news or fake news. The New York Knicks were the
only NBA team to not scout Janice into a kompo

(37:02):
when he was a youngster playing in Greece. That is
real news and the spectacular. In a documentary that air
Saturday at t MT called Finding Janice, it was revealed
that twenty nine teams and all from the NBA went
to Greece to watch him with the New York Knicks.
The loan exception pretty amazing. Glenn Grunwald was the GM

(37:22):
back then, so you know, more people want to go
Phil Jackson let us before the Phil Jackson era. Nicks
also passed on him in the NBA draft, and at
least they didn't draft somebody's site unseen. But that is
I've said this about people in our business who ripped
who ripped The Knicks when they drafted Christas Perzingis, I
was like, look, you can rip him, but at least
you should have gone and seen him, because he did

(37:42):
work out in the States, and if you talk to
people in the NBA, they all raved about him. Be honestly,
they didn't rave about as much. It was just more
about potential. And let's also point out that that the
Bucks part of it was, you know, seeing his his upside,
his potential. Part of it also, and this is really horton,
is that the NBA has changed and they built a

(38:03):
team around him. So I think there's a lot of things,
but the Nicks not even scouting him. You know, everybody,
you're listen, you're allowed to mis evaluate people. That happens.
Sometimes you go see a kid and he's like I.
I talked to an NBA scout last night and he said, hey,
I went to the McDonald's practices and I came away going,

(38:24):
I don't get it with Zion Winds and he looked
over out of shape, he looks small, he looked a
little bit lost and play hard all the time. I
didn't get it. And then I watched him with with Duke,
and he's a leader. He's in much better shape, He's
bought in. He plays defense, he plays offense, he rebounds,
He for the most part, takes good shots, like totally,

(38:45):
totally in um so. I sometimes when you see a guy,
excuse your evaluation, but to not evaluate him when the
information was out there, somebody didn't do their jobs. So
whoever they're their head of foreign scouting at the time
was completely butchered. Real news are fake news. That Bill
Belichick has renamed his boat super Boat fifty three as

(39:07):
it is docked in Jupiter, Florida. I think that's fake news. Yes,
he did have the name of his boat change, though,
as some fans who spotted it in Florida noticed that
it has been updated from the boat called seven Rings
to now eight Rings. I didn't think that you could
keep on renaming a boat. I thought that that was blasphemous,

(39:27):
but apparently when it sound like it sounds like a dog.
Like a dog, you can kind of rename early on.
But once he dog knows his name and knows his name,
and it's not like a kid. You can't rename a kid.
A boat. You can name as many times you want.
All right, well, they've added it, so there's another ring.
It's a little bit like. You can do this actually
with dogs when you when you get it, when you
adopt a dog or whatever, or you get a dog
from from a breeder, right, they may have a name

(39:48):
from a breeder, and then you just change it to
make your real news are fake news? The defending World
Series champion Red Sox or the odds on favorite to
win it all again in baseball in that sounds like
real news, you are fake We're three for three Yankees
right now, the favorites, according to bet online at six
to one, Red Sox and Astros at seven to one.
Who's gonna be the starting pitching for the Anchors? Another

(40:10):
bullpen stack? But who's the starting pitching? Um? Gosh, yeah,
who am I? Why am I blanking? I? Didn't even
look into this, but yeah, John says Tanaka Savarino, you've
got um. Yeah, I know I'm missing someone else. Finally,
real news, fake news. President Trump at a putting green
and bunker installed in the White House lawn. Fake news?

(40:32):
Are the President himself chiming in? That's nice? Uh No,
he did have a golf simulator installed in the White
House so he can keep his golf game in shape
during the winter. I've actually played on one of these one.
One of my son's buddies had one, His dad had
one in his basement. They're pretty sweet. This is game

(40:52):
time on the duck Got Leap Show. Yeah, you can
play any course in the world. And then it's it's
supposedly pretty realistic. So oh, I mean, like, look for
a guy who he does get roasted for going out
to so many golf courses. Now he doesn't have to.
Doug James Paxton was the picture that I was blanking

(41:13):
on that they got from the Mariners. Yeah, James Paxton.
I still don't think that puts them ahead of the
Red Sox, but I deserved the right to be wrong.
Sometimes rumors don't carry much weight, but there's one The
NFL WHI should carry huge weight? Tell you what that is?

It's funny. Um. I literally just got off a plane
from Louisville and this is after crazy travel day. Like

(41:54):
both both days are crazy. As Ryan Music knows. The
yesterday's show was was from Louisville, thanks so much to
the I heard people out there for for housing us
for the show. Um, but yesterday was a little nuts.
I I try and take red Eyes one because I
could sleep on planes. I don't require a ton of sleep.
But also I lose I lose no time with my family.

(42:14):
So Monday I got done doing two shows. I did
Dan Patrick, then did my show. Tomorrow do Dan Patrick
show as well as our show. Um and uh so
I came home, I hung out my family, I coached basketball.
I have like a three hour basketball clinic on Monday's
and then I came home, put the kids to bed,
hung out a little bit with my wife, watched TV show,

(42:36):
and then caught a caught a lift to the airport
throughout Red Eye, and then everything was moving smoothly, and
then there was weather in Chicago, and so you know,
I got in about an hour before the show and
we end up end up being fine, but it was
pretty tight. Got out the plane, literally, did a radio show,
then went to the arena, hung out with the Louisville guys,

(42:56):
a little bit with the Dude guys, watched an unbelievable
basketball game, went to the hotel, slept for a couple
of hours, got up, went to the airport, flew landed,
and we taped the podcast. Now are taping the show.
But I feel great, and I think I feel great
because last night I saw an unbelievable basketball game. It
was it was just fun to be a part of.
And that's the second game I've called where a huge comeback.
We'll talk more about Zion Williamson when I saw how

(43:18):
he projects and why it's a different evaluation for this sport,
just like a different evaluation for the NFL because of
the evolution of both sports. Get to that upcoming The
Doug Ali Show is brought to you by Farmers and
Farmers we've seen almost everything, so we didn't cover almost anything.
When it's game time, have an experienced player uh there
to help you stay ahead of the game. Put their

(43:39):
experience in the play at Farmers dot com. Farmers, there
are certain taglines that we remember. You know. Among the
things that were bad about this year's Super Bowl, the
commercials were bad. Now, look, I fully understand that it's
hard to make funny commercials these days because it's hard
to be funny these days because with the exception of

(44:02):
being self deprecating, and it's hard for a company to
be self deprecating, a person to be self deprecating. It's
just hard to be funny because everyone's offended by everything,
or someone's offended by everything, and when your corporation you're like,
is it worth it? Like I'm sure we're on the
cutting room floor. Were some amazing and funny and smart commercials,

(44:24):
but would end up being on my television. We're awful, awful,
because tell me a commercial that you can remember, like
the Mercedes Benz commercials one of the best. And people
say the NFL it was okay, but that was because
in comparison to the rest of the commercials, there wasn't
much to him. And the commercials of my lifetime, um,

(44:47):
the ones that don't have a jingle, right, and the
jingles are you know, like Honeycomb's big. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's not small, Ramos, it's not small. It's not small, Ramos,
it's not small. You're supposed to say, no, no, no, no,
no no, Honeycomb's god a big, big taste, right, you

(45:07):
don't You don't remember the honeycomb jingle? You know. I'm
gonna be honest, I do not. Okay, the famous Wendy's
ad was what there's no way, no no, no, no, no,
no no, Dan Buyer, the famous Wendy's ad probably there
the old lady Beef remember that. Here's what doesn't John

(45:31):
John something recently? Not something? I mean, honey the little
Honeycomb is not recent, although I think they've flipped and
been recent. Okay, how about this one? You guys don't
answer because I think you'll know it Ryan Music. When E. F.
Hutton speaks, Okay, when E. F. Hutton speaks, what about him? Okay,

(45:57):
hold on, Ramos knows it? What about you? Dan buy
do you know it, yes, okay, alright, So so both
at the same time. When he have Hutton Speaks, people listen,
people listen. Talks talks, people listen. Yeah, you didn't even
get it right, dog talks. I'm okay, okay, I'll take

(46:17):
you a right. For the point is when he have
Hutton talks, people listen. Now. I use that because one
it's one of the most famous taglines in the history
of commercials on television. I remember from my childhood and
I've used that reference a million times over because it's
it's like something from you know, from Tom Sawyer or
something from you know, something that everyone remembers at least

(46:39):
a portion of from growing up. Is when he have
Hutton Speaks, we have Hutton talks, people listen. Jay Glazer
is the E. F. Hutton of the National Football Jay
Glazier's longtime NFO insider, and I don't remember Jay breaking
a story with exception of who's playing, not who's not playing.

(47:01):
But that doesn't mean that Jay doesn't know. And what
Jay does is he knows, but he's not going to
reveal his sources. He doesn't want to sour relationships, and
so he oftentimes hands them off to other people who
work at Fox, or he insinuates sometimes things and every
once in a while he gives you a gem and
he's so good at it that for what feels like

(47:24):
twenty years, I think it's twenty years the NFL on Fox,
he's been the guy because he's E. F. Hutton when
he talks people. Listen. This from Jay Glazier's mailbag. Jay,
give us some bold predictions about the NFL offseason. Give
us a free agent signing trade or another bold prediction.
Thanks Robert P. I predict Oldell Beckham Jr. Gets treated

(47:47):
this offseason. I think that's bold enough by Jay Glazer.
That's not a rumor, that's a prediction from E. F. Hutton, Right,
he just volunteer, heard it, served it up. And I
told you last year this time I didn't understand the

(48:08):
Giants stance on Odell Beckham Jr. Now, last year this
time actually was shortly before he got caught in a
room or there's the video of him in a room
with a girl look like cocaine. And then you know,
they talked tough and talked about trading him, and you know,
talked about how he represented the Giants and YadA, YadA, YadA.
Then three months after the NFL Draft, he apparently on
good behavior. They're like, wow, he's been a really good

(48:30):
teammate at O T A. S. We're gonna give him
a huge contract. And they were rewarded with the same
type of uneven play, were rewarded with the guy who
went put on the hands team chose a business decision
instead of securing a win and an on side kick.

(48:50):
Odell Beckham Jr. Is everything you think. He is incredibly, immensely,
remarkably talented, but much more concerned with the image of
Odell Beckham Jr. Than he is with winning football games.
And when you look at the Patriots, who won without
anyone who could even make the Giants outside the numbers right,

(49:13):
you understand why this is reasonable. Remember, his new contract
doesn't take effect till this year, so it allows them
to get out from under that contract, which is going
to be an albatross. And it admits that they made
a mistake and given it to him. And it's a
mistake that somebody else might be willing to make. But
do I believe that this is just something that Jake

(49:35):
Glazer flippantly said, No, I do not, because when Jay
Glazers talks people listen, people listen, and I will I
will tell you like, am I surprised by it? Yea, yeah,
Because guys so oftentimes they won't admit mistakes, right, that's

(49:55):
the that's the guys one oh one. We don't admit mistakes.
We don't say they were lost. We just took a
different route. Especially when this is Dave Gentleman's baby, this
is his contract that he offered up, that they signed.
But Jay Glazer is as he's just as tied in
as Adam Schefter is. He just doesn't choose to break

(50:15):
every story because he'll break big stories, huge ones, and
allows him to keep the relationships he has instead of
being a guy who's constantly onto It allows him to
have a life, have a gym, allows him to, you know,
to to train some of these guys. He's not gonna
not gonna violate that trust. But when he's got a

(50:37):
big one, when he's got a glaze bomb like that,
he just happens to pull it into him, put it
into a mail bag column. It feels like we know
how this ends. Ryan Music, when E. F. Hutton talks,
people listen, Honeycombs, Big no no, no, you know you

(51:00):
gotta go yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not it's not small. No, no, no,
there you go. Honeycomb has got a big, big taste,
a big big taste for a big big bite. Honey
comes a big, big bite. And then what do you say, Hey,
Mikey like it. Mikey does like it. That's pretty good.
You're supposed say yeah, But then Mikey does like it.
Mikey likes it? What what serial was that for? That
would be life? There you go, the power of commercials,

(51:25):
the power of commercial the power of taglines. My prediction
is next year we'll see better commercials, but we'll also
see more. We'll see somebody go back to Jingles that
We'll go back to Jingles absolutely. Jason McIntyre joins the
show up coming next. Nobody loves rumors more than Jason McIntyre.
Sum He makes up many he talks to people about.

(51:45):
I'm messing j Max also good. I think co host
with me the Dan Patrick Show if he wakes up
early tomorrow morning. Should the Giants move on from Beckham Jr?
Should the Lakers make a coaching change. We'll talk rumors
innuendo next, but first everyone knows Untucket shirts. How Utucket
replaced that sloppy smock look of an untucked dress shirt

(52:07):
with shirts that are actually designed to be worn untucked.
A lot of people think that Untucket shirts fits so
well they must be made for bodies that came out
of a magazine. That's untrue. Untucketed shirts fits so perfectly

thinner guys, wider guys, even long torso guy. The Untucket

You also see him on Fox Sports one Television. He's
the one and only j Mac. Jason McIntyre also has
his own show weekends one it's called the Big Lead
on Fox Sports Radio. Let me start with the news
of the day. What's your reaction to Joe Flacco is
now a Denver Bronco. Yeah. My first thought was, why
didn't Elway just do the opposite, tear it down and

(54:15):
rebuild and start over, because this team is closer to
the basement in the a f C West than they
are contending. I know that quote unquote for a playoffs
PO thought a lot with that was smoking. You know
that they got some lucky wins and they were there
with case keenom. But I don't think a thirty four
year old, immobile Joe Flacco is going to be the answer.

(54:37):
I think there's a bad decision. I would only I
would only tell you this that their last to the
last three Super Bowls were both thirty four plus year
old quarterbacks, one name John l A who won two
and he was not at his peak, and the other
was Paid Manning, who was a shell of himself. When
you want a Super Bowl? Are you being serious right now? Yes? Yeah,

(55:00):
actually I actually do what what what what were there
other options? What were there other options? Tear it down? Honestly,
I think you just trade Von Miller, try to get
as many pics as you can. I would make a
run at a stop gap quarterback or just continue to
pay case Keenum. I don't know if you saw the
financial breakdown, but between Blacko's awful deal and see them

(55:24):
who probably end up cutting, you're gonna have so much
money tied into two bad quarterbacks. They're not going to
be able to click the wide receiver situation order the
horrible decense. This team is not a Joe Flack all
away from being a playoff seat. Well, you just you
just you just said you you just said, you just said,
get a stop gap. What do you think somebody who's

(55:45):
gonna get your five way and even and get you
to the next quarterback and draft Drew Lock or somebody
in the first round. Okay, what's he's the best stop
gap that that's available. You're not gonna have using platos
that wouldn't Bridgewater game work them? No, Teddy Bridge. First
of all, Teddy Bridgewater, you don't know if he can
be healthy. Second of all, Teddy Bridgewater. Um, first thing

(56:08):
is you don't know if he's healthy. There's a reason
Minnesota moved on. There's a reason that that the Jets
dealt him for a high pick, and he's going to
be out there again. And Teddy Bridgewater has never at
his career, even in his best year, performed as well
as Flacco has in his worst year. Joe Flacco is
a better quarterback than Teddy Bridgewater, night and day. Yes, yes,

(56:28):
I think it's I mean Flacco has had the injuries
this year, and you know, uh, there's a reason Bridgewater
is available. There's a reason Flacco is available. He got
overtaken by a quarterback who's one dimensional and got exposed
in the playoffs. Like you know, I like playoff Flacco
in the idea that he had a couple of magical runs. Doug.
He's been an average to below average quarterback for about

(56:50):
five years now. Oh look, I I agree with you
that he's average, but I think you've mentioned stop gap.
That's what he is. Guys freak out because they don't
because you're like, well, he's average. I know he's average
or even below average. That's fine. At least you know
what you're getting as opposed at what cost it's gonna be.
Like a fourth round contract is massive, like Ryan, No, no, no,

(57:10):
his contract is contract is it's it's gonna be reworked
quite obviously, because this is really the last year of that.
There was the last year the real money of the deal.
So whatever his money is, that's all phony money. Right,
there's the reason he was gonna be He was gonna
be cut if he wasn't traded, and so they'll be traded.
All right. I've been on the internet for a few hours.
Here are people really saying that this was a good

(57:33):
move by John Elway? I know, of course or not,
but that's because the Internet hates That's because the Internet hates,
uh hates well everyone, but especially I sure he's not good, dog,
I didn't. I don't think he's great. I think he's fine.
I think he's he's average Joe, And I think, you know,
considering the quarterback play they've had, at least they know

(57:53):
what they're getting, even if what they're getting is not
elite level quarterback play. Let's let's get to Jay Glazer.
I I compare him to E. F. Hutton, which you're
actually old enough. You're older than you look. Uh you are.
When I say when when you have Haddon talks, do
do you know the tagline? I mean, I know the
name is this a financial dude. Financial services there. Yeah,

(58:18):
it was financial services company. When you have headon talks,
people listen, that's what they used to say. Ah, yes, okay,
got it. Okay. And so when Jake Glazer, just Jay
Glazer just happens to put in there that, Hey, my
bold prediction is Odell Beckham Jr. Gets moved? What do
you think? Yeah? I immediately texted Blazer, Hey, is this

(58:38):
something we should post on the Big League? Uh? And
he see to think it's fifty fifty. I wouldn't be shocked.
I've been on the trade O'Dell thing for two years now.
You know you know how bad this team has been
since the boat trip. I mean, Odell Beckham is living
off borrowed time in those first couple of magical years
where he put up monster numbers, but that's been hurt.
He's a nuisance in the locker. M I know his

(59:00):
teammates love him, but ownership coaches, I don't think they
need this guy. Like I'm telling you, man, the Antonio
Brown's Odell Beckham's they put up their numbers and celebrate,
they don't win. Jock squat Uh just a hard pass
for me on Odell Beckham war Antonio Brown, No, thanks, Okay.
So let's get to the Kyler Murray thing where now
Cliff Kingsbury has been put kind of on the hot

(59:22):
seat because back when he was at at Texas Tech,
they're getting ready to play Oklahoma. He said, I'll take
a number one overall. Kyler Murray is the same agent
as Cliff Kingsbury. And then today at a press conference,
he said, Josh Rosen is our guy. What do you
think happens with Kyler Mury the dreaded vote of confidence? Doun?
I mean you've been around you know that. Uh. It

(59:43):
means nothing that Kingsbury's defending him right now. I I
like the idea of Kyler Murray possibly going one. Listen,
I'm the first to tell you I was so wrong
about Patrick Mahomes coming out of the air raid in
the Big twelve and the kind of quarterback he could
become in the NFL. The truth of them matter is
the NFL is changing so rapidly, uh that I'm on

(01:00:04):
board with Murray going one. And if I am Steve
Kim in the in the Cardinals front office, I get
Belichick on the horn. Eight. What do you want for
Josh Rosen, give me some players, give me a bunch
of picks, and I move on. Assuming Kingsbury is in
need or once Kyler Murray, I think that would be
a fun fit. I'll there right now. These Cardinals have

(01:00:24):
not been exciting for a few years. I think, uh
since Palmer took him to the a f C title game.
Kyler Murray is gonna be musty TV in the NFL.
This guy, uh is one of the greatest athletes. Uh.
You know, both Jackson and Dion Sanders were not first
round draft picks uh in both baseball and football, but
Kyler Murray is gonna be the first. This guy is
a freak. I am just so excited to watch it. Um. Yeah,

(01:00:48):
I think it's a great idea. I think I think
I think it's I think it's amazing. I think it's
a disaster way to happen, absolute abject, abject disaster. I'll
tell you why he was only taken in the first
round because because of the thought that that could get
him from playing football. That's really they overdrafted him, and
he's gonna be overdrafted in football because there's not a

(01:01:10):
great list of pro quarterbacks. I mean, look, dude, he's
five ft nine and a half two utter pounds barely.
He's not even as big as me. He's small as thant.
What Baker Mayfield does Its six ft tall. Yeah, there's
there's there's a big difference between six ft tall and
a new era where you don't need to be six

(01:01:33):
They had to They had to be six three, six four.
He's not six ft or five ten or five eleven.
He's a little dude. Look, you're a hater man. Tomorrow
morning is gonna be fun. I can already tell Okay,
wait till we get to the Lakers. Reports out of
the l A Times are that Luke Walton's job is safe.

(01:01:54):
You've already had a pole up or some names up
on your website. Jason mcintiph for The Big Lead joined
us on the Doug Galla Show. Uh names to replace
Luke Walton? Do you think Luke walton job is safe?
I think Godly was maybe the sixth name on there.
I mean, seriously, like tylu some of the guys Jason
kids like, come on, it sounds like, uh, they're going

(01:02:17):
to protect Luke Walton for the final games here. It
could get ugly. Doug, I know you follow this team closely. Uh,
your buddies on the coaching staff, Like, I watched a
little bit of every Lakers game, and I'm worried Lebron
is gonna kind of get hurt in air quotes here
and mail it in because it's a game to his
legacy if he can't overtake the Sacramento freaking Kings and

(01:02:40):
get into the playoffs. Okay, this is bad, um. This
team was rolling on Christmas, and yes, the injuries crimpled them. Rondo,
Lebron Alonzo. I mean that's just three point guards ATENTI.
So we're going down on a young team. Uh. And
and they've been sputtering ever since. Uh. This team was
in line to be a Western Conference finalists. They were

(01:03:01):
that good. I know the numbers, don't bear it up.
You got wrong. Come on you if you could make
the fun Western Conference finals And now it's falling apart, Doug,
I don't know what's Louke Walton. It's in a good
spot right now, even keeping his job, Like, do you
know what it's going to be like to be final
two months? It's gonna get ugly. It could get ugly,

(01:03:22):
or it could be it could be it could be
an amazing turnaround story. I guess the questions. I do
think they'll make the playoffs. Oh no, it's not. I mean,
like that's the that's the whole secret to this thing
is it wasn't just that Lebron got hurt and then
Kuzma got hurt and got but they got hurt during
the softest part of their schedule that they felt like

(01:03:43):
they could really make up some ground and then and
they and they and they didn't. That that said, I
still think they find a way to make the playoffs.
Question is can they avoid the eight seed so they
don't force to face the uh the Warriors in the
in the first round. Now, I know you're a big
media guy, Doug, I'm to ask you, like, as a
guy who does TV radio, you know you're everywhere, what

(01:04:05):
more jobs than I have? Like Lebron either missing the
playoffs are getting bounced in the first round is bad
for everybody. TV executives are going to be freaking out.
Content people, your producer of this show, like, no, Lebron
is not good news for everybody. Like this is a
bad thing and people can deny it all they want,

(01:04:25):
and the jokers on Twitter can laugh. This is not
good for everybody. No, I don't think that there's any
doubt about that's not good for everybody. And you're right,
it's not good for his legacy, which will be really
interesting if for for some reason they fall short of
it and they don't make the playoffs, does he shout
it down? I guess my question is we all are
operating under this kind of assumption, like, Hey, all he's
got to do is hit the switch and he's good.

(01:04:48):
He's back, And I just I don't know if he
has that switch still at this age, if he can
still just carry carry a team he does. They just
they don't play defense at all. They don't make free throws.
But the way they were, they they were playing defense.
That's the crazy part about it. They were playing Were

(01:05:08):
they playing defense? Or, as you load alluded to, was
it against kind of an easy issue early season schedule
that's bockloaded for TV purposes. No, their their schedule when
they played the tough teams around the year, they were
top seven and like every defensive metric when they were
fully healthy. Now they made some adjustments. You had Reggie Bullock,
who's an offensive player on a defensive player. It's gonna
hurt them defensively, and Lebron is not good defensively. He's

(01:05:30):
not what he used to be, So I mean, doesn't
play a liquid defense, no embarrassing, and I like he
don't play a liquid d now, Alonzo, it's one of
the better defenders. I'm gonna say that that. I know
we've gone back and forth, Josh Hard, I think it
is a good above average defender on the wing. They
missed him right now, Doug, Yeah, he was awful shooting
the basketb He's just not a starter. He's gotta play

(01:05:50):
against bench players. Jason McIntyre joining us on the Doug
Gottlib Show here on Fox Sports Radio. What do you
make of the Celtics that had some turmoil going into
Philadelphia and getting win last night? Yeah, I was. I
was on Undisputed this morning and I Brusard's head nearly
exploded when I said, listen, I think this team is
better without Kyrie um And I know Kyrie's a closer

(01:06:11):
and needing to win a title, and he's great, but
just if you watch like body language style, uh tone,
everything is a little bit better with Kyrie off the court.
Nobody's in fear that I'm taking about shot. Kyrie is
gonna coach me up and sun me in the huddle.
And you know after the game, when Kyrie doesn't get

(01:06:32):
the last shot, we see him kind of freaked out.
This is a team he does Eastern Comference Finals Game seven,
no Kyrie last year, but they always get eliminated by
the Milwaukee Bucks. I mean, look, they were up when
they when they when they lost to the Clippers the
other day, they were up twenty three points when he
got hurt. I just again, you know, and the big

(01:06:53):
thing was Gordon Hayward finally looked like he's still got
something in the tank last night. Looked like he does
eight and two with a Kyrie this year. Not bad, right, Well,
that also depends. It depends who you're playing. You're playing, Like, look,
if Terry Rosier was so good he would start elsewhere,
they would trade him to be a starter elsewhere. But
he was not a starter elsewhere. The league has evaluated misseuch. Yeah.

(01:07:14):
I think the argument there is, like, what do you
mean in the NBA, like everybody wins with a superstar. Okay,
Janice hasn't been out of the first round in his career.
You know, Like I just don't know if the likes
of a Lot Deer, Al Horford, Morris, Gordon Hayward, if
all those guys and you added Tatum under confident Jan Brown,

(01:07:35):
do they equal enough to make religion contender? Because right now, no, Kyrie,
are you afraid of the Sixers? Are you afraid of
the Raptors? I mean, are you afraid of the Bucks?
I'm not. I got Brad Stevens. I'm good. Doug out
let the show here on Fox Sport Traier. That's the
voice of Jason McIntyre. J Maclast thing. I saw Zion
in person last night, UM, and I was I was

(01:07:58):
really impressed. Called the game for radio. UM. I don't
think it's close. I think he'll be the number one
overall pick and as long as somebody and I think
NBA teams do, as long as people understand what he
is like. He's a small ball five, he's a starting
power forward, and I actually think the way they used
him as at Duke, where he's not the primary ball

(01:08:19):
handler and he plays off of other people, I think
it will work quite I think his transition the NBA
is going to be a lot smoother than some of
the other young players. UM. I know you have your
big board. Do you have a Zion going number one? Yeah? No,
I've I've moved on ahead of Barrett. I love Barrett.
I think he's going to be a stud. But you're right,
I'm on the Zion trade. I expected there to be

(01:08:39):
a drop off at some point of two pounds. Can
he handle the riggers of a wheel season? Not this
linking in Foster Alina basketball that he played in high school.
But there's a reason the Knicks of seventeen straight and
the Sun are like, get me in there. I want Zion.
The Calvs like this. Dude's gonna be a He's a
game changer. I'm a AIG fan. Um, I think we

(01:09:03):
gets interesting, Doug. Let's say the Knicks get the number
one pick. Are you sure you're trading that? Are you
positive you're gonna giveaway Zion? I don't know that. I'm
giving that up for Antony to chase Anthony Davis on
what maybe your rental, because he's told everybody out here
that he wants to be in l A like I
just if I'm the Knicks, I'm sorry, I can't give

(01:09:25):
up Zion. That's the voice that Jason mctyre founder the
Big Lead fall m on Twitter at Jason R. McIntyre.
Of course you can listen to him tomorrow on the
Dan Patrick Show. Jatt, great stuff. Thanks for joining us, dude.
I can't wait to see you tomorrow. Doug. Alright, let's
get you to Dan buy or find out what else
is going on in the world of sports TB what
he got you have. The big trade in the NFL
today is the Denver Broncos are acquiring quarterback Joe Flacco

(01:09:46):
in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. The deal won't
become official until mid March, but the Ravens are getting
a fourth round pick from Denver in return for Flacco. Now,
it was last year that the Broncos sign case Keenum
to a two year deal. They're through year of that contract.
In the NFL Network says the Broncos will now look
to trade Key and him. If they can't do so,
they will release him with that year left on his contract.

(01:10:08):
University of Florida defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is interviewing with
the Bengals for their defensive coordinating position. Raptors got Fred
Van Fleet's gonna miss about five weeks of action after
having thumb surgery today. This according to the Athletic Well
Nuggets god as Ayah Thomas is said to make his
season debut tonight against the Sacramento Kings. ESPN reports that
Thomas will return from hip surgery eleven months ago to play.

(01:10:29):
The Nuggets are just calling Thomas a game time decision
for tonight's matchup. Celtics still without Kyrie Irving, They've got
the Pistons tonight. Kyrie is not gonna play because of
his knee injury, and Yankee spitcher cc SA Matthea is
expected to announce this weekend that the twenty nineteen season
will be his last. According to the MLB Network, the

the Phillies have a signing while signing of an extension.

Doug Gottlib Show in ten seconds. But first a word

(01:11:11):
from farmers. From a dog accidentally flooding a living room
to a dog taking a joy ride, we've covered it.
Talk to farmers. We know a thing or two because
we've seen a thing or two. We are farmers under
written my farmers truck fire insurance, exchanges and affiliates products
unavailable in every state. So I mentioned Jason McIntyre that
I was. I went to the Duke game. They came

(01:11:32):
from twenty three down the second half to win. Zion
Williamson had twenty seven points and I think like seventeen
rebounds something ridiculous like that, And part of it was
a choke job by Louisville, but an amazing comeback by
Duke and camrad isss who was also likely a top
five pick, HiT's four late threes and helps bring him back.
But Zion was was was amazing. What happens though is

(01:11:55):
and look, I like a lot of these guys, you know,
like Scottie Pippen saying he's the best prospect since Jordan's,
Like Jordan wasn't a great prospect, just Um, no disrespect
to Scottie Pippen, who was a great player and knows
the NBA really well. Obviously I haven't played in it
and now covers it. But you know, it's like I

(01:12:15):
said this about when Bob Knight first came to work
with us at the ESPN. I remember he said Joe
Alexander was the best college basketball player he'd seen all year.
He wasn't lying, but it was because he was text
stead coach. He hadn't watched everybody play. You know, if
you haven't watched everybody, he's not lying. He's the best
guy you've seen play all year, but that's because you
haven't seen everybody play. Um, there have been great prospects,

(01:12:39):
Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Ben Simmons, Uh, Joel
and Bead obviously who you know. I remember walking into
Kansas Gym to call San Diego State, UM, Kansas Kansas game.
This is you know, and the only year there, and
he was like that guy is a Hall of famer

(01:13:00):
it there. I was like, really, He's like yes, Bill,
Like that's a Hall of Fame basketball player. So there
have been incredible prospects before plenty of them, and I
think he's right up there. But what happens is when
you mentioned Lebron and you mentioned some of these other players,
and his physical dominance is pretty obvious, you start to
think that he must play like Lebron and he's left handed,

(01:13:22):
he plays downhill with basketball like he's not. You know,
there's a tinge of Lebron in terms of just the sheer, size, strength,
and athleticism. There's a little bit of people like to
say Rodney Rogers because he's left handed and he's kind
of thick, country strong. There's a there's a little bit

(01:13:44):
of of Larry Johnson and that he can score and
just ridiculous in the post. Is a little bit undersized guy,
you know you can take pieces of. And there's a
little Draymond Green and that he's kind of he plays
center for them sometimes in power forward and like draym
On Green, he's gonna have to lose weight in the pros.
Like Draymond Green, his his jump shot is gonna need
some work, but it's not terrible. It's not broken. Um.

(01:14:09):
As long as you understand that he's a small ball
five center. He's a power forward, not a wing and
that's uh, those are positions of extreme value in the NBA.
If you have a guy who can guard centers and
guard point guards, that's a ridiculous value. That's why Draymond Green,
who cannot make a shot and frankly isn't as athletic

(01:14:32):
as he used to be because of injuries and probably
carrying all that weight all those years, That's why he's
so valuable. That's why somebody's winning overpaid for him. And
he doesn't have nearly the offensive game scoring wise that
Zion has. Now, he's a better passer and he but
but Zion also has been one of sacrifices ego, and

(01:14:54):
you're not playing through Zion really offensively right now. They're
just now learning how to use him. So I'm all
in on him. If he's used correctly, I think he
can be a star in a specific role. Come up next,
Chris Boss played with Lebron in Miami. What does he
think about what's happening to the Lakers? Which you find out?
It's next. Be sure to catch live editions of the

promo code Doug d o u g all purchases untucked
dot com. Chris Bosh was a guest of Undisputed. The
former NBA All Star. He was talking about his experience

(01:16:20):
playing with Lebron and what might be going on with
l A right now. It's always gonna be pressure being
a coach for the Lakers. But one thing that um,
from my experience that I've seen is they were doing
the same thing with Rick Spolsture when we first got together.
You know, the Lakers are still a family run organization,

(01:16:41):
just like the Miami Heat are. So they're going to
work more. I think work in the system more, Working
your principles, working your fundamentals within the organization is more
important sometimes. So I think Luke Waltoney, I mean he
wants to win. He's a winner. I think he's a
pretty good coach. Um. He just you know, it takes time.

(01:17:01):
This this instant, this instant society that we live in.
People wanting now and you know they're in a position
where they have to you know, develop everybody, and he
has to develop as well as a coach. Yeah, it's
really really hard. You know, everyone wants it to you
put Lebron James on a team and all of a
sudden you win. There is if he's challenging Eric Spoelstra.

(01:17:25):
This is what happened. That's the report of what happened
in Miami. Remember he goes in, He goes to see
pat Riley and says, hey, you ever thought about coming
out and coaching? And Riley said, now never have. You know,
he didn't didn't take debait, and as of now, the
Lakers have not taken the bait. So I think it's
gonna be fascinating to see how Lebron James response, because
you know, he went on his own they're done already

(01:17:47):
while other teams are still playing. He went on his
own kind of hiatus, family vacation for a couple of
days before he has to report to Charlotte for the
All Star weekend. Be really interesting to see, like how
he locks in and their level of engagement with him
during this time off, which is needed for the Lakers
as they gotta get things going in a hurry. Uh.

(01:18:10):
This is Greg Jennings also on Undisputed, and he had
he had this to say about Antonio Brown, who, remember
yesterday posted on social media a goodbye to the Steelers.
When I see a player asking for a trade, it's
more than just what meets the eye. It's beyond just
the surface things of you know, there's conflict or there's

(01:18:33):
something going on within that locker room Leviian Bell sitting
out a full year for going fourteen million dollars and
some change and not playing. Something's going on in Pittsburgh
that is still there that Antonio Brown doesn't want to
deal with anymore. Levian Belle is like, I don't want
to deal with it anymore. They're gonna have to figure

(01:18:55):
it out without Antonio Brown. And then you look at
Juju Smith Schuster and everybody's sold scited about Juju. I
love what I see out of Juju. I think he's
gonna be a great player in this league. But he's
the player that he is right now because of Antonio Brown.
Let's not misunderstand that. Yeah, I feel like he's he's

(01:19:16):
combining two different things. Look, is there is there a
little bit of of the Antonio Brown Levy on Bell.
Sure it does come come down to Levy Lady on
Bell is about money. It's about nothing other than money,
whereas Antonio Brown, who got the money, is owed the
money seems to be about just an ego run amuck,

(01:19:37):
and maybe both of their egos running buck. Maybe that's
the story there. But the idea that Pittsburgh has some
sort of toxicity to it and that's why Levy, like
no Lebian, was offered a long term deal, just wanted
more money. It was simply a dispute over money. There
was nothing else to it. Antonio Brown had no dispute
over money. And maybe that's what led to Levy on
Bell wanted to be, you know, the highest paid at

(01:19:59):
his position. But I don't I don't agree with that
idea that that somehow it's uh somehow, it's a high
level of toxicity. And that's the reason that Levian wanted out,
and that's the reason that Antonio Brown wanted out. We've
heard from enough people that Antonio Brown was fond over

(01:20:23):
and allowed to get away with little things, and those
little things became big things. They didn't keep him in check.
His ego got out of control and even though these
immense talent um he wanted, he had wanted to do
it his way, and his way was not the Steelers way.
And that's what the Fox said, say, yes, right, music,

(01:20:44):
you want to add some to it, Well, yeah, sort
of what you were alluding to there is what Greg
Jennings was saying is that it seems like something maybe
going on with the organization that's leading to these players
being unhappy and no longer wanting to be a part
of the organization. But maybe it's less about some sort
of drama behind the scenes and more about they just

(01:21:06):
sort of let these big personalities run amuck and now
that they're kind of trying to put the reins back
on them and be like, hey, whoa, you know, this
hasn't worked out how we wanted it to. And now
they're like, oh, well, now you're not gonna let me
be me while I'm out of here. You know, it
almost seems like it is what he's talking about. There
is a problem within the organization, but it's not exactly
the point that he's trying to make. I got it,

(01:21:29):
I got it. Yeah. I again, I think there's probably
some of that with with Levyan, but a lot of
it with Levyan is really just what it seems to be,
which is money. That's It's it's just about money, like
so often times, we wanted to be about a million
different things, and it's just about money. That's it. And uh,

(01:21:54):
that's it, and that's all, as they say, And I
I feel like you're right that they have allowed too
many of these things to fester to become a problem.
But I would also tell you that that there's egos
like that in other locker rooms, and the Antonio Brown
thing is unique only in that he's he feels like

(01:22:17):
Odell Beckham Juter. He feels look, Antonio Brown grew up
idolizing Chad Johnson and from the same area of Miami,
and Chad Johnson was a guy that was freak talent
and was in the best situation possible in Cincinnati because
they allowed him to be Chad Johnson and freelance and
just just get open. But when he tried to go elsewhere,
it didn't work elsewhere. And I kind of feel like

(01:22:37):
Antonio Brown's at that same spot. All right, lot still
to come here On the Doug Gottlieb Show, Big News
Today in Denver and in Baltimore, Joe Flacco is no
longer a member of the Ravens, So the Ravens better
than the Broncos worse. I'll give you my thoughts. That's
up coming next in the Doug Gotlip Show. Fox Sports Radio.

(01:23:44):
for whatever reason, whatever reason, Joe Flacco is the type
of guy who makes people just go crazy, right, They
just crazy with their thoughts, with their opinions. They just
they lose their their to lose their mind is what
happens with when you say Joe Flacco, he stinks, he's awful.
What are they doing? And then you look closer and

(01:24:09):
I kind of get it. I kind of get it.
If you don't have not always go for a home run, right,
That's really what it comes down to. This idea of
going for a home run sometimes a single or a
double works. Joe Flacco's name is Joe, the most average

(01:24:33):
name you can think of. It's not good, it's not bad,
It's just is Joe Flaccos. After his second year in
the NFL twenty one touchdowns, twelve interceptions, ten ten, nineteen
and twenty two was the eight and eight year uh
then twenty seven and twelve, fourteen and twelve, twenty and fifteen,

(01:24:56):
eighteen and thirteen, and then twelve and six This year,
twelve touchdown, six interception before getting hurt. He completes just
over six of his past one point seven on his
U on his year, his best year is yards passing.
His worst year, in which he played an entire season,

(01:25:16):
was about thirty six hundred yards passing. Right, he's somewhere
between thirty s and four thousand yards passing. He's average Joe.
And if you're a team that has just had these
wild ups and downs, um, if you had these wild

(01:25:41):
ups and downs at quarterback play, you just need somebody
who's solid, who's stable, who's fine, solid is stable, who's fine?
Look at team stats for defense in the nash Football League,
look at him. Never Broncos are actually really pretty good.

(01:26:01):
They're not great, They're not as good as they should be.
But the pretty good. You know, uh, Broncos are what
twelve against the run? Twelve against the run? Broncos were
nineteen against the past. They're a team that's sat there
and said, you know, we have a lot of things

(01:26:22):
to fix. We need somebody who's just fine at quarterback.
They went out and they got a dog at the
pound or instead of they get basically gotta rescue. You know,
they got a golden Retriever. That's the Joe Flacco is.
He's a Golden Retriever. And I've had golden cheers. My

(01:26:43):
mom has at a bunch of them. The great dogs,
great family dogs. Now they shed, they get hip displaysia,
they can get cancer. Right. Not all of them have
that big, boxy English looks. Sometimes they had the point nose.
But generally you have a dog as a gold rechiever,
you like, it's fine, smart enough. You know, if you
want to hunt, they can kind of they get the

(01:27:04):
worst of them can kind of hunt. The best of
them can actually be good bird dogs. You need a
family dog. They have they're great. They wouldn't hurt a soul,
like are they a guard dog. No, but do you
have a dog in your house? Yes? Are they a
family dog? Yeah? They live forever. No, like they're just
they're fine. And sometimes final do because because when you

(01:27:31):
when you get done swinging for the fences, you're kind
of left sitting there going like, man, this home run
deal we had, we had a home run and then
we swing with with with Payton Manning. They they want
a super Bowl and pay Manning wasn't good when they
when he threw fifty touchdown passes, they lost in the
Super Bowl, and the year before that they lost to
Joe Flacco. And what was the story of the Super Bowl?

(01:27:54):
So the Super Bowl was Tom Brady was just okay,
but they wont because their whole unit defense running the football,
controlling the game. So look, do I think the Broncos
are better than the Chargers? No? Do I think they're
better than the Chiefs? I do not. Do I think
they're better than the Raiders probably now, although the Raiders

(01:28:17):
ultimately will be better in a couple of years if
they do anything smart at all in the NFL draft,
But there wasn't an immediate fix out there for them
at quarterback, and Flacco is eighteen and a half million
dollars on his contract. That's non guaranteed, that's all cash money.
So they can rework that to make it super super manageable.

(01:28:41):
Whereas other people are gonna have to pay their quarterback
upwards of twenty and and you know, upwards of thirty
million dollars. They'll have a veteran quarterback making somewhere in
the fifteen you know, fourteen fifteen million dollar range, maybe
even less if they're smart with it. It gives them
cap flexibility and the ability to build a better team
around him. Does it make them super Bowl champions? Know,

(01:29:04):
but there wasn't a move at quarterback that was going
to make them super Bowl champions. They're not close to
being there. Take a look at what the Broncos are
actually building and it'll kind of start to make sense.
You know, their defense was you know, their defense was okay,

(01:29:29):
It was okay. They were in most games six and ten,
at one point, six and eight, six and seven, actually,
you know they're in games. They have a very good
young running back in Philip Lindsay who rushed for a
thousand yards. They got him back. They have other running
backs that are solid, not making huge money, and you

(01:29:49):
know what wide receiver. They feel like they have a
young kind of burgeoning star as well. Um, and so
you know, I look at they look at the You know,
they got Emmanuel Sanders still and they got Davante Booker,
who's going to continue to improve. Um, they have Courtland Sutton,

(01:30:09):
who they absolutely love. When they drafted last year, he
only caught forty two balls but eighty four targets. They
feel like, hey, we got two really good wide receivers,
we got a running back to running backs that can
catch it out of the backfield. And Booker and Philip lindsay,
we're developing a tight end and we'll be fine at quarterback.

(01:30:30):
My guess is they pre negotiated some sort of salary drop.
And what happens is you think a guy got beat
out and so he somehow has a scarlet letter on him.
Now he's not gonna have the resurgence that Kurt Warner had,
But there's some Kurt Warner to it. Right. You draft
a guy in the first round, he's gonna play. And
Lamar Jackson seemed to win. Now they played against the

(01:30:52):
worst part of their schedule when he won, and he
showed his flaws. Uh, especially in the playoffs. And I
don't know if the Baltimore Ravens got better. I mean,
this is what we all knew the Ravens were ultimately
gonna do. But there's a natural regression that's going to
happen because Lamar Jackson just does not have the bandwidth

(01:31:15):
at this time to be a traditional quarterback. And if
he runs as much as he ran it last year,
he's gonna get hurt. And he doesn't throw up particularly well. So, UM,
I'm with you, I'm no, nobody's with me. I'm all
alone on this island thinking. Do I think they got

(01:31:37):
pronouncedly better? No? But this is much like the Minnesota Vikings.
What were your options? What were your legitimate options to
get a guy who can play quarterback, who's not going
to command top dollar but is good enough. You're not
gonna get him in the draft. All these guys are
gonna be over valued because this is not a great
quarterback draft and and the market is really slim. Where

(01:32:04):
are you going to get that? I don't see it existing.
I actually sit there and look at it and say,
all right, makes some sense. You know, we'll do last
t J Hush Benzada. He joined us. Up coming next,
is Joe Flacco as bad as the perception of Joe
Flacco is? Or does he agree with my take, which

(01:32:25):
is did they get that much better? No? But they
got better. He's better than case Keenum. He's solid, He'll
probably make less money than most starting quarterbacks, and they
can rebuild a team around him. We'll discuss next. Be

(01:33:27):
t Jelishman's I was a Pro Bowl wide receiver. He
played against Joe Flacco twice a year every year that
Flacco is with the Ravens when he was with the Bengals,
and he joins us on Fox Sports Radio. What do
you think of Joe Flacco when he played against him?
And I actually played with him for one year? Oh
that's right. I forgot about that. My bad, And so

(01:33:49):
I like. I like Joe. Now do I like the trade?
I don't, But I like Joe Flacco. Okay, But what
do you think about him when? What was he like
when you play with him? Is demeanor? You know, he
doesn't get he doesn't get too high, he doesn't get low.
He's always even killed. Um great arms number one, which

(01:34:12):
is well document and everybody knows it better than athletes
than people give him credit for. Um. But when I
like people always really calm, and you know you'll get
something that say, oh man, he doesn't have that that fire,
that that drive that will to be great, but people
show that in different ways. UM. Going to this being
bench for Lamar Jackson had has been for him humbling

(01:34:36):
experience and so there is this chance, you know, he
hasn't he's never the entire time he's been in NFL,
he was a starter and then he's been humble now
And so you're gonna get the best out of Joel
Block or whether that's enough or not remains to be seen,
but you're going to get his best. Doug Olip Show
here on Fox Sports Radio, t Joza is our guests,

(01:34:58):
What if I told you that, by my estimation, the
Broncos are sitting there going like, look, a superstar quarterback
is not out there that they're just they don't exist,
don't love this year's draft. Plus, we're not drafting number
one overall, and if we draft a guy, he's not
gonna be ready to help us win. Joe's contract is
such that it's gonna have to be renegotiated, and we'll

(01:35:19):
have kind of control over that thing. We can get
him for half the price of the elite level quarterbacks,
and we can build a decent team around him, and
until the elite quarterback becomes available, or we draft one
and develop one. This is a better He's just a
got a much better arm and is a much more experienced,
better player than case keenum. Would that make more sense
to you? I mean it makes The thing is is

(01:35:43):
is John Elway has to figure this out man, like
I think people are because he was so great at
the Hall of Fame quarterback He's wont he's everything. In Denver,
she failed the organization as far as finding that quarterback.
The draft pass packed and Lynch doesn't work out. Trevor Simeon,

(01:36:04):
he wasn't terrible starting and eleven as a starter wasn't terrible.
Now and now you get uh Case Keenom and it
didn't work out. You you pretty much hay manhom fell
in the lab. So we were not even gonna count
that pay Man is fell in your lap. John Ell
whining Denver Broncos. And so I believe Flacco is a

(01:36:27):
is an upgrade over Chase Keenom, But is it statistically
is it that much of an upgrade? Flack was played
with great defenses in Baltimore every year of his career,
and so he's going to Denver that with Fangil there,
they should have a similar style defense or they they

(01:36:47):
should be top rated defense. I just for them training
Flac or you know what happens is John elle Wain
in that staff, they watched all these staffs and they're
they're basically saying, Kase keenom here the reason we weren't
winning pretty much, you're the reason. But did they have
a lot of money tied up in their quarterback position
and they're gonna do something? Case Kingdom's gonna get cut
or Doug Gottler's show here on Fox Sports Radio, Jay Glazer,

(01:37:13):
in like his mailbag, said his his bold prediction was
Odell Beckham Jr. Would be traded. Now, Look, Glazer, though
he's an NFL incenter, he doesn't often you know, he
doesn't often say things that that he doesn't know we're
going to happen. And in fairness, this wasn't a Columny
road This wasn't a breaking news. It was just more
of a bold prediction. But feels like he may know

(01:37:35):
something that he's not letting onto. Okay, you know, j
you know every case man, if Jay is if Jay
is putting that out there, oh, Deell Beckham is as
good as gone. And so who is he gonna be
playing for next year? Is the question. And I don't if.
If I'm a team that needs a receiver, I'm doing

(01:37:57):
all I can to get him. Man, Oh, Darrell Beckham,
anybody that knows the wide receiver position. Odell Beckham is
that dude. He's he can play man like. If Ode
Buckham is on the l A rounds and the super
boat rounds, probably win that game. He's that good. Gilmore

(01:38:18):
is not playing Odell Beckham and the man the whole
game and thinking he's gonna hold on the Beckham that
that's not gonna happen. And so if Jay has put
that out there, oh, Dell Beckham is good. It's gone.
It's just a matter of time now. In my opinion,
what do you think of Antonio Brown's post yesterday sayingodbye
to Pittsburgh. It's unfortunate man, because he it's gonna hurt

(01:38:40):
both It's gonna hurt the Steelers not having him, and
it's gonna hurt him not being there. In both sides. Obviously,
the Steelers will be better off because I mean their organizations,
they'll move on. In both sides, they need to find
a way to make the work for him. I think
he's to the point of it's no retirement. I don't
want to be back. Um. I think he gave it

(01:39:01):
some time to see if Spencers could be mended, if
they would reach out or Tom would reach out or
Roblin's Burger would reach out and try to mend these
spences and trying to right your wrong so to speak.
They didn't do that. I put the onus on them
because Roblin's Burger you came out and called him out. Now,
you you gotta do some kissing up. You gotta make
this right. He gave him time to do it. I
believe they didn't. So he's letting him know. I don't

(01:39:23):
want to be here. It's shot. Move now makes something happen. Yeah,
But but couldn't you take the opposite and say, look, look,
Tomlin has has offered up that you know when he's
going to call, we're willing to talk. Doesn't he doesn't
know his head coach a phone call, if he doesn't
know what his quarterback and phone if he doesn't know
a quarterbackers phone call, Lesia's head coach. Now, yeah, but
it's we don't obviously, we don't know what's going on

(01:39:44):
behind the scenes, um, Tomlin. If Antonio Brown is gone,
it gives them his voice back, so to speak, in
a lock to him, he can kind of fletch his
muscle again because that leby On is gone, Antonio Brown
is gone. All the noisy guys so to speak that
the media wants to portray you. They're noisy, their distractions,

(01:40:05):
They're out the locker room. Everybody else now has to
fall in line. Toma will He's not gonna let this
get out of control. It doesn't matter which player comes in,
what you do, who you are. She's not gonna go
through this again. And so if you get rid of
Antonio Brown, obviously lebian Bella is gonna be gone. Now
tom To kind of regains control of that locker room,
and you can try to make sure that this never

(01:40:28):
has to get happens again because those guys are gone,
and everybody else will fall in line. We look at
Antonio Brown, say, he's thirty years old, and I think
some people think thirty years old wide receivers like thirty
years old running back. But but that's not always the case.
You've been a thirty year old wide receiver. Do you
think Antonio Brown is going to be different? And and

(01:40:49):
started to see the a little bit, you know, slow
down a little bit once Steve Smith not no, like
the rules are completely different, number one and not not
even in the playing rules. The rules of how you
can practice, Doug, when I played first day of training
camp to practically, second day of training camp to practices,

(01:41:10):
third day of training camp to practices and go go
look at see how training camp is. Now they don't
have double days anymore. Like you get off the bed
the third or fourth day, you can't even walk and
you gotta go run. Like literally getting out of the
bed trying to walk feels like you went in like
fifty car reps and you have to go run and practice.
Your body isn't beat You don't get beat up like

(01:41:31):
that anymore during a week during the season. You can
only practice one day during the week with paths on.
Everything is about taking care of the player. Now, Dude,
he's gonna playtilast thirty five at a high level. So
you're gonna get four to five really good years, maybe six,
just because of the rules and how they're taking care
of the player, their player conscious. Now health and safety

(01:41:52):
is a big issue. He has a lot of years left.
Doug out in shoe. You're on Fox Sports Trader, that's
the voice of t J. Who's Manzata, Who's uh? Who's
joining us on the Doug Gotlip Show? Kyler Murray yesterday
said he's gonna be a football player. He's a five
nine and a half quarterback who does have a big
time arm and and obviously is that he's been described

(01:42:14):
to me from GM as Doug Flute with Mike Vick speed,
but he's he is Doug Flute's size. How much different?
You know? You played with two mountains, right with Carson Palmer,
huge mountain of a guy, good athlete with a great arm.
And he played with Joe Flacco, huge mountain of a
guy that's a better athlete than people think. How different
is it to play with the quarterback who's only five

(01:42:36):
ft nine. It's gonna be different, and it's funny. The
only thing I can think of is my quarterback in college,
Johnthan Smith, who's not a head coach. Story in the space.
He was five foot nine and he didn't have obviously
Tyler Murray's athleticism or armed But the difference is, and
I remember going back, you don't really see the ball
come out. You just kind of find the ball through windows.

(01:42:59):
And so you gotta have guys that have really good eyes.
Good eyes means we have good hands because they're gonna
pick up the ball later than usual. Because you really
don't see it come out, You just see it through
the window. But he's had Baker Mayfield was a starter
for three years, Chinler Murray started for one and that
one year was better than any year Baker Mayfield had.

(01:43:19):
And Baker Mayfield knew that offense inside out. You chanter
that offense around him, and you keep him outside the pocket,
you get him on the move. I spent him to
pretty much play pretty well. Like it's it's hard for
me to envisition him selling. Even if he's the middle
of the pack quarterback, he's gonna he's gonna be pretty
damn good, just just because of that arm, his athleticism.

(01:43:43):
He's understood. He's been short his whole life. He's always
had to find windows to throw through. This is nothing
that's gonna be any different. It's NFL. It's better players.
But he's been dealing with this on his his whole life.
He's found a way thus far, and I think he
will continue to find a way. How come there having
been other guys like him? How many they number one

(01:44:03):
guys are that hype? They're probably told to switch positions
early on. Um. How many quarterbacks under five eleven have
we seen. We've never seen it before, at least not
with this type of challenge because they're being forces with
Julian Edelman was a quarterback in college and they didn't

(01:44:24):
think she was good enough to play because he didn't
have the natural packing about the thing what Tyler Murray
is he has great athleticism, but he'll sit in the
pocket and throw the ball. The guys that have great athleticism,
they want to use their legs and then throw the ball.
He'll sit in the pocket and throw it and then
use his legs. There's a big difference, and that's why

(01:44:45):
you see you don't see the guys this side with
that type of passing ability because they use their legs
more time than they use their army. The one guy
we haven't talked about today that was affected today is
Lamar Jackson. Right there, they're all in on Lamar Jackson
long term to Lamar Jackson work in Baltimore. It all
that that's going to boil down the one person, and

(01:45:06):
the one person is Lamar Jackson. If he's willing to
put the work in and mentally sharpen his eyes and
that's what people he needs to seed things up. Mentally,
he needs to see things faster. He needs to be
an anticipatory forward anticipate and what the deepense is gonna
do so he can get the ball out a little sooner.
And that all boils down the one guy, and that's

(01:45:27):
Lamar Jackson. If he's willing to put the work in
physically and mentally challenge himself to be that guy, then
you'll you'll fit. And if he's reading the press clippings
and filling himself and it's not gonna put that type
of work in, then he's not going to grow and
develop as a player. Lamar Jackson pretty much hold his
own face in his hands, and it's a matter of
the work he's willing to put in to see if

(01:45:49):
he can really be that franchise type quarterback. Yeah, it's
to be interesting because one thing that guys generally don't
improve on, though, is their accuracy, right like, And he's
just he has these spots of an act you're see
which are kind of which are to me are alarming.
Yet yes, he has to learn to have quicker eyes
and to read defenses better and to be able to
be more of a traditional quarterback all of those and

(01:46:09):
you can't run it as much as he ran it,
but when he throws it, he just has these these
throws he's had in college. He had this year where
he just crazy and accurate for a guy who throws
a good ball. It doesn't seem it seemingly makes sense.
Maybe there's something mechanically that can be fixed a lot
of it. When you know when you are inaccurate, it
starts from the feet up. He can he can fix that.

(01:46:32):
But again, are you willing to put the work in?
And you I'm hard. I find it hard to believe
that he's not because you don't get You don't get
to this level without being a worker, not wolling to
put the work in. But this is the NFL. You you,
it's every day, it's six As a quarterback, he should
be working mentally three or four hours a day, physically

(01:46:53):
to three hours a day and this is every day.
This is every day. There's no vacation time. He shouldn't
go into vacation for his first four or five years
in the league. Man, let's get this down every single day.
Is he willing to make that fact about Tom Brady?
There's ultimate thing is he's so disciplined in his work
at this we all act like we are. What are

(01:47:14):
you willing to do it day in and day out
when nobody's watching. If he's willing to do that, we'll
see lamproved me great stuff for t J. T J.
Hushman's out to join us in the Doug Gotta Show.
I really appreciate you being our guests. Doug, I appreciate you, brother.
Take care of man. All right, that's t J. Heshman's
out a Pro Bowl wide receiver. Our special guests here
in the Doug Gotlie Show. Let's get you to Dan
buy or find out what else is going on? Dan?

(01:47:34):
When you got Doug A bunch going on in the
National Football League, you guys were talking about Joe Flacco
being dealt to the Denver Broncos. Baltimore will get a
fourth round pick when the deal becomes official in mid March.
Case Keenum is gonna have to find work elsewhere. NFL
Network says the Broncos are expecting to trade the veteran
quarterback or they will release him. The Jaguars him saying
kickering Josh Lambo to a four year contract extension with

(01:47:56):
the University of Florida. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is interviewing
with the Bengals for the same position. A bunch of
news from the NBA Free Agent Center and his Canner
is headed to the Portland Trail Blazers, while the Athletics
says Raptors guard Fred Van Vleet had thumb surgery and
it's gonna miss five weeks of action. Speaking of the Raptors,
forward Kawhi Leonard out tonight against the Wizards because of
a sore need, while Denver is expected to get Isaiah

(01:48:19):
Thomas back for the first time. He'll make his season
debut against the Kings tonight, returning from hip surgery eleven
months ago. The Boston Celtics will be without Kyrie Irving
for tonight's came against the Pistons because of his knee injury.
Also not Terry Rosier tonight for the Celtics to want
to clarify the Isaiah Thomas story. Courtesy of ESPN, as
the Nuggets are listing Thomas as a game time decision.

(01:48:39):
Some news from Baseball Phillies gave Picture Aaron no Law
for your extension with forty five million dollars will Picture
Jake Arietta of the Phillies suffered a meniscus injury weightlifting
this soft season. It required surgery, but manager Gabe Kepler
says that Arietta should be ready for opening day. Will
return to the Doug Gottlib Show in ten seconds, but
first a work for farmers. From a dog accidentally flooding

(01:49:01):
a living room to a dog taking a joy ride.
We've covered it, talked to farmers. We know a thing
or two because we've seen a thing or two. We
are farmers. Under writ my farmer's fire insurance exchange. Then
affiliates product unavailable in every state. M m m m m.
Thanks so much, dan Uh. This is Lebron James last

(01:49:25):
night after his team lost to the Atlanta Hawks. You
have consistent play from um all fases in a game,
you know, offensively and defensively, and you know where you
jacked up a lot of our coverage is to start
a game, then a third quarter we jacked up a
lot of our coverages again, so it was always playing
uphill like we've been known as late. So it's gonna
be a lot better. Yeah, And then he walked out

(01:49:48):
of the locker room with a couple of wine bottles
in hand, going on a vacation. Look, I'm willing to
believe that Lebron can fix it, that this team can
get it going. Uh, They've shown the ability to con
pete at the top of the NBA when they're healthy,
when they're right, and you would think that they couldn't
be that far away from being fully healthy. But God,

(01:50:10):
is that not a good look? Right? Like, you beat
the Celtics on kind of a miracle, then you get
whooped by the Sixers. All right, you got the Hawks,
You'll stop the Hawks. And this is something that I
you know, frankly, I saw last night. I got a
chance to see Zian Williamson and Duke. And look, Duke's
not perfect. Duke's not perfect. They have three guys that

(01:50:32):
can score on their entire roster. They're super, super young.
But the reason they were down twenty three wasn't cause
Louisville's great because they're Duke. Everybody's biggest game. And one
of the things I told you guys about that the
Lakers have to mentally kind of prepare for is we
can make fun of Atlanta's ability to draw fans as

(01:50:54):
much as we want. They They've always had a tough
time drawing. You know, they don't have a tough time
when Lebron comes to town. Indie hasn't drawn all that well.
Matter of fact, even the even the night when when
Indie blew them out when everybody, you know, before the
trade deadline. One of the reasons Rondo was sitting next

(01:51:15):
to the coaches instead of next to Lebron was because
the Indie hadn't sold the courtside seats for the Lakers
and Lebron to come to town. But they still had
more people than they usually having their chanting things at
the players. The point is you're going to get every
fan's best shot, every player's best shot, and they weren't
ready to play. They uh, you know, they were the

(01:51:40):
what was the what was the boxer's name? Ramos. You
don't know this because you actually seen movies as opposed
actually you've seen all of pulp fiction as opposed to
buyer who only watched the first was a half hour hour.
I saw it all. I just saw it in three
segments over three days. That's what I saw. A movie,
A movie which is cut to be watched in you know,

(01:52:02):
in chronological but it's not in chronological order, right. You
watched it out of the normal order and right, So
you that had to be confusing? Did you like it
at the end of the day, I just I probably
needed to watch it altogether, but I thought it was okay.
It just it didn't I just kind of wondered what
the point of it all was, Like the ending of

(01:52:23):
it was just like, all right, that's the end. So
that's all what the point of it was. Yeah, Like
I I thought that there would be something like and
I don't want to ruin it for anybody who hasn't
seen it, but you know, we find the movie came out,
I don't think we need ke I understand. I don't
think we need a spoiler. The point is is the

(01:52:47):
the ending of the movie isn't actually the end of
the story. That's the whole point. Yeah, And so that's
why it was a bit confusing. Usually things are, you know,
wrapped up in a nice little bow, and this ending
happened like I don't know what two thirds of the
way like of how things actually ended. That was. That
was what was confusing. Oh he's dead, No he's not,

(01:53:09):
he's back. Um, okay, Ramos, do you remember the boxer's
name who who Butch fought in the ring. I think
it was like Floyd something. I think it was too
I can't remember what his name was. But do you
remember why Floyd got Butch was supposed to take a

(01:53:29):
dive and he didn't take a dive. Remember, do you
remember what? What? What? What? Butch said when he was
talking about the fight that he didn't even lace up
his gloves right now, like if he sat there. He's like, look,
this guy is not even gonna lace up his gloves,
and I'm supposed to take a dive for him. That's
what the That's what the Hawks had to think last night,
Like both teams were it was like six a half,

(01:53:51):
like Lakers are offering no, no, we're not gonna playing defense,
and we fine, we find eventually they're gonna take a dive.
They're supposed to lose. And then it was like the
Hawk didn't get the memo. They're like, we're not supposed
to lose every game. We can win this one. This
one's fun. They refused to take the dive that they
were supposed to absolutely refused. So I think, uh, if

(01:54:20):
they don't make the playoffs, if this ends in a
disastrous season and the coach getting fired, like I understand
that Luke Walton that management everybody should absorb part of
the blame, but so should Lebron James said, oh yeah.
By the way, when a groin injury keeps you out
seventeen eighteen games, if that's not a sign of being
in your mid thirties, nothing is. It's not just that

(01:54:42):
you get hurt more often. It's that injuries linger a
lot more. That's the reality of it, the absolute reality
of age. He's not as explosive. Injuries last longer, he
doesn't recuperate and bounce back. I mean, it's a young
man's game. So I'm I don't know about you, guys.
I'm fascinating to see what the Lakers do out of

(01:55:04):
the break, Absolutely positively fascinated. Where we're Antonio Brown play
next season? I'll tell you next. Be sure to catch

balloon landing on a car to a load of concrete

Doug Got Leave show, Fox Sports Radio Valentine's Day. What
a gift you getting for the one you love? Save

(01:55:50):
one of dollars and a half carried toad away diamond
Heart Pennant. Now just to cube. Whose boss this Valentine's
Day at Hellsberg Diamonds. Let's get to the press, the press.
Do do do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do
do damn buyer. What you got my friends? A bunch
of stuff today? Of course the big news he talked

(01:56:11):
about it throughout the show, Joe Flacco leaving Baltimore, the
Broncos acquiring the quarterback from the Ravens in a trade
for a fourth round pick. Deal can't become official until
March thirteenth. NFL Network says the Broncos. Now we'll try
to trade case Keenum. If they can't do that, they
are going to release Steve vetteran QB. Wow. I mean
how world comes at you fast, right, You're in the

(01:56:33):
NFC Championship game, then you sign a big free agency deal,
and now they got ready to you that that's what
they think of. He doesn't have the arm. He just
doesn't like case Keenum is a six years in college
football record setting the same offense, by the way, with
Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield. He just doesn't have the arm.
He does doesn't You're not a starter's backup, and I

(01:56:55):
don't blame them for one to move on. He's a
good dude, hard worker, and he'll be somebody's back up again.
The Arizona Cardinals or the odds on favorite when it
comes to where Antonio Brown will play Week one of
the twenty nineteen season according to bet Online, Cardinals and
nine to two favorite, followed by the Packers and Niners
at five to one, with the Dolphins at eleven to two.
I don't know how it would work with the Packers

(01:57:17):
and their salary cap um. I guess I get it
with the with the Cardinals, but they have Christian Kirk
and they have Larry Fitzgerald. They need into the wide receiver,
like they need an offensive line, they need an offensive line. Well,
you know I argued this last night, is that if
you're all in on Cliff Kingsbury, which they apparently are

(01:57:38):
because they've made him their head coach, I mean, why
not swing a deal for him and I you've got
him healthy, Christian Kirk, Glory Fitzgerald. You're right about the
offensive line part. But to give them weapons, throw it
around the lot and see what they can do. Yeah,
I guess, But I mean, can you do it without
an offensive line. It's true to give them weapons like

(01:58:02):
that's great, but they had weapons this year like David
Johnson's a weapon, Christian Kirk's a weapon, Lear FitzGeralds a weapon.
Josh Rosen had no time, no time to throw. So
I don't I don't get it. Don't get it. It's very,
very sensitive. Despite having a lease that expired today, the
Raiders will continue to talk with the Colosseum about a

(01:58:22):
lease for the twenty nineteen season at Oakland Elameda County Coliseum.
According to the NFL Network, seems like more and more
the Raiders are going to be playing there next year.
They basically this is the Raiders and Oakland the Oaken Coliseum.
They're gonna do the War the Roses. Do you guys
remember the movie Bayer has no idea of war the
Roses nothing Ramas. Do you remember War Roses? Loved that movie.

(01:58:44):
Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and the lawyer. The divorced lawyer
was Danny DeVito. Do you remember what they did? They
cut the house in half? They know that well. They
actually put a red line down the middle of the house,
a red line down the middle house. Her side, his side,
and then yes, at one point in time, I believe
I think she had a chainsaw and she chainsaw it

(01:59:07):
a table in half so you can have his half table.
That's how well that worked out. I'm happy as hell.
I'm happy as hell. It's also a brady bunch of episode.
They did that with the boy's bedroom. Oh that's good. Good.
I had the bathroom though, that was the problem. Talk
about it, okay, dog, talk about this? Uh? Dog? Can
you talk about the l A Times report that Luke

(01:59:28):
Walton's job is safe for the rest of the season
despite that loss to the Hawks last night? Can you
talk about John just played a drop of whoever it was,
criticizing a reporter for saying, can you talk about So
that's why I just did it that way l a
time says Luke Walton's job is safe for the rest
of the season. Yeah, I I guess can I talk

(01:59:51):
about That's a lazy way to ask Yes, Yes, that's
what I was doing. Yeah, Yeah, it's a lazy way
to ask a question. It is interesting that the that
the Lakers to this point are gonna let Luke finish
this thing out. So um, I think they should have
come out weeks ago and said that, but any time
there was rumors about about Lebron, otherwise they may be

(02:00:12):
doing him a favor, letting him go enough advil or
leave whatever you want. Well, then the question is, you know,
could he get one of his college job, does Arizona
come open because Sean Miller's uh subpoena? Or could he
get U C l A And are they actually doing
him a disservice if those jobs want to hire him.
Denver Nuggets gard as Aiah Thomas will make his season
debuts tonight against the Sacramento Kings are According to Woads,

(02:00:35):
Thomas said surgery eleven months ago on his injured hip.
Nuggets say he's a game time decision, but we expect
to I t tonight against the King's Um. Yeah. I mean.
The big thing with Isaiah Thomas is remember last time
we saw him, he was the shell of himself and
it's hard to hide him defensively. He's a high volume guy.
Could be a big addition for Denver, but there's a

(02:00:58):
reason guys don't come back from hip injuries. Like there
are some people that believe he'll never be the same again.
Troll Blazers have come to terms out to deal with
free agent center and its Cantor. I like. I like
Annis Cantra. I'm gonna really score off the bench. Doesn't
really guard anybody, but does give you scoring pop and um.
You know, never love that deal. But remember did he

(02:01:19):
sign a deal with Portland that was matched by Oklahoma City.
That was a huge deal. Probably shouldn't let him go
back then that may not have been you know, Nix's problem.
Remember he could have he was back with New York.
He could have maybe have gone elsewhere. A couple of
baseball notes to wrap up, first of all, Red Sox
says Chris Sale said, he'd be open to signing a

(02:01:40):
contract extension in Boston. He's eligible for free agency after
the twenty nineteen season. Says he'd love to keep playing
there and has always had contracts security throughout his career.
I wonder if contract security is an issue from what
we've seen via free agency. So maybe that's why Chris
Sale wouldn't mind signing a deal with the Red Sox. Yeah, yeah, yeah,

(02:02:00):
it makes sense and mean, plus you've had success there.
But it's just such a weird market for Major League
Baseball free agents, right, like they're already reported. Usually you
have your team set now and they're just not Yeah,
sometimes to play with seven players and one just one outfielder. Finally, Doug,
the Milwaukee Brewers are holding a special pre sale for

(02:02:21):
tickets to Wisconsin residents only for the ten games at
Miller Park this year against the Chicago Cubs. Miller Park
sometimes gets tabbed as Wrigley North when the Cubs come
to town, but the Brewers are having a special pre
sale for tickets for Wisconsin residents only. There's gonna be
a lot of Turner's gonna be turncoats there aren't there.
Not only that, but there's just a lot of Cubs

(02:02:42):
fans in Wisconsin anyway, That's what I mean. There's gonna
be people that they come in and have the Brewer
shirt on and then all of a sudden, I'll take
it off to be a Cubs Cub shirt underneath Cubs. Yeah,
Wisconsin residency doesn't necessarily make you a Brewers fan. Trust me,
I grew up in the state a lot of Cubs fans,
so I'm not sure how much this is going to help. Also,
it should be pointed out that that way, if you
grew up in Wisconsin, you're our age. They weren't. They

(02:03:04):
weren't in the same division back then, right they were?
They were, they were in different leagues. I mean one
was American Nationals. See, technically you could have liked them
both if you wanted to. And I get out there
and pressed. That was the press. And the Cubs are
always bad, not as bad as that one year when
the Brewers didn't they lose the first seventeen games in
a row or something to start the year. I remember

(02:03:24):
that I was a Brewer fan back in the day.
