Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Man, I truly wish you.
I hope you're having a great day. A great day.
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. It's brought to
you by Farmers. We've seen almost everything. Is gonna have
to cover almost anything. Hey, Ramos, Ramos, what's the end
(00:54):
of this read? I don't have the and I don't
have the read in front of me. Oh man, this
is funny. Oh it's funny. And it's said all at
the exact same time. Oh uh, that's funny. Um. I
would I'll get I'll get to it. I'll get to
in a second. UM. Last night, Zion Williamson made his
(01:16):
triumphant return. UM. He made his triumphant return to college basketball,
and in doing so, he basically basically said what basically
said what what I thought for a long period time.
Take a listen. Okay, this this show has gone up
(01:37):
to a great start. My fault, Doug got the show
brought to you by Farmers. At Farmers, we've seen almost
everything's going to cover almost anything. When it's game time,
haven't experienced player help you stay ahead of the game,
put their experience in a play at farmers dot com.
Are farmers all right? Let me paraphrase what he said?
Fair enough? Okay, guys, So he basically was like, look,
(01:58):
I appreciate everybody who who's thinking of me and my future,
but I want to play for Duke. I like playing
with these guys. I couldn't leave my boys hanging. That's it,
like that, It's it's literally the perfect answer. You know why.
It's the perfect answer because he's eighteen years old. He
(02:19):
hasn't been scarred by adult stuff yet. He just hasn't.
Like he's a nice kid from a small town and
a small school in South Carolina and he went to Duke.
You're like, wow, that's kind of naive, Like maybe maybe
it's naive. This is why kids are This is why
kids are awesome, Awesome, it is, without any question, the
(02:42):
best part about being a parent. Like, look, I don't um,
I don't. I don't think I have every answer to
parenting because I'm anyone who's been a parent, like man,
you know, I learned something about myself, I learned something
about my child. Had learned something about parenting almost every day.
But I do have three. They seem to be functioning
(03:05):
decently as twin twelve year olds are about to be thirteen,
and a nine year old boys about to be ten.
And there's just things that they say which are so
honest and maybe true. You know. I remember there was
this is going back a couple of years ago, around
the time of the election, there was you know what
ends up happening is that the layers from adults that
(03:27):
gets to kids and you know, like when you talk
about you know, adult stuff within the house, how kids
actually decipher it. It's really really interesting, you know. And
there was talking you know about would would there be
a deportation of people of of a different descent? You know?
And I remember my my son at the time came home,
(03:50):
it's a dead I have friends that have brown skin,
like are they going to get deported? Like? No, But
it's the honesty of a child to say something like that, right,
is not. Obviously, there's nuance to things that that you
have to learn, and there are things about growing up
that that you learned that are great. I'll here, here's one.
This is great. I didn't I don't know if I
(04:10):
told you guys this. So my son is he's a
pretty good baseball players nine years old. And we're driving
home from the game the other night and they won.
He had a big hit and then he closed out
the last two innings and and end up winning the game.
And I said, hey, dude, you're doing a much better
(04:31):
job of when you make it out or strike out,
like you when you're supporting your teammates what you've always done,
which is great. But you're you're you're not as hard
on yourself. I go, that's really a that's a grown
up thing. That's I want you to get mad. I
don't want you to be okay with failing. But you know,
you can't just melt down. He's like, well, can I
tell you something? I said yeah. He said, um, you know,
(04:54):
take me out to the ball game. I said yeah.
He said, you know when they say one, two, three strikes,
you're out. I said, yeah. He said, I thought it
meant if you struck out, you were out for the
whole ballgame. And I was like, no, it's the old
ball game. He goes, oh h. So I'm sitting there
(05:20):
and I was like, wait, so you thought if you
struck out when you were a kid, you're little, you
thought you struck out, you're out for the whole game.
He's like, yes, oh and it There's just something so
pure and honest about it that I loved. Now, look,
I've outed him. He just That's what I felt like
when I was listening to Zigon is parents where the
(05:43):
adults are the ones that screw it up, right, Like,
you know, you go to and you go to a
kid's baseball tournament, and the adults are either yelling at
the kid, or yelling or grumbling about the coach, or
yelling at the official. You know, it happens in basketball,
happens in baseball, it happens in football. It happens and
everything the parents screw it up. The parents want so much.
(06:06):
I mean, that's the story. The story of the week
is a scandal with some many of these rich, you know, elitists,
and sitting there like, hey, they want to buy their
kids way into college so that they can experience maybe
what they experienced, maybe what they did not, but put
them kind of in that special part of society that
that college can frankly put you in. But as we've
(06:28):
seen a lot of times, the kids one don't know
and too don't care enough. They just don't They haven't
earned it, they don't have the work ethic for it,
they don't belong in as as people. They need to.
They need to not be in college or go to
a lower level of college and and earn their way
(06:49):
either to that degree or if they want to, then
figure it out as students and transfer up a level. Fine,
but the parents are the ones that screw it up.
They're so sure they know what their child needs and
want allow their child to be successful. And I get it, like, look,
my my dad did some things along the way. I
stayed back in eighth grade because I was a late
(07:11):
late bloomer. We went to a different high school that
was a better basketball and there are some things that
I could I could sit there and go like, hey,
you know, and honestly, my dad had way too much
as say when I when I originally in both of
the colleges that I went to, and there were some
pluses and some minuses to it. So I'm I'm my
father was just as guilty of this, and like, look,
(07:31):
I'll probably redirect my kid to give him try and
give him the best possible avenue for success. So there
is a you have to give them guidance, but you
also have to let them fail. And so I thought
that Zion Williamson last night when he said afterwards, he's like, listen,
I I appreciate all, you know, everyone's comments, Like, like,
(07:54):
I I appreciate it, but this is what I want
to do, which is exactly what you want any kids
to do, which is listen and then go out and
kind of take coaching and do the best you can,
and you're gonna have to make your own mistakes and
make your own successes. I think what he did spoke
volumes of the human being he is I spoke. I
(08:15):
think it spoke volumes of how we get so screwed
up as people because we think that the only thing
that matters in life is if they bury you and
you have money to your name, right, that's like the
only like somehow success in our country in sports is twofold,
(08:36):
did you make money? Did you win a championship? And
there's so much more to it, all of the other stuff,
you know, it's it's it's like if you Dan Buyers
is that is a great guy to call on for this, right,
I would say, and Dan, for people don't know, he
has a Sunday show and they'll do a Sunday special
(08:58):
selection show with Nick Ball, who's a good friend of mine,
who's a by the broadcaster for Fox Sports, covers college basketball,
and I call i Dan's a perfect example. I'll bet
Dan if you ask him about his best and worst round,
it's not about the final score. It's not about the
final score. It's about I shot a seventy two. But
(09:20):
MEMBORI was on the fourth hole and a duck hooked one,
and then I punched out, and then I had a
great approach shot, and then I was trying to figure
out Like it's so the whole the story is that
that's the fun part to it. Like Zion Williamson is
going to be the number one pick, you know, barring
some sort of catastrophic injury, which should make him the
number two pick, the number one pick in the draft,
(09:41):
and he's gonna make millions of dollars and you'll have
his own signature shoe that I guarantee, like the Duke shoe,
you Kyrie shoe he's wearing last night will be completely unbendable.
But like the story is the better part. The he
comes to Duke, he loses his weight, it gets into shape,
he's still to eighty five. He he's making all these
plays and all these dunks. The shoe comes off, then
(10:03):
he's people are talking about it going back. Then he
comes back out and plays. Do they beat Carolina tonight
with him? After playing without him with the exception of
thirty seconds in two games? And then they go to
the ant like all of that stuff, like that experience,
the highs, the lows, maybe the highs again, maybe they'll
be a low again. Like that's the part that money
cannot buy that. An NBA championship cannot buy that billions
(10:26):
and millions and millions of dollars. Like, okay, people are
gonna make money off him, and he's gonna make money
off them. Okay, this is adult stuff. Zion Williamson saying, like, hey,
I hear all the adult stuff, but you know, I'm
a kid. Who likes to play basketball, and these are
my friends. This is a little bit. I've experienced this
(10:48):
one with my son as well, Like I could take
him and have him play with any baseball or basketball
team anywhere and have him play against higher level competition.
And you know what, sometimes your kids say like, yeah,
I know I could playing the better team, but I
want to play with my friends because they're my friends.
It's not as much fun to play basketball with guys
(11:08):
that aren't your friends. That's professional stuff. This is the
beauty of college sports. In the pros, you can play
for yourself. You play maybe for your team to win
a championship, but it's not playing necessarily with your friends.
You can become friends with those guys, and sometimes you're
lucky enough, you're fortunate enough to become great, longtime friends
(11:29):
with the guys who play. But there's something to the
first time you're away from home, you're living on your
own or living with a buddy, you're going to college.
The only girls around you are all your age. The
only guys around your all your age. These become your
best friends. These are your true formative years. We are
screwing kids up because we are ruining their childhood and
(11:53):
the order their early adulthood because we want them so
bad to make money, because somehow we feel like it's
it's us live being in our own past and those
Zion Willimson is not gonna stay for two or three
or four years because the adults would pick him apart
for doing so. Here's a kid who much like my son,
(12:14):
probably your son, your daughter, just they don't carry all
of the different biases of being older and worrying about
money and bills and whatever. I just want to play
with my boys until they tell us we can't. It's phenomenal.
It's so good. It's so very good. The Doug out
(12:37):
Leaves Show here on Fox Sports Radio. We gotta we

show for you today. Jeff Schwartz gonna join us in

um everything that the Giants are doing. What do he
thinks of what the Browns are doing? But coming up next,
longtime NBA inside of Rick Buker joins the show. What
are people around the NBA saying about Zion? Plus his
(13:00):
report yesterday was about the Lakers considering trading Lebron James.
Was that a was that a legit threat? Was that
an empty threat? Where the Lakers go from here? That's
upcoming next. But first everyone knows Untucket shirts. How Untucket
replaced the sloppy smock look of an untucked dress shirt
with shirts designed to be worn untucked. A lot of
people think that Untucket shirts fits so well they must
(13:21):
be made from bodies that came out of a magazine.
That's untrue. Untucket shirts fit perfectly no matter what the
body type, for taller guys, shorter guys, thinner guys, water guys,
even long torso guys. The Untucket shirt designers have mastered
the proportions that determine how your shirt falls for that
that just right length and neat casual look of all
shapes and sizes of the other brands leave behind. And

Regg Bierker is a longtime NBA stage senior writer for
Bleacher Report. He all says the Buker and Friends podcast,
which is a good one. Kind of have to spend
some time of this year on a Doug Otlip Show
on Fox Sports Radio. So buke. We we read your uh,
your piece yesterday that said Genie Buss was so ticked
at all the leaked rumors regarding trading for Anthony Davis
(15:13):
that she thought about trading Lebron James and let Rich
Paul know about it. Give me some more kind of
background to it. Was it? Was it a real threat?
Was it a fake threat? Like? What? What? What? What? What?
Was it? Well, let's be clear, because it wasn't Genie
that alerted Rich Paul to the fact that that it
(15:37):
was contemplated. I was actually the one who alerted Rich
Paul that it was contemplated, because I didn't know whether
he knew or not, and I assume he didn't by
the way he reacted when I told him, because there
was silence on the other end of the phone, because
(15:58):
I basically told him, I said, look, this is so
bad that the Lakers check to see if Lebron had
a no trade clause in his deal and I understand
that he doesn't. And there was a pause, there was
a silence, and then rich said, well, yeah, but this
is an amateur hour. We got trade kicker. And so
(16:21):
I then found out later that he called Genie and
cleared the air and uh and I was made aware
of that, and I thought it was a smart move
on his part as as an agent. But that's how
it all came down. Ultimately, I believe that it was
a frustration over Genie Buss and the Lakers in general
(16:42):
seeing the reins of their organization taken out of their hands.
They're trying to make a deal to acquire Anthony Davis
and now players on their team or being put out there.
It's that the Lakers are willing to throw anything they
can at the Pelicans. All those names are being put
out there, and they're thinking, what's what's going on? Like
(17:06):
this is not the way we want to do business.
And the assumption at the time and for many people
around the league still is that Rich Paul was the
one that was putting those names, that that he was
leaking those names out there. He denies it. He's denied
it to me. He denied it too Genie and I
don't know where the relationship stands as of now. I
(17:28):
believe that that that they've amended fences to at least
a certain extent, But that's how this whole thing unfolded.
But there's no question that Genie and I don't know
how much it was Magic and Rob as well, but
the Lakers were absolutely that I was. It was described
his arm of Geddon at one point, uh, several weeks ago.
(17:50):
This is before Jeff Van Gundy said anything about trading Lebron.
They were very much at odds Rich Paul and Lebron
James versus the Lakers were not in a good place. Okay,
So here's my here's the question, Um, Trading him is
really hard because like, look right like I I when
(18:11):
when Van Gundy said, it's like, what are you gonna
send him? Right? Like? He didn't want to play for
the Clippers, and I don't know if the Clippers actually
want I mean, the Knicks like those the only ones
otherwise you're not moving your family. It's just it's just
you know, logistics to it. Like and he can just say, well,
I'm not going, And he does have that power. But
if she, if she still trades for Anthony Davis, if
(18:33):
she hires a Lebron friendly coach, then doesn't Rich Paul
still have the power that I mean, this is like
a coup data and she for a for a short
period time, has has put down that coup. But they
can still take over the place. Yeah, well, but here's
your choice, and and and for the reasons that you pointed,
simply trading him to the Clippers. So you trade him
(18:54):
to the Clippers. Now they have the biggest star in town.
You think that that would sit with the Lakers, especially
if you don't know if you can get another Scar.
Being the rebuilding team in l A is not going
to sit well with the Laker fan base. It's not
something they're used to. It's not going they would accept
in and and taking a second class citizen role in
(19:16):
l A. So there's that, But it becomes a matter
of all right, so we don't hand over the keys
to Rich Paul. We don't hand over the keys to
the Lebron James. Now what do we do because that's
kind of what we've done this year or try to
do this year, and we didn't have any success. And oh,
(19:39):
by the way, the clock is ticking on Lebron James,
whether it be his contract or the fact that he's
thirty four turning thirty five. So we've seen it work elsewhere.
The teams didn't like it, the gms didn't like it,
but ultimately resulted in a greater degree of success then
(20:00):
we've had here with the Lakers of late. Maybe that's
what we need to do. Maybe we just need to
go And this was actually suggested to me by by
one of the gms that I talked to, is is
at this point, you just go to Lebron and say, okay,
what do you need and then you go get it
done and you get the band back together. It's why
one of the things one one, uh when GM said
(20:23):
to me that he could see them making a deal
for for Kevin Love, like, get guys that Lebron is
familiar with, Guys that he trusts, Guys that know how
to play off of him, and see if you can
take one more shot and put it all together and
take the Cleveland Cavaliers temple it, bring it to l
(20:43):
A and see if you can squeeze one more championship
or at least championship run out of Lebron before before
it's all said and done. Other than that, it's I mean,
I understand why they as is distasteful as that be
on some levels, why they would go that direction, because
what's your other choice? Uh? I think your other choice
(21:07):
is some sort of hybrid of it which is you
you know about what he likes, you know about what
he needs. You just gotta make better. Like the whole
thing is, you have an inexperienced GM and inexperienced president.
You have no assistant GM, you know, which, so that
there's there's nobody to kind of, hey, let's check over
this this stuff. Um, you know. Then you have an
inexperienced head coach who wasn't hired by the GM or
(21:29):
the president, you know. And then you have these older pieces,
and you have Lebron who, like, I get the idea
of hey, didn't it just work last year? But it
barely worked last year, and he's not the same guy
this year, nor will he be the same guy next year. No, no,
no doubt. But for Lebron to buy in if it's
gonna be a hybrid, then Lebron has to trust the
(21:52):
other side of the equation. From what he's seen to
this point with Magic and rob Oblinka, is there any
real in for him to trust that, Okay, you're not
gonna do everything that I want, but you're gonna do
some I trust at the part that you're not going
to do is still going to be beneficial. I don't
see any reason for him to do that. Even David
(22:15):
Griffin in Cleveland had to sort of prove himself to
Lebron in proposing, Hey, we're gonna at least if if
the story is true, if the anecdote is true where
Griff talked about being able to get a couple of
pieces and and said to and Lebron said, no way,
(22:35):
you can't do that, and then he ultimately I don't
know if it's the Moscoth deal. I can't remember exactly
what it was. But then he then he pulls it
off and Lebron is impressed. I don't know if that
answer is accurate, but that's what has been told. What
is it that you see Magic and Polinka proposing to
to Lebron and then pulling off That would make Lebron say, hey,
(22:58):
I'm I'm with guys who not know how to build
a championship team. And I don't look, it's not even
a you know, criticism of Robin and Magic, but they've
never done it. So what's the belief that they can.
I don't know. Like there's so many missteps along along
the way. Um Kyrie's come out and kind of through Christians,
(23:20):
we had him on yesterday kind of apologize for saying
some things that he shouldn't have said, and the way
in which he's kind of hand himself and admitted to
being uh, sort of moody. Um there is and I've
heard you talk about the idea that a New York
probably not the best plan for the for he and
k D. If he and Katie are going to do
it together. What's the status of the k D Kyrie thing.
(23:45):
I don't know as far as k D Kyrie joining forces,
you know, everything from continuing to measure what's going on
with Golden State, UH and New York. Katie is the
one piece that that I've felt all along is the
most likely to end up in New York. Uh. The
(24:05):
relationship between Katie and Kyrie. I kind of feel as
if there was a little too much made of that.
There's really connecting of dots, it being home for Kyrie,
it's their relationship, etcetera, etcetera. I think too much has
been made of that. What I see with Kyrie is
simply a guy who's trying to figure it out. He's
trying to figure out how to be a leader, He's
(24:26):
trying to figure out how to handle the media. As
the guy on a team that gets as much attention
and and make no mistake, you're also talking about being
in Boston, dealing with the sports media in Boston and
the sports fans in Boston when it comes to basketball,
and the Celtics is a different animal than anything that
(24:48):
he would have experienced in Cleveland. And now you are
the guy without the cover of Lebron And now you
are the guy who has to lead these young guys who,
by the way, a accomplished a tremendous amount without you
the year before. So what I see is a guy
trying to figure it out and having his missteps play
(25:12):
out on the big stage. But do I think that
there's anything malicious or intentional on Kyrie's part. I still
believe in him as a player, as a winning player,
and as a guy who ultimately wants to try to
play the right way. Now we've seen and heard a
lot that doesn't know doesn't speak to that. But I
(25:33):
think it's really what we're seeing are growing pains more
than anything else. What is it? What is the state
of the Golden State Warriors? Well, when does Andrew Bobie
get here? Like, I mean, this is what really strikes
me as amazing with people who say, don't worry, they're fine,
(25:55):
and I know you and you and I dug are
are sort of share the same sentiment here. But they'll
be fine once they get to the playoffs, and DeMarcus
Cousins is going to be a difference maker. And then
I like, okay, so how do you equate everything's fine
and they have nothing to worry about, and they're going
to Australia to go get a guy from two years
(26:17):
ago that they kicked to the curb because they questioned
how physically or mentally tough he was. That's a guy
that they're bringing in hoping that he can help or
fix something about them. And yet everything is okay. Look,
I don't see the team in the in the Western
(26:37):
Conference that I can say definitively is going to knock
them off. But I still stand by they're vulnerable to
almost anybody, because while yes, are they gonna turn the
key and are they going to ramp it up when
they get to the postseason and they can see the
finish line, absolutely, I just don't know once they press
(26:57):
that button what it is going to connect to how
much is left in that tank for them to draw
upon and again with the deterioration of a couple of
very key players on that on that team, I just
don't know that defensively they can rise to what they
(27:18):
need to be to be able to complete another championship run. Yeah,
I'm I'm with you. It just it it's it's held
together by duct tape. And it felt like last year.
Last year they found they got a little lucky with
the Chris Paul injury. Granted, they had their own injury
with the Gudala uh, but they and they were very fortunate.
(27:38):
The East was was not up to snuff, and I'm
not you know that they had and of course the
the j R. Smith meltdown in Game one. History could
be very, very different. But this, this just feels like, man,
this that they are they do not enjoy. They do
not enjoy going to work together every day. Yeah. No,
And there's and there's Kevin Durant in particular, aler Is
(28:01):
feels like a guy who has removed himself a little
bit emotionally. I just watched watching the locker room dynamic
last year versus this year, or the first couple of
years versus this year. Katie's just is a little bit
he's he feels that he looks and feels distant in
(28:23):
that locker room. Now I'm not saying I'm around the
team all the time or at the time that we
get in the locker room is you know, obviously a
litmus for everything, but you can get a vibe, and
the vibe is definitely definitely different and and and some
of it's just human nature. I mean, at some point,
this is why great band, no matter how great they are,
(28:45):
they break up, because when you've been together this long,
under this kind of pressure on the road, dealing with
everything you have to deal with, at some point, you
just get tired of each other and you want to
get away and you want to change. And I can't
help but feel that that's what we're seeing the Warriors
go through right now. Last thing that the thunder are
(29:07):
you know, I know they've hit some hard times here
of late, but kind of a feel good story and
that you know, Paul George decided to stay there and
he's had an incredible season, uh you know, Wrestle Westbrooks,
though his shooting is still suddenly even more erratic, it
seems to have bought into the success of Paul George,
Like that I think that there's a team that's got
a legit shot to to beat Golden State. But this
(29:28):
is the second time Russell's one. It was the kid
touched him on the back and there was the and
he reacted, and then this time, Look, I don't know
how I would react as somebody's you know, yelling stuff
at me. I know I've I haven't always reacted well.
But and then then there's a second Jazz fan that
that is banned. But it's like, look, it's not gonna stop.
(29:50):
It's only the more you engage with fans and the
more you when you drop f bombs towards fans, there's
always gonna be a guy who's going to chirp at you. Yeah,
is there anybody who can get through the russ were like, hey, dude,
if you don't like it, just tell security to escort
a guide. You have that power, or simply don't pay attention.
This feels like we're watching a build up to an
(30:11):
explosion that people are gonna be surprised when it happens. Yeah,
it's a struggle for me to tell somebody else. Obviously,
I've said consistently, and this is for players in general
that they need to be above it. It's easy to say,
it's much harder to do. Russell likes to engage the
(30:32):
fans on both a positive and in these cases not
so positive. Wait, we constantly see him recognizing kids in
the stands who have their who are wearing a Thunder jersey,
or or trying to get his attention, him signing and
taking off his shoes, connecting with them in a variety
of ways, and I just get overall and this is look,
(30:58):
Russ has done this by the way he dressed is
in every way possible. And this isn't this isn't an
exception to who he is. It is a part of
who he is and that I am going to be
me and I am not going to allow outside forces
make me put a lid on who I am, good
(31:21):
or bad. And we can go back and forth all
day long about whether that's the wisest way to go,
but it has consistently been who he is and in
so many ways it is a positive. And in this
case it's there's some trouble that comes along with being that.
But I I just you said, can we get somebody
(31:43):
to change Russ? No, we can't. I think I'm I'm
confident in safe and saying Doug that the only person
who's going to change Russ is Russ If and when
he decides it's not worth it, it's not worth it,
it's not worth it. It's just they aren't as much
as you want, you wanted, you want people to not
(32:04):
be have that that in them. They do. It's just
it's it's not worth them getting your your attention is
the greatest moment of their lives. I will say this.
I will say this, and it's been mentioned and it's
obviously a big part of it, and congrat I mean
kudos to the Utah Jazz Organization because it's not easy
(32:25):
telling your fans, you guys need to cut this racist
crap out. Okay, you're gonna be banned for life. It's
easy for us on the outside to do it. But
when that's your fan base, and that's when you're those
are your paying customers, it is not easy. That they've
taken the stand that they've taken, that the players have
taken the stand that they've taken. That's where this isn't
(32:47):
just heckling. This isn't just trying to get under a
guy's skin. Ryan Hollands mentioned it to me on the podcast.
He said, you know what, people caught a clip of
Ross in that exchange and what was said to Russ.
He goes, that's not the exception. That happens all the
time and social in Salt Lake City, there is a
racial undertone two the heckling that goes on there, and
(33:13):
that makes to me, a guy like Ross taking exception
to that. It's not my place to tell him, hey,
you gotta be above that. That hits no different place.
I agree, and I tweeted as much, which is like, you,
you know, even if the guy in this and and
like even if I gave the guy in the stands
to benefit of the doubt with what he said, not
not meaning it racially, the fact is that NBA players
(33:35):
walk in thinking, as I've heard stories about Utah. I
felt it before, and so they're they're a little bit
they're a little bit on edge. And that's you know,
you go back to the cell phone incident last year
at the you know, at the at the end of
the playoffs series in which they lost, and I had
NBA players texting me like, look, dude, Utah, they they're
not they may not all be racist, But there are
(33:55):
some racists in there that yell some yells some things,
and everyone in the NBA seems to o it. And yeah,
I'm with you. Utah Jazz going like, look, enough is enough?
Um Am. I just think is like russages. NBA players
do have the power to do what Utah is doing
on a smaller level, which is somebody says something like
point security, They're gone, and you will be amazed at
how quickly everybody else shuts up. Rick Buker Buker and
(34:18):
friends of the podcast Bleacher Report is where he writes

Dan Buyer hoop. There's a upsets near upsets old dominion
with a come from behind when what he got, Doug,
I've got tons to add on to what you were
talking with, Rick Bucker. The Desert News in Salt Lake
City is reporting that the Jazz permanently banned another fan
who was caught on video last season during the playoffs
using the term boy towards Russell Westbrook during that playoff
(35:05):
series with a thunder. So now two fans banned by
the Utah Jazz. No Lebron James tonight for the Lakers
sitting out to rest against the Pistons. Rockets point guard
Chris Paul out tonight because of rest against the Phoenix Suns. Yes.
In college basketball, Florida survives in advances past top seed
l s U in the SEC Tournament seventy six to
(35:25):
seventy three, so the top seeded Tigers out Florida moves
onto the semi finals. Michigan State onto the Big Ten
semis after dropping Ohio State seventy seven to seventy. Houston
rounded Yukon in the American Athletic Conference quarterfinals eight four
to forty five. Right now in the Big Ten in Chicago,
Wisconsin's up on Nebraska twenty five to eighteen. Memphis leads
(35:47):
UCF early in the second half in the American Conference
quarterfinals thirty seven to twenty seven. And the big news
in the NFL, Dolphins traded quarterback Ryan Tannehill to the
Tennessee Titans. Miami gets a fourth round pick at and
a seventh rounder in. Titans will also get a sixth
rounder from Miami and nineteen. Dolphins also picking up much
of the new restructured deal for tanney Hill, paying five
(36:10):
million dollars of the seven million he's set to make
in Tennessee. And Brown's running back Kree Hunts spended eight
games for violating the league's person of Conduct policy. We'll

(38:01):
Dan Buyer, what's the game? Yes, it is psychic psychic
hit his psychic psychic. Who will be the starting quarterback
for the Biami Dolphins in nineteen Josh Rosen, Oh, all right,
interesting not waiting for to get a quarterback because right
(38:22):
now they've got Jake Rudoc and Luke falk as the
quarterbacks on their roster. And you could say that Brock
isn't brocos Whiler still available? No, no, no, no, Brock
Um Brock I think went to the Jets with that.
I was gonna say Gay has gone some Yeah, maybe
I think he went with I think he went with Cases.
I could be wrong because they still have let's his name,
(38:44):
Brock wins somewhere else I know. Anyway, I'm almost positive
brock oss widow went somewhere somewhere else. Uh yeah, but
I think he already I want to say he already
um left not anyway, I don't think Broncos while I
was hanging around there, all right, Yeah, the with the
(39:05):
coaching change doesn't make much sense, but the Dolphins will
need someone to quarterback in nineteen here's maybe a bigger question. Now,
have been rumors, by the way, that they're gonna, you know,
tank for Tua. Oh yeah, for one of those guys. No, No,
it's definitely been out there. Vegas put them as the
worst odds of any team to win the Super Bowl,
Super Bowl fifty four, which, by the way, we'll be
at the Dolphins home stadium, stadium, very nice place, smaller,
(39:29):
And then you think, and it's really nice with the redo,
will Marcus Mariott to be the starting quarterback of the
Titans in playing his fifty year option in twenty nineteen?
Now with Tannehill as the backup, will Marcus Mariotto be
the back for the Titans? Yes, all right, without any question?
(39:49):
All right, you think he's the quarterback of the future
From here and beyond, I mean I I definitely think
he's did their quarterback. Yeah, I mean here and be
I don't know it. Here and beyond, I think they
want to. He hasn't been healthy an entire season yet,
so they had to go get a like Ryan dani
Hills for a backup. He's excellent for a starter. He's
(40:10):
below average, but he's fine. And I thought they did.
I thought they did a good job, alright, Psychic who
will win the SEC tournament is top seed l s
U was upset by Florida today, Uh, Kentucky will win.
They're playing in the quarterfinals tonight. Psychic is the third
time the charm for Duke tonight as they hope to
(40:32):
have Zion Williamson for the whole game against North Carolina.
Didn't play in the second meeting, and of course, just
seconds into that first meeting, his shoe blew outs yes,
they will absolutely positively beat North Carolina. Al right. So
then that leads to this psychic who will be the
four number one seeds when the brackets come out on Sunday? Virginia, Duke, Kentucky, Gonzaga.
(40:58):
There it is game. This is game time on the
Duck Gottlieb Show. I thought this was interesting. Um that
Mark Spears the Undefeated says, I've been told there's no
way Anthony Davis is coming to l A through the Pelicans.
(41:19):
They're just not going to do it. You know. Look,
there's still the what about Kawhi Leonard. We've all thought
he's going to the Clippers. What if he doesn't still
the Lakers or what else can they do what if
no one comes? And then it's a lot like Kobe
at the end when it's just kind of sad nobody
(41:39):
wants to play with him. This whole thing is just
nuts beyond nuts. Devin Funches joins the show upcoming next
from Cam Newton to Andrew Luck, what does he expect?
And as Andrew Luck texted him, probably not right? Find

I love it, I love it. I love what Zion
Williamson said, Uh last night. I love watching daytime college
basketball Nebraska, hanging around with with Wisconsin using a walk on.
(42:44):
I also loved like names right everybody. Ali Farrukemanesh from
Northern Iowa back in the day, all right, and I'm
not sure if you're wearing. Nebraska has been using a
kid name true Blood. How great is that name? Right,
Johnny true Blood? Johnny true Blood stars in Virginia has
(43:04):
a big guy. His name is Jack Jack Salt Salt
and true Blood are It's like It's like a Buddy
Cop movie, isn't it. I love the I love the name.
The name part of college basketball. The other part to
college basketball I've always liked is the the nick of
the mascot nicknames the Mattadors, which of course was where
(43:25):
Ryan Music went to school. I guess any type of
defense they play technically is Mattador defense, although no one
wants to be told they play Mattador defense, right, But
I love a good nickname. I love a good Johnny
true Blood, a good walk on story. And I'm gonna
get chance on radio to call the Big Ten networks
other two quarter quarterfinals, including checking out Michigan a little
(43:49):
bit later on to night. I like this Michigan squad
is interesting because you know, they lost so much last year,
but this year very much a kind of a defensive juggernaut,
although twice they've lost him. Chigan State speaking of Michigan.
He's a Michigan a lum and he's now a member
of the Indianapolis Colts. He's Devin Funches. He joins us
on the Doug Gotli Show on Fox Sports Radio. Devin,
how are you? I'm doing good. I'm doing good. How
(44:12):
are you doing good? What's it? What's it like to
change that You've never done this before, to change teams
in the National Football League? What's the feeling like? It
was different? It was it was something I had to
get get like a custom to It was like it
was it was very different to just go out there
and pick again. It was like coming out of high
school all over. But if you getting paid for it,
(44:34):
so yeah, yeah, embrace it at embrace it and uh
and enjoyed it. Um. Is it like? Take me through
the emotions, Take me through the emotions of it. Where
you've played for a super Bowl with the Carolina Panthers,
is not like it's been all bad? Right, you played
the playoffs, you played in the world's biggest game. You've
(44:55):
had some great experiences there. What's it like too for
the first time, Like, have you did you go back
and clean out your stuff? Did they send it to you, like,
what has there has there been an official cut from
the Carolina Panthers. I mean no, I've been back. I've
been up up in Michigan, chilling with the fam I
was enjoying it doing the process with the families, chilling.
(45:15):
So I'm cool all everybody. There wasn't any uh any
bad bad relationships over there, So I'm pretty sure they
have probace sing myself up to. Yeah, I'm always weird
about somebody else going through my stuff and sending me
my stuff, like I don't know, like I want to.
I'm cool. I'm cool. All of equipment, equipment, people say,
(45:36):
all good people they have. Yeah, I just wonder, are
you gonna keep all the Carolina Panther workout gear? Right?
Or do you have to get rid of all your
Carolina Panther stuff? How does that work? I know I
will always keep all my stuff I get rid of,
you know, I kind of uh I was, I was,
I seasoned them. You can say that. Okay, So, so
(45:58):
did Andrew Luck play any part in recruiting you, Like,
did he say like, hey man, you gotta come play
with us? I mean no, it was it was totally
my decision on everything. That I was going through the process.
I was I was just narrowing it down to best
super Bowl Super Bowl Cali routine. And what about the Colts?
(46:20):
What about the Colts made you think they got a
chance to make the Super Bowl? All right? Just the
just the locker room. I feel like if it's a
chill locker room and they go in, go to work
and coach right, he's he's an amazing guy. Every story
I keep hearing about him, He's an amazing guy. And
then got the guy at quarterback. He's ready to go.
I mean, he had an amazing season coming off that shoulder,
(46:42):
and uh, I think he's ready to take it to
the next level. I don't think there's any doubt about it.
And Chris Ballard. People thought that Chris Paller would go
out and get a levy on Bell. He did not.
What are what are your interactions with Chris Power the
general manager? Like it was? It was cool. It was
kind of I remember him when he was the chiefs
as We kept having a conversations and he was just
(47:04):
he's the same guy and he's gonna he knows what
he wants. And you can see the character in the
in the locker room that he has over there and
around the building. So I appreciate him the opportunity and
reaching out to at least you know you. You guys
have had some when you're in Carolina, some ups and
some downs. Obviously Cam's health a big part of the factor.
And then you know when you lost Josh Dorman, the
(47:27):
the defensive backfield, wasn't it? What wasn't as strong? When
you went to the Super Bolt that year? That was
a dominant, dominant team, right like that? You are thin
one game in the regular season, and then of course
you lost and end up losing in the Super borl
to to Peyton Manning. Did you know, I take me back,
did you know, hey, this is it? Did it feel
like a championship team from day one? Or did you
(47:47):
just evolve into one? Uh? Coming coming to the coach right? No,
when you came to Carolina, I'm just I'm interested in,
like now that you've been the league for a couple
of years, do when you walk in day one, like
that Carolina Panthers team that went to the Super Bowl,
did it feel different than one the one that didn't
(48:08):
make the play? Coming out of yeah? Coming out yeah,
coming out of college coming out of well, no, every
year you're going with attentions, uh of going to the
super Bowl, but coming out of college and just looking
at the vibe and feeling that I kind of figured
we was going to go to the super Bowl anyway.
This just about the vibe of it. Then then I
met them at a super super human and Luke Keikley
(48:29):
and saw what he was really about, and then I
was like, it ain't no way we could lose it
and shot that season when and then we had the
same expectations that uh that that second season we went
six ten. But however, if you go back and look
at all those games that the factor was was to
to the one points, wasn't even three really in all
those games where we could have went either way. So
(48:51):
so you you never know, and as any given something
in the league. So I feel as if this is
the best opportunity going to the coach, and I feel
as if just looking at him on side looking in
that they had that same type of uh character. Yeah. No, look,
it does feel like this is a young team and
a super young defense. And obviously you got Andrew Luck,
and you you give yourself, you know, you give yourself
(49:13):
a chance. Devin Funch is joining us on The Doug
Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. What's your reaction to
some of the trades? Antonio brown scent obviously went out,
he goes to to Oakland, But maybe more interesting, Odell
Beckham Jr. Just Signed a contract last year with with
the Giants. He's now at Cleveland. Brown. What's your reaction
as a wide receiver in this league? Oh, I just
(49:37):
that's crazy to mean. You know, I felt that if
O'Dell was New York, you know he was, I was him.
But it's business. You know. You can't. You can't. You
can't just have those type of relationships and think everything
is gonna be good. You know, so you always there's
no You got to be on your your peace accused
at all times, and you know you can't. You can't
take it too hard. You gotta play the game and
(49:58):
let the game as a game. Yeah, I'm it sounds
like you're excited to get to work. We really appreciate
you join us. I'll see Big Blue play tonight here
in Chicago. Thanks so much for join us. Congratulations of
the new deal with Indianapolis Colts. I appreciate you. Stevin
Funch is joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Connor
Barwin joins the show up coming next. He played with
(50:20):
ob j in uh uh in New York. Of course,
he's played with a bunch of different teams. Obviously played
in Houston, played in Philadelphia. But I want to ask
him what is O'Dell actually like as a teammate. I'll
ask him up coming next, But first, Hulu has given

is gonna join us about I don't know what do
you guys think? Five minutes or so? M m m uh. Look,
this is a this is a very hard line to walk.
(52:05):
It just is. And here's what I mean. Um. Anytime
you come out and you say I think kuriem Hun
should be allowed to play football again, well I'll wait
a second. That means that means you're supporting a spousal
or a domestic abuse Like no, no, I'm I'm not.
(52:26):
But I also think that I don't think it's a crime.
I don't think it His crime is one where he
should lose his entire career, right, Like, again, there's a
bunch of things we don't know about, but I mean,
you know you've got two other you know, you got
(52:48):
a running back um in Cincinnati and you've got a
wide receiver in Kansas City that both you know, hit
women when they were in college and they're playing now.
They were you know, one was suspended for one season
at Oklahoma one lost his scholarship. Tyrekio lost his scholarship
at Oklahoma State and then transferred out, and then that
(53:09):
probably hurt him when he was drafted and he's obviously
made a crew. Is like, I think we can be
reasonable and say we have a great amount of distaste
for it. It's it's gross, it's offensive. You want it,
you want to not happen anymore. But when it does,
(53:30):
it doesn't mean you give the death penalty to somebody's
career if they're willing to go through the steps of
probably having to find another gig, probably being suspended, and
then like let's see, like are you a dude who
cannot control himself around women or did you just have
a really really bad night And there were submitted gating
sir and you did something stupid. So when the NFL
(53:55):
hands down in eight games suspension of Kareem Hunt, I
sit there and I say, you know, that's probably about right,
because if you think about it, he lost essentially half
of a year last year, and he lost his job,
and he was on his way to getting a big contract,
(54:17):
and he gets the second opportunity granted with a guy
who believes in him, believed in him when they brought
him in in John Dorris, who was with him in
Kansas City. You need that rabbi in the room. But
he'll lose that half a year with this deal as well.
So I mean, look, you could even say that feels
like a lot, but because there's video of it, because
(54:39):
of the time in which we live, like, yeah, that's
about right, that's about right. And I know, I'm I guess. Look,
it's it's really popular in this country to sit there
and go like, you know, I should just never play
football again. Football is a privilege, not a right, and
(55:00):
and you know we're right. But on the other hand, uh,
it is a gladiatorial sport. It is one. It is
one in which you know, guys are beating up on
each other. It doesn't mean you need to carry that
into your personal life. But there's there's just so much
more to it than just like, Okay, guy does something wrong, goodbye,
(55:20):
should never play football ever again. Like I don't know,
Like he surrendered his right to play for the Kandaisy Chiefs,
he did something bad, he lost his gig, he lost
I think you know, there's no one's gonna make him
a spokesperson. There's not gonna be off the field opportunities
for him for a long long time. So let's not
(55:43):
have double or triple jeopardy and not allow him to
ever play football again, losing essentially an entire season and
a job and putting him as a backup in Cleveland.
It feels it feels like the right amount. It feels
like the right amount by the NFL, like when it
feels like it's maybe a little bit too much. On
(56:04):
the other hand, because there's video, and because you could
and because he lied about it initially, you could have said, hey,
he's got a suspended for your when both sides are
a little bit unhappy, you probably nailed it all right.
Connor Borrowin's our guest in The Dug Gotlip Show on
Fox Sports Radio. Look dude, hard to make a segue
into that one. Sorry about that, Connor, I don't want to,
(56:25):
He joins his on Fox Sports Radio. I've seen your
most recent I G s hanging out at the beach
with the fam. Where are you in terms of continuing
your football career? Connor Bueller? Bueller, all right, we'll work

catch up with Connor Barwin. Uh free agent nash football
Leagui's joined us at every network I've been at. He's
(01:00:00):
pretty much been with a bit different football team. I'm kidding,
but it's it's actually kind of true. Um, all right,
what's what's your status as of as of just maybe
not just this moment, because just this moment, you're a dad,
you're a husband, you're hanging out at the beach, Um,
in terms of football, what's your status? Well, I'm gonna
take my time here and kind of let the free
agency dust subtle, and then I'll probably sign the next
(01:00:23):
couple of weeks, um and try to find the best
place for me, the best opportunity for me where I
can play and be successful and then hopefully win the
Super Bowl. Alright, So a lot of it comes down
to fit right in terms of fit and system fitting
knowledge right. One of the reasons you came to play
with the Rams was your your knowledge of of Wade system. Uh,
what's what's the right fit for you in terms of stylistically, Well,
(01:00:47):
it's it's you know, I don't I don't want to.
I think it's a place where I can probably be
the second or third pass rusher. Um, you know, play
anywhere from you know, thirty to forty snaps the game, Um,
and then be on a good team that has a
real shot to get to the playoffs. Connor barrowin joining
us in the Doug Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:01:07):
We can talk to you see barcat Hoop at some point,
but first let me let me let let me ask
you what what's your reaction is the guy who was
on the Giants last year? Your action to them, um,
trading Way, Olivier verning and then trading Way Odell Beckham Jr. Well,
I was I wasn't surprised to see them trade away Ovie. Um.
(01:01:30):
I mean I love playing with Olvi is a hell
of a player. Um. I think how good he is
doesn't translate UM into his stats. So I think that's why,
you know, maybe part of the reason he was traded.
And he wasn't from the old regime. UM, and so
I wasn't surprised to see him get traded. I was
surprised to Dell. Um I was. I think I was.
I'm doing an interview, you know, hours before talking about it,
(01:01:53):
and I said, you know, there's no way they trade
O'Dell would kind of be you know, in a reactive
thing after you know, the whole team had a bad year. Um,
but they did so um and then I thought they
were going to do They're doing a major rebuild type
of thing. But now then they you know, signed Golden
Tape to that contract, so apparently they're not. So I
don't I don't know what they're doing. Yeah, I'm I'm
(01:02:13):
not sure either. What was what was O b J? Like? Awesome?
I mean I thought it was a great teammate. You know,
I said this the other day, probably the most talented
athlete I've ever been around. I mean, just watching him
in practice, every day was pretty incredible. Um. And so
you know I thought everybody loved playing with him as
good good in the locker room. Um, obviously you know
(01:02:34):
he's everybody knows he's a very emotional, passionate guy. But
you know, I don't I look at that as a positive,
not really negative. You guys are playing the Bears and
he was on the kick team, hands team, and ball
comes his way, and look it's his job to get
on the ball, and he made he made the old
business decision. Um. What was there a reaction to that
in the locker room. Yeah, I mean we were we
(01:02:56):
were kind of shocked to see that. Um, But know
that was that was a moment. You know that he
probably wanted back. Um, But it doesn't it doesn't change
like what we've bought, what I saw him do for
the whole season, and when I saw him do with
that stuff when I played the Eagles of the Division
for a couple of years, I mean I was always
impressed within because obviously it's a small, quick, incredibly athletic
(01:03:17):
receiver that makes kind of these highlight catches. But I
remember when I played for the Eagles, he used to
get into his Malcolm Jenkins and maybe John you know,
going at it during run plays, and that's when I really,
you know, I had a ton of respect for him.
Connor borrowin joining us on the Doug Gotlips Show on
Fox Sports Radio, You've been on You've been on enough
teams now, I mean some really good ones in Houston, Um,
(01:03:39):
some good ones in Philadelphia, a good one in the Rams,
and then one in which, as you said, you guys
had a bad year with with the Giants. When you
walk into the locker room, we just had Devin Funches on.
He kind of said that, but he he walked into Carolina,
they're pretty good right away. How long is it before
you know if the season is going to be a
good one, the team really is a good one. Well,
(01:04:00):
I think you know in the first you know, the
first six weeks, I would say. I mean, sometimes teams
have you don't know in training camp at all. I
think training camp it's really hard to tell. The preseason
you don't know at all, um, And even the first month,
the first month of the season, it's kind of hard
to tell. But you know, you get to that week
five or six, you start to see who you're gonna be. Um,
(01:04:22):
and I think, you know, we went a week later.
If you go to weeks seven, we were one and six,
and I think at that point we knew it was
gonna be a long year. But you know, I think
things changed for us, and we probably shouldn't have changed
too many things, because after that Week seven, we went
three and one and then we're playing in Philly, um
and we're up thirteam oh at half time. We would
have won that game, would completely changed everything around in
(01:04:44):
the NFC East and we would have been playing probably
meaningful games all the way until Week's seventeen. But that
didn't happen, and we ended up losing that game against
the Eagles, and then the season was kind of over
after that. No, I know, I'm when I'm just I'm
wondering in terms of chemistry and cohesion if you can
tell that early on, because sometimes, like I think, it
(01:05:05):
takes and you got to get into the season, you know,
I mean, you really got to get into like five
six weeks into the season, you know. I mean, if
I mean you if you're saying you don't know, it
takes that long to know, I mean, if you're you're
on a special team, like when you know in Houston,
we knew we were kind of going to be good
because of the previous season, and you know, the kind
of group of guys we had, the culture we had,
(01:05:26):
the coaches, uh, you know that all got along, you
know that stuff. But if you don't know when you're
going into a fresh new team, a lot of new faces,
I think it takes you know, you got to get
into the heart of the season to find out. Um,
as you kind of pay attention to who's going where
and all this other movement, what what team do you
feel like they've made a cup moves that guys inside
the NFL, guy like yourself that's played for a decade
(01:05:47):
goes like, oh, that's interesting. I kind of like what
they've been doing. Well, let me think about it for
a second. But one that comes to mind, UM is Baltimore.
I mean they kind of I don't know, lot of
people were saying, you know, they don't understand what they
were doing. But when they let Sugs and C. J.
Mosley go um, but I thought it was a sign
(01:06:08):
of like a team deciding, you know, making some hard
decisions to not overpay for guys. UM and then they
um brought in the safety UM and they're gonna have
tons of money to spend where they need to spend it,
So I thought they were smart. I think I'm reading
a lot about what Miami's doing right now, and they're
they're committed to um kind of rebuilding right now and
(01:06:29):
that will probably pay off on a couple of years.
So those are the two that just come to mind
right now. Yeah, It's it's interesting, like everybody wants their
team to go for it every year, like what are
you doing? Like, hey, the reality is not everybody's in
the same place, and you can't go for it every year.
You might not be able to say it to your
to your fans, you know, but you can say it
to the rest of the league where you kind of, hey,
(01:06:49):
pack it in for a year and load up. I
felt like that's what the Raiders were doing, where they
were like, hey, look, man, we're not that good. Let's
get rid of our and they got three first round
picks are two really good players, and then they then
they go into like well Antonio Brown changed that, like wait,
are you rebuilding for Vegas or are you going for
it now? It feels like sometimes teams get kind of
(01:07:10):
caught in the middle and get a little over anxious. Yeah,
I think you're a hundred percent right, and we'll see
if it were solved for Oakland, I think. I think
on the opposite side of that, I think teams that
again are being smart. I think always in New England
is very smart with what they're doing. You saw a
lot of their guys go that got got paid pretty
incredible contracts. Uh. And then I think you know what
Philly does. Philly is always pretty smart with what they do,
(01:07:32):
and I think they picked up some pretty good strategic
pieces which will put them in a good place for
the draft. Yeah. It's gonna be fascinating to see. All right,
So how long a you're gonna dragged this thing out?
And are you going to announce on our show? Yeah?
Maybe maybe I'll do that. I'll call you in a
couple of weeks and a little announced. Um, I'll try
to remember this conversation right now, but I'm probably gonna wait.
You know, it'll probably a three or four weeks afore
(01:07:54):
I make my decision. But you're definitely coming back playing
football next year. We get to see you play football
hundred percent. Um. Alright, So since Nanati Bearcats at a
little disappointed. I mean, you got a chance to, you know,
win the league in your building, redo that building as
a former since Nanati Bearcat now football, but remember basketball
(01:08:14):
player as well. What do you think about the Bearcats
heading in the n c A Tournament. You know, I
like them. I like them all every year because I'm
biased because that's where I went and I played for
Bick Crowning and I always root for him. Um. I
hope last year was a major learning lesson for them.
I mean it was probably the easiest road to the
final four Sincinnati will ever have, if you remember UM,
(01:08:38):
and they just kind of kind of messed it up
down the strut. So I hope they can kind of
lean on their experience and last year UM to be
a little bit more composed as they go into the
tournament this year. Yeah, Houston's kind of roll into what's interesting.
You know, last time they went to the Final four,
I'm sure you're aware, was in Minneapolis, which is where
the Final four stay. Like, I know, those things don't
(01:08:59):
actually matter, but it's kind of a kind of a
cool thing for for bear Cat fans, right Yeah, I
did not know that, but that would be awesome. I
like that kind of stuff. I was there. It was
at the Metrodome. I actually sold tickets out in front.
That's what I I was a kid. I was a kid.
I want to go see Duke play. My dad would
get uh. He was member of the NABC, which is
(01:09:19):
the National Association of Basketball Coaches. If you're current head coach,
you get two tickets. If you're a former, if you're
an assistant or former coach, uh, you get you get
one ticket. So you get one in like the hundred level,
and you know, you'd sell that and then you'd buy
two in the two hundred levels, sell those, buy you know,
lower to the worst two hundred level eventually worked where
you have like the worst seats in the building, and
(01:09:42):
then you go in with those and then you walk
down you sit, you know, in somebody's seats, you know,
someone an unoccupied seat down court level. That was That
was how I rolled as a kid. And I saw
those guys. Yeah, yeah, I wasn't. It wasn't exactly having
my dad pay a hundred or five hundred thousand dollars
to get me into college, but it was. It was
a scam. At the time. It was pretty good ultimate
(01:10:03):
tickets got. It was it was a good hustle. Hey man, listen,
enjoy your time with your beautiful family, and look forward
to see where your next top is. I appreciate it.
Have a good day, all right. It's kind of borrowing
of an unknown NFL team, but we'll see. He told
us he didn't promise us, but he told us he'd
think about think about announcing here in the Dug Godlip Show.
(01:10:26):
Let's uh, we we've had Dan Buyer already give us
our our updates. This is this is a very difficult
thing to do. Buyer. I don't know how you're doing
what you do where people don't understand. He's got his
own show to prep for. He's got our updates, he
does other updates, and then you got to keep an
eye on all these games. Nebraska Wisconsin right now, two
point game over at the United Center. I'm in Chicago.
(01:10:48):
I'm calling the radio call for the nightcap of the
Big Ten games. But this is Big Tim Miles trying
to keep his job. Last year they won thirteen conference
games of only eighteen games. This year there's twenty conference games.
The only won six, but Nebraska playing with six scholarship
players and a walk on who Johnny true Blood, who
(01:11:10):
no one had ever heard of before this week, is
now only down a point. Uh with eleven thirty to
go against number nineteen Wisconsin. So h that probably the biggest,
most impactful game. And you're like, why does that impact
my life? If Nebraska wins the Big Ten tournament and
gets into the n c A tournament, that takes away
(01:11:31):
a bubble spot, that's called a bid steal. It's called
a bid steal. Uh. Music, do you have any n
c A tournament related questions that you would like to ask?
Anything you've ever wondered? Ramost anything you've ever wondered. I
just feel like this year or the past, maybe not
last year, but this year in particular. You know, seeing
(01:11:53):
Zion last night, it definitely feels like Duke's tournament. But
other than Duke, it feels completely wide open. Uh. Yeah,
I don't think there's there The teams are ridiculous to
the dominant. I think there's a pool of teams that
are better than everybody else. Well, I guess I would
say those that pool of teams seems a lot larger
(01:12:15):
than what it normally is. It's not that there's no
good teams, it's just that other than Duke with a
healthy zion, no one seems to be head and shoulder's
above the rest. I mean, like, I think Gonzaga is good,
but you know, like the the recency bias of seeing
them loose to St. Mary's is what gives you pause.
It's fair. Um, I think Virginia is really good, but
(01:12:36):
they've lost the Duke twice. Right. On the other hand,
they've throttled just about everybody else. I think North Carolina
is outstanding. Um, I don't know if they have I
don't know if they have the top end, top end
talent uh to compete with Duke. On the other hand,
like even Duke with their supposed dominance, like they don't
shoot it that well, and they really only have three
(01:12:58):
guys that can score, and there's really really young. And
then you have Kentucky, who I got we might be
missing this whole thing because Kentucky lost, you know to
a talented L s U team on a controversial note call,
and they lost to to Tennessee and we saw them
get just their doors blown off early by Duke. But
they have PJ. Washington, who's a sophomore, has had a
(01:13:19):
great season. Tyler hero is a bucket get Tyler Hero
and Kelden Johnson who are bucket. And then they got
an older player and Read Travis is a fifth year
senior transfer from Standing from from Stanford. So they have
some inside scoring. They have some perimeter shooting with sometimes
John cal Perry's team's lack um. They have pretty good
guard play. Ashton Higgins is not much of a shooter,
(01:13:40):
but he's a tremendous, tremendous defender. You know, their question is,
you know, point guard shooting. But other than that, like
Kentucky might be the time. It's crazy, we might because
they got pummeled by Duke in November. They might be
the team we're talking about least that's got the best
shot to take down Duke in the n c A tournament.
All right, still a lot to come. Alan Crab joins

of this, but he's saved a high school, personally saved

have Alan Crab joined us momentarily. Um. He played at

to save that high school. And they're gonna name the
gym in his honor upcoming next week. And it's a
story I know well because my brother recruited him to
go to cal and was incredibly fired up when they
first got him. He had a great career cal And
(01:15:48):
got a big contract in the NBA and now is
with the Brooklyn Nets. Who are I don't think anybody
would argue if I said, hey, who's the most surprising
team this year in the NBA. If somebody said the
it's no, nobody's gonna argue with you, right. They kind
of came out of nowhere and are now a playoff team,
playoff team. I do want to go back to something
(01:16:10):
and maybe we can bring this up with with Alan
as well. You know, last night Zion Williamson came back
to play for Duke, and I wasn't just the way
he played. And as you guys know, if you've listened
to me, I thought that the whole conversation about sitting
out was nonsensical. But I wasn't just that he played
(01:16:32):
and the energy that he brought to the building and
how hard he played and the spectacular dunks and the
defensive plays. It was after the game, I think Alison Williams,
the sideline reporter, and she asked him about, you know,
the decision to come back and play, and he was like,
it was never really a question, like I always wanted
to come back to play, like this is why I
came here. And then she said, is there anything you
(01:16:55):
want to say to those people? Like, look, I appreciate
all your advice, but I'm not gonna leave my boys hanging.
I just I just felt like the tone, the smile,
also the hey, look I hear you. I got it.
It's not that I'm I'm not saying what you're saying
is dumb. I'm just saying that's it's not who I am.
(01:17:17):
And I completely understand the ramifications of it. I have
My first partner in national radio is a guy named
Chuck Wilson and um and Chuck told you he gave
me some great advice. He was like, look, money is
a factor when you make decisions. Like let's not pretend
it's not, but when money is the first factor and
(01:17:39):
why you make a decision. It's probably not the best decision.
And it's interesting. Washington State is a job that that
just came open, right Wazoo. Wazoo's the toughest job in
the pack twelve. I think more for basketball than it
is for football. Um, you know, look, both are about recruiting.
But but in football you can read your guys. Guys
(01:18:00):
have to stay three years. You know you can, you can,
you can load up with with underrated guys and may act.
This year they went on and got a fifth year
grad transfer and had a dynamic quarterback um which you
would think is hard to replicate, but it's not as hard.
I think there's a tough job. It's not an impossible job.
Your traveling did a good job there. Tony Bennett did
(01:18:22):
a good job there. Kelvin Sampson did a good job there.
But it's a it's a difficult place to consistently win.
And I had a I have a coaching friend head
coaching college who when you look at the lists for
names of guys that will be mentioned for Washington State,
he's on most of those lists. And he said, look,
(01:18:46):
you only take washing in his opinion, you only take
Washington State for two reasons, and I was like, what
are the what's the second reason? He goes the first
and the fifteen right in other words, like wherever you
are now, can't play as much as a twelve job.
So you take it and you swallow hard. Know that
you're gonna lose some games. Really you might have a
good year or two, but you're doing it because you're
(01:19:07):
gonna make so much money that even the losses you'll
end up wiping your tears away with. And I said, well,
then you shouldn't take a job, and he agreed. He's like, look,
you don't take a job just for money. And I
felt like that's what I know. He's only eighteen, and
maybe he doesn't know what he doesn't know, or maybe
(01:19:29):
being a teen he he knows a whole hell of
a lot more that that he gets. This is kind
of cool. I know what's out there for me, and
I'll make money. I know there's a certain there's always
a certain he could get hurt, But like, look, dude,
when you when you're Zion Williams and your six six five,
anytime you're working out you warm up, you could essentially
(01:19:53):
hurt yourself it's not football. It's not You're not a
wide receiver going over the middle. You're not a running
back who has a limited number of carries like Lebron
James is the biggest, baddest body. And let's be honest,
in sixteen years in the NBA, the worst injury he
sustained was a pulled drain and he plays five times
(01:20:16):
as many games in a year as Zion Williamson. So
can we stop with this? Basketball is super, super dangerous
and risky thing. Yes, rhyme music. I feel like and look,
I hate saying this because it's not anything under his
own control. It's not like Zion's out there like puff
in his own chest. He's actually a really humble person.
(01:20:37):
It does feel like he is bound to underwhelm in
the NBA, just with how much hype he's getting. I mean,
and again, like it's not his fault by any means,
but like you know, this morning, Colin Cowherd saying like, oh,
if your team's worth two billion, if you win the
lawn and get to take Zion number one, overall, your
team just became worth two point five billion, Like it
(01:21:00):
just seems like, look, I think he's completely marketable and
everything more than just an actual basketball that's ridiculous. But
it just seems like there it's almost impossible, like he
would literally have to be in the next Lebron and
be the face of the league for the next ten years.
Otherwise that's that's one guy that's like, look, let's let's
(01:21:21):
calm the hype. But it's not just I would say this, like, look,
when Kevin Durant came out, there's a ton of hype.
He's lived up to it. When Ben Simmons came out,
he didn't play for a year, but then he's lived
up to it. It's Tray Tray Young is is having
an unbelievable year. Luca don Chitz is like, yeah, I
get this one feels different. Part of it is you
have to have somebody who knows how to sell exactly
(01:21:42):
what he is. And yeah, he's a highlight factory with
the dunks. But he's like the newer version of Roddy
Rogers meets Draymond Green means Charles Barkley um meets a
little bit of Lebron. Right, That's that's what he is.
And if you look at it from that lens, I
(01:22:03):
think you'll be fine. Do I think he makes you
worth a billion dollars more? No? No, but basketball players
generally live up to at least some level of the hype,
even if this is hype that we have not previously seen.
Are the Browns headed for boom or bust? A risky proposition,
but one with a lot of talent dudes out there.
(01:22:28):
We'll get to that one up coming next in the

We've seen almost everything, so we had to cover almost anything.
When it's game time, haven't experienced player help you stay
out of the game, put their experience in the play
at Farmers dot com. Boom or bust? Right, That's the
only way to describe the Cleveland Browns. Um. We'll get
(01:23:13):
to my thoughts on the Cleveland Browns, and we'll get
to the thoughts of Jeff Schwartz, who is a former
New York Giant, and what the Giants are doing, what
the Browns are doing, longtime NFL lineman. Of course, you
hear him on Fox Sports Trading. You see him on
the Action Network. He'll join us up coming in about
fifteen minutes or so. We're keeping our eye on college hoops.
(01:23:34):
You heard Dan Buyer mentioned that hard fought game between Wisconsin,
that Badgers and the bid Steelers, which is Nebraska. Um,
so we'll we'll update you before half past the hour
on all the scores of the day. If I were
to look through the NBA standings, like you knew Milwaukee
was gonna be good, you might not think they've had
(01:23:54):
the best record in the league. You knew Toronto would
be good. Indiana continuing to win in spite of the
fact at the Victor Oladipo's after the year's surprising Phillies
relatives struggles, Boston's relative struggles are surprising. But the most
stunning team, not just in the Eastern Conference, I would
say in all of basketball, is the Brooklyn Nets. They're
(01:24:17):
not just in the playoffs, right now they're safely in
the playoffs, safely in Brooklyn. Nets are thirty six and
thirty four. Uh. They do have an all star in
D'Angel Russell who's kind of recaptured the luster of his career.
Spencer Dinwiddie, guy who's been cut a couple of times
over had that terrible knee injury at while at playing
(01:24:38):
at Washington, while playing for Colorado in college, and now
he's he's found at home, got a new contract. Harris Lavert,
Alan Crabb, Young, Jared Allen like this is good of course.
Joe Harris, who's the three point king, Like this kind
of an interesting team. They play three in d basketball,
shoot a ton of threes or get to the rim.
(01:25:01):
They have Kenny Atkinson has done an amazing job as coach,
like I would, I'm I have no problem, no problem
saying it's the most surprising team in the NBA. And
I don't think anybody would ever really argue with me. Right,
So they're fasting. We'll catch up with Alan Krabb. Uh
and oh he's gonna join us school. Alan Krab joined
(01:25:23):
us on the Doug Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Trading. Alan,
how are you I'm doing good. How about yourself? Good man, UM,
I want to get to next week. I know it's
gonna be big, big for you going back to Price
High School. But um, coming into the season, what were
your personal expectations with the Nets? Uh, I think you
kind of hit on it. Uh, just doing whatever we
(01:25:43):
can do to make the playoffs. Obviously, you know a
lot of people, UM didn't expect us to have the
type of season that we're having. But uh, I think
that the organization has done a great job that bringing
the right uh you know, targeting the right guys to
bring get high character guys, guys who are buying into
the culture that Workman is creating over there. Guys who
(01:26:07):
you know, have a chip on their shoulder, Guys who
you don't have a lot to prove, uh, you know
for their NBA career. And I just think that, you know,
they brought a lot of good guys and guys who
don't have egos, guys who you know, play their role,
play their role really well. And I think it's been
I think it's been a great season for us. And obviously,
you know with this you know last stretch of the season,
(01:26:27):
you know, just trying to win as many games as
we can to make sure that we solidify our spot
in the playoffs. For me personally, it's just been, uh,
it's been a up and down year. Um. You know,
started off, you know, kind of slow, have some struggles
and getting kind of picked it up. Then the injury happened. Um,
you know, it was only gonna be out a few games,
and it turned into twenty six games, so mr, a
(01:26:49):
good bulk of the of the season. Um, and then
coming back and there's just been a lot of up
and down. But I mean, you know, just trying to
finish the season Stroman, just trying to do whatever I
can to contribute to my team and um, just bring
whatever I can to the table to make sure that
we can get as many wins as we can get, uh,
you know before the playoffs. All right, So the injuries,
your need has kept you out last, it's gonna keep
you out a couple of games here. So like when
(01:27:11):
like when no one ever I've never asked anybody this,
and I don't think anybody, So what what does the
knee actually feel like? Well, like when you're like, hey,
I gotta I gotta shut it down for a game
or two, what actually bothers you in your knee. It
was just uh it's called what the fat pad? Uh,
the thing that's like, uh, it's hard to explain. I
would need like the doctors come in and explain it.
(01:27:31):
But obviously it's just it was just pain. I mean
pain that uh you know, kind of sidelined me. I
knew that if I continued to play on it, Um,
I was gonna be limited. I wasn't gonna be a
hundred percent. So I just felt like it wasn't gonna
be a good thing to continue to play through through
the pain, through the soretness. So, um, you know, we
just have to shut it down for a little bit
(01:27:51):
and then um, you know. Unfortunately, we had you know
a few setbacks with that. Um. We thought that the
return timetable was gonna be you know, a little order, um,
but it turned into something that was you know, longer
than expected. But we got it under control. Where Where's
where's the where's the fat pad in your knee? I
have no idea whether is it in the the front,
(01:28:12):
the back, like down in like the patella tendon area,
the top right on the kneecap like about where is
the where's the where's the fat pad. Yeah, that's like right,
the kneecap and then kind of like on the side,
kind of like a little cartilage. Little issues. But I
mean for the most part, it wasn't anything that that
was too too serious. I mean, like I said, we
(01:28:34):
just needed to like manage it and get it under control. Um.
Just I think that we thought that it would be
in a short you know return or it's gonna be
a short time being out, but it turned into something
that was longer. But I mean it was smarter that
we waited and we didn't rush it because, like I said,
there's under control now, and uh, we're managing it pretty well.
(01:28:55):
So it hasn't been getting me any issues lately. So, um,
just moving for from here. Alan Trab joining us in
the Dug Outlip Show on Fox Sports Tradio. Um, I'm
talk about Price High School because you made a big
donation basically saved the school. Why did you go to
Price when you when you're coming out of like middle
school White Price. Oh, I went to Price pre k
(01:29:16):
through twelve, So I was at the school my whole
entire life. Um, basically, it's my it's my family school,
my aunt. Um she found at the school. Her and
my grandparents they found at the school. Um And, like
I said, I've just been at Price my whole entire life.
I had family members, uncles, cousins, my sister, uh little cousins.
(01:29:40):
I still go there, My nephew still goes to school there.
So I think it was just you know, something that
was in our family. Uh So it was like, of
course we're gonna go to our family school. We're gonna
go to every support and uh, I don't think it
was any second guess And I know that, Uh, you know,
at one point, you know, I was like, Okay, I'm
trying to going to Price. You know, it's one school,
same people that I see all the time over the years,
(01:30:01):
and I kind of wanted to, you know, get away
from it. But um, I'm pretty glad that, you know,
my mom kept me in that school, created a lot
of long time relationships with with friends that I'm still
close with to this day. Um And, like I said,
it was just a good, good surrounding for me. What
(01:30:21):
what what was the what was the conversation like when
the school was about to close and you had to
write a check, a big check to keep it open. Oh,
it was. I mean, it was really no second guess.
And my mom had called me. She was in the
meeting with my aunt. Um. They had called a meeting
with the faculty, uh and the staff and everybody that
was working at the school, and you know, they brought
(01:30:43):
everybody in to let them know that they were going
to close the school down. And my mom was sitting
in on the meeting and she just so happened to
text me while she was in there, and she was like,
you know, would you be willing, you know, to donate
X amount of dollars because we're in the meeting right now.
Your aunt is about to tell everybody that they're gonna
close to school down. And she told me, and without
even thinking twice, I told her. Yeah. So the meeting
(01:31:04):
went from or I were going to close the school
down to why we actually got somebody to save the
school and just a matter of minutes. So that's pretty
much how I went down. What's that feeling like? It
was a grateful and man, I mean obviously at the
at the moment, I really didn't realize the impact or
(01:31:25):
or I didn't really see the bigger picture of everybody
that I was helping. I was doing it, you know,
simply because you know, it was my family school, the
legacy that they had built for the school over twenty
plus years. I just didn't want to see it go
away and all the hard work that my eye and
my family and everybody has put into the school. It
just didn't make sense for for it to close down
(01:31:47):
and for somebody like me to be in the position
that I am. Um, you know, God blessed me with
you know, the financial financial means you know, to help
you know, situations like this. So it was just it
was it was this. It was a great feeling, man,
And like I said, it was no second second thinking,
and it was just like all right, for sure, I'm
definitely gonna help out. Well, I know my brother's comment.
(01:32:08):
It's Wednesday at at six thirty at Price High School.
Great stuff, Alan, thanks so much for joining us. Thank you.

great job. I want to ask him about O. B
J's old team, the Giants, what they're doing, and what
his new team, the Browns, What what his thoughts are
on what what the Browns are doing. So we do
(01:33:17):
actually have a lot to get to first though, uh
a lot of hoops obviously, happening today against NFL stories
of the day. Let me get you to Dan Buyer
for sports update. Dan Yeah, Doug. There have been about
three NFL stories and one just in from Kansas City,
The Kansas City Stars reporting that Chief's wide receiver Tyreek
Hill is under investigation for an alleged battery incident involving
(01:33:40):
a juvenile in the Kansas City metro area. The paper
sites a source is saying that the alleged victim in
the alleged incident is Hill's son. The Chiefs say they
are aware of the matter. Hill has not been charged
or arrested. Former Chiefs running back a current Brown's tailback
Kareem Hunt was suspended eight games for violent in the
league's personal conduct policy. The penalty stems from video that
(01:34:03):
surfaced in November of Hunt pushing and kicking a woman
at a hotel in February of last year. He was
then released by the Chiefs. Hunt released the statement apologizing
for his actions, and reports say he will not appeal
that suspension. The Dolphins straighted quarterback Ryan Tannehill to the
Tennessee Titans today, also going to Tennessee as a sixth
round pick, while Miami gets a fourth round pick in
twenty and a seventh rounder in the draft next month.
(01:34:26):
Titans also got the Dolphins to pay about five million
dollars of Tannehill's restructured contracts that will pay him seven
million dollars to back up Marcus Mariota. In college hoops,
Wisconsin survived at the Big Ten quarters, beating Nebraska sixty
six to sixty two. Next up for the Bangers Michigan
State to beat Ohio State seventy seven, is seventy Florida
an upset of l s U and the SEC quarterfinals
seventy three or seventy six to seventy three. Well Phillies
(01:34:50):
helpfielder Brice Harper had to leave today's Grapefruit League game
after he was hit on the ankle by a pitch
and a contest against the Blue Jays, Philly's calling it
a right ankle contusion. Dodgers manager Dave Robert said that
Clayton Kershaw is not likely to be ready for opening Day.
We will be back to the Doug Gottlieb Show in

You're on Fox Sports Radio, and you hear on Fox
Sports Radio al show works for the Action Network. I'm
(01:35:33):
sure he's gonna try and ask me questions in regards
to the n C A Ternamin for bets, I'm gonna
ask him questions regards to National Football League because he
played in the league. He also played for the New
York Giants. And Jeff Schwartz, who joins us on Fox
Sports Radio, Um, what's your opinion with the Giants are
doing this offseason? I don't know what they're doing this offseason.
(01:35:54):
That's what everyone's wondering. Look, you trade down and understand
why you want why you want to trade him, Right,
I'm very high on wide receivers adding value to your
team if you don't have the other pieces in place,
and the Giants don't, right, have no pass rush, they
have no one to guardian wide receivers, and they have
an old quarterback. But it just felt like you had
opportunities to get rid of him before this, before giving
(01:36:15):
him this big contract, and you kind of knew that
you might have not wanted him, but he gave him
a deal anyways, And so now you're on the hook
for the twenty one million you paid him last year
to play twelve games, plus the the the dead money,
and then you go out and signed golden tape. Like
what what you're They're in this weird like half rebuild
mode where they're sort of rebuilding, but they're doing it
(01:36:36):
around a thirty year old quarterback. I just don't get
what they're doing. They don't seem to have a plan whatsoever. Yeah, yeah,
I guess their plan is to rebuild their offensive line. Um,
like what how how good is the guard they got
from the Cleveland Browns? Yes, that looks good. I'm not
sure he's worth the loving twelve dollars again in the year.
(01:36:59):
But he's also twenty are I mean? Is that who
you're rebuilding around? And he's good for a couple of years,
looks And the goal obviously is to get Eli some
more protection. But now you have two lineman Soldier and
and and Zeitler around thirty years old. Um, you obviously
are young at left guard they might sign Mike Remers,
who's now a thirty at right tackle. I mean, these
guys probably are not long term pieces at offensive long
(01:37:21):
I just think the Giants waited too long to make
these moves. I should have done this at the end
of last year or two years ago. I should stay
and just kind of start the process over again. But
they haven't done it now. They might not even draft
a quarterback this year. I man, I could see them
at six taking a pass rusher or or a cornerback,
and then at seventeen best player available, which could be
another pass rusher, and just skipping a quarterback altogether. And
(01:37:43):
but they won't be bad enough next year to like
be probably in the top five another quarterbacks. I don't
I don't know what their exact plan is. I'm not either.
I'm not sure as well. Okay, what about the Oakland
Raiders and what they've decided to do. I get what
they're doing, right, give give Derek Carr weapons with Antonio Brown,
(01:38:06):
and they got it pretty cheap um. And I think
the Williams signing the wide receiver from the Charges was fabulous.
That that feels like a one to punch a car
can work with and you know, this seems like a
situation where I do think they keep Car probably this
year to see what he's got. I think Trent Brown
was interesting because he played with the fabis offensive line
coach in New England and Tom Cable has been known
(01:38:27):
to ruin offensive lines. Who's the offensive line coach? And
they probably paid him more money than they had to,
But they basically admit defeat and their left tackle they
drafted last year in Cold Miller. So I like what
they're doing. Um, they they're adding weapons for Car, which
is what you have to do if you have a quarterback,
and they did. It's murray that they drafted. Nonetheless, they're
adding weapons, uh to that offense. And I don't mind
(01:38:48):
what they did because they got Brown for so cheap. Okay, wait,
so what is it about Tom Cable Because hasn't he
had some success with offensive lines? Like what you give
me the last in the last six years, it's been
pretty at if you look at his offensive line efficiencies
even last year, like Oakland went from being in the
top five I think for past protection on the last
(01:39:09):
five years to be like seven. I don't know what
it is. He just he is not very good I
don't know. The numbers show that it doesn't work very
well when he's coaching an offensive line. Um, and I
couldn't tell you why that is. I mean, Seattle last
year got marketably better after he left and Solari came
in there. Um, he doesn't seem to get you know,
guys don't get better with him, they get worse, and
(01:39:32):
yet he keeps getting jobs. Well, that's the way the
NFL is. I mean, you know you offensive line coaches
do more than just coach offensive line and anser for
people realize that as far as they basically do the
entire run game, they install the whole run game. They
come up with it each and every week. They have
a big handed protections. Um. And they typically are very
(01:39:52):
trusted by head coaches because they have all these responsibilities
and a lot of times they just travel with with
head coaches. Head coaches keeps their off at the wine
coach wherever they go. That's when we see the best
guys typically stay at one job for a long time
and then when the coach leaves, like I said, they
follow that coach because they are really valuable. So maybe
he brings a lot to the table as far as
(01:40:13):
game planning, but his his deal with preparing guys has
not been very good. Alright, So so help me out
with the Cleveland Browns because on paper, man, they got
some dudes right outside the numbers. They got some dudes,
They got a bit, They got a young up and
coming tight end. They have running backs. Um, you know,
they have a quarterback who I think I think his
success was a little in play like, he had a
(01:40:34):
ton of success against the bad defense, against good defense,
the defen's defense. He played ten touchdowns, leven receptions. You know,
some trouble throwing outside the numbers. But uh like, look
that he's got some talent. What's what does their offensive
line look like? What do the what is the weakness
to that Browns team? Yeah, I mean I'd say that
they probably need to get themselves more situated at tackle positions.
(01:40:55):
But I'll tell you what, I love what they're doing.
I think you cannot deny the town they've added an
offense and if you look at bringing Olivia Vernon and
Chelton Richardson, everyone though, it's so like fired up about
them making the playoffs. Like let's just let's let's hold
on a second here, right, you have a brand new,
first time head coach who was unproven, completely unproved. He
spent last year as an interim offensive cordiner on a
(01:41:17):
team that had no pressure whatsoever, and no one tried
to hire him to be head coaches. Here the Browns
oly think even think really he wasn't their first choice
to be head coach, which doesn't always mean he's gonna
be a bad head coach. But I just think we
have to wait and see how Kitchens is the head
coach in charge of the entire team, a team now
that will have the pressure to make the playoffs, adding
(01:41:39):
new personalities onto the team. How is he able to
control all that? How is he able to continue to
lead his team? Like, let's wait a second before we
jump on the Cleveland Browns, you know, winning the NFC
NOS the ANFC North, which I think the Steelers still
win next year, before we kind of crown them, you know,
or this being successful, because we know often Doug that
the winner of Mark in the Foot and you know,
(01:42:01):
afraid to set typically doesn't win in January. That that
that that is often the case. Doug gotlib show here
on Fox Sport Trader. That's the voice of Jeff Schwartz,
longtime offensive lineman in the National Football League. Give me
an under the radar. Hey, they've been doing some things
here during free agency that you really like. Uh. I
think the Bills, UH, if you if you look at
(01:42:22):
the way that the contracts are structured out with their
wide receivers, they they've got John Brown and Cole Beasley.
There are basically one year deals, uh, with a little
bit of of dead money. If they decided to cut
him now, I would have liked them to get maybe
like a bigger receiver, considering Josh Allen's is often inaccurate
his passes. But you have a guy that can can
blaze and Brown who Allen cannot overthrow. You a guy
(01:42:44):
like Cole Beasley, who Dak Prescott said, uh is always
open if you watch the film, he was underappreciated, undervalued.
In Dallas, they had a couple offensive linemen that are
really solidified that offensive line. So they've done a fabulous
job of preparing. Uh. You know, they're a fense around
Josh Allen. I thought the Chiefs with with Matthew for
the value they got in that contract, what he can do,
(01:43:05):
and more important as a leader, because they lost Barry
and Houston. That was a good picked up any pass
rushers though, And I like, look, I know the matters
of the pay a lot for Ford Ford, but I
think in that in that defense, what he can do. Um,
if they add botha with the second pick they have
were in the better defensive line national football. There's a
couple of moves that cursed out to me. Okay, So
(01:43:27):
Levian Bell goes to the Jets, and there's been a
lot of talk of he got a lot less money
than he thought he would get and blah blah blah.
What's more interesting to me is from your perspective, Jeff
is an offensive linement. He has a very unique style
and Pittsburgh had adapted to that style where he'll get
to the line of scrimmage and he'll just kind of
wait for a second and find the whole like he
(01:43:47):
is not to get it and just go, you know.
And he's not a one cut guy either, like he's
a he can catch it. There's a lot of different
things he can do. Um, how does that work with
how the Jets play football? Well, let's something I'm interested
to find out. And you're right about all that the
Jets traded for for um for ko the left guard
of the Raiders, and he's a big moler type. He
(01:44:08):
fits what what Bell does well as far as what
the Steels have done right, just kind of big, big
old offensive linement that move vertically, uh not so much horizontally.
But the issue is that Adam Gates there there O C.
I mean their head coach or the O C two. Uh,
you know, he's he's a much more multiple run game.
He'll run a lot of zone which Pittsburgh almost never did,
(01:44:28):
and you have to be more of a decisive runner.
I'm not saying Bell can't be, but we've seen that's
not really who he is until he finds a hole
and he gets going. So I'm actually when when I
saw him as a free agent. Of course, the money
is what it is, but I'm I'm actually interested to
see how he does. I don't think he'll be as good.
I really don't. Um. He's such a unique running style
(01:44:48):
that's really unparallel, and he massed up perfectly with the
Steers off the line and all a three thirty. They're
massive humans and it works well when you double team
a bunch of guys, you can hide behind that those
those big fellows. The Jets just aren't built quite the same,
so I don't think he'll be the same player. Doug
gotlip show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, who's your
(01:45:10):
favorite to win the n c A Tournament? Oh, I
have no idea. I'm I've had some issues with it
with uh, with with March madness. It's been it's been
a rough, a rough couple of weeks. But I guess
Zion is healthy. The duke. I mean, they're probably gonna
I think they blow out in North Carolina tonight. Did
they blow him out? I think, well, what's the blow?
Ten points? Is that blow in college basketball? No blowouts?
(01:45:32):
Blow bloo? It's like bloo. It's like one of those
things like I don't know exactly what it is, but
I know when I see it blow outs fifteen plus? Okay,
So I think they beat him. Buy a good how
about good margin? Eight to ten points? Tonight? Was Zion?
That would be surprising that that would be surprised. Now
it should be pointed out that uh that that Kobe White,
(01:45:55):
who's a tremendous town as a score at point guard,
is not a troop. You know, he can in over
a bunch and Trey Jones will get into him. The
The issue I have with Duke is like they really
have three scores and that's it, you know. And North
Carolina's style is they're gonna test your depth. They're gonna push.
We everybody knows they pushed in transition. They're gonna play fast. Um,
(01:46:17):
I think it's gonna be fantastic to watch and I
but I do think that Duke wins the game. But
I don't you know, I'm I'm I'm interested as anybody
to see it. Um, Yes, yes, two and a hook
I would take. I would take the dukeys, although some
of that is I wonder, I wonder how much of
that is a knee jerk till last night and Zion
(01:46:38):
how well he played. I think it's already. I think
it's already up to me three and half or fourth
I got in two and a half. I'll take it. Yeah,
that's a that's a that's a crazy, crazy, crazy three
miles from my house. Should I go down there tonight
at nine o'clock and go see it? Yeah, I would
go do it if you can get a good seed.
I mean I wouldn't sit up I mean I'd never
sit up high ever ever, ever, like you can get down,
(01:47:00):
like do you need me to you need me to
send a couple of texts? You need me to get
to hook you up. You can watch Network and Fox
Sports Radio. And you're a former you know, a former
pro with the Panthers, like and you're a large dude.
You can't honestly, you put on a suit and throw
on like throwing like a computer bag and just be
like walking that, you know, walking the entrance where everybody
(01:47:22):
who's covering the game walks in and just goes, yeah,
I'm working the game. They'll they'll just go like shirt
either that or you can put on like a yellow
jacket and you could be like a security guy and
people would buy that one too. I'll figure on my
office tonight. I got a lot of time to figure
it out. Yeah, I'm I'm generally a watch it on
TV guy. That's generally what I believe. Um, but in
(01:47:45):
this particular, like, yeah, I think you'd want to watch
I think you want to go watch Zion and go
see kind of kind of what it's uh, what what
it's like? I mean just you know, say one time
I saw that kid in college, you know whatever he
becomes so oftentimes like ever he becomes as a pro
defines who he is as a person. You're like, yeah, well,
what if I just kind of want to go see
(01:48:07):
a kid play and see it at eighteen years old
what he was like, and try and figure out what
he's gonna be like three years old, Right, I think
that's kind of a reasonable, reasonable way to think about.
What's what's interesting about that one is there's a kid
on the other side that you knows here little, who
people believe will be a top five, top ten pick,
and he has not had nearly the season of Zion Williams,
(01:48:29):
and he's he's basically stuck behind Luke may who's like
the consummate almost pro college player, does all the right things,
and to see a little is a fantastic athlete. But
you'll see you You'll be able to see like you
sit down there and you watch, like, Okay, I see
why one guy's the number one pick and another guy
is gonna be the number seven, eight ten pick. That's
(01:48:49):
the that's the huh why you do? Why is the
NBA draft feels like it's more drat to more potential,
and the NFL draft, guys are drafted like what they
can do now because they've been in college for three years.
I mean, you know, I mean that's the flow. Like look,
if if you asked the NBA front office people, they
(01:49:10):
were like, look, we they should stay two in three
so we can kind of figure out who they are.
But you know, I have, I have. This is an
interesting one for you. I gotta. I got a buddy
who was in the NBA. It was like, hey, did
you notice that the magic started winning when Mo Bamba
got shut down? I was like, that's interesting because you
can't win no matter how talented a guy is. Upside wise,
(01:49:30):
if you play a young kid, you're not gonna win games,
just not, you know, I mean like the rare like
Lebron is the exception, not the rule. Is exception everything
not the rule. So so what what ends up happening
is um, you know, you end up you you draft
on potential though, because you know people missed on Kobe,
(01:49:52):
people missed on you know, you kind of go through
the list of guys that you know, it's the old
Jermaine Jones couldn't play his first two years in the
league and then was a when there was an All Star.
So but there's been a lot of guys that they
have taken that they think on potential and they never
come into their own I like the I like the
NFL idea because it is it's also a shortened window.
You don't play us long in the league. But you've
(01:50:13):
had three years to figure out who somebody is, backed
up for a year, starter for a year, All league
for a year, and now we draft you. We know
who you are. They don't really know who they are
in college basketball, so you get you gotta It's like
Jaren Jackson last year with Michigan State, Like, yeah, I
kind of think eventually he will be and I think
the Grizzlies actually nailed it. But since I look, um,
(01:50:35):
all right, last thing, how hard is the Kyler Murray
thing for an offensive lineman? So you know Oklahoma, his
office one is huge Oklahoma. So I'm not sure it's
a concern because of that, it's used to it. But second,
the shotgun ethan shotgun. It doesn't matter as much. Um,
when you're done under center, are they gonna be a
(01:50:56):
terrible concern? Um? I think part of the issue him
it's not really his his hype, but his weight. I
mean he is he is two oh five barely. I
mean he's got to put weight on and b two
oh five, So that that, to me is more of
a concern than anything else. I think it high will
be fine. I think I think Arizona will take him
at one. He'll be in that offense and he'll love it. Um.
(01:51:17):
I mean, why why is shotguns so much? Are you
snap it and those guys all stand up? You still
can't see? You still can't throw over the middle right? No?
He I think no, you can. It's easier to you know,
if you're in a three step drop at a at
a at of under center right, you you hit your
third step, you throw the ball and you kind of
know like where it sort of has to go. If
you're a shotgun and you can see the whole picture
(01:51:39):
in front of you, so you don't have to adjust
to where you're throwing the ball based off the protection,
it's easier to do because you you're quote three step
drop is like a hitch step. I can see everything
in front of me and then throw the ball. If
you're if you're going out of under center, you're not
really you're not looking like sat to the left under center.
You're not looking to the left, you're basically just dropping back,
planting and throwing, assuming that things are gonna work out well. Well,
(01:52:02):
now in shotgun you don't have to do that. You
can see everything in front of you. So I didn't
allow Ushim the opportunity to just kind of pick the
window and where he's throwing us from in Oklahoma. Those
guys are ginormous. They had no had no problems with
that and ou awesome stuff. SWARTZI thanks so much for
joining us. Uh, I'd love to see what which is
(01:52:22):
how to do, whether you couch it or you go
down to the arena and check it out. Give us
your feedback. Onere little and on Zion Willimson, thanks so
much for joining us. Oh, I will do good. That's
that's Jeff Schwartz from the Action Network and of course
Fox Sports Radio, longtime NFL lineman who's the second best
lineman in his own family. We kid because we care.
(01:52:42):
Coming up next, speaking of of his brother, Mitchell Ryan
used to block for Kareem Hunt. I'll give you my
thoughts on the Kareem Hunt suspension which came down from
the NFL. That's all part of the biggest stories of
the day in the press. So I gotta leave Shallow.
You're on you ort to catch live editions of The
Doug Dot Leap Show weekdays at noon eastern three pm Pacific.

Stuck got leave show here at Fox Sports Trading on
a Friday. Man, it's gonna be a great weekend. Selection
Sunday is upon us. Here's what I do. Okay, we're
gonna get to the press and then I'm gonna give you.
I'll give you a one secret about Selection Sunday that
(01:53:47):
I think I'm the only one out there on earth
that that is willing to share, right because I used
to be on the show on them not now, and
none of those guys have a national radio show. All right, kid,
we'll get to that. Let's get to Dan Buyer with
the press the press. Doug, I have a secret about
(01:54:07):
the n C Double A Tournament that I think people
don't know. I believe that CBS sets up one region
to be their TV region. So they have the Jim
Nance crew with rafteree at Grant Hill. That that is
the the blue bloods are in that. So you're gonna
see a region where you're gonna have like North Carolina, Kentucky,
(01:54:28):
and Kansas all in the same region. Because they don't
want to get stunk with a stinker on the in
the Elite eight or a Sweet sixteen weekend. They want
to put a bunch of blue kids. It's a good hypotheses,
it's not. Now look here. Here is actually the way
it works. So they have eight crews doing games, eight sites,
eight crews doing games, and the turner crews are pre
(01:54:52):
selected based upon the cities. There are certain cities that
are that they'll go like, hey, that's a that's a
crew and the the Nance Grant Hill Bill Raftery team
will followed wherever Duke is, that's where they will be.
They will whatever the number one um, you know, or
maybe maybe can maybe on some years of Kentucky. But
(01:55:12):
outside of that, no, I do not believe they actually
have a say in the bracketing and how that happens.
Don't believe. I'll tell you what. I will have information
Sunday on Fox Sports Radio and a special selection show
show with Nick, Bob and myself. Yeah, I like it,
all right, I like it. I like Nick. I like Nick.
A great deal, he's awesome. Okay, let's let's get to
(01:55:34):
the press. What you got? Not shocking that Ryan Tannehill
was traded, but he gets to go to the Tennessee Titans. Today,
Brown's running back Kareem Hunt suspended eight games for violating
the league's personal conduct policy. I think this is appropriate. Like, listen,
anything beyond eight games. He lost his gig last year
in Kansas City, and now he suspended two more games
(01:55:54):
than than the minimum, and this was for a prior offense. Like, look,
do I think it makes him there? This guy on earth? Like, no,
this is a a dude. This is the punishment. It's
almost double jeopard to be just suspended after you got
cut last year. But okay, I think this is reasonable.
The league having their say after the team the fans
had their say, and now you know, if you screw
(01:56:14):
up again, you're gonna be out of the league for life.
I actually think though I would never lay a hand
on a woman. Um, I actually think like every crime
has a level of punishment, and this is a reasonable
level of punishment. And if you compare it to punishments
of the past when guys got you know, people forget
when um why am I forgetting? What's the running back
(01:56:37):
from the Ravens ray Rice Ray Rice is original suspension
of two games that was actually the longest suspension anybody
ever gotten for domestic violence. Like that's how much we
have at least come around to like, hey, you know
this is a problem and we need to punish guys
for it. So yeah, I think it's about right. The
Raiders are gonna play in Oakland for the nineteen season,
(01:56:59):
not a huge super eyes, but the lease for the Oakland,
Alameda County Colosseum was approved. The deal also includes an
option for if needed. This feels like one of those
bands that this is the last tour ever and you're like,
wait a second, whenn't the last tour the last? Whoever? Like, no, no,
this is when like how many times they had a
(01:57:19):
final game in Oakland, Like two years ago there was
a kind of a final game. Last year there's a
final game, and this year there'll be a final game.
The whole thing is just bizarre to me. But part
of it is it's it's a lot harder to move
a team, especially in place like Vegas that has no
They don't have and and I actually like what the
Raiders are doing. They're not gonna do the soft launch
and we go to when we go to Vegas. We
(01:57:40):
want the real state and to be done. The Raiders,
by the way, are having a wide receiver named Nelson
on their team next year, not Jordi who was cut yesterday.
J J. Nelson comes over from Arizona. How about this?
I mean I said he's Dino mite. Is that too
daily reference? I don't think so. I think that's great.
I think you know, anytimes he can put j J
(01:58:00):
and and use uh Jimmy Walker a good times reference. Yeah,
it's fine by me. Lebron James A no go tonight,
gonna sit out against the Pistons, second day of a
back to back. They played in Toronto. Last night was
a Toronto last night, right, and then there's the do
you see the video of him we'll be in touch
Tokai Leonard? I didn't. I had heard about it. I
(01:58:21):
didn't see the video, but I saw it on Twitter.
Here's the thing. People are gonna make a big deal
out of them will be in touch. What they should
make a big deal is is there was no like
affirmation from Kauai. Yeah, man, call me, hit me up.
There wasn't any of that. It was that we'll be
in touch. And he kind of got blown off by Kauai.
But who knows. You never know. Like this whole rhetoric
of Kauai doesn't want to be a Laker, doesn't want
(01:58:43):
to you know, doesn't. Well we'll see, Um, well, we'll
see how that works out. It's gonna be interesting. Chris
paula no go tonight. He's gonna rest against the Phoenix Suns. Yeah,
I mean take it when you could get it. Yeah,
I mean. Look, look, Chris paul being hurt in the
playoffs is a tale as old as time. He's gotta
be right, He's gotta be right. Um, so I I
(01:59:05):
understand it. I'm fascinated to see how this how this
Houston team evolves once you get to the playoffs. Obviously,
losing to the Warriors a couple of nights ago without
KD that one hurt. DeMarcus Cousins played his best game
as a Warrior. But you know, Chris Paul's health his
paramount if Houston wants any chance to take down the Warriors.
And finally, dug a Tiger Woods was one of us today.
(01:59:26):
Two in the drink on the par three seventeenth that
TPC saw Grass a quadruple bogey seven. Tiger is still
gonna make the cut at minus three though at the
players Two in the drink really yeah yeah, first one
off the tea, then in the drop zone went long
again and uh yeah. Then uh he's like me because
you know I'm long, like the Lemma like like like
(01:59:48):
the like the lemma weather picking up buy our golf
for you this weekend or you just watching hoops. I
know you have your Sunday show. Yeah yeah, I'll try
to mix in a little between the hoops and a
birthday party. I gotta go too on Saturday, so I'll
try to mix it all in that stand by or
in the press. It out there and pressed, that was
the press all right, So I'll leave you with this.
Um yeah, look, I share with you guys things probably
(02:00:13):
I shouldn't or don't have to share, but I'll share there.
There's this gonna be this weird thing that I've experienced. Now,
this is my second Sunday experience where you're not on
the selection show and you're watching people perform a job
that you just perform, and um, like my ego's flowing on.
I thought it was pretty good on it, but I
remember so often times in doing it, like you have
(02:00:36):
the bracket and you're so super excited, So you get
the bracket m probably fifteen minutes before the show, maybe
a little bit depends upon the year. Some one year
we got it like right as the show is starting.
One year we got it probably an hour before the
hour before the show. Clark Kellogg never gets never sees
the bracket until it appears before him. You don't want
(02:00:58):
to see it, you want to know it. Seth was
like me, we wanted to get it beforehand. Jot down
a note or two. Um, So I think it's it
is absolutely fascinating, fascinating to see what happens, what happens
when live TV takes places to me. I loved getting
(02:01:21):
the bracket and trying to figure out what interesting thing
I could say about which games I could hop in on.
But to me, what you know? So much of it's
gonna come down to styles and health and who's actually
playing well. And though some teams have played poorly heading
into the tournament and had good tournaments, like I look
(02:01:42):
at a VCU that had a major injury earlier today
and I'll tell you this goes back to I think
Minnesota one time had a bad injury. It's like my
first year doing it. You can pick games you you
kind of perused to find out who had an injury
to a starter the last game of their conference tournament
and pick against that team in the first game, and
(02:02:04):
ninety five percent of the time it feels like you
win because you just you can't adjust on the fly.
At this point in time in the season. You are
who you are. But there is there's a couple of
feelings in broadcasting which are amazing, and the feeling of
being in a chair where you feel like everybody is
in fact watching. They may not be listening to all
the words coming out in your mouth, but everybody is watching.
(02:02:26):
It's really really powerful. Cool thing to have at some
point in time in your life. So best eluct to
the guys over uh at CBS for that. We will
react to it. I'll be doing a show on Stadium
Sports that will be running you know, online on Twitter
and Facebook right afterwards kind of give you all the
breakdown and some smart analysis. We can kind of go forever,
me and Jeff Goodman, Christin Balboni, and then I'll be
(02:02:48):
on all our show and all the shows on Monday
trying to help you win your bracket and we'll have
some funds March Badness. Obviously, this football stuff this week
has helped us fill the void. In the meantime, have
a great weekend. This is the Dougout theme show.
