On a fantastic Friday, as The Sweet six teen wraps up.
I love these days, just like we love the Thursday
and Friday of last week. There's something about having games
going on and then knowing that there's another game going
on as well. But this is the last time we're
gonna get that because after tonight we'll be down to
(00:42):
the Elite eight and then it's just individual games throughout
for the n C Double A Tournament. And last night
there was some overlap with what was happening in the
West Region and Anaheim. You had Gonzega against Florida State.
Then when that game wrapped up, many people turned their
attention to what was happening in Louisville, Kentucky as Purdue
(01:03):
in Tennessee. And in fact, I'll say this, I know
Gonzaga and Florida State, and seemed like the Bulldogs kind
of kept them at bay. You were in Anaheim last
night checking out that sweet sixteen action, the way that
Tennessee made their comeback, made that must see TV. And
for the entire second half and then the overtime of
that contest, you just you couldn't look away. I almost
(01:23):
think that Gonzaga Florida State maybe got lost in the
shuffle a little bit. Yeah, And the crazy thing is
Gonzaga Florida State in real time was a crazy game.
Gonzaga with an eleven point lead at halftime, Florida State
cutting it to four with four minutes to go. But
it never felt like Florida State could get that one stop,
that one moment to keep them in the game or
(01:44):
to get them over the hump. And so then naturally
everybody turned their attention to Purdue Tennessee. I will tell
you this, everybody in the arena between games was fixated
on that game. You know. It's funny, Dan, because I
think there were some technical difficulties out in Anaheim, because well,
they pushing back the start time of the second game
in Anaheim, Texas Tech Michigan, and I'm just sitting there
(02:06):
assuming that it's it's a you know, it's the bad
phone from CBS saying we want all of our our
audience on this this Tennessee Purdue game. It turned out
there were technical difficulties, but I thought they keep pushing
this game back. It's because, oh, by the way, they
want everybody focused on this produce Tennessee game for right now.
I know many people would like technical difficulties with my mike,
but it's not gonna happen. It's going to be with
(02:27):
you the next three hours. And it was the ending
of last night's perdue Tennessee game in regulation that stood out.
Here's how it sounded on Westwood. Want the basketball has
handed decline right now. He's looking, he's looking, he has
no timeouts. He's having trouble pros. It's to Edwards. Edwards
free in the clutter. No, but there's a foul. They
called the foul on Tennessee and Carson Edwards. It's gonna
(02:51):
have free free throws with one point seven remaining. To
give you a little behind the scenes. Prior to the show,
I had walked in about two minutes prior to this
story starting, and I was talking with our executive producer,
Ryan Music, and I said, I just don't know how
people could think that that wasn't a foul. And then
immediately after I said that, Aaron Torres walked in, has
(03:13):
that been in the studio for about a hundred and
twenty seconds and says, I don't know how in the
world you can call that a follow Last night, you
are all for team nonfoul on that play. Embraced debate,
UH controversy ensues here in the Fox Sports radio studio.
So my stance on this whole situation, and we're gonna
break it down from a million different angles, is I
(03:35):
don't think that the foul call is the only reason
why Tennessee lost the game. It reminded me a lot
of Saints Rams the past interference which came back into
light again this week. There were many reasons why Tennessee
lost this game, including missing half of their fallow shot,
shooting fifty from the free throw line. Ryan Klein has
(03:55):
the career night. I just know that LaMonte Turner the
play from Tennessee who quote unquote and I you I'm
using air quotes because it wasn't a real foul. He
allegedly committed the foul. I just know he jumped, he
moved his body to avoid Carson Edwards. All of a sudden,
Carson Edwards foot magically graze as LaMonte Turner. I just
(04:17):
think it's one of those we shouldn't encourage offensive players
to do stuff like that, and so to me, I
would have preferred to be a nolle. This is where
I think, as you you're looking at the play and
you're looking overall like Carson Edwards body the way that
he was turning, that's how you take a jump shot.
There are different leg kicks that we've seen in the
NBA a bunch of times, and usually there to the
(04:41):
left or to the right. This was just a movement
of Carson Edwards of swinging through and taking the shot,
and I thought LaMonte Turner got him on the hip.
Like I I didn't think that there was any debate,
and I don't think that there's any debate, And that
is a call that you have to make in that situation,
especially considering how my the three point shot is a
(05:01):
part of this game. This isn't This isn't a forty
foot shot. This is a a shot from the corner
that is going to decide it. And if you hit
the guy like he body checked him with his hip,
it's an obvious foul. Rick Barnes, even the Tennessee coach,
admitted that it was a foul after after the ball,
Rick Barnes hurting. My argument here, you know, I was
in Anaheim. I didn't see that Rick Barnes was came
(05:22):
to came to Dan Buyers. It was a foul. Quote,
it was a foul. He missed the shot, but LaMonte
hit him after the shot. Well, LaMonte Turner disagrees, and
I'm team LaMonte Turner here on this one. No listen.
I think it was a bang bang play. I think
it could have gone either way. I just like to me,
(05:44):
I just sit here and I say, you know, a
player is allowed kind of verticality. And he jumped at
Carson Edwards. I'm trying to re enact this in real
time in my mind. He jumped at Carson Edwards. But
as soon as Carson Edwards turned his body, LaMonte Turner
turned his body. And you know my thing is is
(06:05):
that you know, as soon as the play happened. But
here's the thing, The other thing too, is you reference
the file, but the ball was well out of his
hand before any physical contact happen. Follow follows happened on,
follow throughs all the time they happened on. He hip
checked him last night and has to be made. That's
(06:25):
an aggressive that's an aggressive verbiage of hip check. I mean,
you know this isn't throwing somebody in the boards on
the ice hockey rink here. I mean it was. It
was more of a hip graze than a hip check.
But if you see Carson Edwards body moved back from
the contact, but Carson Edwards also turned his hips into
him part of the shot, Like that's how you that's
(06:47):
how you shoot. That's how you shoot. You go straight
up and then turn your hips. You're a right handed shooter.
Your right side of your body is forward, it's not
your left side. You're not your your right hip is
ahead of your left hip. And that's where Carson Edwards was.
So there's obvious contact there. It's not him throwing it out.
It's the nature of a shot. So do we want
(07:09):
to talk about the push off to start the play
that allowed him to get that half an inch of
open space? I mean to me hand jostling. That was well,
that's sir. If that's hand jostly, then I don't see
a hip check. By the way, we're watching this in
real time, but I'm sure everyone's seen the replay. My
whole thing is it's bang bang, there's push. You know,
it's like holding in past interference are holding in football?
(07:31):
You can call everything on everybody. I mean, Carson Edwards
right there, shoves off, he's going straight up, turns his hips.
I I think it could have been a perfectly fine
no call. Let me ask you a question, because we're
already off the rails here. If that had been a
no call, do you think it's a bigger controversy that
the call was made. Do you think we would have
an equally big controversy if there was no call in
(07:53):
that moment last night? I disagree. If there was no call,
there's no opportunity for either team to reset like now
with with this call. It as Carson Edwards ends up
making two of three, because that would be a part
of it. We go to over time and you just
say to yourself, Okay, well, now they've got an opportunity
(08:15):
to to put this thing away. They both have chances
you reference the NFC Championship game. One of the reasons
why there wasn't sympathy for the Saints is because the
Saints actually one the the coin toss in overtime and
had the ability to go down and score, but Drew
Brees through the interception on the tip ball, which allowed
the Ramps to them take over and kicked the field
(08:37):
goal well, and that was why I opened with what
I said is that there are reasons outside of of
this one play why Tennessee lost the game. And it
sounds really weird and counterintuitive to say that the call
uh cost Tennessee the game, because if there's no call,
the shot goes off and they win the game in regulation.
I think the call cost Tennessee the game, but it's
(08:59):
not the re reason why they lost the game. Another
reason why they lost the game. Ryan Klein went seven
of ten from three Tennessee went fourteen of twenty eight
from the foul line. There are reasons Tennessee lost the game,
not to do with this play, but they it did
cost them the game. If there's anybody that has a
natural leg kick in their shot, it's Ryan Klein. I
(09:20):
mean he's making I mean he's making a c as
he's shooting and following deals. You didn't think LaMonte Turner
committed a foul. Neither did Turner as he spoke with
the media following last night's lost to Produe in the
Sweet sixth team going a shooter, you want to contest shot.
He was kicking his leg out all night, so if
he kicks his leg out, I can't contest the shot.
(09:41):
You know, I've been talking to Rim about that. Last
play the game, he kicks his lego. I tried to
contest a shot in his leg made contact with me,
contact with me, and they call a foul. So I
don't understand what I'm supposed to do. You know, that
was the call and didn't decide the game, but you
know we lost an over time, So this is one
of those to me, Dan, this is so fascinating, you
know how like those pictures where it's like one of
(10:03):
those optical illusions and like you see a bird, but
I see a turtle, and we just see a completely
different white dress, blue dress. Yeah, that's a great example,
gold whatever, like yeah, whatever it was. Yeah, this I
can't believe that we're looking at the same video and
have completely different interpretations. And I know we're an audio
medium and people don't have the video in front of them,
(10:23):
but I encourage people to go back because I think
they'll see what me and LaMonte Turners. Well, let me
point this out to you. And for those of you
that watched the game last night, you saw Lamente Turner
jumped towards Carson Edwards. Carson Edwards is is in his
shooting motion, but LaMonte Turner was not vertical. When you
look at the video of where LaMonte Turner jumped and
(10:45):
where he landed, and in the radio studio, we've got
the ability to look LaMonte Turners inside the three point
line when he ends up landing from his jump to
Carson Edwards, he is almost at the sideline. So there
is no verdic cality either. He is going at Carson Edwards.
So when you're talking when when he is talking about
(11:06):
kicking his feet out as Edwards did, his feet may
have been out, But one of the reasons that LaMonte
Turner came in contact with him is because LaMonte Turner
jumped three feet from inside the three point line to
almost the sideline baseline corner. See this is one where
you know I'm I'm I do apologize to our listeners
out there, the thousands of people across the country that
(11:27):
that we're watching a video that they might not be
able to. But I just I look at it like
he said, you have to be able to contest a
game winning shot. Carson Edwards turns his hips as if
he's on the salsa dance floor, and then he kicks
his leg out like to me, I get that a
shooter has to have room to shoot, but I also
think that we shouldn't reward offensive players for creating contact.
(11:49):
And I think he created the contact. So your point
earlier was about if this is this a bigger deal
if it is not called, why do you think that
this is a bigger deal than if the ref would
have swallowed the way? No, I I didn't know. I
think you could make a case that it's equally as big.
I don't think it's an egregious like you know, I don't.
I'm trying to remember if there's been a game in
(12:10):
the tournament, there haven't been very many close ones where
there's just an egregious call that they just swallow the whistle.
I don't think this is egregious one way or the other.
And what do we always say is if it's not
super obvious, let the players decided on the court or
the field hold to us. When Tennessee had to fend
(12:30):
off Iowa from that comeback, Jordan Bohannan was fouled on
a play that he wasn't fouled on what they called
the three point shot, and the foul was called on
La Monte Turner, Mr innocent man. Maybe he should have
learned his lesson from that that Sunday game of Hey,
calls are gonna whether they're follows or not, calls are
gonna be made. They made that call which was not
(12:51):
a foul against him in that Iowa game last night.
I think it was in the sweet sixteen and Tennessee
at five extra minutes to figure it out, and it
didn't work out for him. And I'll tell you this
and and that's why, although I think it was a
bad call, although I think Tennessee should have won in regulation,
you can't, like LaMonte Tourney even said you can't blame
(13:12):
this one play on why Tennessee lost. They went about
six minutes in the first half without scoring a single basket.
They as I've said, a couple of times Abou fourteen
twenty from the foul line, and they didn't have they
didn't close in overtime. So I do think this costs
them the game, but it's not necessarily the only reason
why they didn't win. I'm gonna throw up the video.
(13:33):
Gene sterrator, who was on the call for the Let's
get in here aspect for CBS Sports last night, I
retweeted his tweet. You can find it at Dan Buyer
on Fox. You can find Aaron Torres at Aaron Underscore
Torres and that's a a r o N. It is
underscore Torres, and foul or not a foul is the
debate that it's going to go on. I'm just surprised.
(13:54):
I really thought you were to go in and be like,
good call by the raf um and you know, the
funny thing is, and I'm sure we'll talk about this
over three hours. I'm not to blame the refs guy,
Like I didn't think the refs cost Central Florida on Sunday.
I don't think they cost Tennessee. I just would have
preferred that they just make a non call. Be sure

weekdays at noon Eastern three pm Pacific on Fox Sports
(14:17):
Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Last night, the
Milwaukee Bucks gotta win over the l A Clippers, Milwaukee
almost cementing their spot atop the Eastern Conference, now four
game edge on the Raptors with six games to go
in the NBA's regular season almost all but wrapped up.
But last night almost was a huge loss for Milwaukee,
(14:39):
and it comes in the form of Jannas and Teta Coompo, who,
after making a bucket, is running back on defense, bumps
in the Garrett Temple of the Clippers and then steps
out his foot awkwardly spraining his ankle. Jannest did not
return to the game. But this is a Bucks team
that's already dealing with injuries and to have one to
their m VP candidates in the top two m VP
(15:00):
candidate right now would be severely damaging for the Milwaukee
Bucks and Aaron. This is what happened last night. This
is the reason. We can talk about fatigue, and we
can talk about rest, but one of the things that
we don't talk about when players are sitting out and
what almost are meaningless games, our instances like this, and
I think that if any NBA team is going to
(15:22):
hear crap from the commissioner's office about not playing their
guys as they're sitting up there in the standings of
of the Western Conference or Eastern Conference can point to
this specific instance on why you want to be careful
with your pieces heading into the playoffs because this could
have been catastrophic for the Milwaukee Bucks on just an
innocent play in last dance game against the Clips. So
(15:44):
I don't know that I necessarily disagree. Let me ask
you a question, though, I mean, we can always in
hindsight with something like this, um, you know, claim that
this is why things are the way they are. But
has there been in recent time, like a major injury
that has happened at this time of year, like or
are we overreacting to this because it happened to happen,
you know. It's like it's like just like as an example, right,
(16:07):
I was, No, this is I don't think that there
has been, and I think that that has allowed the
n b A two send a message or at least
have have let's let's have these guys play more, because look,
that's one of the odds or something like this is
going to happen. Then all of a sudden, you see
what happened last night and not even a basketball play.
(16:28):
It's just you're not looking, you step on a guy's
foot and you turn your ankle and he didn't even
turn it, and it was almost like he jammed his
ankle last night. But this is, this, to me, gives
ammunition and it's it's because maybe there hasn't been that
there's been more a groundswell of of saying like, yeah,
why aren't these guys playing your guys back in the
day played you know, eighty two games. This is a
(16:49):
perfect reason why for a Milwaukee Bucks organization that needs
their m v P and it needs to make some
noise with the team that's capable of making a run
to the finals. Yeah, this is one where I actually
kind of see both sides because as like I do
think that I've never had a problem with these guys
sitting out games and getting rest because, as the Warriors
have taught us, as the Calves, when Lebron taught us,
(17:11):
it's not about being a number one seed having the
best regular season record, It's about getting into the playoffs healthy.
I also don't know that, like I want to use
this as an example of proof that that like Adam
Silver has no business like getting in the middle of
this because I think it's the exception of the rule,
because I can't think of another instance off top of
my head where somebody has gotten severely hurt, and like, like,
(17:34):
like my general philosophy on sports is if there's an exception,
we we shouldn't be changing I know it's a big
thing with Doug, Like, we shouldn't be changing rules for
the exception, right, And so like Trevor Lawrence is an
awesome football player at Clemson. He's once in a lifetime.
We shouldn't like, we shouldn't just allow guys to leave
after their freshman year because Trevor Lawrence is awesome when
(17:55):
none of these other guys are ready. And so to me,
like if Adam Silver has a tenure track record of well,
we really have no proof that these guys need the
extra rest. I have no problem with him calling and saying, like,
we can't have everybody sitting out all these what do
you think is better business for the NBA? Oh no,
of it's Janice being healthy in the playoffs instead of
these final two months where I mean with the with
(18:18):
the broadcast deal that CBS did with Turner Sports. I mean,
there wasn't There was no T n T broadcast last
night because they're so focused on the n C Double
A Tournament and and really and in a lot of times,
the NBA, I don't gets lost is not the term,
but the n C Double A tournament takes the forefront.
So when we're sitting there looking at how things are
playing out, the Warriors don't care what seed they are.
(18:40):
There are teams that are battling for a position at
the bottom. But you could have lost a a huge,
huge star for the for a playoff round or two
if this injury is a little bit more serious. And
I just think that if the NBA were to come
to a team and say, hey, we you know, we
don't like how you're doing just point today and be like, okay,
(19:01):
what about it? What's the alternative If this happened to
Kwhi Leonard, or this happened to Kevin Durant, or this
happened to anybody else. That's just the point that I
look at is it did happen last night, And this
was the whole reason of of why I mean, I'm
trying to think of parallels of what happened. I mean,
we always had tornado watches growing up. We would always
go to the seller. Well a lot of times there
(19:23):
were just watches. There were no warnings, but all of
a sudden the time that maybe you don't, all of
a sudden there is like that's what we're getting here
and that and that's what I think of, Like, yeah,
it's maybe the exception, but this is what could happen
in a catastrophic situation. But like you said, it was
a random occurrence. It wasn't on basketball injury. So where
do you draw the line if the Bucks randomly give off?
(19:44):
You know, this could have happened in the eighth game
of the season in November, Like are we supposed to
like put Janice around bubble rap or oh, you know
he's playing this team tonight, we gotta give him the
night off? Like to me, um, like I actually think
it it like it has no relevance to what Adam
Silver said, Like I get your point, but I also
just feel like this could have happened at any point.
(20:06):
So the only reason we're talking about is because it
happened to happen right now. And and what is the
reason that We always talk about rest. It's because guys
want to be ready for the playoffs and they want
to make sure that they're fresh or fresh or the
Lakers don't want to have, you know, Lebron put more miles.
We never talk about freak injuries because you're right, they
(20:26):
don't happen, but last night it almost did. And that
would be the reason above anything else. It's why guys
don't play quarterback in week seventeen when you've clinched a
playoff spot. It's not because you want them to rest up.
You don't want your quarterback to get sacked and bust
his leg and hurt his knee. Like that's why you
sit guys out. And that's why I think last night
in the n b A, this is what happened, and
and the Bucks loss, maybe the other twenty nine teams
(20:49):
gain because they can just point to the situation. Be
sure to catch live editions of the Doug Dot Leaps
Show weekdays in noon eastern three pm Pacific. Say and
Doug was sitting in for Colin Cowhard on The Herd
on Fox Sports Radio and on Fox Sports One, addressing
a report that some NFL executives are afraid that Antonio
(21:11):
Brown has now set a precedent with his actions this
soft season. Here's Doug's thought on this idea. If you
think that NFL owners and executives are like, hey, this
is awesome, we need to we need to really plan
for this, protect ourselves from players. The way to protect
ourselves some players is, dude, I don't want to be
paying money for a guy playing for a different team.
(21:31):
Instead of getting longer, contracts are going to get shorter
and more prohibitive in terms of movement. It is a
game of chicken, and Levian Bell was the one guy
who did not blink and he lost four teen million dollars.
He's never gonna make back. Antonio Brown never sat, but
the Steelers were so done with them that they were
willing to take that capit. But I don't think that
helps players in the future. I think that hurts them
(21:54):
in the future. So Doug is saying that this won't
be a president, not only that, it's actually gonna be
worse for those that follow in Antonio Brown's footsteps. Do
you see the same thing happening for those that try
to follower may try to follow what Antonio Brown did. Yeah,
I think it's Antonio Brown is just such an exception
to the rule. For two different reasons. You and I
were talking about this a little before we went on air.
(22:14):
Dan is one, he's so uber talented that, you know,
he is such a hot commodity that there is such
a demand for him in the trade market. But to
what I actually thought was interesting about Antonio Brown, he
refused to let this thing die. He refused to not
get his version of the events out, be at the
Instagram stories, be at the ESPN sit down, whatever, and
(22:37):
so like, I don't know if it's you know, um
a third, you know, the third best wide receiver on
somebody's team, if they really if America really cares why
you're sitting out. So I think Antonio Brown was able
to force his hand because of his talent. I don't
know that other guys can do that. I find it
amazing that Antonio Brown got his way, And I just
(22:57):
don't think just when we're talking about Cowboys a little
bit earlier, about following the rams and how that could
be dangerous, I think I think it would be dangerous
for another player to do this. Into dougas point, I
think that he's right, and I think that You're right,
there aren't enough players in the league at the caliber
of Antonio Brown, let alone in the situation where he
was able to force his hand, and also be in
(23:19):
a situation where a team like the Raiders were willing
to bring him in and a team and give him
the raise, and that the hometown team or the team
that had him also would be willing to bite the
bullet on the salary that they had paid him. So
I think that all of those scenarios together just make
this a one time scenario and it's not gonna play
(23:42):
out if it would happen again. Yeah, And I mean, look,
we always talk about in sports, does the risk out
what what outweigh the reward? Does the talent outweigh the problems?
And so for Antonio Brown, like you said, he can
throw a fit, he can go on Instagram and throw
his ownership under the bus, his quarterback under the bus.
If you know, I'm trying to think of the most
obscure wide receiver I can. If Tavon Austin, it's like
(24:05):
goes on Instagrams like I want to be traded. I
I can't play with deck anymore, we'd be like, yeah,
I don't care Like. Wait, I'll go the other end.
If Julio Jones, who's done a contract situation Atlanta, does that,
it's not the same scenario. It's not in Antonio Brown
was the the one, the one off in all of this.
You like to say the outlier, that's what Antonio Brown was. Well,
(24:28):
that's right, quick point No. I was just gonna say
really quick to there was a very public reason to
not get behind Ben Roethlisberger after his comments as well.

on the program. With everything going on, we can talk baseball,
we can talk college hoops, but we're gonna focus on
the NBA with a good friend from NBA TV, Rick Campbell. Hey, Rick,
good to talk to you again. How are you at, Eric,
Good afternoon, what's up. You know, Rick has sparked my
interest back in fantasy baseball, So yes, yes, he has.
He has done that, and so yesterday I was actively
(25:09):
watching and we'll do so for the next six months.
You know, every day when you're in fantasy baseball. Yeah,
baseball means a lot to you. You get the harrump
from Aaron. Aaron, You're not. You're not feeling a daily
six month grind with all of Major League baseball, are you.
I'll tell you what first fantasy league I ever joined
(25:29):
was basketball. I finished in last place with my college
buddies vowed I will not finish in last place. Finished
in first place in baseball. I took Ryan Howard with
about the fourth or fifth overall pick. He won the
m v P. I think I got Handley Ramirez in
the second round. Uh for what? For one summer I
was John Scherholtz and then it all fell apart after that, Ah,
(25:51):
well you're not me and taking Francisco Lindora and now
wondering about a strained calfe injured ankle. Yeah, second round pick,
riding the the the Pine right now because of an injury. Anyway, Well,
we'll move off a fantasy baseball. Let's get into the NBA.
As we kind of hit this home stretch, Rick, we
talked about that. We addressed the situation last night with
Janice in the Milwaukee Bucks as he hurt his ankle
(26:14):
on what was a completely innocent basically just collision, didn't
see Garrett Temple and steps on his foot awkwardly. My
argument was this is that if any of the other
NBA teams now get flak for resting players down the
stretch or doing different things, this is something that they
can point to and say, hey, we don't want to
(26:35):
lose our star guy for the playoffs. Could this could
this be something that allows the NBA to let resting
go on without any really um I guess penalties or transgressions.
I really think it's case by case Dan in terms
of you know, Janice with with banging the foot and
all that, he's already been uh in and out of
the lineup, in and out of games with the right
(26:55):
ankle injury. So he needs to break. Man. He has
absolutely been uh you know the m v P or
the m v P one A to James Harden uh
with twenty seven points, twelve bore, six rebounds, the blocks
the steel from the floor. He's been unbelievable. He's been
a superhero. So he needs to break clearly, and uh,
(27:16):
you know, and then we talked about this, you know,
Kawhi Leonard, load management, Kyrie Irving, load management, bothers the
crap out of me. I will never be okay with it.
I love the fact that Lebron James is playing. I
know he's not playing in both ends of the back
to back, but he wants to honor the basketball gods.
Bravo Lebron. He wants to play for the fans, for
his team, for stats, uh and all that jab so h. Yeah,
(27:40):
So I'm totally okay if Gianas takes several games off
here to get ready for the playoffs. So earlier this week,
Warriors get smoked by the Mavericks in a game where
Steph Curry rested all that stuff. Obviously, Like in the
small picture, it's not a big deal. But in the
big picture, the Warriors are they just gonna flip a
switch one? Is the playoffs start again? Or is there
(28:01):
any real threat out there? There isn't. Um, sorry to
spoil the suspense, guys, everybody listening on Fox Sports Radio.
I would love you know, I felt that. I felt,
you know not because look Villanova last year in college basketball.
I picked him in every tournament. I just they were
the team they were gonna win it, and they did. Um,
(28:22):
And you know, it's usually more unpredictable in college, but
in the NBA, we know what's up. Man, It's going
to be the Golden State Warriors. When they win this,
it's going to be, Um, how many games do they lose?
You know? Do they go sixteen and oh? Do they
go sixteen and one, sixteen and two, sixteen and three?
That's gonna be the measuring stick, because this is gonna
be four out of five. It's gonna be a three peak.
(28:43):
This is now going to vault this dynasty up there
with the greatest dynasty is in NBA history. And while
I realized that Draymont Green may not be along with
this group, I think Durant is staying. I think Clay
Thompson is staying. Um, I don't know about Bookie Cousins,
but Durant, Clay and Steph three of the top ten
shoot yers of all time. I believe we're gonna stay
together for several more years and add several more championships.
(29:05):
So so real quick, I mean, so much speculation has
been Katie and the Knicks. Um, besides the super obvious
of you have a chance to make history in a
way that really nobody since the Celtics in the sixties
has what is the reason that you're confident Katie'll stay. Um,
I just knowing Katie, He's He's a laid back, humble
guy who made a decision that that did not blow
(29:29):
up in his face. It's been a brilliant decision, but
publicly with reputation, it kind of sort of has blown
up in his face. I don't hold going from okay
See to Golden State against him. Many others do, so
I don't think he wants to deal with that again.
I also think he's having a blast playing with Steff
and Clay and in a Steve curse system. Um, it's
a hunch of educated speculation. I don't have intell on it,
(29:50):
but I believe Duran is staying. Rick Cavilla joining us
here on the Doug Gottlive Show on Fox Sports Radio.
He's here and Torres, I'm Dan Buyer. So how close
is this Rockets team now to the Rockets team that
took the Warriors to seven games last year? Boy? Interesting? Um,
I think I think they're pretty much humming along it
at that clip. Now, you know you don't have Trevor
(30:11):
a reason on this year's team, you had them on
last year's team. There are some other piece a little
bit different, different exactly. You know, you've got Daniel House
doing his thing right now. Eric Gordon obviously is still there.
If the rockets are loaded their deep, they're confident, they're healthy.
Uh you know, and I know Manimal has been in
and out of the line up here a little bit.
(30:32):
He'll be right for the playoffs. I think they're right
back to where they were last year. Um you know,
sixty five wins. Obviously they haven't had that spectacular of
a season, but they've had injuries, they got up to
a slow start and all that stuff. I do think that, Um,
I really go back and forth then between Oklahoma City
with the way they defend, they've got two superstars. The
(30:52):
problems that they present versus the problems that Houston presents
for Golden State, UM, I think both could give Golden
State a pretty good run for their money. So obviously,
the buzz on the college level is about Zion Williamson,
and you know, the ratings have been through the roof.
I mean, Duke games are now must watch in NBA
locker rooms NBA. I mean, obviously we know what he
(31:12):
looks like as a long term NBA prospect, but are
people at the NBA level as engaged and invested in
kind of watching this kid at the college level, as
most of America is. There's no question and uh, you know,
for a couple of years there and the analysts and
I worked with an NBA TV you know, We'll be
in between a segment or something and they'll be on
their phones and like, whoa, look what Zion did, right,
(31:33):
And I'm like, you know, two or three years ago,
like who's this Zion guy? And you know, they would
show me the video and I'm like, that dude is
doing that. You're like, yep, he's six five to eighties
forty five inch b Yeah. I mean fallers talk follers,
no ballers. Like they have been on Zion, uh for
like two or three years, going back to like the
middle of high school for him. So I've been hearing
(31:54):
about Zion from from the analysts. I got my eye
on him obviously a whole bunch this year with um.
The hype is real, guys. He's an absolutely amazing plaire.
Does tonight tell us anything? By the way, Rick Cambella
joining us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Just Tonight's
game with the Celtics home to the Pacers. If Boston wins,
and I know we're playing hypothetically, but this could be
a first round matchup. If Boston wins tonight, does this
(32:15):
tell us that things are maybe back to normal after
their four game sladder. They're still issues in Beantown, Dan,
I know where you're going with this. What what it?
What it will tell me if Boston takes care of
business tonight is that they have the ability to flip
the switch. Because it feels like they've been doing that
all year, right, they flip it, they play great, and
then they turn the switch down and they lose to
(32:36):
a team they shouldn't lose too. So if you can
just flip that switch tonight beat Indiana, you will move
into a virtual tie with them. Boston's one game back
going into tonight. Obviously that's critically. You don't want to
go to the field House in downtown Indie for a
Game seven. You want them to come to t D Garden,
where you will win by twenty five points, because that's
what the Celtics do at home in game seven. So
(32:58):
big game tonight. I believe Boston is gonna rise punch
him in the face and get the win. So he's
talked about flipping a switch on the court for the Celtics,
But what about off the court? I mean, Kyrie with
those kind of weird comments about Kemba Walker the defensive
game plan. Is there that much strife in that locker
room because it just feels weird with Kyrie and he's
(33:19):
got always weird comments and it's just something just doesn't
feel right to me. Off the court, No, it doesn't
feel right to me either. You know. I've I've I've
heard from some front office people that that they're not
really looking at the Brad Stevens job this year. Um,
like he's been doing a good job. I've also heard
that Brad Stevens has been a little bit um, a
(33:39):
little bit lax, a little bit uh like, like the
opposite of a disciplinary and he's kind of letting guys
do their thing a little bit um and maybe a
firmer hand is required with this groups on starting to
hear some criticism of Brad Stevens, um, and someone tells
that has me kind of gone. Um. The the cryptic
quotes from Kyrie Irving, who like he says he hates
(34:01):
doing media, but you know, it's like, it's like, dude,
I'm not buying this. OW feels sorry for me. I
don't like dude, You're a Max player who's making movies,
just got a shoe contract. This is part of the game, bro.
But Aaron's your point. It is funky, But I think
the overall talent of Boston, um, the electricity and urgency
(34:21):
of the playoffs, is going to get this team to
play the right way. He's Rick Camlo. See him on
NBA TV here, I'm on Syrias Sex m NBA Radio
talking fantasy and and all that. We appreciate it. Rick
Twitter at NBA TV. Ricks same as usual. Have a
great weekend, Bud, Dan, Aaron, take it easy.
