(00:21):
of the Doug Gotlive Show on Fox Sports Radio. Boom
of America, Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I hope
you're having a great day. The Doug Gotlip Show is
brought to you by Farmers. At Farmers, we've seen almost everything,
so we know how to cover almost anything when it's
game time. Having experienced player help you stay ahead of

(00:42):
the game, put their experience into play. At Farmers dot
com are Farmers, Uh. You don't have to respect the player,
you should respect the game. That's my reaction to Russell
Wilson and the power of smart renegotiation of under contract
that he really had very little leverage to change. Think

(01:05):
about that for a second. Russell Wilson was under contract
for this season and based upon the Collective Barn Agreement
it could have been under contract as a franchise Taggi
even if he didn't like a new deal at the
end of this season, in the next year and the
following year as well. That's three years and you can
even put a friend a transition tag. So instead he

(01:29):
has a new deal where the average annual value is
thirty five million dollars, the signing bonus is sixty five
million dollars. Russell Wilson is now the highest paid player
in the National Football League. And you don't have to
respect the player, you should respect the game. And by

(01:49):
that I don't actually mean his playing ability. We've seen
this before. Top quarterback, maybe not the best quarterback, but
top quarterbacks. Contract is up, then he gets a new deal.
Here's the thing, his contract wasn't actually up. Kind of
genius and diabolical. And just like he plays the game
in terms of how he carries himself, thinks he purports

(02:14):
himself to be, it might not be the reality of
who he actually is. Right Like, do we really really
think that he was celibate with Ciara before he got married.
I mean she did have a kid from somebody else.

(02:35):
Like I believe in born again Christians, I don't believe
in born again virgins. I'm sorry. I was born at night,
not last night. She is a beautiful and charming and
intelligent woman and she is completely into him. And I
am not jealous at all. I'm just not an idiot
to think, oh yeah, I'm gonna buy that. But that's

(02:56):
the image that he tried to sell us, and some
people bought it. The reason that some around the NFL,
his former defensive mates, some other offensive players in the
league don't like Russell Wilson because he's not real. But
you know what, he is really rich. And that same

(03:21):
use of media, that same smart planning and positioning, created
some false narrative that if the Seahawks didn't sign a deal,
agreed to a deal by last night, he wouldn't renegotiate further.
It's a game of chicken, and the Seahawks blinked. And look,

(03:45):
there are some benefits to the Seahawks pay all the
money up front to get cost certainty. They got their
quarterback for the next three to possibly four years, and
he's a damn good quarterback. On the other hand, they
didn't have to do the deal. This is much like
the train that doesn't have to stop. I don't have

(04:08):
to stop. Train runs you over. I cut the ads. Okay,
train runs you over. That's a you problem. Even if
they hit the brakes, like you shouldn't have been on
the tracks. But now I got to clean it up.
Now I gotta pay some sort of lawsuit. Now there's
bad pr It's just not worth it. Hit the brakes,

(04:31):
try and stop. I mean, look, I don't believe Russell
Wilson is of what he purports to be. Right. He
posts online a video with he and CRRA snuggling in
bed celebrating the new contract. How happy he is to
be there. I Meanwhile, he's got like three or four
necklaces on, Like nobody wears three or four necklaces to bed.

(04:54):
Some but here some people have talked to they take
off their wedding room for bed. That's the only thing
I leave. I could sleep completely, it would except for
my wedding room and a hat. Oh just smoking the
bandit who only takes off his hat for one thing. Anyway,
The point is this, he just played the game. These
contracts to contract demands were made in January. You go

(05:17):
back three or four weeks ago, and suddenly it leaked
out to Colin Cowherd that maybe Russell Wilson prefers to
play in New York. Maybe he's tired of the rain
started the cold, started carrying the team with a bad
offensive line. And then last week it leaked out that
if the deal wasn't done on time, it wouldn't ever

(05:39):
get done. And as much as I want to say
both chips and say, I don't believe it, because you
mean to tell me three months from now, if John
Steinder came in and said, hey, we're gonna give you
sixty five million dollars up front, he would go like, no, John,
I can't. I drew a line in the sand. The

(06:01):
fact is played the game smartly and he won. And
whether or not you believe he sleeps with three necklaces,
on whether or not you believe that that he and
cra were in fact celibate until marriage, whatever you believe
about Russell Wilson, believe this damn good player, damn smart

(06:24):
businessman who positioned himself smartly to become the highest paid
player in the National Football League and somehow make it
out where he's loyal to the Seahawks. And remember here's
the big part. He never said a negative word. That's
the genius to it. These NBA guys Kevin Durant can't

(06:50):
say the right thing. They can't figure out how to
answer the question. Kyrie Irving saying the wrong thing time
and again when they're gonna be free agents. Here's a
guy who's under contract and could be under contract for
at least two, if not three more years to come
under some sort of trip franchise or transition tag. And
he never said a word publicly about negotiating about contract,

(07:12):
about happiness or unhappiness or dollar figured nothing. He basically
pulled an Eli Manning. Eli never said anything bad about
his general manager about his coach going back to last year.
But let's remember that the coach, the owner of the

(07:33):
gentle manager were all in line and they didn't even
want to bench Eli Manning. They simply wanted to play
his backups during the second half of games late in
the year to see what they had outside of Eli
Manning to start the transition of finding another quarterback. And
Eli said, Nah, if you're gonna sit me at the
end of the game, sent me the whole game. It
lasted one game. Eli was back, the coach was out,

(07:56):
the gentle manager was out, but Eli never said a
negative word. Wait, like former players, fans, they lost their minds,
had elies back so much so that Dave geentleman now
even he walks on eggshells. I don't really know exactly
how to handle the Eli thing, but you know, I don't.

(08:16):
I know not to do. Don't bench him in public.
There's never been an article or a SoundBite about him
even not want to play for the Chargers when he
was drafted. It was rumored, it was talked about, it
was reality, but you never heard the Eli Manning say
any sort of any sort of work. Change that to

(08:38):
Russell Wilson, you don't have to like the player. You
can or you can love the player, but you gotta
appreciate the game. Right. That was a robbery and plain site.
That was a renegotiation that wasn't necessary. And oh yeah,
by the way, it runs counter to how the Seahawks
had been built and how so many other chance leadship

(09:00):
teams have been sustained in the NFL, which is keep
your costs lower for your best players so that you
can fill out a roster around you. What a brilliant
business maneuver by Russell Wilson. This wasn't his second contract.

(09:20):
He wasn't Dak Prescott playing on a dated deal. He's
playing in a second deal and he's been outstanding. I'm
not taking shots at all of him. I don't think
he's the best quarterback in the league. I think we'll
look back at him as a better quarterback than the
reality of Russell Wilson was because the defense, the running game,

(09:40):
and his big play making ability at the end of
games what won them games the first two and a
half three years in the league. That said, he's the
highest paid guy in the National Football He's got a
ton of money upfront, doesn't have to move, doesn't hurt
his image, and somehow has won the day. Okay, credible
business stuff. Be sure to catch live editions of The

(10:03):
Doug Dot Leap Show weekdays in noon eastern three pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
But I got caught up in that weird Twitter beef
there with Marlbury that I I tried to like what
do I do to you know what I mean? It's
like one of those things where a couple of days
ago I tweeted out a like biggest smith in basketball

(10:23):
is that there's a bunch of ballers in New York City.
And my my point is more like it's not it's
just not what it used to be, right, just not
um And you know, look I can give you more background.
Like my dad's a former high school coach in Jersey,
grew up in the Bronx. He moved out to Long Island.

(10:45):
He used to play, you know, street ball, play at
the Rucker. We used to go back every summer and
you throw me on courts. I played pick up basketball
in New York, and you do we all think New
York stuff was over hyped, Like yeah, we like, you know,
I grew up in the generation where he guy named
Felipe Lopez was on the cover of Sports Illustrat It's
supposedly gonna save the Big East and he wasn't. It

(11:08):
wasn't that good, right, he just wasn't. We beat them
when I was in college Notre Dame, and Notre Dame
was not That was our first Big East win ever. Anyway,
So of course, like New York guy gets super super mad,
that would be you know, it's like I'm trying to
think everybody kind of has this thing that's like I
guess it's like saying if I said, like Texas doesn't

(11:32):
have good football players, I mean, I don't know, like
you get every region has their kind of regional thing
like yeah, so they overreacts. So Stefan Marbury starts coming
at me like personally about um, what what did he say? What?
What was I don't even remember all that. There was
a bunch of tweets there that I wasn't really following
again because I was actually driving home. And then I

(11:53):
was a parent and I cooked a mean, mean a
couple of steaks in my grill, and then I actually
went to basketball, and every once in a while I
was appearing on Twitter just to see what else was
going on. I had a long conversation with a couple
of my friends anyway, he talked about how he used
to kill me when we play against him, Like, okay,

(12:15):
here's the honest reality. Stephan Marbury was considered the best
point guard in my class school. I was only on
the same basketball floor with him in a game once
one time, not at abc D camp, which was back
then there were two camps. There's Nike and there was

(12:36):
a b C d Um Nike as if you were
a Nike guy, Sonny Bacaro had left Nike and gone
to Converse first and then gone to Adidas. And my
dad and Sonny were friends from way way way back,
and we were we were Adidas back then. Sonny got
my high school team sponsored by Adidas, and our AU
program was sponsored by Adidas, and he was My dad

(12:59):
was loyal to Sonny, and so I don't even remember.
I might I vaguely remember a practice, um because usually,
like McDonald's stuff, you practiced the week before. That's where
all the NBA scouts go now, but they didn't then
back then. They were closed practices, and magics was, which

(13:19):
is now what used to be the Dapper Dan Game
now the Allen Iverson Game. Magics was the week after McDonald's.
So McDonald's you got the week leading up practice wise,
you got the Duncan three point then you have the
All Star Game, and then you have another All Star
game the next week, and so guys would kind of
roll in whenever. Kevin Garnett didn't come in until the

(13:40):
night before because he was studying for the S A T.
So he wasn't in practice. Like I don't even remember
there being like practice. There might have been one workout
or two workouts or something. But it's a very kind
of different vibe. And I just made him shoot and
he missed almost all of his shots. I think he
was like one of nine from the floor. So what
I chose do? A buddy of mine sent me the

(14:01):
box score, and I just tweeted at the box score
like it wasn't some heroic box score. I was like
one of two. I had a sweet, like fake reverse
in for the layup layup. I think I missed the
only three I took. I was a replacement for Chance
to Builds who are injured his shoulder ether McDonald's early
in the week. I don't I don't even remember. I
just remember that I played. I remember that I matched

(14:21):
up with Marbury. I remember that he didn't make any shots.
That was it, and we won. But that was even
the point. The point was I was like, look, tell
me where all the New York City ball players are.
And he's like, your garbage and your dad, dear dad
kissed Sonny Forcaro's But and I shredded you and I'm

(14:44):
awesome and I'm in and New York ball players are
awesome and you don't know what you're talking about, or
maybe I'm actually making you're making my point for me,
all right. One, all these guys are naming people from
earty years ago, not the Point. And Stephan Marbury, who
had the talent to be a first ballot Hall of Famer,

(15:06):
had to remake his career in China because whether it's
just a mental inability to understand how to get along
with teams and teammates and survived, like look he twice
he got brought back to New York City with the
nets and with the knicks, and it didn't work. It
wasn't for lack of talent, but even staff like that's

(15:26):
fifteen years ago. Kemba Walker is awesome. But New York
City has an reputation of being like all the great
Point guards because they used to come out of New York.
Where are they now? Right, go through where all these
guys are from. But they all get bitter and they

(15:48):
all think you're talking about lu All Cinder, you know,
or Mark Jackson, Oh you're not. And instead they turn
it on you, which is what people do in politics too.
Rite They talked about you instead of talking about the
actual topic that you want to talk about. But that's
what Maybe it's when you eat a lot of assoline

(16:10):
on a live stream. Maybe all of a sudden, that
makes every question and debate become personal as opposed the
ability to have you know. And and in fairness, the
problem with Twitter is I should have contextualized it because
it was during the time in which Bobby Hurley was
up for the St. John's job, and I said, Arizona
States a better job in St. John's. And it's a

(16:32):
myth that there's players in New York City now, not
two Thou be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug dot Leap Show weekdays in noon eastern three pm Pacific.
The story of the day in the NFL is Russell
Wilson's now the league's highest paid player. That happened in
like midnight Pacific coast time. Tyron Matthew joins us of

(16:52):
the Kansas City Chiefs. First, Tyrant, thanks so much for
taking some time, UM new home for you. Like we've
all thought, Hey, the Chiefs had any sort of defense man,
they'd be in a Super Bowl, they might be Super
Bowl champions. Um, I look, I know you haven't been
with the team long, but what are your thoughts and
hopes on on this upcoming season? Well, you know, we

(17:15):
got a new group, so you know, it's a little
deep defensive coordinator uh, to the new defensive staff. Uh.
You know, some of the same spaces are in the room. Uh.
And then they you know, obviously they let go a
couple of guys. So you know, it's gonna be a
big challenge for us, you know, not only to you know,
complement our offense, but but to kind of get that
that bad taste, you know, out of our mouths. So

(17:37):
we got along road ahead, so I hope that just
coming and you know, to help out. Yeah, kind of
the opposite of what you had in Arizona's last year,
right when you had an offense that had a two
you know too new offensive coordinators and you know, a
rookie quarterback. To now you have the most prolific offense
in the National Football League. Like, you can't get a
completely different style of offense to go along with defense

(17:58):
than what you will experience from from last year this. Yeah. Absolutely,
So you know, like I said, it'll be a tough challenge. Yeah,
but you know, I think it's a great group of guys.
You know, they have a pretty young team, you know,
probably one of the younger teams in the NFL, and
you know, obviously they have an offense that could really
score on any given drive. So as a defense, you know,
we just have to go out there, you know, compliment

(18:21):
those guying um and then kind of form our own
identity as well. So you know, that's why I'm here,
you know, to kind of help lead the pack in,
you know, to get everybody going, yeah, come over from
the Texans and from the Cardinals before that, Tyron Matthew
joining us in the Doug Otlip Show on Fox Sports Radio.
By the way, I saw you retweet that Tom Brady
tweet where he had the picture of himself like but

(18:43):
but you know, as much as Tom Brady is is
kind of part of that story, right with six six
round compensatory pick, so too, are you right? Like, because
of the issues you had in college, there are a
lot of questions about what type of pro you would be. UM.
So as as fans, how should we view guys when
they go in the draft and you you hear the

(19:03):
knocks against him, How how should we view it? Well,
you know, let's think just you know, fair to really
give everybody, you know a fair shot. You know, you know,
I think That's what a lot of people did for me.
You know, there's a lot of baggage that I had,
and you know there's a lot that that was being
made out of who I was. But you know, once
I got drafted and you know, once I was able to,
you know, become an NFL player, you know, I think

(19:24):
my slate was clean, and I think everybody really deserves that. So,
you know, there'll be a lot of hitting gms that
you find within the draft, and you know, some guys
go early and they pan out to be what you
expect them to be, and you know, so it'll be
a lot of guys that that actually, you know, fall
out of the first round, but it doesn't necessarily mean
that they that they want to get to, you know
where you know that they want to be. All right,

(19:45):
help us out. What was your inside info with Russell Wilson? Right,
you're like you do you didn't hear from Tea, but
I know he wants to be in New York. And
you can act like you can act like you didn't
you left Twitter blood crumbs, Right, we're all following the trail.
You got a million followers? Uh to take me through
the tweet? You know, I actually I probably got too
much into it, you know, with him playing for the

(20:07):
Yankee Man. You know, I think about the persona you know,
of Russell Wilson, and you know, I always thought he
was fit for New York. You know, he was the
kind of guy to handle New York, you know what
I mean. So I just dow that tweet out. A
lot of people ran with it, but it wasn't really
it wasn't really anything behind it, you know. I think
it was just me thinking too hard. Maybe I wanted

(20:27):
to Russell in New York, you know, more than us
wanted the New York um. So it doesn't happen. He
tweets out, you know, he and his wife Sara in bed.
He had three chains on do you wear are like?
My boys are? Like, dude, there's no way that was
a setup deal. He had three chains on you don't
wear your chaine to bed? Do you wear a chaine
to bed? Are you cool with that? No? No? I

(20:50):
do not? What ms after that? I don't. I don't
win any the bed. So it's so it's that's one
of those things, like it's like not authentic, right if
a guy's got three chains like he was that that
that was that was a setup video. Yeah yeah, I
had to be right. Tyran Matthew joining us on the
Doug Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, I

(21:13):
know again, I know you haven't worked there long. When
I say Pat Mahomes, what comes to your mind as
a great defensive player? Oh man, all, you know, I
hate to compare people, but I think he's probably you know,
he's probably like a more He's like a Aaron Rodgers,
but probably he has more attributes. You know. You know,

(21:35):
he could do some crazy things in the pocket, and uh,
he's an ultimate competitor. You know. I remember the first
the first couple of days I signed. He was one
of the first guys that leached out to me, and
all you could talk about was how he was going
to put the ball at me in practice. So you know, uh,
he's all he's an ultimate competitor obviously, you know, one
of the younger n vps in this league. And you
know he has a great offense as well. He has

(21:55):
a lot of weapons and uh uh he knows how
to use those. Guys. What, how are you different in
terms of going to a new team. Now, Like I'm
a guy that I've I've been with the ESPN, CBS,
now Fox right, and I think I learned from transitioning
from one team to the next because I've I've I've
done it when an athlete and then too as a broadcaster.

(22:16):
How are you different in terms of absorbing the culture
of Kansas City because this is not your second NFL
team you've been, You've done this transition before. Yeah, you know, obviously,
I think that's you know about coming in and kind
of filling everybody out and you know, getting the filth
of his body. But you know, I think at the
end of the day, Um, you know, I think the
Kansas City chief brought me here to be a leader,

(22:38):
you know. And I think anytime you have success anywhere,
you know, I think the next employer, you know, he
always looks back on the things that he's done well. So, uh,
you know, I've tried to implement myself as a great leader.
I don't uh in Houston, but also in Arizona when
I was there. So uh, like I said that they're
going through it, they're going through a transition as well,

(22:58):
you know, with a new defensive staff. You know, I
think that I'm really capable of, you know, coming in
you know what the first places, you know, really helping
everybody else, you know, uh, you know, believing themselves and
uh and get everybody at the speed. So I think, ultimately,
you know, I'm here to to kind of leave the packing,
you know, to be a leader the race of ties

(23:18):
to everybody around me. All right, most important question I was.
I was with Kenny Stills covering an NFL game this
year and he claims, he claims that when you, you you
and O b J were in college, he came to
one of your games and you guys saw his hair
and that's where you got the idea to dye your hair.
That's where O. B J's hair comes from. Is that
true or false? No, that's that's that's that's false. Um. Actually,

(23:43):
Kenny Stiles was Actually he was the first person with
that hairstyle. Um. The reason I died my hair was
because one of my younger sisters she wanted me with
the same hair as Chris Brown. Chris Brown had blind
hair at the time, and so that was kind of
the reason I died my hair a blind It had
got to do with Jimmy, But he was, of course,
he was absolutely the first college player with the blind hair,

(24:07):
he's he's he's the godfather died hair. How good are
you at kickball? I'm really good. You know. I grew
up playing kickball. You know, it's kind of one of
the first sports I really learned how to play. And um,
you know, so we did it at recess in elementary school.
What what what elementary school? What elementary school? Osbourne? Uh,
it's in the world of the East, so uh. And

(24:30):
it was a big time game, man, I mean we
we treated it. It was like all community competitive. Um.
You know, I remember one time I used to kick
the ball out of the fils in the school. So
I've always been like a home run kind of kickball player. Yeah,
but do you like it now? Do you like it rolled?
Or do you like it bouncing? Right? Because you bounce it,
there's a literally you can hit your shin and then
it can go anywhere whereas it rolled, you kind of have.

(24:52):
You know, you might not be able to lift it
nearly as much, but you can get more power, more
consistency when somebody's when somebody's rolling up a kickball to you,
do you like it bounced to rolled? I mean I
think it's better roll the ball to me. Um. I
think if you can, if you bounce it and I
hit it the right way, it's gonna go pretty far.
But I'll just I'll just read to roll the ball

(25:13):
to me and not get a clean kick, you know,
because if you know, yeah, I know, there's there's there's
some there's some tricks to the trade. The second annual
UH Celebrity Kickball Game benefiting Tyer Matthews Foundation. That's May
eighteen at the Shrine on on Airline. That's a Baby
Cake stadium in memory. That's at three pm start time.

(25:34):
Tickets available UH now online at Ticketmaster. And of course
there's a Taste of New Orleans Kickoff Party Friday, May seventeen,
that's the night before kickoff, local New Orleans restaurants, UH
Live Jazz prizes again all available now. And then you
have your own football camp football camp as well. Um um,

(25:54):
that sounds like an incredible amount of stuff. How different
is it for you to go back home now as
a posed to during the rough years. Well, you know,
I'm very blessed, you know, Dug, I'm very fortunate, you know,
to even be in this position, you know I am
I'm in right now, And to be honest, you know,
I don't think I would be here, you know without
the supporter of you know, great family, you know, great

(26:16):
friends and not only let but obviously l s u
uh St august In High School in New Orleans. So
it was a lot of people that really helped me out.
And you know, especially during those dogs, those dog days
and those rough times, you know, uh, those people still
supported me. They really cared about me. You know. I
was always like a fund of their village. And you know,
so for me, it's it's very important to not to

(26:36):
get where I come from. Uh, and also not to
forget you know, who helped me your loan away? All right, Well,
since you seem to know where Russell Wilson wanted to go,
do you know where KD is going? Kadi is going
to New York? Man? Alright, what about Kauai? Where's Kauai going?

(26:57):
I hope, I say Kauai is a fit for l
A man. I think Kauai needs to go to the Clipper.
I was abouting the clip with game last night, and
the only thing I could say was if they had Kauai.
If they had Kauai, there'll be a much better team
because go hard, the so physical Uh, and I think
ultimately just need a superstar that could really take them
over the top. Yeah, they got Pat Beverley. Man, I

(27:17):
love that dude. I wouldn't want to play against him,
but man, you'd love him on and you'd love him
on your team, right, I mean, there's a dude he
went he went to the Ukraine to go play and
then got back to the States and made the league,
and he just there's a there's a level of toughness
and competitiency. All right, what about what about Kyrie? Does
Kyrie stay in Boston's Kyrie go to New York? Where
does he go back and play with Lebron? I don't know.

(27:40):
I'm not you know, I'm not really in him to Kyrie. Um,
you know, I don't really know how he feels. I
can't really even make an educated guest of how evenly feels. U.
He doesn't really seem happy in Boston. He does not,
So usually need to do you need to have the
honey Badger tweeting updating network and break stories and beat
beat would beatloaded his game? Yeah? Yeahs hashtag you didn't

(28:04):
hear from t right, that'll be your that'll be your
your your quality information. Uh So the weekend is nineteenth.
Got the football camp, following the jazz Fest and the
Taste and Rollins and of course the kickball game. Tyrant,
thanks so much for joining us. Best of luck in
this offseason. Can't wait to see you part of the
Chief's Kingdom this upcoming seasons. The Fox Sports Radio has

(28:29):
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all
of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com and
within the I Heart Radio app search f s R
to listen live. Chris Buzard Coast a great show. It's
called Odd Couple. Uh there's a strand of Vegas follows
our show, Jonas Knocks and r J belt Um and

(28:49):
then an hour later, so four o'clock West Coast time,
seven o'clock East Coast time. Two guys with um, very
very different personalities, but really good friends and I have
rade arguments that are organic arguments or discussions. Really UM
are on the Odd Couple. Crazy Uncle, Rob Parker and
Chris Broussard and Christopers had joined us now on Fox

(29:10):
Sports Radio. What's your level of concern with the Warriors
not just losing last night, but losing to Marcus Cousins.
I gotta be honest, I'm not very concerned about them
losing cousins. Now. I do think there'll be an emotional
toll for you know, the brief period, I really think
those guys liked him, and I think they were pulling

(29:31):
for him. You know, he's injured, UM coming off the
Achilles never got that big Max deal that his Pallette warrant.
Whether you think it's you know, winning ways warrant that
or not. UM, And now it looks like it's another
serious injury for him. So I think that it really
bothers them emotionally, but basketball wise, you can make an

(29:53):
argument there better Now the numbers his cousins come back,
they've actually been better. They've wanted a higher percent and
they have. Uh, you know, they they're points per game
were hired, their point differential was hired, their defense was better. UM.
But I think overall, I would go with most people's assessment,

(30:14):
this is from my own eyes and talking to people
around the league, that they're better defensively without him. Cavine
Looney is a better defender and you know, can give
you a little bit of offense as we saw last
night every once in a while too. And I actually
thought Doug that lately I felt like they were going
a little too much through Cousins offensively, at least at time,

(30:38):
And obviously that can can take away from the other
three big scores they have. So I don't think they're
really gonna miss a beat without Boogie. Um. So if
they don't win it for some reason, it won't be
because Boogie Cousins got injured. Doug gotlip show here on
Fox Sports Radio. UM, I would have agree, but I

(31:01):
also think that it's gonna bring me makes it, puts
it back up on the floor, right, Um, whether it's
Bogan or was Looney or you know, or obviously they
go with Andre Guadala and then it it makes the
and now they really do not have a margin. Frere,
you lose anybody else and remember, like the playoffs, we
still got like two months left of the playoffs. You

(31:21):
lose anybody else, and now you're in big trouble. Fair
what no, yeah, no question. I mean obviously if you
lose one of those big three scores, because that's the
thing with the Warriors now, they don't have nearly the
depths that they used to have in their early years
of this championship run and that's the big thing in
Livingston and Niguadala are older and not quite as good

(31:43):
as they used to be. Another concerned Doug is this,
and this is I mean, we've all seen the last
few games. How Patrick Beverley has done a really good
job defensively on Kevin Durant. But do you know, like
over the last uh twenty two no, seventeen games MS
so basically the last month and a half, Kevin Durant

(32:04):
for some reason, is not shooting the basketball like he's average.
He's average is down to twent over that period month
and a half. His average is down to twenty points
a game. Uh, He's taken like thirteen shots the game
when the average about eighteen shots the game before that.
His shooting percentage is still find overall, he's just not

(32:27):
putting up shots now and from three point lands. Over
that last month and a half, he's really been off.
He's at about thirty from three point range. And you
look at these last two games with Beverly, and I'm
Beverly's done an outstanding job on him. However, Kad also
just isn't shooting. The boy shooting like fifty six percent
in these two games. But he's not putting it up.

(32:50):
He put averaging like twelve shots the game. I don't
understand what's going on with that. Um. As you were
just to tell me the last two games, I would say, well, Beverly,
you know, taking away a space and Katie's trying to
make the right play and pass it off. But over
the last month and a half, I don't understand what

(33:10):
is going on with Kevin Durant. And that is more
of a concern if I'm a Warrior's fan. Yeah, well,
I mean, like, let's like with the sports radio, right,
you're not writing a column like us right columns. Just
let's speculate, like do you think do you think it's
like all right, you guys think you can do it
without me? Were fine, go ahead, do it, do it
without me? Like do you think that you know? I mean,
I think that's something that certainly pops into a person's head,

(33:33):
and you wonder. I just hope that I hope Kevin
Durant is not taking the attack of either what you said. Look,
you guys think you don't need me, let's see, or
it's easier for me to leave if we don't win it.
And that's really a bad attitude obviously, and even think

(33:54):
somebody would do that. I don't think Katie would do that, um,
because then you're essentially almost throwing games. I certainly don't
think he'd ever do that. However, could a person think
it's easier for me to leave it we don't win.
Remember people thought I don't think it, but people thought
Lebron did that out of Cleveland his first year, you know,

(34:15):
when he went to Miami's first sent there. Um. I
here's the thing, if that thought ever does pop into
Kevin Durant's head, it's just not true. Like, if you
win a third championship there, you're golden. I mean, you're
basically golden anyway, you can do whatever you want. Nobody
is going to kill Kevin Durant for leaving Golden State

(34:39):
as a three time champion and maybe even a three
time finals m v P. So hopefully that isn't even
a thought in his mind. But you wonder, I just
don't understand Doug and and people are have a right
to speculate about any of it because it just doesn't
make sense. It doesn't make sense. So I'm gonna look

(34:59):
the was I mean, his his minutes were down a
little bit at the end of the season as well
as they tried to addrest him. Sums that could be
part of it. But yeah, like it. It's a it's
a weird deal. Well, we'll see how this thing evolves
over time. All right, let's get to uh, let's get
to the Philadelphia seventy sixers. What did you see last night?

(35:19):
Does that? Does that build any confidence in the Sixers
moving forward? It built confidence in that I think they'll
do what we most of us expect, which is beat Brooklyn. Um.
I thought Brooklyn presented some matchup problem. And then when
you know, and beat is out or injured, obviously they
could you know, maybe extend this thing to seven games.

(35:41):
But I do think Philadelphia wins, will win it. And
that is what the confidence that came out last night.
Here's why Ben Simmons and I've you know, look, initially
I was very high on Ben Simmons, thinking he could
be a superstar, and then I recently I've been like, look,
he's got to get a shot or he's not gonna

(36:03):
be very good on I think he's been a liability
to them recently. But last night, Doug, what we saw
was the aggressiveness uh, and how that can counter his
lack of a jumper because they're laying off him so
much that they're essentially giving him a free ride into
the paint. And at his size, with his athleticism and skills,

(36:26):
he can once he gets into paint, he's a threat
to score or make a good pass and a good play.
So I think that's what the difference was last night,
his aggressiveness. And it's almost like he's way better obviously
than Lions of Ball, but it's almost like sometimes you
see what lionso Ball, where you say, where is this
every night? Why isn't he aggressive every time he steps

(36:50):
on the floor. And I think if Simmons comes to
play like he did last night, even he doesn't have
a jump shot, but as long as he's going to
penetrate and force the issue, if they lay off of
him last night, that changes everything for Brooklyn defensively, and
I think the Sixers will be fine in this round

(37:11):
if he continues to do that. Doug Otlive show here
on Fox Sports Radio. This is the voice of Chris Broussard,
part of the Odd Couple. He and Rob Parker for
a seven Pacific Coast Time seven to ten East Coast time. Alright,
what about what about Oklahoma City tonight? They're taking on
the Portland Traibler's. They shot the ball poorly and Paul
George got a bad shoulder, But all it takes is

(37:33):
one game to regain home court advantage on the road.
Does okay See back up? But Colin Colin had some
sort of wallet. I don't know if it's real or
fake that he wanted to put all his money on
this game. I do think okay See wins this because
I picked them to get to the conference finals. Um,
somebody out of that. You look at that side of
the bracket, it's Portland's, okay See, Denver and San Antonio.

(37:55):
So somebody that nobody expects to get to the conference
ankles are expected to is going to get there. I
think it will be okay See. As you said, they
shot it very poorly from three. I don't expect that. Again,
not that they're great three point shooting team, but I
don't expect them to be that poor. And I what
I want from Paul George because it looks like the

(38:16):
shoulders really bothering the shot. I think he's got to
stop settling for the three. He took fifteen threes, hit
four of them in the last game. I think he's
got to penetrate and not subtle. For the jumper. It
is your shooting shoulder that's bothered in you, so that
three is not gonna be true. So if he penetrates,
uh and tries to score, you know, closer to the basket,

(38:38):
I think that will help him be more effective and
obviously help them as a team. Westbrook was fine. I mean,
he shot eight for seventeen, obviously missed all the three
point attempts, and you know, Doug being a former point guard,
I've said it. I I'm a fan of Westbrooks. I
think he's gonna be iconic just because of the triple doubles.
But I don't think he'll ever win the championship because

(38:59):
I don't think as a point guard, he doesn't understand
time and score my in my opinion, and he plays
minute forty seven like it's minute seventeen. And that's great
and it helps him put up great numbers and wins
to a high level um, but it's I don't think
he's gonna enable you to win a championship. Uh so,

(39:20):
But I think they can get past Portland's and obviously
they gotta win the night to do that. Doug and
Fox Sports Radio, Okay, what about Toronto, Like, yeah, that
that looks I everybody obviously has dogged him for being
haunted by playoff ghosts, and I thought with Kauai and

(39:42):
Danny Green and getting he isn't even sing Martinus off
you want and getting the Rosen out of there to
Martin Rosen, I thought that would he cure that, but
apparently it has it and Kyle Lowry there's something he
just tightens up. I mean, I think he's a tough guys.
He's want the toughest point guards in the league. But

(40:03):
it's just I mean, it's too many times that this
is happening in the playoffs. I don't expect him to
go scoreless again, but he rarely plays up to his
ability in the playoffs, and you gotta be concerned about that.
I look, I don't think Orlando beats them, but I
think now they have been my pick. I was with
Milwaukee for the second half of the season, and I

(40:25):
do think they're the best team in the East, but
I felt like their lack of experience would hurt them,
and I thought Toronto's with Kauai and Danny, would you know,
give them the edge if they meet in the Eastern
Conference finals. But now I thinks you have to wonder
about Toronto and what you have to wonder about two
is Kauai Leonard as great as he is, and he

(40:46):
played well in Game one, he was fine, But if
he had true number one on the championship team. You'll
remember when he won it in San Antonio, you average
twelve points that year. They had the big three all intact,
and I know they were older Duncan, Genobli and Parker
and and Kauai did average eight teen in that series

(41:07):
against Lebron, but still it wasn't his team, and he
really hasn't lant a team to the finals into a championship.
So I think that's a fair question to ask. And
if they somehow stumbled against Orlando, then that does uh
kind of take away from how great Kauai is. But

(41:29):
I expect, I do expect to Rono to survive this series,
and then we'll see what they do against Philly, presumably
in the next round. Yeah, yeah, I know it's and
then of course we got the Celtics to be um.
Let me let me ask you about the Lakers. I
thought what Zach Loos said, that's exactly what I've heard.
Whereas there's these, um, what are the circles called? Is

(41:49):
that a ven diagram? Yeah? The right, the orbits he
was saying. I do think when they when they say
Lakers orbit, I think they mean in like recent right
recent Lakers or bit and maybe Genie bust orbit. I
don't think they mean Jerry West, however unrealistic that maybe

(42:12):
I don't think they mean if pat Riley were to
come back, which I certainly don't think it's happening. But
I think they mean the Kobe, you know, Kurt Rambis,
that whole thing. And look, the Lakers are doing this
thing done backwards, which could mean that this whole coaching
search is a farce and they know they're gonna hire

(42:34):
Tylu and they're just interviewing Monty Williams and Juwan Howard
to make it look like Lebron hasn't already picked the
next coach, because why in the world are you hiring
a coach without solidifying your front office. Now, it may
be that Klink is gonna be the guy, all right,
and and it's he's running basketball operations. Now he's gonna

(42:57):
be the president and all that, but if it's if
that's not the case, why the havn't you hired a
president or don't you are a president first to do
it with Polink and hired a coach? And even if
Polinka is running the front office, now, why not hire
his assistant GM or his GM as he assends the

(43:18):
president to help with the coaching search like they're doing this.
This whole thing is a mess, and right like, is
Pelinka the guy? Why don't you announce it? And look,
rob our Doug, my deal is with Polinka have been
fine over the years I've gotten along with him. I

(43:40):
haven't seen anything negative in my dealings with him personally,
but you know his reputation, it's bad. And everybody talking
about how agents don't want to deal with him or
the front offices don't want to deal with him. And look,
at the end of the day, money talks and the
best opportunity talks, and if it's a good deal for

(44:00):
your team, you're gonna do it. But with all things
being equal, guys aren't looking to send players to him
to help him out in any way shape perform, and uh,
and then of course the there's a Lebron angle with uh. Look,
you know how it is. A player doesn't want to
play with their boss, and if they think Lebron's running everything,

(44:23):
then that can be at the turret to some Look,
here's the thing, though, Anthony Davis is not a decern
to him. I don't know that it will be a
deterred to Draymond Green if he gets free, and I
think you would consider the Lakers. So some players it
will be fine, but others, Yeah, it could be an issue.
The Gotlip show here on Fox Sports Radio, Yeah, I

(44:45):
mean it could be Look, here's the Crazies. So Rob
Lincoln's wife is Mikey's doctor. I have I and uh
we I've coached his son a couple of tournaments whatever,
like yeah, but I uh, reputations, I know him. I

(45:06):
can't tell you I know him really well to be
totally honest with you, right Like he I I know
people work in that building, and people work in that
building seem to like him. But everyone in the league
knows the reputations and reputations are. It's really it's like
it's like Rondo. Rondo's reputation is of a tough guy
to get along with and a bad shooter. And even

(45:26):
though he's been a really good teammate this year, it's
not like it's really helped his reputation, you know what
I mean? So, um yeah, so it's it's hard to shake.
And I just don't know. I'm with you, like, it
doesn't make any sense. You need a president, you need
a head coach. Why would you hire the head coach
before you unless you hire Monty Williams. And you think
everybody wants to work with Monty Williams. He's not a

(45:47):
turn to anybody. Yeah, that's possible, that's possible. Obviously, Monty
has a great reputation. He obviously coached Anthony Davis as
well in New Orleans. Um, but you're you know how
he is when the front office comes in, especially if
it's gonna be a guy above Pelinka. Uh, you know,

(46:07):
how did they want their own guy? And I'm not
saying they being there trying to undermine Monty right away
and get rid of him. But you don't feel the
same attachment to the coach if he's not your higher
And uh, I just think the Lakers, don't they they
they they are? This is bad this looks bad and

(46:28):
it's not gonna help him in free agencies. So I look,
I don't think to your original point about Zach Low
in that article or his comment about guys and I
wanted to go play with Lebron, it's a deterrent if
he's running the franchise. The thing is, I don't think
they have much of a chance. I won't say zero,
but I don't think they have much of a chance

(46:49):
of getting k D Kauai Kyrie or Clay Thompson anyway.
So I don't know how big of a deal is
gonna be for them in free agency. They're The whole
thing is that they've got to find a way to
get Anthony Davis. And so regardless of what some agents
may think, I think that it doesn't necessarily change their

(47:14):
order of business for this summer. Awesome stuff. Can we
hear your show tonight? And uh I look forward to
listen to it on my drive home. It's Um Christopers sorry,
it's called The Odd Couple. It starts at four West
Coast seven East coast time along with crazy Uncle Rob Parker.
