Up America, Doug got Leave Show, Fox Sports Radio. Hope

a wonderful passover or easter, whatever you did this weekend. Man,
hope it was good to It was good to us.
Welcome in. Thanks so much for making us part of
(00:43):
your day. Remember Ryan to The Doug Gottleib Show is
brought to you by the good folks at Farmers. At Farmers,
we've seen almost everything, so we know how to cover
almost anything when it's game time. Having experienced players stay
ahead of the game put their experience into play. At
Farmers dot com. Are Farmers. Last night, Russell Westbrook was
five of one. That's in game four. He did not
(01:06):
make a basket of field goal in the second half,
missed a big free throw late as well as they're
trying to cut the lead from ten to eight. Only
made one free throw oh of seven from the field
and the second half. That's the worst of his career.
He's on page for the third straight postseason where Westbrook
will shoot under from the floor in the third straight
first round exit, the twenty nine time in Westbrooks playoff
(01:29):
career that he's missed at least fifteen shots, which is
eight more than any other player since Westbrook's first playoff
appearance in two thousand. Ohver Russell Westbrook is averaging a
tremble double for the third year straight. He has a
raw mark up ball player. We have created a monster
(01:52):
by becoming gross stat guy. We have completely lost sight
lost come plete site of net stats, efficiency stats. I mean, look,
we do this all the time in business where we go,
oh man, look at the gross revenue. It is so
(02:13):
much higher than it's ever been. This is one of
the things we do in college sports. As we talked
about the gross revenue that schools make, Like man, they
make this from TV, and this from radio, and this
from this and they sell booze and guess what yeah,
they make more money. They also spend more money because
everything costs more money than it's ever cost before. You
(02:35):
know what, Russell Westbrook is an H two Hummer. Remember
the H two Hummer, And you're like, man, those things
are cool looking, they're really cool. They run over stuff
that kind of look like a military vehicle, right because
they are taken from a military vehicle, But they get
(02:58):
terrible gas mileage. And nobody's kind of into that stuff anymore.
Now it's about ergonomics and efficiency. Heck, I don't know
if you know this, but one I'm not gonna sell
you on pickup trucks, but one of the pickup trucks
is in fact all aluminium. Years ago, you couldn't sell
aluminum trucks to truck I because they weren't tough enough.
(03:21):
They weren't sturdy enough. Like actually, they're just the same
as the other ones, only they're much lighter, so they
save much more on gas, so they're more efficient. Sorry,
the old school days of H two hummer are gone
and now efficiency rules the day. This is all forms
of business. I was on the phone two days ago
(03:45):
with a friend of mine and I was like, what
time do you guys meet at the office and he's like,
you know, I'll be honest with you. Our offices are
totally just for show. I don't believe my guys need
an office. You got a laptop, you got a cell phone,
you like coffee, go down and do it. It's our bucks,
it doesn't. People are more efficient than they've ever been,
(04:06):
you know. Yeah, I get things done at the time
which I want to get things done. It's much the way.
You can download this show on a podcast form if
you want to be efficient that way. We have an
unbelievable list of guests. Quinnin Williams from Alabama, DK Metcalf
from Ole, miss Dwayne Haskins from Ohouse State, Chris spieland
Ohouse State guy but an NFL and Fox analyst and
(04:26):
a Fox Sports radio draft host. He'll join us. We
got so much good draft stuff. But you know what,
like if at some point in the day you gotta
go do something else, don't worry. We have the efficiency
plan for you. You You can stick with us on radio
wherever you listen to us on our hundreds of affiliates nationwide,
or you want to do so more concise fashion down
on the podcast. You We're fine. I get it. I
(04:49):
got a life too. Chris Haynes, By the way, we'll
join us later on the show Yahoo NBA. Inside's gonna
join us in a fifteen minutes. But by by constantly
affirming that Russ of Westbrook is playing the right way
and nothing's wrong, and what's wrong is us not with you?
We're like, how long this year have I said the
(05:09):
shooting was a problem. It wasn't just the free throws.
Three point shooting is not getting better, and the league,
everyone else is you can't do the in a vacuum thing.
Not a vacuum. He's averaging and triple double, yes, but
this is not a vacuum. You're in a sport where
there's more possessions and he still dominates the basketball and
(05:32):
more possessions, more shots, is more rebounds and more opportunities
for assists. And then yeah, he ever just double figures.
But I mean, look, dude, if you play thirty five
minutes in the NBA, you're gonna average double figures. That
doesn't do anything for me. And it's not just that
he's not a good shooter. It's twofold. He's not improving
as a shooter, and he keeps shooting like he is
(05:54):
improving as a shooter. Russell Westbrook shout out for two
thousand the reason his NBA career he's below. We don't
need to see more of Rust Wilson A go like man,
you know this is kind of weird that he's missing
all these shows. No, it's not, you know. I mean,
we've seen enough to know this is who he is.
(06:20):
And then you have the sideshow of not wanting to
answer Barry Trammell's questions. And for for the record, Barry
Trammels a calumnist for the Oklahoman. He's also he does
sports radio as well. He's pretty opinionated. But it's not
like he's a he's it's not like he's for for
the for the state. He's the most opinionative calumnist, but
(06:40):
one I don't know anybody who legitimately picks up the
newspaper anymore. That's not to diminish Barry, because he's a
good writer too. I don't agree with all his opinions,
but I'd always have him on the show. I don't
care like that doesn't just I mean the the Trailblazers
are winning this series from the time the all is
(07:00):
tipped up to the time the buzzer sounds, and then
after the game in the post game where c J
McCall was like, look, we were sweep last swept last year,
and I was embarrassed, and so we made it up
to like, they're not they're playing without Joseph nir Kits,
they're starting center. And I'm not putting all of the
blame on Russell Westbrook, but dude, at some point, it's
(07:23):
your team. You keep taking more shots, you keep missing
more shots, and you keep kind of trying to jam
that square peg into a round hole and it ain't working.
And then oh yeah, by the way, while it's not
all of your fault, you and your teammates are getting
lit up by two guard guys who play the same
position you do. So I think this whole thing is fascinating.
(07:48):
But we're as much to blame as Russell Westbrook is
to blame because we champion those gross stats during the
year and we turn a blind eye to the lack
of efficiency. Efficiency rules the day, a efficiency heck in
the NFL. This week's to me about the NFL Draft efficiency?
What do you do on third down? You know, do
(08:09):
you turn to turn do you turn to football over?
Same thing? In basketball? We we want to say that
the Virginia's Virginia's offense is boring. You know what it is.
It's actually the most efficient offense in college basketball. They
don't turn the basketball over, They get a shot almost
every time, and they score points per possession more than
anybody in the in the sport efficiency rules to day. Well,
(08:34):
and just because we want the three point shots are
the way of the future, Like, look, at some point
you gotta realize, now the three point shooter. You're open
for a reason. And I think it's amazing. I don't
think it's I don't believe it's the top line of
(08:55):
why Kevin Durant left the Thunder. I don't. I don't
think it's one of the top three reason that he
left the Thunder. But it is interesting that Kevin Durant
leaves the Thunder goes to Golden States a two time
finals m v P. He played remarkably well in Game
three and yesterday in Game four he's talking about Clay
Thompson was awesome. But didn't k D have an efficient
(09:15):
thirty three? I think he did. He continues to thrive
and succeed on a basketball court. Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook continues
to struggle on a basketball court. And you can give
me the well k D left, but he's got Paul George,
who I think everyone believes he's not quite Kevin Durant,
but he's not too shabby, even though he's playing with
a bum shoulder right now. So I don't put all
(09:39):
the blame on Russell Westbrook. I blame us, I blame pundans,
I blame people who look at gross stats. I blame
NBA people as well, who just I blame Twitter, you know,
who have championed his style of play, and and he's
really he makes mean faces, he rocks the baby. He
rocks the baby. I don't even know why that's supposedly
a cool thing, Rocky the baby. Right, Okay, just make
(10:04):
more shots, fewer turnovers, and take make good plays on defense.
But hey, hey, you know, you know nine nine five
one is what we should be concerned with. How efficient
are you in any business you're in now is what
(10:24):
your boss will. I don't know how many hours you
were at the job, What did what did you do
during that time? You know, I got in about four
am and then I well, you're playing solitaire, and then
you took a nap at work, then you had a
two hour you had a two hour lunch. Like I'd
much prefer the guy that gets in, you know, at
nine thirty and does not stop working until twelve thirty.
(10:46):
Then he goes has a fifteen minute lunch and then
works until three thirty and gets way more done. That's
the way the world is working, and Russell Westbrook is
working in the opposite direction, and it just gets exposed
in the playoffs year after year after year. He's not
the only reason that they're losing, and he's not the
only reason for the problem. We're just as much part
(11:06):
of the problem because we champion gross stats, not efficient stats.
So stop with the triple double stuff because it doesn't
really matter. That's what everyone who's really smart has been saying.
And now you're like, oh, I kind of get it. Yes,
he's averaging twenty one point three eight point three rebounds,
nine point eight assists, which you would think is great
(11:28):
until you realize six from three, he's shooting his average
at thirty from three point range, and he's actually shooting
better at the free throw line than he does in
the regular season at but he's averaging four and a
half turnovers a game at a high usage clip and
shooting a terrible percentage from the floor. Meanwhile, the guys
that he's guarding are being far more efficient with a
similar or lesser usage rating. Be sure to catch live
(11:52):
editions of The Doug dot Leap Show week days in
noon eastern three pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio. Chris Haines is a senior NBA
writer for Y'all Who's Sports. You can fall him on
Twitter at Chris B. Haines and check out the Posted
Up podcast with Chris Haynes. Um. When I say Oklahoma
City Trailblazers series, what do? What's you? What's the first
(12:16):
thing out of your mouth? Um? The Dame, the dominance
of Dame. Um. You know, just just the composer that
he showed throughout the series. Uh, you know, he's just
taking really control of the series, of the game plan.
You can see at times, especially the last two games
(12:37):
on the road, when it seems like okay see made
a run and got the fans all upout their seat,
You've seen kind of day control the pace, and he
did a lot of that last night when when okay,
so he was trying to make their run. And uh,
I just like the composer he's playing with, because obviously
the matchup between him and Russ has been what everybody's
(12:57):
in salivating over and talking about. And he's just been
real even killed man. I definitely think he's been key
to this series thus far. And he's why, you know,
they're one way away from the mast to the second
round doug Otlive Show here on Fox Sports Radio. I
mean I could go, I could go a bunch of
different directions, all right. Um, you know that that's an
(13:19):
incredible to some in Portland's backcourt, But here we have
Russell Westbrook, who, for the third and secutive years average
of trouble double and I'm told that he's historically great
because of it. But it's a third straight year where
he's just so inefficient in the playoffs in spite of
the fact that he has plenty of talent on that team.
Maybe they don't have enough shooting, but it's not that
that's a team the last two years devoid of talent.
(13:40):
How much of this is um? Uh kind of kind
of picks apart the argument that he's an all time
great because of the triple doubles in the regular season
with what he's doing the postseason. Think with this series
in particular, Look, there there's always been people who criticized
Westbrook in his game, and you can't argue with the
(14:01):
with the way he dominates the game in that fashion,
We've never seen anybody do what he's don doing with
the triple doubles. But I think especially in this series,
and I think what people are recognizing that, uh, just
because you get triple doubles doesn't mean you're clearly impact
in the game, and that has beneficial to you too.
(14:22):
And uh, and I just take this series by day
when you're talking about leadership qualities and knowing how to
make the right decision at the right time and crucial
parts of the game. You know, triple doubles don't tell
that story. But if you're watching the game, if you
have observant game is doing all of that. He's controlling
the game, he knows where to pick his spots, um
(14:44):
and then you know it having these emotions as well,
you know all those leadership in taligible there just having
a knock to hit the big shot and knowing what
to take a great shot knowing the past, I mean
the way he threaded that meaning with the past to
kind of close the game out last that was an
amazing That is an amazing pass and for people, for
people didn't see it, Like I don't know how many
you guys stayed up late to watch that game. But
(15:05):
late in the game, Oklahoma City's trapping having in bounds.
I think it was a nine point game at that
point in time, maybe he was down to seven um
and Damian Lillard caught it what would be called the
Coffin corner. That that's the corner right by the mid
court line and sideline, and he's double teamed and he
calmly threw a ball like an alley youp almost to
(15:26):
the right side of the rim. But it wasn't like
anybody was wide open. It was that mo Hearkless who
caught the ball, you know, I mean, he just kind
of calmly threw it and he got there and they
laid the ball in and that was that was the game.
That was the game. Man. You know his size, you know,
he was amongst trees and I think Westbrook was playing
free safety back there and that that was his assignment,
and he kind of I don't know how you fake
(15:48):
Westbrook out, but he got Westbrook to bite in one
direction and that's all the space he needed. And that
was just a phenomenal pass right there, and that pretty
much closed it out. And so that's what I'm talking about.
I'm just talking about little things like that, like making
big plays and crucial parts of the game and that
that and all those things that I've mentioned. Triple double
(16:10):
doesn't tell the whole story, but that does, and I
think that's I think that's what people are starting to realize. Okay,
so what happens in Okahoma City if they lose a
fourth game, I think they gotta definitely look at retol
that roster. Obviously they're they're they're investing in Westbrooks and
Paul George and rightfully so, but they gotta get shooters
(16:32):
around if when you got penetrating um guards like Paul
George and Westbrook around you in this day and age
and this Arab basketball, you need supreme shooters. They don't
have that. They have, you know, shooters at home, and
that's pretty much with every role player. They shoot good
at home, but you need guys who are going to
be sharp shooters. You know, on the road and at home.
(16:53):
And then another thing is that they gotta really considered,
you know, it is Westbrook um being so bald dominant?
Is that what's best for the team? You know? And
I know people are saying, well, he's not bald numb
and Paul George does a lot. What I mean by
that is, does Westbrook have to bring the ball up
majority of time? Does his does his past directly have
(17:15):
to lead to an assist? Can't you make this one
more even playing field where the ball is moving? You know?
Is that going to be best for the Thunder organization
moving forward? They really got to think all this because
you know, at certain points, I know, we get criticized
for Basha Westbrook and you know people point to these
triple double numbers, but you know, if this is three
first round exits, I mean, at some point, you know
(17:38):
you gotta start pointing the finger at the Thunder and
started pointing finger out Westbrook and say we didn't do
something differently because this surely clearly isn't working. I agree
with you, I just I don't. You're not gonna read
tool Russell Westbrook right like he can't. You're not gonna
like Okay, now you're gonna play without the basketball. I
mean they I know that they brought in Dennis Shrewder
(17:59):
to play some point alongside him. Um, and I don't
you can't trade him away, right, They already trade away
too m vps. You can't trade away a third m
v P. They're just like stuck together. And I think
the only thing you can do is just go all
shooting all the time around him is probably the only
way to do it. You know, that's gonna be the
(18:19):
best that's gonna be the best bet. You know, get
get somebody, you know, you need to shoot this around
you got it. That's the only way, Um, defense are
gonna be able to probably play Westbrook's honists. And I
think that's that bows well in his favor. When you
got sharp suits around, you can't help as much. Uh.
You know. I was talking with Jim Jackson last week's
Gonna Speak for Yourself with Locket Marcellus Doug and he
(18:41):
pointed out, but we had the same, you know, conversation.
He said, until Russ gets a coach that he respects, uh,
somebody who who has the clasche who has the respect
of his peers. Until Russ gets a coach like that,
he don't think Russ will be able to take it
to that level. And I found that interesting. I don't
(19:02):
know if that's the case, I would I would lean towards,
you know, just we're tooling the roster a little bit more,
getting the better supporting cast. But you know that's Jim
Jackson saying that about the coach. And obviously, you know
Billy Dobbin. I think he has some questions that to
ask it for if they do false shoot in this
first one as well, because he has been living up
to the market. No, I would, I would tend to
(19:23):
agree that, Like, look, you'd like to get but who
is the coach? Like all of these imaginary coaches out there, Like,
all right, tell me who the coaches? Tell me the
guy is. Remember one, you're gonna go move to Oklahoma City.
That ain't easy, right, And you gotta get somebody who's
gonna move to Oklahoma City and buy in. And Russ
had like, there's all these different qualifications for what people
have to have, And you know, I generally tend to
(19:47):
agree with you. But we've also created this monster with
this huge contract where you can bring in whoever you want,
Russ is gonna be Russ because he's untradeable with that deal,
So you know, and based upon who he is and
the name Recking, he is that franchise, He's their franchise
player without any sort of question. Chris Haines joining us
on the Doug Olive Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um,
(20:10):
should we make a big deal over the Sean Marks
suspension and the hullabaloo that that took place in Brooklyn
yesterday or yesterday the day before in the game day before. No.
I look, I like it. I like I think Si
Marks is going to bat Force team. You know, the
brook the brook of that franchise. Feel like they've been
(20:31):
getting holds this whole series, not getting the right calls.
I feel like it beat has got away with a
couple of flagrant fouls. Um, I like it. I like it.
I like I like the Jared Dudley fighting this going
at those guys, and I think overall, you know, most
people agree that feel definitely, you know, just has a
better roster, and so you'd like to see that fight
(20:52):
in the young squad like that, And that's why when
you look at some of these teams over the summer
that's going to have cap space and and you look
at the that's a portecast that those teams had. That's
you know, that's why the Brooklyn NEPs is the top
of the board. But you know, I like it. It's
a good series. Okay. Uh, now we have a real
series in the East. It feels like we're gonna have
a real two real series in the East, right eventually
(21:12):
be Philly and Toronto, and we're gonna have the Bucks
against the Celtics. Um, did we learn anything the Celtics
were pushing a couple of these games against the Pacers,
playing without Victor Oladipot. Did we learn anything about the
Celtics to make us think that they're still dominant over
the Bucks like they were last year? I don't know,
if you know what. Look, it's a start. It's definitely
(21:35):
a start in the right direction. I mean, they swept,
they got through it. You know, even though those some
close games, they persevere, They made players down the stretch,
uh to get a couple of those games, and so
that's good. I think their on course to be hitting
their stride at the right time. Now, I don't know
if that that stride translate to beat Milwaukee four straight times.
(21:56):
But I think it, I think it's sets it up
to where we're gonna have a real in the entertaining
series that has the potentially to go to distance. I
think Kyrie has kind of found his niche and you know,
he's still often know his that Phield goal percents hasn't
been you know what we've going to expect. But he's
making when he plays, he's diving for loose ball there,
you know, getting them out and transition. So they're they're going,
(22:17):
they're they're going well. And like like, I'm looking forward
to it, you know, Milwaukee, Boston to Rono, Philadelphia. I'm
looking forward to the East compete. It's the first time
I can say that in a while because I think
for for for the last you know, the last few years,
we really didn't pay attention to the East until they
got to the finals. And so the West we're gonna
(22:38):
have Rockets, I mean Rockets versus Clippers, event I mean
Rockets versus Warriors. Eventually. Uh, Clay finally got it going.
You know, there's always one that seems like there's always
one Clay game in every postseason playoff series. With with
with the Warriors. Maybe lost in Clay's unbelievable performance is
that Durant didn't just have Friday Night where he had
(23:00):
he had thirty three had. It feels like they're starting
to figure out get back into that kind of playoff
warrior mode. Is that fair? Now? They're they're getting there.
They're getting there, and you know nobody's And that's the
thing when you know, when de Marcus Cousins went down,
you know, people are making a big fuss about it.
You know, he's a big piece of their team and
(23:21):
I thought he would have a really good, solid series
against Houston Marcuts, you know, being able to match up
with Capella. But you gotta remember this is gonna State Wars.
Team has a formula. The formula's been successful, you know
without De Marcus. In the case that the Marcus is
to make a miraculous uh come back at some point
(23:41):
in the finals, you know, I think that's only gonna
boat well be an extradition. But the Houston Rockets go
to State series. Man, Look, I'm looking forward to So
I'm still picking go to State because I don't necessarily
still like, it's still hard for me to believe that
this Houston team is better than what the A team,
um that almost took on the State down last US year.
But the Rockets believe that. The p J. Tucker Uh,
(24:04):
he believed that as well. And so if you got
the confidence and that that that's that's half the battle
right there. So it should be good. Stug Goli Shure
you're on Fox Sports Radio. Steve kerr Uh said that
going next question is dangerous for the league, and I thought,
and I look, I don't know how you feel, Chris.
(24:24):
I tweeted this out and it's got you know, like
a couple of thousand retweets and people commenting on it.
Might take his and he was obviously talking about Russell Westbrook. UM,
but I think, look, Greg Papovitch is just as much
to blame, you know, with not wanting to answer sideline
reporter questions. It's like, look, all these guys are actually
super bright, right from Paul George to Russell Westbrook to
(24:44):
Greg Papovitch. When they want to give good answers, they
can and we're not asking that much of them. And
there is they they do need the media that the
media does promote all of the different parts of the NBA,
and it's more often than not good attention. I just
I wonder though, this is one of those deals where
Adam Silver's, you know, he's such a player first commissioner
(25:05):
that at some point doesn't even need to step in
and go, hey, you guys are making yourselves look ridiculous
and instead of looking like really smart, uh superstars, you
you know, you make yourself look like jerks and it
doesn't reflect well upon our league. Well, I'm wondering what
your take is. A is a guy who knows this
league so well, knows these players so well, and covers
it so well for Yahoo. Well, let me say this,
(25:28):
I'm glad you brought up because that's been on my
mind the last couple of days that you know, Popovich
has you know, has done these antics, you know, forever,
and we've applauded, applauded it, we've laughed at it, we've
we've we've we've rationalized it, said it's typical pop and
we've grown to, you know, just be accustomed to it.
(25:50):
And look, let me say this about Westbrook. I don't
agree with it. I don't like it. I don't like
it at all. The next question stuff, I think it
needs to be a professional it's part of it's part
of his job, uh to address the media. And and
that reporter that calls this, I should say, Okay, see,
he's asking very good questions that I think deserved, you know,
deserving answers. But at the same time, if we're not
(26:13):
going to address if we had, if we never addressed Pop,
then what what's the argument to address Westbrook? I see
a double standard in that. And like I said, I
think something should happen with west But why why why
was there never anything? Uh, there was never any feedback.
There was never never even any major criticism of Popavice
(26:36):
when he was doing it. You know, I remember, I
don't want to call a reporter out. I remember tweeting
something out a couple of years back up if something
Pop said, but it was it was a it was
a small he gave like a small two seconds sound bites,
and I tweeted something I can't remember what it was critical,
and the reporter came at me, Well, if you ask
(26:56):
insightful questions, you know you'll he'll he'll give you a
good you know, they're all there's always somebody you know,
ray to the But you know, I just I want
to see it both ways. I don't want to see
a look I look, I agree with you. I think that,
and and and even the pop defense pop thing a
well you know in game question like look, man, they
ask you a couple of a up questions. Just answer
(27:17):
the questions to go about your job. It's part of
the part of the job. It's not gonna kill you
and handling, you know, I think it. I think there.
I completely agree with that that they're all related, and
I think it it makes the league less likable. And
the crazy part about it is all of these guys,
people will know Russ, people know PG who's now you know,
kind of get lumped into us because he went next
question on Barry Trammel, and people know Greg Popovitch. All
(27:40):
of them would tell you like they're the world's greatest dudes,
but this is the only time we see them, and
so it casts a negative light on guys that are
really really thoughtful and can give thoughtful responses exact. This
is the national stage that you know, this is this
is a big platform. So you know, I saw people saying, well,
Russe has been doing this all season. Yeah, that that
is true, but nobody was paying attention and so now
(28:02):
you have all the casual fans and even people who
aren't fans of the NBA. Now you got them watching
and tuning in, and this is what you're seeing, and
so it's not a good reception. It's not a good look.

noon Eastern three pm Pacific. The NFL Draft is this Thursday,
and we do have a couple of guests over the
next two hours that they're gonna have their names called
early and they're gonna be discussed often. The first is
the Big Ten Player of the Year, Ohio State quarterback
Dwayne Haskins through fifty touchdown passes this year. He joins
(28:45):
the show on behalf of Old Spices new all New
Fresher collection featuring five new body washes and real benefits
forged by real ingredients like moisturization and exfoliation because Old
Spice knows men have skin too. It's available at Walmart.
Thanks for making this part of your day. Dwayne. You
know you're really busy. What what's it like to go
(29:06):
through this process? You know, you've had your name bandied
about as a top prospect and some believe that you're
you might be falling in these mock drafts. What's it
like from your perspective? I could care less, man, biggestly
I could do is worry about v and of course
those things do coaked about attention I don't have, don't
(29:26):
have cable. Everything that I want to see about social
media something that I allowed to see. The biggest thing
I have to do is is to be able to
just be mentally and physically strong, and you're ready for
this season and you're ready for every key year to
do all I can to be prepared for the season. So,
you know, it's been it's been a lot of process.
Was ready to get back to work. Your your your
(29:47):
former head coach Urban Meyer went on to Fox Sports
Radio last week and he's like, look, he's incredible. He
said nothing but good things. He did say that, look,
you've only started for a year, and if it was
up to him, you'd go somewhere you could learn from
a veteran. What's your When when you hear that, what's
your what's what? What goes through your mind? Yeah? Definitely
(30:10):
for me, just being able to learn for somebody and
being definitely something that'll be helped me in my career.
I learned from j t Ohouse State, and that's somebody
that you know, I learned a great deal from. And uh,
you know, the biggest thing for me is this, whoever
seem picksby, I gotta be ready, whether that's year one,
year two, year three, or whatever the case may be.
I have to do what I do do for myself
and for my teammates. So whoever team picksby, they're gonna
(30:34):
get your hard work and quarterback and you guys gonna
leave the team. And uh, the biggest thing I can
do is just be ready for the moment. All right.
There was video, of course, of you during the college
football season, back when you were a kid saying I'm
gonna be quarterback at Ohio State. You told us last
time you joined us that there was video that existed
of you, and it was like foreshadowing of who you
(30:55):
who you knew you would play for in the pros.
When will we see that video? Well, it all depends
on where I go to. So there's more than one
of the videos saying that. So we'll see what happens.
And you know they're looking forward to hear my name
calling on Thursday, and hopefully, you know my my fortune
telling skills are still in tact, So we'll see what happened. Okay,
(31:15):
does you what what colors does your suit have? And
does it give away any sort of thought as to
where you might be going. I'm not going to the draft,
so I'll be bowlding comfortably in some cent of shoes
and a T shirt and it won't be wearing a suit.
But you know, the biggest thing for me is just
to be comfortable and have fun and enjoy this moment.
You only get drafted once. And you know, I wish
(31:37):
I could foreshadow where I'm going because I don't know
where I'm going. So you know, the biggest thing I
can do is just have my hats ready for every
team could pick me and be excited. Um, okay, so
what are you gonna do? Like you got to Like,
I just can't imagine the nervous energy you're gonna have
on Thursday, you know, because and and like you know,
you're gonna have the whole day and then they'll be
(31:58):
TV cameras and you're supposed to like, look, you're gonna
be with family and friends and you're not gonna go
and do all that stuff. But there's still this whole
build up to it. Have you planned out your day
on Thursday? Yeah, I'm gonna get a haircut. Um, wait,
hold on, hold, let's let's go through this. Let's go
who cut your hair? Um guy named Anton, he cuts
his equal Elliotts here in Braxton Miller and all those guys.
(32:22):
So he said, are you getting into college? Okay? So
Anton is Anton? Does he have Is he gonna have
special instructions or is it gonna be kind of the
standard dayne Haskins Luck said, the way asks cut, make
sure it keeps to clean, don't don't scratch my head up,
and you know, make sure my hair looks straight. But
you know, I get a haircut and then after that,
I think we're the spent some time with my family.
(32:44):
And my sister wants to get her first tattoo, So
I'm wanna take her to go and do that. That'll
spend some time with her and uh, you know, actually
what I'm more excited for it to the draft is
to see Avengers. So I want to go see Avengers
fitty end game one thirty in the morning after the
dry So I'm more excited actually to see that than
to the actual draft night. Let's talk Avengers endgame. Here's
(33:06):
the problem. The last Avengers, like a spoiler alert, half
of all the half of everybody you know, died, like right,
So the expectations like they can't kill off Black Panther
that quick, can they? Man? I honestly think they're gonna
come back. How they're gonna come back, I don't know,
but I hope they killed you know. So that's I'm
definitely excited to see what happens with that and see
how that how that works out, because definitely they gotta
(33:28):
they gotta get the Stones back. Okay, so you you get,
you get drafted, You're going to the movies. What does
Dwayne Haskins and like, look, you you know you're you're
in the best shape of your life. You're ready. But
this is a cheap day. This is a celebration day.
You go up to the counter one third in the morning,
what are you gonna get? You getting popcorn? Aren't you.
I've got a big popcorn guy. Man, you ever had
(33:50):
those did little live cream live cream things? Talk about?
I'll probably get those in the I might get a
popcorn just just just probably has some kettle to it,
maybe something like that. I don't know, but I have
to drink that ice cream? What to drink? Yeah, I
will go with the slurpy man, but I gotta I
gotta watch the figure, So I probably just go with
(34:11):
the water bottle or something. Hold on, hold on, Dwayne,
how many days in your life are you going to
be drafted in the NFL? How many? Hold on? How many?
How many days in your life will you be drafting
in the NFL? This one? Okay, so that's a slurpy daysibility.
I'll get it. I don't I don't know. I don't
know the theater you're going to, like, look, there's some
(34:32):
high dollar theaters where you can go. You can have
an alcoholic beverage, right, you go going to a din
in theater. So I'll probably ordered that for sure. Yeah,
vanilla chocolate or are you gonna go like cookies and cream? MoMA?
And now we're talking, you're you're going all ice creamed
out like this is you're going DIBs and cookies and cream.
That's good. I would say, I think you gotta go popcorn.
(34:54):
You like some hot popcorn, like, but if you don't
have a ho popcorn guy, I can't make you into
a popcorn guy, right la poker. My dad loves popcorns,
So we're gonna definitely want to eat something. It's not
gonna be the first thing that I ordered, but it
would be definitely on the video. Um to share this
with your dad, right like, because it's one of the
things that that I'm big on. You know, my dad
was a big part of my athletic career. What's what's that?
(35:17):
What's that like? To share it with with your family?
It's gonna be great to be able to share with
my family and my parents and me and my dad
had a lot of long card drives after the game,
but they were great that some days of the word
so does this to be able to to have that
moment with them and be able to see's there the
smallsor to face his probably tears of joy as well.
And you know, I'm just excited to be be a
(35:39):
part of the NFL. It's been a dream come true.
For me and uh, I'm looking forward to being a
part of a great franchise and with a whole bunch
Super Bowls. Last thing, most important thing, what's the tattoo
your sister is gonna get? Okay, so she's gonna get
our Grandma Joyce tattooed on theres and mom and my
dad's mommet just she wanted to get that tattooed on
because she wanted to make sure that she's always there.
(36:02):
And my dad always says that my sister reminds her
of her his mom very much a lot. So to
be able to do that for my dad though, he
will enjoy that very much, it sounds like a pretty
special family. Hey man, listen, we wish you nothing but
the best. Are thanks to Old Spice for having you
on good Luck on Thursday, and maybe more than anything,
next time we talked to you, you'll be a member
(36:23):
of the NFL and you can give us a complete
review of Avengers. Fair enough, Yes, sounds great,
