Speaker 2 (00:19):
See all those people running out there but taking their
victory laps for something that they should not be running for.
Kerry Rhoads Week twelve in the NFL, providing us drama
in Dallas, a miserable afternoon for one quarterback in title town.
But we start in Sin City where Shador Sanders and
(00:41):
the Browns get a victory, his first career win as
an NFL quarterback. And now all people can talk about
is Shador Sanders. Wait did he play yesterday? Sure did?
Saw a whole ordeal from Las Vegas and we Carrie
(01:01):
was so involved in this game, not for Shador, and
this is the bigger point. Carrie wanted to know if
the Browns would have more sacks than the Raiders actually
had points. I did right? Was that was the competition?
Was the final? But that tells the whole story, But
(01:22):
the story continues to be about Shador Sanders and the
talking heads that supported Shador Sanders and felt he should
have been a first round pick and should have been
starting a long, long time ago. They are the ones
who are running around the track right now with their flags,
with their banners, we told you so, We told you so,
(01:42):
and Carrie, the race is not over yet. In fact,
the race is just begun. And the reason that I
have the problem with the victory laps that people are taking.
You could take a win or there's nothing wrong with that,
nothing wrong with hey, I'll take that win today, I'll
grab that. It's the fact that they think that this
is over and the fact that Shador Sanders, even as
(02:06):
now the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns, as Kevin
Stefanski made the announcement today, everything that is led up
to this point has really been Shador doing it to himself.
And you may say that the Cleveland Browns are the
ones who were blocking should Or Sanders in getting an
opportunity to be a starting quarterback. Shoudor turned down an
opportunity to be drafted by the Baltimore Ravens. You know why,
(02:29):
because they felt he had a better opportunity to start
somewhere else. And I'm sorry, I don't know if the
Raiders are an NFL caliber team outside of Max Crosby
right now. So taking a victory lap over a team
that has fired sixty seven percent of their coordinators within
the last month, I'm sorry. I am just not cashing
(02:49):
all of my chips in right now. If I am
backing Shador Sanders.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Dan, you're right, but don't leave out bruck Bowers. He's
the NFL guy as well.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
That's true or not.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
We got they got, they got. They got two exciting
whites is what they call. That's what they call the Lakers,
the Lakers trio of La Rabia, Reeves and uh Luca.
But anyway, no, when it comes back to this, you
know how it is, man, it's I mean, everybody's been
waiting for this moment. I think even you know you
said the victory lap guys have been waiting on this moment.
I also think the naysayers have been waiting on this
moment as well, right So if he was not to
(03:21):
win that game yesterday or have a terrible performance, they
will be right in front of this thing as well.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
So you know.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
I think it's one of those things where we do
it a lot, and I do it. I do it
a lot as well. Like I told you, so I
did that thing, I made that pick. I think this
is their chance to do it, Dan, So I'm not
gonna slight them that way. I'm gonna let them have
their moment. But like you said, this is just a start,
and they played a terrible team, so let's not. Let's
not have the conclusion that he's an NFL start and
(03:47):
guy right now, we're gonna find out in the next
couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
What I want just a little bit. H Kenny Loggins,
the Great Kenny Loggins had a song called mean Me
half You know that song. Yes, it's a great song.
Kenny's great. Yes, meet me halfway. You don't even have
to meet me halfway. Just take a step towards my
(04:10):
direction a little bit. Just be a little different. And
that's what I just wanted Shador Sanders to do, is
just just be a rookie, be someone who's learning, have
a little bit of that, show us some of that.
And you thought maybe because he had the last laugh
yesterday and getting his first career win, that that would
(04:34):
be the case, judge for yourself. Chador was CBS after the.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Win, when it is crazy, it's amazing, you know, off
for one week of practice, you know what I mean?
Just one week of practice, So imagine you know what
a full off season looked like. It get dangerous, but
it's just a one week of practice. So I'm just
truly thankful. You know that everything happened.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
So Shador now has not only imagine what I could
do if the coach has actually cared about me. He said,
imagine what I'm gonna do when I'm the Browns starting
quarterback in twenty twenty six. Yeah, like that's what it is.
There's there's no meet me halfway. There is no step
towards it. And that's why I say with all of
(05:18):
this is you can take your victory laps. And we
watched the game yesterday and there were great throws by
shoot Or we saw great throws against Baltimore that actually
ended up incomplete in that game when he ended up
taking over for Dylan Gabriel. It's just meet us halfway
and take a step towards our direction. And if you're
taking a victory lap today, I think you need to
(05:40):
take a step in that direction. We have to meet
in the middle at some point. Yesterday was a great
moment for the Cleveland Browns in winning an NFL game,
led by their defense that had ten secs. Yes, yes
I could.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
No, I'm not gonna go that far, but I'm gonna
say this, the one person that shouldn't be taking the
victory lap is the guy that just took a victory lap.
In that sound bite for him, a lot of the
stuff and a lot of the stuff that you know people
don't like about him was displayed right after the game.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
So as good as he was in moments.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yesterday, as in control as he looked for the most
part of the game, and you know, as a rookie,
that is impressive. But he doesn't have to let everybody
know that right now. It's one game and when that
flips and when he has that bad game, will he
still have that same energy.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You got to be even killed as a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
You can show your emotions on the field, you can
fire your guys up. There are different ways to lead
a team. Don't come out and take don't come out
and take a victory lap. You're showing up the coaches.
You're showing up the GM all these people that already
came out early and said, you know, you know, this
is a fifth round guy, he's gonna learn, he's not
gonna take any They've already put you in the category.
(06:50):
And now that you got a chance, the thing you
just say, like showing them up and showing up the
other quarterbacks in that room. That's just not the way
to do it. So I don't like that sound bite
at all. I like that he's happy and the static
after the win, but don't do that because it's going
to come back to buy to you. This is the
world now where everything is actually captured back in the
day where we could say something to have a conversation
(07:12):
off no off social media, and nobody else would hear it,
but us two, everybody hears it.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
I also think that there's a point where you've played this,
where you've played the game where people were talking about
the Jets or the Cardinals during your time there, and
the public has no idea what's actually going on by
the scenes, no zero idea. Yes, so their perception of
what is going on is not the reality that you
are dealing with day to day. And I feel that
there's a reality that Kevin Stefanski is dealing with We're
(07:38):
going to get to his locker room speech, which I'm
very curious to hear what you had to say. But first,
this was Kevin Stefanski following Shador's performance after yesterday's win
in Las Vegas.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
You saw a lot of what Schador does well on
the field today, athlety to make that play off schedule
when we were outmanned, and protection get the ball down
the field. So there's a lot that he's doing well.
There's a lot that he's working on, which is what
I appreciate about young guys.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
I want to get better, so I praise and talking
about the plays that sch Dort made on the field
in that game. Yeah, So nothing wrong with that, no,
but it took him a day. This is something that
our executive producer, Jason Stewart had wondered about of why
a delay? Why did you not hear what we heard today? Jason?
(08:26):
Is that fair enough to say? Is now Dylan Gabriel's
cleared concussion protocol and Kevin Stefanski is name should or Sanders?
Are you wondering why there was a delay in that announcement? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:37):
I think Stefanski has handled this whole thing wrong, like
from way back, even at the draft. Okay, and I
think he's been he has ownership in his ears, and
he's got a lot of people in his ear. Yeah,
but like, why not name him the starter after yesterday's game,
Like take advantage of that momentum coming off the win
and just being like, he's going to be our guy,
because today you have twenty four hours sitting on it
(09:00):
and this wave of criticism, and I think he deserves
that criticism. If he would have stated that Dylan Gabriel
is getting his job back today, that would have made
sense to delay it. But if you were just going
to make up the decision anyways, why not say it
yesterday and you wouldn't have gotten the last like twenty
four hours of crap.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
I'll tell you why. I'll tell you why, Jason. Number one,
you don't want to make anybody bigger than anybody in
that situation when it comes to the team, right, so
the locker room and all that stuff. I can understand it.
And also he still has to evaluate how he played.
Now you saw it in real time, and as a
head coach, you wouldn't know that. But you want to
(09:37):
see the tape and see if he's going through the
progressions the right way, if he's doing everything the right way.
Obviously operations in the game it looks that way, but
they are little minutia things that happens as a quarterback,
as any position in the league. You just want to
make sure that he's operating in that space. So I
can understand why it wasn't yesterday. I'm not, as I guess,
taken aback by that, but the way he handled it
(09:58):
early on, I am so I agree with you on
that on that position.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
But I'll say this, you also have to tell Dylan
Gabriel that you're not the starter anymore. Yes, So, like
there's a conversation that he can't just come in, well
I want a great wing, guys, like we found a quarterback.
You know, like you can't you can't do that as
a head coach. But there is friction, and I think
Kevin Stefanski, in the way that he praised shador in
talking postgame is a step towards Shadoor. And you guys
(10:23):
may be right that the Stefanski hasn't hasn't handled this correctly,
but I do think that he is trying to make
that step forward. Honestly, I don't think he's trying to
save his job. There were other reasons to move on
from Kevin Stefanski if the Browns ever wanted to. This
is not the reason to do so. But the reason
why I feel that there is some still some resentment
(10:43):
and at least Kevin Stefanski took a step his way
was from what Kevin Stefanski said in the locker room
after last night's win against the Raiders. This was the
speech Kevin Stefanski gave his team after winning twenty four
to ten. Hey, how about that road.
Speaker 7 (11:00):
What stayed resilient together? Like I told you, we needed
to write stay resilient together, and we fought together. How
about Gage's big punt returnal Discussioncy? How about Corey every
(11:21):
single time you're out there pinning those guys doing your job.
Great offense, wasn't perfect?
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Wasn't perfect?
Speaker 3 (11:29):
How about that big play.
Speaker 7 (11:29):
By Sam at the end, I'd be huge playing Q,
huge play, Harold making a big play and then.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Another rookie making his first start. Nice job, Shador, welcome.
There's that old saying save the best for last. How
about that defense? Okay, so we got we got a
big road win, a punt return. We talked about the punter,
we talked about Dylan Samson, and then nice job Shador
(12:00):
Stefanski's I get it like he's over it. But the
point is is they sacked Geno Smith ten times yesterday
in the goal to goal situations. They took shud Or
Sanders out and put Gwynshod Judkins in as a wildcat.
The first touchdown pass was a pass out in the
flat up fourteen to three that Dylan Sampson did most
(12:21):
of the work on. Yes, correct, Yes, So this is
why you shouldn't take a victory lap. And I think
Kevin Stefanski realizes that is there some mojo? Is there
some energy? Yes, there was mojo and energy after their
first preseason game carry against the Carolina Panthers. Remember that
when Shodoor all of a sudden got the start and
we're saying, oh my goodness, what are you doing and
what are you doing Cleveland Browns? And he went out
(12:42):
and he played pretty well in his first preseason start. Yeah,
a win against the Raiders is not the end all
be all. So if you want to cash in your chips,
that's fine, cash him in now. But the point is
is there is still so much to go. If shod
Or Sanders is going to be the guy that he
seems to think, he is, a whole lot left.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
A whole lot left. Man, This thing is just the beginning.
And even when you think you've arrived, you haven't arrived.
And so you'll learn that, and he'll learn that as
we go on, because, like I said, and you've said
as well, it's about to get tougher, right, He's going
to play some teams that are fighting for playoffs and
have bigger things to play for. I mean, the Vegas
(13:23):
Raiders aren't in that bunch. So we'll see what happens
moving forward. But yeah, I just want you to do it.
And I've said it when we've talked about him at
nauseum early on, even before he played a game. Is
just you know, be mature, Be the mature man in
the room. Be aware that everything you say is recorded,
and understand that. Not to tuck away and not be yourself,
(13:45):
but you know, just understand that with the good, there
is good, but there's always some stuff that you can
get better at. And I think that's the process he
needs to learn right now.

Speaker 6 (14:08):
Isn't that comment? And I want to hear it again too,
because is this not on that list of things that
you you would say to your guys over like a
celebratory drink afterwards in private, but you just can't say
that out loud.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
The practice thing and when.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
It's crazy, it's amazing, you know, off for one week
of practice, you know what I mean? This one week
of practice, so imagine you know what a full off
season looked like. It get dangerous, but it's just a
one week of practice. So I'm just truly thankful. You
know that everything happened.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
An What an opportune time to throw your coach under
the bus, right, let's do it on National TV. Let's
Kevin Stefanski beat beat beep. Now I know why he
was fifth in the order of congratulating guys in the lockers.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
And Dan the thing about the NFL everybody talks, and
so Kevin Stefanski may not be his coach for long, Right,
that's just the NFL. But Kevin Stefans is going to
get a job somewhere else, and he's gonna tell all
the other guys around him all the things and all
the experiences he's had in the place that he's been at. Right,
And so that's the thing about the NFL. It's such
(15:18):
a gossip league. You talk about locker room talk, sure,
but it's a gossip league too. So if something happens
in one place, you'll be surprised to know that the
other team in Green Bay knows exactly what what's being
said or what's going on behind closed doors, because everybody
has somebody that they got on different places in college.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Knew that guy, I played with this guy.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Do not throw your head coach under the bus. You
never know if you need that guy again. So that's
the thing. Just take the high road. But is it
is it okay to do it in your first NFL win?
Like that's no, No, I'm kidding.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
It is not. Really hasn't done much, but your defense
has ten sacks and Dylan Sampson provided the offense. Yes,
At the opportunity. Geez, did we hear a beeping bus
of any vehicle in reverse issue? Or was speaking with
CBS in saying that.
Speaker 8 (16:09):
This is the best of the Doug gott Leab Show

Buying should be Do you have a good weekend? Carry Rhodes.
Weekend looks really good. Yeah. I actually had some fun
(16:55):
over the weekend, which.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
I normally don't you know, I'm using in the house
with my blanket up to my neck and watching football.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
But I got out a little bit. Well, we had
fun on Sunday when we were together on end Zone
Radio on a lot of sports radio every week five
o'clock Eastern, two Pacific carry and I get you through
that late window. And yesterday's late window provided some drama
with the Cowboys coming back against the Eagles Jaguars in overtime.
Top of the Cardinals. We had Schidor Sanders contest, Falcon
(17:22):
Saints also going on, Kirk Cousins getting a win? Is
the f Falcons quarterback? Just some of the things that
happened this weekend and why not go around the room
and find out however everyone else's weekend went. In a
segment we like to call love and Hate?
Speaker 8 (17:38):
What did you love?
Speaker 9 (17:39):
God?
Speaker 8 (17:39):
I love you and what did you hate?
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Meet these player Hays, Isaac Glowin cron is here, as
is Iowa Sam and our executive producer Jason Stewart. An
amazing weekend of sports. Jason, you are our resident thoughtful?
Is that what it was? Was that?
Speaker 7 (18:02):
What it was?
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Thoughtful? Skeptic?
Speaker 6 (18:03):
Thoughtful?
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Skeptic? Okay, Doug likes to call him resident hater and
always starts to hate with Jason. We're gonna start what
we love from the weekend from Jason Stewart.
Speaker 6 (18:15):
Thank you, Dan. I'll take it from here.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
I'll take it from here.
Speaker 6 (18:19):
Now you're gonna think this is contrary because the first
thing you guys are all gonna think, especially Isaac, Wait
a minute, you're a Chargers fan.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
What do you mean?
Speaker 6 (18:28):
How could you possibly say these words? I love that
the Chiefs won. I love that the Chiefs won. What
they are above five hundred, it's as opposed to under
five hundred, because they won an overtime yesterday. I've made
this point in the past, and I'm gonna keep repeating it.
I want the Chiefs to go to the playoffs and lose.
(18:49):
I don't want the end of their dynasty to come
up short of the playoffs. I don't want it to
be like, oh, it just came to a slow, boring death.
I want there to be a moment in the playoffs
where the dynasty ended, and it was that play that
misread that Sack.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
I want to be.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
Able to point out the end of the dynasty as
they lose in the playoffs. So I love that the
Chiefs won yesterday. To keep my storyline alive.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Man, the fact that he loved that, well, I think
that Tom Telesco probably agrees with you, because he said
sure the year that I'm not in the division the
Chiefs take a step back, but if they were to
go on a late push here, then it would kind
of make it be like, Okay, well I'm glad. So
I think Tom Telesco was kind of with you in
that scenario. I think every other fan of every other
(19:39):
team would want them out. I'm seeing videos and other
content of people saying if the Chiefs get in, look out. Yeah.
Do you think yesterday was example of that they had
thirty three first downs in their win against the Colts
or do you think that that actually represents a problem
that they need over I'm in a game that they
(20:01):
ended up dominating, you know, needed a late win.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Yeah, it's it's it's an interesting it's an interesting thing
when you watch them. You think, when they get in
the playoffs, because we've seen it the last ninety two years,
that they're going to find a way to win. And
so I don't know if any team that's on the
cusps of being in the playoffs, like you guys, your Chargers, Jason,
I don't think you want to see them or want
them to be sniffing the playoffs. I think you want
(20:25):
them out.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I'll say I think it's they shut down the Colts
running game and it was the overtime win yesterday. Colts
got the ball first, didn't do anything with it, and
then allowed Kansas City to just go down and big
place from Rashi. Rice think that there's some other issues
at hand more than them stopping them. I just don't
think the Colts had enough opportunities either. They kept the
ball so much away from them. So, you know, saying
(20:48):
that they shut down Jonathan Taylor, they should be kudos
for it. But if it gets five more carries, he's
known to break one. So the final four possessions for
the Colts were three.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
Now yeah, yeah, carry my analogy and as an actor,
you'll you'll relate to this. When you have invested nine
episodes in a series that you're bening in a great villain,
a great villain that has been written well performed, well,
you just don't want them to see get them see
shot in the head to end. I needed a painful death.
(21:19):
I needed to I need him to feel it. Yes,
if I'm going to invest this time in the Chiefs dynasty,
I want to see an interesting ending.
Speaker 10 (21:27):
Jab Jason wants the Chiefs to fall into a vat
of acid, like very very dramatic like Batman era of
of like a villain's death.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
And I'm meaning that all figured of course, Yeah, I
get I get that. And the point that I used
was the Patriots losing to the Titans, Tom Brady throwing
an interception that has brought back for a five yard
pick six, ending the dynasty was there was a conclusion
to that. It wasn't this empty feeling. And I think
(22:00):
that there's you know, even when you look at the
Bulls Championships of when they won three and then it ended,
there was no opportunity to cancel them out. Even in
nineteen ninety five when Jordan returned, like they got they
were beaten by the Magic in the conference semi finals.
But we never looked back and say, look at that
(22:22):
Orlando knocked them out in ninety five. We never ever
talk about a Jordan fail because he returned in March
of that year.
Speaker 10 (22:29):
I got one more thing quickly, Were you guys concerned
it all with the Chiefs performance where they had almost
five hundred yards offense, they had what thirty three first downs? Yes,
but they only had one touchdown. Yeah, they kicked a
lot of field goals, so I don't know when they
get to the postseason, maybe you're a little alarmed by that.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
I am god No, I said it yesterday with Kerry.
They completely dominated and needed to kick a field goal
in overtime to win it at the end. I don't
think that that's a great thing for Kansas City. Yes, Sam,
they're not a great team. They don't have weapons on
the outside that can win one on one, so everything's
compacted in the middle. They're relying on a lot of
Patrick Mahomes magic in those little in between game, but
(23:07):
they don't have a guy on the outside that can
win when they need to win.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Carry what you love from the weekend, man, I love
from the weekend. So I ended up having a performance
on Friday. I thought I was going to do a
sound check and have, you know, just test the waters
and check out a new venue called the Phoenix. It's
in Beverly Hills, And so I ended up performing and
ended up having a real nice crowd and had a
really good time. So it was an amazing Friday for me.
(23:32):
Really late.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
I was tired.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Around ten, but I pushed through and now I made
it. It was a good moment, good good, good.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Theres do better at eight pm. Oh for those all
the time. Yes, the Phoenix. What kind of a place
is this? What's it?
Speaker 3 (23:45):
It's like a I guess it's like a bar. They're
trying to change it to a venue. They have outside
and inside, nice food, nice drinks, and you know, I
did it early, and so the first performance was kind
of like it was just a few people there and
the DJ was like, no, they come around ten. Was
like ten, I'm going home. But I stayed performed and man,
had a really had a great time.
Speaker 10 (24:06):
Now do you get up really early or do you
like sleep like twelve hours?
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Oh no, No, I get up super early. Okay, Like my
dad does it. He goes a bet at like eight o'clock.
Speaker 10 (24:12):
Weeks up at like five thirty with no alarm, alarm,
just naturally gets up.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
He's had enough sleep. Yeah. I've texted Carrie like eight
forty five at night and then at four forty two
in the morning on my phone, ding ding, Isaac long
Kraw what'd you love from the weekend?
Speaker 11 (24:28):
I loved that Justin Herbert was not sacked and was
not hit all weekend for once. Of course, it was
because the Chargers were on their bye week.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
He was he was was that a gong? Do we
have a gong at our studio with the brick?
Speaker 11 (24:47):
That's right?
Speaker 2 (24:47):
That was very gongish.
Speaker 11 (24:49):
Was justin Herbert getting hit.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
I did see him in another social media post with
his girlfriend and like, this is this is the new
Herbert two point zero.
Speaker 11 (25:00):
He was up in Oregon and he looked really mellow.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Iowa, Sam, would you love from the weekend.
Speaker 10 (25:06):
There was a lot to love this weekend, but I'm
going to focus on one little thing that I watched
on Sunday Night Football. Oh, Sunday Night Football. This is
from the NBC broadcast. They were cheer. They were giving
cheers to Chris Collinsworth for his five hundredth game broadcast.
He started in nineteen ninety September of nineteen ninety, so
(25:27):
he's been at at this for thirty five years.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Wow.
Speaker 10 (25:29):
Lots of nice tributes to Chris Collinsworth, Joe Buck, Troy Aikman,
several others, and then the legend Al Michaels gives his
little toast and this is how it went.
Speaker 9 (25:39):
Thirteen seasons, two hundred and sixty three games for Super Bowls,
A total blast. I want to congratulate you on five
hundred games, and he and my friend to five hundred more.
Speaker 10 (25:50):
Five hundred more would put would put Chris Collinsworth at
one hundred and one years old, sixty six he started
he was thirty one. Oh my god, I love the
like al Michaels is a legend. He's just doing his
job and he's trying to get you know, one day
to the next. But it's like saying, here's the fifty
years of marriage and fifty more that's not gonna happen.
(26:12):
So I was just like, you know, al Michaels, your
heart was in the right place, but there won't be
a thousand game broadcasts.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
It just won't happen. Like damn took that literally, Yes, But.
Speaker 10 (26:22):
I mean it's it's just one of those things you're
like and you really think about the end of that,
you know, at a five hundred more, Like I just
I don't know. I love al Michaels, but that wasn't
very sincere.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
The reason I look at myself last was because I
wanted to do a combo. Oh yes, but the hate
of mine had to go first before I got to
the love. So I hated what John morant Oh had
to say to Clay Thompson calling him a bum. Calling
(26:54):
Clay Thompson a bum after a meaningless November basketball game
that Ja Morant didn't play in. Yeah, but Clay Thompson
doesn't need me to stick up for him to take
down Ja Morant. He doesn't need you. What I loved
was sixty seconds of Klay Thompson absolutely undressing Jahn Morant's
(27:18):
entire professional basketball career after their game on Saturday.
Speaker 12 (27:23):
He's a funny guy. He has a lot to say
all the time, especially for a guy who rarely takes accountability.
But uh, you know what, that's for another day.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
What did you have to say that on this occasion.
Speaker 12 (27:34):
Nothing of intelligent depth, just running his mouth. He's running
his mouth for a long time. It's funny to run
your mouth when you're on the bench. It's kind of
the story of his career so far, just leaving us
ont more. You know, we all want to see him
out there and do his best, but he's just been
letting a lot of other stuff getting away of that,
(27:54):
and we need that in the NBA. We need our
best players in the out there, and when you're a star,
comes to the great responsibility. I hate to see that
go to waste.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
M I loved it, absolutely magnificent sixty seconds of audio
calling John Morant's words basically empty, effectatively saying that the
cur has been a waste so far if you're being
one of the NBA superstars, and to be able to
handle that situation, by the way, Clay sticking up for
(28:24):
Cooper flag yep, in situations where no other Mavericks players
are Like, if you didn't already love Klay Thompson, you
should now for what he just did. And that was
put John Morant in a verbal body bag.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
So it was the picture of John Morant on the
screen and underneath in the caps, and it said unintelligible.
Speaker 11 (28:42):
Hey guys, is it me or did it seem that
Clay Thompson had had that saved in his drafts folder
for a while, if I can put it that way.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Yes, because you know, Methods and Golden State had a
lot of you know, weird interactions in their playoff history
as well, And so I'm I'm on board with you,
Dan I John Morant is so overrated to me, and
he is and the concept of who he is as
a person as a basketball player is way above what
really is that it's really the deal.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
He had an opportunity to be this magnificent star in
the NBA. Yeah, the story was great Murray State having
his athleticism, which, by the way, is gonna go by
very very quickly if you continue to be injured like
he is all the time, He's gonna learn the reality
really fast. And I think when you're gonna look back
(29:31):
on it, Yeah, what a waste of what could have been.
And then they have that attitude to take one of
your greates and call him a bum to his face
while you're sitting there in a Nike tracksuit, like get
out of here with that jazz.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
And about to be traded or whatever, Like it's just
not a it's not a happy place to be jahm
and Wrahtt needs to he just needs to shut up.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
That's what he needs to do. That was my love
from the weekend.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
I love the fact that he went after him for
lacking depth. It's like, if you're going to be a
heel as be imaginative and like we all work with
these people at work that have nothing under the surface.
And you could tell the level of contempt that Clay
Thompson has for someone who isn't interesting. If you're going
(30:17):
to be a thorn in my you know whatever, in
my side, at least be imaginative or interesting.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
You're neither. You're just nothing. Clay Thompson came back from
two extremely serious injuries, costing himself two years of his career,
right and he's playing more than John Morantes right now.
It's it's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
And that guy he's talking about that's a bum is
a top seventy five player all time, and yeah, yeah,
it doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Kudos to Klay Thompson. All right, what you hate from
the weekend, Let's go to our resident welled critic, Jason Stewart.
Speaker 6 (30:57):
Well, I hated that. I so for a context all
of our listeners can relate to this. I get into
a fantasy league every year that's a little out of
my budget. I take a chance it's a little too
much that I shouldn't be spending this much. And I
went ahead and I chose Jamar Chase with the first
overall pick instead of Robinson. Okay, Jamar Chase, I'm on
(31:21):
the playoff bubble in this league that I can't afford.
Jamar Chase made a decision that got him suspended for
yesterday's game. As I'm on my playoff bubble and I
got my ass kicked in my fantasy league, and I
was complaining to Dan all week last week that we
had yet to see any kind of acknowledgment, accountability, or
an apology from Jamar Chase. He just wrote one. He
(31:43):
just wrote one today, guys. He apologizes to his teammates,
to the Steelers and the fan base. I don't see
anywhere in here where it says Jason Stewart or taking
me first overall, or any of my fantasy owners who
wasted their top pick on me. Not one acknowledgment. So
(32:07):
I hate that, Jamar Chase. It took you seven days
to read an apology that your agent obviously wrote for you.
Jalen Carter, who is not a mensa, but somebody got
into his ear the game after he did the spitting
incident and was apologizing to everybody involved before anyone could
(32:27):
get out of the locker room. It took Jamar Chase,
a veteran who gets paid fifty million dollars a year,
to read an agent prepared apology seven days after the fact,
after telling everybody that he never spit on the guy.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
I think you're part of NFL community. I think that
you are. I don't think he's talking about just employees.
I know you're not a fan, I know you're not
on his team, and I know you're not a member
of the Bengals or Steelers organization. But NFL community I
think is you. I think it's population US. So I
way too vague. Yeah, I think that that fits. But
(33:06):
by the way, Jamar Chase is gonna have to carry
quite a load because t Higgins got a concussion yesterday
against the Patriots, and to think that he's going to
come back and play Thursday against the Ravens probably along
it's too late. I'm out of my playoff. I don't care.
Isaac g Loring craw what you hate from the Weekend?
Speaker 11 (33:21):
I hate it because of its implications for the future
of humanity. But at the same time, I kind of
love it because I think it's hilarious. Have you guys
heard of a website called the Onion?
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Are you serious?
Speaker 11 (33:38):
I was kind of being I was kind of being onion, asked.
Speaker 10 (33:41):
By Onion Fashion right there.
Speaker 11 (33:43):
So anyway, the Detroit Lions have a rookie offensive lineman
named Tate Rattledge and The Onion posted an item over
the weekend, Detroit Lions rookie asks for Thanksgiving.
Speaker 6 (33:56):
Off it uh.
Speaker 11 (34:01):
Purportedly quoted him saying, I know we have a game schedule,
but my family has this big tradition where we all
get together on Thanksgiving and have a feast and watch football.
Plus my mom said she's making pumpkin pie just for me.
It's my favorite.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Unquote.
Speaker 11 (34:19):
A lot of people thought that was actually real on
social media, and rat Lich told reporters that he was
bombarded by messages from people that he knew thinking that
was real, and an additional Lions team employee told him
that someone actually called a local Detroit Lion a local
Detroit radio station to complain that he had asked for Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Amazing, just so great. But I saw I read the
post first or heard about it, and then I knew
exactly exactly how it looked, how The Onion did it
in their presentation magnificent.
Speaker 10 (34:57):
Thirty five years later or so, and people don't still
don't know The Onion is just satire. Oh it's the best, Sam,
what'd you hate from the weekend? Well, this is more
of a I guess a lament than a hate. This
is love and lament. But my cousin Henry played quarterback
for the Van Meter Bulldogs and their quest for a
state championship came to a screeching hault last Friday. Unfortunately
(35:19):
it was uh oh, Henry, oh, thank you very much.
Henry played against a team called Kemper Catholic and they
were undefeated and they lost in that title game twenty
eight to seven Friday morning. But they were just out man.
Henry had to play quarterback, cornerback, punt and kick and
he played tough. He took a couple of sacks. He
was tough though. And All American linebacker Pat Anger, who
(35:42):
was doing the color commentary for this game. He's also
IOWA Football's color commentary guy. He had some nice words
for Henry here towards the in the waiting seconds of
the game.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Ailesbury has been extremely tough all game. He has been
tremendous with his arm, with his legs. He's done a
really great job fighting for this Van Meter team and
them in this ball game. So there you go.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
So Henry has a He's definitely on the top of
the list as far as the punt passing, kick competition.
Speaker 10 (36:07):
So he man, he covered it all. Great soccer player too.
But Van Meter is very proud athletics tradition and they've
won it a couple of times over the years, but
just didn't have enough have enough horses against you.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Is this the first year hearing of this, this outcome?
Is this the first that you've heard of it?
Speaker 6 (36:23):
Yeah, he didn't take it to the group text on
Saturdays that.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Well, I I was, I was flipping through and I
saw CNN and they said Van Meter expired, and so
I knew that they ran out of time in the end. Expired. Yeah,
that was the breaking news headline.
Speaker 10 (36:41):
It's very very clever there. Uh, thank you, thanks well,
thank you CNN, CNN, Thank you CNN, and thank you Dan.
But very proud of Henry and his bulldogs. They just
a good job, Hank, Good job, Hank, Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
And carry you get the last word. What'd you hate
from the weekend. I'm hating Lane Kippen.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Hmmm, Yeah, I'm hating that he's on the team right
now that has that's probably going to be in the
college playoff, has a chance to win the national championship,
and he's negotiating with a team in the same in
the same conference, in the SEC that hasn't want anything.
And you know, obviously money comes into play, and that's
that's what makes our world go around these days. But
(37:22):
how about sticking with the kids that you brought up
and actually went through the fire with and win a
championship there. I mean, they've treated him well, he's he's
been well received in Mississippi and so the fact that
he's right now solidifying closing the deal with the in
conference team is just asinine to me.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
The business of college football. Oh, Dan, I hate it
so much erin Torres that I were in last week
talking about this and the statement came out like at
the end of the show, and when I read the
statement that the decision was going to be made the
next day after the Egg Bowl, I immediate I said, oh,
Lane can stay on and you can take the job
after the season, and that is just not possible anymore.
(38:06):
A completely shot down my argument, just like that. I
they should be Mississippi State, right, but it could get
ugly on Saturday. He's carry roads. I'm Dan Byer. This
show sponsored by DraftKings sportsbook and official sports betting partner
of the NFL. And NBA right now, use the promo
code Gottlieb to claim your special offer at DraftKings. Again,
(38:26):
that's promo code Gottlib at DraftKings. The crown is yours.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I'm Dan Byer, He's
carry Rhoads Smita's Halfway Shador. How about this? Don't throw
your head coach under the bus. In a postgame interview
after win number one, Hey, Sesame Street helped raise all
of us. Now it's our turn. Donate this holiday season
at Sesame dot org because the world needs Sesame and
(38:59):
Sesame Me needs you. We're gonna need some great info
from former Raiders and Chargers GM. Tom Telesco is set
to join us here in a bit on Fox Sports Radio.
JJ McCarthy is in concussion protocol. A report say that
McCarthy showed symptoms of a concussion on the flight home,
and I just tweeted that flights forty minutes from Green
(39:21):
Bay to Minnesota, you're just shooting over Wisconsin. That's what
it is that maybe forty five max. But so in
that short of time he showed symptoms and maybe a
much bigger issue for Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Yeah, the symptoms where he sucked. Yeah, it's those are
the symptoms.
Speaker 7 (39:38):
J J.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
McCarthy has a long way to go, and for them
to fully invest in him to be their guy without
seeing him play any games is just crazy. And to
not have I mean, they went out and got Carson Wentz,
who's been fine, but to let the guy that they
had in the building walk to go to Seattle your
(39:58):
team after what he did last year is just I
just I don't get it at all. And then even
I know Aaron Rodgers wanted to go there at some
point this it would have been the perfect It would
have been the perfect thing to allow now when you
look back at it, like to let Aaron Rodgers play
with that team, that team and I'm not saying that
Aaron Rodgers would have been the end all, be all help,
(40:19):
but in the way that Kevin O'Connell runs that offense
with Aaron Rodgers and JAJ got a chance to you know,
sit there and actually really learn under him, it would
have been ideal. Because right now he's not the guy.
He's not the answer, and the Vikings have way too
much talent to be as bad as they are right now.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Joining us now is Tom tilasco former Raiders and Chargers
general manager, and Tom walk in to the show Dougs
out coaching the Green Bay Phoenix as we speak against
Iona in the Paradise Jam. So Kerry and I are
with you today. Let's kind of get into this this
Vikings decision making, not necessarily to put JJ McCarthy in protocol,
but how we got to this point, Like carry makes
(40:58):
the point, you look at Aaron Rodgers, You had Daniel
Jones of the building, you had Sam Donald in the building.
How do the Vikings end up on a JJ McCarthy
that statistically now is putting up some of the worst
quarterback numbers we've seen in recent history.
Speaker 13 (41:13):
Yeah, really unique situation last year. Obviously, Daniel Jones would
have been hard to hold on to because he wanted
to go somewhere where he knew he had a chance
to compete and win the starting job. With JJ McCarthy
being a first round draft pick that was not guaranteed
there and then Sam Donald, I'm sure they would have
loved to kept but there's there's a money portion to
that as far as how much do we want to
(41:34):
invest in Sam Donald. Now, looking back, they were a
fourteen win team last year, so they obviously decided we're
going to go with the player that we drafted. And
the hard part with with JJ is you number one,
he was not a high volume passer in college, so
there was definitely going to have to be some development
that's going to come along with his game. He's in
a great spot at Kevin O'Connell, but he's been hurt
a lot and it's hard to get better when you're injured.
(41:57):
So he missed all of last year. He wasn't practicing
last year, wasn't like last year was a Red Street year.
Last year was injured and rehab. I mean, that's some
injury this year. So there's just there's a lot of
work that needs to be done. He's just not ready
for prime time yet. He's still maybe, but it's just
not there right now.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
Yeah, Tom, what would be your answer to that? To
that will be the solution to the to the problem
here in Minnesota. I mean, they have a lot of talent,
they have, but they're a team that came like you
just said, had fourteen wins last year, a lot of expectations.
Defense has been you know, okay, but they haven't been
as great as they were last year as well. So
is it just because the complementary part of the football
game being an issue for them and it being off kilter,
(42:36):
or is it or is the heavy portion of the
blame on J. J McCarthy as far as not being
I guess ready to be that guy yet.
Speaker 13 (42:44):
Right Well, quarterbacks, they get the praise and they get
the blame, and it's just the way that it is.
I mean, their defense is solid. The one aspect that's
been an issue this year, which has nothing new with
JJ is their offensive line has been hurt most of
the year. And they finally got all five back for
this game, and then two more guys go out, so
that's been a problem. But yeah, he just you know,
you come off fourteen wins and you got most of
(43:05):
the same players back, You're expecting this quarterback to jump
in there and and developed quickly, and it just hasn't
quite been there yet. And like I said, a lot
of it's just been you know, when you're injured, it's
hard to practice. We're not proxing you're not getting better.
So you know, they had they had Sam Howell, who
they traded for in the building also and then up
trading into Philadelphia when they're brought in Carson Wentz. I
(43:27):
guess they probably want a little bit more a veteran field.
I'm not sure Sam Well. Sam Howell played decent in
the preseason, so but yeah, they're in a situation now
that I'm sure they were not thinking it could ever
be at this point. And you know, Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Tom Telasco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. It's
the Doug Gottlieb Show. He's Carrie Rhodes, the former All Pro.
I'm Dan Byer sitting in for Doug today. Another quarterback situation.
We started the show talking about it. Shad Or Sanders
now the starter for Cleveland as Dylan Gabriel has progressed
through concussion protocol. How did you guys handle fifth round pace?
(44:00):
Because Shoudor seems to be a different animal, but in
the end, it was a fifth round selection. And do
you do you like the way that Cleveland is handled
Shador throughout this process? How about Shador getting his first
win yesterday and how it's gone so far the season.
Speaker 13 (44:17):
I think they've handled it the only way you can
handle it. I mean, he was the third quarterback going
into the season, and then they trade Flaco, and obviously
they liked Gabriel better, at least in the draft process.
They like Gabriel better than Shoudur. That's why he was
drafted before him. So he's the starter and Chaduur is
the backup. And you know, Carrie knows this more than anybody.
I mean, the backup quarterback doesn't get a lot of
(44:37):
reps with the ones during the week. He just don't
have enough snaps. And especially if when you're a starter
as a rookie, he needs all the stats he can get.
So Shadu's running scout team. He's he's throwing, you know,
looking at cards and throwing the routes off the cards.
Then maybe after practice going to get together and throw
with some receivers. But that's just life as a second
and third string quarterback. So but now he's the starter.
I think it's great. It just gives Cleveland some hope
(44:59):
right now. I think I don't think she played great
the other day, but he certainly flashed his talent and
his toughness, his ability to get the ball downfield. He
made some rookie mistakes. The biggest thing is he didn't
take a whole lot. He only took one sack, which
is great to see just protect the football. I know
he had the winter reception, but no fumbles, only one sack.
(45:19):
And when I think and they have a very conservative
game plan for him, and maybe a lot of start
to open up. But I thought the Browns rookie class
this year is about standing. I mean, you've got obviously
a rookie starting a quarterback, but you got the two
running backs that are doing outstanding with Judkins and Samson,
and Harold Fanning is a great threat as a tight
end as a middle round draft pick, and Carson Swartzinger
(45:39):
is to me has played at a Pro Bowl level linebacker.
And Mason Graham's had a nice year. So it's a
great rookie class. It's a really young team, and now
you get a chance to see Shader hopefully for the
next couple of weeks and see what he can do.
Speaker 3 (45:49):
Tom It's crazy because I said coming into this year
that the Browns would be a scary team because their
defense is so good, and so I thought, you know,
my you know, hindsight twenty twenty. Right, you think it's
a lot is going to be able to operate that
thing at a at a above average clip, right, And
I thought the team would be you know, in in
the mix and that division, to be honest. And so
right now, where do they stand with Kevin Stefanski And
(46:12):
you know, I guess you would say under and underachievement
team right now.
Speaker 13 (46:17):
Well, like the defense has played really really well, and
you know you could see that going into the year.
But offensively, to me, it doesn't matter who's playing quarterback,
they just don't have enough infrastructure yet and they're he's
really young a position. Their offensive line is not a
great group. It's not very strong, especially a tackle, so
that's not an issue all year, which I give Shoulder
even more credit for taking one sack yesterday. And their
(46:40):
skill group Jerry Judy is really talented, but you could
see yesterday what happens with him sometimes, so he just
isn't always a reliable outlet for the quarterback. So to me,
there just isn't enough talent on offense yet, no matter
who the quarterback is, and that's going to take time.
Like this this draft class without standing, there need another
draft class another free agent class to kind of get
(47:00):
the offense where it needs to go.
Speaker 2 (47:02):
Tom Telasco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, former
Chargers and Raiders general manager. I want to talk about
one of your former teams, the Raiders. They've now fired
two thirds of their coordinators within the last month and
after that lost to the Browns, Chip Kelly ousted last night.
How does how does that happen for an NFL team,
especially in a first year situation where you've ousted your
(47:23):
special teams coordinator and your offensive coordinator and we're just
two thirds of the way through the year.
Speaker 13 (47:28):
Yeah, I mean, it certainly not ideal. You know, the
Raiders are really results oriented team, probably bit more than
process oriented, and the wins just haven't been there. And
I really when they hired Peek Trail, I thought it
was a good hire. I still think it's a good
hire at the time for the situation and what he
can bring some stability to the to the club. And
I like the Chip Kelly higher at the time. I
think Chip is now standing offensive coach. So but it
(47:54):
just it just hasn't clicked. It hasn't worked, unfortunately. So
you know, they still have some games left here to
see what they can get together. That the defense has
played relatively well throughout this year and offensively, they they're
opening game against the Patriots against a good defense. I
thought their offense played really, really well. I thought that
was going to be take some stepping stones from that game.
It just has gone the other way for whatever reason.
(48:16):
They showed, you know, week one that they could move
to football against a good team, but it just hasn't clicked.
And yeah, we're going to kind of see, you know,
from the rest of the year out I know, how
they play, how the results are, and then we'll find
out at the end of the year what path they
end up taking. But that's a unique situation there. That's
why I thought Pete would be a really good hire.
Veteran coach can handle the situation because it is really
(48:38):
it's a bit of a rebuild. It just it is
what it is. They still need a lot of talent
on that offense and defense. But we'll kind of see
where it heads.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
Tom.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
We got a tight rates coming down the stretch here
with both divisions NFC and AFC, and there's going to
be a team that a lot of a lot of
us picked in both divisions that are not going to
make the playoffs, would you go on the limb right
now and say, out of both conferences, which team you
think is on the verge of not possibly making the
playoffs that we, you know, as people that covered the league,
(49:07):
thought would be in the playoff race or in the
playoff playoff position.
Speaker 13 (49:10):
Yeah, you know, it was funny. One of my kids yesterday,
I said, you look at the AFC standings, it looks
like it's like two thousand and six with the Patriots.
So you know, even you know, watching Kansas City yesterday,
I mean they got to six and five, it wasn't
(49:30):
the previous of games. I mean, they ran like ninety plays,
which is amazing. They just couldn't get any explosive plays.
And maybe that's a little bit of Colts defense too,
but it's just it's hard for me to imagine with
Patrick Mahomes and then having one of the most creative
offensive coordinators with with Andy Reid, and then the speed
they have a receiver, and still having a savvy Kelsey
that they just couldn't get the ball downfield and make
(49:52):
any big plays. But they made it enough to keep
driving the ball to put up enough points and they
played really good defense in the second half, but you know,
they're still in the outside looking in with some pretty
good teams in front of them, So it would just
be it would just be poetic justice that the one
year I'm out of the AFC West, I'm not with
the Charge and or the Raiders. We're going to take
(50:14):
a step back take the playoffs. But they're still in it.
But man, it's gonna be a tough road right given
at six and five right now to kind of get
back in there unless some other teams falter above them.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Yeah, he's on the records and the teams. Maybe it
is a who's who of who's on the bubble, that
is for sure. Even in the NFC, lets on the
outside back looking in right now in the playoff picture. Tom,
