Speaker 2 (00:18):
See all those people running out there but taking their
victory laps for something that they should not be running for.
Kerry Rhoads Week twelve in the NFL, providing us drama
in Dallas, a miserable afternoon for one quarterback in title town.
But we start in Sin City where Shador Sanders and
(00:39):
the Browns get a victory, his first career win as
an NFL quarterback.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
And now all people can talk about is Shador Sanders.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Wait did he play yesterday?
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Sure? Did?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
I saw a whole ordeal from Las Vegas, and we
saw Carry was so involved in this game, not for Shaedre.
And this is the bigger point. Carrie wanted to know
if the Browns would have more sacks than the Raiders
actually had points?
Speaker 4 (01:11):
I did right?
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Was that was the competition? Ten?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Ten was the was the final. But that tells the
whole story. But the story continues to be about Shador
Sanders and the talking heads that supported Shador Sanders and
felt he should have been a first round pick and
should have been starting a long, long time ago. They
are the ones who are running around the track right
now with their flags, with their banners. We told you so,
(01:39):
We told you so, and Carrie, the race is not
over yet. In fact, the race is just begun. And
the reason that I have the problem with the victory
laps that people are taking. You could take a win,
There's nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with hey, I'll
take that win today. I'll grab that. It's the fact
(02:00):
that they think that this is over and the fact
that Shador Sanders, even as now the starting quarterback of
the Cleveland Browns, as Kevin Stefanski made the announcement today,
everything that is led up to this point has really
been Shador doing it to himself. And you may say
that the Cleveland Browns are the ones who were blocking
shaud Or Sanders in getting an opportunity to be a
(02:22):
starting quarterback. Shandor turned down an opportunity to be drafted
by the Baltimore Ravens. You know why, because they felt
you had a better opportunity to start somewhere else. And
I'm sorry, I don't know if the Raiders are an
NFL caliber team outside of Max Crosby right now. So
taking a victory lap over a team that has fired
sixty seven percent of their coordinators within the last month,
(02:45):
I'm sorry. I am just not cashing all of my
chips in right now. If I am backing Shador Sanders.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Dan, you're right, but don't leave out bruck Bowers. He's
the NFL guy as well.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
That's true or not.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
We got they got, they got. They got two exciting
whites is what they called. That's what they call the Lakers,
the Lakers trio of La Rabia, Reeves and uh Luca.
But anyway, no, when it comes back to this, you
know how it is, man, it's I mean, everybody's been
waiting for this moment. I think even you know you
said the victory lap guys have been waiting on this moment.
I also think the naysayers have been waiting on this
moment as well, right, so if he was not to
(03:19):
win that game yesterday or have a terrible performance, they
would be right in front of this thing as well.
So you know, I think It's one of those things
where we do it a lot, and I do it.
I do it a lot as well. Like I told you, so,
I did that thing, I made that pick. I think
this is their chance to do it, Dan, So I'm
not gonna slight them that way. I'm gonna let them
have their moment. But like you said, this is just
(03:40):
a start, and they played a terrible team, So let's
not let's not have the conclusion that he's an NFL
starret and guy right now, we're gonna find out in
the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
What I want just a little bit. Kenny Loggins, the
Great Kenny Loggins, had a song called mean Me Halfway.
You know that song that, Yes, it's a great song. Yeah,
Kenny's great. Yes, meet me halfway. You don't even have
to meet me halfway. Just take a step towards my
(04:09):
direction a little bit. Just be a little different. And
that's what I just wanted Shador Sanders to do, is
just just be a rookie, be someone who's learning, have
a little bit of that, show us some of that. Yeah,
and you thought maybe because he had the last laugh
yesterday and getting his first career win, that that would
(04:32):
be the case judge for yourself.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Chador with CBS after the win.
Speaker 6 (04:39):
Win is crazy. It's amazing, you know, off of one
week of practice, You know what I mean? This one
week of practice, so imagine you know what a full
off season looked like. It get dangerous, but it's just
a one week of practice. So I'm just truly thankful.
You know that everything happened.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
So Shador now has not only should imagine what I
could do if the coach has actually cared about men.
He said, imagine what I'm gonna do when I'm the
Browns starting quarterback in twenty twenty six. Yeah, that's what
it is. There's there's no meet me halfway. There is
no step towards it. And that's why I say with
(05:16):
all of this is you can take your victory laps.
And we watched the game yesterday and there were great
throws by shot Or we saw great throws against Baltimore
that actually ended up incomplete in that game when he
ended up taking over for Dylan Gabriel. It's just meet
us halfway and take a step towards our direction. And
if you're taking a victory lap today, I think you
(05:38):
need to take a step in that direction. We have
to meet in the middle at some point. Yesterday was
a great moment for the Cleveland Browns in winning an
NFL game, led by their defense that had ten secs.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Yes, yes I could.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
No, I'm not gonna go that far, but I'm gonna
say this, the one person that shouldn't be taking the
victory lap is the guy I just took a victory.
In that sound bite for him, a lot of the
stuff and a lot of the stuff that you know people
don't like about him was displayed right after the game.
So as good as he was in moments yesterday, as
(06:13):
in control as he looked for the most part of
the game, and you know, as a rookie, that is impressive.
But he doesn't have to let everybody know that right now.
It's one game and when that flips and when he
has that bad game, will he still have that same energy.
You got to be even killed as a quarterback. You
can show your emotions on the field, you can fire
your guys up. There are different ways to lead a team.
(06:34):
Don't come out and take don't come out and take
a victory lap. You're showing up the coaches, You're showing
up the GM all these people that already came out
early and said, you know, you know, this is a
fifth round guy. He's gonna learn, he's not gonna take anything.
They've already put you in the category. And now that
you got a chance, the thing you just said, like
showing them up and showing up the other quarterbacks in
(06:54):
that room, that's just not the way to do it.
So I don't like that sound bite at all. I
like that he's had and the static after the win,
but don't do that because it's going to come back
to buy to you. This is the world now where
everything is actually captured back in the day where we
could say something to have a conversation off no off
social media, and nobody else would hear it, but us two,
everybody hears it.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
I also think that there's a point where you've played this,
where you've played the game where people were talking about
the Jets or the Cardinals during your time there, and
the public has no idea what's actually going on in
all the scenes, no zero idea. Yes, so their perception
of what is going on is not the reality that
you are dealing with day to day. And I feel
that there's a reality that Kevin Stefanski is dealing with
(07:37):
We're going to get to his locker room speech, which
I'm very curious to hear what you had to say.
But first, this was Kevin Stefanski following Shador's performance after
yesterday's win in Las Vegas.
Speaker 7 (07:47):
You saw a lot of what Chador does well on
the field today. I thought to make that play off
schedule when we were outmanned in protection, get the ball
down the field. So there's a lot that he's doing well,
and there's a lot that he's working on, which is
what I I appreciate about young guys. I want to
get better, so.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
I praise and talking about the plays that s Dort
made on the field in that game. Yeah, so nothing
wrong with that, no, but it took him a day.
This is something that our executive producer, Jason Stewart had
wondered about of why a delay? Why did you not
hear what we heard today?
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Jason? Is that fair enough to say?
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Is now Dylan Gabriel's cleared concussion protocol and Kevin Stefanski
is name shoud or Sanders. Are you wondering why there
was a delay in that announcement?
Speaker 8 (08:36):
Yeah, I think Stefanski has handled this whole thing wrong,
like from way back even at the draft. Okay, and
I think he's been he has ownership in his ears,
and he's got a lot of people in his ear. Yeah,
but like, why not name him the starter after yesterday's game,
Like take advantage of that momentum coming off the win
and just being like, he's going to be our guy.
Because today you have twenty four hours sitting on it
(08:59):
and this wave of criticism, and I think he deserves
that criticism. If he would have stated that Dylan Gabriel
is getting his job back today, that would have made
sense to delay it. But if you were just going
to make up the decision anyways, why not say it
yesterday and you wouldn't have gotten the last like twenty
four hours of crap.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
I'll tell you why. I'll tell you why. Jason.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Number one, you don't want to make anybody bigger than
anybody in that situation when it comes to the team, right,
so the locker room and all that stuff. I can
understand it. And also he still has to evaluate how
he played. Now you saw it in real time, and
as a head coach, you wouldn't know that, but you
want to see the tape and see if he's going
through the progressions the right way, if he's doing everything
the right way. Obviously operations in the game it looks
(09:42):
that way, but there are little minutia things that happens
as a quarterback, as any position in the league. You
just want to make sure that he's operating in that space.
So I can understand why it wasn't yesterday. I'm not,
as I guess, taken aback by that, but the way
he helded it early on, I am so I agree
with you that on that position.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
I'll say this, you also have to tell Dylan Gabriel
that you're not the starter anymore. Yes, So, like there's
a conversation that he can't just come in, well, I
want a great wing, guys, like we found a quarterback.
You know, like you can't you can't do that as
a head coach. But there is friction, and I think
Kevin Stefanski in the way that he praised shador in
talking postgame is a step towards Shadoor. And you guys
(10:21):
may be right that the Stefanski hasn't hasn't handled this correctly,
but I do think that he is trying to make
that step forward. Honestly, I don't think he's trying to
save his job. There were other reasons to move on
from Kevin Stefanski if the Browns ever wanted to. This
is not the reason to do so. But the reason
why I feel that there is some still some resentment
(10:41):
and at least Kevin Stefanski took a step his way
was from what Kevin Stefanski said in the locker room
after last night's win against the Raiders. This was the
speech Kevin Stefanski gave his team after winning twenty four
to ten.
Speaker 9 (10:57):
Hey, how about that road what stayed resilient together? Like
I told you we needed to write stay resilient together,
and we fought together. How about Gage's big punt returnal specialty?
How about Corey every single time you're out there pinning
(11:20):
those guys doing your job. Great offense, wasn't perfect?
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Wasn't perfect?
Speaker 10 (11:27):
How about that big play by Sam at the end
I'd be huge playing Q, huge play, Harold making a
big play and then another rookie making his first start.
Speaker 9 (11:38):
Nice job Sor there's that old saying save the best
for last. How about that defense?
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Okay, so we got we got a big road win,
a punt return.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
We talked about the punter, we talked about Dylan Samson,
and then nice job Shador Stefanski's I get it like
he's over it. But the point is is they sacked
Geno Smith ten times yesterday in the goal to goal situations.
They took Shudor Sanders out and put quinnshod Judkins in
as a wildcat. The first touchdown pass was a pass
(12:16):
out in the flat up fourteen to three that Dylan
Samson did most of the work on. Yes, correct, Yes,
So this is why you shouldn't take a victory lap.
And I think Kevin Stefanski realizes that is there some mojo?
Is there some energy? Yes, there was mojo and energy
after their first preseason game carry against the Carolina Panthers.
Remember that when Shadoor all of a sudden got the
(12:37):
start and we're saying, oh my goodness, what are you
doing and what are you doing Cleveland Browns? And he
went out and he played pretty well in his first
preseason start. Yeah, a win against the Raiders is not
the end all be all, So if you want to
cash in your chips, that's fine, cash him in now.
But the point is is there is still so much
to go. If Shador Sanders is going to be the
(12:57):
guy that he seems to think, he is, a.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
Whole lot left, a whole lot left. Man, This thing
is just the beginning. And even when you think you've arrived,
you haven't arrived. And so you'll learn that and he'll
learn that as we go on, because, like I said,
and you've said as well, it's about to get tougher, right,
He's gonna play some teams that are fighting for playoffs
and have bigger things to play for. I mean, the
(13:21):
Vegas Raiders aren't in that bunch. So we'll see what
happens moving forward. But yeah, I just want you to
do it. And I've said it when we've talked about
him at nauseum early on, even before he played a game.
Is just you know, be mature, Be the mature man
in the room. Be aware that everything you say is recorded,
and understand that. Not to tuck away and not be yourself,
(13:43):
but you know, just understand that with the good, there
is good, but there's always some stuff that you can
get better at. And I think that's the process he
needs to learn right now.
Speaker 2 (13:52):

Speaker 8 (14:06):
Isn't that comment? And I want to hear it again too,
because is this not on that list of things that
you you would say to your guys over like a
celebratory drink afterwards in private, but you just can't say
that out loud. The practice thing and.
Speaker 6 (14:24):
When it's crazy, it's amazing, you know, off for one
week of practice, you know what I mean? This one
week of practice, so imagine you know what a full
off season looked like. It get dangerous, but it's just
a one week of practice. So I'm just truly thankful.
You know that everything happened.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
An What an opportune time to throw your coach under
the bus, right, let's do it on National TV. Let's
Kevin Stefanski beat beat beep. Now I know why he
was fifth in the order of congratulating guys in the locker.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Dan.
Speaker 5 (14:56):
The thing about the NFL, everybody talks, and so Kevin
Stefanski may not be his coach for long, right, that's
just the NFL. But Kevin Stefans is going to get
a job somewhere else, and he's going to tell all
the other guys around him all the things and all
the experiences he's had in the place that he's been at.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Right.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
And so that's the thing about the NFL. It's such
a gossip league. You talk about locker room talkie, sure,
but it's a gossip league too. So if something happens
in one place, you'll be surprised to know that the
other team in Green Bay knows exactly what what's being
said or what's going on behind closed doors, because everybody
(15:34):
has somebody that they get on different places in college.
Knew that guy, I played with this guy. Do not
throw your head coach under the bus. You never know
if you need that guy again. So that's the thing.
Just take the high road. But it is it okay
to do it in your first NFL win? Like that's no, No,
I'm kidding.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
It is not.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Really hasn't done much, but your defense has ten sacks
and Dylan Sampson provided the offense. Yes, at the opportunity. Jeez,
did we hear a beeping bus of any vehicle in reverse?
This shud Or was speaking with CBS in saying that.
Speaker 11 (16:07):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I'm Dan Byer. He's
carry rhoads smetas halfway Shador, how about this? Don't throw
your head coach under the bus. In a postgame interview
after win number one, Hey, Sesame Street helped raise all
of us. Now it's our turn donate this holiday season
at sesame dot org because the world needs Sesame and
(16:38):
Sesame needs you. We're gonna need some great info from
former Raiders and Chargers GM. Tom Telesco is set to
join us here in a bit on Fox Sports Radio.
JJ McCarthy is in concussion protocol. A report say that
McCarthy showed symptoms of a concussion on the flight home,
And I just tweeted that flights forty minutes from Green
(17:00):
Bay to Minnesota, you're just shooting over Wisconsin. That's what
it is. That maybe forty five Max. But so in
that short of time, he showed symptoms and maybe a
much bigger issue for Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
Yeah, the symptoms where he sucked. Yeah, it's those are
the symptoms. J. J. McCarthy has a long way to go,
and for them to fully invest in him to be
their guy without seeing him play any games is just crazy.
And to not have I mean, they went out and
got Carson Wentz, who's been fine, but to let the
(17:33):
guy that they had in the building walk to go
to Seattle your team after what he did last year
is just I just I don't get it at all.
And then even I know Aaron Rodgers wanted to go
there at some point, it would have been the perfect
It would have been the perfect thing to allow now
when you look back at it, like to let Aaron
(17:53):
Rodgers play with that team, that team and I'm not
saying that Aaron Rodgers would have been the end all
be all help, but in the way that Kevin O'Connell
runs that offense with Aaron Rodgers and daj got a
chance to you know, sit there and actually really learn
under him, it would have been ideal. Because right now
he's not the guy, He's not the answering the Vikings
have way too much talent to be as bad as
(18:14):
they are right now.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Joining us now is Tom telasco former Raiders and Chargers
general manager, and Tom, Welcome to the show. Dougs out
coaching the Green Bay Phoenix as we speak against Iona
in the Paradise Jam. So Kerry and I are with
you today. Let's kind of get into this this Vikings
decision making, not necessarily to put JJ McCarthy in protocol,
but how we got to this point? Like carry makes
(18:37):
the point you looked at Aaron Rodgers, you had Daniel
Jones to the building, you had Sam Donald in the building, Like,
how do the Vikings end up on a JJ McCarthy
that statistically now is putting up some of the worst
quarterback numbers we've seen in recent history.
Speaker 12 (18:52):
Yeah, really unique situation last year. Obviously, Daniel Jones would
have been hard to hold on to because he wanted
to go somewhere where he he knew he had a
chance to compete and win the starting job. With JJ
McCarthy being your first round draft pick that was not
guaranteed there and then Sam Donald, I'm sure they would
have loved to kept but there's there's a money portion
to that as far as how much do we want
to invest in Sam Donald. Now looking back, they were
(19:14):
a fourteen win team last year, so they obviously decided
we're going to go with the player that we drafted.
And the hard part with with JJ is, you know,
number one, he was not a high volume passer in college,
so there was definitely going to have to be some
development that's going to come along with his game. He's
in a great spot with Kevin O'Connell, but he's been
hurt a lot and it's hard to get better when
you're injured. So he missed all of last year. He
(19:37):
wasn't practicing last year. It was like like last year
was a Red Street year. Last year was injured in
rehab and he's had some injuries this year. So there's
this There's a lot of work that needs to be done.
He's just not ready for prime time yet. He's still maybe,
but it's just not there right now.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
Yeah, Tom, what would be your answer to that? To
that will be the solution to the to the problem
here in Minnesota. I mean, they have a lot of talent,
they have a they're a team that came Like I
just said, had fourteen wins last year, a lot of expectations.
Defense has been you know, okay, but they haven't been
as great as they were last year as well. So
is it just because the complementary part of the football
game being an issue for them and it being off kilter,
(20:14):
or is it or is the heavy portion of the
blame on J. J McCarthy as far as not being
I guess ready to be that guy yet?
Speaker 12 (20:22):
Right Well, quarterbacks, they get the praise and they get
the blame, and it's just the way that it is.
I mean, their defense is solid. The one aspect that's
been an issue this year, which has nothing new with
JJ is their offensive line's been hurt most of the
year and they finally got all five back for this
game and then two more guys go out, so that's
been a problem. But yeah, you just you know, you
come off fourteen wins and you got most of the
(20:44):
same players back. You're expecting this quarterback to jump in
there and developed quickly, and it just hasn't quite been
there yet. And like I said, a lot of it's
just been you know, when you're injured, it's hard to practice.
We're not proxicing, you're not getting better, So you know
they had they had saund Howell who they traded for
in the building also and then trading into Philadelphia when
they're brought in Carson Wentz. I guess they probably want
(21:06):
a little bit more a veteran field. I'm not sure
Sam Hole played decent in the preseason, so but yeah,
they're in a situation now that I'm sure they were
not thinking it could ever be at this point in Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Tom Telasco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. It's
the Doug Gottlieb Show. He's Carry Rhodes, the former All Pro.
I'm Dan Byer sitting in for Doug today. Another quarterback situation.
We started the show talking about it. Shador Sanders now
the starter for Cleveland as Dylan Gabriel has progressed through
concussion protocol. How did you guys handle fifth round picks?
(21:39):
Because Shador seems to be a different animal, but in
the end, it was a fifth round selection. And do
you do you like the way that Cleveland is handled
Shador throughout this process? How about Shador getting his first
win yesterday and how it's gone so far this season.
Speaker 12 (21:55):
I think they've handled it the only way you can
handle it. I mean, he was the third quarterback going
into the seat, and then they they trade Flacco, and
obviously they liked Gabriel better, at least in the draft process,
they liked Gabriel better than Should. That's why he was
drafted before him. So he used the starter and Chadure
is the backup. And you know, Carrie knows this more
than anybody. I mean, the backup quarterback doesn't get a
(22:15):
lot of reps with the ones during the week. He
just don't have enough snaps, and especially if when you're
a starter as a rookie, he needs all the stats
that he can get. So Chaudu is running scout team.
He's he's throwing, you know, looking at cards and throwing
the routes off the cards and then maybe after practice
going to get together and throw with some receivers. But
that's just life as a second and third string quarterback.
So but now he's the starter. I think it's great.
(22:36):
It just gives Cleveland some hope right now. I think
I don't think Should have played great the other day,
but he certainly flashed his talent and his toughness, his
ability to get the ball downfield. He made some rookie mistakes.
The biggest thing is he didn't take a whole lot.
He only took one sack, which is great to see
just protect the football. I know he had the winter reception,
but no fumble, was only one sack. And when I think,
(22:59):
and they are very conservative game plan for him, and
maybe a'll start to open up. But I thought the
Browns rookie class this year is not standing. I mean,
you've got obviously your rookie starting a quarterback, but you
got you have the two running backs that are doing
outstanding with Judkins and Sampson, and Harold Fanning is a
great threat as a tight end as a middle round
draft pick, and Carsons Swartzinger is to me has played
at a Pro Bowl level linebacker. And Mason Grahanat's had
(23:21):
a nice year. So it's a great rookie class. It's
a really young team. And now you get a chance
to see Schrduro hopefully for the next couple of weeks
and see what he can do.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
Tom It's crazy because I said coming into this year
that the Browns would be a scary team because their
defense is so good, and so I thought, you know,
my you know, hindsight twenty twenty, Right, you think Flacco
is going to be able to operate that thing at
a at an above average clip, right, And I thought
the team would be you know, in in the mix
and that division, to be honest. And so right now,
(23:48):
where do they stand with Kevin Stefanski And you know,
I guess you would say under and underachievement team right now?
Speaker 12 (23:55):
Well, like the defense has played really really well and
you know you could see going into the year. But offensively,
to me, it doesn't matter who's playing quarterback. They just
don't have enough infrastructure yet and they're you're really young
a position. Their offensive line is not a great group.
It's not very strong, especially a tackle, so that's not
an issue all year, which I give Shuder even more
credit for taking one sack yesterday. And their skill group
(24:19):
Jerry Judy is really talented, but you could see yesterday
what happens with him sometimes, so he just isn't always
a reliable outlet for the quarterback. So to me, there
just isn't enough talent on offense yet, no matter who
the quarterback is, and that's going to take time. Like this,
this draft class without standing, there needs another draft class,
another free Asian class to kind of get the offense
where it needs to go.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Tom Telasco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, former
Chargers and Raiders general manager. I want to talk about
one of your former teams, the Raiders. They've now fired
two thirds of their coordinators within the last month, and
after that loss to the Browns, Chip Kelly ousted last night.
How does how does that happen for an NFL team,
especially in a first year situation where you've ousted your
(25:01):
special teams coordinator and your offensive coordinator and we're just
two thirds of the way through the year.
Speaker 12 (25:07):
Yeah, I mean certainly not ideal. You know, the Raiders
are really results oriented team, probably bit more than process oriented,
and the wins just haven't been there. And I really
when they hired Pete Carroll, I thought it was a
good hire. I still think it's a good hire at
the time for the situation and what he can bring
some stability to the to the club. And I like
the Chip Kelly higher at the time. I think Chip
(25:27):
is now standing offensive coach. So but it just it
just hasn't clicked. It hasn't worked, unfortunately. So you know,
they still have some games left here to see what
they can get together. That the defense has played relatively
well throughout this year, and offensively, they they're opening game
against the Patriots against a good defense. I thought their
(25:48):
offense played really, really well. I thought that was going
to be take some stepping stones from that game. It
just has gone the other way. For whatever reason. They showed,
you know, week one that they could move to football
against a good team, but it just hasn't clicked. And yeah,
we're going to kind of see, you know, from the
rest of the year out I know, how they play,
how the results are, and then we'll find out at
the end of the year what path they end up taking.
But that's a unique situation there. That's why I thought
(26:10):
Pete would be a really good hire. Veteran coach can
handle the situation because it is really it's a bit
of a rebuild. It just it is what it is.
They still need a lot of talent on that offense
and defense. But we'll kind of see where it heads.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Tom.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
We got a tight rates coming down the stretcher with
both divisions NFC and AFC, and there's going to be
a team that a lot of a lot of us
picked in both divisions that are not going to make
the playoffs. Would you go on the limb right now
and say, out of both conferences, which team you think
is on the verge of not possibly making the playoffs
that we, you know, as people that covered the league,
(26:45):
thought would be in the playoff race or in the
playoff playoff position.
Speaker 12 (26:49):
Yeah, you know, it was funny. One of my kids yesterday,
I said, you look at the AFC standings, it looks
like it's like two thousand and six with the Patriots exactly.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
That's my year.
Speaker 12 (27:01):
So you know, even you know, watching Kansas City yesterday,
I mean they got to six and five. It wasn't
the previous of games. I mean, they ran like ninety plays,
which is amazing. They just couldn't get any explosive plays.
And maybe that's a little bit of Colts defense too,
but it's just it's hard for me to imagine with
Patrick Mahomes and then having one of the most creative
(27:22):
offensive coordinators with with Andy Reid, and then the speed
they have a receiver, and still having a savvy Kelsey
that they just couldn't get the ball downfield and make
any big plays. But they made it enough to keep
driving the ball to put up enough points and they
played really good defense in the second half. But you know,
they're still on the outside looking in with some pretty
good teams in front of them. So it would just
(27:43):
be it would just be poetic justice that the one
year I'm out of the AFC West, I'm not with
the Charge and or the Raiders anymore. The year now
decide we're going to take a step back make the playoffs.
But they're still in it. But man, it's gonna be
a tough rope right even at six and five right
now to kind of get back in there unless some
other teams falter above them.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
Yeah, he's on the records and the teams.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Maybe it is a who's who of who's on the bubble,
that is for sure, even in the NFC, on the
outside looking in right now in the playoff picture. Tom,
we appreciate the time, have a great Thanksgiving and can't
wait to talk to you after week thirteen.
Speaker 12 (28:17):
Thanks so much, Yes, guys, Thanksgiving to both of you. Guys.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Take care going Tom.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
If you know, you know, and if you know the
overtime rules mean the Giants also get the football so
they could come back and win the game.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Just so you know.

Speaker 11 (30:24):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
Hello Isaac, Hello, Dan and Carrie.
Speaker 13 (30:34):
In as far as our subject, as Pete Carroll once
said to Jim Harriball, what's your deal?
Speaker 11 (30:39):
Big deal, little deal, no deal?
Speaker 13 (30:42):
Speaking of Pete Carroll here and the Raiders firing Chip
Kelly after yesterday's defeat to the Browns that dropped them
to two and nine. Big deal, little deal or no deal.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
I think it's a little deal. And the reason being
is I'm not necessarily surprised that the Raiders are going
through this much turnover. I'm just surprised now that it's
hit the coaching staff, where Kelly was making six million
dollars per year. For some reason, the Raiders like, let's
make you the highest paid offensive coordinator in the NFL
(31:12):
with an offensive line that's completely banged up. It may
not be fair, but the Raiders are a mess anyway.
I don't know how long for the job Pete Carroll is.
I mean, realistically, it's not like you're just gonna be
there eight years. He's not gonna be eighty on the
sidelines like you have to win now. So I get
the sense of urgency trying to already plan for next
(31:34):
year by making changes this year. That's why I say
it's a little deal.
Speaker 5 (31:38):
Pete Carroll's like one of those those guys that you
look at and you play Little League baseball and you're like, man,
that guy looks that guy looks older. But in this case,
Pete Carroll's the reverse of that. So he made Coachhi
till he's eighty because he's going to look sixty. So
I think he's still in there. But for me, I
think this is a big deal. And I say it's
a big deal because of what you just said a
little bit there with this guy was one of the
(31:59):
highest paid oc in the league, and you don't need
to give him a full year to be with that
team in an offense and to get it better. I mean,
the team is not a good team, so the solely
put it on him.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
It's just it's a big deal.
Speaker 13 (32:12):
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers believe that Baker Mayfield suffered a
sprained ac joint in his left shoulder, which is his
non throwing shoulder, in their Sunday Night football to the Rams,
he will have an MRI today. Big deal, little deal
or no deal.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
I'm gonna say no deal.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
It's no deal for a little pain for a tough
guy like Baker, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Think he'll be fine. He won't be a Baker with
his left hand.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
That may be a problem, but he'll be able to
throw the ball and he does have to be a
little smarter with this running, which he will be.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
I'll say this, I think it's a big deal.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
I am gonna go completely opposite carry because of the
throw that we saw at the end of the first
half where he was wincing in pain, and I don't
know if it was because it was the same stadium.
But remember Carson Wentz just got completely crushed in a
game earlier this year at so Far And to see
what now Baker Mayfield had to do last night in
(33:06):
throwing a pass and immediately going down again. He threw
the pass with his right arm and immediately grabbed his
left shoulder. That's not a great sign. So even though
the news was good on the injury, yeah, I don't
think it's a great sign for the Buccaneers, who are
now teetering atop the NFC South as the Panthers are
hot on their heels.
Speaker 13 (33:24):
Yes, the Detroit Lions had to rally from a ten
point fourth quarter deficit to send the game to overtime
against the Giants yesterday. They eventually prevailed, but the Giants
came in with a two and nine record. Big deal,
little deal or no deal that it took so much
for the Giants to the Lions to beat the Giants
(33:45):
at home in overtime yesterday.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
I'm gonna say no deal. I just think this is
who the Lions are, and I think that's who the
Giants are. Lions packers on Thanksgiving should be entertaining, But
I don't know if there's a game on the schedule
the rest of the way that you can look at
the Lion and be like, that's a for sure win
because of how up and down they are. Just in
the highlight we add of our tyrect player of the
(34:07):
day of Jamior Gibbs going crazy. Yeah, that's awesome when
he does that. Well, what happens when they don't and
they can't stop anybody? So I'm saying no deal.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
Yeah, I'm gonna say little deal.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
And I'll say it's a little deal because, like you
just said, they've been up and down, but two weeks
in a row they haven't been really good to me.
So we can talk about the Giants being the giants
and being tough, which they are. They're playing with house
money right now. But for the Lions, it's a bigger
it's a bigger picture. Here is this becoming a trend
and this is not the trend you want to have.
Speaker 13 (34:36):
The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles blow a twenty
one to nothing lead and lost at Dallas yesterday. It
broke a four game winning streak. There's still eight and
three overall on the season. The events in Dallas yesterday
for the Super Bowl champion Eagles. Big deal, little deal
or no deal.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Woo.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
I'm gonna say little de I mean, obviously they're still
at the top of that division, but so much turmoil
in Philly and I don't know if they're going to
be able to course correct that. But we'll see here
in the next couple of weeks. So Jalen hurts, I
think it's a I think it's a big deal. Jalen
Hurts through for two hundred and eighty nine yards in
the contest. Aj Brown got eight for one hundred and
(35:19):
ten in a touchdown, DeVante Smith six for eighty nine,
but Saquan had ten carries for twenty two yards.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
A costly fumble. That's how you win. You win with
Saquon Barkley. And I almost feel that there's times when
you're like, if you're Nick Siriani, we don't have a
lot of sympathy for empathy for because I just take
his attitudes whack. However, in trying to all right, now,
we got to make aj Brown happy this game. Yeah,
now we've got to make this person happy. What do
(35:48):
you do with Saquon? And if they don't run the ball,
they're not going to win no, and so that's how
you lose the twenty one nothing lead. Kerry called it yesterday,
twenty one nothing in the second quarter, carries like this
game is not over.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
It's far from over.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Twenty four unanswered points later, and then it was over
in Favorite Dallas.
Speaker 13 (36:05):
Final item on this edition of Big Deal, a Little
Deal or No Deal comes from college football? Is it
a big deal, a little deal or no Deal that
USC got pummeled soundly by Oregon this weekend?
Speaker 2 (36:21):
I think it's I think that it's a big deal
because again, it's USC not rising to the occasion and
they are becoming an afterthought when you're talking about the
who's who of college football, and when you start talking
about them as the real deal, it sounds fake and phony.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
I agree big deal as well, don't. I just don't
think they're They're not the same big time program that
we used to and I think that's when you watch them,
you don't even expect them to win those games.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
That's game time.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Game.
Speaker 11 (36:53):
This is game time on the dog God leaves you Hear.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
That exchange that Lincoln Riley had with the reporter. Sporter
asked an awful question about a college game day sign
and the reporter asked, how does it feel that Oregon
fans want you to stay?
Speaker 3 (37:06):
At USC
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Asks that question, That's how times are right now in Troy,
