Speaker 5 (02:45):
It is.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
It's uh yeah, We've been doing this for a while now,
and but there's nothing. The only thing better than a
Thanksgiving is a friends giving.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
And excited to be here with you.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
I know that people are having friends givings today, and
if you are unable to take part in a friends
giving or a thanksgiving of any sort, join us for
the next four hours here on Fox Sports Radio. We
will be your friends, we will be your family having fun.
Various guests will be joining us throughout the program. We're
talking a lot of football. And as we were talking

(03:17):
and welcoming all of our guests on the old TV
in the corner, Christian Watson has just caught a touchdown
pass with the green Bay Packers from Jordan love Goes
for fifty one yards. Green Bay's extended their lead to
nine with an extra point coming. Detroit playing without Aman
Russ Saint Brown in this contest after he got injured

(03:38):
early on. Green Bay about to make it a ten
point lead if Brandon McManus can make this extra point,
and he does so with ten thirty one left to
go in the third quarter eron Torres, the Packers lead
the Lions twenty four to fourteen. I liked the Packers
in this game. Packers beat the Lions earlier this season.

(03:58):
I just wonder at one point for Detroit, when you've
had certain injuries build up, you have now Frank Rereig
now coming out of retirement to try to play center
for your team's not playing today. But at some point
Will just mentioned the aman Ras Saint Brown injury. I'm
not saying that injuries are the excuse. I just don't
know how much Detroit has. And Green Bay is a

(04:21):
team tough defense, likes to run the football, and if
Jordan Love can do that to Christian Watson, they're gonna
be a tough team to beat. I fell it was
a tough task for the Lions today.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
So you know, this is the only downside of a
friend's giving is you know that you never know what
the TV setup is when you're gonna show up at
the house. And so I'm officially out about a thirty
to forty second delay to where you are in the
other corner room. It's crazy because I actually thought you
were going to reference the fourth down stop that you
said as we were welcoming in everybody.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
I thought you were going to reference the.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Fact that there was a fourth down stop that set
up the Packers at midfield and Christian wak Christian Watkins,
Christian Watson was already in the end zone where you are. So, yeah,
you know, Lions banged up. I also this weird play
calling situation with them. I've been a little bit underwhelmed.
I know they have fourteen points on the board, but
Jamison Williams kind ripped off a big play one hundred

(05:17):
and fifty seven total yards.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
I listen, I know there's injuries.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
I know there's no you know, Ben Johnson is obviously
elite at what he does. This offense right now looks
a little stuck in the mud to me, and the
Packers have obviously kind of opened.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Up that lead. Yeah they haven't. They haven't found their
their rhythm. And you really can't say that they found
their rhythm last week because the giants on offense were
doing things to the defense. Yeah, so the defense if
they can't hold their end, I don't know on how
many shootouts the offense can win. And again, it's not
just attrition, like you're right about that. And this gets

(05:53):
into we're gonna have Adam kaplan in about twenty minutes.
Hopefully he comes because he has the pumpkin pie. But
when he joins us, the thing that he has is
a circle of trust. Teams in the circle of trust,
and there really hasn't been a point with the Lions
this year that I think you can put them in
that circle. Green Bay, I feel has been in, they've

(06:14):
been out. They've been in and they've been out, and
maybe now's the opportunity to put them back in. I
understand that Green Bay fans can get frustrated with Matt Lafleur.
We have that image of him on the sidelines, I
believe during the Carolina game where he's just looking at
the tablet on the sideline trying to figure out to play.
Maybe it was the primetime game, the point being it's

(06:36):
against the egos, that's who it was. I don't think
that Packer fans are happy with Matt Lafleur because how
much they run the ball and want to rely on
defense and don't open it up. However, I think if
you get in a game situation, a one game scenario,
a winner go home scenario, it's difficult to play that

(06:57):
sort of style. I think it's difficult like that would
you play in college basketball or the NBA and I
think in the NFL, when you go up against teams
that have a style that maybe not everybody else plays
and you can be more physical than them, and it's
not about playing an eighteen game schedule. I think Green
Bay is a very very difficult out because of the

(07:17):
style that they play in this from a team that
people thought could have been a Super Bowl contender, We're
gonna win the super Bowl after two weeks out of
the season, I think Green Bay is just a really,
really tough out, no matter if they're the first seed
of the seventh seed gun playoff time.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Yeah, I mean, listen, a lot of the hallmarks of
what you want out of a championship caliber team, and
I think, you know, to be honest with them, I
think we got we all.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
Got so excited after two weeks.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
You know, they have the dominant win ironically against the
Lions in Week one and then that quick turnaround to
Thursday night football with the Washington Commanders before we knew
what the Commanders were.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
Admittedly, Jaden Daniels did play in that game, but I.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Just bring it up because you know, they get off
to that really hot to and oh start too essentially
nationally televised games and then you know, there was a
Cowboys game, and there was the Browns loss and whatever.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
But I just bring it up because, yes.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Maybe they weren't or you know, maybe they aren't or
never were the best team in the NFL, like we
maybe thought they were after a game or two. But
it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't mean that
they're not a team that's really built, that has a
lot of the hallmarks to do some things in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
And I think what's interesting is, you know, we get.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
So caught up in the Bear story, which it's a
great story, to be abundantly clear, get so caught up
in the Bear story. We get so excited about what
they've done, and you know, you look at the Packers
as far as like I said, a loss to the Browns,
a loss to the Panthers before we realized how good
they were. Packers are half a game back in the

(08:45):
standings thanks to that tie, tied in the lost column,
and still play the Bears twice. And so it's like,
you know, again, like I said, I just feel like,
because we get so excited about the Bears story, we
don't realize how close the Packers are to you know,
min hosting a playoff game and maybe again having a
couple home home games in the playoffs at Lambeufield.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
And they did not meet the Philadelphia Eagles. However, as
you mentioned, they did beat the Lions at the beginning
of the season. And I would I would rather have
a team, say, lose to the Browns or lose to
the to the Panthers. And now we look at it
and maybe the Panthers loss isn't as bad as we
you know it.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
Originally the Browns defense is insane.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
I mean, like, yeah, the Browns loss isn't you know,
it's it's not one you know, you can tell your
grandkids about in a positive way, but like, it's not
it's not losing.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
To the Jets. Basically. It's the point that I'm trying.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
To Yeah, and am I when I'm looking at the
Bears and we look at the Bears and who that
they have beaten. I'm not a big strength of schedule
guy in the NFL because it doesn't matter your wins,
are you the only way that we're judging. I think
only a few times we've looked back and said, yeah,
they really haven't beaten anyone. There's like those those Dolphins
teams a couple of you know, years ago when they
went out on a win streak, Like, who are they
really beaten? The Bears are are beating who's on their schedule.

(10:01):
But I would rather have a couple of good wins
on my plate and mix with a couple of bad
losses than to never be able to beat good teams.
Because in the playoffs, you're only going to face good teams, right,
And so when I look at green Bay, I think
green Bay is capable of beating good teams or teams
that actually may be better than they are, and I'm
not sure the Chicago Bears are in that category.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Great call, you know, yeah, And I mean you factor
in again, trending towards a sweep of the Lions, took
care of business, you know, dominated the Vikings last week,
and then of course, listen, you know, you lose the Eagles,
but nip and tuck game that could go either way.
The only point I'm trying to make is that I
am with you as far as that's concerned, and as
far as the Bears are concerned. Kind of the opposite,

(10:45):
you know, like you were saying, you never want to
discredit a team for beating bad teams, because bottom line
is that something that the Bears haven't doug very much
in their at least recent history. But certainly when I
say recent history, I mean pretty much like the last
three decades. So you don't want to discredit the shootout
against the Bengals, the comeback against the Giants, whatever wins
or wins. But to your point, you start looking at them,

(11:06):
Okay Raiders, Okay Saints, Okay Ravens, in a game in
which Lamar Jackson did not play. All of a sudden,
you start picking apart that schedule. Again, you don't want
to discredit what they've done and who they've done it
against and the wins.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
That they've gotten.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
But I do think as they step up in weight
class over the back half of the year, I think
it is fair to have questions about them. Frankly, to
your point, maybe questions that you don't have about other teams.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, and similar there's similar opponents that they've they've both beaten.
But if green Bay can sweep Detroit, I think that
would say a lot. By the way, Detroit is back
in the end zone, so they've answered the touchdown pass
from Jordan Love to Christian Watson, Isaac Taslat with the
touchdown reception from Jared Goff again Amanaras Saint Brown went
down in the first quarter of this game has not returned,

(11:53):
so the Lions, we're lying Jared Goff actually had a
big run on this drive to allow them to get
the chain moving. David Montgomery's had more of a role
today as Jami or Gibbs has been kept in check.
So that's where we are in the first game of
this Thanksgiving Day. A triple header, A pretty good triple
header by the way, Chiefs Cowboys coming up. So curious

(12:14):
to see which Cowboys team ends up showing up. Is
the one that was down twenty one nothing to the
Eagles or the one that I had twenty four unanswered
that comes up a little bit later on today. And
then the return of Joe Burrow tonight for the Bengals
against the Ravens. So a nice triple header, Aaron that
we've got on this Front's Giving.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
Now I'm excited.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
I mean, obviously, you know, Joe Burrow coming back is
the headline, and it's funny because you know, just going
you know, thinking about my weekend show is obviously case
themselves is coming off the nice win over Indy, but
I won't bring it up because my radio partner on Saturdays,
Jason Martin, brought up the good point going into that game.
This was obviously prior to knowing the fact that they

(12:49):
got the win, but going into that game he kind
of referenced, like, you lose this game, the Cowboys are
actually all of a sudden, a quick team on a
short turnaround because of how quickly they can score with
that off. So to your point, you know, the Cowboys
are a little bit of a wild card to say
the least. You know, maybe not even literally, but definitely figuratively.
And so you know, the Cowboys at minimum this year

(13:11):
are a fun watch and I don't know that you
could have said that about them in other years. So
I'm excited for that one. Then obviously just having Joe
Burrow back. One curious to see what he looks like,
but two just happy to see him on a field period.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Kansas City dominated the Colts in that game. They had
two bad turnovers, at one in the red zone. They
had one backed up in their own basically in the
shadow of their own goalposts, that allowed the Colts to
end up scoring almost immediately after that turnover, but it
was it was thirty three first downs to ten. Completely
dominated the time of possession, and I think that's go

(13:43):
to I say to myself, that's Kansas City controlling and
controlling the game. And then I take a step back
or three steps back, and I'm like, they dominated this
game and they needed over time to beat the Colts
in shutting down Jonathan Taylor, and so to me, it's
actually conning. I know that they can win in different ways,

(14:03):
but I don't know what Kansas City does so well,
aside from having Patrick Mahomes be their quarterback. Media Kareem
Hunt had thirty carries for one hundred and four yards
in that win against the Colts. Now Isaiah Pacheco expected
to come back today in play, so there's a bit
more of a running game, but they haven't solved it
throughout the year. I don't think that the defense is

(14:25):
as good as they have been in previous seasons. So
I think the jury is still out with Kansas City,
and I'm they're not in my circle of trust right now,
just because of I look at that Colts game and
be like, man, that was the absolute script that you
needed to have to win that football game, and they
were only able to win it by three. I didn't think.

(14:45):
I didn't take it as a great sign. Others may,
but to me, it wasn't like the Chiefs of old.

Speaker 5 (14:51):
No, I agree a couple of things on that.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
One I've been saying it's about the Chiefs sins Brazil
in Week one is that you know, even in that game,
it was like Mahomes made like four five incredible plays
that no one else on planet Earth could make. And
if he doesn't make them, that one's even uglier. And
I just you know, I think with the Chiefs it's
you keep waiting for that flip to switch. They're an
old team that has played a lot of postseason games

(15:14):
in the last frankly six or seven years. And listen,
I'm not the first or the hundredth person to make
this point, but you know, I think it reminds me
of kind of that middle period. You know, people forget this, Dan,
I know, you know you've been doing this for a while,
but like the Patriots won what was it three and
four years with Brady, you know, right to start, and

(15:35):
then there was a six seven eight year period where
they were really good but they weren't the Patriots, and
then they had the second act with Kronk and you
know eventually Randy Moss and Edelman and all those guys.
But I kind of feel like that's where we are
with the Chiefs right now. Of you got to get
younger in a lot of spots, you got to get
cheap in a lot of spots. And I think that
they will and obviously I think they still have Hall

(15:57):
of Fame quarterbacks, still very much in his prime.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
But yeah, I'm with you in that one. I don't
trust him.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
They feel like a team, a game to game team
to me, a week to week team. Really quickly on
the Cowboys day, let me ask you this, I have
found myself weirdly enjoying and weirdly rooting for the Cowboys
this year. One I think that I go back to
the summer just the way that Really it's a couple

(16:23):
of things. One, we all and I include myself, laughed
off the Brian Schottenheimer. Higher don't think he's terrible. I
think he's already proven me wrong to a degree. Two,
I just look at how Dak handled that situation with Mike.
It was a circus every day you've never heard anything
from Dak held the locker room together, you know, to
the degree that he needed to. And they're not a

(16:45):
perfect team. But Schottenheimer, to me, feels like a sympathetic figure.
I don't sympathetic is probably not the right word, but
a guy that's easy to root for. Dak has become
increasingly easier to root for. I don't know where you
stand on that, but I have found my scene. I
always enjoyed the Cowboys self pity, but I've kind of
enjoyed this Cowboys team.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
I will say this that I think that Jerry Jones
did like trading Michael Parsons, is the difficult decision whether
people liked that he did or didn't do. That's not
easy to do. And we always thought previously that Jerry
just pays guys. He paid. He overpaid Dak like he
did like even though he's Dak's having a great year

(17:25):
sixty million dollars because nobody's coming close to that on
an average annual salary. He did it with Ezekiel Elliott,
he did it with others, and here to this point,
no matter what happened, he ended up not making the
easy decision. Now whether he softened that by trading for
quinnin Williams. I actually think it's a I thought that
that was a wise move. You got to get better inside,

(17:46):
and I think that's been his point. But he didn't
make the easy decision and just pay He's I think
he's been very interesting in the head coaching highers that
he's made throughout his tenure. So I'm glad to see
Brian Schottenheimer continue the offensive success. And honestly, they took
the Steelers for a ride for how good George Pickens

(18:07):
is right now, great cochy, and so considering like what
you've got on that offense, it's been actually a pretty
good twenty twenty five for Jerry Jones, even if the
record has them on the outside looking into the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Yeah, I don't know you and I obviously filled in
for Doug last week, but I don't know if we
really You and I had the in depth talk about
the nineties Cowboys documentary, because I remember you even having
the topic in the summer of how much better the
NFL would be on top of how awesome it already
is if the Cowboys were good. But I bring it

(18:37):
up because I came out of that documentary.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
Soft spot sympathetic.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
I don't know what the right word is, but liking
Jerry Moore because at minimum you could just eat it
for all the bluster and all of this, the guy
clearly cares and the guy listen. Is he I'm just
gonna say it. Is he a narcissist? Probably does he should?
He probably be deferring certain things to certain people.

Speaker 5 (19:02):
Yes, is he really a GM?

Speaker 8 (19:04):
No?

Speaker 5 (19:05):
Whatever, But he clearly cares.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
He's clearly you know, not only on the back end,
but I hate to say, you know, the very back
end of you know, kind of his run running the organization.
So I don't know if you felt the same way
coming out of that documentary. I did find him to
be a little bit of a sympathetic figure, which maybe
has bled into this season and kind of how I'm
feeling about the Cowboy.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
My biggest takeaway was we like, hold that four year
window in lower sure like it's like Jred Like it
wasn't like a fifteen year run, you know, knowing had
in two decades, and you know, we look back at
the Cowboys time, we're like, man, I'll about them Cowboys.
I mean it was it was they won three and
four years, and there was a build up to that,
but it's also the build up to it in the
fall that makes it such a great story.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
Well, and really quick on that note, it was funny
because you know, I did watch that entire documentary I
think it was seven eight parts with my wife, and
you know, for people who haven't watched it, it's not
really a spoiler, but you know, the last episode is
essentially about how they've never been able to recap that,
which of course is, you know, something that every every
NFL fan knows.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
But you know, I watched the documentary with my wife.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
She's not a football fan, she doesn't know, and so
it was funny that you reference what you said, because like,
she had no idea that it's been thirty years since
they've really because you know, she's here's the Cowboys, she
sees them on TV all the time. And so to
your point about everyone holding that very small window in
time in lore, you know, I think if you're a

(20:28):
diehard NFL fan, a diehard football fan, you know, but
I think for a lot of people that maybe just
tuned in for the nostalgia, you forget how great it was,
but also how brief that window was with obviously those
those all time great players.

just came up with it because for gambling, if you're wagering,
you're trying to figure out who to back, and I
always say, hey, here's a team based on the way
if they're playing, based on the way they're coaching what
I've heard that they have a better chance of covering
than not. Now, look, the Patriots have sort of defied
logic that The Packers completely frustrate me because now they're

(23:31):
doing great today, they're scoring, but their defense isn't stopping
anyone today with Detroit with all their injuries, surprisingly.

Speaker 8 (23:36):
But are they my circle trust?

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Not really.

Speaker 9 (23:39):
No.

Speaker 8 (23:40):
From one.

Speaker 10 (23:42):
The problem is they have when healthy. Arguably Dan one
of the top three most talented teams, but for some
reason with Matt Lafleur, he coaches very conservatively, not today,
but more often not. And that's what's really gotten by
the way in the playoffs, Adam.

Speaker 5 (23:58):
Let me ask you. He's about the line.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
And I remember asking you over the summer the impact
that Ben Johnson would have. Would it be bigger in
a positive way for Chicago in a negative way for Detroit?

Speaker 5 (24:11):
Certainly been positive in Chicago. But I guess that's.

Speaker 8 (24:14):
A great question. I remember that. Go ahead.

Speaker 5 (24:15):
I remember you saying it was a great question.

Speaker 10 (24:18):
So thank you for bringing it up, because it's not
the way that I would have thought of it. And
then you made me think because of but I had
no idea that they would be this good of good.

Speaker 8 (24:27):
No.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
But but the counter to that is, you know, I
don't want to speak for you, but I think you
did have questions about the replacement of Dan Campbell.

Speaker 5 (24:37):
I remember you saying, hey, he was a coordinator a
million morton.

Speaker 10 (24:39):
Yeah, yeah, eight years ago I reported that he could
not connect with the players, and they kind of turned
on him. Sure, and unfortunately they didn't turn on here.
They just didn't buy in. Yeah, it is really look
it coaches growing involved. He's not a bad coach. It's
just you got to understand it's a player's game. And
Dan Campbell, which is interesting, the second time he's did it,

(25:00):
he's done this. He did it his first year in
twenty twenty one. He replaced Anthony Linnis a play caller.

Speaker 8 (25:05):
Now that was odd. I mean, the timing was ridiculous
that they were ready oh to eight.

Speaker 10 (25:09):
But when you ever winning a record and you do it,
it's not aaron, it's not quite the way you usually
do it, but you gotta have a feel for it.

Speaker 8 (25:18):
And so far, so good.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
Adam Caplin joining us here on our friends Giving special
on this Thanksgiving on Fox Sports Radio. He has aeron Torres.
I'm Dan Byer sitting in for Doug Gottlieb today on
this holiday tonight, it's the return of Joe Burrow. He
matter of fact says, if I'm healthy, I'm going to play.
Was there any question, considering the loss last week in

(25:39):
New England three games back, the tough task of maybe
not playing Joe Burrow for Cincinnati.

Speaker 10 (25:44):
No, it's here's the thing. They're technically still alive for
a wild card spot. That is why you would play
him in week thirteen. He really the word around the
club was he probably could have played last week. Remember,
he had a severe left turf toe injury. And he is,

(26:05):
as Jake Glazier put out, he he borrow told him
he was, so he is so many weeks ahead of schedule.
It's pretty impressive. Now to Higgins got lit up. He
had a really bad concussion. I don't know how long
he's gonna be out for. He's on playing this week.
That does hurt them now, I know that Dan. The
Bengals were, they were encouraged with the way that they

(26:25):
competed last week against the Patriots.

Speaker 8 (26:28):
Yeah, they blew that game.

Speaker 10 (26:29):
They were up ten nothing, I think, and they their
defense actually was pretty good. But their defense mostly has
been non competitive. And you know it's it's ironic. They
fired lou Anaroumo, right, he's now the Cults defense coordinator,
and look look how the Cults have done.

Speaker 8 (26:42):
Funny things work out, Adam.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
I want to go to the earlier game.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
You know, obviously, Casey Cowboys. I was just talking to
Dan about this. I was saying about big picture Cowboys.
I find them to be one a good watch for sure,
but then two kind of a sympathetic team with the
way that deck just you know, the chaos never got
to him this summer. And I want to ask you,
I know that I was one of many that not

(27:07):
only had you know, doubts about Brian Schottenheimer, but openly
kind of mocked the higher And they're five to five.

Speaker 8 (27:14):
And we're not the only one.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
Go ahead, And that's what I was gonna say.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
Listen, I'm not saying they're winning the division. I'm not
saying they're winning the Super Bowl. What has the vibe
been in that locker room in that building? Because it
seemed and by the way, five to five to one,
the offense is certainly not the problem. What has just
how he's been received as a head coach, and then
what the conversation is about him as a head coach
around the league.

Speaker 8 (27:37):
So, okay, here's what happened. Here's kind of the way
I understood it.

Speaker 10 (27:42):
And I'm gonna give you some background on Shotty so
Shoddy coach is hard, He's hard on his players. He
was brought in specifically to coach Russell Wilson hard in
twenty twenty. He did a phenomenal job. He was behind
let Russ cook. That was his idea to come out throwing.
He's done a phenomenal job. He's taking their offense to
another level. I get it, Georg Pickens helps, but you're right, Aaron.

(28:02):
It's not their offense. It's their defense, which is supposed
to be mostly been terrible. Quite frankly, Legal should have
put up forty last week easy. They had nine penalties
in the second half, two turnovers. So Matty Eberflus, who's
an old school he plays basically mostly his own it
is not worked after Mike. It didn't work with Zimmer.
Now what they do like is they've changed their defensive front.

(28:25):
They're now playing a five man front. They're playing three
d tackles and two edges and they I know the
Raiders are bad, but they shut down the Raiders after
a rough first half day a really good job in
the second half. So the vibe is good. The vibe
is good. Now they're still out of the playoff race
here they it's going to be very hard.

Speaker 8 (28:42):
I mean it's.

Speaker 10 (28:45):
Not impossible. They're two and a half games back. But
this is this is basically as I said for the
Philly game, I thought that was a muster to win.
They got to win this game and then you know,
that's It's just it's funny how things work out. If
they win this game, then they got to play the
desperate lines team in Detroit next Thursday.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Adam kavilin joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, I
got one last one for you since you mentioned the Raiders.
So now they fired Chip Kelly. They were frightful.

Speaker 8 (29:12):
Fired by the way. That was that that had to happen.
But that's another story.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Well, you know, and you mentioned Brian Schottenheimer and Pete
Carroll and Carroll even talking about it says that they
want to win with defense and special teams, some paraphrazing game.
But yeah, I just I don't know how much you
can do that in today's NFL. What is going on
with the Raiders? And I guess my ultimate question, could
it be one and done for Pete Carroll this year?

Speaker 8 (29:34):
I would be surprised.

Speaker 10 (29:35):
There are too many hands in the cookie jar when
they hired that too many peat pot of pinges on
hiring Chip Kelly, I might have staying on the contract.
It was a three year deal worth eighteen million, highest
paid offense coordinator I believe in NFL history. Just ridiculous contract,
Chip Kelly. The thing is Pete wants run him and
Schottenheimer didn't. They didn't get along. You know, I've told

(29:58):
you this many times Dan over the years. It was
it was just a bad match shot. He did a
great job, but Pete does not want the quarterback to be effectory.
Wants the running game of defense. And by the way,
he also fired Tom McMahon. Pete Carroll did the offense
the e season, the special teams coach two weeks ago,
so they're a total mess. Ashton Genty, he's just what

(30:18):
you're seeing is now with with a better play call
and schemer, he'll be better next season. But nothing is
worked man gens A. He's a run after contact running
back that's old school that he doesn't really fit today's
NFL very well. But they're a nightmare and Gino Smith
has had a rough season. You can make the argument
everyone says the Jets are the worst, and it's not

(30:39):
that I'm going to disagree with anyone. The Jets are
terrible and Tennessee's got the worst record, But they have
a quarterback and I know a bunch of offensive coaches
would love to have that job because Kim Work could play.
He just needs talent around him and a little bit
of our coaching. But the Raiders are an absolute dumpster fire.
They're They're really bad, and the problem is they don't
have a lot of good players.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Well, we're always thankful for Adam Kaplan, who's never a
dumpster fire when he judds us, especially on Thanksgiving and Friendsgiving,
wytn't you sit by the fire, kick the feed up
and watch them foot fall for the rest of the day. Adam,

Speaker 11 (31:48):
Foxwine, No, I would bring I'm bringing real wine on
the box wine.

Speaker 5 (31:53):
Guys.

Speaker 6 (31:53):
Come on, come on now, I.

Speaker 5 (31:55):
Can't you finished all the box wine in the carpet.
Do stop.

Speaker 6 (31:57):
We're not gonna We're not gonna tell that to the listeners.

Speaker 12 (32:00):
I can't not hear Adam Kaplan calling Brian Schottenheimer shoddy
like I think Shorty like shoddy.

Speaker 10 (32:09):
You know.

Speaker 5 (32:09):
He said it took me a second first time, and
I was like, oh.

Speaker 6 (32:12):
Yeah, no, no, just gonna be like shorty.

Speaker 12 (32:14):
Yeah, good guy, Shorty, because you know I get called
that a lot.

Speaker 6 (32:18):
But guys, Thanksgiving, friends Giving, I thought you meant that's
what I'm.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
Saying, not like that, right.

Speaker 6 (32:24):
He was about to sing an R and B song.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
I'm about to break it down with your shot. Ah.

Speaker 6 (32:31):
But that's what I met.

Speaker 5 (32:32):
That's what I met.

Speaker 11 (32:33):
The first of three magups today in the NFL, still
going in Detroit. You have Jared Goff out there blocking
for Jamison Williams. Now the Lions are losing by ten
to the Packers. It's thirty one to twenty one, still
early in the fourth quarter, but Jordan Love has own
four touchdown passes, two of them came on fourth down.
He is sixteen of twenty six for two hundred and
ten yards, while Jared Goff is fourteen of seventeen for

(32:56):
one hundred and seventy four yards and two touchdowns. The
Lions currently have the ball and they are driving there
at Green Bay's twenty.

Speaker 6 (33:01):
Eight yard line.

Speaker 12 (33:03):
Other games that are coming up Chiefs and Cowboys that's
at four thirty Eastern time, and the Bengals and the
Ravens that's at a twenty Eastern time. And yes, Joe
Burrow is expected to start for Cincinnati.

Speaker 5 (33:11):
Colts.

Speaker 12 (33:12):
Quarterback Daniel Jones apparently suffered a fracture in his fibula.
The NFL network is reporting that he was a full
participant in practice and that he's going to attempt to
play through it for Week thirteen against the Texans. There
is a video on social media of him not looking
that good. I don't know exactly if it's just like
a bad video for a moment, but it looked like
he was not moving the way you would want your

(33:33):
quarterback to move. Okay, Giants sid quarterback Jackson dar has
cleared concussion protocol, putting him in line to play Monday
Night football against the Patriots. When it comes to college football,
multiple reports Missouri has agreed to a six year contract
with coach Eli Drinkwitz. It includes an average annual salary
of ten points seventy five million and expanded resources for
his staff through the twenty thirty one season. In the NBA,

(33:56):
Warriors anticipate that stuff. Curry is going to miss about
a week or so. He's suffered a quo contusion last
night against the Houston Rockets, and in golf, two time
Major champion Fuzzy Zeller has passed away at the age
of seventy four.

Speaker 6 (34:08):
Back to you guys, thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
Monty lines right now, facing a fourth and three down
ten with eleven minutes to go at the Green Bay
twenty one yard line. Jamison Williams drops the football. Aaron,
this puts them if they would have kicked the field
goal in this situation, it's a seven point game, there's
under eleven minutes to go. I understand the whole go

(34:30):
for it, go for it deal golf. Throw it behind
Jamison Williams and they don't convert, but now Green Bay
can run the ball, work the clock, and it's still
a two score game. Like that's just I understand like
having conviction and what you do, but there's also times
that you have to save yourself from yourself, and I
think the Lions have missed a huge opportunity to at

(34:51):
least make it a one score game. And if you
want to get you know, if you want to put
your chest out on the next possession, score a touchdown
and goal for two, take the lead that way. This
was not the not the place to do it for
Detroit in my opinion.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
So I'll be quick here, But I don't know if
you've ever heard the audio.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
Of JJ Reddick yelling at me on his podcast before
he became the Lakers head coach.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
I'm sure i've at least be passing told you the story.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
But the the the the line that he used, and
it was about two versus threes whatever about me. He said,
it's a math equation, f head, And he didn't use fhead.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
He extended it out, it's Thanksgiving, we keep it clean.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Yeah, well, Dan Campbell, it's a math equation. F head
kicked the field goal, and I agree with the hundred
percent is that. I understand aggression is your ethos, all
of that, but it really is a math equation. You know,
nothing's guaranteed, but you know it's right around what what
would you know, what would be a chip shot field goal?

Speaker 5 (35:50):
You kick it there.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
It is a one score game obviously, you know Dan
Campbell chose otherwise, And like I said, I'm all for
being aggressive, but it's a equation kick the field goal
to make it a one score game.

Speaker 3 (36:02):
He's erin as I'm Dan Byer on this friends Giving

Speaker 13 (36:58):
Here's the snaplove looks downfield lofts it left side going
for Wix over the shoulder catches made. Is it a touchdown?
A tumbling grab in the left side of the end zone,
A touchdown or not? Yes, it's a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
One of four touchdown passes for Jordan Love on the day,
two of them to Dontavian Wicks on WR and W
and the Packers Radio Network. They continue to lead Detroit
thirty one twenty one. Now with under nine minutes to
go in Motown. There's a game in Detroit, and there's
a game right now on this Franks Giving. Let's the
Friends Giving. Let's play it.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
This is game time game on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
Frank'sgiving is in June when all these Franks just get
together and they have hot dogs. That's what it is.

Speaker 8 (37:46):
Months.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
That's right, Monty.

Speaker 5 (37:47):
Baughter of Frank Reignow coming out of return.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Yeah, it is good, good call. That would have been
much better, Yes, much better off.

Speaker 6 (37:55):
They both worked. They both worked, all right, Yes, monsie.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
What do you got for the game today?

Speaker 6 (38:00):
Well, we are playing.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
I feel a draft.

Speaker 12 (38:06):
That's right, guys, We're gonna be drafting probably just one
time around, based on the time, our favorite sports day
on the calendar. You know how there's certain days throughout
the year that like pertains to a particular sport holiday.

Speaker 6 (38:17):
Yeah, yeah, it's a holiday. It doesn't have to put
You get what I'm saying. So we're gonna draft in disorder.
It'll go Ian, then Me, then Ryan, then Aaron, and
we'll end with you. Dan Ian kick us off.

Speaker 7 (38:29):
Okay, yeah, I mean I I'm going with to me.
This is the clear number one choice is Christmas because
that's the day that you get awesome NBA games and
awesome NFL games. Now because the NFL is starting to
slowly take over, not even slowly takeover for themselves, but yeah,
Christmas is always great games and those are two of
my favorite sports.

Speaker 6 (38:48):
So easy pick for me, that is an easy one, Ryan,
what you got?

Speaker 3 (38:52):
I was thinking, thinking, thinking, but I'm want to go
with the fourth of July. Nice, all right, Okay, Okay,
Merca little baseballs sitting in a little baseball. There's Dodgers.
There's also you know, could be soccer World Cup at times.

Speaker 6 (39:06):
At times, yes, so I kind of want to piggyback.
I'm next, I'm gonna piggyback a little bit on Ryan.
And it's not that it's a holiday, but it's a
day in sports to meet.

Speaker 12 (39:15):
Because you said fourth of July, I actually prefer Opening
Day for baseball, Like the grasses are the best that
they're gonna look, all the flags are out, everyone's excited.
It's the time of year where the sun is out,
and so it's like a holiday for me. Opening Day
of baseball. I love that day.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
My favorite thing about Opening Day is like when a
bad team in bad weather, like the Colorado Rocket or something,
they'll sell like completely sell out, and then the next
day they play a day game and there's like twelve
thousand people in a forty five thousand seat stadium.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
Well also Bajor League Baseball, they'll have Opening Day and
then they'll have a day off.

Speaker 6 (39:49):
The essays, right, Yes, that's annoying.

Speaker 8 (39:52):
Well.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
Part of the reason too, is if there's bad weather,
there's so much value in the Mantis point about opening
Day that you then try to play the next day,
so people who have tickets for that day, because otherwise,
if you had tickets for the next day, then you're
kind of like, well, we just overpaid for Opening Day, right,
So that allows you to at least get that premium.

Speaker 6 (40:11):
Sure, yes, exactly, all right, add on your next All.

Speaker 4 (40:15):
Right, so I'm gonna throw a little bit of a curveball.
I will go college basketball. No, I will say the
Friday of Championship week is my favorite day of the year.
It's when all the tournaments are going on, all the
bad teams have eliminated, all the good teams are playing
each other. I've said for years that week is actually

(40:36):
bet more favorite. I like it more than the opening
week of the NCAA tournament. I know, I gotta be quick,
that's my answer.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
That's all right. I'm gonna just wrap it up and
say this because it's not happening much anymore. But there
was nothing like New Year's Day and college football. There's
nothing with all the bowl games and now we're getting
less and least, but there are still some playoff games
that are taking place on New Year's Day. But there
was nothing like that feel of sitting back and watching
the Patch and Tree of College football.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
Game. This is game time on the Doug Gottlief Show.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
It's not game for the Lions, as Jamis and Williams
has just taking the football in the Green Bay territory.
So the Lions down ten. I'll have it first and
ten at the twenty five. He's Aaron, I'm Dan. It's
friends Giving on Fox. On this friends Giving on Thanksgiving.
We're all friends here. Welcome in. If you're in the
car cruising a round. Thanks so much for joining us.

(41:27):
You're a part of our family here today on this
friends Giving. We aren't the only ones Aaron and I
sitting here. Aaron, you are in the great city of
Las Vegas. Were you at the Players Era tournament over
this over this past week or what were your travel plans?

Speaker 5 (41:41):
I was got in about.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
I actually got in Monday, went straight to the arena,
and I know this will maybe be a topic later.
Very good basketball, not a very good event from pretty
much anything other than what happened on the court. Okay,
all right, Well that's good basketb trying. You know, it's
friends giving. I'm trying to be glass as half full,
but it's got some work to do a big picture.

Speaker 3 (42:07):
So well, Manzi just told you that the Lions and
Packers are in the fourth quarter with just over three
minutes to go. It's still a ten point green Bay lead.
DeVante Wyatt is injured for green Bay and it appears
to be a significant injury. So Detroit has yet to
have their fourth down play where they will likely have
to kick a field goal after Jared Goff was sacked

(42:30):
on a third down by Micah Parsons, who's been here,
there and everywhere today, so the Lions are likely to
attempt to make it a seven point game. They have
all three of their timeouts remaining, but three point fifteen
to go, and just a tough injury spot for the Packers,
but they have the ten point lead right now in
Detroit likely to attempt a field goal here to try

(42:51):
to make it a seven point game. I don't think
it's the biggest game in the state of Michigan this weekend.
Aaron Torres sure, and it comes up on Saturday as
Ohio State the number one ranked team in the country,
takes on fifteenth ranked Michigan Buckeyes come in as a
nine and a half point favorite, But the numbers of

(43:13):
rankings and point spreads none of it matters with these
two teams as Michigan looks for their fifth straight win
and Ohio State looks to just end the misery that
has been the last four years of the matchup of
these two rivals in the game. But for as great
as Lions Packers is right now, there is no doubt

(43:33):
it is playing second fiddle for the biggest game in
Michigan this weekend.

Speaker 5 (43:37):
Yeah, I'll tell you this.

Speaker 4 (43:38):
You know, obviously being around Vegas one, you know Michigan
literally their basketball team was here all week, so you
see a lot of Michigan fans in and around town.

Speaker 5 (43:46):
But I saw some Ohio State gear.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
Actually went to the Golden Knights game last night, saw
some Ohio State gear.

Speaker 5 (43:51):
But I bring it up because, you know.

Speaker 4 (43:53):
You just kind of chat with people in the hotel
lobby whatever.

Speaker 5 (43:57):
It's interesting.

Speaker 4 (43:58):
Ohio State fans definitive think that this is the year
they get their revenge.

Speaker 5 (44:02):
And I don't think it's a false bravado.

Speaker 4 (44:04):
I think they truly believe that, and Michigan fans are
kind of like, yeah, we own them.

Speaker 5 (44:08):
Well, we're going for five for five.

Speaker 4 (44:10):
So it is interesting to me that it does feel
like both fan bases are weirdly confident coming into this one,
even though I know that Ohio State is a double
digit favorite.

Speaker 3 (44:19):
And I may be the exception to the rule of
no sigarette. I've been an Ohio State fan since I
was about seven years old. So this game, Aaron, it
honestly is sometimes difficult to even talk about because of
the strain that it puts on just myself and my

(44:41):
whole being. This is for as great as the playoff
run was last year for Ohio State, I truly believe that,
and Nick Saban may disagree and others may disagree, But
now that you've won the national championship, this Saturday is
all that matters. And the overconfidence me is shocking because

(45:03):
last year, if that tells you anything about this rivalry,
last year was the year that Ohio State should have
won that football game. That was the no brainer in
all the years of the no brainers of this rivalry.
And I've seen everyone, basically Aaron from about the mid

(45:24):
nineteen eighties until now. There are a few upstarts. When
Jim Tressel went in to ann Arbor in two thousand
and one and ended up winning that game and in
his first game, and from what he said when he
got the job, it was still a bit of a surprise.
It was a surprising outcome. And last year was even
more so with how dominant what Ohio State was and
Michigan and their injuries and really how the game played out.

(45:47):
And that's why I find it so surprising that Ohio
fans would be overconfidence in this scenario. I don't know
if they believe that Ryan Day has changed. I'm not
sure if now that the playoff run is happened, that
it's a different Ryan Day and that's going to change everything,
because I just think it's much bigger than that. I
think it's the rivalry. I think it's the moment. I

(46:07):
think it's each play. I think it's the prep every
single day that you have with your team throughout the
entire year that you're planning for this game. So it's
crazy to me to think that Ohio State would feel
any sort of overconfidence heading into Saturday.

Speaker 4 (46:21):
Yeah, yeah, you know, And obviously one very small sample size.

Speaker 5 (46:25):
I'm just speaking about. You know, I don't know in.

Speaker 4 (46:27):
Your circles if that reflects outside of your personal opinion
how everybody else feels.

Speaker 5 (46:33):
But you know what I would say is a couple
of things.

Speaker 4 (46:35):
Is one I agree obviously, like if Michigan can win
the game last year, they could absolutely do it at home.
I think what's kind of interesting is and j Martin
I talked about it Jason Martin and I who I
know filled in for two pros this morning, we talked
about it on our show, is that Michigan has to
be the quietest nine and two team in the history
of college football.

Speaker 5 (46:54):
Like just end listen.

Speaker 4 (46:56):
It's not pretty. You know offenses. You know what Michigan's
offense is. The defense isn't as good as it's been
a couple scheduling breaks with obviously no Oregon, no Michigan
this year.

Speaker 5 (47:09):
But the counter to that is they are nine.

Speaker 4 (47:11):
And two coming into this game, and you know, you
go back to last year and they were what six
and five coming into the game. So and it's at home,
So there's a lot of variables in Michigan's favor I
want to ask you just a big picture question Dan
is Ryan Day. So listen, it's he's basically and earned
that national championship last year. You know, incredible run deserves

(47:34):
every piece of positive praise that he's got. And I
say that as someone who was critical, you know, especially
coming out of last year's game, when everything was lined up,
twenty million dollar roster, you couldn't get the job done. Whatever,
But I just want to ask you, does feel kind
of like a total free roll for him? Since the
day that confetti fell against Notre Dame last January? What

(47:56):
do you think the reaction would be on Ryan Day?
Let me let me set it up for people who
might not know. Is that, you know, one, a fifth
straight loss to Michigan. Two, we don't know all of
the tie breakers. Probably a pretty good chance you are
not going to the Big Ten championship game. Potentially a
year where you have been number one in every college

(48:17):
football playoff pole, you might not even get that first
round by depending on how things go. So listen, I'm
not talking about hot seat. I'm not talking about this.
I'm not talking about that. He's he's the rightful coach.
He's been awesome this year. He's been awesome throughout his
career with the Michigan bugaboo exception. I'm just curious, like,
what would the message boards be like on Saturday if there,

(48:38):
in fact is a fifth straight loss again with a
team that is very comfortably favored, this time going into
ann Arbor.

Speaker 3 (48:45):
Yeah, so I think that there's a lot there. And
I'll quick tell you Detroit made the field goal, so
it's thirty one twenty four. Green Bay, though, just converted
the third and five, so Detroit has got one time out,
two forty three left to go. Packers up seven. I
think that if Wihire were to lose this game the
placing that you see in the bracket, the same fans
that are over confident heading into this game and thinking

(49:06):
that this is all Ohio State will also think like, well,
we'll just do what we did last year. We'll just
run the table. We'll just win the four games, and
then Ohio State will win a national championship. And that
is that is not the case. I actually think the
thing that was Ohio State was criticized for last year
was trying to run the football and be physical with Michigan,

(49:27):
no doubt. But the crazy thing is Aaron with that
was that was actually a complaint the previous three years
prior now, Ohio State actually had a chance to beat
Michigan in Ann Arbor two years ago. They had a
drive near the end of the game ended up stalling
in Michigan territory. They were down five, but Ohio State

(49:49):
was really moving the football at that point, whether they
get it into the end zone or not. But Cale
McCord ended up getting hit and ball ended up getting
picked off and that was the end of the game.
But Ohio State I don't think matched Michigan's physicality those
previous three games in those losses. So I understand that
if you're Ryan Day and you're Chip Kelly at that point,

(50:09):
you're like, hey, not only do we have the horses,
like we can beat them at their own game, and
they missed a couple of field goals. Honestly, Will Howard
got dinged up in that game. I don't know if
he was right after he got dinged up in the
second quarter, he seemed to be flustered. They couldn't do
anything with the passing game, and Michigan has a lot
to do with that in how Ohio State can or

(50:30):
can't move the ball through the air, weather is also
a factor. I hear fans down playing weather. It's gonna
be cold, it's gonna be thirty degrees, there may be
snow flurries, there may be winter elements, and I think
that you would rather run the ball in those situations
than pass the ball. So I think that's caught up
with them. But I do think that there is an
overconfidence in terms of thinking that Ohio State just has

(50:52):
the better players. So if they don't win this game,
I think that there is a fraction of the fans
that'll just say we just care about the playoffs. Someone
who's had this rivalry ruined their days and weeks and
years for forty years because the outcome didn't fall in there.
The two thousands, by the way, were pretty awesome, Like
it was ruined then like during that time. Same thing

(51:14):
with about the twenty teams. But prior to that, like
it's stunk. It consumes you. Monty and I have done
shows together. I've told her it all matters is November
twenty ninth, twenty twenty five, Like, this is the game,
and I'm surprised that others aren't aren't thinking like that.
It's also a unique rivalry and the reason I want
to play this clip A couple of reasons because Dan

(51:35):
Patrick show here on Fox Sports Radio, Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe Here on Fox Sports Radio. Brady
Quinn one of the Pros and Two Pros. He was
on with Dan Patrick earlier this week and they had
a conversation. Aaron and Dan kind of set it up
in trying to ask Brady about the Michigan Ohio state
rivalry comparing to a rivalry that is near and dear
to Brady Quinn's heart. Here was their exchange earlier this

(51:58):
week on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 10 (52:00):
How would you compare Notre Dame USC to Michigan and
Ohio state rivalry.

Speaker 3 (52:06):
Well, I grew up.

Speaker 14 (52:06):
In Columbus, Ohio, So I've got a pretty good idea
of the differences between the two only because of the
nature of both schools, how close they are in proximity,
the types of players that they traditionally recruit in both states,
you know, the top players, and so it's just an
entirely different feel between the two because they're both two
Midwest schools, and so it's not a battle of culture

(52:28):
where you get that a little bit with you know,
Catholicism and Notre Dame in the Midwest versus like this
so cal laid back, like let's go out and surf,
and I don't want to believe in anything or I
believe in everything. So it's a very stark contrast between
the two fan bases for SC Notre Dame versus what
you get in Michigan and Ohio State. I mean, these are,
you know, two programs and two schools who know that

(52:51):
you know each other so well. There's so much history
behind it, just in regards to even the coaching staffs
and all of that. So I would say with Notre
DAMESC there's tradition, there's history, there's both schools kind of
honoring at least used too. I don't know if that
tradition will continue, but honoring kind of the differences between

(53:12):
the two.

Speaker 2 (53:13):
With Ohio State Michigan, I.

Speaker 14 (53:14):
Don't feel like either or honoring anything. I feel like
it's a he it's you against us, and that's all
that matters this one day every year, and depending on
the outcome, we're never going to forget it. For the
diner in sixty four days, regardless of how well our
team does in the playoff, for even winning a national championship.

Speaker 3 (53:34):
That is a perfect summation. I think of this rivalry
from Brady Quinn and he knows it and it's true,
and I feel he backs up what I said of
like what this game is. And it's also there's the
geographic angle of it of you have two schools bordering
states close to each other. There's that there. I don't

(53:56):
want to say basically the same, but that's kind of
the point that radius putting up as you have this
two different entities kinds of with Notre Dame and USC,
and you almost have two identical entities in Michigan and
Ohio State. Now I don't know if either school would
want to admit that, but it is, you know, similar
to that, and there is there is no nostalgia, no

(54:17):
one everybody knows it, but no one wants to admit
that you can't be one without the other. Like there's
just even in the down years, like when Ohio State
was winning and you know, Rich Rodriguez was there, like
and this is in the late aughts. I went to
I've been to two Ohio State Michigan games one and
O six, which was one versus two a game of

(54:39):
the century, and then two years later, when there wasn't
that hype in Ohio State won forty two to seven,
and it was a completely different feel when you don't
have competitive teams. And that's what I feel is so
different about this And it's not to disregard Michigan's success
during the early part of this short winning streak eraan
but what is so unique with this rival and I'm

(55:00):
using in air quotes, and I think you'll understand what
I mean is the better team isn't winning. And what
I mean by that is Ohio State can sit there
and say, we've won the national championship, look at what
we've done recruiting, look at what we've done with our victories,
look at who we've beat. But you can't beat Michigan.
And it's not to say that Michigan has been less

(55:22):
than in the last couple of years, but that's not it.
But that is also what has turned this rivalry, I think,
over the last couple of years to be so so
annoying and so frustrating for Ohio State fans because they
feel they have the quote and I'm using the air quotes,
better team, but the better team is never winning this game.
And that is just so frustrating.

Speaker 5 (55:42):
Yeah, it was funny.

Speaker 4 (55:43):
You know, I referenced We're at the Golden Knights game
last night and there were some people from Michigan behind us,
and you know, kind of over hear them talking about
the game whatever we're talking about.

Speaker 5 (55:52):
How you know Michigan's.

Speaker 4 (55:53):
The only one that really has a trump card over
Ohio State right now? Right is that you know, you
know who knows that Ohio State has the better roster
at least last year than Michigan did. Michigan fans, Yes,
and you don't think that, you know, for the last
three hundred and sixty four days, Hey, congrats on that, Natty,
but guess what, you still didn't beat us.

Speaker 5 (56:11):
And oh, by the way, we know that we did
not have the superior roster.

Speaker 4 (56:14):
So I think that's a very interesting dynamic in all
that is that you know, one Michigan right now, for
as long as they have this winning streak, you know
they're gonna be kind of on this moral high ground,
not moral, but you know this high ground of hey,
we had to beat you guys to win that national championship.
We didn't just get to backdoor our way into a

(56:34):
twelve team playoff and then Oh, by the way, you
still can't beat us, and you got to break getting
into that twelve team playoff. And if there was no
twelve team playoff, you're not national champs. So it'll be
interesting at some point, and I think it, you know,
very easily, could be as early as Saturday. That rivalry
is gonna flip. And when it does, you know, Michigan
won't have the like to stand on. Yes, they'll have

(56:55):
the four straight wins, but Ohio State will have the
most recent national championship in that time, the most recent win.
But I just bring it up because for right now,
Michigan fans should be pouting out their chest heading into sect.

Speaker 3 (57:07):
It's also why the cheating scandal was such a hot topic,
because Ohio State is saying we have the better team
and the only reason that you win. That's not entirely true,
but is that you did this and Michigan did this
and went to these lengths because of what had happened
in the previous two decades. Right like, there's something in

(57:29):
place for Michigan to try to get over this hump.
That's the argument, and that's at the crux of it all.
So the whole counter stallion saga is all based on
this rivalry, and there may be other schools that they
scouted to try to win that national championship, but it
all is based on what happens with Ohio State and
Michigan and that outcome of that game at the end

(57:50):
of November. That's what it all comes down to. And
it's funny because now, Aaron, you'll hear a lot of
this countdown of days since Michigan or Ohio State beat Michigan.
I've seen it over the last couple of years. The
Columbus Dispatch, I believe, had a countdown like that basically
through the two thousands up until you know, twenty nineteen,

(58:13):
where you would have various days and it would be
a crazy amount of days that would say it's been
X amount of days since Michigan beat Ohio State. Now
that is turned and it's used against Ohio State fans
and they're living about hearing that, you know, hearing that number,
and Michigan fans are happily claiming it and pointing to
it and saying, yeah, it's been this long and it
could be another three hundred and sixty five. But both

(58:36):
teams use the same sort of ammunition to try to
get under the skin of their.

Speaker 4 (58:39):
Rival fascinating times and so real quick, just what is
Dan Byer's overall take on the game? Because Ohio State
does have the better team, but this game is in Michigan.

Speaker 5 (58:53):
I would argue the gap between the two teams is
smaller this year.

Speaker 4 (58:59):
So it's one thing to say that you don't have
the confidence or you know, arrogance of we're going to
go and win, But how do you you know, definitively,
but how do you actually feel about it?

Speaker 3 (59:09):
There all? Honestly, it's running game is is has not
been as great as they would have hoped throughout this year.
Bo Jackson's the guy that's kind of taken the lead
on that, and I think you're gonna have to lean
on that running game. They've tried a bunch of different plays.
I think the health of Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate
is obviously a big, big part of it. But the

(59:30):
biggest name I think in all of this is Andrew
marsh I think for Michigan, the freshman wide receiver. We
may talk about Bryce Underwood, we may talk about Julian
sand and those guys are going to have to make
plays in their first game, the you know of the game.
But Andrew Marsh being the threat on the outside in
Ohio State's corners, they highly touted, But there's davisonigmnosen can

(59:55):
commit a penalty or four. So if you have Andrew
Marsh in a situation where how frustrating would that be
for Ohio State to have these two primo first round prospects,
Jeremiah Smith, who I think is the best player in
college football, maybe being overshadowed by a Michigan wide receiver.
Like that's the sort of stuff that happens in this rivalry.

(01:00:15):
I actually think Michigan's probably gonna win on Saturday. Wow, yeah,
I do, but we'll see. It's I think that it's
funny because when I've watched Michigan, I've heard people say
Michigan just yeah, it just hasn't looked hasn't looked the same.
And I look at him and I say, wow, Okay,
that could be difficult. This could be difficult. If they
get after Julian San as well, which I think Michigan

(01:00:37):
can do, it could be tough for the Buck guys
on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
Last quick thought for me is that I do hate
the whole like SEC well, like if we would have
nine teams undefeated if they played Ohio State schedule. But
like I do think there is something too that with
these bloated conferences. The reality is, listen, you caught Texas
in week one, Arch to his credit, is better.

Speaker 5 (01:00:59):
I don't know how good tech.

Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
But after that, you know you didn't play Oregon, you
didn't play USC, you didn't play Indiana. And so I
think two things can be true. I think Ohio State
is the deserving number one team in the country. They've
done what they needed to do against the schedule that
was placed in front of them. But the counter to
that is I do still think they are relatively untested

(01:01:21):
this late in the season.

Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
He's erin Torres. I'm Dan Byer. This is a friend's
giving on Fox Sports Radio. I just want to jump
to the news to ask Manzi Milanios. Green Bay had
a fourth and three trying to run out the clock,
and I don't think we have Manzi of it. Maybe
we don't have Manzi right now, but green Bay holds
on thirty one twenty four. Packers ended up getting a fourth.

(01:01:45):
It was a fourth and three on the conversion.

Speaker 12 (01:01:47):
Manzi, yes, Sorry, sorry, I wasn't sure if you were
talking to me. Yes, it was a fourth and three
and he threw to Dontavian Wicks and he lost his
shoe but caught the ball and that's what ended the game.

Speaker 6 (01:01:58):
They were three of three from fourth down.

Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
Sounds like my wife again, Happy birthday to my wife.
I wouldn't say if you were talking to me. I
heard some voice chattering. But Packers get a big win
against the Lions. We may get a guest from that
game or two. Our own Chris prefet Is in Detroit
took his mom to the game today, so Chris may
chime in. Also may get a chance to talk to

(01:02:20):
a Green Bay Packer as Packers get that big victory
for the Lions seven and five. Green Bay now eight
three and one with the victory today. He is Aaron Torres.
I'm Dan Byer. Now the scene shifts to what's happening
in Dallas with the Chiefs and Cowboys, and the scene
will also shift to Oxford, Mississippi. What a weekend it
is for the Ole miss Rebels. The Egg Bowl on

(01:02:42):
Friday and then the decision on Saturday. We'll talk about
it next year on Fox Sports Radio.
