Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio iHeartRadio App. Hope you're
(00:22):
having a great day. We're broadcasting live from northeast Wisconsin,
Green Bay, Wisconsin where if you're if you check out
our YouTube channel, you can see the snow outside, but
otherwise we're in Sherman Oaks, California, where there's no snow.
There is no snow. Are you guys working on about
(00:43):
seventy eight degrees today? Seventy eight is that we're working on?
What do you think there?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
How about seventy two?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Sonny?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
And seventy two? Very nice in the valley.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
At least.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
I woke up today. It was so damn cold. It was.
It was so so so cool. We'll talk about in
the podcast. But Buyer, you know this because you're native wisconsinight,
But one reason that you root for snow as opposed
to just cold. It's not as cold when it snows.
(01:15):
Right when it snows, it's generally in the twenties to
low thirties. When it gets to cold cold, it's like
two cold of snow. Like the snow's like, yeah, I'm
not even going down there.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
And just an update from the Van Nuys Airport. As
of three to fifty one eastern twelve to fifty one
local time, the temperature was sixty eight degrees in the
valley here. This has been tabbed as our official weather spot.
So again the Sam on the temperature overshot it a
little bit. And the only reason I know this is
(01:45):
because I was gonna wear a polo today and I'm like,
I better go with pullover because it's not going to
be as warm as it's going to be a little
bit later on in the week. So we're not in
the seventies yet. It's just sixty eight here.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah, I'm seeing a revised high temper. Sure the day
of seventy degrees in Van Nights it is right now,
it is sixty eight.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
Sam. This is from your spot.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah, Sam was just he wanted to get the that's
the classic radio voice. Do that again, Sam, if you would.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
It's a revised forecast of I have seventy degrees today
at the Van Night's Airport.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
The strange thing is when Sam does radio voice off
the air, like when he doesn't have to. I've worked
with this guy for like eighteen months now. One of
the biggest enigmas that I find on a daily basis
is he does this radio voice off air. It's like,
who are you performing for here? Like we all have myself,
we all have an on air voice. I get that
(02:37):
on the air. I don't get doing it just a
normal conversation. Yeah, I had a pancakes this morning.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I do like to do my baseball announcer going, going, gone,
pull that out.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Everybody likes to do their nineteen twenties baseball announce it.
I mean, tell you Smitte then Smuckle comes up to
the plate, right. So what is it that Shane Gillis
does right in their bit that he does as well?
About back when broadcasters were cool and then all of
a sudden, Jackie Robinson sad to the plate and they
weren't cool anymore. It's pretty funny, very funny bit. Anyway,
(03:13):
it's beautiful. I'm sure where you are it's beautiful and
sunny here. But something Sam brought up that you know,
I thought is really interesting is there's also kind of
a sound blanket sort of effect when you get snow
that things like it does absorb sound, so it becomes
quieter wherever you are. These are real things, real things. Anyway,
(03:34):
here's another real thing. In the Doug Gotlieb Show on
Fox Sports Radio. Everybody talks NFL on Mondays. But usually
usually it's Cowboys, Usually it's Eagles, Usually it's Aj Brown,
it's whatever. The biggest name, biggest stars there are are.
But we're made up of four huge football fans. That's
(03:56):
why we want to do Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the
after Well.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
Tuesday, this is Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon. Mondays
can be overwhelming. Tuesdays start getting to whatever we didn't
get to on Monday. This is Tuesday Morning Quarterback in
the afternoon.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Dayson Stewart, take it.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Away, thik it up. I'll take it from here.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
I'll take it from here.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
I want to start off with a story that I
think Shadur was a was a story yesterday. Shaduur is
always a story. I think people in this business know
if you want ratings. You talked Shuder, but there was
something that happened specifically on Sunday that didn't really hit
the radar yesterday, and I wanted to discuss because both
Kevin Sefanski and Shaduur were asked about it today at
(04:44):
their press conferences. Jerry Judy was very animated on the
sideline with him. I'm guessing after a mis route or
a mispass or something, and Jerry Judy is like, very animated.
Now you can get into how Jerry Judy he is
extremely immature and not very bright and all that stuff,
but he is a football vet and he's talking to
(05:06):
a rookie, you know. Stefanski said today as he downplayed it,
and he's like, you know, it's like family members. You
get into arguments, But could we really believe what Kevin
Stefanski says ever? I mean, since that first Deshaun Watson
press conference to day, I think Stefanski has done a
great job of not telling us the truth for the
past two years. But this, I want to talk about,
(05:29):
this subculture, this opposition. If you're on the opposition or not. Now,
a lot of our listeners maybe this hasn't danger algorithm,
but it has a mine. And it was really hit
home last week when Kendrick Perkins went on a podcast
and basically said he did his own straw pole. Every
(05:50):
single black person in the world is rooting for the
success of Shador Sanders, and if you're not, you're a
member of the opposition. As I was watching Twitter during
the game on Sunday, I saw blue check marks referring
to Jerry Judy must be a part of the opposition
(06:11):
because he's being animated talking to his rookie quarterback.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
I saw that stuff too. It was amazing it.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
It's incredible to me that there is an entire population
of people who think this way, including former Pro Bowl
receiver James Jones. On that really bad show that Emmanuel
Acho does.
Speaker 7 (06:34):
I just don't like how aggressive he came over there. Man,
go talk to the young feller. But you coming over
there clapping and all like for Chadur to stand up.
That stand up is like, all right, Broll, you're doing
too much in your disrespect to me.
Speaker 8 (06:45):
Now, rookie, you're not shador.
Speaker 7 (06:47):
At making all him mantics and all that when you're
dropping the football.
Speaker 6 (06:49):
So man, come over here and talk to me.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Man, let's get this day right.
Speaker 7 (06:52):
You gotta come over here clapping your hands and talking
all tough and talking all crazy.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
So James Jones is a part of the Chadur group
and if you're against him, you're the position. Donald Trump
has mentioned Shador Sanders in the social media in the
last six days. We Lebron James was live tweeting after
Shador Sanders, who was first passed on Sunday. It's one
of those things where I want to know more about it,
and I don't understand the sentiment that you have to
(07:18):
be with him or you have to be against him.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
It's it's nuts nuts. I saw that same stuff too, Jason.
That's a great pull by you. It's like, really, and
the crazy thing is now part of it is it's
obvious a lot of former pros don't like Jerry Judy.
He does leave the league in drops, but it's like,
we don't know what he's talking about. And he's probably right, right,
he's probably right, He's just right message, wrong messenger. But
(07:46):
to act like these are guys that all don't want,
you know, don't want to shine of. This is why
Shoudor Sanders can't be a backup quarterback. What you're doing
by bringing attention to stuff means the only way Shaudor's
in the NFL is as a starter. I'm telling you
right now. The Browns, that's what they got to figure
out is if he's a starter, because if they draft
(08:07):
a first round draft picks a quarterback, he's going to play,
go play, and you can't play that guy and have
the noise of a fifth round pick who's not the starter.
Have this much? Have this many SIKA fans just kissing
his butt every time anything happened.
Speaker 5 (08:27):
Set one more point on the just the Lebron comment.
Do you think Lebron has Sunday ticket or do you
think he just watched because Niners Browns was the local
game in Southern California along with Panthers and Rams.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I would guess neither. I'm guessing he literally saw a
highlight on his Twitter timeline and he reacted to that.
I'm guessing he wasn't watching it.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
On I would too because the touchdown pass, It's like, again,
I was watching the game the first eight plays of
the drive I believe it runs, and then they touched up.
I was like, oh, I should dominating this drive. But
it's like, h no.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
So just to clarify, it can't be neither though. Do
you think he has Sunday ticket or not?
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (09:22):
Sure, I yeah, I just I'm just I mean think
about it like it's not spend.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Personally goes in and orders it. No.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
Yeah, but like does TV, he has all of it,
probably right, all of it.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
I'm gonna name drop here because you guys have been
there with me Matt Holiday's house. It's literally have all
all the services.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
It's like what you have everything?
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Yes, I got every service.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I got MGM plus, I got HBO Max.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Meanwhile, my family, my I just found out my daughter
Harper has Peacock and I'm like, hey, uh, I want
to give me that Peacock password like Peacock.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
I'll be watching KANOK later today with Michigan State.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Use I use a buddy's paramount. I'm just shout out
to my boy Jason, I use your paramount. Thank you.
Land Man was awesome. Season two. Land Man's been really good.
Some other stuff on Paramount. And then I you know
the Netflix thing they're tracking you down on Netflix. That
thing's hard.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Land Man Man that I don't know. I tried to
watch season one.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I've seen clips, and I find it'd be very engaging
and interesting. Just what did you like the clips? Just
a clips though, Dan.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
It's I mean, what didn't you like? I'm sorry the.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
Whole dialogue, like the top, Yeah, everything ends up with
you know yo, my ex wife and guess what, well,
I guess we didn't go to bed together, and it's this,
I'm gonna come to town. We'll find you in bed,
like it's all right, Oh, guess what. Here comes the
blonde and there's an old guy working in the office.
(10:57):
My mom said she's inner bikini and it's like, oh
my gosh, oh my, oh gosh, what's been happening in here?
Speaker 3 (11:05):
I love I love the examples you just used, Dan, Dan,
I need to walk you off of this, and I
need to walk you back on because it's an amazing
show other than the daughter and the wife. If you
could somehow get in your brain that you'll ignore what
any storyline involving those two that are super annoying, the
(11:26):
rest of the show is really good. So I'm glad
you use those examples because I think each example involves
one of the two women, and you're right, it's ridiculous.
The dialogue is stupid. The storyline's ridiculous, but the show's
great sounds like a contradiction.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, I again, I actually I see both of your points.
I agree. I would only tell you that what's the
name of the wife? What's the wife's named? She was
in Varsity Blues, she did the whipped cream.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
I don't, I don't know, don't I'm not, I don't
have you don't know, don't know what life is.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
The actress's name, I do not know.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Really, I'm looking at so you guys know this show.
Is it Rebecca? No, she was not the one in
Varsity Blues? Was it Angela? Yeah, I'm talking okay. Angela
is Ali Larterer, a.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
L Alli Lighter. Ali Larder did the whipped cream in
Varsity Blues. That's how long she's around. I listen. I
agree most of them, like going to the old folks
home and getting them all drunk is so not realistic,
and doing multiple times even less realistic. Whatever. I don't
want your live. Yes, but it is a good show.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
My mom watches every show out there available, and I'm like,
have you watched land Man? And she specifically brought up
She's like, it's good, except the women on the show
are just like insufferable.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
They are in although Ali Larder's character in the last
episode does make sense. It's like, oh okay, but now
they actually made her, made it kind of part of
the show and are over the top whatever it actually works.
You start to kind of understand.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
We got and we went through about I would say
half the season. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
No, it's the very last episode. So this is two
and a half, a season and a half in, and
then you're like, oh, okay, she'll actually help the whole story. Otherwise, yeah,
she's a How did we get on the land Man
Paramount Buss talk about all the streaming services?
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Yes, that's how it was. Lebron on the Sunday Ticket.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
There you go. Lebron have Sunday Ticket? Yes? Does he
know how to use it? Does he know how to
press the button to make it multiview on his YouTube TV?
I'm going with no, I'm.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Going there all right, I'm gonna make mine real quick here, Okay,
we got it. The NFL needs to adopt my idea,
especially after this happened on Sunday night football overtime Coin
Toss Broncos and Commanders.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
His tails.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
And it his head.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
We're gonna tick that way, kick that way, chick that way.
Well you're gonna kick, you'll receive this way.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
Yes or no. It's not the strategy which the Commanders
made the right choice in not taking the ball first.
It's the ref didn't even understand what was going on
and then allowed the Commanders to not only kick, but
kicking the direction that they wanted to kick. The Broncos
actually had the decision to choose. Because the Commanders chose
(14:22):
to kick. This isn't the first time we've messed this up.
I think it's it's just it's real easy. Number one,
the NFL has enough money to make a coin for
every single NFL game, and what's heads and tails is
both teams auction it it off after every game, sell it.
Say guess what I have the coin flip from Commanders
(14:44):
Broncos that overtime game and if it's Broncos, Broncos get
the choice. If it's Commanders, Commanders get the choice. But
the referees don't even understand the new overtime rules, and
they're still messed up because we're back in the old
way of thinking that you take the ball so you
like you're gonna kick, and then he was so miffed
by that that he didn't realize that they didn't have
(15:06):
the option to choose the direction. And so the NFL
really needs to they need to straighten this out, especially
before the playoffs, because if this becomes an issue, that's
all we're gonna be talking about. But this is not
the first time that they have not figured out. And
I'm talking about the referees who actually are officiating the game. Yes,
know what's going on.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
You're right, Jay Stu Tuesday Morning Quarterback.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yeah, yeah, that whole shaduur rant was mine. But I'd
love to hear Sam's.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Well, this is the best time to address this. This
is the absolute most appropriate, ideal time to talk about
how wrong I was about the Patriots. Dan does this
prediction sheet here in the Fox Sports Radio main production studio.
He's been doing this for years. You know, stuff like
you'r NFC champion, your AFC champion, your Super Bowl champion,
your MVP, and worst team, and then there's an out
(16:00):
on the limb pick. And my out on the limb
pick was that the Patriots would go nine and eight,
nine and eight, And it wasn't that they would, you know,
perform down and disappoint us and go nine and eight.
It was that they would barely fall above five hundred
at the end of the year. Because I just did
(16:21):
not do any kind of deep I just didn't know
how good Drake may would be under the tutelage of
Mike Rabel. I did not do the deep dive. I
was completely wrong. I was ignorant on the matter, and
I just want to say it and clear the air.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
And the over under for the Patriots win total was
eight and a half and see Sam's y. So Sam's
out on a limb was that they would beat it
by a half game.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
I just did not have that data in front of me.
And here's the thing. I remember, Drake May at UNC
passed for a ton of yards under mac Brown thought
he was awesome that that passing attack was just very
much pass oriented. But I'm like, does he did. I
think he'd be a generational NFL player, absolutely, And I
just thought there'd be a little struggle. I know, we
talked about this early show.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
I really thought there'd be struggles at Wyoming.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Yeah, it took him a few years.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Yeah, but like for for.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
You to go from one coach Gid Mayo to Mike
Rabel and then you're in your second year. I just
thought that the progress would be slower. I did not
get enough suffering out of the New England Patriots. They're
right back to being dominant and elite, and I just
thought they'd maybe aw squeeze out a nine to eight record.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
The fix is this, I think from now on, Dan
needs to do an out on the limb category, any
very close to the tree trunk category, your most unimaginative
prediction that isn't going out on a limb, and then
Sam could fill that one out without doing any data races.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Just from then, can I talk about a team that
no one talks about? And here they are at eight
and four, right, And it's all of these teams are
kind of the same, Like we're just honest to ourselves.
Does anybody really know if the Indianapolis culture any gain? No? Right, Like,
Jonathan Taylor's good, they have some good pieces, but Danny
(18:05):
Dimes their quarterback.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
You're like, I don't know, Well, Dan, you brought up
yesterday some an issue.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
Yeah, he's got a fracture in his leg and he
can't run anymore. And that actually and he's a.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Very athletic quarterback. Yes, But again my point is more
there's a bunch of these teams out there, Bears. Again,
our question is the quarterback. But the record is really good.
You know, Seattle. I think one we can't tell of.
Dan's not talking about Seattle because he doesn't want to
jinx it or because he, like everybody like when it
gets to be the playoffs, you don't trust Sam darl
(18:37):
But there's another guy in that kind of mix. And
I'm not trying to cut you out, Dan, just trying
to get to this kind of the parallels here. The
Jacksonville Jaguars are eight and four. They've won three in
a row, and like I like to do this, who
have they actually beaten? I know they beat the Titans
distinct last week, but they have beaten the Chargers badly
at home. Granted their beat up the Chargers of the
playoff team. They beat the Niners on the road, they
beat the Chiefs at home. They got a couple of
(18:59):
decent good wins. Good wins, and in this we don't
know who's actually any good because you think the Bills
are good, but then they sometimes play like crap. Right,
New England. It feels a little bit too soon for
them to be this good. The Colts nobody knows they're
any good. Steelers not that good. Bengals looked like they're
too far. Ravens aren't good this year, Chiefs aren't great
(19:21):
this year. Broncos is like, your record's good, but nobody
buys in their quarterback. The same is true for the Jaguars.
Have any how many snaps of Jaguars football have you watched? Tambire?
Speaker 5 (19:37):
I think I'm more than than than most great, but yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
I like a lot of people watch that Chiefs game.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
Yeah I've watched that Chiefs game. Yeah, I've watched more.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
But they're like that. They're like the sneaky team that's
sitting there going like, wait, the Jaguars in the playoffs?
Are they any good? The defense is good, they don't
run the football particularly well, and at least they they
did in this past weekend. I watched them a bunch
this weekend, and Trevor Lawrence looked really good. But I'm
struggling because it was against the bad football team that
he didn't throw any interceptions sixteen touchdowns, eleven perceptions in
(20:09):
the year he's been okay, but they're not bad. And
as we search for these, AFC is going to be
super random. It looks like as of now, Broncos, Jaguars, Colts,
like Patriots, not the teams we thought will be in
the playoffs. But the Jaguars are right there, and they
have some guys that have experienced a little bit of playoffs,
(20:32):
even a playoff win over the Chargers couple years ago.
It's just an interesting team that no one is paying attention.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
And I'm glad you brought that point up because as
we were doing the group text, and I appreciate all
your contributions. Today, Doug says, I'm taking Jacksonville. Literally zero
people talk about him ever, and other than Sam during
this segment. The last time we were together.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
It was right after the Chargers when they beat the
Chargers thirty five to six, and I was I mean,
at that point there were six and four, and I
was like, is Trevor Lawrence good? Is this Jags team good?
But I think they're still flying under the radar.
Speaker 5 (21:12):
Highest strength and victory of any of the teams in
the AFC playoff picture right now of the top seven Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Thank you for helping me make my point with far
more preparation than me. I appreciate it. And that is
Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon. Well Tuesday Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
What he got, Yeah, Doug. Couple of notes lines.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Wide receiver I'm on Ross Saint Brown said today that
his status for Thursday's game against the Cowboys still up
in the air. Missed a second straight practice because of
an ankle injury. Pittsburgh Steelers claimed wide receiver Adam Thielen
off of waivers from the Vikingsteelan wanted to be let
go after he was inactive this past Sunday against the
Seahawks and wanted to go to a contender. He was
(22:27):
claimed by Pittsburgh Brown's defensive tackle on Lee Collins placed
on injured reserve. Speaking of injuries, report from ESPN says
Pelicans forward Zion Williamson is going to miss at least
three weeks because of a right adductor injury. So Derek
White yes, play against Williamson is hurt. Yes. Came back
a couple of weeks ago after missing a couple of
(22:49):
weeks because of a hamstring injury. Sham says played in
five of the seven games between then and now, and
now we'll miss at least three weeks of action because
of that adductor injury. Celtics card Derek White gonna play
tonight against the next Danelo Gallinari retiring from professional oops.
Doug back to you.

championship lines. He joins us now. In the Doug Gottlieb
Show on Fox Sports Radio, Danny, what do you think
should happen to Ole Miss when the College Football Playoff
rankings come out tonight?
Speaker 8 (23:30):
Nothing? I think they should be treated to like So
it's funny because they've been compared to Florida State two
years ago when Florida State was you know, dropped and
left out of the playoff. And I have Florida State
fans telling me, oh, well, remember they did this, so
they have to do this now. I didn't want to
do it to Florida State then and I don't want
them to do it to All Miss now because those
players are the ones that brought that team to the
(23:52):
College Football Playoff. And I know there is a lot
of offensive you know, wisdom that has gone now on
that plane to Baton Rouge. You know, you've got the
head coach's a wizard, You've got the play call in
Charlie Weiss, and you have a co offensive coordinator and
Joe Cox all gone but turn out Chambliss, Kewan Lacy, like,
those players are the ones that mean the most, and
(24:14):
I don't think they should be punished for something that
they had nothing to do. With so, although that's my opinion,
but I don't know what the committee's gonna do.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Okay, just so you know, in the last thirty minutes,
Charlie Weiss has been named offensive coordinator of Old Miss,
so he will be coaching. You will have the same
play caller coaching.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
My issue is I missed that news.
Speaker 8 (24:36):
Appreciate you breaking that to me.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
No, no, no, no, no problem. I had to. I've
been duped by fake accounts today, so I wanted to
make sure it wasn't a fank account. So I actually
texted his dad. His Dad's like, yeah, that's really that's
really happening. Anyways, great, so and Ole Miss but then
put it out about two minutes ago. But but my
thing is like, I don't think I don't think the
term is punished. I just don't. I think are they
(24:59):
as good a football team without Lane Kiffen as they
were with Lane Kiffen. That's the question.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
I think those players on the field. To me, it
is different when a player is injured versus a coach,
especially now if you have the same play caller like
Pete Golding is the defensive play caller Charlie Weis and
thanks for telling me. Now that he's back, it makes
me feel even more comfortable. I think Lane Kiffen was
more of a figurehead that is kind of the face
(25:25):
of the program that is doing the recruiting, kind of
setting the tone set in the course. I think this
team could potentially rally around each other and be even
better potentially.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
So you think they're just as good.
Speaker 8 (25:37):
Yes, I don't think there will be any drop off
without Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Okay, okay, yeah, all right, what do you do? What's
what matters this weekend? Right? We got games that but
some of it's like like Georgia, do you go for it?
Like you run the and you know they're sitting there
going like, hey, SEC championship still matters. Big Ten Championship
(26:01):
still matter? But does it no?
Speaker 8 (26:03):
And that's a big conundrum college football is in right
now where what's really at stake? I think the Big
Twelve Championship matters for one team like BYU needs to
win that game to get in. If Texas Tech loses it,
where they'll be ranked probably five tonight. They don't, they
should be fine. So I think for BYU it's a
play in game for the Big Ten. You've got two
(26:25):
undefeated I do think there's a risk potentially if you
saw one team get beat by three touchdowns, maybe they
drop out of the first round by So that's at
risk potentially, And then the SEC, does Georgia want to
win it that's a win or I do think Kirby
Smart definitely wants to win that. I know he's been
very open. He's probably been the most passionate about conference
(26:47):
championship games, specifically the SEC. But I also think there's
a chance they could knock Alabama out of the tournament
if they beat them significantly enough, depending on where Alabama
comes out tonight, but it could be their third loss.
And if it's ugly, I do and with the crowded team,
you know the number of teams that are ten and two,
I think it could potentially knock Alabama out. So I
(27:08):
think there's an incentive there. And then the ACC is
just an absolute disaster like that one. Duke and Virginia
are playing for a spot, so it means something, But
it's almost the worst case scenario for the ACC. If
Duke does win the game at seven and five, it
makes you potentially not get a team in the College
football Playoffs.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
It's crazy. It is absolutely absolutely crazy to think of
what do you do with Texas?
Speaker 8 (27:31):
I keep them out. I just I think, you know,
and I appreciate Steve Sarkisan. I think they have to
make their case. I totally understand it, and I get
his point about Ohio State. And if they didn't play
that game that you know that wouldn't it wouldn't have matter.
They would see ten and two and they'd be at
the top of the list. I just think you've got
to go with the games you've played. And it's very
similar to last year, where if you would have just
(27:54):
beaten Florida finished the season at four and eight, you're
in the College Football playoffs. You know, if you had
and I think you and more so if he had
kept it close against Oklahoma or against Georgia. I mean
they got excuse me, they beat Oklahoma, but against Georgia
they lost by twenty five points, so two of their losses.
One was disqualifying because the opponent, the other one was
(28:15):
a blowout loss. And I know they've beaten some pretty
good teams, but a resume is not just your best moments,
it's the entirety of the whole season. So I think
Texas will be looking out on the outside looking at
I am more. If I was in the room, I
would be making that case. I just feel like Texas
had their opportunity and they missed it with one or
two of those two losses.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Stut Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. What college
coaching hire are you most tired about? Do you like
the best?
Speaker 8 (28:47):
I'll say I think as much as Florida Gator fans
are not excited and they're almost on a pr campaign.
I've seen Urban Meyer tweet out of video, Danny Warfel
tweet out of video. You know, Tim Tebow showing their Hey,
we love John Sumrall. I think he's a really good
football coach. He won it Troy. I've talked to him
a few times. He is super impressive with what he
(29:08):
brings to the table. He's brought a winner to Tulane.
I think he's the type of guy that actually will
bring a physical defense and mindset and then you have
to find the play caller. But I do trust he'll
bring an offense with him on the other side of
the football that will put up some points. Will it
be the fun and gun, Will it be the Tim
Tebow let offense? I don't think so, but I think
(29:30):
he's a winner. I think John Sumrall at the University
of Florida is probably one of my favorites. Now I
might be biased because I've talked to him a few
times and I've always left really, really impressed, But I
do think he's going to help Florida get back on track.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
I have to tell you Florida people, Okay, I have
this from two very high level athletic directors that that
guy is big time, big time. All these guys that
got jobs, we're all guys that all the athletic rights. Like,
if they get to the SEC and they get the
right budget, they'll be good. They just will. And the
problem with fans, his fans don't know anything that's zero zero.
(30:07):
And here's one thing that they should know. Nick Saban was.
I don't know how many people do people remember that
Nick Saban wasn't Like the whole process of Alabama landing
on Nick Saban, right, they wanted, they want They hired uh,
what's his name from Washington State. That was a disaster.
Then they wanted Rich Rod Rich Rod turned him down
(30:28):
and went to Michigan. Then they landed on Saban yep.
Speaker 8 (30:32):
And the other other thing too that I think is interesting.
I don't know how Old I don't know how Lane
Kiffen's gonna do with LSU, Like I mean, and that's
the thing. He's such a prize possession and I do
think he's a really good football coach. But LSU is
a unique They're gonna have much different expectations, and like
there's you just never know how his quirky personality, which
everybody loves right now that he's out there and he's
(30:54):
he's on social media and he puts out these cryptic
tweets and he does all this stuff. Like everybody loved that. Now,
well do they love it if you're nine and three
or eight and four and you're on the outside of
the playoffs all of a sudden, that change is in
a hurry. And I know he's got a pretty good
track record, but if you really dig into some of
the games, the record at Old Miss, like the record
this season, they've only played four Group of five teams.
(31:16):
They did beat Oklahoma, but it was really a pretty
easy schedule. It was a pretty easy schedule last year
and they lost at home to Kentucky. Like I just
look at that and if I was them, I would
hire him right Like, I'm okay with them hiring him.
But the desperation that fan bases were showing for Lane Kiffin,
I think it speaks to that delusion of fan bases,
(31:37):
like I think Ole miss might be fine because you
can go out and play players, and that's one of
the reasons Lane Kiffin did so well. They were one
of the first ones to really take advantage of NIL
and go after it aggressively. Then everybody else kind of
caught up. And I know LSU is going to give
him all the resources he needs, but it's going to
be as much tougher, trickier road for them. The schedule
gets tougher, the expectations rise up that much. I'll be
(32:00):
very very curious to see how it unfolds. And they're
going to expect the national championship by year three, maybe four,
And if it doesn't come, we know how it goes.
They just get restless and they start wondering, was this
a mistake?
Speaker 1 (32:11):
H Real quick, Danny, we have some breaking news that
I want to go to Dan Byer for then get
your reaction to it. Here's Dan Byer with breaking.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
News, Breaking news from Fox Sports.
Speaker 5 (32:26):
Just within the past few minutes, a report from ESPN
says that Klanie Sataki has told those around him he
was going to stay at BYU and is no longer
a candidate for the Penn State vacancy.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Okay, so so two questions. First, is smart mover dumb
move for Klonie Sataki? And then second question, I know
we're not supposed to add double headers, but we're tight on time.
Who should Penn State higher?
Speaker 8 (32:46):
Oh Man, I think this is a really smart move
for Kalani Sintaki. I think you can create a consistent
winner at BYU. You've got you can be a hero.
They'll have a statue there. He's already got a winning culture.
And I do think Penn State is a great job.
And this is really interesting because Penn State when they
fired James Franklin, they thought they were gonna get Kirksin
Netti or Matt Ruhle or whoever they were. Kaylen de
(33:08):
Boor's name has been out there, and then they couldn't
get Kilannie Sintaki because those BYU, you know, boosters, came
to the table like we don't want to lose our guy.
I love it for Kalanie Sintaki. I love it for BYU,
but the bigger question now is where the heck does
it Penn State turn I. You know, we were talking
about the SEC championship. I bet they're rooting for Georgia
in a blowout to potentially come out with that one.
(33:30):
And then maybe Kaylen de Boor does make, you know,
change his mind. Maybe he does want to get out
of Alabama and go to Penn State. The other name
I would keep any one is Brent Key at Georgia Tech.
He has not done a re up deal like we
saw from Clark Lee and Vanderbilt. I think he'd be
a physical coach that would really bring a mentality that
Penn State fans would love. But this is getting a
little bit squirrely from Penn State because there's a lot
(33:51):
of these you know, it's like a game of musical chairs.
They're all starting to fill up, and where the heck
is Penn State can to go as anybody.
Speaker 1 (33:57):

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Press, Doug.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
We start out with the breaking news from college football
that Kaloni Sataki is going to stay at BYU and
not go to Penn State. That first reported by ESPN's p.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
It is interesting the again, I told people a long
time ago, and I know it to be true. The
whole idea that you got to fire a guy early
so that it gets you ahead of in the hiring
process is so dumb. It it just makes no sense.
All you've done is say our football season's over, we
(35:23):
don't care about student athletes, senior Day anything, because you
can still you could have fired James Franklin after right
before the last game, say this is last game and
he's gonna go out, and that's it. Nothing would have
changed James Franklin's fine, you got a Virginia Tech job.
You gave him a chance to get a new job.
And maybe that was the idea because it gives him
the runway and they don't have much offset, so it
(35:44):
doesn't save a bunch of money. But Penn State has
fumbled this thing, and like most schools, they've overvalued who
they are. You know, one of the things that's funny
is Florida like mad about getting John John Summer else
a great candidate, great hire. Who'd you think you were
gonna get? Who do you think you're gonna get? You
have such an inflated vision of who you are. You've
(36:07):
got a guy who just resurrected two lane football? What
more do you need?
Speaker 5 (36:11):
I don't understand, Jason, you want to in on this.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
I just I want to ask you, guys, how cool
is it that the guys keep staying at BYU? How
cool is that for BYU fans and the players? I
mean how many?
Speaker 1 (36:24):
I mean, look BYU. They have a ton of money,
a ton of money, but they've always been limited not
by the resources, but limited because just some kids don't
want to play at BUYU. I think it's great.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
I think Sataki has done a great job. It seemed
like a really weird fit for him and Penn State.
And I don't I don't it just I that just.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Likes to carry themselves as holier than now. That's that's
why they That's why.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Yeah, Sam, I was just you mentioned that some Florida
fans are voicing frustration over the hire of summer All.
Maybe I don't know if is it because Billy Napier
also coached at sort of a you know, mid major
and Louisian and of raging Cajun's, so like, oh, we
want a big name, but they're hiring someone from smaller comp.
Speaker 5 (37:04):
They're mad because Ling Kiffin shows LSU into that too.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
That's why that's it.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
Yeah, Yes, And Joe Shane shows himself over Brian Daboll
And was asked to explain that today my.
Speaker 9 (37:14):
Hand's in it just like Brian's, and ownership made a
decision to move on, and again I'm going to do
what I can control, what I can control, and that
support Kafka moving forward. And again I wish Dave's nothing
but the best, and we're going to do everything we
can to get this franchise back to where where it
should be.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
The Giants. GM asked why he still has a job
and Brian Dable doesn't.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
I love that the buck stops here. I fired somebody else. Hey,
ownership shows a different guy, So I'm good.
Speaker 5 (37:42):
Tiger Woods has made a lot of bucks in his career.
But he turns fifty later on this month.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
It's for thirty first, right New Year's.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
He and Lebron share the same birthday. It's like the
twenty eighth, twenty ninth. That's around that time, twenty seven,
twenty ninth. Baby, maybe it's the thirtieth, but it's not.
It's after Christmas and it's before New Year's. I know
that for sure, Tiger asked today on as he turns fifty,
his possible schedule with Champions Tour and the Regular Tour.
(38:09):
Tiger in his comedic ways, Yeah.
Speaker 10 (38:12):
I'm probably gonna play probably twenty five events on both tours,
and I think I should cover most of the.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Year, right. No, I'm just looking for back to just
let me get back to playing again. I just want
to let me do that and then I'll kind of
figure out what the schedule is going to be. I'm
a ways away from that part of it and that
kind of that type of decision, that type of commitment level.
Speaker 5 (38:35):
Oh man, can we get can we get some big laughs?
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Sam?
Speaker 5 (38:39):
Can we can we play this one more time and
get some real big audience laughter from our sad machine. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (38:46):
I'm probably gonna play probably twenty five events on both tours,
and I think I should cover most of the year, right, I.
Speaker 6 (38:56):
Just like we drew it up, like we drew.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Oh that.
Speaker 5 (39:05):
Uh, just good, good stuff. Zion Williamson out at least
three weeks because of an abductor strain. No way, yes,
oh what. Adam Thielen wanted to go to a playoff
contender and the Steelers claimed them, like, be careful what
you wish for.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
He will show up to meetings on time.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
Yes he will, Yes, he will. I just don't know
if contenders how we call the Steelers and that's the press.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
They get out there and pressed. That was the press, Dan,
they're contending for a playoff spot by definition, they're a contender,
right right, So you have the podcast available right now.
It's Doug Gottlieb show, Fox, Sports Radio,
