you're listening to Fox Sports Radio Boom America Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio, coming to you from the beautiful city
of angels as we react to an outstanding night in
the NBA. Doug Gottlieb Show is brought to you by
Farmers and Farmers. We've seen almost everything, so we know

(00:42):
how to cover almost anything. When it's game time, have
an experienced player help you put stay ahead of the game,
put their experience in the plan. At Farmers dot Com.
Are farmers, so here's what happens. Here's what happens. Um
I had a what I thought was a very solid
take on Steph Curry which admits both his greatness and

(01:07):
the flaw within his style that can be exposed because
the change in officiating in the playoffs and when an
NBA star like how Kuzma picks it up. He either
did not listen to the take and only read the
headline very possible, or simply had a completely different takeaway

(01:28):
than ever actually listened that then my intent of the
take the take was this look. I admit that, like
many people, I underestimated what Steph Curry would be in
the NBA. I thought my ending analysis the day of
the draft when he was drafted was he would have

(01:50):
a Jeff hornasec like career, some points, some two, tremendous
overall player, some great years, a lot of good. But
could he He wasn't really seen as a dynamic point
guard because he hadn't played the point much in college
only one year, and I wondered whether or not he
could get by people, he could defend and he could

(02:12):
keep up with the physicality league. The league has evolved
and changed. Some of that is his play, some of
that is their need for more offense, and obviously he
has benefited from it, as the league has benefit from
his stardom. But Kyle Kuzma tweets out he has three
rings L O L. What am I reading? What am

(02:33):
I reading this right? And then I watched last night's game.
UM watched last night's game and I was kind of reaffirmed.
Steph wasn't terrible, but he wasn't forty five point takeover.

(02:57):
No one on the court could guard him. Steph I obviously,
Clay Thompson struggled, Andrew Goodala came back to earth. Sean
Liviston looked well old, and they struggled. The box out
the stronger and tougher p J. Tucker, the nuisance that
is CP three ZP three. James Harden did his James
Harden thing, and the Houston Rockets really survived. The Golden

(03:20):
State Warriors survived the Golden State Warriors. The Rockets went
small with p J. Tucker at center, and that seemed
to be just what the doctor ordered, as the Warriors
couldn't box out Tucker. He only got credited for five
offensive rebounds, but he got far more than he just
tipped out to somebody else. But my affirmation came from this.

(03:48):
How many did Kevin Durant have last night? What do
you like? Thirty five? Last night? Reenty four? It seems
like when you watch Kevin Durant, you know how the
where he ends He's gonna end up with thirty Everything
else is very much up in the air. You might
get fifteen or eighteen or twenty from Steff. You might

(04:10):
get forty. You might get ten, twelve from Clay, fifteen
from Clay, you might get fifty. It's the wide variances,
and that is in fact the difference. I stand by
the fact that you can just mug and be physical.
Even Steph Curry, look I thought he got He was
on the wrong side of a couple of non calls

(04:31):
where he drove in and in the regular season those
would have been absolute And once some of his jump
shots in the perimeter where they challenged him and he
fell down because he thought there was contact. Those would
have been called fouls in the regular season. In the
postseason they would not. Now, of course, Steph made the
big three to cut into two with eleven half seconds

(04:52):
to go, and then James Harden missed the second free
throw and Kevin Durant had a chance to tie it,
so did Steph. Neither made it, and the Houston Rockets survive.
But I stand by that the officiating changed in the postseason,
and that though the overall the gross stats four staff

(05:13):
are the same, the individual game by game variances Hey
the game one and two against the Clippers, Kevin Durant
had twenty one and twenty three. That's the fewest he
scored this entire postseason. Whereas you look at Steph Curry

(05:37):
and all of a sudden, seventeen eighteen, twelve one, those
are all in the postseason, and those are all the
fewest he scored this season as well. He's had these
wild swings. Now, the law of averages mean he's probably
gonna have a forty point game, and you would think
Clay Thompson would as well. And it's hard to read

(06:00):
Clay Thompson whether or not he's pouting because he's mad
at himself, he's mad at the officials, or he's mad
at not getting the ball. This, by the way, is
one of the things that Clay Thompson was famous for
before he became an NBA star, which is kind of
a bad body language guy at times. Kevin Durant's regular

(06:20):
season twenty five point eight points per game. His postseason
is thirty point two points per game. Steph since Durrant
joined the Warriors is twenty six points per game, twenty
six points per game in the postseason. He was superhuman

(06:40):
when everything revolved around him at times and he's a
little bit less superhuman when the ball goes through Kevin Durant.
But it's allowed them to win the last two championships,
which I don't think they would have won without. And
the Houston Rockets continue to force forced Kevin Durant to

(07:01):
take and make big, contested shots, and for the most
part he's come through and Clay and to a lesser extent,
staph As not nearly as much. Look, I don't think
it's simply that there's some flaw in Steph Curry. I
think it's his body type. You can beat him up.
I think it's the officiating. I think it's game planning
and making somebody else beat you. I think it's the

(07:24):
pace of the game. In transition, he's better and there's
more openings than when it's in the half court. I
think all of these things combined, and then the fact
that they are playing more through Kevin Durant because he
shown the ability to lead the way he is running
a little bit of a fever that is in fact
good basketball. Whoever's got it going, that's who you go to.

(07:46):
Kevin Durant's had it going, So context doesn't matter. Right,
somebody reads a text somebody reads a tweet, what is
the context to all of it? To Kyle Kuzma, it's
not some indictment of step Curry the player. It's that's
the reality of every year we seem to be getting
here and people asking what's the matter with Steph Curry,

(08:08):
And the answer is nothing. He's the nature of when
you shoot from the distance he shoots, and how he plays,
and the toughness of the defense and the frailness at
times although stronger than he's ever been in his body.
And he's gonna have these swings. And with a small

(08:30):
sample size, this is what happens. The larger the sample size,
ultimately water wifine its level and they'll be able to
pick apart weaker opponents. The question is whether that will
happen before it's too late, as they're now tied two
games apiece to the Houston Rockets. And if you think
that this series isn't about who's pushing who and the

(08:54):
physic physicality, I tell you the voice of reason this
whole thing is Draymond Green. Think it's just a mindset,
you know. I think we're kind of we're going to
a fight thinking it's a fair fight, and it's not
they're doing whatever it takes to win, and now that
they're like doing anything dirty or nothing like that, but
they're doing whatever it takes to win, and we're just

(09:16):
kind of rolling and look like, oh yeah, we'll box
and they're slamming us. So we got to just change
our mindset. And I think if we changed our mindset, uh,
you know, then we'll be just fine. But we haven't
these last two games. And the first two games, I
think it was a complete opposite. I think we were
taking it to them and they weren't really responding as
far as the physicality went. And so, uh, that's the

(09:39):
difference in this series. Is that's why it's two the
two I know we'll change that and it starts with me. Yeah,
I co could agree more. And by the way, the
best part of what Draymond Green said was it starts
with me, right. That really what missed the mark and
the Kyrie irving I took two shots, should have taken
thirty because actually think if you listen to the entirety

(10:01):
and we'll play it for you, of what Kyrie said,
there wasn't anything he said that was wrong, but only
he could have avoided any sort of pitfall in a
postgame comment and just said we gotta be better. It
starts with me, which is what Draymond Green did. Draymond
Green is not as talented and offensive player as Kyrie Irving,
but probably the reason that he's won more championships and

(10:24):
he's seen a little bit more as a winning player
is just a comment like that, even if it doesn't
have to be a reality. Draymond was plenty physical. It
wasn't a wanton thing. You know, Kevin Rant for all
his skill, he's got a bat box out. P J
Tucker better. They have to rebound collectively as a team,
not allowed tip outs things they got in games won

(10:45):
Game two, but they didn't. Clay Thompson can't be as
affected by missing shots and by guys underneath him, and
I'm guessing you will. But this whole discussion about guys,
I do I think there are guys that choke under pressure. Yeah,

(11:09):
right now, I haven't seen any of that from the Warriors.
I don't think it's a choking thing. I think this
is the nature of shooters. Shooters are weird. They can
go often. There's no stick. There's no reason that the
Houston Rockets should have been twenty seven consecutive threes last
year in game seven. No reason that should have happened,

(11:32):
But that's how shooters were. That's that's one of the
things that happens with shooting threes, With shooting jump shots,
it's it's one of those analytics, be damned thing. And
now you can't explain why Kevin Durant when he gets
to seventeen and nineteen feet on the right side of
the hoop, why he makes that shot more than seventeen

(11:53):
eighteen feet from any other part other than that's the spot.
And with analytics, it's you gotta take threes, you gotta
take Okay. The thing about missing jump shots, especially for
great three point shooters, is it does become contagious. There
shouldn't be hot streaks, there shouldn't be cold streaks. There's
just the percentage of times you make each individual shot,

(12:16):
and it should not carry over, but we all know
it does. Steph Curry, I'll score thirty five and fifteen,
and then a average and then a leverage you know,
a game, which he does in the regular season, which
he does in the postseason. Durant will just score thirty
a night in the playoffs, night in the in the

(12:39):
regular season, and now it's a consistency versus variety sort
of thing. Now stocks can be like this. The volatility
of shooters is on display with the Golden State Warriors.
And that's, by the way, why this all works. You've
got one guy that's consistent, kind of bucket getter and

(13:00):
just finds a way cumulatively to end up with somewhere
in the thirty two with eight and five. And then
you've got a guid than two other guys that can
give you forty or might give you fifteen. Kevin O'Connor
from The Ringer joins the show. Up Coming next will
turn to the Celtics, his beloved team. He authored a
piece a couple of days ago chronicling how he got

(13:21):
his first job with the Celtics blog covering the Celtics

Sports Radio. We'll talk to some Celtics and Bucks and

(15:30):
let's do so with Kevin O'Connor, who writes for The Ringer.
Super talented writer and of course, uh, you're he's a
lifelong Celtics fan. What what I didn't know was his
path to getting his first job after being an intern
with the Celtics broadcast and then you know, starting to
write for the Celtics blog, and then all of a sudden,
now he's you know, I mean I read this stuff

(15:51):
because it's really good. Of course they got podcasts off
of the Ringer they are excellent. And then I didn't
know that his father was it was sick with cancer
and he authored a piece which if you read it,
good luck keeping a dry eye. You can follow them
on Twitter. Kevin, what was what was the response to
your piece after you put it out? Thanks having me on, Doug.
You know, I think with that with that piece last week,

(16:14):
I never I never expected the response to be as
strong or as powerful as it was. But I suppose
it's like looking back, um and reading it back and
all the messages that I got from people who connected
with it in some way, whether it was like a
family number that has cancer, or somebody beat cancer themselves,
or somebody that's simply has a relationship with their parents

(16:35):
or their own child, you know over sport Um. It
really was more It wasn't an article about you know,
my dad or my family. It was more show an
article like about you, about people who can relate to it. Um.
So I think that's one reason why it was so
powerful for a lot of people um in their ability
to relate to it, because you know, it's everybody. Everybody's
going through something in some form or another, and if

(16:57):
they're not now, someday they will or at some point
in the life that they're already have um for the
compassion people showed them, the love people showed it meant
a lot to my family, and I hope for people
who you know, scroll down a road, the comments meant
a lot to meant a lot for them too. You
can fall on the ringer or or you can go
to at Kevin O'Connor NBA. I'm gonna read that story.

(17:17):
It's called the Celtics. My father and me. What'd your
dad say about last night's game? You know, it's funny.
It's like I'm not really a self expand anymore, like
as a writer now and it changed, like you know
how it is, getting into media, it changes. But like
you know, I'm like pulling for the Celtics. Obviously would
look at my dad and everything, especially now and last night.

(17:38):
Of course it's not good, especially the poor effort on
the defensive end the before from that team. You know,
you think about all these Brad Stephens teams in the
past five years or so. Never before did they let
their offense dictate their effort on the defensive end. But
this year's team, for whatever reason, when shots are not
falling on the offensive end, their defensive effort just collapses.

(18:02):
And last night I thought, um when when more he
sent out their bench unit and Bill per Lead had
showed more than any other time. Uh in quite a while.
Kevin O'Connor joining us in the doug Out the show
on Fox Sports Radio. Is Carrie the problem or the solution?
I think he's part of I mean, really, he's both.
I mean, obviously, when he's making shots, he he's what

(18:22):
energizing for their offense. But the issue is sometimes like
the intangible leadership qualities. That was a question about him
when he was with Cleveland, it was a question when
they traded for him, and and personally, I I think
it was a no brainer trade for the Celtics, and
I think Kyrie has potential to be a good leader.
He's just not grown into that. I think when he
when your best player is the player more than anybody else,

(18:45):
letting shots not falling for him influenced his defense. I
think that's at the negative tone for the rest of
the team. That's that's hard not to to follow and
adapt to. So I think Kyrie, it's really on him
more than anything else, more so than any coaching changes
that could mean by Steve, it's more so than Gordon
Hayward is still getting back from the leg injury. I
think was tire irving a lot. If you're putting the

(19:07):
blame on anybody, but mostly be on him. But ultimately,
like it's hard to say that he's not the solution
though because of a shot making ability. Yeah, he's a freak.
I mean, I my takeaway was a couple of things
watching last night. Um, I do think the Bucks continue
to be underrated, right, Like, they were the best defensive
team in the league with the best record in the league,

(19:28):
and they've played incredible defense, and they've been the best team,
the better team in three of these four games kind
of for a reason. And they're tough matchup. It's hard
to find somebody to constantly guard your honest from keep
him from the basket. And then you're like, do I help?
Do I not help? If you help, then they have
all these shooters that they space the floor with and
he's really unselfish. And then he eliminates so many mistakes
with his length and activity defensively, and he doesn't seem

(19:50):
to get tired out. Um. But I also look at
the Celtics and think, I think last year's run made
us collect actively overrate some of their individual talent. I mean, sure,
I do. I think that's possible. But even with a
guy like Jason Kadum, he's in the shooting clump now,

(20:10):
but he still has improved that the defensive player has
improved as a pastor this season. Um. But I do
think it was hard not to overrate the place that
they were at in the league. And I think what
might have been underrated is how long it would take
Gordon Hayward to get back. He looks like he can
barely jump right now. I'm not sure how much of
that is mental versus physical, but he is not close
to what he was when we lost last I have

(20:33):
healthy with the Utah Jazz during their little playoff run,
uh and then with Kyrie Irving is a return how
he would affect the mix on the offensive before when
last year with Kadam Brown and Carry Rosier, the guys
handling the ball and Marcus Swant as well. Now kyr Earling,
little bit ball, dominant presence, how that would affect everybody else?
And I have not been positive. So this Celtics team

(20:54):
moving forward, it's like you look at the box. Like
you said, they've been sort of underrated all of this,
they're looking like a new gatekeeper to the finals in
the Eastern Conference. I still need to get there, but
with the m VT and the adisance and Kupo potential,
m v P and the honest with all their their
strong supporting cast that could only improve over time. They're
looking looking like the fremidable force. Whereas with Boston it's like, well,

(21:15):
how do you how do you adjustice mix? With so
much and certainly moving forward with Kyrie ever to make
a three agent this summer, Yeah, I don't know. It's
it's it's really hard to to imagine because you there
are moving pieces. Do they go after Anthony Davis? What
what is the asking price for Anthony Davis? Uh? Do
they get an Anthony Davis and not have Kyrie? And
then what does their backcourt look like? There's so many,
so many questions. Um, do you think the series is over?

(21:39):
I don't see Boston coming back. I can still see
it going six easily, maybe even go seven. But I
have a hard time seeing how this Celtics team could
win three in a row with that set. I will
say this, it seems like every time this season, any
time Boston seems like they're done, they end up having
a good stretch. Anytime Boston is a good stretch, then

(22:00):
they just plummet and And right now, that's sort of
the part we're at in the seat in the series
where for two or three weeks this team has been
pretty good, including in the Indiana Series, and then at
the end of the regular season they were pretty good
until these last couple of games, and I think doubting
them would would be you know, a short tight in
the sense that it's been like this all year long.

(22:22):
But still Milwaukee is the better team with the best
player by far in the series. A guy in Yana
to like continues to get better hitting those pull up
threes this year um and also like in that game yesterday,
Milwaukee only shot eight of thirty seven from three, Chris
Middleton only shot four nineteam from the floor to ten
from three. Milwaukee can be even better than they were

(22:43):
yesterday's twelve point wind. They have room to improve too.
Let's go to last night, the late game where Houston
kind of survive and they're the better team, and yet
here Kevin Durant is with an open jump shot three
or four ft behind three point line, top of the key,
with a chance to tie the game. Game. Uh, steph
not great from three, but but better, I mean, a

(23:04):
much better game than he had in the you know,
the previous game in Houston. Clay Thompson still kind of
you know, absent without Lee. What's your take on why
the Golden State Warriors now are are tidy two with
the Houston Rockets. Don't they just seem like a tired
team at this point. I think the effort on the boards,

(23:25):
of the lack of effort on the board shows Sean
Livingston looks like he has hit a wall um at
his age. They lacked depth and then the starting lineup.
I do wonder how much fatigue has been a factor
for Stephan Curry. He had that injury at the end
of the last round, but in this series, Houston is
running him through screen after screen after screen, and Curry

(23:48):
is hedging or or showing on the James Harden kicking
roll to avoid switching on the play to avoid that
harder on Curry mismatch. But I do wonder how much
of that has worn out Stephan Curry and how that
may have affected his offensive production. Like he said, he
put up numbers last night, but it didn't really come
until late in the game. I do wonder how much
that has worn down Curry individually, because they seem to

(24:11):
be leaning on Katie for everything on offense more than
ever before. And then at the end of that game,
they put Durant on James Harden. Uh So, James that
Kevin Durant, it seems like he's gonna have to be
the guy to continue carrying the load of les clad
Thompson and Seth and Curry managed to turn it back
around on the offensive end. It is weird that it
took us to this point, or took many people to

(24:32):
this point to realize just how unbelievably good Kevin Durant is.
He He very well maybe the best player in the league.
Uh and he may have been the past couple of
years as well. Um, it's just been harder to tell
when he's surrounded by so many superstars. But if he were,
I that's one of the appeals for him going elsewhere
because he's improved as a password with the with the

(24:53):
Warriors over time, especially in the post. If he can
shove those skills that he gained UM in this offense
in addition to his scoring and defense, it may be
kind of clear that he's the best slayer. At some point,
Kevin O'Connor joined us from the ringer at Kevin O'Connor NBA.
Let's get to uh the the Lakers situation. Tyron Lieu

(25:14):
appears to be headed to be the head coach, and
now they want Tom Thibodeaux to become that defensive coordinator
he was back when he was with the Celtics. Look,
I think this makes sense for the Lakers. Does it
make sense for TIBs? Yeah? I think so. I think
Tibbs in the past that has been his best role. UM.
He was in that role with the Celtics and Effort,

(25:35):
and during a couple of those seasons, ty Lou was
also an assistant um for those doc Very staff. So
those guys know each other, um, they've worked together before.
And I think if you're Tom Pilloto, it's a good
way to, you know, a be a part of a
team that projects as a winner. You know, whether the
Lakers at a superstar not the summer remains to be seen.

(25:55):
But leron Jane. So for Tids, it's a way to
essentially it's like UH coaching car wash situation. UM, go
to a team, maybe help turn around their defense and
come out and get another opportunity at some point in
the future. Kevin, what do you think of Yoki? Does
he have enough in the tank for these last two
potentially three games. He doesn't look like he does what

(26:19):
he's playing like he does. UM. I think yo has
been one of the big winners of the entire post
season because he's survived on defense, and that was the
big question with him. Can he defend Damian lower and
their pick and roll? And he survived in that end,
uh showing the picking rolls and recovering to NS Cantor
or Zach Collins. I think Yokich is one defensively. Never

(26:40):
mind everything he's done on the defensive end flore He's
been magnificent passing and scoring and basically doing whatever the
game has demanded or needed from here for the Denver Nuggets.
And then you have the sixers who can be enigmatic
taken on the Raptors who are Kauai and a bunch
of guys who seem to only know how to get
the ball to Kauai. I have a tough time figuring

(27:01):
out that series right, Like Kyle Lowry does not feel
like he's good enough to get to an NBA finals.
On the other hand, Kawhi Leonard is helped me out
with six years rafters. I mean obviously with Kawhi Leonard
posting numbers that the league has not seen since Michael
Jordan's uh in this this round against the Sixers, he's
been unbelievable. I do wonder it's funny with this Toronto team.

(27:23):
They're a team that went from having the bench mob
one of the bench best benches of the league, and
now they can only get production from five or six
guys on their entire roster. It's amazing how depleted the
team has suddenly become from what it was before. But
ultimately this was going to come down to me the
health of Joeann Wimbei and his performance. He was tremendous,
just unstoppable in Game three, but looked like a subpar

(27:46):
player in Game four with the sickness that he's been
deailing within today That there's an upper respiratory infection um
so and being performers is going to turn it a lot.
But I do think that's the one guy to watch
Tonight's scheme is Tobias Harris because in Games four the
Raptors were helping off him and willingly letting him take
a lot of trees. But Harris over the last three
seasons catching the shot shooter on three pointers. So Harris

(28:11):
is somebody that's gonna need to make Toronto pay if
they're going to continue to help off him in order
to contain drives from Ben, from Joel Embiid and from
Jimmy Butler. So Harris is going to have to be
the guy tonight that steps up from Philadelphia. But yeah,
you're right, this is a confusing series. It's it's a
really like if you watched the watch the series, and
then you watch one game you're like, all right, well,
that that's how it's gonna go. Then you watch the

(28:32):
next seem like, wait, no, that's not how it's gonna go,
and then Toronto would go all season long, they very
rarely ever used their two big line up, even after
acquiring the sold mid season UM and they only played
thirty four minutes before Game four, and then the game
four those guys played twenty four minutes together played great. UH.
They were able to switch more with their size. I

(28:53):
think they provide a different look offensively as well. And
I wonder if Philly now has a counter against that
double big lineup that has a more traditional throwback look
that the Raptors were using. UM. But if it doesn't
work for them in Game five, though, then Toronto can
go back to see at before at playing power forward.
There's so many Loogle adjustments that both these teams have

(29:15):
made start the serious that that's what I'm most looking
forward to tonight have seeing what that Brown does of
a CounterPunch to what Toronto been in game. And then
you think, what we go back to Houston where Houston
is now playing p J Tucker at center, and that's
their big adjustment to Golden State. Of course, Golden State,
UH started the season with waiting for a center, get him.
Then he gets hurt and they get boged, and now

(29:35):
he can't even play in the series. Kids crazy, it's Kevin,
great stuff. Love your work and UH send your regards
to your father. I lost my dad cancer a couple
about four years ago. Um, and my heart goes out
to you. That was an incredible heartfelt peace though I
appreciate it, but it's not not a good club to
be a part of. But you have to support a
lot of people have shown in my family and a
lot of support people are showing each other as been

(29:56):
really empowering. Thanks firing me on today, Kevin O'Connor from

a report from ESPN saying that Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard

(30:18):
is seriously considering resigning with Toronto this offseason. Bucketeer's defensive
at Jason Pierre Paul could miss the entire twenty nineteen
season after fracturing his neck in a car accident last week.
This is first reported by ESPN. Bucks GM Jason Light
says Pierre Paul continues to undergo medical evaluations by the team.

But first a word from Farmers at Farmers Insurance. We
know every windshield collision has a unique sound. Beetle bird, poop,
drone seen it covered it, Dr Farmers, we are farmers

(31:41):
under written my Farmers Truck Fire Insurance Exchanges and affiliates
product unavailable in every state. Do you guys see some
of the outfits at the met Galla last night in
New York City? Tom Brady looking like well Tom Brady
at Gizell alongside just elegant, kind of America's first couple.
Right then there was Odell Beckham Jr. Um. I would
just gribe his suit as um part was a kilter

(32:04):
with the shorts felt like a kilt. Kilt meets uh
uh what that wasn't Joe Dirt. It was Ricky Vaughan
from Major League. You know we were we were sleeves
and hats at this level on right you no sleeves

(32:25):
and like, I mean, I get it there there are
some women's outfits that go over the top. So if
there's like dudes out like why we as dudes have
to wear you know, a black suit or a different
colored suit and some loafers like I'm not gonna sit
here and crush it on the other hand, it was
very much a look at me moment, right, felt he

(32:46):
felt very kind of underdressed for for the moment. I
don't know, the boots and almost like the socks were
almost stir up like because they had like a white
band around them, you know, coloring. And I guess it
does the trick, like the idea is to get us
talking about it, and we're talking about him. Then of
course he said, we're going to build the new New
England Patriots. And I was thinking to myself, the anti

(33:10):
New England Patriots, right, like the New England Patriots. They
they they've done it time and again and they've never
really talked about doing it. They put team above self.
They have with the exception obviously of something like this
with Brady, they've maintained a distance from many of the spotlights.

(33:31):
And and I would also tell that no one, you know,
no one goes into an NFL season thinking they're gonna stink,
because if you do, you are going to stink, you know.
But the lack of self awareness from Odell Beckham Jr.
Doesn't It just feel like there's a massive letdown coming

(33:52):
because they have on paper, man, they got some dudes
that you like. But we pointed out that most of
the success Baker Mayfield had was against the bottom of
the league defensively, that when he played the good teams,
is eleven touchdowns and ten receptions that he's blow five
hundred as a starting quarterback. And I get it. It's
a team that didn't win this game the year before,
but they had some talent last year, and they did

(34:15):
not play the toughest schedule, and the teams that they
beat were the bottom of the NFL. And now of
a sudden, there's going to be new challenges everybody. No
one's taking any sort of weeks off and prepping for
the Browns games. I don't know. I just I looked
at that suit. I listened to the comments, and I'm
I'm actually pro Baker as opposed to Cowherd, who seems

(34:37):
anti Baker in terms of his leadership quotion. But there's
a squill quoting at quarterback. He is a smaller quarterback,
he's not a great athlete, and none of these guys
have won anything before, even O b J. He's playing
one playoff game and that was a loss for the
the New York Giants, and they're talking about being the Patriots.
How about just getting back to where the Browns were?

(34:57):
Playoff teams all coming up next. Who's the most disappointing
player so far in the playoffs? I'll tell you next.

Doug got Lap Show has brought you by Discover Card
we treat you like you treat you. Dan what he got, Doug,

(36:03):
We've got today, alright, rank, I'm almost all NBA questions. Alright,
NBA playoffs. Doug ranked the most disappointing players so far
in the NBA's conference semifinals. Disappointing. And you've got Kyrie
Irving having some struggles. Yah ah, Ben Simmons, I would

(36:26):
say Ben Simmons is the most disappointing. Now he's the
he's the youngest of the supposed stars, but he is
He has been dreadful, can't make a free throw, hasn't
taken a Mater jump shot. Um, yeah, I would say
Ben Simmons be the most. But you want to rank,
I'm like one to three, right, yeah, just yeah, there
are three, there were three. I would say, um, Clay

(36:49):
Thompson at three. I would put Ah Jason Tatum at
two and Ben Simmons at one. Very fair, very fair.
At least you would hope Simmons would have had some
sort of an impact, but it just hasn't. Hasn't happened.
That's part of that. Kawhi Leonard dude, he's that good. Yeah. Absolutely,

(37:12):
We've got a Kauai question coming up in a little bit.
But first before that ranked the best in season acquisitions
that are currently in the NBA playoffs, because there were
there were a bunch of we know, well, we know
Kauai was off season, but there were a bunch of
in season acquisitions that played big roles. Alright, So, uh

(37:32):
is Elia Silva is at this? It was off season?
That was was that offseason? Yes, George Hill was in season.
George Hill would probably was the other one. George Hill
was awesome. He outscored the entire bench. I'll put Georgia
at three. I'll put Ennis Canter at two. Um, And
I mean some of that is just kind of need based, right,
I mean when I think he's been, he's been incredibly important. Yeah,

(37:55):
if Nurgets doesn't go down, maybe it's not as important.
Whom I missing. You've got Marcus sol You've got Austin Rivers,
Tobias Harris. Austin Vers was mid season. Yeah, because remember
let go by the Wizards. I would do I would
do Austin Rivers one that that was the other guy.
I was thinking. He made a couple of jet shots.
More than anything. He's able to guard just well enough.

(38:16):
I do think that if I'm the Golden State Warriors,
That's who I'm going after, and that's why I'm leaving,
Like I'm gonna like they've done a bad job of
make Austin Rivers beat you, and I think that's what's
coming Grength. The three likely destinations for Kawai Leonard this
offseason this on the heels of Adrian war Zanowski of ESPN,
saying that Kaua I will strongly consider resigning with Toronto

(38:40):
this offseason. Uh uh like the destination, Okay, I'll do
Toronto at three. I will do the Lakers at two,
and the Clippers at one. I actually only thought that
were about three options. I was just curious on what

(39:00):
order you would put them, Like if Toronto would jump
the Lakers because of of the dysfunction of the Purple
and Gold. But look, I I think the dysfunction, uh
does dishearten him, and the Clippers are the most likely destination.
But we've both been around this thing long enough to
realize it's still the Lakers. And Leron James gets on
a plane or he goes down the street to his

(39:22):
you know, Kauai's house, new house and says like, hey, dude,
let's do this. I do think all bets are off.
If that's a powerful hey, I'm gonna hand the franchise
to you. Um, that'd be a pretty powerful statement. I
was going to have you guys rank your favorite XFL franchises,
But do you know the names of them all? Right now?
It's just well, I know the cities, but we don't

(39:44):
know the nicknames. It's just XFL l A or XFL Houston,
XFL Dallas, XFL St. Louis. That's all that we know
right now. So instead, let's look ahead to Mother's Day.
Doug or are the best three gifts for mom on
Mother's Day? Uh? Well, Sherry's Berries has to be one, right.

(40:05):
Can we take away things that we are sponsored to
talk about? Breakfast in bed is always a good one.
That's a go to breakfast in bed. Um. You know
everyone's gonna say some sort of floral arrangement, right. No.
I also want to say that breakfast in bed is
for your wife from your kids, not like you would

(40:25):
you know your mom. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you don't want
to go to your mom's house and cooker. You don't
see your mom in bed. That's that's creepy. Um. I
would say massage. SPA Day is probably is up there
spa day again. You aren't giving your mom a massage,
You're buying for her uh Manny Petty or the number

(40:47):
one gift. My dad got this from my mom one
year true story Jane fund to workout Dave. Really, yep,
how do you think that one would not? Well, this
is game time on the Duck Godly Show. It's a racket,

(41:09):
I'll tell you this Mother's Day thing, right, total racket.
You know, they're like, I gotta get some my wife,
my mom, my mom's, my my wife's mom. Uh my
daughter was even She's like, you know, I'm the mom
to Odie the dog, and then my other daughter Graces
like I am the mom to the cat Sasha. No, no,
not even a little bit, not even a little bit,

(41:31):
Cherry's very s number one gift. Are We set it
time and again that the Celtics are incredibly talented. But
it's really interesting here. They occupy the same space as
arguably or maybe inarguably the greatest professional sports franchise currently
in sports right and it feels like on one end

(41:56):
of the spectrum you have the Celtics. On the other
end of the spectrum, you have the Patriots, Well compare
and contrast the two and tell you why they're dissimilar.

I hope you're having a great day. M m m
m m. Good sports on TV last night went it?
You know it's good sports on TV when you completely
forget about anything else, Like my house burned down, my

(42:40):
kids didn't go to sleep. My wife came in and
I feel for you if you're on the East coast.
On the West coast, it was about it was about
nine o'clock when that game finished up. The second game
finished ups about nine o'clock, six thirty start times. She's like, Wow,
it's a lot better here locally, But imagine you're on
the East coast. You're a huge ball fan, and you'll
I gotta stay up for the fourth quarter and it's

(43:01):
midnight when that sucker is over. Now, I used to
like that. I used to like that, and my logic
mind liking it was everyone went to sleep at thirty
nine in my house when I lived in Connecticut, and
now I got the whole house to myself. I could
cook whatever I wanted. I could no one's bothering me
or asking me, like whereas last night? But I was like,
are you're just gonna sit there like I gotta get

(43:22):
the kids to bed? You could record it? I was like,
I definitely could record it. You know I'm not gonna
do I'm not gonna record it, or I'm gonna record it,
but I'm not gonna watch it well later, like I
don't want to find out at nine thirty what happened
at nine o'clock. I'm sorry I didn't say that. That's
not a completely reasonable and logical ask of a husband.

(43:46):
But the other thought is, and ramost you tell me
if I'm way off on this one. My kids are
thirteen and ten to thirteen year olds and a ten
year old, like, they're at the age now you go
like go to bed, and they can go up and
go to bed. They don't necessarily do it, but they're
supposed to go and do it. Sarah does that. I
agree with you. She's thirteen, Lucas, that's another story. Man,

(44:09):
that's seven year old. It sees what's the seven is different?
Seven is different but like ten year old. And he's
the one sitting there like, hey, if dad gets to
watch the game, why can't. I was like, because I'm
forty No, no, and he's like, and because you gotta read. Dude.
He actually got a little bit of a bad report
from school yesterday. It does not happen often, and so

(44:32):
he's it's funny, like, here's that how you how you
how you punish my kid is no friends, Nope, no
play dates, none of that stuff this this week or
this weekend. So funny like that's really that's what it
makes his day go. Can I go over a buddy's house? Like? Noope,
you gotta do your reading. Oh man. The Doug Gotli

(44:55):
Show is brought to you by Farmers and farmers we've
seen almost everything, so we know how to cover almost anything.
When it's game time, have an experienced player help you
stay ahead of the game. Put their experience in the
plant farmers dot com. We we like to think that
cities are alike, right, Like all l A teams are,
like all Boston teams are, like all Pittsburgh teams are

(45:17):
like Pittsburgh teams at least have the same colors, all right,
they all have the black and yellow, all Dallas teams.
But you take the Boston Celtics, arguably the most franchise,
most successful franchise in the history of the sport, I
would probably go Lakers. Um, I know they they they're

(45:38):
separated by one title. The difference is that while the
Celtics had the most dominant singular generation of a franchise
in the NBA history, the Lakers have had dominant runs
in the seventies, good in the seventies, dominance in the eighties, nineties,
two thousands, and look, it's been a hard years here

(46:00):
before that, and you know, uh in in the early
two thousand's, whereas Boston, you know, you got one NBA
title since Larry Bird retired. But nonetheless, if you say
second most successful, and then you look at the New
England Patriots, who are really the polar opposite. They've had

(46:23):
an incredibly dominant run here over the last twenty years.
And you'd like to think they're the same. Well, they
both built around defense, and they're both built with brilliant
head coaches. But there's nothing similar about these two franchises
at all other than the regional space that they occupy. Yesterday,

(46:48):
Kyrie Irving, after shooting just seven of twenty two from
the floor, he went on a long and winding answer
and like, look when we can text you lies it
With all that he said, it wasn't that bad, but
it also wasn't exactly that good. You know. He goes

(47:11):
on and says, hey, I should have taken thirty shots.
You're like, what now, I'll point out to you, I
get what he is saying, is like the essence of
what he was saying is it has nothing to do
with the number of shots. We didn't lose because the
number of shots I took. You know, Like what Kyrie Irving,

(47:34):
who was a very bright guy and a freak in
with with the basketball, should be saying is Hey, whether
it's twenty two or thirty, it's got to be the
right shots. I gotta be willing to take him and
make them. But I gotta take the right shots and
make the right reads in the right place. I'm not
always doing it, but you know, it's a it's a
team collective thing. Like I could take thirty shots, wouldn't

(47:56):
wouldn't And if I took thirty the thirty right shots
and only make ten, I'd be okay with it. That's
actually not an unreasonable statement, and that's kind of what
he said. But the problem is they have a superstar
who does not appear to be fully invested in staying
in the city. Regardless of what he's saying. You have

(48:21):
other players who we've wildly overrated before they've actually done
anything in the NBA. Jason Tatum versus for example, like
we conflate the argument of did they win the Jason
Tatum Marquel Folds trade, and you could make the argument
that Tatum was the second or third best player in

(48:41):
that entire draft. Of course he went third, and Donovan
Mitchell has to be the best player in that draft
as a to this date. But you can say, hey,
we got a great player and he's going to be
really good and point out that he's not nearly as
good as his reputation that got a little bit of
ahead of him. I mean, look, Terry Rosier, scary Terry

(49:05):
came in as a backup last year and gave them
some outstanding performances. He has not performed at that level
this year. He has gotten back to back up Terry
Rosier probably not a starter in the NBA. Gordon Hayward
a contract that at the time was celebrated because he
was the free agency gem going back two years ago,

(49:27):
but then, of course the injury and now he's playing
on minutes he probably doesn't deserve, and they're just hoping
that just one game of the old Gordon Hayward will
re emerge. Like the most patriot like guy is Al Horford,
to be honest, a guy who just does what he's
supposed to do and gets more out of his actual

(49:47):
ability than he should. He's tough, he's smart, and he
continues to evolve as a three point shooter a very
good passer, but there's limitations to his talent, which is
a lot like many of the New England Patriots. Brad's
not tersed with the media the way that Belichick is.
But Belichick does seem to relate a little bit better

(50:10):
to the common NFL player than Brad Stevens does the
common NBA player. I know, we want the Celtics and
the Patriots to be run similarly, to look the same,
to feel the same, like, oh those Boston teams they
all but they're not and Yeah, the Houston Rockets and
the Houston Astros have continuously come up short in the playoffs,

(50:34):
and and and maybe the innovative way in which the
Rockets have decided to embrace analytics for the most part
is the way in which the which the the Astros
have already obviously decided to embrace. And maybe the Texans,
who have led us down time and again in the playoffs,
maybe that's trying to use Deshaun Watson's unique skill set.

(50:57):
Maybe that's their kind of New Age way if they king.
But this idea that all Boston teams, all Houston teams,
all Chicago teams, all l A teams, you just take
those two teams. Celtics want to be the Patriots. They're
just not because the Patriots wouldn't be answering questions about
how many attempts they instead of we're on in Milwaukee.

(51:22):
There is a brilliance and a genius to doing it,
to walking the walk and not talking to talk the
whole The Kyrie thing is fascinating because I do think
that he's a freaked talent. He's a top five top
ten NBA talent. He's not the top five, top ten
NBA leader but his top five top ten NBA talent.

(51:43):
I don't think the rest of their team is that talented.
I just don't. I mean, Jason Tatum could be a
very good player, could eventually become an All Star, maybe
maybe a star player who knows, maybe a superstar, But
like we freaked out seeing him in a small sample

(52:03):
size last year, and now that people have a book
on him, they attack him defensively. He's not making as
many shots, are making the right plays, and he seems
to have he seems to have tapered off. Some of
that is the ball dominance of Kyrie Irving. And look,
I like Jaylen Rose. I think he does a really
good job. But but he made it out like they

(52:24):
used to play like the Golden State Warriors, paced in
space Like no, they didn't. Who's ever been the lead
guard for this team has gotten the opportunities that Kyrie
Irving is getting. Isaiah Thomas got them two years ago.
The East has gotten much much better, and the Celtics
have not matched the rise of talent of the other

(52:45):
teams period, and they like the cohesion of the team
they're playing against. Jayson Tatum average fourteen points a game,
fourteen points a game in the regular season. Last year
in the postseason he played nineteen games. He averaged eighteen
and a half points per game, which for a rookie

(53:07):
was outstanding. We made him into the next Kevin Durant,
the next Michael Jordan's instead of understanding Hey, much like
in football, rookie quarterbacks come around for their second year
and everybody has a book on him. People have a
book on on Jayson Tatum. Oh, he worked out with

(53:29):
Kobe Bryant the off season once in front of television cameras.
That does not a career make. So some of it's
about opportunity, some about it's about the difficulty in playing
with Kyrie. Some of it's also about the opponent, like
this is what Milwaukee does. Milwaukee is a really well
built team, a really well coached team that over eighty

(53:51):
two games, played better defense than any other team in
the NBA. So it shouldn't surprise us that through four
games is they've played better defense and frustrated the Boston
Celtics three of those four times. Bill Plashki, from the

I was watching The mother Ship and uh, Max Kellerman said, Hey,
I think Kauai is actually a better you know, pressure player,
clutch player than Kobe Bryant and NBA Twitter he said that, yes,
he said he did. He said that, Oh my god,

(56:47):
it's not even close. And I thought you had You
just made an interesting point. Kobe is more beloved since
he retired. He's more beloved this year. His popularity with
with Lebron, and I can see how it happened. Laker
fans are watching Lebron on and and every time he
you know, he didn't play defense, or he begged out
of a game, or he you know, he said he
couldn't carry him to the playoffs. They were minded how

The league is so different, right, There's there's less big
guys in the lane than there ever used to be. Uh,

(57:31):
you know, the offense can get away with a whole
lot more in terms of pushoffs and and creating space
for themselves. But it is interesting, like you say, if
he had he picked out almost any other player, like
you can't pick Jordan, you can't go at, and Kobe
you can't go at even though no one would think,
no one thinks Kobe is Jordan's. Those are the two
guys that are untouchable in the social media age. Well yeah,

(57:53):
well Coby is not even a top ten player overall.
I don't think. I got an argument the other day
with some young fellas, young kids, and they're like, cold,
Kobe is the top three player all time. He's not
even the top ten, is he? But he's But still though,
I think what we've seen is his clutch and the
way he carried the teams on his back and wait,
his whole his whole mamba mentality. That's what resonates with

(58:14):
people today. Yeah, except for like, look, you and I
lived it, and I lived it, Like look I I
respected Kelby Bryant respect Keobe Bryant know him a little
bit as a guy, and I actually respect like he
has that he does have that same kind of killer
instinct in the professional off the court and the professionals
in now, right, like he wants to win Grammy's Awards

(58:36):
and sell books and all this stuff. Right, he takes
the same He's the same dude. But like, let's be honest,
Shack was the Shack was the dominant player. And there's
no question. Oh, there's no I was telling these kids,
Shafts the top ten player to me, and they're like, no, way,
he's the Shock's a funny man, He's a jokester people.
It's funny how the careers, you know, how the post
career lives have defined them. Yeah, you're right, Shack was

(58:57):
by far. He won three straight finals every peace and
he married that team. Now that now, the Kobe fans
will tell you, and I think Kobe's guys will tell you, like, hey, look,
if you actually go back and watch in the Western
Conference playoffs, Kobe would carry them and in the finals,
there's nobody who can match up with Shack. That that
that'd be that that'd be their their argument. You lived in.
You were at those games regard. Let's not get caught

(59:18):
up in Kobe shack. Bill Platsky joined us l A Times,
Fox Sports Radio. Tyler seems destined to be the next
head coach. But you hear that Monty Williams could have
had the job had he wanted the job. That's not
what I hear. Now, that's not my sources. And they're
pretty they've been good ones all all through this. I
mean they've told me I've been right on is that? No?
They you know, three buses and two rambuses and the

(59:42):
whole crew flew out the interview money, but they were
always going with ty I think if Money thought he
had a chance of the Laker job, as bad as
it is, and as much as we like to make
fun of it, as much as I make fun of it,
he would have taken it in the heartbeat over the
Phoenix job. He still would have known the Lakers they
were hiring Tyle Louis for the moment Tyler got fired
last October. I mean, let's don't kid yourselves. They're all

(01:00:03):
in on Lebron. I wish it wasn't so, I see,
I understand why it has to be so, but they've
realized they got maybe one maybe two more years tops
with this guy. If they're gonna be they're gonna try to.
They've already give him the keys, they give him everything
else he wants. Why not give him his coach and
see how it plays out. That's what they decided to do. No,
I don't think Money And it's fun to say that
and speculate that and say all the liquors are worst

(01:00:24):
franchise in Phoenix. To my sources have told me that
down in fact, like like as recently. It's like last Wednesday,
they said, you know what, they decided on tie even
before Money made his decision. Uh okay, So what do
you think of the higher Well, I don't think he's
the he's not the he's not the best coach out there.

(01:00:44):
But he's the Lakers painting himself into a corner. I mean,
he's the only he's the only choice that he's only choice,
say could do. If they want to try to get
anything out of Lebron, they gotta take this guy. They
pretty much sold their soul when they signed Lebron. So
this is following what they have to do, and they're
trying to savage the next two years. Do I think
it's a I wish they would have looked more for

(01:01:05):
different coaches, but I look wish they'd cast a wider net. Yes,
they didn't cast that net at all. To be honest
with you, UM so I guess I guess I'm saying
is that, No, he's not the best coach, he's not
the greatest coach, he's not may not even be a
great coach, but he's the only coach they could take
at this point. They paid themselves into a corner, which
is terrible, and I don't think they realized they were
doing it, but they did, and now they're stuck. If

(01:01:27):
Thibodeau comes as a defensive coordinator, does that Does that
make it a more likable higher Yes? And I think
I've never heard heard the name Frank Loco mentioned need
both as well. I have not heard either for my sources.
But that doesn't mean it's not true on this case.
Um yes, I think it does. I think it gives
a non you need any kind of non Lebron thing,
And let's face it, don't you need a non Lebron

(01:01:50):
factor in the area to help get free agents. That's
that's kind of the conundrum they're in, right, It's that
the guy who's best for Lebron tells the world we
are this is a Lebron team. These these are the
Lebron Lakers. Who wants to play for them? Who? What? What?
Fregon wants to go play for the team. That that's
that's not only coach didn't run and everything by Lebron.
So yeah, any kind of anti any kind of Lebron

(01:02:13):
complimentary piece would be helpful. But I still think I
still think they're in big trouble here with free agents.
I mean, I think money Williams Myam might have been
a better choice for free agents. But again Lebron would
have whispered and backstabbed and gotten fired after three or
three or four months, So that wouldn't have worked. You
know how that works. So so so what do they
go do? Well? Who do they go get? Well, they

(01:02:35):
try to get They're not getting Durant, they're not getting Kauaie,
they're not getting Clay, they're not getting Kyrie. I guess
their best bet, their best bet is for Ty to
try to make up with Kyrie and Lebron to get
it with Kyrie and try to I don't me had
a terrible series right now, but he could still Hell
he did, and Bron won the championship together, try it again.
That's really the best, Maybe, Jimmy. I don't think Jimmy

(01:02:57):
Butler changes a game. I don't think he's a game changer.
And I've heard there's no way Gayle Benson is going
to trade them Anthony Davis. There's just no way she's
gonna do it. So you know, I think they gamble on.
They go to Kyrie and beg him to come back,
to come back and play with those two and get
the old gang back together again. I think that's the
only options, the only choice. And if that doesn't work

(01:03:18):
during for another long year and they've waited under your
Lebron's career, this is a huge summer, and to me,
it doesn't look good. I mean, what do you think.
Do you think Kyrie? You you're you know, you know you're.
I do not think Kyrie comes. I don't I don't
think from the people I've I've been told that Kyrie
just did not like all the other stuff. He didn't
mind playing with he didn't mind playing uh with him,

(01:03:39):
but it was just all the other stuff, all their stuff,
And maybe maybe his opinion changes because of what he's
gone through in Boston that that's the only other possibility. Well,
that's well, that's in and all the other stuff. That's
a real and legitimate concern because I've all lived this
year with their body and it's a nightmare with Lebron.
I mean, it's it's such a it's such a circus.
But yeah, I don't think they're I don't know what
you think, but from what I'm hearing, I'm not hearing

(01:04:01):
anything positive about of anybody's camp to come here. And
I don't blame him. I not, frankly, don't blame him.
Bill Platsky joining us from La Times. Doug gotlip show
here on Fox Sports Radio. What about the Clay Thompson thing,
It doesn't that of all the things that signifies something's
amiss with the Lakers. His dad played for the Lakers.

(01:04:22):
His dad's the color analyst for the Lakers. He's a
free agent, a shooter you would think would play great
off of Lebron. And even when you hear that there's
a possibility he would leave if you would leave, it
be for the Clippers, doesn't that say at all? Well,
I would say that except He's been saying that that
he wouldn't leave for two years, even before all this

(01:04:43):
Lebron nightmare became became real. I think he wants to
get away from his daddy. He wants to be his
own man, and his dad just kind of a big shadow.
And you're I know, he's just just quote unquote just
the announcer, but that's a big deal there, and his
dad's very tired of the organization, you know. I think
he wants to continue to forge his own path. I
think he'd like to go Quinn. I mean, this is
what I hear. So I don't think that's necessarily an

(01:05:04):
indictment of but I think it's a huge indictment that
Kauai want to consider coming here, and that dur Aunt
won't consider coming here. I think those are both big
indictments of how the operations a run here. I do too.
I'm I'm completely with you. I mean, imagine this so
players or would rather go to the Knicks, which to

(01:05:24):
me is the most irrelevant, you know, an achronistic organization
and all professional sports. They haven't been good for forty years.
They're a terrible mess, and they'd rather go there than
come to the Lakers imagine that. Yeah, yeah, I know
it's bad. If I'm telling you, Genie Buss has really
created a storm here that I don't know. I don't
see clearing up anytime soon. Yeah. People thought the Jim

(01:05:47):
Buss was was the was the reason they were bad,
and then Genie took over and it's been worse. Good argument.
That's a good argument you're making, Doug there. And I've
said this before, probably on this show. Everybody else's Amazon
and the Lakers are a mom and pop grocery store
and they're going out of business. I mean, their business
is good right now, but it's gonna suffer if they
have another another non playoff here. And I just I
just don't see a change. And I don't see Pylou

(01:06:09):
changing the fabric of that as what either. But I
don't see the Lakers. They felt like they had no choice.
They have to keep Lebron happy. I just wish Lebron
cared as much about making them happy as they do
about they're making him happy. Bill Plash is a calumnist
and a talented one for the l A Times. Listen
to him here on Fox Sports Radio Sundays at nine
am Eastern Time. Six am Pacific time, alongside the talented

(01:06:30):
Mike harmon Um. What's your level of faith that the
Warriors still beat the Houston Rockets and win the series? None.
I think the Rockets are gonna win the series. Something's
wrong with Steph Curry. I know everybody. Everybody says, nobody
ever says Steph just stinks. It's always always got the finger,
he's got an ankle. I think he just stinks right now.
And uh, and Durant's getting tired. They're weighing on him.

(01:06:53):
I don't think Houston, you know, I don't think he's
any barren. They were last year, but they're all healthy.
I don't know what you think, but I think the
Rockets have them a min him in this series. And
I think Durant's like a one man team out there,
and uh, you know he needs help. Well, I look,
I I generally agree that that he needs help. We
haven't seen a Clay Thompson game and there and then
there usually is one. I agree with you on staff.

(01:07:16):
I'm not going with that he's not healthy. Did he
dislocate a finger? Sure, but this is just this is
playoffs stuff, and that he's can be inconsistent because they
go at him defensively so much. They wear him down
there physical with him. They get away with stuff defensively
they can't get away within the regular season. But usually
he figures it out. It just takes him while to
figure it out. All right, Well, let me ask you this.

(01:07:36):
Do you think there's any truth to this thought that
Curry has really been in the tank since Durant said,
I'm Kevin Durant, y'all know who I am. Since Durant
took over, Curry just has not been able to play
in that in that ecosystem that Durants creative for stuff
out there. I think there's any truth to that. No,
I mean, do I think he's more comfortable at times
playing with the ball in his hands? More sure? But

(01:07:58):
I think if you watched, I think there are times
in which k D lets him, you know, do his thing,
and sometimes he does his own thing. I don't. I don't.
I don't personally think so. Look, I just think they're
loading up on the They're they're everywhere Clay Thompson goes,
and they're they're doing the smart thing. Make Draymond Green
and Andre Goodalla beatcha and two times they've done so
and two times they have not. You know, I'm glad

(01:08:19):
you're not buying the step is hurt thing, because that's
what everybody. Everybody loves this guy so much. It's never
well he's getting beat or is and he's worn down.
It's always have to be the world makes so many
uses for this guy. Yes, this Durant having that kind
of series, he'd be killed this of course. Well, look,
I think I don't think he was terrible last night.
I thought I thought that the night before he that

(01:08:42):
was you know, he missed a couple of layups and yeah,
he's missing shots that he normally you'd think he normally
makes something. Also, by the way, is he's such a
good shooter that we're more surprised when he misses than
when he makes it. But he missed the other night,
he missed of his shots. He shottent on uncontested shots.
He missed seven shots in the restricted area. That's a

(01:09:04):
career high for him. Yeah, no, no, no, I mean
you know he'd get beat up playing defense. I mean,
like just like you said, but he's not the same
player that we thought he that that he that he
has man, not not even close. Bil, great stuff, Thanks
so much for joining us. Look forward to catching up
in person and hearing your show on Sunday. Thanks, thanks,
pleasures mind great Bill Plaski joining us town to del
A Times columnists. You can hear him Sunday mornings on

(01:09:25):
Fox Sport Tradio. Dan Buyer has his own show on
Sundays and Fox s Floor Tradio. Yeah, he used to
team up with Mike Harmon. Now Bill is teaming up
with Mike Harmon in the mornings, and I'm in the
afternoon five o'clock Eastern Time with Nick bah I like,
I like five five Eastern time is a pretty money
time slot. Oh. We bet some great action for the
last couple of months, whether it be March Madness, NBA playoffs,

(01:09:48):
Gronk even retired Smack Dab in the middle of our show.
So a lot going on. Yeah, it's a good time
to be on and in my opinion, two good listens.
You can listen to Mike and Bill in the morning
and then myself and Nick in the afternoon, the whole
Fox Sports Radio line up. It's Major League Baseball, so
it's still going on. It is just not right now, Okay,

(01:10:08):
I'm just checking. It does seem like news from your
Angels though, what happened d h tonight against the Tigers
and batting third in the Angels line up, returning from
Tommy John surgery in late September. Of course, can't pitch,
but he can hit and he'll try to do so
tonight against the Tigers. One other note, and if we're

(01:10:29):
gonna have hit, we're gonna give equal time to the
Southern California teams, the l A Area teams. Cody Bellinger
now only going to be an outfielder. They're not gonna
pla him at first base to try to keep that
separated shoulder intact. They don't want him diving for shots
down the line when the Dodgers bullpen give them up

(01:10:51):
late games, Right, John, couldn't you hurt your shoulder in
the outfield just like there's a wall there? Yeah, that's
that's actually I thought as well. It was like a
ground you could dive on for it. Maybe they're just like, hey,
just play it safe, don't give up any you know,
doubles or triples. Just let it drop if you can,
and so be it. But that's news from the Dodgers,

(01:11:14):
news from the pitch as well. Liverpool, Yes, Liverpool and
Barcelona did not make John's four TVs in his studios.
But that SUPs. We're supposed to call me cool. So
what is is it liver or do we call it's
called Liverpool. We should just call it liver. But Liverpool
Barcelona right now on agre get tied up at three

(01:11:35):
apiece in the seventy five minute. It's the second leg
of their Champions League semifinal. As Liverpool leaves it leads
at three nil in that second league leg, but on
aggregate right now tied up at three apiece. We'll keep
you updated in that match. Sixers and Raptors eight o'clock
Eastern time. Tonight, series tied up at two. Blazers and
Nuggets ten thirty Eastern time. That series tied up at two.
Game seven Stars and Blues on the ice eight o'clock

(01:11:57):
Eastern time in St. Louis and country House won't run
in the pre is the first time the derby winner
won't do so since so the real derby winner and
country House, the actual derby winner, neither will run in
the Preakness. Yes it's not called the Weakness Stakes. Yes
there it is. Hairhead is We'll be back to the

(01:12:17):
Dug Gottlie Show in ten seconds. I'm gonna pull like
a Stanza and leave on a high note. But first
a word from farmers. At Farmers Insurance, we know every
windshield collision has a unique sound. Beetle bird poop drone.
I've seen it, covered it, dr Farmers are farmers under written?
My farmers took fire insurance exchanges that affiliates products not

(01:12:37):
available every state. So where where is this matches? Uh?
Barcelona Liverpool matches in in Barcelona Liverpool in Liverpool is
in England? Yes, because if Barcelona would score a road goal,
like if they were to score a goal that it
would be tied. The road goal advances, which is neither
teams scored a road goal yet. So wait, that actually
is how it works on aggregate? Yes, it's like special goal. Correct,

(01:13:02):
that's how you decide it really? Huh? Okay, Um, you
learned something new every day. So if Barcelona would score,
it would be three one, but on aggregate for three
Liverpool would then have to score twice to win on
aggregate because Barcelona would have the road goal. Um okay, yeah, yeah,

(01:13:23):
I got it, I got it. I just I'm looking
at what the what the fans are wearing, and what
the coaches are wearing. Sorry nut coach. They're managers, right,
that's what they're called. Uh anyway, And it looks really cold,
but I guess it's May in England. Is it ever
warm in England? Summer? Sort of? I feel like all
of England's like San Francisco, where like, what is that

(01:13:45):
the coldest winner I remember is the summers I spent
in San Francisco. That's what it all. It feels like
to me. Um, it just is. And then they have
that random studio show, don't they where they have like
Steve Nash is like an analyst. Yes, it's on t NT, yes,
which is what this is on him. I'm watching this
on TNT currently. That's that's an interesting That's like a
I haven't seen a career switch like that since Brad Doherty,

(01:14:08):
who used to do remember he used to be a
NASCAR analyst. When when you an NBA all started like yeah,
now I'm a Now I'm a NASCAR I thought he
didn't he own like a truck team or a truck
racing team. Right. He was really into it. He was
super into it. But there's a difference being super into it,
and being an analyst, I guess I would think, but no,
he was into it. Um. I think Fox is having

(01:14:28):
Joe Montana to the World Series this year. He liked
he liked the San Francisco John. He went to a
San Francisco Giants game one, so they put him on
the game. Joe Buck John smalt Anta. Thanks Stave. Will
keep an eye on that our situation. Speaking of San Francisco,
do you see the story. This is Richard Sherman on

(01:14:50):
Nick Bosa's social media issues. Look, I told you I
tweeted this. I gotta go back and find that tweet.
There is a goal? Is that a Is that a
road goal? There home? It would be a home goal.
So Liverpool would be up for three I believe, yes,
for for nil in the game for three on aggregate.

(01:15:10):
That is correct of the seventy ninth minute. All right,
So um, anyway, I tweeted this out. This is like
going back a year ago during the NFL draft, and
I don't know what. I don't care what a nineteen
year old or an eighteen year old or seventeen year
old tweets. You know, it's it is that it can

(01:15:31):
be a scary snapshot into what a high school kid
or a middle school kid might actually think or tweet. Oh,
that was a that was a great fake out. Do
you guys see what they did? All right, let me
see if I can give the verbal description of what
just took place. So, uh, Liverpool is lining up for
a corner kick, lining up for a corner kick, and
the guy who is lining up to take the corner

(01:15:52):
kick started walking away from the corner kick. So the
Barcelona guys they are talking and pointing and not hanging
any sort of attention, and then all of a sudden,
after taking five steps away, he takes a couple of
quick steps back towards the ball and crosses it right
in front of the net where his teammate is wide
open to score the goal. That was a great that's

(01:16:17):
a great fake out. Is there a name for that?
Like they caught nutmaking you in soccer when you when
you're like dribbling and you go through the other guy's legs.
Is there is there a name for faking some whole
team model. It's called the great fake out? That it is? Well,
you have like the hitting ball trick in baseball, and
you can do we we actually tried this Saturday where

(01:16:40):
my son was the picture. You gotta runner at third
base and he's leading off, and you pretend like you
throw at the third base, and the third basement dives
like you missed it. Everyde goes chasing after the ball
and then you come over and you try and tag
the guy out right, So um, that does in fact him.
It did not work for us, But I didn't know
if this, if this is normal, if this has ever

(01:17:00):
worked before in this big of big of a match,
I have never. I haven't seen something like that where
the team was completely caught off guard, like no one
was looking from Barcelona Nope, and the camera's very barely caught. All.
I give you my thoughts on Nick Bosa's social media
stuff and what Richard Sherman said about it. Plus is

(01:17:22):
Kevin Durant clutch? What do you know what Shannon Sharpe
has to say? Next, be sure to catch live editions
of The Doug dot Leap Show weekdays at noon eastern
three pm Pacific. That Farmers Insurance we know a roof
can withstand a lot, one exception being an airborne car.
Seen it covered it. Dr Farmers, we are Farmers underwritten

(01:17:46):
my Farmer's truck, fire insurance, exchanges and affiliates products unavailable
in every state. In sports of trade can make or
break your team. It's no different when it comes to
selling or trading your car. You need to make good choices.
And with True Car, you've got a star in your roster.
So when you're ready to sell or trading in your car,
checkout True Car. True cash offered not available in all areas.
So Richard Sherman said he doesn't have a problem with
Nick Boss online life. It's not like it's something where

(01:18:08):
guys are like, hey man, what about what you said? No, no,
if he can play, can play. If he can't play,
he won't be here, Sherman said to the Sacrament of
b But at the end of the day, that's all
that matters in football. Is he getting sacks on Sunday?
Is he helping our team? Is he being a good teammate?
Those are the things that matter. Now. If he's a
bad teammate, that's something will address. Uh. It's funny. It's

(01:18:35):
kind of like what we've often said about Colin Kaepernick.
A right, I mean, Colin Kaepernick lost his job at
the San Francisco forty Niners because he was seen as
a bad teammate and he wasn't a good enough player
to keep his job. That's it to be a starter
in the NFL. And I know that many of you

(01:18:59):
are led to believe that, well, he should be on
an NFL team maybe, but no one's actually that. No
one actually knows if he wants to be a backup
or if he wanted to be a backup. Now we're
we're so far past that now. Um, he went on,
when you're at Ohio State's not like Ohio States in
all white schools. So I don't think that's going to
ever be an issue in terms of race. I think

(01:19:20):
at the end of the day, your beliefs are what
your beliefs are. Look, I don't know how to tell
you this, Okay, I had to pay this. Sixty million
people voted for the president United States. He won the
election through the electoral College legally, Okay, So I understand

(01:19:44):
that must much of the vitriol that has come from
some people, and from even the president you don't like,
I don't particularly like, but the whole idea that Nick
bos is the worst guy on earth and we're somehow
because we troll old his social media from a couple
of years ago when he called Colin Kaepernick a clown.

(01:20:06):
I don't know. Colin Kaepernick was the one who was
wearing pig socks castro shirt. You know, Ton Kaepernick is
the guy who was the silent leader of a very
big movement the National Football League. Like this became a legit,
a real movement. Maybe not what he intended, but it
became a real legit thing, and he was nowhere to

(01:20:31):
lead it. But instead of getting inside the Cohn Kaepernick thing,
just the whole idea of Richard Sherman obviously because his
standing within the league is far different, and maybe he
has a wherewithal in the understanding of Hey, not everybody
thinks like I think. They just don't. In the business
of the NFL, you gotta understand your fan base does

(01:20:53):
not always agree with you politically. They just do not.
If they did, everyone would be thinking the exact same way.
And guess who would not be the President United States.
Let's catch what the Fox said and now Doug Shows
brought to you by Discover Card. We treat you like
you'd treat you every day at this time. We play

(01:21:13):
for your portion of a previous show on Fox Sports
Trading on Fox Sports Phone, we called what did the
Fox Say? This is Shannon Sharp talking about Kevin Durant
and Steph Curry missing shots at the end of last
night's game. Kevin Durant had a crack, a wide open crack. Now,
earlier this year, Jenny skip skipt gout on me. He
kept ready to the general. But they pulled thirty drillier managers,
which Claire would you won't taking a shot with the

(01:21:34):
game on the line. Thirty general managers of them said
Kevin Durant. Twenty seven percent of them said Steph Curry.
Two guys had cracks last night. Now, I don't know
if anybody knows this, and the last ten seconds of
the game and the playoff careers, Kevin Durand is two
or thirteen, that's fift step No, Kevin Durand is two thirteen, fifteen.

(01:21:56):
Steph Curry is two of nine twenty two. The guy
that finished heard Lebron saying, I told you he's irrelevant.
Your gout no, Because every time you took that poll again,
they'd all vote for Kevin Durant because they all know
it's over for Lebron. He's not the greatest player on

(01:22:16):
the planner anymore. That's so much to unpack there. Let's start, Um,
Kevin Durant did have a good look. He did miss it,
and he didn't miss it well. He missed it to
the left. I didn't think Steph Curry's look was a
super clean look right like it was a catch. There's
a guy who is right. There's a guy who his
left wasn't super clean look. But this whole idea of

(01:22:37):
cletchedness based upon the last second thirty ft or like
James Harden just missed a free throw on the very
previous two shots. Where had he made both of those
free throws, the game is over to eleven seconds ago,
they're up four games essentially over. He didn't. Are we
now going to question how clutch James Harden is. Chris Paul,

(01:22:58):
by the way, got fouled on the subs Quinn possession
and he missed one out of two free throws. Um,
I understand how this thing works where we're supposed to
judge how clutch somebody is based upon some time stamp
and and there have been and looked that was that
was a shot where Kevin Durant could have cemented himself

(01:23:20):
as the greatest player in the game, hit a big three,
then won the game and overtime, and you're like, dude,
Kevin Durant, Kevin effing Durant, he didn't do it. But
you know, you take ten shots out of a guy's
career and that's how you determine who who's clutch and
who's not clutch clutch. This is something you just feel

(01:23:40):
or you don't feel. Speaking of Kevin Durant, I think
I've nailed the difference between k D and Steph Curry.
Both great, but why k D has elevated himself. Next

When it's game time, have an experienced player I help
you stay out of the game but their experience and play.
At Farmers dot Com. I'm gonna talk Champions League soccer.
For the next two minutes, ramos start the time replace
I have to mid two oh one, four seven forty

(01:24:50):
For now, I wait till the top of the top
when it gets the two oh two, So I know
I got till two oh four. I believe I have
found the dumbest way to advance into all of sports.
This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.

(01:25:10):
The idea that we got two teams and we have
to figure out who the best is to advance the championship.
And instead of playing three games, where wait for it,
one team wins twice or three times, you have to
play the third game the other one wins once. Instead
of that, we're gonna play two games and we're gonna

(01:25:33):
decide it based upon aggregate oh or goal differential. I
know we operate in this country as if Europeans are
ahead of the curve right, a little bit smarter than us.
They don't give in to the temptation that we as
Americans do. They could have bigger cars and bigger homes

(01:25:54):
on bigger lots, and bigger meals, but that's the American way.
We are European. One minute left, one minute left. On
the other hand, they still smoke. Some don't believe in deodorant. Right,
They can't figure out euro or no euro in terms
of the money. And while they're multilingual, far more talented

(01:26:17):
and brighter and probably better educated than we are, the
fact is this, we gotta figure it out. In sports, Okay,
if you had two teams and you want to figure
out who's better, play an odd number of games, and
the team that wins more games, wait for it, moves
on to the next round. And yet somehow we nod

(01:26:38):
our heads and go like, oh, let's go on aggregate
that is dumber than college football's over time, which is
dumber than NFL football's over time. Because at least in
those stupid ways of deciding who wins a game, we
do actually have one team who's definitively better than the next.

(01:27:00):
My soccer right, two minutes exactly do you do? You
do you agree with that or disagree with that? I agree,
Ramas and I were just saying it would be as
if Rockets Warriors played a four game series. The Warriors
won three of them, but they won each No no,
no four game series they win, they go split to two,

(01:27:22):
and you'd go based upon what the final score was,
so who would move on right now? Who would move
on right now? Let me let me like, look, let
me look it up real quick. I think the Warriors
because they won the game two with they decided advantage
pretty close. Yeah, it was the final score of game three,

(01:27:42):
like all of a sudden, All of a sudden, it
would be huh. I thought it was only a five
point difference. Okay, last night was four points, and then
it was five points in overtimes. That's nine points. If
you go back to game two, the Warriors only one
by six. Oh, and they went by four, six and four,
so they would be right now, the Warriors would advance

(01:28:04):
by one point, so that one miss free throw by
Chris Paul that made it a four point game, and
then Kevin Durant would have taken that last second three
instead he would have driven to the basket and laid
it in right. That's how stupid this is. It's so stupid.
I can't even begin like, who goes like that's a
good ideas. Oh no, we could play three games and

(01:28:27):
make more money because we can fill up the stadium
and have it on but new new Now that takes
far too long and far more decisive in terms of
who actually advances to a championship game instead in a
was it three nail at the time in a three
nail ball game, which, by the way, why do we
say nail? It's nothing, all right? Why do we say pitch?
It's grass or field? In a three nail ball game?

(01:28:51):
They did the old fake U where the guy pretend
like he wasn't gonna take the corner, then took the
corner and no one was aware. For barkup Barcelona and
Liverpool moves on on aggregate. Ye, well, in their defense, Doug,
they don't play like in the same league because they're

(01:29:11):
coming from two different leagues. I know, I've played play basketball.
We've done this on your aggregate before, and they do
it in basketball too. It's stupid. I mean, they don't
play the same league, but they play each other twice,
don't they? In this Yeah, in this semifinal they can't
play three times. It is against all rules to play
three times. Where would you play it? Where would you
play game three? I don't know whoever is the best one?
Do coin to it doesn't matter, or do a neutral side,

(01:29:34):
I don't care. But that's not a definitive way of
finding out who's better because one team scored one more
goal at home than the other team. Like one team
won three nothing, the other team won for nothing. What
was really decided there? Right? Yeah, yeah, I don't think
it's the best way we did that. It's it's not

(01:29:54):
not only it's not the best way, it might be
the worst way. It is kind of a little bit
how we do the college football playoffs selections, because we
do a little bit a little bit because you start
getting teams they were all undefeated or all had one loss,
and you start going, well, this team be that team
by three touchdowns, and that team only beat this team
by two touchdowns, and this team lost to that team

(01:30:16):
which didn't play any of the other teams. But that
team that they lost to was better than this other
team that that team lost to. So we're not too
far off. No, No, listen to college football thing. I mean, look,
college football, we used to have two national champions We've
had two national championships recently, two national champions Like, how
dumb is that we're national champions now? Your co nation
chips no, their national champions as well. That's like the

(01:30:38):
person that goes like you're my best friend like that's
that's a plural. Yes, I have multiple best friends. Like, no,
that's not the way it works anyway, sorry for my rant.
All right, let me let me get to this Steph
Curry Kevin Durant thing. There's this idea that somehow I'm
gonna take a shot at Steph Curry because he doesn't

(01:30:59):
have the same doesn't have the appearance of the same
level of dominance, he be ability to take it to
the next level. And you know, look, you can question
that all you want and just throw out the stats.
We are just twenty six a game since Kevin Durant
got there. Do you average twenty six game in the playoffs?
But if we even if we hearken back, we never

(01:31:21):
hearkened forward. We only hearkened back. We hearkened back to
when the Warriors first one an NBA championship. Do you
remember that series? How many people remember that series? They
played the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Calves did not have Kevin
Love because he got hurt against the Boston's Celtics. Omber
that heard his heart his elbow Kelly olynk I think
you know, got his arm and like turned and twisted

(01:31:43):
and and Kevin Love was out, and then in Game
one Kyrie Irving was killing ends up, busting up his kneecap.
That was the injury that actually resurfaced, or the wires
that were putting his knee or what was after that
injury was was taken out last year that ended his season.
So in Game one they went to overtime, Kyrie got hurt.

(01:32:05):
But if you remember, the series wasn't as easy as
you would think it should be. One because Lebron James
is awesome, awesome, and two because Steph Curry was not
his normal level of awesome. He just wasn't and so
um somebody when it was Matthew del Vadova, he's diving

(01:32:29):
at his knees. Steph Curry is not healthy. Or maybe
the NBA Finals are just super super physical. The NBA
Playoffs are super super physical, and they go at Steph
Curry and wear him down and beat him up so
that he's not able to make the same shots, the
same past, the same plays, the same showmanship for the

(01:32:50):
life of an NBA series. That's why he hasn't been
a finals MVP through any of their three championships. That
that that I'm not arguing anything that's not a fact.
Steph Curry is the high highs and the low lows.
What happens is we do we pay attention to the

(01:33:13):
highness of the Highs and say he's the greatest ever,
and the lotus of the lows and say something's wrong
with Steph. But I've been doing this long enough to
know that for the last five years, when Steph Curry struggles,
I hear the Now it's the finger, it's been the ankle,
it's been a knee, or it's just been his body's
worn down. When I think it's possibly partially the finger,

(01:33:37):
but it's more than likely the physicality of it, the
way in which the game is officiated, and the fact
that this is who Steph Curry is in the playoffs
wild swings, up down, up down. It's why you know.
Charles Barkley used to say that teams that jump shooting
teams don't win championships. Would allowed them to win championships

(01:34:01):
was first their defense and their depth, and then when
they got Kevin Durant, because Durant, though he makes shots,
is not a shooter. He's a score He's the picture
of consistency. He's a walking bucket. And while analytics will
tell you you're better off taking a three than a two.
Kevin Durant will tell you that's fine, I'll give you
fifteen twos. So instead of Kyle Kuzman, other guys coming

(01:34:28):
at me like it's some sort of profound take, like
how many times we have to see this? Steph can
still be a great player, but the way in which
he's allowed to take over the league in the regular
season is not how you play in the postseason. The
same is true for James Harten. You don't get nearly
the same number of foul calls. The game is far

(01:34:48):
less tightly officiated. Combine that with the wear and tear
of the season, the wear and tear of the playoffs,
the wear and tear of the series, and the fact
that other teams are game playing and trying to beat
him up, be physical with him, wear him down on
a game by game basis, and you're gonna get a
guy who is incredible and looks at times mortal. Against

(01:35:12):
the Houston Rockets, Rick Buker be our guest upcoming. Next,
we'll ask him about the Warriors dropping two straight, how
big a trouble are they in. We'll ask him about
Kyrie Irving's odd comments after last night's lost to the
Milwaukee Bucks. What next for Kyrie? And we'll ask him
about the state of the l A Lakers. Oh and
I don't know if you know this. Rick Buker is

(01:35:34):
a soccer guy, played soccer at Dartmouth. I believe he'll
try and explain away how aggregate is actually a good thing.
Whereas I think advancing to a championship based upon the
fact that you scored one more goal than another team
scored in two different shutouts in different cities, it sounds
like the dumbest thing of all time. That's next. Be

come on with me a game night? What we do
every time you come on, No, I would ask you
a rock and roll question and you would you would
research it and give me answer the next week. I
do remember that, right, I asked you what the cast
Ball was and why Sharif didn't like it, and you
explained it to me that it was a club been
in New York, right, and Shariff was like the manager

(01:37:04):
of a club, and he didn't write. Uh. But of course,
now I've seen the Frankie Mercury movie, so I know
the answers to that one, to to any the Queen question,
I believe, or at least I'm gonna take the Queen
movie as law, right, right, that's always dangerous. I'm gonna
take any movie as as a documentary. Rick Bucker joining us, Buke,

(01:37:24):
I know your expertise is as a longtime NBA insider.
But I gotta ask you, you're a former soccer player.
Do you like winning and advancing on aggregate? Yeah? I
don't have a problem with it. I mean, basically, you're
just saying we're playing over the course of an eighty
minutes rather than ninety. So yeah, no, I and and
and A. They played twice though they Barca and Barcelona

(01:37:49):
and Liverpool played twice. Barcelona beat him three Now at
their place lost four nil. Unlike a little sneak attack
goal there in the seventy nine minute, Like, so that's
how we had decided champion. Why is there bothering? Why
is that bothering us? We don't do that here. If
we did, you know, let's get all jingle wissy. Now,
if we don't do it in the US, well that

(01:38:09):
it must be wrong. No, But if we it doesn't
make anything. You're trying to decide who's better, right, Yes,
over the course of two games. Why over the course
of two games? Why not three games? Right? Like if
you do if we do rock paper scissors, you know
we do best of three, best of five. We don't
do best well, I was so good with my use
of paper that I had to win that game. Okay,

(01:38:31):
so where are we playing the third match? Who cares?
It does matter because if you're playing home in a
way and or the local, whatever the location is, it
has a huge impact in the game of soccer. It
may not actually, I think it does in basketball or
can depending on the dimensions or the way the you

(01:38:51):
know what the background on the on the baskets are
or whatever. That's why you play seven rather than five
or three in basketball. But it's like like their show
in the first match in May, right, they played each
other earlier in May, that that bark A missed like
a wide. It should be an easy goal. Up three nil,
shouldn't matter, but you do. And so all of a sudden,

(01:39:13):
now you're like, oh, now you get But see, this
is the whole point, which is you don't give away
goals in this situation. You take advantage of everyone. Rather
than we're just gonna play. You know what, We're gonna
win one. We're gonna win one nil, and then let's
say we score a goal in the next one. Now
we just plu Now we just pack it in and

(01:39:33):
we don't play anymore. That this avoids that, all right,
that's that's actually your strongest argument, the idea of the nine.
I didn't know I was going to be debating this
walking year. Just it just happened, and I was like,
this is the dumbest thing ever. This is this is
a dumb that's a that is a snap reaction that's
not necessarily accurate. I think it's pretty accurid. It's I

(01:39:53):
just there's a reason that we don't Ugly American reaction
is what that is. Um, it's an edging caated sports
fan American reaction like American further further in the in
the sentence, and maybe we can talk. Okay, let's start
with let's work in chronological order of last night? Was
last night more about the Celtics of the Bucks Celtics?

(01:40:15):
This is why I look, the Bucks are better than
I gave them credit for, But the Celtics are making
it easy for the Bucks. If I see Jani Santa
to Kumpo drive one more time and plant right on
the left side of the floor and the second defender

(01:40:36):
doesn't close knowing that the spin is coming, knowing that
it's coming, I'm gonna lose my mind. How many times
does he have to do that? There's no other move
that he makes when he makes that move, And yet
every time I look, the second defender is like eight
feet away. You're not gonna be able to bother him
waving at the ball. You need to be there physically.

(01:40:57):
They did more of that in Game one. They haven't
done any of that since. Well, in fairness, you're also
when you're guarding a shooter, you're like, uh do I Yeah,
you don't have to worry about that with him. No,
But I'm saying, when you're guarding a shooter, you're the
second guy. If you're guarding Chris Midlton, you're guarding uh Elyasova.
Like I would leave brook Lopez and make him hit

(01:41:19):
make ten threes. But regardless of which, like I do,
think it's a little bit harder, you know, just you know,
just leave guys to double team them. You have to.
You have to be smart about it. No, but you
can again and this is why, and I've talked about
it a lot today where I have a lot of
questions for Brad Stevens. He calls a lot of time
outs at the at the perfect time. He's like, okay,

(01:41:41):
and what are we gonna have? And they come out
of it, and nothing's changed. Nothing's changed defensively, nothing has
changed offensively. They have the talent, and we've seen them
at times where that talent has played together, like the
Bucks are playing together right now. But that's not what
I see. I see guys taking turns, trying to win
it themselves. How is that happening at this That's what

(01:42:04):
they did last year, That's what they did the year before.
It was let's watch Isaiah Thomas and then we'll take
turns when Isaiah Thomas doesn't have That's that's actually kind
of been his offensive style. It's been his m O.
The differences, I would agree with you their defenses and
exactly and so collect and and collectively. Even then they moved,
there wasn't all Isaiah Thomas. The ball at least moved.

(01:42:25):
There was a lot of there was a lot more motion.
I don't see any of that. I see guys coming
down literally going one on three, thinking that they're going
to score themselves, especially in situations yesterday where Kyrie the genius,
the genius and basketball is down by double digits and
I'm coming down one on one, no, one on three,
and I'm going to take a difficult step back fade away.

(01:42:47):
Even if you make that in that situation, you haven't
accomplished anything. You need to get everybody involved offensively to
make them work and to make everybody feel good about
going back and playing de fense. Any chance he stays,
that's the one that I have the least feel about.
But I would say I do not expect him to stay.

(01:43:09):
I thought that there was a chance if they made
a great run and they came together, because there's a
lot of reasons for him to stay. There's more reasons
for him to stay there then there are for Kevin
Durant to stay in Golden State. But that said, they're
not making good on those reasons. And I've heard so
much about Kyrie being, um a cancer in that locker room.

(01:43:32):
I hate using that word, you know, casually, but being
a cancer in that locker room that my inclination is
the thing He's going to go someplace. Yeah, I mean,
it's a well I'm trying to think. I mean, Kyle Lowry,
I think has been hurt by the playoffs, But in
terms of Superstars, Kybrie has has really really and and
it's the things that he says in the way in
which he says I'm like, I understand you know more

(01:43:53):
about basketball, and the people that are asking you questions
we all kind of know. But you don't have to
be so kind to say no, and you don't have
to compound it by not playing like a genius. I mean,
the game that he played was not a smart You
don't have to be you don't have to be a
basketball genius. You don't have to be a basketball savant
to know that the way that he played in Game

(01:44:13):
four was not a smart way to approach that game.
We've seen guys George Hill played a more balanced, thoughtful
game than Kyrie Irving. Did Rick Buker f Bleacher Report,
joining us Doug Otlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, let's get to Rockets Warriors. Obviously, the move
of Mike D'Antoni moving p J. Tucker to center has

(01:44:35):
been an outstanding move. The offensive rebounding the tipouts from
PJ Tuck just the toughest of p J Tucker, but
also means using Austin Rivers, Right, So you get Austin Rivers,
you get the Clipper backcourt there to go with James
Harden and Eric Gordon and p J Tucker, and that's
been a problem. Let's start for me with Steph Curry.

(01:44:56):
I've operated on this premise that, look, I think steps great,
but the physicality of the playoffs is a lot for
the way in which he plays, and it's one of
the reasons that he's had some of these clunkers in
other and other NBA playoff years. I agree, but I
do believe, and I was listening to you earlier, I
do believe that the physical issues that he has or

(01:45:19):
has had in these runs are a part of his
struggles when a percent like when when we think of
the Kyrie Irving shot, or we think of Kevin Love
being able to stay in front of him if he
doesn't have a bad knee, he's going by Kevin Love.
He proved that the following year. So I I do
believe that the physical issues that he's had at the

(01:45:41):
end of the year are compromising him. And he has
to be as he's one of those guys who has
to be close to because he is six to because
he is one ninety, he's he needs to have the
ambidexterity of both hands. So a a dislocated finger, even
if it's on his non shooting hand, is still an
issue for him in his game. He needs to have
two good ankles to be able to finish going either

(01:46:04):
way and to have that zigzag to get his shot.
So I can't separate the two. But there's also in
this instance the fact that he's playing forty three minutes.
There is no bench, there are no other playmakers. Fix
the bench. They didn't. They did, They didn't fix you.
And I talked about this last year. I was like,
they gotta fix that bench because it's gonna get him beat.

(01:46:26):
And they did not. They did not really address They
went and got DeMarcus Cousins, which was like an impulse
by and I didn't think it fit who they were.
And instead, you know, like, how about getting a backup
point guard. They have Queen Cooke. They won't play him
because he's not good enough for the series or and
they weren't willing to pay Patrick McCall. Now, Patrick McCall,

(01:46:46):
you can look at the numbers, you can say he
was this or that, but he was. He played in
big games, and he gave you valuable minutes in big games.
They would love to have somebody that they could count.
You can't count on Cavan Looney or Jordan's Bell or
Quinn Cook or Alfonso McKinney, and maybe maybe McCall couldn't

(01:47:08):
get it done, but he's demonstrated that he can, so
you could at least play that card. They played their
bench forty six minutes in last night's game and still
lost to me. Last night was the gambit of Steve
Kerr saying, we gotta find a way to make this
a short series because the other one's gonna be long.
So if we can get this over in five now,

(01:47:29):
we can at least rest and I can continue to
play my my death lineup, my Hampton five. Now. They
lost and they've got to continue to play them. It's
a it's it's a matter of diminishing returns right now
for the Warriors. Yeah, it's it's gonna be fast. Let
me quickly get you to Dan Buyer get an update.
We'll come back to some Warriors discussion, maybe the Lakers discussion,
a little Rockets discussion. Damn what he got. Yeah, we

(01:47:51):
got a lot happening, especially in the Champions League. As
the day started with FC Barcelona up three mil on Liverpool.
It was the second leg of their Champions League semifinal.
Then this ended up happening. It's too Droptyna go out
on the full head. It's time, it's it's a sense sation.

(01:48:17):
They win for nil on T and T at b
R live as Liverpool grabs that second leg and then
wins four three on aggregate to advance to the Champions
League Final. Eastern Conference Semifinals gave five tonight, Sixers and
Raptors eight. Eastern series tied up at two. Blazers and
Nuggets tip at ten three Eastern. That series is tied
up at two apiece. A report from ESPN says that
Raptors forward Kawai Leonard is considering resetting with Toronto this offseason.

(01:48:42):
Former NFL linebacker and former Packers assistant Winston Moss, the
new head coach of the XFL franchise in l a
Kentucky Derby Champion country House, will not run on the Preakness.
After the horse became ill. We'll be back to the

the other Kentucky Derby winner that was the long shot
that was awarded the victory, also not going to run.

(01:49:24):
How would you like to have? Like, I'm gonna go
with the Preakness because you know, at least of the
Breakness you get to watch the Kentucky Derby winner. Right,
that's the Belmont is usually the Gamble, the Bellmont. You
don't know if you're gonna have a triple crown threat.
Usually the Preakness. You know, at least I'll have a
Kentucky Derby winner. You have neither of the top two horse.
I just need to know if Body Express is running
because Body Express was in the Kentucky Derby. Body Express

(01:49:46):
had never won a race. Well, how does that happen?
It's the Kentucky Derby. Like I thought this was the
Kreme della Creme. It's like you got a horse that's
never won a race. It's what Hall of famers Kentucky Derby.
It's what Hall of Famers think when they ce Tracy
McGrady walking in Man. You didn't win a playoffs, by
the way, By the way, not to circle back on

(01:50:08):
the soccer, but the goal that ended up being the
differential was the fact that Barcelona didn't even defend. It
was so disrespectful. They deserved to be out there. They're
faked out, they were deep. But the other thing I
saw was grew up in Cincinnati. So Cincinnati has a

(01:50:28):
an expansion MLS team. They just fired their coach. It's
eleven games into the season. You talk about being prisoners
of the moment. You're an expansion team, you just joined
the league and your coach out. Oh my goodness. Rick Buker,
soccer analyst, basketball insider for Bleach Report and Fox Sports

(01:50:50):
Doug Atli Show. You're on Fox Sports Radio. Um okay,
So now, Woach had to report yesterday that they're preparing
for a seismic change, which means Katie's gone. Are we sure? Well?
Are we sure of anything? I don't know, Like you
know that of all the teams you know in the NBA,
you know a lot of them that when you know

(01:51:11):
probably better. Yes, I will tell you this. The Warriors
are expecting him to leave. They I mean, I've been
told by people in the organization they're expecting him. Why
are all these guys Here's here's the question. I really
want to know. Why are they all so weird? Right?
Which guys? Katie's weird, Kyrie's super weird? Uh, kar Anthony
Town is very weird. Um. There's a lot of guys.

(01:51:33):
And maybe it's because they're really smart and um, and
they think they're a little smarter than they are, but
they're really they're they're pretty bright, and they have other interests.
I don't know, I just I feel like there's a
bunch of kind of weird dudes. Here's the reality. Look, James,
we like Lebron James showed up at a game buzzed
drinking wine and didn't think it was a big deal.

(01:51:56):
That's John at his age, is resident of the Lakers,
and he decided impromptu to have a press conference right
before a game and say I'm out of here without
telling anybody. That's weird. Superstars are weird. They're weird. The
differences we now get to see all of their weirdness,
thank the social media, thanks to like, they've always been weird.

(01:52:22):
They've always been Yes, yes, you know I mean there's
a certain lunacy that comes with that. Just crazy excellence
in one thing. Right. The rest of them is Kobe
Bryant is weird, dude, Like, I mean, go down the line.
I think you see me this very strong point you

(01:52:43):
made Derek really kind of impressive there. I almost feel
like it's dropped him up Mike moment. But I don't. Okay, So,
any any chance they lose Clay? No? Is he a
back Scott? Like, are you gonna well, they won't lose him,
but like if Hatie leaves or when Katie leaves the Championships,

(01:53:05):
the dynasty is over. Like that's that's done, and you
may end up this is gonna be you know what
it's gonna be. We're told. If we're told we got
a two time m v P and we got Clay
Thompson is well regarded as maybe the best catching shoot
shooter of all time. Or in that conversation, Draymond Green,

(01:53:26):
who I'm told is a Hall of Famer. I think
he's like the perfect Swiss Army knife for the way
in which they he may be, but because he was
the perfect Swiss army knife with that team. He demonstrated
on a big stage he'll get he'll be a Hall
of Fame. Okay, so you have three, you'll have you'll
still have three Hall of famers. Now Iguadala on his
last leg, Sean Livingston's washed. Um, they have no bench.

(01:53:47):
They'll have a little bit of cash base, but not
a lot, and no important draft pick, like, how do
you But shouldn't that be an? Aren't we told you've
got two superstars and another Hall of Famer? Shouldn't that
be enough? They may have three of the most unique
superstars that you could possibly have. I mean, honestly, you
just talked about Tracy McGrady being a Hall of Famer. Okay,
so there. Hall of Famers come in different packages. But

(01:54:08):
when you have three on one team? Yeah, but how
much is that? How much of that is because of
what they've collectively accomplished. Agree, it's the reason why I understand.
And I also think that the league. One of the
things that we're learning is the league was catching up
to them, right, has caught up to has was catching
up to them before they went and got k D
And that Katie kept the league at Baylor. Yes, absolutely, right, absolutely, Okay,

(01:54:31):
but I don't I don't know if the common man
or the common fan thinks that, they think, you guys
don't know how good stuff is. You played through Steph
and you'll be fine. I live in the Bay Area.
They think, okay, Katie, you know what you're gonna leave.
We're good. We were champion before you got here, will
be a champion when you leave. They what was their
strengthen numbers, their depth and their versatility lost the depth

(01:54:54):
when they got KD and that well, they were losing
it already, right because bog Boget was gone. Uh, most states.
But you have guys that are there that are not
the same. Sean Livingston is not the same, Andrea Guadala
is not the same. They used to have a second
five that people said, and maybe it was a little overblown.

(01:55:15):
They set nonetheless, when they went to their bench, their
bench would often expand the lead. Now they can't even
afford to go to the Well, here's the thing people forget.
The first year they won championships, there was like thirty
something fourth quarters at Steph Curry didn't even play in right,
didn't play in right. They have to because they were

(01:55:38):
one dominant the league, and then two they had such
a good bench that they wouldn't have to put him
back in. You also, you were able to put at
all times between Bogot, Draymond Green at his defensive best,
Clay Thompson, who was still making his in the league.
You could put four excellent defenders around staff and he
could just roam. And now I'm watching the game last night.

(01:56:02):
They were attacking Clay Thompson and getting things done. They
were attacking Draymond Green and getting things The only guy
they didn't attack was Kevin Durant. That was the one
time where I'd see a matchup and they go, oh,
we gotta have something better than this. I was. I
was really impressed by by k D stepping up saying,
you know, I want to guard James Harden there at
the end of the game. Um, I thought Clay did
a little better job than you're giving him credit. But yes,

(01:56:23):
they they but he hasn't been the same. He hasn't
been the same this year as a as a defensive player.
At times he has, which brings me to the are
you really gonna max him out? Again? What is he's
He's the perfect compliment to Steph. So it's your maxing
him out or you're doing what it takes to keep
him because of what he means to your particular team.

(01:56:45):
It's the same with Draymond Green. He's not more valuable
to anybody else than he is to them. Okay, so
now now you have the Lakers. Let's assume Tylu does does? Does? Uh?
Does Tips take the assistant job? Okay? So he does?
This is my problem with this story, and I'm calling

(01:57:07):
Frank E. Solo out on this. Who is a Tips guy?
Who is a Jeff Van Gundhi Family Tree guy. You
can talk about how TIBs might get this job, that's fine,
but you have to acknowledge that it would be a
huge plus for TIBs because he was an absolute disaster
in Minnesota. Don't play this like, oh, you know what,

(01:57:31):
Lebron thinks Tims would be perfect for their team because
he could speak to the team. Yeah, you know what.
I think he's a nice compliment, just as he was
with Doc Rivers. He would be a nice compliment with Tylu.
But he would be back in his place as an
assistant coach. And here's the other part. How good was
he in coaching defense to really young players? I know

(01:57:51):
how he was with veterans in Boston. But this is
a young team that needs to learn how to play defense.
That's what he was supposed to do in Minnesota. So
let's just slow our role a little bit on. Do
you think the Lakers will be lucky enough to get
Tom Thibodeaux? And I mean no disrespect to Tom's but
it's just like the way that this is being portrayed.

(01:58:13):
And I say this because I saw it was calling
Joe Joe Varden out because he put out the thing
that Lebron James uh, you know, talked to Tylu but
but wasn't involved in the process of selecting Tyler or
assigning Tylu. And Frank said, Joey, Joe, come on through

(01:58:33):
yourself a favor. We know that he was involved. Like,
don't even advertise that, I'm saying to you, Frank, don't
advertise this deal like tips would be found gold for
the Lakers. He'd be lucky to get that job because
he needs to rehab his image real quickly. Who who
comes to the Lakers as free agents? You tell me,

(01:58:53):
I haven't heard a single name that says that's the
destination that I want, that's the place that I want
to go. Kevil Walker is probably gonna get maxed out
in Charlotte and is gonna know like Damian Lillard and
maybe a small market. I may never play for a championship,
but I'm king here, so why should I go someplace
else where? I know that I'm not He's gonna leave
you go to New York? If he was, Yes, Jimmy Butler,

(01:59:16):
I've heard, has had more conversations with Kevin Durant and
playing in New York than he has playing with Lebron
in l A. And that wasn't even on his original list.
When he was looking at big market teams, it was
Miami Clippers, Nets and Nick's. So I don't know. Does
do they find a way to convince Tobias Harris to

(01:59:37):
come down there. My expectation is not necessarily that they're
going to be able to sign some big name free agent,
but they're they're going to be able to make a
deal for a big name free agent who has a
big contract, who may have out lived his usefulness there,
but is could be valuable someplace else. If the If
the Warriors decide that Draymond Green is too expensive and

(01:59:58):
they don't want to extend him and they want to
move on. Maybe that's that that's a possibility. Or if
Chris Paul, if the if the Rockets just get nothing
done and they say we need to start over. We
can't have seventy percent of our salary cap and three
guys on three guys, maybe that's what happens. You know,
you're gonna have to look for somebody. As Don Nelson
used to say, I'm just looking for a rich man

(02:00:20):
in trouble. That's uh, that's the voice of Rick. Be
great stuff man, and especially really good with the they're
all weird. Take the dumbest finishing all of sports. I'll
tell you about it next. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Doug Dot Leap Show week days at
noon Eastern three pm Pacific. That Farmers Insurance. We know

airborne car. Seen it covered it. Dr Farmers, we are

(02:01:04):
offer not available in all areas every day. This time
to Dug gotlic show gets you comp as many stars
the day as possible. We called the Press the Press
n Buyer Doug Champions League semi finals as Liverpool trailed
three nil and turning the second leg of their match
against FC Barcelona, and then a bunch of goals happened

(02:01:26):
and it ended like this, it's too cropty to that pros.
I'm gonna get on the pool head. It's talk about
it's it's a sense winning out aggregate four three to
advance to the Champions League Final for the second straight year.

(02:01:46):
On t nty, it's over. I don't like aggregate play
a third game. Let it be decided on the pitch.
I wish an NBA announcer would be like, that's it
over Bucks Semifinals, BI Pistons, something like that. That's how
I would like them to brought. Maybe Mike Breen should

(02:02:08):
do that for the NBA Finals. Yeah, why not? Speaking
of the NBA Warriors, coach Steve Curse says he'd be
a proponent on decreasing the NBA's regular season from eighty
two games to a seventy five games schedule. Let's be honest,
the Warriors only showed up about seventy four seventy five times. Anyway,
here's my question, who's given back all the money? What

(02:02:28):
are you gonna do at the arenas and all the
people that work at the arenas? And who's giving back
the TV money that they get for all of those games? Oh? No,
one's giving back the money. Then it's not gonna happen.
Moving on, the Angels activate at show hey Otani to
be their d H and he'll be at third in
the lineup tonight against Detroit Showtime. So now two reasons

(02:02:50):
to go see the Engines bucket. Here's defensive end Jason
Pierre Paul could miss the entire season after he fractured
his neck in a car accident it last week bucks
GM Jason mind says, Pierre Paul continues to undergo medical evaluation.
Is that the least lucky guy of all time? Right,
Like fireworks blow up in his hand, then he makes

(02:03:10):
it all the way back with three fingers, and then
he gets into a car accident, misses a season dude,
stay things. Bad luck comes in three, stay away. Something
bad has happened to JPP. Some good things come in threes.
Three more Star Wars movies. According to Disney, December often
as possible that teams have been a good plan with solo. December,

(02:03:34):
December and December of will be the release dates of
those three. December six, my daughter will be in college
and I'm gonna go in shall be a freshman in college. Yeah,
so that's what we that's that's our thing. The name
of the name of the first movie has been released.
What is it? Feel it? Half? Half? Half? You don't

(02:03:59):
like Star Wars? Hi? I did when I was a kid.
I even collected the figurines and at a Darth Vader
carrying case. But that's telling us that's t M I.
John got one of those. John's got one as well. Yeah,
John has one right now on his board. Get out
there and pressed. That was the press, Who win tonight? Boys?

(02:04:20):
Make your picks, making picks, Make your picks. What you
got there? Ryan Music, I'm gonna go with the Trailblazers
and the Raptors. What about you buyer? Yeah, I'll go
with the same. I'll go with rhyme music. Uh, you
got the Blazers winning on the road. I got the
I got the two home teams winning two home teams, ramos.
I'll take Nuggets and Raptors, all right, take the home teams.
