Green Bay, Wisconsin. Got like it was supposed to be.
It's supposed to be like three inches four inches. It's
(00:50):
like an inch of snow. It wasn't much, but more
coming overnight. Whether I believe by you guys am? I right?
Is it eighty degrees in southern California today? Dan Byer
wearing a Are we going with coral or salmon? It's the
color coral or salmon.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
I think it's more of a salmon color. What's got
some navy mixed into it?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
You know, this is interesting. This is a quick little
ranch before we get to Tuesday morning quarterback in the afternoon. Right,
is that there are things that have always been good,
but they were just made the wrong way. The easiest
one is Brussels sprouts, right, because traditionally Brussels sprouts are
(01:36):
steamed steamed, Sam, did you or Jason or Dan grew
up in a household where your mom would steam Brussels sprouts?
Speaker 3 (01:48):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Okay, no, you have the admittedly have the diet of
a ten year old, so I know that's not not you, Dan,
But Sammy.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
I think we did not eat Brussels sprouts going up.
I don't think my parents the need to push that
on on their children and make us suffer through that.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Okay, food big food in the seventies. I was raised
in the seventies. Brussels sprout was big back then, A
big now.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Okay, And when they're steamed, I know they're big now,
but when they're esteamed, your whole house would smell like flatulence.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yeah, well, any vegetable is not is gross.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
But especially Brussels shirt, especially brustle flat is smell.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Now you said they're big. Now now why are they
big now?
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Because you put them in the oven, you roasted, put.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
You put or you flash fry them. In restaurants, I
think they flash fry them. Sure, sure, right, throw some
balsamic glaze on their little salt on there, like these are.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Amazing, some bacon bits or something.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Right, It's there's no difference in the vegetable. It's the
same vegetable. It's only in the way in which it's made.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
It's a presentation.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah right, it's all in. It's all in the presentation,
not in anything that's different. It's interesting. I'm watching last
night and I'm watching all those crazy Eagles fans at
the Monday night game. And when we were kids, they
would have those Kelly Green Eagles jerseys and I thought
they were the ugliest jerseys on earth. Okay, but now
(03:09):
and it's because they've widened the number. The numbers are crisper.
It's a sharper green and the and it just the
presentation is so much better. Same thing with the Broncos jerseys,
the throwback jerseys Dan Like when the Broncos were the
orange crush. They were cool, but they weren't like now
they pop and I think they've tightened some of the lines.
(03:32):
They've made the white even brighter. The orange is a
slightly different hue. It's just a cleaner, crisper look. It's
the same uniform and same helmet, just a better cut,
a cleaner better presentation. Fair, yes, fair, right, that's I
was thinking. I don't know, it's these are these are
random thoughts that they'd come to my kind of my brain.
This is the Doug Gottlieb shell. It's a Tuesday. There
(03:54):
are stories or storylines that have been missed by us
and by most of the media. Why Well, because on
a Monday, we had the college football playoff, we had
the Notre Dame complaints, we had the top line NFL games.
But I know Dan watches every game, every snap. I
(04:14):
know Jay stew and Sam do as well. I watch
as much as I can and then catch up on
Sunday nights and on Mondays. That's how we get to
Tuesday Morning quarterback in the afternoon.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
Well, Tuesday, this is Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon.
Mondays can be overwhelming. Tuesdays are getting to whatever we
didn't get to on Monday. Everyuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Dan Byer, Yes, Tuesday Morning Quarterback. First of all, I
want to say we wrote this team off earlier on
in the season and they.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Still made They didn't right back.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
They didn't right back. In fact, just to bring up
our Buffalo trip again, when Jason and I went to
the Bills Dolphins game and those great seats that Doug
got us, we wondered if it would be Mike McDaniel's
last game as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
It was not. He's still the head coach. Not only that,
he's expected to be the head coach next year, and
(05:30):
the Dolphins are actually still in the playoff picture in
the AFC. Now there's they're gonna need a lot of help.
But this was a team that we thought just needed
an absolute reset, cleaning house top to bottom, get rid
of Chris Greer, McDaniel, get rid of to get rid
of everybody. Tyreek Hill see you later. Well, Tyrek Kill
got injured. They did fire Chris Greer, but they have
(05:52):
found something. And beating teams that you're supposed to beat
is not a bad thing in the National Football League.
And it may not meeting that the Dolphins are going
towards a Super Bowl next year or the year after,
but they had something to Miami that for some reason
was not coming out early, but it's coming out now.
And the Dolphins, i feel, are a story that we're
(06:14):
not going to talk about because they're probably not going
to make the postseason and they're not going to be
at the top of the draft. But the turnaround from
where they were pretty darn good, all highlighted by the
return trip with the Bills coming to Miami and the
Dolphins destroying them a few weeks ago. They took care
of the Jets with these after Tarad Taylor was knocked
out of the game this past weekend. Dolphins are six
and seven, same with the Ravens and Chiefs, and we
(06:36):
never talked about him until now.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
It's a great point, can I I'm gonna add to it, Okay,
And I wouldn't completely write them off even for the playoffs.
Right at the Steelers, Its not like the Steeler has
been great? Right. Bengals at home? Right, Joe Burrows playing
as of now? Does he play in two weeks? I
don't know. Buccaneers again at home, winnable game, Patriots on
(06:59):
the road. But the Page may have clinched the number
one seed. They may have been playing all the Patriots
backups in that game. It's it's possible at least, so
it's not over. But here here's the point that at years.
I'm gonna put on my coaching hat for a second.
Who are the players that were on the Dolphins to
start the year who are not on the Dolphins? Now, okay,
(07:20):
the other one would they trade away Jalen Ramsey? Ah
ah huh. Are those guys seen as good or bad
culture guys?
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yeah, they're not. They're not.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
I'm just telling you, like, yeah, I'm just telling you
that I had been told, and we talked about this
a little on the on the radio, that there is
a group that the the masses in Miami, the players
were like those guys aren't about winning, aren't about winning,
and I think they kept the guys that are playing
the guys that are about winning, and whether or not
they get to the playoffs or not, they'll probably get
(07:54):
to five hundred and maybe above and hopefully maybe above
nine and eight. There is something about culture character over talent.
Gotta have some talent, but you can't do it if
you don't have character.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Sam, remember when Baker Mayfield was a trendy MVP candidate
earlier in this season. Well, the Buccaneers have lost four
the last five, and their most recent loss was the
bottoming out with a loss against the Saints. I don't
really know, just only on surface level. I know what's
(08:27):
going on with this Buccaneers team. If you guys have
further explanation, I can, yeah, Dan, tell me what's going
on with these Buccaneers, Dan, So.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
The injuries have ended up catching up with them a bit.
Mike Evans has been out since Week seven. Bucky Irving
missed a significant portion of the season, but Amecca Buca
has had an issue with drops lately. Tristan Wurf's missed
this past weekend's game against the Saints. Chris Godwin is
finally back into the fold, but he's not the Chris
Godwin of old. And their defense is not as good,
(09:00):
nearly as good. You have Videvea in the middle, but
you can throw on them all day long, and Tyler
Schuck did that this past weekend on that all day long.
It was in a rainstorm, but still the Saints converted
keith or downs in their game. Saints had no business
winning that game. They were eight and a half point underdog,
and they basically played even with the Buccaneers, who got
in their own way, couldn't convert. Four thousands were two
(09:22):
of five for ones that really mattered. Yeah, just they're
a mess right now.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
And it's uh and they have the Panthers twice, they
have the Dolphins. So you just spoke about who were
playing much better. So even getting the postseason seems like
it's kind of cloudy right now.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
And who was that guy they were missing?
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Was it this guy they meet, a big boat man,
they need him back real bad.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Well they have him back. It's he's had a case
of the drops.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
All the drop sets. Well, those Buccaneers. I remember that
there was some play that Baker made where he picked
up a first down. I forgot what game that was against.
But they have some nice wins on the resume, but
four out of five they've lost, so a little worried
about them.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Let's go to Jason Stewart.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
I'll take it. I'm here.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
The Washington Commanders have my attention today and this is
going to entail a visual. So I was able to
send you guys on the group text the picture, and
Shapiro gave me access to send a text message to
everybody who's listening right now. So you should have a
text message on your phone if you're a listener. It
(10:22):
is a picture of the predictions. Now, you know, I
hate predictions, but these are kind of fun. Dan Bayer
every single year in the studio puts a chart of
things for us to kind of predict the NFL season.
So in early September I wrote down the following that
my pick to go out on a limb, you know,
(10:42):
go on a limb, take a chance, like, have some
balls and go on a limb and predict something. My
pick was that the Commanders were not going to make
the playoffs. Now, through the prism of today, you're like, yeah,
they suck their quarterbacks. Hasn't been good. But no, no, no, no,
they were the darl of the offseason. They were. They
were the darlins. In fact, all the people that talk
(11:05):
that have NFL content on their description on their on
their Twitter handle was saying, if we redrafted the twenty
twenty four quarterback class, Jaden Daniels by far is the
number one pick in that draft, Jaden Daniels. And I
know what you're thinking, listeners as you're looking at this picture,
(11:25):
But Jayden Daniels has been injured. Yeah, no kidding. If
that wasn't the one thing that most scouts had an
issue with coming into the NFL. There are videos on
Twitter and YouTube of him getting his ass kicked at
Arizona State and LSU because he can't take hits because
he steps into the wrong hits. If only we could
(11:48):
have predicted this, well I did. They're not going to
make the playoffs. I think it's official. I think they're
mathematically eliminated. And I do want to I do want
to mention one thing I've been big on John Schneider
as Dan has a void talking about the Seahawks for
the past several weeks, my thing has been John Schneider
has been out in front of a lot of decisions.
You know, you don't want to you want to let
(12:08):
a player or a coach go a year before instead
of a year after. And he was right on Russell Wilson.
He was right on Geno Smith, he was right on
Pete Carroll. He was even right on DK Metcalf. He's like,
I have a number one, and that number one is
the best receiver in the NFL. And I will also
say this, they chose Mike McDonald over Dan quinn. They
(12:32):
could have brought back Dan quinn. They chose Mike McDonald.
And who could ever forget that? I keep forgetting, keep
keep forgetting that. Mike McDonald's gonna.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
By the way, did you guys see the updated picture
that was sent in that group text? Did you? Were
you able to get the updated picture in that one?
Speaker 5 (12:52):
And the listeners guy too, I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Yeah, yeah, it's so just an updated picture of the
standings because five spots above Jason's so those picks were
made sooner? Was me writing commanders miss playoffs and out
on a limb boom? I just yes, it is also
so I am I am in lockstep.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
I like how you guys used commander's colors kind of too,
some some red and yellow. Yes, all that looks like
my handwriting? Did I did? I put all that in
for you?
Speaker 2 (13:22):
I don't get I thought I filled one out.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
But I did for Jason Dog. Where are you dugged? Doug?
You were here like three times?
Speaker 2 (13:30):
But I was here. I was there right when you
guys had this, and it was kind of like it
was almost like you didn't want me to participate.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
That's exactly what Sam was like, We've got to figure
out a way to box Dug out of this.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Doug, you could have radioed in your your picks.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
By the way, rocket Ishmael did win the Heisman Trophy.
That's me. I'm a dope. Ti Debtmer wanted my bad
I can we can we talk about how the Raiders
are once again? And object is that? And like, look,
this would happen six coaches in six years. That's there,
six coaches in six years. This is You walk into
(14:07):
a house that used to be beautiful, right, built in
the nineteen twenties, it's got unbelievable architecture, it's got great bones,
and then somebody came in. They're like, I'm gonna fix
this bad boy up and then a year in they're like, yeah,
we don't like that contractor you know, one of his
subsistance shows. I get another one and another one, another one,
and like no rooms look the same, and why the
(14:28):
hell we hang on to Max Crosby? Like Max Crosby
is an elite football player, He's a ridiculous good, good
football player. Frock Bowers is an unbelievable football player. But
putting those two out there with what else we got
going is just I don't know, like there was over
the last twenty two years, the now Las Vegas Raiders
(14:52):
have had double digit winning seasons twice twice commitment to
excellence or excrement. They are bad and obviously the first
thing they need to do is find a quarterback. Find
a quarterback, but there's so many other holes, right, It's like, hey,
let's go fix up the kitchen, Like yeah, but what
(15:15):
about the flooring, you know, what about everything? It's what
a mess? And I understood what you were doing with
Pete Carroll, right, you took an inexperienced guy in Antonio Pierce.
Now you get a super experienced guy. But this is
a rebuild, and yeah, it's a lot to think that
(15:36):
Pete Carroll at seventy four years old, is in it
for a rebuild.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
You gotta have the bones, gotta.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Have the bones. It's Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon, Tuesday, Tuesday.
Speaker 6 (15:48):
Here, you have it, your Tuesday Morning quarterback in the
afternoon on the Don Gotlin Show, WHOA.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Stut Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. A lot like Christmas.
It is a white Christmas out here, and it's not
even Christmas in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Hope you're having a
wonderful day Christmas. The way it usually works with the
selection committee in basketball is you get, you get till Wednesday,
(16:20):
because what happens is the first four is on a Wednesday.
Now for for college football, you know, we haven't been
in here for we haven't been the situation for long.
But the first games are what a week from Saturday?
Is that right, Dan Buyer's it a week from Saturday?
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Yeah, there's a Friday night game a Saturday, three Saturday.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
So it's not starting. So I do think that with
the college Football Playoff announcement to Sunday that we're getting
close to the Okay, we're done here, but we're not
just yet. Case in point, Notre Dame is not ready
to let it go, right, Pete Bavaqua on Dan Patrick
(17:01):
and then the ACC had their response to Pete Bavaqua.
Now here's Pete Bovaqua talking about provision that protects Notre
Dame if they're ranked in the top twelve.
Speaker 7 (17:12):
People have asked me, well, you know, how come Notre
Dame gets that benefit, And it's you know, we we
have to prove it on the field more than anybody.
I mean, we still to put ourselves in that area,
that zip code of a top twelve team, but we
want to protect ourselves against like what happened this year.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
All right, Stug Gottlieb show. Here on Fox Sports, trader
Brett McMurphy works for on three Sports. He covers all
things college football. Is our college football reporter and insider.
So Brett explain to me the the MoU for Notre Dame.
Speaker 8 (17:45):
It designates that Notre Dame starting next year, if they
finish in the top twelve in the rankings, no matter
what the large situation is, no matter what automatic bids
go out, they are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
So what that means I won't break it all down,
(18:06):
but basically, What that means is you could have a
scenario where the number ten team got in as in
a large team, Notre Dame was number twelve, and the
number eleven at large team would get left out because
Notre Dame would be guaranteed a spot because they were
in the top twelve.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (18:25):
So, and they have that written protection that does that
does not exist, that did not exist this year.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Yes, it only starts next year, right right, Yes, correct,
couldn't get couldn't get under the couldn't get under the
under the under the expiration thing. Just amazing. Okay, what
is the state of the relationship between the ACC and
Notre Dame. Do we lose Brett?
Speaker 8 (18:55):
Sorry about that?
Speaker 9 (18:56):
Sorry, hotel rooms starting blaring, some the hotels on fire
or something to stay your relationship. That's a good question.
I think they're basically in a forced partnership, and both
of them there are things they like about it and
there are things that they don't like about it, But
(19:17):
at least for now, they're kind of sluck.
Speaker 8 (19:20):
Together, you know. Notre Dame j Ad kind of back
backed off a little bit where he said that you know,
this was a you know, permanent damage that they caused.
I mean, I mean permanent damage is you know the
Moighty Python and the Holy Grail. When he gets your
arm cut off in a fight, that's permanent damage. He
(19:41):
backed off of that a little bit today and said
that it's you know, they are disappointed and they're surprised U.
Basically it was two things real quick. One is they
were surprised at the ACC would basically attack them on
(20:01):
social media for the past three weeks and basically sounds
like that hurts the feelings. And then the other thing was,
and I agree with this part the committee show as
a joke, and they basically they were they were shocked
if they were minimum two spots ahead of Miami for
(20:22):
the five previous weeks until the final ranking, and then
suddenly they fall behind them.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Didn't that happen to TCU? Or was a Baylor first
year first Yeah, first year? Right?
Speaker 8 (20:35):
PCU was number three. Fourteen playoffs, pc was number three,
Baylor was number five, and TCU beat Iowa State fifty
five to three in their final game. There was not
a Big twelve title game, and in the final ranking,
(20:55):
TCU dropped from three to six because the committee then
decided to put in the head to head tiebreaker which
Baylor had beat TCU had the head, and then Ohio
State won a conference championship game and they jumped in
front of TCU and Baylor.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Yes, and then Ohio State d up winning the national
championship as maybe Wisconsin. Yeah, it's a Doug Gottlieb show.
Here's Fox Sports Radio. Beck McMurphy is our guest. Of
the coaching hires that have been made in these and
these powerful programs, what's the one that people inside the
sport like the best?
Speaker 8 (21:41):
I think I think John Somemraw. It's Florida. I think
that if Florida had not moved as quickly as they did,
oh Miss may have made a run with him, Or
if they could have put ties with kicking earlier, they
may have made a run hand. I think Auburn had
(22:01):
some interest in him. I think Eric Morris at Oklahoma State,
what he's done offensively gives the Cowboys hope that that
can translate at the Big twelve level. The thing is, like,
you know, I've probably mentioned this to you before. I'm
hesitant to say this is a home run higher this
(22:23):
is a great hire because all you have to do
is look at Scott Frost when he was hired in Nebraska,
and everybody on the face of the planet said that
was a home run higher. And on the flip side,
you had a sixty something near a coach that was
hired from an SCS school. It basically was graded at
best the C minus higher. And all mister Signetti has
done has had the biggest turnaround in the history of
(22:44):
college football the last two years. So, you know, I
think everyone's just got to play this out. You think
everybody thinks they've got a good hire, they think they're
in a good spot, but we'll see it doesn't always
work that way. Or we wouldn't be firing coaches all time.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
No, we would not. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show.
That's Brett McMurphy. He joins US. Okay, So of these
first round matchups, right, I think probably the one that's
nobody likes because Oklahoma just beat Obama, But probably the
best game is oh you and Bama. How much does
the dynamic change a couple weeks moved from the last
(23:23):
game and location changing from Tuscaloos to the.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Norman Yeah, Derek's certainly that, you know, with the two
G fives in the first round, that's certainly going to
be the most competitive game. Maybe Miami's Texas A and M.
But I don't know if people don't remember this, but
Oklahoma won the first meeting, but it was a very
deceptive game. Alabama outgained Oklahoma, they doubled Okahma's offensive output,
(23:53):
but they lost the game. They had over four hundred
yards offense. So if Alabama can continue to that offensive
best against that Oklahoma defense that is clamped down everybody
they've they've faced, and if Oklahama on which side, if
Oklahoma can find some offense, I would give the edge
to the seniors. But if Alabama can duplicate what they
(24:17):
did the first time against Oklahoma, I think they can
win this game. You know, question is Alabama doesn't look
like the same team the last few weeks in Oklahoma's defense.
You know, certainly the last two weeks against again it's
Missouri and l S. Take that with a grain of salt,
but they have they've simply just put a stranglehold on
(24:38):
those two teams.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Has there been less buzz over a Heisman trophy in
your career covering college football?
Speaker 9 (24:46):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (24:47):
No, not really. I mean, I if what's funny is
and look, I know how it works. You know, that's
just how the Aeisman is. And it's it's so crazy
how just on one or two plays not only would
have changed the outcome of the Big Ten title game.
If Ohio State would have scored on their two trips
(25:10):
inside of the five yard line, I know they didn't,
so I don't want to take away from Indiana, but look,
most times you do in those situations they did. If
they did, though Ohio State's number one seed Indiana's number two,
that's not a big deal. But I really believe Diego
Pavia would have won the Heisman. I think Mendoza's entire
(25:32):
not his campaign, but his shot to win it was
based on him either A winning the game with Indiana,
no matter how he did, if Indiana won the game,
he would be and they win at the Heisman, or
b if Ohio State won that he had some crazy
ridiculous game in a losing efforts. He did not have
a crazy ridiculous game. Indiana won the game. I think
(25:55):
he will win the Heisman comfortably. That's why he went
from the number two favorite behind Pobbya going into Saturday.
So now he's anywhere from minus nineteen hundred to minus
three thousand to win it. We can't reveal our votes,
but those two were on my ballot. But I would
(26:17):
say this, I don't think there's a player in the
country that meant more to their team. If you take
this player off their team and the team would suffer
a huge amount. I don't think there's any player that
needs more to their team than Diego Pobby.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Great stuff, Bred awesome stuff. Man. Thanks so much for
joining us. Look forward to listening to and hopefully having
you on for your coverage of the college playoffs. Appreciate
you being our guest on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (26:44):
Thanks Doug, I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
This is Doug Gottlieb Show. It is Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, Buyer,
You and I were talking about this a little bit earlier. Actually,
I was looking for the I couldn't remember who won it.
When we're talking about guys that wanted it, was Gino Tourette.
I remember when you know Touretta won. I was like,
how does Marshall falk is the best running back by
a mile? There was also a year where uh what
(27:08):
was he endominkan Sue year. I can't remember who won it.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
That oh, Sammy, no, were he finished second in voter? Yes, yes,
I'm sorry, Sandy puts you on the spot passing twenty Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Like twenty ten or twenty oh eight. Twenty ten was
Cam Newton. It was Cam Newton and Cam was they
won the national championship. Like he was pretty dominant. I
don't know if that that was the year. I think
two thousand and.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Nine mark ingram One.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
Yeah, yeah, that's it. I mean again to me, the
awards for the best college football player, and Dominican Sue
was the best player. Like he destroyed the Big twelve.
He was so good. Same thing with Marshall Falk We
was at sand New State. Gino Touretta was a quarterback
in Miami.
Speaker 8 (27:52):
Mi.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Name was just loaded and he he won it that year.
But this year, I mean, it is really really hard
to get hyped about the Heisman, and I think of
the things that the College Football Playoff has done, I
think it's damaged the Heisman.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
What does he read?
Speaker 2 (28:14):
What has he read?
Speaker 5 (28:14):
What I was asking Sam? What you mentioned you read
on the air?
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Okay, sorry, but I mean I did, yes professional here
stuggtlib show Fox portrait. So why do you think Dan
you and I have been doing this long time. We're
huge college football fans. I can't there's no one I
can wrap my like, that's the best, He's the best.
(28:41):
Why do you think it is?
Speaker 3 (28:42):
I think that this year we were struggling for storylines
coming into the season, so there's weren't players that we
knew except for arch Manning, and arch Manning was the
favorite coming into the season ended up not being even close.
I think it helps to have holdover guys, and we
(29:03):
didn't necessarily have that, you know, the defending national champion.
While Julian Saying is a Heisman finalist, he was just
there as a top possible finisher because Ohio State was
going to be good and he was going to be
the quarterback. So there's not a lot of rhyme or
reason other than that, like we're not knowing some of
these players, which I think is an issue. I thought
(29:24):
at one point, Doug that maybe it was a transfer
portal thing, but I don't think it is. I think it.
You know, Caleb Williams, I think is a perfect example
of you know, he goes and ends up winning a
Heisman at USC after his time at Oklahoma, so that
hasn't been an issue, and Baker Mayfield's transferred, those things
aren't an issue. I do think that the highs that
the College Football Playoff takes a lot of air out
(29:48):
of the conversations. But I just think that the teams,
the types of players that we have, that's the reason why.
And unfortunately, for like a guy like Diego Pavia, who
could have had a Johnny Football sort of you know,
impact on it, Vanderbilt just wasn't wasn't in the national
(30:08):
conversation long enough, Like he was a topic of conversation
throughout the year, but it wasn't like Johnny Football taking
over college football.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
It's totally fair. Pavia is that Pavi is that guy.
I did love that post I think I sent to
you guys right. If if Axe Spray was a person,
it would be Pavia. But those are the type of
guys that win the highest trophy. Only he was at Vanderbilt.
It would have been good for Vanderbilt. And what's interesting
about Mendoz is the Big Ten championship game and then
the win over Penn State, right the late heroics against
(30:39):
Penn State. Those are his signature moments. But is is
Bernana Mendoz is the best college foball player in the country.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Well, it hasn't always gone to the best, And I
think I understand your point, but that is no, he's
not right.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
Who's the best college ball player in the country.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Yeah, yes, And I don't think he's getting invited. He's
not invited to a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Is It's like what I don't know in Jeremiah Love.
I think is a great conversation piece as well, but
it didn't translate to a national.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
I do wonder college football now is covered by every network.
It used to it was ESPN, CBS had the sec right,
Fox had the pack, but outside of that there wasn't
a lot of players. Now it's on Peacock, which is
NBC that used to just be Notre Dame. Now it's
on you know, streaming platforms galore everywhere. I do wonder
(31:42):
if the proliferation of college football on all these different
networks if it hurts it because ESPN used to really
hype up the Heisman race and now they're hyping up
the teams for the playoff, and then everybody else just
kind of covers the teams that are on their air.
I'm just trying to figure it out.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
I think it's a one off and the only reason
I'll say that as I look back at the and
I'm looking at it right now. Mentioned Caleb Williams. I
think he was quite the story when he won in
twenty twenty two. We knew him, Jade and Daniels. When
he won in twenty three was kind of a stat
stuffer had felt like, and then all of a sudden
he had Michael Pennix Junior and bo Nicks finishing second
and third in that conversation, but nobody was really standing out,
(32:22):
and Jayden Daniels just had some unreal games for LSU
at the end of that. But last year I would
say that Travis Hunter and Ashton Genty were way more
conversation pieces than any of the finalists that we have now.
And the Hunter was a two way player for Colorado
that we know. Genty was at Boise State, you know,
So to have like those guys be in the mix
(32:43):
where last year I think there was more of an
intrigue about it because of Hunter and his flashiness. I
think this year is just kind of a one off.
Next year could be very exciting, depending on who does
what in college football. But I don't think that this
is a trend by any means.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
For forty years, Tyrex been helping gusbers find the right

We got a couple of news items for Jay stew
But I do gotta tell you Philip Rivers is signing
a deal with the Indianapolis Cults, being signed to their
practice squad as the forty four year old is out
of retirement.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Uh did talk about it yesterday on the air, and
I threw it out there to Tom Telesco an hour
and a half before it became news. Give you boy credit,
Give your boy credit.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Some dude named Doug the hot the hot stove is
cooking in Major League Baseball. Not only is Kyle Schwarber
heading back to the Phillies, but former Mets closer Edwin
Diaz has signed a three year deal to play for
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Happy now, Jason, No, No, I
love the sign in I love it. So here's the problem.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Yes, I know what the problem is, but go ahead.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
Pictures have a tendency to stop knowing how to close.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Games when they joined the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
The cool thing about having all that money is that
you could eat contracts of guys like Tanner Scott, who
last offseason was the closure that we signed. Edwin Diaz
is more. He's been a better closer for longer, and
I think this is a great signing. So congratulations to
Andrew Freeman.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Okay, so are you gonna bring in timmy trumpet and
play Narco every time he comes out? Are we? Are
we good with the with the with the walk up song.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
I'm fine with it. I don't go crazy about it
like most of social media, but I'm good with this.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
I feel it was a very New York thing.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
I do.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Heck yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
My question like, are you going to bring what they
did with the Mets to the with the Dodgers? We've
won three World Series? Like the last five years or
six years or whatever? On my math's a little bad.
Three and six years? Do we do this whole thing?
Speaking do if they ask you, what do you say?
Speaker 5 (36:45):
I think they do. They will don't. I don't mind
if they don't, but I'm sure they will.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Speaking of six years, it's only been six years that
Time Magazine is named an athlete of the year, going
all the way back to twenty nineteen, Asia of the
Las Vegas Aces named the Athlete of the Year today
for twenty twenty five by Time Magazine.
Speaker 5 (37:05):
Doug, I want to ask you this. I'm gonna do
what you do. I'm gonna put you on the spot
and if you aggregate all of the shows on Fox
Bush Radio in twenty twenty five, how many times has
Asia Wilson's name come up total outside of the updates?
How many times do you think all the shows, yes,
(37:26):
for the entire year?
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Twenty five?
Speaker 5 (37:28):
I said twenty five. I said nine. Dan Byer said five.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
I'm giving there are weekend shows that talk a little
bit too much, maybe WNBA.
Speaker 5 (37:39):
But this is a ridiculous award by ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
It's the second straight year a WNBA player has won it.
Speaker 5 (37:45):
Of course, and it's a make good for last year, right,
is it? Caitlin Karkwasher, Yes, it's.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
It's pure comedy, pure comedy. If I had a list
this year, she would be on the list.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
She was plus eleven hundred coming in.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
And like, honestly, if I was gonna name a women's
basketball player, it might be Paige Beckers because she was
she was so good. That's the press, all right, that's
