Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Heres in
the bonus with Doug Gottlieb.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Who what up Doug Gottlieb Show. In the Bonus Bosh
Fords Radio, iHeartRadio app So I do think that there's
(00:30):
there's a thing going around with NFL quarterbacks which is
really interesting. Jayane Daniels said, it's been a frustrating year,
disappointing year. You learn from it, you move forward. I mean,
Joe Burrow obviously said he's frustrated. That's the only way
to say you're not having any fun. And I saw
(00:51):
this quote from Joe Missoula where somebody asked him about
having more fun and he said, you know, it's just
a loaded word. All depends on what you're definite fun is.
And I think that's a great way and a true
and honest way of looking at it. I just do.
So it's great because it's like it all depends on
(01:12):
what your definition of is is. Like we're going to
talk in the pot about Joe Burrow not having any fun,
and you'll hear from Nick Wright where he doesn't. He
thinks it's about how cheap the football team is and
simply about performance. And like everybody has a different definition
of fun, but there is one definition of fun that
(01:33):
reigns supreme, and that's winning. I haven't heard anybody things
you don't hear. No one gets a second opinion on
good news, and no one says they're not having fun
when they're winning. So when I hear that Jaden Daniels
is frustrated, I he not having fun. When I hear
that Joe Burrow is not having fun, I think of
(01:54):
one of the same thing. Sure, they neither has been healthy.
Daniels has missed a bunch of time, and of course
Joe Burrow's miss a bunch time. But I also think,
if aronas to ourselves, the biggest thing holding them back
from having fun is not about just being healthy. It's
about winning games. And now they're winning games when they're playing.
Let's Get to the foxs Sit.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekday. He's at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Let's Get to the Fox Says and now every day
at this time in the Bonus podcast, play for your
previous portion of Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports one show.
Here's uh Nick Wright. Nick Wright, he said this about
Joe Burrow's comments about not having fun playing football.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
And this is a compliment to Joe Burrow, I promise
I don't believe him. I don't think it has nothing
to do with Cincinnati. Maybe there's nothing to do with
Brew alluded to the city. I think it has to do.
I think it is your point that they are that
after playing for a national championship, then being injured, then
immediately playing for a super Bowl and in a conference championship,
(02:59):
he's been in the wilderness for three years. It has
to do with the lack of playing in big time
games and the and I think deep down and being like,
and why is next year gonna be different? Like Trey's
gonna be gone? The offensive line. They haven't built it
yet since I've been here. The defense was good one year.
And here's the other thing. Joe Burrow is a big
(03:22):
time face of the league, superstar guy. He is around
enough other businesses, enough other teams, enough other organizations to
know what a good organization is correct. And when you
signal to the world, man, I am contemplating my football mortality,
(03:45):
and your organization meets that moment by forgetting to hire
someone to clean off the seats that weekend's game. That's
an embarrassment.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
I actually think Nick makes h a great point at
the end. Now, in reality, they have rebuilt the offensive
line to protect him right, and then they had injuries,
They've had breakdowns, and maybe they have him been good enough,
but it did get him to a super Bowl. The
defense has been an abject disaster for a couple of years,
for a couple of years now. And I agree with
(04:18):
him on a lot of this is optics more than
reality because and this is why you don't openly complain
or opine, because we don't know what are you unhappy about?
Are you unhappy about being hurt? Are you unhappy about
the team, the city where you live, what you do?
And I don't think it's the team and the city.
He's from Ohio, he's well compensated, he has talent around him.
(04:40):
I just think it's not fun to lose, and not
fun to always get beat up, and not fun to
always be hurt, and yet not cleaning off the seats.
It just looks terrible. Here's Colin Cowhert talking about Sam Darnold.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
This whole Sam Darnold throws too many picks. As long
as your production is high. I don't have a problem
with picks. I don't have to love them, but I'd
rather you have picks and throw the ball down the field.
What do these seven quarterbacks have in common, Josh Allen,
Sam Darnald, Dak Mahomes, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert Bownicks. They're
all in the top eleven of interceptions this year. The fewest,
(05:15):
by the way, is like Jared Goff and Matt Stafford.
But their pocket based quarterbacks that don't create anything outside
of structure. I prefer playmakers outside of structure. In fact,
Matt Stafford, the year he won the Super Bowl with
the Rams, led the NFL in interceptions and in fact,
in the Super Bowl he threw two of them and
(05:36):
still won. From nineteen ninety eight to twenty fifteen, do
you know who led the NFL in interceptions?
Speaker 5 (05:42):
Peyton Manning and he missed a year.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
I'm telling you, folks, for the last six teams that
have won a Super Bowl, the winning quarterback threw a
pick in the Super Bowl. So this Sam Donald narrative,
you can't win big with Sam Darnold. Last two years,
he leads the NFL and wins.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yeah, listen, I I like, I'm always been a Sam
Donald defender, Colin Me, Daniel Jeremiah. We've never sold our stock.
But we'd also be kidding ourselves if we didn't say
this is a gigantic game for him tomorrow night, because
he's never played well against the Rams and he has
a really good team. And last time the whole country
(06:26):
watched him, it was the playoffs and he was terrible.
Whether he was under duress or not, that doesn't actually
matter to people because it reaffirms that he's not a
good pressure quarterback. Here's Dan Patrick talking about the NBA
Cup in San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 6 (06:40):
We've been celebrating all night long. The Knicks won the Cup.
Todd's got his next gear on. The Knicks win the
Cup and they beat the Spurs. No word on the
parade in New York City and when the banner will
(07:01):
be raised. Now. I know we've joked about the Cup
most of the morning, having fun with it. But this
is what will be lost on people, I think, and
that is focusing on the Spurs because they need to
play in meaningful games. That's a very young roster, and
I think this is something that can help them later
on this season, and this is as close as they'll
(07:22):
play in meaningful games now. They did beat the Thunder
the other night, and you know that caught people's attention.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
Here.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
Now all of a sudden, you look at them and
they're not the one of these years, They're going to
be a pretty good team. They might be ahead of
schedule here, and that's what I was taking away from
this game. You're playing for something, you're playing for a cup,
but you're playing for money as well, for you know,
the guys on your team that don't make a lot
of money, and that can be impactful. The spotlight a
(07:52):
little brighter there, and maybe the Spurs pick up some
much needed experience that can help them down the road.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
I totally agree with the second part. Just so we're aware,
the Knicks have announced they're not going to raise the banner.
They're not going to have a parade, which does make
the Lakers and the Bucks look a little clownish with it,
but it is a great sign. And it also shows
Victor Webnyama as physically dominant as he was in the
first half, he was a no show in the fourth
(08:22):
quarter and he's still not really there just yet. That's
what the Fox said.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Say.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Let's find out who what's annoying Jason Stewart.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
And now it's your annoying, hey, Doug. Fernando, Fernando Mendoza
not like not Francisco. Some idiot over the weekend called
from Francisco. He doesn't strike me as a vengeful guy.
(09:05):
He doesn't strike me. In fact, he strikes me as
the opposite religious dude forgive all. But I think this
was maybe the most he will ever go to directly
criticizing somebody. He said this yesterday in a press conference,
and I can't help but think that this is a
(09:25):
direct shot at one Diego Pavia.
Speaker 7 (09:29):
We know how to handle ourselves a class. You never
get like you know, ablitterate. We always have a good
time and we stay within our We can always control ourselves.
And then that's one thing with us is it's always
a good time because we control your stuff and we
don't need all that extracrikler stuff. If you have what
I'm looking to to have a ton of fun. We
all just have a lot of fun with each other,
so it's more about feeding off of each other and
(09:51):
have a good time.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
I think Diego Pavia has been getting shit daily. There
was a report, I want to say, an SI dot
com that had an unnamed Heisman Trophy winner just shitting
all over Diego Pavia for the way he handled that
and basically saying that it justified his choice for the Heisman.
So I just love that you have this, Fernando Mendoza
(10:16):
offering up a perfect contrast on how to purport yourself,
how to handle yourself with dignity, statesmanship, decency, humility, and
then Diego Pavia being the exact opposite. I love that.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I love it. And Diego Pavia remains the most annoying
college fool player in the country, So yeah, I'm down
with that one. Who else makes your list?
Speaker 5 (10:39):
So Jalen Hurts had this takedown of the press conference
reporters yesterday. It is so impressive. Okay, So Jalen Hurts
just killed the Raiders, which nobody has given him any
credit for. The Raiders are awful. I heard somebody say
(11:00):
recently that they are like the what's that sav that
you put on on wounds too? He not ibuprofen, but
tiger Bahm or something. I forget what the exact name is,
but anyways, I thought it was a pretty good analogy.
The raiders are for whatever aches you have or cuts
you have, the raiders are a great salve for it. So, yeah,
(11:22):
sporing Neilsporn. There, it is Neilsporn, And so he's been
under fire in recent weeks for his lack of productivity
and then he just totally annihilates reporters attempt to catch
him in a word usage here. They really thought they
had him on this one, and he dominates.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
You saved or received pressure?
Speaker 8 (11:47):
What does that mean?
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Perceived pressures? Perceived pressure?
Speaker 8 (11:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (11:51):
Does that mean that that you feel it or does
that mean that it's sex card?
Speaker 5 (11:55):
I mean it's perceived.
Speaker 8 (11:57):
From you guys having the commanders.
Speaker 6 (12:03):
Isn't that like a caroot word for perception in some
regard perception by those who are watching.
Speaker 8 (12:11):
I'm not watching, I'm living.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
Love that SoundBite, and don't try to don't try to
act like Jalen Hurts doesn't know that the meaning of
the word perceived.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Yeah, And Joleen hurts has I don't know if he
did himself any favors with a lack of He just
shows a lack of engagement and almost feels like he's
annoyed at having to be there. But yeah, it's not
a great look all around. I understand why you're annoyed
by reporters who are trying to trying to find a
way to get him to talk about things in the
(12:46):
way in which he doesn't want to talk about him.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
There's a person by the name of Justin Dutari. I
don't expect you to know who he is because he's
a relative nobody. He's one of many fans of the
Golden State Warriors. Ston Dutari ruined it for everybody. So
Joe Lakeup, owner of the Warriors, made the mistake of
(13:10):
responding to a direct email from Justin Dutari. Justin Dutari
sent an email saying I'm so frustrated with the coach's
decisions and all this stuff. Joe Lakeup extended him the
courtesy to directly respond to an email. I remember Mark
Cuban early on, at least he would always that was
what he was kind of known for. He would actually
(13:31):
respond to direct emails from a fan. It's a good gesture.
Well you know how you ruin those gestures. You fucking
post the email on Reddit, and then everybody's reporting about
the owner's private email message to a fan, and then
it escalates to Steve Kirb being asked about it after
a game because of course the fan complained about the coaching.
(13:56):
Joe lakeup questioned the desires of how the players are
used by the coaches, and Steve Kurriz asked about it
in a press conference.
Speaker 9 (14:06):
We're all frustrated, you know, Joe is frustrated. I'm frustrated,
Steph Andre, everybody's frustrated. And this is, you know, kind
of how the league works. And you know, I hate
when people, you know, are going to post private emails
like I mean, imagine if everyone's emails were just publicly posted.
How how tough that would be to live our lives.
So Joe supports me one hundred percent. I support him.
(14:28):
We have a great connection, and we've had so much
continuity here in our stable environment, and our organization is
one of our strengths. And I didn't even know about it,
but Raymond told me about it. It's not a big deal.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
So if somebody extend you the courtesy, somebody who is
worth at least eight figures. I don't know what wake
ups worth is. But if somebody extends you the courtesy
and the decency to respond to an email to try
to explain to you that he's frustrated as well, and
he's on top of it, he's on the job. Don't
(15:02):
fucking go on Reddit, don't post emails. This is how
you end these courtesies.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
When you do this, I totally agree. A DM is
a private message between you and somebody else, a text
message and email, same thing. And especially if somebody in
any level of fame messages you back, that is doing
you a courtesy. If you want to engage in a
conversation online, engage in a conversation, but sharing with other people,
(15:29):
that just ruins it and means that they won't respond
to anybody.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
So douchebag Justin Dutari, douche Diego Pavia and then the
reporters that try to catch Jalen Hurts and the word perceived.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Ooh, I like douchebag Jason Duttari. It's an annoyance because again,
obviously I don't have the level of fame, as the
owner of the Warriors does. But I will respond to
people and uh yeah, there's a guy who on on
bro Bible who keeps doing it like I respond to
him on DM and he keeps he'll post it. And
(16:08):
that's why I don't respond anything that's has anything to
do with anything. But the point is that's embargoed, totally embargoed,
violation of every code. So Jason Dutari, you're.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
Not you've got mail.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Why are we doing this?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
I do.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
Because we can, all right. So in the history of
in the Bonus with Doug Gottlieb, there are certain people
that are fixtures in because we can. And Travis Kelsey
might be the leader in the clubhouse. And of course
he talked about the horrific injury to Patrick Mahomes on
(16:51):
his podcast New Heights, New Heights This.
Speaker 8 (16:54):
Week on a freakish play to see one five go
down like that, Man, I fucking it was almost like
it was. It wasn't real And the shit just sucks. Man.
For a guy that puts in that much and puts
his body on the line week in week out, and
you know, makes this football world, he makes the best
(17:17):
of it. Man By By how hard he works, and
it just it sucks, man.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Uh, it does, it does. Getting old sucks, Getting injured sucks,
and when you get old, you also get injured more often.
All of it sucks. Why can we played for you?
Because we can't. That's it for the end the Motus Podcast.
Check out the radio show every day three to five
