banner from the UH Tory Pines Pro Am the Farmers
Tory Pines Pro Am, so we know more about golf.
Me and Dan Buyer most liked by then all other
shows combined. And when I say that brooks Kepka is
(01:04):
lapping the field, you know it means more than anybody
else saying brooks Kepka is lapping the field, and we
should be in the brooks Kepka right because he's yoked up,
he's younger, he dominated last year in the majors. He's
he's staring down Tiger Woods and driving the ball well
(01:25):
past Tiger Woods. But let's be honest, for whatever reason
the non golf fan, how's Tiger doing? He's not winning.
So let's talk about last night. Last night, the Golden
State Warriors took down the Portland's Trailblazers, and the the
(01:52):
discussion continues about well, they they're better without k D,
they don't need k D. First of all, should be
pointed out the they don't need k D and they're
better without k D are actually two very very different discussions,
all right. Secondly, I would disagree with both vehemently as
(02:17):
to whether or not I would they're better. I I
went nuts yesterday because I believe it is nuts. It
is sort of flat viable, insane. Just so we're aware,
the Portland Trailblazers were up fifteen points at the half
and the Golden State Warriors needed thirty seven from Steph
(02:38):
Curry and some late game heroics by Draymond Green. By
Cavan Loney some defensive stops by Andre Iguadala in in
order to pull off the comeback one even win. Thank
God for Charles Barkley. Well, I think they played three
(02:59):
fantas as the games in a row. But anybody who
thinks they're gonna win the World Championship without Kevin Durant
don't know anything about basketball Number one. That Portland trail Blaze.
The series is not over. I was totally shocked the
way the Blazers blew that game last night. But they're
not going to beat the Milwaukee Bucks without Kevin Durant. Yeah,
I mean, let's listen, here's here's what's that issue. Okay,
(03:25):
if you have Kevin Durant, Like again, where do you
play Seth Curry? Last night? Now you have one more
guy who you can hide defensively that can't be exposed
by the best pure score in the league. Um, I
make the case that they wouldn't de beating the Calves
(03:47):
last year. Remember, Iguadolla wasn't healthy last year and it
took a bone headed play from JR. Smith to help
the Warriors win that game. But Iguadala wasn't healthy, and yes,
there are up two games to none. On the Portland Trailblazers.
But the Portland Trailblazers aren't the second best team in
(04:07):
the West, and oh yeah, by the way, probably not
the third of the fourth best team the West. And
this Trailblazers team was out their own without their own
starting center Nurkic. You don't have the best player in
the sport, Take the best player in the sport off
the team, and then the team gets better. Like this
is not a even the Kyrie Irving discussion. The Celtics
weren't worse this year. They did circle the drain and
(04:32):
go down the negative vortex, but the competition they were
playing against was far superior to the one it was
last year. I think what we have to admit is
most people who aren't aren't Warriors fans don't like the Warriors,
and people who are Warriors fans don't like the idea
(04:53):
that they needed Kevin Durant to win more championships. And
so it leaves Kevin Durant and the Warriors in this
really weird position. Remember, end of the season, he wasn't
putting up huge numbers. High volume was way more efficient
because they were trying to move the basketball more and
involved as a team. Then they played the Clippers and
they dared k D to go for and you know
(05:16):
what he did. He went for forty or forty five.
Then they play the Rockets, who completely manhandled Steph Curry.
They stifled Clay Thompson and so he had to continue
to carry him and then he gets hurt. They have
a miraculous win in game six and they beat the
Blazers because the Blazers had no juice in the tank
(05:39):
in game one, and they come from behind and show
their championship medal, championship medal. Draymond too Luney Draymond to Iguadala,
Draymond making plays on his own. Steph Curry like none
of this stuff changed, does He does the ball move
a little bit more offensively, sure, but it has to
(06:01):
move because you don't have one guy who can just score.
He's also a very good defender. He's the multiple position guy.
He takes pressure off Steph Curry and Clay Thompson so
that they have more gas in the tank and when
they come out of the game, it's not a complete
disaster the way it was at times yesterday. But of
(06:24):
course Curry's gonna score more. Without Kevin Durant, there the
same number of possessions, the same number of shots. They
don't have anybody else to shoot. Would you prefer Andrea
Goodala shoot more? No, you know, Draymond Green shoots a
little bit more. Clay Thompson shoots a little bit more. Yeah,
because a guy who shoots about twenty times a game
is gone. So you break up those shots, you don't
(06:46):
give back those possessions. Like, what are we doing here?
So if you just start with like I I tell people, like,
start every day with the premise, Um, nobody owes me anything.
Life's not fair and nobody owes me anything. Let's start
every argument with the premise. Hey, I get it. You
don't like the Warriors, and you're not a fan of
(07:07):
the Warriors winning a championship seventy three games in the the
regular season and adding Kevin Durant. You don't like that.
You cannot or should not carry that bias into any
sort of discussion about the Warriors. But unfortunately, that's impossible
for most of you to do. It's impossible for most
of us to do most of what like, Look, you
(07:35):
probably grew up in a town where there was one
school that all the players transferred to and you never
like that, and that's what the Warriors represent to you.
Maybe it's just the Warriors themselves. Maybe it's some sort
of arrogance of Silicon Valley. Maybe it's you. You. You
you like the Steph and Clay Show and you think
(07:56):
it's more fun. It is more fun. This is like
Big twelve football is more fun to watch than SEC football.
But you know it's the better football. SEC football. How
do I know? Look at all the championships never never uh,
please don't like please don't always can join fun and successful.
(08:22):
You know what the most fun thing you're gonna do
in sports is win? Patriot junk fun? Right, Patriots? It
was no Remember last year when they lost in the
Super Bowl, there was no fun, Lane Johnson, don't have
any fun. I'm fun now now the Patriots play the
most fun style like they used to when that when
Tom Brady through fifty touchdown passes. No, he only threw
(08:45):
one in the Super Bowl. It's kind of fun to win, though,
wasn't it. So I won't dispute that the Warriors are
a little bit more free wheeling. The offense is a
little bit more wide open. The ball moves more. Because
it has to move more, they have to create more mismatches,
they have to use the slight of hand a little bit,
(09:06):
and it takes a little bit more energy to win
this way. But just because it's more fun and maybe
a little bit better watch does not make it better.
Does not make the Warriors better. And the only people
who would say that are people who didn't like the
idea that Steph and Clay thought they needed help, which
(09:28):
they did, and that Kevin Durant shouldn't, by their estimation,
shouldn't have left Oklahoma City, but he did. Whatever your
anti Warrior, anti k d anti Steph anti something biases,
you set it aside at the door, you say, wow,
that's pretty cool. They won two games, it probably shouldn't
(09:51):
have one. Yesterday they were dominant, although not able to
put away the Portland Trailblazers for most of the game
in game one. And I wonder if we're gonna be
having these same discussions if the Warrior, if the if
the Trailblazers win the next two games come up next
NBA instead of Chris Haynes joins the show, does he
think the Warriors are better without Kevin Durant Plus. Gayle
(10:14):
Benson reportedly has told people around her over her dead body,
over her dead body, she would trade Anthony Davis to

or check out the post Up with Chris Hayes Podcast.
This week's guest lamar Odom, now playing in the Big Three.
Can't wait to hear that that pod. Um, Chris, you've
done one with uh with with CJ McCullum. And look,
I think all of us respect him and he carried
(11:37):
the Blazers in many moments against the Denver Nuggets. But
he had open shots that he just did not make
that he has to make if they want to win.
He had a drive that he's got to make. Um.
I know there's a lot more complexities in terms of
what went right and what went wrong, but you get
right down to it, he makes his shots. Don't they
(11:58):
win last night? And they do? But but I think
what the I think what going to the state is doing,
it is getting them out of them, rid them. You know,
there's there are blitzing and trapping and hedging. Damian Little
and c J McCullum like really fiercely, fiss fiercely. And
if you look at how Portland was swept in the
(12:19):
first round last year, it was the same type of
defensive scheme, same tactics, but that but last year they
were just forcing, trapping and forcing a dame you know,
outside of the pick and roll game and getting the
ball out of his hands. Uh this, and now with
the wars they have a much deeper personnel. They can
throw multiple defenders on you. So now they're doubling and
(12:41):
trapping both Dame and c J. And then when they're
trapping Dame, they are they're not leaving c J. So
essentially it's a three on two after that with guys
who aren't accustomed to have the ball playmaking or shooting
to now they've got the Blazers planning. This just uncomfortable situation.
(13:05):
And uh that that's the reason why you know c
J and them, you know they're kind of out of
rhythm when they arguing shots. It's like, whoa, I'm open.
You know, they're just not in the rhythm. And you
got you gotta credit or the defense of the going
to State Warriors, no question about it. And and and
by the way, it's you know, everybody's point out how
well Seth Curry shot the ball and played last night.
That's a big part of it. Right, he opened for
(13:25):
a reason, right they were they're trying to make them
find the open man, and when they did, he's a
good shooter. That's not that shouldn't be a surprise. Um,
do you think the Warriors are better without Kevin Durant.
They're not. I think I think they can get past
Portland obviously without Katie, but I don't think they can
(13:47):
beat Toronto or Milwaukee without covering the rant because, yes,
the offense runs oiled and they revert back to their
you know, their their dominants of you know, the two
thousand and fifteen season and beyond, huh or Kevin Durant
comes into players that we've seen it at times the
the pre Kevin Durant days that go to stay struggled
(14:10):
in half court sets when they when when when you know,
when they played Cleveland the finals there Stephan Curry wasn't
themselves and when they just needed a basket, it was
hard to come by. And that's where Kevin Durant comes
into play. I remember a couple of years ago when
Kevin Durant was frustrated he wasn't getting them out of
touches uh that he felt he needed and during the
(14:32):
regular season, and Raymond Green went to him and said, hey, listen, Champ,
we really don't need you right now in the regular season,
like we're gonna need what you give us in the
postseason and the finals, and that's when the game is
online and you just need a basket. And they used
to just tell everybody else to get out the way. Now,
(14:53):
as great as stuff is, as great as plays, they
don't have that skill set to that level where just
is and give them the ball and that's what that's
why Katie makes it better. Yeah, no, I mean I
completely agree. So how do we get to this place
where there there are there are some not a lot
of basketball people, but some in the sports opinion business
(15:13):
that are like, well, you look at their record without
Katie as opposed to without Steph, and you know, clearly
Steff is more important. Like I think step is really important.
I think part of it is there's no real backup
to Steff on that roster, whereas at least when Katie's
not in, you know, they do have hybrid big guys
who can stabilize things defensively and and you know, you
(15:35):
move Andrea Godalind and starting life, etcetera, etcetera. But how
do we get to this place to where it feels
like after watching Kevin Durant go on a historic run, right,
the I am Kevin Durant run, We're back in this.
Well they don't. They don't actually need him that much.
How do we get there? Because I think it's the
way that the war is playoffs. It's a beautiful bread
of basketball. Remember, this is why everybody fell in love
(15:58):
with Go to State Like it was bab It was
you know, guys moving without the ball, you know it
was it was a pass with zip and it was
fast paced. And with Kevin Durant, you know, you can
just give it to him on the block, given to
him on the wing, watch him go and Doug as
part of the reason why keep it? Don't like James
Harden now, effective as he is, people get tired of
(16:21):
just watching him just pound the ball, pound the ball
and then make a play. And while it is effective,
it's just not as beautiful as watching or Go to
State Warrior's offense. So I think that's the reason. Now
it's okay, it's okay to look to fall in love
with how they play and the way they move guys
around and the way Stephanie Curry gets off. But don't
(16:41):
confuse that with saying that they're better, uh, you know,
without Kevin Durant, And let's keep this in mind, no
disrespect to Portlands, but it is Portland. They're plan. They
smashed Portland last year with him right and and and
then the year before um and you before they beat Portland,
but they also Steph was out then he came back,
(17:03):
but not the year be flour when they beat Plank.
Portland's never been better than them with him without him regardless,
which it's a bad matchup for Portland's it is and
and Steve Steve Kurs says something a couple of days ago.
I don't know if people caught this. I don't think
he took I don't think he said it as a shot,
but he said in this series, I feel like this
(17:24):
is a matchup where I can play more guys. And
now you can take that and say, well, this is
just a matchup where he feels that's better for uh,
you know, better served for the Queen Cooks, the Jordan Bales,
because he those guys are getting run that they didn't
get in the first two rounds. Or you can look
at it as like he thinks they're good enough to
(17:46):
where he can really go deep in his bitch to
get by. And so that that's been a lot about
the opponent. And that's why a lot of people felt
like the true NBA Finals, or should have been a
true Western Conference Finals was go to State in Houston. Yeah,
and I tend to I tend to agree with that feeling,
and it it feels that way. And let's let's remember
(18:07):
like Oklahoma City should be better. I don't think they
played at their level. And I think that that Damian
Lillard played at a magical level to win that series.
I'm not sure. I'm not sure the better team the
better team in that series one, but the better team empirically,
I'm not sure one. And oh yeah, by the way,
they also don't have Nurkics. I think Portland's better when
they have Nurkics. But when you're playing to Jordan Bell,
who had been dude, he was in the doghouse all
(18:30):
snuggled up with a bone right before before he had
to play Game six, you know, he barely played a
little bit against the Clippers like this dude was deep
deep in the doghouse. To now getting major minutes and
major contribution out of him does show whether the the
inferior talent or just the ability to play a deeper bench.
Chris Haines joins U from Yahoo Sports, the senior NBA
(18:52):
insider stud gotlip show Fox Sports Radio, UM, Jackie McMullan,
it's not a direct quote, but what she said was,
you know people in in New Orleans have told her
that Gayle Benson said, over her dead body, would they
trade Anthony Davis to the to the Lakers? Um, But
(19:13):
there is a new regime there and you do want
to get the best possible value. What are you hearing
about what happens with a d in New Orleans? Now
they've secured Zion Williamson. Yeah, I haven't heard. I haven't
heard that yet. Know that not to say that's not true,
but if it is true, if that is her stance,
you know, she's the owner, so you know, if that
(19:34):
is her stance, that spills ultimate trouble for the Lakers,
because that's the only way they're going there improved in
the off season to climb up to being a championship potentient,
is if they're able to land Anton Davis along with
the free agents, because I just don't think, uh, they're
going to get multiple and they might not even get
one top notch all star free agent. And so that
(19:57):
spells trouble if that's her, If that's truely her stands.
But as of right down, you know, new ones, they're
just trying to you know, gather, gather the facts. And
still you know, David Griffins there in New Orleans, you know,
he met with you know, Zaiah Williamson and his camping
that would job and rent his camp. So they're still
trying to get a feel on what they have. And
you know, teams are going to start putting together you know,
(20:19):
their practice, you know, Boston and Los Angeles waterers and
well we'll get this thing rolling pretty quickly enough. But
if that's if that's skill stands should understand that, Uh,
that's a lot of trouble for the laces. Um, what
what are you hearing in regards to Kyrie? You know, um,
it didn't feel like it ended well in in Boston
(20:41):
for the season. But what are you hearing in regards
to his plans for the off season. Well, he's going
to be open, you know, and that's you know, that
contradicts you know what he initially said before the seasons
started about you know, resigning there. I guess he felt
like he was caught up in the emotion that caught
up in the emotions at that time. But he to
be known that he's going to be open and you
(21:02):
know the guys that the teams he's going to consider
his New York throw a Brooklyn in there, and the
Los Angeles Lakers. I really do think, uh, the Knicks
will probably be the favorites. Uh. And I wouldn't rule
out a return to Boston. But the way that thing ended,
like you said, at the end, you know, it was
clear that there was some dysfunction there. We all knew that.
(21:23):
But the Terry Rozier came out a few days ago
and they should better be known that there was issues.
It was Kyrie and uh the coast you know, allowed
Kyrie to do what he wanted to do and they
everybody else just had to fall in line. You know.
It's a clear dysfunction there. So I think, uh, I
think the Knicks are gonna be the favorites. Uh and uh,
(21:45):
he'll I think he'll give grant the Los Angeles Lakers
and meeting. But when it's all said done, Kyrie, along
with Kevin the Rank, you know, they changed their mind
from time to time, you know, uh do short short
spurts but I ultimately expect, uh, it has probably come
down to the New York vix or staying in Boston. Um,
(22:05):
what about the seventies six years? What do they do
in reaction to their season when they went for it
and came up short. I think they have to with
the assets that they gave their way to acquire Jimmy
Butler and Tobias Has. I think they got to try
to keep the off the same core intact and you know,
because it makes all the sense of the world, considering
that they brought back Brett Brown, which I was kind
(22:26):
of surprised, and so I think they're going to try
to give it another year run, try to you know,
get those guys back. The problem is, I think out
of out of the two free agents in Tobias and Jimmy,
who are you know, who can leave? I think it
would be probably the most difficult, uh trying to be
(22:46):
the hardest to try to bring back Jimmy. But he
likes feeling. He was actually my podcast as well, you know,
he spoke about it, and so they're they'll be and
they'll be in the runners. But you know, Jimmy's gonna
have these options open. You know, you can throw the
Brooklyn nets in there, the Clippers, the Lakers. You know,
he's going to have his options, but he's definitely he's
definitely looking for a back steal. All Right, we got
(23:08):
game two of the Milwaukee Bucks against the Toronto Raptors,
and obviously the Buck's fourth quarter was incredible, but I
thought equally incredible was their game plan, right of of
really you know, making Kauai kind of passed the ball
uh late on drives and then brook Lopez was incredibly
talking about the Lakers. Sitting there watching brook Lopez score
(23:30):
twenty nine, wheel and deal and look like the answer
is a stretch five. What do you think about the
possibility Toronto gets home court advantage and steals tonight? You know, uh,
I like, I like Milwaukee Samsons in the situation because
I'm glad you're touched on that does about making him
a pass because you know, as great as Kauai is,
(23:50):
he's not the best play making. He's not the best
decision making what he's putting the ball down, like when
he when he puts his head down, he's going in
the score first and foremost, and so Milwaukee is disrupted
that that method, that plan of attack by you know,
conversion only one he puts the ball down and forced
him to make a pass, or if he wants to shoot,
he shoot over multiple contested hands. And so it's gonna
(24:12):
be up to Ka to adjustive game and for other
guys to step up, you know, sergeon backet. You know,
he had a poor game in game one, and so
you know, I'm looking forward to seeing how how things, um,
you know, kind of transpire from here and see if
Kauai can and spend his game making his other teammates better,
because I think that's what's gonna be needed if they
(24:32):
hope to steal home court. All right, last thing you
have Lamar on the pod. Lamar Odins on your pot.
The pod is called posted up with Chris Haynes. Chris Haynes,
Senior NBA inside for y'all who sports joins us, Um,
was it your pod that he said that two thousand women?
Is that your pod? No? That was that wasn't my pot?
I tell you that he I think that was in
his memoir in this upcoming book. But if if he
(24:54):
told me that, I know you would have seen a
crazy faceboo espression coming from coming from well you said,
do you start doing you start doing the math in
your head when you hear those numbers like, okay, how
many six years one a day? That's a lot. That's
that's a substantial. All Right, give me the You gotta
give me a tease. You gotta give me a reason
to doubt somebody, a reason to download the pod. Best
(25:14):
story that that lamar Odem told you, Oh, best story man.
Look he was. He was really open and forthcoming with
his his situation with his accident with us, which is
over those uh. You know, it was kind of a
tough interview for me to do because you know, we
talked sports a lot, but you know, he really really
hit home about real personal items and things that he's
(25:36):
still going through to this day. And then Kobe Bryant
just finding out what type of person Covied Briant is
to him and others off the court. A lot of
times we don't get to see that first or code Bryant.
So it was a lot that you touchdown. So I
please are the people to check it out, all right?
The podcast is posted up with Chris Haynes. He joins
us here in the doug Otlip Show. Check out his
work out whose sports falling on Twitter at Chris B.
(25:58):
Haynes Chris, great stuff has been good, hoop talks some more. Okay,
let's get you to Dan Buyer. Keep an eye on golf. Uh,
I'm looking at brooks Kept, anybody close to him, Tommy
Fleetwood make a little bit of a run, Tommy Fleetwood
being in the great They the funny thing. And I
(26:18):
believe it's on Wikipedia that they have the old old
picture of Tommy Fleetwood before the beard, before the long hair,
and completely unrecognizable. So it's I think I think it's
I think that's where it is. Maybe Ryan Music can confirm,
but there was. Yeah, he just doesn't look the same.
But Tommy Fleetwood is on the leaderboard, but he's four
(26:38):
shots back of brooks Kept at the PGA Championship, kept
car right now three under part through six holes on
his second round leads at ten underpar, four shots better
than Fleetwood, who was also three under on his round today,
but through ten holes. Jordan's speed around of sixty six
puts him at five under par alone in third place,
five back of kept Goal. Dustin Johnson is currently at
four under par with Daniel Berger after around of sixty
(27:01):
seven today. What's happening with one Tiger Woods, you ask,
while he is playing in the same group as brooks Kepta.
Tiger was sitting on the cut line for a while.
Right now though, after a birdie, stands at plus two.
Tiger Woods currently twelve shots back of the league cut
line right now, is sitting at plus three. So you've
(27:21):
got right there to cut line. I mean, he's plus two.
It's not like he's sitting, not like he's he's well
clear of it. Yes, well, the the top seventy will
make the cut this weekend, and Tiger right now is
that plus two, So the top he'd have to drop
a couple of shots to fall on the outside of it.
(27:41):
They're only through six, right, Yes, that's correct, that's correct.
Some tough holes coming up ten through twelve of our
our difficult tolls. But remember he went on that run
one through four yesterday, so um, yeah, and he struggled.
He struggled the back nine. Yes, he went on the run,
and that's where he started today. That was kind of
the point of I did a bad job of getting
(28:03):
getting into it that way. But but that's uh, that's
where Tiger Wood stands. Film Michelson not too shabby in
the hunt even par today are actually one over today
even par for the tournament. He is currently tied for
twentie but ten back of Brooks Kopka, who has the
lead raptors at Bucks eight thirty Eastern tom Tonight in
Game two of the Eastern Finals. Bucks are up one
oh on the best of seven series. Raven signed outside
(28:25):
linebacker Shane Ray and wide receiver Michael Floyd the contracts,
while National shortstop Trade Turner returns to action tonight after
missing thirty eight games where they broken finger. Nationals take
on the Cubs in d C. Broken index finger so

A question for you. Yes, Patrick Peterson hall of Famer? Um? Yeah,
I would say yes because I think that the Pro
Football of Fame. Just let's I really like Patrick Peterson. Um.
(29:54):
But I'd say more likely not first ballot, but he'll
be a Hall of Famer at some point. Okay, So
before were yesterday's story, you would have said, yeah, right,
nothing changed, let me put it that way. I didn't
know really, but it's not just because of the pe
D suspension. I just think that's a Pro Football Hall
(30:15):
of Fame. Now, let's no. But my my point is
my my maybe music, maybe I'm not. I have made
clearly made the point yet, But like if a guy
is in an eight time Pro Bowler, not the Pro
Bowl matters, three time first team All Pro. Now he
hasn't been a first team approach since two thousand fifteen,
and we're two thousand nineteen, and I do think if
(30:37):
we want to be Patrick Peterson fanboys, we can sit
there and go like, well, you know, it's only because
he's trying to stay on the field, you know, and
he's twenty eight years old and he's trying to run
like he was twenty four years old. On the other hand,
does anybody actually get caught the first time? Like this
just happens to be the first time he used Is
that what we're all saying, Well, I happened with Ron
(30:58):
Washington when he did cocaine for the first time. Remember
remember that the old Rangers manager Ron Washington story was
an odd way right, Oh the first time I did it? Yeah,
I just happened to get cover first the first time
I did cocaine. Meanwhile, like you're walking down the wet
the baseline, you're like run runs having flashbacks. Um, Ron
(31:19):
Washington's a he's a he's a coach. I think still
in the bigs though right like he went, he went
off the radar. They got to him very very quietly.
That was one of those you you keep your job,
you lose your career sorts. Well, here's here, I guess
the way that you're maybe phrasing it is we we
don't know if there was a previous history of it.
Would you think someone is more likely then to get
in to have success if they were busted early for
(31:42):
a performance enhancer or wouldn't that always cloud the success
that whenever, Like if they were busted in their first
or second year, we would always think of them as
someone who used a performance enhancing drug when it was
probably more likely that they were clean because they were
already busted. M hmmm. I think that's the question. Like
I meant music, what do you think? Let me just
(32:02):
tell about you think real quick? Okay? So oh and
before before yesterday, Yeah, Peters, I tend to agree with
what you were kind of alluding at before, which is
he hasn't done so much to where you're just like,
right away, hey, hall of famer. So if he's somewhat borderline,
(32:23):
shouldn't be shouldn't it be that the reason he would
be held out is because of a performance enhancing and
drug suspension, right, I mean, it wouldn't be the I
don't know if that would be the reason that he'd
be held out, but if they're tipping the scales, that
ends up that's the reason why he would be held
out because of the fact that, like, well he wasn't
(32:46):
so historically great and he had a p e D suspension,
So we're probably going to hold him out, which I
tend to agree with you on that, Yeah, I mean
because it then then then it calls into question everything.
I'm sorry, just us and by the way, like and
and this has nothing to do with me being a
Charger fan. I actually like Antonio Gates in his mid
(33:07):
thirties testing positive for p e D S Once that
that that that actually that makes more sense to me
than a guy who's twenty eight years old doing the
exact same thing. Alright, is still maybe not athletic prime,
but it's closer to your athletic prime than your your
(33:27):
mid thirties. Is maybe that's me give it a pass.
And I don't necessarily give it a pass because I
think of Antonio Gates was boardline. He wouldn't get in
because of it, but Patrick Peterson feels more borderline. I
went and just quick did a Google search of those
that are in the Hall of Fame of cornerbacks that
we look at, and it's because there's there's not as
many in as you would think. In the most recent
(33:48):
ones are Darryl Green and Deon Sanders. So that I
think also brings up another question of is he a
Deon Sanders. No, but in the NFL in today's day
and age of just a quarterback position being considered where
it's passing everywhere, if you have if you are a
three time All Pro, if you've got it's a more
(34:08):
important position. What you're saying, yeah, yeah, like, so like
the the the criteria of you're saying borderline. Like I've
always considered him a top five corner, top three corner
in the NFL over the last eight years, and Joe
Hayden maybe went by the wayside. Josh Norman was up there,
and then he was Richard Sherman. But then you've got
(34:30):
Patrick Peterson was always there, and so I considered him.
I considered his career, his credentials, a Hall of Fame
career romos, what do you think to be honest with you, Doug,
I don't know enough about it to make an educated
guest on this. No, I'm just saying, Okay, say a
guy is a borderline Hall of Famer and we're arguing.
(34:52):
We're not arguing, but we're discussing whether or not he's
a borderline Hall of Famer. Let's say, do you at
twenty eight years old, he's been in the league for
eight years? Um he Let's say he only gets popped
once for p E D S for the rest of
his career, like this is it? After this, he's placed
probably five years. Okay, do you do you? Do you?
(35:12):
Does that make you hold him out of the Hall
of Fame? I would say no. If it's one time,
I would say If it's multiple times, then I would
say maybe there's a good chance. But just one time.
I would think maybe it was just a bad mistake
or you know, not thinking right, or maybe tried something
and didn't mean to and said I got caught. I
(35:33):
would say, no, that that that part I don't I
don't ever. I never buy that one. I never buy
that one, Like I never buy that one. But I'm
not getting like like I got caught once I didn't
mean to do it what you did mean to do it?
Just you could just say like, I just wish guy
was like, yeah, you know what, I didn't feel as
fast as I used to, and I was training and
I tried to skip a step. You mean honesty. Yeah,
(35:55):
that would actually be becoming of somebody. Somebody goes, hey,
yeah I did this, I did it, I didn't do
it previously. Or maybe you can just go like, look,
I've always done this and only now did I get
popped for it? My bad. A little bit of honesty
would go a long way with me. Coming up next, well,

Tiger Woods win another major this year? Uh yes, he
will win the US Open at Pebble Beach and we'll
be there all right, obviously had his record setting performance
there in two thousand. The final major of the year
(38:31):
is the Open Championship at Royal Port Rush in Northern Ireland,
where they haven't had it in about sixty years, so
no one will really be familiar with that course. Tiger
obviously knows the the track at Pebble Beach for sure.
Psychic well brooks kepto win one of the final two
majors of the year, as it looks like he's on
(38:52):
his way to winning the PGA Championship. I didn't want
to put this one because he's got such a head start,
But I mean, is he an as much of a
groove where he's just going to continue to rattle off
more major wins. I do not think he'll rattle off
more wins, um, but I reserve the right to be wrong.
He's still ten under. He's gotta win this one. I
(39:14):
think he wins this one, but I'm gonna say no.
My psychic powers did not have him winning the the

(39:57):
It will come back and they're to lose one or
both of the games in Portland and people go like, hey,
we need him back, and I think he'll come back
and play psychic. Do you see anyone taking Saints wide
receiver Ted Jr. Up on his bet to race? Yes? Yes,
you someone will? Uh, yes, yes, I think Ted gi Jr.
(40:19):
Super super fast, super fast. Um. Obviously throw a football
in his way and sometimes he catches it and sometimes
he doesn't. But he's got great speed. But somebody in
the NFL there'll be another player that will step up
and take that money. The question is which other players
should should Tarik Cohen, for example, step up and take
that money or what's the what's the due to use

or what's to do the place of the Dolphins. Why

Here is where we stand as of this moment. Brooks
(41:50):
Kepka is three under for the day, ten under for
the tournament. Tommy Fleetwood no Word of Mac six under
for the tournament, also three under for the day, although
Kepta only through eight, Fleetwood through eleven Jordan's spief is
finished for the day. He ended up four under for
(42:11):
the day five under total, and Dustin Johnson was three
under for the day. He is four under as well,
so keptco with a sizeable six stroke lead over dj
and uh And and Frankie Adam Scott, who continues to
to move up the leaderboard, but Kepta still time to
add to his lead or for that lead to shrink.
(42:33):
Tommy Fleetwoods sit at second at six under. Tiger is
six us UH two over right now through nine, so
Tigers two over through nine. The cut line is three,
but that would put him twelve strokes back of the
leader whom he is playing with. I'll caught up good.
More on that to come with Dan Buyer. Half past
(42:54):
top of every hour, he gives us up to the
minute updates Shame Bacon. Bacon joins us at five twenty
eastern to twenty Pacific. He'll give us by then. By
then Tiger will be probably three quarters of the way done,
and we'll get a sense of if in fact he'll
(43:15):
be around for the weekend, and if he has any shot,
which right now he does not, of winning this thing.
Michael Rappaports joining me in fifteen minutes. He had what
I believe is the worst take of all time yesterday.
I will tell him it's the worst take of all time,
and we'll see how he responds, something probably about Stephon Marbury,
because New Yorkers like to bond together even when they
(43:37):
have ridiculous takes that have nothing to do with the
actual thing that Michael Rappaport said on TV yesterday. There
was a report earlier today from ESPN right right, and
I believe it was from Jackie McMullen, who's a longtime
(44:00):
sportswriter in Boston. Jack McMullen had a report and it
was not a direct quote. It was people around this
is Jackie mull People around Gayle Benson has said that
she essentially said they would trade Anthony Davis to the
Lakers quote over her dead body. And so obviously we
(44:24):
walk in today and that's what we have to deal with.
I am not a fake news sort of shouter. I don't.
I like to think that most people in our industry
have multiple sources or have talked to these sources to
talk to Gayl Benson think of the phone and caller
(44:45):
and asked her if, in fact, she would like to
comment on the record as to something she's reporting, like,
I just don't think people make things up. But this
from Fletcher mackel of nb SEE or Fletcher McHale of
NBC New Orleans. Per the over my dead Body reports
(45:07):
out there regarding GAYL Benson, the Lakers, and Anthony Davis.
I've spoken to Gail, like, all right, let's cut through it.
She laughed at the report and called it totally absurd,
completely untrue. Many of the Pelicans organization believe this sloppy, incollect,
incorrect reporting is coming from the same people who said
Zion may not want to come to New Orleans. The
(45:27):
story narrative was completely untrue, and I'm told that, uh
so is this Gails over my Gal's over my dead
body story. A couple of things here. Let me defend
Jack McMullan for a second. It is possible that she
is open to the possibility of trading Anthony Davis to
(45:49):
the Lakers now, But if you go back to before
the trade deadline, she may have at that point been
so perturbed that she said, over my dead body, it's Orleans,
one of the murder capitals of the world. Wouldn't be
the phrase that I would of the country wouldn't be
the phrase that I would utter. But I do think
when you're mad, you say something like that, and maybe
(46:11):
maybe it's maybe it's dated information. It's possible that the
report is though out of date, was correct at a
moment in time, because you remember there was Rich Paul
(46:32):
was seen to leak it, and then we think the Pelicans,
the Lakers. People think the Pelicans leaked some of the reports,
and so at some point it's very it's a and
this is like, this is a lot like Bob McNair,
the late owner of the Texans, who remember irked this
was last offseason, irked a lot of NFL players when
(46:52):
he said, like, well, the the inmates can't run the prison,
and it's really inmates run the asylum. Like these are
long time expressions like gayle Benson doesn't really mean over
my dead body, it's an expression, just like the inmates
can't run the prison or exilum is an expression, but
(47:13):
we get it. It was the ange trade um as
long as I'm in charge. So instead of trying to
pick apart whether or not Jack McMullan had the report correct,
whether it was always wrong, whether she's got a bad
source or two. And this was in fact sloppy reporting,
because I would point out, and this would defend Gayl
Benson and the Pelicans, people say it's sloppy reporting. She
(47:35):
had no direct quote from any She didn't say sources
say that. DL Benson said none of that. She was
as a general sense of like, yeah, that doesn't feel
like a general sense in the way you reported. And
if you're wrong, but I told you that the the
(47:57):
Zion Williamson thing didn't make any sense, right, did you
make any sense? It also didn't make any sense. Forget,
it wouldn't make any sense for Gayl Benson to say,
over my dead body, you might say, we're gonna make
them pay more. Right. The Dodgers have had this problem
in the past when they've tried to do deals at
the trade deadline. Remember they wanted Justin Verlander and so
(48:20):
did Houston, and they were like, look, our order, our
our offer is as good as Houston's is. But there's
like a Dodger tax because people believe the Dodgers can
absorb more of a financial loss. Like you're the Dodgers,
You've got a better farm system, you make more money
than anybody gets your own TV thing. You're in l
a Like, hey, we can charge you more Dodger tax.
(48:42):
It would be reasonable to think that, Gayle Benson said, like, oh,
they can have Anthony Davis. They're gonna have to give
us more than anybody else. They got to blow us
out of the water because otherwise one, maybe I can
get Jayson Tatum, who I like, is one or more
than anything like you've made. You've ruined this season. You
ruined it, or maybe you want to make Rich Paul
(49:04):
pay you ruined it. On the other hand, you gotta
be careful if you're Gayle Benson, not to be vengeful,
because Zion Willimson has not chosen an agent yet and
there's the possibility that he chooses Rich Paul. Like you
gotta do business with all these people. You can't burn
bridges in relationships, not like any agent reps only one guy.
(49:25):
So there's some nuance to this which may be missing
in this report. But here's the important part. Pelicans are
open for business. I'm not getting into the heat, said
she said Jackie McMullen. Gayle Benson, what the pelic the report?
This is what this report means? Well, we guys, I
(49:47):
am move him. Get whatever you can get, get top dollar,
and if it's a Lakers, make him pay more because
they made our lives a living hell. But move him.
We're open for business. Number four pick, that sounds great.
Number three pick. We can leverage those against each other.
(50:09):
Gail Benson wasn't born. Gail Benson was born at night,
just that last night. This is a smart business, and
the Lakers are willing to give us substantially more to
land Anthony Davis. Okay, cool, This whole idea of well,
you don't want to trade him in your in your conference,
(50:31):
like the Pelicans are are in the West only in
name only. Secondly, I actually like it that they'd be
playing a Western team. Every time Anthony Davis would come back,
you'd have your biggest crowds of the year. And there's
what you'd let twenty eight other one of twenty eight
other teams benefit more from an inferior offer because you
(50:54):
don't want to play against the guy a couple of times,
like the Pelicans are nowhere near competing with the Lakers
for a championship, And if the Lakers are willing to
overpay to gain Anthony Davis, you could have him. You
can have him. We'll take a Lonzo and Kuzma and
oh Brandon Ingram's got blood clots, we'll take him too,
(51:14):
and we'll take the fourth pick, and we'll take some
cap space, and we'll take it all. So I'm not
getting into the he said she said, or she said
she said, or Jack McMullen's got bad sources, or maybe
the information is seriously dated. That's a very good possibility.
(51:39):
Right by the time it gets to Jack mcballonin who
doesn't live in New Orleans, doesn't cover the Pelicans, and
it becomes filtered information, she's doing TV studio work in
Los Angeles or back home in Boston. By the time
he gets to her, it could be months old. You
know what I heard? You know what I heard that
Gayle Benson said she's training the Lakers over my dead body.
She might have said those words. It also might have
been in February, before they hired David Griffin, before they
(52:05):
hired a head coach, or they still have Alvin Dretcher.
Then changed, before they hired David Griffin, before they landed
Zion Williamson, and before the Celtics flamed out of the playoffs,
leaving the Celtics in the era as to what they're
what their future looked like, and making them probably more
(52:25):
ad avid bidders. This is smart business. Why would you
cut a bitter out when you're trying to get the
most possible return on an asset with depreciating value? You
wouldn't you just make him pay a laker tax. Michael

He is also a hot take artist, but his artistry

(53:54):
Just so you know that the pizza that we ordered,
the Little Caesar's pizza that we ordered. It's playing up
for the debt that I owed to Dan Buyer because
he correctly predicted. By the way, Bayer not only called
the Bucks to win the series, he also called the
Bucks to win the series in five. And I believe
he even backed up because they would win the series
(54:14):
in five even after they lost Game one at home.
He's like he was not he was. He was like,
this is my pick, and this is what's gonna happen.
I'm standing by it. And that's why he got himself
free reign with the pizza ordering today. Yes, rhyme music.
So for Dan, we know the sweet taste of victory.
This is one of the better pieces of pizza that
he's ever had in his life. For you, Doug, is
(54:37):
it got like a sour taste? Is that does the
pizza not taste as good knowing that it is in defeat. No, no,
it's delicious, still delicious, delicious pizza. I've also made a
determination about pizza. Um uh, I believe that the cheese
(54:59):
on pizza is they it's like they use better cheese
or maybe it's the grease that and flavor that rules
into it, but plain cheese pizza, the cheese does not
taste as good as the cheese on pepperoni pizza. Have
you guys noticed that? I can support that notion. Okay,
I can see where you're coming from on that. You
(55:19):
know what I need? Um, we did get a sausage
pie and we got a pepperoni pie as well. I think,
I mean, may need to have a bite of the
sausage pie to see if the cheese on the sausage
pie is because as the cheese the pepperoni pie. I
just just so you have st a little bit of control.
Group there, um, I love pizza. Who doesn't like pizza?
(55:40):
We have an update at the p g A let's
get you to Dan Buyer. Thanks, yeah, yeah yeah. The
update is Brooks Copca now a five shot lead over
Jordan's speech and Tommy Fleetwood and an update that the
sausage makes the cheese better. I can confirm because I
had a slice of the sausage pizza from the back,
(56:01):
So thumbs Virginia. I was gonna say that, you know, um,
Tiger Woods also bogie the tenth hole. So right now
he's on the cut line at three over. I th
that's where you're coming. But Michael Rappabord joins us. He's
a New Yorker, he's a he's a comedian, he's an actor.
(56:22):
Favorite kind of pizzas what say it again, Doug, favorite
kind of pizza? If you go and you walk into
a New York pizza joint, how do you order your pie? Well? Pie? Well,
you probably have a few other people, so maybe do
half pepper half regular. Are you a regular guy? Are
you a Pepperoni guy? I mean, in general, I would
(56:42):
say I'm a regular guy. I think a great slice
of pizza doesn't need any enhancement. It's just like a
really great piece of steak. I don't know if you
could afford that, Doug, Um, at your pay level, pay great,
but a great steak doesn't need much. You know, the
the meat that it lives in, the the the the
juices that it lived in could usually uh, you know,
(57:04):
take you take you to where you need to go.
But but a great piece of pieces the same thing.
You don't need to do a coutremont. That's French for uh.

Was that what you were doing yesterday on Undisputed? You're
doing comedy when you said don't be surprised if Lebron
James end up being traded to New Orleans? Was that comedy? No? No,
that listen, this is just Linda Rambis's world and world
living in it, and Lebron James has obviously went out
of his way, him and his crony Rich Paul the
(57:49):
the agent for Adrian for uh Lebron James. No, not
not for Lebron. Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis. Sorry. Um, you
know they made the announcement. They thought things were, They
thought this was Cleveland. They thought they were back in
Cleveland where we could just you know, do what we
want to say what we wanted Presto Changeo and the
Lakers and the door of these Pelicans, whoever UH was
(58:10):
in charge of the time said no can do well.
You want Anthony Davison Los Angeles so badly. Do not
be surprised if you're the one who gets shipped out
for Anthony Davis. Now, I'm not saying it's a guarantee.
I'm not saying it's a little far affects. But the
way the Lakers are being run now by Miss Button
and miss miss Rambant, Linda Ramby, Um, they're not taking
(58:32):
any craft from anybody. And and and that threat that
we heard that you you, I'm sure mentioned, and and
everybody else mentioned a few months ago, Oh Jenie Buss
was so angry with Lebron James and the way the
whole Anthony Davis thing UH went down that they were
they were considering trading him. I believe that now, I
I truly believe that. So do not be surprised if
(58:54):
Lebron James gets dealt again. I'm not putting the house
on it. I'm not putting a lot of money on it.
I'm just saying that it is as ability. It's not.
It's not it's not. Hold on, hold on, wait wait wait,
don't don't change topics. Well we'll get to whatever. No,
let's let's let's stay on this. Okay. There's zero percent
chance that Lebron James gets traded to New Orleans. There's
(59:17):
less than one percent chance he gets traded. Period. He
just he just moved his family to Los Angeles. Heuse
he doesn't have to. Okay, I'm just saying he doesn't
have to because you know what he says, Lebron, you're traded. Great,
I'm not going that's what he says, because he's Lebron James. Right,
So it's like one of those things. I mean, you
(59:38):
would know because you're in the three comic category, right,
you're a billionaire. When you're when you're a billionaire, somebody
says like, hey, guess what I trade to go. That's fine,
I'm not leaving. He's not leaving. You don't move your
kids out and your kids about your son's about to
start in high school. He likes it here. He's like,
you want to fix the Lakers, you guys, fix it.
I'll show up first day of trading camp and be there.
(59:58):
He's not, and he's definitely not being trade. You're not
training Lebron James to the smallest market in the NBA.
It's happening. Okay, Okay, you said it, but when if,
if it does happen, I'm not saying when, if it
does happen, you make sure you mentioned my name every
time you mentioned this trade. For the rest of his career.
We will have we would no, no, we will have
(01:00:18):
you on. We will have you on. You can do
your victory lap. The problem I wanted to be called
the Rappaport trade fade now with all the craziness that's
going on with the Lakers. Uh A, Linda bus it
is just Linda Bussesna, Linda Linda Rampas's world. It is
Linda Rampas's world that we are living in. It. Do
(01:00:39):
not be surprised if some wackier things continue to happen.
That's all I'm saying. I'm a Knicks fan. I am
a Knicks fan who is suffering from Zion derangement syndrome
right now, so I might not be in my right mind.
So I blame that on being a lifelong Knicks fan
and suffering from a severe case of Zion arrangement. Since, Yeah,
(01:01:01):
what's what's interesting about the Zion thing which all New
Yorkers lost your mind, was there was a substantial amount
of talk that even if they landed Zion, they may
want to trade Zion to begin with, because he would
have such an immense amount of trade value, and you
want to win now. You don't want to wait for
Zion to become a legit NBA star, which could be
a couple of years away. It's like we didn't get
the guy that we were going to trade anyway. Yes,
(01:01:23):
that's true. Um, and and and but you know, Doug, listen,
you're a good guy. I like you. You're a sensible guy.
Possibly all this talk, when we hear about all this
talk in these rumors, can you explain to me where
this is coming from, these talk, these rumors, these these ideas.
Because you don't know the great Chuck d and public
enemies that don't believe the hype, dignity, diggity, don't believe
(01:01:46):
the hype. I I I started to believe the memes.
I need a song called don't Believe the Memes because
the meme that was going around with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving,
and Zion Williamson. I was like, Oh, this is true.
This is gonna happen because the Knicks are gonna win
the win the draft lottery, and then we're gonna get Kyrie,
(01:02:07):
that we're gonna get Katie and and and and that's
because the memes said that. The internet means that that.
Now I don't know what to believe or what to expect.
Where is all this information, these rumors going around in
all this and where do these things come from? The
fans want to know. I would say some comes from agents,
some come from other players, and some comes from you know,
people that talk, and there's plenty of guys that talk,
(01:02:29):
and you get the right person to listen and believe
that the person who's talking has credibility. I do think
there's a sense that KD wants to end up in
New York, wants his own team, you know, as a
New York or the guy that saves the Knicks will
be a hero, unlike any hero, even even Derek Jeter,
like with the Yankees. Right, it's because it's been that
long a suffering and that furvent a fan base that
(01:02:51):
one makes sense. My question is would he rather have
Kyrie or could he talk Kemba into joining him? Bringing
a New York native son home? Well, who keep Kyrie
as I like to call him right now? Makes me nervous.
Kyrie and Kevin Durant with the young talent that the
Nicks are bringing up, and David Fizdale and neither one
(01:03:11):
of them being very media friendly, neither one in them
um having thick skin, Uh makes me nervous. Obviously, Kyrie
is one of the great players in the League. Hall
of Fame player, ridiculous talent, incredible ball handling skills, all
the things that that that go without saying. But when
I hear guys from Boston saying I'll never deal with
(01:03:33):
that ever again in my life, like they just saw
it Jason from Friday the thirteenth come to life like
he spooked. He spooked those guys on on the Boston Celtics.
It makes me nervous for him coming to New York.
That being said, I'll take him if he comes. But
as far as actually getting over the hump and winning
that ring, because it's all about those rings and things
told about those rings and things at this point, Um,
(01:03:56):
the question I wanted to ask you some questions. Um,
you made a tweet about the biggest misconception in basketball
that New York doesn't breed players. That's another debate. We
could get to that now we do we we we can,
we can have it right now. This is in the
in the current day, current day in the NBA. This
is not this is not when I was a kid.
(01:04:17):
This is not when you were a kid or my
dad was a kid. This is in the current era
of the NBA or more high school college basketball. Now.
Wasn't even going into that debate when I wanted to
know if you could explain what one of the great
point guards from Brooklyn said. He said, and I quote,
I hope I'm getting this correctly when you made that
tweet Stephan Marberry, Stephn Marbury from Brooklyn, Coney Islands and House.
(01:04:40):
He said, Uh, I used to do you dirty in
front of your daddy. What did he mean by saying
I used to do you dirty in front of your daddy?
Can you explain that because we never got a response
from you on Well, that's because he was responded to
something that had nothing to do with me and him. Um,
so I chose to stay on topic. Uh, Stephan Marbury.
Stephan mar he has apparently eaten so much bassline that
(01:05:02):
he misremembers how many times he went against me. I
was on the same basketball floor Steph. One time, I
was a replacement for Chauncey Billips who was hurt in
the UH in the UH Magic Johnson Roundball Classic in Detroit.
He didn't play particularly well. I played fine. I had like,
you know, two points in like nine assists. I did
(01:05:22):
my thing. Uh. He shot the ball very poorly and
he got super frustrated, but he was he was operating
on the premise that like, we never played against other
in AU because shocker his team would lose early UM
and we didn't play against other in a B C
D because they were whatever reason, the other side of
the bracket. And my junior year we went to the
championship game, never played against them. My senior year, we
(01:05:44):
just never matched up with him. So I just think, look,
uh that that's one of the things when you're you'reing
me a white basketball player, especially when your dad was
a coach and AU coach, former college coach, there's gonna
be guys that come at gonna come at you, And UH,
that's if if if you can't play that game, you
can't play the game. That's just kind of the way
it works. What I didn't say. What I didn't say
(01:06:06):
was why don't we ask jim Er for debt? Because
Jimmer for debt actually did give stuff on our very fifty,
gave him fifty. Michael Jimmer for debt Upstate, New York
in the house, all right, I want to I know
you're you know, uh uh, you're a smart guy. You
(01:06:26):
have a history. A lot of people think you're just
a broadcaster or and a personality. Some forget I certainly
don't forget. At the celebrity All Star game that you
were in when you beat up I believe it was
some pop star full court at n I did. I did,
took the ball from Neo. I felt a little bad afterwards,
and trying to win the quarter. Trying to win the
quarter right like like like that's like trying to bring
(01:06:48):
a pit bull at home and make him into a
house pet. That's a hard one, Okay, Doug. It's a
celebrity All Star games. You don't ee people up full court.
It was inappropriate and people are still talking about it,
and you could tell by the fact that you've ever
gotten invited back how much a wage you made in
the celebrity basketball world. I'm just saying you could you
know you never got invited back. Well, I also don't
(01:07:08):
work for ESPN anymore. That's part of it. I played
in the Celebrity Game in St. In St. Paul at
the final four, and for the most part, I was,
I was, I was, I was. This is years later.
Of course I dialed it back defensively until the end
of the game when we got after a little bit. Yeah,
bring it back way bring it down, Doug, bring it
way down. You see, I'm not trying to like go
(01:07:29):
tick for tat be funny, are you. I'm a train
professional I know. Listen I didn't. I mean listen, I
hear a train professional comedian. I've seen you play basketball.
You play basketball like a trained professional comedian. So that's great.
I will. You know what, Doug, I'm a guest on
the show. I don't need to be have pot shots
thrown at me. Um, you know I'm here. I'm here
because I'm a fan and I consider consider you a
(01:07:52):
friend sort of, But to throw pot shots at me
on a Friday afternoon, a beautiful Friday afternoon was beautiful.
When when you? When are you performing in Southern California
in San Francisco this weekend? When are you in Soco?
I mean Southern Calia. I'll actually be in San Diego
June second at the American Comedy Company and UH. The
the entire list of my destructive comedy schedule is UH
(01:08:15):
is now on the Michael Rappaport comedy dot com. You
can find all the summer days. I'm looking forward to it.
I would love for you to come out to a show,
possibly at l A in l A, but San Francisco
this weekend, and then on the June second, I'll be
in San Diego and I can't wait to be down
there San Diego. You got a great shout. I got
a great great shot of getting down there. Fort Michael,
thanks for joining us. Uh, I love you. We'll talk
(01:08:37):
to you soon anytime, my friend. Later Michael Rappaport admitting
to having one of the worst hot takes of all time,
but wanting to predict the possibility of Lebron James trade
to New Orleans. If it happens, we will in fact
call it the Rappaport Trade. Note that Dan Bayer joins us. Now,
remember note that rappaport trade rapport trade. All right. I
(01:08:58):
like how he said don't be surprised. He would the
only one that wouldn't be surprised if that trade went down, right.
I mean, even if it did happen, everybody would be
like wow. I actually didn't think that would happen. Uh.
I didn't think that Brooks Kepta could do what he's doing,
but he continues to do it. At Bethpage Black four
shot lead as he stands at nine under part the
second round of the p g A Championship. Kept goes
(01:09:19):
through ten holes on his second round, two under four
the day, currently twelve shots better than his playing partner
Tiger Woods, who was at plus three and sitting on
the cut line as Tigers one over on his second
round today, cut is probably going to be at plus three,
so Tiger's got to be on that number or obviously
better if he wants to play the weekend. Jordan's speed
(01:09:41):
was much better today, a round of sixty six backed
up his sixty nine yesterday. He's at five under par
and four shots back of Kepta, also at five under
part Tommy Fleetwood, who was on the course he is
through thirteen holes Raptors and Bucks. Tonight eight thirty Eastern Time,
Eastern Finals Game two, Bucks are off one oh on
the best of s of a series Clemson had coach
(01:10:01):
Dabo Sweeney told ESPN quotes I love warrior almott, I
love what I do end quote, when discussing the idea
of taking the Alabama job once Nick Saban retires. Of course,
Dabo just got a ten year extension worth ninety three
million dollars from Clemson after winning the national championship. Once
you once you've been in a place for a decade
(01:10:22):
that's home. Yeah, and he's been there head coach eleven years,
seventeen seasons on staff at Clemson. So yeah, Like listen,
don't get me wrong. I I've moved home twice for
two jobs. But um, like I live in Connecticut for
(01:10:43):
uh twelve years, two different parts, like in the in
the place that I live for nine years. Like that's
just as much hone to me as southern California. Now
I may not have some of the equity. And you know,
you know, like I met a guy last night. It's like, oh, yeah,
I played against you in high school. But like once
been somewhere for a decade, like that's that's your home, dude.
(01:11:04):
So this thing that he'll come back to Alabama. He's
won two national championships to Clemson, who have been at
Clemson for over twenty years, raised his children, his son
went to graduate, Like Alabama, stop being home. That will
be like your first That's like the idea that you're
always gonna come back to the person you lost your
virginity with, right, like you're not now you've you've moved
(01:11:27):
on you with your life. Yeah, I'm sorry. That's a
weird analogy, I'm sure, but you do kind of get
the point, right, Yes, absolutely right. Like my first car,
maybe a better analogy. My first car was a Kmaro
and it was awesome. It was awesome. LT one engine,
six speed, like a big ball for the shifter. You know,
(01:11:53):
if you notice outside, I do not own a n
There's no yearning for me to get a car. It's
no longer home. I do have more of an update
to do. But I do want to say this the
other part of it, Dug, and I know that you've
come back to southern California. Me. Fleetwood just just left
one out. Fleetwood the the toughest part is when home changes,
(01:12:17):
like when you've been gone so long that the home
that you remember ignor mine is no longer the home
that it currently is. And everybody who is at home
or still at home is comfortable with the new changes
because they're there and you're not that I got I
got one that might be actually as bad oors when
you come home and it's exactly the same my mom's house.
I grew up in, same linoleum floor, same everything, everything
(01:12:40):
is the same, And I'm like, uh, I don't want
to be that guy, but I'm like, can we can
we get some hardwoods in here? Fresh up a little
bit trade turners back for the Gnats tonight. The short
stump is thirty eight games with a broken right index finger,
but he'll be in the line of tonight as they
faced the Cubs Dodgers Place picture kent to my it
on the injured list after he was hit with the
(01:13:02):
line driving the five on Wednesday night. We'll be back
to the Gottlieb Show at ten seconds. But first a
word from Farmers at Farmers Insurance, we know every windshield
collision has a unique sound. Beetle bird poop drone seen
it covered it dr Farmers, we are farmers under written

my Farmers truck Fire Insurance Exchange. Then affiliates protus unailable
in every state. Nats are eighteen and twenty five. A
trade turner comes back. He yeah, yeah, Tommy Fleetwood going
going the wrong way as he's still one under for
the day. As he misses a very very I was
a five ft put, leaves it to the right and
(01:13:42):
taps in and one under for the day through fourteen holes,
Tiger Woods trying to say, par will update you on
that one. He is on the eleventh hole. He is
at three over that is right on the cut line,
and he has a I'm gonna go with fift foot
or I'm just making that up. I have no sort
of gauge for how long that this put is, but
(01:14:05):
he definitely needs it to go in, and it doesn't
go in, he's gonna be four over, so on the
wrong side of the cut line. Coming up next, Colin
Cowherd is taking the entire taking on the entire Cleveland
Brown's roster. I'll explain next. Be sure to catch live
editions of the Doug dot Leap Show week days at
noon eastern three pm Pacific at Farmers Insurance, we know
(01:14:29):
a roof can withstand a lot. One exception being an
airborne car. Seen it covered it. Dr Farmers, we are

I can't wait to see Fat Dirk at like next
(01:15:11):
year's All Star Game. Going Hey, I can steals you
the fade away every day. This time we play for
you a portion of a previous show on Fox Sports
Radio or Fox Sports One. We call it Try Not
Get in Trouble. Today we'll talk about Colin. Little Caesar's
is the place to go tonight. Get a large five
dollar meat meat feast for only nine dollars. Excuse me,
(01:15:34):
get a five meat feast for only nine dollars. Keep
screwing that up. Featuring pepperoni, sausage, bacon, beef, and ham.
The five meat Feast only nine dollars Little Caesar's plus tax.
We're applicable, available at participating locations. Canadian bacon will be
substitute for ham in certain areas. Canadian bacon is hammond
certain areas. Just want to point that out. Um, okay,
(01:15:55):
So here's what happened. Colin ranked the ten most memorable
moments of Odell Beckham Jr's career, which included the catch,
but it also included things like the kicking the net,
proposing to the net, the boat picture, the hotel room video.
So Odell has a series of tweets. Now you've gone
(01:16:16):
too far, Bro. I understand nobody listens to your show,
but stop using my name to get cloud. Bro. I
let you say and do whatever you want, but you've
gone too far now. So here's the attention you wanted
and desperately needed. I see I had respect for you
after talking on the to you on the phone. Here's
(01:16:36):
Colin cowherd oh b J went apoplectic. He attacked me
viciously on Twitter. Baker Mayfield came after me. Didn't love
that because I thought we were just getting tight, and
so Baker attacked me, and oh, Dell Beckham attacked me.
And of course this proves one thing that's right or
no t s it's already dysfunctional. I just I don't
(01:17:00):
standard the the high level of sensitivity when you're Odell
Beckham Jr. Right, Like, why do you care? You've only
been the league for four years. You've got ten more
if you take care of your body, right, ten more
to produce and show who you are. You got traded.
We didn't make that trade happen. Dave Gettleman did. And
(01:17:21):
the only way to prove Dave Gettleman wrong is to
go out and play and be healthy and ball out.
But trolling Colin Cowherd on Twitter, following his tweets or
his shows tweets, or just tweeting at him because you
saw him on TV or listen to him on radio,
Yeah that just if Colin cowhard can get into your head,
(01:17:42):
what can an NFL player do or your own team do?
So you know, we saw, we saw what Josh Norman did.
All you're proving to us is everything we've been hurting,
we've heard about you from a negative standpoint is in
fact true. Whether it's the Josh Norman you can talk
trash about a guy and get into his head and
(01:18:03):
get him off his game, or whether it's just the
idea that he'd rather be Internet famous than actually really
really good. Just put down the phone, stop going on Twitter,
stop going on social media, show up at all, o
t a s not. Just want to go home, lock
in with Baker, lock in with your head coach, with
(01:18:24):
your coordinator, and figure out a way to have the
best season you've had this year. Do that and no
one can say anything or they can, but the idea that, well,
you want an attention, So now I'm giving you the
attention you desperately wanted. Like, Okay, is this reverse psychology
or is this just plain stupidity? Is this is sitting
(01:18:47):
there going like, I know there's a booby trap right there,
and I'm gonna watch the foodie trap. It clawed my foot, Guys,
it clawed my foot and I'm mad about it. Yeah,
I saw the will be trap. It's aut a mile away.
Then you know it would be like a mouse sitting
there on one of those mouse traps, you know, screwing
(01:19:11):
around going like, yeah, I saw the trap. I knew it.
I'm still mad about the trap. I saw it. I
just didn't do anything about it. Yeah, that's what the
fox said. Ah Um, this was Darryl Moorey on Rockets
All Access. Take a listen. We've been there as a
(01:19:32):
championship caliber team in the last few years. Again, anytime
you've got the best player in the world, you got
a chance. I mean that's if you look at the
history of NBA champions it's literally the teams with the
best player in the league or top two or three
players in the league. So you know, we feel like
James Harden gives us a shot every year. We've got
to get the right mix of players around him. Yeah. Look,
(01:19:54):
I would disagree with him being the best player in
the league. He might win the m v P because
he had the best season, especially offend. Silly Statistically, he's
a great scorer and a great passer, even though he's
a high volume guy. Like again, I'm not gonna tell
he's an awesome player. I don't think he competes nearly
enough or is effective enough at the other end, to
be considered the best actual player in the league. And
I think that gets exposed in the playoffs. But he's
(01:20:16):
not wrong, not wrong, you know, And which is exactly
why the Lakers in addition to the fact that he
won't go, in addition to the fact that, uh, they've
sold all their season tickets and their all their add
their ad rate for their their their TV channel, this
is why you would never trade Lebron James if you're
(01:20:38):
the Lakers. No one's ever traded Lebron James Cleveland in
the first time, Miami, in the second time, in Cleveland
into the third time. Do you know why, because if
you trade him away, you're saying, here, we know And
even if Lebron is not the best player in the
league this year, he's right there and that gives you
a chance, if you build anything decent around him, to
compete for a championship. So, you know, Darren Moorey is
(01:21:03):
just like, look, we're gonna get back to the drawing board,
but part of that drawing board has get the best
player in the league, and we have it. Plus, what
do you expect him to say? You know, I mean,
do you really expect to say, like, you know, anytime
you have one of the top ten players in the league,
top five players in the league. You know, James Harden Gray.
But we had staff, or we had we had k
(01:21:23):
D with the same system, we would have won it.
Right if we had Lebron, we would have won it.
You can't do that. In addition to James Harden being
like any human being sensitive, like you wouldn't say that
to your wife, not I have the best wife in
the world, Like I got one of the better wives
in the world, Like she's you know, I mean, I
(01:21:44):
mean it's like top ten. I mean, I mean Sally,
I mean, clearly better looking. And then Jen. Every time
Jim comes home, Jen's got like everything laid out for him.
But she's she's she's awesome. I mean, not the best
effort of awesome. Everyone hate st Warriors and Kevin Durant.
I'll prove it to you next. Fox Sports Radio has
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all
(01:22:07):
of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com and
within the I Heart Radio app. Search f s R
to listen live What Up Doug Gottlieb show. Fox Sports
Radio Brooks KPCA continues to play pretty well, although Adam Scott,
(01:22:27):
Holy cow, Adam Scott making a run coming in hot
at Bethpage Black whoa oh, Adam Scott seven under for
the day through fourteen holes. Got a chance to tap
in here for par at fifteen. I believe that's part
(01:22:48):
fifteen and he's still looking good. Brooks Kapka to under
for the day, nine under for the tournament, so Kafka,
Scott Jordan's speed who uh finished the day at four
on at Foreigner for the day five for the tournament,
So very much kind of in the mix yet, speed,
Dustin Johnson's four under for the tournament, Tommy Fleetwood's four
(01:23:11):
hunder for the tournament. Justin Rose is three d for
the tournaments. He got some names up there. One name
you will not see up at the top of the
leader boarders tiger Woods. He is struggling. He's only hit
one fairway so far, only hit one fairway. I know
you about by the way his driving distance average driving
distances two eight seven, I get seven twenty seven old
(01:23:33):
time Tiger Woods five over for the tournament. He better
get it going or he will be going home. And
he does not like a wayward t shot into the gallery.
That's a Tiger Woods is on thirteen, so I gotta
make up some strokes on the thirteen through eighteenth hole
(01:23:55):
or he will be fishing, as they say. Speaking of fishing,
Trailblazers are two games away from fishing for the off season.
That's because the Warriors were nineteen points back in the
first half fifteen and a half and then came back
and beat the Portland Trailblazers take a commanding two games
(01:24:18):
to none, leading the best of seven Western Conference Finals.
But there's a lot to get to here, a lot
to unpack. I think the biggest thing is I just
I'm gonna caution many of you to pause, stop, and
just don't utter the words. The Warriors are better without
(01:24:40):
Kevin Durant, just not. This is not a series in
which they may need him to win the series. But
it wasn't like last night was easy. Heck, even in
Game one, where Portland's was garden the pick and roll
in kind of odd fashion and they had just no
jew you see in the tank because they were coming
(01:25:02):
off a seven game series and you're played with only
one day in between Game seven. In Game one, even then,
they were still in the game in the fourth quarter,
so it's not like that the Warriors are that much
better than the Blazers when they don't have Kevin Durant.
You may like the way they play more. It may
seem like they're having more fun, the ball moves more,
but the reason the ball has to move more is
(01:25:23):
they just don't have a dude. You can go like, hey, man,
can you go score for us while the rest of
us take a break? Don't take my word for it.
Here's Hall of Famer Charles Barkley. Well, I think they
played three fantastic games in a role. But anybody who
thinks they're gonna win the World Championship without Kevin Durant
don't know. When I think about basketball, Number one is
Portland Trail Blaze. The series is not over. I was
(01:25:44):
totally shocked the way the Blazers blew that game last night.
But they're not going to beat the Milwaukee Bucks without
Kevin Durant. That's on get up earlier today. Not what
happens is like, well, they beat the Rockets. They did
beat the Rockets in Houston. It's a great win. Would
(01:26:06):
they have beating the Rockets four times without him? Probably not.
I'm not sure they beat the Clippers without him. That's
how good he was and how much everybody else is struggling.
I think they beat the Blaze They could beat the
Blazers two more times, two out of the next five
times without him. But I don't see him beating the Bucks,
(01:26:27):
and I don't see him beating the Raptors without him.
Do you know why? Because he's the best player in basketball,
because he plays both ends, and just because they won
one NBA title and won seventy three regular season games.
Teams changed, teams evolved, they don't have the bench they
used to, They're older, players have gotten older. Stephan Claire
(01:26:50):
is still great, but a two man team is hard
to win a championship with. So I'm I'm not asking you.
I'm begging you, absolutely begging you. Please please be smart
about this. You can say, hey, I enjoy watching them
(01:27:12):
play more. Can say that I enjoy watching them play more.
What you can't, what you shouldn't say, is they're better
without him. You might think they don't need him. Don't
say that better without Who is the NBA's Finals m
v P last year. Do you think that they beat
(01:27:36):
the Cleveland Cavaliers without him two years ago? No? Way
last year without Andrea Goodala, Andrey Godallas hurt. I don't
think they beat Cleveland without him last year. So you're
we're all cool with you saying like, hey, I enjoy
watching it's a more fun watch. That's good. You can
enjoy it more. You can say they might not need
(01:27:58):
him to beat Portland to the whether better without Kevin Durant, Like,
don't see it, don't see it. It wasn't like he
was playing poorly. He was playing ridiculously well before he
got hurt. All right, let's welcome in Tom Tilbert, longtime
basketball Analystic co host Tilburt and Lundon on can be
(01:28:21):
R in San Francisco, a hugely successful radio show. It's
three to seven Pacific time. Tom. Please don't tell me
you fall in line with these Warriors are better without
Kevin Durant. People, Well, look, Doug, I was dropped on
my head many times from the kids, but not dropped
on my head that many times. How do we get
(01:28:42):
to this place where there are people like, look at
the record without him, Look at the record without staff.
Clearly Kevin Durant is less important than staff. Well, I look,
I could make the I could make the case that
you're gonna take one guy off that team between step
and and KB, that they fund better without KD then
(01:29:02):
without Step because of all the floor spacing that stepped
as the creativity, the fact of ball in his hands
as a point guard. Uh, but he can't make the
case that they're better without Kevin Durant. I mean, he's
one of the best players in the game. It's just
it's it's different. It's like the ultimate luxury, the ultimate
security blanket. Like he's the guy that can get you
(01:29:22):
a shot, any shot, any time, and it's probably gonna
be a pretty damn good shot. They're just different. They
moved the ball more. They rely on a ball movement
player movement more when Katie is not there. But now,
I I don't know, I just I just shake my head.
You know, they're not better without KD. They're still capable
of winning it without k D. They're not better without
(01:29:42):
k um Andrea Goodala historically, give me some contact, Like
this is a guy who was a great score in
the NBA has made himself into like the perfect role player, right.
He can guard any position. He's the one who initially
shut down Lebron James before they got you know before
they Kevin durant uh still guard and he'll guard James
(01:30:03):
guards everybody's best player. And you see his value last
night when he only scored four points. He's not He's
a very inconsistent offensive player. UM give me some like
is he there? Robert Ory? Like who is? How would
you gauge how would you judge who Andrea Goodala is
for this team? You know he's Unless you follow basketball
(01:30:26):
a lot, you may miss a lot of what he does.
I mean, he's the guy that gets the hockey assist,
makes the pass that leads to the assists because he
sees things before they happen. In football, he's always ahead
of the change. He just he sees things. The game
slow for him. Defensively, he sees the rotations where he
(01:30:46):
needs to be. I mean, he makes winning basketball plays.
That's what he does. The winning basketball plays don't always
show up in the box score. I mean, yeah, we
saw what he did at the end of the game
last night to Lillard. And defensively, he's fantastic. May have
some of the best myths in the game. I mean
when he reaches down the strip of ball, rarely did
he come up with with risk it's it's it's more
(01:31:08):
than likely going to be balled. Uh, he just does
stuff that you Again, they don't show up in a
box score, but if you watch basketball, you know basketball,
they're like, damn, that guy is a winner. Now. Is
it magnified as much if he doesn't have the teammates
around him? Probably not. I mean, I think he and
Draymond Green aren't going to get the attention that they
(01:31:29):
deserve if you don't have Step and play in k
D in those type of guys. But they're the perfect
guys to play with those type of guys. It just
we wouldn't notice it as much. Uh, if it wasn't
on this type of team. Although I would submit that
you put both of those on a team, separate teams together,
whatever that team is gonna be much better off than
it was without those guys. Let's let's get into two staff.
(01:31:53):
Some of it is the matchup, right, This team doesn't
have the size, lengthen bodies to do to him what
Houston was able to do to him, Maybe not the
the quickness of what what the Clippers were able to do.
Um is it is it out of necessity that Step
has gotten back to being old staff. Was it a slump? Uh,
you know, was it the the ankle and the finger? Like?
(01:32:14):
What what's changed with Steph Curry. I just think sometimes
it's happened stance. You know, just because you shoot percent
from three doesn't mean every single game you're gonna shoot
forty percent from three. Doesn't mean over the course of
five games you're gonna shoot forty percent from three. I mean,
sometimes you shoot fifty six, you get hot, and then
(01:32:34):
it stands the reason that if you do that, they're
gonna have some gains and some stretches is not shooting
a well. That being said, Houston was physical with him,
They got up in him, they switched everything. He didn't
get great looks, and then when he did get good looks,
I think he may have either rushed a little bit
or I mean, you know how it is. You can
get out there and if the game things are flying
(01:32:55):
atch and they're doubling you, and they're they're switching everything,
then all of a sudden, you get an open look
and you squeeze it off maybe a little. You soon
because someone's coming. Even if they're not coming, they're coming
in your mind. So sometimes you can get inside your
own head even great shooters. But I think some of
it was that, some of it was just he went
through a little bit of a cold period, and you
give step a large enough sample size, will be right
(01:33:15):
there forty two from behind the ark. Can they win
this series without KD? Oh? Yeah, sure, absolutely. I think
I think they can win it all. Without k D.
It'd be tough, but I always said this with k D,
they're the best team in the league. Uh. Without k D,
now they're one of the handful of teams who have
(01:33:36):
a chance to win a championship. I think without k D,
you could put him in there with Houston, Milwaukee, maybe
Toronto possibly, we'll see how that plays itself out, but
maybe four or five teams. But they'd still be right
there with those teams and have a chance to win
a championship. They just wouldn't be maybe the favorites to
win the championship like they are with with k D.
(01:33:57):
But I still believe this team, uh and go out
there and win basketball games against the best competition in
the league. Without k D. Do you think he plays
in this series? Well, that's tough. I probably not, and
that's just a guess. But they're up to all they
get whether there and he's not playing at least probably
until game six, and if they're up, you know, three
(01:34:20):
to two, maybe I think it may be closed out
by then, although Portland's stuff at home, and I don't
think they're just gonna roll over. We've seen how they
can be against Denver. But let's put it this way,
if they don't need him, if they continue to have
a two game working margin in the UH, in the series,
I don't think he plays. But then again, none of
(01:34:40):
us know how severe the injury is. I mean it
could be something where they're just like, look, he's not
ready to go. I don't care if it's a game
seven or not. He just can't play. So that we
don't know what about Cousins. There was some talk of
Cousins UH potentially getting back and playing in these playoffs.
Is he anywhere near ready? Yeah, they said he's I
guess he's not closely there. Now. I don't know what
(01:35:01):
not close means. It's not close mean that he was
expected back this series, So he can't play this series,
maybe the next series. I don't know what that means. UH.
They usually just say, look, we'll re evaluate him in
a week or will re evaluate him then and we'll
see what happens. That's what they do with the rant.
They reevaluate him yesterday and said, well, we got another
week or so until we re evaluate him again. But yeah,
(01:35:24):
that I don't know, Doug. I have no idea when
these guys are are do back. It'll be interesting though,
especially in Cousins case. Let's say it comes back for
the finals. I mean, it's tough to come back from injuries.
He usually takes you a couple of games to get going,
and they're gonna drop you right into the crucible of
the the NBA Finals, where the competition is the fiercest.
(01:35:45):
I that'd be interesting to see how that works out.
I don't know how many minutes he would play. I
don't know. It's like, hey, not the rust off, big fella,
You're the NBA Finals, Go get him. When you come
down to Orange County. You just only stay in the
Bay Area. I'm I'm I'm hanging with all your old
guys in Orange County and you're you're nowhere to be found. Well,
I got a I got a shot caller on At

All right, well you're always welcoming to seven nine nine.
Just just just no, just no thanks. Maybe I'll get
down there, douge with the change, all right, it's it.
It has changed new spots, new place, the same people,

Doug Alice Choles brought to you by Discovered Car. We
treat you like you treat you. Brooks Kepca back at
(01:37:33):
ten under for the tournament, three under for the day.
Adam Scott in chase seven under for the day. What
would that be like? Uh, that's uh, he's on pace
for course record? Is he not Dan Buyer? Like? Right Am,
I He's he's right there today at sixty three, and
so Adam Scott is right there for part seventy. They
(01:37:55):
play this as a part seventy. But a score is
a score, whether it's no, I at it. But but
if you're if I'm looking at its seven under it
at sixteen, You're like, wait, if it's par seventy two,
then that's not on pace for a sixth it's a
part seventy. Um, so does that mean fewer part threes?
Is that? Wait? You know they usually take a par
(01:38:15):
five and will convert it into a par four. So
for you and I it would be a par five
for the pros. They're playing a couple of them as
Part four, and Tiger just hit a par three really short.
Good news for Tiger is the the cut is is moving.
It's really inching closer to plus four right now. The
so that that's good news. Plus four is tied for
(01:38:36):
seventy one and the top seventy and ties make the cut.
So if one more person falls from plus three to
plus four, then the projected cut would move to plus four. Right.
Is it the media and the mean or is the mode?
I really don't know. I can tell you this. Top
seventies and ties play the weekend top seventies and ties,
and right now he's at five over, four over. He
(01:38:57):
just see it four over, although he was just short
on this on a t shot on a Part three.
Shane Bacon's a golf analyst for Fox Sports one and
is playing in the US Open sectional on Monday after
advancing through the local qualifier last weekend. What a dope,
What a dope, Bacon. You've got a chance to call
the U s Open. You want to play in the
U s Open? What what is wrong with you? Here's
(01:39:20):
the deal, so you get to this position and then
everybody goes wow in a story, and then you shoot
a million on Monday. That's the way you do it.
So the story gets to a certain point that's great,
but doesn't get all the way there, so I can
still actually do my job. Where's the section? Where's the
section on Monday? It's in Dallas. It's the course I've
never played. I'm gonna play a blind and I got
a caddy that doesn't really know golf. Who's my best friend.
(01:39:43):
So yeah, it's gonna it's gonna go swimmingly. I think
what course? It's an Worth country. I hold on, I'll
send a text my buddy at Laura was, of course
a PGA golfer. He'll he'll, he'll figure this out. Yeah, he'll,
He'll get you. I'll give you the whole course. Don't
you want to you want to be totally blind? Right,
Let's go for it. Man, I'm gonna trying to make birdies.
(01:40:06):
I'm not gonna try to make bogies for goodness sakes.
But uh, I think I've done the local nine or
ten times and it's the first time through. So so
it was it was, it was, It was fun. It
was fun. To do it. Brad Facton has needled me
for years. He's like, why do you do this? You
can't get through it, So you can stop that from
now on. What's the course again? One more time? North
Northwood Northwood of course in radio for for Shane Bacon. Um,
(01:40:30):
all right, so you're not watching great, great, awesome. Here
I had you on the talk golf and you're talking
about trailing around. Meanwhile it's windy and you can't seem
to hold the phone in your hand. This is this
is great radio, Bacon. Have you got a chance to
tag Woods? Only hit one fairway in regulation? That's not good. Yeah,
you know, this was what I was worried about the
gun So, I mean I didn't think he had a
(01:40:51):
great chance of winning the Gusts ever again because of
the driving. Um, this is what I thought we'd see.
It was more of this, I mean, missing the left
and right. It's uh, it's been really ugly. I mean,
you know, not playing obviously since the Masters. I didn't
really think that it was gonna be a rust issue.
But you know, he's just I mean, driving has always
been an issue. Is that even when he was great
and so, uh, going out there and in missing fairway
to the golf course, like bet Page, you're not gonna
(01:41:12):
be able to compete. And and the problem is you
have to keep hitting drivers because it's such a long ballpark.
So you know, you start missing him and you start
doing the double miss, and uh, it's gonna be a long,
long week, especially at a golf course like this. And
that's what we're seeing. And I mean when you when
you when you compare him to the guy he's playing with,
I mean, kept keeps stepping up on these teams and
hitting driver right every whole even if it's not a
driver hole. He didn't care. I mean he did that
when he won the PGA last year. Uh, you know,
(01:41:33):
the last hold there, he has a comfortable lead. He's
standing on the t I I talked to Joe Buck
about that. I mean, this is the golf course that
you don't hit driver around eight teen. He didn't care.
He just hit driver everywhere and uh, and knows where
he's gonna where he's gonna hit it. So I mean
that's really you're seeing the difference in the two guys
approaches on the golf course and the confidence off the
tea there. Yeah was I mean he was like a hunter.
It felt like I was a hundred feet away here
(01:41:55):
on this uh on this on his first put on?
What is he on? He's on fourteen? It's not good.
Meanwhile Brooks is much closer. Okay, So if why is
Brooks Kepta so good Major's and so average outside of Major's, Well,
he said this week that it's because he feels like
the fields are the easiest that he plays all year.
(01:42:15):
I mean, he said said, there's a hundred six guys
in the field I can beat. I mean, you know
there's TJ professional, t knows he's gonna beat. There's some guys,
they're past champions, guys like Why Yang and Rich Beam
in the field. If you look at the Master's past
champions there that aren't really going to compete in any capacity.
And then you know, if you go to like a
US Open, I mean there's amateurs to get him, guys
like me trying to get in. I mean he's not
really nervous about that either. I mean, he just seems
(01:42:38):
like there are he said, there's thirty five guys he
feels the guy has to be to the major championship.
And if you look at a regular PGA tour event.
Every single guy in the field is a professional golfer
playing great golf at the time. So I don't know
if he clicks in. I don't know if the focus,
you know, seems to narrow when he gets there. And
maybe a regular event like uh, you know, an event
as by Ronelson or the Colonial doesn't really get his
(01:43:00):
get kind of get his juices flowing. But when he
gets to these events, uh, something clicks in and and
and he's locked and loaded, and it just seems like
when he goes out there. I mean, I was doing
some math on Kepka. He's fifty two under since the
start of the two thousand seventeen US Open. In majors,
he's had twenty nine rounds not including today, seventeen have
been sub sub seventy two sixty three. If the pH
(01:43:22):
champions he's the only guy that's ever done that. I mean,
these are crazy scoring numbers. I mean, this is stuff
you see the Travelers Championship, not in a major championship.
And so yeah, it just seems like the guy's got
the game to win anywhere, but it seems like the
focus just tends to narrow at the major's I should
point out that his course record is in dangerous. Adam
Scott is on the green on seventeen. He's sitting at
(01:43:44):
seven under, so he's got a he's got a shot
to surpass the course record. That would just say yesterday
yesterday by by Brooks kfka Um. What do you think
of the setup at Bethpage in comparison to when it
was the US Open? Like, is it is this an
easier setup and that's why they're scoring. Hey, it's an
easier set up. But I mean that's what you get
with the p G A. I mean the rough is
(01:44:05):
you know, you're you're not gonna get a stick of rough.
I think the time change, you're not gonna get, the
growing season you're gonna get, you know, going into a
US Open or even into a PGA Championship. And if
this has been a little bit later in the calendar.
But the PGA is not scared of guys going low.
I mean that's the difference really in the PGA of
America and the U s g A is you know,
if guys go out there and shoot fourteen fifteen under.
One of the things I've always said is rarely do
(01:44:25):
we remember the score. I mean if you, if I
asked you, who's a sports fan, you know what was
the score of the last basketball game? The National Championship game.
I mean rarely do we even come close to remember
what that is. And I think that's something the PGA's
adopted is whatever people shoot, they shoot. If they make birdies,
that's fine. And that's why you see a little bit
tame or of a best Pages. I just think the
set up a little bit easier and they're okay with that.
So does this you know, Tigers obviously historic performance at Pebble.
(01:44:49):
This year you'll either be playing in or covering the
US Open at Pebble. Shane Baking, our guests in the
Doug Galleage show. Um, does this tamper and the excitement?
Or is it just like best Page too long for
him at this age, whereas Pebble is a completely different animal.
Like should this make us think he can't win Pebble? No,
not at all. I mean, you know, I mean I
think Pebble. I said before the Masters, I thought Pebble
(01:45:11):
was his best chance to win a major, just because
he doesn't have to drivers so much and it's so strategic.
I mean, you've got to put the ball in the
correct side of fairways. You've got to put the ball
in the correct side of greens, these tiny greens. You know,
his distance control of the irons that Augusta was maybe
the best he ever had, even if you go back
to when he was in his in his very much prime.
So I think he's got a great chance at pebble.
I don't think just because he's having a bad week
(01:45:31):
this week, it's going to kind of seep into his
game there. But uh again, I mean they'll go to
the range, she'll work on the driver, and he'll probably
figure something out. And and he's going to a place
that he has confidence that he's obviously one at by
a million before in a US Open style set up.
So no, I don't see this bleeding into the other tournaments.
I just think, you know, it hasn't been really been
his week, and he hadn't did the ball very well.
Off to tea. Okay, help me out. Last question. Let's
(01:45:52):
go back to your sectional. Do you have to win it?
Is there a score you have to get there? There's abount.
I think they'll probably be between six and eight spots
to get in. There's a whole bunch of PGA Tour
players in the field for good AND's take. So, uh,
you know, I'm not going to go into it with
a number in mind. I'm just gonna go in there
trying to trying to play kind of smart golf like
I did in the local. But I would say, if
(01:46:13):
you're gonna look at what you probably gotta shoot depending
on the weather. I mean, you probably gotta shoot something
like sixty eight both rounds, which is what I shot
to get into local. So lean on kind of those
good thoughts and maybe it'll work out sixty eight both rounds.
I don't even know what that feels like. I know
at sixty eight on nine feels like I know at
sixty eight and eight, team feels like all r dude,
we're rooting for you. We want we want live tweets
(01:46:33):
and updates. I'll try and get you some course knowledge
from some of my Dallas guys, and we appreciate you
join us. And that's Shane Bacon. He's good. Bacon is good,
so too is Dan Buyer byre coundoot to sixty eight
and sleep like Bacon. Come on, bring some of that
Bacon over here. Let's play. Let's play for some mo
(01:46:56):
we are's many? How many? How many strokes you're giving him?
Come on by yuh one? For yeah, that that is
not the case. That is not the case. I would uh,
I would probably need a good you know, fourteen or
fifteen from Shane. He's he's pretty dialed in. I mean,
you have to have a low enough handicapped to even
enter local qualifying in the in the first place. You
(01:47:18):
just can't show up and say I'm in. Your handicap
has to be like under two or something. So yeah,
So there's there's that aspect of it. But Doug, I
will say this, on Wednesday, I am scheduled to play
Pebble Beach. I will not be here for a majority
of next week with you, but I am scheduled to
play Pebble Beach on Wednesday. Maybe I can check in
(01:47:39):
and and tell you how it went, or I don't
have to at all. I can just tell you when
we go up to Pebble Beach in a couple of weeks.
How about that p J Championship. Bethpage Black is the
Sidebrooks kept is your leader. Ten under par. He has
three under part through holes and currently four shots better
than Adam Scott as you were talking with Shane Bacon
(01:48:00):
Scott trying to tie Keptka's course record that was set
yesterday of sixty three. As right now Scott is at
seven under par. There are some things to take note of,
and that is the cut line right now it is
projected to be at plus three. Actually it has just
moved to plus four top seventies and ties, but Tiger
Woods has just dropped the plus five with the bogey
(01:48:21):
and his scorecard, so again he's on the wrong side
of the cut line through fourteen holes. He has got
four more holes left to play. Seventeenth could be tricky.
Eighteenth could be a birdie hole for Tiger if he
really wants to make it. Uh a traumatic scene. A
couple of big news from the NBA. A couple of notes.
Pacers guards tyreech Evans has been dismissed and disqualified from
the NBA for violating the league's drug or anti drug policy.
(01:48:45):
He is eligible to apply for reinstatement in two years.
Espanos reporting the Lakers won't hire a president of basketball operations.
Not much of a surprise, but g M. Rob Polenka

Mackenzie Milton from UCF when he uh he heard his
(01:49:27):
knee and that that hit against South Florida. Um wow.
Mackenzie Milton had surgery to replace his artery. He he
has a thick twelve inch scar on his inner thighs.
Daily surgery to open his right leg to release pressure
(01:49:48):
and fluid build up and prevent damage to the new artery. Basically,
Mackenzie Milton said, so wouldn't blow up surgery to implant
a metal fix sator that stretched from his thought I
to his shin to keep his legs stabilized, to prevent
damage to the new yard rey, to allow his damage
nerd to begin to heal without sudden movement. It's basically
(01:50:09):
like a leg halo surgery three weeks later to remove
the fixed sator, surgery to repair the lateral collateral damage
and posterior cruciate ligament. No torn a c l um.
He had a dislocated kneecap obviously, no medio collateral tear
or torn meniscus. Usually you tear everything. The doctors can't
(01:50:33):
explain it. I didn't have NERD damage. If I didn't
have NERD damage, I'd probably be playing this year. That's crazy,
crazy crazy. Anyway, there's a story out there. I'll tweet
that sucker out um. Speaking of stories out there, Ramona Shelburne,
the Lakers have decided to not hire a president of
basketball operations to replace Magic Johnson. Gentlemanager Rob Polenka will
(01:50:57):
continue his role, reporting directly to ownership. Pelinka had previously
reported to Magic Johnson. So there you go. That's why
they didn't need to hire a president before they hired
a coach, because they weren't hiring a president. And then
there's this story from Fletcher Mikaale of NBC Sports New
Orleans per the over the my dead body reports out
(01:51:21):
there regarding Gayle Benson, the Lakers and Anthony Davis. I
have spoken to Gail. She laughed at the report and
called it totally absurd, completely untrue. Many in the Pelicans
organization believe this sloppy, incorrect reporting is coming from the
same people who said Zion may not be coming to
New Orleans. That story narrative was completely untrue. And so
I'm told, is this Gail over my dead body story.
(01:51:44):
The story of the day is the Pelicans are open
for business and open to trading Anthony Davis to whoever
the highest bidder is, and the Lakers are like, look,
Rob Polinka wasn't even involved last time in negotiations. He
literally was not involved. Magic Johnson was we got our
(01:52:04):
stuff together, you got your stuff together. Let's make a deal.
It feels like Anthony Davis gonna be a Laker, didn't
It does to me if they're willing to pay above
and beyond what somebody else is, which is smart, which
just really smart, you know, super super duper smart of
(01:52:24):
the l a Lakers to go like, you know, look,
we can hire a president, but this guy wasn't even
involved last time. It wasn't involved, and we don't have
to begin negotiations or talk with the agent, because the
agent represents Lebron and you know he wants him in
l A. So let's make a deal. The question becomes,
(01:52:47):
if you're the Lakers, do you have to go back
to that same place where you were last last time
you were negotiating? Now you can include the fourth pick
in the draft, but do you have to include like
the kitchen sink? And my my guess is probably not.
I don't think there's gonna be huge, huge offers out there.
I don't think Jayson Tatum is get an offer. It
(01:53:07):
could be wrong, but if it is Jayson Tatum, wouldn't
you rather have a bunch of l A Lakers young
players then you and and the fourth pick? Then you
would just Jayson Tatum because you're gonna have to take
something back in return. But the story of that, we
woke up today and Jack McMullen had a story. Jack
(01:53:29):
mcballen had a story that said, um, Gayle Benson, and
she wasn't directly quoting, but she's like she had told people, basically,
over my dead body, they trade Anthony Davis to the Lakers.
Gayle Benson disputes that, says it's not true, which means
they're open for business. The man we all wanted to see.
(01:53:55):
We might not see him this weekend. I'll explain next.

get to the press. The press Dan Buyer when he
got Doug keeping our I on the PGA Championshief projected
(01:54:40):
cut right now is at plus four. It could still
waiver because right now it is the top seventies and
ties that are at plus four. Tiger Woods right now
at plus five is he is starting to wrap up
his second round, so he needs a birdie coming in.
Looks like he's got about a three footer four par
on number fifteen, but Tiger would remain at plus five.
(01:55:04):
He's fifteen shots back of the lead held by brooks Kepta,
who is at ted Underpark kept up five shots, Yeah,
five shot lead over Jordan's speed and Adam Scott. The
the fact of the matter of it would be nice
for Tiger to play the weekend, but by the time
that Tiger plays and gets done, wouldn't be much of
(01:55:24):
network coverage for him. He would need to go low
if he makes the cut on Saturday to be in
that TV window on Sunday. Yeah, I mean that's bad,
mustry CBS. But this is this is a weird. It's
it's still it's two days in now and it's five
days hit on the week Doug. It's still weird to
have this being played at this date. It is. It
(01:55:49):
is so odd. And I said something to the guys
yesterday that I didn't think of schools probably still in
session for everybody on Long Island. So like a summer
thing of going in to the US Open or going
to the p g A, you know, not like that.
It's it's filled with kids, but there are kids there.
Fathers take their sons the US Open. Last year, there
(01:56:11):
weren't any kids there. Well, you were there on Well,
I I didn't I thought that there I see kids
there all the time. But I don't know. I look,
I do I agree. I like how you want to
argue about whether kids go to golf tournaments with me, Like,
what are we doing here, Doug. I'm just saying it's
it's weird there were no kids there. I think that
(01:56:31):
there are. I think that it's may not be inundated.
But I'm not saying it's it's hager bogey bogeye Bertie bogie.
Bogey bogeye Bertie Bogie. It started back nine initially didn't
have the explosiveness lutes are activating. And I'm not saying
a bunch of thirteen year olds you're like, hey, let's
go down to the PGA Championship. I'm not saying that.
(01:56:53):
But it's just you know, there's there's there's life stuff
that goes on in May. Still, I look, I think
it's weird. I don't love it. Um. I'm also I don't.
I don't know that the kids thing, I just I don't.
It doesn't feel like golf feels like summer. The PGA
was the last was the last one, and now it's
the second one. It just feels weird to me. A
(01:57:14):
couple of other notables to pass along Jordan's speed. I
mentioned this five back of Kepta, currently in a tie
for second with Adam Scott. Phil Michelson is gonna play
the weekend. He's at even par in a time for
twenty seven. Rory McElroy, who at one point was seven
over par, reeled off four late birdies and it's gonna
make the cut. He'll play the weekend at plus three.
John Daley at his carts, will not play the weekend.
(01:57:37):
He is at plus eleven and done after two rounds
of play. The other news in the NBA Pacers guard
Tyreek Evans dismissed and disqualified from the league for violating
the league's anti drug policy. He could apply for reinstatement
in two years. I mean, that's when everybody at homes thinking, right,
(01:57:58):
it's not weird. You don't get kid league. Yeah, that's
that's why. Actually why I laughed because I didn't want
to say I think it's cocaine. Like, I don't know,
I really don't know. You're gonna go cocaine. I don't
he got cocaine, You got a heroine, You had the
synthetic marijuana. Oh okay, Chris Carter, what are you gonna
(01:58:22):
do with music? You go in meth heroin cocaine. Man,
you can't go all of the above, at least one
of them. How about that? My My favorite, my favorite
Tyree Kevin story was when Brandon Jennings said that when
(01:58:43):
the Big Three got together of Lebron James, Dwyane Wade
and Chris Bosh said he Tyreek Evans and Steph Curry
would get their own Big three together. And when thirty
games to the NBA, Tyree Kevns was driving a car
during a drive by when he was in high school
and the way he got out of it was like,
I didn't know they were gonna they had guns and
they were gonna shoot him. Like then why just slow down? Anyway? Interesting? Yeah,
(01:59:09):
you were just talking about the Lakers not gonna hire
a president of basketball opicer Rob Polinka. Well, now just
report the Genie Buss. ESPN has worked out so well,
so far, so far, so good. ESPN seven ten. Seattle's
John Clayton says that the New York Jets, yeah, couldn't
maybe trade Levian Bell before the start of the season,
at least, in his words, he sees the Jets possibly
(01:59:32):
dealing the running back that they just signed in free agents.
That'd be crazy, right, So the Jets would be on
the hook only for eight million dollars. Somebody else should
get him in a bargain. But I just I'm if
I'm Adam Gaze, I don't I use and I use
him as much as I can unless the guy doesn't
want to play for you because the story got out,
I would just over use him, like, all right, we
spend a bunch too much money and running back at
(01:59:53):
least I'm gonna use him get because he can't play,
you think, right? Yeah? Yeah, I mean at least you
would like to see one thing. But maybe that's the
mystery of it, right, Yeah, if he can't play anymore
and they play him one game, then everybody knows he
can't play anymore. College Hoops News Memphis received a commitment
(02:00:16):
from five star recruit Precious at Chewa. Multiple recruiting services
ranked the Tigers with the best recruiting class of twenty nineteen.
Penny Hardaway, Mike Miller getting it done, Memphis doing Memphis things.
How many years deal their on probation? What do you think?
Come on, come on, that's not kidding, none of it.
(02:00:39):
I don't think you didn't. Don't actually you didn't think it? Uh, yes,
I have a baseball thing that we didn't get to
in psychic by want to pass along to you. Okay,
Right now, Cody Bellinger leads the National League in fatting
average four oh one. He's second in home runs with fifteen,
first in RBIs with forty one, but Christian Yellows of
the Brewers third and batting at three forty two, first
(02:01:02):
in home runs, second behind Bellinger in RBIs with forty.
Right now, of those two, who do you think it
is the best chance to win the triple crown in
the National League Bellinger? Why because he's so far ahead
in the average or you just think he's a better
hitter both. Okay, I actually did think of I Actually
I keep up with baseball farmer than we talked about baseball. Yeah, sure, no,
(02:01:25):
it's it's fair enough. It's interesting as well that Bellinger
not the lead in the home runs just three behind Yellow,
but has the lead with RBIs so many home runs early,
and he's obviously slowed down to here of late. Yeah,
and finally tonight it's Game four Sharks and Blues in St.
Louis starts up two one in the series. Let's go
(02:01:47):
to our hockey in center, John Ramos for the inside
scoop like the Sharks tonight. There it is, Doug. There
it is tonight. That's the press backing out there and pressed.
That was the press. Milwaukee six and a half point
favorite tonight against Toronto. I like Toronto. I just do it.
(02:02:08):
You know, I don't. You'll be wrong, but hey, it's
all good. You like the Bucks? You like the Bucks? Yes,
big Lee as you like to say, Big Lee. There
you go. What about you Ryan Music. I'm gonna go
with Dan Buyer and those Milwaukee Bucks? Is he all
you guys are all eating pizza because Buyer knows more rice? Yeah? Right,
thirty seconds seconds? Have I had thirty minutes off in
(02:02:29):
this show, had a material ram Ramo, so you can
I'll take the Bucks at home. Yet, by the way, Dug,
I forgot to tell you Friday bonus hour, so we
got one more out. I got offered a bonus hour
at my last place. It I was gonna get paid
less than the costs for those pizzas, though, so I
chose to pass on it. Have yourself a great, safe
(02:02:51):
and happy weekend. Stug got leap Show,
