(00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio and John Ramos is
here as well, hanging out out of Monday. Back with
you a b k R edition if you will on
this Memorial Day. And not only is it going to
be three hours of fun, we have a huge announcement
(00:43):
to make four hours today and the John Ramo Show
will be debuting in a new time slot, John, a
new time slot today for the John Ramo Show. Would
you like to unveil the news to everyone? Wow, I
don't know. I think it's gonna be somewhere in the
last hour of the show. Okay, So that would be
six thirty Eastern time, three thirty Pacific that we will
(01:07):
unveil the new John Ramos Show. At sixty five we
reveal John's fraternity test, all right, So so you will
not want to miss that that is coming up today
here on The Duck Got Lip Show at Fox Sports. Right,
been a long time since we've done b k R.
It's been a long time, Dan, like, like, how long?
(01:28):
How long do you think we have somebody who knocks
on the door and comes in like that? Is that
Gavin's everybody uses a doorbell? Now? Yeah, Like, how how
long has it been since we've done a b k R?
Gott to be what a year? Probably that long? Well
it's a radio get them belt. Yeah, I think it
was first time since we were talking cars World Series
(01:54):
and you're like, oh, man, Ozzie Smith's really got something
for Milis Scott on the phone on the prom Uh
NBA Finals? Would you rather watch the NBA Finals or
the A T two World Series? Again, that's the question
because now we've got Warriors, Raptors. This is a final
that I know the American TV executives, at least the
ones that ABC we're not hoping for considering them not
(02:16):
gonna get any ratings for what is happening in Canadian television.
So now you only have one American market. But now
you've got a team in the Golden State Warriors that's
making it to its fifth straight final and a Toronto
Raptors team that has been a nice story but doesn't
necessarily carry the momentum of a marquee team as opposed
to maybe a a big market team or a popular
(02:39):
team in the NBAS Eastern Conference like the Celtics. Sword next,
would you like to hear Twitter on radio real quick, Dan, Yeah,
let's do it. The w NBA finals said nobody cares
about our finals and the NBA said, hold my beer. Yeah,
hold my beer. That's what a tired, tired joke on Twitter.
(03:02):
But look it is. Uh, you've got the Golden State
Warriors and you've got a guy who doesn't talk. It's
I'm sorry, that's what it is. It's very super Bowl
esque to me, where you had a Super Bowl with
the Patriots and Rams that just did not gather a
lot of buzz. The Rams come onto the scene and
you're thinking, Wow, amazing offense going up against the Patriots
(03:24):
team that seems to be in the Super Bowl every
single year and we're making their third straight appearance, and
people are just kind of ye. And if Kevin Durant
was actually in this series, I think we would be
even more blah about it. In fact, it's his injury.
That makes this actually intriguing. And if you want to
take the whole the run, the whole gamut of it,
(03:46):
Kawai's decision after the NBA Finals maybe more intriguing than
what we get over the two weeks of these finals.
I totally agree. The best thing, if interest wise, is
if Kevin Durant doesn't play in the series, because you
still got that sitting on the back burner, that's still
a conversation afterwards. You know he's going to be doing
whatever he can do to try and get back in
this series because he doesn't want that picture painted without him,
(04:07):
because he knows and he cares about his legacy. Um,
I don't know if you know. This is not Kevin
Durant sensitive kind of here's here's a lot of things,
And so I totally agree without him it makes a
series more interesting. I also think the Warriors like it's
one thing to be hateable. You know, if if you're
a team and you win a championship or two championships,
(04:28):
you're hateable, people dislike you. I get all that, but
then sometimes you go and you are so good for
so long that even the people who hate you get
tired of hating and they just start to appreciate you.
And I think that's where people are at with the Warriors.
They're starting to appreciate them more. And when you appreciate
something more, you don't really have the I gotta see
him lose mentality, and I just think there's there's a
(04:50):
lack of something going into this final. I think them
losing is a reason when they lost in TI because
I always just go back to the Bulls run in
the mid nineties of the ratings got better and better
when they just kept on winning and winning. Like we've
seen the Patriots lose, We've seen the Warriors lose. So
the the unbeatable nature is not there. It's like I
(05:11):
don't know, wrestling term when Goldberg was unbeaten, Like you're like,
all right, I'm just gonna keep on watching. And then
once that undefeated streak is done, you don't see it.
And since the Warriors have already lost in a series
like that, greatness to me is all right, We've seen that,
just like we've seen Tom Brady loses a Super Bowl.
I also think, you know my thoughts on on recognizing greatness,
(05:34):
like I hate I hate it when people are just
like Hey, hats off to you. Hey Steph Curry, tip
of the cap to you, Like, I can't like, That's
not what being a fan is about. Don't hate, congratulate,
don't hate congreg I hated the Bulls in all of
their six NBA titles. At number six, I didn't stand
(05:54):
up in my college apartment saying, good on your Jordan's
This one's for you kid, Like, No, I was stupid
Bulls once again, you couldn't get it done, Karl Malone,
what is your problem? Like, that's what looking back at
the Bulls are like, Wow, it was one heck of
a run. Like, That's what the past is for. That's
what the future is for. When you look back at
what happened. You don't do it now on Twitter and
say sometimes you just gotta t your captain Steve Kerr. No,
(06:17):
you don't do that. In I remember my your hate
on the hating the Bulls in the nineties, my youth
basketball team. Okay, because you you decide your team name
based on what colors you're given. The league gives you
out these colors we got red and black, and to
the death, I was demanding because I disliked the Bulls
so much, let's be the Celtics, Like, can't Sonics SuperSonics
(06:40):
any like anybody into that? And then and then I
I realized it's red and black. There's just not really
a whole lot of options here. So yeah, I get
the Bulls had there was a hateable aspect of the
Bulls be the like Mike commercial, which to this day
is one of the worst commercials I've ever seen in
my life. The songs nauseating that that got to be
a much. I just there's like, is there a bad
(07:03):
guy outside of Draymond Green, who's who's questionable but he's
just he's a hard player. Is there a bad guy
in the series? Like, is there a bad guy in
the series? The Bulls at Rodman towards the end and
you can they and go, Okay, what I mean? Is
there a bad guy in the series? I don't think
that there is outside of San Antonio and Kauai, like
like that city he's cheering, Like like if you're at
(07:25):
San Antonio, what eight you know what? You gotta cheer
for the Warriors or you gotta cheer for Kauai, Like
how awful is this NBA Finals for them? But yeah,
to your point, I mean, Norman Powell comes out of
nowhere and ends up becoming a key player. You got
a nice story there, Fred van Fleet's new dad. You're like, oh,
that's so great. I think Kyle Lowry all we did
(07:47):
is just Tara part Kyle Lowry. That's all we've really
basically done since he signed his long term deal with
the Raptors of being like, all right, is he really
worth it? Even Derosen was better than Kyle Lowry. So
there's like that sort of factor Marcusol finally gets to
a final There's there's not that, there's not that ankst
that Drake's the one that you probably hate the most,
I would say, and he's not even a member of
(08:08):
the of the team. Like, if you're going to dislike
someone in the series, that's probably Drake sitting on the sidelines. Yeah,
it's um. But again, this just goes back to my
whole point on the NBA All Series. All season long,
it's been less about the season and less about this
series and more about the storylines that are attached to
what happens, if what happens, if this like what happens
(08:30):
and and if if Kevin Durant doesn't come back we
know what the conversation is going to be, Like if
Golden State wins the series, and then if Kawhi Leonard
and the Raptors win this, you know, he's gone. He's
not sticking around. He won his title, he did his job.
So I just think there's a lot of this predicated
on on a bunch of ifs with this series, and
because of that, it's hard to really get excited for.
(08:51):
And plus the finals aren't starting for like another three
months right September. It is three days. Like I think
Toronto has to win Game one one. But if the
Warriors go into Toronto and win, it will zapp like
even the energy that is there. I think it zaps
it even more so because you think there they go,
because they haven't lost since Durant went out with his injury.
(09:14):
But here's here's the one thing Toronto does really and
I don't know if people know this not, but Toronto
is known for three things, Dan the Blue Jays, Tim
Horton's and losing game ones of NBA series like that.
That is that is what Toronto is known for. So
if the Golden State wins this, wins Game one, this
is just gonna be familiar feeling because they feel it
(09:36):
all the time. It's this is a team that lost
to Orlando. Remember when Orlando was in the playoffs. Unbelievable, man,
I remember that. You know why because DJ Augustine said
we shocked the world, and I said, the world doesn't
care about the Magic and Raptors. Nobody even knows that
the series has started. This that that started on a
Saturday at like six am Eastern time. That was the
(09:58):
NBA TV game. Already got the NBA TV game. The
past several years, there would always be one one series.
It was always on NBA TV. That was the NBA TV.
I thought it was on ESPN because they saw sports
reporters after the game. Actually sports reporters in around anymore.
I love sports report. That was great. What was that
(10:18):
Mitch what was his name? Mitch one album? Yeah, Mitch Luca,
John Saunders, Mike Lupaca. Funny Mike Lupaca. Story for you
coming up later on quick question that John Ramos, we
are eleven minutes into the show. You've already had a snack,
So if you okay, so so so when the show starts,
(10:39):
lunch begins with John Ramo, So I have a clock.
I'm ready to eat. By the way, you probably want
to tighten the screw on that, Mikey Haven. It looks
it looks like a pinata. Like, what's happening there? That's
something that sounds so bad. I'd rather listen to Mark Albert,
Chris Webber, and Reggie Millery. What you don't like, get
in his face. That's what you do with the play offs.
(11:00):
You don't like Chris Webber. I love Chris Webber. I
think Chris Webber is really good in the studio. I
just I don't think that Courtside is where he belongs.
And it was he he did say Janice could literally
run through a brick wall. And I don't think that
(11:21):
that's possible. No, it's it's not gonna happen. We all
say stupid stuff, but I just think it was. I
think it was a quite a mix. By the way,
um if you want to get it. Dan Dan is
compiling a list of his favorite television shows. Number two
on the list is Carnival Eats, which we are both
fans of. Number one on that list Players Only during
(11:41):
the NBA season. Dan loves Players on being a big
fan of that on T n T and uh NBA
T was the first to hate that what is going
on here? Like but you know what I mean? Look,
we we we we talked about sports all the time.
They can do our jobs too, why not. I would
love to see broadcast years only. Yeah, you know, like
(12:02):
just compare it. Hey, that's what you've got here in

written my Farmers Truck Fire Insurance Exchange and Affiliates parts
unavailable in every state. He's Jonas knocks. I'm Dan Buyer
John Ramos hanging out as well. Three days away from
(13:07):
the start of the NBA Finals in Toronto. If you
didn't realize it, Toronto with the second best record in
the NBA, they have home court advantage in the NBA
Finals Game one taking place there Thursday night. To talk
about that, what happened to the conference finals and likely
what to heead and free agency, we check in with
a good friend from NBA TV and Syria Sex Samrick
Kamla joins us on this Memorial Day, Rick, how are
(13:27):
you doing today? Dan shonas American. Let's go all right,
let's do it. Let's talk about my ten one one
win in Rick's fantasy baseball league that had this past week,
Jonas out percentage points ahead of me in third place.
You leap frog me. We have originally identical records, Man,
(13:49):
Dan uh I'm liking your team, man, and I'll tell
you what. I've made some bold moves. I've made some
trades of work and didn't. I traded uh you uh
luke for David Price. That's not worked out. And by
the way, Joe Madden, the Cubs manager, was talking about this,
and I would be all on board that he actually
(14:09):
wants them to teach analytics and fantasy baseball in school.
He says it's a it's a better way for people
to learn math and learn numbers. Could you imagine that
growing up, guys, if we had that in school, I
swear to got it. I'd be an a student. I'd
be actually be interested. I knew. I love Joe Madden.
I love his poky nutty approach. And I'll tell you
this guy's I got through Algebra one in eighth grade
(14:32):
by the skin of my teeth. And I went to
my mom at the beginning of algab for two and
uh and I about a weekend, I said, Mom, this
isn't work. And she went to the school got me
in the dummy math class and I really didn't have
to take math class. Life. Yes, fantasy baba, uh mom,
Kimo with the clutch move there, that's that's key. That
(14:53):
that's key. By the way, the key is also loading
up on pictures when you can. On Sunday stole a
couple of wins yesterday. Just a little just a little
secret that I think everybody knows about. All right, let's
talk about these NBA Finals. We're just talking about this
actual matchup as it is. For all the great stories
that we've had throughout the NBA playoffs, whether it be
Damian Lillard in the first round, moving through the drama
(15:14):
with the Celtics, now we're here at the NBA Finals
and we have Warriors Raptors. Is that a good thing? Yeah?
I think it's a very good thing. Um. I thought that,
the guys. Before the season started, I did not predict
the Raptors uh to win the East. I put it
to the Boston would would win it. But before the playoffs,
after watching the tire regular season, I said, Toronto's winning
(15:36):
the East. Now when it was too nothing Milwaukee, I
wasn't feeling great about that prediction, but I hung in
there with it, and amazingly they ripped off four games
in a row. Uh, guys, Look, the bottom line is
if fred Danvleet doesn't have a son and he doesn't
name that son, Dan Lee Jr. And it's not there
for there and like all the emotional boosting from the
(15:58):
delivery of of a new life Um, the Toronto Raptors
would not be here. He in the last three games
his shot from the field two percent of something like
that on threes and it's got from four points in
the playoffs before the birth of the Song to sixteen
points per game. Those outpums in the last three games
(16:18):
are the reasons Direct you know, has been great on
that kind of stuff. But that's right. Then I leave
doing that sixteen point per game things. The Rockers wouldn't
be here, uh Rick, What was more impressive what the
Warriors did to the Blazers without Kevin Durant and for
that matter, after at the end of the Rocket series,
or Toronto winning four straight against Milwaukee. That is a
million dollar question. Boy, that's a tough one. I gotta say,
(16:42):
you know what, I'm gonna give Portland a line of
credit and say gold and stay because guys, you saw
Portland's you know, took here of Oklahoma City, that that
series was the lack of quicker than I thought it
was going to be. Then Portlands goes into Denver and
Lins of game seven, right, I mean once the percent
of the times when the game uh. And and obviously
they were in the games against Bolden State in the
(17:04):
Western Conference Finals, but Portland was on one. They had
a mission mentality, they had too great players are playing
at the peak of their abilities. And so I think
that with that Kevin Durran Golden State dispatching of Portland
was just a little bit more impressive. Rick Cambell joining
us here at the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer, sitting in for Doug
on this Memorial Day. Where does Milwaukee go from here?
(17:27):
Because you've now got decisions with Chris Middleton, Malcolm Brogden's
gonna want a new contract, You've got some other pieces
that are on a one year deal. If your Milwaukee
and John Horst in that front office, how do you
construct this team going forward? Well, I've read that, Uh,
the Brook Lopez is a big offseason priority for them,
and he should be. Uh he is a free agent.
Who news is a free agent? Two is going to
(17:49):
be a free agent. Brogden will be you know, an
offer seat a bowl respected free egent and Eton's gonna
opt out of a thirteen million dollar player option and
hit the open market. Um, that is really the core
of their team. Um, you know what, so will be
under contract, be honest, will be under contract, but a
lot of very important guys may or may not stick
(18:09):
with this team. Oh. I think they're gonna do what
they have to do to keep Chris Milton. I don't
know if they all the way to the top of
the Knox, but he's gonna get him ounting of money. Uh.
Brook Lopez played this year at just over three billion dollars.
You know, you bump him up, you give him a race,
keep him happy. I bet you he comes back. Uh.
Nicoleon Merritage was a did not play coaches decision in
(18:30):
Game six, didn't even play. So that's not a good
cent for his future in Milwaukee. Uh. You know, I
could see George Joe coming back there. He made about
eighteen or nineteen million dollars this year. Uh, at the
end of just an absolutely uh extraordinary contract for him,
And so he's got a mounting of money unless he's
been a real dumb and I don't think he has been.
So he may come back and in a four or
(18:51):
five six million bucks. But I don't know who knows.
Man for ket he's gonna be wacky. But like half
of the core, uh may not be back cambling with
us here on Fox Sports Radio. Rick. Look, we're in
the media, so we like the guys that are boisterous
and that talk in our loud Mouse. I think guys
like Kawahi Leonard and Clay Thompson are such a breath
of fresh air. There's no there's no real ego attached
(19:13):
to it, at least not on the outside. There's no
no flash, not a lot of sizzle. They just show up.
They were Clay Thompson loses out on thirty million dollars
and he's whole hum out while at a shoot around.
Where do you stand on just how their approach to
the game and their approach with their media obligations. Yeah,
I mean, look, they're professionals, man and there, and the
killers on the court, but they do it in a
(19:36):
real uh stealthy style, you know. Uh In speaking of
are uh going to my Twitter pitch? I don't know
if you guys seen the video that's been resurfacing the
Kawhi Leonard in the karate gear. We blocked you on Twitter. Rick, No,
I'm just kidding, but he's he's got the things that, Yeah,
we'll chop y'all up karate style like you got it here.
It's like you're trying to show personality. Uh and he fails.
(19:59):
But it's a nice attempt. But um, look, guys, think
the games of Kawhi Leonard had in Games five and
six are two of the best fact about playoff games ever,
you're you're talking about seven and nine. Carl Hid with
those nine assists in Game five, first road winning the
conference finals in franchise history. Then he comes back with
twenty seven a career, has seven team boards, I think
(20:21):
seven assists, two blocks, just deals and the first time
the Toronto has ever won the East. I'm totally blown away.
I have forgiven him, taking a quarter of the season
off with load management, which bothered the heck out of me.
But I've forgiven him. I haven't forgotten, but I have
forgiven him. Heysed on what he did so far in
these playoffs. Rick Hamblin joining us here at Fox Sports Radio.
Find him on Twitter at NBA TV. Rick Key's Jonas knocks,
(20:44):
I'm Dan Buyer speaking of Kauai, his uncle spoke out
to Yahoo's Sports spoke with Chris Haynes Dennis Robertson explaining
why they had such a problem with San Antonio. Was
an old story, but now it's brought up again, and
it seems to be over how the Spurs tried to
handle that quad injury, which seems to kind of be
the the the general sense. Were you surprised that this
(21:05):
story now comes out three days in advance of the
NBA Finals or is this the perfect timing for Kauai's
camp to relive this story? You know what, great question, Dan,
It's actually the perfect time because we got a little
bit of a down period here right. The games don't
fire up until Thursday. Media availability in Toronto's gonna be
on Wednesday. And uh. And I've always sort of been
(21:26):
like with the with the San Antonio camp, with this
with the great Popovitch camp, until I got some into
a couple of months ago from a Hall of famer
who and so he said, the San Antonio Spurs misdiagnosed
to the injury to Kauai Leonard, and I said, you're wrong.
There's no way that happened. There's just no possible way
of first class organization like san Antonio would do that.
(21:49):
He grabbed me by the shoulders, not violently, but just
to it looked right in the eye. He said, I'm
not lying. That got it straight from the from the
Leonner camp. I believe of it. And and this this
Hall of Famer was so convinced. I'm like, damn, maybe
they did misdiagnoses, like so, uh, you know, I still
um hold again taking the quarter of the season off
(22:11):
of load management. It is just a total buzz kill,
and I don't I don't think it's right. But I
am backing off and retreating life of my criticism of
Kauai in the Koi Verus Popovitch thing, because, like I said,
I got some really good intels that the San Antonio
Spurs misdiagnosed as injury and misdiagnosed in that they thought
it was less serious than it actually was. Well, I
(22:32):
didn't get that detailed, Jonas, That's a great follow up.
It could have been what was it a quad? Was
it something in the need? Uh? Or you know what
I'm saying, Or you know, maybe maybe they diagnosed it
correctly and treated it incorrectly. But that there was some
kind of of of issue with without the San Antonio Spurs.
Don't look at Kawhi leonard injury, And like I said,
(22:54):
I thought Kauai Leonard taking his ball and going home
on grit Popovitch was obnoxious and uh, and I heard
that there was an absolutely valid reason why he did.
That's the issue that Jonas and I were actually discussing
before the show was I don't even remember the quad injury, Rick,
Like I remember the ankle in Game one of the
Western Conference Finals, and so as we're sitting here backtracking
(23:16):
and remember, I'm like, I don't even remember this being
an issue, and and and like looking back at it,
I just like I I just remember him not being
able to play the rest of the Western Conference Finals
and then and then all of the drama happening that
That's what was so weird to me is I don't
even remember the quad being an issue before it became
an issue in the media. Yeah, no doubt about it.
And then you know, we had the game, I forget
(23:38):
what game it was. The gamer in the first quarter,
he went up to the bunk and it likes didn't
comply and he had to lay it anyway, I think
it's a double overtime game. And he was lable through
that game, but the car had fifty two minutes or
whatever it was. Uh. And and so you know, he
takes a quarter of the season off with load management.
He missed actually all of last year with this quad issue,
(23:58):
and I was a god, here we go again. And
then to see him do guys in games five, in
game six, I mean, uh, it's just it's absolutely jaw dropping. Yeah,
it's it's been fun to watch. And and if you
were to just and I know, listen, we're like either guy,
it's still up in the air. They can make their decision.
But gut feeling right now, um, just looking ahead of time,
(24:21):
more likely to stay with their current team, Kevin Duran
or quiet Leonard boy boy, Um, I'm gonna say Kevin Duran.
I think Cowhi Leonards gone, guys keep in l A
Cooper And I think there's a lot of you know,
I Camp coming out and saying, you know, we don't
want to go there. But once you get into the situation,
you start to like it, and you start to like
the city and that. But look, and that's that's all
(24:44):
probably true. Turn is an awesome City, and that's an
awesome organization. Partners should say organization. But but I think
ki Lett is going to the l A Cooper's I
think the rating has been on the wall. Remember Paul
George was going to go to l An then the
Lakers completely screwed up that transaction. I don't think the
Clippers are going to score up this transaction. I think
he's going to the Clippers, and I think's gonna stay
(25:04):
in Golden State. Find about Twitter at NBA TV. Rick
see him on NBA TV and here I'm on Sirius
XM Radio, Rick Camball. We appreciate it, Rick Camma with
the knowledge interesting on kawhile to get into that. Yeah,
the mistagnosis, that's that's fascinating. I had not heard that
that somebody was all in on on the idea of no,
(25:28):
this is kind of a Spurs box job, like maybe
they screwed this whole thing up. So that's that's interesting.
All right. Your buddy Brian Geltzeiler joined us, and he
was one of the only few who were saying there's
something wrong in San Antonio. Like I was. I was
on the Spur side with that. Remember, I was totally
but I remember him coming on, and he was adamant
that it was wasn't Kauai's deal, and we had heard
(25:48):
a Kawai's family and camp getting in on it. Interesting,
I mean, well, and there's also you know, Tony Parker
was publicly critical and and the only thing I was
hesitant was, well, we're gonna Tony Parker, you know, the
guy who slept with Brett Berry's wife. Okay, so that
guy here, We're gonna trust Tony Parker to see how
true story. Uh, Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks in for Doug
(26:11):
Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio. What the hell was that? Is? John? John?
Johnny clearing your thrown in there? Yeah, that's what I
have written down. Here is a French laugh. Alright, thank you, Paris. Alright.
Coming up next year on Fox Sports Radio, we're gonna
get to the bottom of something near and dear no
(26:33):
pun intended to Dan Buyer's heart. Alright, We're getting to
the bottom of it. That'll be coming up next. But
brought the latest from around the world of sports. Just
pay your damn respects to Isaac Loan kron Right you are,
Jonas and Dan. Good afternoon. We start with sad news
from the world of Major League Baseball. All Star in
National League Batting Champion Bill Buckner passed away today at
(26:53):
the age of sixty nine after a battle with Louis
body dementia. Buckner played for twenty two seasons in the
Major's the Dodgers, Cubs, Angels, Royals, and most notably, the
Boston Red Sox. In fact, here's how it sounded on
opening Day of two thousand and eight, when the Red
Sox invited Buckner back to Fenway to throw out the
(27:13):
ceremonial first pitch, he was greeted by a standing ovation
that brought tears to his eyes. Won't you please welcome
and back to Boston and let him know that he
is welcome always Number six, Phil Buckler. As for the
(27:35):
present day Red Sox, today they play second baseman Dustin
Pedroia on the sixty day injured list with a left
knee injury, Pedroia saying that he will shut down his
recovery efforts indefinitely while determining whether or not he's going
to retire. On the scoreboard right now, the Yankees have
extended it to a five to two leader of the
Padres in the bottom of the eighth inning. Finally, in
the NHL, it's Game one of the Stanley Cup Final
(27:58):
as the Bruins take on the St. Louis Blues from
Teddy Garden in Boston at eight Eastern and tonight's Discovered
Card key matchup discovers going further with Miles rewards than
they've ever gone before because the Discovering Miles card automatically
matches all the miles you earn at the end of

No limitations apply to these two. Back to Jonas Knox
and Dan Buyers sitting again for Doug Gottlieb intent. But
first a word from farmers at Farmers Insurance. We know
every windshield collision has a unique sound. Beetle bird, poop,
drone seen it covered it, Doctor Farmers. We are farmers

Thank you very much. I think Low and Kron. He's
Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer sitting in for Doug today.
John Ramos is here as well. By the way, guys,
if John had a hockey podcast, would it be face
Off with John Ramos, in the crease with John Ramos
or the penalty box with John rom What do you
(29:06):
think any of those? Any ideas? Increase in the crease
seems like a John Ramos type. Yeah, I like the
penalty box. But in the fourth period twenty more minutes
of hockey knowledge from John Ramos or five or fourth
period podcast or five hole. Yeah, John Ramos, I like
(29:30):
them all. Write Let me write him down though. That's tonight.
By the way, at nine o'clock East high sticking. You know,
we could go all the way down the list, so
he and uh Suzanne did in their Hunting Moon. That
is just unbelievable, Dan, Is that true? I need anything,
I need anything to make me laugh. After this past weekend,
(29:51):
I had I had been making plans to go to
Milwaukee for an NBA Finals game of trying to figure
out a way to somehow all right, maybe if we
go at this time, fly in, maybe we could get
Like before the series started in the Eastern Conference Finals,
when they were up to oh, I was even you know,
nonrefundable tickets let's uh didn't get as far still, let
(30:15):
it play out. Good thing, that good thing that I did. Now,
how many times did you see this on on social media?
I guess the buck stops here. I I did, and
I also saw just Bucks weren't ready for the moment. Really,
bro that was it. They were so nervous, they were
so afraid. That's why they won two games. Yeah, when
(30:36):
they when they were up to all they just weren't
ready for that moment, when they were seconds away from
winning Game three that went to double overtime. They weren't
ready for the moment. How about Toronto just locked them up?
Boxer losing a close decision just not in his class
to the store cards. Mean, it made me so mad
because it's such an easy cop out and it's it's
(31:00):
just it like no, Like, did did you see Warts
and Janice's game? Yes? Did The Bucks have one of
the most dominant regular seasons in recent history where they
rarely trailed and rarely were losing in meaningful games. It
was one of those seasons. They are the third most
double digit wins I believe in the NBA history in
(31:21):
the regular season. So the din't play close games. It
was actually something that to me, Jonas was going to
be an issue of like who would take the shot
at the end of the game. But it's not even
the final seconds. It's what happened to the final minutes.
And I brought this this point up recently of the
Raptors in Game six put the Bucks in the penalty
on the free throw line and they weren't even halfway
(31:42):
done with a third quarter. So that defense that they
were coming out and pressuring, you're not gonna call that
every single time. And I give the Raptors. I give
the Raptors all the credit in in in stopping Milwaukee
and making them not play their game. But it wasn't
because they went ready for the moment. How about, it
was the Raptors defense was in their face, so they
were swarming nice and making him make bad decisions that
(32:07):
to me isn't not ready for the moment. That's all right,
we know how to beat this team, and that's what
I think got lost over the series. Yeah, look, any
time there's an NBA playoff series, the best team always wins.
This is in the n c A tournament, where you
get one shot in a bad half and your season's over.
The best team always wins. Toronto is just a little
bit better than Milwaukee. But Milwaukee won games one in
(32:28):
Game two, were ahead big time in Game six. This
very easily could have been a seven game series. The
pivotal game was the game that I did not see
happening at all in that series, and that was Game five.
I I assumed that I had a pretty good read
on how the series is gonna go, and it felt
like Milwaukee's gonna get Game five, Toronto's gonna get Game six,
(32:49):
and we're gonna be staring at a Game seven on
Monday night, a Memorial Day. I did not see that
series going the way that it did. It was and
whether you want to say it was Boutenholez or not
making adjustments or whatever, Janice is still a developing player.
He took great strides, He's gonna continue to take great strides.
And Kawhi Leonards just further along in his development. And
(33:09):
that was a big deal. You know what else it
was too And and I don't want to say this
because I don't wanted to diminish what Toronto did, but
they fell backwards into Fred van Vleet and Norman Powell
because they played that seven game series with the Sixers.
In that Game seven, they played six guys in that
Game seven. And you saw in the Game one where
they go to Milwaukee, they have a lead that kind
of wear out at the end. Milwaukee ends up getting
(33:32):
the Game one victory, and all of a sudden, you realize, Okay,
we can't play six guys. There's no way we're gonna
make it through the series. And Danny Green happens to
stink like Danny Green can't hit a shot. Well, if
Danny Green can't hit a shot, we can't play six guys.
Let's put in Fred Van Vleet. Let's put in Norman Powell.
All of a sudden, those guys come in. And that
(33:53):
wasn't the Raptors team, honestly, that I was preparing for
as a Bucks fan. I was preparing for the team
that we had just seen goes seven games with the
seventy sixers with a really short bench. All of a
sudd now you've got the shooting of Van Fleet, you
got the energy and the playmaking of Norman Powell. Those
guys ended up being difference makers and some of the
you know Rick Kama mentioned Nicola Merit, it's didn't even
(34:14):
play in Game six. He was a weakness on defense
and the shots weren't falling, and Boutenoser didn't put him in.
So there was there was some stuff that the Raptors
ended up falling into that help their cause. I don't
want to take it away from them, but it's it
was something that I don't think Milwaukee expect. And here's
uh something to think about as well. To give Toronto credit.
They're going to the finals. Good for them. Whose future
(34:35):
do you feel better about going into next season? Milwaukee? Here, Toronto,
Milwaukee hundred percent? Like this is it. This is the
the peak for Toronto because you realize Kauai has probably
gone after this, so you're taking you're you're basically it
was like a mid season acquisition in baseball when you
trade away a bunch of young prospects to bring in
(34:55):
this guy. Your hope is going to win you a
World Series and if it does, awesome, you gonna roll
this Chatman with the Cubs, and if it doesn't, you
get Manny Machado with the Dodgers and then it's kind
of a waste of time. So if Toronto doesn't win
the Finals, this is great and all, but we're talking
a major step back next year when Kauai doesn't resign
there that would make the Eastern Conference even more interesting
considering what could happen this summer. Dan Buyer Jonas Knox

(36:46):
is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show. All right,
Dan and Jonas, are you ready? Here we go? What
do we got today? Ramo's big deal, little deal? No,
Jim Monday's staple exactly. We didn't even know that was
coming up next. No, especially since you mentioned it before.
That's that's a little deal. Let's get to a potential
(37:10):
big deal. Somebody on social media posted a picture Friday
night of Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr having
dinner in San Francisco at an Italian place called Seven
Hills with San Antonio Spurs head coach Greg Popovich. Was
this dinner a big deal, a little deal or no deal?
(37:34):
I think it was a big meal. I think it was.
I think they got an appetizer. I think they got
some wine and then had the main course. And I
also think that they had a dessert. So I think
that is is a big meal. You said, Italian restaurant.
Assume Rick Petito was going to be there. It's in
the kitchen, that's only after hours. Buyers uncharacteristically salty today,
(37:57):
and I like it. He's usually a very mild mannered
I I like this new side of buyer happens in
your team. Blows a two lead, making references to Ramo's
romantic life. Now Rick Pettino, Wow, let let him vent.
He's got a vent a little bit, Isaac, I don't
think this is any deal. They were. Look, they it's
not any deal. It's big deal. There no deal. F
(38:22):
eight that gather will take it out of the podcast.
No deal, Isaac, Um I they look they were on
the same coaching staff together. They're friends, They've always been friends.
There's nothing to this, although maybe a little bit competitive
edge though how to guard Kauai. I'm telling you that
whole city of San Antonio begrudgingly wants Golden State to
win it. So this will just add flavor that Greg
Popovitch is giving intel on Kauai. I think that there's
(38:46):
that sort of angle to this. And by the way,
we also have audio of Popovitch's reaction when he found
out that the restaurant was out of bottles of the
nineteen sixty six domain de la Romani conti Montrachet, very disappointing.
Instead of a two thousand dollar bottle of wine, he
had to go and he goes, do you have a
(39:08):
bottle of I love it? I love it. The set
up to the actual punchline audio was longer than the
actual punchline audio. Screw. That's a very effective broadcasting tactic there.
Ramos now on a similar subject during the clinching game
of the Eastern Conference Finals, in which the Raptors, well
(39:31):
they I don't want to rub it into buy, but
you know, the Raptors did their thing. Kawhi Leonard's sister
did an Instagram live and in the background, I'll play
it for you. In the background, you can hear a
voice off camera saying, quote they know darn well he
ain't going to be there next year. Listen closely to
(39:52):
the background. Oh we love you too from the Philippines,
Gracy Let's yes, so social Philippines. Yeah. By the way,
who in the Philippines is watching Kawhi? Leonards sisters was
snapchat or to show you how big excuse me, Belichick.
It shows you how big the NBA is in the Philippines,
(40:15):
or maybe how big leonard sisters Instagram is in the Philippines.
Now for the record, After social media went crazy, his
sister was asked on Instagram if that was Leonard's uncle
who said that in the background, and she responded, no,
he's not even in California, y'all. I was watching the
game and it was raptors haters there, so when I
went live, they said what they said, haters gonna hate.
(40:38):
Of course, when I'm a fan of one team, I
always intentionally watched games around fans of the other team
my team. But because a big deal, little deal or
no deal, I think this is a big deal because
I go back and forth and whether he's gonna stay
or go, and uh, there's another there's a little tidbit
sliding in. I'm gonna say it's a big deal. I
think it's a little deal. Um, because eybody knows he's
(41:00):
gone anyways, So this can't be surprised at the end
of it. If you're a Raptors fan and you're surprised
that he leaves at the end of the year, then
you're an idiot. This is game time on The Duck
got Leap Show. All right, Dan, three more hours? Are
you ready for? Three more hours? And I sure am?
What about Ramos or Stamos? Are you ready for You're
(41:24):
on Fox. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug got Leap Show weekdays at noon Eastern three pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
And John Ramos is hanging out as well. On this
Memorial Day where we hope you are very safe whether
you're stay at home or traveling, and also take time
out to remember those who give the ultimate sacrifice to
(41:45):
provide us for what we have today. He is Jonas Knox.
I am Dan Buyer. That is John Ramos. Get us
on Twitter. I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox. That's pretty easy.
You are at Jonas at the Jonas Knox and John
Ramos the Twitter handle where people want to get you
social media special for today at Knox jow is that
(42:05):
j A Y or just j correct k n A
x j A right, so Jax, all right, all right,
well that's that may be fitting because in thirty we
have a we have a brand new game that's coming
here to Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, we had Jonas reveal
(42:28):
Stamos Aramos. Right, there is it in which John is
it Stamos Aramos. Now, the research was a little bit
more difficult than I expected it to be because, um,
John doesn't know a whole lot about himself. I thought
that out during the so so we're still piecing it
together behind the scenes. Jonas esks John, what is your
first job? John goes on to describe the work of
(42:51):
an accountants and it says, I don't know what you
would call that. I don't know you would call that.
I don't know. The fifteen year old a countant says
we got five thousand dollars back to taxes. Doesn't seem right,
But I'm gonna trust the kid. I asked you, and
I'm like, what's your uncle's name. Oh jeez, I'm not
(43:12):
asking your thoughts on global warming? What is this? Did
you ask favorite uncle or just like and uncle like
didn't know. We'd have an easier time getting an answer
from John Stamos and oh god or Ramos, however you
(43:33):
want to call it. Today's Doug Gottlieb Show is brought
to you by Farmers. At Farmers, we've seen almost everything,
so we know how to cover almost anything when it's
game time. Have an experienced player to help you stay
ahead of the game, but their experience into play at
Farmers dot Com Farmers. So it is the Raptors and
Warriors in the NBA Finals. But news came out within
the last twenty four hours about Kawai Leonard and it's
(43:55):
not new news, but it's maybe just more news than
we had about an old story. And it always it
all goes back to the quad injury that Kauai Leonard
had when he was a member of the San Antonio Spurs,
which was the main point of contention between Kauai's camp
and the Spurs organization, which ended up having Kauai leave
(44:15):
the organization when he was traded to the Toronto Raptors.
His uncle, Dennis Robertson spoke with Chris Haines, friend of
the network here from the Yahoo Sports in saying and
talking about the experience of of going to the NBA
Finals and and being excited. The issue, though, came back
to the quad injury that he had in San Antonio,
and Robertson said this to Yahoo Sports. I think it
(44:37):
just became a lack of trust. They didn't believe Kauai
couldn't play, and that caused the lack of trust in us,
and then us not believing in them. Any time a
player says he's not capable of playing, you should believe him.
Why would Kauai just stop playing all of a sudden,
He's a competitor. Went on and on and saying that
the because the Spurs didn't believe him, the relationship couldn't recover,
(44:58):
and the Kauai camp just stided to move on. So
this story is now popped up again, which was a
little surprising. We talked with Rick Caambla earlier, Jonas, because
I had kind of thought for as much of the
load management that you had during the season, because this
run has been so good, and because Kauai has been
so good, and because he seemingly also playing through a
leg injury, that maybe this stuff was in the past.
(45:19):
I was surprised that this was brought up now by
his uncle on the eve of the NBA Finals. We
only got the Spurs side of it while it was happening.
We heard from his uncle a little bit, but kau
I never really spoke on it because he doesn't really
speak on anything, And so we only got the Spurs
side of it at the time, and all we got
was Popovitch. All we got was Tony Parker taking shots
(45:40):
at him former teammates. But look, I can remember Stephen Jackson,
who was a teammate and and knows all those guys
who was on Fox Sports Radio saying, look, don't doubt Kauai,
like this isn't just you know, the Spurs have done
him wrong. The Spurs have done him wrong. And you
and I were on the same page to where I thought,
hold on a second, everybody's adding with people that are
(46:01):
signing with Kawhi Leonard. When of the Spurs ever just
blatantly screwed something up. It's a well run organization, class personified.
Why would they all of a sudden do this And
now the more you find out about it, and the
more that stuff starts to come out after the fact,
you realized, look, this was this was heavy on the
side of the San Antonio Spurs, and it now starts
to make a little more sense as to why Kawai
(46:21):
and his family felt like the bridges burned. Earlier on
the show, we were jumped by Rick Campbell of NBA TV.
He told us this bit of information that may be
intriguing to those who haven't heard it before. I've always
sort of been like with the with the san Antonio camp,
with this with the great Popovitch camp, until I got
some into a couple of months ago from a Hall
of famer who and so he said, the San Antonio
(46:44):
Spurs misdiagnosed to the injury to Kawhi Leonard, and I said,
you're wrong. There's no way that happened. There's just no
possible way of first class organization like san Antonio would
do that. He grabbed me by the shoulders, not violently,
but just to it looked right, and he said, I'm
not lying. I got it straight from the from the
(47:04):
Winner camp I believe it. And this this Hall of
Famer was so convincing. I'm like, damn, maybe they did
misdiagnosis life. That was surprising to me because to your
point of everything that the Spurs seemed to do always
seemed to be the right way, and I just thought
it was Kauai was was angry about something and then
just ended up being stubborn. Now you hear his uncle
(47:26):
say what he did say, and it seemed to just
break the trust immediately, and so once you once you've
crossed that bridge, there was no way of going back.
And then it was mentioned in the Chris Haynes article
as well that the only leaks that seemed to be
coming out were from the Spurs side. You mentioned that
the players also speaking out as well. Yeah, it's hearing
(47:50):
this side of things now and having kaua I tell
the story. I agree with Rick who went on to
say it's the perfect time for them to tell the
story because right now all is good with Kauai and
really the Spurs don't have the platform to say anything.
So I whatever happened is in the past. I was
surprised that it has come up, but I'm now even
more surprised that this seemed to be more of a
san Antonio spurs thing, uh than we had originally. It's
(48:12):
gotta be a helpless feeling. Um. You you tend to
go towards the things that you're good at in life. Um.
If you're good at something, you tend to do it more.
You're good with your words, Thus you're in radio, Dan,
you're good at broadcasting. Thus you're still working at Fox
Sports Radio. Kawhi. Leonard doesn't talk because he's probably not
the best communicator. Maybe he's not the best of his words.
Maybe he feels uncomfortable. Imagine how helpless he must feel
(48:35):
when the only way he can defend himself publicly is
by using his words, and he can't because he's not
good at it, and he's got his team that he
thinks drafted or traded form on draft Day loves him,
is spinning a different narrative about him that's not true,
and he can't defend it because it's just not his
thing to go back and forth verbally. So the only
thing he can do is say, I guess I just
(48:57):
got to get out of here, like this just isn't
working for me. I feel I feel bad for the
guy in this regard. He's not a communicator. Not a
guy who likes to communicate a lot. He doesn't like
going to the media with certain things he does bust
his ask. There was zero drama with him off the
court or anything in San Antonio. The only drama that
was ever brought up about him was whether or not
(49:18):
he was dogging an injury. And if you're an athlete
and someone tells you that you're being fake about an injury,
that's gotta be frustrating. Man. I I get I now
sort of have a different perspective on it, and I
get why they feel the way that they do. He
was also put in a tough spot for a couple
of reasons. We talked about it earlier, but I just
remember the ankle injury in Game one of the Western
(49:38):
Conference Finals. He goes out after landing on Zaz. Opportunity
in the series is over with, and you're saying, wow,
what could have been? Because they were up twenty five
points in that game. When you look at the injury,
I was like, Okay, when did the quad injury happen?
But the other points that were against him were not
only were Tony Parker Tony Parker dealing with a similar
injury that now you had one to compare to. You're
(50:00):
Tony Parker and Monta Genoble in the sunset of their careers,
So that season that he misses is a big deal
to them because that's it, Like it ended up being
Parker's last season in San Antonio, Genoble's last season period.
So when you see that happening and you see a
guy who is like Monta Genoblue has been with the
organization and it's like, all right, I'm gonna give it
(50:22):
one more go, and this is gonna be my season,
and all of a sudden, the star player that you
think is going to be there is looking out for himself. Yeah,
as a player, you can relate, but you're also saying,
I just went all in. So like those circumstances were
against Kawai Leonard as well, because there are very few
teams that have veteran leadership that is more powerful than
(50:45):
the star player. San Antonio is one of the only
few places where because Genoble and Parker had the hardware
they did, I mean, they won titles before kau I
was there. So are you look at that situation as
well as now those guys are coming over the top,
Because usually the star players the one who gets the
words in that situation. For Kauai, it wasn't beneficial in
San Antonio. That made the situation even more difficult. And
(51:05):
I think a lot of people look at what happened
with Isaiah Thomas in Boston and they go, there's a
guy who did play through an injury that he probably
shouldn't have, and look what happened to his career. I
mean so, so maybe Kauai and his people were like, listen,
we don't why why run the risk? We know something's wrong,
And and you're telling us that we can come back
and play, and then you're going publicly and speaking about it.
(51:25):
I'd love to know and and and when it happened.
I thought maybe a little bit of it. But I'd
love to know if them deciding to move on from
Tony Parker was their last ditch effort to tell Kauai, hey,
no more drama here anymore. Uh, look, you know he's gone.
What do you say you want to try this again?
I'd I'd love to know how the final days in
(51:45):
San Antonio went. Was it just no communication whatsoever? Was
there no effort to keep him around? I thought that
they had me, didn't he and Popovich meet. I thought
at some point where then he also reiterated his desire
to end up leaving after the season, and did I
thought that there there was a meeting I could be
or they tried to meet up or something like that.
I thought there was San Diego or something like that.
(52:06):
I thought there was at least some communication that that
said as much. But but then once you're once you're burned,
or once you feel that way, Yeah, it's tough to
it's tough to trust again. But I think that the
the situation was awkward, and I find it interesting now
because I know that they want to get out their
story and and maybe it's working because you and I
(52:27):
were on the spur side of things, and now we
hear a little bit more and more and we're hearing
from different sources. But I had kind of forgotten about
all of that. I was more concerned about Kauai's free
agency than of him leaving San Antonio. That was in
the past. This is kind of bringing up the old
relationship again. Um is there Here's And I was thinking
about this over the weekend. When you just think about
(52:47):
Kawhi Leonard and what he is, he's a perfect San
Antonio Spur like perfect, Like they're gonna look back on
this and at some point, whether they want to do
it publicly or whether local shows are doing it in
San Antonio or and are doing it, they're gonna look
back on this and go, how do we screw that up? Like? Like,
he's a perfect Like when you see a wide receiver
in the draft who's five eight and white, what do
(53:08):
you say that guy is gonna be a patriot? You know?
When you when you see a European uh be drafted
in the NBA, what are you assuming? All right, Well,
he's probably gonna be a member of the Utah Jazz
within the next three years. Like there's certain things that
just sort of match and and make sense. Kawhi Leonard
is a Spur. He's a perfect Spur. He doesn't talk,
he's not about it. It's not it's not his thing.
(53:30):
He doesn't like the communicating all the other stuff to
go along with it. And somehow the San Antonio Spurs,
who have who are as well run of an organization
as you can find in sports, butchered this, allegedly according
to a Quai side. And now they're they're sitting back
and they're watching him in the finals and the Spurs
getting getting zero credit, near zero credit for the development
(53:51):
of him as a player to become the type of
player that now some are considering the best in the NBA.
But who do you think feels worse right now, DeMar
de Rosen or George Hill. It's it's Derosan Like I
I have no idea who in the world DeMar de
Rosen wants to win this NBA finals because George Hill
was traded for Kauahi Leonard and then I was thinking
(54:13):
about that when the Bucks were playing the Rafters, like, man,
this is gonna be the George Hill revenge series. And
then after two games it wasn't really George Hill showed up.
He did. He at least been in the finals, so
so he had finals appearances with with the Calves. Like
DeMar de Rosen is you can't win, Like you can't
shake that anymore. Like a guy you know, you broke
(54:35):
up with his girlfriend and all of a sudden, now
she's dating Prince Harry. I guess married the Prince And
they always say that Megan Markle's X, like yeah, good
luck doing better than me. Well, look, Prince Harry That's
where DeMar de Rosen is right now. Why why doesn't
Larry Bird get any heat for trading Kawhi Leonard on
draft day? What the eight? What I will say this,
(54:58):
if you traded Kawai to any of the other twenty
eight teams in the league, or if he stayed in Indiana,
I don't think he's the player that he is now.
Like so I know I'm not answering your question. Plus,
George Joe was somewhat decent. Yeah, but at the time,
at the time, like I remember kauaiet San Diego State,
they played in the regional down in Anaheim in Tleven
and in that series you had you had Kyrie Irving
(55:22):
played for Duke. You had Kemba Walker played for Yukon.
You had Derrick Williams, who ended up being the number
two of her all pick playing in Arizona. You also
had Jeremy Lamber was a freshman at Yukon. Kyrie was
good for San Diego State. But like those were the
names that you were talking about there. So even the
thought of him, even though he was a mid first
round pick, how don't think anybody thought, you know, you
(55:43):
would get this? And I tipped the Spurs. Tip of
the cap to the Spurs for developing Kauai. He's Dan Buyer.
I'm Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottliep here on Fox
Sport Trading. You can get Dan on Twitter at Dan
Buyer on Fox. Coming up next, we are going to
go to the scene of what is going to be
a first in the history of sports. All right, so
(56:05):
we are going to get for the first time ever.
We're going to witness something this weekend sports and we're
going to the scene of the crime that's next year

At Farmers Insurance, we know the sound of a perfect
hot air balloon landing and a Leston perfect one. Dr Farmers,
we are Farmers underwritten. My Farmers took Fire Insurance Exchanges
that affiliates products un available in every state. Is Jonas Knocks.
I'm Dan Buyer. John Ramos is here as well. We're
gonna put Isaac Lowen Crown in the hot seats. In
(56:45):
about thirteen minutes or so, diving into the new game.
Stamos or Ramos here on Fox Sports Radio. You can
find this on Twitter. I met Dan Buyer on Fox.
Let's let's try it again, Jonas. If people want to
reach you on Twitter, it would be at at J. S.
Ramos zero say okay and John Ramos your Twitter handle
is it's special for today? Uh? And I think it's
(57:08):
it's about time it's been this change to new It's
at J. S. Knox zero to ten zero ten, not
one zero one, not at all. We were we were
so desperate for a segment idea that we changed the
pronunciation of John Ramos's last name to Ramos just so,
(57:29):
just so it ryan with Stamos. That's that's how you
get stuff done. That's how you get stuff done. The
Raptors have been getting stuff done in the Eastern Conference playoffs,
and now they find themselves in the NBA Finals joining
us now he's the Raptors. Radio play play man Paul
Jones joins us here on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Paul,
thanks so much for coming on. I know it's a
busy time, but we appreciate it. Uh. And and I
(57:51):
can tell you guys are skilled right away because if
I had a dollar for every time somebody missed up.
Paul Jones joins us, and actually I couldn't know. You didn't,
you didn't. I was listening. I was listening. I always
listened to that in Let's see, Let's see this is
you know, is this one gonna be Is this one
going to be ruined? Or is it? Is it going
(58:11):
to be a clean in? And it's pretty clean in
it as a play by play guy, is there a
name that just is tough for you? I mean, we
know Antenna Kumpo is not easy for anyone, But was
there like a like a simple name that had like
double consonants that that has been difficult for you in
your history? Um? No, because I mean, like having played
(58:33):
a little bit myself and and with a brother that's
on the other network. He says, you've got to nail
the names like it's it's like a figure skater man
when you come to that triple axle, like you, if
you're wavering at all, the judges are going to take
points off. So um but like Antenna Kumpo, um uh,
you know, we get a lot of international players and
(58:55):
and and the one that the one that I kind
of take pride in when everybody was called or calling
him Verision. We had a Brazilian guy in our team,
Hafe Arugo, and Halfa said they're saying his name wrong.
I said, well, how do you say his name? He said,
it's not Verisian, it's Barragell. I'm like, are you sure?
He's like yeah. I said, okay, Well, so when we
(59:16):
play Cleveland, I'm gonna say Barragelle and I won't get
laughed at he goes, not by the people in Brazil.
But no, you won't very very good. Paul joins radio.
Voice of the Toronto Raptors joins us here on Fox
Sports Radio. Paul, who'd you think about former Raptor that
you thought about first when the clock was winding down
and you finally got to the finals? I thought about
(59:36):
two of them. I thought about DeMar Derozen because he
had he he wanted to be in Toronto. He had
given everything to this city. And when other free agents
took the money once and then left, he took the
money twice. In the second time, he took less money
than he could have. He took less than a max
(59:57):
deal to stay here. And when the col Angelo regime
drafted him here. They said, oh, you know, we got
this great kid from USC you know, we're gonna make
him an All Star and you kind of you kind
of roll your eyes and go, yeah, everybody says that
about their first round pick. And every summer a guy
comes back fifteen pounds, heavier, stronger, with a better jump shot,
like yeah, yeah, yeah, right, right right, And they did well.
(01:00:19):
I mean we watched the kid grow up here in
nine years and become an All Star. And he said,
I was here for twenty two and sixty. I was
here for the losing. I want to be here for
the winning. And he had under Dwayne Casey had you know,
five winning seasons and he was one of the guys.
And you know, Dwayne Casey was another guy. And Jonas
Valanciunas was probably the third um big Lithuanian community here
(01:00:44):
in Toronto, and u j V was He was great
in the community. I mean he's he's the kind of
kid that the the training staff, the strength and conditioning
coaches would say before the game, Okay, can you stop
shaking everybody's hand and play like the freaking mayor of
Toronto and kept warming up. So those were the three
(01:01:05):
that probably came to mind. Um. But at the same time,
all the people that that really were disheartened by the
trade and didn't really know Kauai Leonard as a basketball player. Uh,
and we're complaining about load management. And I was saying, so,
how's that game working against you know, the Atlanta Hawks
on a Wednesday night in February that Kauai mrs in
(01:01:27):
Europe set like, do you see why they're doing that? Now?
Do you get it now? And for all those people
that that really didn't like the trade, and and for
for all the right personal reasons, guys, all the right
personal reasons. A guy that love Toronto wanted to be here,
was trumpeting the cause. Took less money. Um, you know,
had was great in the community tomorrow with with with
(01:01:50):
the kids, and he ran he ran a camp, um
you know, at at an area that was one of
the most impoplished areas in North America. Like that, like
that kind of stuff pulls at heart strings and people
were sad to see him go. But now they're in
the finals. I think they're they're okay with that. Paul
Jones joins us here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knocks.
(01:02:11):
I'm Dan Buyer sitting in for Doug Gottlieb. How did
the Raptors carve out their place in the Toronto sports
landscape Here in the States, we we obviously know about
the blue Jay success, but that was twenty five years ago.
We remember the couple of World Series. It was a
long time ago. And I think there's a there's just
the thought of it's just a maple leafs town and
that's what it is. How do how do the Raptors
(01:02:33):
make their place in that landscape? It is? It is,
It is still a maple leafs town. But basketball is
on the rise. And people laughed at me in two
thousand when I said that one day might not be
in my lifetime, basketball is gonna be bigger than hockey.
They thought they were gonna they were gonna string me
up and stone me like that sacrilege. And I mean
that the multicultural nature of Toronto, UM and all the
(01:02:56):
different you know, the different nationalities and ethnic groups here
or um. You know, Toronto's world class and they love
their basketball. And what's happened is the team playing well
combined with um that that demographic that that you know,
that that urban representation that that you know, national different nationalities,
(01:03:19):
and their representation throughout the Raptors fan base has helped
people say, wow, this is pretty good. And here's my analogy. Guys,
if you weren't a golf fan in like seven or
but you were kind of a sports fan or just
following the world in general, you'd probably say, who is
this guy Tiger Woods. He's turning the place on its ear.
(01:03:41):
Maybe I should pay attention. And that's what's happening in
Toronto now. The casual fan and you guys said it
the same way that Blue Jays did back in you know,
from seven to about ninety three, the same way the
Blue Jays did. By winning, people are starting to get
on board and say, hey, you know what everybody's talking
about this the water cooler at work. I might want
(01:04:02):
to know what's going on here. I better watch a game.
And then you watch a game and you get hooked,
and you know, the the hook gets in your mouth
and you're you're never leaving the NBA. He is Paul Jones,
the voice of the Toronto Raptors, with us here on
Fox Sports Radio. Damn Buyer, Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb.
What's the feeling there in Toronto about the likelihood of
Kauai is sticking around after this season. It's it's just
(01:04:24):
getting stronger and stronger. And and uh, you know, Kauais
he comes across and he and he is a kind
of a an old school The guy just wants to hoop.
He wants the ball. He doesn't he doesn't necessarily want
or crave the spotlight. He just and and I'll tell
you this, as Canadians, people leave him alone. I mean,
(01:04:48):
you know, it's not like they're not going to see
him out in the street and ask for an autograph
or a picture or whatever. But he's not going to
be constantly accosted. And I think he can, you know,
in a relative sense, have his privacy up here. And
he's got a whole country behind him. There are people
in the far reaches of this country that now have
(01:05:08):
become basketball fans and are watching Kawhi Leonard and when
and when he was traded here and those of us
in the know from the basketball world kind of fainted
with our jaws open, saying, oh my god, they got
a top three player in the league. People some people
have no idea. And as I said before, now they
get it and and everybody. I mean there's guys they
have promotions on up here in Canada, things called kaw
(01:05:32):
wine and Dine, where he's he's being offered three food
to to any restaurant. They there's one guy that's ready
to get him like a penthouse apartment. Like it's it's
it's gone crazy now that people have seen how good
he is and what he means to a team. Um,
you know everybody's I mean, I had one guy on
(01:05:52):
Twitter say, we've got a local department store here at
the Bay. It's akin to a you know, a J C.
Penny or you know Niemon Marker says, so some you know,
big department store in the US. Some guy went in
and said, I saw Kauai. He was buying something at
the Bay and he got a rewards card. You know,
like they're just looking for anything that says he's gonna stay.
(01:06:13):
And the one guy replied on Twitter, We'll tell him
it takes a long time to get points, but I'll
give him all my points. Uh, sticking around for that
fiftent discounts or that free gift on your birthday first
of all, or I should wrap up with this. I
think of the first guest, Paul, is that a double
underscore in the Twitter handle? When you have a name
like Paul Jones, you gotta yeah, you can't be Paul
(01:06:38):
Jones one two, So this makes it a lot easier.
Paul double underscore Jones, Raptors play by play voice, Thanks
so much of the time. Okay, congratulations to you. It
should be fun on Thursday and through the NBA Finals.
I know it's broadcasters. It's always neat when you get
this opportunity. So I know you weren't on the court,
but congratulations and have the call of your life this
(01:07:00):
these next couple of weeks. I'm going to tell you
I called the very first game when the Raptor busted
out of the egg November, Eddie Pinkney jump center for
Toronto against Kadi New Jersey Nets. So I've been here
a long time. I've been here a long time. It's
it's nice to be it's nice to still be dancing.
In June. I forgot the Raptor came out of the egg.
(01:07:21):
I forgot about that. Oh that's awesome. I forgot about right.
And Ed Pinckney. I remember Ed Pinkney. Yes, good times
and those those those throwbacks some point. At some point, guys,
we're gonna get together and we're going to trade stories
and Manda things. I can tell you. I appreciate it.
We'll do it again soon. Thanks so much. And again
(01:07:42):
I have great calls during the finals. Alright, great Dan Buyer,
Jonas Knox in for Doug gott Leave here on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, coming up next. It is the
first time that this game has ever been played. I'd
never been done before on sports radio. And the reason
we know that is because nobody's dumb enough to think
of this except for us. All Right, So it is
a special edition, not even it's just a special segment.
(01:08:05):
Stick around if you want. That's coming up next year
on Fox Sports Radio Sports Radio History. But right now,
Isaac with the latest, Jonas, you're literally interrupting me watching
a video clip of the Raptor coming out of the edge. Yeah,
really interesting. Perhaps will describe it in greater detail later.
(01:08:25):
Speaking of the NBA, guys, were actually gonna begin with
an NBA item that just came down moments ago. This
from Mark Medina, who covers the Golden State Warriors from
the San Jose Mercury News. He said, at practice moments ago,
see Curse said that the Warriors have not yet decided
if Kevin Durant will travel to Toronto for the first
two games of the NBA Finals. That again just tweeted
by Mark Medina, who covers the Warriors for the San
(01:08:47):
Jose Mercury News. In baseball, twenty two year Major League
veteran Bill Buckner passed away today at the age of
sixty nine after a battle with Louis body dementia. Buckner
won the National League batting title with the Cubs in
at three four and then was a National League All
Star of the following season. He also played, of course,
for the Red Sox, as well as the Dodgers, Angels
(01:09:09):
and Kansas City Royals. On the scoreboard, the Yankees victorious
over the Padres five to two, hitting three home runs
in the process, including this two run home run by
Brett Gardner. Footnote wait for it when you listen to
this and GUARDI drills run a deep right, it is
high and U is far. He is gone. Second deck.
(01:09:31):
Let the GUARDI party begin. Grett Gardner is a two
run shot in the second deck, and right GUARDI goes
Yardie and the Yankees set of three to leave. Oh
my god, he's he's milking that for all it's worth. Man,
How could Brett Gardner not be mowing the lawn ranking
(01:09:56):
leader and it's a gardener. But you get the point that.
Of course, the one and only jam Master John Sterling
with the call on w f A N and again.
Two other finals from Major League Baseball, The Marlins over
the Nationals three two, Orioles defeat the Tigers five to
three tonight at eight Eastern. Game one of the Stanley

Cup Final is the Boston Bruins host the St. Louis Blues.
Back to Jonas Knocks and Dan Buyer sitting in for
Doug Gottlieb in ten seconds, but first to work from Farmers.
That Farmers insurance. We know every windshield collision has a
unique sound. Beetle bird poop, drone seen it covered it,
dr Farmers, We are farmers under written my Farmers truck
(01:10:38):
Fire Insurance exchange and affiliates unavailable in every state. It
is the Gottlieb Show at Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knocks,
I'm Dan Buyer. That is John Rama sitting in for
Doug today. You also have seen the egg hatching video. Yeah,
it's um, not as cool as I remembered. Do you
guys remember when they played on Easter and they tried
to die the egg? So they have this enormous swimming
(01:10:59):
pool and just dipped it in at this with the pause.
The pause has got the marketplace like there is cyclin
X Yeah, like Pa, there it is. The Egg was
quite a video. I didn't even realize that they did
that until Paul Jones brought it up. Yeah, not as
(01:11:21):
cool as I remembered. I was gonna say we should
try to guess some of the lineups from that game
when he said, but then I just saw it in
your videos, so that would be wrong. Let's do something
else instead our five? All right, um, all right? Are
you ready for for something that? The more I'm thinking
about it, the more I realize it's probably not the
greatest idea. I know. We're We're ready? Is Isaac blowing? Karen? Right? Isaac?
(01:11:44):
Are you ready for this? I'm actually not ready because
I've continued to watch more of the Raptors inaugural game
video against the New Jersey Nets, and before they tip off,
they do the usual panning of celebrities in the front
row at the sky Dome and instead of being Drake
in the front rows celebrities Sara mcla, Cathy Ireland, and
(01:12:06):
David Hasselhof. Alright, Mike from Lover Boy for a lot
of more set or come on, man, that couldn't do
better than that? By the way, John Tobak, the starting
center for the Raptors and Center was spelled c E
N t r E on the TV graphics. Nice. At
(01:12:27):
least I didn't put left wing Elvin robertson. Can we
get Tobak to the segment here? Let's do it all
right here? It is Stamos or Ramos. Basically, you're just
throwing up things to Isaac and he's got to determine
if it's John Stamos or John Ramos or Ramos for
the sake of this. Thankfully, Ramos posts so much about
(01:12:49):
his life on Facebook that I think I have a
fighting chance here. All right, all right, you ready for this, Isaac,
We'll find out, go for it. His middle name is Philip,
John Ramos, Ramos, Mercy, No, it is John Stamos, John Stamos.
(01:13:10):
John Ramos middle name is Miles, named after Miles Turner
the Indiana Pacers. Mr Jmr. Remember that there it is
when John signs the co account that he has with Suzanne.
When it's his post he'll write jams like we can't
tell who's posting one. I don't know who's posting on.
(01:13:31):
Wait a minute. He also signs his work emails sometimes, jmr.
I really should have known that. Yeah, he's a blowhard
Have Mercy who recently put up there Beverly Hills mansion
for sale at the price TAGA six point seven five
million dollars. Well, because it's a Beverly Hills mansion and
not a South Pasadena mansion, I'm gonna go with John Stamos. Yes,
(01:13:53):
that is Stamos. Whatever happened to predictability? Well, it's good
to see. We've got a lot of a lot of
drops to the John Stamos. Everything's happening? Is that like
three have Mercies in a row? Yes, three in row?
There we go, all right, Isaac. Next up on Stamos
Ramos met his wife at a corn dog stand? Is
(01:14:14):
that Stamos Ramos Not to get personal, but which wife?
There are three wives here? Actually, well, I don't think
we need to shame the guy's married. I didn't say that.
I was just trying to clarify. I'm gonna guess, you know,
I'm gonna guess John Ramos Ramos that is correct? At
this Isaac corn Dogs so fast, but I couldn't picture
(01:14:39):
Rebecca Romains strolling around at the l A County Fair
at the corn dogs. All right, Ramos or Stamos had
an affair with this woman that his wife still doesn't
know about. No, I'm just kidding, kidding, Suzanne, I am kidding.
I am joking. I am joking. Delate that from the
(01:15:01):
podcast Hotline Ringing in thirty five seconds, it will be
uh okay Stamos or Ramos who worked for his father's
restaurant growing up. You know what, Oh man, I'm actually
gonna guess before he became an actor. I'm actually gonna
(01:15:22):
guess John Stamos before we landed General Hospital. Is a lot,
a lot of thought went into the draft. Tied together
with John Stamos here, I think it was one twelve
Pacific time. We're like, doesn't he say have mercy? All right?
We had to do it after John's lunch it Stamos
(01:15:45):
a Ramos last one for me, Isaaci. Ready, here we
go left a co worker's funeral early. Jeez, I'm gonna
say I actually think I know which coworker it was.
I'm gonna say John Ramos. But he probably had a
good reason. Oh yeah, great, you had a good reason.
(01:16:06):
Softball game. That's not a good reason. Never mind, I've
got five more. No, I'm just kidding. Who coached their
soccer team to a winless season one year? Well, like
I said, just because he posts about it on Facebook,
I'm gonna guesst John Ramos Ramo. Yes it was Ramos.
(01:16:31):
And actually I have one more, dame Stamos, Stamos or Ramos,
Isaac here we go doesn't produce his own work, Stamos
or Ramos. Uh, I'm gonna say John Ramos Ramos because
Stamos is like a co producer in the Fuller House,
(01:16:51):
isn't it. Yeah? That is that is correct. And the
John Ramo show, the actual John Ramos does none of it.
John Ramos the mind there. It is. Good job, Isaac.
All right, thank you, and I'll just duck in. Since
the report a few moments ago, Steve Kerr went on
to confirm that Kevin Durant is out for Game one
(01:17:13):
of the NBA Finals. Not not a shock, but he
just did confirm that. There it is. That's the final word.
I wouldn't even travels with your customs and all that
social media to go to Canada. It's just a headache.
Gives him more time to post angry uh comments on
social media. Oh my god, Isaac coming out with the
(01:17:34):
ball bats today? Jesus all right? Uh? Dan Buyer Jonas
snock in for Doug gott Leap here on Fox Sports Radio.
We're trying to get out earlier. But I doesn't care
about the clock at all. Week about the flock. Isaac
doesn't alright? Coming up next, has Kauai Leonard proved himself
to be the best player in the NBA? We will
answer that next year on FSR. Be sure to catch
(01:17:55):
live editions so the Doug dot Leap Show week days
at noon eastern three pm Pacific. Farmer's Insurance we know
the sound of a perfect hot air balloon landing and
a lesson perfect one covered farmers. We are farmers underwritten
my farmers truck fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products unavailable
every state. I'm Dan Bier, that's Johonna Knocks. John Ramos
(01:18:17):
is here as well. Where have all the cowboys gone
is the question not to the playoffs? Thanks super Bowl
fifty four, there will be a lot of cowboys predictions.
Maybe right now with NFL magazine starting to make their
way to the supermarkets, you're gonna see a lot of
(01:18:37):
cowboys in the Super Bowl in those predictions. Can you
imagine somebody thinking this song is good? You still remember it?
So something had to work. I mean, like the part
like you go do the dishes, Oh, go have a beer? Like,
(01:19:01):
what the hell? What are you talking about? They're they're
just eight cowboys here? Where Tony? Where are they gone?
Maybe Jason Martin knows where they've gone? What does that's
(01:19:23):
all right? I thought maybe it was next on Bare
Bones Production. Just because Doug's not here doesn't mean we're
not going to hear something insightful or interesting from Fox
Sports One or Fox Sports Radio and Jason Martin hosting
the overnight shows on the weekends here on Fox Sports Radio.
That Jason Martin Show had this to say about Kawhi
Leonard status is one of the best in the NBA.
(01:19:45):
This is why I'm gonna tell you I think Kawhi
Leonard is the best player in the NBA today. I
don't think Kevin Durant in the place of Kawuhi Leonard
on that Toronto team has them in the NBA Finals
right now. I don't think James Harden with all the
rest of those Toronto Raptors standing around, I don't think
they're in the NBA finals. Put Dane Lillard in Kauai spot,
not in the NBA finals. Put Steph Curry in that spot,
(01:20:08):
not in the NBA Finals. That's why Kauhi Leonard is
the best player in the NBA. He's at least a
top three defender in the league, and he's an outstanding
offensive player and one that is not going to shy
away from the moment. When you can trust the captain
of your ship, you will do your job better. And
(01:20:29):
that's the difference in this year's Raptors compared to last
year's Raptors. Here's my issue with the Kawuahi Leonard crowning.
And I agree with him that he's the top three
he said defender. I think he's a top three player
in the NBA, but we don't seem to include him
in the conversation. Into all of a sudden, we're like,
oh my gosh, there he is he's the best. Like
(01:20:50):
this happened a couple of years ago when we were
trying to figure out who the m v P was.
Kauai goes off for sixty with the Spurs, and all
of a sudden, we're saying it's Kauai Leonard when we
have talked about it for four months. Maybe that's our fault,
but I just don't think that this direct ascension to
the top spot for what you have done over the
last six weeks is reason enough to put you in
(01:21:11):
the top. I look, I wasn't totally convinced until what
I saw a few months back, but um, Tom Brady's
a good quarterback then listen it. I was just blown
away by that performance. Everybody like Kawhi Leonard has always
been good like and he's continue to get better. I
I disagree if Kevin Durance on this team, I think
(01:21:32):
they could get to the finals. Like I think, I
still think Kevin Durance a better player. But yeah, it's
almost like people did just kind of forget about Kawhi Leonard.
It's like, yeah, believe it or not, there's more than
Lebron in the NBA news slashed everybody. That's been my
issue and we can wrap it up. Johnny if you
want is that is John on the phone. I'm sorry
the Bucks aren't beaten by Kawhi Leonard. It is not
(01:21:56):
going to happen. They needed Marcusol to start hitting some
shots just to be a threat from the outside. Just
for Milwaukee to guard it. They needed Fred van Fleet
as we talked about. Yes, they already go seven of
nine for three to two in Game one to be competitive.
It wasn't just a one man show. It has Kauai
(01:22:16):
has been magnificent. I sent a tweet about this. It
went viral, t retweets, six likes. That's been the case.
Uh so, Dan uh I just want to throw this out,
you know, OK, why not? That's next. Fox Sports Radio
has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch
(01:22:36):
all of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com
and within the I Heart Radio app search f s
R to listen live. John Robbins is here as well.
Glad that you could hang out with us on this afternoon,
on this Memorial Day. If you can, please be safe
out there, whether you're traveling, hanging out at home, maybe
you're throwing some stuff on the grill, whatever the case.
(01:22:57):
Maybe how's to take some time out to remember those
who sacrifice, made the ultimate sacrifice to provide us with
what we have here today. So let's talk about what
we've got coming up on Thursday, Game one of the
NBA Finals. Euradi is a glow and Gron mentioned it
in the update, But Kevin Durant ruled out of Game
one of the NBA Finals. Not much of a surprise
(01:23:17):
that really at all. But this has been my thing
with the Golden State Warriors and the Kevin Durant thing.
If you look at it from the Warrior set of things,
there is there is no win situation really for Kevin Durant.
We've realized throughout the playoffs. Once they ended up beating
the Rockets, I wish they would have in the Western
Conference finals. I wish the Warriors just would have ruled
(01:23:38):
him out because now you have this game. It's almost
like a a if. If they're losing, then they'll bring
him back. If they're winning, they're not going to rush it.
If they're winning, there's no way you can bring him back.
And and I don't. I don't take him to Toronto.
And if they go up and win both games in
Toronto you're not gonna see Kevin Durant maybe again in
the Golden State Warriors uniform. Well, if you're Kevin duran
(01:24:00):
In and they're winning the series, why would you come
back thinking? And I'm not even just saying from a uh, well,
apparently they don't need me from a bitter standpoint, But
at a certain point, don't you have to start thinking
about long term health? And and you're looking at a
big time money deal in the in the summer, so
if you're gonna risk injury even more like, that's another
element to all this. I think people haven't focused on enough.
(01:24:21):
This guy's got a big money contract on the table.
If he does further damage to himself, Look, he's still
gonna get paid, but maybe teams are hesitant to give
him what he wants to be pushes it even more.
I actually think total conspiracy theory. I think he hurt
himself and I think he reaggravated the injury celebrating when
they beat the Rockets. Remember that picture that went up
on Instagram where he jumped up and down. He alluded
(01:24:43):
to something during the Friday press or that he had
at shoot around, which we would love to play the
sound for you, but bouncing basketball's in the background doesn't
really work when you're driving in the car. Uh. That's
a favorite of sports talk radio hosts um But he
alluded to the fact that yeah, you know, I, um,
you know, I I kind of learned my lesson a
little bit, kind of a ha ha and and and
(01:25:04):
I heard it, and I thought, isn't it kind of
odd that the Warriors said, we're relieved that it wasn't
anything more than just a mild calf strain, and then
Steve Kerr after the series says, yeah, it's a little
worse than we thought it was. I think he might
have reaggravated at celebrating that game and nobody's talking about
it because he's sort of alluded to it. How much
could you sell it? Like the only question that I
(01:25:25):
would have is how excited could you be? Like do
you think he was? Like would he be that excited
for a second chance? Like I almost if I'm Kevin Durant,
I know it's all about being a teammate. And we
we saw the Gilbert Arena's clip this past week of
him being the worst teammate in the world about wanting
the guy ahead of him to stink on the court.
But like, if you're Kevin Durant, you know, like what's
(01:25:48):
in it for you if you're not there? Right, it's
fear of missing out. Everybody goes through it. There was
nothing I like more than when I find out my
buddies are gone for a holiday weekend like this weekend
at the lake or someplace like that and they didn't
have that great of a time. I love it. I
love it because because because we're in the coal mines, Dan,
we're working our asses off here at Fox Sports Radio,
(01:26:09):
and you guys are having a miserable time and what's
supposed to be a vacation the whole time. That stinks.
Sorry to hear that. It's terrible. God, you guys got
food poisoning because you ate bad hot dogs. That's that's
an awful thing to happen. Um, I totally it's a
natural reaction. It's totally natural for him to to be
upset or or maybe feel a little bit slighted, especially him. Like,
(01:26:30):
think about this. They're on the doorstep of the NBA Finals,
all right, getting ready to do something that's rarely done
in all of sports. And how does Kevin Durant get
prepared for the NBA Finals, fights with Chris Brussard on
social media like it just so, clearly this is bothering him,
and clearly he he is, although he can't say it publicly,
(01:26:51):
he feels what we're talking about and this was the
This is also Jonas goes back to the decision to
leave Oklahoma City, not that he made the wrong decision
because he's one two NBA titles, he is thought by
some to be the best player in the n b A.
That wasn't wrong. But what what bothers him is that
(01:27:16):
some of those people are going to be correct or
they're going to be right when they criticized his move
to say, listen, you aren't going to get the credit
that you deserved. There are some who are going to
say that these titles meanless. They're like all of those
things that you shunned and said I'm not worried about
(01:27:36):
are now coming to fruition. Whether that's our fault, is
the media or the public or the fans fault for
feeling that, I don't know. But that's what would make
me mad is when someone could come back to you
and say, see, I told you so, and and in
the long run, of money in the connections that Kevin
Durant made. Maybe that was all worth it. The move
(01:27:57):
was worth it, and I think winning two MB eight
titles makes it worth it. Maybe you don't do that
in Oklahoma City. But the point being that those people
who pointed fingers and said, yeah, I don't know, you're
not gonna get what you really think you're gonna get
that they're going to be right. That would bother me
the most. And I think that's what bothers Kevin Durant. Yeah,
And I also think it's it's got to be frustrating
because he assumed, like you build this thing up in
(01:28:18):
your mind sometimes and then when you finally get it,
it doesn't It doesn't live up to what you thought
it was going to be. It's like having a new
toy for Christmas. By the time March comes around, you're
not playing with it anymore because you're just kind of, Wow,
this is cool, but I'm over it. And you've heard
guys talk about that, whether it's Aaron Rodgers who said
sitting on the plane back from the Super Bowl finally
winning a Super Bowl Lombardi Trophy next to him and
(01:28:39):
thinking to himself, is this it I thought it would
be more. And Kevin Durant has said that publicly. After
they won the first title, it was kind of like, uh,
this is all, Like this is it? And so he's
at this point to where he's trying to figure out
ultimately what's going to make him happy. Clearly, winning two
titles haven't made him happy. Clearly being the best player
in the world hasn't made him happy. Clear Really being
(01:29:00):
the m v P of both those finals hasn't made
him happy. And so he's like on this constant search
for where's my smile at and what's gonna make me
satisfy it? And he hasn't found it yet. And if you,
if you as a basketball player, think about what he's done.
What is he thirty years old? Is he even thirty
years old yet? Kevin Durant, Yeah, yeah, so so if
he's thirty years old, but look by the time I
(01:29:22):
was thirty years old, um my claim to fame was
I worked at t g I Fridays for five years. Okay,
Kevin Durants thirty years old, he's going to have more
money than God. He's successful off the court business wise,
first ballot Hall of Famer, possibly the greatest score in
the history of basketball and still just isn't satisfied at
(01:29:45):
this point. What's gonna make him happy? Nothing? To go
down those lists, he would have to he would have
to join. You would have to join a team like
the Suns and take them from thirty ian wins or
whatever it is, or joined the team like the Knicks
and carry them all the way and do it single handedly.
(01:30:06):
Because even here's the thing, is winning a title, and
we just saw with the Raptors. I'm sorry again, Quaite
isn't doing this by himself. It is not by himself.
He may not have that superstar with him, but with
those other guys, they don't navigate the playoffs the way
that they did. He's the big guy, Drake Drake. But
look at how we look at Kauai and so if
(01:30:29):
Kevin Durant, if Kevin Durant stays in Oklahoma City in
that decision they just win one, we still look at
him as the top guy like like that there there,
it would have been different. And that's that's where I
just I don't even know if if that would have
fulfilled him. Maybe he would have thought that Russell Westbrook
was getting some of the glory from it, and that
(01:30:50):
wouldn't fulfill him. But I think looking back is maybe
not he won't go back to Oklahoma City. Obviously they've
got Paul George and other things going on. But with
that glory that could have been, I think that would
have been close to maybe enough. Not realizing what he's
got a golden State doesn't doesn't scratch and look doing
it in multiple places, I think adds another layer to
(01:31:12):
your if you want to call it greatness. Lebron's Lebron
was great, but when he did it in two different places,
that's a different conversation. So he's never gonna have the
six that Michael Jordan's has, but doing it in two
different places is just a much more difficult task. Like
I've always said, one of the more underrated coach. Like
when people talk about great coaches of all time, I
still think Bill Parcels is one of the great coaches
(01:31:34):
ever because everywhere he went, he turned into a winner.
Every place he went, whether it was the Giants or
the Cowboys or the Jets, when he went there, he
turned those franchises around, He turned those other Patriots, he
turned those organizations around. But because he doesn't have the
six Super Bowls or the three and he's got a
loss in one Super Bowl. I think people look at
it and go they kind of forget him about a
(01:31:55):
little bit. If Kevin Durant were to go to a
place like the Knicks or even the burs who had nothing,
like they've been nothing, and he gets a title there,
maybe people start to look at him differently. But it
doesn't matter what what we're saying or what people are
saying outside of him. If he continues to feel like
he's being attacked uh constantly, He's just never gonna be
(01:32:16):
happy with himself. I think there's gotta be some when
you see this. Kau I love as well that that
is a little bit's gotta get under your skin when
you're hearing it. Because Kauai Leonard forced his way out
of a situation, went to a team that he wasn't
necessarily Hugh John and ends up forming his own identity.
(01:32:38):
And now we are saying Kawhi Leonard is arguably the
best player in the NBA. Some are saying that how
long did it take Kevin Durant to even get in
the conversation to be with Lebron James and like it
took a while, and we're doing this, and I know
Kauai has been good, but Kauai's path would almost have
seemed to have been Durant's path, you know, like the
(01:33:00):
path that he would want without Durant, like the the
the negative thing that Durant did was he turned his
back on Oklahoma City but played in every game for them,
didn't sit out, whereas Kawai Leonard kind of burned a bridge.
So Kauai is almost fast track to a point as
well where Kevin Durant has to go through all these
obstacles that nobody else has to deal with except him.
(01:33:23):
That's got to bother him as well. And also the
fact that he's let it be known that you can
rattle him and you can get under his skin. Kawhi Leonard.
I mean, look, the most we've gotten out of him
was a laugh that one time, and ever since then,
it's been a sound drop on every sports radio show ever. Like,
he doesn't talk, he's not on social media, he doesn't
engage with anybody. There is no real back and forth,
(01:33:45):
so he's never gonna get the negative pushback that Kevin
Durant gets because Durants all over that stuff. Here's everything
is bothered by everything. Katino Mobile, who who we've done
shows with here Dan and Fox Sports Radio, put something
up on his Instagram at like and like was posted
at eight oh three pm talking about Kevin Durant and
(01:34:05):
the situation and why the Warriors are just a different team,
maybe not better, but different without Kevin Durant and what
they can do what he's not on the floor. Literally
at eight o four pm, Kevin Durant wrote him a
message and they had a back and forth. He hears everything,
he sees it all. Kauai doesn't give you any of that.
So if he doesn't give you any of that, you can't.
He's not going to see a lot of the negativity
(01:34:26):
that people are pushing at Kevin Durant. And you can
get Kevin Durants on Twitter at j S. Ramos, so
you can find him absolutely as Ravos zero six for
Kevin Durant. Wan, I'll let you know. Today's Dug Got

(01:35:34):
Doug today on this Memorial Day. Want to thank Sam Amock,
who joins us now senior NBA writer for The Athletic,
for joining us on this holiday getting ready for Game
one of the NBA Finals on Thursday. Hey say, I'm
going to talk to you again. How are you doing? Great? Guys?
Thanks for having me. We were just having a discussion
about Kevin Durant and his situation. Ruled out of Game one,
(01:35:55):
not a surprise at all. I understand where in the
NBA Finals. I understand what's at stake for the Golden
State Warriors organization. But I'm gonna ask you this. In
Durant's case, do the Warriors care at all about his
usage and how it could appear optics wise or is
it just strictly he can go or not go situation
(01:36:16):
in this NBA Finals? Is any of that other stuff
taken into consideration when it comes to his health and
his availability. No. I mean, I'm pretty confident based on
talking to their people and the way they're framing it
that you know, it's simply a case of can he
get out there and and be the guy that we've
all come to know and the guy that he wants
to be on the court. I think it's just simply
(01:36:37):
a case of, um, you know, two things, can he
get out there? But then also I do think the
context of the series will play a nuanced part, meaning,
you know, if they go up to nothing and he's
still having a hard time, you know, doing what he
wants to do, then I do think it's conceivable that
we don't see him in these finals. Um, if they
go down to nothing and he's then maybe that's enough
(01:37:01):
to have him say all right, let's go do this
and let me try to save the day. So I
think it's gonna be somewhat of a correlation between the
way the series is going and how he's feeling. But
I don't think the optics and and the free agency
stuff is gonna play a part. Do they need him
to beat the Raptors. I think they do. Um, you
know I've written that they do. I certainly. I mean,
(01:37:21):
you guys know the nature of the businesses. You can
be proven wrong anytime you put your opinion out there.
I mean, if they don't get him back, and if
Andrea Gudala and Draymond Green and Clay Thompson are enough
to slow down Kawai Leonard and if Kauai on the
other end, for you know, somehow, some way doesn't stimy
(01:37:42):
what the Warriors do offensively. I think to way on
Steph Curry at different times could be devastating. I think Kauai,
you know, just playing four different positions defensively against the
Warriors could be devastating. I mean, if that happens, then
maybe uh that the Warriors can pull this thing off.
I think it'll be hard because Toronto's got a bunch
of wings who are defensively capable enough to to jack
(01:38:04):
up the Warriors system. And as as much as they
played beautiful basketball against Portland's without Kevin in the conference finals,
I just think we do have to remember and this
is with you know, all due respect to the Blazers,
this is a different team. The Blazers were down a
core player and use of nurkis, and they're not nearly
as deep as Toronto, and I think the Warriors would
have a pretty tough time without Kevin beating the seam.
(01:38:26):
Sam A. Mc joining us here on Fox Sports Radio
on the Doug Gottlieb Show, senior NBA writer for The Athletic.
With all that being said, Sam, I almost have a
two point two part question. I know those are taboo
and sports, but does did this refocus this Warrior's crew?
And did this Durant injured allow for motivation that threw
up the regular season? Did did this allow for more
(01:38:48):
motivation for that core three of Draymond Stephen Clay. I
think I think that's you know, just obvious, right, Like
the way that they competed against Portland. I think that's
thing they would push back against. Any of that stuff
was was anywhere near like an anti Kevin Durant sentiment.
I think that the idea that the world thinks you're
(01:39:10):
gonna crumble because you lose a top notch guy, you know.
I think if Steph had been the one to go
down then and and Kevin would have had an opportunity
to to. You know, he was already being talked about
as the best player in the game during that stretch
where he was averaging forty plus in the playoffs. You know,
if he had a chance to lead them without stuff,
I think you'd see them be reinvigorated in a different
(01:39:30):
kind of way. Um. I also think that just in general, guys,
they had re engaged when the playoffs came around, and
really late in the Clippers series, early in the Portland series.
I'm sorry the Houston series because it's simply because it's
the playoffs. Like they are the first to admit that
they because you're talking about five years of domination, you know,
(01:39:51):
five years of playing until mid June, they get bored
during the regular season, a lot of their locker room chaos,
they will admit, was the product of kind of breathing
the same oxygen for so long. When you get in
the playoffs and now everything's on the line, you have
something to play for every single time out, it almost
makes their jobs easier. Do you think Steve Kirg gets
enough credit for the job he's done as a coach,
(01:40:13):
not just this year but in general. Um, I don't
know about enough. I mean, if you look at it historically,
he's pretty much an outlier when it comes to the
type of success he's had, but also juxtaposed with his
lack of experience that he has as a head coach,
is still a relatively inexperienced head coach in terms of
time spent on the job as a head guy. So, um,
(01:40:35):
it's just it's been a wonderful run for him. I've
told people this season, and I think Steve would probably
agree with this, that that it's a little to say this,
but this year I think he'd probably be tougher on
himself than years past when it comes to pulling the
right strings emotionally and trying to get his guy to
be the type of inclusive unit that he wants them
(01:40:57):
to be that that word joy that they throw aroun
own all the time with the Warriors in their environment,
that has not been nearly as prevalent this year as
it has been in years past. And I think he's
been frustrated. Steve has because he's had a harder time
figuring out, you know, how do how does this guy take?
How does that guy take? Probably chief among them Kevin Durant.
I think as Kevin has gotten closer to free agency,
(01:41:20):
you know, the teammates and players and coaches around him
have had tried to kind of figure out how does
this work? You know, we don't want to step on
your toes too much and give you the freedom to
think about your future, but we're trying to do something
here together, and Steve trying to massage all of that.
I think he's had a tougher time this year. Sam
amait joining us of the athletic here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer sitting in for Doug
(01:41:41):
Gottlieb today. Let's go to the other team in the
NBA Finals and the job that Nick Nurse has done,
because I'm not sure that gets enough credit considering he
replaces Dwayne Casey, who was dismissed at the end of
last year. And now all we want to talk about
is Kauai and the deal to get Kauai by missi
u Jeri. What did Nick Nurse do for this Raptors
in the season? Well, I mean listen just in that
(01:42:02):
last series alone, and it sounds basic now, but man,
that decision to put Kauai on Janna sound of the
Kompo was a game changer and that was, honestly kind
of sounds a little bit hyperbolic, but the builder, I
think for him as a coach, I mean, that move
for me is going to go down. As you know,
the first time that Nick Nurse showed his it shifted everything.
(01:42:25):
In that series. We were talking about the Bucks running
away with it after two games and then that ended
up being the kryptonite for you and we all. You know,
the rest is history. So Nick's done a wonderful job.
And you know what's funny, it's a little analogous to
the Warrior's story in this regard when the Warriors fired
Mark Jackson, a lot of people myself included, I didn't
(01:42:46):
understand their logic. I wrote a column at the time
saying Steve Kerr has no experience, accomplished a lot with
this group. I thought he deserved a long release, and
they went a different direction. Well, I was a big
advocate of Dwayne Casey's too, and Wayne did a wonderful
job Coach of the Year. And then you bring a
guy off his bench. You know that that had a
lot of respect around the coaching community, but again relatively
(01:43:09):
short resume. So Nick gets a ton of credit. I
mean Nick has connected and the rest of this group.
He's been able to keep a team that no team
in the NBA this season had to operate on dual
tracks like the Raptors did. It was basically when Kauai
was ready to go and when he wanted to rest
because of his unique physical situation, and Nick had to
(01:43:29):
manage all of that. I mean, he's done a wonderful job,
and it has a lot to do with them being
whether there at There's been a lot of discussion about
the ratings have dropped this year, why it's happening, Lebron
not being in the playoffs, start times on the West Coast,
so on, and so forth. The commissioners even talked about
it if you could do one thing, Sam to increase
ratings in the NBA playoffs, what would you do? Good question?
(01:43:54):
I mean, I have been surprised by the ratings and
to the Eastern Conference. The West has done surprisingly well,
at least when it comes to the Warriors series, and
they were pretty shocked that Warriors Blazers did well without
Duran and Steph Curry as he moved that needle. Um
I think my takeaway was that I thought mainstream America,
(01:44:15):
and I guess mainstream just kind of the basketball universe
was awake to Kauai and Janice more than they apparently are.
They're still learning about those guys because we all know
it's a superstar driven league. And I thought that matchup
was about as good as against for an Eastern Conference
finals matchup. So I don't know if it's a timing thing.
(01:44:35):
I don't know if it's a marketing thing. Um It,
it's just the post Lebron James effect, where people it
was appointment viewing for eight consecutive finals to have Lebron
representing the East, And maybe that's it. Maybe it's just
kind of you've gotta jump off that cliff and and
take you know, a year like this ratings wise, and
let it evolve and grow from here. Um, but you know,
(01:44:56):
they've got to make sure that as many people as possible.
You know how great those pre star players are. Sam
Ammick joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Same you
did a piece on the athletic with Mike D'Antoni in
the Houston Rockets. How does Houston move on from their
Western Conference semifinals defeat to the Golden State Warriors. How
do they look different moving forward without D'Antoni sticking around
(01:45:17):
a while longer? Yeah, we'll see. I mean, I'm he's
going to stick around a while longer. He certainly said
so publicly a couple of times. Now. I also know,
just based on Mike in its past history that you know,
he wants an extension and you know, and I think
that part's got to get resolved in order for him
to want to continue coaching. Um. You know, and that's
(01:45:37):
a fluid situation. It's a little uncomfortable because everybody in
that room is disappointed by the way they finished. And
so now you know, you have had changes to his
coaching staff. JEFFA. Delic, his defensive guru, was was not renewed.
Roy Rogers and other you know long a couple of
years assistant coach was also let go, and some other
(01:45:58):
people as well. Um, that part fluid and beyond that,
I mean Darryl Morey. Their GM is going to be
aggressive somewhere like he always is, but they're gonna have
a really hard time doing anything drastic with that core.
It's gonna be a James Hard and Chris Paul team,
you know, with cursory pieces. They need Clint Capella too,
you know, grow again. Clint was a real let down
(01:46:19):
in the in the second round against the Warriors. You know,
he just got outplayed by Kavan Looney and that's not
something that we necessarily saw coming. So um, that series lost. Guys.
I'll tell you, like I told some of the Warriors
players at the time that I don't know that I
had ever seen one team kind of you know, kind
of jack up another team's program and that type of
(01:46:39):
a visceral way that the Warriors did beating them without
Kevin Durant and and just kind of putting an end
to all this talk that the Rockets were on the
Warriors level. It was an amazing and then you obviously
are looking left, looking right, where do we go? Interesting
to see where the Rockets go this offseason and into
next season. Sam, you know it's a holiday weekend, you're
in between finals the start of the NBA Finals. We
(01:47:00):
appreciate the time and hopefully we can do it again
in the near future. No problem. Thanks Thanks Sam. Samymi
senior NBA Ready for the athletic Find him on Twitter
at Sam Underscore. Am he is Dan Buyer. I am
Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio.
Coming up next, an NFL quarterback has Dan Buyer all confused?
(01:47:20):
Dan Buyer is confused because of one NFL quarterback. Find
out who that is next year on fs are But
for all the latest from around the world of sports,
say hello to our friend Isaac and Crown, Jonas and Dan.
A short time ago, Golden State head coach Steve Kerr
confirmed that Kevin Durant will not play in Game one
of the NBA Finals on Thursday at Toronto. It has
not been determined yet whether Durant will travel north of
(01:47:43):
the border for the first two games of the series.
Kerr also said that DeMarcus Cousins is questionable for Game
one one. Other note. One of Raptors super fan Drake's
songs called Hotline Bling, contains the following passage used to
call me on my cell phone, My love, call me
(01:48:08):
on my cell phone. Well today. Steve Kerr was also
asked if he's preparing for Drake to tap him on
the shoulder during the finals, and Kerr responded, I'm not
worried about Drake. I called him on his cell phone.
Oh man, that's Steve Kerr. Man, who I mean? I got? Uh?
(01:48:32):
Andrew Dice, Clay, Don Rickles, Steve human beings in the world.
By the way, Don Rickles surprisingly ahead of his time
on pick and roll concept, So I guess it goes
both ways. Tonight at eight Eastern Game one of the
Stanley Cup Final, as the Boston Bruins take on this St.
(01:48:53):
Louis Blues. One NFL note that just came down. Former
Steeler and New Raiders receiver Antonio Brown was called out
on Twitter recently by one of his former Pittsburgh neighbors
for not mowing his lawn after he moved out, The
grass in his front yard had grown to two ft long.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune, Hey well, hey, we've got
(01:49:18):
an update. Brown responded by asking his Twitter followers to
volunteer to mow the lawn for him. In this afternoon.
Two of them just dead. So shout out to Taylor
Rombold and his buddy Tyler Sat for the great job
that they did. Back to Jonas Knox and Don and Dan.
But Don Buyer is Don on the fare not to
(01:49:40):
be confused with comedian Dan Rickles in ten seconds. But
first a word from farmers that Farmers insurance. We know
every windshield collision has a unique sound. Beetle bird, poop,
drone seen it, covered it, dr Farmers. Were farmers under
written my farmers to fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products
unavailable in every state. It is that Gottlieb show. Thank
(01:50:02):
you very much, Isaac. He's Jonas Knocks, I'm Dan Buyer.
That is John Ramos hanging out on this Memorial Day.
You got something? What did Antonio Brown pay those guys?
Do those guys get anything in return from owen his lawn?
It's it's like at at Bill's Stadium when there's snow,
like they'll give you ten bucks an hour to show
the snow. They give you tickets to the game and
most of those fans are like, we'll just take the
ten bucks. They do it at Lambo as well, but
(01:50:25):
you don't get tickets. You get you get paid to
shovel the snow. I actually had a situation where two
guys showed up at my door. True story. This is
a true story. They said, they said, your normal gardener
can't come and mow your lawn on Saturday, so because
(01:50:46):
of cataract surgery. So we're gonna do it today on Friday.
And then the next couple of weeks. Okay, guy comes
on Saturday most the lawn and the next day my
gardener shows up. Oh my, where the cataracts? I thought
you had surgery. He had no idea what I was
talking about. These guys if mode the wrong wrong lawn,
(01:51:09):
So someone's it may have been Antonio Brown's lawn. That
because they showed up again this past Friday and that
I had to get outside and I'm yelling you wait
wait ye, they had no idea they were doing the
wrong ouse. Um and so but why did they make
up the story about cataracts or they thought he was
a different gardener. They actually are taking over for someone
(01:51:31):
who had cataracts surgery. But they just didn't know what houses.
They thought that it was our house and it wasn't.
So whoever's the lawn they were supposed to be doing
it at their long cutting. Maybe the original guy who
got the surgery should recommend his ophthamologist to those guys,
get the right address. To answer your question about Antonio
Brown on Twitter, he said when he made the call
(01:51:53):
for somebody to mows lawn, send me cash app. So
apparently there's an app and he's going to pay them
over the app. Alright, well continue efforting that. Well, to
make a long story short, he's gonna get paid that.
Uh do you guys hear about this Lamar Jackson stuff?
I know I was out a pocket for a while.
This this o t a s. He shows up at
(01:52:14):
ot as for the Baltimore Ravens and has no idea
that they are running a new offense under new offensive
coordinator Greg Roman. And this to me is this is
surprising on a couple of levels. First of all, it's
surprising that it hasn't been communicated from when you have
an offensive coordinator that's hired too late, may that your
(01:52:37):
quarterback doesn't understand that there was a new offense, And
While everything is great with the Baltimore Ravens and the
success of making the playoffs winning the division. I know
they lost to the Charges, but there's a lot of positivity.
You're also bringing in an offensive coordinator to cater to
the guy that doesn't know that you are switching offenses.
(01:52:58):
This struck me in all of the weird ways. Isn't
isn't the we're hiring Greg Roman, Lamar meet him because
you are going to be our future. Like how in
the world does this go down that you have Lamar
Jackson showing up and not realizing that you're going to
be running the same offense that he learned last year,
Like it's why would you run more Marty morning Wegg's
offense which was set up for Joe Flacco? Uh, and
(01:53:21):
the whole not communicating better with him. If he's your
franchise quarterback and you traded away Joe Flacco to make
this his team, why the hell wouldn't hit him up
and say, oh, by the way, new offensive coordinators and
we're changing the playbook. He was hired in mid January,
and they have like fourth Like don't you at least
have conversations even in between them of like saying, all right,
(01:53:42):
we want to make sure there's no sophomore slump. We
know the teams are gonna now they've got film on you,
we're gonna be able to like, how does this end
up taking four months to all of us and be realized?
John Harba says, noways look great out there. Jackson's that
he's starting to get the hang of things. But this
is when this is the National Football League. I mean,
Kyler Murray probably had a Cardinals playbook before he was
(01:54:04):
even drafted. Lamar Jackson doesn't even know what offense they're
running coming up in Mady and somebody should have filled
him in. Hey, Lamar, this is how you know you're
getting a new offensive coordinator. You were drafted by the Ravens.
They've had seventeen in the last three years. Honest to god,
didn't they go through one year like three different offensive coordinators.
Cam Cameron was a Super Bowl year was Mark Tressman
was an offensive coordinator? There for for a cup of coffee.
(01:54:26):
I mean, they've had multiple offensive it is. It is
bizarre um and and almost too hard to be, too
hard to believe. Like I almost wonder if he was
being sarcastic because I just can't imagine that there was
no conversation to be had. I just find that hard
to believe that that he would not be aware that
there's that There's just no It's like the Andrew Luck
(01:54:49):
injury from a year ago. Remember when there was this
talk Andrew Luck hasn't thrown a football, and Andrew Luck
hasn't done this, which all just was embellished. Um, of
course he had thrown a football, Like he wouldn't have
gotten out there at some point to try and test
his arm, Like the first time he's going to try
and throw football's the preseason, Like, come on, I just this.
I almost wonder if he was just being sarcastic, because
if he's not, this is alarming. Well, these were the
(01:55:12):
comments he said coming into the offseason workouts. I didn't
know we would have a totally different offense. When I
got here, coach was like, yeah, we have a totally
new system. You're going to have to go through this
and that it's been getting to me a little bit. So,
I mean, that's it's first time off field work, and
like that part wasn't. I just don't know how you
and terminology and different things. I can understand all of that,
(01:55:34):
But not only are you bringing in a new offensive coordinator,
you're bringing in a new offensive coordinator to maximize the
skills of the quarterback that you now have and he
doesn't know what's going on. That's a red flight of
the quarterbacks that were taken in the first round last
year that Lamar Jackson draft, and that would be Lamar Jackson,
Sam Donald, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen. Lamar Jackson,
(01:55:57):
by far is the one I have the most doubt
about an NFL quarterback. Yeah, by far, because I think
that there were times, especially in the playoff game. Remember
they were they were talking about benching him in that
playoff game against They were they were talking about sitting
him at halftime because he was playing so poorly. I
just I wonder if if we're starting to see sort
(01:56:19):
of the okay, did we make the right move here? Like,
I just don't know that that I can trust him
and the other guys. I I have a little bit
more faith in the issues. I know Josh Allen is
a big guy, but he can't continue to be like
they're running threats like that, the leading rusher that can't happen.
But you actually think that he would have that Lamar
(01:56:41):
Jackson has a less chance or to succeed than Josh
Rosen in Miami. Yeah, and maybe it's because I've seen
more of Lamar Jackson, so maybe his flaws have been
exposed a little bit more than Josh Rosen. But yeah,
I just have serious doubts about Lamar Jackson. I I
look at like I look at Rosen, and I thought
Rosen was going to be best of the five. But
(01:57:02):
I look at Rosen now as for as bad as
it was and as unfair as it really was in
Arizona with how things work from top to bottom, I mean,
just just in atrocity, the second chance is really all
that he has in Miami considering what could be ahead
in the next draft, only has a year in my
(01:57:23):
mind to really figure out if Rosen is the guy,
because now if he isn't the guy, guess what You've
got to figure out? All right, do we take a
quarterback in if we're one of the three worst teams
in the National Football And I say three because Jake
from uh to AH and Justin Herbert going to be
available for them, and you could take a quarterback at
(01:57:44):
that spot. So that's where I think like with Rosen,
like he's now in a make or break here because
the Dolphins don't even have time to sit there and
wonder if Rosen is gonna be there Guy, Dan Buyer,
Jonas Knox, and Product Gottliebier on Fox Sports Radio. Coming
up next, we could have a major suspension in the NFL.

go to Isaac Low and Crown the Press. Oh, we
(01:58:51):
want to know, Isaac, what is happening on this Memorial Day? Well,
item number one, John's eating again. By the way, what's
the eating? I don't He's chewing on something, all right.
The show started at noon, the Pacific time. John's lunch
started at twelve o two. I've heard that back in
the day, Alan Michael's used to eat through the Monday
(01:59:13):
night football telecast, Like they'd go to a commercial break
and he'd have a bite of steak and blah blah
blah and hey, whatever words for you talk about A
month ago went to me when I was eating a carrot,
like we usually like we'll go to break at about
the bottom of the hour, and it was like maybe
and all of a sudden, just I don't know where
let's go to and you can't like you can't just know,
(01:59:35):
take a carrot half eaten and swallow it. So it
was when I was doing updates on a Sunday one
time I got mango hobbing yarrow wings from Buffalo wild Wings.
The next update it sounded like a dog licking itself.
I couldn't get the words out. I couldn't My mouth
was on fire. Sometimes I think you and the host

studio have a camera trained on us, secretly in the
anchor studio to realize the most inconvenient time to come
to us. Because I will, I'll try to be delicate here,
but sometimes nature has been calling and conveniently a segment
will run long at the bottom of the hour onto
the top headline today And I was Steve Kerr a
(02:00:15):
short time ago confirming not exactly a shop shock, but
confirming that Kevin Durant will not play in Game one
of the NBA Finals at Toronto on Thursday, And it
also has not been determined yet whether he will travel
to Toronto for the first two games of the series.
You're not gonna play game one. What's why? I know
(02:00:39):
there's you know, only one of seven and you've got
to get four of them, so the game two would
be valuable, But I would be I would be surprised
to see the work that he would have to get
in then with that team to be able to play.
What about Boogie Cousins plan He's listed as questionable for
games at all. There's no reason to play Boogie Cousins. None.
I don't think, not at all in the series. No
(02:01:04):
point by the way John's bringing out all the classics
he's he's, oh, I forgot about this page. You know what?
You know? A classic? You know a classic? He should
bring out that. I don't think it's enough airtime have
Mercy by John Stamos were we can only do it
if we play it three times in a row, a
(02:01:27):
three play minimum. Onto the NFL, where our friend and
colleague Jay Glazier of Fox Sports in the Athletic was
doing a mail bag and asked about Todd Gurley's knee
and whether his situation and uncertainty has been overblown, and
he responded, no, it's not overblown at all. I think
the biggest test will be what happens early in the
season's If he runs and the Rams are able to
(02:01:49):
use him as a workhorse, a lot of those concerns
will go away. If not, they're gonna have to get
a little creative. Remember Gurley, the former league MVP in
the Super Bowl limited to ten carries for thirty five yards.
La la la. I've told you the Rams aren't making
the playoffs, and John knows that he's heard me. They
are not making the playoffs next year. It is not
going to just so wait a second, twenty four years
(02:02:10):
old and early signs of arthritis and the needs a
bad thing. I'm not going to happen. Yeah. Who Sports
reporting that the NFL will likely review the incident involving
Ezekiel Elliott recently in Las Vegas to determine whether it
violated the terms of his previous suspension guidelines. He was
(02:02:32):
out very very early in the morning at a music
festival in Vegas, and TMZ tweeted a video of him
pushing a security guard during an argument into a metal barrier.
He was detained at the scene, but not arrested when
the security guard did not want to press charges. Yeah.
By the way, we did catch up with the security guard.
(02:02:54):
The security guard afterwards, Dan, I mean that we're trying
to do a serious topic here. The security guard afterwards,
they caught up with him and said, hey, who was
the guy that just headbutted you over the guardrail? So
lay didn't say have mercy stunning? Uh, that was the press.
(02:03:15):
I'll say this about the Ezechiel Elliott thing. I don't
think that the NFL, they really don't like to get
power hungry and stuff like that. They're just gonna let
this slide. Yeah, there's gonna be no Yeah, no, no,
They're just gonna move on. That's why I'm surprised it
hasn't gotten more conversation because it was about and he
was bombed, stumbling. You look like hassle off eating a
burger on the floor. He was ripped. What's next for nice?
(02:03:38):
That's next on the Dogtap Show. Be sure to catch
live editions so the Doug dot Leap Show week days

about that? There it is. Usually it's straight out of Vegas.
(02:04:42):
Thank you, thank you very much. I don't know if
I did my r J Bell impersonation as well as
as you would have hoped, but I just know you
can't have the Pros without the Joes. Well you gotta give.
I will say this, r J. They had a a
in season bed Who's Gonna in the Eastern Conference? And
r J Bell had the Toronto Raptors and was not
(02:05:04):
feeling good about it. Steve Pezick, also on the show,
very Knowledgeable, had the Milwaukee Bucks, and I think Steve
Feesick much like you Dan Buyer, and I'll be honest
me as well. After the Bucks went up to oh,
I thought, yeah, Bucks and six probably I mean Bucks
and Bucks and six makes it makes a lot of sense,
and maybe the Raptors get a game at home, they'll
they'll split the games at home, and maybe they'll go
(02:05:25):
back and lose a game six. But it didn't go that.
You heard about the Dan Buyer curse, you guys ever
heard about the damn Yeah, it's it's started. It started
in and you guys may know that. Uh I. I
grew up as a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes
(02:05:47):
and still follow the football team the basketball team, but
just ever since I was a young kid in Ohio
State was getting ready to go and face Penn Stay
it's in the game and Happy Valley, and I started
shooting off my mouth at school, you know, bringing on
Penn State, bringing on Carrie Collins, bringing on to JOHNA. Carter.
(02:06:09):
Ohio State went to Heavy Valley and lost sixty fourteen.
So I said, from that point on, I am never
going to you know, talk trash, have the bravado of
bringing on do whatever. Well, did you guys catch my
tweet after Game two of now do you believe in
the Bucks? Since I have been wanting people to believe
(02:06:30):
they did not win a game since I sent that tweet,
and I partially blame myself. Yeah, I would just like
to point this out and and do it so eloquently,
that Dan Buyer is a legitimate Milwaukee Bucks fan. Everybody
else who jumped on mid season claiming their Bucks fan,
including people listening to Wisconsin, You're full of crap. No,
you are not, you not, you don't You have no
(02:06:51):
You think Jack Sikma is the name of a steakhouse.
You have no idea what the hell the Milwaukee Bucks are?
Dan Buyer does, He's got a right to be upset
his team? Um, what was it? What are you called
him meltdown? Would you say they melted down or just
didn't adjust? I just think that they just, uh, they
couldn't adjust. How about that? Like it wasn't It wasn't
(02:07:14):
because like there were lineups that Mike Budenhols are in
the Bucks put out there in Game six, And we
talked about this earlier in the show, But Nicolamira Tich
didn't play in that game. He was a part of
the rotation you had, Eric Bledsoe just I mean talk
about volatile throughout the series. Would be a good game
(02:07:34):
and then would be a bad game. You didn't know
what to do with him. There was a time where
George Hill was the better option at the point guard position.
I think that they tried to adjust, but they just
it just didn't work. It's they were so dominant during
the regular season, and they really were of winning the
amount of games that they won by double digits, and
they just kept on doing it their way Jonas. It
was getting to the basket, layups and dunks by Jannis
(02:07:57):
and then kicking out for threes, and once Planned eight
didn't work, Plan B was more like a Plan C
or Plane D because they just didn't know where to
go from that point. And I don't buy that Malcolm
Brogden was a percent when he came back. As somebody
who's dealing with plan or fasciitists right now, and I've
had it multiple times in my life, hundred percent. He
(02:08:18):
was not nowhere close to being fully healthy when he
came back. I'm not buying it. I think he was
good enough to play and good enough to give it
a go, but I don't think you saw the actual
Malcolm Brogman. And he had he had moments in the
series where he was playing really well, but it's with
that type of injury from dealing with it personally, there's
no way that he was just anything more than just
(02:08:39):
sort of okay going into that series. There's and there's
something to that as well, because with the great talent
that they have on their team, I actually think that
consistency wise in Janice puts up magnificent numbers, I mean
all across the all across the board, but of steady
players of you know what you're getting. Malcolm Brogden was
(02:08:59):
the most like of the guys that you wanted to
be reliable outside of Janice, and and with his contributions
that you know you were likely going to get. You
know that you were always going to get something from
Malcolm Brogden. And that's where their future is interesting because
of you're gonna have to give him a new contract,
(02:09:19):
You're gonna have to give Chris Middleton a new contract,
and now you've got this Court and Jonas. That's the
that's the other thing of you know, you see what
the Houston Rockets. You lock into a plan because you
feel like that's the plan to go because this is
how far you've gotten. And if you do that, sometimes
it's tough to get out of those plans. If they
don't work. So that's why I think it's so intriguing
about Milwaukee's offseason this year is because you know Janice
(02:09:43):
is gonna have a deal coming up in a couple
of years when he becomes a free agent one you
hopefully can lock him up before them, but you know
it's gonna take an obscene amount of money to do so,
So how do you construct your team around that, knowing
that you're also gonna have to pay that down the line.
Just one of the many questions they have in an
Eastern Conference that seems gettable, especially if Kauai leaves, but
you just don't know who's coming to the Eastern confer
(02:10:05):
There's been uh, I guess I don't know if he's
gotten a lot of negative pushback on it, um him
leaving the press or Janice leaving the press conference after
the game, very upset, very frustrated. You've actually noticed some
of this in him during his time in the NBA,
to where everyone sees joyful guy, humble, loves to play,
appears to be a great teammate and a great dude,
(02:10:27):
but there's another side of him. Yeah, It's just I
I was always a bad loser when I was a
kid like I just hated to lose, you know, losing
in cards. When a kid, you know, storm off with
the temper tantrum, that streak is like always in you
and I think it's in Janice as well, and it
comes out. It came out in the playoffs years back
when they were getting trounced by the Bulls in Milwaukee,
(02:10:48):
when he just bulldozed Mike Dunlevy Jr. Into the front
row on the sidelines of the old Bradley Center. That
is like the that's the most striking image of your
like boy, that was un characteristic, but you know that
it's there, and I think that that there are times
it may just be a little thing, and it maybe
one thing, but there's things that can really set him off.
(02:11:11):
And that is something that he's going to have to
control and get better at throughout his career. Because it
was on full display in this, you know, in the
in the playoffs of just him walking walking off the podium.
It just doesn't seem Chris Middleton was even thrown off
guard because he's like, Okay, I'll just answer the cooth,
you know, the question that was posed to him. And
I also think that one of the I think he
(02:11:34):
got tired towards the end, which is understandable. I mean, look,
it's a grind. They haven't gotten this far before. It's
new for your body. He's still, you know, kind of growing,
and I think he got tired towards the end. And
one of the things that that I've that I've talked
about is in game five, late in the game when
your guy Chris Webber and Reggie Miller were making comment
of this to where why was he off the floor
(02:11:55):
after he rolled his ankle and Mike budenholes Are after
the game. During that sequence, Mike budinos Are afterwards said well,
you know, he looked to be looked to be injured
and talked about the injury, Well, if you hurt your ankle,
why are you still standing on it on the sidelines,
you know, like, like, shouldn't you get off your feet?
Shouldn't you if it's that that much of a concern.
I think he was winded and I think he was
worn down. And whether you want to credit Kawhi Leonard
(02:12:18):
or or whatever they were doing in that series, j
honest looked like he was sort of over everything. And
by the time that press conference rolled around, he just
wanted the hell away from it all. I you know,
it's it's interesting because I even read it more into
it because he was having the struggles that he was having.
Was that in that instance is budinos throughout the series?
(02:12:41):
I mean it took the Bucks six games. They still
don't know how to guard, to pick and roll, like
you're searching for stuff, you're trying to find different stuff.
Him being tired could very well have been a part
of it, and that could have also led to his
offense suffering. But I also thought like, maybe right now
he's not the best offensive option because Jannice is threat
(02:13:01):
of being that offensive threat was always was always the issue,
like you gotta stop because he's just gonna dunk on you. Well,
Trono did a pretty good job of not letting that happen,
and all of a sudden, he wasn't as much of
a threat anymore. And when you needed a bucket when
they did crazy as it sounds that the possible m
(02:13:22):
v P that boutenholz Er maybe at the time thought
maybe it's not our best option to have him there
because they're struggling at the free throw line. We can't
get him to the bucket. He gets frustrated. He doesn't
give up on plays, which actually is a detriment because
sometimes you're you're playing too hard and you're forcing turnovers.
I actually read that into the decision. Tired could have been.
I mean it, there's a lot on his shoulder. You
(02:13:43):
could encompass all of that, like all of those things
could have happened at that time. And man, listen, Kauai Leonard.
There's a you can look this up. You can go
to YouTube or or Google and search it for yourself.
But there's a moment in the NBA Finals several years
ago where Lebron James is at the foul line and
sees that Kawhi Leonard checked back into the game during
the Spurs Heat series, and Lebron visibly frustrated that Kauai
(02:14:06):
was checking back in the game because he realized, oh,
here we go again. I gotta deal with this guy,
like Kauai is a nightmare to deal with. And Janice is,
let's see, twenty four years old, he's still developing. He's
still trying to figure this out and and and understand
it's like they always talk about, you know, in the
NBA playoffs, you've got to go through certain things in
order to get to where you want to go. And
(02:14:26):
I think part of that is the grind man. We
we can all say, well, they travel first class and
they do this, and they do that. Dan, If I
take the forty five minute flight from Burbank to Vegas,
like I need a shower and a nap afterwards. It's
just it's exhausting. And I think that's part of having
to deal with what comes with NBA playoffs and every
(02:14:47):
everything goes through him. And for as much as you
want to look at like there's there's one guy playing inside,
because you have you have Bledsoe with the ball, if
you will, you have Middleton on the outside, yeah, Brook
Lopez on the outside, You've got Malcolm Brogden on the outside.
And honest is the one that's not saying those guys
aren't doing the work, but he bears a brun of
it because of who he is and what he means
(02:15:08):
to that offense. Go ahead, No, I was gonna say,
and I'll give him credit because going into this this season,
what was the talk about improving uh Janice, Well, he's
got to get a better jump shot. He did, He
put the work in he's he's not Ben Simmons. He
actually put the work in and and so I would
I would expect him to do the same thing this
offseason and be better next year. He's never gonna be
Kevin Durant like that's like it's not going to happen.
(02:15:30):
Of that scoring, you just hope that it happens the
more to be more consistent, and if you other Aptors,
you still would rather have him shoot threes in that
series then go to the basket. And that's what we
saw that they would even even when he hit a
couple of shot like thirty three percent, I think in
the series that you're like, all right, better than that
than him maybe dunking on us. There was the report
from ESPN saying that a finals push in t would
(02:15:54):
really make him like really want to stay with Milwaukee.
I think he wants to stay and way, I don't
think that it's a finals push that would do it
for the simple fact Jonas it's on his shoulders, like
like like like if they're gonna go, like he is
the one to drive that wheel. If the Bucks don't
get better next season or fall off, it's likely because
(02:16:17):
he didn't get better because they're gonna be pieces of
that supporting cast that are still there, and that would,
you know, motivate him to leave Milwaukee. That's why I said,
regardless of how this series went, whose future to be
like more Milwaukee or Toronto? And I love Milwaukee because
a market like that, and you know that, look the
Packers outside of you know, Reggie White. I mean, it's
(02:16:40):
not like a free agent destination. You've got to hit
in the draft. There are certain places like that. The Jazz,
the Bucks are like that. Guess what problem solved? The
Bucks hit in the draft. They got a a once
in a decade type player. He's on your roster and
now you build around him. You hope he improves. You've
got the coach for all the all the naysayers and
tying about Nick Nurse, who, by the way, why does
(02:17:02):
Nick Nurse have his own effing hat? Did you see that? Yeah,
there's he's got his own. Look they all do. I
forgot who on the team like helps them with their
own Like Pascal Sam's got a p in a st
that looks like a heart. So they've developed their own
logos for them. What are they pro wrestlers? Now? Like
everybody's got their own merchandise. But look, Mike Budenholzer totally
outcoached Brad Stevens the series before. So look, you've got
(02:17:25):
the coach, you've got your superstar. You just built towards
the title. Easy enough, that easy. Everybody sounds good. Just

new John Ramos Show nineteen comes up in about ten minutes,
(02:18:34):
the the anticipation in its new time slot right now,
six thirty Eastern, three thirty pacific, John Ramos, you know
they told me we're gonna move you back an hour,
and I was like so much success at the time
I'm at, but I like challenges, and there we go.
Bringing in a new audience is what he does. You
(02:18:54):
know what John said when we told him we're going
to be doing the John Ramo Show bringing the pashas. Hey, John,
since we got you here? Uh, do you know the
six NBA teams that won divisions this past year that
(02:19:18):
won the divisions? The six team I would say the
gold No no, yeah, Golden State Warriors. Okay, uh, Toronto Raptors.
It's two as one Nope, not that love thinking aloud? Yeah, well, hey,
sometimes you gotta walk through things, you know, John, I'll
(02:19:39):
give you a hint. Okay, Houston Rocket not the Philadelphia
FLA Euston Rockets. Who one of the Southwestern Conference? Um,
that would be the Houston Rockets. Okay, previously heard a
minute ago. Oh this is so making a point. Yes, Um,
(02:20:01):
I'm gonna go with that team up north. Yes, the
Orlando Magic did their North North Florida or not. That's
four right, so two more a lot better than I thought.
I I don't know. I don't want to kill the box.
(02:20:22):
You're a team. I'm sorry. I apologize Central Division and
the Nuggets in the Northwest Division. And this just goes
to the point of nobody cares about NBA division anymore,
not not even relatively close. And when these playoffs, I
didn't even know Orlando had a team. I was shocked
when I saw the tweet that they had won the
(02:20:44):
Southeast Division. I never never have even I didn't look
at the division standings once this past year, and I
think I've looked maybe three times in the last two years.
The point being is there's no point for divisions anymore.
In jonas I would argue in the National Football League,
there's almost no point for divisions because all divisions do
(02:21:07):
are supposed to give you, like a a cleaner sample
size to determine who is the best of a group
of teams. And then the NBA, when you play eighty
two games, you play four games against each of the
opponents in your division, so that's sixteen games. It's a
fifth of your schedule. There's no wather that's indicative of
(02:21:27):
as a whole. And in the NFL when you're only
playing six games against division opponents when there are sixteen games.
To me, it's just it. We are focusing on stuff
that shouldn't be focused on. Either either make divisions bigger
or don't have them at all. Yeah, it's um, I
guess kind of a similar situation with college football to
where everyone's talking about just make it like this, MANI divisions. Well,
(02:21:50):
the reason for divisions in college football is because it
gives you something that matters. Like nobody's watching in Orlando
Magic game late in the season going this is for
all tomorrow balls. Everybody like nobody cares like it doesn't
mean anything, and we we we it's been built in
our minds that unless you win an NBA championship, you're
not allowed in the class and you're not allowed to
be talked talked about in the class, and the regular
(02:22:11):
season means nothing. And then the NBA wonders why the
regular season numbers have taken a hit, Like you're telling
us it doesn't mean anything. That's that's what's great. About
college football. Everything seems like a big deal. And the
second you you were to you were to get rid
of this or just make it a two division uh
football and and and just the Power five. The second
(02:22:32):
you do that, what you're doing is you're you're eliminating
the in game, the in season drama that so many
schools build their rivalries on. That's what makes it fun.
I have an issue like the NBA ended up doing
away with their if you win this, then you get
the first like Orlando won the Southeast Division, they didn't
get home court advantage against the Raptors in the first round.
(02:22:52):
Of the place it didn't matter is how you sorted out.
You look at a team like the Chargers. Gavin Kinsel,
our executive producer, the Hargers have a great season. This
isn't the trust me. This is an old argument. But
we see how things have changed in the NBA and
how it really doesn't matter if you have divisions. Is
when when you look at what happened to the Chargers
(02:23:14):
this past year. They have that great win in Kansas City,
go on the road in Week fifteen, and then they
lose the next week to the Ravens and guess what
you're stuck is a five seed and you have to
go on the road for the entire playoffs, even though
you're one of the better teams in the a f C.
And it's because you finished second in your division, and
it's it's I guess I'm taking it a step further
jonas of the the way that the n the NFL
(02:23:37):
tries to await their schedule and make it fair for everybody.
It's never going to be fair. So what's the point
of comparing four teams in a group when you could
do it with eight? It was much more legit when
you had five teams in a division and half of
your schedule was against that division, Like when when you
have the old NFC North with the Buccaneers in what
(02:23:58):
is now the Central Central. But when you took the
NFC North and end of the Buccaneers, you had the
five team division there. That was more indicative of how
you did within that within that group of teams than
what you've got now in the NFL. And I think
the NBA shows you in this playoffs, shows you nobody
even cares about divisions. I don't even think they would
care in the NFL if you did away with and
(02:24:20):
also I I don't think the NBA would hurt if
they got rid of two teams in the playoffs, like
make it, make it six seeds instead of eight. Um,
figure out a way like the NFL does to where
you reward the top two teams with a buy, but
make it six teams. I mean half of these first
round matchups we don't really care about anyways. I think
there's a different way they could do it, and you
(02:24:40):
would when you make it, when you make the end
getting to the playoffs special, then it means more getting there,
like college football. And I don't think they should ever
change from the four teams that get into the college
football playoff because the second you do that, now you
give people so much wiggle room during the course of
the season that well I lost this game, but big deal,
(02:25:03):
We're still one of the top eight teams. No, No,
make it exclusive. You've got to earn it to get here.
And the NBA kind of feels like when you get
to the six, seven or eight seat, especially in the
Eastern Conference, well yeah, we gotta we gotta come up
with eight, so yeah, you guys can come on in.
Like it just feels like a little lacks But one
thing I like about college football's championship games, whether it's
whether one division is stronger or not, there's at least
(02:25:26):
than argue, like you've at least got the game to
point to and say this is a funnel to something.
You know, like at least you could say, hey, all
of these teams played from this division. All of that
those teams did, they they factor into your conference record,
and you've got a funnel with the NFL, like with
the with the Chargers case, and I just compare the
(02:25:47):
Chargers to the Magic. The Magic won their division, but
they didn't get any any like boost from it just
because they were better than some three or four other
bad teams in their division. The Chargers were penalized for
being one of the best teams in the NFL for
the simple fact of they were putting a group with
someone else. And again it's not it's not a new argument,
(02:26:08):
but you see how the NBA playoffs play out and
how much we don't care about divisions. If if the
Bears and Packers were gonna play twice a year already
because there's a great rivalry, who cares if they're in
the same division, like it's it would all play out
as you look at the NFC as a whole anyway. Yeah,
I mean that's why when people are talking Major League
Baseball and they go, you know, add another wild card, man, No, look,
(02:26:30):
I like the I like the idea. Now do I
think that you know, is it fair that one game
determines an entire season? Probably not. I would make the
wild card of three game series if we're gonna do
it that way, just like every other UH series you
have or everything else in then in Major League Baseball
during the course of the season is a series. So
why is it all of a sudden one game winner,
(02:26:50):
take all? Um. But when you start adding more and
rewarding more, you're gonna get not not quality teams like
you would have if you make an an exclusive group
like you get in this time. So yeah, get rid
of the divisions, or lower the number of teams that
get into the postseason or get into the playoffs. And
I just think you would have a better product. I
(02:27:10):
really do. I know we have a John Ramo should
have get to But I want to make one other
point on this. I always find that the NFL is
hypocritical when because we know how much things can change
from a team from Week one to week seventeen. Yet
at the end of the year they try to tell
us that division games are more important because they put
sixteen of them in the final week everybody, everybody plays
(02:27:30):
a division game. Well, if it's so important important at
the end of the season, why are you putting Packers
Bears in the first game of the season, Like like
you're telling us that that last week has enormous value
because it's a division All weeks aren't created equal. If
the Bears have to play the freaking Packers when Aaron
(02:27:52):
Rodgers is healthy for two games and the Vikings get
Green Bay at the end of the year for an example,
and Rogers is hurt advantage Vikings like like like, things
don't stay the same in an NFL season. So if
you're gonna put all the division games, put them in,
put them in the last half of the year, like
weeks nine through seventeen, that's when you're gonna play. Because
that's really what you get a sense because it's not
(02:28:13):
even and it's not fair. It's not the same when
one team is playing one team in Week one team
and then you're telling us week seventeen is for all
the marbles. And by the way, week one is when
you can get creative, because we're gonna watch anything. If
you roll the Bears against three piles of dog craft,
I'm gonna watch it. I'm telling you right now. If
the Packers versus anybody and I'm watching it. You don't
need to have a division matchup to get people excited.
(02:28:35):
They're just happy to have their football back. You can
get creative, man, you can. You can pit teams that
never play each other in week one and see how
it goes. That's why you got Lions Cardinals week one,
and that is a true matchup. Here Ceo, c oh
oh boy, it's almost here. The interim sea live from

Steve Kerr confirming that Kevin Durant will not play in
Game one of the NBA Finals on Thursday at Toronto.
It has not been determined yet whether or not Durant
will travel north of the border for the first two
(02:29:38):
games of the series. Kerr also adding that DeMarcus Cousins
is questionable for Game one. Former Major League Baseball All
Star Bill Buckner passed away today at the age of
sixty nine after a battle with Louis body dementia. Buckner
played twenty two seasons in the Majors for the Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, Angels,
and Royals. On the field, the Red Sox have a
(02:29:59):
ten three lead over at Cleveland in the bottom of
the sixth inning at Fenway. Earlier, the Yankees had three
home runs at a five to win of the Padres
for their eighth win in nine games. Marlin's rally for
a three to victory at Washington as the Nationals bluest
saved for the eleventh time this season, tying the Cups
for the most in the majors. Tonight at eight Eastern,
Game one of the Stanley Cup Final was the Boston
Bruins take on this St. Louis Blues now finally today,
(02:30:22):
Steve Kerr was also asked if he's preparing for Drake
the Raptors super fan, to tap him on the shoulder
during the NBA Finals, and Kerr responded, I'm not worried
about Drake. I called him on his cell phone, of course,
in reference to the chorus from Drake's song Hotline Blank Well. Naturally,
(02:30:44):
here at Fox Sports Radio we just could not leave
that alone. So here, for the first time ever, it's
the Drake Steve Kerr cell phone remix. I'm not I'm
not worried about I'm not worried about Drake. I called
him on his cell phone. And Isaac's last hour, I
(02:31:09):
called him on his cellphone. Oh man, I know, called
him on his cell phone. Back to Jonas Knocks and

airborne car. Seen it covered it. Dr Farmers, we are

Jonas is gonna tell us the secret of keeping Kawai
(02:41:22):
in Toronto. In about thirty seconds he is Jonas knocks,
I'm Dan Buyer. That's John Ramos. Just want to let
everyone know that Jamison tweets in he had to pull
over for the John Ramos Show, so we appreciate that
to you. Uh. I don't know if it made him
pull over into a ditch or not, but I think
it is a good pull over. But you're right, it
could have been something detrimental as well. And by the way,
(02:41:45):
Dan Buyer retweeted the picture of him actually pulled over
and it looks like he's on the set of True Detective, Like,
where the hell is he? It's just like a giant
marsh like what is that? Um, we definitely do why
were you? Why did you just play one second of
an notorious b I G. So it was it was
supposed to be the can clapping, but unfortunately it was
(02:42:05):
on the wrong page. Going back to Kelly in two notes, Hey, okay, um, Dan,
they are concerned, well, not not yet. I know we
we talked to Paul Jones earlier, UM, and he was
talking about Paul Jones, who is the voice of the
(02:42:27):
Toronto Rafters, and he was talking about how they feel
more and more confident that Kawhi Leonards are gonna stick
around in Toronto and they're putting together this kauaiin and
Dyne they've got They've got like these guys offering him
free condos downtown like these really nice just huge condominiums
downtown beautiful Toronto. Um and they like they're offering him
(02:42:48):
stuff that he can already get. He can already afford
all this stuff. To me, you want to keep Kawhi Leonard,
it's real simple. Offer him something that he can't reviews,
Offer him something that he'd really be interested in. And uh,
I think there's something to a dan. Tell him he
no longer has to do media if he signs with
your team, and you'll pay all his fines from the NBA.
(02:43:09):
That's that's it? As that Yeah, just like that, we
doesn't want to talk to us? What about what about
the teammates that have to answer? Then if Kauai misses
a shot or has a three, that's part of the deal. Sorry, buddy.
You know not everybody can be Kauai or not. But
isn't it also then trying to get it out to
the masses, you know, taking like it's like speaking to
the media is really supposed to be spread out to
(02:43:31):
everyone else? Is that really what's going to allow him
to stay interrupted? Look, I haven't thought this that far.
Like I said, this is a surface take. I didn't
really do a significant deep dive on and I'm just
going with the no media obligations because it looks better
on Twitter. That's it. That's not bad. That's not bad.
They could also build a dome over Toronto and bio dome.
(02:43:54):
Ye like just got you have sky dome. Make it
retractable roof in the summer, you can open it up
like it was sixty degrees. Yes, okay. You being a
native of Wisconsin, say Janice in a couple of years
is deciding whether or not to stay in Wisconsin. What
could you offer him in the state of Wisconsin that
would make him want to stay? Oh geez, how about
(02:44:16):
a free round at Aaron Hills. Yeah Hills golf course.
By the way, my Joannice Jason Kidd connection that I
unveiled here on Fox Sports Radio weeks ago. Now people
are saying, yeah, that's what the Lakers are doing. They
stole from you. Yeah, they stole damn thieves. Yeah, it's
(02:44:39):
not like on the John Ramos Show. Be sure to
catch live edition so the Doug Dot Leaps Show week
days at noon Eastern three pm Pacific,
