listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom, What Up America, Doug
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to you from the
sunny city of Angels And It's brought to you by Farmers.
At Farmers, we've seen almost everything. Soon I cover almost anything.
When it's game time, I'm experienced player. Help you stay
ahead of the game, put their experience into play. At
(00:43):
Farmers dot com. Are farmers so with no games this
weekend and no one really caring about the National Hockey
League or uh Indie five hundred, I have no topics
for you. And in five hundred and a French guy
wins it and all I could think of was r
(01:03):
Rickey Boby, Right, That's all I could think of. That
doesn't mean that I didn't, you know, stop and watch
for a bit. And then I was wondering, like, hey,
when did we stop caring about the ind The co
Cola six hundred was on later on the evening. I
actually watched some of that. But then all of a sudden,
we got this Laker story. Kirk Plum blocked in our lap.
(01:26):
We had heard there had been whispers that there was
a a negative piece coming out about the leadership of
Magic Johnson. Remember when Magic Johnson summarily resigned. There were
stories that there was a story that ESPN dot com
was working on. It dropped today, and you know what
it was, basically everything we've told you. There was some insight,
(01:51):
there was some detail. He talked to a lot of people,
maybe the most interesting of which was something I'll play
for you a moment, Rob Polinka telling a story which
is factually incorrect, impossible to have have happened. But what
(02:12):
have we told you about the Lakers. Going back to
the trade Dadline debacle, we said, this was a coup deta,
This was Lebrons group going, hey, we could take over
the Cleveland Cavaliers, hostile takeover at some point. If we stay,
maybe we could somehow wrestle ownership away from from the
(02:32):
guy who you know wrote that famous letter, right Dan Gilbert,
of course, apparently suffered some sort of mild stroke. Hope
he gets better, But there was the thought, hey, why
take over the Calves, Why take over northern Ohio when
we can take over l A. We can take over
the Lakers. They already had a couple of clients on
(02:53):
the Lakers. They could land free agent clients on the Lakers.
They could hire their own coach, Lebron and Rich Paul
could be the acting GMS. And everything you read essentially
says as much that this is part of the fight.
How much you let those guys be around, how much, say,
should they have Magic Johnson apparently not as smiley and
(03:16):
as huggable when he's trying to lead an organization. Did
they get rid of some people? They did? Apparently thirty
seven point five percent of the employees that were there
before Magic and Blinka took over are no longer there.
That happens with every regime change, Maybe not with the
Lakers because they're more of a mom and pop. But
the idea that Magic is not what he seemed to be,
(03:38):
or that Magic was a guy who wanted autonomous power
yet didn't want to put in the work, and then
questioned anybody who questioned him, and when things went wrong,
he was accountable in terms of holding everyone else except
himself accountable. Completely believable. Rob Blink is an agent, agents,
having tendency to embellish and flat out make things up.
(04:01):
All that seemed to play out right. I mean, the
idea that rich Paul wanted to make a coaching change
and went to the commissioner of the n b A
to express his desire for the Lakers to change coaches
is exactly what we've told you. Rich Paul's feeling himself
found himself in l A with what he thought was
(04:22):
the most powerful player in the NBA and even on
a chessboard. Though the queen is the most powerful, the
queen does not have autonomous power. The queen is not
um queen is. The Queen is not. What's the Avengers
with the stick Stones with the Infinity South? What's the
(04:45):
guy who gets you know? What's the guy Thanos? He's
not Thanos? Right, he can't snap his fingers and half
the world this half the Lakers disappear although they tried, right,
that's the movie. This is real life. And yeah, Genie
Buss is way in over her head. And when magic quit.
She went, she went dark on people because she didn't
(05:06):
want to say, or do or act the wrong way.
Because I'm sure she was ticked, because that is what
doesn't appear to happen when you have a unified front, right, Like,
all of these things are understandable. And if anything, that
the explanation that I got without it being explained in
the piece was that Genie and her crew Linda Rambis,
(05:35):
they realize it's a coup data and they weren't going
to roll out the red carpet for Tyler. They didn't
want him to be a coach beyond Lebron James. You
know why, because when Lebron's done, they want Lebron to
be done. They don't want Lebron to have some sort
of power, whether it's coach or GM or player or
et cetera. So do I think the piece is some
(05:56):
sort of certificate on how great journalism still exists? Not really.
Do I think there are outright lies in the piece? No,
but there are some parts to it which clearly reported
on from the perspective of somebody that's not inside the No. Right,
like a Mari Spellman wasn't drafted even though they thought
(06:17):
they were going to draft to Mary Spellman, and there's
two war rooms, and one war room is made up
of the non players by players, I mean Magic and Polinka,
And so when they didn't draft to Marie Spellman instead
they drafted Molle Wagner, it perked up their ears. But
that happens. I mean, I've heard of Mari Spellman's got
bad knees. You couldn't practice all the time in college
(06:38):
because of the weight that he used to carry. And
Moe Wagner had a clean slate, so he was on
the do not draft list. That's why they passed up it.
Look people in that same secondary war room didn't want
them to draft a Lonzo Ball. You know, they prefer
Deer and Fox, they prefer several others who came in
(07:01):
on workouts, but they don't get to make the decision.
Polinka and Magic did. And Magic had an affinity for
a Lonzo Ball who may well become a very very
good player, but there's a mistake that he has never owned.
So my takeaway from the pieces, it may feel like
a hit piece. I think it's pretty well researched, but
(07:22):
I don't think it's from people so much in the
know even though most of what they're saying does appear
to be accurate, like here, here's here's an example. Contavious
Caldwell Pope was allowed to practice and play while serving
a twenty five day jail's sentence for violating the terms
of probation stemming from a d u I charge, a
decision that multiple team stafford said caused unrest in the franchise.
(07:45):
Caldwell Pope was allowed to leave the Seal Beach Police
Department detentions that are to attend practice in Laker games
as part of a work release program. He wasn't allowed
to travel outside the state, resulting in a missing one
game in Cleveland, one in Memphis, and two in Houston.
Quote anyone else wh would have put him on pirson
to leave or suspended him. One coaching staff one coaching
staff members set. I've talked to people in the Lakers
(08:07):
and they were like, look, it was weird. The guy
was in the facility at six am every day because
all he wanted to do is get out of the
detention center. And he was a show up, late, leave
early guy. And all of a sudden, he's a show up, early,
leave late guy. Eat all his meals there because then
he could visit his family there. But remember he also
served to two weeks suspension from the NBA because of
(08:32):
the d u I, which was in the off season
before he officially became a Laker, and they didn't really
have any other option. This was not on this year's team.
This was on last year's team when they were just
trying to be young and win games. And if they
didn't have Contavious called well Pope, they would have had
to activate lu All Dang and that didn't work. If
(08:53):
you don't believe me, look at lu All dan He
started the first game of the season and then never
played enough has not played another game in the NBA.
So it's not a crap article, but the perspectives from
which it's presented are not always in the know. But
you get the gist of everything we've told you about
(09:14):
the Lakers, and at the end of it, Jeannie is
still in charge, so is Rob Polinka. They still have
Lebron James and Magic Johnson does not appear to be
the guy that smiles and is super happy and just
wants everybody to have fun. Got it good? NBA Inside
of Frankie Solo joins the show up coming next. Did
(09:35):
he learn anything new from the piece on the Lakers?
Does he think it affect the Lakers signing anyone in
free agency? We'll discuss next. Be sure to catch live

Doug Gotlieb Show rolls on on Fox Sports Radio. You
can hear Frank Eye solo on Serious x M NBA
Radio Monday through Friday, seven am. Plus. You can read
his work in The Athletic. He joins us down on
the Doug Gottlieb Show. I'm sure you've read Baxter Holmes
this piece on the Lakers. Did you find anything super
(10:41):
new or super telling in there? I mean, I think
it was. You know, I'm surprised that more of this
stuff didn't come out during the regular season, just you know,
clearly dysfunctional. And I think, really, what's going to start
happening is that think more of the claim is gonna
fall on Jennie Buss, who has remained pretty silent about
the whole thing. I mean, come on, Doug, if you
go all the way back to when Magic announced his
(11:03):
resignation and then you had Magic going on first take,
now you have this story, and really what it you know,
what it really brings to light is the fact that
there just doesn't seem to be any control there. There
are way too many people involved, and who really has
the ultimate says that Linda Rambis. How much of us, say,
does Kurt Rambis have? Is it? Rob Blinka? What about
(11:23):
Phil Jackson, who, according to Magic Johnson you know, now
has a voice. So it just seems to be a
lot of people involved. I don't know if that that
really works for a lot of these organizations. I don't
you know, if you look at some of the best organizations,
they don't do it this way in the Lakers way.
Let's be fair. If you judge it by the record,
it's not working. No, no, but uh they also they
(11:44):
have Lebron, they have a good young core, they have
forty million dollars in cap space, they have the number
four pick in the draft. Like, look, I don't think
Magic Johnson comes off well. I thought Rob Blinka comes
off disingenuous, but none of that is None of that
is new. I like the thing that I felt and
I had heard and became obviously like, look, Lebron's guys
(12:05):
try to coodta right. They tried. They wanted their coach,
they wanted their player, they wanted and they were shot down.
Like I almost think feel like Linda Rambis was was
a good constant lery to to Genie buss in that
she saw the the possibility of losing any sort of
control over the Lakers, and that's why they shot down
(12:27):
the Tyler thing. Yeah, and I also think I think
what the Lakers really have to consider is what are
they going to do with Lebron James. I think if
he being fair about it, if you give Lebron this
season the next season, and he's like, we talked about
this before, Doug. The guys played so many games, so
many playoff games, so many minutes, and his timetable compared
(12:48):
to the rest of the team is a lot different. Now.
If they can go out during the offseason and make
a trade to get Bradley Beale or they signed a
top free agent, that changes everything. But you'd have to admit,
this isn't the Lakers that used to. If you look,
they've missed the playoffs six years prior to this. Even
if you go all the way back to Minneapolis, they
missed the plafs a total of six times. So things
(13:08):
do change quickly in the NBA, where you know, we
used to think of the Lakers as the organization that's
the place where everyone wanted to go. It's the Lakers,
it's Los Angeles. That really hasn't been the case, whether
or not it was the La Marcus Soldiers. Uh, Kevin
Durant has been a free agent a couple of times,
and now if you're looking at the top two guys,
Kevin Durant and Kawai Lan and maybe something will change
(13:29):
between now in July, but if they don't get either
one of those guys ain't looking at that next level guy,
whether it's gonna be Jimmy paler Orld. Like I said,
if you make a trade for Bradley Beale, but if
you have Lebron James on your roster, you know you're
not talking four years down the road. You need to win,
you know, this upcoming season or the next season. It's
not like it's going to get better for him. And
I know that they were had a great way on
(13:50):
Christmas Day when they beat the Golden State Warriors. But
he suffered an injury. That's the first significant injury of
his career. What makes everyone thinks that all of a
sudden he's gonna be healthy now? I don't. I don't
see that considering how much how many minutes he's played
over his career. That's the voice of Frank Eye Sola,
who writes for The Athletic. You can hear him on
Serious x M NBA Radio. Uh So k D is
(14:10):
going to travel but not play in Game one. This
does feel like a precursor to k D riding in
on the white Horse? Does it? It does? And I
also think it's smart at him to make the trip.
I mean, why I understand not going to Portland's for
those two games are up to oh in the series.
You know that the series, if you know, could eventually
come back to Oakland. But I think it's smart of
(14:30):
him to travel. It's come on, it's the thing is
gonna be stretched out there play. They're leaving today. Game
two is on Sunday, so why wouldn't you be there?
Maybe you can recover between games one and two, but
I really think what it is be around the team.
And then if he plays in Game three next Wednesday,
that would be exactly four weeks from the day that
he suffered the injury. So I think the day that
(14:50):
Kevin Durank got got injured, if they had said he's
out four weeks, you would just said, wow, that's a
long time. But here we are. We're now only what
is it, day one, no, eight days away from already
being four weeks. So I think the timetable is gonna
be game three, and you could see a scenario like
you just pointed out, maybe it'll be one one going
back to Oakland and Kevin Durant plays in Game three,
(15:13):
and I would have to think being out a month
is you know, it's it's going to affect them a
little bit, but I still think there are better team
with him, and I think it will make a difference.
So that's why I think it will go six games,
and I think the last I mean, what a way
to close out Oracle Arena, the last ever Warriors game.
There could be them lifting the Larry O'Brian trow. Yeah,
it could be could be amazing. Um what about the
(15:34):
Raptors and their ability to advance? Was it more about
them or more about the Bucks inadequacies? Yeah, I thought
it was most I thought it was mostly about Kawhi Leonard,
who was just on a different level than everyone else
out there. You know, jannest is going to be the
m v P, but he's not nearly the player right
now that Kawhi Leonard is just in terms of experience,
a much better you know, all around game. You can
(15:56):
make three pointers, mid range shots, can overpower guys in
the host It's gonna be a great learning experience for Milwaukee.
So their in experience certainly hurt them. And I thought
some of their guys like Garrit bled so I had
I thought had a really poor series, especially in Game six.
But this was more about Kawhi Leonar and this is
why MESSI went out and made that trade. All the
people in Toronto they loved Demarta Rosen because de Marta Rosen,
(16:18):
unlike Damon Stodomer and Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter and
Chris Bosh, who all wanted to leave Toronto basically the
day that they got there, Demarta Rosen signed up to stay.
He was a guy who was a reality drafted there,
so the city fell in love with with him. He
fell in love with the city, so there was this
emotional attachment. But I remember the time when they made
the trade. I mean, you're going out and you're getting
(16:38):
a top five point in the league. Now he's top three,
the best player in the league. The trade made all
the sense in the world because you've been in existence
for twenty four years, You're trying to get to the finals.
And regardless of what happened, if he decides to leave
after this, uh, you know in July, you know you
could trade Kyle I or you can kind of reboot
a little bit. You're obviously not gonna be a championship contender,
(17:00):
but I thought it was worth it going after a
guy like Kawhi Leonard is certainly paying off now Doug
Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio, that's the voice
of frank Is Sola and um, I I'm intrigued by
a couple of other things in the NBA. You mentioned
Brad Beale, that's suddenly become the hot name for the Lakers,
(17:22):
uh to to to trade for. They've obviously had a
change at gentleman at general manager. Who if if not
Brad Beal, or even if Brad Beale's who are the
other guys were not There's always somebody who's moved we're
not talking about, Like the Chris pal right, the Chris
Paul move seemed kind of out of out of thin air.
Who's the guy who's moved that we're not talking about. Yeah,
(17:42):
I know that's the that's a good question right now.
I do think to your point, I do think it
is Bradley Beale. I mean, if you're the Lakers, you're
looking for that guy kind of in his late twenties
who has a little bit of experience and can really
be that second guy for Lebron James and I with
thing now people have said Lonzo Ball, don't they have
to get more than Lonzo Ball for Bradley Beale, Well,
(18:04):
what do you do? What do you do do with John Wall? When? Well,
why when is he coming back? That's that's the issue.
I mean, who knows when John Wall is gonna come back.
He's definitely he's certainly gonna miss next season. I mean,
come on, if you want to got Lonzo Ball in
the fourth overall pick, you'll probably be back in the
lottery next season. If you're Washington, where are you going
over the next couple of years? This ship is basically
sailed for the Washington Wizards because you're not gonna be
(18:25):
one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference and
you're kind of waiting for It's amazing that John Wall
has one of the worst contracts in the league, hasn't
even really kicked in yet. That's that's amazing. John Wall
would have been one of those guys, and I know
there are people advocating a year ago to trade him.
They really should have looked to do something like that
because now now they're stuck with him. But I think
that Washington has to be one of those teams because
(18:46):
you look at the teams in the Eastern Conference with
veteran players that aren't going anywhere and they kind of
jumped to the forefront. Maybe Kevin Love could be that
guy too, Doug, because if you look at Cleveland, you
know they're in a rebuilding situation. Maybe Kevin Love could
be a guy that could pretend actually be on the move.
That that that would be, that would be fascinating. Um,
what about Milwaukee, You know, there's a lot of questions
(19:08):
for what they do with their roster. They have uh
not nice but all the supporting cast players outside of
Bledsoe is kind of a bad contract um surrounding him,
they have contracts up. What do you think they look
like next season? Well, it's it's it's it's a tough
one for them. I I do think that they're going
to bring back um, Chris Middleton. You know that they
(19:29):
want to bring brook Opens. There's only so much they
could offer them. And certainly they want to bring back
mount Brocken, who a lot of people like around the league.
George Hill would be if he and you don't know
about I would try to bring back those other three guys.
But you know this too, if you go back to
last season with a team like Boston, Boston was at
home Game seven. There were five minutes away from making
(19:49):
it to an NBA finals. You know, this year they
got knocked out in the second round. Milwaukee was two
wins away for making it to an NBA Finals. You
really don't know if you're ever gonna get back to
that level again. You could think that you are, but
you know, there's a lot of competition out there, and
you know, moves that made during the season and players,
you know, in trades happen in the perfect case with Milwaukee,
(20:11):
a lot of guys who were free agents. So you know,
if you're Milwaukee, you do have the great player and
that's what you always want to build around. But it's
an interesting situation because I think that be Honest will
always stay in Milwaukee. But the big thing is he
wants to make sure that there are an organization that
is always trying to win. And I think right now
that that's why this summer is going to be a
pretty good test for ownership and management of the Milwaukee Bucks.
(20:34):
Everyone loved the Bucks. They were like, you know, the
little engine that could. But now it's about paying some
of these guys and trying to keep this thing together,
no question about it. Why has Brooklyn suddenly hopped in
the mix ahead of the Nixon Some people's estimation as
a possible destination for Kyrie and KG is the simplest ownership. Yeah,
and I think there's there's been a lot of that
coming from kind of the Kyrie camp, because of course
(20:56):
everyone has a camp, and you know, I think he
might look at the Brooklyn Nets is a little more
stable situation. Plus, remember the owner that's coming in, Joe sigh. Uh,
you know, you know, Chinese ownership. Think about all the
money that Kyrie Irvan could possibly make overseas, you know,
you start having that connection made as well, in terms
of endorsements and sponsorships and things like that. But from
(21:19):
everything that I've heard, Kyrie, if he were to leave Boston,
would like to live in his hometown of New York,
New Jersey. But right now he's leaning a little bit
more towards the Brooklyn Nets. But a lot could change
within the next you know, thirty plus days. But right
now Brooklyn does seem to be a legitimate player. Brooklyn
is just like the Clippers. They're the steps, the ugly
(21:41):
stepchild of the you know, the Knicks and also of
the Lakers. But right now both of them had better years,
and right now both of them are positioned to make
a big move. But will the tradition of those other
teams you know, be able to lure these big time
players away. It seems like the Clippers might have a
bit of an advantage because of Doc Rivers and Jerry West.
But the nets of a good job this season, and
at least they made themselves more attractive to potential free agents.
(22:04):
Awesome stuff. That's Frankie Solo. By the way, Frank d
had I hate predictions. Whatever do you who do you
think wins the finals? I'm gonna pick Golden State in six?
Like I said, the last, every game in the Oracle
will be uh you know, they'll get the one more
time with the trophy. I think it'll be a competitive
series early, especially with k d out still may be
competitive when he comes back. Well we we shall we
(22:24):
shall see. That's Frank Sol the frank thanks so much
for joining us man. Thanks Doug. Let's get to Dan Buyer,
who is back from Pebble Beach. Yeah. Speaking of golf, Doug,
your Oklahoma State Cowboys under the semi finals of the
Men's Golf Championships D one Championships. They beat SMU and
their quarterfinal match today, winning four out of the five
(22:46):
of those matches. The Cowboys are on a roll. Other dumb,
I mean, you know they have the they have the
reality show, the Golf School, reality show Driven. Matthew Wolf
won the individual uh yesterday, So yeah, you got a
problem calling the Wolf. Hey, Victor Hoblin's on that team.
He won the US Amateur last summer at Pebble Beach,
So yeah, a lot of a lot of good stuff
(23:07):
for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The top seed in these
uh golf Championships. What other Gulf now, by the way,
Tiger Woods. He's gonna play at Memorial this week. Team
off Thursday morning with Justin Rosen Bryson de Shambo in
his only tournament between the PGA Championship and US Open
that starts in two weeks at Pebble Beach. You guys
were just talking about the NBA Finals. Kevin Durant will
travel with the team to Toronto, but he's already been
(23:28):
ruled out for Game one on Thursday. Game two of
the finals takes place on Sunday night, Fox Sports One.
NBA analyst Rick Buker says that Kyrie Irving is likely
to choose between the Lakers or Nets this soft season
when he becomes a free agent. Philly Lee's outfielders O'dooble
Herrera has been put on administratively five Major League Baseball
following his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence police reports
(23:49):
as Herrera's girlfriend had injuries to her arm and neck
after allegedly being assaulted by the outfielder in Atlantic City
on Monday night. Raiders have signed free egent guard Richie Incognito,
who hasn't played since were tiring following the seventeen season.
We'll be back to the Doug Gottlieb Show in ten seconds.
But first the word from farmers at Farmers Insurance, we
know every windshield collision has a unique sound beetle bird, boop, drone,

(24:38):
ls Peal Beach there? Uh? It was amazing, it was.
We were very fortunate we got a beautiful day last week,
but it was difficult, Like the the skies were clear,
but the wind was blowing, the fairways were tied, and
the rough was thick and it will not be going
the other way. It will get even thicker as we
get closer to Pebble Beach. It is especially for an
(25:01):
amateur like me. I mean, these pros, you know, can
hack out of the rough and and limit the damage,
but when someone like me doesn't make as good of
ball contact as they do, it makes it very difficult
contact ball contact. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, that was awesome.
Um all right, well, I mean, look, well we're looking
(25:22):
forward to going up there. We're going up to to
Pebble Beach. You're going to right by. You're gonna be
there the whole weekend, aren't you. I'm not sure right
now what the plans are, but I know I think
we're broadcasting live Thursday and Friday, first two. It should
be it should be amazing, should be incredible music. You're
going you ever been to Pebble? Never been to Pebble?
And I don't know, but you know that sounds like
(25:44):
it could be a lot of fun. You don't know
if you're going. I do not know. Yeah, I don't know.
If I don't know if we decided to let you go.
And that was that was my email, Right, do you
want someone's gonna watch your almost It's just more like
do you want music to go? And I said no,
I mean yes, but you know I needed to come
out like I said, yes, but I really know. But anyway, um,
I saw this story and this is great. There are
(26:06):
going to be people that are going to tear apart
Richie Incognito, who was signed by the Oakland Raiders, and
probably rightfully so. Remember he seeing he's had a couple
of like emotional meltdowns as an offensive lineman, and the
Raiders signed Richie Incognito. Today, Mike Mayock, where she used
to cover him with the NFL Network, I took questions
(26:29):
from reporters. His quote is, you can't have all boy scouts.
Mayox said to Scott Blair of NBC Sports Bay Area
that Incognito has been fined whenever he's been socused focused
solely on on field activities and called the deal a
prove it one that will force Incognito to prove himself
(26:50):
on and off the field. He had that the team
will help Incognito help himself in terms of staying out
of trouble off the field, and the team doesn't know
if Incognito will face league discipline for as a result
of last year's incidents. Um last year's incident, if you remember,
he was placed on involuntary psychiatric hold in May after
(27:11):
allegedly throwing a dumbbell at another person during an incident
at jim He was rested in August for threatening to
shoot employees at a funeral hole following the handling of
his father's funeral service. So dude's dad died, He retired
from the NFL, and he went into the death spiral
and apparently has pulled himself out enough to where the
(27:31):
Raiders are going to give him a one to three
four fourth life or so in the NFL at least
third life in the NFL. Did I get Did I
tell you guys? My my Incognito story. I think I
told you, right, I think you told me, but it
was off air, okay, So I mean this is just
it's not anything. I just remember. It's not like this
(27:55):
is a lot like the Baxter Homes thing right where
you're like listening to these stories about the Lakers. You're like, Okay,
paint the picture. So I do hot yoga at a
place down the street from my house, and there's three
NBA head coaches and four NBA assistant coaches that UM
will come in periodically, mostly in the off season, one
(28:19):
or two in the regular season. Um and and and
get some yoga. I also have a couple of other
basketball friends. There's some there's been a couple of Charger players,
some Charger officials, and a lot of Charger officials wives
that have been this all the same yoga studio. So
(28:42):
I never forget like I got, you know, early morning
yoga and I'm doing it and there's a gigantic man
in the middle, and I sweat a lot and it's
hot yoga, so everybody's sweating a lot. But I remember like,
this is a big dude. But he looked like, I mean,
was in for a guy that big. He was fairly limber,
(29:03):
and he was totally getting after he's all tatted up,
and I was like, where do I know that guy from?
And at the end of the class, like you go
out and like you can take a shower or there's
like a area. Um it's actually the one where do
you guys see Dennis Rodman stole some something from a
yoga studio, Like that's the yoga studio, Like all this
(29:25):
stuff happens this one. So I remember we got it's
like fresh aired hits. She is pretty cold and you're
like sweating, you're drinking pounding water. And the guy's like
and I go like, would you think And he's like, man,
it's a good class. He's like this this being retired stuff.
It's for the birds. It's like, but it makes my
body feel so much better. Like where do I know
(29:45):
him from? And I'm looking at his tattoos in his
arm and I either texted or called Ryan Music, and
I was like, I think I just took a yoga
class with Richie Incognito, Like look a couple of things.
Richie and Cognito's was a really good lineman even after
them Amy thing Rinchy. Incognito has a everyone has a
um uh, either a self destruct button or an eject button. Right,
(30:11):
it's like you know those James Bond movies where you
dry the car like whatever you do. Don't such a
red button. Why that's self destruct all right. Some people's
button you have to like break glass, you have to
go through a bunch of things and then you gotta
hit it a couple of times before they self destruct.
Other guys, it's you know, you just barely touch it.
In incognito appears to be one of those guys that
(30:31):
has the very very lightly touched self destruct button. And
but the line that I love is Mayox saying, like
you can't have all boy scouts. If you listen to
the Dan Patrick show yesterday, I told you about I
was telling everybody like my son was pitching later that
(30:52):
day in a it's a pony tournament, uh for ten
year olds, and they are a like must thing league
all star team playing against club teams. Club teams are
made up of all club players. They're all star teams
made up of probably half club players, so there's a difference.
(31:12):
And he pitched, He pitched good the first inning, only
give up a run. Second inning, gave up eight and
as much as that sounds crazy, they got run ruled.
By the end of four innings, they've given up twenty
two runs. There's some defensive mishap school lore right, like
he only walked I think one guy um and they
hit him, but they didn't hit him that hard. It's
(31:33):
just we had kids playing the outfield that haven't played
the outfield because they're the best players on their team
in the league. And then some of our infielders didn't
have a good day. And so when I was talking
to my son and texting with the head coach, I
was like, look the other stuff. We can get them
better at fielding. But you know, we have too many
boy scouts. And I don't mean you don't necessarily need
(31:55):
a richie incognito, but you do need a guy that
a couple start making errors. Instead of pointing out the
guy who's making errors, and instead of being like the moms,
you're like, that's okay, you get everybody in, you look
them in the angle, let's go. Right, this is unacceptable,
Like let's go. And so with within the workings of
(32:16):
a locker room, you need a couple of crazy cats, right,
You just you need a you need a couple of
crazy cats. You need a couple of super religious guys.
You need a couple of just solid. You need a
bunch of solid dudes. But you can't have all boy scouts.
It's the National Football League. You need a little bit
of crazy. Too much crazy. It becomes like the Bungles
(32:40):
back before Marvin Lewis took over the when the Portland
Trailblazers were the Jailblazers. That's too much crazy, too much youth,
too much money, too much time, too much crazy. But
just putting you know, Vantes Perfect and Richie Incognito, that
doesn't change the culture of your team. That gives you
a little a bit of nastiness, you know, even Antonio Brown.
(33:05):
You need a little bit of an edge. Now. They
have to have skill, and who knows if he's even
got it left in the tank to play. And good
luck to Jon Gruden if you want to be the
guy that delivered the news to Richie Incognito that he's cut,
have fun with that conversation. But I agree, and most
people in sports degree like you gotta have a little
(33:25):
bit of nasty, got it, a little bit of nasty.
I can't have all boy scouts We know Kevin Ryant
won't be playing in game one, but what are the
chances of playing game two? Pay you next. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Doug dot Leap Show

being an airborne car. Seen it covered it. Dr Farmers,

confusing with terms like dealer price, list price, an invoice price.

This time they got lip show. We turned over to
Dan Buyer play game. This is game time side the
Doug gott Leap Show. What you got, my friend, Doug?
(34:27):
The game today? Iss? All right? Seven scenarios covering the
NBA and H and I foul. All right, let's dive in.
What are the chances Doug that Kevin Durant plays for
the Warriors in game two of the NBA Finals, as
you will travel with the team to Toronto but not
play in game one. I'm gonna say a chance you
(34:51):
find it interesting that he's traveling with the team. No, Um,
what they'll do is they'll do, you know, workouts. Uh,
you know, because as much as you have guys that
can stay behind and work with him, you know, all
their trainers, all their staffs, they all go. Because it's
such a long road trip that the space between game
one and game two, I think he probably feels like
(35:12):
get more done. Plus he wants to be involved and
want to just sit there and watch on on his couch. Um,
and you can get a kind of better feel for
the series. I think it'd be harder to go from
not playing and not playing in one and two and
not they're even watching it, watching it on TV, that
then playing in game three. I don't think he plays,
which is less than fifty I don't think he plays,
(35:33):
But I do think he's got to get a feel
for the pace of the series and what guys are doing.
The best way to do that is to be in person.
What are the chances that DeMarcus Cousins plays in the
NBA Finals for the Warriors. Is he's questionable in Game
one with a quad injury? Uh in in the finals? Yes,
very strong. I'm gonna go interesting because there seemed to
(35:56):
be in a flow, you know, but they Hey, if
he's healthy, he's healthy, and he's gonna white alright. I
don't know if it screws up their flow. Look, they're
gonna need somebody to bang with Marcus al They're gonna need,
you know, they're gonna need. They're gonna then and I
held you up some minutes for them, So that that's
my thinking there. What are the chances that Kyrie Irving
leaves Boston this offseason? As Rick Buker says, it's down
to the Nuts and Lakers. I think pretty I think
(36:18):
pretty good. I think eighty five percent chance he leaves.
You know, he just doesn't necessarily fit their culture. I'm
not sure whose culture he does fit, but I don't
definitely don't think he fits their culture alright, Doug, What
are the chances that the other top prep players in
the States will follow R. J. Hampton's path and play
in New Zealand or Australia instead of going to college. Um,
(36:39):
I just think we're gonna until the rule changes, We're
gonna get a couple of year. You know, Um we
got I think Darius Basilton last year. You know you're
gonna get a couple of a year. So there's like
an eighty five percent chance somebody's gonna do it. Um,
it's to what level of success. Sure. My thing is
like is whatever amount the money you're making and his
(37:01):
parents aren't like down and desperate. But if everyone and
money you're making so life changing that you can't wait
a year and run the benefit of you know, going
to school. Like the great thing about college is not
only do they promote you and you get developed as
a person some of your academic resume, some of your
athletic resume, but it also gives you a fallback. Um.
(37:21):
The only thing it doesn't give you is an immediate
payout that you can get playing professional basketball. But you
may you may not make it to the NBA, Like
there are there's going the more guys go, somebody's gonna
get hurt or somebody's gonna be bad and not get drafted.
Like these things are going are going to happen. Um,
But I think there's a chance that this happens in
a yearly basis until twenty two, when it's expected that
(37:42):
they'll be able to come straight at high school. What
are the chances that Cowboys running back Ezekiel Alia gets
suspended by the NFL? As the lead reviews the incident
where he allegedly pushed the security guard at the music
festival a little over a week ago. I didn't feel
like he pushed the security guard. I feel like he
did what's called big boyd the security guard. Um, that
may be some antics to people, and you're probably right
in terms of it being semantics to people, but it's interested,
(38:05):
you know, I don't. It doesn't feel suspension worthy unless
you facture in the fact that he's got to be
an idiot to put himself in this position, considering he's
been suspended previously. Right, So, UM, I'm gonna say only
at chance he gets suspended, because at the end of
the day you look at it and you're like, yeah,
(38:25):
I don't see a lot there. I feel if you
look up big boy in the dictionary, you would have
three different definitions. You'd have what you would say, you
would also have L A D J. Right, and you
would also have the restaurant chain. Well you also have
you'd also have the guy from Outcast that's different spelling them.
(38:45):
But yes, one of the chances that Marvin Lewis becomes
a head coach in the NFL again, as he just
signed on to be an adviser to HERM Edwards at
Arizona State. I don't see it. I don't see it.
Uh uh. You know, two disastrous runs, granted, too bad
franchise at the time, really hard to come back from
the second one, you know, and in his second head
(39:06):
coaching stint, he want to combine one game over two years. Yeah,
I don't see it happening. I'm gonna say ten percent. Yes,
Oh no, I'm sorry. No, I was Marvin Lewis. Uh,
this is the s B I was. I was. I'm sorry.
I was going a Hugh Jackson. I forgot Marvin Lewis. Maybe, um,
(39:30):
you know, thirty five percent chance because he's he did
have a successful run, he did turn around their culture.
He didn't win a playoff game, but remember he also
lost Carson Palmer once and then they had that really
crazy ending Vonte's perfect custom. Also the trend in the
NFL of hey, let's get the young assistant. You know
who who wanted that head coach sixteen years experience and
(39:50):
that can that can flip back in a heartbeat. Good.
But it's not where we are right now. This is
game time. I'm the Duck Gottlieb Show, Sametimes, brought to

Hope you're having a great Tuesday. Summer has kind of
arrived in southern California. It's been cool, it's been wet,
but now all of a sudden, it's beautiful. I know
many of you in the Midwest dealt with a lot
(41:17):
of storms. I hope you're safe. I hope your property
is okay. I hope you get a chance to get
the lake to the river, enjoy this beautiful country. Um
wasn't on the show yesterday because I guess hosted the
Dan Patrick Show. But I can't think of anything more
heroic then then trying to preserve our country and so
(41:41):
you know, Memorial Day. I don't like to get super hokey.
I can only tell you that people who have served
in many ways better citizens than me, and to serve
and give the ultimate sacrifice. I can't imagine what those
families go through, but we should appreciate it. And one
great way to appreciate it is to get out and live.
(42:02):
Just go see the world, go see the country. We're
going to the US Open, which is in Pebble Beaches
in northern California. It's only about five hours from here.
I could hop on a Southwest flight at a burbank
and in forty five minutes, you know, maybe in San
Jose and then take an uber ride down. But it
just I don't know you ever you guys ever done
(42:24):
the ride, They're done the drive. I've done it once,
but I don't remember it because the cliffs and all
those kind of hairy hairpin turns those are after San
Luis Obispo. I've been up to San Luis Obispo and
back hundreds of times, so I'm gonna drive my way
up there, I think. Anyway, that quick aside, The Doug
Gotli Show is brought to you by Farmers. At Farmers,
(42:46):
we've seen almost everything, so we're gonna cover almost anything
on it's game time. I have an experienced player help
you stay out of the game, but their experience in
plant farmers dot Com. So I think I know what's
going to happen in series. I understand it's easy to
troll Charles Barkley, who said the Warriors wouldn't win a
(43:10):
series without Kevin Durant and then they win four straight
games against the Portland Trailblazers, and suddenly he looks like
a complete and total buffoon to somebody who looks at
the results. But if you looked at the process, they
were down seventeen in game two, down eighteen game three,
down seventeen in game four, and came back and won
(43:33):
those games. That is playing with fire. Now I know
they're taking on a Raptor's team. Those down four, uh
in their own right in game six in which they
just won, comebacks do happen? It is the NBA. Every
game seems to be tied in the fourth quarter. But
you get down seventeen, eighteen, and seventeen points in three
(43:55):
consecutive games out of just four, you are and no
one thinks of the Trailblazers as the second best team
in the NBA in the Western Conference. Uh, they're They're
They're probably the second best team in the Pack Northwest,
and they're the only NBA team in the Pack Northwest.
They're a good team, but they overachieved this offseason and
ultimately that it got exposed. But the Raptors were built
(44:19):
for this time of year, right, Well, Well, I'm not
a huge Kyle Lowry fan. At this point in his career,
Kyle Lowry has been an All Star. Victor Oladipo has
seen the wars and he too has played in the
NBA Finals. And of course they went out and got
Danny Green, who can't get the broadside of the barn.
But you're not gonna leave him open because at this
(44:39):
time of the year, those type of guys usually flourish.
And then they have Kauhi Leonard who's playing like the
best or second best player in the game. This one
feels different then the Portland series. It doesn't feel as
flukey at all. And while Portland's came in, Gay asked,
(45:03):
and if the series would have started yesterday or today,
you could have said the same thing about Toronto. Toronto
doesn't have to travel. They're gonna have four full days off.
They're a deep roster and they may be getting one
more rotation or starter back anyway, so you would think
that they're going to be arrested. The attrition of a
(45:23):
thirteen games of the past two series on a younger
team doesn't appears to be as troublesome. I feel like
this is the series where a lot like the Clippers,
a lot like the Rockets that at some point in
time you go like, oh, hey, Kevin Durant's the best
player on this floor, right. Kevin Durant in the playoffs
(45:48):
this year averaging thirty four point two points per game
for perspective in seventeen, the average twenty eight and a
half points per game. In eighteen, the average twenty nine
points per game. He's shooting a higher percentage than last
year and averaging five more points per game, uh than
he did last year. He's a two time finals MVP.
(46:11):
And what's fascinating about the they might be better without
Kevin Durant. Do we remember the fact that when they
had Kevin Durant and they were fully healthy, they went
sixteen and one two years ago in the playoffs, and mean,
they just kicked a live in hell out of everybody
in their way. And the only loss, the only loss
was to the Calves in the NBA Finals, and Caybrie
(46:31):
went crazy with forty and Lebron was Lebron with thirty one.
That's combined seventy one of the hundred and thirty seven
points at the Calves court. They just hit everything. Kevin
Love at three one game in the NBA Finals and
then the next game, essentially Kevin Durant ended the series.
So I think he's been the best player in the
(46:54):
league for the last two years. People finally come round
to it. This year. He didn't make first team on
NBA even though he should have. People were questioning him
against the Clippers, and then three after the at the
third game on he just was kicking everybody's ass. The
same thing was happening in Houston and everybody was struggling.
And it feels destined to be one of those series
where we start to go like, hey, Toronto is better
(47:16):
than we thought, Kawhi learns better than we thought, and
the Golden State Warriors don't have the benefit of playing
an exhausted team or maybe a bit of an overachieving
team like they did against Portland's And this is a
series until Kevin Durant rides in on the white Horse,
rides in the white Horse saves the day. I mean,
(47:36):
an ideal, made for a hot made for TV, or
made for a Hollywood scenario. I can't think of a
better one. Can't think a better one for for Kevin Durant.
Now if they win without him, does that change some
of it does he come back and hurt some of
their chemistry potentially? Potentially, but I think the strongest likely
(48:02):
it is here's a guy who all he has wanted
has been respect and admiration for his level of skill.
He earned it against the Clippers, he was getting it
against the Rockets, and while there have been some seeds
of disrespect planted, he will harvest them when he gets
(48:22):
into a series that the team is likely to struggle
in before he gets back. Yes, right, doesn't this feel
like the particular matchup of Kawhi Leonard being the Raptors
clearly their best player and go to player offensively seem
like it's finally gonna show just how badly that the
Warriors need to rant, just based off of that, because
(48:43):
I mean, like when they were matched up against the Trailblazers,
they're trying to work through Damian Lillard and s McCollum,
who are both Lillards not nearly as good as Curry,
and McCollum isn't as good as Clay Thompson. So it's
going to be this is the time that they're finally
going to notice how much they need someone like to rant. Yes, Yes,
this is a step up in weight class in Portland Trailblazers.
(49:04):
The problem is we deal with some dated information, right,
we go with, oh, the West is always better. Well,
in this particular year, it's not the case, especially considering
who advanced. It's just not Portland wasn't even at full strength.
It didn't have Nurkics, and so that changed how they
had to play um And because they didn't have a
(49:24):
good enough three or four or five, you could double
team c J McCullum or Damian Lillard off of ball screens.
So yes, I think the Raptors are the real deal.
I think. I thought Milwaukee was really good. I think,
and and you look positionally, you know you're gonna have
to have either Draymond or more than likely Andrea Godala
(49:47):
match up with Kawai Leonard. And while Andrea Goodala is
an amazing defender, tremendous defender, he's been banged up and
it completely wears him out. And if you have a
Goodala on the floor, that does limit some of the
things you can do offensively. And they don't really have
anybody else in the roster outside of Durant when he's
healthy that can do a great job checking him, maybe Looney,
(50:10):
I guess a little bit. I guess Clay can too,
a little bit big, a little bit strong for Clay.
I mean their their rosters matched up where they can
match up with with with Kawai and learned fairly well. Um,
but Kevin Durant is the best because he can make
Kauai letter defend at the other end at a very
very high Excuse me, I mean, look, Kawai learned, got
(50:35):
his against Janice. How do you think he's gonna do
against Whether it's Looney, I think obviously Clay will do
a great job on him. I think it's a fascinating series,
but I think there's gonna be some struggles there from
Golden State. Doesn't mean I think they absolutely lose one
and two, but they'll be underdogs in one and two,
especially without him. Coming up next, we'll check him with
(50:56):
the Bay Area. How do they match up with the
Raptors without and with k D. We'll also go to
l A. Are the Rams really worried about Todd Gurley's knee?
And we'll go to Dallas. Should the Cowboys be concerned
that Zeke Elly is gonna miss games because of his
latest off the field misapp. We got guys all over
the place. We'll take you to l A, Dallas and

You know, sounds like you need a guy. I got
(52:31):
a guy. Mark Willard joins us afternoon drive host on
can b R in the Bay Area at Mark Underscore
t Underscore. Willard, of course moved up to northern California
from southern California. Mark four you Uh, but before we
get to your thoughts on the Warriors getting ready for
this series, Um, you were here when Magic and Polinka
(52:57):
took over the Lakers. Now after two years of running
the Lakers and the backstro Homes piece comes out, what
are your thoughts? Not surprised, not surprised at all and
by the way, but um, but not surprised at all.
The only surprise for me, um, and I probably shouldn't
have been, is that the majority of Laker fans have
(53:20):
found a way to turn this into all rob Oblinka's fault,
which is normal. It's the exact same thing that happened
when lebron billboards went up or or murals went up,
and people to save them because uh, they are so
little to Kobe, as if that was then had anything
to do with each other. But the same dynamic is
(53:41):
happening here with with Magic Johnson having everyone on on
his side when it probably shouldn't be that way. The
Lakers are going through the same thing the USC went
through at one point when they wouldn't hire anybody that
wasn't supposedly from the tree. The Lakers keep starting out
old team photos whenever they need to hire somebody new.
(54:02):
Why don't they keep doing that? Um, they're going to
be continuing to to live in the past and and struggle.
Magic Johnson was one of the greatest point guards of
all time, but allowing the other basketball related stuff that
he's done has has not worked. Can't agree with you. Um,
how did the Warriors match up with the Raptors without
(54:24):
k D? Yeah, you know this is gonna be an
interesting one because everyone's gonna well, they sweat and I
lost the game without KD. But it's like, Okay, Portland
was one thing and they were down by seventeen or
eighteen points and three out of those four teams. I
can tell you this being over in the facility just
a couple of days ago. Even the war we're posted
(54:44):
the world themselves. He's not feeling, you know, like they've
got their chest out and uh, and they're pumping it
and they're overly competent here. This is uh, you know,
I don't know when Kevin is gonna come back, or
if Kevin is gonna come back, and if he doesn't,
with so without home court advantage, it's a it's a
losable series. Now. I do think that if Danny Green
(55:06):
doesn't hit shots, then you end up with a Toronto
backcourt that is really gonna struggle with steps ain't play
um and obviously defensively, with guys like Draymond on the floor,
the ultimate defensive Swiss Army Knights. That's gonna help Ago
Donaldy's healthy again, and so that's gonna help with guys
like like Kauaide. But you know Toronto, Toronto has some
(55:29):
different things that they can provide use of Gassol and
and Danny Green and and if aka, if those guys
started getting shots um and Katie doesn't play, Yeah, that's
one could go on. Marco Willard our our guest, when
do you think he plays? My best guest right now
would be that they are targeting the home games. They're
(55:51):
targeting games three, game four, and I would be shocked
if he plays in We've already announced obviously game one,
but obvious Shocked could be plays in game two and
and I don't think there are any uh guarantees beyond that,
But I think the way of the timeline kind of
stacks up. That's you know, don't reevaluate again here uh
in uh in a couple of days right as the
(56:11):
series is starting, and then they would hope to try
to get them to practice for a good you know,
four or five days. And I think in the back
of their mind they're hopeful maybe game free, constantly optimistic
game four. I think that's the timeline they're hoping for.
But that evaluation that's gonna come in the next forty
eight hours and we'll tell more about that story. Is
(56:34):
there any chance in your mind that Kevin Durant days
there's a chance. Yeah, I don't think it's a good one.
I don't think it's a good one. And I you know,
I think so much. It's always last for to meet
when people go you know, I haven't thought about it yet,
or I haven't uh, I haven't decided yet. It's like
he doesn't make life decisions like this by going together
(56:56):
one night and waking up and going this is what
I'm gonna do, no matter how many some guys tell us.
But that's the way they play it. It's not the
way they play it. And so there's a reason that
everyone who knows that an averageable media person and everyone
around the game is all thinking he's gonna lead. And
now you add in this injury and the warrior's playing
well without him, and it will be narratives about they
don't need to and and all that good stuff. So
(57:19):
I don't think that it's likely, but I will say this,
within the last one of six weeks there's been kind
of a renewed I don't know if optimism is the
right way, but I was tout stealing around the relationships
within the organization. Zion I'm not going to the Knicks
might help in some sort of a way. I think
(57:41):
there's room for a change of heart. I put it
that way. Interesting stuff. I tend to agree with you.
Nothing is final until it is in fact final. Mark
Willard from k n b R joining us, Well, thanks

(58:02):
let Jared Golf walk uh. Speaking of walking, we're worried
about Todd Gurley walking correctly, Jay Glazier in his UH
in his mail bag essentially said that they're they're they're
pessimistic about his knee ever being right in the future.
What are you hearing about Todd Gurley's knee. Yeah, I
think there's definitely guarded um opportunism or I mean, they've
(58:26):
certainly gone out uh and and helped themselves in terms
of UH protecting themselves in a case in a worst
case scenario with Todd, the drafting of Darrell Henderson, who
they you know, UH drafted last April, a guy that
you know on other teams would be the guy that
would be the guy. So now you know, perfect scenario,
he comes in and a change of pace running back
(58:48):
that that Sean mcbacon can put in his bag of trips,
tricks and and and utilize to accentuate the offense. But
in their worst case scenario, he's the guy that provides
insurance in case Todd Gurley, even Todd Gurley anymore, We're
never gonna that question is not going to be answered
until this season. I mean, we could all speculate, we
could all talk him here at O t A S.
Right now, he's not here. He's working out with his
(59:10):
his own personal trainer on his own personal schedule. The
Rams are okay with that, but until we actually see
him on the football field and training camp, which we
probably won't see much of him. At that point, it's
gonna be what do we see from Todd Gurley in
the regular season, And that's when all answers are are
all questions are gonna be answered. Right now. It's kind
of frustrating not knowing, but you know, a couple of
months will have a much better idea. Fair enough. Your
(59:32):
article is in response to Mike Florio uh talking about
the possibility of the Raiders Raids the Rams letting Jared
Goff walk um, what's what? How do they feel about
Jared Goff within the confines of their offices. I mean
they feel like they hit a grand flam home not
only with him, but then carrying him with with Sean mcveay.
(59:54):
And here's a quarterback that you know, there's two quarterbacks
in the NFL that have played in all sixteen games
last few years. Yes, he played fifteen games, but that
was only because they sat him that last game. It
wasn't an injury type situation. But there's only two two
quarterbacks that have played the last two full seasons with
over one quarterback ratings and let the team's division titles,
and one is Drew Brees and one is Jared Goff.
(01:00:16):
Uh and one of them also is the defending NFC champion,
two time Pro Bowl quarterback. They went to the Super
Bowl last year. They're looking at this as Jared goff
is getting ready to approach his prime, and it makes
no sense to them. Um not sees that when he's
gonna be able to command the office. And you're I'm
watching him in O T A S right now and
you can already see improvements from last year and and
(01:00:37):
how he's handling these the line of scrimmage. They're not
gonna give up to go start all over with somebody else.
And this you know, the notion that Sean mcvacan just
pick somebody you know in the first round, second round
and developed him into a great quarterback. You know, in theory,
that sounds great, but even he knows that it's all
about the talent first and foremost, and he has a
quarterback that he believes in in Jared Goff. Uh And
(01:00:59):
and as though there's no way short of a complete
nose dive by Goff the next couple of years that
they're not going to find him to a long term
contract and build around him. Benny Bunsen your covers the
Rams for AM five seventy and for The Athletic. Check
out his piece why the Rams Won't let Jared Goff Walk.
Plus he talked a lot with us about about Todd
Gurley's kneed. Thanks so much for joinings. Vinnie, all right,
(01:01:20):
take care man. I got a guy, Matt Moseley, Cowboys
insider for Press DFW dot com. He's a radio host
as well in ESPN Central Texas. Um, what's reaction from
Cowboys fans regards to ezekiel It's latest mishap? Oh? You know,
I think, uh, they were broadside a little bit because
(01:01:41):
the narrative had become that he had had this great turnaround,
he'd done so many wonderful things in the community, and
so I don't think it's shocked. I think mainly they
just think there's not much to see here, and so
I think Cowboys fans have not tried factor all the
other things that Goodell might factor in, and they're just
(01:02:04):
looking at you know, he was a little snockered in
that Lakers jersey. I think they're more upset with him
wearing that Lakers jersey than anything that happened at the
Daisy Carnival, whatever that was. I know, Doug, you go
to those things. I've not been to one of those,
but yeah, I don't there's not there's not been a
huge reaction especially, I mean certainly not anything where they
(01:02:26):
seem real frustrated and angry at ut seek for messing up.
I mean they immediately, I mean, these are sheep. They
immediately ran to his defense, and we're blaming the security
guard and the electronic music and everything else that was
going on. Yeah, I mean, I just don't understand how
could be such right like what he did was not
(01:02:49):
it wasn't necessarily criminal. It was just dumb, just dumb.
Well what's the point, you know? Yeah, I mean it
happened at what three am? Uh and uh, you know
you just kind of stay in the casino at that point,
you know, you could be up late there's nothing going on.
But uh, yeah, I mean I don't think he But
you know, again, if you've got a few pops in you,
(01:03:11):
if you're one of these dance festivals at three in
the morning, I don't you know, I don't think. I
don't think we're expecting big things from Zeke at that point.
Now you would think you would like to think these
guys make these decisions and oh man, I've got some
other stuff that I've done. I got to really keep
my nose clean. But they just don't. And the Cowboys
don't think this is a big enough deal to put
(01:03:31):
the security detail on him like they did for Dez
a few years ago. I mean Dez, you know, the
Cowboys laid off like fifteen security people. I think when
when Dez wasn't here anymore. I mean it literally you
talked to the security people in Dallas that the it's
like the uh it's like the whole way to the
world was off their shoulders. I mean they had to
kind of keep thinking, you know, keep an eye on
(01:03:53):
things when he was out and about, and they just
haven't really done that with Zeke. Maybe they should. Yeah,
what about dak contract. Where are they with that? Oh?
You know, I don't think there's uh, I mean, I
think they'd love to get it done before the season starts, obviously,
and uh, I think it could certainly happen before training camp.
It's more likely that will happen maybe during training camp.
(01:04:15):
I don't think they They years ago they let Tony
play into the final year of his contract. Well, he
made him pay because he put up big numbers in
two thousand and seven, and they're already going to give
this guy huge numbers. So there's really no point in
their minds or anybody's mind of watching him play into
the season. Although I did would be kind of fun
to watch him play into the final year of his contract.
(01:04:37):
Watch Garrett coach into the final year of his time tract.
You have kind of a nice combo there. But I
don't think they will. I think they'll get this thing
done and he'll come in at about thirty million a year. Um, yeah,
thirty million sounds a lot. It seems like a lot
for that's that's top ten quarterback money. He's not a
top ten quarterback. Man. Well, I'm he may I I
(01:05:01):
probably would agree with you. I mean, he I think
he's knocking on the door ten eleven, you know, somewhere
right there, but when you look at Kirk Cousins making
twenty eight million a year, you look at car what's five.
I mean, it's sort of the going or eight and
it really gets out of you. And I I mean
his timing is right. He's been severely based on his
(01:05:24):
winning percentage and the way he's performed in his numbers,
he's been severely underpaid his first three seasons. And now
we'll make the argue of it that he's gonna get overpaid.
But he's coming in about thirty mill per year, and
I don't think there's any There's just absolutely no doubt
about that, even though Stevens trying to get him to
because you know the cowboys wearing the stars, they're trying
(01:05:46):
to convince him this will make things lucrative for you
down the road. You'll get broadcasting opportunities, all sorts of things.
When we saw that, hell that worked out for Witt
and he got a great opportunity, but it didn't work out.
So I don't think I don't think that will be
very open to that. That whole thing, awesome stuff that

I don't think I saw this story. R J. Hampton,
number five prospect and ESPN one class two thousand nineteen,
announced where he was going to play next season earlier today.
(01:08:40):
Um and he it was kind of a surprise announcement.
He's gonna play in New Zealand in the Australian Basketball
League known as the nb L. My number one goal
is playing in the n b A. I wanted to
be an NBA player before I ever wanted to be
a college player. This isn't about getting ready for the
next level, faster and more fit. This is about getting
ready for the next level faster and more efficiently. Both
(01:09:01):
my parents went to college. My mom got her master's degree.
Education is a big thing in our family. But this
is about focusing on present on basketball. You can always
go back to college. There's only a short window as
an athlete where you can play professional basketball, and I
want to take advantage of that. I think challenging yourself
on a daily basis is the best way to improve.
Hampton six five six eight wingspan um And you know
(01:09:26):
he's a he's like all those guys now right, like
plays the ball in his hands, goes downhill. And I
do think that playing professional basketball should help him against
professionals against But there's a reason that the best now,
the best teams in the world are not in Australia.
You can get better playing in New Zealand. You can
(01:09:46):
get better. You can also get put on playing in
the States. Yeah, I just I don't really understand this logic, Like,
go play for Kansas, go play for bill self, have fun,
try on a big twelve championship. How experience something that
nowhere else in the world can you experience it? And
(01:10:08):
oh yeah, by the way, you know right now he's
the number of five, number six, prospects. Some draft boards
ha him six, you know, didn't exactly hurt Zion, who
was projected at the top twenty pick and now is
the unanimous number one pick overall. He's a household name.
And it's not because just because he's gotten better. It's
(01:10:28):
because he played for Duke. Right. Are people gonna crowd
around TV scenes to watch the Australian I mean we've
had Terrence Ferguson went and played in Australia. Anybody watch him? No?
But regardless, Like, look, I just there's this. It's a
red herring. This argument got to change the rules why
(01:10:50):
guys can go play in the G League. They've always
been able to go play the G League right out
of high school. If you're so good and so popular
that you can get a shoot deal, go get a
shoot deal. Your shoe deal will be helped out by
playing in college. And I think it's fascinating that it's like, look,
there's there's no amount of money, no amount of money
that is going to be enough money to satisfy the friends,
(01:11:14):
the family, the sickophants, the radio host for colleges that
they'll all say like, well if you if you said
you could pay a guy ten tho dollars? Why not twenty?
If you say twenty, why not thirty? If you say thirty,
why not fifty. Colleges offer you a great opportunity to
get into a school you probably couldn't get into, to
(01:11:34):
play for school you can never play for otherwise. And
oh yeah, by the way, r J May, I mean
r J Hampton may think he may come back and
go to college. He has no idea how hard that
actually is. Whereas if you go to play to college
and you leave in good standing, you can come back
whenever you want. You're on full scholarship. But I don't
this is not a bad thing. It's a it's a
(01:11:55):
great risk. And if you told me at a high school, like, hey, dude,
you can go hang out and all in New Zealand
and Australia and play professional basketball and then in a
year you'll be in the NBA. You just gotta work
hard and have fun. Like all right, I haven't known
You're you're you're missing out. You're missing out on rock
Chalk Jayhawk, You're missing out on being a legend on
campus and playing a rap playing in front of you know,
(01:12:18):
ten thousand people are so who are your age. But
it's not this is not a bad plan. I don't
think it's as rewarding in terms of enjoyable experience and
personal growth. It's not a not a bad plan, but
it's also one that doesn't point out, well, this is
a trend. All it should point out is guys don't
(01:12:38):
have to go to college. They've never had to go
to college. You know, Brandon Jennings did this was he
a trend center and he, by the way, went to Italy.
And if you notice none of these guys are going
to Italy anymore. You know why because Italian teams want
to win now, and you can't win with some young
guy you're supposed to develop. That's not how they roll.
The reason he had offer from China is China is
(01:13:00):
not a very good league, has a bunch of money,
and I actually think picking New Zealand is smart because
that style of basketball will make you better, We'll make
you tougher. I mean, Jimmifer Dead had a dropped eighty
in China and even then he had to come back
and have a workout for uh the Utah Jazz before
they finally signed him. And he probably's not gonna be
(01:13:21):
back next year. So when the top teams in the
world aren't signing you, and it's just to understand where
you are, it's okay, Like the world is not going
to spin off its axis. But if you open up
the NBA to high school players, you're just gonna completely
deplete the college ranks and you're gonna water down the
(01:13:44):
NBA with guys that are so young you're not gonna
see him for a couple of years. And everyone's chasing
that baseball system, and anybody who's everything through the baseball
system knows it sucks because you don't get paid until
too late in your career. We also need to stop
with the you have a small window for basketball like
not really, Like Dirk could barely walk and was still playing.

Buker earlier today on The Herd with Colin Calherd, talking
about Kyrie Irving's free agency. The latest that I've heard
(01:15:07):
is that it's between Brooklyn and the Lakers, And I've
heard that the Lakers and Kobe Bryant. Now Kobe told
me or indicated to me that he was not involved,
that he was Hey, that's their deal. I'm not part
of it, but I was told in the last twenty
four hours Kobe has been busy recruiting Kyrie, in particular
(01:15:27):
to try to get him to the Lakers. Now, everything
that I've heard, I would still expect that Kyrie is
is going to go to Brooklyn. That's the odds on favorite.
They grew up in Jersey like the Nats. And if
we're going to continue our real estate, he just bought
a place in South Orange. Where do you find out
(01:15:48):
where who's your who's your realtors? It's not it's not realtors,
it's it's people that know what they're doing business wise.
So I'm not even because we're gonna go out to
dinner tonight, I'm not even gonna give you. I'm not
even gonna give you my address. Just find it. Okay, Okay,
I don't care about where you're living. I want to
know where you're going. That was Rick Buke earlier today
(01:16:09):
on with Colin Cowherd. Look, I think some of this
general dysfunction actually suits in with the Lakers, actually suits
Kyrie Irving quite well because in a normal kind of
stable environment where or the environment that Lebron wanted, where
Lebron runs the show. That was kind of what turned
(01:16:29):
Kyrie off about playing with Lebron the past was actually
playing it was playing for team Lebron. The Lakers, they're
still trying to figure out who they are and in
the formative stages he may like that. And as much
as you say you want to play for the Nets,
do you want to play for the Nets? Do you
(01:16:50):
want to play for the Clippers? Do you want to
play for the Nets? Do you want to play for
the second team in a city? Usually the answer is no.
Now the Nets have gotten stars in the past, the
Nets were The dream scenario for the Nets was Remember
was Darren Williams and Dwight Howard a couple of years
ago and they got Darry Willams and never got Dwight Howard.
(01:17:12):
Funny how those things work out. So the Nets have
been discussed at nauseum. Brooklyn is hot in New York.
I mean it is the spot to be and they
have a new owner. Chinese money over two and a
half million dollars paid for the for the thing. They
got a cool arena. But that ain't the Knicks. I
don't know. I just when you start running out of
(01:17:34):
places to go, you start going back to what you know.
And it's the reason that most people live and work
close to home don't move away is because you you
go with what you know. And as much as you
can say, well, that's why you do the Jersey. But
Jersey and Brooklyn aren't the same place. They're relatively close,
but they're virtually opposites. Are just different spots. And what
(01:17:56):
I'm saying, well, you know is you know the Lebron thing,
you know how to function within it. You know it
can be frustrating, but you also know the upside, and
the upside is a championship, you know. I think the
whole thing is fascinating. I have no idea where Kyrie
is going. I don't know if Kyrie even knows where
Kyrie is going. He did the Uncle Drew thing, but
(01:18:19):
he did that in New York. Although if you want
to do movies, there isn't any better place to do
movies than in Los Angeles. And tie yourself to the
brand that is the Lakers. And the question is is
the brand taking such a beating recently that it's not
a stronger brand. I don't think it's taken that much
of a beating. I still think it's the Lakers. I
still think they have Lebron. And if you have Kyrie
and Lebron reunited, I think that that's powerful. Powerful Now,
(01:18:45):
like any couple that gets remarried after getting married and divorced.
There's a reason they got divorced to begin with, and
just like Cleveland and Lebron, ultimately that was doomed to fail.
It would be fun to watch, and I'm not sure
that Kyrie's not to that point yet. Doug Alim Show
(01:19:06):
has brought to you by Discover Card. We treat you
like you'd treat you. Yes, Ryan Music, Do you think
the smarter approach for Lebron would be too sort of?
I guess you could almost say, like distance himself from
the whole Lakers drama, Like if he's pitching these free agents,
just saying like, hey, obviously, look, I know all this
(01:19:27):
stuff that's been said about Rob and Magic and all
that stuff, but like, don't worry, I'm actually in charge.
You know, I'm taking more control of this now. So
like that's why you can come play for us. I
gotta handle on all of it. Or would it be
like put his arm around Rob and be like, let's
put all that other stuff in the past and present
a unified front. That's the smartest thing to do. But
(01:19:48):
you know he didn't do it at the press conference
for Frank Vogel. He's never done that previously, and even
if he's recruiting people now he's doing it on social
media and trying to do his own thing. No question
though that the best front is United Front. But I
don't I don't know if that's how Lebron rolls or
(01:20:09):
it doesn't feel like that's how he rolls, And does
anybody look at Lebron James go you know what he is.
He's a guy who likes to work well with others
and work under the leadership of others. Like that doesn't
seem like who he is as a guy. I don't
know that. That's that's my basic take on on Braun,
on how he just it would be a good idea,
(01:20:32):
It would be the right thing, and they could say, like,
look all that stuff may be true, but we got
all this cast space and we figured out a coach,
we got a really good like Lebron right now should
be on local radio, on national TV. He should have
done the TNT thing, he should do the ESPN thing
he's not going to, and he should be sitting there
and pitching that the Lakers are going to be great
next year. And he should say I know who we're
(01:20:53):
getting even before they get him, even if he doesn't
know who they're getting, but that's not who he's ever been.
Speaking of the Lakers, there's a piece that had long
been brewing, often been discussed, and had hadn't it yet
dropped that was supposedly a takedown piece of Magic Johnson.
(01:21:14):
It came out today, takedown piece of magic of Rob

(01:22:08):
I actually got a couple of really good night's sleep
this weekend. It's a weird weekend, right Memorial Day weekend.
And wherever you were, with exception of places where there
was uh severe weather, I think it was hot everywhere,
like Ramos. I can't think of any time which on
Memorial Day in Los Angeles people are going like enough
with the rain. But it was really rainy and misty
(01:22:30):
where we were on Was that Saturday afternoon or Sunday
Sunday afternoon? Right? So yeah, Usually a Moori Day weekend
is obviously the r at the beginning of summer technically, right,
that's what it's labeled as. It's usually warm, it's usually hot,
and and you out at the beach and you know
you're barbecuing, and you're right, it was very overcast and
rainy and kind of dull. H Well, it allowed me
(01:22:54):
to get some good night's sleep and maybe even too
much so right where I went to sleep and then
I fell asleep early last night. I woke up at
like four thirty in the morning. Oh I got it.
Sit fourth thirty, and I do what you shouldn't do,
which is look at your phone. I looked at my
phone and I saw some tweets about a Laker story
was gonna drop, and now I was like, okay, now
(01:23:15):
I'm not going to sleep. A guy named Baxter Holmes
rights for ESPN dot com and it had long been
rumored that when Magic resigned. One of the reasons he
resigned was there was this kind of heads up from
the folks at ESPN who had once worked for that
(01:23:38):
they were dropping it. There was gonna be a piece
that they worked on, and it was a I don't
have a takedown piece. But there was a lot of
negativity towards Maggie Johnson. So when it came out, like look,
it paints the picture of Magic Johnson as somebody who
wanted the job but didn't show up often. You know,
(01:23:59):
there's it says, you know, sometimes he's there once a week,
sometimes there's one's every couple of weeks. And then it
talks about the way in which he verbally undressed people.
Some claim that he gave him anxiety. There's a little
bit of a cleaning house. There are resignations, there were firings.
(01:24:20):
All of this I could chalk up to regime changes,
And if you're a Magic Johnson sycophant, you could say, like, look,
this is the type of leadership that in a day
to day business he runs. On the other hand, if
you've ever worked for somebody who's never around and when
they show up, they only show up and tell you
what you're doing wrong, right, Like that's just not great leadership.
(01:24:47):
So I know stephen A is out there kissing up
to Magic because Magic is gonna come on TV with them,
and he already did as solid and help their ratings
and came out with him. And I don't think Magic
is in fact the devil, but I'm glad to believe
one because I know this to be true from people
I talked to and too because I have a brain
that it's far, far more likely than not that Magic.
Johnson probably didn't respect a lot of the people there
(01:25:09):
because it felt like they had always been there and
they were just only there because they had always been there,
and they didn't know basketball. It's level that he knew
basketball when he thought he knew a bunch of stuff
without doing actually the homework, and that made them resent him,
and he resented them. Rob Polinka has made to look
(01:25:33):
arrogant and less than honest. Matter of fact, cameras caught
this story he told in they started bringing in, you know,
different big names, leaders people of industry once a week
to speak to the team kind of share with him
their journey. And so when Dwayne Johnson the Rock was there.
(01:25:56):
This was the story that Rob Polinka shared. I remember
just a really quick store. There was one time when Kobe,
who I worked with for eighteen years, was going back
to playing Madison Square Garden and he had just seen
The Dark Knight. Obviously you guys saw that movie. And
he's like, hey, hooked me up with dinner with Heath
Ledger because he got so locked into that role. I
(01:26:16):
want to know how he mentally went there, and so
he had dinner with Heathy, talked about how he locks
in for a role, and Kobe used some of that
in his game against the Knicks in terms of mental preparation. Yeah,
it's amazing. You hear the rock going yeah yeah, um
yeah in the back Kyle Kuzma, I uh didn't he
(01:26:41):
Ledger dive from an overdose before that movie was released, right, yeah,
like six months before was released. I mean that would
have been really kind of a quick dinner. You know,
dont do a dead body like I just he didn't
(01:27:02):
have much to say. I mean, that's bad, that's not
that's not good. Oh did I say Heath Ledger? I
meant I meant like, now, dude, you said Heath Ledger.
And he also did the did you guys hear what
he did at the start. And there was Kobe who
I worked with for eighteen years. Okay, this is classic
(01:27:28):
classic agency. You did not work with Kobe Bryant. You
worked for Kobe Bryant. It may only be changing one
word for you. But like how my agents I consider.
I've had two agents, I had three actually, and I
(01:27:49):
like all of them. Agent I fired I had for
ten years and we're good friends where I thought we
were good friends. But he's still my agent. So there's
a he's a paid for It's hard to have a
friend who you're paying to look out for your career.
It just is like, that's a hard But the the
(01:28:13):
whole name drop of you know Kobe one time, who
I worked with three eighteen years. That I mentioned Kobe
eighteen years. You worked for him for eighteen years. He
didn't ask you to set up a dinner with Heath
Ledger because Heath Ledger was dead boy boy. And you
know the second that said, anybody in the room kind
(01:28:33):
of rolls their eyes that any of his stories. I
get it. It's the lack of when when people say
there's a lack of credibility with Rob Polinka, that's what
they mean. So you have the mistrust of Rob Polinka,
the dislike of Magic Johnson, who's one guy when the
red lights on and another guy when the red lights
not on. He's never there, and yet he wants to
(01:28:55):
make all the controlling decisions, even though it doesn't come
from a point of being educated. And then you have
Lebron James and his guys, his agent, Rich Paul and
the rest of his minions trying to trying to pull
off a coupd to Like all of these things were
going on with the Lakers. The crazy part about it
(01:29:15):
was it was actually going fine until or decently until
Lebron got hurt, which which may kind of propelled them
in free agency, which is the argument I would make
if I'm Lebron, Like, hey, all of this stuff could
be true, But we were fourth in the West and
playing great basketball, and all these guys, all the right
(01:29:35):
guys are back ready to add good pieces. And that
was when it was a mess. And now Magic's have
the mix, and now we're more we're more cohesive. I
read I read Baxter Holmes article. Nothing surprised me. I
thought both Polinka and Johnson end up being embarrassed, but
rightfully so. But if you think that holds free agents
(01:29:58):
back from signing when they can still play for the Lakers,
still play with Lebron, still likely have a chance at success,
but it also points to why they weren't successful this year.
I don't know how many times you have to say
this on the show, but if everybody's not pointing and
pulling the same direction, you're not likely to succeed. In
this particular case, everyone is literally pulling in an opposite direction.
(01:30:20):
It was like an octagon and everyone's hooked up to
one portion of the octagon pulling in eight different directions.
You're not going anywhere when that happens, all right, My
man Rashad Phillips joins the show. Coming next, we'll ask
him about Kauai Leonard will ask him about Steph Curry,
who he calls the best player in the NBA, and
(01:30:41):
what he thinks happens if and when k D comes back.

He's a friend of the program. He joins the Doug
Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Shot. How are you?
(01:31:47):
I'm fantastic, Doug. How are you doing? Good? Man? Um?
You always hashtag talk soon, so we're actually talking now.
All right, let's let's talk um. In February, you tweeted
out Kawuahi Leonard to Golden State this summer once KD
leaves Golden State won't miss a beat talk soon hashtag
Yoda you still feel like Kawai letard ends up in
(01:32:10):
Golden State? Um, I just think there's a there's a
strong possibility that that happens. I mean, you gotta look
at the situation at hand where I mean, Kauai has
put himself in a situation where he's in a win
win um Toronto obviously loved him, and rightfully so. And
he's a West Coast kid. And we've been all general generally,
(01:32:33):
everybody's talking Lakers and Clippers and and I'm thinking like, well,
those are not the best teams in the West. That's
gonna lose a high level player. How Come we haven't
talked about Golden State. So that's that's what I know
with that, And that's why I said, Hey, Golden State
may be a strong destination for Kauai. Yeah. But again,
if you're trying to make sense of it, why would
(01:32:54):
Kevin Durant leave Golden State when they got a chance
here to win their fourth him Chip in five years,
his third straight championship. Like, if we're gonna do logic,
logic tells you the market is big enough. He can
make more money there than elsewhere. Why not just stay
because he's not Um, I think he's not needed there.
(01:33:16):
And I don't take this the wrong way. UM. I
just think that Kevin Durant is so good that a
team like Golden State doesn't need what he brings to
the table, and they've they've proven that without him. I
really believe Kevin Durant is more of a crutch and
that's and that's given him a compliment. He's just more
(01:33:37):
of a crutch to Curry and Clay. I think when
he's on the court, Curry and Clay just kind of
just take a back seat because Durant is so good.
And I just think that he needs to go to
his own destination and really prove to us that he
can win on his own. Now, Kauai has already proven
that presently speaking with taking a Raptors team, a brand
(01:34:01):
new team, a brand new coach, and here they are
in the finals. Yeah. And now you often say that
you think Steph Curry's points are what more impactful? Thanks points?
But yeah, I think Curby's I think Curry's points cut deeper.
I just think Doug, you played, you played at a
high level. I just think where when you when you
(01:34:23):
when you hit shots the way this guy hits shot
at the particular times, it's just demoralizing to your scout,
your scout team, to to the defensive guys that are
trying to stop a six ft three guy that's knell
and forty bombs other than the seven footer that's hitting
too dribble pull ups. I mean, you have to look
at it statistically, when Kevin Durant drops forty points, it's
(01:34:46):
not as demoralizing as when a guy like Steph Curry
drops thirty five points because it's in the style of
fashion and how he does that well. It's also just
the math of it, right, when you shoot a higher
volume of threes and you score threes as opposed to two's. Uh,
it's a lot like kind of throwing haymakers instead of
throwing body blows. Durant at times can be body blows.
(01:35:08):
I would tell you, though, it is pretty devastating when
you're Houston or when you're when you're the Clippers and
you do everything right defensively and he still stamp can't
stop Kevin Durant. Yeah, I just I think Kevin Durant
is terrific. Like I said, I think he's fantastic. I
think he's the best offensive player that we've seen, and
I mean quite some time. I mean he's up there
with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant um. But his points
(01:35:32):
are are not as magnify as a guy like Steph Curry,
who kind of does it in a new evolution type
of way. I mean, you just can't. There's no defense
for a guy that can come down and dance on you,
wiggle on you, and drop uh forty ft bombs on
you without looking at it going in. That is demoralizing.
(01:35:54):
Um So I just I just think that's what it does.
Rashan Phillips Sports Team Unch just doug out the show
here on Fox Sports Radio. Uh, what do you think
the right fit is for Kyrie? Irv Um. I think
that Kyrie needs to go to a place. I really
think honestly, I think he should. I think it's kind
of that bridge just kind of burnt. But what he
(01:36:16):
should do was hold out one more year and let
the Miami Heat clear out their books and go to Miami. Um,
but I know he won't do that. I think the
pressure people are trying to push him to Brooklyn, to
New York and even l a Um. But logically speaking, Doug,
I think he would he should have. He should go
back to Boston for one more year. Let that play out,
(01:36:37):
and let the Miami Heat clear their books because they
got some big contracts. Let the Heat clear their books.
And I think he should go to Miami in another year.
But I don't know who's in his corner or what's
going on. But that's what if I was giving him advice,
that's what I would tell them. Yeah, the problem there
is it just seems to not be working in Boston
that they don't know. You know, it just he's got
(01:36:58):
a gut. He I don't think he respects the younger guys.
And I'm not sure and I think he's he's a
challenging guy. He's a super talented guy, like crazy, crazy
talented guy. But but you know, uh, it just didn't work.
Anyone could see it didn't work. You've been a proponent
of moving Ben Simmons off the basketball. How do you
(01:37:21):
fix the Philadelphia seventy If you were in charge, you draft,
You have to draft the point guard. You gotta find
even you just have to find a stabilizer for that team.
I just really lacks a stabilizer. They lack a guy
like like a like a point guard like yourself or
point guard like myself, just somebody that can stabilize that
(01:37:42):
team and allow the other guys to play off that
That's why, That's why t J McConnell was so good
with the Sixers, because he stabilized those guys and they
played better. I just think Ben Simmons needs to play
off the ball more and still allow him to play
make but not be the initiator. I just don't think
(01:38:03):
he's good at initiating standpoint, but still he's a great playmaker.
So again, I just think the general public we we
pigeonhole these guys. They try to follow the pigeonholes and
the end up casting these these uh the these organizations
of positions. Chan Phillips joining us. It's sports Talk to
three one nine dot com. It's sports Talk dot com.
(01:38:25):
Fall m on Twitter at RP three Natural. You love
picking apart draft prospects, Zion Williamson. How could probably be? Um?
I think he's gonna be I think he's gonna be good.
I do. I think it's gonna be good. UM, I
can't say superstar right now. I don't see superstar. What
I what I do see? I see superstar off the court.
(01:38:46):
I just think that the mark ability, the shoe sales,
the commercials um but I really see, I see a
good NBA player. I can't go superstar yet, because to
be a superstar you just have to be completely dominant
of the sport. And I don't know if he has
the skills set from a basketball standpoint to actually dominate
(01:39:06):
an NBA game. Obviously he dominated college, but that's because
of the physical attributes. But now to dominate the NBA
you have to have some high skill attributes to be
able to go to and I don't know if he
has that quite yet. John, would you take job over? Yeah?
(01:39:27):
I would. I would, and and and the and the
reason I would. You can call me bias here. Um.
I just think the point guard position is like a
quarterback position. I just think that you don't draft a
left tackle before you draft a superstar quarterback. That's how
just just how I look at it. So I think
Jah is a guy that has the ball in his hands.
He has the dynamics about him, and he's shown that
(01:39:49):
he can do more with less, and you want guys
like that. You want a quarterback that can throw receivers
open opposed to a quarterback who needs great receive was
around him to make him look like a quarterback. You
understand what I'm saying. That's kind of how I look
at it. R J. Barrett was thought to be number one. Uh.
Then of course the season happened and a lot of
(01:40:11):
guys have pointed out, boy, he could be a little
bit stiff, not a great shooter. Um, maybe he doesn't
go number three. Do you take him number three? Or
do you take Cam Reddish three? Oh? I gotta I
take Reddish, man. I mean that's a that's a no
brainer for me. Um. I would take Reddish just because
I think Reddish has the game that it's just it's
(01:40:32):
just more pro ready. He just he passes the eye test. Um.
I don't a lot of times Reddish is one of
those guys. I don't get caught up in his statistics.
I just watched the tape. I watch his movements, I
watch how fluent he is, and I look at the
situation that he was putting in dub I just think
if Cal Reddish would have went let's just say he
would have went to Maryland in the Big ten. I
(01:40:54):
think Caln Reddish would have been a twenty one point
score and we'll be talking about him being a number
one pick. So I just think it was a situation
at Duke. So if I'm New York, UM, I know
you took Kevin Knocks flash year, but Cam Reddishes, I
just think he has some Tracy McGrady type of attributes
that you just can't pass up. Sean Phillips joining us.
So let's get back to the NBA playoffs. We talked
(01:41:17):
about the matchups. You'd liken some of the things coau
I does to Michael Jordan, how well his approach to
the game, and and when I first said this, I didn't.
I don't. I wasn't saying that he's Michael Jordan's But
I just think that there's some characteristics that if you're
a true basketball person, you can't deny this um. The
way that he gets to his spots to dribble, pull
(01:41:38):
up right to dribble, pull up left, um, fade away
over the right shoulder, fade away over the left shoulder,
big hand dump palm, and the ball, great on ball defense,
stoic demeanor, great leadership competitor. All that sets mj to
me and the way that he's will this Toronto Raptor unit.
He just echoed that more and more. The more I'll
(01:41:59):
watch him play, I just keep saying MJ every time
he take a pull up jump shot. So who wins
Raptors in seven? Does Katie play? No? You don't think
he plays it all in the series? I don't. I
think he. I think he does the Bernard King or
the willis read in game five because I don't think
(01:42:21):
this game, I don't think he's playing. This championship doesn't
start to game five. So you've got two games in Toronto,
two games and Golden State, and then you got the
pivotal game in game five. So if the Rent makes
an appearance, is going to be game five. I think
he plays in three. I don't think he'd be traveling
with them if he didn't think he was close. Yeah,
I don't. I really don't. I can't call that one.
(01:42:43):
But I'm just I'm saying game five, if it's too
too going into game five, he has to play, doesn't
doesn't If if they don't win and he doesn't play,
doesn't that help the argument on what he's been able
to do for this team? Not necessarily. I don't. I
don't think so. I just think Toronto is a really
good team. I think we're ignoring that Toronto is a
(01:43:05):
good team. I'm not ignoring it. I mean, like, look,
they've been not for Lebron James. They play in a
couple of NBA finals previous to this, and then they
added a better player and and a winner and a leader,
you know, an on the court leader in Kawhi Leonard. Like,
I'm not denying that. I just you know, like, look,
if they lose and they've won, they've won the NBA
Finals all but one year and the only time they've
lost before is without him, and they lose without him,
(01:43:26):
then the argument would be, We'll wait a second, they
can't win without him, Well, that will be that will
be the narrative, Doug. But let's let's dig deeper. Let's
dig deeper. Let's go into the regular season. Toronto beat
them twice. You can't do the regular season thing. Why not?
Because it's a different game, it's a different sports and
different officiating, it's everything's different. Come on, man, you know,
you know, but you can't just you can't just sweep
(01:43:49):
under the rug that what then why do we play
regular season, why don't we just pick the best eight
to make bunch just to make a bunch of money. Okay,
all right, there we go. But if you like, I
like to dig deeper. They played they in overtime once
in a regular season Durant half forty four. They Steel
lost or whatever they Steel lost. Toronto is is capable
of beating the Golden State Warriors with or with because
(01:44:13):
they've already done it. Yeah, no, listen, I I would
I agree with you. We are not in disagreement at
all about Toronto. Um, but I will tell you that
I disagree with the Warriors are much better with him,
much better with him, and and uh and and and
I think, honestly, it's more of an indictment on Quinn
Cook than anything right. When steps out, Quinn Cook starts,
(01:44:35):
that's where they're not as good, right Whereas when Kads out,
they slide Looney into the starting lineup, and that creates
a mismatch for Steph. Like, I think it's more in
indictment of who their backups are than anything else. I know,
I get that, I totally get that. And this is
I don't want people to think because I really like
Kevin Durant, like I think he's I think he's fantastic.
Like I'm you also don't care about defense. You don't
(01:44:56):
care about defense at all. You've you've basically stated that,
stop stop listen to you. No, I really like Durant.
I just think that he I think Golden State was
great before him, and I think they will be great
after him. That has nothing to do with him. And
I think wherever Durant goes, he's going to make that
organization great as well. I just think that it's just
a it's just a weird, quirky situation where you got
(01:45:19):
great on the left and great on the right. I mean,
and sometimes you try to put both of those great together,
but you still don't get what you think you're gonna
get because they're both great. Yeah, It's it's a more
is more thing, and more is not always more, sometimes
less exactly. Check out Sports talk en he's uh Rashad Phillips.
He's a great player, he's a great analyst, and he's
(01:45:40):
a good friend. Thanks for joining us. I appreciate you, Doug.
Thank you. Let's get to Dan Buyer TV what he got.
Still have to wait a couple of days. For that game.
One of the NBA Finals comes up on Thursday. As
you and Richard were just talking about, Kevin Durant, Stead
is still up in the air, but we'll travel with
the team to Toronto. You guys also talked about free
agency FS one NBA analyst Rick Buker with those comments
(01:46:01):
about Kyrie Irving likely choosing between the Lakers or Nets
this offseason if he ops out of his contract. Top
high school basketball recruit r J. Hampton won't go to
college and instead we'll play for the New Zealand Breakers
of the MBL. Some news from college hoops Howser brothers
are transferring from Marquette. We knew that, now we found
out they're gonna split up. Joey's going to Michigan State,
Sam Houser will head to Virginia. Ohio State's Caleb Wesson
(01:46:24):
is going to return to Columbus for his junior season.
Philly's elfielder Duble Herrera has been put on administrative leave
by Major League Baseball following his arrest on suspicion of
domestic violence. The police reports as her rarest girlfriend had
injuries to her arm and neck after allegedly being assaulted
by the Outfielder in Atlantic City on Monday night. Former

(01:46:47):
not with the team during the row Tiers this week
because of personal reasons. Raiders signed Richie and Gagnito to
a contract, and Tiger Woods will play his only tournament
between the PGA and US Open this week at the Memorial.
He'll see your Thursday morning at eight twenty six Eastern
on with Justin Rose and Bryson De Shambo. Will be
back to the Doug Gotlin Show in ten seconds. But first,
a word from Farmers at Farmers Insurance. We know every
(01:47:07):
windshield collision has a unique sound. Beetle bird poop, drone
seen it, covered it? Dr Farmers? Were farmers under written
my Farmers Jock fire insurance exchange that affiliates products unavailable
in every state. Who's the bad boy of Fox Sports Radio?
What do you think we're gonna go with Clay Travis
(01:47:31):
mcgulland Clay Travis like like Clay clearly trying to do
the the Howard Stern thing um. He said that as
much we're going with with with Clay as the bad boy,
the bad boy, the shock jock is that. I don't
think he's a shock Stern has always been yes, Okay, yeah,
I think of shock jock is. Now we call them
(01:47:53):
like hot take artists. Um, he has some takes that
are hot. I mean, I like, look, all of our
shows are different and unique. All of our shows, Ben
Mallory's show is different, unique. Um I would say, you
know Jonas and r J that follow me, or the
odd couple that followed them, or Clay or Dan or
(01:48:15):
Jason Smith, Colin Cowhard Obviously they're all all different. I
bring it up because you can't now it's a little
different on sports radio and we're not. We're we're kind
of a team. Like that's that's the interesting part. I
had a funny conversation where, uh with somebody in the
(01:48:36):
company last week. They're asking me about things going on,
like how did you hear about Like we're all friends.
Like I talked to Clay once or twice a week.
I had dinner with Colin last week. We talked on
the phone a couple of times a week. I talked
to Dan. You know, everybody's kind of been monitoring Dan
Patrick as he after announced that he had some health issues.
Work with Jason Smith, like all of us kind of
(01:48:57):
worked together, so like there's you don't have to have
a you know, a rumor like no, you actually talk
to the person, Hey, guess what's coming up, and we
root and cheer for each other's success. It's pretty cool.
So it's kind of there's more camaraderie here than there
had been, uh any either the other two spots that
I that I worked at. But in sports you need
(01:49:21):
that camaraderie. But you also need a couple of guys
that that pushed the envelope. You need a couple of
I don't know if this translates well, Um, two thousand
four Oaklahands they went to the final four. I finished
in two thousand and we went to the lead eight
and not the final four. And Eddie Sutton was the
head coach. He coached me in in college, longtime famous
(01:49:44):
head coach, only head coach win Division One games and
not be in the Nate Smith Memorial Hall of Fame.
Put Eddie in. But we had Tony Allen and had
Joey and Stevie Graham all played in the NBA. As
did John Lucas, who played in the NBA was just
(01:50:04):
was most recently part of I think the Minnesota Timberwolves
coaching staff. And it's interesting. One day at practice, Eddie
Sutton was like, Joey Stevie, you need to put some
ghetto in your game, right And Joey Stevie Graham all three,
by the way, Tony Allen, who's the grind father, is
(01:50:27):
one of the nicest, classiest dudes, who's so evolved since
his day's first arriving at Oklahoma State. He gotta fight
at water Burger on his third day there and nearly
got set home. But um, you know it's it's it's interesting.
All three are good dudes, but they're just different and
there's a grittiness, a grinder, a toughness. And as much
(01:50:51):
as Tony Allen has evolved now, if not for Tony
Allen and a guy named Ivan McFarland, that team doesn't
doesn't win the Big Twelve, doesn't win the Big Twelve Tournament,
doesn't go to a Final four. You can't have all
choir boys. You can't have what was the line from
(01:51:11):
Mike Mayock, can't have all boy scouts. I mean even
look at the New England Patriots. Yeah they have Tom Brady,
but they got some junkyard dogs as well as well.
They got some aloof dudes, they got some bizarre dudes.
They've had Rob Gronkowski, They've had some defensive guys that
have a couple of couple of screws loose. You know,
(01:51:32):
they've been able. You don't the all boy scout things
sounds good and looks good and feels good until you realize, hey,
this is a gladiatorial sport and you need some badasses
out there. So when you hear Richie Incognito signs with
the Oakland Raiders, you're like, oh, the Raiders being the Raiders,
And yeah they signed Vanta's perfect. They got Antonio Brown,
(01:51:55):
but you can't have all I actually agree with this.
They the guys that are their long term plans. They
got all character, guys from college, high high character. And
that's great, but you also need to establish a culture
of toughness and tenacity. And sometimes the guys that have
that toughness and tenacity got some baggage, right, got some baggage.
(01:52:20):
It's kind of like, you know, you want to day
a girl with a tattoo, You just gotta want to
make sure where you know what the tattoo is. I mean,
Ramos's wife is about to give first she's she's all
inked up. I couldn't even see her where her eyes
were because she has those tattoos below her eye lids.
Others are kind of freaky roo like a cat, Yes,
a lot like a cat. But I actually get this.
(01:52:44):
Look at any the Golden State Warriors. Are they all
choir boys? I mean, Draymond got into an issue, had
an issue with a football player when he went back
to Michigan State, right he not acquired boy. The great
Bulls teams, remember three of them had Dennis Rodman as
they're tough guy. Of course, the back to back champion
(01:53:07):
Pistons teams, Bill Lamb Beard was there, was there tough guy.
You know, they had a goofy guy in John Sally.
They had a tough guy and Isaiah Thomas like that.
Dude is no choir boy either. So considering rich Incognito
has got a proven contract, he was out of the league,
he's gone through a whole bunch of stuff. I don't
(01:53:29):
think this is a terrible, terrible thing, terrible thing to
sign him in Oakland. I think it makes sense. You know,
if if it's a guy who's got a bad reputation
who you link in to a fifty million dollar contract
you can't get out of, that's one thing. But to
have four or five Junkyard dogs on your roster that
(01:53:51):
you can cut at any moment and not see any
repercussions not a bad thing. Is Kawhi Leonard gonna resign
in Toronto Final Neck. Be sure to catch live editions

Leap Show, You're on Fox Sports radio every day at
this time we get you update on the stories of
the day, the headlines of the night. We call it
the press, the press. Dan Byo what he got, douglan
got some news from Las Vegas. No, nothing about the Raiders.
(01:54:55):
Nothing about un l V, although they did just sign
a home at home with u c l A for
college hoops the next two seasons. But about the NBA Raptors. Now.
The odds on favorite to keep Kawhi Leonard this offseason
bet Online saying the Raptors have a two to three
shot to keep their star forward. Clippers are listed at
next with the with the next best odds at three
(01:55:18):
to two. Lakers are a four to one shot. If
it happened. If it happened, the trend would continue. The
trend would have started with Paul George continue with Kawhi Leonard.
Which would you know, everyone in their brother would try
and throw whatever they could to get Anthony Davis, who
has told people doesn't want to resign with most teams,
(01:55:38):
including the Boston Celtics. But why wouldn't you trade for
Anthony Davis? If it worked for Oklahoma City and it
worked for Toronto. The Knicks are the favorite for Kevin
Durant at six to five, with the Clippers next at
seventeen to ten. Then it would be the Warriors at
two to one. As surprised there, wait uh wait, give
me that. Give meet again next Durant for six to five,
(01:56:00):
Clippers seventeen to ten, and the Warriors two to one. Yeah, look,
I I still I think there's a chance for the Warriors.
I don't. I don't think the Clippers. Things happened. This
is we had this last year with with Lebron James
where everyone said he was going to Lakers, and then
late in the game they're like, well, he could consider
(01:56:21):
I don't know, Philadelphia, he could consider where else, and
then he end up going to the Lakers. I still
think Kadi wants to go to the Knicks. He likes
that idea to have his team in New York. But man,
so many have tried and failed in that journey. And
after today's report that you talked about from ESPN and
the dysfunction of the Lakers front office, Lakers are still
the favorite to land Anthony Davis for the first game
(01:56:43):
of next season one to one shot. There Pelicans and
Celtics listed at two to one is to where Davis
would play the first game of next season when Gwen
when when stunned me though, when stunny. If he ends
up playing in Boston, you know, I think there's gonna
be some massive change in Boston. I don't think they
like that culture at all. The NFL Players Association Union
(01:57:04):
or the NFL p A executive director Demorris Smith As
reportedly advised players to start saving their money for a
possible work stoppage. This, according to the sports business journal
The Good News, though Doug could be on the horizon,
as The New York Times says, the league is willing
to give the players a modest increase in their portion
of the league's revenues. Of course, revenues go up, so
it'll be more money for the owners as well. But
(01:57:25):
the report adds that the combative nature of the last
negotiations in not present in these current talks. Not President,
even though he already said yes, started saving up money. Look,
I know that we're all supposed to start saving up money,
whether it's US or NFL players. We just don't. That's
just not what Americans do, right, Like, let's just kind
(01:57:47):
of be honest about it. We don't save enough money. Um,
and so the idea of telling people what years at
two two, Yeah, it's after in two years, like, look,
half these guys are in the league are going to
be in the league. Then that's how short your career is.
And the guys that are in the league, they already
have enough money to save. It's the rank and file
(01:58:07):
guys that the lockouts killed. Well that's what I was
curious about. It. If they don't save, they really they
don't have a lot of leverage because then they're compromised
when making a decision because they're like, oh, we need money,
you know, like that's you know, they they're their own
worst enemies when it comes to that. Well, there's so
many other things, you know, it's everyone wants them, and
well why don't you? Why don't you get the the
(01:58:30):
the what's it called the off the field policy changed?
Why that doesn't affect how much you know, the guys have.
The OCTEO policy has nothing to do with them. They're
not gonna because if you do that, you have to
give up something in negotiation. After a rookie season where
he touched the ball three d and fifty two times,
giants running back say Kwon. Barkley says there's no limit
(01:58:51):
to the amount of time so that he can touch
the football next season. He is a no limit soldier. Browdy, rowdy,
bowdy bowty. Uh. I's gonna say it's gonna make the
Giants fans say. They've been saying it for the last
like three or four years. Mr P's got some business
(01:59:13):
next door. See him in the courtyard every once in
a while. Yeah, it's been a little while, but yeah,
somewhere in the somewhere in the building attached to this building.
Balloting for this year's Major League Baseball Star Game in
Cleveland has begun new format this year. Doug votes between
now and June one will determine a finalist for the
starting position in each league, and then, over a two
(01:59:36):
day period at the end of June, you can vote
between those three finalists as to who will start for
the American League and National League. Okay, wait later out
for me one more time. So it's kind of a
general vote here. This is like the the primary election,
and then you will have a final election over two
days June and June where you can vote for the
(01:59:59):
starter between the three finalists. Well, you know the key
is gonna be which one of these players visits Wisconsin
and Pennsylvania. Right, Yeah, we did there pretty good. I like, uh,
I think Cody Bellinger's gonna take some days off just
a campaign in Iowa. The yeah, Iowa Caucuses, m up.
(02:00:21):
Lock him up. Phillysol fielder Rodouble Herrero was actually locked
up for a little while, now put on administrative leaf
by Major League Baseball following his arrest on suspicion of
domestic violence stemming from an incident last night in Atlantic City.
Does not sound good. Not a good thing. Well, well,
at least Atlantic City has no cameras anywhere to capturing it. Oops. Right,
(02:00:43):
do you like Atlantic City? No, that's a tough spot.
It's like and honestly, summer is not bad. I mean, like,
look Jersey Shore. There's some beautiful spots Delaware, great spots.
Atlantic City not one of them. But I may have
been there, It's all right, a lot of seagulls. My wife.
My wife and I went there about six years ago
(02:01:04):
before we were married, and we stayed there and we
immediately regretted that we had to stay the night. Once
we got there, it was we here's our hotel, if
you're vacationing from Newark. It might be an upgrade. That's
about or Trenton. Uh, finally some new some college basketball.
The How's her brothers who announced they were transferring right
after Marcus Howard announced he was staying at Marquette. Now
(02:01:26):
we'll go separate ways. Sam Howser going to Virginia. He's
got one year left of eligibility. Joey Howser right now,
two years left. He'll have to sit out next season,
but he's playing at Michigan State. Uh, Joey's had three
years left. Any I think they're gonna try to get
a red shirt issue, but it's gonna have to sit
out next season and they're gonna have to figure that
out maybe with the n C double A. Um, those
(02:01:49):
are good guests, those are good players, and splitting them
up as interesting. What does it say about Marcus Howard
right that he's like I'm coming back, Oh you're coming back.
I'm out backing out there and pressed? That is the press?
Is there? Hockey tonight, No tomorrow night was already hockey
last night? Who won Bruins and had no idea? They
(02:02:10):
also won the five hundred Cool. That's good for the
city of Boston. Right, A French guy from Boston that
would be a weird accent, really really weird accent back
tomorrow on The Dug got Lip Show, Fox Sports Radio,
