you're listening to Fox Sports Radio? Oo? What up America?
Doug got Leave Show, Fox Sports Radio. The Day of
Doug continues, I'm just out of your hosting shows, trying
to make a buck. What's up, folks? How you doing? Yeah?
I haven't been on in at least fifteen minutes. I
(00:42):
hope you're having a great day. I know I am.
It's Doug Gotlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. It is proudly
brought to you by Farmers. At Farmers, we've seen almost everything,
so we know how to cover almost anything. When it's
game time, haven't experienced player help you stay ahead of
the game, put their experience and play at Farmers. Come
we are now. One game is a small sample size.
(01:07):
Small sample size, so when I tell you that yesterday
was a formation, it is conformation. When I tell you
that yesterday only proved my point that it's just silliness,
the idea that the Warriors aren't better with Kevin Durant
(01:29):
as opposed to without Kevin Durant. And I get it.
You had you had those stats at one point in time,
they're thirty two and one or whatever. Now thirty two
and two, and I with that when Kevin Durant doesn't play,
and Steph Curry does, I get it. You look at
final output, you look at final numbers, you look at stats,
(01:51):
and you think, okay. Gottlieb always tells us it is
about you play sports to win sports. They win at
a higher percentage clip when Katie doesn't play. But here's
the thing, this is really really important one. You cannot
(02:15):
fool players. It's always been something that I've believed. And
while sometimes players will be disingenuous with things and say
things about their coaches, their teammates, their families which are
not always accurate, when enough of them say the exact
same thing, start to nod your head and go okay.
(02:39):
And the Warriors have been telling us, dude, you just
get a trust us. We know how good this guy is,
we know how much better he makes us. That's why
he went and got on a plane and flew out
to the Hamptons and the fourth July. Right, the second
part is that the playoffs are all about matchups. The
reason that they were able to come from behind beat
(03:01):
the Portland Trailblazers in those last three games is quality matchups, right, matchups.
It's a good matchup. They beat the they beat the
pants out the Blazers with Kadi, they beat the pants out.
They came back and beat the Blazers without Katie. There
is a good matchup for Steph Curry and Clay Thompson
and Draymond Green. There's nobody that matches up to them.
(03:24):
Last night is a bad matchup. Right when you have uh,
Pascal Siakum, he's just too too long, too athletic, he's
too big. Remember Draymond Green, he might be six five.
He looked tiny in comparison to Siam. This is a
deep athletic team. And and what and what the ball
(03:49):
movement does, what ball screens do, what all this stuff
does is it creates better positive matchups for Steph Curry. Right.
That's and you have to and the reason that they
have to move it less and have to do less
and may not be as by some people's estimation as
enjoyable to watch when Katie plays is he almost always
(04:13):
has a positive matchup. There just aren't a lot of
dudes that are seven ft tall with long arms that
can handle the ball and playing the post, or can
guard a guy handling the ball and playing in the
post at his size. He is a matchup nightmare. He
is a matchup breaker. He is what the NBA folks
(04:33):
say is, hey, good defense is solved by better offense.
So then I read this from Ramona Scholburn. The Warriors
have been reminding anyone who would listen how much they
needed to rant over the past three weeks, but that
concerted charm, uh concerned charm offense wasn't lip service. Privately,
the Warriors had been concerned about their chances to be
(04:55):
Toronto or Milwaukee in the finals. If Durant wasn't a play,
they knew they needed him as a sale fail safe,
not just on offense but the defensive end to match
up with Janice and Kauai. Andre Goodala told Rick Buker
before Game one, when Kauai isn't out there, we assume
when k D isn't out there, we know we have
(05:16):
to work harder. So it's a different type of thing.
We've had success, and it's like, see what happens when
Katie is not there. No, I came out of that
Houston series, No Katie was there, stress on my body,
and now something flares up. That's because KD wasn't there.
But nobody's gonna say that. I'm playing forty minutes of
game versus Houston and then hobbling around on one leg.
In the next series, I miss k D. We win four. Oh,
(05:36):
but no one's thinking about that. But you can't fool players,
says aren't just saying it because they want k D
to stay there. They're saying it because it's the truth.
He makes life easier. He takes stress off of staff offensively,
off of Clay, off of all these guys defensively as well,
and he creates positive matchups where they didn't previously exist,
(06:01):
and those things are irreplaceable. Now does a small sample
size one game mean they can't beat Toronto? No? No,
doesn't mean they were as bad defensively as at times
they looked. Absolutely not. No, they're not. Pascal Siakam is
not gonna have over thirty. I don't think Marc resoul
(06:23):
is gonna hit that many jump shots. I do think
Kawhi Leonard being injured is an issue. I don't think
that Fred van Bleet is going to continue to be
able to contain um, to be able to contain Steph Curry.
You know, And and we're making a big deal about
how Steph Curry didn't make field goals like he had
(06:46):
thirty four. He got to the free throw line a ton.
They were doubling him on ball screens and making him
go with the ball and he still managed to have
uh managed to get to the free to the line.
Which have you guys seen the stat? This is the
most remarkable stat I've ever heard. We had Tom have
a straw on yester Day. Here's the stat. Steph Curry
swishes of his free throws. Is that crazy or what swishes?
(07:11):
So look, the series isn't over. It's only game one.
The Warriors didn't play great. Draymond was just okay. He
got into a little kerfuffle with Drake. Will play for
you what what he thinks of Drake later on the show.
But today is a win for logic, right, and another
(07:33):
loss for some sort of analytics, because look, I've had
people come on even our show yesterday, Tom Habitstroke, Come, well,
I just tell you the analytics tell you they're better
without Kevin Durant. You know what, that's great. The logic
tells me that when you have the best player in
the NBA, who is who is a willing passer, a
versatile defender, a versatile offensive player, he has competed and
(07:55):
played at his best in big games, logic tells me
they're better with Kevin Durant and it gives them more
favorable matchups. And that logic came out and played last night.
That doesn't mean that analytics is crap and that it
never has any effect or that doesn't, but you know
it has. There has to be a balance, and the
(08:15):
balance was on full display yesterday as we're watching the
Golden State Warriors struggle to make field goals, struggle to
get into their offense, struggle to looks sound not turn
the basketball over. This is a long, active, younger, hungry
Toronto Raptors team. And even though even though it's only
(08:37):
one game and it was a home game, and we're
told by anyone who will listen, anyone who will listen,
you know, an NBA series doesn't start until the road
team wins a game. That's true. Anyone who will listen
will tell us that that. Um. The truth is that
(08:57):
last night, though, was a home win for Toronto in
a need win, and they got a couple of calls
because Game one is one in which they were more
arrested the Warriors, and it's a game traditionally the road
team can steal. I thought the series began last night,
and we find out this weekend. We find out Sunday
how much counterpunching there is at the hands of the
(09:19):
Golden State Warriors. So I don't hate to say I
told you so, because I did tell you so. They're
better with Kevin Durant than they are without Kevin Durant.
And now we wait, can they win without him? Can
he come back at full strength? And if they do
(09:40):
come back, it does he And if he does come back,
can they do they have enough time enough games to
win the series? And if he's the reason they come
back and win, does that change? Does he reflect upon
how much he's needed in Oakland. Let's get you some
breaking news. Your sizes are glowing. A cross breaking news
from Fox Sports Good Afternoon, Doug on Tuesday, Clippers head
(10:04):
coach Doc Rivers appeared as a guest analyst on an
NBA Finals preview show where he was asked about Kawai
Leonard and said the following, like, Jordan's that what you've seen, Like,
there's a lot of great players. Lebron is phenomenal. K
is phenomenal, but when not that he is Jordan or
anything like that, but he's the most like him. The
(10:26):
breaking news is that the NBA has just find the
Clippers fifty thousand dollars for those remarks for violating the
league's anti tampering rule. The find in response to those
comments made about Kawhi Leonard by Doc Rivers and a
related story, I'm trying to find out if David Stern
has pulled off a coup in his back in power
(10:47):
running the NBA back to you. Yeah, it's Look, it's
a really really hard one. It's a it's a really
hard one. You know, it's a it's a difficult thing
for anybody to to figure out. Is um, how do
you have Doc Rivers on the show, they ask you
about a player, you just say something nice and now
(11:08):
you get fined. Did he go a little over the top?
YEA and by the way, comparing him to Michael Jordan
is in fact ridiculous. He's not the closest thing to
Michael Jordan's. Kobe Bryant is the closest thing because Kobe
Bryant actually talked like Jordan's, walked like Jordan's, played the
same position as Jordan's. His moves were the same as Jordan's.
(11:29):
Our our quest for the next Jordan's we we missed it.
I didn't say Kobe was as good as Mike, but
you want a guy that played like Mike. His name
was Kobe Bean Bryant. And BA insider Chris Haynes joins
the show coming next. He asked him information inside information
in the status to Kevin Durant. We'll talk about that,
plus what's gonna happen with the Houston Rockets by now next.

This week's guest is Adam Silver, Um Chris, Let's let's
start with Drake last night. Adam Silver said he didn't
say he directly spoke to Drake. He said the NBA
has spoken to Drake, and as much as there was
(12:59):
some verbal sparring a little bit after the game with
he and Draymond, he was he did stay in his
general seated area. They were like, look, dude, we love you.
Just dial it back. It felt like message was received
now yeah, well, yeah, I guess so. I mean Drake
was still animated actors. I didn't see much change. I mean,
(13:21):
obviously he wasn't given he wasn't given sud massages this time.
But I don't know, you know, Adam did tell me,
you know, in my plod he did say that he
he did directly speak with Drake and and explain that
where his bounties were, what what he what it is
that he couldn't have, he couldn't cross. Um. It's gonna
(13:44):
be tough, you know, because I think the thing is
with Drake is that sometimes he does go too far,
but other times I think he gets into the players
and as a distraction at times good or bad, because
you know, like he's cool with Raymond, like they're tight,
know that he's probably a lot of as stars in
the NBA, and so they're they're going to automatically start
(14:05):
drawing back and forth just based off of their relationship,
and sometimes it can look bad. Sometimes it just looks like,
you know, playful John. But uh, I don't know, you know,
I didn't see much of what strengthens right last night,
but you know, you know, I think that's that's something
that everybody I guess we'll keep their eyes on evenfore.
(14:25):
All right, you're the one with inside information this team.
When do you when do you think when don't we
see Kevin Durant back? Uh? You know, well, you know
I reported um this morning that you know, he's expecting
it to come back out of game through the game four,
(14:46):
Game four being the most logical, uh plan of attack. Um,
she started actually working out and you know nobody knew this,
you know, see my story, but he actually started doing
on court work earlier this week. I think Steve Kurr
announced on Winnesday that you know he's been clear you know,
well he had about two or three days of one
(15:08):
court work you know before that, and so he's trying
to ramp it up, and um, you know they want
to be very they still want to be very cautious.
Uh you know, obviously they know time is now on
this side. Um, So I think we're going to see
the middle, middle of the middle of this this final
series and if and if it's between you know, game
(15:30):
three and games for him as a reporter, I would
say probably most likely game four, but I do believe
that things can potentially saying, especially if they get down
oh two in this series. You know, I wouldn't be
surprised if he tried to rest back and get back
to game three. Could this be the perfect scenario for
k D to stay? And here's what I mean. Everyone
(15:53):
wants to be wanted, but even more so to be needed. Right,
to be needed is something incredible. And look if they
go down O two and he helps bring them back
and they win a championship, they clearly need him. Does
that do you think that changes his view of how
much he's needed and how he's how he's respected, because
(16:15):
that's really what a lot of this is about. Yeah,
that makes a lot of sense. I knew, I knew
where you're going before you explain. Um yeah, I mean
if you look at it, you know, say if they're
you know, say they fall down old too. Uh you know,
let's let's say if he comes back game four, then
fall down old please? Which is you know that that
would be crazy on my team's never come back tom
(16:36):
Oti in the finals and uh, you come back and
was able to display here to heroics and you know,
the finals and repeat it. It's it's set up for
him again. Um So I really do believe that with
the depth of Toronto with the the versatile defenders that
they have, I don't know if they can be I
(16:59):
don't know if we can beat to rot know without TV.
And so with that being said, I do really think
it's all set up for type of direct to come back,
display his talent and show everybody for real. You know why,
you know why this team really does need them. You know,
it's one thing to dominate what they did that they
(17:20):
got past um, the Rockets won one the last two
games and they swept Portland's album. But this is important.
This is this is a totally different team. And how
I think they need him, I tend to agree with you.
And the playoffs are all about matchups. It's a bad
matchup without him. Speaking of injuries, how healthy is Kauai? Jeez,
(17:41):
he's showing it a little bit. I mean you can
look at it. You know, at times you can catch them.
You know, you know, I'm I'm there at the game,
so you know when the cameras, when the camera's got on,
you know he's he's lipping a little bit. You know,
he's not walking as fluid um is normal. Um, you
know it's uncle uncle busness. Dennis rob Robinson, who you
(18:03):
know who who managers kauai Um. You know, he spoke
to me a couple of days ago and he acknowledged that,
you know, he is dealing with something. He didn't want
to devolve the exact issily, but it's clear. It's it's
pretty clear that it's still that quad injury from last
year what he was doing with the Spurs, and so, uh,
(18:25):
he's you know, he's he's out there, you know, trying
to trying to fight through the pain. And you can tell, man,
but it's still not really affecting him on the court.
But he until he's clearly going through something. Stud Gotlie
Sewan Fox Sports Trading. That's the voice of Chris haynes
of course you can check out his posted up with
Chris Hayneses podcast found on Twitter. Dude has incredible connections
(18:46):
inside the NBA. What is going on in Houston? Man,
You know what, it's a sign of desperation. You know,
this is the team that for the last two years
they've been making noise, uh you know with their words,
you know, in the general manager dear Mores and the
players talking about how they how bad they wanted the
(19:06):
Warriors and you know, how how bad. You know how
good they're great they match up with the Warriors, and
how they feel like they're the best team in the West.
And you know, when you fall short two years a
row like that, you know it's definitely time for some
sweeping changes. And the thing the buyer does is, you know,
it's gonna be hard to get off, you know some
of those players, especially, you know, if they're really looking
(19:27):
at moving Chris Paul, and you know that's that's gonna
be a tough deal, no matter how you sleep. And so,
you know, I think this is the This is just
they realize they have a short window. They have a
short window, and they're they're trying to do all their
care to uh, to completely bring in some new blood,
even if that means almost a complete overall And I
(19:48):
guess that's that's what they will to do. Do you
think that is Mike D'Antoni totally safe? Is he totally safe? Yeah?
I mean good. They got out of his whole staff,
and then all of a sudden they cut off all
of a sudden, they cut off his his contract to
you know, they walk away from contract extension and and
you know, now the owner comes out and says they
(20:10):
didn't have a good year. Like, man, it it's it's
turned in a hurry. Well you know look, yeah, I
mean that was definitely a sign that he wasn't say
it's many. You know, you walk the way to the
coaching staff, but anytime you allow a coach to go
into the next season, you know, under the you know,
the final year of his contract, yeah, you're in trouble.
(20:33):
I mean coach Stocks, Terry Stocks, he's done with that
important this time season, and he was very agitated, uh,
with the fact of going into you know, going to
a lame duck year. Coaches don't like that, you know,
so na he this this is definitely something Uh that
that's Brewers is definitely That's why that's why I'm calling
the desperation. You know, they're they're going to make sweeping
(20:53):
changes to try to convince James Harden that you know,
they're really trying to do all the cards actually to
make this a legitimate championship continuity team. So no, it's
it's serious overdy. I just don't know how much can
get done. Yeah, as much as you say, like, I
don't know how you trade Chris Paul's contract. Joe Johnson
got traded a couple of times over with a terrible
(21:14):
contractually two different bad contracts. You got traded. We've seen
Melo get moved. People will take on bad deals. And
you know, he's not Chris Paul of the past, but
he is still Chris Paul. I think it's gonna be
a fascinating to look at in the in the future. Um,
look being around the series, obviously there's a lot of
talk of other stuff in the NBA, and there are
(21:35):
some that believe that the Celtics are already moving on
from Kyrie. Where are you here? What are you hearing?
As far as Kyrie and his future? I think, uh,
you know, you know, you got the Boston Celtics, obviously
that's still an option. You got bookman Nets. You know
they're they're right there. Uh, you got the Knicks and
the Lakers. If if you're asking me the name, but
(21:58):
my final two, my top two would probably I would
probably lead more towards Brooklyn as of right now. Um,
but you know it's fluid, like he's a guy who
you know, Kyrie Hivin Durant a very similar in that
their final decisions and change depending on from from week
(22:19):
to week. Depending on how much time they have left
to make their decisions. So but as of right now,
you know, I think Brooklyn, Brooklyn hasn't was in in
the shop man, and uh, it's it's gonna be interested,
You're gonna be interest. But I definitely think Kyrie were
taking take meetings were probably about four or five teams
before the ultimate decides. Doug got leaves show here on
Fox Sports Radio. Magic went back on TV again this week,
(22:43):
denied he did anything that would cause anybody to go
to HR, denied that he didn't have a great work ethic.
I think here's the bigger question, Um, you talk to
these you have unbelievable insight of these NBA guys. How
much have they been affected by this the most recent
Magic stuff with the Lakers? How much have the Laker
(23:06):
has been affected in terms of their ability to recruit?
We got you, got you? Um, It's the thing, you know,
every everything that's been going on with the Lakers has
been a negative thing because they haven't handled things. You know,
Let's look at the coaching, the coaches search, how that,
how that played out, and then you know, and then
now the narrative, you know, there there's you know, what
(23:27):
what what is out about why plaka? You know, those
are kind of the things that we heard behind the scenes.
But but now you know, back to homes. You know,
look at excellent score for espn UM. It's kind of
gotten out and now the whole world knows. The basketball music,
the fan base knows, and so players look at that,
and that is gonna be tough. That's gonna be a
(23:48):
tough sale, you know for Lebron if he's really actively recruiting,
and for you know, even for Magic. You know, Magic
said he opened up being you know, to being in
there to help him with me. That's gonna be hard,
you know, that's that's what that can you imagine, you
know what Magic you know, Magic having said all of
that about Raphail link in the lakhood and they're actually
(24:09):
these guys sitting together and trying to come together and
put together a recruiting plan and recruiting agenda and going
out to executing. So it is a negative thing for
the Lakers. But the one thing about the Lakers that
there's two things. It's history, no, actually three things. It's history.
There's a prospect of playing with Lebron James and the
fact that you get to come to Los Angeles. You know.
So as bad as the Leakers are, the baddest things
(24:32):
you know, appeared to be. Um, they're still in one
of the best cities, uh in the world. And so
that's that's going to that's going to attract you know,
in itself. UM. I don't know if you saw this.
The Clippers just got fined for tampering because Dr Rivers
compared Kauai to to Michael Jordan's um m hmm. I
(24:52):
mean it's he went a little over to the top.
But you know we're to the point now, I guess
where everything is hampering. Anytime you say something nice about
a guy who's a pending free agent, what's what's your
sense being in Toronto of Kauai. Kauai is a really
hard guy to read. Uncle Dennis, everyone says, has been
(25:12):
really involved in close with everybody in Toronto. You got
any reading the Kauai thing, you know, I would say this,
and you know when the when the trade first went down,
you know, actually put the book the trade when you
know when it went down. Um, when I was at
my former employer, Um, Kauai did not want to go
(25:36):
to Toronto. You know that that was that was not
the plan. Uh that that came out of nowhere. So
with the way the seasons played out, you know, he
he likes the warm weather, he's not a cold weather person.
But with the way the season has transpired, you know
his play, it's going to be a tough decision for him,
it really is. And I want to say, that's about
(25:57):
the champering. You know that that that the tampon charged
dr It was like, I think that's a little bit
overboard because if you look at it what he said,
if he has said that during the season, like pre game, uh,
pre game playing against the Raptors, or even post game,
that's not a problem. So why is that a problem?
You know, when somebody asked you a question about Kauai,
(26:19):
I don't. I don't get that, you know, I frankly,
I frankly I agree. But it's like they you know,
I'm sure it's Hey, they find magic, Look we gotta
find YouTube and look, I know the guys make a
lot of money. That still hurts to write a check
for something where you're like, all I did was give
a guy a compliment. No, it is, but but if
that's the case, if you agree that, then why not
(26:40):
you know, then I guess you guys, should you know,
find every coach who speaks about a player that it
happens all the time, you know, right before a game,
a couple of days for a game. That's what we asked.
You asked me, hey, uh, Steve Kurry, what do you
think about Lebron James And you know he's coming in tomorrow,
and Steve Kurry saying, hey, I think he's one of
the best players in the world right there? Or do
(27:01):
the best? I mean, it's it's the same exact game,
is the fact that the Clippers aren't playing right now,
and so I don't I'll understand why that that find
was warranted. I tend to agree. But you know, this
is kind of the a This is what happens when
you said president and you find magic. Now you gotta
find Doc Rivers. Chris Haines check it out his posted
up podcast. This week's guest is Adam Silver. It's awesome.
(27:24):
Follow him on Twitter as well. Chris enjoy the finals.
We'll talk to you next week. Pleasures my pleasures, absolutely mind.
Such great information, man, what a great job he does.
Let's get to Isaac Willen cry and find out what
else going on the world sports, like what he got, Doug. Indeed,
as we speak, Clippers owner Steve Balmer is sifting through
his couch couch cushions because a short time ago, the
(27:45):
NBA find the Clippers fifty thousand dollars for tampering. The
crime doc rivers on Tuesday appearing as a guest analyst
on an NBA Finals preview show, and you know when
you're a guest analyst about the NBA Finals, they're probably
going to ask you about some of the players on
the teams playing in the NBA Finals. Well, they asked
(28:06):
him about Kawhi, Leonard Jordan's that we've seen, Like there's
a lot of great players. Lebron is phenomenal, phenomenal, but
when not that he is Jordan or anything like that,
but he's the most like him. Boom fifty dollars for
tampering or is against Steve Balmer might call it an
investment anyway else where. Steve Kerr getting back to the
(28:29):
actual finals earlier today, confirmed that Kevin Durant will not
play in Game two. Andre Iguodala's m r I that
he had on his left leg, however, came back clean.
So he is expected to play in Game two. Golfing
around two of the Memorial Tiger Woods. Today, even through nineties,
it too under par overall, seven shots behind the leader.

(29:33):
We know every windshield collision has a unique sound. Beetle bird, poop, drone,
seen it, covered it, dr Farmers. We are farmers under
written my Farmers Struck Fire Insurance Exchanges and affiliates product
unavailable in every stake. This is Draymond Green. Uh, he
was earlier today. It was interesting, you know, he and Drake.
(29:54):
He got into it and you you you could read
Drake slipped on on on what he said. Um, and
this is one of those to me, much ado about nothing.
But but here's here's Draymond as Drake talking on the sideline.
Like I think so many people make a big deal
out of it. It is what it is. He a fan,
he talked, and it gets more attention because he's Drake.
(30:19):
So many people are complained about it, like you knowing
that any other fan do that, Yeah, any other fans
is not Drake, so they probably shouldn't be able to
do that. That's just kind of how the cookie chromos. Uh.
You know, he's he's worked his ass off to be
who he is. And when you do that, you, I
think we all know when you do that, you get
more leashed than others. So I think there's so much
(30:41):
talking like the NBA needs us know they don't like
he worked to be who he is, you should get
more leashed. But I don't mind it it's it's fun
for me. Yeah, I don't. The trash talk part doesn't.
It honestly doesn't bother them. We've seen that from regular
fans talk a bunch of trash, and the differences because
of his relationship with these guys and because of his
(31:05):
status currently right Like, as much as Spike Lee was
has been a huge basketball fan, there's been a substantial
amount of time between some of Spike Lee's biggest films
and when he was, you know, yelling at Reggie Miller
even in a basketball game, like, he was never to
(31:25):
the peak of of pop culture the way that that
Drake is. So there's a difference there. And but I
also think there's a line and trash talk from your seat,
from that general area wherever they put him, that's cool.
It's the meandering up and down the sideline. It's the
massaging the coach. That's That's where the line is simply drawn.
And so I think the reaction from some people now
(31:51):
about Drake trash talking with Steph Curry or whatever conversation
they had, his mimicking of Clay Thompson, who you know
called the Mabbrey, which is very funny. That's his real
first name, or we're even you know, getting into it
with with Draymond as the game was over, like that's
that's okay, that's basketball. Like trash talk is part of basketball.
(32:14):
Basketball is there's not as much of it in baseball.
This is not how baseball. There's if football, there's some
of it, but you know, the fans aren't as involved
because they're off the field. Like basketball is a city
street game, and there's always going to be an element
of trash talk. Now that doesn't mean that if you're
a fan you can run on the court the way
they do in a summer league or and one mixtape.
(32:37):
That's what you're trying to avoid. And so if you're
Adam Silver, you put up smart boundaries and you just yeah, look,
we want you around. We just we gotta be easy
about it. Steve ball Moro owns the team. He goes crazy,
he's yelling at everything. We don't leave a seat. When,
oh when will we see Kevin Durant in the finals.
You just heard from Chris Haynes. I'll give my prediction next.

This is game time time on the Doug Got Leaves

you like you'd treat you. Isaac Lowen Cron treat us
the game time? Would you? I would? What do we
got today? Psychic? I as if we didn't already know it?
You know before we do and get to our first item.
(34:04):
I had this idea, so the NBA just find the
clippers fifty grand for Doc Rivers saying this, I think
he should appeal and claim that he was actually talking
about DeAndre Jordan's, not Michael Jordan's. He never said Michael,
he just kept calling him Jordan's. That's just an idea.
(34:25):
Maybe the NBA would feel differently. Speaking of the NBA,
as Chris Haynes mentioned in the previous segment, when you
had him on Warriors optimistic about Kevin Durant returning at
some point during the finals. Will we see Durant in
Game three of the Finals? Officially ruled out for Game two,
but will we see him as early as game three? Psychic?
(34:46):
We will, Yes, we will see him in Game three.
I think there'll be a little bit of panic if
they go home down two games to none, and I
think here we will see him in game three. Now
we only know it's one game. But since you're a psychic,
you tell us would winning an NBA championship be enough
to sell Kauai on staying with the Raptors. I don't believe.
(35:10):
So I just don't um because you know the truth
is he won NBA Championship in San Antonio and didn't
want to stay there. So once you already won one
and if you win another one, I think he would
only prove his value to himself and to to anyone else,
(35:30):
and maybe he'd be able to make up some of
the short shortfall in the one year. He wouldn't have
his Larry Bird rights, so I don't think so. And
he could say to Toronto, hey, I did my job.
I got you a championship, just kind of like with
Cleveland and Lebron James In the other question is would
ease your access to poutine and Tim Horton's be enough
(35:51):
to keep him in Toronto? Not necessarily. You know, I'm
a big poutine guy. I have never had poutine. Tell
me what it's like. Um, it's like yummy French fries
with all kinds of yummy stuff on it. Pretty awesome, Yeah,
especially north of the border. Jason Witten left the broadcast
booth and return to the Dallas Cowboys. They have always
(36:12):
been rumors about Peyton Manning joining the Monday Night Football Booth,
but for now they're keeping it with the two man
booth of Joe test It, Tore and Booker McFarland. So
Manning was asked about it in a conversation with the
Denver Post. He said, I talked to the Monday Night
football folks. I enjoyed talking to them. I had great conversation.
It wasn't the right time this year. Maybe it will
(36:33):
never be well Peyton continue to tease or will he
ever take a job in broadcasting as a game analyst.
I don't think he'll be a game analyst. I don't
think that's what he wants to do. I think he
wants to run and potentially own a football team, and
being a game analyst. He doesn't feel like he can
(36:53):
do that. I I do not see that happening. He
does a great job of that show detail, but that's
a totally different vehicle because you can put a lot
more thought into the xs and ohs than you can
as a live game analyst because everything's happening so fast.
Onto baseball. Bryce Harper has struck out seventy six times
this season in fifty six games. He's on pace for
(37:16):
over two hundred twenty strikeouts this year, the current record
two hundred twenty three by Mark Reynolds in two thousand nine.
I thought it was me during my sophomore year of college,
but that's another score story. Well, Bryce Harper set the
record for most strikeouts in a single season. Uh yes,
(37:37):
Bryce Harper will set the record for most strikeouts in
a single season. He's on pace to be have the
Windmill record, and I think he will do it. And
I don't know how many people in baseball will care.
They don't care about strikeouts. It's just the the our
whole view on it again, it's analytics playing a part
in every sport, especially in baseball, and counts where it
started in baseball is evolved where a strikeout, walk, home run,
(37:59):
that's fine. I agree with you completely, Unlike when I
was in little league. There's no shame in striking out
anymore because the nerd uh analytics minded executives don't undervalue
strikeouts anymore. They don't mind if you strike out as
long as you, you know, hit home runs and driving
runs and produce runs to compensate. Back to the NFL
(38:20):
for our last item. Cam Newton a strong start to
last season before getting shut down with three games two
play due to a shoulder injury. Had arthroscopic surgery in
the off season, and as reportedly, just begun throwing again.
Will Newton have a comeback type of year like Andrew
Luck did coming off of shoulder surgery in the eighteen campaign. No,
(38:43):
I do not believe you'll have a comeback sort of
year like Andrew Luck did. I I think Christian McCaffrey
is gonna have a big year, but I just he's
just not that good a thrower, and having shoulder surgery
only makes it worse. The the only thing that leads
me to believe it's not a a massive issue with
the shoulder was he did have the operation done by
(39:03):
the team surgeon. Feels like it was like a pinch nerve.
I think he'll be better, he won't be throwing groundballs
the way he did, but I never I just don't
ever believe that he's going to be a breakthrough thrower.
Is game time on the Dug Gottlieb Show. All right,
that's game time. We got a bunch of things up

(39:25):
Pachulia is gonna join us. He's gonna be live in Georgia. No,
not Geoga on my mind, Georgia, Georgia. As part of
our our Geography Discovery Gottlieb Challenge, going back to yesterday,
Um that to two days ago? Alright, two days ago.
Jas was gonna join us. Kevin Durand's gonna miss game too.
(39:46):
Um yeah, Andre Goodala is likely to play after the mr.
I you heard all that from Isaac, So we'll react
to some of that. We'll ask Ja about whether or
not he believes that last night was just the the
statement forget what you've seen before. They clearly need, clearly
need Kevin Durant. You know, there's some interesting comments from
(40:09):
Tillman for Tita. I want to get to in regards
to UM, the Houston Rockets and Mike D'Antoni and the
breaking off of contract negotiations. I mean, D'Antoni just says, hey,
look we could not come to terms on an extension.
I have a contract still. I'm looking forward to next
year and having a great season. Wait to hear what
(40:31):
Tillman for Tita. That's the new owner, The new owner
of the Houston Rockets had to say, fasting stuff. His
agent is Warren, the Gary Warren has been a player agent,
a coach agent for a long long time. So we'll
get to Jaja, and then I'll give you my thoughts
on the thoughts of Tillman for Tita and Mike D'Antoni.
(40:51):
Who D'Antoni sixt eight years old suddenly under pressure to win.

Do do do Do Do Do Do do um. Okay, so man,
(41:38):
we got a lot to get to. We got a
lot to get to. Uh. We're trying to get Zaza
Patulia from Georgia, so from the Republic of Georgia, not
from like Atlanta or he's out there playing at Augusta,
from the public with Georgia. So will effort that. In
the meantime, I wanted to play with for you some sound.
One of the stories we talked about yesterday is the
(42:00):
Rockets and Mike d'antonia broken off contract extension talks. Here's
their owner Tilman for Tita. I'm just gonna tell you
what I think from an owner's perspective. Okay, I don't
know what Lamee Duck means because he's under contract. I
think his agent did me a favor. Okay, because if
for some reason we had a horrible year and we
(42:20):
thought we needed to make a coaching change, we just
got through paying off one of the other coaches, I believe.
So if I hope we won a championship and Mike
comes and puts a gun to my head, Yeah, it's
a very matter of fact way of looking at something
that that frankly I've never I've kind of never understood,
which is this idea that well, you know, you gotta
(42:42):
have you gotta have a couple of extra years in
your contract. Like no, you don't, No, you really don't.
You know, maybe one specific guy wants to play one
specific style. Like yeah, it's not really how it works
in the NBA. You don't need to have no lay
duck contract here. It's just like a player player as
(43:02):
a year left in his deal, you play it out
and then at the end of it you end up,
you know, using your success as your leverage. You can
go somewhere else. I actually don't think it's crazy. I
don't think it's crazy. Why should I have to pay
you for two moneys? I'm I'm paying you. I can
always give you a new contract. And as much as
(43:23):
you could say, well, look when you're young and you
have a family and you need that's that's different. That
is not the state that Mike D'Antoni is in. Mike
D'Antoni is in the poop or get off the pot stage.
He's sixty eight years old. He's coached in Denver, He's
coached in UH Phoenix, he's coached in Italy. He's coached
(43:44):
now in your way, So it's in l A, in
New York, in Phoenix, and in Houston. He's and he
has not won a championship. But he's made most of
those teams, all of them watchable, most of them successful,
and been a whiskers whisker away from the finals with
two different teams, with Phoenix one year and with Houston
(44:04):
last year. But he hadn't gotten there. And so why
if I'm an owner, do I have to feel compelled
to give a guy, you know, three four more years
when I don't want to, When I don't want to
I want to see exactly what we got and exactly
how he, you know, works and improves with what we got.
(44:26):
I don't think any of that's crazy. I really don't.
So part of this is this is maybe a new
owner with a new way of doing things. Part of
this is this is just a new owner who wants
to see some success and wants to see how a
coach figures it out. You know, they talked Jeff Bezdelic
(44:47):
out of retirement and then they went and retired him again,
get rid of him. But I you know, I I
see it. I mean, I don't think any of us
are sitting there going like, I don't know what he's
doing now. He's frustrated, and so too so too must
Rockets fans, and I'm sure Daryl Morey's frustrated, and Mike
(45:08):
d'antony is frustrated to get that closed that many times
and to feel like you have the right and then
you get a little bit lucky and you have just
enough injuries, all of those things and you can't get
it done. I don't. I don't think frustration is something
that we should be surprised by in any way. I
really don't. I don't I frankly think i'd be You'd
(45:33):
be frustrated too, if that was you, you would be
frustrated to the point of being livid. And for Tito
was livid. He's made some changes, he's made some statements,
he's talked about a he's probably told Darryl Morey everybody
is available. Although you know, I wouldn't trade James Harden
and let's tweak that coaching staff. It doesn't feel like panic.
(45:59):
It feels like you're being very reasonable and firm. And
there's a difference between the two. There's a difference between
being focused and being neurotic. There's a difference between being
motivated and being uh and being super super nervous over
(46:19):
the outcome. And I think, you know, I think for
Tita has a pretty good feel on his level of
emotions and what he wants. And it does kind of
make sense, like, at what point in time, what point
in time are we going to you know, are we
(46:40):
gonna make Mike D'Antoni stop telling us he's pregnant and
show us the baby. That's really what it comes down to.
He's been good for a long time, good for a
long time, but he has not come through or his
teams have not come through. And some of it is
through no fault of his own, and some of it
he is through fault of his own. You know. The
(47:03):
the the m O on Mike D'Antoni was always he
didn't care about defense. And then he found Jeff Bezdelic
as his defensive coordinator, and they also tinkered with some
of the roster and they were better. And yet some
of it is you can't you gotta tip your captain
Steph Curry in the shots that he made. Some of
it was the adjustments that they didn't make defensively down
(47:26):
the stretch when Golden State changed with their approach. And
while you can't change the outcome of a Steph Curry
thirty footer in your eye fade away three, you can
definitely change the outcome or the um the process of
getting to that outcome if you didn't like the lack
of defensive adjustments when Golden State really ran the same
(47:48):
play for the last five minutes of the game over
and over and over and over again. All right, music,
what's the story? Was jajah, because I know uh all
right on the phone with him. Uh, there's a designer
sneaker brand called Crusty's teamed up with a fellow Georgian native,
two time NBA champion, Zaza Petulia, as its new brand ambassador.
(48:13):
The announcement comes as the Sneaker brand continues it's aggressive
penetration in the US marketing. Zaza Patulia joins us on
The Doug Gollip Show on Fox Sports Trading. Zaza, did
you watch the game last night? I had to be
late at night. Uh, you know what different, So it was, Uh,
there's a wavering five in the morning, but I still
(48:33):
with some highlights, honestly, And you know, it was kind
of a mix filings where a lot of three years
five unfortunate to be they're still poring. But same time,
you know, total if you're awaking, what's the game? But
so it was all okay. Last night was the first
(48:56):
night in which a lot of people in America finally
came round too. Hey, you know, the Warriors aren't better
without without KD. What what do you think is the difference?
Why have they up until last night been so successful
even when Katie doesn't play. You know those guys I
used to playing, uh, you know without obviously, aren't you
(49:20):
know they're the chemistryes I'll say, obviously, but I don't
agree that. You know, they have better without Katie. And
it's one of those things and you know, one person
set it and you know then everybody pick it up.
And obviously media, social media, media has a lot of
power into the reality and trying to say something. And
(49:42):
you know, fortunately France some for the jump on it,
and you know a lot of folks well, I mean,
I mean also it was looked was it was also
helped out by the fact that the last night only
the second game which they've lost when Katie didn't play
since Kadi's joined the Warriors. So I mean, like, look,
I'm with you, but it is a weird stat that
that's only the second game that they've lost. Absolutely. Um,
(50:07):
you know, I remember when Katie was injured. Um, I
don't know, it's a lot two year or two years ago. Yeah,
you know where the first he wanted the chanters him
and I was this was my first championship as well.
You know, he was out, he got injured in in
month and we had a pretty good month. Uh and
uh again, uh, you know you can't be able to
(50:29):
bout it. If he can't be you can't trust the computer.
You can trust it just in members. You know, I'm
somebody from that I've played and with with that team
and with those guys, and that was being a locker,
was in I was being ever practiced ever soon around
and uh, you know, I just m not share my
experience and my faults that there's no way that that
(50:50):
team has got it without Katie if the Katie wasn't
part of the team the past two years. Um, I'm
not sure that team was able to win two Champers.
Zaz oporturely joining us on the Doug Gotlip Show here
on Fox Sports Radio. Uh, Draymond looks I almost feel
like better than he looked in either two years with
(51:11):
you right where he last year he had a shoulder
thing and he was heavy. He's lost twenty five pounds
here over the last couple of months and he's flying
all around the court. What's it like to try and
play with Draymond? Who? Uh he does a lot of things,
but he demands a lot of everybody around him. Um,
I agree, I agree with Actually was the first thing
(51:33):
that during this year bit Uh, you know you leather
when he was younger, because months he got older, you know,
be harder for you. But we have we have discussed.
He had a great point, but you know, was just
you know, I was just looking for the longer picture,
bigger picture where we be so wait to talk to
(51:55):
frustading it then you know, and keep playing the fishest
level first danger, you know, for the help. But I'm
glad you know he came to the point where he
realizing it's a little weight, and um, you know he's
paying up and hearing the guy said, it's such a
motive that you know, all the seer players him have
(52:16):
has that kind of mother and it's very special and
obviously whatever he does so and whatever that team, it's
so special and it's tremendous. So again another huge piece
of puzzle that you know, helping the team to win
the championship. You mean you mentioned the puzzle and truly
is right that everybody kind of has their sort of job.
(52:39):
But I think one of the questions we as outsiders
always wonder is and and this is more of a
media thing, whose team is it? What is the leadership
structure actually? Like, like what's it like in the locker room?
You come down, you know at halftime and you guys
are trailing, like who's leading things, who's pointing things out,
Who's the one who's who's getting everybody together? You know,
(53:01):
I would say it's give card. You know, that's the
guys who motivates everybody and you know who who make
sure everybody is on the board. Obviously you have there's
the players like you know Stathay, Katy and Clay, drandma
or like big Meets and the rest of the guys
you know, especial last year for example, we had a
couple of centers and sometimes you know, I wouldn't get
(53:25):
playing time, or fiends develop and get playing time, or
child then death and you know, uh, and obviously we
actually like to play at the same time. You know. Also,
you know he's see such a great job and to
keep you know, keep the guys motivated and ready and
physically and mentally, so it is very important. So I
(53:47):
I would say, see, there's a guy who you know,
keeps keeps everybody together, and uh with his system, um,
with his approach to the to the practices for the
games and to line up to a system, to have
a system out there, it's pretty amazing. So um, I'll
(54:09):
probably uh say that he's ahead of the stake. Yeah,
that's it's a fascinating way to look at um Za
surely joining us on behalf of Crossed These Shoes Doug
Gotlieve show here on Fox Sports Radio. They've never trailed
one game none in the NBA finals and come back
and one um Now Igudala is he still gotta play,
(54:31):
but he's a little dinged up. DeMarcus did not look
good last night. He looked like a guy that hadn't
played in a month, which he really hasn't played in
a month. And you without out k d Um obviously,
and I understand time difference wise, it's hard to watch
the game, But what's your level of belief that they
can come back and win if k d doesn't play well? Yeah,
(54:53):
it's unfortunately to deal with the injury said dealing with time.
Understand this team is a final in a row. It's
not easy to do. It takes a lot of energy,
it takes a lot of hard work, it takes a
lot of health, a lot of miles, a lot of sacrifice,
and literally lasts four years. The guys that have been
(55:17):
there for a long periods of time, they played one
extra season. Think about it. Are you talking about season
word playoffs. You know just the hardest uh part of
this season probably right because it's so intense and you know,
so physical and um we get a mentally emphysically later
for it all in especially they've been winning most of
(55:38):
the most of the most of them, so so it's unfortunate,
but it's part of the game. Same time understanding. Um,
you know that's why I always say it's very difficult
to in the when the championship and I saw, I'm
just you know, injury is you know, awfully, it's not serious,
you know, Katie Cousins. Um. You with Damian Jones, I mean,
(56:01):
you know we had to remember that he was a
starting center for them, and you know he would be
a lot of energy, he's athletic ability, and he was
getting better and better every single day's feeling more comfortable.
And he's a young guy you know for a time
full time starting jabing. Um he said he spent pretty
well with that with that with the line up, so um,
(56:23):
you know, but hey, he's gonna give them credit despite us,
and because when the injuries said, they're still in the
finals one one zero down. Um, you know that I
tell it was that that team never feared, you know,
in any circumstances. You know, it doesn't matter down there
out there. You know that they know how to win. Um.
They had amazing talent and one great thing about the team,
(56:46):
they had the guys who uh who would get opportunity
and take advantage of the opportunity and come out to
play hard and he will fill the blank without any
physical tea you know. So, Uh, that's why of the
special fire finals in the world. That's a great point
you bring up about Damien Jones. Have been trying to
fix that center spot ever since, ever since you left. Uh. Hey,
(57:09):
thanks for joining us again. It's cross these shoes at
c R O S T Y pretty dope and we
really appreciate you spending some time with us, um as
as you join us live from from from your home
area of Georgia. Thanks so much. Thanks. All right, it's
Doug Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Fascinating NBA
(57:31):
champion Corn Butler joins the show. Next, does he think
the Warriors can win without Kevin Durant? On? Does he

network and starting up juice franchises. Karen, how are you?
I'm doing great, Broke, thanks for having me on. All right,
I need to I needed I need to get down
(59:57):
the meal plan. Um, let's start with last night. How
is Page? How is how is Pascal im able to
get off and listen? I think he did a remarkable
job of just taking advantage of the situation. Every time
that you played in the playoff series or any game
prior to the game, you have a scheme, and the
scheme was to allow him to beat you. And if
(01:00:18):
he's able to beat you, you took your hat off
to him and you you say, look, great job. And
that's exactly what happened. He capitalized on the opportunities, making shots.
He did a remarkable job and running the floor being
extremely efficient. He had opportunities, but he was efficient in
those opportunities. And that's why the Toronto rapp has gotta
quality win at home. Yeah, yeah, it's it was a
(01:00:39):
little bit and granted is only one game, but a
little bit of that. Andrea Goo dolla when he was
the m v P during their first championship, you know
where where the Calvs said hey, well let's make Andrea
Delabidos and Andrea Dolla did in fact beat him. Yeah,
that's pretty much exactly what happened. And whenever you're go
into a playoff series, you want to take away something,
but when you take away something, you give away something else.
(01:01:01):
Prior to the last series, the Toronto Raptors realized that
Janice was a problem, so you had to stop him
from going downhill. You put your best defender on him,
Kawhi Leonard, and you built the wall and you force
you know, guys like Malcolm Broaden and specifically Eric Blesso
to beat you, and he wasn't able to knock down
for him their shots. Therefore it cost them the series. Now,
this series that we're talking about now to Golden State
(01:01:23):
Warriors did a remarkable job of, you know, trying to
corral for Wirelander as much as possible, but that left
opportunities up for Van Fleet Marc Forsol that have perimeter
shots and opportunities, and they was a fishing in that
space and that's the reason why they got the quality win.
Karen Butler joining us on the Doug out Lip Show
on Fox Sports Radio, how much of that was one game?
(01:01:45):
How much of that is just matchups and the issues
they're gonna have without without Kevin Durant. Look, I think
it's more than just one game, and I'll tell you why.
Like I look at the course of the game, and
I look at the series between these two teams. You know,
even in the regular season, you know is obviously a
different season. But at the same time, the Rappers had
a ton of success. From a pay standpoint, you look
(01:02:07):
at the league changes in this game, it wasn't many. Uh,
the Warriors never got a cushion in this ball game
unless his face that Klay Thompson played solid basketball, Steph
Curry was himself and other guys. I just don't know
where that third scoring punch or fourth scoring punch is
gonna come from. Draymond is gonna have his hands for
(01:02:29):
and sometimes your best offense is your defense, and Seen
is gonna keep him occupied, so he's not gonna be
as efficient as he was in the last series. Versed
to Portland Trailblazers before the game, were you one of
those guys that thought they were better without Kevin Durant?
Come on, man, that's foods go right there. Like, I
think that when you add a guy like Kevin Durant,
(01:02:52):
a future Hall of Famer, a guy that you cannot
tell the story of basketball without mentioning he's the m
v P. You've got two m vps in their prime
and him to step three playing on the same basketball team.
They're unstoppable their pro stars. But when you take one
of those guys off, they're different and they're fun to watch,
but they're I don't think that they're just a clear
(01:03:15):
cut favor to win, because Kevin duran is a guy
that can offset two or three All Stars on the
opposing end of the floor, and I just don't think
they have that threat no more so now they almost
have to play perfect basketball otherwise. You have situations like
you had a Game one. I totally agree with you.
You think he when do you think he comes back?
(01:03:36):
In places and like and I don't think. I don't know,
you know more people, uh and too closer to it,
But I mean, calf strains are hard. You can feel
like you're fine and then all of a sudden you
feel it pull again. What what what's your best guess? Look,
I think Game three, but it's it's it's one of
those situations like is he healthy enough to play in
(01:03:56):
the NBA Finals. You know, you don't want him to
come out not be himself, and therefore he's hindering the
team because he's not himself and he's not able to
do some of the things that you need him to do.
But you know, Kevin Durant, as long as he's not
damaging himself from a physical physical standpoint, even further, is
(01:04:17):
better than you know, some guys at full speed a
ten percent. So I'll take that any day. But the
same thing. I look at the regular season, Kevin Durant
average forty shot fifty percent from the field, fifty three
from the three, and the Rappers still one. So he
has to come back extremely efficient, and that still may
(01:04:40):
not be enough in this series. If the Raptors are clearing,
why do you think is it because they haven't been
here before? Why do you think that the Raptors don't
get the respect that you're giving them. Look, I think
a lot of people just feel like one of the
things you just touched on because they haven't been here before,
or you haven't paid a ton of attention to the
(01:05:01):
Raptors all season long. Now, being on this side of
the field, you know, I'm a basketball head and I
love the game of basketball, and I love what they do.
I love the style that they played. People don't understand
that Postal is probably the most improved player in this league.
And the reason why ce Dave Miles is not there
is because the development of him, you know, over the
(01:05:22):
course of this season. They had to make a trade
because this guy just you know, exceeded all expectations in
the matter of a couple of months. So I think
that this team is a force to be reckoned with. Uh.
They did a remarkable job of acquiring gazaw. Van Fleet
is just playing lights out after the birth of his child,
and it's remarkable to watch. And I think they clicked
right at the right time. And if Kawhi Leonards stays healthy,
(01:05:45):
I've seen him hobbled a little bit. It looked like
he slowed up a little bit since the last series.
But if he stays healthy and he can be a
threat on the offensive end in the defensive end, they
have a realistic shot at winning the championship. I don't
think there's any doubt about it. What's the what's the
latest word on on on on A guy like Kyrie
like he's a he's a different cat now, um, you know,
(01:06:10):
we've had people say, sudden, Brooklyn's in the mix. What
are you hearing? I always heard that it was Brooklyn
Brooklyn and then all of a sudden, now the dark
Forces the Los Angeles Lakers, and for numerous reasons, and
I would love to see that happen. I think that.
I think the championship in Cleveland and him and Lebron
(01:06:30):
united and figuring it out was like one of the
best stories and basketball history, you know, bringing a championship
to Cleveland. So if they reunite in Los Angeles, and
if you're able to acquire a guy like Jimmy Butler
and free agency or Bradley Bill via trade or something
like that, and did you still have the talent that
(01:06:50):
you have when the roster already in Kyle Kuzma, Brandon
Ingram and possibly lines the ball, but somebody got to go.
If you're gonna acquire Bradley Bill via trade, I think
that's a great foundation. I think you can make a
lot of noise. If Lebron James stay healthy, you're gonna
be somewhere between three and five in the Western Conference.
And I'll take that. If I'm the Los Angeles late
(01:07:12):
how much does all of the noise of the exit
of Magic Johnson, the recent report, how much does that
affect guys? I mean, I don't think it affects guys.
I think you know, like pretty much, where there was smoked,
there was fired, And now you know the reason why
there was smoke and why it was a fire that
you know, was trying to be put out on the fly.
(01:07:33):
During the course of the season, you heard rumblings. Now
you just got the real story in his own words,
and now it's something that everybody moved past. I think
that it was important to make sure that you had
a coach in place for free agency, for all the things,
and make sure that you know Jenny buss Lebron James
and the coach all the line. And it seemed like
(01:07:55):
they are and they're trying to move forward, you know,
and attack the process and free agency and a respective
MENA m what what do you think of this? Uh?
The Houston thing. Houston loses and they offered really an
incentive laden deal to Mike D'Antoni and so now he's
(01:08:15):
he's got one year left. They fired a couple of
his assistants and and everyone except for James Harden is
available for trade. What do you think of Houston's reaction
to losing the Golden State again, Well, I think that
any any other situation where have you've seen Mark Jackson
in the past or um other coaches that done extremely
(01:08:35):
well when the expectation is to win the championship and
that's the ultimate goal. When you don't exceed or meet
that expectations, you're you're on the hot seat. You're in
a situation that you fell short of the destiny with
the talent that you had assembled. And I don't understand
why would it be different with D'Antoni or any other
some of the household names. You look at guys like
(01:08:57):
Brad Stevens, He's done a remarkable job at the University
above Alert. He was the coach's dream. But some of
the some of that expectations and hardship gott to fall
on him too. They felt a little short. Why wasn't
he able to get Gordon to Hayward acclimated. Why wasn't
he able to assist Kyrie Irvan? Why wasn't he able
to structure some of the talent in a reasonable way
on the fly? Brett Brown the same way with the
(01:09:18):
Philadelphia sevent me sixers. They fell short, but he said
the expectations wasn't to go to the championships and that
there was a year or two still away. But you
acquired all this talent. It seemed like everybody was all in.
So look, I think everybody needs to be held accountable
and when they fall short of expectations, just like players
when they get traded, they ought to be on the
hot seat also, and expectations need to be placed upon them.
(01:09:41):
Great stuff. Um, when am I getting something? When am

(01:10:05):
That's my man. Let's get to uh Isaac Lowencron like
what he got. Doug at new audio for you from
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver about the Clippers being fined fifty
thousand dollars by the NBA for tampering today for comments
the Doc Rivers made on Tuesday about Kawhi Leonard while
he was serving as a guest analyst on an NBA
Finals preview show. First the comments by Doc that led
(01:10:28):
to the fine most like Jordan's that what you've seen
like there's a lot of great players. Lebron is phenomenal, phenomenal,
but when not that he is Jordan or anything like that,
but he's the most like of now. Just minutes ago,
Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe caught up with NBA
Commissioner Adam Silver in Toronto and asked him about the
(01:10:51):
fifty thousand dollar fine for tampering. It was a great
job by Washburn, except for the fact that he used
portrait instead of landscape for the video, but that doesn't
matter on an audio format, so that further ado. Here's
Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe speaking with Commissioners Silver
about the fifty tampering five. It's a tough situation where
he's asked about Leonard and he's asked to comment on
(01:11:12):
the Finals. But what do you do when you're in
that situation? If he's in that situation, do you refuse
to comment. How do you not comment and and get tampering?
I would just say, dock spin ever so a long time,
and uh, you know, it's it's not a fun part
of my job ever finding anyone. And I understand the
(01:11:32):
competing interests of the media and hearing a coach's view
about a current NBA player, but it's it's something where
there's a bright line in this league and you're not
allowed to do it, and coaches or team executives in
those positions you need to say, I'm not permitted by
the league to respond to that question. And it's and
it's a it's a balance of interest. I understand that,
(01:11:54):
but but he unfortunately crossed the bright line again. That
audio courtesy of Gary wash Earn of the Boston Globe.
Earlier today, Steve Kirk confirmed that Kevin Durant will not
play in Game two on Sunday. Andre Iguadala's m r
I on his left leg came back clean. He is
expected to play golfing around two at the Memorial tiger Woods.
Just birdie the thirteenth hole, so he's a two under
(01:12:16):
four the day, four under for the tournament. Look out, now,
he's just five shots behind leader Troy Merritt back to
Doug Gottlieb in ten seconds. But first award from Farmers

Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, I just
who was it was? Chris Haynes, I think said like, okay,
so what about before games when you when people give
all this praise to a players on other teams? Like
(01:13:01):
does that end too? I I understand what he's saying, Like, well,
you just can't say it because of the league policy.
But you know before every game coaches like he's that,
you know, we're facing the greatest team and the greatest player, Like, right,
does that tampering? If you say Kevin, if you're getting
ready play against Kevin Rain, He's like, Hey, we're playing
against the best player in the league. Is that tampering music?
(01:13:25):
Doesn't that feel like a slippery slope? It does? Do
you think for the league though, they're looking at this
from a perspective of you know, they're well aware of
what people talk about on shows, what what's being reported.
Specifically the Paul George thing going back to the Lakers,
which I feel like sort of kick started this whole
tampering stuff where they started taking it more serious. They
(01:13:47):
knew that Paul George had requested a trade, and it
was well reported that ideally he wanted to go to
the Lakers. So when someone from the Lakers then talks
about it, they're kind of like, Okay, hold on, we
gotta we gotta not allow this. So maybe for the
Kawhi Leonard situation, Kawhi Leonard, we know is a free agent.
(01:14:08):
Now we don't really know exactly where he's going, but
it's been well reported that one of the cities on
his list is the is the l a and he'd
probably prefer the Clippers over the Lakers. So then when
you have a Clippers coach talking about it, it comes
off as a bad look. So maybe it's one of
(01:14:28):
the things that you can't talk about players when they're
coming up on free agency and it's been well reported
that you have connections to them. Yeah, I mean, I
didn't hear the I've heard that audio before. I didn't
watch the entire segment. It was actually hon during our show,
so I don't know if he gave praise to other
guys that weren't pending free agents who wanted to be
in Los Angeles, um and it was. It felt a
(01:14:50):
little over the top. Although I've heard other people say it,
I don't know. I just this is the This is
the slippery slope we get into once you start f
ning guys for saying nice things about other players. And
the crazy thing is all their infatuation with Paul George.
They didn't even get a meeting with him. It's not
they didn't get him. They didn't get a meeting with him.
(01:15:11):
And it's funny. Remember they were like, oh, small price
to pay if you end up getting him. Okay, well
what if you don't. Exactly Now, you didn't get him
and you still have to pay them with like five
dollars or something. Yeah, yeah, that's a lot of money. Yeah,
are we getting Are we going to give Drake a
pass for having two tattoos of Warrior players? We'll discuss next.

This time you like to play for you a portion
of a previous show on Fox Sport Tradio Fox Sports One.
(01:16:17):
Don't we call it what Fox say? Earlier today on Undisputed,
Chris brus Sard, who of course you can hear on
the Odd Couple at seven o'clock eastern, four o'clock Pacific
here on Fox Sports Radio, had this to say about
Drake in Game one. I want Drake to bring that
and what I hope we see from Drake after this scuffle,
(01:16:39):
you know, with Draymond. I hope he goes if I
if I'm Drake, I'm going at Draymond hard. Why you're
the best defender in the world. Really, see Okim is
killing you talk about? Is he can't shoot? Like really
go at Draymond hard because there's a lot to go out. Yeah, ryeah,
that's what he should do and aim too, But do it.
(01:17:01):
Do it either city or standing up in front of
your seat. But you can't be I'm gonna give him
a pass on the wrist band because the wrist band
covered those tattoos up, because otherwise that's corny. Hold on.
Otherwise you might as well have put on a handband,
some shorts and a knee But fool, fool uniform. Why
if you are raptor Global in bathroom would you have
(01:17:23):
full Curry and Katie? He never thought He clearly never
thought the Raptors were gonna get to the big a
fan are you under before? That's kind of the there's
a there's a little a theater into this, right, I mean,
there just is. There's a little uh you know, we
gotta understand that. As much as he may say he
hates the Warriors, you can't hate a team you have
(01:17:46):
the tattoos, have tattoos of their two best, two best players, right,
So you kind of gotta you kind of gotta go
into it with an open mind. That's really kind of
what it comes down to. You just you gotta go
into it with an open mind, and then you gotta
figure out a way to make it up to yourself
that this is going to be the way that it is.
(01:18:09):
I don't know. Um, I look at this and I
just think to myself, Drake being a storyline only shows
the kind of lack of personality you really have from
the Raptors. It shows the power of one guy kind
of being that representative. And you know, look, I don't
(01:18:29):
think he's as much as super fan of the Raptors
as he wants to make himself out to me. But
I also don't think there's some sort of hatred towards
him the way that we want to portray it with
the Golden State Warriors, because those guys went over to him, right, Like,
you wouldn't walk by a guy if you if you
were done with him. You don't walk by a guy
(01:18:50):
after a loss like that. You just don't. So yeah,
I think there's there's a lot more to it than
just or maybe a lot less to it than some
would perceive. And that's what the fox said. Christophers Age
is gonna join us in thirty minutes as well, so
(01:19:10):
we've got a bunch of things to get to with him.
I started, I. I think I kind of nailed it yesterday. Guys,
almost you picked the Warriors to win, that is correct.
I picked the Raptors by three. You picked the Raptors
by three. Music picked him by five. I picked him
by seven. That's correct. And I think Dan was on
(01:19:31):
the one who took the Warriors. Okay, Um, but here's
where I felt like I got it right, And you
guys can call BS if if BS is is what
should be called. UM. I felt like I got it
right because I said that I thought that, um, this
series would be about Kevin Durant, right about Kevin Durant,
(01:19:56):
whether or not he plays or doesn't play. If they
won without him would need him, and if they lost
without him, then they would need him. And it last
night it wasn't about Kawhi Leonard. It wasn't about Steph Curry,
who did have thirty four fourteen of which from the
free to line. It wasn't about Clay Thompson, I mean
Pascal Siakam. I feel like Game one's takeaway is it
(01:20:19):
was about it was about k d Ryan. How how
close did I come? Well, I guess you know, given
that I gave my five point prediction before you did,
then I think you were just piggybacking off of what
I said. But that's fair, that's fair. I mean, you're
the brains of the operation. We both know this, but no,
(01:20:40):
I mean, look, you're you're clearly pretty spot on. The
thing that I found interesting last night was how they
were able to win through. I mean, look, clearly, we
don't expect him to shoot from the field scoring thirty
points for the remainder of the series. But it was
also Kawai Leonard looks. I guess, you know, he's battle
whether it's a quad injury or natonanitis or whatever it
(01:21:02):
might be, but he looks completely gassed, rightfully, So, I mean,
he's been carrying that team throughout the entire playoffs, and
I guess if I'm a Warriors fan, I at least
take some comfort knowing, like, look, Kawhi Leonard doesn't look right,
because it's not like he was just missing shots. He
was front rimming a lot of stuff, which you know,
as you've pointed out before, that kind of tends to
(01:21:23):
show you you don't really have your legs underneath you. Yeah.
I guess what I run into is there's two different
ways to to look at it. Either one, you keep
making those other guys who haven't beat people beat people, right,
that's one way of doing it. Make people haven't met
you know, hey, Pascal Siakam, you want to hit some threes? Not?
I mean the thing that earth Steve Kerr is like, hey,
(01:21:45):
there's here's a guy who if you just don't give
dunks and lamps and make him make contested jump shots,
he's not going to beat you consistently. And so while
we can point out the two threes he made, the
fact is he got way too many good looks at
the basket in transition, and that's what he was on
them about cutting down on um. So as a warrior's faan,
(01:22:06):
you're like, look, if we keep making those guys beat us,
they won't beat us. On the other hand, that's exactly
what Toronto is doing to you. And the Warriors haven't
shown that they have a supporting cast if Clay and
Staph they had fifty five, but considering the volume of
touches and shots, it wasn't great. Um the other side too,
it is I agree with you, Ryan, I think Kauai
(01:22:27):
does not look right. But do you make him beat you?
Do you say, hey, he's hurt, playing hurt, let's make
him beat us. Not because we think normal normally he
can beat us, but in this particular instance he can't
beat us. Um. One thing is totally clear. We can
end debates even with a small sample size based on
(01:22:52):

Shelburne had this to say about the Warriors Privately, the
Warriors have been concerned about their chances to beat Toronto
or Milwaukee in the finals. If Kevin Durant wasn't able
to play. They knew they needed him as a fail
safe on offense and maybe even more on the defensive end.
Because of matchups with Kauai or potentially Janice. Then Rick
(01:24:38):
Buker was told by Andre Goodala before the game, when
k D isn't out there, we know we have to
work harder. It's different type of thing now we know
we've had success. It's like, see what happened when Katie's
not there? No, when I came out of the Houston
series and no k D, there's more stress in my
body and now something flares up. That's because KAD wasn't there.
But my body is gonna is gonna say that I'm
(01:24:59):
playing forty minutes of game versus Houston hobbling around on
one leg. The next series, I missed k D. We
went for for nothing four games and none, so no
one's thinking about that. And then of course today Andre
Dalla has Epic four shadowing and m R I he's
still set to play in game two. Kevin Duran is
gonna sit in game two. But it's it's really I
(01:25:24):
haven't seen this much changing of people's opinion since really
the NFL NFL the first five six weeks of the season.
This seems to be what we do first week this season.
That team stinks. This team is awesome second week of
the season. It flips completely right, It flips completely Now,
(01:25:47):
if you put together a couple of good ones in
a row, they almost overlook some bad ones. Case in point,
you know what happened Lamar Jackson. They won a couple
of games, and people lost the fact that he didn't
throw the ball accurately at all as they adjusted to
what he was doing. But we were you know, we
Draymond Green yesterday the interview with Rachel Nichols that was released.
(01:26:11):
You had to be an idiot to think we were
not better with k D. I said, this is just
it's it's a silly argument. But people mistaken what what
is the Oh, this is actually a good one. Have
you ever heard? What are the John Wooden sayings? Um
(01:26:31):
that you know? Do you know any of them? Um?
Ryan Music? Remind me again, No, I'm kidding. Um, Nope,
But Isaac has a few on his mind. You should
have my wife on because if it wasn't for these
John Wooden sings, I'd be miserable and single. But go ahead,
be quickly, be quick, but don't hurry. For example, don't hurry,
(01:26:52):
as one failure to prepare means to fail. Uh don't
mistake act ativity for achievement. I believe that that that's
the one. There there's a there's another. There's other ones
like don't let what you cannot do interfere with what
you can do. That's a great one, right. I think
(01:27:12):
the teaching profession contributes more to the future of our
society than any single profession. That's John Wooden, what about
sports radio host? Whatever you do in lives, surround yourself
with smart people who will argue with you. It's a
good one, as John Wooden, right, um. But the never
(01:27:33):
was it never uh, mistaken activity for achievement. I like that.
I like that because that's kind of what we have
with the Warriors. We mistaken activity for achievement. I'm not
(01:27:54):
saying they're not still good. They're good, and the record
would tell you they're great, but they're not. They're just
not a lot of those games were earlier on the
in the record without KD was early on his career,
a team that was more wired to play, uh, this
ball movement style, kind of frenetic ball movement style. And
remember step has missed some games in the playoffs, the
(01:28:16):
playoffs and in you know, major spots and so Some
of it is the talented teams are playing against. Some
of it is kind of rewiring a team to play
with and without Steff, with and without k D. But
don't mistake in activity for achievement just because there's a
bunch of movement in moving parts. That's part of that's
part of the beauty to it, but also part of
(01:28:37):
the deceptive nous to it. The Warriors have to play
a frenetic pace. They have to. Even Draymond Green said,
we had to play faster because you gotta cover your
weaknesses more. You gotta shoot more threes, you gotta move
the ball more because you're just not as good as
people think you are. Whereas when you have Kevin Durant,
(01:28:59):
sometimes you really are that good. And let's not overthink it, right,
don't overthink it. Throw it to the big guy and
let's let's let him meet. But I think a lot
of people are just mistaken activity for achievement. They see
the ball movement, they enjoy it. They see Steph Curry,
who doesn't love watching Steph Curry play? But it's not.
(01:29:22):
There are air balls, there are bad shots, there are
seventeen turnovers like these are all part of the Steph
Curry thing. He's a time high turnover guy. He's a
guy who will shoot an airball or two. Now he
has the remarkable ability to turn around and then you know,
score nine twelve points in four possessions. You're like, wait,
what just happened? It hits you just that quick. But
(01:29:50):
you know, Draymond nearly had a quadruple double. He had
six turnovers, tenn assists, ten rebounds, uh and and ten points.
But we were kind of mistaken his achievement, his his uh,
what was it? His activity for achievement. He played forty minutes,
(01:30:11):
so he's going to have They're going to be more rebounds,
there's gonna be more touches because he's essentially their point guard.
That's why he had ten assists. But what did he
actually achieve? He didn't make shots and they left him open.
He didn't make some layups and they left him open,
and he turned it over too much for a guy
who handles it that much. So I'm not sitting here
(01:30:33):
decrying that the Warriors stink without Kevin Durant. But sometimes
what happens is we get so fascinated with the deep three.
I mean, just look at it from this perspective, the
Raptors actually made one more three than the Warriors. The
advantage that they usually have, that they've had in the
past is that they can bury five, six, seven more
(01:30:56):
threes than you can. But you take kd out of
the line up, and that brings another guy into help
with the other two scores, and it gives you, you know,
even with McKinney when he comes in, who can make one?
You know, Quinn Cook, who can make one? Even those guys,
you're just not gonna get the volume of touches, the
(01:31:17):
volume of makes, and we mistaken activity for achievement. With
the Golden State Warriors. He just makes life easier on them.
You know, they can have a bad game and the
team can be still be successful. As it is now,
they cannot. Clay didn't play great last night, didn't shoot
(01:31:38):
the ball great last night. Whereas Kawhi Leonard, you know,
Kawhi Leonard struggled from the field. He kind of you know,
he a lot like uh, a lot like Steph you know,
beat him from the free throw line and did have
five assists, did pass off penetration. It was Siakam who
had thirty two points far and away a career playoff
(01:31:59):
high and at VanVleet, who played thirty three minutes is
Lowry was, you know, filling up some stat sheets and
was effective in some levels, but not as much as
Fred VanVleet was did a great job on Steph Curry.
Keep in mind, and I've said this since the day
that k D arrived. Did k D need the space
(01:32:19):
that the Golden State Warriors could create for him because
of their uh because of their ridiculous shooting. Absolutely, But
the Warriors needed Kevin Durant because they were living by
it and dying by it. And it just extends, expends
too much energy. Why do you think they had no
juice in their step less? It's just too much. And
(01:32:40):
he allows every once in a while you throw it
to Kevin Durant. Let's all take a breath and let's
just watch him play. We're here. If you need us,
we'll throw it back to you, or maybe we'll shoot
a three. But that allows us to kind of catch
our breath and reset ourselves at both ends of the floor.
There's a ton of value in Kevin Durant, and it's
taken until one. It was a nine point long. It
(01:33:01):
wasn't like they got embarrassed. Wasn't like one of those
you know, uh massacres we've seen sometimes in the NBA finals, right,
I think it was the Memorial Day massacre, Mother's Day massacre?
What was the Celtics and the and the Lakers? Like, Now,
it wasn't one of those, but it was just one
of those obvious things like they would get close and
something's missing here. Why can't they get over the hump? Oh? Yeah,
(01:33:24):
Toronto is a little bit better. They were a little
bit more fortunate. They got a couple of calls. And
the Golden State Warriors don't have their best weapon. You
ask any NBA coach and they'll tell you look, and
college coaches say the same thing about the n c
A tournaments. It's all about matchups when it matters. And
(01:33:46):
the reason maybe Portland's was those were those were plus matchups.
You know, Lillard's good, not as good as as Steph Curry.
Clay Thompson is slightly better at both ends of the
floor than DJ and Draymond Green was demonstratedly better than
anybody his position, and I would point out that Andre
(01:34:07):
Goodala was as well. Those matchups were in their favor.
Now you go to an athletic team with several players
with a ton of playoff experience too, with NBA Championship experience,
and then you look at the you know, Draymond was
small in comparison to Pascal, physically small, So all of
(01:34:31):
that factored into a matchup which is very, very different
and hard to overcome. And they got to four a
couple of times and cut it a couple of times.
But but it did feel like Toronto was gonna win
that game for a good postion and it it was
one of those where maybe the the Warriors can come
steal it now, and it was a not It wasn't
(01:34:53):
a crazy entertaining game. Doesn't mean the series is over,
doesn't mean that that the Warriors can't win it without
Kevin Ramp but they have a much much stronger chance
with him, which is kind of what we've been telling
you all along. They're good without him, they're great with him.
Everyone seems to forget not just the finals MVP, but
the sixteen and one playoff run going back two years
(01:35:14):
ago that showed how good they can be when they
both play their style and they mix in Kevin Durant
and some of his isso stuff all right. Coming up next,
Chris Bruce Shard will join the show. I'll get his
take on what happens with this series of KD doesn't
come back, What happens if and when he does come back?

is it as easy as now, Doug? Like you, I
just get to run my mouth. That's exactly right. It's great.
I know, all right, you've had opinions on stuff for
(01:36:44):
a long time. Now you get to share them. Uh,
is it as now? Before last night? Were you, uh
you know they might be better without Kevin Durant? Guy? No, No, no,
I I did think it was a legitimate question. I
thought everybody you know, killing it, like, oh, that's ridiculous. No,
I thought it was up for debate. I felt they
(01:37:05):
were better with Durant. Obviously they're different, but I felt
with the record we've seen in the regular season, obviously
they were playing well in the postseason, they have won
a title, and you know it's heaventy three games without him.
So I didn't feel like it was ridiculous too, wonder
like a lot of people were. And uh, I just
(01:37:26):
felt it was an open, open question, like, for instance,
if you added James Harden to God the state. Certainly,
talent wise, they be much better, but would they actually
be a better team. I think we both probably say no,
just because of fitting all those pieces together. So I
thought it was a legitimate question. And that's one of
(01:37:46):
the things that I'm really excited about watching in this series.
It looks like Durant may end up coming back, But
I really was intrigued to see can they win it
or or not without him? Like I really wasn't pulling
either way because it doesn't matter, it doesn't affect how
great Durant is individually, But I did want to see
can this team actually win a title without him? Or
(01:38:08):
are they not good enough without him? Knowing it? It
does feel like this could be. It actually could set
up really well for Kevin Durant, right, Like, if everything
we've been told is true, which is end of the day,
that guy just wants to be respected um as the
best player in the game. And now of a sudden,
(01:38:29):
if if they fall down two games done and he
comes riding in his white horse and they win the series,
won't he get the respect that he's felt like he deserves. Oh,
I'm totally with you. I mean that that would be
magical for Kevin Durant, whether it's two oh to one.
You know, if they look like they're hanging on for
dear life and he comes back and is Kevin Durant
(01:38:50):
plays his normal game and leads them to the championship,
probably would be a final m v P. Again, that
whole narrative about they didn't need him and all that dies,
you know, because even you know, if they couldn't beat
Kauai and the Raptors without him a lot, you know,
the assumption is gonna beat what they wouldn't have beat Lebron.
(01:39:11):
It's certainly not Lebron and Kyrie without him, especially those
two had beaten him before. So I think that entire
narrative dies. And what I would say to Durant in
that situation, it's stay, Like if his main reason for
considering leaving, as you said, is just respect validation, then stay.
(01:39:32):
If you if that scenario played out, stay, go for
your fourth straight ring, which none no one's done of it.
And Bill Russell and I know, uh Steph would have
four as well, and he would you know, have one
more than Durant overall, but it would clearly be Durant
the best player, and they can't win it without him?
(01:39:52):
Uh so you know, start the new arena in San Francisco,
Like there'd be every reason to stay, especially does because
because they and this as well, he could stay, win
one more or lose it. Whatever happened would happen next year,
and then he could still leave as a free agent.
In you would get to see where does Kyrie go?
How did the Clippers look? You know, does Anthony Davis
(01:40:15):
wound up in New York? Maybe I go there, Like
you could actually step back and watch free agency play
out and then maybe even have a better barometer of
where you may want to go if, if, indeed you
ever want to leave Golden State. It's an interesting point. Um,
it feels like Hawaii is not right? Am I wrong? Yeah?
(01:40:35):
I mean, look, I want to give the I do
think one of the things that Golden State did well
last night. Obviously they struggled a lot of areas, but
I thought they're playing against Kauai. You know, if Dolly
first give him credit individually, then they obviously doubled. Kauai
got the ball out of his hands, and he clearly
didn't have his typical game. Yeah, I mean he sold.
(01:40:57):
I don't know if it was all their decent he
just had a bad night or was it the injury? Um,
you know that tendonitis which is what everybody's saying he has,
that can just come and go, you know, and at
times it can really bother you. You come down the
wrong way, you kind of forgot it was there, and
now it's it bothers you again. So that's probably what's
(01:41:20):
going on. It's flaring up here and there and bothering
him at time. And obviously that is huge because I
would expect Pascal Siakum to play even close to the
way he did last night every game and so they're
gonna need Kauai to be much better to win this series.
So that's a huge thing to watch. What's going on?
(01:41:41):
What is um, what's going on with with Houston? Yeah,
look this owner and I think I heard you saying
it on the herd, and you're right on the money,
because I've talked to some people and hurt the owner.
Uh for Tyler, he he is not Uh, he's not
there to just have a nice little run, you know.
(01:42:04):
He is there to win. I've heard that. Darryl Morey
while you know, since he's been in Houston, he's been
giving cart blanche to do whatever he wants. And he's
done a solid job obviously, but this guy's like, look
when like I'm hearing that, Maury is I don't want
to say on the hot seat, but the pressure is
on this owner. You know, he just paid. Look, we
(01:42:27):
all knew, Doug, it's ridiculous to pay Chris Paul four years,
hundred and sixty million at his age, with his injuries
and so on and so forth. And they went ahead
and did it because obviously that was part of the
deal when he decided to get trade and you know
he wants to go there, but it was a bad,
bad move, and it's it's for time for Tita's money,
(01:42:48):
so he he wants championships, and they're all feeling the heat.
I don't like the fact that they allowed it to leak,
whether it was them or other teams that you know,
everybody on the roster is available. I don't think that's
gonna sit well with Chris Paul. And people might say,
so what, but the fact that you're probably not gonna
be able to train Chris Paul and that being unlikely,
(01:43:11):
I think you gotta keep that stuff a lot quieter
because it could be disruptive in your locker room. But um,
you know I don't want I like the fact of
bringing D'Antoni back for at least one more year. Give
him a chance to see if he can tweak that
office change and get more player ball movement, less hard
and centric, and if he can't, you're go in a
(01:43:33):
different direction after that. But I don't think he should
be fired, like some people have been saying, yeah, but
then you look at Toronto and they fired their coach,
and like, so, you know, granted D'Antoni has been you know,
been here longer and and one elsewhere. On the other hand,
what assistant would even take over? Right? Well? And and
(01:43:56):
that's the thing, like, who are you looking at? They've
had other coaches m hell that have had you know,
moderate success there. And here's the thing with Chris Paul
and Hardened. I'm sure you were thinking the same thing
as me when you're watching Chris Paul play in Houston.
I'm sitting there watching especially this year and saying, he
(01:44:16):
is voluntarily turned himself into a role player for James
Harden and the hope of winning the championship. And I
give him credit for that because he's been a ball,
dominant guard. He's been the number one guy and you know,
always directing traffic and in control. And so I give
(01:44:37):
him credit for giving that up to try to win
a ring. But when you don't win a ring, when
you do get beat earlier than you think you should
in the playoffs, now understandably, Chris Paul is like, hey, uh,
I'm not I gave it up. I I sacrifice. But
if we're not gonna win, then let's play a different way.
(01:44:58):
Let's get me more involved, let's get other guys more involved.
And the question does is Ken Harden played differently at
this point? There's no doubt he could have at one time,
you know, when he came off the bench and okay,
see he was a playmaker, you know, obviously accepted his
role when he first went to Houston, he played differently.
(01:45:19):
But after a few years of just carte blanche to
do whatever the heck you want. Everything is based on you.
You're getting incredible accolades, one m VP maybe another one.
You know, you're being mentioned in the same breath as
Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain and challenging their records and stuff.
Can he go back to being a part of a
(01:45:40):
system rather than the entire system and average maybe twenty
six points, twenty seven points, twenty five points versus the
thirty five or thirty six he's been averaging lately, So
that that's a big question in my mind as well, Um,
what what's the latest on the reaction to the latest
(01:46:01):
Lakers story? Like Magic keeps trying to put out the fire,
and yet uh, it's it's like trying to put out
a grease fire. Um with with water. It doesn't seem
to be working. It may actually be making it worse. Now,
are you referring to Josh Hart was on the podcast
with Dandy Green and he said, the only two players
that weren't on the trade market where Lebron and KCP.
(01:46:25):
Are you referring to the big story that indicted everyone, Magic, Polinka, Rich, Paul,
Genie Buss, Like what I mean, there's so many things
wrong with the Lakers, Like which which specifically what part
do you refer to? Well, most specifically Magic going on
ESPN right, like he goes on and yeah, the Baxter
(01:46:48):
home story that was this week, and then he comes
out and he says, you know, basically none of it's
true from him on all the rest of it might
be true. None of the stuff that's negative towards him
is true. And know in the process continues to throw
everybody under the bus. Does is this going to affect
who they get? If they get somebody in the off season, Well,
(01:47:08):
I think they flick Anthony Davis obviously is their dream.
I don't think any of this affects him, um, because
he still wants to go there, so if they can
get him. And Alvin Gentry does like the Lakers young players,
specifically Linzo and Brandon Ingram and he but he also
(01:47:29):
likes Kusman and all their young guys, and he does
have some sway. I know David Griffin really respects Gentry
and his basketball knowledge. So there's that. And if they
really like a somebody at number four, Cam Reddish, you know, Daris,
you know, Garland the point guard out of Vanderbilt, or
somebody else, then they could look at that as a
(01:47:51):
nice package. And with the Knicks, there was a report
to David they're talking to Atlanta about moving down from
number three to you know get I think it was
eight and tens uh. That would indicate that the Knicks
are not they know, like they've had discussions with New
Orleans and they're not gonna be able to get uh
Anthony Davis for their number three pick and whatever other
(01:48:13):
pieces were in the package. So if that's the case,
maybe they can get Anthony Davis and all of a
sudden everything becomes great for the Lakers, at least on
the court. Um So, but look the front office. You
got a few guys that are willing to go there,
and then you got guys that would would be open
(01:48:35):
to it or at least hearing about the Lakers and
listening to them. Those are the guys that I think
this is going to impact because I don't see any
way outside of Lebron that the Lakers can can sell
themselves better than the Clippers or Brooklyn, you know, from
just a strictly front office organizational standpoint, and that's where
(01:49:00):
this stuff will hurt them. But you know, if they
can get their dream guying Cindy Davis, then all of
a sudden this stuff in his bad. All right, let's
get back to the NBA Finals. Best guess when does
Kevin Durant play. You know, part of me thinks that
this could they could really be overly cautious or maybe
(01:49:23):
getting back a little earlier, depending on how this series goes.
If they're up to one, I don't think he's coming
back for game three. I think it's gonna be Game
four at the earliest. But if they're up to one,
do they, you know, risk it? And does he want
to risk it? Because you know this character, and I mean,
there's nothing to play with. So I think that if
(01:49:46):
they're up to one, they may prolong it, you know,
as long as they can up three one prolong and again. Um,
But if they're down to one, then I think you
could see him in game four. Uh. So I know
they'll deny that it has to do with where they're
at in the series. But don't you find it interesting
that this story comes out the night after, right after
(01:50:10):
the loss, like there was when you read that story,
there was nothing in there. By Chris Hayes of Yahoo,
there was nothing in there that was like late breaking, like, oh,
something happened during the game, something happened right before the game.
In fact, he said he had been doing on court
stuff earlier in the week, so there really was nothing
(01:50:31):
new to say. He'll definitely be back, you know, in
this series. So it was it was odd the timing
of it. And that's one thing that makes me wonder
if it could be related to how well they do
or don't do in these first few games. Chris Bruce
are so okay, you think, like remember, like we all
think a guy comes back and he's immediately the guy
(01:50:54):
who was before he gets hurt, and that we don't
know best guess. And that's the thing too, Like I
if I'm Durant or even I mean, I guess maybe
gold State, you obviously could use a six Kevin Durant.
Um he's better than a lot of other players around
the league. But if I'm Durant, I don't know that
I'd be willing to Should you risk that, you know,
(01:51:17):
with this type of injury, obviously you could be going
into free agency. Um, I don't. I that's a tough question.
And I know he wants to play, but you gotta
be careful with that type of injury, especially when you
could be going into free agency. So I think that's
something he's really got to look at. And I don't,
(01:51:37):
like I saw Steve Kirch there today if he If
Durant comes back, it's not gonna be a limited role.
It's not gonna be a Boogie Cousins or even anything
close to that. And I agree with that, Like I
can't imagine Kevin Durant coming back as a role player,
a space filler. It's certainly not off the bench. So
(01:51:58):
if he comes back, he's gonna start, He's gonna be
the main guy, and so they gotta make sure he's
ready for all that. Chris brus Sorry, check him out
on the Odd Couple, which follows this show in about
an hour and a half on Fox Sports Radio all
of our affiliates, seven o'clock Eastern for o'clock Pacific, along
with Rob Parker Cebe, thanks so much. Alright, let me
(01:52:21):
let me get you guys. The Glowing Trunk got his
eye on essentially everything. No pressurizing, No, not at all,
especially when you have a daylight today in the NBA doute,
starting with Steve Kirk confirming Kevin Durant status for Game two,
Kevin's not gonna play Sunday. I guess we've been, you know,
sort of holding out hope, but I might as well
just say it now. He has he's not practicing today.
(01:52:43):
He um, you know, we'll have a practice tomorrow, but
he's still progressing. It's um near impossible for him to
play on Sunday. However, the m r I on andre
Iguodala's left leg came out clean, so he is expected
to play in Game two on Sunday Day. Also today,
the NBA find the Los Angeles Clippers fifty thousand dollars
(01:53:04):
for tampering after the comments made by their head coach
Doc Rivers on Tuesday about Kawhi Leonard while Rivers was
serving as a guest analyst on an NBA Finals preview show.
The most like Jordan's that what we've seen, like there's
a lot of great players. Lebron is phenomenal. K he
is phenomenal, but when not that he is Jordan or
(01:53:26):
anything like that, but he's the most like him. PostScript.
This afternoon, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe caught up
with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who added some insight into
the fine of Rivers and the Clippers coaches or team
execkuts in those positions. You need to say, I'm not
permitted by the league to respond to that question. And
(01:53:48):
it's and it's it's a balance of interest. I understand that,
but but he unfortunately crossed the bright line. Of course uh.
In response to Doc Rivers Silver, I suppose could have
also cut me some slack Jack, I got Donald Sterling
off your back. Finally, in golf, in round two of
the Memorial Tiger Woods, even through sixteen holes, so he
(01:54:11):
is a two underpar overall, seven shots behind co leaders
Troy Merritt K h Lee and Martin Kaymer. Back to

(01:54:32):
Dr Farmers, were farmers under written my Farmer stock Fire

of the plural use of best friend has now seeped
into the spelling bee. I'll explain next. Be sure to
catch live editions of the Doug dot Leap Show weekdays

we are farmers underwritten my Farmers truck Fire insurance exchanges

This time we like to get you caught up on
the stories. Today we do so with something called the Press.
(01:55:35):
The Press, I Zike Loewenkron what do Yeah? Hey O Doug.
Earlier today Chris Haines joined you to talk NBA. And
Chris has a podcast in addition to his other exploits,
and his recent guest was none other than NBA Commissioner
Adam Silver, who was asked how the NBA will approach
(01:55:57):
its marijuana policies, and Silver responded and I quote, I'm sorry,
I press the wrong button there. Silver actually said, quote,
it has to be collectively bargained. So it's something we're
talking to the players Association about. You might be surprised
about this, but when I've talked to players about it,
I think they have mixed feelings. I think it's not
(01:56:20):
as much about what a guy is doing in the summer.
They want to smoke pot in the summer whatever. It's
legal in a lot of states. I do think there's
a little bit of concern about some of the pot
smoking in season unquote m hmm um, yeah. I think
guys there is there is the thought that you know,
(01:56:42):
this is not like football players you're stuck on or
who are uh, who are on opioids, and it's a
way to get them off opioids. Some guys will you know,
for pain tolerance, you know, for for paining maintenance, whatever
you smoke a j or whatever. Most of it is.
They just don't want. They don't want the perception of
guys just laying around all day in the hotel smoking weed.
(01:57:04):
They just don't. Not everybody gets high just because it's legal,
like and all honesty. I would say the rate of
people who smoke now as opposed to smoke before probably
that not that much higher. No pun intended onto a
sport that doesn't get much national coverage, but it couldn't
(01:57:25):
have been held off the news forever. The Scripts national
spelling be the nine Scripts National spelling be It ended
yesterday in an unprecedented eight ways high for the championship.
After the final eight contestants all spelled the final forty
(01:57:46):
seven words correctly, so they basically ran out of words
to spell. The first place winner was supposed to get
the fifty dollar prize. It now turns out that all
eight will get the fifty dollar prize. Yeah, this is
this is American. Now, when you say best friend, that
could be plural. When you can say spelling be champion,
it's it's with an S at the end. Um. Obviously,
(01:58:09):
this feels like the Major League Baseball game that ended
in a tie, didn't the I mean the ending in
the tie? And you're like, oh man, so I think
the way to fix in the future is to go
speed round. Sorry, can't give you country of origin, can't
use in a sentence, spell the word. That's a great idea. Here,
here's what I would have done. I would have had
(01:58:30):
them break the tie in a sports motif. So I
would have said, Okay, you got forty seven correct, here's
word Shachevski. Try that and if they all spell that right,
we'll move on to about war Janowski. And of course, yeah,
I think I could be wrong. I think they actually
(01:58:51):
get a list of all the words beforehand, and so yeah,
I think there's just I think it's a huge list,
but I think there's a list of all the words beforehand,
and so some of it is memory based. Interesting gottlie
G O, T T, L I E B. There you go.
We also have news related on another national pastime, drinking.
(01:59:16):
The SEC voted today to lift a ban on selling
alcoholic beverages at its sporting events. Do you mean to
tell me that all this time drinking has not been
legal in SEC games? Right? This is? This is yes,
it's a red herring. I mean l s U is like, wait,
what do we what flask flask sales are could go
(01:59:37):
down substantially at l s U. What are they gonna
do leading up to those eight p m kickoffs? That
kick and t looks hollow? Sir? May I see that?
By By the way, it's nice to know that the
SEC is unlocking a much needed stream of revenue, no
pun intended. We all know how hard up the SEC
(01:59:57):
is for cash these days. Now they add alcohol revenue
to it. Now, everything is gonna be legal, right, if
it can be taxed, it'll be if you can make
money on it'll be legal absolutely onto the NFL where
an injury instruct the Green Bay Packers their head coach
Matt Lafleur towards his achilles while playing basketball and so
(02:00:19):
he's gonna have to kind of coach from a cart
until it's healed. All Don Shula back in the day,
and it actually happened Doug when he was playing like
a variant of pick up basketball called knockout. Are you
familiar with knockout? Yeah, knockout or lightning. It's not really
pick up basketball the shooting game. And uh, most people
are sitting there now in their heads because they've either
(02:00:40):
played it or at at summer camp or their kids
kids love it. Kids like two things at summer at
best Our Basketball camp. They like watching the counselor's dunk
or playing knockout. And if they can play knockout with
the counselors and dunks are included, even better. Um. Basically
way knock works. These two basketballs in the line behind
(02:01:02):
the guys at the free throw line. First guy shoots.
After the first guy shoots, the second guy can shoot.
And if the second guy makes it before the first
guy does. At any time the guy in front of
him is out, and once you make it, you pass
back the next guy in line, and so on and
so forth until there's only two guys, and whoever tops
the other guy could be a game of topper. That's
who's out apparent, you know. Then they can get and
(02:01:22):
he can get crazy, and you can knock some guys
play dirty. We you can knock the ball around all
the time. But yeah, that's that's a pretty weak way
to tear tear your achilles tendon. Yeah, so there's gonna
be some snide remarks in the locker room over there
in title Town. Speaking of the NFL, Ian Rappaport reporting
that Gerald McCoy, free agent recently released by the Tampa
(02:01:44):
Bay Buccaneers, has finished his visit with the Carolina Panthers
and now we'll take the weekend to decide where where
he's gonna sign with next year. He also visited the
Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens, as I presumably wait
for his announcements in the Players Tribute. Mm hmmm, um.
(02:02:05):
The general McCoy thing is interesting. They save what three
million dollars by getting in domin consous instead of general McCoy.
I wonder how much Joe McCoy is gonna get in
the open market. I want the press, all right, Isaac
who wins Game two of the Raptors Warriors until Sunday
Game two though, Raptors, what do you think they're rhyme music?
(02:02:28):
I am actually gonna go with the Warriors, damn it.
I'm going with the Warriors. Going with the Warriors too.
I do think the Warriors bounce back. I think Draymond
plays better. I think Clay plays better. I think Staff
will still be steady. I'm not convinced Kauai. All the
other hand, Andrea Goodalla's injury gives me gives me some
some goose bumps. What about you, Ramos, you're gonna you're
(02:02:50):
gonna make it a tie? Are you gonna go with us?
I'm gonna tie. I like the Raptors by like seven points. Oh,
he's taking my pick from last night and using it
on his pick for Sunday. Sunday, playoff baseball for you?
No playoff baseball for howd you guys do a lost
eighteen to twelve, eighteen to twelve pitchers dual eighteen and two. Alright, well,
(02:03:12):
we have a big tournament in Newport Beach. If you
see me, say hi. In the meantime, make sure you
download the All Ball podcast. Henry Abbott from True Hoop
is my guest. We talked about all things NBA. I
think you'll be fascinated by it. I hate to say
I told you so. No, I don't hate it. I
love saying I told you so. Kevin Durant is the
best player in the game and a shocker. The Warriors
(02:03:34):
need him to win. I'm Doug Gottlieb. This is Fox
Sport tradeo.
