So Carson Wentz signs a huge contract extension. That is
the news of the day. We'll get you ready for
(01:02):
tonight's Game four NBA Finals in Oakland with Chris Haynes
from Yahoo Sports their NBA Insider. Uh, he'll join us upcoming.
We'll talk to Kyrie Irving, well Man I and Eagle
is gonna join us. He just got back from the
French Open. But I also want to get his perspective
on a guy who covers the NBA for T n
T and covers the nets for Yes Network, on on
(01:27):
exactly uh what they got ruined there, because it feels
like the chemistry is great, and my concern would be
that Kyrie does not make their chemistry in fact better.
Adam Capitlan will join us NFL Insider get his thoughts
on the Carson Wentz deal, and then we're also gonna
take you to UH to Jurassic Park and get an
(01:49):
update on how everybody in Toronto is feeling about this series.
So we we will cover football, we will cover and
we got I got a couple of baseball stories with
Dallas Kaikos signing, Craig Kimbrill signing. What I thought, what what?
What to make of Dallas kikos thirteen million dollar deal
with the Atlanta Braves. But I want to start with
the extension of Carson Wentz sixties six million dollars do
(02:14):
its signing Hudd twenty eight million dollars overall one and
seven point nine million dollars guaranteed it's a lot of money.
That is a lot, a lot a lot of money,
(02:36):
and um, what I think, what I believe to be true,
is that he's worth every penny. And there's been a
lot of nonsense coming out of Philadelphia about his inability
to lead, um and and about how they're you know,
he's not the guy who people portray him to being.
(02:58):
This this is Philadelphia saying, yes he is. And I
know that people you sit there and go like, well,
this is great for Dak Prescott. Maybe he did not,
in fact get top dollar. Thirty million a year is
not the top of the top of the top, and
usually the cases when you're in the top ten, whoever
(03:19):
has the next deal gets the most money. And oh yeah,
by the way, he's still not in the prime of
his career. Now you can say, well, he injured his
knee a year and a half ago and injured his
back last year, and when you're not available, that cuts
down your value. That's fine. But the fact is he
doesn't play a a totally reckless style of football. And
(03:41):
even though he didn't have his best year to date
this year, when he was last fully healthy, he was
likely the m v P of the league. And this
is Philadelphia getting ahead of it, saying like look, we
want costs certainty. We think contracts are going up. We
found a way to get a guy slightly below market value.
(04:06):
We extend him now. That way, we don't pay some
punishment of forty or fifty million dollars going up a
year from now. And I think all that is in
fact brilliant. Now it changes where the Philadelphia Eagles are
and where they're going to be over the next couple
of years, because they do have that much money locked
into one guy. And no team has gone through quarterbacks
(04:30):
because of injury quite like the Philadelphia Eagles over the
last five years. You know, go back and look at
all of the different starting quarterbacks they had, five, six,
seven years, It's like wow. But once you find your
guy and you lock in. And so my read on
(04:50):
this is really simple. I think Carson Wentz is great.
The league thinks Carson Wentz is great. He wasn't ever
going to become a free agent. But this gives you
cost certainty for the in the NFL. This is long
term future. You don't do a tenure deal in the NFL.
You do a deal like this one. So you pay
(05:10):
a big chunk up front and then you are set
at quarterback for the next five years as your guy,
and he's just out coming into his prime. And if
last year was the worst, they can live with that.
They can live with that. And while you're view of it,
(05:32):
maybe that Nick Foles was better in the playoffs, the
reality is that the league doesn't see it that way.
They don't see it that way, and they believe that
over a sixteen or maybe eighteen we know knows game
season that will play out. So and and if we
(05:53):
look at it from the perspective of Dak Prescott and
what he may get, you can't. I don't believe you
take into account what Dak didn't make over his first
three years because he was a fourth round draft pick.
That doesn't to me. There is no like, oh, we
didn't we underpaid you, then we're not gonna overpay you now.
I wouldn't do it that way. The news is not
(06:14):
great for Dak because usually the new deals end up
topping the older deals. And and and no, I don't
think Dak is as good or in the I'm sure
he's in the ballpark of Carson Wentz. But if that's
his contemporary and most people believe, myself included, and I
think most football people, real hardcore football people, tell you,
like Carson Wentz is demonstratly better than Dak Prescott. Dak
(06:37):
Press is a good fine, it's fine. If if Wentz
is worth thirty, then he's in the twenties, which is Look,
if you're making a million dollars a year and somebody says,
do you want to do you want to make twentyfold
what you're making? You go, yeah, sure anytime, But that
(07:00):
I don't. I do not think this is a reset
of the young quarterback market because if those teams are
smart and look the rams they overspent on a running
back early and it looks like they're gonna pay some
sort of penance for it, do they want to do
the same thing with Jared GoF? Like they like Jared Golf.
Doesn't mean you want to lose Jared Goff, but it
(07:20):
also doesn't mean you want to top Carson Wentz. Is deal? Why?
Because people don't think that Jared Goof's as good as
Carson Wentz. I don't do you you know, and and
we we also we do this thing. And I'm a
parent now so and some of you are as well.
And now you definitely remember when you were a kid.
(07:41):
Can I spend the night at Jimmy's house? No? Well
why not? Well Jimmy stays up too late? Yeah, I
did Jimmy. Jimmy's bed times at ten o'clock. You're bed
times a nine o'clock. Yeah, but Jimmy's. But like, you're
not Jimmy. I have this with my son all the
time he's in bed. We tried to have them in
(08:02):
bed eight fifteen. Try to have lights out at eight thirties,
ten years old. He's like, Dad, that's ridiculous. I was like, okay,
but here's the problem. He's like, well, my friends they
all go to bed at ten o'clock on weekends. Yeah,
you're up at six thirty weekends, weekdays doesn't matter, and
you have sports sometimes two. So we're not comparing incomparables.
(08:26):
You're not Jimmy. I'm not Jimmy's dad, right, Like my
my wife is. She's like the sleep sleepover nazi nobody likes.
She's like, I don't like sleepovers. And the big reason is,
like my kids all get up early, they just don't
sleep in. And when you have a sleepover, no one
goes to bed on time, and you don't want to
(08:46):
be the parents. It's like, all right, we gotta go
to bed like it's it's not it's the light outside.
Everything is different in context. And if you're Dak Prescott,
you probably think you should get more because you've got
less previous Lee and the Dallas Cowboys probably think you
should get less because you're not as good. And therein
lies the rub. You're not Carson Wentz and we're not
(09:10):
the Dallas and we're not the Philadelphia Eagles. We didn't
want a super Bowl And you're like, well he didn't
even win a super Bowl, like yeah, but also you weren't.
You were never an m VP candidate. He was the
m v P of the league and got hurt. So
I look at the contract thing, and I understand president
(09:31):
usually roused the rules to day whatever contract was before
the next contract. UPO sit by one dollar more right,
like like in family, not family feud. What's the price
is right? Seven and one dollars seven one dollars right?
We don't want to go over this ain't family feud.
(09:52):
This or price is right and it is not parenting,
but just it's just like parenting. Don't tell me what
time Jimmy goes to bed. Don't tell me how much
Carson Wentz's contract is Senator. I know Carson Wentz and
youth Senator are no Carson Wentz. And by the way,
even if we compared to Carson Wentz, he's viewed as
a top five, top ten quarterback in the craft and
(10:13):
he did not take top tier money in comparison to
what other guys have just recently gotten. NBA insider Chris
Haynes joins the show up coming next. He was the
first report Clay Thompson returning for tonight's game. But how
healthy is Clay? And how far away is k d
and what about about Kevon Looney? Plus one of the
news that now Brooklyn and Kyrie seemed to be a
(10:37):
match bade in heaven by now next, be sure to
catch live editions of The Doug Dot Leap Show week
days at noon Eastern three pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app Doug Got Leaps
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Chris Haynes is a
senior NBA insider for Yahoo Sports. Follow him on Twitter
at Chris B Haynes. Check out the Post Up with
(11:00):
Chris Haynes podcast. Chris, you were the first to report
that Clay Thompson was going to play tonight, but like
he just pulled his hamstring? How how healthy is he actually?
You know, the hamstring as always. You know, that's something
you never want to play with. Man, I don't think.
I don't think he's gonna be at all. But obviously
(11:21):
he felt good at to play a game three, and
the Warriors wanted to, you know, be extra cautious and
give him a couple more days off and get about
there for Game four tonight. So I don't know how
effective he's going to be, but just at least, you know,
to be able to use him as a decoy and
just to have another offensive option aside of Stephan Curry.
You know, I think that certainly will help him tonight.
(11:43):
What about Kevin Durant? What about? What about? What about
Kevin Durant? Like is uh is Kevin Durant close? Uh?
He's better. He's wrapped it up all week. Uh, most
people within the organization felt like he was going to
be it, but to give it a goat um for
you know, for this for to nice game. Obviously the
(12:06):
doctors felt like he still needed more time. And I
don't know though that that situation. Man's fluid, and you
know it'll it'll be tough. Like it's tough for me
to see him coming back in a scenario in which
says Toronto wins and I did up three months. I
mean the first game back, you know of Kevin Durant
(12:29):
from from an entry like that and with the front
court that Toronto has, is his first game back is
down three one in Toronto like that. That That's that
seems like a stretch right there. So, Uh, it's it's
it's very hard to see to see him making a
return at this point. Really. What about Kevon Looney, there's
(12:50):
been talking that he's going to try and make returns
by the fact that he was previously ruled out. Yeah,
I'm totally you know, he's a game time decision tonight. Uh,
I think he's going to happen injection today. Um So
it's it's a matter of pain tolerance with him and
also with the Warriors and they're they're they're extra extra
(13:10):
cautious and the injuries and handling the players and when
they return. So I think I think his his fate
is going to be left up to you know, really
pretty close to the tip to see if he can
go or not, but it's it's a good chance he's
back in the funnel. So what what is what's the
feeling around this thing? Like with so many injury concerns
(13:31):
with the Warriors, Like, what's what's what's the feeling around
the series? They really, you know, for the ass the
wars are stand for him. They feel like, you know,
they've been through this before. Uh. I would argue against that,
but they feel like they've been through this before. They've
they've been down there. You know, they're they're they're slogan
the strengthen numbers. Uh. You know, they've proven that they
(13:53):
can come back from from deficits and other guys to
step up. I will argue that, you know, this team
is not the teams of the previous four championships, I
mean previous four finals appearance teams that they lacked the
depth that they had and those other teams. And I
don't know necessarily that there is sprinted numbers with this roster.
Uh So I think this is just a different beast, man,
(14:15):
I really do. I really do think it's a different beast.
I really felt like the Warriors kind of kind of
gave that Game three away with Sittney Clay Thompson because
he really wanted to play. I think they felt like
obviously with Clay or k D, if they reaggurate that injury,
they's feel like they're out for the series. So they
don't want to jeopardize that. But at the same time,
(14:36):
this is the finest you know, so I just think
they're going to allow on their experience to try to
pull through. But I just think this time around it's
going to be tough for that to occur. I tend
to agree with you. Um Uh, it's just it's a weird,
like there's a weird like Draymond still seems like Draymond.
(14:57):
They're saying all the same things, but like this is
a good team that you know, Toronto has to have
that finish line in sight, and the chance of two
more home games, like did not a team to be trying,
which makes which makes tonight incredibly incredibly important. Um what
adjustments do you think the Warriors can make, especially with
(15:17):
you know, we don't know about play defensively offensively, you know,
he still shoot, but we don't know if you can
move defensively, and the chance they don't have Looney like
they were just getting way too many easy looks. Going
back to Game three, Yeah, I mean I ask you
a question that I don't know. I don't know. It's
just why what they can make and what they can
do because they lack a lot of options defensively and
(15:37):
offensively to trying to counter what Toronto was doing. You
just hope that you know, if you're a good State
Warris fan, that Clay Thompson can be effective offensive. But
you remember he's one of their best periber defenders as well,
and you know he always is one of the top
leaders in We're talking about Miles rans throughout the course
of the saving because he's always moving and so it's tough. Man.
(15:59):
That's why I said, like if if, if Golden State
got that game. That's why Game three was so important though,
and I'm not saying this series is is over by
any stretch of imagination, but Toronto showed me they're real.
Like I kind of expected or anticipated Golden State winning
that thing just based off the experience, even with Clay
being out. The Toronto showed us that, look, you can't
(16:21):
take you can't um those load management game during the
finals against US. You know we're going to take advantage
of it. You know, this is not the this is
not the Houston Rockets, this ain't the Portland's Trailblazers. They
for They're for real, and you know, I wonder if
Golden State is taking them lightly. I don't want to
take them lightly. I just don't think they had the
(16:41):
personnel for it. And it's at some point, you know,
you have to you have to try and find a
way to win for again, win three more games. Chris
Haines joining us on the Doug Gotlip Show on Fox
Sport trading. Big news in the NBA yesterday was that
the by trading Alan Crab the Brooklyn Nets cleared out
cap space for now two max players. And of course
previously that you talked about others to talked about the
(17:03):
idea that Kyrie Irving seems to be leading towards Brooklyn.
Um did what what changed yesterday from the perspective of
who do you think goes where now that Brooklyn has
opened up to max salary slots? Oh well, brooke Brooklyn
was always in place. I think what they did just
make sure they gave themselves an opportunity, Uh, not giving
(17:26):
ourselves opportunity, but make sure they showed everybody like, look,
we're going all in. This is what we're trying to do.
Come join us. And so from that standpoint, you have
to applaud Brooklyn from making the moves ahead of Tide.
They didn't have to do it right now, they could
have waited a little bit longer, but they did it.
They wanted to show, they want to show that they're
invested and you know they're they're for real. And so
with that being said, you know it's it's been for
(17:47):
about a month now where you've kind of connected Kyrie
and Brooklyn more so than Kyrie with the Knicks or
with Kyrie going back to Boston. So Brooklyn is making
a play man. They're they're trying to show everybody that
you know, there there's two teams uh in New York
and they want to show that they're the Apple Mill. Okay,
(18:08):
so what does that mean for Kevin Durant? That mean
it's Kevin Durratt. I mean, look, I think, um, if
he is looking to boat go to State, which I
think he has his options open at that this just
this moment, I don't know where he said it. I've
never been I've never confirmed anything like that's the final
(18:28):
that he's leaving. But you know, if he is leaving,
I mean, you gotta I think Kyrie might be off
the market. And if he's looking for a running mate,
you have to look at probably Kimba Walker and see what.
Look monitor his situation in Charlotte. You know he's up
for that Supermax. You know it's it's gonna be telling
if Charlotte issues that Supermax if they don't. And that's
(18:50):
why I see kimber Bolton and I think that's probably
the next logical running mate for kV should he decide
to leave, go to State. But so you don't think
Katy would go to don't think Katie would go to Brooklyn? Uh?
Do I think Katie would go to Brooklyn? My old
personal opinion right now is I don't know if I
(19:11):
see I don't know if I see that because I
haven't heard anything to family on that, So this is
just my opinion, but I haven't you know, would he
go there. I think he would look at him, you know,
I think he would look into him. Man, and I spect.
You know, they're making the moves, they're trying to be
major players. Remember, for for the longest time, New York
has kind of ran things as far as when we're
(19:32):
talking about teams over the summer, who's gonna make big moves.
It's pretty pretty bed, it's pretty bad New York mentioned
all season long. Now Brooklyn stepping in and boom. You know,
so I think I think Katie has to look into it,
But I I don't want to say anything the family
right now if he's gonna feel really seriously considered Brookly,
because I've heard that as a right now, all right,
what's the feeling around the series? Chris Haynes joining us
(19:54):
y'all who Sports senior NBA Insider about Kawhi Leonard right
like it was long thought, he's going to l A.
He's going to l A. He's going to l A.
There are three games away from winning their first ever title.
Um has Do you believe any of his feelings have changed.
I would think they have to do. You know. Look,
(20:15):
I was my my my colleague syrit Uh staying in Toronto,
my Yahoo colleague. We were having to talk it. You know,
it was in between game when the game too in
Toronto to talk about the chance of him both and
I said, look, I think it would be very hard
because I was thinking, Golden Statement gonna win this series,
and I think it would be hard for Kauai to
(20:37):
leave after getting to the finals and losing, because it
would be like business business. And if she gave me
a difference scenario, and that made me think of she said, well,
I think that she can leave now and be okay
because he's gotten them to a point that they've never been.
And she said, and if Toronto does win the championship,
he she definitely thinks he could leave because us he's
(21:00):
gotten into a place they've never been before. The the ultimate,
the ultimate accomplishment, and what else would he own the
city of Toronto. And I was like, I've never thought
about it like that, And so I'm saying all that
that does to say, I don't know what he's doing
right now. I have more, I have more of a
postal chauir properly. About a month ago, if you asked
me a month ago, I was, I still think he's leaving.
(21:22):
So now when everything has happened away, you know, everything
magically has just came together and it's up in the air.
There's there's only a few people, quite as a very
small circle humans. Uncle Dennis and his agent, and you
know I spoke to Uncle Dennis. You know, he got
him more record for my story about a week and
a half ago. Very small circle. So it's gonna be
(21:43):
hard to tell where he's gonna be leading. But well
we'll fight out soon enough for sure. Chris Haines joining
us from Yahoo Sports. And then you have the Lakers
and the discussion about Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis came out
earlier this week. Three teams Lakers, Clippers, and the Knicks. Um,
I've and lead to believe that the Celtics are still
gonna be in hot pursuit in spite of the fact
(22:03):
that he has given no promises and no assurances that
he even consider signing a long term deal. What are
you hearing in regards to Anthony Davis. It's the same
those three teams. Uh. You know, he really wants, he
really wants to start start a new uh get get
with a new franchise and try to kick things off
the right way. And the same with you know, with
(22:24):
David Griffin, you know, the new head of basketball operations
over there in New Orleans. You know, this is his ragine.
So he don't want he don't want this thing. To
drag out much longer. Um, he wants to get started.
He wants to get started with the people that want
to be there. And uh, you know, I think this
is going to end relatively quickly. I don't think we'll
have a long drawing out process throughout the off season.
(22:45):
But you know, the teams have to be a team's teams. Though.
If there's teams outside those three that's going to make
a make a play and trade for him, they got
to know that they're they're serious risk. And um, obviously
I think you know, Kauai Leonard his situation is gonna
be another case study similar to Paul yours that you know,
if he's praised for him, let's let's see what tires,
(23:05):
see what happens. But I just don't think that the
Anthony Davis situation, if a team outside that three trades
from eyes don't think it is it'll be a happy
ending Doug Olive Show here on Fox Sports Radio. What's
what's Lebron been telling people? Uh, as far as you
mean recruiting, like going out recruiting guys, No, in terms
(23:28):
of you know, there there has been talked, Hey, if
they strike out, he's gonna want out. I haven't heard
that at all. But again, Repeta Will. People have have
reported that I've heard he's very happy and that he
expects the Lakers to try and fix it. But look,
you you haven't. You have incredible list of sources and
people you're talking to. I'm just wondering, what what what
what Lebron's temperature over all of this discussion has been
(23:51):
in recent weeks. He's invested, he's invested, and to the
to the Los Angeles Lakers organization, he's invested to that,
you know, and to the to the city. I mean,
you know, he got his child, his son, and you
know it is in in one of the top top
high school's gonna play alongside uh, you know, his best
(24:12):
friend son, Dwayne Wade, and so you know that he's in.
He's in it. You know, he he committed four years
to that franchise and uh, you know, I don't expect.
I don't look anything can change. That's right now. I
haven't heard anything about it. They strike out to somebody's
gonna ask what's trade. I would be speculating, So I
can't confirm me in those reports. I haven't seen it,
(24:33):
but I can't confirm me at those right now. But
as of now, he's gonna be whatever the lectors need.
He's gonna be helpful and try to get some things
accomplishing something. But I haven't heard what he will do
if they strike out last thing. Um, A guy who
was a part owner of the Warriors pushes Kyle Lowry
and you know Lowry. Um. I thought Lowry during the
(24:56):
game handled a great right, Like that's that's what I
wish Russell West would have done during the Utah game.
Just get the guy ejected. Doesn't matter who it is.
You get him ejected. You have that power as a player.
And then he said something about it afterwards, and now
he's suspended for a year more than a year and
a five hundred thousand dollar fine. He accepted the punishment
and apologized and apologize apparently on a on a phone
call to Kyle Lowry as well. But this is interesting,
(25:19):
right because it's it's been an organization that's so seen
a so pro player. Uh, it's been an organization, um
that that has been kind of forward thinking. Um, do
you think there is there any effect tonight on the crowd,
on the way people are based upon everything that's happened
over the last forty eight hours. No, but I really
(25:42):
think that was an isolated situation. I don't think it
would be anything anything else around it or anything that's
going to stand out there. You know, the owner, he
stepped over the line. He was filling himself a little
bit too much, and he will ultimately punished. So I
don't think this is going to be something that we're
going to see a train and trind going on. I
(26:03):
really I wouldn't. I wouldn't mind. I wouldn't have minded,
you know, if if there was a more stiffer band.
But I'm comfortable. I was comfortable with what was implemented
on on Stevens that. Uh, there's no there was no
excuse for what he did. Uh. He needs to stay
in his place for man in his place, and he's
(26:24):
he's gonna be He's gonna remain in a new place.
And that's outside of the team and the team activities
for about a year. So who gets those big thing
is who gets those seats? Chris, I want those seats? Uh,
it's probably another billionaire. Du Sorry, I don't I don't
think you. I don't think you you fit that quieterer
to sit in No, see me or you for that matter.
Three three common guys are easy to find in Silicon Valley,
(26:45):
hard to find on the radio or in print, Chris Huh.
And then the last thing is you threw on and
you threw an incredible event which was televised right media
basketball one day kind of extravaganza. Did anyone get hurt? Um? Look,
there there were no injuries that needed to be reported
(27:06):
that day, but you know, obviously everybody is still in
the ill effects. Uh going into Game three and NBA
files you can see everybody walking with a limp and
and and it wasn't they wasn't walking with the swag walk.
It wasn't like that. They were literally hurt. You know.
We had one hard fall, We had a spill that
what what what? We We had a doctor rose and
(27:27):
they came and checked. It was a female. There's Michelle
Pool actually was her team who won the whole the
whole tournament. Uh. She had a spill, hard fall, but
she got up, dust herself off and got back in
there later roll. Outside of that, No, there was no
serious injuries, uh to report a t LS MCLs ABC's
they were all in place and we're good to go.
(27:48):
We're gonna do it even bigger next year. Awesome stuff, Chris,
thanks so much for joining us. A great event that
you put on, and we look forward to talk with
you as the series rolls on and we get closer
to free agency. Thanks for me our guest on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, that's posted up with Chris. Chris Haynes. Uh,
that's his podcast at Chris B. Haynes is the Twitter
handled be sure to catch live editions of The Doug
(28:09):
dot Leap Show week days at noon Eastern three pm Pacific.
Do you know music? What's coming up Saturday? Um? Huh?
The weekend? The weekend? Huh knows a sports Ralph knows
because he does this for a living and he takes
(28:30):
his job seriously. I just hear YouTube YouTube, you know,
chuckle along, French Open finals, French Open finals, and you
have thought you said sporting event, Doug. Wow, wow, wow,
you misled me on that question. We didn't say activities
that will be on TV. That's not an activity. You
don't like tennis. I'll just play it along. I know you,
(28:53):
I know you are, but look normally I would say,
like you know, it's it's it's like the Women's uh
Women's World Cup, Like unless Americans are playing, we don't
really care. But look, Rafa Nadal, I think he's won
eleven French Opens, eleven eleven French Opens and Novak Djokovic's
(29:16):
only won one and they're gonna match up in the finals,
right like these this is and and it's to me
this it's like a boxing Matt Tennis is boxing. You're
boxing with rackets, two guys in a ring kind of
confined area, and um, you know, like I don't love clay,
but you have the greatest clay court player ever ever,
(29:43):
and um you know, I mean like look, and I
don't know if Djokovic will get there. Sorry, I guess
Djokovic still has to beat um. Uh what is that
the time or theme whatever that he's Uh, they're tied
at one set and it was suspended because of rain.
But like Afy Doll has a chance of his twelve
French Open tow twelve. It's crazy crazy. I saw this,
(30:10):
Dallas Kaiko, I mentioned it. So Dallas Kaiko, uh and
Craig Kimbrell have now signed deals. Kaiko could have signed
a team option for seventeen million in change to remain
with the Houston Astros. Instead, he proverbially bet on himself,
(30:31):
and while betting on himself, he lands a thirteen million
dollar deal with the Atlanta Braves. Should be pointing out
the Braves or thirty three and twenty nine really remarkably young,
talented team in a division with the Gnats who now stink,
the Marlins who have tried to be bad and have
accomplished it, the Mets, who are some a mishmash um.
(30:55):
It feels like they're probably a playoff team, although they'll
have to fight off, you know, the Rockies and the
Padres and the Brewers and the Mets in order to
get there. So so Kaiko is now. And this all
depends how you look at it. If you pro rate
it like thirteen million for the remaining part of the
season is a lot like seventeen million, with the exception
(31:16):
the fact that it's not actually seventeen million dollars. Basically,
like I know that we think that football story like
football is a bad deal. These guys get contracts and
baseball is a better No one has snowed you more.
No one has snowed you more then baseball guy telling
(31:40):
you all their contracts are better not gonna be wrong.
Bryce Harper will never have to work again in his life.
He doesn't even really have to play baseball the rest
of his life with the with the money that he's
gonna make. Mike Trout, same thing. Trout, of course, has
been arguably the best player in sports the last five
or six years. And he and last year he aid
thirty million dollars. But your first three or four years
(32:02):
your major leagueree you're not making money at all. And
that's after you've been in the minor leagues where you
don't make money. So it weeds out guys substantially. But
the idea that well football contracts, they just Dallas kikos
Levy on Bell and instead of signing a franchise tag,
it was you know, team option whatever, same things. Seventeen
(32:24):
million dollars. And he's a really good left handed starting pitcher,
and after holding out and holding out and holding out
as a free agent, could sign anywhere. I mean, he
signs with the Atlanta Brators thirteen million for one year.
Now he'll get to play this game again this upcoming
off season. But he lost four million dollars. He's never
gonna get back much the way that Leviyan lost and
(32:46):
Levian remember could have joined at mid season and could
have made eight million dollars and made you know, eight
of the fourteen million dollars. He was like, it's the
same thing. Has nothing with race, honestly doesn't have to
his sport. It just test. It's just business. It's just business.
It's no personals, just business. Well, the NFL is to
(33:08):
spend one of its most talented players find out next.

like to get you caught up on stories and themes
and things you didn't know. We do so by playing
the game. Oka. This is game time on the Doug
Gottlieb Show. Game Time is brought to you by Discover Card.
We treat you like you'd treat you. Ralph Irvin treat
(33:53):
us to a game of psychic. Well, you know my news.
The game is psychic psychic. Did you know because I
am in fact psychic psychic? Well, we will find that
out right now, and we'll start with some potentially good
news for Chiefs fans, As District Attorney Steve Howard told
the Kansas City Star there is not an active investigation
(34:13):
regarding child abuse claims made against Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill,
despite the audio recordings that were released back in April.
Now is that it seems he will not be charged
with a crime. Will he still be suspended by the NFL? Yes,
I do believe he'll be suspended by the NFL. I
don't think it will be as bad as we thought
it would be, like season ending, career threatening. But I
(34:37):
think he'll be suspended mostly because of why he was
kicked out of oaklaom sake, because his previous domestic violence charge.
Like look, if you if you listen to it, if
you listen to it, there is no admittance of guilt
that that he he he hit his child, but there
is um and look, it doesn't come a ros great,
(35:01):
but there's some plausible denia. There's some deniability there. Maybe
not plausible, but there's some deniability there. Yeah, if and
and if with those recordings, they don't feel compelled to
press charges and to pursue any further I do think
there's an argument against, you know, a year long ban,
but you don't have to be you know, you don't
have to be charged with a crime in order to
be suspended by the NFL. Ben Roethlisberger was not. People
(35:23):
forget Ben Rothlisberger had multiple incidents, none of which he
was charged with the crime for, and yet he still
was suspended by the league. Now they've they've chosen to
suspend without charges a number of times. Speaking of which,
we look at Carson wentz new contract and what that
means for Dak Prescott. Now, let's discuss the quarterback that
(35:46):
was drafted one spot ahead of Wentz, that being Jared Goff.
Will he get a contract larger than that that went
and signed? No, you know, I because he's not as
good as Carson Wentz. Now, the only thing he has
going for or I mean in comparison, is he's hasn't
been injured as like Carson Wentz has been injured. But
Carson Wentz has been, by everyone's account, a better quarterback.
(36:08):
And I also think the Rams and the Todd Grilly
contracts gonna give them pause. He did take his team
to a super Bowl. He did, Carson Wentz hasn't done that.
His team went to Super Bowl, even though with a
backup quarterback. Who do you think is a better quarterback?
I think it's a toss up. Honestly, do you think
(36:29):
it's a toss up? Really? Yes? At this point? Yes,
Ramas you're a you're a Rams fan. Do you believe
Jared Goff is better than Carson Wentz? I don't think
right now he is better? No, So we were to one.
It's okay, Ralph. Ralph's rabhl makes a great point. He's like,
look proves in the pudding, and he did have some
big boy drives in the playoffs music. Where are you
(36:51):
on Wentz and Golf? I would take Wentz over Golf slightly,
but still it's it's it's close. Also, keep an eye
on college baseball Texas Tech Oaklahoma State Red Raiders loaded
up basis what else he got Ralph? They also have
a two nothing lead. Speaking of star at young quarterbacks
in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes entering the thirty year of
(37:12):
his contract following his MVP season. How much per year
will he get on his new deal? Keep in mind
Wilson's at thirty five, Ben's at thirty four, Errands at
thirty three and a half, Matt Ryan's at thirty. Uh.
I mean I would think more than anybody else, right, Whinney,
You'd think, so, yes, there's a guy that's going to
(37:32):
set reset the market and probably whatever he wants. I
think the question becomes, how do you continue to you know,
they may need a new wide receiver for Tyreek Hill,
they may need to continue to add to their you know,
the defense and the offensive line. But I would think
he'll set the market more so, you know, more so
than Carson Wentz did. This is game time on the
(37:57):
Duck Gottlieb Show. See that this is a thing. If
you've only lived in California, never really got into the
College World Series thing, the College World Series is pretty awesome. Uh.
The Super Regionals are taking place right now, and so
whoever wins the which is two teams and they go
at it for three games, best of three games. We
need to start overreacting to Mark the Mark Stevens story.
(38:21):
I'll explain next in The Doug got Leap Show Fox
Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug dot Leap Show weekdays at noon eastern three pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio
app What Doug Got Leap Show, Fox Sports Radio brought
to you by Farmers. At Farmers, we've seen almost everything,
so we know how to cover almost anything. When it's
game time, have an experienced player help you stay ahead
(38:42):
of the game, put their experience in the play at
Farmers dot Com are Farmers, so so we we reached
the point of which you know, like, look, when when
I first started working here, I didn't know Ryan Music
(39:02):
at all. Ryan Music is my producer, he has my
producer now for over two years. I knew who John
Ramos was because I did, in fact, listen to Fox
Sports Radio and everybody's like Ramos, and I was. I
felt like I knew John before I knew John. I
knew Dan Buyer because you know, even Ralph today, like
I've I've heard all of you guys. So it wasn't
like I didn't listen to Fox Sports Radio, even if
(39:24):
I was working at different networks. I always I listen
to everybody, But I didn't really know Ryan Music was young,
new in the business, working on weekends. I didn't know
what perspective he came from, and we generally kind of
vibe on a bunch of things, and he came in
one day and Ryan, if I'm if I'm incorrectly paraphrasing,
(39:45):
tell me. He's like, look, I grew up in the
valley in southern California, and um, I would consider myself
fairly liberal. But I hear some of these arguments by
people who now are seen as like liberal, and I
feel like the most conservative person on the planet. Right
is that my my incorrectly or is my overdoing it?
(40:08):
That's what I felt like yesterday, Like, look, I'm not
what what the what we've done is and this is
like politics on TV and Fox News, MSNBC, what they've done.
It's smart. How you win elections is how you win ratings.
The win like since you win ratings is you know,
(40:32):
like Fox News and conservative talk. It does better when
there was Obama in the White House or Clinton in
the white House, because then you got somebody complaining about
Now the beauty to President Trump is even conservatives, many
of them don't like him. So everybody's kind of a
business is good in progressive talk, conservative talk, left wing talk,
(40:55):
right wing talk. But what what has happened with politics
on TV? Has happened with suddenly how we view things.
Even in sports, we've we've become just divided. You're either
for us or you're against us. You're either pro or
your con And I always thought the world is really gray,
like really gray. Um. So, Mark Stevens is a billionaire
(41:24):
worth over two billion dollars and uh he when when
you hear the story like he shoved Kyle Lowry, Now, look,
I don't know intent and I don't know what he
was doing, and I gotta tell you, I think it
(41:45):
looked really silly. But I also didn't think it was
a shove. It was kind of a push. And he
never stood up, He never confined to go chest to chest.
He didn't bow up, as they say. But he did
something stupid, right, He's only Kyle Lowrd. He he pushed
him when he came Catarry came diving the stands for
(42:06):
a ball. So Stevens was suspended not just for the
remainder of this year, which it means he can't go
to the finals that sucks, and next year, which means,
you know, the new arena which was built for the
team that he put in and helped and owns, he
(42:26):
can't go there. And I'm sure he's had to pay
for his sticks, like he lived physically. Can I use them?
That I would stink? And he's been fine five hundred
thousand dollars, which that would that would stink too, Like
all of these things not good. And you can sit
here and tell and tell me, like how much he's
worth in five five dollars is a substantial fine. The
(42:50):
intent is twofold. One you don't want fans touching players, understood,
and two two you want to you want to embarrass
Mark Stevens. Both of these have been accomplished. Now if
(43:11):
we're gonna we're gonna limit ownership of a team and
find out because of what he's I don't want to hear.
It's because he's yelling at it at Kyle Lowry. Sorry, dude,
like Kyle Lowry, don't act like you're some you're all
of a sudden, soft and triggered and affected by some.
Do I think it's cool that adults yell at other
(43:32):
adults when they're playing sports. No, I think you sound
like an idiot. I do you sound like the dumbest
human being ever. Doesn't make you sound cool, It makes
you sound the opposite of cool. It blows my mind.
What adults will yell while watching a sporting event. On
(43:53):
the other hand, like didn't Raymond just kind of support
the fact that because Drake is Drake, he can say
what he wants to say. This was Draymond after Game
two talking about Drake as Drake talking on the sideline, Like,
I think so many people make a big deal out
(44:15):
of it. It is what it is. He a fan,
he talked, and it gets more attention because he's Drake.
So many people have complained about it, like you knowing
that any other fan do that, Yeah, any other fans
is not Drake, so they probably shouldn't be able to
do that. That's just kind of how the Cookie cromos us.
He's worked his ass off to be who he is,
and I think we all know when you do that,
you get more leashed than others. So I think there's
(44:38):
so much talking like the NBA needs us know they
don't like he worked to be who he is, you
should get more leashed. But I don't mind it. It's
fun for me. Yeah, So Mark Stevens worked his ass
off to get to where he got. I'm sure Draymond,
I'm sure Kyle Lowry and Truth didn't mind it. Look,
I'm not saying Kyle Lowry wasn't wasn't ticked off of
(45:00):
the guy pushed him. And like there's nothing Kyle Lowry
can he can't like knock that guy out for pushing you. Um,
but like what are we what are we doing here?
We were just taken this mob mentality of Okay, first,
suspend him for the year, which I kind of think
is enough, Like he's not going to go to the
(45:23):
last games at Oracle in the NBA Finals, and he's
been singled out and he's been named that's embarrassing and
that's punitive enough enough to keep anybody from doing it.
But okay, you want to suspend him for next year.
I would have just done it indefinitely. Hey he's got
(45:44):
to stay away from the team, you know, until further notice.
But now you're finding him five dollars Like okay, now,
now it's like dog pile on him. And then this
story from Dylan Buyers seen media reporter NBC and MSNBC
source says close to the Golden State Warriors tell me
(46:04):
Mark Stevens, the minority owner who pushed Kyle Lowry, will
likely be forced to shell his to sell his shares
before the start of next season. Now, Stevens um put
out a statement earlier today in which he apologized to
Kyle Lowry, apologized to the league, to the Warriors, said
he behavior wasn't acceptable. He accepts the previous punishments. I'm him.
(46:28):
I don't sell. There's no possible way, There's no reason
for him to sell, right like in it is always
fascinating to me again, this is this is from somebody
who I would consider myself more left leaning or a
centrist than right leaning. But I do find it fascinating
(46:49):
that many of the same people like Lebron James, who
are calling for Mark Stevens to have to sell his
shares are the same people who want to give everybody
else the second or third or fourth chance that that
in our country, you you get, you know that you're
(47:13):
you're We're all about, on one hand, not being overly
punitive towards crimes. It's one of the great things our
country is finally figured out. It's like, wait, I understand
that people who sold marijuana, you know, like that before
was illegal, Like they deserve to go to jail because
(47:33):
they were selling an illegal substance. But the punishments were
then overly punitive, and now it seems really really silly
to keep these people in jail. And so some of
the same people that are making the arguments about going
about the criminal justice system going too far or about
(47:55):
penalties that the NBA legislates going too far now are saying, well,
then this NBA is not going far enough because no
one wants to stand up and look, I don't know
the guy, you know. I know he donated money to USC,
and USC is a disaster too. I don't know he's
(48:16):
a good guy or bad guy. I know that he
lost his mind and he did something kind of stupid.
But it wasn't something like Kyle Lowry. Didn't turn around
slug him because it was nothing. It was just a
little push. That's it. You want to keep people from
doing it again. You want to embarrass the dude. Both
have been accomplished. But it's like, no, no, that's not enough.
(48:39):
Let's tack on something else. Let's make him sell the shares?
What why one he makes it will make a boatload
of money on selling the shares because he bought when
he bought low selling high. Secondly, like, how are you
going to control how somebody acts with what somebody says
when one time they we should do this. There's not
(49:00):
a series of events. There wasn't racio, epithet taths. He
was just a fan who got who was a little
bit too big for his bridges, who was like Drake,
only took an extra step instead of instead of just
talking trash. He actually had a one handed push when
Kyle Lowry came over towards him because he dove for
(49:22):
a ball. What what what are what are we doing?
Let this dude go away, stay away, Hill be back
and like most minorities in the NBA, minority owners in
the NBA, you'll never know he actually exists. But we've
gotten to this point where Ryan Music said, like even
people that like I, I generally agree with most left
(49:46):
leaning agenda. That's that's my belief system. You're allowed to
have a different one. You make us feel like we're
Jerry Folwell, you know, you make us feel like we're
the only like we're the rightest of right winger. And
it's it's you know, fringe political talk gets rears its
head in the NBA. There was nothing criminal that he did.
(50:09):
He didn't try and start a fight, he didn't bow up,
He didn't stand up, he didn't point at, He shoved
a due to dove next to probably in his ladies lap.
And if you think everybody does the right thing under duress,
you should watch a show. There's a show that used
to have in summers. It's called what would You Do?
And the idea is like stroller rolling down the street
(50:31):
with nobody touching. It looks like there's two babies in it.
What would you Do? They wouldn't have a TV show
if everyone who was put in that situation did the
right thing. People do the wrong things. And he came
away from the for the finals. I guess for next year,
and you find me make him sell his shares in
(50:52):
the team too much? I An eagle from CBS Sports
joins us. He also calls the Nets games for UH
the S Network. He joins the show what What did? What?
Did he notice about the change this year not just
in the talent, but the chemistry of the Nets And
does Kyrie Irving make them a better team along with
(51:13):
that chemistry? We'll ask him next. Be sure to catch
live editions so the Doug dot Leap Show weekdays at
noon eastern three pm Pacific. Doug Golap show rolls on
Fox Sports. Tread to hear I'm calling the NFL on CBS,
the NBA on either Turner or the S Network, and
you may have heard him call the uh French Open.
He's the one and only iron Eagle, just back from
(51:35):
from Paris Um semifinals. Not yet in in the book,
what's what's that event? Actually? Like I am like I
I didn't have you on to talk French Open, but
I'm fired up at the possibility of Djokovic and Nadal
facing off. For Nadal's was that it would be his
twelve French Open title. What what? What's that? What's that place? Like? Well,
let me first say this, dog, I've been doing the
(51:56):
French Open thirteen years and I've retained no French. I
don't know if that's possible. I think I know less
French than I did when I took the gig thirteen
years ago. It's it's a very odd Benjamin language situation
that's happening to So why do do you speak any
foreign language at all? No? No, that was that was
(52:21):
my French? Right, Yeah, yeah, because you can do you do?
We know? And Sebon I think you probably learned that
for next year. The event is actually really unique, cool event.
The way that the grounds are set up, it's very tight,
(52:42):
and I can tell you, just having now been experienced,
that the odors of the world also come into formation
when you're walking the grounds. That's that's something I learned
right away. But the actual event is grueling for the players,
right clay a just changes the whole tenor of the tournament,
(53:04):
and the doll is a machine. He was built for this,
He was programmed for this, and he's going to go
down as the greatest clay court player ever because his style,
which shuits this surface perfectly, is probably not ever going
to be matched. You just you're just not going to
(53:26):
see anyone that plays like him. Every single point is
like a championship point for him, and it works on
red clay. It may not work on all the surfaces.
He's been successful elsewhere, but on this particular surface, he
is the master. Well, that's been great to see a
joke about. Obviously he's only one at once, and he's
still got to get past the semifinals to face him,
(53:46):
but that would be a titanic showdown. Yesterday, Well, I
think you're in transit, or maybe you already landed. The
Nets the team You're there their hometown announcer for for
for TV the Net Straightaway, Alan Crab, Sizeable, cont Tracked
and another first round pick. They got Tory and Green,
but really was a move to open up to max
salary slots. My view from Afar is boy. Between Sean
(54:10):
Marks and Kenny Atkinson, they inherited a mess financially and
it was hard to find a way for them to
dig out of it. And they they adapted the style
and the ideas of playing you know, analytics basketball, shooting
a ton of three threes and layups and getting rid
of the mid range. And they took a couple of
chances and one of those was D'Angelo Russell and it
(54:30):
was the the culture around D'Angelo that that allowed him
and helped him in towards maturing, allowed him to have
this breakout season which he was named like an All
Star replacement. Is that a fair assessment of what's taking
place for the past couple of years. Yeah, very fair,
and I think you you nailed it on a number
of levels. The development part of it was the main
(54:52):
objective when both Shawn Marks and Kenny Atkinson took the job.
The idea that Hey, players are gonna get here, They're
gonna get into this culture, they're gonna win, prove, and
they're gonna want to be coached because they know that
these coaches can help them get to where they want
to be as a player, financially, all of that. And
that's exactly how it's played out. And look, what happened
(55:13):
yesterday can't become official until about twenty nine days from now,
just based on the calendar and how the salary cap works.
But it's a runway for them. It provides now options, flexibility,
and while nothing's been said in stone, we notice there's
a lot of speculation this time of year. The NBA
(55:36):
has truly benefited from the buzz of free agency and
it's becoming a twelve month a year sport, and what's
happening off the court sometimes is of even more priority
than what's happening on the court. With that said, they've
prepared themselves. They put themselves in a position to now
(55:57):
make some monster moves if things break a certain way,
and if not, they still believe they have a young core,
They still believe that they're doing things the right way,
and they believe that they'll take another step in but
there's no doubt that their calendar changed when they had
the success from last year, and I think it's spinned
up the process of that. Okay, But but and sometimes though,
(56:20):
you know, like when you skip steps that you get
a little bit ahead of yourself. Now, they've been here before, right,
They cleared out the salary cap space to get Darren
Williams and Dwight Howard, and they got Darren and that
never that that didn't pan out as well as they
would have liked, and they never got Dwight Howard, And
maybe that ends up being a good thing. I'm I'm,
I'm I'm kind of curious about the Kyrie thing. You
mentioned that if you it's they come from. All these
(56:41):
guys are kind of come from that spurs mentality. You
gotta you know, get over yourself and and and allow
yourself to be coached. Doesn't that go counter to some
of the reputation that Kyrie has has earned himself while
he's been in Boston. Yeah, I think Kyrie's last season
has changed the way that he's viewed by others in
(57:05):
the NBA. It doesn't mean that that's the reality. It
just means this is now part of his persona. It's
twenty seven years old. They certainly have done their homework.
There must be a belief that if he gets into
their system, with their coaches and their way of doing things,
that his style could fit with what exactly they want
(57:27):
to do. Now, this isn't by happenstance. They're not making
decisions just based on hey, this seems like a good idea.
This is years and years and years of getting ready
for this moment. And I do think there's a credibility
part of it that comes into play, the fact that
the nets are in the conversation, The fact that the
nets are relevant, the fact that you've called me to
(57:49):
discuss the nets at this time of year would not
have been even remotely feasible three years ago. You could
not have predicted, did it. So I think a lot
of it is more general in the nets are now
considered a factor. They're considered an option for big name
free agents. And now you've got to put round pegs
(58:13):
into round holes and square pegs into square holes. You've
got to see if if this is really a good
fit and whether or not you want to take that
next step from a marriage standpoint, because because you're marrying
this free agent and you're changing the way that you've
gone about your business. You better be sure that that
this is a real fit moving forward. Yeah, that's it.
(58:37):
It's a great point. It's it's an an excellent excellent point.
Is that like and we I produced Now, we were
talking about this before we had gone. It was the
idea of like, it's not like you bring it in
for a year, you know your you sign him, it's
four years, and it's gonna make more money than anybody else.
And and it it's it's hard after even one year
to say, hey, this doesn't work, let's move on from him. Um.
(58:59):
And so you better make sure before you have them
signed the line that has dotted. Um. Last thing, I mean,
no one knows the vibe of New York like you
I And I mean, let's just be honest, you know you.
When I think of New York, I think of an
Eagle first and foremost, I think of everybody else second. Yes,
the lowest rated finals in modern NBA history was the
(59:23):
everybody says the Spurs was the Spurs against the nets
and the nets. And I get that Brooklyn is hot, right,
like I get Williamsburg is as expensive as any place
in on the island of Manhattan to live seemingly. But
it's still Brooklyn. It's still the Nets, you know, like
and I know you. You work for Yes and you
cover the game, so it's hard. But has that changed
(59:43):
at all? Like it's the Knicks haven't been as good
as the Nets for the last twenty five years, probably
you know, eighteen nineteen of them. They haven't been as
good as the Nets, or they've been parallel at best.
But it's not the same. It's there the Mets. They're
the Jets, they're the second class. Has that change instead?
All it has changed? There's been a shift. I will
(01:00:04):
tell you that I've been doing the games for twenty
five years. Obviously, when they were in New Jersey, it
was a step child scenario. It was an afterthought. And
when they made the finals that year, there was still
a lot of skepticism and it didn't feel like a
big event. I can tell you that the playoff games
this year against Philadelphia, it did feel special. It did
(01:00:25):
feel different, even from the previous playoff runs. In the
Brooklyn iteration. There is something happening. I have sent something
different traveling the country. Questions about the Nets, queries about
this franchise, queries about Brooklyn itself. Look, they're not going
(01:00:45):
to overtake the Knicks, and I don't even think that's
their goal, to be perfectly honest with you. I know
a lot of people from the outside looking in see
it that way because you've got two teams in the
same market. I think Shawn Mark's goal is big stune
a championship, and if, oh, by the way, a byproduct
happens to be your enticing free agents that the Knicks
(01:01:08):
were interested in, that's just an added bonus. But if
they didn't think those guys fit with what they were
trying to do, I don't think that they would go
after them just because the Knicks have shown interest. The
Knicks are part of the equation, of course, I think
the Nets are operating under a different theory and it's
a larger scale for them. Trust me, if this team
(01:01:30):
keeps winning, keeps improving, I've already seen a change in
the way they're viewed, not only nationally but locally as well.
They're certainly in the conversation more than they've ever been.
Um those how long does it take your your nose
to adjust to the smells of new York as a
part of the Smells of the World, which you you
(01:01:50):
painted such a vivid picture for Roland Garlos. You're like, yeah,
this smells of the world, Like that does not sound
like a compliment. Um, how long does it take to adjust?
So so you're saying that my image of international d
O didn't didn't make your day. I know, I actually
knew exactly what I told his story the other day
(01:02:11):
when I played, When I played I when I played
in Russia, we had and you know, like the Russians,
a lot of them don't use the like we had.
All of our players had traveled, you know, around Europe
and played and so we only we only had one
dude who had that stink BO. But I'm telling you,
when you got it on you in practice, you couldn't
get it off. I couldn't go off. And then he
(01:02:33):
would smoke in the shower and it would like it
made it worse, not better. Like it was like the
like you smelled the smoke or and it it it
pushed away the b O. It was like a combined
for the super stink. And that's that's something that only
happens in Europe. That's something you could only explain if
you're like you ever been to Europe and somebody really
smells and then they start smoking and it gets worse,
like yeah, that's what I smelled. Yeah, no, that that happened.
(01:02:57):
That happened to me this past week. Or they've added
a new court over a rolling garrison. It's beautiful. It
might be the nicest court in tennis. It's uh the
mat two chord and to get there is about a
mile hike from the other courts. So when you're assigned
that court, you go, okay, I'm gonna leave myself enough time.
I'm gonna get over there. And you're right up in
(01:03:20):
it and getting out of that court. It was a
one Martin del Potro match. I was trying to get
back to our central area and it was like I
was on line for Space Mountain. It was not moving,
There was no fast pass. Nothing was going to happen
for me. And yes, I uh, I was in a
(01:03:41):
shower with a Russian basketball team with one guy smoking.
That's that's exactly what I felt like. Welcome home, thanks
for joining us. Then let's catch up. Stood all right,

Kaplan NFL. Check out his podcast Inside the Birds. He
joins U in the Doug Otlip Show Fox Boards Radio,
and Adam of course joining us with Carson Wentz signs
a massive deal to remain as starting quarterback for the
(01:04:26):
long term future. Not a surprise with the Eagles. Adam,
what's your reaction to the numbers? Well, look, thirty too many? Year? Is?
I pegged it between thirty two million. Let's let's understand though.
The Eagles did this super early. They had him for
this year next year on the fifth year option, which
they already exercised, and they had two franchise tags available
(01:04:46):
to them, so they could have actually kept them under
their control without doing extension for four more years and
not do anything. So they did this early. This is
typically what they do. They did this with Joe Banner,
the former president, early two thousands. They would take the
early risk, but they were but the player would take
the long term risk. Because if he plays well doesn't
(01:05:07):
get hurt, that means he gets a deal that looks
to be undervalued over a period of time. So that
that that's kind of what I thought would happen. It did.
Both sides, I know, are very happy about this. And
then you know, for once this situation, Doug, you know
it does not have to worry about this Baceo's injury history,
that this is behind him. He knows they've taken care
of him, and this is one thing he doesn't have
to worry about. Yeah. I mean, and I think most
(01:05:28):
of us are sitting here, non Eagles followers like not
in her head, there are the people like, well, you know,
Foals won the Super Bowl and Falls was like, yeah,
this guy was an m v P before he got hurt.
And and and as as great as Foals was in
his last I don't know two games, um in the
Super Bowl year, Uh, he was equally putrid at times
(01:05:50):
early on, and that when he first got the football,
he wasn't great, even early in the playoffs that year
wasn't great. And then this year, one of the reasons
they rushed Carson Wentz back was because full you know, Falls,
Nick Foles is is Nick Foles um. But but but
was was that always a feeling in inside the locker
room right that Whence was the guy? Whence is the
(01:06:13):
franchise guy? Or did they need this type of contract
in order to cement it. I think the ladder there's
there's something to that. I think think they felt like,
let's get this done now. Well, obviously full sign with
Jackson the line with it, that's that's the first thing.
But they wanted to show everybody that this is their
guy for the future, this is the franchise quarterback. It
(01:06:34):
was a port to the Eagles and talking to them
that they took care of this. Now talking to the Jaguars.
Interesting when you when you talk about the Nick full situation.
I was talking to someone in the front office not
too long ago, and we were just talking about folds
and how well he could do. I said, I I said,
I'm boy, I'm surprised that you guys are paying him
as much as you are. He's never done it for
a full season. So this guy, the guy from the
(01:06:56):
front office, said hey, wait a minute, if you put
together his last six games. The guy actually knew the
staffs off the top of his head. Doug it was
kind of comical as though he knew I was going
to go there, But you were absolutely right, Folds. Despite
everything he did under Chip Kelly, Let's not forget after
the season he was going to retire until and he
re talked him out of it. For one season he
was with the Chiefs. Let's not forget about that. So
(01:07:18):
you nail that. Here's the guys that had somewhat of
a shaky career has shown though the ability and limited
time to do very well. And I could tell you
talking to the Jaguars last week, they said he looked
and he's looked incredible, like even better than they had imagine.
And don't forget his quarterbacks coach d Filippo, who he
had with the Eagles and now the still yeah, Adam
(01:07:39):
Gablin joining us gotlip show Fox Sports Radio. Okay, So, um,
how does this affect the Eagles in terms of everybody else? Right? Like,
that's a substantial chunk of money, sixty six million dollars guaranteed,
and I know there's there's ways to manipulate the cap,
but how how does this affect them in terms of
filling out the roster with other guys who want to
(01:08:01):
get paid. Yeah, so so, Doug. They feel pretty good
about it. Now, Malcolm Jenkins has not reported to their
off season program. If he doesn't report next week, then
you know that he wants something done with his contract.
Malcolm is one of their leaders. He liked something my
understanding that he wants his contract adjusted to reflect his
his part of the team's success. He's a leader. He's
(01:08:22):
been one of the best resent signings in the last
twenty years for the football team. And they've got pretty
much everyone else done. Now that they've got once done,
they don't really have much else to do here. They're
in great camp position. They had over twenty million before
this extension, and this one will eat up some of it.
But they're in pretty good shape. This one, I could
tell you from talking Eagles. They're Doug. They had planned
(01:08:42):
for this after the last season. They wanted this is
a major priority for them. They wanted to take care
of this and they've done that the last couple of years.
They've extended a bunch of players, and they also decline
a couple options of players that that they weren't sure about.
Stefan Wesnowski. Will they re signed him? Say with him
Journey who used to be a starter. He's backed as
a backup. What about the quarterback market? Now you got,
(01:09:07):
you know, the Jared Goffs of the world, you got
the Dak Prescott's of the world. I noticed that because
it wasn't um, you know, because it wasn't full price.
You know, it's not that he's not the highest paid guy. Actually,
I'm not sure this is great for Dak Um or
great for for Jared Goff a guy willing to take
a little bit less, because normally these deals it's one
(01:09:28):
dollar more than whoever the guy was before. Then how
do you think this affects those other quarterbacks in in
one either his draft class or in other draft classes
around that same time. Alright, so Doug, let's take a
look at the the the the sort of from a
macro view. Remember, let's not forget Prescott is on the
Fannie of his rookie deal. He's not on a fifth
year option. Anyone who was drafted outside the first round
(01:09:50):
does not have the fifth year. And remember Whence was
the first round pick, so he was on his fourth year,
plus you have the option. Then the Eagles could have
used to franchise tax. So the Cowboys are gonna get
this done. I believe it'll get done by the start
of training camp. And now that they know what the
Wentz deal looks like. And although it's interesting, some people
really thought that Prescott would go first then Wentz, but
(01:10:11):
on they're a little bit different stages of their career
based on where they were drafted and their current contract.
But Prescott should be again should get done. Um obviously
is gonna want to be thirty two million. And the
question there that you know, the Cowboys have so many
extensions to do. This one's gonna be interesting because they've
(01:10:31):
got Prescott Byron Jones, they're outstanding cornerback uh Ezekiel l
A if they want to get him done, and there's
a couple other guys that are looking at so that
this one is gonna be interesting. And then Jared Goff.
My senses from talking to people around the league that
Goff probably won't get done this year. They the Rams
have pretty much said that this would be a little
bit further down the line. And the funny thing is
(01:10:53):
they were drafted one pick from each other, Goff one
Wentz too, and they're also represented by the same agency.
And then Patrick Mahomes next year. They can't do it
this year. That deal, Remember he's on the third year
of his rookie deal. The Mahomes deal, well, not only
if he gets it done, should be the richest in
NFL history for any player. I think he could hit
forty million dollars a season. I really believe that if
(01:11:16):
he does as well as he did last year's even
close to it. Because he's such an outlier for the
quarterback position. No one has ever seen him anyone like this,
and he's a guy could take it the the the
quarterback contracts to the next level. Don't forget that when
we look at these quarterback contracts. Russell Wilson got the
big one at thirty five million. I think that I
(01:11:36):
think Mahomes could reach if he has another monster season
forty million per season. Yeah, last thing really quickly. And
Tyreek Hill, it doesn't appear that that the kans City
Police Department is going to pursue this thing anymore. What
do you think the league does? Yeah, I think he'll
wind up getting suspended. But remember they cannot figure out
how the child was harmed. Was it by Hill or
(01:11:59):
or his is his girlfriend? Who who he's been with
for a while and he's had a bunch of kids
with So it doesn't mean you don't forget the NFL
does no longer really relies on law enforcement as it
did but prior to the ray Right situation. So um,
but it may not be the kind of suspension most
people were expecting. There was a lot of Twitter reaction, obviously,
(01:12:19):
Doug win Um the story came out, and I look,
we're all human. It was pretty ugly, which would which
had been documented, but now we we look at a
little differently. But again I expect him to get to
spend it. But the question is how long it's going
to be and how how are they what kind of
information do this does the league have and that that's
certainly going to be at issue here. And then the
other part is what are the chiefs do right because
(01:12:41):
they've had this is not their first run in with
the with the domestic violence, and it wasn't like this
is his first defense in the NFL if they feel
like the defense but not his first defense you know,
as a human being. And it's it's a really hard
one and it does affect Pat Mahomes because it's the
most explosive offense and he's the most explosive player. Adam Applin,

so much for joining us, Thank you. Chris Carter thinks
Kyrie is headed to the Nets, But what about Kevin Durant.
That's my question. You'll have to stay tuned. It's next.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug dot
Leaps Show weekdays at noon eastern three pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Why
(01:13:25):
kid name Alex Garcia just got into one for Oklahoma
State six three now in the fifth. Sorry watching college baseball.
I did college baseball every day at this time. The
Doug gal Leap Show, we like to bring back something
we heard earlier on Fox Sports Radio or FS one.
We call it. This is Chris Carter. The show is
(01:13:47):
called First Things, First Mornings on Fox Sports One earlier
today talking about the Nets trade and where Kyrie Irving
will play next season, the interest in Brooklyn, and not
only his interests, but the people that are close to him.
One of his advised just wants him in New York.
His dad potentially wants him with the nets. That's been
known for a long long time. And I have a
(01:14:08):
source that tells me that Kyrie is trying to pursue
Kevin Durant. Now it's not going to work, but he
has reached out to them and tried to persuade him.
And then that was validated the information I had by
based on what they did yesterday. Yeah, I don't think
any of that's a surprise. I mean, right, we we
(01:14:28):
knew that Kyrie, we had been rumored Brooklyn was a possibility,
and that he'd want to try and get Katie. The
big question my questions are could he get k D
And secondly, you know, does Kyrie actually fit with the
culture that they've established in Brooklyn. That's a big thing.
And and maybe they maybe they feel like they can
(01:14:51):
just you know, they can kind of overwhelm uh Kyrie
into doing it their way, right, That's what they did
with yet Daniel Rust. The problem with Kyrie is because
he's won before, and because he's you know, he's done
movies and he's he has his own shoe, and he
views himself as a superstar. He just he might be
(01:15:12):
past that point of being able to adapt to a
different culture because he couldn't adapt to the culture of
the Boston Celtics. Maybe he can, Maybe what can see
be seen as a failed season can can wake him
up and a lot and and change him kind of
back a little bit. But I don't know. I don't
that's my bearer concern. And then as far as Kevin Durant,
(01:15:35):
I don't see it. But the issue that the Knicks
have is that no one wants to take money from
Jim Dolan. That's seen as uncool, even though Jim Dolan
has nothing to do with basketball, and these guys don't
want to go and be a one man band. They
they saw Steph Curry as a one man band the
other night and they realized that that is not something
(01:15:57):
that generally works out to be in an anyway successful.
It's not fun and you end up looking the words
for it, even if your stats are great. So you know,
I I agree with with Chris. Everyone's saying Brooklyn for Kyrie,
We'll see it, will believe it when it happens. That
would be a game changer. But he wouldn't be the
(01:16:18):
first big name free agent point guard to choose the Nets.
Darren Williams did the exact same thing. But remember Darren
Williams couldn't get Dwight Howard. Can Kyrie Irving get Kevin Durant?
All right? A lot to get two third hour of
the show. Um, I know Clay Thompson is back tonight
(01:16:39):
and that was announced yesterday. Kevin Durant is not back tonight.
Kavan Looney is day to day is questionable, But there's
something about tonight's game that just doesn't add up. Tell
you what it is next on The Doug Gotlap Show
here on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Doug got Leap Show week days at
(01:16:59):
new Eastern three pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio app. What Up Doug Godlip Show,
Fox Sports Radio. You know what's interesting about Vegas? We
we get this this. There's a thing we always say
(01:17:21):
which is not actually accurate at all about Vegas. I'll
prove it to you in a second. The Doug Godlap
Shows brought to you by Farmers. At Farmers, we've seen
almost everything, so we know to cover almost anything. When
it's game time, have an experienced player help you stay
out of the game, put their experience into play. At
Farmers dot Com get you know, like we operate under
this premise at Vegas knows when I turned when when
(01:17:42):
I pressed the off button on our studio on Wednesday,
and Ramos, you have the tape music you were here,
um and you so tell me if I'm having selective
memory loss, but I distinctly remember, distinctly remember saying, Clay
(01:18:02):
Thompson plays, I take the Warriors, but I don't think
he plays. And I take the Raptors and I and
I remember saying, and I don't know if I said
it by it, I don't think it'd be particularly close.
So we we do operate in this premise that the
Vegas knows well Vegas had the Warriors is a two
and a half point favorite, even at tip off time,
(01:18:24):
even after we had been told Clay Thompson wouldn't play.
Now that doesn't mean just because they got the line wrong,
that doesn't mean that Vegas is a bunch of idiots.
But they really swung and miss bad on that one,
like it was. I don't even think it was as
close as the final score. There was some boardom that's
(01:18:46):
set in. There was a magnificent performance by Steph Curry.
You know, a couple other guys you know played. You know,
Quinn Cook could go in there and not get his
shot blocked. It might have been even closer. There was
some complacency with the Toronto rapp Is where they got
a big lead and they kind of let's let's get
through this thing. But the line was not close. And
(01:19:09):
so I look at tonight and it's like, Wow, Warriors
four and a half point favorite versus the Raptors, and
I think the same thing. I just think that the
thing is off. It's and I don't I don't even
look at it as they're not doing it in terms
of Vegas doesn't act with the respect and you don't
respect us. I don't think that's what it is. We
(01:19:33):
have a hard time believing that that the Raptors um
can win a game and where Clay plays, because last
time Clay played, even though he missed the end of
the game on their own home floor, they lost. But
you're gonna play a guy who's could not possibly be
a percent healthy. They also don't, at least to this
(01:19:58):
point that we know of, they don't have Kevan Luney,
who I think that changes them a great deal. They're
not going to have Kevin Durant and as well as
DeMarcus Cousins played in game two. He looked equally bad
in Game three and frankly in Game one as well.
That feel game two feels like the outlier. And then
(01:20:19):
here's Chris Haynes from Yahoo Sports on Clay Thompson. How
effective Chris thinks he'll be tonight. You know, the hamstring
is always you know, that's something you never want to
play with. I don't think he's gonna be at all.
So obviously he felt good at to play a Game three,
and the Warriors wanted to, you know, be extra costs
and give him a couple more days off and get
him out there for Game four tonight. So I don't
(01:20:40):
know how effective he's going to be, but just at least,
you know, to be able to use him as a decoy,
and just to have another office option aside of Stephan
Curry that certainly will help him tonight. Yeah. I just like,
they don't need a decoy, they need a score, they
need a weapon. I understand what he's saying, like, look,
(01:21:03):
you need space for Steff to be Steph and this
takes at least even if he can't move, you still
operate under the assumption that he can still shoot, and
you gotta still take a guy and never leave him.
But if he can't plant, he can't cut. He's not
saying and he's constantly going to the hamstring and it
ain't right Like this one, it feels really I feel
(01:21:27):
really good. The other night when he was two and
a half at game time, I wish I was one
of those guys that could go to my there's a
new app this Fox go bet app or something, Well,
you're gonna be able to I wish I was one
of those guys that had a huge bankroll and that
just go like, oh, that's an easy one, because I
(01:21:48):
felt like money was being given away, just handed away,
and I kind of feel like that's the same thing tonight.
Doesn't make sense to me, And I know you're sitting
You're sitting there going like, hey, anytime the line doesn't
make sense to you, it makes sense to Vegas. Trust me,
it'll play out that way you have. But the two
(01:22:10):
and a half point line didn't make sense to me
the other night, and it doesn't make sense to me now.
There's nothing about this game outside of it being in
Oakland that screams the Warriors should be four and a
half point favorites. Doesn't mean they can't win, doesn't mean
they can't lose, win by you know that doesn't doesn't
(01:22:33):
mean they can't win. But in terms of the the
general forecast, not knowing how Clay plays, no Kevan Looney,
no Kevin Durant, and you're playing against a good team
that seems to be with the exception of Kauai Leonard
healthy in their own right. I don't I don't understand it. Yes, uh,
Ryan Music. So if Clay Thompson is not going to
(01:22:54):
be a which is what Chris Haynes said, the guy
who broke the news that he would be playing, ing,
if he's out there to be a quote unquote decoy,
couldn't you just do the whole like a we dare
him to shoot, like you pull off him and sure, okay,
if he makes the first couple, then you adjust, But
(01:23:15):
what what if he misses those first couple of shots?
And then from a defensive perspective, wouldn't you rather have
someone at least healthy, even though they may not be
as good of a defender as Clay Since we know
how good he is defensively, wouldn't you rather a healthy
defender be out on the floor as opposed to an
injured Clay Thompson. Yeah, yes, and no, right, Like, yes,
(01:23:37):
I don't. But but so you're talking about like Alfonso McKinney, Yeah,
I guess. It just doesn't sound like having an injured
Clay Thompson and Steph Curry matching up against Kawhi Leonard
to Pascal Siakam whoever they want to do defensive switching wise,
it sounds like it could make for a pretty bad
matchup for the Warrior's sake. Yeah, I agree, And that's
(01:24:02):
that's my thing. It's like, we we operate under this assumption.
People did this with DeMarcus Cousins right even before DeMarcus
Cousins um got hurt the second time, they were like, oh,
they got another All Star, Like, no, you didn't. You
got DeMarcus Cousins, who doesn't fit with how the Warriors
play coming off an achilles tendon injury, and he's not
gonna be ready until March, and that means, you know,
(01:24:23):
he's gonna be playing his way into shape in April
and might be ready in in in May. To help
a little bit and we all just think that everybody
remains the same like our last when we watched, when
I watched to Clay Thompson highlight tape, that's what Clay
Thompson's gonna look like when he comes back, you know,
five days after injuring his hamstring. And that's not reality.
(01:24:45):
Like he's not dropping forty in a quarter. It's not happening.
People talk about Willis Reid like Willis Reid scored one
bucket in that game when he came back one And
that was back in the nineties seventies when no one
left the paint. Now, if you can't guard, they're gonna
force you to guard because everyone knows what the what
(01:25:06):
switch has happened, and they're gonna, they're gonna, they're gonna
isolate you. So I I understand that we all have
respect for the Warriors, and y'all we have respect for
Clay Thompson. And the thought is that they play better
without Kevin Durant. I didn't say that's what happens. I
(01:25:27):
said there are people that think that or or that
they're still very very viable without him. They are, but
without Looney and a banged up Clay and frankly, I
banged up Andrea Goodala against a good Raptors team. I
don't care if they're playing in tim Bunk two. I
like I would if I was going to make a
favorite tonight, I would probably make it the Toronto Raptors.
(01:25:50):
If so from the Warriors. Since Clay's playing tonight, wouldn't
make any sense to bring him off the bench, since
if he's not a wouldn't you rather him try and
go up against some of the backups? Are the Raptors
as opposed to Yeah, I mean just all depends on
how well, Like you know, he's so used to starting,
and maybe he's used to being warmed up. On the
other hand, if you know how it works in the NBA, right,
(01:26:11):
you warm up and then there's you work out, and
then you warm up and then you know, they have
a video presentation and a long national anthem, and so
I'm not sure it actually matters. Maybe he can go
back and get get loose, But yes, I would. I
have no problem with that going against the problem sometimes
and going against backups is they have even more juice
in their legs, and while they might not be as
(01:26:33):
good as players, they might come at you a little
bit harder. I don't know. My My big fear is
he'll he'll be fine and feel fine and be running
up and down the court and then just one kind
of twist and turn and then all of a sudden
that the hamstring will go again, and then he'll be
done for the series. That's the hard part about it.
(01:26:54):
Kill Augustine enjoins us. Up coming next, Um, we're gonna
get his sense of the raptors like they have to
mel blood in the water. How important is tonight's game?
Considering the prospects of Kevin Durant returning seemed to loom.
We'll ask him, he joins us next. Be sure to

Got Leap Show on Fox Sports Radio. Does it does
(01:27:44):
it feel like two games away? Like two games away
from the Raptors being championship. Does it feel that close?
It feels weird. I'm sorry, I guess you know, as Torontonians,
we're a little jaded. I mean, we've been Maple Leaves
fair as forever. We haven't won the chips in sixty seven.
I don't think you have the last chip stands for
as much as the Raptors or Leaves chip with So
(01:28:06):
I don't know, man, everyone feels really weird. We're on
pins and needles. It's it's almost unreal or surreal. I
don't know, man, I'm confused right now. Um. What was
the reaction to the push gate right like that? It was?
It was it was weird because Canadians generally generally have
(01:28:26):
the reputation of of being incredibly gracious. On the other hand, like, look,
Drake was talking trash, like there's there's something some things
yelled at at players, uh in the in the front
rows of you know, of Raptors home games. What was
the reaction to what took place the other night? Well,
in game, for me, I was like, please coll just
(01:28:47):
stay focused, please please stay focused. Don't worry about it.
But I mean people on the streets are talking about it.
I don't think it's the biggest story. I think if
we had lost, it would have been a bigger story
on the streets of Toronto. But people are happy to
see because I think sometimes there's a little inferiority top plex.
We feel like the rest don't give us a fair shake.
You know, we had Tony Brothers earlier in the series
(01:29:08):
completely deny the Raptors their home court advantage. UM, so
a little jaded, a little hurt, But I think the
swiftness of the reaction on behalf of the league and
the Warriors kind of put everyone at ease, and so, um,
I think we're over it a little bit. Still gotlive
show here on Fox Sport Trading. That's the voice of
(01:29:28):
a Kio. Augustine is a reporter friend BA TV, the
official host of Jurassic Park. Uh, what is Jurassic Park
really like? Like, Um, visually, I can tell you in
the States and we watch it visually, it's pretty amazing, right,
just amazing, like the really kind of remarkable. Um, But
it also feels like, man, there's got to be a
(01:29:50):
contact high there's no question there, and there's also and
also knowing what I know like it does. It feels
super super kind of multicultural. It feels different than even
Tornado Alley they have for Thunder games, you know when
they were in the playoffs, Like what is it the
actual feel like, Well, the first thing you understand is
(01:30:11):
Toronto doesn't have a dominant culture. We got Slankin's, Filipinos, Serbians,
like every corner of the earth is represented. So it's
it's it's the motley ist of cruise Um. And it's
a really young crowd, right because I think you know
a lot of the older people they want to sit
at home and you don't have a beer and watch
the game. So it's a really young energy, a lot
(01:30:32):
of familiar faces. So a lot of these people have
become friends from going to Jurassic Park. The other thing
you have the factor in there's the Jurassic Park, which
fits about I'll give us a couple of thousands, maybe
five thousand, But then there's supplementary cages that go down
bren they're all the way. There's the sky Door Maragers Center,
so there's like several smaller ones on the same street.
(01:30:54):
And then we're not actually thirty Jurassic parks across the country.
Now gotten in Vancouverer in Montreal, no way where to
God on my life. If you go online and google
Jurassic Parks, there are twenty nine total Jurassic parks throughout
the Great Nation of Canada. That's incredible. That is incredible. Um.
(01:31:19):
There was news early this week that Kawhi Leonard had
purchased property. I think he kind of downplayed it, said like,
you know, it was like it was old news, what
is the But now we're left with Chris Haynes joined
u from Yeah Who Sports Charlier and he said like, hey,
what about this is a kind of a discussion. You know,
instead of feeling like he'd stay if they won, couldn't
(01:31:41):
he leave if they won? Because it was like mission accomplished.
What's what's the feeling like as to whether or not
the outcome of these next you know, two to four
games determine what happens with Kauai. Well, I think there's
there's the sentiment that, yeah, Torontonians would be extremely grateful
to Kawhi letters for bringing it and PA has been
bringing the finals to Toronto, and there's there's a feeling
(01:32:03):
that yeah, people would be like okay, yeah, you know,
he did his job and left. But I don't feel
that way. I feel the fans it would be hurt
if you left, because I feel it there's good times
growing with him here. I'll say another thing about to
buying the house. Um, if you guys know anything about
the Toronto real estate market, it's ridiculous, right, It's the
hottest market out So if you can get in, if
you're a guy like whilet who's got the expendable capital,
(01:32:25):
knowing that this bubbles not first anytime soon. This is
New New York. This is New York in the fifties, right,
So you can get in on this market, You're going
to make a pretty pen in the future. So there's
also that play. Yeah, No, I was trying to I
was on with Colin Calherd, and I had I had
read that like year to date it's up six and
uh and and and climbing, whereas everybody else's kind of
(01:32:46):
seems to even in the States, to start to be settling.
And uh, I'm not sure. I'm not sure everybody is
grasping exactly how smart an investment it is. On the
other hand, you know, and and it takes money to
make money. Kill Augustine Joining US reporter for NBA TV,
official host of Jurassic Park, U of Jurassic Park, of
of the real Jurassic Park. Right like you guys are
(01:33:06):
the original, you know, one of these offshoot copycat of
the franchisees. Uh the the o g um? How important
would it be? What? Like? Would it be more rewarding
to win it at home? And look, you gotta win
a night to do it in five and obviously game
seven that would be unbelievable. Does it make any difference
(01:33:28):
at all? It? Where this thing is one? If it's
won by the by the raptors. I'm gonna have an
interesting theory here. Did you see Game six of the
Buck series? I did, all right? You saw how they reacted? Yes,
it was it was insane. I was fortunate enough to
be there. Um. I think here's my thinking. I think
(01:33:48):
if they're on the road, they win. It may sound
weird like I wanted to win at home because that's
the setup we have a game five, But I feel
like logistically, everyone's gonna try to get to certain places
to be around people, to get to you know what
I'm saying, Whereas if they're not here, they get do
their thing celebrate like their calves did go to Vegas.
Why the plane going to win and the people in
(01:34:09):
the city just get to go nuts in the streets.
I'll take it if they wouldn't Game five at home,
but I feel like logistically wise, se many on the road,
plus getting that whole arrival plane moment, that would be
pretty cool. That would be pretty cool. The ratings in
the States are down, but one of the things the
ratings in the States can't calculate doesn't calculate, is the
home market of of the Raptors. Obviously, Stanley Cup still
(01:34:33):
being played, but it's not by any Canadian teams. What
are the numbers like in Canada ratings wise, we just
had the highest rated professional basketball game in the history
of the country. The numbers go one third of Canada
watched Game one of the NBA Finals. A third. That's
(01:34:54):
and listen, this comes from a guy grew up in
Toronto doing that. When I watched our sports center, I
gotta wait thirty minutes till after they played the Winnis
like jet slits, just to see what the Raptors did.
So to see us come this far like we've lost
professional basketball teams Memphis of God. So the country embracing
the raptors. At this level, the dream comes through pretty awesome.
(01:35:15):
Mickell Augustine reporter, friend BATV Canada Fisher, hosts of Drastic
Park and a native of the g t Oh, thanks
so much for joining skill. All right, it's a Doug
Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. One third of
the country music. Do you know how many take a
take a wild guess, wild guess how many people live
(01:35:37):
in Canada. I'm gonna go with a hundred and fifty
five million. No, no, no, less less substantial, substantially. I
don't even have a clue. I just went for about
a third of thirty seven thirty seven point three million people.
Very simply. Canada is one of those places that it
(01:35:59):
is gigantic and then you're like, there's actually not that
many people to Vancouver have been is amazing. Toronto, I've
never been. I've heard. I've heard Montreal, which is in
Quebec uh is also you know, it's French, but cobble
stone streets and really really cool. But there's just not
It's a is a very much a different place, very
(01:36:23):
very much a different place. But that's cool. I mean,
for perspective, it's only ten million in change or something, right,
but one third of a country watching it when it's
not your not your native sport at all, watching an
NBA finals, You think that would pump up the ratings
if you looked at it fairly. Fox Sports Radio has

Doug Peterson said this about Carson Wentz via the team
web website. It feels great. In this league, a lot
(01:37:06):
of things revolve around your quarterback, and for us, we've
been blessed to have. Obviously, we moved up in the
draft on board the draft board to get Carson a
number two spot a couple of years ago, and now
to extend him gives us the stability on offense, gives
our organization stability. I'm excited about that and obviously the
chance to continue to work with him. That's Doug Peterson.
(01:37:26):
And you know, I don't know anybody who sits there
and looks at the numbers and says it's not the
highest paid contract ever. They got ahead of it a
little bit early, so maybe they paid him a little
bit less. But the things that what general managers want,
I mean, first you gotta have a guy that can play,
and then they want cost certainty, even if it's gonna
cost you more than I wanted you wanted to cost you.
(01:37:48):
I gotta know how much it's gonna cost, because I
can't have a moving target with what my with what
my top salary is gonna be. Like I'm not I'm
a I don't know if I squeeze it to the
last penny guy, but I'm I don't necessarily give up
on negotiations. My wife is somebody who she just gets
worn down by it, and she's just like, you know,
(01:38:11):
you get a couple of different estimates, and you know,
you generally take the guy or girl or whatever the
company you like the best, and you try and apply
the lowest estimate to it and get somewhere close. But
sometimes there's a there's a lot that are close, and
then you just you know, you're starting negotiating back and forth.
I can't tell how many how much wives like just
(01:38:32):
sell the house, just sell the car. I have a
seventy v dub bus and it's cool and it's it's
all the electric electrical stuff has been redone. The engine
have a new newer, same vdub engine, but a little
bit more high powered engine than the traditional engine that
(01:38:55):
comes came with it. So, um, I know how much
I have in it. I know how much. And she's like,
I want you to sell it because you know you
can't fix it anyway, not that anybody can fix these things,
but I can't redo it and finish it myself, so
I know. And so she's just like, just whatever is
close to her. I'm like, no, no, this is how
(01:39:17):
much I want. We had a guy the other day
came over and he's like, what do you want for
your bust? And I told him, and my wife's like, well,
just anywhere, because she gets worn down really by it.
She gets she can get worn down by the negotiation,
and in getting worn down by the negotiations, sometimes you
(01:39:37):
end up bailing out quickly. NFL teams don't want to
bail out of them, they don't want to get worn
down by them, but they do understand that in many ways,
even if you're let's not argue over two hundred five
hundred thousand dollars. Let's figure out a way to get
him under contract as long as possible so that we
know he's our quarterback, he feels stable, and we know
(01:40:00):
what the what the you know what else we're gonna
have to spend depending on UH salary cap. So Brussell
Wilson's making thirty five million, Big Ben Roethlisberger thirty four million,
Aaron Rodgers thirty three point five, and then Carson Wentz
Matt Ryan at thirty. But remember Matt Ryan's deal was signed.
(01:40:21):
I'm gonna say three years ago almost, and that's about right.
Carson Wentz was an m VP, was the MVP two
years ago, and then he got hurt. Aaron Rodgers I
think is the best, has the best arm. Tom Brady
obviously he's the guy that at this point in his
career he can take less because he's been making so
much money for so long. But to anyone who sits
(01:40:45):
there and says, man, I think Dak Dak Prescott is
going to get paid. But if you're the Cowboys now
you kind of see the ceiling there, Like if if
he's not an m VP candidate, which he has not
been close to this point, he's not in the thirty
million dollar variety. And if Carson Wentz can take less,
well that Prescott can take less than whatever top dot
(01:41:07):
dollar is. I feel like the Cowboys kind of one
in this thing. Maybe they didn't. Maybe it's you know, hey,
it's president. We gotta make more than then Carson Wentz.
And he does not have the fifth year option. But
if I'm the Cowboys, you got the franchise tag. You
can lay down if he doesn't want to resign, but
(01:41:28):
you can kind of dig in there in the twenties.
I still think load of mid twenties, you're still good
considering where he is now and where he wants to be.
But the Carson Wentz thing, it's really interesting. I don't
think the Eagles ever varied every ever wavered at all
on their belief that he was the guy. Yes, Nick
(01:41:50):
Foles had a good little run, and Nick Foles was
is a great fill in quarterback, but he does not
have the potential of a Carson Wentz. And Carson Wentz
is still very very early in the growth curve. And
you know, Eagles got there, dude, right, And you feel like,
(01:42:17):
if you're the Redskins, now boy, you you drafted one,
you trade, you traded for one. You're kind of a mess.
Cowboys have their guy, but nobody thinks he's great. Giants
have their guy of the future, but a lot of
people are not convinced that he's a franchise quarterback. You're
the Eagles, You're like, man, let's just hold on him
for dear life and hope he stays healthy. Yes, Ryan Music,
(01:42:40):
So do you take Carson Wentz? So before he got hurt,
it seemed like he was clearly the better quarterback than
Jared Goff. Now Jared Goff's improved, there's been some injury
concerns with Carson Wentz and that gap is starting to close.
But would you still put him up there as one
of the top quarterbacks in the league. Because when he
(01:43:03):
was an m VP candidate, obviously was like, man, Carson Wentz,
He's this young, Look where he's headed, Look where he
could be going. But when you have guys like I
think you'd put Russell Wilson ahead of him. You'd put
a guy like Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, Pat Mahomes, you know,
Tom Brady still. But then after that, I mean, he's
(01:43:24):
still up there as one of the top quarterbacks. I
just find myself wondering why people were trying to take
Nick Foles over Carson Wentz. I don't know. I don't
because like you start listing the quarterbacks and you're like, yeah,
he's definitely up there, like just outside of a top
five and been the starting quarterback of the like the Eagles.
(01:43:45):
Know what, You're not fooling the Eagles. You're not fooling
coaches like you're not you know, Like again, even even
in Jacksonville, how much you go, well, he's starting quarterback
jackson He's making seventeen million dollars because he's that. That's
about where he fit in this world. Like at any
point other than I guess when he had that seven touchdown,
(01:44:05):
he had the crazy he had the crazy, amazing year,
and then he and then he had an average year
and then a miserable year and then But at any
point did any has anyone ever thought Nick Foles like, oh, yeah,
he's like the sixth best quarterback in the league. No, no,
and and and I remember last year I told I
(01:44:25):
did on Cowhard I put him down as the the
worst starting quarterback in the league to start the year,
and people went crazy and my they didn't actually listen
to how I got to that place. How I got
to that place. Was the perception from somebody that doesn't
pay attention is here's the guy who lit lit it
up in the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl.
(01:44:45):
He's got to be awesome, and he's much much closer
to being an average too below average starter than he
is to be an awesome But then, you know, you
you have to factor in the expectations that Nick fle
is that guy in the super Bowl, and he's not.
People see him, people get a book, He gets round
a little bit, he gets uncomfortable. He's just not. He's
(01:45:08):
just not that guy. And and water found its level
some last year. It doesn't mean he's awful hey, and
doesn't take away from the type of person and story
that he is. But the perception because of how well
he played in those two games did not meet the
reality of who he actually is. Is Andrea Goodalad taking
(01:45:31):
shots at his own fans find out why next. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Doug dot Leap
Show weekdays at noon eastern three pm Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Doug Golam
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Oh my goodness, this
(01:45:54):
is this is an unbelievable baseball game, like a college
by small and I know you guys don't watch it
that much. U. C. L A, by the way, is
the number one seed. Um. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech
are are taking on each other, and they've been all
kinds of plays and and the the talent is good
enough where like it's good baseball, but it's it's just
(01:46:16):
not good enough to where there's still a couple of
drop balls in the outfield, still a couple of misplay balls.
Oklahoma State was down six to five in the top
of the seventh inning. Bases loaded oh to count and
took him to the warning track. Texas Tech next batter
up hits the solo home runs now seven five Texas Tech.
They played best of three. The winner of the series
(01:46:36):
moves on to the College World Series, which is in Omaha, Nebraska,
which is just a great event. Great event. Tonight we
got the NBA Finals Game four. The Warriors are a
four and a half point favorite. I'll give you my
pick a little bit later on in in the show,
I mean, before we conclude. But every day this time,
we get you update on as many stories as possible,
(01:46:57):
getting you an update on the stories to day for
the games of the night. We call it the press,
the press. Here's Ralph Irvan with the press. What he
got well, thanks Doug. And we start with andre Iguadala,
who's not too happy about the evolution of the Golden
State Warriors fans. He was asked about his favorite moment
in the Oracle Arena and said, it's pretty tough there.
(01:47:20):
That's a really good question. First playoff series here was
pretty exciting. It was pretty good. We hadn't priced out
many people yet, so it was good. Steve Curry, Yeah,
this is a weird thing the NBA players are taking out.
They're taking a weird spot here right right, this is
the like I can't believe all these rich people are
(01:47:41):
here paying Like it's just I like playing for the people.
Um before I hate to be this guy, Iggy, but
um you're rich right there. They're playing for a paycheck
and that comes from the from the people paying big
ticket prices. Well, I mean somebody you know, just there's
(01:48:02):
only rich people coming today, can't so that the average
guy can't afford to been like, hey, dude, you make
seventeen and a half million dollars. Seventeen and a half
million dollars, let's let's be you know, you're the his
you know, do you know what you know? Andre Dolla
(01:48:22):
loves to do as much or more than play basketball. Yes, again,
these are he he is an expert in rich people problems.
So uh, by the way for Polinka guy, just so
you're just so we're aware, his career earnings are a
hundred and forty nine point four million dollars, and he's like, man,
(01:48:45):
I just I used to like to I like to
play in front of poor people because I'm one of
the people. Like, no, you're not, dude, so I hate
to be that guy. You're making sixteen cash plus eight
buzz bonuses seventeen a half million dollars, Andrea Dolla hasn't
made less than ten million dollar hours in your salary
in eleven years. And look he's worth it. He's a
tremendous player. But let's not act like. Let's not act
(01:49:07):
like you walked to Oracle the Oracle Arena barefoot uphill
both ways and two vous snow struggling the dak Prescott
of course, entering the final year of his rookie deal,
and we saw the contract with Carson Wentz. Well, the
NFL Networks Mike Garret Folo said Friday that the two
sides are really far apart in negotiations and the process
(01:49:29):
could drag past the start of training camp. It Everything
that he had been told by sources briefed on the
talks is that both sides are really far apart and
they're just gonna put a pin in it for a
while and revisit it later. Who is this? This is
for Dak Prescott in his contract? That yeah, because he's
like Carston Wentz thirty million dollars, thirty million dollars, I
(01:49:51):
should be thirty two is like no, no, no no, no
no no. Nick Foles seventeen million dollars meet in the middle.
That's what I did too. And and whether the Cowboys
have leverage they do having a contract, and he doesn't
like that they can franchise tag him for two years.
So Tyreek Hill, the big story is that no, there
is no police investigation going on in terms of criminal charges,
(01:50:13):
but that doesn't mean his status will change necessarily before
next week's mini camp. But there's every reason to believe
that he'll be back with the Chiefs for training camp
that according to the NFL Networks Tom Pellicero, Yeah, this
is this is gonna be a hard one. You know,
what do you do when you have audio that makes
people uncomfortable but it doesn't actually admit guilt in it?
(01:50:36):
Um and then you you know, how much can you
factor in what happened when he was in college the
same woman and you know he is was on probation
for her, is on probation for it. Like, that's a really,
really hard one. My guess is that he gets suspended
for the first half of the season. Yeah, that would
be probably the expectation. We go to l A where
(01:50:57):
Maurice Jones Drew, who is the radio analyst for the Rams,
said that Todd Gurley was hurt the entire season. That
he hurt his knee in the first game of the
year and then played through it the rest of the season.
Sounds like m j d is a former running back.
I have no reason to believe that he's a liar,
but I you know, mm hmm, like the fishes keep skin,
(01:51:22):
but no, no, he's hurt the whole year, and the
man it was like he wasn't even hurt. I think
that I like what most of us think it is true.
Here's a guy that he tore up his knee in college.
Remember he only sat four games as a rookie. Might
have come back a little bit truly where and tear
and probably took probably took a good pounding um through
(01:51:44):
and and maybe he wasn't right all season, but maybe
he was hurt all season, but he wasn't injured. And
I think that the question becomes, can Todd Gurley ever
be completely right for an entire season? And most you're
betting the answer is no. He got a got a
twenty four year old body in a thirty four year
(01:52:05):
old knee. Another aspect to that is the fact that
he wasn't listed on the NFL's injury report, which is
supposed to be the gold standard, until Week sixteen. Yeah.
Um yeah, I just I mean, the injury report thing
is really really weird. You know, I got into a deal.
I was doing the sideline last year for the Dolphins
(01:52:27):
and they asked me when when Ryan Tannehill got hurt.
You know, we we saw him leave the field and
they kind of told us, but they didn't update the
injury report until they had to um, but I didn't
know he wasn't gonna play or whatever. They were just saying,
we're gonna see on Sunday. But if you you know,
if you there's details, you're not allowed to get out.
(01:52:47):
And the only thing I ever said was like, hey,
he actually left practice, but I didn't say that until Sunday.
I was asked to not say it until Sunday, but
they said the game and I didn't. Anyway, they get
really hot and bothered about the injury report. All I
can tell you is Todd Gurley seemed fine until all
of a sudden he fell off the face of the earth.
And if you want to tell me he was hurt
(01:53:07):
the first week of the season, well hurt late in
the season. The ramsures hec didn't seem to believe he was.
So Duke Johnson wants to be traded from the Cleveland Browns,
and Baker Mayfield was asked if he wanted to you know,
he's given the chance to support him, and well, Mayfield
didn't exactly do that. Well, Duke's agent is Kristen Campbell,
who's married to uncle Luke Luther Campbell, who then came
(01:53:30):
out and said f Baker Mayfield for saying that dumb
s about Duke Johnson and then went on Twitter rants
about him, reminding him that every quarterback gets traded, even
the great ones. All right, yeah, I mean, like look
the the the Duke Johnson thing. I don't I don't
actually follow Duke Johnson. They got way too many dudes
back there not enough carries. He wants out. And I
(01:53:54):
also think that he's right, Like Baker has to have
the perspective of right now he's the guy. He might
not alway, he's be the guy and he should be
a little bit. This is this is the problem that
happens when you want to be, you know, the spokesperson
for everything that happens within the Browns. Like you don't
have to interject on everything, you don't. But Baker has
chosen to do so he's chosen to do something right now.
(01:54:18):
The Brown's locker room generally is of the opinion that
if you're not a part of this team, then you're out.
And so I think Baker is just saying the company line. Yeah,
well no, I don't know if that's coming. Like he's
setting the company line. And I look, this is Baker
is one of those guys that everything he says tries
to bring everybody in the locker room closer, and I think, yeah,
that that works. But the second that you say something like, look,
(01:54:41):
Duke Johnson has friends in that locker room, I'm sure
there are guys that think men Duke Johnson is getting screwed.
Not everybody, probably most people, like you know, but generally
most NFL guys support other NFL guys even if they
don't actually, but like Tom Brady when his guys when
Malcolm Butler left, he said something nice about him or
like something on Instagram. So I just think you end
(01:55:03):
up walking yourself at times into a trap. Get out
there and pressed. That was the press. I think the
Raptors win, and I think they go up three games
to one. I definitely like him at four and a
half points. Ryan Music, who do you like? I like
the Raptors as well, and Ramos has ten seconds Raptors. Now,
I feel like I like the Warriors because you you know,
the heads like the be Back Monday and the Doug
