(00:44):
we will be broadcasting live from Pebwell Beach, site of
the US Open, which is on Fox Sports One and
Fox Sports. This is a huge couple of weeks for
our parent company on the TV side, Fox Sports and
Fox Sports One with the Women's World Cup, which we'll
get to we actually I actually covered it in real time,
and what's fascinating about it is in covering it in
(01:07):
real time. UM, I was a little bit critical of
some of the things that were going on with the
ladies and now everybody else's kind of parachute parachuted into
this discussion. We'll get to that a little bit later on.
Look at the Women's World Cup, he got the US Open,
and the thoughts that Tiger Woods can turn to the
form of maybe of nineteen years ago when he lapped
(01:29):
the field several times over that upcoming uh, there's an
article on Rich Paul in Sports illustrat Now, in fairness,
Sports Illustrate is still big, although it's been recently sold.
In reality, Sports Illustrated isn't what it used to be.
And there is the hypocrisy, hypocritical front page or cover
(01:53):
story which calls Rich Paul the kingmaker, which is ironic
because though Rich Paul has become a very powerful agent
in the NBA, one, agents don't make their players and
the kings, and two it's the king that made Rich
Paul the agent, not Rich Paul making Lebron James the king.
(02:17):
Regardless of which the meat of the story, Let's cut
through the gristle, let's cut out the fat. Let's get
to the meat of the story. Rich Paul on Anthony Davis.
They can trade for him, but it will be for
one year. I mean, if the Celtics traded for Anthony Davis.
We would go there, we will be able by we
we abide by our contractual obligations, and we would go
(02:37):
into free agency in two thousand twenty. I've stated that
to them. But in the event that he decided to
walk away and you give away assets, don't blame Rich Paul.
By the way, there's no more condescending, egotistical, feeling yourself
thing you can ever do. Then talk about yourself in
third person. You want people to stop listening to you,
(03:01):
go third person and do so in a non sarcastic way.
Doesn't mean what he's saying is wrong. And his point is, hey,
Anthony Davis has said this, don't blame me. I'm you know.
The proper way to say it is, hey, I wrapped
Anthony Davis. I abide by his wishes. I'm his agent,
(03:22):
and if he chooses to walk these are this is
what what my client would would like to do. But
but here's the problem with with guys that are feeling themselves,
especially agents. They create an apt and a foster an
atmosphere where they try and make you feel like you
work either with or for them, when the reality is
(03:45):
Anthony Davis hires and pays Rich Paul hires and pays
Rich Paul. Rich Paul works for Anthony Davis works for
his clients. It's not the other way around. And then
there's this from ajroent war Zanowski said this last night
on sports and I was watching, the Lakers are not
a front runner even a major, even major consideration among
any of the elite free agents. If they don't get
(04:05):
Anthony Davis, they're gonna have a hard time putting a
team on the floor next year. And Lebron James is
going that Lebron James is gonna be very happy about
what we said about the a D disaster during the season.
What I said was Rich Paul Lebron are freaking out
because they won't be able to compete for a title
without a D since they can't attract free agents. The
(04:27):
the the irony to the story, the amazing part about
the story, and it is a rags to riches. It
is a guy who was selling jerseys out of the
back of his car to being a powerfoy agent representing
Lebron James and Anthony Davis as amazing. You don't love
our country after that? You just can't. There's nothing illegal
he's done along the way. But the idea is, the
(04:52):
thought of the piece is, here's this amazing story, an
amazing agent who figures out a way to make his
players kings win, his best player, his best asset and
advocate and the reason that he got started in the
business to begin with. I can't actually get anybody to
come play with him? Does anybody else see the the
(05:14):
irony to that? And just like when you shop hungry,
what happens when you shop hungry? You come home You're like,
I don't even know why I bought all that stuff.
I guess I must have been starved. Like, yeah, you
you went and you got like organic cherries that are
ten dollars a pound. You're like, whoa I did? I
(05:35):
just saw him and I was so hungry. Yeah, you
got steak, you got salmon, and you've got chicken, and
it's all fresh and you can only cook one meat
tonight and it's only you at home, Like you're gonna
want to freeze that stuff? What was the point of
going to Whole Foods? You know the problem is you
shopped hungry. When you shop hungry, you over purchase. When
you over purchase, you end up having to freeze something
(05:58):
or something goes to waste. Right, the same thing happens
when you try and make a deal out of desperation. Said,
you're gonna make a bad deal. You know, think about
any deal. You're gonna get the best deals you'll ever
get in from from us, you know, from the stores
(06:19):
when they're going out of business. They just have to
get as much money as they can before they close
the door. Last day. You can get whatever. I'll never again.
You guys, remember Sports Authority. I think two and a
half years ago, three years ago, Sports Authority went under.
I went in there and my son's left handed, and
I bought him a first Baseman's mint that it's still
(06:41):
a little big for him, but it you know, he
uses it and it fits now. But I mean, I man,
remember like three years ago, I was like, oh, it
was the first Basim has been. It was like a
hundred and twenty bucks, and I think I got it
for fifteen Why because they were desperate is clean off
their shelves. They actually even sold the show. I remember
that they were selling the shelves. I was wow. Every
whey they say everything must go, everything must go, and
(07:05):
why they do that. Desperation brings deals. One side becomes
super motivated when you go and look for real state.
When you see motivated seller, either they're moving or they
get a divorce, they need the money, they're in over
their head, whatever, that's when you're gonna get a deal.
And right now the Lakers are shopping hungry. They've had
all this bad ps, all about all this bad press,
(07:28):
all this bad pr Lebron and Rich Paul and the
front office can't get anybody of note to sign with
them or consider them as a top level destination. And
so the only way they can get somebody at Lebron's
level is to is to trade for him. And because
New Orleans has that trade leverage, that New Orleans can
(07:53):
hold out and bleed the Lakers to death. And in
all honesty, like this wasn't going great for um for
the New Orleans Pelicans before this just wasn't. You know,
you got Anthony Davis telling them New York or l A,
(08:14):
knowing that l A has better assets. You know, you
got R. J. Barrett saying he wants only wants to
play for the Knicks. He'd be part of the trade package.
Like everything is setting up for a trade to happen,
because the Lakers do have the best offer, but they
don't want to overpay for him. And now Rich Paul
again can't keep just just be there when the trade
(08:36):
is made and signed the papers and shake the hands
and whatever. But when you're feeling yourself, you inject yourself
into every story about yourself. You go third person yourself,
and you might end up screwing up the deal which
is close to being consummated anyway. Rich Paul Lebron are
(08:57):
freaking out. They know that Kauai doesn't want any of
that KD Now it's not even an option. Kyrie appears
to have moved on from his infatuation or any sort
of desire playing with Lebron. James, who are you gonna
go get? Philadelphia is gonna overpay? Maybe you go get Kemba.
(09:18):
I don't know, but Kemba. You have a chance to
make a ton of money, more money playing in Charlotte,
having your own franchise. So if you're really a super agent,
find a way, find a way to get that sucker done,
(09:39):
because right now there's nothing so super about what you're
doing other than potentially screwing it up. Because you're feeling yourself.
Tom Tilber played for the Warriors, now a an incredible
radio host in the Bay Area. What does he think
about what happened with Kevin Durant? Plus does he think

played for the Warriors. Of course, Now you hum on

o'clock Pacific time at six o'clock Eastern time after our show.
You can listen to that wherever. I'm sure there's different
ways if you're outside of San Francisco. He's Tom Tilbert.
(11:28):
He joins us on Fox Sports Radio. Uh, Talment, let
me let me just start with your perspective on k
D before Game five? Before Game five, what did you
think about the idea that Kevin Durant was gonna come
back and play well. First off, let me ask, uh,
I gotta know, because I don't even know this myself. Doug,
(11:49):
what champio? I? I don't. I didn't play in a
championship team, unfortunately, unless you follow me around when I
was in fourth grade, you didn't play in the eight
championship teams. I did not know championships. I don't want
to take credit. Was a no championship teams? Zero buster was?
I mean, we're both white and went to Arizona. Yeah,
both transfers to right. Both both judds a transfer too,
(12:12):
isn't he? No? Jedd was straight there. I was duco
you are you? Are you? You went to u C.
I you went to u C. People forget like you
went to u C. I first I was there. Todd
Murphy and Johnny Rogers and Wayne Angelstad and Scotty Brooks
and Joe Thornton. Dude, those are all pros. Those are
(12:33):
all probably we had a bunch of pros on that team. Yeah,
what's what's amazing about that? And this is way too
inside the beltway? Orange County PC PC double a knowledge,
But tell me if I'm wrong. I was just talking
to my man. Dylan rigged and he was like dude
Toilbert had transferred to Arizona where he played, and he
couldn't get couldn't start at u C. I because you see,
(12:55):
I had so many dudes. I couldn't start at u C.
I couldn't do it. And and Mulligan and I didn't
get along all the O L. So so yeah, I
you know what, I don't know. I It's so hard
for me to get into that because I'm not privy
to the conversations that Durant had Steve, that they had
(13:18):
with Bob Meyers, that they all had with the medical staff,
that they all had with the training staff. I don't
I don't know, and I don't know how people can
make the clearative statements on whether he should have or
shouldn't have played, or who was it fault unless you
were in that room. I mean, I think it's very
plausible to think the m r s came back good.
The training staff gave him a thumbs up. He went
(13:40):
through three on three, he went through five on five,
he went through the protocols, he was cleared to play,
and then the body just wasn't quite ready. Even though
no one would could have could have known that it
wasn't gonna be ready, or maybe the cast muscle was ready,
but the achilles was trying to compensate for the I
(14:01):
don't know all that. I just I I find it
rather amusing that everyone can come out with such strong
statements on something where they are not privy to the
conversations that were being had with these people, because that's
the one thing that I always try to stay away
from his injury time, because I don't know what the
(14:21):
injuries are. I don't know what the medical staff sees.
I don't know, to be quite frank, a guy's paint tolerance.
You know, some people would go like I sabbed, like
you have a little pain tolerance. You have a little
pain tolerance. Isn't that you can do about it? You
just have a little paint dolorance. Some people have a
high threshold of pain and their warriors, Oh maybe they're not.
Maybe they just have a high threshold of pain and
(14:42):
they can withstand more than the average person. Uh, it's
just really tough for me to get into the whole. Oh,
as soon as it happens, someone's got to be blamed. Well,
what if no one's to be blamed? It just happened. Um.
I think it's because you having played in the NBA
and covered the NBA, it's such a high level. There's
this belief that the man is always wrong, right, That's
(15:06):
the thing. Whether we we hate not maybe may not
hate our congress person, but we hate Congress, we hate
the president, we hate the NFL commissioner. Um, we hate owners.
We can't even call them owners anymore. Like anybody who's
seen US coaches, they're all bullies and and and I
guess there is a presumption from people that the Warriors
(15:28):
rushed him back and pushed him into playing. You know
the reality of the NBA. Is that possible that the
Warriors pushed him in and pressured him into playing. I can't.
And not only what, I find it hard to believe
with a group of people they have in the organization.
(15:48):
I just find it hard to believe with the power
the players have now them and their agents that they
would let something like that uh happen. I don't think
you can be bullied into plan. I guess you could
be coherst in playing, like, hey, guys, these guys really
need you man and God to be down three one.
We'd really love to have you back. I mean, you
can start putting those messages I guess in someone's head.
(16:09):
But let's not uh take. I mean, if you want
to play, I won't use the word blame or use accountability.
I mean, Duran's accountable in this too. It's his body.
He can say no, I'm not ready, I'm not good
to go. But he he was doing jumping. Jack's doing
his dance as his duncan. He went to the protocols.
I mean, and let's also not forget these guys live
(16:30):
for this moment. I mean, you're down three one, your
team needs you. You feel like anybody's ever played in
a team, and you don't play. You feel like somebody
with an all access pass and you're just watching these
guys play, and you want to get out there and
do anything you can to help. And that's like role players.
When you're a star, you're like, damn, I can come back,
and I can. I mean I can, we can win
(16:50):
this damn thing, and I can help this team. I
can be that guy. And you want to get out
there and play. I mean, that's what a lift for.
That's what you play for. Me. These guys love basketball.
It's SERTs of business. They make lots of money, but
they love the game of basketball. This guy loves the
game of basketball. And if you love the game of basketball,
you would love nothing more than to play in the
(17:11):
NBA Finals. So I I I have to believe that
he he also wanted to get out there and play.
And I don't know how you're gonna save someone from himself. Uh,
when all the medicals come back and he goes through practices,
I don't know what to do with that at that point.
Like and for those people to say, well they should have,
well they said Clay from himself. Apparently we don't know.
(17:33):
But they held him out of Game three with a
hamstring injury. Then he came back game four, and again
I'm not questioning injuries, but it didn't look like he
had any problems in Game four, which made you wonder, guy,
I wonder how injured he was for Game three, But
he was injured enough for the medical steps say you
know what, we don't we're not we're not comfortable with this.
Even though Clay wanted to go. Clay was pushing to go.
(17:54):
Clay said I can do it, and they said no.
So I'm expected to believe Two games later, after saving
a guy for one game with a hamstring, they're gonna
push the guy out there that's been out over over
a month. I find it hard to believe Tom Tilbert
canb are joining us to Gotlich show Fox Sports Radio. Um, okay,
so let's just talk to the series. How likely are
(18:16):
the Warriors now? They get one last game in Oakland?
But they're just running out of bodies. And even though
KD was only there for twelve minutes or so, those
are twelve impactle minutes. He changes how you can match
up against me, gives them more offense, he gives them
more space. They did have to come back from that
twelve to two run. Like, how likely in your mind
are they to even force a game seven? Well, I
(18:39):
think it's gonna be tough another favor to win the game,
but man alive. I think here's what I think though,
That crowd is going to be buzzer. I mean, it
hasn't been like super super loud. I haven't been to
a game probably a year or so. But when I
was doing games and they won their first championship, it
(18:59):
was for loud. It didn't it wasn't that loud since
and it certainly wasn't as loud as it was when
they beat the Mavericks, uh like ten years ago, when
they're an eight seed Mavericks with the one seed. I
went to a number of those games and it was
just a sort I think that's what it's gonna be.
Like last game, Kadi goes down, they feel like the
(19:20):
words need him. Uh Toronto cheering Kad when he goes down.
I think there's gonna be all kinds of emotions and
I think it's gonna just be a mad house. So
I think that can carry him a long way. And
they still have the championship medal. I mean, they have
guys on this team that have won multiple championships, so
I don't discount I don't discount that. So if you're Toronto,
(19:43):
I think if you stay in this thing earlier, whether
the storm, I think you got a really good shot
at this because I think they've probably learned from Game three.
I mean it just their lack of experience I think
showed closing out of team in Golden States. Are willing
to stay alive in that type of situation showed. But
it's gonna be a kind of wave of emotion and
it's gonna be a tidal wave of noise, and look,
(20:05):
if the Warriors are hitting threes, the Ruth's gonna bowl
off that place and they could be up fifteen by
the end of the first quarder. We've all seen it happen.
So Toronto's key is just stay in this thing earlier
if they weathered the storm and they got a good
shot at this, but it's gonna be tough in that environment.
Tom Tilber joining us Doug gotlip show here on Fox
Sports Radio. Um, how do you think the injury affects
(20:27):
the chances that Kevin Durant comes back to the Warriors? Well,
that's a great you know what, that's a great question.
I don't know. Uh, how comfortable is he here? Uh?
Does he like the medical staff? Does he like the
training staff? Because that who is going to be spending
the next year with. How much do he loved the area?
I had? I have no idea because I I'm assuming.
(20:51):
I think on the show yesterday, my partner John Lunn said,
somebody pulled a bunch of NBA executives and a bunch
of them, if not all of them, all said they'd
give Kevin durmax deals and they wouldn't even put injury
protections in the in the contract, so who knows. I mean,
if teams are willing to do that, I mean that's
a that's that's a role that dice. I mean, I
can see the upside for It's like, if you're a
(21:13):
team like New York, you just say, screw it, let's
just give the money. I mean, they tried that with
the Mari Statomar. That didn't work out all that well.
I'm not comparing the player. Mary was hurt too, and
he just never quiet was the guy who was in Phoenix.
But if I'm New York and I give him all
that money, I say, you know what, let's give him
all that money. Probably won't be very good next year.
He'll sit out then while I have another good draft pick.
(21:36):
Then he'll come back the following year and maybe we
can get another free agent possibly. I don't know what
their salary cap situation is, but I mean that might
not be a bad way to look at it. Like, look,
we're not gonna be great next year. Let's go out
enough accumulates Masset, then he comes back next year they
can get a brand new player. Uh the second year around.
But as far as him staying going, jeez, I'm not
(21:57):
I'm not his head and I'm not just hard. I
don't know. It's hard always to read Kevin Durant what
he's what he's thinking, and worried that wants to go.
So I don't know. I don't even know if it's
any better or worse than it was it was before.
I guess if I had to guess, i'd say it
a little bit better, just because you know, he's not
on the play anyways, and he's lived here for three
years and I think he likes it here, so maybe
he wants to stay rehab and then you know that
(22:19):
tests the waters after that, after he shows everybody is healthy.
But then again you're getting Max Stilson everybody. Obviously they
don't care. Yeah, they don't. They don't seem to care
at all. Um. Last last thing. Um. Obviously now covering
all of Bay Area sports as you've done, but but
having played for the Warriors, it's just interesting, like and
(22:40):
how people look at Oracle now and how I'm sure
it was when you played like it was for a
long time. It was. It wasn't sports ring level dump,
but it was. It was one of the least glamorous
places to play in the NBA. Um as a former
player and broadcaster, how we remember the arena that's going
(23:02):
to close up after this game? Well, look, I played
in both the old Open cost sam in the l
A Sports Arena and Lagure is nothing nothing really quite
as dumpy as l A Sports Arena when you factor
in uh. Not only the facilities weren't great, but just
the crowds were awful. I mean, where the Clippers were terrible,
(23:23):
we were terrible. It just it was an awful atmosphere.
The Warriors facilities weren't great when I was there, but
the crowds were incredible. You couldn't get a ticket, uh
to a game. We were maybe a little above five hundred.
That was the run TMC with Chris, Timmy and Midge Era,
and they loved us. They love Manu, they loved the
workiness of the team. They showed up and they were
(23:44):
super loud. I think I remember my second year there.
First year they we had like a fifteen game home
winning streak and it was just so much fun to
play there. So I have a special funness for for
that place, and I'm so happy that the people that
it spent years ago in there, we're able to experience
a few championships where they jumped across the Bay too
(24:05):
to San Francisco. I mean, because let's be honest, I mean,
Oakland is always going to have an inferiority complex when
it comes to San Francisco and their sports teams. They
always feel like they get the better coverage. They're the
teams it gets followed. So it's it's tough for them,
and I feel for them, even though the same people
can still go to the games. It's only like as
the crow flies and eating nine miles away, but it's
(24:26):
still They had to say, it's it's like it's like
a different solar system, though I mean it is it is.
I mean, especially with the sports fan I mean, you know,
being down there. I mean it's the same thing as
the Angels and the Dodgers. No matter how good the
Angels are, it's always about the Dodgers and the Angel
fans have the inferiority complex about the Dodgers and the
(24:47):
coverage they received. Remember going to games when I was
a kid and the Dodger game would come up and
they and the score from job Zervane Dodgers for Philly's
five and then every eat cheer and like who cares
about your own team you're at the game, they like
get a bigger cheer for Dodgers losing than the Angels
score to run. And it's just like it blew me away.
(25:08):
That's just that's just the way it is. And that's
how the open sports fan feels about the San Francisco
sports fan. So it's like you're taking one of our teams.
You're taking our this has been our team and now
you're taking in. So I'm happy they got their championships.
They got three of them. Maybe they'll get four of them,
who knows, But but I'm happy, and I'm I'm I'm
(25:29):
a little bit sad because it's a way I played
here and it was it was in the East Bay,
and like I said, the East biggest hurt stress sometimes,
But I don't blame them. It's a world class facility,
world class city. Uh, it's gonna be great for the Warriors.
But I'm you know when when it closes out tomorrow night,
and uh, I'll probably have some fond memories of planning
(25:51):
there many many years ago and and calling a championship
season for the Warriors. And watching my great friend Steve
Kerr wins championships over there. So it's uh, yeah, I
mean that that new facilit is gonna be great. This
one's always special. And let's always remember too, when they
closed out facilities that weren't great, they always get better
and better as time passes on. Totally, totally, I mean
(26:16):
Chicago stating that place is great, Like, no, that was
a dump, that was it sucked. No, I did totally stuck.
If you want to say I missed candle stick, he
was kill What do you mean miss candlestick? You got
a T and T well, now, horrible part, but you
know what it is. It's a fondness of going there
when you're a kid with your grandpa sitting outside, and
those are the memories and the big games that resonate.
(26:36):
But everybody knows it. It's like this next facility, they're
always way, way, way better. And guess what, it probably
takes about two decades to accumulate those memories and then
people who feel nostalgic about that arena. But yeah, it's
like it's funny when dump's closed two or three years
on the line, I really missed that place. No, you
don't put down the beer. Tom Tolbert took him out
(26:59):
a knbr at three o'clock CIVIY time, six o'clock Eastern.
Of course. Uh uh, there's a guy who knows it
because he played it. He's covered it, and he continues
to to to give us insight. Hey man, thanks, and uh,
I will tell you you see I buddies, I now
see as old minute Starbucks. You said hello? All right,
Tom Tolber joining us on the Doug Gotlib Show here
(27:21):
on Fox Sports Radio. Thanks Dan, Doug Otlip show rolls
on here on Fox Sports Radio. So the Raiders are
the gonna be the focus of a hard Knocks. I'm
Tony Hbo hard not It couldn't. Last year was the Browns.
They knocked it out of the park, and this year
was the Raiders. Right, is there anything but could they have?
(27:43):
Is there possibly a better team? Like? No, you don't
just have the Antonio Brown uh and Derek Carr and
John Gruden. Yeah, Mike Mayock as well. And it's a
historically great franchise, one that people will watch, one that
people have made fun of recently because of the moves
of of Gruden, one that's in transition next year they'll
(28:06):
be in Vegas like this, couldn't They could not have
gotten a better team. They could got in a better
team in terms of wins and losses Patriots, But Patriots
aren't interesting Chargers. The Charges aren't interesting. Chiefs maybe, but
they've done the Chiefs and they're not as interesting as
the Raiders. Derek Carten what is really the last year
(28:27):
of his deal? Mike Mayock is first time general manager.
John Gruden always good on TV and he knows he's
on TV. Antonio Brown like vantes perfect, come on. So yeah,
they'll still have the uh sprinkler shot, you know, early
in the morning, right, They'll they'll have some undrafted guy
(28:55):
you'll fall in love with. They'll have some coach, some
old ball coach that scratches himself and his maybe his
belly moves when he says hut hut. Now I'll have
all difference. But the headliners are Gruden, Antonio Brown, Mike Mayock,
Derek Carr, he Raiders, the Raiders. I mean, even what's
(29:22):
his name Davis with that terrible haircut, Like how good
is that? And the Antonio brond. Antonio Brown clearly doesn't
like attention, right, He's never he didn't Facebook from the
locker room, Yes he did. He doesn't show up in
a Rolls Royce to training camp, Yes he does. There's
nothing about his hair or his personality that says look
(29:43):
at me. It absolutely does. Antonio Brown, Derek Carr, Antonio
Brown and John Gruden, Derreck Carr and John Gruden. Mike
Mayock presiding over all of it. Sign me up. Well,
my my wife said like, we gotta keep HBO because
they got big little lies. I think that's the name
of the show. And I was like, big little lies, dude,
(30:06):
Hard Knocks take all my money, take all of it, alright,
lots to get to here at Gottlieb Show is the
Twitter handle Coming up next? The tickets for Game six
tonight are going for big time money. Real news are
fake news? Find out next. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Doug got Leap Show weekdays at noon
(30:28):
Eastern three pm Pacific. Doug Gotleap Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. John Middlecoff will join us next hour. We'll
ask him about the Raiders being on Hard Knocks. Talk
some Katie the top of the our Frankui Solo will
join us in the third hour of the show. So
tool Josh Louenburg, the Raptors insider from ts N. In
(30:50):
the meantime, let's play game bag. This is game tied
Tide on the Doug gott Leap Show. Dan, buy what
he got, Doug. I've got this real news, fake and
I also have a quick update on the status of
Kevin Durant. Steve Kerr says they still don't know what
(31:11):
is wrong with Kevin Durant, so Warriors head coach at
least giving an update there. They don't know the status
of Durant. Achilles. Well they're not. He said, no updates.
So they they had pretty stated they expected it to
be an Achilles. But no, no, you're not. You're not.
You're not wrong. There was there's no official but they
were the ones who said they expected to be an Achilles.
(31:33):
And we haven't heard from since. Alright, real threws are
fake news. Some secondary market tickets for tomorrow's Game six
of the NBA Finals are going for more than sixty
thou dollars a piece is high. Seems high, but it
is San Francisco, Oakland. Everything is expensive. I'm gonna go
real news, and they're spectacular. Asked considering that the game
(31:55):
is going to be the last at Oracle, sixty dollars
for some seats on the baseline. San Francisco Chronicle reported
that the seats by Steph Curry's tunnel, the player tunnel
where he likes to take his shots, going for as
much as forty eight thousand dollars a piece. But a
hot ticket for Game six as the Warriors say goodbye
to Oracle, I just don't want to say goodbye to
(32:16):
their season. Uh, it is odd ticket, and it's a
market where you can kind of It's kind of like
when you have few money. Every once in a while
you gotta say f you, right. So absolutely real news
are fake news. The gold State Warriors are making changes
to their logo next season. Real news. They're real and
they're spectacular. Not an overhaul, but a fresh look. The
(32:38):
Warriors made it official. It was leaked earlier in the
week that changes were coming a different font. The Babe
Bridge picture on their logo has been updated. I thought
it looked more like the Golden Gate Bridge now that
they're gonna be in San Francisco and would have no
ties to Oakland. But an updated Warriors logo for next
season as they moved to San Francisco. Yeah, that makes
that makes sense. That makes a ton of sense. Um
(33:02):
that they changed it, just tweak it, just a little
bit like a little bit, a little bit of new.
And of course they do wear some blue, but you're
gonna have same colors, different universe. It'll be very interesting
to see how this team evolves, what happens with Kevin Durant,
and we'll talk about that top of the One of
the leaks as well was the alternate you know, they
were the the town logos uniforms that were gray. I
(33:24):
thought they were atrocious and just so ugly. They're gonna
have a new one with the Bay, So that'll be
something to look forward to next season. Real news are
fake news. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins called himself quote pretty
much a five D quarterback end quote that sounds like
fake news. Spectacular, Yeah, saying he needs to step up
(33:45):
his game because he's pretty much a five D quarterback
right now. Those are the words of the Vikings signal caller.
You know the big thing, you know, he's he's small game,
a small game Kirk. Just don't call him Kurt, but
don't call him big game Kurt. He's he's struggled with
with when the when the lights are hottest, and I think, frankly,
there's just a we know exactly what he is. He's fine,
(34:09):
he's good, he's okay. But I like at least that
he's taking ownership for his lack of ability to be
great and said he's just good. Real news are fake news.
The Tennessee Titans are honoring the Music City Miracle by
retiring Kevin Dyson's number eighty seven this upcoming season. Sounds real. No,
they're gonna be honoring Steve McNair and Eddie George. Both
(34:31):
will have their jerseys retired, George wearing number twenty seven
and the late McNair wearing number nine, will do so
in Week two of the NFL season. Hmm, yeah, yeah.
The Steve McNair is, I mean, because of how he died,
it's always gonna it feels weird, But it shouldn't affect
(34:51):
how he I mean, And yeah, I mean, it shouldn't
affect how we look at the type of player he was,
the impact he had. He was a magnificent player and
a good leader. And you know, Eddie George was a
dynamic running back and they had an immense amount of
success together. That's that's pretty cool. Real news are fake news.
After making a hole in one on the part three
seventh hold in the US Open practice round yesterday, Kevin
(35:13):
O'Connell had to leave the course in the eighth hole
as he started to Vomit sounds real, they're real, and
they're spectat way to go out the ace and then
so much more on the next all had been battling
stomach issues throughout the day, ended up kind of going
off to the side, you know, then had to get
some medical attention, and then ended his practice round. Didn't
(35:34):
practice today, but O'Connell gon to tee it up tomorrow.
He had a wretched round. Eric very good. Real news
are fake news. Tiger Woods says that he and his
dad paid three hundred dollars to play pebble beats for
the first time. Sounds real, you are No Tiger actually
said in his press conference yesterday that he and his
dad played pebble for the first time for under one
(35:56):
hundred dollars. That is not the case anymore where It'll
cost you upwards of five hundred plus to get around
at Pebble Beach, plus likely staying at the lodge and
other things. It'll cost you to pay. Pebble just didn't
cost Tiger as much. Yeah, something tells me attackers not paying.
Yeah now now Woods for some on the t Woods
(36:19):
for some Finally, Doug, real news or fake news? Major
League Baseball will host their first ever game in Kansas
tomorrow is the Royals take on the Tigers. Sounds real? Now?
They're playing an Omaha for the first ever Major League
Baseball game in Nebraska. Yes, at the new stadium where
they play the College World Series late on this week. Yes,
that is correct. Kind of a way to uh usher
(36:43):
in the College World Series. They'll do it with two
teams that shouldn't be professional baseball teams right now with
the Royals and Tigers. This is game time on the
Duck Got Leave Show. So the this might sound odd,
but what the hell are the Calves doing? Like Lindsay
(37:05):
Gottlieb is a good coach. We're not related my brother
and her. Uh. She got to Cows shortly before my
brother left Cow. She's at UC Santa Barbara. She's a
good coach. He had a great start at cal Or.
Second year they went thirty two and four. They've struggled
the last four years, you know, the last four years
they've been below five in conference play UM, but she
(37:28):
was making seven d grand And I just I get
that the NBA wants to have more diverse voices, but
she has no background at all coaching professional basketball, even
if the women's professional game. And like, if you're gonna
surround John Bline and I get he's got JB. Bickerstaff
(37:51):
as like his associate head coach, who has been a
head coach twice over in the NBA. But that just
feels like the weirdest higher ever, doesn't It Like it's
one thing, you know, to hire somebody who has you know,
she's worked her way up through you know, been a
scout or whatever, has an NBA background to completely come
from college basketball when you're when your coach comes from
(38:13):
college basketball, is just a we and they that is
a weird one. I mean, the lack of it mean,
it's very transparent. Look, I get it, you want to
have more women, and that's fine, if possible. She's completely underqualified,
even though she's qualified for just about any other job,
including a men's college head coach. It's just a different sport.
(38:35):
It's going to be interesting to see how this thing evolves.
But that one's a weird one of me. What will
k D do? And how should we look at him? Now?

(39:43):
I'll go ahead, Dan, Dan, What's what's what's it? I
know he broke the news, but yeah, this is this
from Kevin Durant's Instagram page. And actually I was doing
other works, so rym mus actually has it right in
front of him. Sorry for the toss back, guys, but
because I got I got it. It's good everybody. I
just want to update you. I did rubture. My achilles
surgery was today. It was the success, easy money. My
(40:06):
roadback starts now. I got my family, my loved ones
by my side. Truly appreciate the messages and support people
have sent our way. Like I said Monday, I'm hurting deeply,
but I'm okay. Basketball is my biggest love and I
wanted to be out there because that's what I do.
I wanted to help my teammates on our quest for
a three pet. It's just the way things go in
this game. And I'm proud that I I gave it
(40:26):
all I physically could. I'm proud of my brother's got
the w It's gonna be a journey, but I'm built
for this. I'm a hooper. I've known my brothers. My
brothers can get this game. Six. I will be cheering
with Dubbed Nation while they do it. So there you go,
that's uh, that's that's uh, that's Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant. Hmm.
(40:53):
I just look, I don't think it says maybe it
depends on how you view the world. I believe that
so many people view the world and what's the worst
possible intention, right like, And I don't know if it's
(41:16):
because they feel like they were wrong in their life,
or they didn't succeed enough in their life, or they
felt like I don't know, but let me just I'll
take my own perspective and share it with you and
then try and relate it to Kevin Durant and the
Warriors and their treatment of him. You know, I can't
tell you how many times I've been on television, run
(41:38):
radio and said something which, yeah, it could be like
negative about a team, and people believe that the reason
I would say such a thing, even though I've always
been somebody who's supported, you know, supported what I've I've
said what I believed um based upon fact, right facts
(42:00):
and evidence. For example, one year U c l A
didn't belong in the n CATE Tournament and I said
on CBS on the selection show, no one thought legitimately
thought they belonged in and so it became a big thing.
And even though I picked U Sila to get to
(42:22):
the Sweet six, team, which they did. And my logic
behind it was, once you get in a lot like
the NBA playoffs, it's about matchups and frankly a little
bit of luck more than it is about how good
you are. I had U c l A. People say, well,
because U c l A didn't offer you a scholarship
the second time you're recruited by them fifteen years later,
(42:46):
this was you getting back at them, which I sit
here and I like, this is like these grand conspiracy theories.
So you mean to tell me that somebody who had
a gray career met his wife at the school he
went to, as so many great friends played for legendary
head coach, playing three n c A tournaments, said every
(43:08):
assist record in the league, and and for the school,
went on and played professional basketball, now professional broadcaster, a
dream job. You mean to tell me, I harbor ill
will about a school that took Baron Davis, who was
the number one point guard in the country, Like I
have no argument, Like they would be idiots not to
take Baron Davis out of me idiots. So you mean
(43:32):
to tell me that I somehow harbor ill will towards
U c l A so much so that now now
is the moment I'm going to get them. That's the
stupidest thing I've ever heard, but it happens all the time. Well,
your mom and grandma and your dad actually even and
(43:53):
your grandpa all went to Syracuse. Syracuse didn't recruit you,
So that's why you said negative things about Syracuse. Now,
the only thing I've said about Syracuse is back when
they used to not play anybody, that it was a
joke that they didn't play anybody. That has nothing to
new with what I went there. Didn't go there. My
mom used to his friends with Jim Beheim, and they
all ran the same circles when they were in school.
Like nothing to do with it, uh, Or the fact
(44:19):
that I think the zone defense actually allows teams to
set the tempo against them, and I think that it's
a kind of a mail at India. It doesn't get
you ready for the NBA. It's not. It's I would
not choose to make my signature of my school a
zone defense. That's me personally. So I I tried to
figure out, like, why does my brain work differently than
these people? And the only thing I could ever come
(44:42):
up with is in their lives, they didn't people who
are like that either didn't accomplish what they think they
were capable of and blame other people, or they didn't
accomplish anything and blame other people, and they they harbor
ill will. So they must think that I feel that way.
They're rejecting their feelings on my opinions. That's the only
(45:05):
thing I can think of. And and I'm somebody who
I try and always see the good in the situation,
the silver lining in a bad day, And frankly, I
believe in the good most people. I feel like I'm
Luke Skywalker and I'm sitting there looking at Darth Vader
thinking still good in him, still good in him. So
(45:28):
when we look at the Kevin Durant thing, there's so
many people outside of even in the world sports like that.
The that this is the trainers. They forced him to play.
He didn't want to play, or he shouldn't have wanted
to play. Why they let him do this. It's there's
like some sinister sort of like or maybe as Kevin
Durant told us, he's a basketball player, he felt fine.
(45:53):
They thought it was a strange calf with the possibility
of something worse than Achilles tendant and Honestly, if that
thing was already ripped, it didn't matter if he played
or didn't play. He was gonna have to get it fixed.
But why can't it possibly be that everybody was actually
pulling in the right direction and something went wrong. You know,
(46:17):
it's we look at the n c A and assume
everybody's out to get paid and get like not really,
oh with the president, The n c A makes so
many millions dollars, How do you know? How many um
do you how many people? How many people work for
nonprofits that make millions of that are heads of nonprofits
(46:38):
to make millions of dollars, lots of them. Nonprofit does
not mean no profits. It's simply a tax shelter, that's
all it is. And when you're a guy who could
have a multi, multi multimillion dollar job outside of running
the n c A, you're gonna come in respective get
more money. So now we turn to what's that for
(47:00):
Kevin Durant. He's had the Achilles tenant surgery. He's out
for probably nine months, will be back on the floor.
This is Chris Mannix on First Things First this morning,
talking about Kevin Durant's free agency in the aftermath of
of the injury. I spoke to half execution half a
dozen teams and I just asked them, in sort of
a general way, would this stop you from offering Kevin
(47:23):
Durant a max contract? Nanswer was no. And if you
look at the circumstances of some of the teams that
are interested in Kevin Durant, the Knicks, what options do
they have if they don't lock up Durant to a
long term contract? Next summer's free agent class is not
very good. Yeah, I almost feel like this feels like
desperation for the next like like for the for the Warriors,
(47:46):
he's been there, he's won two titles. They're committed to him,
you know they even though it's not their fault, you
still gotta fight the bullet and go like, look, dude,
we'll take you no matter what. We'll keep you. Your
one of our guys. We're brothers here. Like the Warriors
have to offer the max teel, there's not really an
option there. He's taken less before, He's won two finals
(48:08):
MVPs for the Warriors. I don't think it's a sign
of weakness for the Knicks. The desperation is, hey, we
know you can't play probably for an entire year, and
we just had Kristas Prezingis who didn't play for an
entire year. We'll still take you. We'll still love to
have you now. Of course again, if you see the
(48:29):
good in people, if you see the good and you're like, well,
the Knicks, you know, moved all this cast based move
mountains to make space for Kevin Durant, hired a coach
that he would like to play for, put a front
office together, that he would like to work with the
allow rich climbing in the building and to kind of
be a part of the growth of lah blah blah
blah blah blah blah. But like, honestly, the Knicks are
sitting there saying like Mark Berman from New York Post
(48:52):
reported that the Knicks are still expected to pursue Kevin
Durant free agency. Woad said Durant will only opt into
his concurring contract is the last resort. So it doesn't
mean the Knicks are gonna offer him max. The Warriors
are offered him max. He's gonna opt out. But for
the Knicks, it feels like a sign of weakness. It
feels like they have no other options. It feels like desperation,
(49:17):
whereas the Warriors it feels different, even though it's the
same exact offer, because he's been a member of the Warriors,
because they were frankly in ownership of his rights when
he tours Achilles tended. If I'm Kevin Durant like that
(49:38):
kind of turns me off that the war you still
want me. Yes, I look, I understand everybody wants to
be wanted, and they'll probably be other offers. And maybe
he looks at it in the Gottlieb sort of perspective
of Hey, they want me, whether I have one good
leg or two. They're all in on the business of
Kevin Durant. But when you stop and take a breadth
(50:00):
and realize what that means for the Knicks, I'm not
sure it comes across as well as they think it
should come across. Talks about a fellow coming Next, Former
NFL scout John Middlecoff joins the show. What does he
think about the Raiders being on hard knocks? Plus does
he think Daniel Jones ends up as the starting quarterback
for the Giants by end of the season. Find out next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the Doug Dot
(50:21):
Leaps Show week days at noon eastern three pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
This for makes you more Zanowski. The Celtics and Lakers
are engaged in trade talks for New Orleans on All
Star Anthony Davis. Leagu's sources tell me Zach Low, Ramona
Shelburne and Brian winhorse Lakers for number four pick has
been discussed as a trade ship to help the Pels
(50:43):
acquire a high level player and multi team deals. Mm hm,
m hm. So that should be that should be fun,
should be really fun? Does feel? And I told you
the Celtics are still going after Anthony Davis. The question
is are they going? Are they? I don't believe they're
(51:04):
working together on the trade. There working against each other,
and so obviously getting out and being public is the
way the Pelicans are gonna try and generate more interesting
and try and drive that price up on both Jason Tatum.
As much as Jayson Tatum is a highly sought after talent,
don't underestimate how well regarded a Lonzo ball is by
(51:26):
both the Pelicans and the Lakers. John Middlecalfe has a
great podcast called Three and Out. It's on the Herd
podcast that worked. My podcast is all ball, is his
all football. He joins us in the Doug Gotlip Show
on Fox Sports Radio. I feel like HBO for the
second year in a row, hit it out of the park. Right.
Last year was the Browns. This year the Raiders. Can't
(51:48):
ask for anything more. On Hard Knocks, I would have
signed the Raiders so like a three year deal. I mean,
why why wouldn't you want them next year going into Vegas?
I mean at minimum a two year deal. It's by
far the perfect team. I didn't even think it wasn't
even a contest, and I'm around the fort is a
lot that they're pretty boring. The Raiders are a double whammy, right.
(52:09):
They got interesting personalities and their head coach and general
manager are made for TV. I mean, they thrived in
front of the camera, so it's it's perfect. And I
keep telling Raider fans this, you guys can kind of get,
you know, crapped on all the time being the laughing
stock organization, Gruden and Mayock thrived in that environment. Put
the camera on them. They'll make your organization look good.
(52:31):
So I actually think for for Raider fans it's a
positive Um, I've read this article, this Charles Robinson article
about laying on the lines a costly relican sports, and
NFL guys know this, and basketball guys don't. You're in
northern California. Like, I don't see it that way at all. Like, honestly,
(52:54):
Kevin Durad, the only thing he look did he cost himself?
Not in nine months? Yeah, but it's probably a pretty
good chance he tours achilles tending before and he was
gonna get it fixed anyway, right. I just I do
think we're using this. People are going to use this
as a US against the man sort of argument, and
and and and you know, compared to the NFL, and
(53:15):
it's not comfortable to the NFL. No it's not. But
I also think, like Kavan Looney around this area has
gained like an NFL status as just this badass that's
playing through an NFL type injury. And unlike the NFL,
you can't see the pain on a guy's face. I mean,
you can see how much pain Looney's in Clay didn't
need to come back to earn his street credit around here.
(53:36):
Everyone knows how tough he is. But I think it's terrible.
I mean I just saw right before I got on
with you. I guess Kevin instagrammed, which what what we
all kind of knew was was inevitable. It felt like,
but I think he gained a lot of credit around
this area because here's the thing, like people, it wasn't
the media we're questioning him, it was the organization was like,
(53:58):
what's going on? This is kind of weird. We we
got these other guys fighting through injuries. He's been kind
of cleared in our eyes and Kevin. I. I ran
into a doctor today at the gym who deals a
little bit with the team, more with the baseball team
and the football team around here, and he he has
dealt with Kevin Durant's guy that helped him with the
foot when he had an Oklahoma City and he was like,
(54:19):
there is no way Kevin was getting to go ahead
without his guy given the go ahead. So that and
you know this the difference in football. Football players, unless
you're Brady or a quarterback or maybe like a Khalil Mack,
don't have a lot of pollo. Joe Lacob, whose ego
is as big as the state. It just gives into
(54:40):
everything Kevin wants because Kevin's that important. Like if Kevin
didn't want to play, he wasn't gonna play. Kevin was
in control. I think the parallels the football are basically zero.
I mean, Doug, he can tear as achilles. I still
think the Warriors have the super Max waiting for him.
If you want to sign it, Lda Knicks would we
know the Nets probably would. You don't think the Lakers would.
If he's like, hey, Lebron, can I come down to you?
(55:01):
You know what I mean? It's hard he doesn't have options.
It sucks to me. It sucks from was he gonna
go down as like a top five or six player? Ever?
And now it's is he ever gonna be the same? Which?
Who knows? I actually think, And I know there's some
there's some Richard Sherman there kind of to it as well,
where you know, what did did Richard Sherman? Uh? Did
he have a partial tear before he completely tore his um?
(55:24):
But he was through a strain though, right? And yes,
but they all it's but again that's like the whole thing,
like diag diagnosis, a strain. But if it's if it's
partially what I've been told by a surgeon was like,
look these strains, like a lot of times it's already
partially torn, and in truth, to get it fixed, it
doesn't really matter. It's gonna go anyway or even anyway
(55:48):
to get it. Like, they don't really heal on their
own unless it's a very very slight strain of the achilles.
If it's a tear a legit tear of the achilles,
like you're once you go in there, you're out for
the same amount of time. Um, But there's some similarities
there in terms of what they're playing on and ultimately
it goes I do think that that there's this and
the reason there's a couple of reasons that the Warriors
(56:10):
are given the super Max the Knicks. With the Knicks,
obviously there's some desperation. The Warriors probably feel bad, and
he's one of the two championships. But I also think
his style of play, while he's explosive for his size,
like it's not like he's Richard Sherman where it's a
you have to be able to run or else, like
he's always going to be seven feet tall. He so
(56:30):
he comes back and unless I just I don't see
it hurting his style of basketball as much as it
would others. You know, when I have my second to
last year with the Eagles, Jason Peters, who's you know,
had a second half of a careers, the Hall of
Famer probably left tackle towards achilles. I actually think he
did it twice. He did it once and then he
was rehabbing and then a kind of like retour, And
(56:52):
that was in two thousand eleven. It's last five or
six years, he's been fine. And he's much bigger than
Kevin Durant in terms of weight. Uh. My initial reaction,
and again maybe it's the NFL guy in me, I'm like,
I don't know if I'd give him the super Max,
but clearly, like I think a lot of people fall
on the side of you from a basketball perspective, go, well,
(57:13):
even if he's not exactly what he just was, he'll
still be pretty darn close because his game he wasn't
Russell Westbrook, right. You know, It's why a lot of
people probably think Steph Curry's gonna age. Well, he's not
dependent on explosiveness. You know. It's like when an elite
wide receiver loses his speed, Well, if he's an Koon Bolden,
it doesn't affect him right. If it's if Odell Beckham
(57:34):
has a terrible achilles injury, he might go, uh so
to me, his it's all about the kind of like
you said, his style, but like the doctor mentioned this morning,
his body type. You know, seven footer, he's not a
muscle bound guy. It's it was his right foot, then
it was his right calf, now it was his right
achilles again. I'm not trying to be negative Nancy here,
(57:57):
but I I got some red flags, No there are,
but he he's not. He's also not going to carry
the weight of DeMarcus Cousins. So yes, if it's all
these things are breaking down, there's something wrong with the
alignment of his body. Has weird feet, he looks he's
got a weird shape body, but he doesn't. He's not.
I don't see him. He's like two pounds. I don't
see him getting the three bills. And now all of
(58:17):
a sudden everything starts to break down. That's maybe my
my way of looking at John Middlecoff joining us here
on the Doug Gotlieve Show. John, Um, let's let's get
back into the football stuff. Uh. Dave Gentleman said, Hey,
we're gonna play the best guy, like, okay, whatever, Like
I Dave Gentleman, it's been entertaining some of his things.
(58:37):
Do you think that Daniel Jones is the starting quarterback
by the end of the season. I'd be shocked if
it's not by like early mid October, unless they're winning,
which I don't see how they're gonna win, because I
can see some pressure now from the owner being like, well,
you just took this guy in the top six. I
we'll see this guy play because for his great is,
(58:57):
Eli's Ben in the past. For them, he's in a
shell of himself the last couple of years, and their
offensive line is not very good, so Eli can't move, uh,
even though he actually I think I saw on TV
had his most accurate season of his career last year.
But you know, the game's changed a little bit, right.
You just look at the quarterbacks over the last five
or six years. Basically every first rounder he either starts
(59:20):
Week one or is in relatively early by you know,
at the latest, like November one. The entire list of
first rounders from Trabinsky, you know, the all the guys
last year to the year before, with like Deshaun Watson obviously,
uh not Garoppolo, but mahomes a little bit of an outlier,
but he by far was the guy who played on
(59:42):
the best team. He was the only guy that really
played on a winning team. So every other guy they
either start Week one or they're coming in fast because
the team is not very good. I I just see
it being inevitable. I mean part of the reason they
were trying to like bench Eliot these last couple of years,
but they just had no one to go to. A
couple of years ago, the Geneau debacle. Then last year,
remember of the Kyle Louletta or whatever got in trouble
(01:00:05):
like running from the cops, and turns out they hated him.
Now there's just no excuse. I mean, you have a
first round pick sitting behind him. You know the way
NFL teams operate. The moment the starter and the giant
fans are already moved on from Eli. They're just gonna
want to see this guy. And I come from the
school now, especially with your bad teams. Just get the
guy out there, get him reps. He doesn't you know,
(01:00:27):
unless he's gonna get hurt. And this guy's athletic enough
to move around. I think it's a no brainer to
play rookies now as a you know, in their first year.
This is the Douglap Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
John Middlecoffe is joining Doug. I'm Dan buyer with some
technical difficulties that we had with Doug. John, this is
(01:00:47):
what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna tell you to hold
on for a couple of seconds. I gotta give everybody
an update of what is happening around the NBA because
so much is going on, and then we'll keep the
conversation going with Doug and John Middlecoff after I tell
you what is going on in the NBA, because there
is some crazy news, including breaking news involving Kevin Durant
of the Golden State Warriors. As Durant is the one
(01:01:11):
to break his news, there's the music that we were
looking for. Kevin Durant breaking the news on Instagram today
saying that he ruptured his achilles tendon in Monday's Game
five of the NBA Finals. He had successful surgery today
in New York. Durant on the Instagram page says that
he is hurting deeply, but he is okay. And ESPN
(01:01:32):
report from Adrian war Zanowski says that Durant's opting into
his contract with the Warriors four next year would be
his last option now. Anthony Davis. His name is in
the news today as an ESPN report says the Lakers
and Celtics have both engaged the Pelicans in trade talks
involving Davis in separate deals. The report says that the
Lakers could be willing to give up the fourth overall
(01:01:53):
pick in the draft later on this month as part
of a package to bring Davis to l A. His
agent says that's where he wants to go. Rich Paul,
speaking to Sports Illustrated, saying the Lakers would be a
premier option for the forward and says there's no better
place for Davis. As for a deal to the Celtics,
will Rich Paul told us I quote, it'll be for
one year end quote. Speaking of the Celtics, card Kyrie
(01:02:15):
Irving will not utilize his player option for next season.
He will become a free agent this soft season. According
to The Athletic and one other NBA note that Cavaliers
have hired Cal women's basketball coach Lindsay got Leave to
be an assistant under new head coach John Beeline. Gottlie
becomes the first women's college head coach to take a
position as an NBA assistant. Some day, Baseball Rangers on
(01:02:35):
top of the Red Sox due to one still playing
in the first inning in Boston. Reds and Indians playing
in Cleveland today, Cincinnati leaves a seven to two winner,
while the A's dropped the raise six to two thanks
to Ramon Loreano's grand slam in the eighth inning. Chiefs
have given right tackle Mitchell Schwartz a one year extension. Well,
the Tennessee Titans announced that they will retire Steve mcnare's
number nine jersey and then George's number twenty seven jersey
(01:02:58):
this upcoming season. It's Gay seven of the Stanley Cup
Final Blues and Bruins tonight at eight o'clock Eastern time.
Bruins looking for their seventh Stanley Cup in their first
since well, the Blues are looking for their first Stanley
Cup in franchise history. Will be back to the Doug
Gottlieb Show in ten seconds, but first a word from farmers.
(01:03:19):
It is the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Dan Buyer sitting in for Doug Gottlieb. John Middelkoff,
former NFL scout and host on the Herd podcast network
of the Three and Out podcast, joins us here on
Fox Sports Radio. I'm gonna I'm going to take over
(01:03:40):
some of Doug's questions. John. I hope you can bear
with me on some of this because one of the
news that that some of the news that comes out
over the Carson Wentz contract is now, what happens to
Jared Goff, what happens to Dak Prescott? How much of
a precedent of what went scout with the Eagles will benefit,
say someone like Deck or Jared Off. I think we
(01:04:01):
just gotta punch John through the phone lines before he
starts that answer. If we can, Johnny, you're there with me.
You got me now? Okay, Yeah, we got you now.
How much does Carson Wentz's deal affect Dak Prescott and
Jared Goff as they look for future extensions? Well, it
has to write because unlike Carson Wentz, who I think
we'd all view as the superior talent of the three,
(01:04:23):
he hasn't finished back to BacT seasons, and you know,
I know the backup is no longer there and Nick Foles,
but that guy had a little more success than Carson
Wentz did, especially this season. Uh, if you're Dak Prescott,
you go, well, I haven't missed a game I've started,
you know on too. I I've led us to the
playoffs two or three years. Jared Goff goes, I don't
know what everyone missed, but I just led the team
(01:04:45):
to the super Bowl and I was carsonal was picked
one pick after me. So I I don't think I
would feel as comfortable given either one of those guys
a hundred and seven million dollars guaranteed. But it's not
really arguable that their agent doesn't have case for, if
not equal money, more money, you know now at the
end of the day that one of them signed for
(01:05:06):
you know, a hundred million dollars, maybe, but I can't
see one of those guys signing for like eighty right,
I mean just once in these contracts once the president
gets set. It's especially with younger players because a couple
of years ago, last year, Jimmy Garoppolo signed for seventy
four million dollars. Well, Carson Wentz Goes, he started ten
(01:05:29):
career games, So there's no way I'm going to sign
a number anywhere close to that, and clearly he just
flew right by it. About forty million dollars later, and
I would imagine the happiest people in the room were
Dac and Goff, because again, even if they don't, if
they settle for a little less, it's not going to
be that much less. Dad can hand it off to
(01:05:50):
Ezekiel only it, just like I can hand it off
back to Doug Gottliebuzer. Technical issues have been taken care of.
Doug is back with John Middlecoffere on Fox Sports Radio.
Thanks so much. Okay, so so so, John, help me
out with this, Like, what is the landing spot for
Dak Prescott? Like I agree with the idea that it's
a ton of money, but usually whoever gets the next
(01:06:11):
deal gets a dollar more than the guy before. And
maybe Wentz isn't there yet, but you know where where?
Just what's what's a reasonable landing spot if you're the
Dallas Cowboys for Dak Prescott? Why, I think if you
could just sit down and have a conversation, because unlike
Goff and Wentz, they've been making a lot of money.
I know it's not what it used to be like
(01:06:31):
Madamic and sue Sam Bradford money. But they still signed
I think, you know, twenty eight million dollar contracts, so
they are not they're not struggling for cash. Deck on
an NFL scale, has been bottom of the barrel. So
he goes, well, you've gotten me for a huge discount.
But I think they have. I mean, obviously you have
a good relationship with Jerry. I think Jerry can go listen,
(01:06:51):
if you can give us like ten million dollars back
a little bit instead of a hundred five or hundred seven,
let's meet a like guaranteed that will help us sign
not just Zeke, but maybe Byron Jones too. If if
you and because you're the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys,
you're a rock star, so you're gonna make more money
than these other guys. I mean, that's that's not even
arguable because it's the biggest brand in all of the NFL,
(01:07:14):
win or lose, and and they've been winning, so I
wouldn't be totally shocked if they can get a number
that's lower than went. And because if you're Deck, you
have to believe in what they're doing because they've drafted
really well. They have to me want to probably a
top four or five just roster top to bottom in
the NFL. I know it's hard when you're in your
(01:07:35):
mid twenties and you have an ego, but I don't
think it would be that nuts, like you could talk
to yourself into it. I'm a Dallas Cowboy quarterback. I'm
still getting an astronomical amount of money. I'm gonna make
a ton of money being this just to coach on
the you know or the quarterback in commercials and endorsements. Uh,
and I can help us keep these players that help
(01:07:55):
me win. Todd Gurley said that the anything that he's
going through now is just small, right. But everything we're
hearing is like, this is a problem. And last year
kind of a year early, they tore up his deal
and game a sizeable new contract. What do you think
the charges do with Melvin Gordon another guy who's been
banged up. Uh, kind of a slow starter's career but
(01:08:17):
then got it going up and down year last year
because of because of a knee issue. And uh and
look he's deserving of a new contract. But again, where
do you think that lands? Yeah, I mean remember that
first year it was like, oh my god, did they
just draft a terrible running back. You remember, he didn't
have any touchdowns as a rookie, and then by year
(01:08:39):
two they brought in JJ's brother and the running game
just kind of exploded and he he just looked like
a legitimate guy. And then, like he said, his third
year he was he was really good. I think it's
tough because these guys know their players better than anyone
when it comes to the medical. Uh, you can't get
yourself into a Todd Gurley situation. I love Todd early
(01:09:00):
and when he was humming, I thought he was, you know,
arguably the best non quarterback offensive player in the NFL
within the last couple of years. But like Todd, you're
just wrong. It's not a small deal. It's it's a
really big deal. I mean, your team invested all this
money into a position usually people don't pay, and then
they drafted a guy on the second day of the
draft at that position. So you can say whatever you
(01:09:22):
want that the team just told you what they thought.
It's a it's a problem. Uh So, yeah, if you're
the Chargers. I've heard to LESCo. I heard him on
with DJ on Move the Sticks podcasts. They I mean
they got a lot of guys to pay, So I,
I know it's tough, you know, not paying a first
round pick, but I think it's It's one of those
where you go, if you'll sign a really team friendly deal,
(01:09:43):
will do it. But I I I wouldn't be opposed
if on them to just letting him hit free agency
after his fifth year option. If I can't get a
you know, a really team friendly deal just because I
can't because I can't pay him Todd Gurley type money
when I have all these other players, I have to compensate.
I completely understand. Last thing we started by talking about
the Raiders, who are gonna be the team on hard docks.
(01:10:04):
The team that Antonio Brown left behind is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And they've done the opposite of what the Raiders or
the Browns have done, which is, let's get rid of
the the tepid personalities and let's do the kind of
the cultural reboot right and and Ben is trying to
at least pretend to take a bigger leadership role right now,
how do you think this ends up? Like? This is
(01:10:25):
a team that I get it. They've they've jettison guys
in the past, mostly because of contracts more than anything else.
But when you lose your best running back and when
you lose your best wide receiver and two of the
elites in the game, and you say we're gonna do
a baseball call, did they have the guys to be
as good as they want their their team to be.
That's a great question because I would imagine if you
(01:10:46):
just pulled up the touches and the touchdowns from the
last Obviously Levian didn't play last year. I mean, I
think Antonio had fifteen touchdowns over the previous two years.
I mean, those guys were producing at a record rate.
So it's just just hard to fill in what those
guys had going for them. But I I do think
there's a little addition by subtraction. The drama that those
(01:11:08):
two guys brought was Terrell Owens level. I also think
they're gonna benefit from I don't love the division. The
ravens Lamar Jackson can't throw, and they're basically gonna run
the NFL version of the wing t uh. They lost
a ton of guys on defense. Now, Hardball is a
good coach and they got a culture, but I think
their roster is dramatically worse than it has been the
(01:11:28):
last couple of years. The Browns their roster on papers awesome,
but the Browns had whether they had one winning season
like my adult life. Uh. And then the Bengals are
going through a massive rebuild and a first year head coach.
So I I don't think it's inconceivable that the Steelers
could have quote unquota down year, be like ten and
six and still win the division. Uh. I'm by no
(01:11:50):
means out on them, but you can't be as bullish
because I mean, a couple of years ago when they
had Levian and Antonio rolling, I thought they were the
best team in the league. The couple games, you know,
right early. I guess it would have been two years
ago before Shazer got hurt, because their defense was playing well,
their offense was unstoppable. And then they haven't quite been
the same since Ryan got hurt. But they traded up
(01:12:11):
this year, which kind of isn't their m O right,
and got the Michigan linebacker. Uh. The one thing that
would concern me about that is Fangio, who knows linebackers
better than never didn't really love him, but you know this,
you know, not everyone fits for everyone. I get it,
but the Steelers liked them and they have a good
history drafting linebacker, so I'm not I'm not out on
the Steelers by any means, but I wouldn't i'd be.
(01:12:33):
I'm lukewarm on him. I think it's fair to say,
great stuff. Man, Thanks so much for hanging with us.

That's that's one only. John Metelkoff. Nick Wright is worried
about the Raptors and their ability to rebound from a
loss in Game five. I'll give you my thoughts next.
(01:13:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Dot
Leaps Show weekdays at noon Eastern three pm Pacific every day,
this time the Doug got Leap Show, Fox Sports Radio.
We try and get you updated on stories. We want
to make sure you know what other people said. We
think it's important. Their opinions do matter, and they work
for a network that has Fox Sports One, Fox Sports Radio,
(01:13:37):
so many different shows, so many different opinions. We bring
it back for you, We call it and now say, um,
this was earlier today. This is Nick Wright talking about
his concerns for the Raptors heading into Game six. The
biggest concern is how much of an emotional gut punches
those final three minutes that when Nick Nurse called that
(01:13:58):
time out, they were wheeling out the trophies. And over
the course of those final three minutes, the Raptors offense,
which had been playing so well, went one for six
and scored two points. And the defense, which had done
a good job through the series of staying attached, gave
Stephen Clay good looks and do you have a hangover
from that? We saw. The closest fact similar to this
(01:14:20):
would have been the Ray Allen shot in Game six
and then the response in Game seven. Spurs did not
have a hangover in that game Spurs came out ready
to play. Tim Duncan had a little baby hook shot
with forty seconds left to tie that basketball game. He
just missed it. Lebron then goes and hits the jumper
and the heater champions. But that team had more championship
(01:14:41):
experience than this one. That team had more guys who
had been in that moment at that level than this one.
And that team had a coach who knew what the
moment was. Yeah, I I do think there's the is
the moment too big for them? I think that fair.
I think that's really really fair. Um. But I would
(01:15:03):
also tell you that we've seen this in game two before,
right game too. It felt like the moment might have
become just too just too big, just too big for
the um for the Toronto Raptors. But you know, with
that mind, they recovered and they were great in Game
three and great in Game four and it was a rap.
(01:15:25):
Now they helped out in Game three by the fact
that Clay Thompson didn't play. But yeah, those it's it's
you know, those hardest outs to get are the last
three outs that that's not new and it's completely accurate
and it's hard to see a team that was so close,
so close, Um, all of a sudden now bounced back
(01:15:49):
after what was what was devastating. The good thing is
they do have two games. There's still not a crazy
amount of pressure because they return home. I think there'll
be a lot of pressure in game seven, and they
just have more health the bodies. But I don't think
that's it's unreasonable at all for Nick um Nick right,
or or anybody to say, Look, I I just I
(01:16:12):
honestly think it's um. I think there's a there's a
chance there that that that they're not ready for this
moment and that they're concerned over the kind of the
shrapnel that's still there because they thought they were so close.
They were wheeling out the trophies and it's really hard
to overcome. We talked about this heading into game five. Now,
(01:16:34):
I thought Kevin Durant would play. But the idea that
you got the you got the balloons up in the rafters,
that everybody's celebrating, that that puts pressure on people. Maybe
it's better that they're on the road. UM. I don't
know where Golden State comes up with the offense. I
don't know where they come up with the energy. I
would point out that the extra day off, the game
(01:16:55):
not being until tomorrow can only help them. And I
think Golden State is running on fumes because they don't
have enough bodies. But I also think that the Raptors
are kind of on fumes. So my act, I would
on paper, the Raptors should win this game by seven
to ten points. They're a good team, they're a healthy team,
(01:17:16):
and they haven't gone through all the ups and downs
and the crisis that the Warriors have gone through. But again,
games aren't played on paper, they're played inside television sets.
That's what the Fox says. Music, what do you think?
But yeah, I think just based off of health, Um,
I'm gonna have to go with the Warriors in games.
(01:17:36):
Are sorry the Raptors in Game six because the Warriors
have a lack of health? Yes, so many health issues,
so many. Um. I felt so good about my pick
when Durant was playing, and then I felt so awful
about him getting hurt that I you know. Anyway, Uh,
(01:17:57):
what a crazy couple of days. All right, Speaking of
the NBA, all this stuff never stops. We have a
ton of new information about the Lakers and the Pelicans
working on a potential deal for Anthony Davis to finally
end up with the Lakers. I'll give you the latest
and what it means next in the Doug Gotlip Show.

I there are times I make a lot. I make mistakes.
I say things that um that don't don't lay out
(01:19:00):
the way in which I thought they would play out.
But this one feels like and I told you so,
So I'm gonna say I told you so. Let's go
back to trade deadline time. And on this show and
on Colin Cowherd Show, I said that if I was
the New Orleans Pelicans, I would have no problem trading
(01:19:20):
Anthony Davis to the Lakers if they wanted to give
me a better deal than anyone else, then I would
take it. And I also felt like the Lakers have
some good young players. Now this is before they had
the number four pick in the draft. But if the
Lakers were in fact offering the kitchen sink of Alonzo
(01:19:41):
and Cou's and Ingram, which I don't believe they were
actually offering, but you need to go after that and
get that. I was back when they had Zoobach and
Josh Hart and they said, we're not trading him, Like, okay.
The more you hold onto a player, it's like a car,
it has decreasing value. You know, the second you drive
it off the lot, you've lost money. You better hope
(01:20:04):
you've got a really good deal and you're gonna buy
the car for you know, and keep it for five
to six years, because if you're gonna try and flip
that car, you're gonna lose money. Cost of ownership, appreciating asset.
That's what you have with Anthony Davis, Ryan Music. You've
been here the whole to you produced when I was
on Coward, You've you've been with me the whole time.
(01:20:26):
Am I wrong to think people will look at this deal?
And some of it was it being misreported some but
some of it is just the idea that they were
so staunch in there, we don't want to trade the Lakers.
They missed a window. It was probably a better offer
than this one, which was likely to go through. That's
correct as you referred to it at the time. You
always said it's a herschel Walker like trade and they'd
(01:20:49):
be making a huge mistake passing on it. Yeah, and
I look, if you get a Lonzo Ball, I think
a Lonzo is gonna be outstanding. Maybe not not all star,
but I think it'd be a really good play and
combined with Drew Holiday, that's a very dynamic defensive backcourt.
But Brandon Ingram, there was Zion Williamson, Like, that's a
good starting four. And you can draft Jackson Hayes at four,
(01:21:11):
who's got a limitless upsided center, or a Cam Reddish
who's long is what there are? These guys are ways away.
But if you get Zion Williamson and one of those
guys and you have cast based like, you're in pretty
good shape, pretty good shape. So the deal, which I
believe you heard from Dan Buyer and so Dan, it's
(01:21:33):
not that I wasn't listening. I was listening. I'm repeat
it is likely to include the number four pick if
they can flip that number four pick into a good player. Otherwise, uh,
it might just be the number four pick. Like David
greg there's some salary implications. They got to get the
money to be exactly right on the deal, and so
there may be something somebody else or something else thrown in.
(01:21:58):
I feel like this is a win for the pelic Ins,
and it feels like a win for the Lakers if
they can hold on to Kyle Kuzma. And that's what
the Pelicans like. Well, throwing Kuzma and we're good. You
don't need the fourth pick, like no, no, no, we
like Kuzma. Ingram wasn't drafted by Rob Polinka um And
Ingram's a mid range guy and that he's good defensively,
(01:22:18):
his numbers. He played great basketball before he got hurt late.
Ingram's got some injury concerns. Alonzo is the guy they
don't want to give up. So if you're the Lakers,
you better know who your point guard is going to
be if you're going to trade away a Lonzo Ball
and the and while everybody's looking at Kyrie. Now that
(01:22:39):
Kyrie has said he's gonna opt out, that's possibility. Kemba
Walker comes to my mind. You gotta figure out a
way because you have to have a point guard who
can help you both offensively and defensively. You gotta have
somebody else who can make plays and make plays. You
can have Anthony Davis, you can have Lebron James, you
(01:23:00):
can have Kyle Kuzma. Kuzma not a very good defensive player.
Lebron James not nearly defensive player who used to be.
You gotta Anthony Davis, who is gonna have to play
a bunch of center and will be a rim protector
and is a scene as a plus defensive player. He
may not be as good as as he has been.
(01:23:21):
You know, maybe some of that is not being locked
in UM, but it feels like that's where this deal
is headed. And it's if that's the case, you're the Lakers.
You've gotta figure out a way, you know, because you're
gonna need a starting two guard and a starting point guard. Hmm. Interesting,
(01:23:46):
interesting stuff. This is the Doug Allip Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. Let's um, let's turn our attention to
the NBA Finals tomorrow and I could be the last
basketball game. It might not be, might not be. Give
you more d tales on the potential trade in a moment,
But let's welcome in Josh Louisburgh, who is the Raptors
insider for TSN following on Twitter at j lou ten fifty. Josh,
(01:24:11):
what what was it like the other night? What was
it like a Monday night? It was a very bizarre game,
a very strange emotional scene, Doug. As strange a game
as I've ever covered, and certainly a strange an NBA
Finals game as I've ever seen. Where You've got both
teams that I know people have said this, people have
written about this. You've got both teams that were distraught
(01:24:34):
after the game, obviously, the Raptors giving up a great
opportunity to win the game and win the championship on
their own core in front of their home fans, and
they were, uh, a shot away from it, a point,
I guess, a couple of points away from it. Uh.
And then you've got the Warriors, who, despite the win,
and I mean a really impressive win in the way
that they both came back from the injury, were about
(01:24:55):
to talk about as well as coming back from a
scenario where Kauai goes on this runs scores ten straight
Raptors points, and a lot of people in the building,
probably everyone, most of the people in the building, felt
like the game was over, the Raptors had won the championship,
and then here are the Warriors bouncing back with the
big shots from step and Clay and all that. So
a really impressive win, but it just didn't feel like
(01:25:15):
that after the game where the emotion was directed at
the injury of Kevin Durant, the reaction there from um
Bob Meyers fighting back tears and and Steph and Clay
and and win this for k D. It was really
interesting because you've got two teams that process and express
emotion in different ways. The Raptors all series we've been
(01:25:36):
documenting how straight, basd and and business like they've been,
whereas the Warriors have always kind of been elite of
motors in the way that they react to things on
and off the court. But here in this situation, especially,
this is an emotional moment for the Warriors, and they're
embracing it, they're steering into it, they're saying, we're gonna
(01:25:57):
win this for k D and if they do end
up winning it, that's the story here, is that they've
rallied around this really emotional situation and and it's it's
made them better, It's it's given them purpose here. I think,
so what about the what about the Raptors? How much
um you gotta it felt like like an extra day off,
but how much of you know? They're up six, they're
(01:26:19):
on twelve to two run, you call it time out
and you're you're getting the trophy ready, right? And people
are like it felt like they were one bucket away,
like one bucket away from that being that and the
season being over. And I know, look, the Warriors can
score quickly, as they showed us all with two quick
threes that they can. But how how hard is that
(01:26:40):
going to be to get over heading into Game six?
I think for a lot of teams it would be.
Maybe for most teams it would be. I think the
Raptors might be an exception. You're just based on the
body of work over the last uh nine months, but
mostly over the last month and what we've seen in
the playoffs here from them when they have had potentially
he's an ending, devastating type moments, whether it's in a
(01:27:04):
game losing um as they did in game I wasn't
gonna say game two against Milwaukee, but I guess you
can throw both of those two games, the first two
games in Milwaukee into this equation here where remember it
was they had a great opportunity to win Game one
against the Bucks, went into the fourth quarter, had that lead,
they led for most of the game, and then collapsed,
(01:27:25):
and then they get blown out in Game two. And
that's a situation not unlike this where you're thinking, Okay,
well maybe they're done. Maybe this is sort of a
momentum shifting scenario. But the Raptors kind of going back
to what we were just talking about and the way
that they've handled emotion and the way that they've handled
situations here where it's just been like, Okay, that was
what it was, We'll take what we can from it
(01:27:48):
and onto the next they looked at these opportunities. They've
looked at these situations more as learning opportunities than missed opportunities.
So I think what they do is they look back
at that and say, this is what we need to
do to not only put ourselves in that position again
where we're up six three minutes left or whatever it was,
but put themselves in a situation where they can then
(01:28:09):
execute better and close things out. Josh Loomberg joining us
and the Doug Gotlips shows the Raptors inside of for
tsn um okay. I. I liked the Warriors, not just
because KD gave them more firepower, but because it allowed
the Warriors to play small, which allowed which you know,
dragged the big guys who have been so dominant, so
(01:28:30):
incredibly important to what Toronto does, kind of off the
court or out onto the court, spread them out on offense,
change how they could guard him on defense, change everything.
Now he's gone. Just in terms of the matchups, in
addition to the number of live bodies, they have done
the matchup favor of the Raptors as well. Yeah, I
(01:28:51):
think so. And that's a good point. That's sort of ironic.
I guess for the team that wears literally the strength
and numbers on their T shirts, they don't have strange
the numbers right now. They've got a few guys, I think,
in addition obviously to the stars that play and and
and Steph and Draymond, they've got a few guys that
caused matter problems. Men, they're playing well and can swing
a game and maybe swing this series. And DeMarcus Cousins,
(01:29:14):
I don't think it's a coincidence. Two games the Warriors won.
He was really good. I mean, he wasn't even gonna
play in Game five if not for the k D injury,
he was probably headed towards D n P c D territory.
But he comes in and really gives the Warriors in a
a lift and at a time when they desperately needed it.
As they mentioned earlier, I mean that was that was
a moment where a lot of teams would have broken.
Did you watch your teammates, your your best player, your
(01:29:36):
superstar go down and just a devastating way, and then
all of a sudden you've got to come back and
you've got to respond. And I think DeMarcus Cousins had
a lot to do with that. He of course is
really good in Game two as well, another game that
they wanted. The games that the Warriors lost to Marcus
Cousins wash, I mean almost unplayable at times. Andrea Goodala
(01:29:57):
is probably another guy. So they've got a couple of
guys that can swing game games. But you look at
the Raptors. And if you're talking X factors, I mean,
obviously you know what you're gonna get from Kauai, Sakum
and Lowry. They're probably closer to the X factor territory
just because they have had a wide variety of of
of outcomes and and and performances in this series. But
(01:30:18):
you can go down the list. Marcus Al He's been
the next factor for them, Danny Green, Fred VanVleet. Basically
everyone that gets on the floor for them can really
impact the game, like serious Serge Ibaka can seriously impact
the game. So I think from a matchup standpoint, from
a basketball standpoint, the Raptors. You look at this and
even though the momentum maybe has swung a little bit here,
they're still in a good spot and I know they
(01:30:39):
feel confident about where they're at going into Game six.
Should be interesting. Josh Louinburg Raptors inside of ts and
fallm on Twitter at j LU ten fifty. He's got
a job for at least one more night covering this
year's team could have the first championship in Raptors history. Josh,
great stuff. Thanks for joining us, all right, Doug, take
care of My Friends. Frank Eye Solo covers the NBA
(01:31:00):
for the Athletic and US Satellite Radio. Does he think
Anthony Davis ultimately ends up with the Lakers? Plus the
Nicks still want to give the Max to Kevin Durant?
Does Durant still want to be a Nick? Find out next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the Doug Dot
Leaps Show week days at noon Eastern three pm Pacific

(01:31:24):
Frank I Sola covers the NBA for the Athletic and
for Series x M NBA Radio Money. Through Friday, seven am.
He joins in the Doug Gotlum Show, Fox Sports Radio. Um,
let's start with the stuff we've heard most recently. Looks
like the Lakers are trying to find somebody take that
fourth pick off their hands. They get another player to
the New Orleans Pelicans. What do you think of the
(01:31:44):
idea that Anthony Davis will finally become a Laker If
this happens, I mean, it's it's It's clear, Doug that
Rich Paul, working on behalf of Lebron James, wants Anthony
Davis to get there, and they blew it during the season,
and then Rich Paul now is all in and saying
things like, don't trade him, He's not going to resign
with boss. And so it all comes down to we
(01:32:05):
we heard that Gayle Benson the owner of the Pelicans,
and not want him trade it to the Lakers. But
I have a funny deal in that, David Griffin, do
you bring him in there if he can get the
best deal and it ends up being that Anthony Davis
goes to the Lakers. I think David Griffin could convince
Gail Benson what's best for the organization. I still think
he's going to the Lakers. I think David Griffin, who
(01:32:25):
was with Lebron in Cleveland, I think that kind of factors.
And I'm not saying he's not gonna get a good deal,
but I think somehow, some way, Anthony Davis is gonna
end up with the Lakers. I do too. My question though,
is if they if they trade Lonzo Ball, who they
really like and fits things, fits with Lebron Kyrie, everybody
says Brooklyn, So that means Kemba Walker like who they
(01:32:47):
need guards, they don't have guards, and they need him
in a hurry. Is it Kemba Walker. Maybe it is
Kemba Walker because everything that I had heard Kyrie Irving
and Lebron, yeah, maybe they've spoken in terms of playing together.
I don't think Kyrie Irving wants to do that. Could
Anthony Davis changed that? Maybe they couldn't. Also think about
this dog. If you're not gonna have Kevin Durant on
(01:33:08):
the Warriors next season, it doesn't look like that's gonna happen.
You know. It kind of opens things up in the
Western Conference. So if you put Anthony Davis with Lebron
and then you go out and you get if Kyrie
Irvon would have signed there, that does kind of change
things pretty dramatically for the Lakers. But a lot of
things have to happen. I don't know if it's gonna
be Kyrie. I still think if Kyrie goes anywhere and
(01:33:29):
it looks like he's out in Boston, it's gonna be
Brooklyn first and then maybe the next all right, So
what happens with Kevin Durant, Now that's a great question.
You know, could could the Warriors do something like give
them the five year deal if they if they feel
that he'll be back after a year and then it's
an extra year for him, and then maybe they tell him, listen,
(01:33:50):
three years down in the road, if you don't want
to be here anymore, we'll we'll try to facilitate a trade.
I still believe other teams would trade for him, but
you have to be careful, like if you're the Knicks,
for example, like Kevin, it's gonna go to the Knicks.
The Knicks who we're still eating that Alan Houston contract
and Amari Stodomars contract for a long time, two guys
that were injured. They're not gonna take a guy who
in September will have gone sixteen months, were assuming sixteen
(01:34:14):
months without playing in an NBA game, and he's gonna
be coming off of an achilles surgery. The Knicks are
gonna sign that guy. I mean, if you're the Knicks,
I think you should be smart and just kind of
move on from there. I think the best place for
Durant is still the Warriors, and maybe they have an
advantage now that they know that everyone in the league
knows that he's likely out for all of next season.
(01:34:35):
There there are a lot of people that are blaming
the Warriors for this injury. Durant had an Instagram post.
He didn't blame the Warriors. His mom hasn't blamed the Warriors.
But there are many players and pundance and people that
are what's your take on if there's somebody to blame it,
who it is? Well, Kevin Durant at one point during
(01:34:57):
the playoffs he said, do you know who I am? Right,
I'm Kevin duran So that Kevin Durant is gonna go
against his will out on the court and play the guy.
I mean, you played basketball, the guys love to play.
He's been after thirty three days. I find it hard
to believe that the Warriors are thinking, yeah, we know it.
He could probably blow his achilties, but throw him out there.
We're down three one. I'm not buying now, and I'm
(01:35:17):
just not I don't I don't think they would do that.
I think Kevin Durant has to have a big saying it.
And I do think what you said it is pretty telling.
You know, after the game, he had a post on Instagram,
didn't call out the organization, didn't say anything today. Now
maybe that will change in the future. You know, you know,
medicine isn't an exact science, and you can get a
lot of doctors, and I'm sure Kevin Durant had his
(01:35:38):
own people look at it, and I'm sure from all
the intel they were getting it was all, you know,
go to and go play. And I was there in
the building and I thought he was terrific. It was
like the first time in the game though, that he
had the ball and he was gonna like put it
between his legs and he's isolated on his former teammate
Sergey Baka, and when he made that that hard step,
that's when his achilles gave out. Before that, it was
(01:36:00):
more just kind of like you know, catch and shoot.
He did block a shot at the rim. That was
the first time he tried to do something a little
out of you know, not the ordinary, because guys do that,
but it was the first time he tried to do
like an individual move and it gave out. And that
was the sad part. But I'm not I'm not blaming anybody.
I know that's the thing to do, but I'm not
blaming the warriors here. I think it was torn. I
think it was a very partial tear that's hard to
(01:36:23):
see in an m R. I and I'm guessing, just
guessing with a little bit of help from other from
doctors that I'm guessing they probably told him like, look,
if it's your calf, it's fine, but if it's a
partial tear, you're gonna have to get it fixed anyway.
And the only way you're gonna know is if you go.
And then it went, because if you he was when
he got a hurt and he felt it go, he
(01:36:44):
was like resigned to it. There wasn't anger. There wasn't
it was. It was. It was very it was kind
of a matter of fact. And again I don't know
somebody's paying threshold and how they feel or whatever. There
wasn't defiance towards it. It was like, yep, it went.
Um felt like he felt like he knew this was
a possibility to me. And and it's it's interesting that
(01:37:04):
you say that because when you look at the way
that he fell and he takes his two fingers and
he puts it on his on his achilles, it wasn't
his calf, so he knew right away what it was.
And to your point, it's almost like his teammates behaved
that way too, like it was like, hey, we we
appreciate you trying to come out here and do this,
and it's messed up that it that you tore your achilles.
(01:37:26):
Maybe some of his teammates do that as well, and
maybe that all still plays into the fact that we
were hearing that he was feeling a little bit of
pressure from some of his teammates. You know, go out there,
you if you're gonna, like to your point, Hey, you're
gonna have to get it fixed. Let's get out there
and play, and let's let's see how it closed. Were
down three one. It might be the last game that
we ever play, that we all ever played together. And
(01:37:47):
let's face it, that could be the last game that
that group ever plays together. What about the series? You know,
it's like, I don't know how they won that game,
especially when they're down six late, but they did. Now
they get another home game in the Oracle, a lot
of anything can happen. They seem to just be out
manned because of health more than anything. And and let's
not take away from Frown, they're pretty good. I don't
(01:38:07):
think there as good as the words and words are healthy,
but the Warriors aren't healthy. So that's the mood point. Um,
do you believe we'll have a series here? Or was
that just one game on emotion. I still have a
hard time coming up with the idea that the Golden
State Warriors are gonna lose their all three home games
in the NBA Finals, which will turn out to be
(01:38:28):
the last three games ever played an Oracle Arena. That
part I struggle with. But it can happen, and the
road team has won the last four games. But the
NBA a lot of times, I usually go with the
team that has the best player, and Kawhi Leonard is
the best player out there. When they were on that
tend to run and he scored all the points. I
still don't understand why Nick Nurse didn't call it time out.
I mean the crowd, Yeah, why you did call it
(01:38:51):
time out? I'm sorry the crowd was I mean very
much into the game. The Warriors look dead on their feet.
It was almost like Nick Nurse through them a lifeline
by calling the time out there. I think Toronto is
a lot better right now because of what you said.
Without Kevin Durant, but I think the Warriors will find
a way to win and get the series back to
Toronto and then it's it's anybody's game. I would give
(01:39:12):
the Warriors a little bit of an advantage just because
of their experience. But I I I feel ever since
Game three, I felt Toronto was gonna win. So I'm
gonna stick with that. Um. And then and then, like,
what do we say about Kauai Leonard? Because I do
feel like if he comes and he wins the title
and then he leaves, like you're like, all right, he's
(01:39:33):
a mercenary. But he that's what that's what they trade
him for, right. UM. On the other hand, you can
stay and be a conquering hero in one country. What
do you think happens with Kawhi Leonard. You know a
lot of people up there have been talking about the
potential of a two year deal that he would sign,
and then after two years, if he leaves or stays
(01:39:54):
with the Raptors, he could sign the used contract. So
I think that's in play. But he's such an unpredictable
I and I would not be shocked if at least
I'll say this too, Doug. They before a game or
during game one and during Game five, they brought out
a bunch of old like Toronto Raptor players, like even
Chauncey Billips was out there. Tracy McGrady got a euge Ovasian.
(01:40:17):
Chris Bosh got a Drovacian, Vince Carter got a euge ovacition.
Those are three guys that wanted out of that place
in the worst way, and they never came anywhere close
to what Kawai Leonard is doing. So Kawhi Leonard definitely
doesn't have to worry about how people will how he'll
be perceived in Toronto, because I think they'll probably build
a statute for him before he leaves if he wins
(01:40:38):
a championship. But I would not be shocked at the
two years because, like you said first, you know, you
could dominate the Eastern Conference for a couple of years.
In that group, a lot of those core players, Lowry Gasol,
if you resign him, it's like their time is kind
of right now. So maybe in the next two years
they can make a run out and get back to
maybe one or two more NBA finals. Great stuff, Frank,
(01:41:00):
so let check out his work in the athletic. Of course,
you can hear him on Serious x M NBA Radio
seven o'clock Eastern every morning. Frank, thanks so much for
joining us. Look forward to talking with you after Game
six is in the books. Appreciate being our guest on
Fox Sports Radio. Thanks all right. Dan Buyer has been
doing yeoman's work today. He'll be heading up the Pebble
Beach with us tonight and into tomorrow where we'll be
(01:41:21):
broadcasting live in the US Open, which is on Fox
Sports One. So did Dan, did you and and music
decide your your car pulling or not car pulling? You?
Sleeping in your house tonight and then going up super early? Like?
What what is the what is your guys plan road trip?
(01:41:48):
That sounds problematic from from from from where you live,
from San Clarina or from the studio clar Okay, that
that's better? What is it like? A it was like
three four hours that way? Do you know that? And
you're you're going straight, You're going what I five? And
(01:42:10):
then cutting over aware very very romantic. Oh you're gonna
go through Pastor Robla, So I may see you in Pastorobas,
but my my, I'm not my time and departure is
not gonna be until about seven thirty. Little dude has
(01:42:32):
a tournament baseball game. How exactly do you plan on
seeing us in Passo? I drive a lot faster and
you're leaving two hours later and about fifty miles further.
It's not uh, well, I drive really fast. I'm like
the wolf in um uh in pulp fiction. Yeah, so um,
(01:42:55):
I'm like that. That's basically my plan. I drive really
really fast. I did forget you got one of those
hover cars, so traffic isn't I got one of those
other cars. So so tell me this makes sense. My
plan is, and maybe this is dumb. My plan is
to go up the same way when I don't know
if I'll go that way or go with the one
oh one or whatever, go through Santa Barbara. Um, but
(01:43:18):
to come back because we're done Friday at three, and
now buy are you staying for the weekend. I'm gonna
head back right after, I think. And then that means
if I go down the one, I can do that
crazy hairy drive right. M So it's a bad cause
(01:43:42):
if you're telling me don't do it, you need the
day to kind of do it. You can't just well,
I do feel like it'll be three o'clock and by
the time I get to like, like, uh, you know,
San Luis Obispo would be like six o'clock, Like you'll
see the whole like you're just driving with the ocean
next to you, like how many times your life. No,
it's amazing, it's amazing. It just takes you a long time,
(01:44:04):
that's all I'm saying. Because then it takes you down
to San Luis Obispo, you know, Hurst Castle area. You'll
see that. It'll take it, It'll take a little while.
I do like the one on one drive the entire
way when we went up for the preview day a
few weeks ago and my wife took that way for
the first time, and it was a very nice drive
(01:44:26):
on the way up, not as nice as pH The
five just is boring, but that's what we're gonna take.
We're just gonna straight there and go. Yeah. Yeah, the
five is well, you're also not going the five is boring,
but it's actually pretty right there. Um and then yeah
that that part is actually kind of kind of pretty.
And then you get off before you hit Baker's Baker's Neck, right,
(01:44:49):
I mean that's yeah, you got about another another hour
and a half before then you exit and cut across
on forty two. I believe. Yeah, there's there's no like
there should be. You feel like there should be a
better crossing than that. But you you do, you get
off of the major interstate. Um, okay, so buy are you?
(01:45:10):
I'm trying to think, were you working yesterday? Yes, you
worked yesterday? Yes? What did you think of the US
women in the thirteen nothing in them celebrating? Because I
was I was like the only one of us like
really paying attention to it and going like oh and
then and then music. You provided me with the information
that the record was eleven nothing. He scored twelve. I
was like, okay, good, that's a rap. So that was
(01:45:31):
that was Dan, Dan, that you provide that way. Okay,
great work Dan. Sorry, So Dan provided us with the info,
was like, oh, eleven nothing is actually the largest margin
of victory to shut out whatever in women's World Cup history.
They got to twelve, and then they went and they
scored a thirteenth goal, and I didn't realize that they
were kind of acting like idiots when they scored. I like,
(01:45:52):
there's two levels to it. One. Yes, I think you
guys acted like idiots. Sorry, ladies, you did. Guys act
like idiots, and you tell us you act like idiots.
This isn't This isn't Max Muncy hitting one into the
drink and Cadillac ing right, This is stealing second and
stealing third when the catcher's got an arm problem and
you know that they can't throw you out and you're
(01:46:14):
up tend to nothing and it's in the eighth inning, right,
like what are you doing that? They were Thailand was
a terrible team. Were a very good team. And even
if you score, there's there should be a certain amount
of decorum, but you don't have. It's soccer. Just play
keepaway and run out the clock like I'm not the
only one. No, no, you're exactly right. You're exactly right.
(01:46:35):
Like football. Like football, you can you can say, hey,
look we didn't throw it. We just landed up and
kept handling off to our fullback and they kept running
it and you didn't tackle us, like sorry. In basketball,
as long as you don't press, you're like, look, we
can't dribble out. We're gonna we're gonna take shots here.
You know, we're not gonna come down. We're not gonna press.
We're not gonna come down and have our best players
shoot threes. You know, we'll run some clock and we'll
(01:46:56):
take a shot. But there's a shot clock. There's no
shot clock in her none none. You can just play
keep away, and they chose not to. There's also only
three substitutions. So let's just say that you're Thailand. Now
you have to take after you're getting slaughtered, you still
have to compete, you know, in the minute and all
(01:47:19):
of a sudden, lets you say you lose a good
player that could help you in the group, all because
the United States wanted to score their twelfth and goal.
Well more and more importantly, like United States, you gotta
be careful. You don't hurt, you don't hurt yourself. I
have heard it in tennis, and you know, I actually
(01:47:39):
understand many of the arguments in tennis because there was
a time in which women's tennis was more popular then
men's tennis. And you know the tennis guys like, well,
you know, they only played, they only played three sets
and supposed to five sets. Like look, people were coming
to see the elite women's tennis players before men's tennis
picked it back up. But we've heard it from soccer players,
(01:48:01):
basketball players, like we want to be judged just like
the men. Okay, fine, just like guys, you acted like
jerks against the team that had no right to be
on that field. Other than they qualified for the World Cup.
We get it. You're good, they're not. That doesn't mean
you need to, you know, go into super celebration mode.
They didn't even get a shot on goal. Just play keepaway.
(01:48:21):
If you want to go for the record, fine, I
have no problem with it. It's more the way in
which you celebrate. And once you get to twelve goals
and you have the greatest blowout in World Cup history,
just play keepaway. Don't score. Another one that would be
my take is Anthony Davis on his way to the Lakers.
I'll have the latest for you next. Be sure to
catch live editions so the Doug Dot Leap Show week
days at noon Eastern three pm Pacific. Tony again Google
(01:48:45):
says the one play the Lakers that the Lakers trade
discussions with the Pelicans for Anthony Davis could hinge on
Kyle Kuzma. Lakers do not want to trade him, but
the Pelicans want him as part of the package, sources
tell me and um Brad Turner. Brad turn of course
covers the Lakers for the l a times. I don't
see the Lakers doing that deal. That was the deal
(01:49:05):
that that the Pelicans wanted previously, and I don't see
the Lakers doing There's too many holes. Now you need
a point guarded, two guard and a small forward. And
so what do you have? You have Lebron James and
Anthony Davis. That would be a bad trade. It would
be a good trade if you're David Griffin. Be a
bad trade. Otherwise, let's get you to the press, the press,
(01:49:30):
Dan by, what do you have? Well, it was the
big news of the day. Kevin Durant, the news breaker
as the Warriors forward, revealed on Instagram that he did
rupture his achilles tended on Monday, had surgery today, successful surgery,
and Steve Kurl, the Warriors, who just minutes before Durant
(01:49:52):
made the Instagram post, said they didn't have an update
on him. Well, now Sam Amy of the USA Today
is saying that the Warriors knew about the surgery. I'll
be as lee, But Kevin was the one who wanted
to break the news, so they allowed him to do
so doing so on Instagram. But Kevin Durant did rupture
his achilles on Monday, That's actually very cool of them.
They did that right, But they because because I was
(01:50:13):
worried when he didn't know, He said he didn't know,
and then it came out like, way are they not
talking now? Like, yeah, they are talking. I made another mistake,
dog getting in my ear immediately ride music. Sam Amick
is no longer with the USA today with the athletic,
I'm gonna start naming people who aren't with the athletic.
That's a lot easier that. And by the way, we're
(01:50:35):
gonna take hwaway forty six over through Lost Hills, as
it's not Highway forty two. Adam tweeted in you're gonna
take forty six? Forty two would take us to Vegas? No,
I don't know. I don't know if it would or not.
Reported earlier today that Kevin Durant opting in on his
contract with the Warriors would actually be his last weight.
You're taking forty okay, forty six yes, Lost Hills, Yes,
(01:50:58):
And then you go over and I kind of goes
backwards and he goes right to Pasa Robla's okay. So
then what's your expected time of arrival? Uh? Yeah, I
would say, probably with a stop here. Where are you
guys gonna stop? I don't know, probably when I gotta
go to the bathroom or something. Are you? Are you
constantly I have to go to the bathroom all the time? Guy, No,
(01:51:18):
I know, but there just maybe a get out and stretch.
You want some snacks, Let's go in and then we'll
go there will music? What SNAs? What snacks is music?
What's next to you? Are you? Are you prone to?
I mean, there's nothing wrong with a good bag of
chips when you're on the road, you know, sometimes you
get just gotta dive in. I know, but you're like,
you're a healthy guy. Right when you're on the road,
(01:51:39):
sometimes you gotta make exceptions. Just go with a nice
you know, Dan's always got good ruffles. Maybe, well we'll
see what kind of ruffles we can get, you know,
all dressed right there. I know, I know what Dan's
gonna have. Dan's gonna have a mountain dew and ruffles, right,
and beef jerky and some beef jerkey and some beef jerkey.
(01:52:00):
That will be the case. There is there is a
dairy queen at the truck stop on the exit, so
there maybe chocolate dip cone, right, you have to get
a dip cone and dairy king. I may get a
chocolate malt be easier to handle. A blizzard. It would
just a melt and it would be a well vanilla
would dip in chocolate with the hard card crust. Here's
(01:52:22):
the thing with cones. It's like you have to eat
him in like five minutes. That's the only issue. It's
you can't pause. It is a constant you know, you
gotta go for you when you when you're in, You're
in right. Absolutely, it is committed commitment. It's a commitment thing.
Celtics car Cardie Irving not committing to the Celtics. In fact,
(01:52:42):
says he won't exercise his player option. He'll be a
free agent this offseason. He's going to exercise his player option,
not his player option. By the way, this according to
the Athletic, So that is true. Well, he also posted
it on Instagram. Someway, we quoted Mother Teresa. He's like
one of those so intentionally weird dudes that everybody else
(01:53:04):
is like, Okay, Carrie, got you, mother Teresa. You know
what Mother Teresa didn't do? She didn't want the max contract.
Nothing says Nothing says Mother Teresa, Like I'm gonna turn
down twenty million dollars to gonna make a hundred forty million.
I want it all team Mother Teresa, Mother Teresa, when
(01:53:28):
you sign your contract, you know, Mother Teresa said, she
said get paid, Yes, you did, get rich. The that's
at mother Teresa on Twitter. The n C Double A
will hand out Level one on Twitter, Level one notice
of allegations to six college basketball programs involved in the
federal Briberry scandal. This according to CBS Sports. The report
(01:53:49):
quotes the n C double AS VP of Regulatory Affairs
is saying two high profile programs will receive their notice
in early July. So which programs, Well, there were twenty
schools named in the scandal. Reports have said that Louisville, Arizona,
and Kansas were under n C Double A investigations. Could
be any one of those schools, but we'll find out
(01:54:12):
in a couple of weeks. Yeah, there's also l s U, Auburn, USC,
Oklahoma State. I'm guessing l s U based upon the
transcript Based upon the transcripts, I think they will get
a call. I think the athletic was also investigated. Police
in the Dominican Republic say they have five people in
custody that they believe were involved in the shooting of
David Ortiz, including the alleged shooter. The group of people
(01:54:34):
hiring the two guys to go and carry out the shooting,
but five people now in custody. Um, yeah, that guy,
I don't know. He's not safe on it. He's better
off being arrested. That's the only his only chance. The
guy who tries to shoot David Ortiz's a that's a
guy with a death wish. Bengals wide receiver A J.
Green practice for the first time since a toe injury
(01:54:54):
cut short is twenty eighteen season. That's good news for
Ryan Music's team. Ryan Music likes the Bengals. Yes, he's
a Bengals fan. Forgot about that. Any Dalton's back right? Yes?
No one elict It's less excitement things saying Any Dalton
is my quarterback? Uh? And Tonight Game seven of the

Dan buy, who do you got? Let's go with the
Bruins at home? What about you there, Ryan Music, I
gotta ride with Dan on the Bruins there? What about you?
(01:55:39):
John Ramos, I'll take the Bruins at home. I know
where Doug's going. I'm going Blues St. Louis Blues, contrary
and pick on the road. Backing out there and pressed
that the press. Uh yeah, I just I mean, because
you know what we need, you know, people bust need
is another champion ship. Those poor people haven't had any
(01:56:02):
success recently at all, none at all. All right, tomorrow
