Rolling along on a Friday, it's gonna be back together
(00:21):
and we got some golf on TV as well. Jonas,
Can I tell you this, And I don't mean to
offend anybody, but this is my least favorite of all
majors in golf. And do you want to know why?
Dan was? Because I don't like how the courses look
in the Open. It's kind of depressing. There's there's not
a really a whole light there. I need some characteristics.
I need some Tory pines. I want to feel like
(00:43):
there's a bunch of trees standing around. What's the one
place at the castle A couple of years ago it
was it was the Open Championship a couple of years ago.
Bled over into a Monday and the guy one on
a Monday, and everybody was happy for him and he
was crying at the end. And it was in like
Scotland or something like that, because I think, well, let's see,
let's see Francesco Molinarady one last year at Knew Jordan's
(01:05):
speet one Hendrik Stenson on Johnson the Open. That could
have been because I did he won a three guy
playoff between him and Louis stays And and and Marc Leishman. Yeah,
so there was like a castle there that has some
person But I just I don't know, man like Augusta
feels like it's got certain things there that you can
(01:27):
you know, Amen corner and there's I will say this
in in a major's year where you obviously you always
are at Augusta National and you also have pebble Beach
like the the aesthetics are tough to compete with. But
I really like the look of it and I think
it's unique, very green. I know it's cloudy and overcast,
(01:49):
but that's the way it is in and whether it
be England, Scotland or here in Northern Ireland hill no,
it isn't there. There's only one Aron Hills and uh
hopefully planning to be there in a month. Drop my
name at the front if you want to water see
you know whatever you prefer, just JK. It is the
(02:12):
Doug Gottlieb Show, brought to you today by Farmers. At Farmers,
we've seen almost everything, so we know how to cover
almost anything. When it's game time. Have an experienced player
to help you stay ahead of the game, but their
experience into play. At Farmers dot com, we are Farmers
will actually be going to Royal Port, Russian about twenty
minutes or so, checking in with the Golf Channel's Todd Lewis,
(02:33):
and you can complain to Todd on how much you
hate the aesthetics. I need buildings. You need castle. There's
the done loose castle that they show in the commercial breaks.
You can you can ask about that and in everything
else that's going on, including Tiger Woods not playing the weekend.
But news today in the NFL, and it's the big
news of the day, the NFL speaking out on the
(02:55):
Tyreek Hill situation and in fact not suspending the chief's
wide re eiver. In a statement, the league said, and
I'm and I'm taking it from their statement. In conducting
our investigation, we have taken great care to ensure that
we do not interfere with the county's proceedings or compromise
the privacy or welfare of the child in any way.
The information developed in the court proceeding is confidential and
(03:16):
has not been shared with us in the court of
sealed all law enforcement records. Local law enforcement authorities have
publicly advised that the available evidence does not permit them
to determine who caused the child's injuries, and then it
was added, the NFL cannot conclude that Mr Hill violated
the personal conduct policy with the evidence that is currently available,
(03:37):
So Tyreek Hill after the child abuse allegations will not
be penalized at all at this time by the National
Football So it feels like because they didn't have enough
there that they chose to not suspend Tyreek Kill even
though everybody was convicting him on social media a long
(03:58):
time ago that he was guilty and look, something may
have happened, But the fact that the NFL took this approach,
I don't have an issue with it. I really don't
have an issue with it. I understand the NFL's approach
and maybe this is the approach they should have taken
on some other cases. The Ezekiel Elliott's case has kind
of been two fold because you have the six game
suspension for a variety of things that happened, and then
(04:22):
you had the situation at the Vegas Music Festival in
a couple of months ago that was just recently cleared up.
One one side of the Ezekiel Elliott thing went way
to the right, the other one now way to the left.
And it seems that the NFL is almost on this
now sliding scale of how they determined punish. It's an
(04:43):
over correction to an over correction to where Ezekiel when
I knew that there was sort of a shift in
the thinking and the philosophy of the NFL because you
and I were on the air together and I think
we both said we were surprised that Ezekiel Elliott didn't
at least get a game. I was, yeah, And I
think we were so conditioned to think, like how the
(05:03):
NFL is thought recently that if you actually were to
to watch the video and see it, did anything really
happen that warranted him being punished or suspended. He wasn't
even arrested. He was placed in handcuff, but he didn't
even get arrested. There's yeah, I think you can penalize
stupid sometimes. I mean, like I really do, and it's
(05:23):
not supposed to be. If you're Ezekiel Elliott, you have
to be aware of who you are and what can happen.
Doug uses the term big boy a lot here. He
he walked towards the security guard. I know that we're
not even talking about Ezekiel Elliott, but the point is
he knew what he was doing, and the guy fell
down over a metal railing. Now you can't do that stuff.
I complained multiple times on whether NFL players are stupid enough.
(05:49):
We would talk about I believe it was Alden Smith
that who ended up being back. No, it's Ruben Foster.
I'm sorry Ruben Foster would Ruben Foster would end up
staying with his girlfriend where there were allegations of fake allegations.
And the point is is the first time I can understand,
I can understand that, you know what, you got caught
(06:12):
up into something that had no effect or the the
person was doing you wrong. But the second time, if
you're still with that person, not realizing the situation that
you're in, and if this comes up again, then that's
on you. And and that's kind of how I feel
with with the tyreek Hill situation. And I know it's
difficult because they have the child together, But the the
(06:36):
issues that I see is you you gotta figure out
a way to keep these people out of your life
or or at least not play as big of a
role as they are, because then then if they are
a bad person, if they're the ones making up the
fake allegations, you're the one that's going to pay the
price for it. And that's where I look at it.
Like this situation. One that's being very difficult is why
(06:57):
why is this still going on? Why are you still
in a relay ship with this person if this person
is for some reason wanting to harm your career and
your livelihood, I don't get that. Yeah, I've always said
you can only control. You can put yourself in the
best positions possible, and then you just have to trust
that by doing that something good is going to happen
(07:17):
from it. And and tyreek Hill clearly hasn't put himself
in the best positions possible, but the NFL just didn't
have enough there. And whether you believe that ty that
Tyreeki was responsible for the injuries to the child or not,
that's that's fine. It's totally your prerogative, but I just
think that for so long the NFL has been so
harsh on other punishments. Look, tom Brady getting four games
(07:43):
for a football being deflated is is was insane to me,
And I guess you could also make the argument that
Tyreek Hill not getting any games for what happened and
some of the details that came out is also a
little bit insane. That's why I said, it's just sort
of this overcorrection to an for correction, and now they
find themselves at a spot to where And also I
(08:04):
don't buy the whole Well, it's you know, they're they
just care about ratings and they care about this man.
If that were the case, uh, would they have jumped out.
I'm been defending Aaron hernandez if that were the case,
where they've been jumping out and defending all these other
players that have had issues before. I don't buy that
it's all about business. I think that's a stretch by
a lot of people who want to turn this into
(08:25):
something that it's not. Yeah, Tom Brady is, I'm sorry,
he's on a different level as Tyreek Kill and Tom
Brady got four games at at one point, so to
look at that way. I look at it this way
for the NFL of why they did what they did today.
And I actually go back even before the Ezekiel Elliott's situations,
(08:46):
before all of this came up, and I go back
to Ray Rice, because the NFL suspended Ray Rice for
two games, and then the video came out, and the
outcry and the backlash at the NFL was, how in
the world could you give this guy only two games
(09:07):
when you had an opportunity to see the video. So
they hand out a punishment when maybe they don't get
all the information or don't want it to be known
that they had all the information. They were they were
in such a no win situation there because there were
some that's in many who said, you're the NFL, you
had to see it, you had to get that information.
(09:28):
Maybe some people gave them the benefit of the doubt saying,
all right, well you didn't have that. And the whole
getting in the tape was a big deal. And whether
the NFL office has wanted it or not, if you
gave Tyree Kill any sort of suspension Jonas that was
one game or two games, and any of this evidence
that they said un their statement becomes public or becomes unsealed,
(09:51):
and all of a sudden we find out actual facts.
The NFL here can always plead ignorance that we didn't
know and that's why we didn't act. But if they acted,
it would make it seem that the NFL knew, and
if stuff came out, it would be worse. So I
think it was in the NFL's best interest to be like,
all right, we're not gonna do anything here. Let's just
(10:13):
whatever happens ends up happening and move on. And and
if they would have given him any suspension, I think
it actually opened a lot more trapped doors for them
down the line if any of this information came out.
It's better to have no punishment than a small punishment
because everyone will look at the small punishment and if
it comes out later in The NFL has even said
in their statement. Part of their statement was you know,
(10:34):
if something else comes out or if there are more findings,
then we'll look into this again. It's like it's sometimes
it's better to just miss work completely than to show
up two hours late. You know, just just miss work completely.
I just say you're sick, then show up two hours
late and say, oh, you know, uh gas pump was
broken and I couldn't get it like and I so
(10:54):
I agree with you. I think the NFL looked at
this and said, let's just go ahead. We're not going
to have many suspension but if something comes out or
there is more evidence, then we will act on that
now that we know for sure. And I think people
and the reaction that people have is because one, it's
a child that's involved, so that's gonna obviously raise sensitivity
(11:14):
and awareness. And I get it and I agree, But
also because you can look back at so many other
cases over the past, however, many years since Ray Rice
and go, well, wait a second, he got this and
they got that. And because you have so many examples
in the NFL of them laying the hammer down on
guys who maybe didn't deserve the punishment they got, that's
(11:34):
why we have the reaction we do. It's I was
surprised that there wasn't any punishment, but now hearing their
statement reading it, I completely understand. What is surprising, and
it's something that will dive in later, is that not
only will tyreek Hill likely is not getting a suspension
at this time, he's also likely getting a contract suspension
(11:55):
from the Kansas City Chiefs, so that at least that
could be on the horizon for the wide receiver who
now will be able to return to the team, take
part in training camp and be ready week one. He
is Dan Buyer. I'm Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb
here on Fox Sports Radio. You can get Dan on
Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox. Up next, could we
have been witness to the biggest tease in recent sports history?
(12:20):
Find out who was involved next year on Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of the Doug got
Leap Show weekdays at noon Eastern three pm Pacific on

Doug today. You can reach us on Twitter. I'm at

you can catch up on if you ever miss. And uh,
you've got the Overnight coming up tonight, and then you've
(13:04):
got Saturday's Bucky Brooks and that's four o'clock Eastern time,
and then Sunday at at eight o'clock Eastern time, five Pacific.
You and Bratty Quinn. Yeah, we're the and that's after
you and Nick Boss. So we're like the uh, the
four round fight that goes on after the main event
if the main event ends early. So like those guys
(13:26):
who don't even know if they're going to fight on
that card or if it's gonna be on TV, but
if there's a first round knockout, then they wheel them
out there and go, all right, guys, you're up. The
first time ever Nick and I have been called the
main event, but hey, we'll take Hey. The main event
at the Open Championship is always been Tiger Woods and
in any major, but that main event is not going
(13:46):
to be sticking around for the weekend. Joining us now
to talk about the Open Championship live from royal Port, Rush,
good friend Todd Lewis. He joins the program once again,
Hey Todd, going to talk to you again. How are you?
I'm fantastic, how are you? You can see Todd on
the Golf Channel tonights and heck all the time. Is
he's the top anchor and reporter that there is in
(14:07):
the world of golf. You don't have to say it, Todd,
but I will. We're not gonna see Tiger Woods this weekend.
What what do you make of his comments of saying
I just want to go home? What do you take
from that after Tiger Woods fails to make the cut
at the Open Championship. I take and I took it
(14:28):
when he arrived on Sunday and landed and immediately came
to the golf course, who walked around that his body
is not where it needs to be. Um. Now that
being said, Tiger Woods just better than the field, but
not in a major championship. Um, he's he do. He
(14:50):
doesn't have the speed he wants, he doesn't have control
the golf all he wants. And I think he is
hurting a bit um and he's trying to put on
a good face, but it's just not there physically for
him right now? Is this is this forty three year
old catching up with Tiger Woods or is this what's
going on in the last eighteen months of trying Tiger
trying to get back to the top of his game.
(15:12):
I think it's a combination of a lot of things.
I think it is the fact that he is at
three and like all of us, you know, we just
don't have our fastball like we did in our twenties
and thirties. I think it's you know, it's it's taken
an emotional toll in a positive way of him winning
the Masters. But I think more importantly, I see that
spinal fusion surgery. Although he was feeling fresh and juvenated
(15:35):
and excited and optimistic when he came back immediately, um,
I think it's taken a tone in his body and
it just isn't quite where it was eighteen months ago.
He is Todd Lewis of the Golf Channel joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio. Dan Buyer Jonas knocks in
for Doug Gottlieb here on FSR. Was what we saw
(15:58):
at Augusta? Was that more of a tease because I
think the expectation was, all right, you know, maybe Tiger's back,
and that's sort of what we were hearing all the time,
Tiger's back. Tiger's back, But was that sort of a
one off and this is the reality of where he's
at in his career. You know, that's a good question,
I mean, and that's hard to say. I I think
prior to April, I think Tiger was physically much better. Um.
(16:22):
And he knows Augusta National and he's one of the
best game managers ever in the history of golf. And
so I think his experience and obviously his talent and
the fact that he was physically feeling better led to
him winning the Master's Um, it seems to be a
deterioration physically from April to where we are now in July.
So I wouldn't call it a tease. Maybe some rest
(16:44):
and recovery and some treatment, hopefully not another major procedure,
but you know, he could get things going to the
right direction. Um. But Tiger, Tiger, he said all the week,
I'm sore. I don't have the mobility like I used
to right now this week can consequently, I can't put
the ball in places it needs to go. Todd lewis
(17:05):
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Find Todd on
Twitter at todd Lewis g c obviously for Golf Channel
because that's where Todd is at. I want to ask
you about the guy who has a share of the lead.
I know it's not gonna grab headlines here in the States,
but how big of a deal is it over there
that Shane Lowry has a share of the lead of
the Open Championship. Well, it's not as big a deal
(17:26):
as if if Lord McIlory was leading. Um, he is
their favorite son, the most talented player right now, or
a Graham McDowall or even Darren Clark. But it's still
a pretty big deal. Shane Lowry, He's not from Northern Ireland,
from Ireland, and UM, he has beloved here in this
part of the world. He's got a great personality. He
won the Irish Open ten years ago as an amateur. UM.
(17:49):
And it's interesting you talked to him today and prior
prior to his opening around on Thursday, he was nervous
and not very settled with his game and he went
had a coffee at the bush Mills in down the street,
which is kind of ironic and uh that he had
coffee not bush Mills. And they had a discussion and
(18:10):
during that discussion, UM belief was put back into Shane's
mind and heart, and he came out of that meeting
feeling like, hey, man, I can run through the wall.
Let's give me to the first tea. And so he's
captured confidence this week and he's been able to handle
his emotions and the enormity of this event being not
too far from where he grew grew up and and
so far, you know, he maybe gotta beat Todd. Whenever
(18:33):
there's an international game and other sports, whether it's the
NFL going to London or Mexico City, whether it's um.
You know, if a fighter travels overseas, they'll get there
a certain amount of time beforehand to try and adjust
to the time change. How far in advance are these
guys arriving? And do you think that there's showing some
were based on the difference in time zones, the fact
(18:54):
that this is over in Ireland. Now, I don't think
it's a big deal in our word. Most of the
guys got here on Sunday and Monday. I mean, and
the guy look at me, look at the leaderboard. There's
this guy Billan for Kelly. Not many people may knowe
who he is, but he's just one on the PG
win on the PGA Tour last week in the United
States and then flew over here. Now he's close to
(19:16):
the first page of the leaderboard, so that you know
he's coming off in emotional highs. His first ever went
on the PGA tourities you had to find somewhere to
to live for the week, and we had his passport
and get everything in order because he's playing in his
first Open, uh and he's handled it well. I don't
think it's that big deal. These guys are used to
traveling the world and playing um, so it's pretty natural.
(19:37):
Todd lewis joining us here at Fox Sports Radio. Brandell
Shambilee had some tough comments for Rory mclroy after yesterday's
first round. Rory s um, seems to be par for
the course with Rory, what what do you take from
today from him as it looks like he's gonna be
on the wrong side of the cut line by a
shot despite the spectacular Gulf today. Well, this is his
(20:01):
lowest second round at the Open and ever for him. Uh,
So that should tell everyone that he's got some fine
in him um, that he didn't let yesterday's round define
him at this year's open um. So yeah, you know,
it's tough that he started out the way he did
with that eight on his opening hole. UM. He's been
(20:24):
vocal about trying to not let winning or what he
shoots and where he is the world ranking define him.
That's been kind of his mantra this year, emotionally and mentally. UM.
And I think that's fine. UM. But I I do
think if you keep saying it's not an issue, I'm
not nervous, I'm not putting pressure on me. Where you're
(20:46):
subconscious is saying, oh my gosh, the open is here
for the first time in sixty eight years in my
home country in Northern Ireland, and I'm the best golfer
from Northern Ireland. You know that. I feel like maybe
he should embrace it more. It's like, hey, you know
what I got, I gotta, I gotta make sure that
I'm ready. Emotionally, I gotta, I gotta. I gotta embrace
the pressure instead of deflecting it, because you know, I
(21:08):
feel like he felt that on the first see because
he is carrying his country on his shoulders. I was
saying this Todd before you came on with us to
start the show, that this is my least favorite tournament,
not just not because of the golf or anything like
that as far as any of the majors. But here's why. Aesthetically,
I've always noticed that the European courses for the Open Championship,
(21:28):
they just look kind of bare. There's no buildings around,
there's no trees, there's no And that's just me being
a nerdy. It's got to look good in order for
me to be really interested in it. Thing. It has
nothing to do with the golf of the quality of
the golf or anything like that. But which is your
favorite tournament to go to and course? And which is
your least favorite? Wow? I mean that's that's tough. I mean,
(21:52):
you're as to be like to pick my favorite movie.
Let me let me need to send your argument about
the a do we still have? Todd? He was he
was about to he was going to defend my argument
and I was gonna get defended by by by an
expert on the golf. You know what this is? This
is the Gulf Gods. Oh my goodness, this is this
(22:16):
is the Gulf Gods. You know, Todd's got a lot
going Todd, are you still there? I'm still here. I'm
actually rolling through the hills. I'm rolling through the hills
and the mountains and see the cattle of the sheep
here in Northern Ireland. That's why I lost it. You
literally you said you were about to defend Jonas is
point and then it cut off right at that point.
(22:38):
Make me feel better about my question, Todd jon Jonas,
have you ever been to an Open? No, I went
to the US Open, but I've never been to the
Open Championship. All right, So here I would say this
about the Open. This is the this is the most
beautifully earthy, warm major championship of them all. Um, there's
(23:01):
a little bit, uh, well you've been watching this week,
We've had beautiful Yeah. Oh he's cutting out. I want
I want to hear the answer that this is a
really good answer. I know. This is David Duval's Duval's
(23:23):
fourteen from yesterday. This is I'm just saying this. All
the questions were Birdie, Birdie, parr, and then all of
a sudden we had the bad connection. You know what,
let's uh, Todd, Todd's going to be moving around were
we actually are just out of time with him anyway,
But well, at least your point in your case, which
I completely disagree with, but at least it gets to
(23:44):
stand on its own merits, with Louis saying, hey, I'm
going to defend your but is there any course that
you don't like? Is there any course you look at
and go, I'm just not into this? There are there
are courses that when you play that don't fit your
either or some that you're just like just yeah, that
looks kind of weird that the Links course a lot,
(24:05):
you know, a lot of the the open Rota Um
most of them are on the shores, so you're gonna
get you know, you're gonna have the sea there what
you do at Royal Port Rush. But there aren't a
lot of holes that are sea side, so that's something
that's different. But Links Golf has no trees. That's the
wind is the defense on those courses. That's the reason
(24:26):
the green speeds are also so slow. And maybe it's
because I played Golden Tea growing up and everything seemed
like there was an obstruction, obstructed view and you had
to go through trees. Maybe that's what I was used to. Well,
you know you are, as you said, you've been to
the US Open before, so yeah, so there's your that's
actually I think the last time we spoke with Todd
was at Oakmont at the US Open. Yeah, I mean,
anything Oakmont related, just let me know. That's what I do.
(24:49):
I will. I will wrap up with this. I actually
think and this maybe golf guy saying this the golf
guy in me. I really think that the leaderboard is intriguing.
I'm intrigued to see brooks Kepka trying to come from behind.
Lee Westwood is in the Hunts talk about a career rejuvenation.
Justin Roses there, Jordan's speed is only three shots back
(25:12):
after playing some awful golf this season. So there's a
lot for me to be excited about this weekend, even
though Tiger is not gonna be there, Rory's not gonna
be there in Phills night Care. You not not take
the lazy approach Dan and say, no Tiger, I'm out, God,
is this good for golf. He's he's ninety years old, man,
he's gonna be gone sooner or later, and start to
(25:33):
embrace some of these other guys. Just don't watch the
sport sooner or later. You gotta turn the keys over
to somebody else to say, all right, it's yours. It
was I I sent out a tweet Jonas that went
viral yesterday. Um, I think one retweeting nine mints that
if you're wondering why Twitter was down, you're welcome because
(25:53):
the point that I made was for everybody saying, man,
Tiger's just too old. Tigers been old, like like April
was the odd of the April wasn't the norm. What
he did at the Masters, he had taken. He had
worked so hard to try to build up, and just
because he competed at the p g A and then
cashing at the Masters. I think there are people who thought,
like Jonas, nobody even mentioned six is sixteenth major. They
(26:17):
were already saying when's he gonna get to nineteen and
beat Jack? Like like that's like how fast people were
moving on with it. It's just like, no, you're the problem.
You're the reason why you're disappointed because you have these
expectations for Tiger that just were unrealistic. All right, he's
Dan Buyer. I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio.
You can get me on Twitter at the Jonas Knox

a true car to enjoy a more confident car buying experience. Um,
are you ready to park the NBA car for a
couple of months in the garage? Like, just let it
(27:23):
sit there, put the cover on it. Well, we're about
to do it, but we're gonna polish it up and
then we'll put the cover on and back it in
because there is an NBA story that we want to
tell you about in Jonas, get ready for this. The
Lakers feel like they got played Yeah yeah, yeah, by
(27:44):
the one and only Kauai Leonard, if you don't believe me.
Brian Windhorse was on the Hoop Collective podcast and had
this to say on how the Lakers feel about Kauai's
free agency quest. The one crazy thing is, you know,
I've heard complaints in the days after the signing, complaints
from the Lakers that they got played her, complaints from
the Raptors that you know that Kauai came in and
(28:07):
asked for the sun, the moon, the stars, and then
left him at the altar. Poor Lakers, Poor Lakers. We
know we didn't get we wanted this time, we didn't give, Like,
how many more things do you possibly need as a franchise,
How many more great players do you possibly need? You
miss out on one guy and then you bitch and
moan after the fact because he didn't want to sign
(28:29):
with you. Sorry, get your act together, don't be a
turd filled diaper the last six years, and maybe guys
will want to play for you more consistently. Good God,
they have more advantages than any of the twenty nine
other teams in the NBA. Yes, and and and it's
it's not even fair if you were to include the
NFL and Major League baseball. How many other teams and
(28:50):
every other sport has more advantages than the Lakers, the Yankees.
That's it. That's it. That's literally it. And maybe the
Cowboys now actually even the Cowboys, No, not even the Cowboys.
That's it. Out of out of ninety teams, they have
it better than all but eight nine. That it's insane,
(29:11):
It is absurd. And to hear, first of all, what
they even done any scouting. All they've been doing is
just giving contracts away and bringing people in. I mean
like it's they who were who were they going to
get that they missed out on because they had been
waiting for Kauai. I would love to know. I would
love to know answer who was out there? Let's see,
(29:34):
was it Ennis Cantor maybe Ennis cantor? Um, let's see
who else is Brian Shaw still around? Said league in
our ear Usually I don't give the producer credit. Um,
but since I disagree with me, I'm gonna throw HM
under the bus. And he said, Jimmy Butler, Jimmy Butler
was gone anyway, he was going. He was going to Miami.
He wants he wants to be done by the end
(29:55):
of April and have his own show. So that's why
he went like, there's nobody the air. There was nobody
that the Lakers were going to bring in. It's it's
just absurd to sit there, you know, I'm if I hope,
I hope he did play them. I hope he did.
It's like, you know what, the pretty girl in high
school that gets all the perks, guess what she got
stood up by the valedictorian who went with the the
(30:19):
other smart girl. That's what happened. Sorry, you were smitten
by the kid in math club. Should have stuck to
the football players like, I don't know what to tell you.
You got burned. That's life. Deal with it, and guess what.
This whole we feel like we got played. Every team
that loses a free agent feels like, at some point
or another, they probably got played. That's just business. That's
the way this goes. Like a team is interested in
(30:41):
you or they want to keep you, and then you
decide to go somewhere else. They're probably thinking along along
those lines at wow, I thought we really had something here.
I thought you were happy, and all of a sudden
they left. That's just the way this works. It's business.
I find it. I find it amazing and and hey
maybe it was Magic Johnson leaking that, who knows. But
if the Lakers got played tough balls, tough ball, oh
(31:04):
my god, you gotta settle for Anthony Davis and seventeen
titles or whatever the health number of titles. Here. You've
got Lebron James and Anthony Davis. We should all play
the violins for the Lakers who just don't get what
they want all the time. My god, you think they
would be this outraged if he didn't choose to play
in the same building, But not for them. If you
would if you're a state in Toronto, maybe not as outraged, Like,
(31:26):
come on, how many times? How many times over the
years have the Clippers been the gum on the shoe
of the Lakers and that they just scrape off before
they walk into some place, And now they finally land
somebody because they're the organization that's got their you know
what together, and they're the organization that's not dysfunctional, and
guys are looking around going, oh wait, that is an option.
(31:46):
We can go play in l A with all the
perks in the building and everything else and not have
to deal with the craft that's been floating around there
for the last six years. I mean, come on, it's
ridiculous deal. All right. He's Dan Buyer, I'm Jonas knox

trade in your car, check out truecr True Cash Offer
not available in all areas. Isaac Lowcron is here. Hello Isaac,
Hello Dan, Hello Jonas, Hi Isaac. What do we got today? Psychic? Alright,
(33:32):
let's start since the British Open is going on right
now with round two headed towards Open Championship on Open
Championship the o C. I'm just thinking, I mean, would
we call the US Open here the Open Championship or
(33:55):
how does that go? Know? What we call it the
British Open to decipher from our US Open rest of
the world calls at the Open Championship. So yes, all right, psychics,
Will Tiger Woods win another major? And if so, when, Jones?
What do you see? Okay? I have got the crystal
(34:16):
ball in front of me, and it was a little
foggy at first, and then now it's starting to clear up,
and I am saying no, no, I am saying, and
I'm seeing that Tiger Woods will win another major, but
he might not. Interesting, Now we need an exact date. Okay,
(34:38):
I'm going to say sometime between July two thousand, nineteen
and the end of time. Interesting. Interesting. I you know what,
I've got my own crystal ball that I brought in.
I do not see him another major win in his future.
And I think what we had an April is going
to end up being Jack Nick This is win at
(35:01):
the Masters in eighty six, it's gonna be Tiger in nineteen.
I just find it's gonna be very, very difficult for
him to UH to win again, Dan asked me, and
I will uh. And in honor of Jack Nicholas winning
the the Masters in six, ask me whether or not
Tiger Woods won the Masters in two thousand nineteen. Uh
(35:23):
Jonas did Tiger Woods with the Masters in twenty nineteen. Maybe, yes, sir,
I knew it was coming because I'm psychic. I didn't
quite know where he was going with that one, but
it was worth the way. I love vern Man. Alright,
one last again, and I think I brought this up
(35:43):
last up. Sorry, Verne stole that from Ben right, that's
what I heard. Yes, So Ben Wright did it like
two holes earlier, and Verne ended up using it. And
it's like, all right, Vern, it's yours. You know, you
know Verne said to your comment just now, Dan, what
did he say? Bless his hard He's got to be
the sickest man in America. By the way, do you
(36:04):
guys know that there's a true story that stealing is
a way that Verne met his his wife because he
was at a He was at a Dallas area nightclub
and he sees the woman who he would later go
on to Mary. She was there on a on a
date with another gentleman, and the gentleman recognized Verne lund
(36:26):
Quiz because he was a TV anchor in Dallas, called
him over and introduced him. They're talking for a while,
the guy goes over, goes to use the restroom, and
Vern says, so, how long have you been going out
with this guy? And she says it's our first date
and Vern says, oh, so what are you doing this weekend?
And the rest was History City. Good for you, Vern,
(36:50):
so ben right, maybe not the angriest of people out
there at Vern. All right, we'll tie up the NBA
season the upcoming NBA season this way, psychics. I want
each of you to give me two of the matchups
on the NBA's Christmas schedule, huge showcase Day and night
for the NBA. Give me two matchups when the schedule
(37:11):
comes out that we're gonna see on Christmas Day in
the NBA? Okay, is it? How many games? Is there five?
I'm just saying there's five total games? All right, let
me think about this. I'm gonna go Lakers Clippers is one,
and geez um rocketsund Okay, alright, I'm gonna go Rockets Clippers,
(37:42):
and I will go Buck Sixers. I even left the
Lakers out of it, all right, I go Nets Nicks
maybe something like that. But there you have a guys,
I just don't know if they put both l a
teams against each other. You know, at one point you
can get double windows. Because I'm trying, I'm thinking about drama,
(38:02):
like what would be the most drama. So that's that's
why I went that route. This is game time on
the Dug got Leap Show. It is at Doug got
Leap Show here on Fox Sports Radio. He is Dan Buyer.
I am Jonas knocks Up next the End of an
Era here on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Doug got Leap Show weekdays at
(38:24):
noon eastern three pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio app. Glad to have you with
us on this Friday. If it was Saturday, Tiger Woods
and Phil Mickelson could maybe join us, same with Rory McElroy,
because they did not make the cut of the Open Championship.
I wish they would have. I do. I wish they
would have been in contention. But I do like this
leader board. Even though I don't think there's gonna be
(38:46):
a lot of people who are clamoring to wake up
early and watch the action at Royal Port Rush without
those big three names, but I still think that there
is there is a lot of great storylines at the
top of that leaderboard. Now, let me because I love
having this conversation because, and maybe this is just a
selfish conversation, but it's one that everybody can relate to.
I love talking about time zones and weather. All Right,
(39:06):
Big NERD, Big Weather NERD three sixty two on direct TV.
That's the channel. If you're looking forward, Dan, I know
you're in the market for the the weather channel on
direct TV channel three sixty two. It is. But I
love having the conversation about time zones because if you
talk to anybody back east who watches the NFL, they
don't understand how great it is to watch the NFL
(39:26):
on the West Coast until they do it, and then
all of a sudden they go, God, this is awesome.
Last year in Hawaii and August watching Ohios. Who did
Ohio State open up the season with? Was it? It
wasn't Maryland? Was it? No? Ohio State opened up the
season last year, so years ago they opened on a
Thursday in the end. Last year they opened up against two.
(39:47):
Ohio State opened up last year against It'll it'll come
to you. But the point being, I remember watching them
and other games at six in the morning in Hawaii
and thinking to myself, this is just the best thing
on the planet. This is the most amazing thing in
the world, because they were three hours behind. So that
being said in the reason I bring it up, this
(40:09):
tournament is all the way over in Ireland. What time
is this tournament starting each day? And are you Dan,
an avid golf guy, up at that hour to watch
the beginning of the tournament. We were lucky enough because
of being on the West Coast, and there's there's pluses
and minuses, advantages and disadvantages for us on the West
(40:29):
Coast with the Open Championship. It starts Wednesday night. So
the previous two nights I was in with Jason Smith
on the Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon and we're
doing the show. In the opening t shot was hit.
So you're you're watching it at Wednesday night and what
is six thirty local time? And it's actually one of
the neat things about the Open because of the amount
(40:51):
of daylight that they have. They don't have to go
off split teas off the first hole in the tenth
hole with two waves. They just send every out on
the first hole and can do it all day long.
There's guy's teaming off at four o'clock in the afternoon
for their final runds. So it's just constant throughout the day.
So I was able to stay up and in my
in my earlier years, I would be able to get
(41:14):
up a lot earlier because I lived in a different
time zone within the Central time Zone. But I would
get up and then watch the action, like starting at
three or four in the morning, and then go through
the rest of the morning and then try to catch
up on sleep. So now, first tea on Saturday, is it?
What time tomorrow? Will probably tee off. It'll start a
little bit later because there aren't as many players, but
(41:35):
they'll probably tee off. I would say it's some probably
at one o'clock Pacific, probably four o'clock Eastern time in
the morning. Yeah, it's somewhere somewhere around there. Are you
getting up for that? Are not for those guys? Not
for those guys. I'll get up for the leaders. I'll
get up tomorrow, which on the West coast will be
about I'd say probably about five o'clock because they're about
eight hours ahead. The leaders will go out that around
(41:55):
you know, five or six o'clock in the morning time.
The moral of the story is, and the big question
here is are you going to be dragging ass for
your Sunday show with Nick? I? Honestly, I'm right now.
I am very tired, and I hope it's not. I
hope it's not coming off. But I got home last
night after the show, watched did it on on Wednesday,
(42:17):
and the Thursday, went to bed at about one thirty.
But because I was in last night, ended up it
was fine. I ended up watching golf last night. I
was pretty tired, sat down on the couch and was
watching put my head down and zons and then I
woke up about an hour later, and so then I
went to bed and I got up this morning to
watch the action. Unfortunately missed most of tiger Woods is around,
(42:39):
but I don't think I missed much. What do you
mean he's playing Saturday and the Sunday right That is
not the case. Now. I didn't make the cut Oregon State,
by the ways, who Ohio State was? Last season? The
Tiger Woods story at Royal Port Rush lasted only thirty
six holes. He is not going to make the cut,
finishing at US six, well off the cut line after
(43:02):
a one under round of seventy today, just for reference sake,
in the one hundred and fifty six player field, Tiger
right now is the final players are wrapping up in
a time for one and nineteen. That is not the
story the story, As Jonas mentioned, and we've been talking
about his Tiger is not playing the weekend. Tiger had
more to the story as well after his round today
when he spoke to reporters after missing the cut. I
(43:24):
just want some time off, just to get away from it.
Had a long trip to uh to Thailand and then
try to get ready for this event, play this event.
It's been on a lot of travel, a lot of
time in the air, a lot of moving around and
different hotels and everything. I just wanted to fun to
go home. Why didn't you just go home? That's your home?
Are you too for your home? Okay, alright, it's just
(43:48):
so I'm gonna need to mock the guy. He just
got embarrassed in one of his you know, it could
be one of his last tournaments of his career, and
we're playing like making a joke of him. John Ramos
goes to leave and have a baby, and now it's
all chaos over there with Lee and Ryan's just dropping
the happy Gilmore. Here's the here's the real question Tiger
to employ between the US Open and the Open Championship. Obviously,
(44:09):
he mentioned his trip that he took with his family
to Thailand, and I think that's I don't think there
there are people who are going to blame Tiger Woods
for wanting to take a family trip to Thailand, right.
I mean, who doesn't want to go to Thailand and
watch Muay Thai fighting, honest to God, and in like
those little bird bird cages where they've got fights and
you can gamble on them, and there's chickens hanging from
(44:29):
the ceiling and guys are just destroying each other in
the legs. Who doesn't want to see that? Nobody's nobody's
got nobody's gonna say don't take your kids on a vacation.
No one's gonna say that. That's but the reality is
is where Tigers is in his life, the less golf
that he plays, the better. But I'm not sure that
(44:50):
a trip to Thaimeland was better for Tiger at that time.
You have now got a stretch where the PGA Tour
season is gonna be wrapping up and you're gonna have
the FedEx Cup playoffs, and honestly, it's not that that's
not a big deal to Tiger. Majors are still a
big deal. But for him to be run down now
(45:10):
while also taking a trip is one of those head
scratches for the simple fact of as he said, no
one's gonna blame him, but Tiger Woods doesn't do that
when he's twenty five years old. He doesn't do that
when he's thirty years old. Now he's obviously life has changed,
but also at that time he was so strictly focused
on golf in being who he was that now his
(45:31):
priorities have changed, and that's why I think our expectations
of Tiger Woods also have to change. There was and
this is gonna be a weird parallel, but I think
it applies in this regard. So a lot of people
were critical of the w w E and how they
booked some of their events over the past couple of
years because he kept bringing guys back like the Undertaker,
clearly not anywhere close to what he was before, but
(45:54):
they had to do it because it's a name and
people recognize it, and then they're bringing guys back like
John Cena who's basically a full time actor at this point,
you know, it's not really still a guy who people
you know look at and want to see and see constantly.
But they're doing it because they're Okay, well, he's a
big name and he's a draw, and maybe you can
bring him some other some other fans or whatnot. And
(46:15):
the big criticism was, why aren't you trying to push
other other guys on the roster or other athletes on
the roster and start to transition and pass the torch
a little bit. These people that that are demanding so
much at a Tiger Woods while he's not he's not
playing the weekend, I'm not gonna watch. I need Tiger.
I need You need to come to grips with the
reality that it's time to pass the torch and it's
(46:38):
time to start getting and rallying around other players on
the tour because how many more years is Tiger woulds
have left on the tour period. There's a few like
I don't see Tiger grinding ten years from now. I
don't know shot and and does he strike you as
the personality that wants to go play the senior to
it all? So then you need to at least come
(46:59):
to terms with the idea, uh that this whole thing's
winding down. He gave you a great weekend in Augusta.
It was awesome, People were emotional and it was phenomenal.
But at some point, this constant demand on if he's
not there, I don't care one it's lazy too. It's
unrealistic to expect that out of a guy at his age.
(47:19):
I also think it's tough too, where people you have
to start appreciating what you're watching, like we're so star driven,
like the n b A is. You know, now there's
the topic of conversation of of the as great as
free agency as Jonas. These players aren't staying with teams,
so maybe you're not being as attached. There's obviously no
teams engulf but instead of appreciating just the player like
(47:42):
you do in the NBA, and you want to start
appreciating the team, appreciate the sport, or appreciate what is
going on. I mean, if Brooks kept go wins this again,
if if he wins this tournament, there's there are very
few players that have gone on the run that that
can match what Brooks UPco would have matched and there's
something that you can latch onto of just watching him.
(48:04):
As they said, there are great, great stories. And if
you if you don't want to spend every weekend watching golf,
that's fine, but at least appreciate what some of the
talent is doing and some of the talent that was
ushered in because of what Tiger Woods did. And it's
it's tough when you've got such a standalone guy who
was who was as big as he is and is
for as great as Jack and Arnie and those guys
(48:24):
where no one was a bigger star than Tiger. That's
tough to replace. But at least appreciate the golf. And also,
and we've said this before, and I don't care if
he wins another major or not. For me my opinion,
he's the best golfer I've ever seen. I've never seen
anybody better. People can point to how many, how many majors?
How you know Jack's got this alright? Great for me
(48:44):
my opinion, he's the best ever. I don't need to
see him do anymore. The fact that he is showing
up I think should be good enough. I mean, you
know his resume, you know what he's done. The opportunity
to get to watch that guy is amazing. The Michael
Jordan's last year at the Wizards. Look, we can all
sit there and say, oh my god, he was just
a shell of what he was, or you can say, oh,
(49:06):
that's the greatest player of all time. I'd like to
just go and enjoy what I'm watching, like to to
constantly demand that he's got to do this because it's
better for the sport, and I'm not interested in if
he doesn't look at the age, look at the resume,
be realistic about what we have, you're also setting yourself
up for failure if you're expecting greatness person that he
(49:26):
comes out there, because there's no way that he can
live up to it. I mean, you know, for for
Phil Mickelson, I mean Phil has really kind of been
one of the rare guys to do it. And Phil
doesn't have the back issues that Tiger Woods has had
and the surgeries he's had fills in some other health issues,
but he's been able to navigate. But there aren't many guys,
you know, Jim Furicks still out there playing with Jim
(49:48):
Furicks not winning majors. There's to to to play and
to be competitive in your forties, and golf has been really,
really difficult, and in this era was so much young talent,
and with the life span of your greatness and golf
becoming shorter and shorter because of the great young talent.
Just appreciate what you've got. The one off was in
(50:08):
April with the Masters. That's not the norm. Who's your
favorite Seattle Seahawk of all time? Is this Steve Largent? No, okay,
favorite Seattle Sea of all time? Well, Dave Craig obviously
for for because he's the reason I'd like to see hawks.
If somebody told you, hey, um, Dave Craig is competing
in a seven on seven tournament and it's right up
(50:30):
the road here at that little golf castle, that miniature
golf course and they're doing a little seven on seven
tournament and the parking lot. Are you gonna go? No,
he's a shallow What he wants was are you like
the first person in lyning to go? I want to
see Dave Craig football around? Like why can't you just
enjoy it? Man? Why why does it have to be
a major and he's got to win, and like, why
(50:51):
can't you just sit back and go this is awesome. Okay,
so I didn't get to see and win, but at
least i'm here in person. I I don't understand that
thought process. And if Dave Greg wasn't throwing up the street,
but John Freese was, yeah, and Warren Moon Dan McGuire,
there was a lot of throwing with him. But the
point being a little Rick Meyer he could yeah, I
(51:13):
could use that one. Oh man, uh, I got some
and they were in a lot of good memories with
Rick Meyer. But try growing up with Peter Tom Willis
Bow all right, yes see, you think you know a
quarterback pain, try growing up with Mike Tom Zack. Okay,
like try that on Yeah, I knew that, all right.
He's Dan Buyer. I am Jonas Knox in for Doug

to talk to you again. How are you. I'm doing well, Jason.
We're not going to bring up the Orioles once this
entire segment. I can probably I won't be mad at
you if you do. Man, we're taking the long view
around here. I'm not gonna upsets about today or tomorrow's

(52:40):
We have a running calendar in here, and it's been
four thousand, three d and twenty one days since we've
spoken about the Orioles. So yeah, that's you could probably
My guess is you could probably tag another thousand on
the uh uh Jason lacafora joining us here on Fox
Sports Radio. Let's start out with the big news of
(53:01):
the day. Is this a softer NFL now that we
know that as of right now, Tyreek Hill is not
going to receive any punishment for the league following those
child abuse allegations. I don't I don't know how I
would couch it, to be honest with you, UM, I
can just tell you that based on what was sort
of out there in the public in terms of, uh,
(53:25):
what was said by the district attorney at the press conference,
and what was revealed of that audio um that was
released by the Kansas City television station, and what was
known about his past criminality and what he had pled
to in the past. That there was, you know, and
then looking at it through the prism of what the
(53:46):
league has generally done in terms of the personal Conduct
policy as it applies to allegations of spousal or child abuse.
There was certainly an expectation among other front officers and
aunt we Um within the Chiefs Front office for at
least a period of time that something was coming now
(54:07):
we also know that through these cases, um, their their
confidentiality laws, there's privacy. We're talking about the safety and
well being of a of a three year old, you know,
human being. You've got social services involved. So the league
was ultimately going to have to make a decision at
some point based on what would be a lack of
ideal evidence, and they obviously huddle up with their lawyers
(54:31):
and training camps are about to start, and look, we
got to determine this guy's status one way or the other.
So they basically are saying sort of like what the
d A said, something happened here, We're not exactly positive
of what. For now, we've got to let this guy
start doing his job again. But if we hear anything else,
you know, we've got the right to change on a dime. Uh.
(54:51):
It's it's the whole situation is is just terrible. Um. Unfortunately,
I don't think people are talking much about the children, um,
you know, whether the twins or or or this uh,
this youngster. And you just hope that that they come
out of this okay. And obviously the authorities there are
watching that situation closely. Um that that's been a toxic
(55:13):
relationship and and I don't know that anybody knows where
it's going. But yes, I'm surprised that he got nothing. UM.
I'm not surprised though, that it wasn't eight or ten
games or something like that, because based on what the
league would say, it had actual you know, uh, an
actual got its hands like what it actually got his
hands on. In these situations, you're you're never going to
(55:36):
have everything you'd like to have at your disposal to
make a decision like this. Jason looking Forward joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio covers the NFL for CBS Sports,
Jonas knocks Dan Buyer and for Doug gott Leevier on
Fox Sports Radio. Say, and I'm just throwing out just
a number here, but say he did get they found
that there was enough there to warrant a suspension for
(55:56):
two games. How would the Chiefs have handled it? Would
they have cut him? No, I think they would have.
I think that the Chiefs would have rolled with with whatever, um,
whatever the league handed down. I don't think the Chiefs
had any inclinations of of releasing him. I think that
became pretty clear through how they handle the situation through
the spring. The statements Andy Reid and others made and
(56:17):
just you know, through their actions, which was basically, you know,
paying him to stay away while this all got sorted out. Um,
I mean at the time, I mean just stepping out
of professional sports, just looking at it as a human being.
At the time, the child was removed from the from
from the parents custody, and he was granted no visitation
(56:38):
rights at that point by the state. To me, that
was sort of the cup day time, you know what
I mean, that was kind of gonna be the litmus
test of how much are they gonna stand by their man,
how much won't they because even again at that point,
they're saying, we don't know exactly what happened here, but
they did make some actions and they did basically preclude
his ability to see the child for a period of time. Um.
(56:59):
And a lot of people again fought based on that alone,
and based on what he was caught on tape saying,
and based on um, you know, the heinous acts that
were committed when he was in college that he has
pled guilty too. I know, now he's sort of intimating
that he didn't do that, but he we can only
go by the legal record, right, he pled guilty to
(57:21):
a heinous attack that it would it would constitute at
least a few games, but but it obviously didn't. You know.
One more on this is Jacob Jason Latin for joins
us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show. He's Jonas Knocks.
I'm Dan Buyer. Jonas and I talked about this at
the beginning and with what you know in Baltimore. I
felt that the ray Rice situation of the two games
(57:43):
suspension and then the video comes out and then all
hell breaks loose actually precluded the NFL from wanting to
ever do that again. Like, I think it's better for
them to to to stay put and then if something
does come out later then they have an opportunity to
to respond to it. Do you think that situation played
into this no action at all today? I mean, I'm
(58:06):
I'm sure when they're sitting down with lawyers, and let's
face it, this is basically an hr thing, like you're
taking um uh an action against someone's career, and you
need to make sure that at least to the best
you can determine, you're on the most solid legal footing
for taking away this person's ability to do their job
for something that they're now claiming, you know that they're
they're claiming they didn't do Um. There's a lot of
(58:27):
layers to it. It's a lot to sort through. It's
it's complicated, and I'm sure they called that they harken
back to some of the other instances where we did
do this, we didn't do that, and how did that
work out? And where we right or you know, should
we have waited longer? Um? But I think the the again,
another one of these parts where it's not resonating with
(58:47):
everybody around the league, was you know, you mentioned ray
Rice and Bottomore. You also have a situation with Jimmy
Smith and Baltimore where he was suspended for making verbal threats,
you know, against his partner. So you know, and again
I don't know whether it's admissible legally or not the
way he was recorded, but I had never yet to
hear Tyreek kilsay. That wasn't my voice on that recording.
(59:09):
I didn't say that. Was it totally in context? Out
of context? Did we hear the whole tape everything that
was said that night? You know, that's a different animal.
But based on that alone and the personal Personal Conduct
policy gives the league a very wide swath. You could say, Hey,
he's getting a couple of games because of that threat
and because of the climate that was going on there,
(59:31):
and we can make it more if we find out more,
which is essentially what they'd said today, just minus any
discipline in the short term. He is Jason looking for
CBS Sports NFL reporter joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Jason,
you have a column up at CBS sports dot Com.
Came out a short time ago talking about the Cowboys
and Ezekiel Elliott and that situation and what may end
(59:54):
up being a surprise to some people based on some
of the coverage this week. Yeah, I don't think it's
a dire is it's being portrayed. I don't think he
is as as close to being as stuck in on
the idea of missing game checks and and and you know,
having a um, you know, a protracted long hold out
as some are are positing. And they also don't think
(01:00:16):
that things are totally sideways or you know that he's
getting zero respect from the Cowboys and that they they
had and that they're just ignoring him while their deal
with Dak Prescott and Byron Jones and and you know
Marii Cooper and all the mouth they have to feed there.
I hear quietly things are going in a pretty good direction.
And while no one's intimating that they're close to anything,
(01:00:37):
there's at least been a constructive dialogue. Um. So it's
not like he's being shunned or ostracized. He knows how
much they've stood by him, the lench to which Jerry
Jones has stood by him through the various ups and
downs of his brief career, and Jerry at the end
of the day, has had a history of rewarding his
best players. I don't think he's getting the Pod Gurley deal. Um.
(01:01:00):
I don't believe, as in the cards, a five or
six year mega deal that resets the running back market.
But I think they they and and the Chargers in
Melvin Gordon as well, if they get a little bit creative,
can find a two or three years solution to the
problem that lets the player get another butt at the
apple on the right side of thirty and put more
money in his pocket today, but also doesn't leave the
team on the hook if there's an off field issue
(01:01:22):
in the case of Elliott or you know, the continual
sort of battling the injuries, as Melvin Gordon has had
too through his career. Jason, why did dialogue breakdown this
week between the NFL and players Union? They were supposed
to be talking for a few days. Yeah, I don't.
I don't know that I would say it broke off.
They've got more sessions scheduled. Everything I've heard to this
point has been more overtly positive, especially for being so
(01:01:47):
early in the process that I can ever remember it
covering labor relations in any sport, not just the NFL,
but I'm enough covered baseball, covered hockey. For them to
be so far away from the conclusion of the c
b A and to have made as much headways they've
already made. Um, I think speaks volumes, and they're going
to be bumps in the road. There's gonna be times,
for one reason or another that one side decides, Hey,
(01:02:07):
instead of spending another two days talking to you guys,
let's talk and caucus amongst ourselves because maybe we're not
where we thought we were on that position, and we'll
get back to you. Um. But again, the momentum is there.
There's a willingness of both sides to see that now
is not the time to kill the golden goose, and
at the end of the day, I don't think they will.
I believe they'll get something done. Um. I don't know
(01:02:28):
that happens before the season and then during the season
there's so much other stuff going on. But I've heard
since the combine that there was a real sense that
something could be completely signed, sealed, and delivered. And I
still think that's viable. Jason, I wanted to ask you
before I let you go, because I know you're in
and around the Baltimore, d C. Area there, so you
know what's going on with the Ravens better than anybody.
(01:02:51):
What is the feeling they're heading into this season with
Lamar Jackson? Is there some concern over you know what
we saw in the playoff game. They were booing him
there at that game. What is the vibe they're heading
into camp within the organization or just living in this area,
the what's in the air in the sort of fans
like within the organization that they're all about him. Everything
(01:03:14):
they've done holistically as an organization has been to build
him up. Um that they take more time out of
their practice to work on the minutia of passing than
i've ever seen at the pro level. Um, the whole system,
everything is going to be catered to him. The way
they reinvented that offense. Last year, he was the only
quick twitch guy on the field and that offense most
of the time. Now he's got like four or five
(01:03:35):
of them. And if Hayden Hurston stay healthy, last year's
first round pick, that's another one. So all that is
he's the man. They know, he's the man. They're all
in on Lamar and he has become the leader in
the face of that offense almost overnight around the city.
It's weird, man, Um, there's still a lot of people
who whether it's because Flacco want as much as he
(01:03:56):
did or whatever, there's a large segment of this city
that has it that's either ignored it or it just
hasn't embraced it for whatever reason, because it's so different,
because it's so run based, because you know, he does
he's not the traditional quarterback, and he's so different from
the last guy who did it. But it's been odd
to me, Like I think back to when Mike Vick
(01:04:17):
burst on the scene in Atlanta and how that became
an immediate sort of galvanizing thing for that city and
that fan base. This just even despite what that kid did,
which was pretty exceptional, he saved a lot of jobs,
saved the season. There is a large segment of people
here who either are still nonbelievers or just aren't paying
attention yet. Find them on Twitter at Jason lackinfora read
(01:04:38):
them on CBS Sports dot com, and you can see
him on CBS Sports NFL reporter Jason. Have a great weekend,
and uh yeah, We're gonna do this more often, so
get used to it sounds good. It's that time of here.

He is Dan Buyer. I'm Jonas Knox in for Doug

(01:05:22):
I'm Dan Buyer. Jim Harbaugh, the Michigan coach at it again.
If you missed his comments from the podcast with Tim Kama.
Why am I getting Tim Kawakami? Yes, get his name writer,
I'll tell block you on hitter Dan, I follow him.
I I hope that he doesn't block me. Tim Kawakami's podcast.
(01:05:44):
This is what Jim Harbaugh had to say about urban
Meyer and his time in college football. Meyers had a
winning record, really phenomenal record everywhere has been but also
controversy follows other words been. Okay, so that was the
That was the big thing that made headlines yesterday. So
today at Big ten Media Days, because all the kind
(01:06:05):
of sec needs four days, the big tent tings two
days to do their thing, Jim Harbaugh had a chance
to respond to the comments that he made about urban
Meyer on that podcast. No context. You should know by that.
I don't think it was anything that was anything new
or anything of a bombshell. It's things that that many
of you all have understand and have written about. Okay,
(01:06:29):
Now I have a biased view, so I'm going to
lean on you for this. You hear those comments what
strikes you, because then because I want to I want
to know if I'm far off in how I feel
about these. Jim Harbaugh reminds me of the people that
argue Lebron James is the greatest of all time versus
Michael Jordan's because the Michael Jordan argument is easy. Well,
(01:06:50):
six or six in the finals. Done deal, We're done here,
like we don't need to talk about it anymore. Well,
the urban Meyer argument is easy. Yeah, he beat Michigan
every time he played him, and be Jim Harbor every
single time. So what's the counter to that? Yeah, but
what about and uh well what about this? And yeah,
so he went to the finals a bunch of times
with there but his teammates, and so Jim Harbors taking
(01:07:11):
that approach, Yeah, you know he won those games, but
you know everywhere he goes there's stuff that follows him. Look,
if we really want to go into every single program
in sports, you can find something. If we really wanted
to take a deep dive into every program, you could
find something. Urban Meyer has had shady players on his team,
things have happened that have been controversial. I get all that,
(01:07:33):
but this is Jim Harbaugh without saying it trying to
justify why he is the right man for the job
and pay no attention to the win loss record because
at least we're doing things right over here. That's how
I took Yeah, it's classic misdirection, or I'll point out
that so you don't see this. And that's that's how
I felt about the post, because it wasn't as much
(01:07:58):
of him being critical of urban Meyer and the Ohio
State rivalry as much as it was of him maybe
using that as a shield. So if you're an Ohio
State fan, or you're someone who who loves urban Meyer,
loves the bucket there, loves Florida. Heck, he mentioned you know,
wherever you went, controversy follows. I don't remember the controversies
(01:08:20):
that Utah are bowling green. But the point being Jim
Harbaugh was basically trying to distract from his lack of
success at Michigan. And that's and that's what it was.
What it shouldn't be taken personally, But I just I'm
it's amazing because he mentioned the Michael Michael Jordan Lebron debate.
(01:08:43):
There's debates about like where Jim Harbaugh is in the
echelon of of coaches, and to even to even put
him in the in the top three, even with Urban
retired now, I think is a far far strung. See.
I think he's had I think he has it has
been a success at Michigan. But I think the problem is,
and you know this, who who was the the Ohio
(01:09:05):
state coach? Um. I believe he wore glasses and he
was a decent coach, but he could just never beat Michigan.
John Cooper could never beat Michigan. Jim Trustle owned Michigan,
So he's always going to be looked at more favorably
than John Cooper is because of that. Jim Harbaugh, I
don't think that he hasn't been a success at Michigan.
(01:09:26):
I think about where they were before he got there.
He's turned the program around, He's constantly got him on
the run. They're going places, they're having fun, like they've
had success there. The issue is he hasn't had success
in the biggest games, and so now people are looking
at that closer and saying, well, you know, like like
what do we what do we want here? And so
(01:09:46):
him going this direction and taking this avenue, like why
is Irvan or even coming up he's not there anymore.
I mean, and it's almost doesn't almost make it worse.
If he goes in and he beats Ohio eight and
Ryan Day, doesn't it make it even worse because then
it's like, oh, so it was just urban that owned you. Like,
if if Ryan Day in Ohio State beat him, because
(01:10:08):
it's just uh, you know, athletic mismatch like it was
a year ago, then it's like, oh, well, it's just
the program. You would you would think that. But the
alternative is now as oh, you can't beat them, no
matter he's screwed, no matter why, Well they're they're Michigan's
win over Ohio State. The only one that they have
since two thousand three was in the transition year when
(01:10:28):
Luke Fickel ended up having to take over from Jim
Trestle and the program was was in disarray. That was
their only win. I'm not going to criticize Jim Harbaugh
in Michigan for losing a Peach Bowl to Florida. When
you have guys who are like, I'm not gonna plug,
like who cares like like that stuff, I'm not worried
about it. It's it's I know that they were they
were they were the team, and that they were the squad,
(01:10:52):
and that this was this was the Michigan team after
losing the Notre Dame, it was the redemption Tour, and
then they get slaughtered. It's those things that I think
stick up. And with Saban and Dabble having the lock
in the top two spots right now, there's room for
number three. But I think you could make the argument
that Chris Peterson has done a better job and what
(01:11:14):
he has done as a head coach jimbo Fisher Texas
A and m at least as a national championship to
his name, like there are other coaches. I just am
not Harbaugh. Hardball is up there there. They've they've had
good success. But to sit there and as so many
people want to fast track him and put him for
what he's being paid, is also what the level of
good he is is completely off base. Nick Rolovich with Hawaii,
(01:11:36):
I mean, yeah, I hear you. All sorts of just
gets crazy crazy all the major head coaches out there,
well must Champ obviously being one of them, and uh,
you know, but but congratulations though Dan uh usc is
playing UC Davis. As we update you on football from
the West Coast sweet looking forward to look at anything,
(01:11:56):
anything to be Bowl eligible. Right, there's not a lot
of options in the is a western part of the
States to get to get you. You're playing Fresno State
or San Diego State and looking around. Yeah, he's Dan
buy Er. I'm Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here
on Fox Sports Radio. Up next here, Doug is going
to join you because he has thoughts on a developing
(01:12:19):
situation in the NFL. You'll hear from him next on
Fox Sports Radio, The Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Jonas Knox. I'm Dan Buyer sitting in for Doug today.
Today's show is brought to you by True Car and
Sports and Trade can make or break your team. It's
no different when it comes to selling or trading in
your car. You need to make good choices. And with
True Car you've got a star on your roster. So
(01:12:41):
when you're ready to sell a trade in your car,
check out Truecar. True Cash offer not available in all areas.
Doug is out today. That's because he was in on
the Herd for Colin cow Herd. And just because Doug
is out doesn't mean, we're not going to hear something
great from that show or any other on a segment
we like to call and now. So Doug today weighed
(01:13:02):
in on the NFL's decision Jonas to not give any
penalty to Tyreek Hill following their investigation into the child
abuse allegations made against Hill, and I will be completely camp.
When I heard it, I thought, man, he's done with
the Chiefs, especially considering his own background, the guys they've had,
the issues they've worked through. You almost want to credit
(01:13:25):
the NFL for going like, all right, let's find out
what's real and let's find out what's assumed. And since
they can't find anything that's real, they have no choice
other than to let him play football and put in
the line or two about like the investigation is still open.
If more information comes out, we reserve the right to act. Then.
(01:13:49):
I don't think it's a great moment for the National
Football League, but I think it's a good moment for
all of us to take a breath and realize that
charges and accusations are just that. This is this is
the thing that that I think needs to be said.
There are going to be a group of people that
will believe the NFL knows everything, and they think that
(01:14:11):
this is an awful decision. To Doug's point about what
they know is maybe they don't know a lot, but
they can't go forward with whatever they've got. So that's
the position that they're in. And I think that's what's important,
is you can only do what what you know. There
are people who won't believe it, but that's where I
think that the NFL stands today. And I also think
(01:14:32):
and what and one of his points that he was
making is, look, I was guilty of it too, you know,
I thought immediately what had happened, I was guilty of
it too. And I think he is speaking on behalf
of a lot of people who we have to kind
of retrain our brains and our thoughts as to how
the NFL now works, because when when this stuff came out,
(01:14:54):
what was your expecting If I were to if they
were to say, all right, Dan, I want you to guess,
how is Tyreek Kio going to be spending? How many
games will he be suspended? What would you have said?
At least eight? Okay? I would have said, based on
them not having enough evidence, well he'll still get suspended
two games a right. Even if they didn't have enough evidence,
he'll still get suspended two games. But I think that's
(01:15:15):
us thinking like the NFL was thinking in two thousand, fifteen, sixteen,
and seventeen, and maybe that wasn't the right way to think.
You know, Tom Brady getting four games, Zeke getting six
games last year. And I think now the NFL is
starting to starting to pull back and think about things differently,
and because of that, I think we also have to
also start thinking about things differently. I don't think it
(01:15:40):
has anything anything to do with Tyrek's Tyreek Hill's star power. No,
by the way, and I think that there's some people
are saying, well, he's a star, so he's getting a break.
I don't think that has anything to do with it. Look,
he has Is he a great player, Yes, he's unbelievable,
like one of the most gifted athletic, athletically gifted football
players that we've seen in a long long time in
(01:16:02):
the NFL. But if Tyreek kill is walking on the
street somewhere, does anybody run up too much? Does he
have a crowd around him going Tyreek Tyreek? No? And
I don't think anybody knows who he is. I think
I think that that is blown out of proportion. And
and draw the parallels you want to Tom Brady and
and what happened to Ezekiel Elliott? Um? Yeah, just it's
(01:16:24):
not the same. Quarterback is the star position in the NFL.
He's Dan Buyer. I'm Jonah kox In for Doug gott
Leap here on Fox Sports Radio. Up next, more out
of the NFL here on fs are be sure to
catch live editions of The Doug gott Leap Show weekdays
at noon eastern three pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio

(01:16:45):
I say, and John Ramos, But John isn't here today,
but there's there's good news surrounding that. John with his
wife who's about to u to give birth to their
third child, So congratulations. Is he at the hospital right
now or is he just staying with her at home
in case something happens? Um, I think what he did,
he just took the day off of work. She's in
the hospital, but he's just at home watching TV. Okay,
(01:17:08):
that and that that I wouldn't surprise me at all.
Should Should we call him and see if he'll do
the what's up guy like. That's one of his favorite
bits is the what should we call him and see
if we can get to do at the hospital? Yeah,
the bottom of the hour, bottom of the hour in
place of the John rama. Yeah, yeah, that's a good idea. Literally,
(01:17:30):
you have just heard show prep on the so there
it is, so lead the lap. You got that, Mark
donn Our, Ejecutive producer. Today we will call well, John's
probably listening to hear how much we talk about him
now that he's gone, Oh yeah, okay, good. I can't
wait for that. Please answer John, Don't be a d
bag and just answer the phone. Get your priority straight
(01:17:51):
enough with the baby stuff. We're trying to fill a
segment here on Fox Sports Radio. Get your mind right,
in your priority straight. I am. I am not run
on fumes. I'm not gonna say that at all. Just
a little bit tired because the Open Championship throws off
my my schedule just because of the different viewing times.
But I'm excited to watch this weekend, even though there
won't be the big names of Rory McElroy, Phil Mickelson
(01:18:14):
and one Tiger Woods at Royal Port Rush thirty six
sols in the books as you may have heard Isaac say,
but the weekend is here, and I just think that
they're for for golf fans and for those that love golf.
There are plenty of storylines. There are a lot of
great smaller storylines. Lee Westwood going after his first career
major after many many attempts at at claiming one thought
(01:18:37):
to be in the sunset of his career, in the
twilight of his career. Now he's in contention, one shot
off the lead. He got Brooks Kepka in the hunt,
and Jordan's Speech has rediscovered his game this week, So
Jordan's speech could be a threat this weekend. All looking
up at Shane Lawry and JB. Holmes, I'm just impressed.
Tony Fee now is tied for twelve right now and
within striking distance. I am just impressed that he's still
(01:18:59):
able to play golf at or. His ankle fell off
one of the most bizarre injuries I've ever seen in
my life. He's running and his ankle just dislocates off
his legs. I thought it was his shoe when I
first saw it, and it's and I'm like, oh, just
his shoe fell out, And then you realized No, he
(01:19:19):
was putting the ankle back in all of a sudden,
something that wasn't making you queasy now was all of
a sudden. It's like your first time on rollerblades and
and you just couldn't find your balance. I was like, oh,
that's because this fudd is falling off his body. But
it was on a boat. Yeah, not a not a
good look, but he's within striking distance and people just
need to adjust their expectations. Tigers not in it, feels
(01:19:41):
not in it. It's time to grasp onto some new stars.
And it is it golf's fault or is it the
consumer's fault? And I don't mean consumer in that you
love golf, you're a die hard golf fan, you're gonna
be there. But the casual golf fan, whose fault is it?
For them not wanting to grasp bond to some of
these other stars in the sport that we've seen over
(01:20:03):
the basketball. This is my argument is golfs on a
team sport, so you can't compare it to football, in baseball,
in basketball, it's impossible to do. So. Like the comps
in my mind come from, how do you watch tennis?
How do you watch stuff that's individual. And I mean
even even NASCAR, of of just having the individual cars,
(01:20:26):
I think that that is a way that you can
look at it. It's just I think it's I think
it's unfair to compare watching golf two the NFL, even
though Tiger Woods gave you the same excitement as you
would have watching the NFL, you know what I mean,
Like it's it's I just think it's I think it's different.
(01:20:47):
I think it's the same thing with tennis. And we
saw the revival last week with the Nadal Federer match
and then the Wimbledon final between Djokovic and Federer. I'm
sorry we're not watching them in Cincinnati, you know, Like
you know, it takes him to get to the semifinals
of the Grand Slam for us to like really go bonkers.
(01:21:08):
And it's just that's just not the case in baseball,
basketball or football. If Kepta wins historically, whereas the stack
as far as hottest, hottest golfers, I mean, I don't think,
not anywhere near Tiger. But he's on fire. Yeah, And
the debate has always been about Kepta and and now
if why he doesn't perform in regular tour events and well,
(01:21:30):
why would you why why would you know? Like we're
peaking for the regular season, we don't care about the
playoffs like that. Think about that if you were in
the tell the Patriots are like, no, we're good with
having the best record in the regular season and then
completely falling flat to the postseason. Brooks is looking at
it like how you would judge and that's by majors
and I mean I look at what he's done and
(01:21:54):
how he's done it, and there wouldn't be another Like
if he ends up winning this, this would be career
major number five five in two and a half years.
That's an unbelievable stretch to go along with the second
place finishes that he's had in the last couple of
majors that he didn't win. Phil Mickelson's got five for
a career, and Phil has had some close calls, but
Keptico would pull even with him, and that would be
(01:22:16):
that's where you would end up putting him. And I
think that when you've seen the struggles that Rory has had,
even though keptkis have come in a short period of time,
there's some want to maybe put him past Rory. I
just think when Rory's on like there's there's there's no
one better. And I think you saw that today with
the sixty five even though he doesn't make the cut.
But but brooks Keptko would start to be in that. Well,
(01:22:37):
he's in the Rory mclroy conversation right now, but you
put him in the PHILM michelson just on this year
amount of major wins if he were to win. Yeah,
and so obviously the Open Championship, big deal. People are
going to be sleep starved throughout the course of the weekend,
Dan Buyer included. But you will grind through here on
Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, and East Coast people have a
little bit easier because they get a three hour head
(01:22:58):
start on us. So when we get the advantage of
the NFL season when it comes to this tournament the
one time a year it's or even Wimbledon last week,
it wasn't as much of a grind for people to
wake up and watch the Wimbledon final as it was
for us on the West Coast. Now we're even for
West Coast basketball games. You guys can stop complaining about it.
Oh that's why the ratings are down. Now, just get
your ass up, all right, It's stop being lazy um.
(01:23:20):
All right, So the other big story is the one
in the NFL. The NFL announcer not going to suspend
Tyreek kill Um. They're gonna leave it open in case
something else happens, in case something else comes a bit.
But Dan, as you pointed out earlier, this goes back
really to the Ray Rice situation from several years ago,
and I think that's what sort of ties into the
decision earlier tonight. Yeah, I just don't think that the
(01:23:41):
NFL could have made the announcement honest suspension because there
are there are there's a group of people. You're not
gonna make everyone happy, no matter what you do, You're
not making everyone happy. But there's a group of people
that believe that the NFL probably have all the information
and just don't want to have a bad look for
their league. If the NFL were to suspend Tyree kill
I think it would show that they had more information
(01:24:02):
than maybe they let on, and if any of it
came became public, all of us in the NFL is
back in a situation where ray Rice was suspended two
games and then the video came out and everybody said,
how in the world did you only get a two
game suspension when something like this had happened, even though
it had been the the the longest suspension that you
would have had in the NFL at at that time.
So that's where I think the NFL is playing at
(01:24:24):
safe here. It's also a matter of in Jonas Again,
they're gonna be people who say that the NFL turns
a blind eye to this stuff. I just don't know
what they can all do to shore everything up and
make it like if the if the investigators aren't cooperating
with the information and the court documents are sealed, I
don't know what you expect the NFL to do. Yeah,
(01:24:46):
I agree, and the other aspect of this and just
sort of spinning it forward because now that the decision
has been handed out and people have their reaction about
whether they got it right or got it wrong, or
a he's a bad guy, what if? Any of that stuff.
But now the ca versation turns back to where it
was at before all of this went down, because before
all of it went down, the Kansas City Chiefs in Tyreko,
(01:25:06):
we're talking about a contract extension. I actually think this
turns out to be the best case scenario for the Chiefs,
because not only do you not lose him for any
games and you don't have to cut him, but also
you're now going to get him at a decent rate
based on the fact that he's probably not gonna haggle,
understanding how close he is to losing his entire NFL career,
(01:25:29):
considering the stuff that you can probably put on the
contract as well, Like, that's the language that you would
say that i'd need to we need to have in
the contract. If if you want to continue with this,
and if everything has changed like you said it was
and these allegations were false, you should have no problem
abiding by these rules and these benchmarks that we put
into this contract. And look, people can take think of
(01:25:51):
that as sort of, uh, you know, a callous approach
if you will, for lack of a better term, or yeah,
you guys are thinking about the wrong things. No worth
good about the reality of things. The Chiefs are talking
contract with him, so it's not unfair to talk contract
and what those ramifications are. And if they're going to
give him an incentively deal, uh, in order to make
(01:26:11):
sure that he doesn't get in trouble off the field,
Guess who's going to take that Tyreek Hill. He's not
in a position to haggle them on a better deal
understanding how how close he really was to being gone
for a long long time and how close he still is.
So I think as much as you can criticize Chief
fans if they want to celebrate him or cheer him,
(01:26:32):
or defend him or whatnot, if you're the Kansas City Chiefs,
this is the best possible outcome because he is an
amazing football player. What a week in the a f
C West. And not to diminish these allegations or what,
what actually did happen to the to the to their child,
even though we don't know how it happened, it's not
to it's not to lessen that. But when you think
of how this season is going to play out, we
(01:26:54):
don't know exactly what the New England Patriots are going
to be without Rob Gronkowski for a full season, how
they go into end up being the Sony Michelle led
New England Patriots, with Tom Brady picking his spots to
be the general. I just look in the a f
C West jonas of where the Chiefs and Chargers were.
The Chiefs not found out they're gonna have their star
running back four week one and if healthy, will play
(01:27:17):
for them for the rest of the season. Where the
Chargers found out this week they don't know if they're
gonna have their starting running back for Week one or
parts of this season. So when you see how this
week changed in the NFL, the A F. C. West
was front and center in that discussion, and also the
Chargers starting running back, who took a really aggressive approach
to Oh, if I don't get one, trade me. WHOA
(01:27:38):
hold on, hold on, hold on, if there's an issue,
let's talk about it. But he went nuclear right off
the bat and just said, well, go ahead and trade
me now, Dan, you the last couple of years here
on Fox Sports Radio have hosted um Fox Football Fantasy
every single Sunday morning here on Fox Sports Radio and
the other aspect of this, and this is a reality
(01:28:01):
of where we're at. And and do you think there's
any coincidence that the NFL wants to add a couple
of more games. I mean, fantasy football has played into
this a lot Tyreek Hill is going to be a
coveted guy when it comes to fantasy football, all right,
So this isn't just about Chiefs fans and what do
they do? They're conflicted. It's also the are you conflicted
to want to take Tyreek Hill on your team? If
(01:28:24):
he's available in your fantasy league and he's sitting there,
are you taking Tyreek Hill? Absolutely? Yeah? Yeah, Pat Mahomes
is going to be the first quarterback taken in your league.
So Tyreek Hill coming back does not change that for
Kansas City. What changes is probably your stacking of wide
receivers and how you're looking at things. And I mean,
(01:28:47):
I have one guy ahead of Tyreek Hill and that's
how And I know it's crazy. And PPR leagues a
little bit different because you're gonna get guys with more receptions.
But if you're in a standard league, I only have
DeAndre Hopkins above Tyreek Hill. Yeah. Um, Davante Adams I
(01:29:08):
would put maybe because I think the volume that he's
gonna get for Aaron Rodgers PPR or not, I think
Davante Adams. Let me put it this way, Tyree kill
would be a top three wide receiver. But for those
people out there that are saying I don't want Tyreek
Hill on my team, all right, I gotta, I gotta.
Here's one for you. How about the draft. Michael Thomas, Right, yeah,
here's one for you. How about a week twelve, I
(01:29:28):
offered a trade you will Lutz for Tyree Hill. All right,
give me will LUTs you take Tyree Hill. You're not
gonna take that deal. Well, we're not. We're not taking
that trade. Stop. I don't know why people continue to
invest all of their heart into this stuff. These are players,
that's it. They're not your friends, They're not nothing more.
(01:29:48):
They're players. If you want to root for them, or
you want to not root for them, or you want
to then go, that's your prerogative. But the idea that well,
I don't want that sort of bad apple on my
fantasy team. We're talking fantasy football here. Like the I
don't think that people should be I also don't think
if you're a fan base, I don't think you should
accuse the Kansas City Chief fans if they celebrate Tyreek
(01:30:11):
Hill typical Kansas City Chief fan. We want to look
hard enough, we can find a bad apple on every
single roster. We can go through the history of the NFL.
And so don't throw stones. If you live in a glasshouse,
and I feel like that's what's that's a lot of
what's going around when people are okay with peering for
Tyreek Kill or drafting Tyreek Hill, or okay with the
NFL's decision not to him. His receiving skills are actually
(01:30:34):
really good. When you watch him catch the football, he
catches it with his hands. And I know this may
seem trivial and what happened, but this is what happens.
It's what we're gonna be talking about when this gets
in the rear view of years. So we're just you know,
we're we're ahead of the case. If you will, the
Chiefs are going to be dynamic. You now don't have
Kareem Hunt now if that would hurt the running game
(01:30:57):
or not. Damian Williams, Carlos Hide, maybe they can pick
up the slack. But the point is is you've lost
one of your top playmakers. You're not sure always gonna
be replaced. So you know what you do. You put
the ball in the other playmakers hands more often. So
that's Tyreek Hill. So that's Travis Kelsey. Yeah. The the
value of Tyreek Hill in fantasy leagues, I think is
(01:31:18):
a top three wide receiver. Remember when the Chief said
Christian Nicoya and Barry word. Yes, never that those big
shoulder pads and they had the biggest shoulder pads in
the history of the NFL. I gotta be in the conversation.
Gotta it's gonna be close. Yeah, yeah, I can't remember
any bigger um Alright. So he's Dan Buyer. I'm Jonas
Knox in for Doug gottliebire Fox Sport Training Got Show
brought to you by Farmers. At Farmers, we've seen almost everything,
(01:31:40):
so we know how to cover almost anything when it's
game time. Have an experienced player to help you stay
ahead of the game, but their experience into play. At
Farmers dot Com. We are so there is a dilemma
going on in the NFL with one franchise involving multiple players.
We will go live to the scene of the chaos
(01:32:01):
that's next year on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to
catch live editions of the Doug got Leave Show weekdays
at noon Eastern three pm Pacific. This is the Doug
Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Dan Buyer, He's
Jona is not sitting in for Doug Gottlieb today, we'll
check in our good friend John Ramos as he and
his wife Suzanne soon to welcome a new member of
(01:32:23):
the family. Yes, and the very near future will do that.
I don't know about fifteen minutes minutes or so. So
those of you looking for the John Ramo Show, there's
a show going on. It's just not going to be
today here on Fox Sports Radio. Joining us now though,
here on Fox Sports Radio to talk the NFL. The
big news of the day and what's happening is training
camps will soon be beginning all around the NFL. Broncos
(01:32:47):
already underway. Matt Mosley hosted The Matt Mosley Show in Austin, Waco, Texas,
plus columnists for the Dallas Morning News and go host
of the Doomsday Podcast. Did I get everything in? Matt?
Did I? Did I leave anything out? On the resume
of one Mattley. You're doing well. You're doing well. I'm
having to, you know, string a lot of things together
to kind of stay afloat. But thank you, thank you
for that introduction. I appreciate it. Well, we are glad
(01:33:10):
to have you. And one of the biggest spotlights as
training camps will set to open is what is happening
with the Dallas Cowboys in the situation with Ezekiel Elliott
and his contract. What is the status as we get
closer and closer to to the veterans reporting in Oxnard
of Ezekiel Elliott and what is going on with the
Cowboys and him possibly getting that that new deal. Well,
(01:33:33):
I you know, I still think that Dak Prescott's deal
is a more pressing matter to the Cowboys. And uh,
it's interesting that Seeks made this attempt. Uh, you know,
I find this hard to believe that he truly will
hold up. I don't think he's got much of the
stomach for this. And two years, he still has two
years remaining on his deal, and so I I just
(01:33:55):
don't see. I think Dak uh will get in his
here and make sure he is there and that he
won't go this route. But I kind of understand what
he's thinking is because the Cowboys are known for running
these guys into the ground. They did it with de
Marco Murray. Uh actually did it back in the days
of him. It when they have a bell cow this
(01:34:17):
this team doesn't worry about that running backs future. And
when you see some of these deals, you know that
I think teams are having a tougher time doing long
term deals with running back. So that's why this running
back is trying to maybe make a little noise before camp.
But I just don't think it's the biggest priority. In fact,
(01:34:38):
I would say Zeke might be third in line behind
Dak and a Maori Cooper right now. Uh, he might
be the third guy in line for so I I
I'll be surprised. I'll be in position for you guys
if you need me in ox Stars And there's really
no other reason you'll shouldn't have come to ox SNRD.
I know you'll barely ever leave Los Angeles, but I'll
(01:34:59):
be there on the scene to kind of monitor that.
And I mean, I hope we have a hold out
and I love that. It's a great way to open camp,
But I don't think which which tennis court are you
gonna be? Yeah, Oh, they do have a beautiful set
up there right wherever I'll be. I promise you they'll
set me up with where I'll be turned away from
practice that Jerry and then give us they give orders
(01:35:21):
usually can you put Mosley In fact, if you could
just kind of put him over across the street with
all the fans and let him broadcasts from up there,
that's where we prefer to put him. But I will
be on those tennis courts where, even though it's supposed
to be so gorgeous in that part of the country
in August, when we escape the Texas heat, those tennis
courts it's not it's not any It's about a hundred
(01:35:42):
degrees on those courts. So I'll be over there complaining
with everybody else. Yeah, and Matt, I live in Thousand Oaks.
That's less than twenty minutes away from me, so I
might join you just for the chaos. It seems like
a good time in Oxnard. Can I ask you? Can
I ask you this, How contentious are things between Ezekielid
and the cow Boys or are they even at all? No?
(01:36:02):
I don't think so. I mean he he just uh
you know, they get a reprieve on this security guard
shove from the electric dance Carnival. I know jonas a
big fan of those kinds of things. He loves a
dance carnival. But I think they were able to kind
of get past that. So I think they're fine. I mean,
I think they need him. They they they, I mean
they Everything is played around him again, That's part of
(01:36:24):
why he's making some noises. He knows that they based
so much of their offense and their entire team and
their identity is around this running game and him. So
I think, you know, in his agent probably has a
pretty good idea. It's like, I don't think we'll ever
have this much leverage. I don't know if if we
let this thing play out, maybe they let us walk
like they did with DeMarco Murray. If we make a
(01:36:46):
little noise right now, maybe they'll feel compelled to kind
of meet us halfway and find some kind of deal.
But I think the quarterback is gonna get taken care
of before anybody else. I'd be very surprised if SEEK
was able to to force their hand on this thing.
And uh, I am, but I don't think I literally,
I would give this about I've changed from two percent
(01:37:09):
to a five percent chance of happening. So I would
not abandon the you know, the uh the palatial estate
you have there in Thousand Oaks and hit down to
ox Arch just yet. Matt Mosley of the Dallas Morning
News joining us. Do they have corn dogs at these
music festivals or is it just straight music. I'm usually
on ecstasy and I have a glow stick around. Jonas
(01:37:30):
actually just came from one when he came to work
today at about eleven o'clock. Yeah, no sleep at all.
Matt Mosley of the Dallas Morning News joining us. What
about the urgency for the Cowboys this season though, because
it does seem that it is for the taking. How
much pressure? How much are they counting on this season
(01:37:50):
being the season that they finally make it back to
the Super Bowl? Yeah, now that's super Bowl, that's a
I think the next step would actually be making it
to a title game. That would be enormous for them.
They obviously played for the right to get to the
NFC title game last year, lost badly to the Rams.
I mean, there was some embarrassment over that, and that's
(01:38:12):
why one of the many reasons you saw Scott lit
ahand the play caller off its coordinator fired. Uh So
now they're ready to move on. So I think, Uh,
I don't think there's any pressure to get to the
Super Bowl. I think there is a pressure to possibly
try to get to an NFC title game. And if
they even made that, I'm not saying they have to
win that get the Super Bowl. If they qualified for
an NFC title game, Uh, Garrett might get like a
(01:38:35):
lifetime contract. Even with them getting home field a couple
of years ago, like and and blowing that against Green
bayd know, they lost in the division all but yeah,
so they'll be fine. I mean that's the next step.
That's what they've been done. I mean they used to
do that every year. I mean there was a time
even with Danny White was there. They were going to
like three straight NFC title games with Danny White, and
(01:38:55):
then it just kind of they thought it would go
on forever and it's just never happened again since the
super Bowl years of the nineties. So uh, at this point,
that's the only pressure. There's no pressure to get to
the super Bowl. Get to that title game would be
big um. But Garrett is they've left him going into
the final year of his contract. He's a total lame
up situation. And then they've brought in Kellen Moore. You
(01:39:18):
guys love this this season. Kellen Moore as the offense coordinator.
He is as meek and mild as a little kitten.
He doesn't say much. And then John Kittna It's like
John Wayne has arrived the quarterbacks coach. So you know,
how is this gonna shake out. I don't know, but
Kitna is I mean, he is in your face, he
is working with Dac. I think that has huge respect
(01:39:40):
for him. And then you've got Kellen Moore, who's kind
of their boy genius. And so far, all I can
tell is that they've just decided there they're They're hanging
their hats on the offense on some more pre pre
snap motion. Guys get excited there will be some pre
snap magic with his Cowboys team. What's the feeling in
the organization with Jason and Garrett? I mean, do they
(01:40:01):
have faith in him or does everyone kind of recognize
that this is probably it? Well? I think uh, I
think Jerry loves where it is right now. He knows
that Jason is uh is not going anywhere, and uh if, if,
if they're able to turn some kind of corner, he
can hang on to Jason. He hates the thought of
moving on from Garrett, but because of their relationship and
(01:40:22):
because he's sort of family, they can allow this to happen.
They can allow him to go into his final year.
And what this is is kind of a bone they're
throwing to the fans who are so frustrated for years
and years of Garrett. Also one other thing, Jarret's probably
gonna end up calling plays this season. He gets to
go back to being a play caller why he was
brought in in the first place, and to prove is
(01:40:45):
he some sort of you know, is he the guy?
Could he be around here for a long time or
is this the final year? So I think, I mean,
I you know, the fans and the media don't have
you know, huge They don't hold him in that higher regard.
Jerry actually does. But Jerry doesn't mind kind of holding
his feet to the fire because he kind of likes
the public optics behind closed doors, He's hugging up on
(01:41:08):
him and kind of telling some family stories and all
that kind of stuff. So they're fine, It's just this
is more of like a public pr thing. Let's let
him go into the final year and then what Jerry
will love is if they get on a run, all
the stories will come about are they going to extend hearing?
And then Jerry will kind of be able to almost say,
look what I did. I turned him into a better
(01:41:29):
coach by letting him go into this lame duck season.
Matt Mosley joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. He's
Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer sitting in for Doug and
the Doug Gottlieb Show. Matt's the host of The Matt
Mosley Show and also a co host of the Doomsday Podcast.
How do you think Jerry Jones toick the news of
the non suspension for Tyreek Hill today? Well, I thought that.
I thought I wish I was to fly on the wall.
(01:41:50):
In fact, I'm in Florida right now, about ten to
fifteen miles from Jerry's vacation home, kind of like outside seaside,
Florida on thirty A. I'm might I might just show
up over there. I don't know if Jerry, he may
have pretty good security. But I I think you saw
it with Elliott kind of getting brought into New York
(01:42:11):
to get questioned. They didn't give him anything on that.
I think you've seen the stance of the commissioner changed
the last two years. I think with a kneeling. I
think with the punishments. I think what happened with Zeke.
They saw the ratings down. And I do think some
of you know, and I was tweeting about this earlier today,
I think the league is moving in a direction where
(01:42:32):
instead of looking for reasons to punish guys, they're looking
for reasons not to punish guys. And I think that's
with Tyreek kill. They can put it out there. Only
eight and a half hours with Lisa Frill, a man
didn't crack. I mean, my goodness, you know, I don't
know if she's it's like they're gone, you know, some
kind of black ops side or something. I I I think, um,
I think it's uh, you know, it's a it's a
(01:42:53):
it's a different move by the commissioner. And I think
if Zeke had of if that investigation took place in
this climate, he would have never missed a single game
because he was not arrested and and honestly, there was
some contention that his investigation was kind of bodged, and
one of their lead investigators basically said, I don't see
anything here. I don't find the witness credible. So uh,
(01:43:17):
they basically at that point, we're looking for any reason
to suspend people. Now they're looking at for the opposite way.
So I think Jerry would uh uh, you know, he'd
like something in return for what happened two years ago.
But I don't see it coming he's Matt Mosley. That's
where you can find him on Twitter. You can hear
him on the Matt Mosley Show and also the co
host of the Doomsday Podcast. Read him in the Dallas
(01:43:37):
Morning News. Appreciate it, Matt. We'll do it again soon,
I hope. So, guys, I'll talk to you soon. Dan Buyer,
Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, coming up next here on FSR, We're gonna
try something here on the show that's probably gonna fail miserably.
This this might end up being the worst idea we've
ever had on the show. But before we get to
(01:43:58):
all of that, here's eyes a glow and crown with
the lads shim around the world of sports. Jonasentan NFL
note that just came down. The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed
to a one year deal with veteran running back Darren Sprawls.
Round two of the Open Championship is in the books. JB.
Holmes and Shane Lowry share the lead at eight under
par overall, but Phil Mickelson missed the cut, Rory McElroy

Tiger Woods. I just want some time off, just to
go away from it. Had a long trip to uh
to Thailand and then try to get ready for this event,
play this event. It's it's been on a lot of travel,
a lot of time in the air, a lot of
moving around and different hotels and everything. I just wanted
to want to go home. Yankees manager Aaron Boone will
(01:44:43):
presumably be home tonight because Major League Baseball suspended him
one game for his already epic and legendary tirade against
umpire Brennan Miller in yesterday's game against the Tampa Bay Raised. Meanwhile,
it's just gone final at wrigley Field. Cubs over the

Doug gott Leaves Show on Fox Sports Radio. Thank you
very much, Isaac Blow and chron Isaac will be back
in about ten minutes or so to give us all
the headlines today in the world of sports, and maybe
even outside of that. He's Jonas Knocks, I'm Dave and Buyer.
Our minds are also maybe outside of the sports world,
as we're thinking of a big day for for one
(01:46:09):
of our teammates here at Fox Sports Radio. John Ramos
is not here and it's a it's because his wife
Suzanne is on the verge of of of having a baby.
We don't have the exact update of the status, but
we hope to at least what send some sends, some
well wishes a lot of his way. Yeah, definitely give
(01:46:31):
John a shout out let him know that that we're
thinking about him and that you know, he's uh, he's
in our thoughts, uh, you know, and we hope everything
goes well as John is very excited, uh and gave us, uh,
you know, about about twenty minutes heads up that he
was not going to be on the show today via email.
So we we appreciate all of that. I've I've just
always wanted somebody to be so committed to the on
(01:46:53):
air product that they call us from the hospital in
the same room that their wife is giving birth. And
that's all I wanted, because I'm doing it if if
my fiance and I ever have if we have kids
after we get married. I'm telling you right now, I
don't care what shows on the air. I'm calling in
while she's in labor. Yeah, because I committed to the
product here as as a stringer would. Ye. It's live
(01:47:18):
al right, live from seeing her side. I yeah, um, yeah,
So well, we want to we want to send John
his I guess uh, I guess well wishes and even
though we are unable to he's probably a little bit
(01:47:38):
busy right now, we still should be able to. Ye,
why not, let's just call him on the air. And
uh and who knows, maybe leave a voicemailer's all right,
maybe he'll even maybe he'll even pick up. So so
if our executive producer lead to Lap can get John Ramos,
and it would be even better. If we got Susanne
on the air, that would be even that would be
even better. It's like when they make up the outfielders
(01:47:59):
during all start names. Yes do we do? We do?
We have? John? We got a phone as I can. Thanks. Hey, John,
It's Jonas and Dan here. We were actually on the air.
We wanted to leave you a message. John. We just
wanted to say congratulations. I hope everything's going while in
(01:48:23):
the hospital. And we really appreciated the three minute heads
up before the start of the show that you weren't
going to be in today. Really professional, John, We appreciate it.
Man and John a message from all of us here
at Fox Sports Radio, John, John, No excuse John, We
(01:48:44):
want play by play from the hospital room. Ah. There
it is. There is our our message to John Ramos,
leaving a great job by Ryan to do the board
work on that, to not get John's phone number out
to the to the massage. Yeah. And by the way,
um there and we did the ones up? Thing? Is
that is John's Is that his favorite bit ever? And television?
(01:49:06):
He loves that for some reason because whenever the John
Robbo Show comes along, he always wants to do loves
watap guy. He's great. You think she's gonna be pissed? Yeah,
h no. I think Susanne will be a good sport
as long as we don't bring up Kitty Boo again. Yeah,
(01:49:26):
that that wasn't a good look. John's John's cat got
eaten by the neighbor's dog and Dan made a joke
about it, and I think that got back to us Susanne,
and she wasn't through thrill. But so then we just
did the joke twice as much. Sorry Susanne. Sorry, but
we all love Kitty Boo and we just said that
John's one who was feeding us alone, all right, So
(01:49:47):
he's Dan by Er. I'm Jonas Knocks. This is a

Who's gonna give us all the latest in the headlines

your car? Check out Truecar. True Cash offer not available
in all areas. What's happened in Isaac Dana Jonas. Biggest
story today the NFL announcing that it is not going
to discipline Chiefs receiver Tyree Hill after the investigated allegations
of child abuse against him. Lee said in a statement,
based on the evidence presently available, the NFL cannot conclude
(01:51:12):
that Hill violated the personal conduct policy. Again, I we've
talked about it. My stances this is. I think the
NFL is worried that there is stuff that is going
to come out later and at that point they will
then punish him. I've just seen an article of just
on the verbal threats of the audio that we heard
(01:51:33):
and what was reported that you know, Tyreek Hill should
have served the suspension. Jason lackinfor a questioned the same
thing when it happened to Jimmy Smith of the Ravens.
I think the NFL is really really worried about handing
out something when others may think that they know more
than they really do. Yeah, they're thinking before acting, which
is probably what they should have been doing the whole time. Um,
(01:51:53):
and you pointed out the Ray Rice, you know, giving
him the two games, that was going to be the
comp to everything else. Every other punishment is going to
be compared to that and the severity of it. So
I'm not totally surprised by this. I actually think that
they handled this the right way this time. And I
was very common at NFL practices or Division one college
(01:52:14):
football practices for teams to play music over loudspeakers at practice,
especially during warmups. You know, players pick their favorites. Not
the Denver Broncos and not new head coach Vic Fangio.
Broncos camp already underway because they play the Falcons in
the Hall of Fame game a week before everybody else
plays their first preseason game. Fangio is not having any
(01:52:37):
music at his practices. His reasoning, there's no music in games,
and when it comes to the point where we need
to simulate crowd noise in practice, which we will do,
it will be noise. It won't be music. Noise by definition,
sounds annoying. Music sounds nice. Unquote Vic Fangio apparently has
(01:52:58):
never heard any Nickelback song. But what guys to think
about that? You have to take a shot at Oh,
I forgot, I'm talking to the world's biggest Nickelback fan.
Not surprised, Not surprised, at all. Look their first out
and not that bad. After that, we went down like
the Titanic. Not not not a good follow up album.
Um he big fans. You also said that he's going
(01:53:18):
to let almost every single practice be open to the public,
and his thought is, you know, maybe they can't afford
to get to games, so if we can be out
there and we can make a fan and we can.
So he's taken, you know, sort of a different approach
than everybody else, and it's either going to have success
and everybody's gonna follow him, or he might be out
of a job in a year. I don't mind the
music during stretching, and I'm sorry every NFL stadium has
(01:53:40):
music are stretching, like like I understand when Drew locks
trying to make an audible and it's not. You know,
you're remind me. You know, I get that, I get
not having that, but you know, it reminds me of
when Tom coflin to go over the Jaguars and nobody
could wear sunglasses. Oh yeah, like that like coaches were
(01:54:02):
not And then he yelled at the guy who was
lowering the crane because he was trying to talk to
the team and braided him in front of everybody because
he was lowering the video crane when he was trying
to talk. Hey, I I say music during stretching. It's
fine during the snap. I get it. In the NBA,
James Harden has decided to withdraw from playing with the
U S National team at the upcoming Feebo World Cup
(01:54:25):
in China. Anthony Davis already decided to withdraw as well.
Hardens rationale because he wants to concentrate on preparations for
the upcoming season with the Houston Rockets integrating Russell Westbrook
into the team. And one other note, This Feeble World
Cup will be the debut of new US national team
(01:54:46):
Mr Happy Pants Greg Popovich understand. Yeah, I listen if
I'm any owner, and I know that it's all about
team USA basketball. I want my guys playing the least
amount of hoops that aren't in the regular season or
playoffs than they can. You know, it was so cool
about watching the US Olympic basketball team back in the
(01:55:07):
day day remember the Dream Team, because the first time
we got to see all these stars playing together. Yeah
that's the NBA now, So I'm not really interesting national
basketball and leave it somewhere else. You've ruined it. It's
like inter league in baseball. Sorry, I'm not as excited
to see inter league games anymore. And finally, Major League
Baseball today suspended Yankees manager Aaron Boone for his tirade
(01:55:31):
in yesterday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays against plate
umpire Brennan Miller, a tirade that already went viral thanks
to some cleverly placed field microphones. And we'll leave it
at that, but he was officially suspended one game and
also find for quote inappropriate actions, including contact with the
home plate umpire. It went viral before game two of
(01:55:53):
the double hitter started. He should have asked to have
been suspended for that game too, and then he gives
just gone home early. And there are some things that
you figure out in life that you say better than
most people. And I think Aaron Boone somewhere along the
line somebody must have told him that he says savage
or savages really well, because he said it like five
(01:56:13):
times when he was talking to that. Our guys are
savages in that box. Yeah we got it, Aaron, we
got it. No, no, no, our guys are sitting Okay,
what's your what's your off? Speed pitch because all your
your this is all you've got, This is your only line.
If you're gonna cut a promo, at least have a
couple of lines. That was his only go tow line.
And since he was a young MP who was early
in his Major League baseball career, I now will throw
(01:56:35):
out anybody like That's what I want to be known as,
is the guy who throws everybody out instead of the
guy who was yelled at like a twelve year old embarrassing.
I actually had more respect than I felt bad for
the ump after that because he took it almost literally
on the chin and could do nothing to retort, nothing
to respond. I get out there and pressed the press. Alright,
(01:56:58):
jonas Open champions Or. Through two rounds of play, Tiger
didn't make the cut. Neither did phill or Rory. I
think brooks Kepka has a great chance of coming back
and winning. Your winner of the Open Championship this weekend
will be will be the name that I give you
on Monday. Dan
