to Fox Sports Radio Boom, What Up America, Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio, brought you by Discover card We treat
you like you to treat you. Man. I hope you're
having a good day as long as you're not a St.
Louis Cardinal fan or the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals.

(01:45):
Did he say they're gonna kick the living crap out
of the Nationals? Right? Yeah, not so much. Down three
games to none, that's only lead to a comeback once.
We got a lot of football to get to. Sim's
gonna join us Pro Football Talk Football Night in America.
They had a beat down at the hands of the

(02:06):
Pittsburgh Steelers going back two nights ago. I want to
get his take on last night's game, and they got
a big one upcoming this Sunday night as well. Man,
do we have a lot to get to. Let's start
with last night. All right, here's what I'm gonna say
about the officiating, and this is really important. Shut up, America.

(02:28):
You all have to stop bitching and complaining about the officiating.
I'm gonna say to you what my father and coaches
used to say to me, and I now say to
my players. It ain't your job, my job, right. The
players should never talk to the revs. Only the coaches,
only the owners. Those people they can complain about it.

(02:49):
But the idea that somehow that's the scourge aboudge officiating, like, no,
it's not. First, TV is better than it's ever been.
We got more cameras, we got better angles, we've got
slower motion, we don't miss anything anything. And then you
factor in our incessant need to make things that are

(03:13):
imperfect perfect. That's what we do, you name it. And
the problem is we try and make imperfect things perfect.
It's why you shouldn't get plastic surgery, man, I mean,
unless you have some sort of deformity or you have

(03:34):
a nasty scar or whatever. The worst is when you
have really really beautiful men and women, Like beautiful women
go in like I just want to get a little
touched up, and then it's like mm hmmm, mm hmm.
They all look the same. Have you ever seen any
of these women that are like sixties seven years old?
They've all had the face letters. They all look the same.
They all look like Jack Nicholas with a joke, Rick

(03:56):
Herr Day for the deal by the pale moon light,
like they're all surprised all the time. We try and
make imperfect things perfect. The reason that rule books are
so thick, right, the reason that there's such bureaucracy in Congress.
Why we try to make things that are imperfect perfect.

(04:18):
I mean, that's really the whole deal about paying college athletes.
That's a really good system. It could be made better. No, no,
it's nearly perfect. We're trying to make something that's imperfect perfect.
So now we're gonna have judgment calls reviewable, but only
one such judgment call. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard,

(04:38):
And of course it's made a mess of the officials.
How many of you have studied the court of law
or understand the basic concept of of testimony? What is
the least accurate testimony? Was at least accurate eye witness
testimony because your eyes can, in fact to see you right.

(05:02):
So if eye witness testimony is the least accuratest, what
do you think is gonna happen with a group of
middle aged men in an incredibly violent, incredibly explosive activity
like football. They're gonna miss one or two, and it's
gotten to the point where you can't even enjoy. Like
no one's pointed out that was a hell of a

(05:22):
football game, and you can say, well, I heard Colin Calary.
Matt Stafford always loses that game. No, Matt Stafford usually
makes the big mistake, and he didn't last night. Aaron
Rodgers made some throws. You're like, holly crap, did you
see that? How did he do that? He had a

(05:43):
couple of balls dropping, He's rolling to his left, fires
without stopping into the end zone and uh what what's
the big tie Jimmy Graham? I mean the ball ricochets
off Jimmy Graham right between the eight and the zero,
and the window is like minuscule, Like, oh my god,
you want to be threading the needle. He makes some throws,

(06:08):
he makes some plays. You're just like, what do you do?
Even the even the picky through which is a little
behind his wide receiver fell down, it still hit him
and literally in the face mask. He he had Aaron Jones,
what about the uh the little wheel route for Aaron
Jones in the first half. You guys see that one
like forty yards downfield literally hit Aaron Jones through the
hands into the face mash like you couldn't and he

(06:30):
didn't throw it hard could It couldn't have been thrown
any better. But instead of appreciating, hell, it's lambeau Field.
The kicker did the lambeau Leap. Another close game, The
Lions are pretty good. Like the map, Patricia, thing is
kind of working right, kind of working. Um. The Packers

(06:51):
are finding ways to win games there three now and
now their division making them what see, it feels like
a mortal lock to make the playoffs, Like all of
these things can be discussed kind of like the Packers
all white uniforms anybody else, But instead of like, man,
they missed a couple of calls. Of course they did,
news flash, they always do in every sport throughout history.

(07:16):
And I and there's a guy dani Orlovski okay, former
line quarterback who's like this has to stop your rolling
in the game, Like, dude, these the immacuate reception should
have been called back. Did anybody watch the Steelers Seahawks
Super Bowl? There's a bunch of crummy calls there they've
gotta make bad calls. Gotta make bad calls. There's never

(07:39):
no one has ever pitched a perfect game inofficiating. Do
you want them to not call anything? That's that? That ends? Well? Right,
it's hard. These guys are huge men with an incredibly
violent sport. And though you don't have to see the

(08:00):
entire field, you just see a small microscope, small area
window that you have to look at, and in a
slip second, you gotta see did you hit him in
the face mask or did you hit him just in
the shoulder pad. God, it's hard to tell, you know,
you can't do, you can't go. I don't know, because
the play is over. That's it. It's bamam welloo's bang

(08:23):
bang play. Every play is a bang bang play. So yeah,
I would like to get more calls, right, And I've
heard the well and I'm here sitting here saying this
is the way it's always been. The officiating is better
than it's always been, but so too is the technology.

(08:44):
And if you want every call to be made perfect,
then you're in for four and a half hour boring
as hell football games. You just are. We can't even
get end of game celebrations anymore. Hold On, we gotta
go to the booth because every scoring play is reviewed. Okay,

(09:05):
now you can celebrate, right, it's nuts. Imagine imagine the
remember the the band is on the field play between
Stanford and cal Imagine that happened now, like they're celebrating,
they run over the bad guy. They're celebrating the end
there like, hold on, we gotta both review. No, that's
not sports. Sports is full of mistakes, small errors made

(09:28):
because you gotta make snap judgments, whether you're a player,
whether you're a coach, or whether you're an official. And
you've got to shut the hell up about this stuff.
It's obnoxious. I get it to Mr Call. What was me?
Where the Lions? We got screwed? No, you didn't. What
I'd like to see Matt Stafford get the ball back. Yeah,
it was it unfortunate that that call went against you.

(09:50):
It was let it be know. And Packers are still
gonna kick a field goal. We're still gonna go up
twenty two, and you would have had to get a stop.
And I thought that both those hands of the FA
East they were if he at best upon further review,
if you check out the still footage, it looks like
at least one of those appears to have been a
good call. And as much as you could say, well
what if you just hit him a little on the

(10:11):
face mask, I get it, But where do you draw
the line? It's hard And my takeaway is Aaron Rodgers
is incredible, mat Patrician is doing a nice job. And
I will not allow a couple of calls that were

(10:33):
fifty fifty to take away from the fact that I
enjoyed money in football. I thought it was great. That
was great. Sorry if that ruins the Lions season. You
win some and you lose some. I mean, this is
PTS Lions fans PTSD from the Calvin Johnson he caught

(10:54):
it in the end zone PTSD from the Lions when
they played the Cowboys in the playoffs a couple years
You remember that Cowboys and Cowboys got a bunch of calls.
You're like, man, here we go again. The league's against
the lines. No they're not. There's no meeting that goes
all right, guys, listen, see the guys in Honolula bu
f them to them like Detroit. You've gotten the benefit

(11:16):
of the doubt, far more so than you ever should have.
You got super Bowls for no apparent reason, alright, because
people feel bad that the weather sucks, that the economy
has sucked, and we're like, all right, we'll throw you
a bone. We'll give you a Super Bowl, we'll give
you a Final Four. No way Detroit should have gotten either.
But you did. You got in the benefit of the doubt.
Nobody's at to screw you. It appeared to calls I

(11:37):
wouldn't have made if I was in that position, But
I'm also not in an NFL official. It was really
really close. That's at some point the season, you're gonna
get a couple of come your way. That was what
Eddie Suthing used to tell me, don't you reff all
ref and over the life of all He used to say,
over college basketball season, you're gonna get You're gonna get
a couple that don't go your way, and you're gonna
get a couple that do. And no one ever says

(11:59):
thank you when it gets the couple to come away.
No one ever says like, hey, we would have lost
that game if not for those couple of calls. They
only say we would have won that game if not
for those couple of calls. It's the only time there
in lies the correlation between something I always tell you right,
No one ever asked for a second opinion on good news,
and no one ever gives credit to the officials when
they win a game. We wouldn't have won that one

(12:21):
not for the refs. The refs only cause you to
lose football games. Remember that skill, talent, scheme, cohesiveness, culture
that helps you win, refs that makes you lose. We're good,
all right, good, Chris Simms joins us. Upcoming Next, is
it is? Is he staying up late at night worrying

(12:41):
about the officiating He's been around his entire life. Plus, um,
we're on the brink here of something really bad happening
with the Dallas Cowboys, same question for the Cleveland Browns,
same question for the l A Chargers, l A Ray
Or Is this just the natural circle of life in

(13:04):
the NFL? Half the teams that make the playoffs on
a given year don't make it the next year. We'll
ask Chris Sims, he joins us. Next, be sure to
catch the live edition of The Doug gott Leap Show
weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio ah APP. Car

Dame games, you see him on the halftime of Sunday
Night Football, You'll hear him on the Doug Gollup Show
in mirror moments. Um also should be pointed out that

(13:48):
the NFC North is kind of stacked. You know, we
talked about how the Packers are like legit, and I
think the Lions of this thing is working. Um. The
Bears may have a mit sture bisk. The issue long
term in terms of Issy and elite quarterback with their
defense is so good, I'm not sure how much it matters.
And then the Vikings Vikings can turn the corner, but

(14:08):
I can started. They're like, oh the forward past Vikings
are basically going through the last two weeks. What l
s U is going through this season? Hey, if we
throw the ball kind of works down the field. Well
we got we got Theeland one week in Stefan Diggs
next week, like, oh yeah. Anyway, the Packers um top

(14:29):
ten in offense and in defense, athan red zone percentage
and on defense eleventh and red zone percentage on offense,
and they scored one of those two touchdowns in the
red zone against the Eagles. They're undefeated this year, and
and they haven't had Davante Adams last two and a
half games, didn't Evan Dallas when they won, didn't have

(14:49):
him last night. He's the best red zone threat in
the NFL with the past two and a half years.
Lions are fourth in passing, twelfth overall on defense, fit
and red zone defense third completion percentage. When you go
through all these numbers and they're they're just there's no
real true negatives. It doesn't mean that any of these
teams are the best team in the NFL. I had

(15:10):
the Packers going to Super Bowl. I don't know how
that plays out, but I think you could make a
really really strong case that, uh, this is the best
overall division in football. I mean, look, go to any division.

(15:32):
The NFC South has always been like, oh, NFC South,
Atlanta stinks Tampa. You never know what you're gonna get.
That's two of the teams a f C West, all right,
Raiders a little better we thought. Broncos, I guess are okay.
But the Charges are very good right now. And even
the Chiefs as dominant they were last year, we lost
the last two home games, you know, so I think

(15:57):
you go through it and you're like, man, this is
the best division football and I'm not. Actually the Shirts
all that close. It's all that close. Wild series of
tweets that we got. Um. I do want to get
to this Lebron James deal where Lebron last night had
a statement that he didn't read. But we'll get to that.

(16:20):
Plus we get you an update here. Half past the
hour's welcome to Chris Simms seem at halftime of the
Notre Dame games impressive win over USC and of course
football night in America where it was the first half
was a blood letting at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Look,
I know the Chargers have had injuries, but that was
embarrassing how they started that game. I mean, we wanted

(16:42):
to everyone want to talk about Cowboys and and Browns
and all these other teams that are supposedly disappointing. This
is a Charging team won twelve games last year, best
record time for best record in the a f C.
They are two and four with a series of home losses.
How savable? How fixable is their season? Uh? It's not
fixable in my opinion from what I've seen over the
first six weeks. No way. It's just it's not gonna happen,

(17:04):
you know. It just it goes back to something we
talk about a you know, a lot every week, Doug.
It's just the games are won and lost with the
battle up front, and you saw what happened on Satday.
I'm so mad I picked the damn Chargers, Okay, because
I broke my own damn rule and I all, Philip
Rivers is better than Devlin Hodges, so I'm gonna pick him,
you know. And I just it's not all about the quarterback.

(17:25):
But the big issue is you said that there's injuries
the offensive line. Uh has not played well all year,
let alone being banged up. That Steelers front is real,
it's one of the best fronts in all of football.
And now it thinks that they lost seven step onto
it for the year with a pectoral injury. But they
just absolutely steamrolled that Chargers offensive line and then the

(17:46):
other side of the ball too. You know, yeah, there's
no Melvin Ingram right now, there's no Derwin James. Those
are issues, Let alone there a defense that did not
have enough size in the middle to begin with. I mean,
that's why we saw the New England Patres just run
the ball down their throat in the a f C
Divisional playoff game last year. I just don't see it
turning around this year. There's not enough of a run game.

(18:09):
I think the defense is just not big enough, physical enough,
missing you know, some of their best players. And Philip
Rivers is uh not at the age where he can
take this pounding and carry the team on a week
to week basis like he might have been able to,
you know, a few years back. Christim's joining us on
the Doug Otlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
let's let's get to what we saw last night. I

(18:30):
understand there's a couple of bad calls, and I understand
that the officiating seems to be a big point of
contention with a lot of people who cover and watch
the NFL. But I make the point like, look, we're
kind of holding these guys to an impossible standard. The
TV cameras are better, and it it ends up taking
away from the fact that was a damn good football game.
It was um Lions. Matt Stafford, known for the big mistake,

(18:52):
did not make the big mistake, and Aaron Rodgers had
about five or six Aaron Rodgers moments. You're like, I
don't think anybody else in football can do that. I
didn't take away from my viewing experience, but I do
think that fans and pundon's are allowing it to take
away from the actual football discussion. Where are you on
the officiating as opposed to what's actually going on the field. Yeah, well,

(19:13):
I'm with you. I mean, that was a great game,
and yeah, hey, the Lions got the short end of
the you know, the stick there as far as uh,
some of those calls, there's no doubt about that, you know.
And again, let's not forget one of them. The first
one against Trey Flowers happened to like ten minutes left
in the fourth quarter, So there's still a lot of
football to be played at that point. You just can't say, oh,
that would have changed the game or the game would

(19:34):
have been different. I mean, hey, the Lions offense only
had twenty four yards in the fourth quarter, so there
was issues there are as well. Um, I'm with you again.
You know Aaron Rodgers, Uh, he's special, you know, I
think that way he's he's the greatest quarterback I've ever seen.
And you know, most people can't even name the wide
receivers that are playing for Green Bay right now, and
yet he makes it happen. And last night was a

(19:56):
disaster in a lot of ways for Green Bay, whether
it was drop touchdown passes, fumbled punt returns, you know, uh,
balls off your face that end up being intercepted. Uh,
you know, Aaron Jones fumbling as a running back. But
the Green Bay is dangerous because of Rogers because they
do have a little bit of a run game this year,
and then we're seeing their defense can be real and

(20:19):
Mike Petton is a hell of a coach there. But
I'm with you. That's an issue all over the NFL
right now. This is the issue with replay. It's the
issue of the whole pass interference tobaccle from the NFC
Championship game. It's taking away from a lot of good
football that we've seen to this point. Because yes, every play,
every call is being dissected with slow motion replay, and

(20:41):
the referees are under such scrutiny. It's never been a
perfect game. I get that, but I will say this,
I just you know, you know me, I sit here
and watch film Ball Week. I do think the refs
are over officiating in a number of games right now.
You know, I just want to say, like, hey, when
in doubt, hold your flags, you know, let let the

(21:02):
players decided on the field. They're getting involved in a
two A few too many big moments for me for
my liking. Fair enough, Christim's joining us Doug Otlip Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Um, I thought Aaron Rodgers gonna,
I mean, this is the new Aaron Rodgers. When Jones
dropped that that was a willow wheel route, he had
a little like steam rout out the backfield. Yeah yeah,

(21:23):
I mean he hit him in the hands, in the
face mask, would have been a touchdown, could not have
been a better called explosive play. And you're like that
goes down as an incompletion, right like that, just that
that one should not be on the There was some
moments there to where you're like he's gonna lose his mind,
but he actually kept his composure and showed even at
this stage of his career, he's maturing. Yeah, exactly, he is,

(21:44):
you know, I guess uh, you know he was. He
was more caught. It looked like his head his eyes
wanted to pop out of his head a little bit
there a few times, and I'm sure he said a
few four letter words, but he kept it to himself.
And you're right between Aaron Jones. You know, Jimmy Graham
dropping an unbelieving both throw and throw right move into
his move into his left. The window is like two

(22:05):
ft wide. Put it right between the eight and the zero.
Dropped it. I'm with you, you know that. And you
know even in the interception there when they're driving down,
I know that wasn't a perfect throw, but i mean,
come on, NFL wide receivers are when it hits you
in the face, you're still still supposed to catch the ball. Uh.
But yeah, he's he's he's special that way. You know.
He can do things that I only think only a

(22:26):
few guys in the NFL can do. And I think,
you know, in his prime of course, and we're maybe
seeing the end of his prime at this point of
his career. Uh, he could do all this stuff on
a regular basis, you know. But the guys that can
do that kind of stuff right now in my homes,
Russell Wilson, you know, Deshaun Watson maybe. Uh, those four
guys from my money kind of separate themselves from the

(22:47):
rest of the quarterbacks in football right now. Uh, I'm
speaking of the homes. How much of their issues is
a lack of running game? How much is his injury? Yeah, well,
the the injury hurts, and it hurts more right now
because they're a little banged up on the offensive line.
You know, they're missing their left tackle, so they have
they have issues there. Uh you know J. J. Watton Houston, Texas.

(23:07):
That is a pretty good d line, So they cause
some issues they're there. You know, I give up on
the running game point. Okay, that's not gonna happen. That's
just not the way they're built. It's not Andy Reid's
DNA to run the ball. So they're not gonna do it.
They just need to invent every screen pass in the
history of mankind and have it available for every game.
That's their run game. Now, their offense Uh, it's built

(23:28):
on you know, Tyree Kill Mahomes, Travis Kelsey, Sammy Watkins,
who's not out there and playing right now. They want
to get in a shootout, and they depend on Mahomes
and their talent making big plays and Andy Green, Andy
reads aggressive play calling. You know. The one thing I'll
say and why teams have had to jump on them
one because yes, they've been injured, you know, to They

(23:50):
don't exactly reinvent the wheel on a weekly basis as
far as like I don't watch film and go, oh
my gosh, I've never seen this concept every before in
my life. No, they just kind of continue to attack vertically,
vertically vertically, and you know, more times than more times
than not, Mahomes is gonna make it happen. Now. The
other issue right now is he spends more time over

(24:11):
by you know, the gatorade bottles and he does on
the field. And that's really where I look at the
problem with the team right now. Kansas City has gotta
do something different on the defensive side of the ball.
You can't die slow deaths with the talent they have.
So my advice to Kansas City would be become a
blitzing team blitz, blitz, blitz and more blitz, and you

(24:33):
either cause turnovers or can cause havoc or the other
team scores a sixty yard touchdown, but so be it.
Then mahomes and everybody's back on the field again and
you're getting the shootout. And I like your chances that way.
But the way they're losing these games right now, They're
best people are on the sidelines and they can't go
down swinging and they can't go down like that. You
mentioned offensive line. Is that the biggest issue with the Rams? Yes,

(24:54):
it is. It is the hands down the biggest issue.
It was the issue against the Buccaneers. It was the
issue up in Seattle, and it was even it was
the worst of all this weekend. I mean, first off,
that forty d line and I think we talked about
this a little last week. It's real. I mean it's
it's in the combo for the biggest, most ferocious defensive

(25:14):
line in all football, and they ran over that Rams line,
and especially when their left guard, No Boom, got hurt.
I mean it was just mismatch after mismatch. But the
forty niners, yeah there, you know, they got three trunks
and Armstead and Buckner, and then you got d Ford
and Botha and a whole bunch of other guys behind
them who are phenomenal football players too, so they can

(25:35):
send waves at you. But yes, this is the issue
with the Rams. You know, they're not going to be
able to run the ball like we've seen them in
the McVeigh era, and the pass protection is shaky. I
don't care who was playing quarterback last week. I know
people are blaming Jared Goffer last week. They could have
put Superman back there last week. It was gonna be
tough sledding. There wasn't a lot of people open, and uh,

(25:56):
there was absolutely no protection at all. Chris Sims joining
US Football and Night in America, of course you see
him covering Notre Dame games. Georgia loses at home. Does
that help or hurt Notre Dame. I think it hurts them,
you know, ultimately, I do, because you know, the big
talking point with Notre Dame is, yeah, their strength of
their schedule this year. And you know, again it's not

(26:19):
it's not Notre Dame fault for their schedule. I mean,
it's not like they scheduled a bunch of cupcakes, you know,
USC Stanford. Some of these teams that you know are
perennial contenders and all that are having weak years and
that's just gonna hurt them overall. And yeah, they needed
Georgia to continue to be towards the top of the ranking,
so that loss looked good, you know, the way they

(26:41):
lost down there and Notre Dame. So I do think
it hurts them a little bit, Doug, Yeah, I tend
to agree. Although you end up with one loss, everybody's
else canna end up with a loss, or maybe maybe
two losses. I'm not sure. It's it's as it's the
killer's you know, because the problem is that people use
the transitive property, like, well, if Notre Dame lost to
Georgia and Georgie lost home to South Carolina, that means
South Caroline is better than Notre Dame. Like, yeah, that's

(27:01):
not really excellent. Yeah, that's not the way it goes.
And it's football, and some teams match up with different
teams and Georgia did not play good and from didn't
play good and it just wasn't their day. But it's
not acceptable at home, you know, especially against a team
that you are supposed to beat. And yeah, Georgia is
supposed to be one of those teams that's in the

(27:22):
conversation with Ohio State, Bama, Clemson, l s U. And
you know that they were kind of flirting all year
with not playing great and it finally kind of came
back and bit them in the butt. Yeah it did.
Let me let's go back to the NFL. How big
a how big a heat do you think there is
on Jason Garrett. I don't think there's big heat yet.
I mean, I'm not going to give hope up on

(27:44):
Dallas is still really talented. I'll say this because I
watched that film this morning. I really felt on the
offensive side of the ball, the players let the coaches down.
You know, there was there was a number of plays,
whether it was dropped passes, some off tar get throws,
some penaltyes. Hey, there was a few times for Ezekiel
Elliott where hey, listen, I love Ezekiel. I pounded on

(28:07):
the table for he should be the highest sad running
back in football. Well you are now, and now you
need to perform like it. And there was a few
runs Dug, I can't lie, I wrote in my notes.
I just said, listen, if this is Nick Chubb, McCaffrey,
Dalvin Cook, uh Leonard four net. These are house calls.
They're gone. It's it's sixty yard touchdowns and he's getting

(28:28):
fifteen and twenty yards and that's just not acceptable either.
You know, you gotta always evaluate the team and go
where's the money at? And okay, the Dallas, the money's
at that offensive line, that running back and if they're
not making some special plays to carry the team every
now and then, Yeah, the offense struggled and you know
there was there was some points and yards left out
there on the field. Uh And and I feel like

(28:49):
Ezeki Elliott right now looks like a step slow to me.
And that's a little concerning in my eyes, No, no,
no question about it. What about the Cleveland Browns um
obviously a difficult schedule, but continue to find ways to
lose games and struggle to run the football. And there's
Baker Mayfield. Um as is Baker Mayfield sealing lower than
some people thought because he was the number one overall pick. Well,

(29:11):
I think he's hitting a little bit of a just
a sophomore slump. He's uh there, there's just a few
things he needs to clean up now in that game.
You know. That's another game I watched this morning. They
outplayed the Seattle Seahawks. They outplayed him, you know. But
when you have a punt blocked in your own area,
then you know early on in the game, and you

(29:32):
throw an interception in the end zone, and you know
you're throw an interception at the end of the game,
and you're throw an interception in the middle of the game,
and Nick Nick Chubb fumbles as they're driving and they
get stopped on the fourth and one. I think that
all goes back to, like, you know, things you and
I have talked about. You know, there there is something
to learning how to win in the NFL and when

(29:52):
to take chances, you know, and when when to hold them,
and when to fold him and maybe you gotta take
a sack or do that. But he is a little
loose the ball, and even mechanically I see his feet
being off a little bit as far as where he's
throwing the bottle of the target. I feel like his
motion has gotten a little longer to where he reaches
back to try to like throw the hundred mile per

(30:13):
hour fastball where I'm gonna go. No, just throw at
you don't need to throw it a hundred miles per
hour right here. It's fine. It's little things like that.
And you know, yes, you get up twenty to six
and you make mistakes against the great quarterback and maybe
the m v P and football right now with Russell Wilson,
just like we saw last night. You let a team
like that hang around, they're gonna come back and bite
you in the butt. They're just it's just a matter

(30:34):
of time before a guy like Wilson gets it going
and gets the team, you know, on the right track. Chris,
great stuff, man, I know you've been busy traveling all
over the country. Really appreciates and spent it some time
of this year on Fox Sports Radio, be sure to
catch the live edition of The Doug gott Leap Show
weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific. Uh, come
over next your m v P so far, I'll tell

(30:55):
you who it is next. Every day this time the
Doug gotlet Show, we let Dan Buyer have some fun,
get to the topics of the day a while playing
a game. This is game tied on The Doug Gottlieb Show.
Dan Buyer, what's your game? Dog? The game today is

(31:19):
all right? One to three four things to rank today.
Let's start with the National Football League. Doug rank your
top three NFL MVP candidates alright. Number three Christian McCaffrey,
running back for the Carolina Panthers. Reason he wouldn't be
number one is they won last week and he didn't

(31:39):
have a great game. Right. You can win and win
without a guy having a good game in a big game.
That only signifies me you might not be the most
valuable player in the league. Number two Deshaun Watson of
the Houston Texans. He has had some games where he's
made some mistakes, miss some throws, but he's also carried
this team in many ways. Put Shaun Watson too, and
I put Russell Wilson at number one. Oddsmakers also have

(32:01):
Russell Wilson right now is the odds on favorite to
be named the NFL's Most Valuable Player. UH similar line
of thinking. But in the college game, Doug rank your
top three Heisman candidates as of right now. Number three
of all do Jonathan Taylor, running back Wisconsin, Yes, I do.
Hold other Wisconsin running backs and the nastiness of their
offensive line against him. Jalen Hurts didn't have a great

(32:23):
game but before that has been the best player in
college football. And Joe Burrow who introduced to the forward
past to all of the L s U Tiger Nation.
Joe Burrow number one. No Cuba Hubbard on the list,
but I think I think sheverage great. Um, he didn't
have a good game against him, try and they was
like Texas they lost. Um, and I just you know, look,

(32:45):
you got a benefit the doubt when you have when
you're undefeated. And Wisconsin's undefeated, and Jonathan Taylor was Jonath
Taylor had over two hundred yards rushing against Michigan and
he didn't play for half the game. No, their defense
at four six games is having a lot of point.
That's uh, Wisconsin something. I'll rank the top three teams
in college football. We'll see if those Badgers make the list.

(33:08):
We're gonna go l s U at three. We're gonna
Obama at two. In Ohio State at the Ohio State
has a Friday night affair against Northwestern this week in
a game that you can see on Fox Sports one. UM,
any reasoning just for Ohio State number one over those
two SEC schools who are one two in the top pole, No,

(33:30):
not really. I think they you know. I mean, I
think they're just really really, really sick and talented. If
if you had to pick a fourth yeah, m hmmm,
I mean I probably Clemson ahead of Wisconsin. I just think,
like Wisconsin, they're big wins, have been at home. Let's
see what happens when they get behind. I'm you know,

(33:52):
you got a new quarterback. I'm still not a buyer
into his ability to throw the ball downfield, like they
got big boys coming up. But but playing Michigan State,
who everybody's beating at home, and playing Michigan a game
in which they dominated Michigan, but the game would have
been different. The two plays early on that that really
changed the dynamic of that came. I like Wisconsin, and
I do think that Jim Leonard gets a job next

(34:13):
year college a pro their defense coordinator. But I've seen
this Wisconsin script who too many times? Do you remember?
And Jim Leonard was still playing for the Jets in
the NFL with Rex Ryan because he was the only
one that understood Rex Ryan's defense, like he was the
only guy. He may have been done playing and cashed
out and just didn't have anything left, but he was

(34:35):
the only one who could understand and then tell the
other guys what they needed to do. Uh. Finally, Dug
Switching to baseball coverage, He's underway at Fox Sports one
Game three, the Alcs coming up just after the top
of the hour ranked the top three pitchers still alive
in baseball's postseason. Um, I mean, Strassburg was amazing last night.

(34:56):
I'm gonna go Strassburg. He's been their best pitcher. I
will do. Uh, Luis severn Reno, Luis Severino at two,
and Garrett Cole at I think Herlin it was got
good last night. Sure, sure, sure are didn't even get
a comment, you know, Yeah, but wasn't he He's just

(35:18):
been he was just okay last series, right, I know,
I was just I think it's an interesting question. I mean,
I guess, I guess My thing is how they're going
now or all time? We'll just do it right now. Yeah,
as of this minute, who would you want on the
mound to pitch a game? And I mean look sures
you're against the Dodgers. He pitched sevent things one hit
ball four innings, assuming sevent things of four hit ball.

(35:39):
So he's pretty good. I mean sure, and he's one.
He's one of the great pictures of our lifetime. Maybe
I'll put Shuts there instead of Luis Severino. We're gonna
get Cole and Severino just in a matter of minutes,
and that's rank them. This is game time on the
Dunk Gottlip Show. Severs fairly pitched here, barely pitched. So

(36:01):
let'slet's see how he does today. Mentioned matter minutes there
ago they're doing the introductions Yankee Stadium. Theode thing is amazing,
isn't it. I mean I was there. I was in
New York. Okay, they literally remember they they said he
was done and they didn't even give him like a
week lead up. They're like, yeah, hey, Thursday's his last game.

(36:24):
Thursday's his last game, and that was it, and now
he's a Rod Corps on both two networks, the face
of Major League Baseball. Like that was that was what
three years ago? It's crazy. Three years ago in August
they were like, hey, but it was like a Friday
news dump, was like, hey, Thursday's day Rod's last game.

(36:45):
There'll be a press conference, goodbye, and now he's back.
Really amazing. Yes, music kind of the best way to
handle it, though, right, don't make it a big deal
and it goes away somewhat quickly. I get Yeah, if
you remember that season, they got rid of a bunch
of old pieces and he was you know, and they
that's when they brought in all these youngsters who have

(37:08):
now been in the bigs for a while. That was
Judge got called up and he wasn't good. It wasn't
good at all. So yeah, I mean that was that
was the Gary Sanchez came up and had like twenty
six home runs and forty games or something crazy there,
something absolutely crazy. Um Sanchez, let me look here, me

(37:28):
just just check that year he played fifty three games
and he had twenty home runs. I over him played
a little bit. That was two and they were like, goodbye,
see you, and now he's back big. I liked bet
love the Big Hurt and Big Poppy. All right, we'll
update you have Major League Baseball. Le's starts top of
the hour. How good the Packers? What do we see

(37:50):
last night? And the Revs win them the game. I'll
take you to Green Bay next in the Dug Out
Leave Show only on Fox Sports Radio, What Up to
Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio, brought to you by the
Good Folks at Discover Card. We treat you like you

(38:13):
treat you. Do do do Do Do Do Do Do
Do Do Do do do Um. Last night was a
great football game. I thought, really, I'm just a good watch.
And it feels like to me that though we've gotten

(38:34):
to this place where officials are calling too much, we're
covering it too much, we're discovering it too, we're discussing
it too much. And and maybe it's because we have
more people on TV that are fans that have ever
been fans before. Maybe it's because TV's are better and
we can see more. But it just feels like every

(38:56):
call that's made, we dissected, uh now, it was there
a penal if it should there have been a penalty called?
Troy Vincent came out and said one should have been
a penalty, it's closed. The other one should not. Got it.
I got it, we all saw it. We got it.
And the last third down with a minute thirty six
to go with the Packers down twenty two to twenty

(39:17):
would have been a makeuple field goal. Would have been
a makeuple field goal ended up being called, gave the
Packers a chance to essentially run out the clock and
kick uh nine point five field goal from twenty four
yards away. I got it. But let's not take away

(39:39):
from the fact that I think the line is pretty good.
Matt Patricia seems to have turned the tide there. I
think the Packers are really good. And despite some first quarter,
of first half, even second half drops, Aaron Rodgers kept
as cool, did some Aaron Rodgers spectacular things and then
one get another division game? All right. He's co founder,
Chief's Head TV and follow on Twitter at Aaron Niggler.

(40:01):
That's an a G L e R. He attends these
games sometimes sometimes he sits across street a bar. Did
you go to the game last night? I was at
the game and I was at the press box. How
are you, Doug? I'm great. Do you think the officiating
or the discussion of deficiating is taken away from I
got a football game that was I mean yeah, but
I mean that's been the case for the last couple

(40:23):
of years. Really. I mean, the Competition Committee, year after
year after year overreact to things and then enact new rules,
a new emphasis of rules that are already in place,
and we get this kind of madness that you were
just talking about, where we are dissecting every call, especially
late in games, that people want to attribute to the

(40:45):
entirety of the football game and its outcome, when really
there are plenty of other calls that you could dissect
that went one way or the other in every single game.
I couldn't agree more that I think, you know, there's
a complete over saturation in the media landscape and the
fact that everyone harps on this rather than talking about
the game. And is there a legitimate conversation to be

(41:07):
had about it? Of course yes, But like you just said,
I got it all right, it's been well covered. The
indignation is noted. Now can we talk about the football game? Yes,
because I mean, ultimately, there there are back calls in
every single game, and this is not the first game
that has been decided by back calls or push one

(41:27):
way or the other because of back calls. And it
sure as heck ain't going to be the last correct
correct All right, let's let's let's talk a rog he was,
you know, the offense was disappointing early on the season.
Then his best offensive outing, They couldn't score in the
red zones. He didn't Advantae Adams late against Philadelphigos. That's
only lost then they go in and they run the
ball over and through the Dallas Cowboys. And last night

(41:50):
I don't think the yards passing really reflected how good
he was, right, I mean, here he was outstanding last night.
He was on one. As the kids like to say,
I mean, when you've got pretty much everyone at your
disposal dropping a pass at some point or another, and
you keep finding ways to move the football, you keep

(42:11):
drives alive, you're making plays both on and off schedule,
and you're throwing some of the most incredible darts, some
of the most i mean absolute Hall of Fame type placement,
especially in that throw to the Lazard in the end zone.
I mean that was that was like okay. So there's
a couple other throws like the Jimmy Graham one that
he dropped that hit him between the eight and zero.

(42:31):
That's about his good. That's we all talked about the
Russell Wilson one where he was moving to his left.
Russell Wilson's was probably better, because it's right, it was
almost it was only one he would be Yeah, it's
Wilson's a little topper throw. But still that doesn't detract
from how amazing that throw was, right, moving to his left.
And but the touchdown through the Lazard for people who
don't remember, it was third and five, right, third and five,

(42:51):
and you're like, all right, well, they just gotta get
beyond the sticks. And it was a little out and
up and it wasn't the cleanest route in the world.
But he I mean, talk about putting it on a guy.
It was literally right in his hands. I mean it
was I mean, I came out of my chick. The
defender's your hole. That was the crazy thing. No, the
defense is really good there. He read the route perfectly

(43:13):
and that kid had a good night actually in their
the Detroit Secondary. But I will say, how about the
hootspa on the on on Lazard's part, You know the
play before they had gone to Rogers had gone to
him and they've gotten broken up, and he went right
back to the Hudle and said, you know, give it
to me again. Essentially in so many words, I mean,

(43:34):
for an undrafted kid in his second year, you know,
we got picked up off the practice squad from Jacksonville
last year, didn't play, and then has had coming into
this season. I think you have one catch, you know,
in the NFL for that to be your first NFL touchdown.
Come on, that's that's movie script stuff right there. And
he absolutely rose to the occasion on a night as
we were just talking about where everybody was seemingly shooting

(43:56):
themselves in the foot Packers couldn't get anything going offensively,
and here they are fourth quarter, gotta have it, yep,
Alan Lazard finally found someone to rise through the occasion. Um, okay,
what are we what are we making the defense as
of now? You know, it's it's it's interesting coming out
of that kind of you know, they have that game
against Dallas where they got ahead so quickly and kind

(44:17):
of made them abandon the run. I was really worried
coming into this game that, okay, that that was gonna
be a mirage as far as the lack of explosiveness
and big plays that Zeke Elliott had. Okay, here come
the Lions. They're gonna run all over the Packers, and man,
they showed that up. I think Dean Lowry had one
of his best games in the Packers uniform that really
kind of made them one dimensional. You know, obviously the

(44:40):
Lions caught him early. There was certainly a sense of
I don't say malaise, but they were just kind of
sleep walking there through that first quarter. Uh, you know,
I think the Lions had that bye week coming into
this game. They certainly saw some stuff on tape they
knew they could take advantage of, and that slee flicker
to open the game was an absolutely outstanding call because
with all the struggles stopping the run, you knew the

(45:01):
Packers are going to be kind of gunning for Bear
to try and you know stop the you know, power
formations trying. They're gonna fight on play action and they
had a you know, Darnell Savages out, so they have
will Redman in there is first start in the NFL.
He's gonna be all geeked up to try and get
there and stop the run. So I thought that was
an absolutely perfect play call kind of set the tone
there early. But hey, Mike Patton's crew, they were put

(45:23):
behind the eight ball a number of times pretty much
on every turnover they only resulted in three points, especially
that one after the fumble pump by Shepherd. I mean
that that could have been an easy seven, and that
game really could have gotten away from them, and they
rose to the occasion. That's always a very Negler, of course,
the co found of Cheesehead TV fall on Twitter at
Aaron Um, I do feel like Detroit the Patricia thing

(45:47):
is working, do you. Oh? Absolutely. And it's funny because
remember I'm back in the day. But you know, years
ago coach has got a few more games than like
five or six before the national narrative started to form
around them. But that really kind of happened last year
at Patricia. It was, oh, you know, this was a
mistake of a higher you know, he's he's clearly he's

(46:08):
been over his head coming into this season. You know,
all you've heard a lot of negatives and he's coaching
for his job. And so the second year, you know,
I mean, the time was you had like three or
four years to get your program in place and try
and make it work. Now, if you're not winning games
right away, you're in trouble. And I think this year
you're seeing what a good coach he is. I think, yes,

(46:29):
that that has some bounces go against them, but they've
been right there in every game. They're playing extremely well.
Maybe they don't have all the pieces quite yet as
far as personnel goes, but I think he's showing what
a good coach he is. I agree. It's one thing
for the Packers to be five and one. It's a
hard thing to have, you know, wins against every team
in their division. It feels like, you know, barring some

(46:52):
sort of catastrophic series of injuries, they don't go to
the playoffs. I mean, okay, so let's slow down because hey,
it's the Packers were talking about them. Of the you know,
twenty people on the injury list every week, you never
really know what's going on there, so injuries could always
be an issue. And you know that said absolutely, taking
control of the division really certainly helps your case as

(47:14):
far as making that push in the second half of
the season. You've got those in your pocket. You still
gotta win those other games. And in this league is
you know, week to week, I mean, things can change rapidly.
So it feels good. They're five and one. Uh, A
whole lot of football left to be played. But you
like him in the driver's seat with the wins in

(47:34):
the division. A lot as you like to, as you
like to tweet out, a lot of ball game left,
a lot of ballgame left full, a lot of ballgame left,
no doubt. Yeah, but you do um, do you think
the Vikings have figured it out? No, I think they're
that you talk about a week to week team. I mean,
it's funny. They are bullies in their house, right. They
are a very different team in that dome and in

(47:55):
that in that stadium. But you know, you get him
on the road, get a little more fit defense. You know,
Kirk Cousins has issues there. Or you get them in
the lights in prime time, he has issues there. So
I think they are very kind of you know, jackal
and hide type team. I still think they got all
the pieces they need. I just think it'll be interesting
to see if they can put together, you know, consistent

(48:18):
performances week after week after week, because we've seen this
now where you know they you've seen them in games
where the completely discombobulated and they can't get out of
their own way offensively, and then you see a game
like you know, two days ago, where Kirk Cousins is
thrown it all over the yard and looking like an
MVP type candidate. So yeah, I think they're The truth
is probably somewhere in the middle. They just need to
find some consistent Well let's circle back to the pack.

(48:41):
All of this without Davante Adams. How close is he? Well,
that's a million dollar question, right, I mean I never
expected him to be back quickly. Turf toe is notoriously
uh tough to come back from. It lingers a long time,
and if you aggravate it then that could sell real
trouble down the line. I wouldn't be sur if he
sits out one more game. Um, but look this this

(49:03):
time that these other guys are getting. And look, it
hasn't been pretty. It was certainly ugly at times last night,
but a guy like Alan's are stepping up. You saw
Jake Kumaro do some nice stuff in the first half.
You're gonna get that production enough to get you these victories.
When you do get Davante Adams back, then you're gonna
be cooking with gas with all this really valuable playing

(49:25):
time that these young receivers are getting. Lots of undrafted guys,
lots of late round guys. They need the reps. Uh,
it's just good that they're getting victories while doing so.
Aaron Negler go to Cheesehead TV or fall on Twitter
at Aaron Negler. That's n a G l e R.
Great stuff. Man. Glad you got a chance to watch
that one from both the stands and the press box.
Appreciate you giving us your feedback here on Fox Sports Radio. Absolutely,

(49:47):
thank a lot. You're the best man. A lot of
aaron Neglar's work. No one loves the pack and gives
more honest appraisal of what he saw, what to expect,
and everything that goes into it. Should follow him on
social media. All right, Lebron J Games has spoken in
regards to Daryl Morey and the kind in the China controversy.
Given my thoughts on what Lebron said next. Fox Sports

(50:30):
Are Rob Parker reporting that Marcus Peters give me be
traded to the Ravens. We're just impressed in Marcus Peters
head is still attached to his neck and they played
football after he got hit that picks six of the
the Tampa game. Right, Uh, all right, let's get after it. Um.
Last week was full of like a China controversy. China

(50:53):
controversy where Daryl Morey had a tweet supporting freedom for
Hong Kong on and of course that began a series
of bizarre statements and Chinese TV pulling the Lakers games.
You had several players, including Kyle Kuzma, losing out on

(51:14):
deals with Chinese companies while being there, They took down banners.
It was a mess. So Lebron James yesterday finally spoke
about the controversial tweet and everything that happened afterwards. Here's
l b J. We all talked about this freedom of speech. Yes,
we all do have freedom of speech, but at times
there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when

(51:37):
you're not thinking about others, you know, you only think
about yourself. So I don't believe I don't want to
get into a word or sentenced feud with Darryl with
Daryl Morey, but I believe he wasn't educated on on
the situation at hand, and um and he spoken, and
uh so many people could have been harmed, not only
financially but physically, emotionally, spiritually. So just be careful what

(52:01):
we say and what we do. Even yes, we do
have a lot of negative Okay, so let's let's let's
let's parse it down a little bit. Okay, let's parson down.
Lebron is right that you do have freedom of speech
and you're not free of ramification of that speech. So

(52:23):
the first thing is like, let's give credit to Lebron
for pointing out what I think he's going to learn
from this statement, right, which is like, you do have
the freedom of speech, but you're not a free of
ramification member freedom of speech. It's it's honestly now, a
lot like Hong Kong and the protest there, but it's

(52:45):
a lot like impeachment. Everyone says, well, impeachment, impeach him,
or you shouldn't have teach him. Do you actually know
that just because you're impeached does not mean you have
to resign as president of the United States, not mean
you have to be replaced? Do you actually know what
the process of impeach But it is Bill Clinton was,

(53:05):
in fact impeached, did not cause him to lose even
a day of work at the White House now one,
So part of what he's saying where like, look, I
don't know if Darrel Moore is educated on this thing.
I don't know if Darryl Moury is educated Darryl Moury
has obtained a higher level of education. Daryl Morey, by

(53:29):
all accounts, is brilliant, right like brilliant. M I T. Dude,
he's brilliant. But I don't just because you're M I
T and Lebron only graduated high school doesn't mean that
he knows more than Lebron does about Hong Kong. But
also we we don't know if he does. Lebron doesn't know,

(53:54):
And then Lebron goes that bizarre. A lot of people
could have been harmed, not just finding Actually you led
with finances, which is what a lot of this is about,
but what was it spiritually and physically and spiritually? Who
has hurt spiritually on this deal? You had a week

(54:15):
to come up with a statement, and this is what
you did. Here's what Lebron should have said. Right with
respect to Darryl Morey's tweet, obviously, the NBA has come
out and supported part of it and denounced part of it.

(54:36):
Supported his right to speak out, but also denounced the
fact that we have partners in China. I have partners
in China. I have been a champion not just a
free speech but of civil rights here in our country,
in any country, and I'll continue to fight that fight
while also managing my business interest here and abroad. But

(55:02):
with Lebron James is going to go through. Now is
welcome to really really being more than an athlete. Lebron
j has been in Lebron bubble. This is my problem
with him speaking out about athletes and how they are
using abuse. Like you were never a college athlete. You
don't know what you're talking about. You are in an
echo chamber. Anytime you're on the barbershop show the shop,

(55:28):
let's bringing our token white guy. Who is it? Gavin Newsom? Oh,
there's Gavin Newsom who can say something that will totally
agree with John John Stewart, Just Stewart, They're cool. Another
white guy who's apologizing for everything that white people have
done wrong. We'll all agree with him. Not not once
in the shop. Is there anybody going like, yo, dude,

(55:48):
you're wrong. Let me tell you why you're wrong. And
that's what people will do now now you've truly become
more than an athlete. I actually completely like if Lebron
James said came out and said, hey, I am a
supporter of every person's human and civil rights and I'll

(56:09):
continue to fight for right in this country, but we
have to understand it's a different country. Look, there's there's
some there's there are some truths to what Lebron saying
in that I think people are conflating the human the
civil rights and the human rights issues that China has
with their own people with what's going on in Hong Kong.

(56:31):
Those are actually you can actually separate the two. Hong
Kong's independence and fight for true independence has been going
on for a long time and will continue even after that.
And they're trying to get America to support them to
you know, so that there's a there's a growing battle,
a fissure between the American trade relationship with China. It's

(56:53):
as it is a super complex story. Hey, it's super complex.
What goes on in jury Jerusalem, you know, between the
Palestinians and the Israelis, it is it's super and and
if I heard somebody speak out who hasn't been there,
hasn't lived there, I would probably say, like, I don't

(57:14):
know how much they know about it. I'll only say this,
their view of the world, their view of each other,
is completely different than our American views of it. And
as much as we want our views to be their own. Like,
that's not how it works. Well, imperialism is not gonna

(57:34):
work right. Yes, it's a communist regime, but they're continuing
to evolve into more of a capitalist regime. This is
obviously going to be a huge l for Lebron. Um.
Now it's coming out that he is pressuring the NBA
to punish Darryl Moury, which would be even worse right

(57:59):
to punish Terrell Morey. And he would say it looks
not because of Freeman speech. It's you're not free ramification understood, understood,
But how most Americans take what you have said, no
matter how much you try to fix it on Instagram
last night, Lebron is this money over everything else? It

(58:25):
may not be fair, it may not, but well life,
it's not fair. And oh yeah, by the way, like
it's not a little money, it's a lot of money.
It's a lot of money. It's an that's ton of money.
They got a billion people, that's three commas with a B.

(58:47):
That is an unlimited, untapped resource of people who can't
get enough of NBA players and Lebron freaking James n't
get enough. And so what you're saying, is my to
a lot of Americans, is my business interest supersede my

(59:09):
interest for human rights and civil rights in countries outside
of our own. And that's a hard thing to manage.
But everybody thinks it's easy to be ahead of some
conglomerate business to say the right thing. I'll just say
what you think, say what you think, just support the

(59:30):
right causes, Like dude, Conflicting alliances leads to wars. That's
how it works. And maybe you gain money abroad, but
you lost some people here. The most vociferous defenders of
Lebron James are the left, the social media generation. Lebron

(59:57):
can do no wrong. Everybody's out to get him. He's
more than an athlete. He's the new Muhammad Ali. Did
that sound like Muhammad Ali? Because to them, Darryl Morey
came out and said, hey, they deserve basic human and
civil rights, and Lebron said, you shouldn't say that because

(01:00:19):
I make a lot of money off of China. It
doesn't mean that's what you said. But nobody cares what
you actually said. Nobody cares if Darren Morey is or
isn't educated on it. It came across it is perceived
as you saying money over everything and no take backs.

(01:00:47):
So you could have just gone no comment. But if
you want to comment on everything fair unfair, you're gonna
be expected to defend the humans, the lowest, uh, the
lowest and the totem pole. That's what the causes, that's

(01:01:08):
what the one that you defended. This is the believe
in something unless it could make it costs you a
lot a lot of money, right, I mean, look, Steph
Curry had a statement where he said essentially nothing. It
was a long Winery statement, we gotta do better, We're
gonna work together, and Adam silver and awesome and blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah. And look, I'm sure

(01:01:30):
Steph Curry is ticked. You don't think he's beloved in
Asia and in China. But what's the win and him
saying anything? But Steph Curry has never tried to portray
himself as more than an athlete Lebron has. Lebron wants
people to think he's the next Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Ali

(01:01:50):
gave up the three prime years of his career because
of what he believed in. Does that feel like what
Lebron did last night. Be sure to catch the live
edition of The Doug gott Leap Show weekdays at three
pm Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
I Heart Radio a app. In a couple of years,

(01:02:13):
sleep deporation will be an issue that's talked about, Like
the NFL with concussions. Well, I wanted to let that
resonate for a second. Okay, In the NBA, you play
back to back games. You know they've cut them back
substantially to where you know you're talking ten fifteen times max.
Not even think is that many. You're playing back on

(01:02:34):
back to back nights, and it's a it's an arduous schedule, right,
Like you play in Boston, You get done, you do media,
you take a shower, you go to the airport, you
get on a plane. You gotta fly in that night.
They don't him fly in day of the game, lying
that night, and uh, and you know you get up

(01:02:58):
and the next day and play. But you're like, dude,
I get sleep. Sleep deporation was as dangerous as playing
with concussions. How come Noah, moms of twins have CT
It's just and NBA guy man taking themselves way too seriously. Uh,
do we have Mercedes listener. That's awesome, A great catch.

(01:03:21):
Last night, boy, Aaron Rodgers was on fire. I want
to know what Rogers said when Taylor dropped that ball
in the end zone. That's what I want to see.
He's there. Mercedes Lewis joins us in the Doug Out
Lip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um, I think actually
the play is is coming up right here. I'm watching
the replay on NFL Network. There was a couple of
drops there in the first half of a couple of

(01:03:44):
dimes from Aaron Rodgers. What was he like in the
Huddle's He's pretty chill, man, He's pretty chill. And the
good thing about Aaron is he's the same way in practice.
You know, it's like one of those guys that just
leaves by example. But you know, he explained so much
out of you. And I think, you know, obviously, playing
this game, it's already enough personal responsibility if you really

(01:04:07):
care about it, you know, did you you you really
care about you know, being accountable when your number is called,
and being when you're where you're supposed to be when
you're supposed to be there, and doing what you're supposed
to be doing. So you know, I think Aaron does
a good job. Was just not adding to that sort
of speak. And we do a lot of things to

(01:04:28):
go and closed doors, you know, and uh, you know,
he's been great to be around. Did you hear Spanish
after the game? I didn't. We'll get it for you,
Mercedes Lewis joining us in the dug Otlip Show on
Fox Sports Trading. You're down thirteen nothing to start the game.
But it didn't feel like you guys. You know, so
many teams get out of their game plan, they get

(01:04:48):
out of the script and they're just like, all right,
let's just get back and let's let Aaron sling it
and throw it. It felt like felt like you guys,
didn't you stuck to the script. Is that what actually happened? Yeah,
for sure, I think you know that. I think that's
one of the big differences this year with you know,
having the floor and here and kind of uh combining

(01:05:09):
together to put together the best game plan so that
you can't go out there and execute and you know,
just always sticking to the plan. You know, it was
never really out of reach like that two possession game.
It felt like, you know, with the plan that we had,
we felt like we can go in there and you know,
as long as we execute, come away with points. And
I think that was the biggest The biggest thing was

(01:05:32):
going out there and you know, minimizing the times that
we shoot ourselves in the foot, right, because you know,
when you've got twelve back, there is not necessarily what
the other team is doing, what the defense is doing.
It's about our execution. As long as you have twelve
back then and you can execute. Um, I like our chances. Okay,
So it feels like there's almost always two or two

(01:05:54):
plays in one. Right, there's the play you run and
then there's all right, twelve is moving his feet and
that the lines did the us They could have just
trying to keep him in the pocket so he couldn't
extend it so he couldn't go to kind of street
yard football. Um, what what is when when a play
is called? Do you know already what the what your
section second option is if he extends to play or

(01:06:16):
is that simply kind of reading Aaron and reacting to
the defense. That's that's a good question. So I mean,
when we when we get out there, we haven't played
us called, then we have another potential play that could
be called based on what the defense has given us,
and then we have another set of options and plays

(01:06:36):
based on what Erran sees. So whether he's gonna signal,
whether he's going to deviate and call his own. Um,
you just have to be sharp and and and be
on top of your steps because it could change at
any moment. Obviously, when you know he's rolling out the
pocket and we get off schedule, you know that's Aaron
being errand and improvising and doing what he does best. Um,

(01:06:59):
so you gotta really be on it. And I think
that's what you know on the floor and Aaron, you
know them to being so intelligent and offensively minded, I
mean special special. When we're clicking, I imagine considering where
you where you had last played, the accuracy has to

(01:07:22):
be just a little bit, a little bit a little
bit better. Mercedes Lewis joining us on the Doug Gottlieb
Show on Fox Sports Radio. H The Lizard Kid was
also he was at Jacksonville practice squad guy who all
of a sudden gets thrust in and he has that
that out and up where where Aaron finds him for
the touchdown that got you to within two points. But

(01:07:44):
he had dropped a pass on on the previous place.
Third and five. Were you in the huddle on that
player on the sidelines, No, I was on the sideline. Um,
how would you describe that throw in that catch? Are
we talking about the touchdowns? Well? I mean, Alan is
a guy even from camp, you know, he was always

(01:08:06):
just showing flashes, right, so whether it be a receiver
or on special team where he was really making his
hat during camp, you know, and really pushing forward to
make this team. He was just always a guy who's
going to give everything he had so that you know,
if if there was ever a situation where he dropped
the ball in practice or he ran the wrong route

(01:08:27):
or anything like that, you know, it's not not from
a lack of want to or somebody's not. In his book,
very intelligent guy six five what two thirty? I mean,
he's just a good dude, has a good attitude, and
you know he was just ready to ready for his
moment when it came. And so you know when he
made that catch and something that he's done routinely in practice,

(01:08:49):
especially you know, going against our defense and him being
on the scout team, he's done it. Uh, so you
know he was in that situation last night and came
through in a big way. So I'm you know, I'm
proud for a young guy. All right, you're a so
cal cat right long beach poly originally. So you gotta
have some Spanish in your game. Here's here's Aaron Rodgers
after the game being interviewed by ESPN Deportez's that's on

(01:09:11):
the kipoost. It's a great group of guys. Uh oh
my god, I missed that. Man, is your Spanish better
or worse? No? My Spanish is for keeto very words.

(01:09:35):
Oh man? Uh well look man, hard fought game, come
back from thirteen. Nothing exciting, exciting finish, last thing. Lion.
Lions fans are saying, hey, the Revs lost us the game.
How much of an effect on the game do you
think those two hands the hands of the face call

(01:09:55):
had um? I mean, obviously, you know, to get it
goes both ways. You do not even know what you're
gonna get as far as the refs um, you know,
And if it was on the other way around, I mean,
Coach la Ford would be in our locker room saying
that we had our opportunities to win the game and
we didn't and I think that's you know, all of

(01:10:15):
what I'll I'll comment as far as the rest, I
think the game was back and forth. You know. I
think both teams, you know, have their chances, and I'm
just glad that we were able to finish. Merced is
great stuff. Congrats on the wind and we appreciate you.
Join us on Fox Sports Radio. No, I appreciate you, boss,
Thank you. All right, that's Mercedes Lewis joining us, long

(01:10:35):
time pro, former pro bowler of course, long time in Jacksonville.
Join us on the Doug Gotlie Show on Fox Sports Radio.
What have the playoffs taught us about Bryce Harper? You'll
find out next. Be sure to catch the live edition
of The Doug gott Leap Show weekdays at three p m.
Easter noon Pacific every day of this time in The
Doug Gatland Show and Fox Sports. Right, and we played

(01:10:56):
for a port previous show on Fox Sports want of
Fox Sports Troy, do we call it? Here's Alex Rodriguez
on Fox Sports One talking about Bryce Harper. Bryce Harper
has nothing to do with the struggling pitching in Philadelphia
with some of those injuries. But without a doubt, you
take all that pressure you know, I call it the
circus that traveled with me. Uh, it comes with you

(01:11:19):
and it comes to Philadelphia, and that takes maybe a
year two or sometimes three or maybe never to adjust
to that. And the same is true for the Nationals.
You decrease the pressure, you become a sub story, not
the main story, and all of a sudden you look
up in the Nationals. Hey, they're pretty pretty good. In
history repeats itself, Colin, when you look at Ken Griffey

(01:11:41):
went to trade it to UH Cincinnati by Pat Gillick.
We got Mike Cameron back. The next year, we went
to the playoffs. Then I left, and in two thousand
and one they bring Intro and they break the all
time record for wins in a season. It happens more
than you think. But base was a funny game. At
the end of the day. The one common thing is
analytics is trying to bring you down to the most

(01:12:03):
important thing is bullpen. I'm still a believer that strong
starting pitching, veterans starting pitching works. And there's no doubt
that you have the Nationals with two horses at the top,
and you have the Houston Astros here with Garret Corn
Berlin they're leading the way over here. All right, Well,
there's two different parts postseason versus UH with with the
bullpen and the starting pitcher, and versus the regular season.

(01:12:25):
What what ever Rod is talking about is very accurate,
though obviously he lived it. Is you know, Bryce Harper
leaves the Nationals and now the Nationals are one game
away from going to the World Series. And whether it's
traveling circus or in college athletics, a lot of times
coach will tell you, like they don't really want the
new stadium, the new arena. They want to say, the
new stadium, the new arenas on the way right, They'll

(01:12:45):
want the new UH facilities, football facilities, basket facilities, training facilities.
They don't want the new stadium because what happens when
you do a new stadium, Yeah, bigger expect higher expectations, right,
and a loss is seen is well, no excuses. Now
we got to say that we got the facilities. Want
you get the practice facility, we got the weightlifting whatever

(01:13:06):
that you want. When the truth is you're still the
same program, you're still the same team. Well that that's
what happens with with baseball. With you know, when Bryce
Harper goes to Philadelphia. Much like going into New Stadium,
you get ridiculous expectations and people lose sight of Hey,

(01:13:32):
they went out in big game hunting and got Bryce Harper,
but what do they get in terms of overall quality
of starting pitching. So it's it's not just a buyer beware,
but it's a buyer needs to understand that, yes, you
landed the big fish, Yes you get that for I
get thirteen years, twelve more years. But but even though

(01:13:56):
you that bump you get in uh season ticket, it's
the second you sign a superstar with it comes lofty
expectations and if you do not achieve anywhere near those expectations,
people are gonna lose their jobs. Say it was actually
the perfect guy to bring on that severy no continues

(01:14:17):
to struggles allowed a second run here, it's to nothing,
astros um over the over the Yankees runner at first
two outs, top of the second inning, and I think
Brantley's I play yeah, Brantley to play man, Yeah, that
scary one in Game two? Or hit that line drive
and hit the security guard inside their own dugout. That

(01:14:38):
was a tough one. That was a tough one. Eric
Mangini joins the show upcoming next, how much shuld we
discuss officiating? How much should we discuss the actual gameplay?
And is Aaron Rodgers the best quarterback he's ever seen?
We discussed next in the Dug Outlup Show. Fox Sports

(01:15:21):
Baseball on f S one. Garrett Cole neighbor of mine,
true story, neighbor of mine. We own the house that
he lives in the off season, but I've never actually
seen him there. Garrett Cole, Who's uh? Right now? I've
been giving a two nothing lead, bottom to one out
at Yankee Stadium. I don't usually say this like this
is my When I switched jobs from the other place

(01:15:43):
where I used to be air work with Eric Mangini
to one of the other places, I had like four
months where I didn't work maybe yeah, and it was
miserable just because I loved I love doing a radio show.
I love having I get everything I want to say
about sports and other stuff off my chest. But if
I could be at Yankee Stadium for ALCS playoff game
or World Series game day game, I would be there.

(01:16:05):
I don't know, and I people don't get into the
new Yankee Stadium. They're like, oh, it lacks what people
didn't urinate enough in the hallways or something. It's beautiful.
It's like they took the old stadium and made everything
better about it, and the Yankee still play there anyway,
Cole is gonna get a second fly out as as

(01:16:27):
two outs now bottom two at Yankee Stadium and the Astros.
The Astros continue to lead guy who's coached in New
York with the New York Jets, of course, been the
head coach to Cleveland. Brown's longtime assistant in the National
Football League, and you see him on Fox Sports ones
First Things First, as well as other shows. He's the
man genius. He's Eric Mangini. He joins us on the

(01:16:48):
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Coach. Um My
takeaway on last night is, I know, with fans, it's
really easy to blame the officials, and I know even
with players and pundits now it's easy to Hey, there
were two very very sketchy hands to the face called
one appeared to be a phantom. One got it. But
that was a good football game and one of the

(01:17:09):
great quarterbacks in the history of the game was on
his game and he didn't lose his mind when players
kept dropping the football and we had a close one
late like I'm I air on the side of the positive.
How much do you believe the officiating should take away
from how we view that game. Well, you can go
to half of the markets, half the NFL markets, and
they're complaining about the officials. Every single game, someone has

(01:17:32):
a complain about the officials. But the thing is it's
it's human area. It's part of what what happens in games,
and they've tried to make it better through replay and
it has gotten better. Coaches have the opportunity to challenge things,
Things are being reviewed, there's a lot of of of
safeguards in place, so it's better than it has historically been.

(01:17:53):
And when you look at plays in in real time
versus slow motion replay on TV, it's really easy to
criticize the officials, but it's a hard job, and it's
no one's ever going to be completely happy with the
way the game is officiated. But it's better than it
has been, and people have the opportunity to correct things
that we're wrong. Yeah, I'm I'm with you. Um. The

(01:18:16):
problem is you can only correct some of the things
that were wrong, right, It's like you're halfway like, well,
you can correct this one judgment call, but not all
judgment calls. Right, But how long do we want the games? Don't?
It's better than it's better than that than it ever
has been. And throughout the history of the NFL, you're
on a bunch of wrong the wrong side of calls,

(01:18:38):
and a bunch of the right side of calls, and
typically over time it averages out, and it's it's disappointing
when a game is lost because of it. Um, you know,
but I've I've been on I've been both sides of that,
and it's just human error. It's it's part of of
what happens. It seems like the Matt Patricia thing is
working in Detroit. Am I wrong? Well? Look at with

(01:19:01):
with any of these programs, it's not magical. It doesn't
happen overnight. And he came in and he's put in
a a very disciplined, demanding culture and that's not easy
for everybody to adjust to and it's going to take time.
And if you give him more time, it should get
better as they continue to get players that fit their mold,

(01:19:23):
as people understand what he's trying to get done, as
as the reps build up, if the scouting department understands
what he's looking for. There's this for us to, you know,
have instant success, have instant competitive ability every single season,
and it just doesn't work like that. So yeah, it's

(01:19:43):
it's working. I'm glad it's he's having some success because
hopefully that will buy him time to continue to build
on what he's put in place. Eric van Jani joining
us in the Gatlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Obviously,
you've worked with Brady, You've worked with some of the
best in the game. How would you characterize what what
we're seeing from Aaron Rodgers. Well, it's look, I think

(01:20:05):
any head coach who had gone in there would would
have success with Aaron Aaron Rodgers. When you have a
player like like he is, you've got a pretty good
chance to win every game or at least be competitive
in every game, and it looks like each week there's
more and more comfort level with what they're trying to
get done. That whole uh, they're not going to let

(01:20:27):
him audible or disagreement over how much he get audible
in the preseason that was overblown. He's he's making a
lot of adjustments at the line of scrimmage, and he
should be because he's got a wealth of experience and
and he gets him into a lot of good plays.
This is going to continue to improve as they work together.
But you've got a special quarterback. You've got a chance
every week. He made some throws last night they were

(01:20:50):
just throws, and then the place he made to you
after he extended the play. He's look, he's really really good,
and as he gets used that system, it's just gonna
keep getting better. I tend to agree with you, all right,
what's wrong with the Dallas Cowboys. Well, there there's a

(01:21:11):
team with with high expectations and every year they have
high expectations and you look at what happened last year.
They were five and five last year. Before they want
on to run, they end up going to the playoffs.
They want a playoff game it's it's not really that
out of character with with how they've operated. Is it
what they want? No, not at all. And when you

(01:21:32):
change offensive coordinators, and you have change over almost every
season like they've had with with coordinators and coaches, there's
an adjustin period and you've got a young offensive coordinator
and they're trying to figure out are they going to
be a passing team? Is this going to be driven through?
Ezekiel Elliott? How good is Dak Prescott? You know, the
Dak Prescott question is a huge question. And for me,

(01:21:54):
the special quarterbacks are guys and you've heard me say
this before that are forced multipliers that make everybody else
around them better. And you always hear that discussion with
Doc about how he needs weapons, he needs the offensive line,
he needs seek to do certain things. So it's going
to be interesting, especially this week it gets it depleted
Philadelphia's secondary. Whether or not he goes out and wins

(01:22:16):
the game, I feel the exact same way. I think
he's fine. I think I liken him to Draymond Green,
right when when you have a bunch of guys around him,
you know that can make shots and he can just
make you know he can just be himself. He's fine,
but you're not gonna give him the ball and say
go win a game for us. That's not who he is.
And you know, the question becomes, what's the financial value

(01:22:38):
to that as opposed to kind of replacing that, And
that's that's a that's a huge question for the for
the for the Cowboys in the future. Um, you've been
in Cleveland. Um, but but this Cleveland is interesting. But
you talked about culture you try to change, didn't have
a time really right to change the culture. Um, but
you've been you've been a head coach before, and you've

(01:22:59):
been a part of programs that did and established different culture. Otherwise,
my feelings about Freddie Kitchens is it's a it's a
failure from the beginning because he didn't come from a
different place. He's not coming to establish any sort of culture.
He's just trying to allow it and coach it to evolving.
And they don't even know what winning feels like, taste like,

(01:23:21):
senses like, because you're you're guessing how to get there.
And that's among other issues. Probably their biggest issue is
that fair Well, look, you got to give Freddie a
little bit of time here, he's the first time head coach,
and and he's in this situation, and and and culture
is about everybody, and and in Cleveland it's been more

(01:23:43):
a personality driven than culture driven. And that's a problem
when you have a cult of personality. When you've gotta
feature Baker Mayfield, when you've got a feature Odell Beckham,
when you've got to when you've got to pacify all
these personalities, it doesn't become about winning the game. It
becomes about making everybody happy. And what's going to really
make everybody happy is winning the game. So so you've

(01:24:04):
got to get that understanding of this is how we're
going to operate as an organization. And you're gonna fit
in or you're not going to fit in. But there's
been there hasn't been that drive there. There hasn't been
that that force there. So now you've got all these
different personalities. Look, look how many Look I don't begrudge
anybody from doing ads or any of that stuff, but

(01:24:27):
Baker Mayfield's got a thousand ads and a thousand interceptions.
And and it's just like, focus on the football, forget
about what people say about you on Twitter, Forget forget
about all that stuff. Just focus on what's important, which
is getting better at playing football. And once they start
doing that and stop h hearing all the noise and

(01:24:51):
being part of the noise and generating noise, there'll be
so much better off. Eric Mangini joining us in the
Doug Outlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Is it fixable
with their personnel? Yeah, definitely. They they go through a
tough stretch here and and every one of these games
they've they've flashed really good things. You don't have three

(01:25:11):
turnovers last last week or the four turnovers I think
it was. You know, that's a that's a totally different situation.
And I know you could say that for most games.
But Baker Mayfield in college was good at for taking
the football. This is not something that that he's always
had as part of his game. So I imagine he
can do that again. And and you go into every season,

(01:25:32):
Doug with with who you think you're gonna be, and
the really good teams figure out who they need to
be to win those games. And and this is probably
gonna be a Nick Chubb driven team, and everybody coming
to terms of that will go a long way if
the season gets better in terms of who they're playing
later on. So I can see them going through a

(01:25:52):
little bit more of a rough patch and then suddenly
having a birthband of season. Whether it'll be enough, I
don't know, and whether they'll come to terms with what
they have to do to win, I don't know whether
they can do that either. We we talked so much
about the teams that are disappointing, right the ones we had,
the Chargers, the Cowboys, the Browns that we had to

(01:26:13):
expect change. Who's the team that's most surprising to you
that's having a successful season. Well, I think the level
of success that San Francisco is having is is a
little bit surprising. Although when you look at the volume
of first round draft picks that they have on the
on their defensive line and the ability that they have
to rush the path or with with all different guys,

(01:26:36):
it makes sense and and I didn't anticipate them being
as uh as good as they are at this point. Um.
But you know, every every season, dog we get those
teams that that jump out and then fade. So it's
going to be interesting to see whether they can maintain
this momentum because now expectations are changing in San Francisco.

(01:26:58):
Pressure changes in San Francisco of the way people play
the forty Niners changes, and they haven't won a lot
of games uh in the recent past, So they're learning
how to win and they're learning how to deal with success.
But I'd say that's that's probably the biggest surprise for me.
Marcus Peters has traded from the Rams to the Ravens.
Um Uh, what what's going so wrong? Is it just

(01:27:20):
the offensive line? What are the issues? The biggest issues
in l A. Well, Well, there's another team that has
had incredible health over the last couple of years. They
had continuity on the offensive line that uh overall very
few injuries and and that went a long way. And
then they had a lot of success, which that success

(01:27:41):
with with all the different personneze that they had in
the building help help moderate that and and it built
on on itself. But every team is going to go
through transition. And they lost a couple of offensive linemen
and that hurt. They've had injuries, and now they're dealing
with it with a whole different experience. They they've dealt
with success. Now now it's how they're going to deal

(01:28:02):
with adversity. I don't think the things are are unfixable
there either they score a lot of points. Uh defensively,
They're gonna have to adjust and and and figure some
things out. But this is another team that could easily
right the ship and go on a run. Awesome stuff.
Eric Mangini, of course, you see him on Fox Sports One.
You see him on Colin Show as well, the former

(01:28:24):
head coach the Browns and the New York Jets. I
got left handed quarterback. Few to work with. Next time
you're in l A. I appreciate you join us. All right,
we'll talk to you soon. Eric Mangini joining us. James
Bradberry from the Panthers joins us. What's it been like
to ride the Kyle Allen wave of success? You'll find
out next. Be sure to catch the live edition of
The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m. Easter

(01:28:46):
noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio Whip Doug Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio. Let's check
in on Cowboys Dation. Here's Jerry Jones on the status
his head coach, a lot invested in and Jason Gard
He's had a lot of years that he's been a

(01:29:07):
part of the Cowboys and he's evolved into what I
think is a top coach. Uh, he would be a
very sought out for coach if he were at here
in the open market. Yeah, I don't well whether or
not he'd be sought out, right. Look, I think he's
viewed as a good coach. That's that's not really the

(01:29:30):
reason to keep him, right, Well, you know that's like, well,
I don't want to break up with her because if
I break up with her, somebody else wants to data.
That's not really Yeah, but is she good? Does she
treats you well? Is she a nice person? Is she
into you like you guys have a good relationship? Right, Like,

(01:29:53):
isn't that kind of more important? Stephen Jones add that
he's not on the hot seat. Um, I just I
think that part of it is expectations. Part of it
is they don't have great offensive line. You got a
young play caller, first time he's callin plays, and you've
got a quarterback who reputation wise, is better than the

(01:30:15):
actual product. Yes, Ryan, I don't think Jason Garrett is
one of the elite coaches in the NFL. And I
know that losing three games in a row is clearly
not ideal for the Cowboys right now, but there's still
very much in the with their division. Wouldn't it seem

(01:30:37):
like a huge mistake to try and fire Jason Garrett
mid season unless it totally fell off the rails, like
five or six games down the road, of course. I
mean firing anybody mid season, that's when your season is
a disaster. Their season on a disaster, right, Like, I'm
not the only one who thinks their season. Part of
it is Like we're sitting here and going like, oh,

(01:30:57):
the Cowboys still type of first place. The Giants aren't
better than them, Redskincers, hell, aren't better than them. They
play the Eagles at home, you know, they still they
go to New York, take on the Giants, Vikings at
home at Detroit at Patriots, Bills at home at Bears,
Rams at home at Eagles, Redskins Like yeah, I mean there,
it's ten wins wins that division, maybe nine. That may

(01:31:21):
not be your personal expectation when you in the playoffs,
don't It doesn't matter. They just win games. So I'll
tell you though, if you don't have Tyrn Smith, their
entire everything changes for them, always has, always has. He's
the best player on their team. Carolina Panthers have won
four in a row. They got the Niners coming up,

(01:31:45):
and I think the big question is after the you know,
you got the bye week this week. Cam Newton is
supposed to start practicing after the bye week. What do
you do at quarterback? You know? I mean now, it
was a little different Ruth, the Tony Romo think because
he wasn't ready until late in the season. But Tony

(01:32:06):
Romo was the better quarterback then Dak Prescott as a rookie.
I think Tony Romo is always gonna better quarterback than
Tony than Dak Prescott. Is his thing. He couldn't stay
healthy and and I don't I'm not sure, you know,
like long term. I've never been a real big Cam
Newton guy that said, like, Kyle Allen's not keeping this job.

(01:32:28):
He's just not. Mccam obviously was hurt and playing hurt,
and you only want him to come back when he's
fully healthy and maybe come back and it's the Niners.
Is not a good idea. You let Kyle Allen handle
it and see if he can get you through that game.
But this is Cam Newton's team. I don't think anyone

(01:32:50):
thinks otherwise, right, I don't think anyone thinks otherwise. Oh
it was fun? Why last night? It was legitimately fun watching.
I like the Packers white uniforms. Are those are those
considered their color rush uniforms that they were? Yes? Jan

(01:33:11):
Buyers getting his thumbs up. Yes. Why didn't the Lions
wear it? The Colorussian forms? I'm not sure we usually don't,
you know? Then they have one. They actually have an
all gray set um. You could go all blue with
what they had, but I'm not sure why they didn't
Honolula blue. I like saying Holleoluah. I really like the

(01:33:31):
Lions uniforms there when they put black in again, such
a bad decision when sports teams do that. But when
you just go back to the silver and the blue,
I think I think they're really sharp. Yeah, I think it.
I think it depends on the team, right that goes
to the black whatever um. But yeah, I mean the
Hollelula blue is unique until this is a little bit

(01:33:52):
just feels a little bit darker than the old Hollela blue.
But I like it. I'm with you. Black and gray
gray is like my favorite non neutral all their color.
It goes with everything hide stains really really well. Right,
Let's just be honest. Those of us who get stuff
on everything. Love a little gray, love a gray. My

(01:34:13):
son asked me. We had this discussion the other day
where riding bikes had it again last night. Favorite uniform
is what Dan buyers who in the NFL. H My
favorite helmet is the Bengals. It is the best, he said.
His favorite uniforms of Bengals were really I think it's
the best helmet. I think their jersey stink, which one's
all of them? I think the all white their color

(01:34:35):
rush are really good. Yeah, that that would be That
would be better than this splitting the middle on the
orange and black and what is what? There's kind of
like that that two thousand era where the Titans had
at the Seahawks had it at one time. The Cardinals
still kind of do where you you don't know if
it's an orange jersey, if it's a black jersey, it's
a white jersey. But I think the best helmet is Cincinnati's, Okay,

(01:34:57):
I asked, jersey. But you're you're good, you're good helmet.
Just you caught me off guard. Music? Do you want
to hop in on this? As far as you're I'm
a big fan of the Dolphins. Teal Dolphins Teal like
like it? Yeah, I actually I like a lot of
teams whites like I like the Giants whites more than
the Giants blues. Um, you think the Bengals hel much

(01:35:20):
is better than the Ram helmet. Um, I like the
Rams helmet, but I like I just like the Bengal stripes.
Same thing with the Viking horns. I like that. Yeah,
that's unique. What about you Ramos? Are you? Because I'm
going to be a Homer and I and I've always
loved the Rams blue, the blue and the yellow, gold
or whatever? That's no which one you like? Do you

(01:35:42):
like the gold or do you like the one? I'm
sorry to gold? The blue with the yellow. The ones
they were in the Super Bowl against the Patriots, those
are my favorite. I love those uniforms. They should wear
them every home. Why they went back to the whites,
I have no idea. But whatever, aren't the whites the originals?
Isn't that the old l A Rams. I don't know
about the ones right now. I know the helmets were
the old Allie Rams the white horns, but um, I'm

(01:36:04):
not a fan of that. Stuff. They haven't been able
to introduce a new uniform which had the gold in
it the the so that's kind of crazy. It's like
that's kind of still a connection from the St. Louis days,
is there's a little bit of gold on that white
jersey that ye. Yeah, the two best jerseys I think
aren't even in existence anymore. Buccaneers creamsicle and Oilers powder

(01:36:26):
blue with red well, like the Chargers powder blur are
are just as good. The charger logo is great. I mean,
I I like it. It's one of them about the chargers, Like,
I don't even know how they how were they? Why
did they do San Diego Superchargers? Like what was the
what was like Green Bay Packers was a packing area, right,
like packing company made sense? Cleveland Brown's Brown family owned it, right,

(01:36:50):
So how did they get Sandy Chargers was like Houston Oilers,
It made sense. It was in Houston Oilers got it?
How do the chargers thing? Does anybody know? I do
not know. Weren't they the l A chargers first though
they had a horse, Yeah, but what was the what
was the charger element to it? I'm not sure cell

(01:37:12):
phone chargers weren't there that, you know, the superchargers, test
the superchargers. That's why they didn't. God, let's got it
right here. This is according to Wikipedia. I liked it.
This is from the original general manager, Frank Leahy back
in nineteen sixty. I liked it because they were yelling

(01:37:35):
charge and the sound in Dodger Stadium at USC made
it sound like charger like chargers charge. And then he
just sounded like the way that it sounded. There's there's
something stadiums that's gone away, right, much like sauer Kraud
going away charge. When was the last thing you did that?

(01:37:56):
I think, yeah, what, yeah, something like that. Let's be
sure to catch the live edition of the Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific Doug
Otlip Show here on Fox Sports Trader. I was, I
was reading about our next guests. Um uh his his
preparation right, he is. He is a huge preparation guy.

(01:38:17):
He's got a routine over over the last couple of years.
First day of the week, he first and second down trends,
and then he spends a day on third down trends
and he wraps us up with red zone review. All
that stuff. Now he's got the week off. Is he
dealing with himselves wasting time with us? That's that's what
he's That's that's really what he's doing. James Bradbury joins
us from Carolina Panthers. You spend so much time in

(01:38:39):
prepping for your games. Have you already begun to be
prepping for San Francisco or you're taking a breath. I'm
taking a breath, you know. I'm I'm gonna go back home,
taking time to relax, give my mind awaking football, and
then get back on it when I get back. You're
having an amazing season. Obviously started out with like a
career game, first game of the year. Uh what why? What?

(01:39:01):
What has led to you having such an incredible year? Uh?
You know, I first say my coaches. They put together
a good game plan each week, and then um, I
went throughout the week and I tried to prepare the
best way I can, and then when I get to
get to the game, I just tried to execute with
my best ability. And Uh, of course my front seven
they've really been in. Out of the quarterbacks. I have
to commend those guys to help us out on the

(01:39:22):
back end a lot Doug Gottlip Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. Obviously, you were brought in and people people
remember like Josh Dorman gone and you were the guy
who was drafted to replace him, and what what what
was that like to come in? Josh had had such success,
the team it had such success, and you had a
lot of pressure on you to perform early. What was

(01:39:43):
that like? It was stressful at first, to be honest
with you, just the big shoes that I had to feel,
knowing I had high expectations, um for myself and also
from the fans and the coaches. So of course the
first thing was stressful, but you know, I decided to
get the job done the best. What I too when
I got on the field, and then I'm played with
older guys like Luke and Thomas Davis, Captain Monel, and

(01:40:05):
those guys really helped me out throughout this. Throughout the years.
Of course, this it's gotten easier, but it's um NFL
is never easy. It's always stressful, to be honest with you.
UM So you know Cam comes back this year, but
he wasn't really right. Kyle has been really efficient, done
a great job, but truth be told, when the defense
learns that Cam is gonna be out for a while

(01:40:26):
and Kyle Allen's gonna start. What was said inside the
defensive meeting rooms, we just had to worry about outside
of the ball. You know, we're gonna we can handle
the offense as we can play for him on Sunday.
So you only can control. You only can care about
what you control. And now that's the deepenses out of
ball and if they don't score, they don't win. So
that was our whole minds stake approaching the games. Yeah,

(01:40:47):
and then and then you got Christian McCaffrey as a
defensive player. How would you describe your shacking your running back?
I mean, he's the m v P. You know, he's
done a lot for our offense, and you can stay
by assats and his numbers that he's up there. And uh,
I feel like he's up there in the rankings with
all the other quarterbacks that are nominated for m VPS
or in the running for MVPs right now. I mean,

(01:41:09):
he's pretty much do it all. Guy. Um, I don't
know where would be without them, to be honest, Yeah,
let me correct myself. His third year, I mean I
said he's the best back in the league, and he does,
and he really he's added size so he can take
seemingly more of punishment. We knew he could catch out
the backfield. It's pretty good on past protection. But stability
to add size to take that that beating that that

(01:41:30):
seems to make a noticeable difference. Now I feel like
I feel like so um you know after the game,
I'm sure you stare. But with that extra uh muscle
that he's put on, I'm sure he's able to exorable
all those hits and take more blows. Um. And he
also prepared a thought the week. Man. It's one guy
that I know that it takes care of his body.
He's the right thing. Um, drinks a lot of water.

(01:41:51):
He's always in the training room getting getting prepped for
the week. I mean, he takes care of his body
as well. All right, So you you mentioned you're taking
a break, taking a breath from all your film prep.
What are you doing your week off? Were you doing well?
First off, I'm gonna travel back home back to Birmingham, MD,
a little yoga, go see my high school football team play.
I hang out with some friends from back home. I'm

(01:42:13):
gonna grow up a little bit too, you know, Birmingham
and got some good food. That's some good barbecue. So
I'm just chill, do some yoga. That what hot yoga? Cold?
Regular yoga? Huh? I like hot yoga. Get your musk
is warmed up. Power sculpt What are you doing? Are
you doing sculpt? You're doing power? Like? What do you know?
I get because right because you go in there and

(01:42:35):
like you're an NFL player, are you gonna grab a
little two pound weight and do the sculpe thing? You
can do the regular that the poses see. I'm more
of a deep I'm more of a deep sis guy.
I don't really going there for the sculpting and whatnot.
I'm going there to get my musks loose. No, it's
the best, It's absolute best. And then the hot yoga.
Then you sweat it. You can go Now you can
go out and feel like you can pound some barbecue
and not really care because you dropped five pounds of

(01:42:56):
dropped five pounds of sweat when you're the hot yoga room.
How you sure? And I got small time, so I
got to enjoy the barbecue. I'll be able to get
that weight off all right. Most important is of the
what what's the barbecue spot burning him. There are many
to choose from the first one you go to? Is
which one? The first one I go to? I go
to barbecue. Yeah, out in Homewood, they got this white

(01:43:18):
barbecue sauce that I like. Okay, so you go to sauce,
you get ribs, you get brisket, you get pulled pork,
pulled chicken. What do you get? I get rid of
porker beef, uh pork of course for half her full. Yeah. Yeah,
let's not go crazy like you have full slaby like

(01:43:40):
that's a little that's that's a that's a that's that's
a little much. Most do you dip in the sauce
or put the sauce leather that lather in the sauce?
No I did, but I don't really like to lather
like the sweet tea. I think I gotta stay wor
from sweet tea. That's my that's my chrystian drink too

(01:44:00):
much of that. I put on too much weight. Yeah,
well you do have the hot yoga and you got
the week off and you've earned it. Hey, congrats on
what's been an incredible year so far. We'll see if
Cam's back healthy, say travels in San Francisco when you
do get back and thanks for joining us. Think that's
James Bradbury defensive back, Carolina Panthers Ramos. You go to
barbecue joint? What do you order? I liked, um, a

(01:44:23):
full rack of ribs. Yeah takes some home. Okay, yeah, yeah,
I'm gonna say I'm not gonnat it all at one time,
you know, but yeah, full rack takes the home. And
I like the sweet barbecue sauce. I don't know what
they call it, but it's whatever is sweet. No. I
like a little little sweeter variety of of barbecue sauce
as well, because you know, Carolina barbecue sauce. And he

(01:44:44):
didn't say this, he wasn't, but Carolina sauce is has
vinegar in it. It's a little bit more tangy, the
more tangy. Um. What about you the Dan buyers working
sorry music is like a California guy. He hasn't really
have you traveled the world of ribs? Do you know
the barbecue world at all? A little bit? He was
laughing about that. You went to buy her even though

(01:45:05):
you saw It's been an ongoing conversation we've had. Um. Yeah,
but yes it has to do with what you just read.
By the way, I couldn't ask him. I just I'm
gonna ask him like she can't get his job back?
Like right to the point, Doug, No, I mean do you?
I mean he said, like, look, we're worried about we

(01:45:26):
can only control we can control, right, Yeah, So what
am I gonna should I should I have gone like
should Cam get his job back? Like? That's um, I
would say, I don't believe that's something you would ask. No,
it is something that I think perception would be that
I would ask that. I just like, what is the
what is the wind? There's nothing he can he I

(01:45:49):
don't know. I just didn't feel I didn't feel like
it was Yeah, I don't think you gotta ask Like
I got what I wanted to get out of it.
He's having a great year. He was brought in, Remember
Josh Norman Leaves goes to d C, gets that huge
pay raise, and that first year he was a rookie
and there with some ups and downs, but now he's
become their guy. Picked up Jared Goff in the first

(01:46:10):
game as an no Ramos remembers had a great game
to start and he's been he had another interception against
Jamis over in London. Two right, two picks. Unbelievable year
he's having and in many ways like the gamble of
Dave Gettleman, because Dave Gettleman was the GM, then the
gamble of Dave Gettleman, which was go with the younger,

(01:46:31):
less expensive variety. As of now he's a better player.
It's just hard to see that through some trades going
down the NFL. We'll get him for you next. Fox

(01:46:57):
So we do part of this show digitally. Can we
got a ute up channel now right? We put it
out on Twitter? So, UM, I I usually come here
and I get it early enough. I get a little
workout in. I threw on a Nike Polo and I
walk in and I usually try and you know, we
there's there's a glass between me and John Ramos and
Dan Byron and and Ryan Music. Um, I'm like a

(01:47:21):
cage animals. So I haven't walk in and they're giggling
and they're chuckling like like like hens in the henhouse,
like like women back there, And I'm like, what is
the deal? And John, in a very polite fashion, said like,
I really like the shirts. A Nike shirt think called
Nike golf shirt that you're wearing. Well, the shirt is
relatively clean, so I gave it to John. So we're
going sand shirt here for the final segment of the show.

(01:47:43):
And is there gonna be any hr mentions herebody say
like that? I would I exposed myself. We're all guys here,
my questions. I'm not offending any of you by being
shirtless here. It's eighty degrees outside. I have another clean
shirt in the car. I'm good. All, We're good shirtless
shirtless Tuesday here. Let's get the threat the press. Fine, John,

(01:48:08):
just have the shirt. That's what was interesting was and
it wasn't a joke about anything. We were just laughing
about something that was unrelated. But John then just immediately
veered towards your shirts to say, how much like he
even like to compliment. We may interrupt this program for
jo about that that that he has to You're not ready.

(01:48:30):
That can't be set on the air. Yeah, that cannot
be said, what what happens in the studio stays in
the studio. Are you guys gonna tell me? Or is it?
Is it about sure? No, it wasn't about you. So
I'm not like paranoid. What are you guys talking about me?
You know what I'll do, But I'll text you. I'll
text you right now and then you will know. So

(01:48:55):
is that good? Is that good? It hasn't gone three yet. No,
it's just happening right now. So they're oh, so, I'll
just tell Ramos his breath is bad. Ramos has done
it again. Astros lead the Yankees to nothing in the

(01:49:16):
bottom of the fourth inning. Solo home runs from jose
L Toba and Josh Reddick have given the Astros their
offense against Louis Severino's up to ninety pitches. Garrett Coles
still not allowing a run in four innings of workforce
fly out to right center field, so he gets through
the fourth. It is interesting how that park is statistically,
people know, you get up in the air to right

(01:49:37):
center and it's gone, uh and a short right field porch.
It's like, what makes the Yankees could well break the Yankees.
These two solo home runs something that, but but you know,
they have unbelievable home r and hitting prowess of their own.
They're still five five innings left to get two more
on the board. Cards Gnats later tonight, and NAT's look

(01:49:58):
to get out the brooms as they're up three in
the NLCS with Game four indeed, so they're not getting
the s kicked out of their a no oh no.
And remember when he made those comments, Dodgers Nationals hadn't
even been decided, so in that in that, I mean again,
do you did? Do we really care? Right? Like, do

(01:50:22):
we really really care? I just and I know it
looks bad for let's why am I forgetting his name?
The manager of the Cardinals, Mike Schilt. I know it
looks bad for Mike Schilt, but he was probably several
drinks in. He's super excited. And no team has ever
entered into a series thinking they're not gonna win it,

(01:50:46):
right right? Yeah? I mean, and you know, like, look
you got you got Jack Flaherty, he got Paul gold Schmidt.
You gotta feel they felt really good about that, but
they just one a series. He feels like, I'm not
gonna it looks and sounds really funny because he was
forceful in his pronounced Uh, what is it? Well, now

(01:51:10):
we are going to keep their as that's what he said.
It looks like a bunch of us is gonna get swept.
It sounds like a bunch of bullet shilt right now.
He was full of silt. I thought nobody would give
a Paul Goldschmidt, but apparently they do. Hey, Lebron James
spoke at practice today. Now protesters in Hong Kong actually
burned and trampled jerseys of the Lakers star after he

(01:51:33):
made the critical comments about the tweet scent by Darryl Morey.
Here was Lebron in the backlash and everything that's come
with it. Also, don't think that, um, every issue should
be everybody's problem as will you know, so you know
when things come up. There's there's multiple things that that
we haven't talked about to happen in our own our
own country that we don't bring up. This is not

(01:51:56):
getting better for fall like this is just getting worse. Uh,
let's see what I see what have I What happened
was it was this is the this is when you
tell a lie and then you're like and and by
the way. I don't think any of what he has said,

(01:52:17):
if he actually is, is wrong. Like, I don't know
if Darryl Moy really knew the difference between hon Ko.
I guess hed Darryl Mooy is pretty bright guy, But
we don't know for a fact that he knew everything
going on between Hong Kong and China, or he understood
the financial ramifications of the tweet. No idea about it. Um,
And you are free of speech, but you're not free

(01:52:39):
of ramification. Speech has to do with freedom from a
tyrannical government in the United States, not abroad. And you
don't have to comment on everything. But he did comment.
And now he's like, you know, I comment on everything
I'm waiting from and you like, hey, look I just
played basketball, okay, I I'm really good at basketball, and

(01:53:03):
and and you know I own Blaze Pizza. You know,
Blaze Pizza Pizza by Dres Fox Sports Radios Rob Parker. Yeah,
he broke the Marcus Peters trade from the Rams to
the Baltimore Ravens Neil Long. Rams will get linebacker Kenny
Young and a draft pick in the trade. They also
swung a separate deal with the Browns getting offensive Lineman

(01:53:24):
Austin Corbett in a deal for a fifth rounder. In
It's So Quiet you can hear Rob Parker. Uh and uh. Finally,
Tiger Woods is writing a memoir titled Back. It'll cover
his master's victory last spring, but also talk about his issues.

(01:53:45):
The ghost Rider wrote Open. If you're gonna pick up
one book to read, Andre Agassi Open. It is my
favorite autobiography I've ever read. All Right, we got major
League baseball right now. Astro is in really, really good shape.
My takeaway from Monday Night Football is very simple. Yes,
the Revs made some bad calls, but the Packers were

(01:54:06):
the better team and it was a great game. Enjoy it. Stuck,
