Dan Beyer and Bucky Brooks, in for Doug Gottlieb, discuss the Chicago Bears woes this season and wonder who is to blame more for the teams issues. The guys discuss the struggles of the Dallas Cowboys and Dan explains why Jerry Jones, not Jason Garrett is the problem with the team, while Bucky feels that Jerry Jones is giving Garrett every opportunity. The guys discuss the whether or not Jon Gruden has been successful during his time Oakland and if it will equal a resurgence of older coaches. Dan and Bucky think that the Ravens game being showcased on Monday Night Football let people see why Lamar Jackson is the front runner for MVP. The guys discuss how Rams coach Sean McVay hasn’t evolved and it is the reason the rest of the league has caught up with the Rams. Dan and Bucky run through the teams left contending for a playoff spot and tell you who is done and who isn’t. Plus, a special edition of confessions of an NFL player with Bucky Brooks.

this Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you so much for joining us.
If you're out there traveling wherever you may bee, please
be safe, but we hope to provide you at least
some company over the next four hours because Bucky, the
Bears and Lions are providing us with some entertainment in
the first of the NFL triple header today. Surprise, surprise,
we've actually had a good game the early part of it.

(00:49):
Who would have thought that the three seven and one
Detroit Lions and a five and six Chicago Bears would
have a barn burner, But we actually have any really
good game. This is this is the recipe for good football,
and who would have funk it? Like you just had
to add a couple of table students, table spoons of
David blow to make that Thanksgiving meal. So good. It

(01:09):
wasn't gonna be a little bit of Driskill or a
tad been of Stafford. It was the two table spoons
of David Blow that has allowed the Lions to at
least be even right now with the Chicago Bears. He
hats off to David Blow making his first start, being
called up from a practice squad, being ready when his
number was called. Uh, he has been solid, came out

(01:30):
the gate on fire, found uh Kenny Golladay a couple
of times to kind of get his rehythm going. And
so he's done a great job of not only managing
the game but making plays. And so here we are
at the end of the third quarter with the Detroit
Lions driving and really have an opportunity to get a
big win for them on Turkey Day. Now the Lions
are gonna be facing They just actually converted a third

(01:52):
and one year midfield as we're nearing the end of
the third quarter. Let's be honest, the NFC right now,
the only real drama, uh it seems of who's gonna
make the playoffs is who's gonna win the NFC East
And then will the Rams be able to make a
push to try to challenge for that final wild card spot.
The Bears are pretty much out of it. Let's let's

(02:13):
be honest. There five and six, they are three games
back in their own division. They'd be three games back
in the wild card. But if today, if a loss
happens today, I mean, you're not gonna make the playoffs.
It's not gonna happen because they have just four games left.
But it also Bucky then may bring up more questions
about Mitchell Trabisky with this with this Bears team where
today maybe seems to be the same Mitchell Trobisky that

(02:35):
we've seen hot sometimes cold other times, but a lot
of the David blow talk today that we laugh about
David blah blah blah blah. It's also an opportunity for
people to really get a look at Mitchell Tropisky. And
I don't know if he's gonna be changing many minds
today about the top of quarterback that he is. No.
He had a great first drive. That opening script that
Matt Neggie created for Mitchell Trabisky was outstanding. He threw

(02:55):
the ball on rhythm and when he is decisive more
rather when you is exactly where to go at the ball,
and he plays decisively and he gets the ball out
of his hands. He looks like a high end quarterback. However,
there are too many times where he hesitates, he pauses,
he struggles with the accuracy, and I think the biggest
thing that he doesn't uh display consistently is I don't

(03:18):
know if he's a courageous quarterback. Not in terms of, oh,
he's the cowardly lion, but there are instances where you
need your quarterback to have courage, whether it's making a
fearless throw in a tight window, whether it's sticking your
head down to go get the first down. I don't
know if Mitchell Trabinsky has that naturally inside, and I
don't know if that's something that you can manufacture. And

(03:40):
there was an opportunity in this game on a third
down I believe where he could have ran and gotten
the first down if he goes up field. Instead, he
goes to the outside and they end up maybe getting
a yard when he could have gotten three or four
and a first down. And it's those sort of things
that I think connected to what you're saying. What I
also find is intriguing is just about this Bears team
because I didn't expect him more from them. I thought

(04:01):
that last year was a great start under matten Age.
I did not believe that there was going to be
a sophomore slump. I felt that this team was going
to round into more of the offensive team that Mattenegy wanted.
And while the defense did lose Vic Fangio, you bring
in Chuck Begano and you have pretty much the same
pieces that you had from a year ago. But the
success from a year ago did not translate this year.

(04:23):
And to me, Bucky, a lot of this also falls
on matten Age. And I'm just gonna use this example
of what was the offseason conversation when it came to
the Chicago Bears. It was the Cody Parky kick and
the field goal miss that he had against the Eagles,
the double doink and Cody Parkey misses again, and Cody
Parkey's the scapegoat. We've heard the stories of them bringing

(04:44):
in kickers and wanting to know if they can make
a forty three yard field goal. Well, today is a
perfect example. They have an opportunity for a forty nine
yard field goal without a Pinero who hasn't been great,
but he has made a game winning kick in Denver.
You're playing indoors Bucky in a game with the Lions,
and you don't expect them to score a lot of points,
and Matt Nagge ends up going forward on fourth and six.

(05:06):
A forty nine year field goal indoors at Ford Field,
to me, is not as difficult as if it would
be a forty three auto ad Soldier field. And to me,
it's Matt Nagy And I don't know if it's if
if it's his mind, games are the way that he thinks,
but I think there are some of his decisions that
are holding this team back as well. Yeah, I think
it goes all the way back to the way you
attack the off season. And I feel like for the

(05:28):
Chicago Bears, they felt like, um, they were going to
start back over, and there was the automatic next step.
The automatic next step would have been able to be
a team that was in the championship Game and went
on to play in the Super Bowl, And so much
of their off season focus was on the miss field goal,
when it should have been how can we start over,
rebuild it, and make a better team so we're better

(05:50):
prepared to make a run at the postseason. I think
the hardest thing to do in the National Football League
is to sustain your success. Can you continue to, year
after year after year after year build a championship contending
team that gives you an opportunity to not only get
into the tournament, but to make a run. Whether Chicago
Bears are learning now is how difficult it is to

(06:14):
be a team that can get to the climb to
top of the mounting year after year after year. I
just don't know if Matt Naggy approached the offseason in
the proper way. How much does a game like this
way in on Bears fans for the simple fact of
they're getting a good look at a third string quarterback
who didn't know he was going to start until a

(06:34):
day or two ago. In David Blow coming in in
his rookie season, and well, blows not sending the world
on fire, but he's definitely not making a fool of himself.
I mean, he's got the Lions in an even game,
He's thrown for two d nine yards, hasn't turned the
ball over. Does this send a message to the Bears
fans of look at what the Lions are doing with

(06:57):
their third string and look at where we've gone with
our first string quarterback and Mitchell Drominski. Is there any
overlap there can that? Can that seep into a fan base?
Can that seep into a coaching staff? Yes, it absolutely can.
See fan I believe that if you're a Chicago Bears
fan and you're looking at your defense, a Vanna defense,
the defense that at the end of the year was

(07:17):
regarded as one of the elite defenses getting torn apart
a little bit by a third string quarterback, practice squad quarterback,
however you wanna describe David Blow. I think you have
to be concerned not only in man defensively, what are
we doing to allow of this guy to have success?
But from an offensive standpoint, why how come our quarterback

(07:39):
doesn't look like their quarterback? Our quarterback is the second
overall pick in a draft, a guy that was regarded
as the top quarterback in the class based on when
Ryan Pace selected him. Why is he struggling to play
at a high level? I think those are legitimate questions
that you have to ask yourself. If you're a Chicago
Bears fan, you're sitting down for Thanksgive and you can't

(08:00):
wait to eat turkey, and Bears fans are sick watching
their team, and I want to I want to kind
of just wrap this up with this. I don't want
to hear anybody complain about the Lions playing on Thanksgiving Day.
It is It is a Pavlow sort of response that
I have, Bucky Yeah, of of when I see when
I see for us here on the West Coast is
we're based in southern California. Nine thirty start for us

(08:23):
on Fox. When you live in New York and maybe
you turn on the TV and it's twelve thirty, or
maybe you're in Chicago and Detroit and it's an eleven
thirty start thirty minutes before you're you normally start, you know,
it's Thanksgiving Day. I never want this tradition take it away.
And I have a difficult time picking against these Lions

(08:43):
on Thanksgiving Day just because of the tradition that it
is the only thing that you will see on Twitter.
People who complain about the Lions playing on Thanksgiving Day
are complaining because they don't have any other sports takes
because nothing's going on right now, so they figure, let's
shoot shots at the Detroit Lions and be like, how
can the NFL do us? You know what? You know what,
I don't want Bucky. I don't want the Ravens and
forty Niners playing on Thanksgiving, Okay, because I'm sitting there

(09:07):
hanging out with my friends or with my family. I
want to leave that for Sunday, when I can sit
down and watch the game, when you have a family gathering,
I don't want a super meaningful game going on at
that point. I like this casual Bears Lions. You have
it out in the background, and you sit down, you
have a little turkey for lunch, you watch it, you
take it in. What about the last game and not

(09:31):
not one of the games like doing during prime eating hours?
And what about what about the nightcap? What about the
triple of the triple head or where everyone is kind
of relaxing and I know you're a little sleepy because
you stuffed yourself, you have turkey and all that. But
for some of us, we might be delving and beginning
to get into the pumpkin pire the sweet potato pie

(09:52):
at that point, and I wouldn't mind having a meaningful
game to kind of enjoy while I'm savoring some sweet
seat that. Okay, put that the Falcons, because this is
this Lions tradition to your point about sitting back, having
the day unfold in front of you, and then having
the dessert that was added. I didn't mind falling asleep

(10:13):
at the end of the night with with no football.
Mind the two games, it was, it was all right,
it was it was fine with me. I love the
Lions playing, and it's usually when they play the NFC opponent.
They'll play the Bears, and they'll play the Packers, they'll
play the Vikings. Usually you know, a divisional opponent. Last
year it was in Minnesota. I remember we talked with
Adam Feelan after a win. Hopefully we'll get to talk

(10:34):
to a Bear or Lion, depending on who wins. But
the point is is, don't take the Lions away from
me on Thanksgiving because that's the tradition I like. I
still wish they had old Texas Stadium and you can
then watch the Cowboys and that that slick astro turf
that just had that unique green with the The Texas
Stadium is a stadium that I don't think many people

(10:55):
look back fondly at because they either handed the cow
Boys or maybe the facility wasn't great. But it's actually
a look in the NFL that I missed, just like
the yellow tint of the Metrodome. By the way, Lions
failed to get a first down on a third and one.
So what do you do in the situation, Bucky, here
we go. Let's put the coaches gap on. Lions are
in the red zone. They're facing a fourth and one

(11:16):
at about the Bear six yard line in a tie game.
I think we have to bring on the field goal unit.
We gotta get a kick. We gotta get a kick.
We gotta put pressure on the Bears because we're talking
about their quarterback in the struggles that he has had. Oh,
we want to continue to put pressure on him and
make him have to make plays when he has to
make them. Yeah, we're gonna kick to field goal, all right,
fourth down and two. They ended up losing a yard

(11:38):
To see if Matt Prator comes on, Yes he does.
It's gonna be for the automatic points man. Patrician knows
he gotta stack and wins. Yeah, the job is his
jobs in jeopardy. Can't mess around trying to be the
courageous Bowl guy today. My my final question to you
is the lines have taken a lead. Who is the
NFL m v P right now? Is it Lamar Jackson
or David Blow had to vote, which, by the way,

(12:02):
we have we have uphold now up at Dan Buyer
on Fox where you can vote on who the NFL
m v P is right now, Lamar Jackson or David Blow.
You can get that at Dan Buyer on Fox. You
can find Bucky on Twitter at Bucky Brooks. And you
know what, this deserves a round of applause, clap Bucky.
John Ramos, our technical producer today, provided a Thanksgiving feast

(12:25):
for us here at Fox Sports Radio. You can find
John on Twitter at j S. Ramo. Six. Waited in
line for an hour this morning to bring in the festivities.
I just told you before we went on air. This
is I think my fifteen Thanksgiving at Fox Sports Radio.
I think I've been in the studios for about ten
of them. First time we ever had a Thanksgiving meal.

(12:46):
I've got mashed potatoes sitting to the left of me
right here. Yes, yes, So thank you very much, John,
We appreciate it. A happy Thanksgiving to you and uh
your efforts today. We are very grateful. Well, you know,
sometimes people have to work on this glorious day where
people are home with their families and some of us.
Obviously we'll get home to our families later on, but
right now, we should celebrate with each other. And I thought,

(13:08):
you know what, let's just bring in some turkey and
some stuff in and all that good stuff. So Bucky,
make sure you get over there and grab some stuff. Oh,
trust me, as soon as we have a break, I'm
going over there. He's he's been giving me the break
signal for four minutes, like, let's go to break, Let's
go to break. We're hanging out. It is the Doug
Gottlieb Show. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer. Happy Thanksgiving
to you. Should Jerry Jones be thankful for Jason Garrett.

(13:30):
We'll give you that answer next year on Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Easter noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio ah App.
He's Bucky Brooks on Dan Buyer, Happy Thanksgiving to you
as we are sitting in for Doug today on this
Thanksgiving Day. If you're out there traveling, weather's hitting everything

(13:51):
in this country. So there's rain in southern California. I
know there's snowback in the Midwest where I'm from. Happy
Thanksgiving to my mom, who's actually listening right now. Nice
gives her the the ability to U spend Thanksgiving with me,
even though it's over the radio air waves. But hey,
if you can't travel or aren't able to travel, maybe
it's best for the simple fact that travel sometimes could

(14:12):
be a little sketchy with some of the weather that's
been hitting. The outcome of the Lions Bears game sketchy
right now. For the Bears, they had to pun it
back to Detroit. Detroit is up seventeen with eight thirty
five to go in the game. Have the ball at
about their own thirty eight yard line. You're gonna get
a heavy amount of bow Scarborough for the for the

(14:33):
Lions today, as Bucky just saw the SloMo replay Free
Flowers making a Turkey sandwich out of Mitchell Trobinsky on
the third down that they failed to convert. Actually, Troubinsky
was taken into the blue tent. Maybe just for a
hind to the head, maybe yeah, okay, some protocol, just
check him out. I'm not trying to be callous here,

(14:55):
but but I mean, if Mitchell Troubisky can't go to
Chase Daniels, maybe give a different give a different look
like David Blow has been able to do as both
Scarborough is now until the secondary both. Scarborough is interesting
to me for the simple fact of we knew how
good he was at Alabama, but then he goes to

(15:16):
the NFL, spend some time with the Cowboys, spend some
time in Seattle. All the big run for Scarborough is
actually gonna be brought back because of a penalty. But
now with the Lions and Carrie and Johnson being injured,
found himself in a bit of a role and maybe
a bit of a bit of a a niche role
for the Detroit Lions and being their lead back. Yeah.
So the thing about the National Football League is um.

(15:39):
Typically on most teams, they're about ten guys that are
irreplaceable guys that can kind of fit. But the majority
of the roster um and the guys that are bubble
guys that are final cuts, most of those guys can
play in the National Football League. A lot of times
it comes down to opportunity. It comes down to Um
being put in a situation where you're give him multiple
chances to thrive and flourish. And settle in and I

(16:00):
think both Scarborough had an opportunity this year due to
injury to get on the field, and what we discovered
is he can play, and the more that he plays,
the more opportunities that he get he receives, the more
coaches are able to build things in the package that
fit what he does really well. But a lot of
times you have to kind of play your way um

(16:21):
onto the team through special teams and then hopefully through
injury you get an opportunity. And that has happened for
both Scarborough, which is why the Detroit Lions have seen
better production from him that maybe some of his previous
teams were able to see. I know some people play
him in fantasy today, So I'll tell you a twenty
one carries eighty three yards from Scarborough today. So it
hasn't gotten into the end zone because that's been David

(16:43):
Blouse doing with a couple of touchdown passes. But the
Lions facing a third down and fourteen will end up
punting it back to the Bears. Will keep you up
to date on that game. For thirty Eastern time on CBS,
it's the Bills and Cowboys in the show Down' the
best matchup of the three of this Thanksgiving and there
was a lot of news this week's coming from the
loss against the Patriots. On Sunday, from the Dallas Cowboys,

(17:06):
a frustrated Jerry Jones went off after their game against
the Patriots, saying that he is frustrated that that now
is the time where, yeah, maybe he's getting to his
wits end. He had an opportunity a couple of days
later on one or five point through the Fan for
his weekly radio hitting Dallas to kind of clarify those remarks.
And this is what Jerry Jones said when he spoke

(17:27):
earlier this week again the same way that I felt.
Then when you're general manager, of which I am, those
coaches are out there at my ultimate decision. People seem
to think that it's particularly harsh to have criticism. Uh,
there's no question that disappointed is not the word. Now.

(17:47):
This is this is where I come in on this,
Jason Garrett's isn't the problem with the Dallas Cowboys Not? No,
the problem is the guy who you just heard talking
this couple reason of this, Bucky, Because Jerry Jones has
finally gotten frustrated, finally finally come to his wits end
of this team. And I think a big reason is

(18:10):
is this window of opportunity that he felt that Dallas
needed to cash in and when you didn't have to
pay Doc, when you didn't have to pay Ezekiel Elliott,
when you didn't have to pay some of these stars
on defense, and now, Amari Cooper, when you have that
window dating back to a couple of years ago when
you were thirteen and three and and playing Green Bay
in the divisional playoff round, you felt like, okay, and

(18:30):
we've got to take advantage in these these next couple
of years on doing this in having a winner while
these guys aren't making any money. Well, now you've already
had to give Zeke's contract, You're gonna end up having
to pay Doc, You've paid to Marcus Lawrence, and there's
other money that's gonna be figuring out what what Amari
Cooper is? The point is this, Bucky is it was

(18:51):
Jerry Jones timetable and now that the time has run out,
But if he has known all along that in this
time frame, he's the one that's put Jason Garrett in
that position. He is the one that has allowed Jason
Garrett in that position, So he may say that the
heat is on that they're gonna find somebody to to
move on if they can't get the job done. The

(19:12):
point is is Jerry Jones has allowed Jason Garrett to
remain with the Cowboys when there's been there have been
questions four years about this, and now it gets to
the point. It's not because they lose a four point
game to the New England Patriots that we hear that
Jason Garrett may lose his job. It's because Jerry Jones
ran out of time in his timetable in that to me,

(19:34):
it's all on Jerry Jones's shoulder for not having the
ability to recognize and make a move previously, because he
is the one that kept Jason Garrett employed. Well, here's
the thing, um, I mean, I could see early in
Jason Garrett's tenure. Yeah, you can move on from we
had a three straight eight and eight seasons. However, in
the past three years, he's won two division titles, they've

(19:55):
gone to the playoffs, They've been one of the better teams.
When you look at their quarterback that Prescott Uh, he
only ranks behind Tom Brady in terms of the number
of wins of a starting quarterback since team. If you're
Jerry Jones and you're looking at that, that's not grounds
for dismission for your head coach. I think what has
happened this year the Dallas Cowboys have beaten the teams

(20:17):
they were supposed to be and they've lost to the
teams that were even or better. In the National Football League.
Coaching matters in games where you have good versus good
teams that are even. That's where the coaching separates um
separates two teams in this last game and the reason
why it was so um disturbing for Jerry Jones. This

(20:42):
was a game when when you watched the game, coaching
was the only different The Dallas Cowboys were more talented
team than the New England Patriots. Uh. The Patriots have
a better defense, but the Cowboys, man for man, they're
more talented than the Patriots. The reason that the Cowboys
lost came down to details, and really the details in
the kicking game, on special teams, blockhunt uh, fielding eras, penalties,

(21:05):
burning time outs. All of those things point back to
coaching and a lack of preparedness. I believe that is
why Jerry Jones had it. That's why he went off,
and I think he wanted to let Jason Garrett. No.
I am not only the owner, but I'm the general manager,
and everything you do is subject to evaluation. That's why
he was so forceful in his remarks after the game.

(21:28):
And that's that's the issue that I have is I
don't think that Jason Garrett has done anything different than
what has been in Dallas for the last three years.
I think that the recipe for Dallas was always get
up on teams, get a lead early, and then you
keep on wearing on them, and then that's how they're
gonna win football games. I don't think that that recipe
is well, maybe the recipe has changed a little bit

(21:51):
with the progression of DAC, But I just don't know
what makes Jason Garrett different three years ago as opposed
to Jason Garrett right now. And maybe it's maybe it
is just a simple fact of a thirteen and three
versus a nine and seven or a ten and six record.
But the point is is, I think Jason Garrett has
been the same guy that we've always felt that he is,

(22:12):
and there was never an excuse for Jerry Jones to
fire Jason Garrett. But now he has that excuse. Well,
to me, that lands then on Jerry jones shoulder. If
you are looking for the cop out to make the move,
if you were really the owner and really the guy
in charge, if you foresee these issues but said to yourself, well,
I can't do it because we're winning this game, but
we're doing this offensively, then that falls squarely on the

(22:33):
owner shoulders. But here, here, here's the thing, because I
just outlined to you, in the last three years they
won two division titles. They have a ton of wins
over the period. If Jerry Jones pulls the plug on
Jason Garrett, at that point we will be on here screaming,
oh my god, how can you pull the plug on
a winning on a winning coach. So I think what
he wanted to do is one he can't. He won't
necessarily fire him. His contract expires at the end of

(22:56):
the season. He doesn't have to pick up the contract. Um.
I think he was really trying to give Jason Garrett
every opportunity because one thing that does matter and S
Football League is stability. When you have a stable organization,
you don't have a lot of turnover. It allows the
franchise to grow, your players develop in the same system.
There's a continuity in chemistry between the front office and

(23:16):
the coaching staff, so you're able to really build a
team that fits to coaches eye. But I think after
ten years and after what we've seen this year, if
the Cowboys don't make a significant run, I do believe
you can question where the Jason Garrett is the guy
who can get them to the next level. I just
think that it all goes to the top, and when
people are put into positions that they don't succeed, I

(23:38):
think that a lot of the responsibility goes down to
the person who made the decision to put that person there.
I know it may seem like it's passing the buck,
but Jerry Jones has been very active this week. He's
been very vocal this week, and I don't think that
when you're pointing the finger, we know the saying there's
three pointing right back at your four pointing, And that's
the case I think with the Dallas Cowboys is j

(24:00):
Jones has been extremely loyal, But I just don't think
that Jason Garrett's stripes have changed. And if you this
was what you were concerned about, if you were waiting
for the excuse to fire Jason Garrett. Excuse though, wasn't
an excused. It's a lack of performance, not an excuse. Well,
if they still may win the division this year, and
what are we the expectation as well? The Cowboys got
to make it to the NFC Championship Game. If Jason

(24:22):
Garrett wants to keep his job, they're still leading the division,
you know. So, so I don't think anything is changed
in that sort of thing. I think it hasn't. But
I think what what has changed is is clear and
apparent that when they when they can out talent the
other team, they win. But when it's even the coach
is not elevating the team to get him those Dubs

(24:44):
special teams. That was my Jerry Jones, I I can't
go anymore. That was in my mind. Just to update
you on the poll, Bucky, who is the NFL m
v P right now, Lamar Jackson or David Blow. We've
put it up on Twitter. David Blow leads at So
there is your latest for there moment. There is your
your latest. By the way, Mitchell Trabinsky has the Bears

(25:05):
in Lions territory. They're gonna be facing a third and
six and the Lions thirty five yard line. The question
will be how much do the Bears trust Eddie Pinero.
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific.
So in the in the world of NFL coaching, the
joke that we had last offseason Bucky Walking Day, the

(25:28):
joke was, well, if you knew Sean McVeigh, you met
Sean McVeigh, you could get an NFL head coaching job.
It was the ha ha, funny funny thing. Well, Sean
McVeigh season maybe turned out as well as it it
would have expected. But there is one coaching job that
I think is turned around in the NFL that has
gone better than many people expected, and that is in Oakland.

(25:51):
And I posed this to you, Well, we see a
shift in veteran coaches getting another chance. Be as of
the success of Jon Gruden in Oakland and what he's
done with the Raiders, because there has been this shift
success and I think it's a great success. But we

(26:12):
just talked about Dallas Cowboys need to fire the coach. Difference,
different different scenario from where the teams were. I think
when you look at how things have gone in the NFL,
when you are trying to find the next Sean McVeigh,
you get into a watered down product with guys with
maybe not enough experience, maybe not having that head coaching pedigree.

(26:32):
I'm not saying that you need to be a head
coach previously, but maybe your rise was so quick you're
not you're not ready to fill that position. With a
former head coach like Jon Gruden coming back into the game,
we were worried that maybe the game has passed him by. Well,
the style of football that the Raiders are playing seems
to be pretty simple, give it to Josh Jacobs and
and have Derek car not turned the ball over? Could

(26:53):
we see a resurgence of veteran coaches and other teams
follow what the Raiders have done and bringing John Gruden back. Yes,
I think we're gonna see that, regardless of what, uh
what kind of success John Gruden had. I think we
have exhausted that young offensive wizardry pipeline. I think what
we found and maybe all those dudes that stood next

(27:14):
to Sean McVeigh aren't Sean McVeigh. They don't necessarily have
the capacity to lead a team. They don't have the
ability to elevate their squads through their play calling. Zach
Taylor is struggling in Cincinnati. Matt la Floor has been okay,
but that team was kind of primed to win some games.
At some point he's going to have to be able
to elevate that team through scheming. Right now, with Aaron

(27:35):
Rodgers and some of the holdovers, they've been able to
kind of win just because they know how to win.
We will now see in the final month of the
season how good of a coach is Matt lafleur Um.
I believe Cliff Kingsbury has actually done a better job
than people have expected. I think if you tuned in
and watched the Arizona Cardiners of late, he's beginning to
figure it out. They've changed how they go about it

(27:55):
on offense. Colin Murray's having a very solid season for
a rookie. But that said, I just believe it's time
to kind of look for some of those I don't
want to say retreads, but some of the guys that
have done it before, because there is something to be
said for experience and having guys that have had an
opportunity to lead. They've learned from their mistakes and they
can come back. Don't forget that. The greatest coach in

(28:17):
our lifetime in the National Football League, Bill Belichick, failed
in his first venture. He was not a successful coach
with the Cleveland Browns. He left there, went back and
rejoined Bill Parcells learned not only were the Patriots and
the Jets, but then came back as a head coach
for the Patriots, and we've seen the success. There's something
to be said for having an opportunity to do it,

(28:40):
learning from it, recalibrating, and then doing it better. I
think there are plenty of coaches out there than the
second go round they can do a better job. I
think you could even look in Seattle at Pete Carroll
who had two in coaching opportunities and and maybe dismissed
at one unfairly, but there was another opportunity as well
where the Jets and Patriots didn't work out, goes to
college comes act. I think you could. I think you

(29:01):
could see that, but maybe what could could HERM Lewis
or HERM Edwards excuse me make a jump, or Marvin
Lewis who's coaching. Lewis could certainly make make a return.
And I think the thing that will help Marvin Lewis
is when people look at Cincinnati and how the bottom
has completely fallen out, and how the level of success
that he had winning four or five division titles, going

(29:22):
to the playoffs a number of times, even though they
didn't win a playoff game, they're nail seeing man. Maybe
there's a greater appreciation for the job that Marvin Lewis
did and keeping that team around where they can compete
to get into the tournament each and every year. He's
Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer. The Bears are in the
end zone, taking a lead on a Mitchell Trabinsky touchdown

(29:43):
past to David Montgomery. The extra point is up and
it's good. Eddie Pinero has given the Bears a four
point lead, so now it's in the hands of one
David Blow with two seventeen left to go. Yes, David Blow.
Time in Motown. The Lions will try to come back
from a four point deficit. They also a rough pinnarow,

(30:04):
so there could be some yardage given to the Bears
on the kickoff. Bears up by four with two seventeen
left to go. He's Bucky Brooks. Find him on Twitter

Doug Gottlieb Show. I'm happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

(30:46):
Thanks for hanging with us. Hopefully we can make your
drive your day a little bit better. Lions and Bears
in a tight one, Chicago's up. David Blow and the
Lions have the football with a minute fifty to go,
two time outs left, facing a second and one from
their already nine yard line. David Blow the starter named
within the last forty eight hours after Jeff Driscoll, the

(31:08):
backup to Matthew Stafford, had a leg injury. And Blows
looked pretty good so far, trying to scrabble for a
first down. He ends up getting it, but the question
will be there was a flag on the play in
will the first downstand? But tell you what for a
guy who's a rookie out of Purdue, goes undrafted, ends
up making his debut against one of the better defenses
in the National Football League. David Blow nothing to hang

(31:31):
his head on so far, but then leave his head
down for very solid effort. I mean a very very
very solid effort for him. Uh Man, this is a
tough player. Khalil Mack just absolutely abused right tackle. Uh
going inside. But look for David Blow to come and
perform like this big stage, big game, everyone watching. He

(31:51):
doesn't look like the stage is too big for him.
And I think if you're a Detroit lines you're the
front office, you have to be excited about his performance.
And then you want to see if he gets all
the opportunity these this season, how does he build upon those?
Don't you have to be excited as well. Because Matthew
Stafford was having an alright season. Jeff Driscoll seemed to
fill in all right when he took over that at

(32:11):
least your quarterback room is doing something right. Yeah, the
quarterback room is doing something right, but everything else appears
to be all wrong. Remember Patricia, Matt, Matt Patricia took
over for a team that was already nine and seven. Um,
they had three winning seasons and Jim carl Will's four seasons,
and so the expectation was Matt Patricia was the missing

(32:35):
ingredient to get this team to a higher level. Well,
in back to back years, they're gonna have losing records
and they certainly have not reached the heist at Jim
car Will even reached. So if I'm ownership, what are
we doing? Like? What do we get? Like we pulled
a plug on a tenure that was fairly successful for
this How much longer do we let this play out,

(32:57):
not knowing that the results are gonna be any better
than what we had previous slip? I think it's time
to shave the beard as well. I mean, I mean everything.
He lost his way, Um when he um turned the
hat forwards, when he's a guy who has always been around, Um,
he maintained the pencil, But why does he care what
public says about his head being back? Whends he doesn't
look professional like that's how he's always gotten down And

(33:19):
so I do believe like that little thing in I
mean a lot, but I think it does speak to
the sensitivity that he had. And when you're in that job,
it's a big job. There's a lot of critics and
everyone taking shots. You have to be comfortable in your
own skin, and I just don't know if maddyp has
been comfortable in his own skin the entire time that
he's been the head coach. Good news for the Lions,

(33:40):
David Blow hit Kenny Golladay for a pass in the
Barrass territory. The bad news is on the next past
he may have just been intercepted, possibly ending the Lions
hopes for a victory. We'll tell you how that replay goes,
but first, let's play a game. This is Game Time Tide.
Doug Gottlieb Show. David gascon joins us, I guess if

(34:03):
we played a game of I N T or no
I N T. I think that's I think that's an interception.
Look like it, Dave, Did you see that? I thought
the ball hit the grou Let's see, I'd like the
boy the ground. That's not a good angle that we got.
We got the rear side view of it on Fox
right now for those those watching with the front of
view sounds uh yeah, full front of you, we can't

(34:27):
see it. Full front of you. You can't see the ball.
So here's the thing. If the play with the Marie
Cooper last week was was incomplete, then that should be
incomplete based on that. We I don't know how Hawkerson
didn't dislocate his elbow on that play. I know he
didn't give great effort on that route. Oh they did
call it an incomplete pass. So there it is incomplete.

(34:50):
So David Blow gets life second and ten with a
minute one to go. Actually, the balls at the forty
six yard line up and he has to run hard
on the route. They route was not a great effort.
They got two time outs remaining with sixty one seconds
ago in that ball game, guys want to play a game, Yeah,
let's do it, all right, little guests who today, That's right,
we will guess who. So we'll start things off. Fellas

(35:11):
in the National Football like guests who had a guests
who a sidelined this weekend because of an appendectomy won't
be able to play this weekend. A week thirteen the
National Football League. Who for who did you? Did you
say the team? I'll give you, I'll give you a hand.
It's a member of the a f C East. A
member of the a f C East. Do you know
who had an appendectomy? Oh yeah, yeah, kicker. Oh that's

(35:36):
a good job. Yeah, we got him. He's gonna be
out this weekend Patriots take on the Houston Texans. But
he underwent an appendectomy surgery. Shouldn't be out more than
a week in this one, So the Patriots will have
to pick up somebody on an emergency basis, or they
can use their rookie punter Jake Bailey in that spot.
Oh interesting, the Patriots kicking job could be. That could

(35:59):
be something to watch in the post season, that's for sure, guys.
We'll go from the gridiron to the hardwood court in
the NBA. Guests who showed up with a bandage on
his hand because he got in a little bit of
a post game fisticuff with himself. Gosh, I gotta do
a better job. That's the coast with himself. It's got

(36:21):
to be somebody's maybe got a little bit of it.
You know what I'm gonna say, Well, come on, come on,
I don't know Joel embiid. Yeah, that's good though, that's
a good guess. It was actually it was yeah, it's
head coach Steve Kerry. He was, oh, yeah, that's right.

(36:42):
He broke the board, right, Yeah, So he gives himself
an allowance to clipboards per year, one that he can
break then when has to survive the season. Uh. And
last night's winning against the Chicago Bulls, he was really
piste off about a couple of things that were going
on with his team's defense. He threw broke a clipboard
on his hand. He did say, quote it was merely
a flesh wound, uh end quote. So he gets a

(37:04):
couple of those. It's a little bit deeper of a
cut this year. So the postgame festivites with the press conference,
he had acknowledged what he did to his hand. Those
clipboards are so exact. It's got the exact court design
of Chase Chase Center, and it also has the empty
seats from the fans showing up on them. It's a joke.
I guess. The question is what's the insurance policy on
that clipboard? Then? Since those seats are probably a thousand

(37:26):
dollars day. I think he purposely did it too. He
didn't have to go to any more games. Guys, how
about a lot. To be fair, most of the loyal
supporters of the Golden Stale Wars can't go to these
games any there anymore. So that's true. Hat in hand. Guys.
How about this one going back to the National Football
I guess who was? I guess it was fine fourteen

(37:47):
thousand dollars for being a good samaritan. Jeez, National Football?
Like you said, yes, um, I'm gonna say that Darius Smith.
Uh mart I I wondered if Sidarius Uth is gonna
get fine for his shirt on Sunday night? Who is
it is? David DeCastro, Oh, that's what it was. That's right, guys.

(38:08):
He was fine fourteen thousand dollars. Now, he wasn't involved
in the melee between Myles Garrett and Mason Ruugh that
whole brawl. He actually wasn't even amongst the players that
was fined. But later on he found out he was
fine fourteen thousand dollars. And all he said he was
trying to do is be a peacekeeper in all this
that was going on. Thanks Dave, He's bucky Brooks. I'm

(38:29):
Dan Buyer. The Lions are driving in barrass Territory down
four thunder a minute ago. Find out how it finishes
next year on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch
the live edition of the Doug gott Leap Show weekdays
at three pm Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. Happy Thanksgiving to you,
and they're very happy at Chicago because the Bears postseason

(38:52):
hopes have stayed alive. You heard David Gascon say it.
But the Bears win in Detroit twenty over the Lions
there six and six Lions faull to three eight and
three eight and one. David Blow came in as the
rookie quarterback and against first start, I think he proved
himself faring very well two yards and two touchdowns. Was

(39:14):
picked off at the end, but it was a fourth
and long for the Lions, so they had they had
a slim chance of converting there. That ends up being
his only turnover. Mitchell Trobinsky three thirty eight three in
or and thirty eight yards at his three touchdowns and
an interception. But the Bears get the victory in Motown,
Bucke holding on for their dear Lives hold on for
their deal. Lives. Good performance for Mitchell Trabinsky a lot. Look,

(39:37):
he's been on the siege the entire season. Everyone is
coming at him. Uh. He and Ryan Pace have faced
a lot of criticism for the Bears taking him second
overall bypassing Pat Mahomes and Shawn Watson to make him
their franchise quarterback. Uh. It was good to see him
play at a level. Not necessarily that he answered questions
about whether he was worthy of being a franchise quarterback,

(39:58):
but he played well enough that at least Ryan Pace
for the next week can have some peace knowing that
his quarterback play will And we joked with David Blow
put him in a poll on my Twitter account at
Dan Buyer own Fox. Who is the NFL m v
P right now, Lamar Jackson or David Blow. David Blow
leads with the vote, so people are yeah, people are
in on it, Bucky, They are in on the joke.

(40:18):
But the realistic nature of why I put this bowl
up was for how much people went head over heels
with Lamar Jackson's performance on Monday. And I bring this
up for the simple fact of this. We were together
maybe a week and a half ago when you did
the Sunday Show with me with games going on and

(40:39):
we had a Lamar Jackson conversation. I think we've had
a bunch of Lamar Jackson conversations. You and I, I felt,
are on the same page of Lamar Jackson. What I
found so surprising was for how many people who wanted
to count him out say that what he was doing
with smoking mirrors, that he's not going to last. Was
how quick how quickly it then turned to him being

(41:03):
the most valuable player in the league. And I know
there are people who stood by the side. I actually
had Russell Wilson as the m v P ahead of
Lamar Jackson for what he's done with the Seahawks. But
to me, it seemed to be a zero to one
hundred push in the span of three hours on Monday night,
where people who wanted to count out Lamar Jackson then
they actually see what he did to the Rams, and
now he's their national league's most National Football Leagu's most

(41:25):
valuable player. To me, it was funny, it was crazy.
It was ridiculous to see how quickly people turned for
one or after one prom time game. Well, yeah, I mean,
the narrative certainly changed on Lamar Jackson. I mean you
had a lot of people who took him to task
and to run up to the draft coming around on him.
I do believe what the Monday Night performance did. It's
the first time that maybe some people have seen him

(41:46):
in a national game. Uh. Some of the games that
are Ravens have played a bit more regional. They haven't
been national nationally televised game. So to see him on
Monday with all odds on him, that's kind of fuel
some of the conversation. I also believe with more information, um,
you kind of get a better perspective on who a
player maybe and who he is. And I think what

(42:06):
we've seen is he leaves the league in touchdowns responsible
for in terms of his rushing touchdowns and his passing touchdowns. Uh,
we're talking about a guy who in the first two
seasons he has over three thousand passing yards and rushing yards.
We're seeing, um, a player who is on pace to
rush for twelve hundred rushing yards this season and to

(42:27):
go with the amount of touchdown passages that he's thrown
and the way that he has looked while kind of
engineering this. I guess old school offense. I think that's
why we're seeing so much praise heaped in his direction.
I find the whole conversation somewhat funny for the simple
fact of I just I think it's a complete It's

(42:48):
a complete performance by the Baltimore Ravens where you put
Lamar Jackson in the situation to succeed and for them
to find ways to do that. The five touchdown passes
is that he threw Bucky. I think they were on
the same route, like there was just it was right.
I think, look, I I know, I know you're a
Seattle Seahawks man, and I know you Wilson. However, at

(43:11):
some point you're gonna have to give him his dude,
Like the five tests have five touchdowns, however they were
to ride however they came up with him. He threw
five testoun passes in the game. I agree with I
agree with that, and I'm not I'm not I'm not
being on the hating train. And I just said, you're
a homer. Wilson serves two interests he fandom and your badger.

(43:34):
But it was so, it was so, it was so quickly,
it was he just moved so quickly to the front
of the line for those that wanted to count him out.
And that's where that to me is that to me
is the fake stuff, because that means you haven't you
haven't paid attention in the first season. And to be honest,
like that same crowd is also waiting for him to

(43:57):
have a bad game so they can be like I
told you so. So it's one of those things. I
think the big thing that I get from Lamar Jackson
in the entire process, we're going to have to open
up our minds to different style quarterbacks potentially being able
to have success in the absolutely and I believe that
one million percent. I don't think when we look at

(44:19):
a quarterback and that's it's of ranking. And I'll use
this see if this fits, because I'm gonna try to
I'm going to try to relate it to a real
world scenario. You've got someone who builds houses, They build mansions,
they build six bedroom, five baths, bath homes, big homes
going for seven digits out here in southern California. They

(44:42):
are the marquee home builder. And then you've got another
home builder who does it show on you know, do
it Yourself network that can build a home on like
fifty square feet, you know, like one of those little,
really little small homes, and I'm I'm exaggerating. House tiny
house is perfect. Who's really the better home builder? Okay,

(45:04):
the guy who has the the the ability to build
the home of six bedrooms in the five bathrooms on
a on a huge yard with a great view, or
the builder who can figure out how to make a
homework in a small amount and make it livable. They're
both home builders. That's how I view quarterbacks in the

(45:24):
National Football League that that it's not you can't judge
them the same way. And maybe what one does with
less it makes that person better than what someone else does.
It's just it's or what style they do it in.
And like I look at Lamar Jackson, there's no other
style in the National Football League that is like what
the Ravens are doing. So to sit there and compare

(45:46):
him like that was done in the first eleven weeks
of the season two with Patrick Mahomes or an Aaron
Rodgers or Tom Brady, it's not fair for the simple
factory're not doing the same things right, Like the Ravens
view envision is different than what the Packer is the Patriots.
But but for so long, the Ravens view or their
utilization of the quarterback the way the utilizing uh Lamar Jackson,

(46:10):
that was always the minority of view. People couldn't understand that,
people couldn't give people credit for playing and an unorthodox way. Well,
now you're seeing more conversation because actually, I think what
is interesting the guy that we're going to watch in
a few minutes, Josh Allen, he plays the game in
a way that is similar to Lamar Jackson. He's they're
not the same talents. But the greatest strength or the

(46:33):
greatest quality of Josh Allen is not necessarily his throwing,
is to added yards that he brings as a runner.
And so what we're now beginning to um need to
do is add another column or another category to the evaluation,
which when we talk about touchdowns responsible for or total
yardage meaning command their rushing and passing yards, um and

(46:56):
let that be the evaluation in terms of how they
impact the game. And with Josh Allen, we're seeing him
impact the game much like Lamar Jackson impacts the game.
Their legs are valuable assets and you have to allow
them to play the game in that manner to be
able to get it done. By the way, you mentioned
Josh Allen and the Bills are comparing them to the Ravens.

(47:17):
The Bills with their targets. I mean, this is not
meant to be a knock on Willie Snead or Hollywood.
Brown is making his debut, but it's not like that.
There are tons of guys with veteran experience around Lamar Jackson.
I mean Mark Andrews, you know, know know one of his
favorite targets, you know, targets young Titan, Hayden Hurst, and
the same thing. At least in Buffalo, you've got Cole

(47:39):
Beasley and John Brown who seemed to come and develop
some sort of rapport with I even maybe give more
of a tip of the cap to Lamar Jackson for
the lack of weapons considering that are around him. Well, yeah,
this thing is different, and I think we have to
look at those things differently. I think when you look
at the way to Baltimore Ravens are built, they are
um built kind of differently in terms of old line

(48:02):
Lamar Jackson, physical running backs, defense, um and that's been
a priority. I don't know if you will ever get
a Markee wide receiver to play in Baltimore as a
free agent. Now you can draft those guys, which is
what Hollywood Brown was. He was a draft pick. He
was a first rounder, so you get your talent in
the drafting. Who knows what what will happen in three
or four years when his deal is up? Does he
resign there? Does he want to go somewhere we can

(48:23):
touch the ball maybe more. I think the big thing
UM and the Lamar Jackson UH conversation that really needs
to be discussed is not necessarily the talents and all
of those things. The intangibles are what strike me from
Lamar Jackson. I think if anyone watched the postgame press conference, UM,
the way he uses we and us and not I.

(48:46):
In me, he is a guy who really really is
about the team. They asked him about the m v
p s that I don't care. I want to win
super Bowls. I'm trying to win rings those things. I
think when we look at quarterbacks, so much of it
is the physical we look at the arm strength and
all those other things. I think we have to spend
more time trying to get to know the guy and
what makes him tick and how will others respond to

(49:08):
his type of leadership because when I look at the Ravens,
I feel like everyone is all in, all the mar
jack something. It's a super Bowl preview maybe coming up
this weekend with the Ravens and forty Niners. I'm not
gonna go that far. I think that there's still a lot,
still a lot of determined sounds like a good super
Bowl matchup for me, But you know what, not for me.

(49:29):
You want to know why I hate super Bowl rematches?
What I think? I'm not gonna rematches. It's been replayed
like years ago, that was what how long? How long ago?
It still bothers me that the two Bengal Super Bowl
appearance appearances were both against the forty Niners. Like, to me,
that's annoying, Like four Bengals fans. They don't have two
teams to hate, they only have one, and then Joe
Montana ripped their hot on the second one. That's that

(49:52):
that bothers me. I hated Patriots Giants for the second time.
Plus those end zones stunk. They were both Navy. The
field looked boring. I like that when there was when
they had different stuff. So that's yeah, I mean this
is I don't want to see I don't want to
see a rematch of Super Bowl. Even though everybody's different,
It's not a rematch all the time. It's not a rematch.

(50:12):
A rematches like let's run it right back, that's not
a remax. I'm just I'm just saying in history, I
love the uniqueness of Super Bowl matchups, So I don't
like the copy. By the way, I'm gonna give you
a stat this is a step, perfect time to do it.
The city of South Florida would say. Miami, South Florida
hosting the Super Bowl for the eleventh time in Super
Bowl fifty four. The New England Patriots have been to

(50:35):
eleven Super Bowls, the most of any team in NFL history.
Patriots have never played a super Bowl in South Florida,
so so the most common super Bowl site has never
hosted the most common super Bowl team. We'll see if
that changes this year. But Miami about to host their
eleventh Super Bowl. Patriots have been in eleven Super Bowls
but have never played a super Bowl in Miami. Was

(50:57):
the first time for everything used that for move? The sticks?
Did used turnover bike or sax sack? Did you use
that non move? The Sticks. I missed the podcasts. I
have not used what else? Did I what else? I
told you something else to the Vikings logo? Did you
use that on Moved the Sticks? And I have not
used that. This's a unique one, all right, Yeah, I
used that one as well. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer.

(51:17):
We are sitting in for Doug Gottlieb on this Thanksgiving Day.
One game down and two to go, and coming up
next we get our Thanksgiving Day revenge. We'll explain next
year on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch the
live edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show week days at
three p m. Easter noon Pacific. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm
Dan Buyer. This is a Thanksgiving Day edition on The

(51:39):
Doug Gottlieb Show. Bears gonna win over the Lions twenties.
So that's the first of three NFL games winning for
the Cowboys and Bills to kick off. Then later tonight
it's the Saints and Falcons from Atlanta. It's becoming a tradition,
like the Lions and Cowboys playing on Thanksgiving that Bucky
and I get together and host on Thanksgiving Day. And
it was a year ago that we did this thing

(52:00):
on Thanksgiving, and John Ramos was here as well as
our technical producer, and we're all hanging out and we
had some fun as we were able to put together
a Thanksgiving Day draft of meal items that was that
was last year. Now it's not groundbreaking radio, but we
had some fun with it. I woke up the next
morning on Black Friday, not with tweets about great deals

(52:22):
in the stores, but on how Ben Maller and the
Mallard militia attacked our Thanksgiving Day meal draft of items
of just how it was I guess lazy radio or
holiday radio or Thanksgiving Day radio, whatever it may be.
It did not make Ben Maller happy. So today we

(52:44):
get our revenge with the Ben Mallers Show draft here
on Fox Sports Radio. He's Bucky Brooks. Vincent closes, our
executive producer, John Ramos is our technical producer. David Gascon's
anty newsdesk. We are going to after the Ben Maller
Show for the the the participants that take part. Now,

(53:04):
I do have the draft order here. I am going
first because it's my idea, and then John Ramos goes.
Then it's the Vince, then it's the Gascon and then Bucky,
you will have the final pick of the first round.
The only thing that could stop this draft is a
call from a Chicago Bear after their win over the Lions. Okay,
Ben Maller doesn't like it when we draft Thanksgiving food items.

(53:27):
We'll see how Ben Maller likes it when we draft
his show. All right, I'm first up, and there is
no doubt. I I gotta take the steadiest, the steadiest
piece of that operation, and that is Eddie Garcia. So
I am going Eddie Garcia number one with the first
overall pick in the Ben Mallard Show Draft here on
Fox Sports Radio. Eddie Garcia goes number one. You guys

(53:51):
think that's a good pick. Is that a solid pick?
Absolutely not. He's a corporate guy. He always takes holidays off.
He is not reliable when you need him to. Eddie
is very reliable to me. I like Eddie as the
number one pick of the Ben Mallard Show Draft. John Ramos,
you are second. Who do you take in the Ben
Mallor Show Draft. Let me tell you, guys something. It

(54:13):
would be dishonest of me not to choose Roberto Flores.
Never choose I had to stick up from my guys.
Technical producer Roberto Flores. Uh, so that's my pick number two.
Roberto shout out to you, my friend. I think that's
I think that is a that is a good, good pick.
I think Roberto solid. He's there, not only that he

(54:33):
sticks around like Eddie does after the Ben Mallard show,
to do even more work. Let's let's go to Let's
go to Vince. Oh, David, did you like the Roberto
Flora's pick? I do? You can't have a show without
a technical producer like John Ramos. We've done it before.
When they've fallen asleep. That's happened. Buggy is Bucky is

(54:54):
excited because there's some there are some guys dropping to him.
But Vince, you are third with the uh with the
selection of the Ben mallor show Man. Looking at the board,
there's a lot of talent. Here's a lot of talent
left on it. But I'm you know, I'm gonna go
with the surprise pick. I'm gonna go with the Ben
mall I'm gonna with the Mallar Militia. I'm gonna go
actual man, Hippie, Marcel, all those guys. I'm gonna call

(55:15):
it the Mallary Militia for third pick. Interesting. This is interesting, Dave.
Do you like that selection? That's good? It makes it
uh coming down to the lire or going down to
the down to the basement for the rest of the
there's no sweet potato pie here being picked. Ben Mallory
w Ben Mallory is still available, will be available at

(55:35):
number four to David Gascon. For the record, I like
to go onto records saying what part of this draft. Hey,
you can trade the pig. You can trade the pick
to Bucky if you'd like. I will trade back to
Bucky brokay alright back. Okay. So in in normal tradition,
when you're building a team, you always need a goon.

(55:57):
And so for me, when I'm building a team, as
I look the Ben mala show, i gotta go with
the biggest goon. So I'm gonna take with the fourth
overall pick in this draft, I got David Gascon. He
produces the Fifth Hour podcast Gascon goes off the Board.
Not did you think you would fall to take yourself, David,

(56:18):
That's why you trade it out. Firstly, I don't think
I'd be drafted at all. I thought it'd be one
of those guys that was a roster spot needed to
be out of the practice squad and uh oh no, no, no,
you're still sure all right? Just to recap because Ben
Maller didn't like when we drafted Thanksgiving Day ideas and
only called us out for it last year, the Ben

(56:39):
Maller Show drafts Eddie Garcia going one, Roberto Flores to
Mallar Militia goes three to vents David Gascon off the
board after Bucky trades up to get David Gascon. Dave,
you're back on the clock after that deal. Well, guys,
since since Vince took the Mallard Militia at number three,
I'm gonna go with the wild card here at number five.

(57:00):
Him take Genie and Medford. Is she a part of
what is there? Genie and Medford is no longer with us? Okay,
all right, I'm taking the ashes of Genie and medical
asses of Genie and Bedford number five that they had
a conversation with that when we did the Fox the
Fox outing outing at Monarch. They were talking about, oh really, yeah,

(57:22):
she's very worthy of being all right, well r I P.
We were thankful that that Genie was in our lives
for so long, Dave, I'd sell you this, but you
got the next pick because you did that trade with Yeah,
so it's a snake draft. Back around to you, David
Gascon with the with the six picked overall, I will
take the recently departed Tom Looney. Oh Tom Looney out

(57:44):
interesting shout out to the Blitz, another colleague that was
on the show. Yes, they did great radio on Saturdays
and teaming up in Sundays as well. Yes, all right,
so this is back to me, right, Yeah, it should
be noted that two guys who Ben Maller is still
available in this draft. Okay, Ben Mallory is still available,

(58:06):
as is Justin Samponia. So yeah, so the producer, So, Bucky,
you are up here, up six six six overall, And
so I'm sitting here and I'm looking at Ben, but
I kind of want a star player. So I want
to go for a star player in the second round.
Someone has tremendous potential. I'm gonna go what you got Justin.
Let's just Samponia in Star of Liar Liar. Yeah, so

(58:31):
Justin Samponia goes seven. Vince, we already you at eight.
We only have three picks left. John will pick next,
and then I'll have the final pick of the draft, Vince.
So this is a tough one. I was looking at
what was left off on the draft board, and I
want to go with somebody that you know isn't always there,
but really, when he comes, he comes with it and
he's Mr adjective, my favorite update anchor on the weekends.

(58:54):
Brian friendly fanatics jumping in the and Lee fanatics are
in there. Brian Fenley gets taken eighth overall. John Ramos,
if you can think of anybody associated with the Ben
Mallow Show, that would be a good pick, because you
know you're you're in late in the second round. Only
you can answer this question because I'm usually sleep at

(59:15):
that time. But what if I took Ralph Irvin? Has
he ever took? Absolutely? Absolutely? Ralph has And I'll take
Ralph Irvin as my next pick. All right, Ralph Irvin
goes and finally Ralph Irvan with the final pick of
the second round. I gotta do it. I'll take Ben.

(59:36):
I'll take the Ben Mallard ends up being the second round,
the final pick of our draft and the Ben Mallors
Show draft. Ben didn't like it when we took sweep
and Tata pie over pecan pie or mashed potatoes. So
we get our revenge this year with our Ben Mallow
show draft. There it is good job, guys, good job.

(59:59):
I think it also show was the support staff that's
behind Ben Maller, Right, Dave, do you think this is
a good good draft? I got hell about this a
couple of days ago. I got a hell about it
during the show and it happened. What what what? He thought?
It was my idea about doing it Thanksgiving Day draft,

(01:00:19):
and so they because Ben usually works on holidays. Anyway, Still,
that night I was woken up by notifications on Twitter
that I was conducting lazy van radio as he put it,
during the middle of the day. That was last year, right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I was No. I got him too as well, and
so hopefully this wasn't lazy. We actually think I think

(01:00:40):
this was better. This was this was better, This is better.
Say I had more nowlags because the Thanksgiving the anything
is tricky because you and I debated over pumpkin pos
wee potato pi where do we put the brown and
served roles in the stuffing and craning yourself? But not
this real people, real, actually because I've been able to
evaluate these people, so I felt better about this draft
that supposed to the other one. Bucky spent four hours

(01:01:01):
with Ben mallor. Actually maybe it was five considering how
long it took you guys to finish. It took us
a long time. But I learned a lot. Don't learn
a lot. I learned a lot about how to went
how not to play oh spectacular. We'll put the results
on Twitter at Dan Buyer, run Fox at Bucky Brooks. Uh.
Maybe this will be a part of I don't know, Dave,
maybe the Fifth Hour podcast. Yeah, maybe you can bring

(01:01:23):
that up, make that happen. I'm sure I'll hear about it.
This is the only time. Look, you know, this is
the only time that I don't hear you kind of
being the aggressive because most time you have plenty of conversation,
plenty of words. But now I feel like you're cowering
back in the corner. I don't like this. Gas on
You're you're Kna McGregor. That's been hit. Yeah, I need

(01:01:43):
you to respond, like what, like, what is it? I
was as I was told back when I was young,
there's a time in place for everything, and the time
is not now place issarily not now. It's Thanksgiving days.
I'm just I'm just thankful to be alive. Guy, good stuff.
That's David scot He's gonna have more for us in
a sec. But I gotta tell you this. That's Bucky Brooks.

(01:02:03):
I'm Dan Buyer. Thanks to Vince Close and John Romo's
our executive and technical producers on this Thanksgiving Day. Thank
you so much for joining us on this Thanksgiving Whether
you're home, or you're traveling, or you're just hanging out
listening to us, we appreciated Bills and Cowboys coming up.
A big game for the Cowboys and also a big
game for the Buffalo Bills. Fox Sports Radio has the
best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of

(01:02:26):
our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com and within
the I Heart Radio app. Search f s R to
listen live. Jason Garrett maybe coaching for his job. Do
you think if the Cowboys lose this game, Bucky, that
Jason Garrett would be out of a job by the
end of this weekend? No, no better in this weekend.
I think Jerry Jones is gonna live up to his
word when he says, look, he's not gonna make any

(01:02:46):
mid season changes. However, I think we all understand the
pressure that is on Jason Garrett. They gotta perform and
play well. This is a game that's going to test
him though, because the Buffalo Bills are a wild coach team.
Their team that is very, very fundamentally sound, and if
you're not own your p's and ques, you're gonna have
a tough time beating. And we will see which Cowboys
team shows up. By the way, the Buffalo Bills when
they're all blues today, which I think is a is

(01:03:09):
a sharp look. I don't know if anybody's jumping off
any Thanksgiving daytables, but I don't know why Thanksgiving would
be any different for anything with the Bills. Mafia one
of my favorite stories, and this reminds me of you
don't see Bill's Cowboys a lot. We saw it in
a couple of Super Bowls back to back. There was
a rematch of a Super Bowl if you will, Bucky.
But when the Bills first played in the stadium, they're

(01:03:31):
old running back Fred Jackson. Fred Jackson, yeah, really good
running back in the National Football League, actually lived in
a neighborhood where the stadium was built. So his house
was like around the ten yard line. But when they
this was when he was growing up. Obviously the room
was made for the stadium to be built, but Fred
Jackson's home was actually built on the site of where

(01:03:52):
a T and T stadium built. Right now, there's some
more stuff removed the sticks if you'd like to pass
along the the The Buffalo Bills, by the way, are
eight and three. They're holding a two game lead in
the a f C with so much I don't know
talked about with the Dallas Cowboys. Can we safely say
that the Buffalo Bills are in the postseason? I mean,

(01:04:13):
is this a team that with a two game lead
with five to play? That are they? Are they a
team that we can kind of say, all right, we
don't think they're gonna win the division, but they're gonna
lock up one of those wild cards. Are you safe
in saying that the Buffalo Bills, who, by the way
of games against the Ravens, Steelers, Patriots, and Jets after this,
can we put them in the playoffs with a two
game lead with five to go? Well, typically, Tim, we'll

(01:04:35):
get you in. I think they'll find a way to
get two more games. Now, what's tough for the Buffalo
Bills if they've beaten the teams that they were supposed
to beat, and they struggle against the teams that were
even or better. So this is a huge game with
them because this is an even game, one in which
they should be in a situation to win. We'll see
if they can get it done. I like Buffalo. I
like their makeup. We talked about it earlier, Bucky kind

(01:04:55):
of comparing them somewhat to what the Baltimore Ravens are doing.
But I mean defense of Lee. Going from the Patriots
now in a short week to face Buffalo, I think
it's gonna be tough for Dallas and to to also
have Bucky the questions about Dallas is play calling. I'm
curious to see how much the Cowboys end up trying
to change that narrative. I don't think that they didn't

(01:05:18):
get away from the run against the Patriots. Actually ran
it more than New England did. It was just in
certain scenarios where the play calling was very questionable. Of heck,
the third one call against New England was even a
question where a tripping call was made if you aren't
pass blocking in that situation, you're likely not tripping someone.
So see the Cowboys throw the ball on third and

(01:05:38):
one instead of just handing it off to Ezekiel Elliott
and getting that one yard. Those are the types of
decisions that I think end up ruining the Cowboys. And
I'm curious if they take the criticism or backlash that
they got from Sunday and try to change that narrative
early on here. Well, I mean, obviously they they've heard everything.
Their own event has been very very loud about what

(01:05:58):
he expects from his team to how I hope that
he has for this team, and so they have to
start living up to it. We're now getting down to
crunch time. You talk about six and five if five
games left for the for the Dallas Cowboys to prove
that their team just worthy being that conversation. And so
Jason Garrett, his coaching staff, Dak Prescott, Zekiel Elliott, those
top players, they have to get it done. It is
now a player every game as a playoff scenario for

(01:06:19):
them because they have to continue to win and get
in because the field Eagle schedule is very, very soft stretch.
I like if these teams get in the playoffs, I
honestly would rather face Dallas than I want to face
Buffalo in the one game scenario of what you've got
to face? How much? How much is Buffalo like Jacksonville?
From is Ezekiel Elliott takes a screen pass and gets

(01:06:41):
into Buffalo territory. We mentioned the comparison to the Ravens.
How much is Buffalo like Jacksonville that went to the
a f C Championship Games two years ago? A little different?
I think that Jacksonville was different in terms of I
felt like there was a level of dominants we saw
them kick the Pittsburgh still is in the teeth. During
the regular season, I don't know if the Buffalo Bills
have a notable win against a team that we viewed

(01:07:03):
as a powerhouse or a team that was a winner.
So until they knock off one of those teams, I
don't think we can put them in the same line.
Ezekiel Elliott, as it mentioned, gets the Cowboys within the
thirty yard line of Buffalo, will kind of follow this
game as it's just kicking off Cowboys and Bills as
Ezekiel Elliott gets a gain of five. You can find
Bucky on Twitter at Bucky Brooks. I met Dan Buyer

(01:07:24):
on Fox and you can always tweet us at Fox
Sports Radio. Final questions at least with these Dallas Cowboys
or the issues that we heard during this week. I
mentioned the Cowboys using Ezekiel Elliott. Also heard some backlash
on social media of the usage of Ezekiel Elliott that
Zeke maybe hasn't cashed in on his contract like the

(01:07:46):
Cowboys would have hoped to. I think that talk is
pretty premature, right, I mean, you pay you pay Ezekiel
Elliott to be your stud running back for the next
three years and to get it to get things done
in the postseason, right, So I right, I mean that's
fair enough. Right, Yeah, it's fair that's fair enough. The
Chicago Bears gotta win over the Detroit Lions to twenty.

(01:08:08):
Mitchell Trobiski through three touchdown passes. He also threw nine
completions to Anthony Miller, who had a game high one
d and forty yards. And on this Thanksgiving Day, Anthony
Miller joins us here on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Anthony,
Bucky Brooks is with me. I'm dad, buy are happy Thanksgiving?
How are you? What kind of week is this? I mean,
how different is this from a normal Thursday night sort

(01:08:31):
of week when you guys have to kick off basically
right after twelve thirty Eastern time? Was the was the
Thanksgiving Day schedule affect you guys at all? And preparing
for the Lions today, Um, what we did this last year,
so the majority of guys on the team know how
to go. Um, you know, we know how to prepare
and um, I believe we just handle everything in person

(01:08:53):
to need today. You know, and in thinking about the
situation you guys, obviously you're still holding out hopes for
the playoffs. What kind of urgency exist in that locker
room knowing that each and every game really really matters
down to stretch? Yeah, man, I said it the Meion
times of every game matters. Were playing with our backs
against the wall, you know, basically it's winning go home.
But uh, you know, we we've just been focused on

(01:09:16):
you know, all the details and getting everything right and um,
you know, just just trying to make it man sack
the w Anthony Miller at a game high one hundred
and forty yards for the Bears, and they went over
the lines today. He joins us here on Fox Sports Radio.
Mitchell Drabinsky has gotten criticism this year. How much is
a receiving group and as a receiver, do you guys
try to take that pressure off? What are the things

(01:09:38):
that you guys try to do to help out your quarterbacks?
He's been under the microscope. Man. We just gotta take
advantage of every opportunity given to us, you know. Um,
you know bought his our hands. We gotta catch you,
you know. Um, I feel like I had a terrible
first half. I think I had a drop, um and
a couple of other small issues. But you know, I

(01:09:59):
feel like way better as a player, and um, some
other guys that may have made a mistake, but you know,
we pulled together as a team that I got to do,
you know. And thinking about this because you guys have
been under the microscope. There has been so much outside
conversation about the Chicago Bears and the quarterback. How are
you guys able to maintain your focus and really focus

(01:10:19):
on the main thing, which is playing your best ball
down the stretch. Well, we just believe in ourselves, and
we believe in our scheme and what each other can do.
And um, you know, we just don't let the outside,
you know, pressure us into plan uh, like a team
that we're not. I feel like we're a great team.
We can compete with anybody, and um, you know, we

(01:10:40):
just got to prepare for that list next week. Anthony
Miller joining us here. So what are the plans now?
Do you get home? Do you have Thanksgiving dinner tonight?
Are you doing Black Friday shopping tomorrow? Now that you've
played the early game, what's the next hours like for
Anthony Miller, Well, I'm definitely getting home and going to
get some risk and getting something to eat. Man. And uh,

(01:11:01):
it's like the word Saturday, I believe, because we got
a short week, you know, Thursday, another Thursday game, so um,
you know, we just gotta handle thing. Recording all right,
Anthony Miller will let you go and start your Thanksgiving break.
Appreciate it. Great game today, Congratulations on the winning. Good
luck a week from the day against them Cowboys. All right, man,

(01:11:21):
thank you Anthony Miller of the Chicago Bears. It's a
nice perk, by the way that the NFL always gives
the Cowboys that Thursday game the next week as well.
I mean, it's America's team. It's hey, do it's happen
for like, I don't know, maybe three of the it
happens more often than not America's team. They're America's team,
take care of He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer again.

(01:11:45):
Thanks to Bears wide receiver Anthony Miller for joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio. A big day today, it
was Miller Tommy had the big catch to set up
their game winning touchdown against Detroit. Bears approved to six
and six on the season. He's Bucky Brooks. Get him
on Twitter at Bucky Brooks. I'm at Dan Buyer. On five.
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show on this Thanksgiving Day.
A very happy Thanksgiving to you. What's the one thing

(01:12:05):
holding the New England Patriots back from a possible Super
Bowl repeat? We'll tell you next year on Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
gott Leap Show weekdays at three pm Easter noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm
Dan Buyers sitting in on this Thanksgiving Day for Doug.

(01:12:27):
John Romils is here as well as is Vincent Closen,
David Gascon hanging out with us just because Doug isn't here,
just because it's Thanksgiving Day doesn't mean we won't do
what Doug normally does at this time. And that's here
about some great programming or something from one of our
great shows on Fox Sports Radio. In a segment we
like to call now before we get to Ben Maller's

(01:12:48):
take on Tom Brady and the Patriots, said, do you
want to let you know that Dak Prescott is throwing
a touchdown pass to Jason Witten. Cowboys lead the Bill
seven or nothing midway through the first quarter. Bills ended
up punting it back to Dallas, so the Cowboys will
have the ball for the second time with that seven
point lead. Here was Ben Maller talking about Tom Brady
and him well, not being a liability for the Super Bowl?

(01:13:09):
Is Tom Brady a liability for the Patriots and their
chances of winning the Super Bowl in Miami? Tom Brady
last season had shaky numbers. Now, granted, he has worst
numbers this year than he did last year, but during
the regular season Brady was on the ropes. He did
not appear to have it anymore. His performance had clearly declined.

(01:13:31):
He hadn't fallen off the cliff, but he was standing
near the edge of the cliff ready to jump, uh
and do a free jump. The idea that the Patriots
can't win the Super Bowl without him lighting up the
scoreboard false. It's it's farcical, right. There is more than
one way to bake a kick to win a football
and there's three tiers to football. Offense is obviously the

(01:13:54):
most popular defense, and then the one that's forgotten his
special teams. And despite Brady's offensive limitations, New England is
really really good in two of the three areas. So
to say that they're dead on arrival because Brady's not
carrying his weight is wrong. Do you agree with Ben

(01:14:15):
that maybe we are counting Tom Brady out too soon?
If for those that are counting him out are doing
it too soon, they should count him out because everyone
is scared of Tom Brady, like he's the big bad wolf,
so everyone is fraid afraid to call the spade is spade.
He has not played well the last year, Like since
the middle to the end of last season. Throughout this
season he has not played great. He had a three

(01:14:36):
game run at the beginning of the year, but if
you take that three game span out of it. He's
been a bottom third quarterback, passer rating, completion percentage, against
the blitz pressure rate, all of those things. Tom Brady
has not been an upper level quarterback in the only
thing that I can say about Tom Brady is Tom

(01:14:56):
Brady is Mike Tyson. Not the Mike Tyson that came
man and knocked Michael Spinks out in ninety one seconds.
Tom Brady is a Mike Tyson that stood in the
ring before Lennox Lewis. You see the black shorts, you
see the black shoes, you see the tile dropped around him,
and you still remember the mystique, but the magic is gone. Yes,
he can win a game winning drive, but the days

(01:15:17):
of Tom Brady putting that team on his shoulders and
winning they're done. But wouldn't he be doing that in
a game winning drive, like isn't he? Isn't he there too?
It may not be the way that the Patriots played previously,
but if he could get them to that point, isn't
that what the Patriots would take in one? So I
don't know if he can get him to that point,
though I don't believe he can get him to that

(01:15:38):
point over the course of a game. You just sat
here and watched him play last Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Tom Brady didn't play great in that game. They've benefited
from a block punt that gave him a short field
and another turnover they gave him a short field. He
didn't dominate that game. At some point, when defensive coordinators
quit looking at Tom Brady for the guy that's in

(01:15:59):
the twelve jersey and really evaluate who the player is,
they'll play the Patriots differently. But right now, the Patriots
are not the same team. Their quarterback is not one
of the top quarterbacks in the game. And so look,
father time catches up to everybody is caught up to him.
It's catching up to Philip Rivers, it is caught up
to Drew Brees. You cannot play this game effectively as

(01:16:22):
an old player for long. He is an older player.
We're beginning to see the signs of him slipping. I
am hard pressed. And it's not that I feel that
I'm just so used to it, but I just always
feel in a game sixty minute scenario, which is really
what it is. So when we're sitting your ranking quarterbacks
saying this guy is better when it comes to the playoffs.

(01:16:44):
It comes it comes down to what do you do
in that sixty minutes of game time? And Tom Brady's
maybe biggest strength right now is that he has Bill
Belichick and that defense on his side. That's what makes
it difficult for me is I think I think that
he will be able to make enough plays for them
to whatever when the pof what have we've had this
one we had? What do we've had this year? Though?

(01:17:05):
Like like forget about everything that happened yesteryear, wiped it away,
like this is meant in black, I just hid you.
So now, just based on what we've seen this year,
what makes you scared of Tom Brady? Based on what
you've said? Nothing, nothing makes me I'm scared. You're still nervous,
still nervous like he still did. You're still scared to
look up under your bed because the boogeyman, well he's
the boogeyman for you know. I do think when you

(01:17:28):
look at the a f C Championship game last year,
you don't have Gronk anymore. I mean like when you
would go to Gronk on third down like they did
in Kansas City, you don't have that. You do still
have Julian Edelman. Yeah, but interception and then championship they
would have wiped it away. He did, but deep board
was offside. Yes, So so we've seen him also have

(01:17:48):
flubs and in critical situation. Well, I mean, I hope
it's over, and I hope the book you're talking about it,
you're that guy. Are you gonna watch them and the
playoffs in You're you're still waiting for the other shoe
to drop. Yes, it's over. Yes, that would be music
too many people of years. Maybe over for the Bills.
Cowboys are trying to score again. We'll talk about it

(01:18:10):
next year on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch
the live edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at

facing a third and eight yet to be on the
scoreboard is here David gascon mentioned and now they're gonna
get a first down on a penalty from the Cowboys. Secondary.
We'll keep you up to date of what's happening between
the Bills and Cowboys, and really what's the game of

(01:18:32):
the day on this Thanksgiving Day? But the game earlier
pretty good one. Bears top the Lions, twenty to keep
their playoff hopes alive. Anthony Miller of the Bears joined us.
If you want to hear that interview, you can always
go to iTunes subscribe to the Doug Gottlieb Show, download
the interview, and download the show every day if you
would like. He is Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer, keeping

(01:18:52):
our eye on this game. In about twenty minutes or so,
we'll check in for the show down tonight with the
Saints and Falcons. Good buddy. Chris Gordy from Sports twelve
of eighty in New Orleans will be joining us. I
don't need to talk about the Saints and what they've
got going ahead, but also the LSU Tigers, who dropped
to number two in the latest college football playoff rankings.
See what's ahead for l s U is They're going
to be heading to the SEC Championship game after this

(01:19:14):
weekend to face Georgia. We'll dive into that in so
much more. Do you want to let people know? You
can find Bucky on Twitter at Bucky Brooks. I'm at
Dan Buyer on Fox New Thanksgiving tradition, we have the
Ben Mallow Show draft and a new tradition people swearing
at us on Thanksgiving Day for who we picked. So
there we go. That's what we've got here, just having
some fun. We love everybody, and we're thankful for all

(01:19:35):
of you for joining us on this Thanksgiving Day. And
if you're traveling and you're traveling in bad weather, where
it seems to be a lots around this country, just
please be safe. The the Rams had a quite a
difficult Thanksgiving weekend. It had nothing to do with travel.
They were at home Monday and it was the team
that traveled to the Coliseum to take out the Baltimore Ravens.

(01:19:55):
Now there's Rams team right now still has a chance
to make the postseason, but they're on the outside looking
in of this playoff picture. So let's just say that
things stay status quo and the Rams don't make it
to the postseason after going to Super Bowl fifty three
and losing to the New England Patriots. We talked a
little bit earlier about maybe teams not trying to draft

(01:20:17):
the next Sean McVeigh, maybe they'll look in the veteran coaches.
You said that you think that there could be a
comeback of guys who had previous head coaching jobs and
turning over. So what do we learn from the Rams?
I mean, the Rams seemed to be the team that
everybody learns from or tries to learn from, or tries
to do things, whether the way they did it or
not the way that they did it. When you look
at the Rams, what can we learn from what happened

(01:20:39):
to that team in the in the span of about
nine or ten months. The Rams are a great example
of you always have to start over each and every year.
And I think for the Rams, because they had the
Super Bowl success and they went to the Zoo Bowl,
even though they came up short, I believe they felt
like that they would start this season right back in

(01:21:00):
the NFC Championship Game or playing the Super Bowl all
over and each and every year. Your team is really
like a snowflake, like they always kind of evolve and
emerge over time. And I think what has happened Sean
McVeigh hasn't evolved as the rest of the league has
begun to catch up with the Ramp. The way the
Rams operate and go about their business, not only on

(01:21:22):
offense but on defense. And so for what we celebrated
him for two years as boy wondered the genius the
offensive wizard to guru, he now is facing his biggest
challenge and surprisingly he hasn't had any answers, And so
I think that's the biggest takeaway from me. If you're
an offensive guru, you always have to continue to evolve,

(01:21:45):
You always have to find a way to challenge yourself
to stay one step ahead of the posse. Right now,
the league is caught up to the way the Rams
operate on offense, and we're waiting on Sean McVeigh to
counter the move that we've seen the league do with him.
What are his options? And the reason that I say
it say it that way is because I look at
the Rams as a team that changed their offensive line.

(01:22:09):
Where when they invested, I mean when they brought in
Andrew Witworth, it wasn't like he was young then anyway,
So there's gonna be a point where you end up
moving on from him. You knew that in Dominican soup
probably wasn't gonna be there a long time and keep
the lead was older when you brought him on. So
these moves that they made to go all in are
also moves that that whether they worked out or didn't
work out, the point is is the shelf life of

(01:22:30):
those moves were only gonna be so long, and maybe
they were a bit shorter. But so if those things
don't work out, and now maybe Jared Goff isn't progressing
as you would have hoped, what does he do well
a couple of things like those moves. Actually, in my estimation,
they did work out because they made it to the
Super Bowl. They just lost to a better team, a
team they played better on that night. Um, I think

(01:22:50):
the bigger thing was what was the backup plan to
when those guys moved on? What was the backup plan
to when they lost a couple of linemen on the
offensive line Rogers Saffo signing, free agent deal, Um Sullivan retirement.
Did they have the right replacements? Because really a lot
of the issues stem from the fact stem from the

(01:23:10):
fact that they are no longer dominant at the line
of scrimmage. When they were at their best for two years,
their offensive line dominated. They were one of the best
stretch outside zone teams that we could find. They ran
the misdirection action behind of it, but man Ty Gurley
was getting five and six yards of clip running outside zone.
Jerry golf was protected. They were throwing off play action
and everything was working well. As that foundation shows cracks

(01:23:34):
and that offensive line isn't able to move people off
the ball. We now see that man Jerry Golf doesn't
look the same. Ty Gurley doesn't look the same. Sean
mcveigh's plays don't have the same result. So Sean McVeigh
has to fix the offensive line and then he has
to add the icing to the cake when it comes
to the misdirection interception that really gave people a lot

(01:23:55):
of problems. What I find interesting and I agree with
you like they they got to the point are actual
all in play was successful. But now when you see
the drop off, and the crazy thing is is that
what the Rams are sitting there, They're sitting at six
and five. If you're in the a f C, you're
in the thicket things, you're you're sitting there hanging out. Hey,
we're in the playoff picture. We're able to we're tied

(01:24:18):
with three other teams. It's the fact that this year's
NFC is so stacked, with the NFC North having two
really good teams and the Rams owned division of having
really two good teams that they were on the outside
looking in. So I do think some of it is
maybe uh misconstrued a little for for just there're six
and five, you know, I mean, they do haven't win

(01:24:39):
over the Saints. I know it was a game that
Drew Brees was knocked out of. It's just not what
you're used to normally seeing. And because the landscape of
the NFC that they're out there on their way out
looking in. But I think that the Jared Goff contract
was one that was a huge topic this week. The
Todd Gurley contract now is a huge topic where you're
wondering if teams end up all right now, are they
gonna have second thoughts and paying the running backs. I

(01:25:01):
don't think other teams in the NFL Bucky should take
exactly what the Rams did and say, okay, well we
can't do that. But you have to look at the situation.
The Rams tried to take a couple of mid round
picks to replace those veteran offensive linemen and that didn't
work out. So so maybe as the Rams are trying
to figure out ways or other teams are trying to
figure out ways, is saying yourself, Okay, well we can't

(01:25:23):
go cheap or we can't just rely on a guy
that we take in the fifth round and hopefully that
we can plug him in. I think those are the
lessons that teams are gonna have to learn when following
the Rams. Yeah, I think all of that is in play,
and I think they are under the scope in terms
of their team building mythology. The fact that they paid
a lot of money to only a handful of guys. Um,

(01:25:43):
Brandon Cooks, Todd Gurley, Jared goff Uh, Aaron Donald has
gotten paid, Jalen Ramsey will be next up. Um, They're
paying these guys top five money, and you now wonder
can you sustain a team when you have so much
money tied into so few players. And so with the
money side up in those players and without first round picks,

(01:26:07):
their front office is kind of putting themselves in a
corner where they're going to have to really hit on
their draft picks outside of the first round, and it's
just hard to do. And so there are a lot
of teams that not necessarily are hoping for them to
feel but there are a lot of I told you so,
it is waiting to see the Rams falter under the
approach that they elected to use. Well, you you're not

(01:26:28):
a big draft pick believer at the top of the draft,
right I mean I am. I mean I think like, obviously,
if you you can get good players, but I am
more of the mindset, if I know what a player is,
I'll take a known commodity over the mystery. UM. I
would rather have something that I know rather than wait
for what's behind door number two or door number three.

(01:26:48):
So they don't have their two first round picks because
of the Jail and Ramsey trade, so it's important that
they resigned j round. Yeah, it's very important that they do.
But I'm not sure if the Rams valued those first
round picks as much. And I think I think there's
I think some people overvalue first round picks because, um,
when you go back and you really look at this league,

(01:27:09):
this league is a first round league. But then if
you go back and we had to quiz you on
some of the first rounders that were drafted three or
four years ago, you'll probably be surprised at the names
that at the time we were so hot and heavy
and smitten about. UM. I think each case UM has
to be evaluated on an individual basis. But uh, if
you let me have the opportunity to get a blue

(01:27:32):
chip player that I've seen performing the league. I would
take that over an unknown more times than not. In
the draft seehaw seven struggles on the first round picks
since Earl Thomas. So I've been waiting for a long time.
They care less let me know of teams. I it's
it's just it's unique. Like I I tipped the cap
to the Rams for their plan actually following through. It's

(01:27:53):
just now that reality is here. It's here, like, okay,
all right, that balloon payment for you know, a mortgage,
all of us, and oh you never thought that time
would come for the Rams. You're like, all right, well,
that time is gonna come way down the line. And
almost at the time has arrived, maybe a little sooner.
I think that's what's got the the Rams folks, uh,
just scratch their head a little bit. The good thing

(01:28:14):
is in the fight for l A right now. The
battle with the Chargers doesn't seem to be like a
battle at all. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer. This
is the Doug Gottlieb Show. On the Thanksgiving Day of
very Happy Thanksgiving to you. Find Bucky on Twitter at
Bucky Brooks. I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox. The Sames
try to get revenge tonight against the Atlanta Falcons, but
they're playing for much more. We'll dive into that next
year on Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the

(01:28:36):
best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of
our shows at Fox sports Radio dot com and within
the I Heart Radio app search f s R to
listen live. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer on this
Thanksgiving Day again. Cowboys up on the bill seven nothing
early in the second quarter. Deck Prescott a touchdown pass

(01:28:56):
to Jason Witten. That's been the only scoring outside of
the extra point in Game two of this NFL tripleheader.
Earlier today, the Bears trump dot topped, dropped, whatever you
want to say. They defeated the Lions to twenty and
the Saints that Falcons come up later tonight in Atlanta.
That's where we start again. Bucky Brooks, I'm Dan Buyer
in for Doug. It is the Saints and Falcons tonight

(01:29:16):
joining us now. You can hear them weekdays in New
Orleans on Sports twelve eighty in the Big Easy from
ten until Newton local time. Chris Gordy joins us here
on Fox Sports Radio. Hey Chris, Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks again
for coming on. It's like a holiday tradition, you know,
reach out to Chris Gordy. You gotta you gotta leave
the family and come on out. Let's be honest. We're

(01:29:39):
not talking to you. If l s U isn't one
of the top teams, if not the best team in
college football, We're not talking to you. If Zion Williamson
isn't drafted by the Pelicans, or Anthony Davis is traded
to the Lakers, and we're not talking to you. If
the Saints are just ho home in the National Football League,
they are anything but ho home. So I want to
start with the Saints this year. I'm curious about this

(01:30:00):
the and about this fan base on how long it
took them to get over the past interference call, if
it's still hanging out, and how this team is seemed
to put that behind them, even considering what happened last
week against Carolina. What has kind of been the transition
from that loss last year in the NFC Championship game
to where this team is now near the top of
the NFL. Well, you kind of said it there. I mean,

(01:30:22):
the fans have not gotten over I mean the fans
are still uh you know, I texted a buddy of
mine right when we saw this Cowboys game and kick off,
and he texted me and goes, oh, look who's officiating
this game? Bill Vinovic. I mean, we know the fact
we still know that guy's name and cringe when we see.
Let you know how we feel about the no call
in the NFC Championship game. I mean, look, we know

(01:30:44):
the aftermath of what's comes from it, and a lot
of people are are not enjoying the past interference challenge
uh play this year, but that's a whole another topic.
But no, I mean, look, the team has kind of
gotten over. The team has been able to put it
behind him and and honestly, Sean Payton And look, there's
tremendous candidates for Coach of the Year, but I put
Sean Payton in that category for how he was able

(01:31:05):
to withstand the loss of Drew Brees for those several weeks. Uh,
Teddy Bridgewater did an admirable job filling in there. But
the fact that they're sitting here right here at nine
to two, second best record in the NFC, and you know,
they got a date with the forty Niners next week,
and we'll see what happens with them in the Bravens
this week, but a chance to go get that top
seed again in the NFC this year. I think the

(01:31:26):
Saints are right where they want to be. You know,
I'm thinking about the Saints being right where they want
to be. How do you feel about Drew Brees right now?
Do you feel like he's lost anything? Do you feel
like he's still playing at a level where he can
guide into a Super Bowl? Yeah? I mean it's funny
if fans feel like that sometimes, because honestly, I think
it's partly the play cole. You know, some people are saying, oh,

(01:31:47):
Drew can't dip it down the field like he used to. Well,
Chump Payton doesn't call a whole lot of those plays
like they used and I think the reason for that
is they don't have the Deverie Henderson's or the Robert meetschums,
so the guys that they used to have that could
really stretch the yield. You know, Ted Gain is really
the only vertical threat, and he's about to be thirty
five years old, So I think there's a little misconception
about that. When they do take shots down the field,

(01:32:09):
threw is still pretty accurate. It complete, And I think
about sevent his passes this year. Who's thirty for thirty
nine this past week against Carolina. So I think the
fact that most of us, you know, are trying to
write off Drew Brees, I think he's going out there
and showing he's still got a lot left in the tank.
And you know, honestly, I think him missing half the
season with that injury kind of rejuvenated him. And if

(01:32:29):
you remember last year, we talked about him kind of
running out of gas down the stretch. Remember those last
few games last season, he didn't look as good as
he did the first half. I think I think that's
gonna come back to help the Saints come playoff time
this year. The fact that Drew did miss those games
gonna be a little bit more healthier. Chris Gordy joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio. I'll find him on
Twitter at Chris Gordy. You can hear him in New
Orleans and Sports twelve eighty from ten until noon to

(01:32:51):
weekdays in New Orleans. This may sound like a stupid question,
but I think you understand what I'm gonna What I'm
gonna ask what I mean by it? But are they
relying too much on Michael Thomas? You know, It's funny,
and somebody brought that up on my show this week.
They said, man, they go to him too much. You
know that he's just the one guy. And I'm going, well,
when he's that good, you do go to him that

(01:33:12):
that many times. And I said, you don't think defensive
coordinators are sitting in their room doing their game planet going,
you know, forget that Michael Thomas. Gut, We're gonna worry
about everybody else. He's absolutely on their radar. They're trying
to stop him. He's just that good. He catches everything
that's thrown his way. And it's unbelievable when you talk
about he is literally on pace to break Marvin Harrison's
single single season record back in two thousand to uh

(01:33:34):
if he keeps up the space, and there's no reason
to think he won't. You know, you're talking about the
Saints and everyone is excited about them, but they're a
faction of college football observers that are really excited about
what's happening at l s U, namely what's taking place
with Joe Burrow. What has been the biggest difference in
Joe Burrow from last year to this year, because he
looks like an All Star this year. Well, one thing

(01:33:56):
nobody's really talked about is the fact when he transferred
from Ohio State, he was ahead of Curve and he
was able to graduate, and so he's taken I think,
only one class this semester and whatever it is, ballroom
dancing or whatever Matt Liner took years ago. So he
was able to focus on Zohl off season, on his
preparation UHI study and film and really working with Joe Brady,

(01:34:16):
the Saint's assistant who came over and kind of helped
revitalize this passing game. So I'd say it's fifty percent
Joe Burrow and his work at fifty percent the scheme
and the offense that Joe Brady and Steve Bensminger had
put together. But it's nothing short of phenomenal. I mean,
the fact that he's going to have the single best record,
uh single best season of any SEC passer in history,
I think speaks for itself. And look earlier this season, Bucky,

(01:34:39):
we were talking about maybe, hey, it would be cool
if the Saints could draft Joe Burrow and he could
kind of learn behind Drew Brees and all this, and
by mid season we started looking on and wait a minute,
this guy not gonna be in the Saints teractor. He's
gonna get top ten pick in the draft. And I
think that's kind of a what most Saint Strets kind
of lookd. I go on, well, shoot, who's gonna be
the future of this of this organization and kind of
one of the things we're looking now. Maybe two US

(01:35:01):
starts to fall down on people's sports, but it's amazing
to see that, you know, not since JaMarcus Russell el
wants you will have al l quarterback on top ten
in the draft. Joe Burrow I think in one of
the odds makers been online had of it at one
to thirty to win the Heisman Trophy this week, because
it was one one to twenty last week, and it
even got better after their their win against Arkansas last Saturday.

(01:35:24):
He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer. Chris Gordy of Sports
twelve eight. He joins us here in on Fox Sports Radio,
Christian New Orleans weekdays from ten until noon. Do well
do Tiger fans care if they're one or two? There
was a lot of talk of maybe the committee setting
this up whereaf Ohio State runs the table, then you
wouldn't have a rematch if Alabama ends up breaking the

(01:35:44):
top four. I mean, I know you want to be
number one, but are they cognizant of maybe why the
committee was dropped them a spot or is that just
unrealistic to think of. I think it's silly, and I
think that I think what we freaking get what gets
lost in all this is resume and and hey, did
you win your game? I think we get caught up
in the style points and oh L s u s

(01:36:05):
defense looks shaky in the second half against Old Miss. Again,
my question is that they beat Old Miss, that they
cover the problem. So I think we get caught up
in that, particularly the College Football Playoff Committee does. But look,
I think L. S U wants to be the one
seed because they realize what's ahead of them if they
stay at the two spot where they are right now
in order to win a championship, that their next three
games after the same m game are gonna be to

(01:36:27):
beat number four Georgia, number three Clemson, who's the reigning champs,
and number one Ohio State. That's a tougher path than
anybody would have to win a title. So, uh, look,
I think they're up for the challenge. I don't think
they're going to back down, but certainly it would be
an easier path to have the one seed as opposed
to be in the two and having to face Clemson
in the semis, you know, and thinking about that because

(01:36:48):
the big thing that kind of separates the great team
from the champions in the playoff rount are coaching. How
the LSU fans feel about Adie at Geron Uh coaching. Yes,
some of the top coaches in a playoff format. It's amazing.
When you talked to coach Oh behind the scenes, you
really see how smart football smart he is. I mean

(01:37:10):
when you watch him breakdown film, he's you know, I
sat with him one day and he's going, yeah, you
see the two IYH safeties right here. You gotta recognize this,
And I'm going, why don't want people see this coach show?
People just see the guy with the gruff voys who
says gold tigers and all that, and they think he's
I don't know, they think he's domb or maybe not
football smart. But the guy has been coaching for years
and years under some of the best staffs ever. He
was on those Miami teams back in the late eighties

(01:37:31):
coach under Peach Pete Carroll at USC. So the guy
really knows his stuff, and its assembled a tremendous coaching
staff and a lot of people. Forget Hey, Dabo Sweeney
was an interim coach to who ended up getting a
full time gig. And you talk to some people over
there at Clemson and you find out Dabble is kind
of a CEO himself over there, kind of overseeing and
and having some good coordinators under him. And that's what

(01:37:52):
Coacho has assembled at l s U. So if anybody
thinks that he might get out coached by Ryan Day
or Dabo Sweeney in the playoffs, I would I would
ask them to think again, because coach Oh is one
of the smartest coaches out there. And the ability for
them to change and now do what they're doing on
offense when so many coaches would want to stick to
what they've done or who they are to be, they
have the willingness to be like, all right, let's have

(01:38:12):
Joe Brady come in and do his thing. Um, yeah,
that that says a lot. Let's wrap up with this
Chris Gordy joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Falcons
came to New Orleans, Uh, just a few weeks ago,
end up taking out this Saints. Maybe in the game
the Saints were overlooking or just weren't feeling. What do
we get tonight when the teams meet in Atlanta. Yeah,
I think they needed that wake up call. And we

(01:38:33):
see this every year. The Saints have going a five six,
seven game win streak and then they have a game
where they just kind of lay it, you know, lay
an egg. They did that last year in the Dallas game,
you remember, and this year it was the Falcons game
where they just came out flat. I mean they Falcons
came out as the hunger team, sack Drewbery six times,
they didn't score touchdown for the first time and forever

(01:38:53):
in the Super Home. So I think we're gonna see
a hungry football team tonight. And look, they played with
fire lab sweek against Carolina, but we're able to get
out with the phield goal wins. So I would not
be surprised if they come out on a mission tonight,
put the Falcons away early and run away with this one.
Find them on Twitter at Chris Gordy here on when
you're in New Orleans ten a m. No. Noon on

(01:39:14):
Sports twelve eighty hosting weekdays there. Hey, you got a
lot to talk about it, and maybe you'll be talking
about the Pelicans Lakers game last night as well. Oh
so close for the Pals, but just couldn't get it done.
It should be a fun a few months for you
down in New Orleans. We appreciate it, Chris. They'll be booing,
Anthony Davis. All right, we'll do it on another holiday.

(01:39:34):
How about that, Thanks Chris. Chris Gordy again at Sports
twelve eighty in New Orleans. It's it's funny when you
look at Bucky the history of l s U. When
they win their national championship under Nick Saban, national championship
game is in New Orleans. When they win it under
Les Miles, when they beat Ohio, state championship game is

(01:39:58):
in New Orleans. When they and they face Alabama in
the rematch for the national championship game, the title game
is in New Orleans. Guess where the College Football Left
Championship game is this year? In New Orleans. Yes, there
it is. So if the ls you can get to
that game, they will have a decided home field advantage
for the National Championship if they can get that far.

(01:40:22):
Funny how those things work out. So there you go.
You've got that stat and you've got my Super Bowl
stat with the Patriots and Miami to go with. Be
sure to catch the live edition of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio Appuck You
when you we usually team up together. It's not on

(01:40:42):
a consistent basis, but it's, you know, time and again
we get together and there is a tradition of of
a game that we like to play. And I've kind
of decided this this game will be retired. Uh when
the calendar turns to okay, this this, this is gonna
be retired. Yes, you know what. You know what I'm

(01:41:05):
talking about. Don't believe. I don't believe you can retire
because the game will be The game will be done.
Because the game is called Brooks and Done, and it
wasn't We've done this for about a year and a half.
Bucky didn't realize that the group was named Brooks and Done.
It's the only reason we play this song. Bucky Brooks
will tell us who is done in the NFL with Boot,

(01:41:27):
Scoot and boogie behind us songs about three and a
half minutes, maybe Max, So I better get to some
of the scenarios. Bucky's gonna tell us if their season
is done or not, or maybe even more than that. Alright,
the Chicago Bears gonna win today and proved the six
and six in the NFL they are done. There's gonna
be no playoff for the Chicago Bears. All right, there's

(01:41:51):
six and six the Rams we talked about a little
while earlier. They are six and five. The Rams done
in team. That's John Ramos's team. Don't don't really Thanksgiving,
That's that's that's tough to hear. That's that's very well
for John. I mean, brought a Thanksgiving meal. You've had
three helpings of the vegetable stuff at least game help

(01:42:15):
full of food. Yeah, one is done. What about the
five and six Panthers? I mean, if we're killing the
Bears and Rams, we might as well kill the Panthers, right, Yeah,
they put a Saints by the way, you can clinch
the division this week. That's already, yes, already, And the
Philadelphia Eagles. They're five and six behind the Dallas Cowboys
in the standings. By the way, Stephen Housa just missed

(01:42:37):
a field goal that would have given the Bills the lead.
So the Cowboys, you have the turnover, but getting no points.
No point. Are the Eagles done at five and six? Yes?
Oh really not? But but they could make the playoffs?
Or do you think Dallas is gonna think the Dallas
and I don't believe to fill the because A're gonna
make the playoffs, all right. I don't know they have
an easy schedule, but I believe they're done. Now things

(01:42:57):
are a little bit more, I don't know, conflicting, confusing.
In the a f C. The Jets are four and seven.
By a second, you can't done them that soon. They've
got They've got the Bengals and the Dolphins in their
next two weeks. Then I have the Ravens, Steelers and Bills.
There are only two games out of the wild card picture.

(01:43:18):
But at four and seven they're done. You say, so
you think you can get the ninety seven. I'm just
saying I just don't know if I want to put
a fork and I'm just yeah, I have five games left.
They have to get the nine and seven to get
into the playoffs. There's two automatic table, two automatic wins,
Dos and Dolphins. Yeah, so you feel good about the
Ravens Bills not necessarily. Sounds like you two want to

(01:43:39):
be done, but you want to be nice. I just
I'm putting them in the fridge. Maybe we'll we'll throw
them away later. What about? What about? What about the
Cleveland Browns at five and six? No, they're not done.
They're still alive, very much alive, very much, very much alive.
All right, they found a winning formula. I'm curious if
these six and five teams are more alive then the

(01:44:00):
Cleveland Browns Pittsburgh Steelers six and five. Dock Hodges now
the starting quarterback for Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, I think this is
Mike Tomlins's best coaching job, but I think he's going
to result in a playoff. Apses. Why did it take
so long for people to realize that Mason Rudolph stinks?
I mean, you know, I don't know, like he just
kinda slid under the radar, But then we got a

(01:44:23):
stance to watch him in back to back big games
and he was bad. Yeah, even before the Miles Garrett situation.
He's bad through four interceptions that game. And yeah, the
very very difficult And I thought Devil and Hodges did
find Chargers game. They ended up duck Duck Hodges. Yeah, alright.
What about another six and five team, the Oakland Raiders,
your team the well not your team, but you would

(01:44:45):
like to say the radar, I mean, get excited. You
even sound you sound like you want to jump on
board that you want to wear block. I come on,
old Seahawks Arrival. It's still any of the a f
C West, it is still uh everybody tech mobile. You
would playing Marcus. You know what I would say. I
think that the Raiders, of all these, of all these

(01:45:07):
potential wild card teams, of getting the last spot could
give the Patriots. The Raiders could get game. You can't
stop anybody. Hey, Josh Jacobs, I like them running the ball.
But no, I'm not saying they beat that. I'm just
saying matching up wise, I don't know if they get in.
Because there's a team, there's a team in the ANFC

(01:45:29):
South that I think it's better than. Okay, what about
the Tennessee Titans team that's the team. They are not
done that's the teams that I would that I would
take to the bank and say they can get to
the playoffs. I don't even know what the schedule looks like.
I just know that Ryan Tannehill is playing great, Derrick
Henry is running the ball will and their defense is

(01:45:49):
really really playing well. They are a team that they
could backdoor into the tournament and they could be a
very very very tough out. Colts, Raiders, Texans, Saints, and
Texans again. The Titans ledger. They controlled their own destiny. Alright,
one more six and five squad? The Indianapolis Colts. Are
they done or they still hope for the cold They
still hope for the Coals. I won't say they're done.

(01:46:10):
They still hope for the Coals. Bad news for them.
T Y Hilton had a setback. He is not going
to play in Week thirteen. Alright, final one, final one.
That's gonna end on a player. They got the win today.
He threw three touchdowns in the victory. But as Mitchell
Trubisky's time after this season done for the Chicago Bears, No,
it's not done. Because the GM loves him and loving

(01:46:31):
us can never see. That's why he will continue to
be the starting quarterback in Chicago for the next year.
Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure. Are you positive?
Mitchell Trubisky is not done? That's what you're saying, alright,
Bears fans. You heard it there first, Brooks and Done
on this Thanksgiving edition. By the way, we heard that
song twice. It went by so fast. I don't even

(01:46:53):
know if you realize that John Ramos the main mixer.
They're turning things around. There was Brooks and On again.
We're gonna retire it. We're gonna come up with something
new in But if we get together again in that
at leaves at least gives me leeway to bring that
wonderful segment back again. Get Bucky on Twitter at Bucky Brooks.

has a big frown on his face we'll talk about
that next year. On Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to

(01:47:58):
just hanging out with me, hanging out with Joe. This
knocks as you do every Saturday on Gosh. This weekend's
Saturday should be fun for you. Rivalry games so much
setting up. I got Ohio State, Michigan Early, got the
Iron Bowl, Auburn and Alabama. Yeah, it should be. It
should be a good time. You can hear them four
o'clock Eastern time, one o'clock Pacific on Saturdays here on

(01:48:18):
Fox Sports Radio. Why don't let you know what what's
happening in that Cowboys Bills Game seven, All tie between
the two teams at the two minute warning. The Cowboys
scored early on a touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to
Jason Witten, then a couple of punts and then an
interception as Dak Prescott was picked off by UH defensive
tackles starltt tu Lay and then Dak Prescott sacked and fumbled,

(01:48:40):
turning it over again. They dodged the first bullet as
Steven Housh missed a field goal attempt for Buffalo. But
now the Bills have the ball in Cowboys territory at
the two minute warning. And so while things started out
great and had Jerry Jones clapping in the press box Bucky,
now you're starting to wonder. Now it's the conversation maybe
have backed the turning ack of all. If Dak Prescott's

(01:49:01):
gonna throw these interceptions or he's not gonna hold on
to the football, how can you pay him thirty six
million dollars? Those are the conversations that may be coming up, which,
by the way, it could be fine for Jason Garrett
because then nobody's talking about his job status this week.
I'm sure he likes that because it does kind of
take the attention off of him and put it back
on the quarterback, which has been on the quarterback for
most of the year only of late hasn't been on

(01:49:23):
Jason Garrett. I'm sure he would like to win so
he could take the conversation off of both of those. Again,
I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of Jerry
Jones because he waited for any He wouldn't move on
from Jason Garrett even after their success, and now that
that window is closed and he's gonna have to pay
everybody and they didn't win a title. Now it's Jason
Garrett's fault. I just don't know what's gone different for

(01:49:44):
Jason Garrett and being Jason Garrett. Jerry Jones is the
one that kept him. That's when you have the power
to put the guy in the position to do his work,
and that goes on you, and I think he goes
on Jerry Jones shoulders. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer. Yeah,
I know you don't necessarily agree. You know that we
gotta get the David Gascon has got some headlines for us,

(01:50:05):
don't you, Dave. David Gascon joining us in joining us
hanging out on this Thanksgiving day? All right, Happy Thanksgiving? Dave?
Oh okay, that was in the middle of typics of it.
That's all. No, you're also in the middle of watching

(01:50:26):
Devin Singletary catching touchdown pass on a little end around.
So that was the best quarterback sneak I've ever seen
in my entire life. Bubbled snap, get stopped, pushed forward
three yards, first down and Singletary and in the end
zone boom, there you got it. So I'm here, guys, alright, right,

(01:50:46):
what else do we got going on in the six
van day? It's not a It's not a dead day
in sports by any means, No, not at all. We'll
start off of the National Football League real quick. Off
the field, Steelers James Conner. He was back at practice today.
He's been banged up throughout this season. Juju Smith Schuster
not because of a concussion. For Pittsburgh, Man, I'll tell
you I won't know. I won't because it's about my

(01:51:07):
fantasy team. Remember that's right. Oh, and House, you just
missed an extra point, so it's not seven oh man. Oh,
that's that's tough. The fact is that if the Steelers
get it done with what they've got, you said, Mike
Tomlin has done his best coaching job. That defense comes

(01:51:30):
up next year. If they have all the pieces and
Ben Roethlisberger is healthy. That defense has come around. Look out.
But if I'm the Steelers, I'm looking more at next year.
Then even if you get into is Bucky Legs to
call at the tournament, You're not gonna do anything stuff.
Defens is playing well, but obviously I don't have to
have enough firepower. This is not one of the things

(01:51:50):
I was gonna talking about today. But since you guys
are together today, to the Cincinnati Bengals pull off this
imperfect season. They sit at oh and eleven, but they
get the Jets at home on Sunday. Shut up, John, Yeah,
here's the thing I think that I think it was
the first time all season. This past week we've heard
about Zack Taylor maybe losing his job after one season,

(01:52:12):
and I think that that's the reason that Andy Dalton
is now back as the starting quarterback. You could have
had the excuse of this is a building, you know,
this is this is in the process of being built.
We didn't never first round pick, We lost him due
to injury, lost a j green in the preseason. But
now all of a sudden, Zack Taylor is wondering if
he's going to be even around for year number two.
So then you go back to Andy Dalton try to

(01:52:33):
win a couple of football games. I truly do not
look at stats. Guys, Um Bucky, do you agree with that?
Do you think that Zack Taylor is feeling the heat
that he Yes, they're awful. It's terrible, terrible. I will
say this, there are Bengal games on Sunday ticket that
I'm gonna sure what jersey they're wearing because they just

(01:52:54):
never go to the game. I'm not sure if it's
the black of the orange of the all whites. Did
you like the Rams uniform coming? Loved it? Yeahs are
going neon green tops with their navy pants. Got another turnover?
That's three. Now there's a fly bell on the carpet.
See who this is on? Guys, Getting away from this

(01:53:16):
game real quick. Titans and Colts this weekend as well.
In Week thirteen, t Y Hilton is a no go.
He is out for Indie. Oh and the penalty was
against the Bills. That's good news for Bucky's Ryan Tannehill
let Tennessee Titans. So they ruled Marlon Mack out again,
So it'll be a heavyhosts of Jonathan Williams Jonathan he's
playing well. Yeah, he's playing well. For that, I guess

(01:53:37):
think they make the playoffs Tennessee. Yeah, I'm gonna I'll
cast the I'll say no, no, it's not a joke.
But is there ever a game that is more likely
to finish than Titans Colts this weekend? It's a good game,
but at least there'll be some points. Dah, that's true.

(01:53:59):
And I'm talking on one minitary missed extra point and
then a converted two point conversion by the Colts. That's
how they would get those points. Guys, college basketball scene,
Maryland b Temple, But that's not the headliner in Michigan
perfect at six and oh this season is they hammered,
They embarrassed, They ridicule the North Carolina tar Heels today

(01:54:22):
and from an actual audience they got beat seventy six five.
What say, you man just talked to me in March.
We're talking to even now. I even I wore the
Carolina sweatshirts. Blamed it on me. Yes, this thing, by
the way, I'm about to have No, I bought this

(01:54:43):
in two thousand one. Yeah, so the twenty year anniversary,
when when comes around, I'm gonna make a specific match
for the sweatshirt and put it on and say, I've
had this sweatshirt for twenty plus years. Do you guys
watch a lot of college basketball this early in the scene,
And I watched the teams that are the schools that

(01:55:03):
I care about or the school that I care about.
So that's like, that's about it. I'll catch a game
here and there. But you know, the NBA is taken
over so much that when there's an NBA game on,
you kind of have to watch it. Fair enough, guys,
that's what we have. Jack Prescott just got sat the
press and then the Buffalo Bills went and played their

(01:55:23):
saxophone on the sideline. There there are a saxophone sack.
We're trying to convince Bucky to do that with his
Granada Hills Charter High School teams. But it was it
was not that's not playing saxophone chains and and and
have a shout like little little pimp staffs and all

(01:55:45):
kinds of others. Have three time outs and they're just
letting the clock run. And I know you'd be on
it back, but there's no way the Bills would do anything.
If you they got a first down. We'll tell you
how they did on the other side. He's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Dan Buyer. This is the Dug Gottlieb Show on
Fox Sports Radio. How does it play out in Atlanta tonight?
We'll tell you next. Fox Sports Radio has the best

Yeah special our extra hour of the Duck Colleagues show

maybe are used to hearing straight out of Vegas. Don't worry.
You're gonna get your pill. Bernie Fratto's gonna join us
in twenty minutes. Really looking ahead to a big weekend

(01:56:27):
in college football. By the way, in southern California, it
is pouring rain right now. It is just pouring outside.
I know in parts of the Upper Midwest, a snowstorm
hitting that area. In New York City, the Macy's Day
Parade was able to take place and get underway, but
they're gonna be dealing with some weather. Weather everywhere, not
dealing with weather in Dallas though, playing indoors at a

(01:56:50):
T and T Stadium, and the Cowboys yeah, just missed
a field goal, Bucky when he gets down to coaching decisions.
The Dallas Cowboys let some time run off the clock.
They go into have time with a time out in
their pocket, and they go in, well they left there
was there was a point at midfield where I understand
that you want to move the ball down field and

(01:57:13):
it's a third down and you don't want to give
the ball back to the Bills, but only on a turnover,
Like if you punt it back Buffalo, who has the
lead at the time, wouldn't be like but I'm pretty sure.
I'm pretty sure you would have to guess. They decided
to let the clock run and not call a time out,
which costs them about ten seconds. They were happy to

(01:57:36):
settle for three and then you go for the attempt
in Maha ends up missing it. Some say it may
have been deflected at the line. Point is is it's
no good. So while the Bills missed an extra point,
they have them only lead by six. Cowboys miss a
field goal that didn't pull them within three. It remains
a thirteen and seven Buffalo lead. This is I mean, heck,
we talk about Dallas not beating teams that are better

(01:57:57):
than them. I think that you know a week ago
said you said it even on this show, and others
have said it as well. Dallas was the more talented
team when you go up in this matchup, there are
more talented team at Buffalo. Buffalo does though, have a
better record than they are, but now you're down by six.
This is the Cowboys narrative, continuing and continuing and then
maybe making the same mistakes that we've seen throughout this season. Well,

(01:58:20):
what we talked about coming into this game, the Buffalo
Bills were going to test the Cowboys because they are
fundamentally sound team who's a world coach team, and we've
seen that in display. They don't have big mess ups.
They make you beat them, which um sometimes is tough
because they don't really turn the ball over. They do
a good job avoiding the penalties. Um, they keep the

(01:58:41):
ball in front of you, in front of the defense,
and so they make you drive the ball down to feel.
And what we're seeing is Dallas is not detailed enough
to be able to do it. And so the challenge
will be in the second half, can the dab Dallas
Cowboys play a clean football game that gives them an
opportunity to beat a team that is going to be
there into the very end. These spotlight games for Dallas

(01:59:04):
just too. I mean, Dallas is always in the spotlight,
but when you have the entire country getting the Patriots
and Cowboys like it did last week on Fox, this
game here on CBS, everybody is every everybody's watching football.
The highest rated football games that you are going to
get in the regular season usually are these Thanksgiving Day games.
It's the only ones that are on, so everybody's watching.

(01:59:24):
And when you hear the narrative, and maybe you're somebody
that that hasn't watched every Cowboys game but you've watched some,
when you hear or see the things that you have
been hearing about this team, it's gotta be It's imagine
what it's like to be a Cowboys fan and have
to deal with this now. There's zero sympathy. Cowboys fans
have had a good for years. It's just not the
last twenty years or so. But yeah, it's tough because

(01:59:47):
you were watching it play out. Two big time games
back to back weeks. We've seen the Dallas Cowboys struggle
offensively because of turnovers, penalties, uh, inconsistent play and then
on defense, they just haven't been able to con tame
the Buffalo Bills in a way in which you thought
they would be able to do so. And so look,
it highlights a few different issues. Whatever your issues are.

(02:00:08):
If you have an issue with Dak Prescott, the way
he has played today kind of brings out your biggest fears.
If you have an issue with Jason Garrett and the
way that he coaches, the way that they perform brings out,
uh those fears. And so the Dallas coutboys have a
lot of issues that they're having to battle with and
fight through. And so we will see if they're able
to put all of that to the side and put

(02:00:28):
together a great effort in the second half. Why is
it that certain NFL teams just don't understand how to
use their time outs in the clock? And because of
the incidents that I just talked about. This wasn't the
first thing there, I know, but see, the only thing
that's tricky about that instance, Um, I think the Buffalo
Bills get the ball coming out of half. And so
you hear people talk about the middle eight. The middle

(02:00:49):
of the most important eight minutesine football is the last
four minutes of the first half, in the first four
minutes of the second half, and what you don't want
to do is if the Buffalo Bills get the ball
coming out of half, you don't want to give them
the ball back with an opportunity to score a last
minute field goal, to touchdown before the half and then
get the kick. And so the challenge that the Cowboys

(02:01:10):
had right then is can we score points while also
leaving no time on the clock because we don't want
to give the ball backs to the buf And see,
that's where I think it's the it's the failed reasoning
or the failed thinking goes back to Super Bowl forty
nine when the Seahawks through the interception at the one
yard line. It's the play that we all remember, but
we also remember Bill Belichick not calling a time out.

(02:01:32):
And I know he's explained that there was a reason
why he didn't, but honestly, it didn't make sense for
them to not call timeouts. I mean honestly, it didn't
unless they thought they were going to stop the Seahawks
that we're rolling the Seahawks at the time, have one
time out, and you have Pete Carroll sitting there saying, okay, well,
how can I maximize to make sure we get four plays?
And then when we make sure we get four spots
at the end, and all of a sudden, you end

(02:01:52):
up throwing it on second down because you only have
one time out and you think that you can keep
the defense guessing. Got all these scenarios. In the scenario
that Cowboys are just facing, there's forty seconds left in
the first half. You are at maybe your own forty
or forty five yard line. Yeah, it's a third down,
but again, the personnel that you're facing is Josh Allen
and the Bills. They scored thirteen points there. Just don't

(02:02:16):
want to disrespect them and that like they can't move
the ball down to field. But but if you punted
back with him, if you call a time out, don't
convert on the third down and punt it back, you've
given it back to them with thirty seconds, likely somewhere
around the twenty yard line, and they have a six
point lead, the last thing Buffalo would want to do.
But we don't know that though, But we can't. We

(02:02:38):
can't coach knowing how they're going to approach it if
we give them the ball back. Because the worst thing
that happened call the time out didn't In completion, we
haven't run any time. Say we kicked the ball back
and they have thirty seconds left, and depending on how
many time I was they had, they had one time
out left. They still can run a two minute drill
and get the ball in a reasonable distance to be
able to kick a field goal. One of the things

(02:02:59):
that you try not dude, you're trying not to beat yourself.
I I just for for a team that needs to win.
They just played for three points, and it's okay to
play for three points, it's okay you don't play for
a touchdown and all of it. And they missed it. Like,
but we can't let the results dictate the way that
our strategy was. We're great in the strategy, not necessarily
the results. No, it didn't work out, but in terms

(02:03:22):
of playing it the right way, they got a reasonable
kick at a field goal and didn't leave any time
for the Buffalo. Yeah, they also could have maybe had
a reasonable shot in a touchdown, but they never ended
up going for it as well. Because so we think
that Buffalo will be like, hey, dells, you know what
we're gonna do. We're gonna let you have open sets
at the end zone because we know that you want

(02:03:44):
to take a set of is, so we're gonna give
you that. Buffalo is also playing to concede. Hey we'll
let you have the field goal. That's why they're playing
so soft. I I just listen, if you want to
hand the ball over to Josh Allen. And I'm not
trying to knock Josh Allen. The point is is, I
just don't think it's as as threatening as someone else.
And considering the situation where the Buffalo Bills, who would

(02:04:05):
have the lead, and as you mentioned, those four minutes
to come out, Buffalo is not gonna want to give
the ball back to Dallas on a turnover, so they're
not gonna go like, hey, we get the ball the
start of the second half. Also, but also remember this
because you're saying, oh, worst case taking funny, but last
week they had a punt block, Yes they did. And
special teams is coaching, right, So so when it when

(02:04:27):
it comes to all of those things, all of those
things kind of factor into it. I don't want to
put my special teams out there. We're struggling in the
punt game before, like we want to take this all
the way down where it is either we get three
or No. One scores, and so they took it down.
They missed a field goal, which was unfortunate for the Cowboys,
But in terms of playing it out, you want to
play it out where you don't give the Buffalo Bills

(02:04:48):
another opportunity to score. I I get what you're saying,
like I understand, and I just think that the scenarios
changed with who's in each role. And I think the
scenarios changed with where you are as a team and
where you are on the on the on the scoreboard,
where you are in the standings. I think all of
that just ends up going into play and to see
the Cowboys just miss mishandle it and to see the

(02:05:12):
history and they mishandled it. I'm saying they didn't execute,
meaning the guy I didn't knock it down because they
get the field That was a successful drive based on
a two minute situation. Now they didn't execute it. But
I can't say from a philosophical standpoint that Jason Garret
should be taking a task for Look, the ball got
down to the twenty to twenty two yard line. I mean,

(02:05:34):
that's a reasonable two minute drive at the end of
the thing to put them in a situation where they
could get it. How do you This is not a
part of my argument, but it's gonna branch off to
something else. How do you look at Do you look
at how teams used timeouts? For me, I look at
three first half time outs as the opportunity for the
offense to call a time out if something doesn't look right.

(02:05:56):
I don't expect a team to have all three of
their time outs with two minutes left to go in
the first half to run a two minute drill. However,
I expect a team, or look at a team in
the second half, to value those time outs with to
to protect those time outs a little bit more than
you would in the first thirty minutes. There's there's reasons
why you know, certain teams end up having time outs

(02:06:18):
at the end of games. They don't. They aren't left
with one time out with two thirty left. Do you
view how teams use time outs? Do you judge them
or analyze that? Is there any way that you look
at time outs? Because I do. I look at how
teams play out and have them, And I'm just saying
that the Cowboys, just I know they go into the
first half with the time out in their pocket. It's
not the worst thing in the world, but if they

(02:06:39):
could have used it in a certain way, it would
have benefited them. Do you analyze how they used time outs?
I mean, I think I think in the first half,
the way you call it a game is a little
different than the way you do it in the second
half when it comes to time outse. I think in
the first half, you want to make sure that you
avoid the major blunders, if you have personnel issues, if
there's a play that you want all of those, you
would like to leave yourself, um a time out or

(02:07:01):
two for two minute drill. Uh. The two minute warning
is also um an additional time out. And then the
way that you can kind of use the sideline and
those things also matter. But I don't necessarily judged him
in the first half in terms of how if they
took any timeouse home with him, if they have any
in their pocket. I think more so it's just how
does he manage the game? How does he play it out?

(02:07:23):
Did he put himself in a position to be able
to score points? Because all points matter, and the thing
that you're really trying to avoid is you don't want
to do anything in the first half to prevent you
from winning the game in the second half. And I
think that's really what Jason Garrett was trying to do
at the end of the first half. He's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Dan Buyer. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show, a
special lecture hour here on this Thanksgiving Day. A Happy

(02:07:45):
Thanksgiving to you and yours. Thanksgiving to uh, Happy Thanksgiving
to the those that are close, the family and friends
with John Ramos vincing close and David Gascottore working with
us on this Thanksgiving Day. And happy Thanksgiving to you
and yours. Bucky. If you're out there traveling, whether it
be in harsh winter weather, maybe rain, just be safe
and uh stick around. We got you covered on Fox

(02:08:05):
Sports Radio. That's what we do. You got something to say. No, No,
I did not did not. I didn't know what we're doing.
I heard that, Mike. That's that's why I thought. I
was just making sure. I thought you were gonna say
a happy Thanksgiving to those out there, I mean everyone,
everyone should know. I'm very excited and thankful for all
the listeners and for you and crew behind the Glass
and David Gascon. We just hate himself. I'm thankful for everybody,

(02:08:29):
like everyone that's around it. You're like, you guys make
my daylight if I like having these conversations with you
about timeoutse I didn't know you such a time out
um afficionado. Well, I have to be very judicious about
the way that we talk and use our time out.
I just think using a time out at ten minutes
left in the third quarter is much more of a

(02:08:51):
you know, it's it's difficult for a team to take
that because you're not lined up correctly as it would
be in the first half. Because of what those timeouts
could mean at the end of the game. I think
that's I think it's a big deal. Cowboys. You know
what they can do. They can snack on their time
out since they took it to them to the locker
room at halftime. Get Bucky on Twitter at Bucky Brooks.
I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox. Coming up next, it's

(02:09:13):
a big weekend in college football and there could be
a big upset on the horizon. We'll talk about that
next year on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch
the live edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at
three pm Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio app. It is the Doug Gottlive
Show Thanksgiving Day edition in an extra hour. He's Bucky Brooks.

(02:09:36):
I'm Dan Buyer, Bucky, NFL VET and of course of
the NFL Network, me of just Fox Sports Radio. Glad
to have you with this on this Thanksgiving Day. Joining
us now. You can hear him on Fox Sports Radio
and straight out of Vegas Saturday nights at eleven o'clock
specific time right here on fs ARE. Yeah, usually you're
hearing straight out of Vegas at this time. So let's

(02:09:56):
get a little taste of Vegas with our good buddy
Bernie Frattle. Hey Bernie, Happy thanks Liiving. How are you
every Thanksgiving? To you guys, We've got football, We've got turkey.
Doesn't get me better, man, No it doesn't. And we
know from your time that you spent in Detroit that
this is a I mean, this has got to be
a special kind of day just for you because you've
had experience with these Thanksgiving days in Motown right thousand percent, Dan,

(02:10:19):
I got up this morning, I saw j Glazer standing
on Brush Street just outside of ford Field. I covered
ten of those games, and it is a tradition. And
I heard you talk about that at the top of
the show. There's an interesting backstory. In nineteen thirty four,
the Lions were purchased by a guy named George Richards.
He was a marketing visionary. He'd taken a team from

(02:10:42):
Portsmouth Portsmouth, Ohio, the Portsmouth Smartans Spartans moved him to
Detroit and attendance is really bad, and so he had
this idea that he would play a game on Thanksgiving
Day and they would broadcast at on w j R
seven sixty where the games are even still broadcast today.
And he even convinced NBC Radio to broadcast the game

(02:11:03):
and it was syndicated on ninety four stations. The game
not only sold out, they turned away twenty five thousand people.
So the Thanksgiving tradition in Detroit was born. And fast
forward the nineteen sixty because Tex Shramman in the group
they're on the Dallas Cowboys, they were having a tennis
problems as well. They wanted their own Thanksgiving Day, so

(02:11:24):
starting in nineteen sixty six they had theirs as well.
The rest is history. Here we are watching it eight
years later. I love every minute of it too. Yeah,
it is unbelievable the thing that this has kind of
become the tradition. But what's different now is we don't
have a triple header, so we have the Atlanta Falcons
and the New Orleans Saints. Um. Normally we know that
the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys always play up. So

(02:11:46):
when you're looking at these games, how do you kind
of forecast these these triple headers, the game at the
end of the night, how does that normally play out? Well?
The third games good point. Because Lamar Hunt wanted a
game for Kansas City, he got one, but the NFL
recognized that they could benefit. How do you handicap a
game like these three? First of all, if you go

(02:12:07):
back to two thousand three, the favorites see of the
time win and cover, primarily because it's a short work
week and as you will know, Bucky, you lose the
travel day, you lose the day of preparation. This is
serious business, and the games played at a different time
than normal. The third game of the night has a
little bit different nuances. It's a revenge game for Newormals
because they lost at home. Is at ten point underdog

(02:12:29):
two or three weeks ago. I look at them to
take care of business tonight. But it's always a little
different dynamic handicapping the Thursday games because there are other
nuances involved aside from just the game itself. Bernie Frado
straight out of Vegas here on Fox Sports Radio Saturday night.
It's eleven o'clock Pacific time. You can hear him here
on fs are joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer sitting in for Doug.

(02:12:52):
Are you talking about Thanksgiving games in the pro game
in college? I'm curious because it's such a big rivalry weekend.
Just with a broad look, Bertie, how much do rivalries
play in making these lines that we would have this
week today? I mean, is it a big deal? Is
it not a deal at all? But considering it's a
huge rivalry weekend, how much is Vegas affected by it? Well,

(02:13:14):
when you take the biggest rivalry of them all, and
I covered fifteen, those two Michigan Ohio State. If you
go back to me, they have a thing here in
Vegas called the College Games of the Year, put off
by Golden Nugget. At that time, Michigan was projected as
a three and a half win favorite. So somebody's holding
a ticket with Michigan minus three and a half points.
Fast forward to now Ohio State's a nine point favorite.

(02:13:35):
Why does that happen? Because history has taken place when
you look at the rivalry and the anger that Ohiose
States brought this year, maybe the best team in college
football on both sides of the ball. You factor in
aside from the math and the poller ratings and the
various yards per play points, etcetera, you not have to
take into consideration the rivalry factor. And this weekend has

(02:13:55):
I think an added dimension. Guys, for the simple reason
that it's possible to the playoff picture could become clearer.
We've assisted odds in Las Vegas the probabilities just to
make the playoffs. Ohio States Clemson's eight percent l s
U E LSU will be in a three and a
half point favorite against Georgia on a neutral next week

(02:14:16):
in the SEC Championship game. Let's assume for purposes of
this conversation, Rolls three are gonna take care of business
that leaves Alabama Auburn the Iron Bowl. Now Auburn can't
wear anything this year but they can be like a
cockroach and a playtispaghetti fallen and messed up for other
teams like Alabama. But when you look at this game,
it's very nuanced, a tough game to handicap. Alabama currently

(02:14:40):
is a three and a half point favorite. Everybody forgets
so two is not playing. Two was worth about six
points to the line. And to have been playing today
Bama or playing Saturday, Bama would be about a nine
and a half point favorite. So where's the value? I
think it's on Alabama now. The home team has covered
six of the last seven meetings. Auburn at home getting

(02:15:01):
three and a half points, and I think you'd agree
with me. This is an interesting game in that if
you look at Auburn on film, that got the better
run defense, they've got a better rushing attack, they're at home,
they're getting three and a half points. However, you've got
the Nick Saban pedigree. I can't go against Alabama here,
but Auburn win this game. It opens the door for

(02:15:21):
teams like Oklahoma, possible Utah, possibly even Baylor in Minnesota
if the cards fell right. You know, it's funny because
you're talking about the four and I'm looking at a
game Clemson has taken on South Carolina. South Carolina knocked
off Georgia, but they haven't been anybody else of substance
when you when you try and forecast a game, the
South Carolina have any chance of knocking off Clemson and

(02:15:41):
really upsetting the college football playoff, I don't think they
have any chance to beat him. A right, Bucky, there
are twenty seven point home dog. But if you look
at the game last year, you've got a team to
put up thirty five points against Davilo's defense, and they're
slightly a better at home, and they did beat Georgia.
And let's not bury the lead. It's an in state
evol And I think those two kids are those two groups,

(02:16:03):
they know each other. They're South Carolina kids who probably
they should have been, uh you recruited by Clemson, and
if you go back t fift twenty years, the roles
are reversed. Clemson was the baby brother. So I do
actually think there's value there with Clemson, or excuse me,
with South Carolina and the points because you're getting so
many at home, but then the game's got to start

(02:16:23):
and you got a block and tackle and take care
of things like, for instance, I heard some people talking
today they think Michigan's got a chance to upset o
House State. I don't think so. But one of the
things I'm looking at in that game, aside from points,
breadth and its signed from analytics, is one is Michigan
gonna do about Chase Young. There's a problem. His kids
got seventeen sacks and nine games, and if you look
at Michigan's passing attack in the last three or four weeks,

(02:16:46):
Jay Patterson has been involved in a lot of five
seven step brops. It's gonna take time for those plays
to form. I think Chase Young has a big day
in the House. Date Wentz, big Bertie Freddo joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan
Buyer on this Thanksgiving Day. I don't know if you
can answer this question directly, but I take a look
at this Utah Colorado game, and as you mentioned, Utah

(02:17:08):
as a team right now obviously on the outside looking
into the playoff, but if things go well for them,
maybe they have a chance. That line is that they've
got Colorado playing Colorado this weekend and say twenty eight
point line four touchdown game does does the ability of
or maybe the need of Utah to win convincingly does
that play into making a line. I know it's kind

(02:17:29):
of a random question, but Utah needs to be impressive
over these next couple of weeks if they want to
be in the playoffs. This Vegas account for that. I
maybe Utah trying to score more points than they wouldn't
a normal game. Well, it's a very good question, and
style points never seem to hurt. Ask Urban Myron, Wisconsin
when you beat him fifty nine and nothing fourteen. But
to answer your question directly, Dan, when Lost Things creates

(02:17:52):
a line, it's never a predictor the any logical purpose
behind the betting line is to create equal action on
both sides, because that way the book makes money. They
charge a little thing called the vigor ish. So you
bet the dollar, tend to win a dollar you later
twenty eight points, and if you create equal action on
both sides, the book makes money. That's all they're trying
to do. They're not trying to predict the outcome. So

(02:18:14):
what will happen is oftentimes a line will open and
you'll see it move, for instance, to Detroit lines today
they open is a one point dog. A lot of
Beare money came in, so they moved the line to
two two and a half, three, three and a half.
They can't move again until it actually got the six
because of when they found out Blow was starting a
quarterback that created money coming in on the other side

(02:18:35):
of the book wouldn't be exposed and they minimize the rift.
So the creation of a line is more to you know,
get equal action as opposed to make a prediction. Having
said that, it does beho if you try to win big,
and I'll tell you why. Because if Auburn does beat
Alabama and l s U does beat Georgia, we believe
Utah is next in line at ten, they have a

(02:18:55):
shot to sneak in there. They would then have to
make sure they beat Oregon right in the Epactral Championship game.
But day with Garrett Garter consideration and the more impressively
are in that wing, the more the better chance they
would have. He's Bernie frett All listen to him Saturday
nights here on Fox Sports Radio eleven o'clock Pacific time
and find him on Twitter at Bernie frattoh and he

(02:19:16):
is in the camp of keeping Thanksgiving Day in Detroit, Dad,
And that's the only way it should be. Bernie. He
spent so much time there, he understands it. Happy Thanksgiving, Bernie.
We'll do it again soon. R Bernie Fratto, one of
the best that there is. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer.
It is Thanksgiving Day. The bills have I don't know,
just put the cowboys at arms length. Be sure to

(02:19:37):
catch the live edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays
at three pm Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. Guys who talk so
much food. Today, I was having a moment Steve or
I said, hey, I can hardly wait for Christmas because
Arnie Spaniard and his Vermont pancakes could be on the way.
The maple syrup man, he did so good last year,

(02:20:00):
at least his wife did. Anyway, Sure, John Ramos, how
is the maple syrup from Arnie Spaniard? If I could
just say right now it was the best ever? Has all? Right? There,
it is there. It is the thumbs up. Steve de
Seger giving the thumbs up as well. So Christmas is
right around the corner. It is actually because of the

(02:20:20):
late Thanksgiving, And I'll say this about the links the
late Thanksgiving. Usually Thanksgiving in the NFL falls on Week
twelve more times than not, it seems to be. But
because of the lateness, it fell on week thirteen. Our
trade deadline in our fantasy football league is week twelve.
Usually it's on thanks you know, the Thanksgiving week, not

(02:20:40):
this week. A couple of our owners got caught sleeping
last week and tried to make some deals this week. Yeah,
it didn't happen. Shorter window. You only got five game
style these games for me a little bit more. Usually
you have an extra week and an extra game. Yeah,
it doesn't. We're three and eight. There it is, thanks Yes,
that's yeah. It's been a rough year. It's been it's

(02:21:03):
been rough. Can you get enough? You can't. Yeah, there
is no path seemingly have you played it versus this
season now when there's when you're hopeless. You know, this
is what I do. I respect the league, so I
continue to play and it costs me in the end.
We don't give any you know, toilet bowl things. You
don't have to get a tattoo, you don't have to

(02:21:25):
stand you know, you know, speedo on the corner of
Subovan invntor none of that, None of that at all.
It's just it's just honor. But the league has been
together for twenty two years years. Yes are your last place? No, no, no,
I actually drafted Bucky Brooks in my fantasy league one
of our first years. We did it. No, I didn't,
I was I. That was a total I and the

(02:21:47):
Cowboys have just missed a field goal. Um bred Maher
misses another field goal. You know what, I think Brett
wants to get Jason Garth before we get into, uh,
the thing that you've always wanted to know about the
life of the NFL. We started the show with a pole,
who is the NFL m v P right now? And

(02:22:07):
David Blow leads of Lamar Jackson. That's what we've got.
We've got over one votes. David Blow leads at By
the way, it's kind of a joke. David Blow stood
up and performed well today in a loss for the Lions.
All right, Bucky, it's time to put you on the
hot seat. Here it is Confessions of an NFL player

(02:22:30):
and I I'll even expand this to Confessions of an
NFL scout because John Ramos, our technical producer, Vincent Close,
our executive producer David Gascon at the anchor desk. We
all probably have questions about what life is really like
in the NFL. None of us know, but you do.
So we ask you the questions that we've always wanted

(02:22:51):
to know. My my first question, let's say you're playing
a night game like the Saints and Falcons and it's
a it's a home game. Do you just go home
and crush out? I know for us here at Fox
Sports already, if you're working nights, takes me a little
while to wind down, may have to go home, watch
the TV. But are you Are you a guy that
just goes out like after the game and like in

(02:23:13):
bed it? You know? So if I'm playing for the
Saints of the Falcons after, yeah, I'll say you're a
Falcon player. Tonight games kicking off get done at about
eleven o'clock. I'm going I'm going I'm going out, but
I ain't going out like a light. I'm going to
the club, going out like it's the whole point buyer.
We're going out like we have a home game and

(02:23:33):
if we win, oh, we're definitely turning up like this
is it's it's a party party. This is what I
find so funny. They the NFL players complain so much
about Thursday night games. Yeah, they'll go out and party,
you know, like I still have to play, Like I mean,
I still have to live my life. Do the do
they do? They v I P booths help your back recover?

(02:23:56):
Is that what it is? I mean, I'm trying to
find I'm trying to find Amsseus in the club. All Right,
you guys got any questions? Ram It is Thanksgiving a
day when we eat lots of food. What's the food
like in the NFLO locker rooms? Like a post game,
isn't before the game? What are the guy's feast on
after the game? Done before? So it depends. So some
teams have a dinner after the game. When I played

(02:24:19):
in Kansas City, we would have dinner in the Arrowhead Lounge,
which was there's a little lounge at the top of
the stadium, and so we would go up there and eat.
They have a full spread. Uh. You know, if anyone
has been to Kansas City, you know, Kansas City is
all about the meats and the barbecue and all that stuff.
So we would have nice spots. I've played other spots
that you didn't necessarily have a spread laid out. They

(02:24:41):
would have kind of like a box lunch or something
like that. But then you and the family would go
to a nice spot and eat, and then after you eat,
you you send the family on and then oh, then
you go out hang out with the fellas. Yeah, to
a club like called Passions or something something something like that.
Sometimes dreamers, something with camaraderie were built it. We've been

(02:25:03):
a camaraderie. The closest teams play the best. You gotta
like you guys. All right, Vince Dave, you want to
get in on confessions of an NFL player? All right,
I got one. So you are kicker, turner, defensive player?
Do you like to hit? Guys? I assume the guy
who ever hit you the hardest where you were just

(02:25:25):
like that was a hit. So here, here's here. Here's
um So. The office coordinated for the Kansas City Chiefs
is Eric B. Enemy. Eric B Enemy basically made his
scratch in the league as a special team standout. I
remember one time playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, we were
playing the Cincinnati Bengals. He was a special team's demon
and somehow he scored it through and man, he got

(02:25:46):
a very clean, very clean lick on me right uprond
of my check. And you know, special teams, there's a
lot of chatter that goes on. So yeah, Eric b
enemy would be the one that I would claim because
it have you. Have you or anyone that you know,
ever been approached by someone in the in the dark

(02:26:09):
roll of the gambling side of things to influence a game? No, no, no,
I've never seen that. I've never. I've never maybe I
wasn't good enough to be an influencer, but they I've
never had anyone come around and offered me some some
funny handshakes and other things to entice me to maybe
shave a point or two off the final score. Anybody
you know? No, I don't know anybody like I wish
I knew. But no, I've never seen that. I mean teammates. No, no,

(02:26:31):
not not that I know of. No, like I mean
I wish Bucky. We're gonna need you to take this
to the house tonight. We need you to take it
to the No. I would. I wish I had something
that I could I could offer you. I don't have that.
What about player parking spots? Is there is there a
hierarchy or is it just first come, first serve Now

(02:26:53):
it depends like normally, like when I was in Buffalo,
like the Millionaires Club, like back then in the nineties
was Jim Kelly, Bruce Smith, Thurman, Thomas, Andre Reid, Darryll
Talley and some others, like they had their spots and
they let it be known, do not park in their
parking spots whatever that spots are. Normally, when it comes
to the NFL, it's all about the plane ride and

(02:27:15):
on the plane, people have their designated seats and the
vets like to sit in certain spots of the plane,
and as a young player, you need to quickly identify, oh,
I can't sit in those seats because if not, they
will rudely escorts you out of their seats. Interesting, is
there a shuttle for like practice players because they gotta
park two miles away from there's not a shuttle like

(02:27:39):
like it's pretty good, I think. I think the big
thing that you have understand, Dan Buyer, if you were
a rookie on our team, the one thing that you
have to have when we're getting on the plane, you
have to bring the chicken. You have to bring the
KFC or Popeye's Chicken. And I just want you to
know that if you get the order wrong, there have
been times where you may have a tough time getting
on the plane. Really like, you have to come. You

(02:28:01):
have to come with the bucket and don't be late.
Oh there it is confessions of an NFL player. Tell
you what if they love the five piece spicy combo
from Popeye's and the Tenders, they'd be in luck. Yes,
just remember their fifty three guys on the team. So
you need to make sure that you have enough for you.
Can I have the Can I have the two piece?

(02:28:23):
Uh tend? You may spicy? You may need to order
that in advance. O. Hey, if you get caught in
the line waiting for them to drop the tenders into
into grease? And what three hundred sides would you I'll
take Cajun fiesh He's Brooks and Josh Allen is in
the end zone. Ex Boy Cowboys fans aren't thankful for

(02:28:47):
their football team right now. The Bills are up twenty
two to seven. They make you know what, Stephen Housk
has missed enough kicks today. They should go for two
and go up three scores on Dallas to really put
that nail in the coffin. The Bills are taking it
to the Cowboys again seven during the end of the
third quarter. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer. This is
the Doug Gottlieb Show Special Extra Hour here on Fox

(02:29:09):
Sports Radio. Find Bucky on Twitter at Bucky Brooks. I'm
at Dan Buyer on Fox. I think I've teased it
about three times. We're finally gonna get into Saints Falcons
tonight in a big game for New Orleans for let's
just say home field advantage. We'll talk about that next
year on Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the
best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of
our shows at Fox sports Radio dot com and within

(02:29:32):
the I Heart Radio app search f s R to
listen live. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Dan Buyer. And what
a catch by Tavon Austin. The only problem was he
already had a foot out of bounds and then didn't
get the other two in, so he had three feet
out of bounds. It's now a third and ten for
the Cowboys, down sixteen to the Bills twenty three to
seven with about two minutes left. In the third quarter.

(02:29:53):
It was a very Cowboys esque sort of play, if
you will, but Dak Prescott was able to scramble on
third and ten and get a first down, so the
Cowboys keep their drive alive, but again down sixteen and
a matchup with the Buffalo Bills later on tonight, it's
the Saints and Falcons from Atlanta. Should be noted. I

(02:30:14):
don't know if it will make a difference on the field,
but the Falcons will be wearing their throwback nineties Jerry Glanville,
Andre Rise and Dion Sanders uniforms. Maybe maybe it's best
if I just say that Chris Miller uniforms. That would
maybe be the way where you really recognize them. The
two legit to quit Falcons uniforms and their end zones

(02:30:36):
will actually be like they were in the old Georgia Dome,
fully black with the old Falcons logo. So you've got
that with the Falcons trying to turn back the clock.
Although the only thing that's going right with the Falcons
this year is they beat the Saints just a couple
of weeks ago in New Orleans nine. Does it happen
again tonight in Atlanta? Bucky that the Falcons can surprise
the Saints again. Now, I think the Saints understanding they

(02:30:58):
conclains the division with the Wind, and I think they
come and give them their full attention. But this is
always a tough robbery. Is always um a series that
has a bunch of close games. I think would be
a closely contested game. I just think the Saints have
more firefarus. Yeah, this rivalry is one that has been
around for a while. They don't They've never really liked

(02:31:19):
each other. They were actually in the same division when
they were in the NFC West, when you have the
Rams and forty Niners there as well. So it's it's
been one of those rivalries that may not be on
the top of the NFL like Packers Bears. But the
Saints can't stand the Falcons, and the Falcons can't stand
the Saints, and you're gonna get that tonight. Saints about

(02:31:41):
a touchdown favored six six and a half pointers. I
think the last time that I saw Julio Jones and
status is in question the gametime decision. But DeVante Freeman
does return for Atlanta. Does that make a big difference? No,
I don't think it makes a significant gives them a
little more balanced. But I think this game is going
to be won by the Falcons defense. If they win,
candide slow down a Saints attack that people haven't been

(02:32:02):
able to slow down Michael Thomas and they definitely can't
stop Alvin Kamar. Can they somehow fake Drew Brees. I
just don't know if you're gonna be able to get
it done. Lettavias Murray is not mark Ingram, but he's
filled it nicely in that role for the Saints. Yeah,
he's been solid. He's been a solid number two running back.
He and Alvin Kamar have certainly split the load. They've
been productive tandem together. We'll see how it continues to

(02:32:24):
grow because they're gonna need this running game more as
they get down the stretch. And uh news just in
by the way, Julio Jones will not play tonight. He
is out against the Saints. Ruled out. That's according to
ESPNS Adam Schefter, So no Julio Jones for the Falcons toned.
In fact, it actually just maybe the inactives were announced
for the Falcons, so no Julio Jones. So the Falcons
will have to do it without their star receiver. Cowboys

(02:32:46):
facing a third and goal There at the Buffalo Bills
six yard line, down by sixteen, with about thirty seconds
left to go in the third quarter, a pass to
Michael Gallup in the end zone is caught and it
looks like he got both feet in. It is a
touchdown for Dallas. It will be reviewed, but this gives
the Cowboys some life heading into the fourth quarter. It

(02:33:07):
does give them some life. Imagine if they made the
field goal that end and a half. Imagine if they
used their time outs correctly and I'm a little closer,
and then the ball wouldn't have been tipped. A really
good one headed catch by Gallup who did not get
both feet in. Now here's the question. You're gonna have
a fourth and goal and you're down by sixteen, you

(02:33:29):
have a whole quarter to play. Kicked the field goal.
I agree with that. Trying to stend, stend the game
as long as you can. It'll be this shouldn't take
too long for them to review. But it was only yeah,
it was only one ft in. He tried, he got
his right foot in in the back corner of the
end zone, tried to get his left one down, but

(02:33:49):
that one was clearly out abound, so it will be
decision time for the Dallas Cowboys. Happy things giving to
to all of you. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Bucky and UH.
