Doug got Leap Show, Fox Sports Radio. Tired of me
yet good? I'm tired of you too, tired to you too,
Doug got Leave Show here on Fox Sports Radio. UM,
I got a blue horse shoe loves Annacott Steel, and

(00:49):
I feel like Aaron Donald is gonna beat me to it.
I'll share that with you. Upcoming UH straight in the
Vegas Is. Those guys are on a little VACA off today,
so we'll fill in with an extra hour the got
Live Show. If you're tired of my voice, I don't worry.
I'll have Pat forty joined me. You can hear the UH,
the longtime UH college football and bast basketball writer. I'm

(01:09):
gonna ask him if he thinks like we're seeing the
end of bowl games not because the brawl today between
Mississippi State and Tulls like mo Man now, but because
of like this opt out mania which has taken place
where you have Florida without sixteen dudes last night and
they get pummeled by Oklahoma. And now even if you
didn't want to opt out, do you want to play
with the with the kids, with the backups. It's funny

(01:32):
because you know, there's part of me that says, you're
Kyle Trask and you're going against Oklahoma, You're bringing the backups,
you're bringing the kids, and you're like, sweet, let's roll.
I can tell you that this is a really this
is a true story of what happened to me my
first year out of school. It was a winding path

(01:53):
to get there, but ultimately I landed in perm Russia.
Perm Russia and I played for were a team called
euro Great and we won the Russian Championship. When we
won the our Couple League the Northern European Basketball League
as well. We won every game except for one, and
the one game we lost I played, but it was
with all of the juniors from our junior squad and

(02:17):
maybe like one or two of the scrubby bench players.
Here's what happened. We we had a squad put together
to win the Russian championship. We had a couple of
we had several Russian players, we had a couple of
Lithuanian players who counted as Russian players. That this was,
you know, two thousand and two thousand one, so it
wasn't like it was during during a communist Russia. I'm
not that old, um, But in terms of counting against

(02:41):
the number of foreigners, we had the best Ukrainian player
in their country. We had three very good Lithuanians, um,
and we had several really good Russians from their national team.
And then I was playing. I played as American, and
we had Willie Burton, if you guys remember Willie Burton,
ninth pick of the draft, and guy had fifteen a game.
Guy was a bucket, just like a walking bucket. So

(03:03):
we won every game, every game in the Cup league,
in the Country league, and we came around to like, oh,
I'm gonna say end of April, and they gave us automatically.
We got advanced to the semifinals in the playoffs, and

(03:24):
so we had like three or two weeks off for
three three e see me three weeks off and then
if you took him. We had one last game against
Seska Moscow. It's csk A, that's the Red Army team
and they're usually the best team. Well, our management said, hey,
all you guys can go take a week at home.
Willie Burton got to go home to the States. Guess

(03:45):
who didn't get to go home? Your boy. So they said, hey,
you're gonna stay. You must have stayed and play with
with babies. I was like, what, you get to take
manage many shots as you want. So I was like, cool,
I got to take all these shots. The difference is
I got to play against you know, they had Rusty Rue,
they had they had a bit of a They still
had a good Andre Fatissa and played for the Trailblazers.

(04:05):
They still had a squad. Andre Cure Lincoln was a
young player on that team we played against. And you know,
the scoring is not what I did. And I had
to be a score and dominant player and I wasn't.
I struggled. We got beat badly and it was really frustrating.
And the lesson I thought to myself, as man, as
much as it feels great to be the guy, you

(04:26):
gotta know your own limitations and think I need guys
to pass to because that's who makes me who I am.
I can shoot more, but but I'm I'm just not
good enough to be a carry of the team. Give
you a twenty five a night, guy, that's as a score.
That's not who I ever am. There could be a
night where you hit a bunch of shots, but that's
not who you are. I saw Kyle Trash last night
and I thought to myself, boy, this guy, why would

(04:48):
you You almost would say like he should opt out
and not play, even though he didn't play well. It's
really hard to play well when you can't trust dropfensive linemen,
don't know if your wide receivers are gonna be where
they're supposed to be. They're all new and fresh. Mean
while Oklahomas played like it's a national championship game. So
I kind of think we're in this spot to where

(05:08):
And it's weird. We've gotten to this discussion where hey,
Bowl games don't matter. Okay, well Oklahoma lost two games,
you know, Texas and Iowa State, and yeah they played
for a Big twelve title, but that game matters. Why
why did it matter to them? It didn't matter to Florida,
Like if it's not about mattering. Once you lose two

(05:31):
or three games and you're not gonna play for a
league or a national championship, none of them actually matter,
not just the bowl games. But I think what happens
is to the guys that want to play, many of
them are left like, hey, I'm playing with inferior players.
I may get double teamed. I don't know what to do,
so I I the whole thing is fastin me. What

(05:55):
happens with these ancillary bowl games, which I know that
as fans, we like it because we can bet on them,
and teams coaches take lots of chances. The coaches love
them because they get extra practice and oh yeah, by
the way, half the teams go home with a win,
as opposed to when you're playing a playoff, everybody loses
except for one. And then there's teams that didn't get
in the playoffs, which means they probably lost their last

(06:16):
game as well. So I'm fascinating to see what happens
to bull season. I also think that this is a
week where Notre Dame's gotta win a game. I don't
think they'll beat Alabama, but they would shut everybody the
hell up. If they could just beat in Alabama because
tomorrow they get run off the field their nineteen and a
a half point favorites, then it it just reputations are

(06:41):
really really hard to change. And right now the reputation
of Notre Dame is they can't compete with the big boys.
Yes they beat Clemson, but Clemson and other quarterback and
a couple other guys, and when Clemson decided it was real,
the game wasn't competitive. Last week it wasn't competitive. Um.
This is the Doug Out Live Show on Fox Sports Radio.

(07:02):
If you first time you're listening to it, you can
always listen to it three or six Eastern twelve three
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, the I Heart Radio app,
or Fox Sports Radio dot com. You could also download
the podcast. We usually make picks on every Friday. I'll
only tell you this. This is my um blue Horse
Shoe loves Anna cot Steel. Did you John Ramos, did

(07:26):
you see what uh what the Rams are are putting out?
I told you about it earlier. Okay that John Wafford
can play, And I have a source within with within
the Rams that says like, look, dude, you know I
don't know what it will be like with with when
the lights come on the popcorns popping. But did you

(07:47):
see what Aaron Donald said? I did not see what
Aaron Donald said. There was this on Twitter. He put out,
well he didn't put it out, but somebody put it.
He put out a a an Aaron Donald quote about
about John Wahford. Okay, um, he said that. Basically, it
said Aaron Donald believes John Wafford can play at a
high level. That's that's all I need to hear. That's

(08:09):
all you need to hear. Oh Aaron Donald, I mean,
the guy's the best. Some people think the best player
in the NFL. I think he's the best player in
the end. I definitely don't definitely the most important, kay,
as he's definitely the best defensive player. Yes, okay, I
mean the problem is that his position doesn't affect the
game as much as the quarterback does. True, but it's

(08:29):
it's pretty close. It's pretty close. He alters a lot
of plays. If that. If I don't know if there's
something in the NBA college basketball that you can yeah,
of course protector. Okay, it doesn't they don't see it big,
but but it's something that that does affect the play
of the game. This is his quote. He's talking about
John Wafford. I've been a fan of his honestly, justin

(08:51):
his preparation. Watching him work is routines he goes through
every single day. You would think he was a starting
quarterback already. I believe it hard work pays off. I've
seen him work. I seen him during the bye week
when I'm walking to my car about to leave. He's
walking out with the helmet and shoulder pads holding a
football spinning in his hands. All right, a d see
you later. So he's got some swag. Dude can play.

(09:13):
And I talked to somebody who's uh fairly high ranking
in the organization, and there is a there is a belief.
There is a belief and what now could it all
be for? Not could it all be them huffing and
puffing out their chest. It could be, really could be.
But keep this in mind. The Rams, which Sean McVeigh,
have never lost the Cardinals, including three times they've played

(09:34):
against Cliff Kingsbury. They are playing at home when it
for whatever that's worth. Kyler is banged up, and let's
not act like the Cardinals have been world beaters, right,
They just lost to the Niners, who can't beat anybody
their winds of late, they had the miracle win in
the second half of the season. Their three wins are
the miracle win against the Bills, win against the Giants

(09:57):
who aren't good, and to win against the Eagles who
aren't good. I don't like I love the Rams this week.
That's that's my them. This week I said, I love
not like three point. If you can get three in
a hook, I'm in love. I'm in love. We're all

(10:18):
in the fight against COVID nineteen and Ford Motor companies
doing their part by manufacturing and donating a hundred million
masks to underserved communities, and Ford encourages everyone to join
the effort. Close to winning this fight and these next
weeks are crucial. Let's hold the line, continue to social
distance and wear masks and look out for one another
so we can get back to where we were together.
We can get it done. Let's finish strong. A message

(10:38):
from Ford Motor Company up coming next opt out Mania
for Bowl season, Pat fordy tells us can we ever
get back to the good old days of the bulls?
Are? Are Are they long gone? Find on next be sure
to catch the live edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show
weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app Doug Gotlip Show,

(10:59):
Fox or Trading Up. So if you're listening to the show,
you're probably wired a little different than normal human beings, right,
not because you're used to listening straight into Vegas, but
because you're a sports guy, and sports guys are sports fans, like, look,
we're the type of people that, uh, you don't go
to school when you're a kid with the first two
days of the n c A determined. But you're also

(11:20):
somebody who you look forward on Christmas Day. It's not
the presence, it's the NBA games, and the January one
was always bowl game, bowl game, bowl game, bowl game.
So tomorrow there's four bowl games too, that really the
two above boh blah blah, and the rest of the
national semifil So that's good. And in a crazy year
when you start two thousand twenty one, if you can

(11:41):
give me Notre Dame in Alabama, you're welcome, and then
clems into Ohio State, that's pretty awesome. Plus Dabbo is
like he's not walking back any of his comments about
where he voted Ohio State. All that is good, but
the rest of these bowl games, I mean, the the
opt out madness is crazy. Let's welcome in pat Ford
from Um from s I. He joined us here on

(12:03):
the Doug Otlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Pat I
watched Kyle Trask's struggle last night, and I'd love to
give credit to Oklahoma and as a big twelve alum,
like that's always great when they beat the SEC and
they almost hanging half for a hundred on them, But
I also know that you're going against sixteen backups. And

(12:23):
then I I mean like, look, but like the coaching
staff has to be like this is We're not really
that bad. We just were not putting our best foot forward.
Kyle Trash is like, look, I wanted to play, but man,
I'm playing with a bunch of scrubbies and a bunch
of young dudes. Like I've almost I almost feel like
we're past the point of no return where these these
ancillary bowl games UH kind of go the way of

(12:45):
the dodo. Uh. And I say that knowing that it's
going to combine with some form of playoff expansion. Am
I crazy to think that Oh no, No, I think
you're very smart to think that. I think both those
things go hand to hands. But you know, the more
the playoff has taken whole, the less the other bowl
games matter, the less players want to play in them.

(13:07):
And so if you want to put on bowl games
that are a decent product for the viewers, you know,
the players to have any incentive to be involved, and
you better probably expand the playoffs. And uh, you know,
I mean Florida had a good season and could have
had a chance to get in a top eight playoffs.
But when they didn't get in the top four, they're

(13:29):
out of there. But they won't they won't get in
the top but they wouldn't get in a top eight playoffs.
And if that's the other thing that that like, we
mean respectfully. Okay, So if you had if you expand
it to eight, which I think is probably the magic number,
I don't think you do sixteen. I think that would
be too many. Um you do you do eight? So
you award all five conference champions, right we okay with that? Yeah, okay,
so now you have the Pack twelve champion, which I

(13:52):
guess is Oregon. Okay, you have Oklahoma, You already have
the four that are in right, because you have SEC champion,
you have a c C champion, you got Big ten champion, okay,
and then you throw it you have Notre Dame there
is the first outlier, so that that would be six, right, six,
and then you're gonna you're probably gonna be forced to

(14:12):
take a if you're gonna expand you're gonna take a
group of five and then you Texas, A and M
and Cincinnati would the year seven and eight? Correct? Florida
still not in right now, you're but I think there
would be a little more understanding. I guess of well,
if we're not in the top eight, okay, fine, but

(14:33):
I mean the compost still has some cash and you're
playing champions. Some people would like to see Oklahoma actually
show up or I'm sorry, Florida show up for that game,
and they completely did not. So, you know, the system,
especially now you know there's been some talk this week
of and and you know kind of an interesting wrinkle

(14:54):
where the Bowls or somebody involved with them couldn't pay
some of these players to participate with the name, image
and likeness. You know, if that becomes to be then
you couldn't say that Kyle pitts, well, you know, here's
X number of thousand dollars would you like to play?
And then he's at least got a decision to make
an he may still say no because you know, the
the pro decision there's millions of dollars, not thousands. But

(15:17):
you know, there are some potential remedies to this, but
it's it's it's a major problem I think as far
as where the Bulls are going, Yeah, I mean, the
interesting part is we we operate under this if the
games don't matter. But I mean the truth is that
once you've lost two or three games anyway, you're there's
so many teams where the games don't really matter in

(15:39):
terms of compete for national championship. I'm not sure I'm
has sold on that argument that that once that that
bull games don't matter when plenty of these teams have
been playing in games that don't matter for for the
for the last month and a half of the season. Yeah. No,
And look, I do think to the Florida fans that
games didn't matter, they're mad, they're mad today. And on
the on the flip side, the Oklahoma fans are get

(16:00):
they're thrilled they just beat down an SEC team and
they've laid the groundwork for a big one. And so
for the fan basis, these games absolutely matter. And you know,
sometimes it's very easy force programs to take the fans
for granted because they've shown to be suckers over the years.
You know, they'll they'll go to a nine thirty kickoff,

(16:21):
they'll go at eleven am kickoff, they'll tell us schedule
to kickoff six days in advance, and they'll still show up.
But sometimes you've got to actually cater to what they want.
And I think they would like to see their teams
performed well in showcase games and Bulls. Doug otlives show
here on Fox Sports Radio. I don't want to go
to grandiose and say biggest game in history, but I

(16:42):
cannot think of a game that matters more to Notre
Dame than than this one upcoming, even more than the
Clemson a SEC championship game. Just last time they faced Alabama,
it was yeah, I mean it was a joke. Right.
They haven't won a meaningful bowl game, you know, one
of the big your bull since ninety three, their nineteen.

(17:03):
This is a good team, a well coached team, They've
won double digit games the last four years, and they
did something they would never do before because the pandemic,
right they joined a conference for the year and they
won that conference. So I guess the question is, like,
how big do you think tomorrow's game against Alabamas. It's big,
There's no doubt about it. I mean, not biggest in history,

(17:23):
you know, probably biggest since I would say nineties, since
the Florida State game in ninety three. In the regular season,
I would say, but uh, from a bowl perspective, it's
it's really big. The problem is, I just don't see
them having any real chance to win unless things get crazy,
which they can do in football. We've seen it. I
mean LSU beat uh. Florida is a twenty four point underdog,

(17:45):
so this would be not as big an upset as that.
You know. I think they would need turnovers, they would
need to get off to a quick start and see
Alabama start pressing. You know that a lot of things
would have to happen. So I think you temper the
expectation into a degree. But I think they really need
to not get um. You know, because Brian Kelly has

(18:06):
been selling hard for several years. This idea that you know,
we are progressing, we are there, We're one of the elite.
And the fact is, you know, if you if you
take the elite down to six team, but really the
elite are three teams and Notre Dame is not one
of them. And when Notre Dame plays one of those
three teams, they get housed. And so they kind of

(18:27):
need to not get housed, uh, if they want to
be able to go into recruits living rooms and saying
we're right there with these guys. Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm
with you. I think the differences Pat Fordy joining us,
Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio, the difference like in
college basketball, and you can see this, you know, living
around you know and understand the Kentucky program. I I

(18:51):
think Kentucky because when you add that G League selecting
kids going overseas. Now, let's say, okay, so there's let's
say there's on a give year, there's between five and
fifteen elite level high school players. There's there's two or
three that are above and beyond everybody else, and then
there's a group of well, Kentucky was kind of hand

(19:11):
picking four or five of the best ones on a
yearly basis. Well, now you're lopping off six or seven.
You know, a couple don't want to go overseas or
do the i MG thing or whatever, and a couple
want to go and play for the for the G
League select team. So now they're dealing with a little
different tier of player. And then you know they're that's

(19:32):
being Campbell. They're they're being campbalized by Duke getting one
and dones and Memphis getting one, and Don's and and
and and Michigan recruiting at a higher level and and anyway,
the point is, I think in college basketball, these these
programs that can have a solid base of three four
fifth year kids, the Gonzagas and now they have one

(19:54):
and done, but the other kids are transfers and fourth
and fifth year and the Big Ten. They are best
positioned for the future as opposed to football, where everybody's
got to stay three years. So even though on a
given year Alabama's losing wide receivers, they're able to build
up a base of young talent and develop them during
the years, so there's not the drop off on a

(20:15):
yearly basis. So I think it's harder for those four
and five year programs to make headway in football as
opposed to basketball. Is that hypotheses makes sense? Yeah, it
makes all kinds of sense absolutely, you know. Yeah, I mean,
you know, the phrase you can't here enough now in
the basketball world is get old and staled and and
you know, try to have teteran guys, whether it's people

(20:36):
who have been in your program for three or four years,
or you're getting graduate transfers or a combination, but two
because that's a successful antidote to a lot of the others.
I've been everybody's you know, they there there are no
real Kentucky or do type programs in football because people
have to stay three years. And so you're getting three
years of benefit from you know, some incredible players at

(21:00):
Alabama and Clemson and Ohio State. And then yeah, the
other guys have been coming along behind them for a
year or two and then they get their chance and
they're gonna be three year guys or some of them
will be four year guys. That was Alabama's pick benefit
this year is several guys who could have gotten drafted State,
you know, Naja Harris, DeVante Smith, Alex Leatherwood, offensive lineman,

(21:22):
Dila Moses, the linebacker, and now all of a sudden,
you're not just you know, ridiculously talented, you're also uh
and football. It's yet, it's just easier to do that.
I mean, Clemson brought in the number one recruiting class
in the country this year, and it's a it's a
loaded class, and a lot of those guys really haven't
gotten on the field much because they've already got other
guys there. And now next year, guess what, those guys

(21:45):
will start stepping up and and you'll see it, and
that's why they're going to continue to be good. Yeah.
Pat Ford is joining us here on the Doug Otlip
Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um, all right, Clemson and
Ohio State. Uh, Davo had a poke in the bear
a little bit, poking the bear, poking the bear, poking
the bear, you know, which I like the fact that,

(22:06):
you know, he ranked Ohio State but he's not backing
down from it. But I don't know, doesn't seem as
endearing as it needs to be. What are your thoughts
on on Dabba, who has always been you know, like
him or don't don't like him? Kind of on a
salesman to say, you know, kind of a new age
spur or if you if you will, what are your
thoughts on the calling out of Ohio State for playing

(22:26):
fewer games? Yeah, you know, it's interesting that's among the
least controversial of all the things said this year. I mean,
I know it's got a while state people rolled up,
but he said a lot of other things that people
are like what. But you know, the that's it's interesting
his evolution. He's kind of gone from the fresh face,

(22:46):
the folksy guy to Okay, we've seen him and we've
earned his act, and now we keep hearing his act
and you know what, I don't know, some things he
said are kind of weird, you know, I mean we
we've kind of reached that point of exposure level with
Dabbo where it's like, uh, okay, he's a bit of
a meathead football coach. Now he's a he's a brilliant recruiter, motivator,
all those things. Kids love him. Uh, he's charismatic, his

(23:09):
personal story is amazing. Uh. You know, he there's a
lot to like about that though, But there's also some
things that he has to say that they're like, Okay,
you're a little bit out there, you know, as far
as what he said about Alabama. I'm sorry about Oho State.
You know fine. I I think his position is defensible
for why he rated them eleventh. It's at least consistent

(23:30):
with the rest of his ballot. Well, how State wants
to be mad, they can be. That's fine. They'll settle it.
On the field. I think Clemson is better. I think
Clemson will win. But I don't have a problem with
that as much as many of the other things he
said in dol show on Fox Sports Radio. Any chance
you think he tries the NFL, I think he would
be a bad fit there, I really do, you know.

(23:51):
I think that he's so old school in terms of
how he looks at a lot of things that I
just I don't think it works out well. Now, you know.
Is there a chance maybe that Jacksonville's gonna draft Trevor
Lawrence and says to Trevor, hey, who do you want
to be your coach? He says, I'd like Dabo, And
maybe they say, okay, we'll get Debbo, and maybe Dabo says, okay,
I'll do it. But I don't think it would be

(24:12):
wise for Dabbo to do it. I just think he's
better suited where he is, uh, And I think Nick
Saban at sixty nine is only going to go on
so long. I think Dabbo set up to run the
sport for twenty years. Yeah, I I think Urban makes
a little bit more sense in the NFL, um like
a place like Jacksonville. Do you think that works? I am.

(24:35):
I don't know. I don't know, But I think even
though I don't think Urban is well suited to the NFL,
I think he's better suited than Dabbo um and Urban
smart enough to know and realize his limitations, his his
weaknesses so to speak, that would come with being in
the NFL, namely the fact that even Bill Belichick goes
twelve and four a lot of years, and and like

(24:56):
twelve and four would kill Urban in college. So, you know,
can he hand a losing four times a year? Can
he handle you know, maybe backing off the intensity and
a little bit because there's a lot of thirty year
old men that are gonna say, I don't need you
in my face twenty seven hours a day. You know,
can he handle that? I think he probably at least
realizes he's got to work on those things. Um, So

(25:20):
you know, I think he's a brilliant coach. I wouldn't
be surprised to see him try it. I think he
has a real curiosity in it right now. Yeah, i'd
be interested to see him try it. I think, you know,
it's going to be based upon his success, to be
based upon who he hires. But I do think the
thing that he could have going for him is what
Pete Carroll had when he went from sc to the Seahawks,

(25:40):
which is a knowledge of guys that you recruited or
played against in college. And now he's been able to
evaluate even more, you know, working in this part of
the industry, So he has all different levels of knowledge
of him because they're going to load up through the
draft and and that depth of knowledge should should be
really helpful the way it was for Pete Carroll. Sure, yeah, no,

(26:01):
I think that's true. I think that a crude wisdom,
different perspective and and an idea of yeah, who the
players are and who they aren't. And uh, you know,
I mean I would not bet against Urban Meyer in
any coaching situation being successful. Let's uh, let's let me
ask you real quick. Who wins tomorrow? Um, I think
Alabama Boat Races, Notre Dame and I think Clemson handles

(26:22):
Ohio State pretty easily. Really, I'm not sure that's going
to be a great game either. Yeah, I think, you know,
one of the things that has been lost in and
and in the fact that college football hasn't been I
think a top headline story and you know, and and
what we've paid attention to with college football is the
fact that I'm not sure, like if you would have

(26:45):
gone back to the start of the year, it's like
last year, everybody thought it was two was given me
number one, and who else goes And obviously Joe Burrow
passed him. I justin Fields needs to play well tomorrow
and if he gets two games even or so. He
has not looked he has not taken a step um
in terms of how dynamic he looks throwing the football. Oh,

(27:08):
I totally agree. I think he's he's he looks like
he's regressed it to me in terms of his surreness
of what he's doing. And he's holding the ball a
really long time. And I think defenses have figured out, Okay,
we can heat him up and while he's holding the ball. Yeah,
he's hard to tackle, but you can at least knock
him off of center. You can, you can move him around,
you can sack him, you can get him to make

(27:29):
mistakes throwing, and I think that that he has shown
some real weaknesses that he needs to work on. He's
still a great talent, and maybe he steps up and
plays his best game tomorrow, but he's gonna need to
because I think that's right now, he's he's not showing
what he was showing at the end of last year.
Great stuff, pat have a happy and save new year.

(27:51):
Can't wait to talk to you in twenty one. Appreciate
you being our guest on Fox Sports Radio. My Pleasures,
Happy New Year to YouTube. To be sure to catch
the live edition of The got Leap Show weekdays at
three p m. Easter noon Pacific, Doug Gotlip Show, Fox
Sports Radio. If this is your first time, listen to
me just now. If you tune in The Doug got
Leap Show, you'll hear things like the press, the press,

(28:20):
what do you have? The Isaac Lung crying? All right,
Doug as promise the post game brawl after the Armed
Forces Bowl between Tulsa and Mississippi State. Let's listen to it.
Being described by Bruce Howard on k X b l
now here we go. Jaden Muskrat and Tyra Sweet are
starting to shove each other and you don't need that, guys,

(28:42):
just get off the field. Hold your tempered. Oh now
they are going to get into a fight. This is
so unfortunate as the two teams are gonna go at it.
Goodness gracious, they are all over the place and throwing
a haymaker punches. Uh. What a very disappointed way to
end the game. Among the aspects of this brawl trending

(29:04):
on social media right now video of a Mississippi State
player karate kicking a Tulsa player and then running away,
as well as Mississippi State players streaming themselves on Instagram
live after the game in the locker room watching footage
of themselves brawl on their phones. Listen to this. What's

(29:26):
Sam Dame, What's What's? I can't wait to hear Doug's reaction,
but first let's get the reaction of the two head coaches.
Mike Leach, the head coach of Mississippi State. It's dumb.
The root of it's dumb. No matter what the root
of it is, the root of its dumb, and the
continuation of it is dumb. I would have that solidly

(29:49):
in the category of dumb. Now where the dumb started,
I'm not entirely sure unquote dumb, du dum, dumb dumb. Anyway,
here's a Tulsa coach, Philip Montgomery. He said, we're a
team that's going to stand up for each other and
we're going to battle. We talked about faith, family, football,
and family is going to take care of family. We're
a team that has battled all year long. We battled

(30:12):
again today and from that standpoint, our guys are going
to continue to protect each other and go from there. Okay, Doug,
the floor is yours. Goodness gracious, that was a Tulsa
coach that we're gonna we're gonna battle and battle family
and football. He forgot the other f fighting. Where was
Where were I thought? I thought that Jesus Christ Lee's

(30:33):
landing a sucker punch is a little I mean, I
know you're Jesus, but he came in and just he
shot down from heaven and he just landed that sucker punch.
Like Jesus Christ, what do you do, joke? You start
doing faith? And he had like I don't is it
a huge? Is it? Is it a bad look. Yes,
tuls actually had a really good year this year. It

(30:55):
sucks at this the way their season ends. Mississippisate did not.
The Mississippi State guys look like clowns, like the guy
who uh one of the guys you hear on that
audio is he kicked a Tulsa player and then ran away.
He just you guys look like clowns. I do understand
football mentality is different. Fights do happen. It's not the
end of the world, and hopefully nobody has. Nobody's injured.

(31:17):
Hurt is one thing, injured is another. But it fights
happen in sports. Do I think it's an ugly incident? Yes?
Does it mean like the sports should change? No, get
your guys out the field. I'll ask this under the
guys of his anything not negative ever happened when someone
has done an I G Live from a postgame locker room, Doug,

(31:40):
when you were in college, would you have ever if
I G Live had existed back then? Would you have
ever streamed anything from the locker room on I G
Live when you were that age. I'm glad you're on, Yes,
but there wasn't anything. There wasn't you know? You come
in and go yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah,

(32:03):
and then your coach coming like you, I'm so proud
of you guys, like kick their aft, you know, Like
I mean, it's really but it was funny that, Like
the i G Live yesterday was actually funny, right, Wisconsin wins.
They're dancing, they dropped, they dropped the Maynaise Bit Bowl
trophy like that would like I was like, oh, party
foul you go from that? So so yeah, I guess
we have to add in the nothing good happens after

(32:26):
midnight or during an IG live in the locker room
in the NBA. Baxter Holmes reporting that the NBA is
gonna roll out a new contact tracing program about a
week from now that's going to require players and many
team staffers to where centered devices during all organized team
activities outside of games, such as being on the team

(32:48):
plane the team bust during practices and to and from
the arena or their home practice facility in connection of
team travel. I wish that they wouldn't stop it there,
but so be it. Yeah, I'd love to have a
video of what these guys are doing live. Yes, what's

(33:08):
that techno music in the background. I'm just saying automatic
face time that goes right to right to live. Oh yeah,
I mean it's so easy because they have I G
Live on their phones anyway. You just mesh that with
the contact tracing, easy peasy, and then you leak it
all to TMZ for them to sort through. Final item

(33:31):
on the press today from the National Football League and
involves the Miami Dolphins. Uh. They put quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick
on the COVID list after he reportedly tested positive for
COVID nineteen. Now, the Dolphins obviously playing at Buffalo, and
while Fitzpatrick isn't technically the starting quarterback, we all saw

(33:52):
what he did against the Raiders. He uh, in effect
is garnered the reputation as their closer the last couple
of games. But again, he will not be playing in
their season finale with the Dolphins having an opportunity to
clinch the playoffs. Spot. Yeah, that's a weird deal, right.
Did you know that Ryan Fitzpatrick went to Harvard? I didn't.
I did get out there and pressed. That was the press.

(34:15):
All right, coming up next, here's we're gonna do. Okay,
we've been doing this all afternoon. Long your your silver
lining to two thousand twenty and your um your sports
resolution for two thousand one, we'll all share ours. You
want to hop in eight seven seven six three six nine.

(34:36):

Doug Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio eight seven seven ninety nine, Fox, Uh,

(34:57):
Rob Parker, Jonah Stocks, Odd Cup Well up next to
the Dug Outlip Show. You're on Fox Sports Radio. I'll
say this, So what we've been doing is we can
been kind of um holding some of you guys, sharing
some of our own thoughts. There's plenty of silver linings
in sports, right from from Joe Burrow leading LSU to
a national champiship, Come on, Joe Barrow right? Uh? Did

(35:19):
it go Tigers? Right? Um? And then you know, getting
chance to return to the state of Ohio as the
number one overall pick in the draft. I thought the
NFL Draft was awesome. I thought the virtual Draft was cool.
It was really cool. Fans do nothing for me at
the draft. They help most other sports all other sports
do nothing for me. The draft zero, I liked it

(35:40):
better with without fans. I like the the the Lakers
ring presentation better. I love this having your kids introduce you, dude,
that's cool. There's some silver linings to it, some silver
linings to it. Um, and I do think gets hilarious
to the Lakers, like we did it all we could

(36:02):
have done about you the fans. Actually you did it
without the fans. You did it, all of it, all
of it without the fans, Every single part of it
you did with without the fans. Isaac Lowen cron, do
you have a silver lining for me? From two twenty?
My wife tolerated all the extra time around me. It's

(36:23):
a good thing. It's a good thing. Yeah, I had
I had more time around you. I didn't tolerated, but
you know glad she did. No, I don't blame you
at all. Almost give me a silver lining. Two oh boy,
um well, we have a better um hygiene here at
the radio station. I can tell you that that might
be the greatest line in Fox Sports radio history right there.

(36:45):
You have no idea how funny that was. Radio stations
are generally um. Like there's hockey, hockey, equipment rooms. Um,
like in the in the hierarchy, Um, there's cockey equipment rooms, right,
that's one equipment rooms, um. Then and puck bags, right,

(37:07):
and then there's wrestling. Wrestling helmets and wrestling unitargals are
generally gross. And then radio stations, sports radio stations, especially
because dudes just eat and and equipment is old and
the carpet. She's like, does it really matter? The microphone work?
Does the the the I S d N lines work,
The comrax is work like nobody cares ever, But now

(37:29):
dudes are using hand sanitized. We keep getting it clean.
Somebody pops positive and they they they use um like
all the the infrared technology is pretty amazing. Yeah, nothing's
got on music and I music and I are like,
it's like a doctor's office in this place. Let me
tell you I like it. I don't mind people with

(37:49):
good hygiene, Alright. One thing you're looking forward to, give me?
Give me one like my silver light. He look here,
here's here's what I want. In terms of New Year's resolutions.
I don't want to hear from Notre Dame people unless
you win, you beat beat Alabama. Otherwise, don't want to
hear from you sorry, I don't want don't want to
hear from you. I don't want to hear. I'm tired
of hearing the Aaron Rodgers skills falling off. Look, dude,

(38:10):
guy can straight up play play. And if you think
the Packers got it wrong drafting a quarterback why are
they back here when in thirteen games again? And oh yeah,
by the way, they'll have an air apparent in place.
And if they decide they want to stick with in Rogers,
they trade that thing. He is a new car. As
long as you don't drive him off the off the lot,
so long as you don't play him, you're You're fine,
You're absolutely fine. I know you have a you have

(38:35):
a resolution you'd like to share. I want to hear
the roar of the crowd again. I do I do it.
We need him back in college sports, uh and and
NFL sports, I mean professional sports. And I think it'll happen.
We just have to have some patience, that's all. We're close.
The numbers are gonna be bad because you know, and
too many people went home and traveled for Christmas, and
they'll get together here for New Year's Eve. They'll spike. Hopefully,

(38:57):
you and yours stay healthy and stay safe. Look has
been a rough year. I could pitch you to you
a bunch of ways. But in l A, Texas are
high and the so are the COVID numbers. Dodgers and
Lakers still champions. There's always silver lining, find the good,
not the bad, and things Enjoy sports Tomorrow National Semifinals,

(39:21):
then NFL Weekend Week seventeen should be awesome. We'll cover
it all for you on Fox Boards Radio. Back with
you Monday. I know it's just a Thursday off Tomorrow,
