You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom, What Up America,
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Man, I hope you're
great getting ready for the NBA Playoffs which start tomorrow.
We'll talk about him today. We have an outstanding show
(00:42):
for you. Frank I Sola cover the NBA for years,
will join us in twenty five minutes. We'll get his
thoughts on the play in tournament and the playoffs series,
plus two New York teams gonna play in this thing.
Of course, Frank lives works in New York City. John
middle Calf will join the second hour of the show. Um,
I'm sure Midlkoff will want to talk golf. Will do
a little bit of that, and uh yeah, we'll talk
(01:05):
NFL as well with our some vity, vitty vitty interesting
um stories. Maybe the most interesting story, by the way,
does revolve around golf. Phil Mickelson, Am I reading this right?
Two shots above? Victor Hovlin leading leading the p g
(01:26):
A Championship, Phil Mickelson leading the PGA Championship. I'm not
gonna get Tiger maybe ever again. But you get Phil.
You're welcome, CBS UH signed golf. So pretty pretty cool
stuff there, whether you're Phil guy or not a Phil guy.
Phil is one of two golfers that people tune in for,
(01:47):
the other one obviously Tiger Woods. But we'll talk with
Middelkoff a little bit later on the show. Plus Bob
Nightingale will join us USA Today major League Baseball senior writer,
and we'll get his thoughts on six no hitters, six
no hitters, six so far in baseball. There's no such
thing as a good excuse for not buckling up law
(02:09):
enforcement writing tickets. Why take the risk to the smart thing?
Start buckling up on every trip, day or night, click
it or ticket paid for by NITZA. So the numbers
were out from the Lakers Warriors game ones a night,
five point six million viewers. That's higher than anything you'll
see on cable TV in the regular season. There was
the Warriors Thunder game in two thousand and sixteen. That
(02:31):
was when Steph Curry came down and hit a fort
to win the game. Remember that one that was on
I think around Christmas Day. It was Christmas Day. It
was on ABC, which is remember the other the game
that I was on ESPN, So ABC it was a
February game. Sorry, so February game Warriors Thunder. But again
that was Kevin Durant and the Warriors against the Thunder.
That got five point three million viewers. The undercard Grizzly
(02:53):
Spurs got two point three million viewers. That's at viewership rise.
Even though the game was later on the West Coast,
which means half of the East Coast went to sleep.
It's an amazing number. I don't believe that the NBA
is wanton for Lebron to win a championship or wanton
(03:15):
for Steph Curry to win a championship or compete for
a championship. Okay, but I would admit that I think
anybody who's reasonable that lived through the Tim Donneghie scandal
would say, which is that some of the officiating, especially
in the past, has left you wondering. I mean, is
(03:37):
this something up and up right? Is this something up
and up? Is this something oppen up? It happens in
baseball when a guy hits a bunch of home runs,
we think he's a steroid guy. Why because it wasn't
on the up and up for over a decade. Happens
in boxing, were like he took a dive. Why because
(03:57):
it's happened before. Because it's happened before. And the NBA,
they are trying desperately to shed that image that Tim
donaghye cast upon them, which is they want certain players,
certain teams to advance, and certain other ones to go home.
Tonight bid be one of those games. If that was
(04:18):
actually the case, that they wanted some team where the
Warriors or the Grizzlies not the job. RAN's not a
great watch, but nobody watches the Memphis Grizzlies play case
and point Grizzly Spurs two point three million viewers. I'm
guessing that number progressed as the night went on because
people are getting ready watch the Lakers and no Warriors.
(04:39):
So I don't I don't think that the the n
b A wanting their stars in the playoffs is anything
not only new to the NBA, but new to sports.
I think that one reasons baseball went to an additional
wild card game was because, as the previous format had it,
(05:02):
you'd have the Yankees or the Red Sox, and occasionally
you'd have Yankees and Red Sox, but the probability of
getting them both in the playoffs on a yearly basis
was very, very very slim, and now, of course it grows.
Now it grows. The downside obviously, how baseball has done
(05:24):
is with the one game playing game, you do run
the risk of the Red Sox the Yankees getting into
the playing game and then getting dusted off. But the
upside is you want the Yankees and the Red Sox
to be involved every year. Why because they're the two
teams that people watch, and the Warriors and the Lakers
are to the two teams that people watch in the NBA.
(05:44):
Steph Curry says, they'll be ready for tonight. So we
played pretty well in a night missed this type of environment.
It was a lot of fun, high intensity, high from
out at the level it's brought to everybody and stop
filling the forward tonite and how we play. You know
(06:05):
that if they made a run of the reporter when
you turn the ball over them and change the game,
but still gave ourself a chance to win. Still get
him a chance to win. And now they take on
the Grizzlies, who are constructed very differently. Jonas Valanciunas is
really the m v P of of the Grizzlies, And
the question becomes, you know, can they play with the
(06:27):
Warriors when the Warriors go small? And so that's always
the question with anybody. My answer is no, I don't
think they can. I think the Warriors win this game.
I think they win it handily. I think the league
and NBA playoff series are about matchups, and this is
gonna be interesting heading forward because Steph Curry and the Warriors,
if they win, they get the Utah Jazz, and the
(06:48):
Utah Jazz is best and most important player. Donald Menchell
obviously in the conversation is Rudy Gobert. Can Rudy Gobert
play in that series? I guess. I guess he can play,
you know, off of Draymond Green and being to help,
But can he be the best version of himself when
(07:10):
the Warriors go small. I don't know the answer to that,
but I don't think it's anything sinister. I don't think
it's anything of the Tim donoghie variety. I just think
the reality is that if you want people to watch
basketball games in the playoffs, having Steph Curry involved, arguably
the most popular player in the NBA, still that's a
(07:32):
good thing. And Steph Curry being at home not a
good thing. Kind of simple, right, kind of a simplistic
way of looking at it, and and and and the
NFL is much the same. But this is much more
in reality, this is much more, much much much much
more about these little things like giving a team, giving
(07:58):
these players, the best player, the most opportunities to be
seen on national television. The more times they're seen, the
more times they're likely to be seen by more people,
and that grows your audience and grows the popularity of
your game. But look, the NBA is forever fighting that
fight of Once upon a time, Tim timan Doneghie told stories,
(08:21):
some of which were true, some of which were not true,
and that seed was planted where we don't think it's
on the up and up. Who advances in the playoffs,
We just don't. I think it's on the up and up.
And even with it being on the up and up,
I know that the NBA has. Look, the NBA has
not had a great year and a half. In the ratings,
(08:46):
it's not people preferred the folklore of the Michael Jordan's
Last Dance documentary to the actual basketball the NBA. Some
of that was we kind of fatigue Lebron fatigue. Some
of that was, you know, by the time they got
to the finals, there was there was football on TV.
(09:08):
And some of that is Steph Curry is super popular.
He wasn't involved. Now, Curry may only be involved for
four or five or six more games if they win tonight,
but those four or five or six more games are
vital to the health of the league. College basketball is
more highly rated when Duke Carolina, Kentucky, Syracuse, Kansas are involved.
(09:30):
Even the NFL as I mean, like, look, they still
stars sell, but so too to the Steelers Packers. I
guess now the Chiefs become kind of the nation's team,
if you will, because people love it. But that it's
not just the size of the market in the NBA.
It's about stars, and they badly need Steph Curry in
(09:51):
the playoffs. Be sure to catch the live edition of

So I read this and it appeared obvious to me
Ian rapport that says the Jaguars gave Tim Tebo one
year nine guarantee. I mean a nine year, one nine
(10:14):
one year. Can we start this again, Welcome Ban dougt
Lip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Tim Tebow got a one year,
nine grand contract with no guaranteed money and an injury
split the minimum. Not a surprise, but basically he's a
guy who's gonna have to make the team in order
to secure any sort of salary. Tebow currently holds the
(10:38):
top five spots in the NFL and NFL merchandise sales
men's and women's jerseys, men's and women's T shirts, and
youth jerseys. All five are selling more than any rookie
jersey on the market. Pretty amazing, Pretty amazing. Do I
think that means he makes the team? No? Do I
think that's the reason that he got a shot? No,
I definitely don't think it's Uh what does Stephen they
(10:59):
call it white privilely? Yeah, sure, sure it is, Steven A.
What's the matter with people like? I don't know, I
just uh, the the race. Baiting has to stop, has
to stop. That's just you're you're intentionally inserting something into
(11:24):
the conversation which has nothing to do with it. Nothing,
zero zero. I don't know if that's why Tim Tebow
is popular. Probably popular because, um, he was on a
reality show when he was in high school, and he
was the most He was the most highly touted high
(11:44):
school recruit in the country when he signed at Florida,
turning down Auburn. And then he was a part of
a national championship team as a backup quarterback, then a
starter on a national championship team when a heighsman trophy,
and then went to the NFL and was overdrafted, but
in a miraculous turn of events, they got to the
playoffs and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs. All
(12:05):
these things happened. When his days were numbered in the NFL,
he went to baseball. That didn't work out. I don't understand.
I don't understand the aggressiveness with the attacking, with with
people attacking him. I don't. I mean, look, I know
(12:29):
he's not changing positions. But Dez Bryant got a shot
last year with the Baltimore Ravens. Is he still with
the Ravens no idea. You know, guys get opportunities to
make the team, But if you don't have a guaranteed contract,
I would wonder how many how many Jacksonville Jaguar tight
(12:52):
ends have guaranteed money. You're far more likely to get cut,
far less likely to get reps. You're gonna have to
earn your way on the team. And even then, just
because you're on the team in preseason or even in
the regular season doesn't mean they can't catch you because
there's no guarantee there. Although I believe because he's a veteran,
if he survives after the first week, his contract is
(13:14):
fully vested. He gets all nine grand, which, while it's
a lot of money for me and you, it's not
a lot of money for an NFL football player. But
I think that number is really really telling. It says
exactly exactly what I've told you. He's a guarantee. He's
(13:35):
a non guarantee guy who would just get a shot
at camp. It's it's just like what the Packers are
doing signing these arms as camp arms. Those guys aren't
making the team. They're not making the Packers all they're
doing is throwing routes and learning the offense and hopefully,
you know, hopefully getting a nice report for maybe another
team that will sign them, and and one guy. Of course,
(13:57):
we'll get that practice team callback. But I can't see
anything that sits here and says he's absolutely positively going
to be on the team or even has a strong
shot at making the team. I don't know, Davin, can
you make heads or tails of the negativity towards Tim
(14:18):
Tebow trying to make the Jaguars. It feels a lot
like the Colin Kaepernick thing. It's like everyone is dug
in on whatever side they're on, and Tebow is just
like the opposite of it. So I don't get it,
especially in the opposite of what I don't know, Like
I like, they want to go after his race for it,
Like I think it's pretty clear it has nothing to
(14:39):
do with what race he is. It has more to
do with who he knows in the business, and his
guy got a job there and he's going to give
him a shot. That's it. That's it, That's what it
comes down to. I mean, no one ever points out,
no one ever points out that there are guys on
the coaching staff that are a only on the coaching
(15:00):
staff because of their relationship with Urban Meyer. Right, Charlie
Strong is the assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach.
Go look Charlie. Charlie Strong has been He had a
thirty eight year career in college football. He was the
head coach at Louisville, at Texas, at South Florida. I thought,
(15:23):
you know, I thought he would turn into Texas. He
never whether he didn't get the time, he never turned around.
He just couldn't, you know, I just couldn't couldn't get going.
What's interesting is the guy who replaced him got less
time to just just a few of a time to
get a going at Texas. But there's there's He's never
(15:48):
coached in the NFL before. Ever, it doesn't mean he's
not qualified, but he hasn't. Why is he getting this
opportunity because he coached for Meyer and Urban trust him
and he probably has recruited half the guys on the
football team and he has the respect of those guys. Now,
will there be people on the Jaguars that don't respect
(16:09):
Tim Tebow? Sure, they'll be guys that don't want him
on the team that don't want him taking away attention.
That makes even harder for him to make the team,
not easier. Plus, when you get the professional sports, it
just guys don't usually have animus towards one another on
the same team. You just all trying to pull for
the same goal, trying to help guys out. Yesterday we
(16:31):
had uh Naime hair Naime hands on right and what
what did he tell us about his time with Jonathan Taylor?
Like when he got there, he was like, Yo, you
gotta come catch balls with me. They're fighting for the
same reps in a game. But that ain't when it's
about he got there Because it's a favor. He's not
(16:55):
the only favor on an NFL roster. I guarantee guarantee
that if you looked at their roster, you looked at
their ninety man roster once they get into camp, he
ain't the only favor, not just on the Jaguars, but
especially in the National footbablllice. My guess is there's several
favors there, and there are guys that probably have a
(17:16):
long standing positive relationship with urban Meyer, with somebody on
the team, and that's why they're gonna get that shot.
But I will say that when you're making a non
guaranteed league minimum and your contract is fully guaranteed after
the first game, surviving until that first game is really
really hard. Be sure to catch the live edition of
(17:38):
The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m. Easter
noon Pacific. Quick shout out to my man Dan Buyer. Course,
Dan has his little baby baby Brady. Who is uh?
Who is I'm sure watching? Right? I don't think there's
there is um. There are very few guarantees I can make,
(17:58):
very few guarantees I can make in life. But I
can guarantee you that Dan Buyer is watching the p
G A Championship right now. Any argument there, Kevin, No,
I think that's very accurate. Yeah, right, like sun rises
in the east and sets in the west, and Dan
Buyer is watching golf, one of golf's majors on TV.
(18:19):
That's that that that's my guarantee. The funny thing was
when he took time off to watch the Masters. But
the Masters was actually terrible, right the last one we
just had like that wasn't that wasn't you know the
legendary Tiger Masters from a few years ago, new not
even not even close. Frank gi solo joining us on
the Doug Ot Lip Show on Fox Sport trait of
(18:40):
course cover the NBA for years. You can hear his
own NBA show on Sirius x M and b A Radio. Frank,
let's start with um. Two nights ago, Warriors Lakers, your
biggest takeaway was what not even when Lebronson had his best,
he still found a way to come through in the
clutch with that big three and that he that he hit.
(19:01):
He didn't seem to be moving well, yet he's still
recorded a triple double. You know, the Warriors don't have
nearly as much talent as the Lakers do. Maybe the
Lakers will be in a little bit of trouble if
if Anthony Davis and Lebron is gonna play like that
like they did in the first half. But it's just
like for me Jordan in the nineties, it's kind of
the way I feel about Lebron. Tough to bet against
him when his playoffs started, It is really really tough
(19:23):
to play against him. When when the playoffs start, really
really tough to bet against him. Um, okay, let's let's
let's get to tonight. How important is it for the
league to get Steph Currying the playoffs. Yeah, I think
it is. And I think, you know, the one downside
that this whole playing for him. If you remember last Sunday,
the Warriors played Memphis for the eight nine spots. So
(19:46):
now you're asking the Warriors to do it again for
the second time in six days. They're a better team
than Memphis. Memphis is younger. Who knows, maybe Steph Curry
will be a little run down by the way that
he played over the past month and the way that
he you know, the game the other night. So to me,
I think this is a little bit more of a
toss up than maybe some other people think that it is.
But that's why it does. I was rooting for the
(20:07):
Warriors to win the other night because I wanted to
see Lebron in a situation where he was facing you know,
you know, win or go home. Can you imagine the
call that the Lakers would have gotten tonight against the
Memphis Grizzlies. Half of the case, I think Lebron would
have gone to the pre throw a lot about twenties
and thirty times. Yeah, can the can the Warriors beat
the Jazz? I don't think they can even though Donovan Mitchell,
(20:30):
you know, I guess he's saying that he's gonna be
available for Game one, but he hasn't played since early April,
so I don't know how you know how effective he's
going to be. But I think I think the youth
dot Jazz could figure out a way to take four
games off the Warriors. I just don't think Draymont Green
is obviously a very good player, but they you know,
Steps is going to be up against it against the
team like the Warriors, and you know, when he's not
(20:52):
shooting threes, he doesn't like to drive to the basket.
And you know this, the Jazz like to funnel everything
right toward Rudy Gobert, and Rudy Gobert led the league
with little blocks. I know they gave it to Bias
Turner because he had the average of most. But Colbert
is a beast in the pain he he is. He
is would be interesting to see if they can use
the fact that Gilbert play so far back to their advantage.
(21:12):
But is who's your m v P. I had a vote,
and I thought it. I voted Nikolay kich One. I
did vote Steph Curry too. I did not have Dolan
and Bid in my top five. I can't believe that
how many people had him that he's gonna finish in
the top three. He played in fifty one games. I mean,
(21:35):
at what would be the cutoff point? I mean, to me,
he missed twenty one of seventy one games. I know
that the guy had a great year and he put
a big number as well. And also, if you're going
if you're gonna miss twenty one games, it means you're
gonna be more You're gonna have more rest than the
other players did. The Kitch had big numbers. He played
in every single game. I think he averaged twenty six
points something points, and he obviously was double to the
(21:57):
rebounds and right around eight assist game. I don't know.
To me, this season, I didn't think it was close.
Why who did you? Who did you like? No? No,
I probably would have done Yokich. I think um Steph
would have been the one that would be It would
be hard for me to not not put him close
to the top, considering they were the worst team in
the NBA and then this year they made the playoffs. Right.
(22:18):
I understand he has his flaws and I think Yokich
helps you at both ends, so that they're in kind
of lies the difference. But I do think you have voted.
Would you have voted and beat in your top five
my top five? Yeah, that's because that's when you vote
MVP on the ballot, you have you vote for five guys.
It's a great question the game, probably, I mean, okay,
(22:41):
so so Janice would have had to be on their
right Steph Yokich, and then who, well I went, I
went um. I think this year him he's probably my
favorite player in the league. I went Yokich, Curry, Chris
Paul Lillard, and then I put Julius rand in there.
Threw him a little bone for the year that he
(23:02):
had with the New York Knicks. Like he you know,
he also played in seventy one games. If to me,
if you didn't play at least sixty, I wasn't putting
you on the top five NBA for m v P.
And I didn't put any of those guys on the
first team all NBA mean at some point, man, don't
I mean, it's the one sport where it seems like
nobody values actually playing in the games. If I find
(23:25):
I find that to be a little odd. And that's
the same thing with Empeat. I know he's a great
player and he's dominant when he does play, but fifty
one out of seventy two games, to me, that's not enough.
I would, I would. I generally agree with you. I
think the NBA has a real problem that literally nobody
cares about the regular season. And that's the only reason
the m v P thing has become more of a
(23:45):
discussion is because, honestly, I think ESPN wants people to
try and pay attention to the NBA otherwise, I mean,
but they not enough people care and the players don't
care enough. It's like, do we get in the playoffs? Good?
That's that's what well, Doug. We always joke round about it.
It's like the one sport. I think we start talking
about the MVP race at halftime at the first game
(24:05):
of the season, like in the NFL. I know there
was a little bit of that this year, Like after
like a couple of weeks you heard people saying Russell
Wilson has to be her m v P. He's never
won the award. I'm thinking it's the third week of
the season. The NFL season has a long I kind
of like that about the other sports, that it's not
a topic of discussion during the regular during the regular season,
and also be fair, it doesn't seem to really matter.
(24:27):
I have no idea how many m vps Tom Brady one.
I know that he's won a heck of a lot
of Super Bowls. I think, like it seems like in
those sports, those kind of awards aren't as big as
it seems to be in the NBA. That's that's that's
completely fair. Um, are you a buyer into the nets? Definitely?
I did you know, I do a lot of their
(24:49):
games on the Yes Network, so you know I got
to see them, uh, you know, a lot this season.
You know, they only had the three guys eight times,
and you know when they do play, especially when Harden
is out there, he's just so good and Duran duranswer freak.
I mean, he's so he's so good. He very rarely
makes a bad play. He never takes a bad shot,
he rebound, he defends, and think about it. You know
(25:13):
when he steps on the court, Uh, tomorrow night, it's
gonna be his first postseason game since he blewed his
achilles in Toronto. I think that was June tenth. I
was at that game that night. It was, you know,
just the whole thing was very surreal seeing a great
player like that go down. I think for Kevin Durant
and the last two times that he's been in the
NBA Finals, I know he was with a great team
(25:34):
and when he was healthy, not only did he win
the championship, but he was the Finals MVP. I think
he lives for these moments. He's only played thirty five
games this season, and in theory, he could play a
maximum of twenty eight games. If all four series would
it go seven games, which I don't think they will,
But I I I do believe in the Brooklyn Nets.
I think in the second round it's obviously gonna be
(25:54):
a very difficult matchup. They're either gonna get in Milwaukee
or they're gonna get in Miami. Miami, with the experience
who all he did already beat the Nets twice this season,
that could end up being their toughest matchup in that
second round. I don't think there's any any question there.
Let me ask you about the West, do you have
a problem with the Clippers dodging the Lakers until the
(26:14):
conference finals? I do from this standpoint, it's, you know,
the Clippers, you've never accomplished anything as an organization. Know
a few years ago when you know with the Chris
Paul Blake Griffin DeAndre Jordan's team, they had the big lead,
the seventeen point lead against the Rockets, are on the
verge of going to the Conference FO. They blew that game,
end up blowing the series, and obviously last year what
they did to Denver and that here you are in
(26:36):
the final week of the season, that's like what your
interest is like finagling it somehow so you could, you know,
finish where you ended up playing. What's weird about it too?
I mean Oklahoma City think about that game. That game
should maybe they should have put that game on TV
because those are two teams really trying to lose and
the Clippers ended up doing it. I had a big
problem with it. To me, it's and if I'm Lebron James,
(26:57):
I'm kind of laughing. I'm like, have pathetic is team
that they've never done anything. We didn't play them last
year because they didn't get there, and now they're doing
everything they can to avoid us. I I didn't like it.
I actually like what the Bucks did they went out
there that they helped the Knix out, that's for sure
by beating Miami. Now the Knicks got the fourth seed.
They play Atlanta and Milwaukee has to play Miami. So
(27:19):
I think for the sake of competition, I think we
need Milwaukee to beat Miami in the first round. Yeah,
but I mean, that's stupid what they did. But you
say that, but what do it like? It's the only
sport where we talk about this because you can't control
it because you don't have them any games that you
can control it, right because in the in the NFL,
but you know, I mean like, look, you're you're trying
(27:39):
to get home home field advantage. In the NFL, I
don't think you could control it nearly is easily because
there's not teams tanking the way there are in the NBA.
But I also think you're sending a message like if
you're the Milwaukee Bucks and if they don't get to
at least the conference finals, my boot holes will get fired.
She's really supposed to tell his team and the honest
and had a compo, who's gonna run through a brick wall?
Let's stop playing this game. I remember I covered the
(28:01):
Knicks in the late nineties and Charlotte Hornets beat the
next four times during the regular season, and they purposely
lost the Detroit on the final night of the season
so they can meet the Knicks in the first round.
The Knicks ended up sweeping them. You know, that was
a team with Mason. I think Anthony Mason was the one,
being that it was Anthony Mason, Bladye diva. I believe
Glenn Rice was on that team as well. Yeah, sometimes
(28:23):
when you sometimes you can actually have smart yourself, no question,
no question. And there's part to it where you're like,
I get that you want to get past you know
that you want to play the Lakers when there's even
more tread worn off the tires. Or maybe it's that
they prefer to play the Jazz as opposed to playing
in the second round as opposed to play in the suns.
Or maybe it's that they want to play the Mavericks
as the Mavericks don't play in defense. I don't know
(28:44):
what it is, right, but but but I don't think
it's nearly as dumb a decision, although I do think
that's what they've done. And the counter to it is
the Lakers have not looked right, and the more games
they played together, the more likely they are too gear
it out in may backfire in that way. Yeah, and
then you know, I think right, and then I think
(29:06):
for Milwaukee and Miami. You know, Miami did knock them
out last year, and that's why it'll be interesting to
see how a lot of these players performed now that
you're gonna have bigger crowds. You know, the one ugue
manage that the Heat had. You know, Lebron had a
huge advantage last year not having to travel for a
guy at his age and having to get on all
these different planes during the playoffs. I thought it was big.
But I think for a team like Miami, with all
day young players, they never had to go into a
(29:27):
hospital environment, and I think that's one of the reasons
we saw some of these crazy games that guys had
in the bubbles. You know, Jamal Murray and Donovan Mitzwel
going off scoring fifty plus points. One of those would
have been a road game for Jamal Murray. I'm not
saying that he can't do it on the road, but
it's different that Miami team didn't have to go to
Boston last year to play in front of you know,
a Boston crowd on a Friday night when the roll
(29:47):
boozed up and they're out for blood. So let's we'll
see how you know, damn out of Bayou Duncan Robinson,
Tyler the Hero. We'll see how they do now that
they have to play road games as a lower seeded team.
I'm not saying that they're not going to come through,
but now we'll get to see how they really do
in front of the crowd. No, it's to be a
completely completely different, completely different deal. That's that's that's the
(30:08):
voice of Frank Guy solo series Sex m NBA Radio.
Gun to your head. Who's in the finals? I'm gonna
say the Brooklyn Nets and the Lakers. It's the easy,
whimpy way out. But that's what I'll say. I would
not count out Milwaukee because you know this, Drue Holiday
makes a huge different Derek Bledsoe, God bless him. He's
a terrific athlete, but my god, and you know, come
(30:30):
playoffs him, he can never make a big shot off
his life dependent on it. True Holiday, is there a
much better team than they've been the last two years.
So if you honest could knocked down his free throws.
I'm not as worried about the three as I'm about
the free throws statum. When seventeen or seventeen the other night,
you honest can have those kind of games where he's
gonna go to the line a lot knocked down his
free throws and Milwaukee would have a chance against the Nets.
(30:51):
So who gets the finals? I said, Brooklyn? I got
Brooklyn and the Lakers. Brooklyn and the Lakers. Frank So, Frank,
great stuff? Man? That would be that would be amazing
if we saw that. Thanks for joining us. Be sure

when we do so by playing a game. This is
game time time on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Deb Carson,
What do you have my friend John Ramos psychic? We
(32:18):
are playing psychic psychic? Alright, Doug Gottlieb Psychic. Will Tim
Tebow make the Jaguars roster? Uh? No, Okay, no, No.
I think the effort to having be a culture setter
(32:38):
or whatever, it's just it's too hard. Just it's it's
too hard to do. I don't see him doing it.
Totally separate question. Do you see him ending up somewhere
in the organization with the Jags? Potentially? Yes, yes, I do.
I think, um, you know, maybe he does some sort
of video coordinator. In turn, like, if he wants to
be around football, this is his best in and may
(33:00):
have been the best idea to begin with. But yes,
I do see him around around football that way kind
of like Matthew McConaughey at u T he's the Minister
of Culture, something like that, something like that. Yes, it's
a very very good one, all right, psychic. What will
be the biggest upset if any, in the opening round
of the NBA Playoffs. It's interesting you point that out, okay,
because I was going to bed rivers and I was
(33:23):
looking at their lines and what's I think. What's fascinating
about it is, you know, people will make this assumption
that the Lakers, for example, are are our underdogs, right
because the Lakers are a seven seed and the Phoenix
Suns are a two seed. But that's not the way
(33:44):
it works, right, That's not not even close. Um. I
think the biggest you know, quasi upset, if you will,
will be the Portland Trailblazers over the Denver Nuggets. That's
the one I'm calling. And and the logic behind it
is I think Yo Kich is great. Um. I think
(34:04):
they're hard to guard. But I think that Portland's fully healthy,
which they weren't. You know, they weren't last year. They
haven't been at times in the playoffs. I think Portland
becomes a better team and a hard batchup for him,
and yeah, I Portland's take Portland's taken down the Denver
Nuggets is my upset pick. I think that's a good call. Actually,
(34:28):
all right, Psychic well, Julio Jones get traded this offseason? Yes, yes,
I think it's really really hard to put that genie
back in the bottle once you've told people, and you
call people, Paul call him the player as well, Like
I don't like that either. I understand that it's something
that people do to make it feel less personal more
(34:52):
about business. But he's only been Atlanta Falcon and he's
been inarguably their great greatest wide receiver ever and maybe
their greatest player ever. And with that in mind, I
do think that there should have been more of a
personal touch. But they're saying that because they're kind of
done here and they're ready to move on. That's right.
Parcel started that trend, by the way, calling people the player. Yes, yes,
(35:14):
all right, Psychic Well, show heyo Tani when the a
l m v P this season, that's a great question
he should will he Um? Yeah, yeah, I think show
Heyotani will win. The The only thing that's holding me
back now, did you see his last outing where his
average mile per hour was way way down and was
(35:36):
down around like he'd been throwing average like nineties six,
so that people trying to figure out there's something wrong
with this arm. Of course, he has a surgically repaired
elbow going back a couple of years ago. I just think,
I mean, it's hard enough for any player to stay
healthy through the whole season in Major League baseball, much
less a guy who's a two way player and plays
at such a high level. But you know, it's funny.
I talked to the Major League a couple of years
(35:57):
ago before he got hurt, and he was like, dude,
what he's wing? That's little league stuff. Nobody's ever done
that in modern day baseball. And I think players are noticing,
I think fans are noticing, and more than anything, the
voters are going to notice as well. And I think
it's fun it's great. It's great for Major League Baseball obviously,
it's great for the sport internationally as well. Alright, well,
it's and it's awesome for the Angels, who you know,
(36:19):
it's like Pools hit a home run last night, and
you know, trying to figure out, like, why would anybody
care about that team? And now you figure, okay, even
without Mike Trot, you can care about that exactly. All right,
We've got something fun going on right now on the coast.
We've got Phil Nicholson leading the PGA Championship by a stroke. Psychic, well,
(36:39):
the current leader, Lefty win the p g A Championship,
why not? Sure? Sure? I mean, look, he's won the
p g A several times over right, the US Open,
which is the one you know, couldn't break through. Yeah,
He's got one p g A, one Open Championship, three Masters,
and he's finished six times either can or tied for
(37:00):
second at the U s Open, So he can't get
over that hurdle. Yeah. And I understand, you know, the
older the golfer, you worry kind of later on into
the weekend. But I don't know. I mean, his his
creativity and shot making is amazing. His flop shot around
the green his legendary. I'll say, yes, I like that.
It would be obviously great for golf and great for
(37:21):
ratings and I love that Psychic Well done, And that
is game time on the Dug Gottli Show. A right,
A lot of stuff going on in the world sports
here on the Doug gotlive show on Fox Sports Radio.
Middle Cauf will join us next time. We'll get his
thoughts on on Lefty and whether or not he can
sustain it. Um. I don't like links style golf courses.
(37:44):
Part of that is like, you know, you hit one
and it's not going like, I don't know. I like
that the American style tree line golf courses. I understand
that this is how golf was truly meant to be played,
and you know, seaside golf additionally, right, Like, all of
that stuff makes a ton of sense to me, but
(38:04):
I personally like in playing it it looks better to
watch than it does to play, just because it's so
hard to control the ball when it gets windy, and
I have a tough enough time controlling the golf ball
to begin with. So count me down as that put
me down as a hater. That's it put me down
as a hater. And I've never even been a field guy.
And I still want Phil to win, just because man,
(38:24):
there's just there's what is the other reason to watch golf?
That's really that's the question I have for you. Like, Well,
there's now and I like Victor Hoblin, right, Oklahoma State guy.
He's never moved out of still Water. He's an awesome
young player who's probably gonna win a major at some
point in time. Louis oust Hazen's there. My favorite thing
(38:47):
is when they hit it right and they point to
the right, like, yeah, I've been there before, Buddy, been
there before. If you look at that leaderboard, think that
leader board, I mean it is a Schmorga's board of
South African golfers. Brandon Grace, Louis Ustazin up there, brooks
