are you're listening to Fox Sports Radio? What I want

(00:28):
you Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Have you guys
ever noticed this? Um? So, I've I've been here for
four years, four years. I've been on Fox Sports Radio.
I was at um CBS Sports Radio. We launched this

(00:52):
basically five years there. Um And I was an ESPN
before that. And I believe it's only been like two
weeks in the last like ten years. Have I ever
talked taken off an entire week? Because and and I
think many of you will experience this this summer, right,

(01:14):
I don't know what your summer looks like. I'm trying
to figure out mine and my kids and what they
do in camps and vacations and things like that. But
it's like, if you watch the PGA Championship, it was awesome,
but a little uncomfortable with how many people were they
were like, and then you know, I opened up my
uh Saturday night, I had a bunch of basketball games

(01:35):
I coached, and um my daughter Grace was like, hey,
let's do something fun. I said, what about was sleeping
the tent? Like awesome? So and we had done this
during the during the pandemic, during when we're all quarantined,
we we camped out a couple of times, but we
were all so tired that this time, like eleven o'clock,

(01:56):
there were no camp stories. We're just out. Just everybody's
out cold. Right. But one of the reasons we didn't
shut it down until late was there was like a
a party at the house behind ours, right. And my
point is, does feel like pandemics over And as you
get invited to go do things, you know, if you

(02:18):
get invited to go do things, you're like, let's go.
Everybody this summer you are going. I if you have
the money, you have a job, or even sometimes you
have money not having a job recently. I don't want
to get into that, but um, I have a feeling
that you're gonna get out of here. Last summer was

(02:38):
actually cool. I didn't do this, but if I had
the camping gene in me. A lot of people just
went and got you know, bought or rented RV and
just went it went somewhere. I'd like to do that
this summer, but people are just like, look, I gotta
I gotta get out of the country. I gotta get
out of the state. I've been in the same place.
I've been contained for so long. So I think this

(03:02):
summer you'll see a lot of people go on more
lengthy trips and check out and be like, look, I've
been grindings, you know, and I just need to get out.
I don't do it because I feel like when I
come back the emails, have you ever done that? I
didn't look at my email. This is funny. I'm usually

(03:23):
every morning I wake up, it's bad habit. I look
at my phone, not just for the time, and then
I put my schedule on it and what I need
to do and how I need to call and all
these other things. Because I'm I am. I remember everything,
but I can be a forgetful little thing person or
if you like that. But what's interesting to me is

(03:45):
I was coaching this weekend, and I was with my
kids on Friday, Like Friday night, I watched Gray's Anatomy
with one daughter. Saturday night, I camped out with the
other daughter, and I just made it to myself like,
I'm not gonna look at my emails at all this
weekend and the like Sunday afternoon, I was done with everything.
I was like, oh, how do I get emails? Why
am I getting bed, bath and beyond all the time?

(04:09):
And so one of the reasons that I struggled to
take a week off of work, and this is, I
guess work the coolest job ever is that I hate
missing stuff, but sometimes you kind of missed stuff even
when you're still working. I haven't taken a day off.
But in the last three days since we last spoke,

(04:33):
catch me up, Doug. Friday night, Steph Curry was eliminated
for the playing game. Eliminated. Remember Draymond Green smoked that
lay up at the end of regulation and then they
lost in overtime. Remember that, Yeah that happened. That was

(04:53):
that there was no weekday in between now and then
just then Saturday Saturday was the janest win. You know,
were time take a listen, is you know the boat
down to uh you know what's bone commun Now you're
gonna get to us up and uh, everybody else we

(05:13):
tried to go for the first rebab would think he
made it. He got him made now, and that, of
course is Chris Middleton. That that he's speaking of. Now,
let's let's not paint some fairytale picture of Janice and
how great he was in Game one. I'm gonna disagree
with Rick Poker, who joined this last hour when he's like, look,

(05:37):
he didn't change his game. He kept driving the basqu
basketball even though he was missing free throws, Like even
though he's missing free throws. I contend that the number
one rule change the NBA should make is the is
adding the one in one. Stick with me for a second.
The NBA are the best players in the world. The

(05:59):
best are four fifty NBA players on Earth. There's seven
billion people. There's five thousand kids that play high school
basketball in a given year. There's four hundred and fifty
NBA players. It's the best of the best, the best
of the best. So all the rules, all the rules

(06:26):
are created to emphasize that these are the best of
the best. Like the lot the lane was widened because
post players just scored too easily. By the way, that's
an adjustment you can make if if you want NBA
players to score more at the low block, put the

(06:46):
lane back to the college lane. But but the first
thing is the lane is widened to get it from
the end line to mid court. You know, if you're
pressed in the rest of basket ball, you get ten seconds.
In NBA basketball you get eight seconds. The shot clock
is twenty four seconds. The reset of the shock clock

(07:09):
is fourteen seconds. All of these rules our design three
point line is deeper than FEBA, deeper than college basketball
obviously high school basketball. Deeper line, wider lane, shorter time
to get it across mid court, shortest shot clock obviously
FEEBA is also twenty four seconds as well. Why is

(07:30):
this because you have the best players in the world,
make it the rules the hardest in the world. Why
not the one in one? Why do high school kids
shoot the one on one but the pros, the ones
that are supposed to be able to deal, that are
paid to deal with the pressure, don't don't. There should
absolutely be a one on one. And I understand that
the NBA used to have a one plus one. Did

(07:52):
you know that? I mean it used to be excuse
me three to make two. That actually used to happen.
You get three shots to make two, um, and your honest.
One of the reasons that one was called from a
lane violation because he did the ten sep more than
ten seconds tribbling the basketball that was like a minute
left to go in the game, which I agree with

(08:12):
the call. He does take way too long because he's
clearly thinking up there. But if you're going to call
the ten second violation, shouldn't you call a lane violation
when Lebron James steps in before the ball hits the
rim of the net? Of course you should anyway, Um, look,

(08:32):
the Warriors had proven to be better than the Grizzlies.
The Warriors beat the Grizzlies to get in to the playoffs,
but really they just got the eight seed in the
play in tournament and then the Grizzlies turn around and
beat the Warriors to actually get into the playoffs. What
is this emphasized and emphasized that one game in the
NBA doesn't really mean anything? Can it paint the picture

(08:54):
of what the matchups are like? Sure? But things change
from game to game. So I didn't accout over the
Clippers losing or the Lakers losing. Is it troubling that
the Clippers couldn't close. Yes. Is it troubling that Anthony
Davis felt like he was being a little soft. Yes,
But it's also reasonable to say that the Mavericks played

(09:16):
with incredible confidence and Luca found a way down the
stretch and played a little bit out of his mind
before down the stretch. And I don't think the Lakers
missed that many open threes going forward in the series.
And we've seen the Lakers drop onto Houston, drop one
to Portlands to start their series last year. Didn't affect him.
This is Paul George after the Game one loss. We

(09:37):
expect to play better, we expect to be more dialed
in Game two. We're not looking at it as just
because of who we have, we expected to win. We
got the same pressure as every team that's in this
It all comes down to who's the last team standing? UM,
And that's just the pressure every team goes through. UM
is no different than what how we're approaching this. We
want to be the last team standing, regardless of however

(09:58):
many games to take or how how tough the road is.
The fact of the matter is, man, we want to
be the last one standing. So we gotta be better
for game two, and um, you know I plan on
his team bouncing back. This is Lebron James after his loss.
It's never just one guy. Um, but I love when
a d I'll put that pressure on himself. Uh, you know,

(10:19):
we're a better team when when he's aggressive. We're a
better team when he demands the ball. And but we
all got to do our jobs a lot better as well.
By the way, that is a passive aggressive. He wasn't
demanding the ball. He wasn't being aggressive, right. Look, he's
commending Anthony Davis. I'm not trying to say there's anything sinister.
When you go like, hey, we're better when he's demanding

(10:41):
the ball, we're better when he's aggressive. That translates really
into he wasn't aggressive, he wasn't demanding the ball. He
was soft today. That's why we lost. But it's not
all about one guy. Be sure to catch the live
edition of The Doug gott Leap Show week days at
three p m. Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio, a app Doug Otlip Show

(11:01):
Fox Sports Radio. Okay, so, um, here's a question to you,
and this is all different perspectives. Okay, so Gavin is engaged,
Ramo's married a long time um with a gag little kids,

(11:22):
and Dab married with the with a kid. We've all
actually had different life experiences. Okay. There's different things like
your favorite foods. Everybody's a different favorite food, favorite taste.
Like some people like sweets, some people like sour, some
people like spicy. Ramas. Do you sweet, spicy or sour?
You know I'm not spicy. I would say sweet. I

(11:43):
just got into sour like the last two or three years,
So if I had to put him in order, i'd
say sweet, sour, spicy, sweet, So with my first we
haven't there. Yeah, that's good, good call, you know what?
Great because I do like salty as well. Yeah, like

(12:03):
French fries or chips and salt, so that that tops
chocolate cake for me. A day I have I have,
I'm gonna screenshots. I gotta find that bag. I found
this kind of chips, tortilla chips, which I never it's like,
I don't know if it's like an organic store or whatever.
And they have Emala and sea salt on them, Emily
and salt on them, pink Emily and salt and they're

(12:25):
also salty and the chips are good, and I'm like, oh,
this is the best plain dipping potato chips, dipping chips,
not to tortia chips ever, ever. Ever. I'm with you. Okay,
So if you go salty, sweet, spicy, sour in order,
go dep cars okay, salty, um sour, then spicy then

(12:47):
sweet okay, okay, um, what about you there, Mr Gavin,
I'm gonna go salty, spicy, sweet, and then sour. Okay.
I am salty sour. I don't actually really like sweet things,

(13:09):
but I like semi sweet things, right Like I like
dark chocolate, semi sweet dark chocolate more than spicy. But
I do like some spicy but spicy spicy. I'm gonna
go salty, sour, sweet than spicy. But there's a huge
drop off after sour, huge massive drop off. Okay, what's
your favorite sound? Favorite sound? Some people like, right, that's

(13:39):
the ocean crashing. I had a friend, Um, I have
a friend who played for the Angels and he signed
with the Angels and he's like, where should I live?
And I said, she's like, what is that? I go,
once in your life you should live somewhere where when
you open up your door. That's the sound you hear
just once in your life. You should do it. That

(14:00):
might be your best take ever. Agree, right, I can't
afford to do that yet, you know, it's like it's
dream of mind having like that private beach. Right, so
where I live. Like one of the things I like,
the birds tweet start tweeting every morning, right, and it
is at the lovely sound to wake up to. Um
your favorite sound, de Carson go, It's funny because I

(14:23):
same thing. My most peaceful thing is just to sit
out in the backyard and hear the birds tweet. But
but if I had the if I had the money
to do it, just because I'm having a flashback to
staying at the Peelei Kai in Maui and you wake
up and you hear the waves kind of crashing, but
you hear the wind going through the palm fronds and
kind of feel you can Almo feel like playing somewhere

(14:44):
you can't hear it. It's amazing. Yeah, Yeah, Ramo's favorite sound.
I would say for me, it's the wind rustling through trees,
you know, like the sound of just like the trees rustling. Yeah,
I did you know that the tree he's moving back
and forth. That's what makes the wind blow. Really, No,
I'm kidding. Tell it to Jonah before he goes to

(15:08):
bed and screw him up. How about you, Gavin, I'm
gonna go rain. The sound of rain on a window pane.
I love rain. I love rain is a great sound.
Wind is a great sound. Birds are a great sound.
The greatest sound on earth. Um, the giggling of a
of a little baby, right, that's the like you know,

(15:28):
they're just a belly labs. The belly giggles for no
reason at all, Like belly giggles are the greatest sound. Um,
the sound of a ball going through a net, like
the swish the truth. It's an amazing sound. But the
greatest sound in sports? Are you ready for it? Well? Look,
the second greatest sound in sports is the buzz before

(15:51):
the big moment. You know, I used to feel it
when you warm up before a big game. You feel
it when you when you are I used to remember
when I played, and I was obviously a very good passer,
not shooter, and you'd make a pass and there's like
a delay between making the pass and then the catch
of the duck a right, like it's amazing. But the

(16:13):
greatest sound is nothing, nothing on the road road win.
This is Trey Young after winning the game with a
game winning bucket in Madison Square Garden. At the end
of the day, fans can only only talk and they can't.
They can't guard me. They can't, they can't and they're
not out there playing, So for me, it's uh, it's

(16:36):
just it's just a part of the game. I'm glad
fans are back. I'm glad um and as g was
was rocking a night and uh, I'm glad everybody got
to to come in and experience experience their games back.
So it was good. Yeah, apparently they were yelling after
you the tray Young because New Yorkers are so classy.
Trey Young is and sounds twenty two years oldys like

(16:56):
twenty two Like yeah, twenty two years old, Yeah, twenty
two years old. His dad, Rayper was a tremendous player,
played Texas Tych. We played against each other. We've been
frends for a long time and um, his dad, you know,
it's like crying in the stands trade. They're very very
close and it I it's the greatest sound in sports

(17:17):
is when you win on the road in a hostile environment,
and they go from rabid and nasty too silent. And
then there's usually like every road team has like a
smattering of fans, you know, on your travel party, and
then they're usually sometimes you have fans like way up
in the worst seats. But now, because there's only thirteen

(17:38):
thousand people in MSG, there's no real travel party and
there's no real road fans. Plus it's not like the
Atlanta Hawks at basketball fans anyway, it was literally silent.
That to me. In sports, crack of the bat is big, right,
switch to the net is big. The hitting, just the
hitting of a helmet, like when you hit or I

(18:00):
used to say this, Warm Moons a friend of mine,
and I've actually seen him throw a football. The guys
that can really throw, there's a sound their ball. Max.
You know, we're like, you know, it's it's almost like
a bullet, Like I don't know that oblong football is incredible.
All those things. The greatest sound in sports is the
silence of a road win. Sounds of a road win.

(18:21):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
gott Leap Show weekdays at three pm Easter noon Pacific.
Let me welcome a man, He's Bruce Gradkowski. Of course,
uh played for a decade in the Nashta Football League.
And now if you if you want you want to
sound like a smarter football fan or or or seem
like a smart folk, pan go a pro football focus.
Of course he worked for them at b Gradkowski five. Bruce.

(18:43):
Let's let's start with Julio Jones. I don't know if
you've heard this sound okay, this was live on air
this morning on Undisputed. I don't know if he knew
he was on live TV. This is Shannon sharp Um.
He says he got a call back, but it felt
like he called. He called Julio Jones. Is the conversation?
What's going on, bron not the money to meet up

(19:04):
with my brother? Man, Look, you want to go to
the Cowboys, Julio? Or you want to stay in Atlanta? Oh? Man?
Ideally where would you like to go? Right now? I'm
just I want to win. Okay, we don't go to Dallas.
If you go, you ain't winning the Dallas, Julio. A man, listen,

(19:26):
come on, man, you already know I know, okay on
television the Dallas. You know how people live? Man with
that with the picture. Yeah, okay, Man, I ain't know
being on that, you know what I'm saying. That's good enough, Julio.

(19:47):
I'll talk to you later. Thanks for calling me back.
We all are, but I appreciate you calling me. Dolf
Um do you think you knew he was on the air? Man?
I don't know, but you he probably did. You would
have to think so. But I'll tell you what I think.
You know, Atlanta is in a tough spot. You know,

(20:07):
they got cap issues that could free some from some
cap up. But man, I just really wanted to see
Julio Jones in Atlanta with Matt Ryan and Kyle Pitts
and see how that worked out this year. Me too. Um,
So what do you do? Like, how do you how
do you take that big a cap hit and then
trade him to play somewhere else? Yeah, I mean that's tough,

(20:30):
you know, Arthur Smith. I mean, these new coaches, these
new general managers, they have stuff to handle. I mean,
and that's you know, negotiating with with players, but also
trying to manage the cap, manage the roster, manage the
free agency, the draft, and you know, also manage different personalities.
And I think it's important now in this sense. You know,

(20:54):
Julio Jones and Matt Ryan has been working together for
a long time. I think Julio Jones, with the injuries
he was balanced through last year, he wasn't as productive,
but he's still a top five receiver and I think
he still has a lot of juice left in the tank.
But at times, you know, teams, you know this is
also a point where you could still get good value from,

(21:15):
you know, training him away. And I think, just like anyone,
anything's for sale for the right price. And I think
Atlanta got to that point. And now I think it's
inevitable that we'll see Julio own a different uniform next season.
Still gotive show here on Fox Sports Radio. How much
he got left in the tank. I think he's I
think he's got some. You know, here's the thing when

(21:37):
when you especially changed teams and you get a fresh start,
you get rejuvenated. And I think Julio Jones in the
right situation, in right scenario, uh an offensive minded coach
will take care of him. And I saw with Joey
Galloway towards the end of his career when I played
with him in Tampa Bay, you know, John Gruden took
great care of him. Uh he had a really you know,

(21:58):
one work day or week during the regular season. So
I want to be surprised if the Raiders are calling
Atlanta right now and trying to make that happen. Stuck
gotlip show here on Fox Sports Trade the Raiders would
be would be fascinating, fascinating, a big, big target. And
you know, the one thing is that they have not
had in the past is cash. Now they have cash

(22:20):
because of the new stadium, because you know, of everything
kind of going into it, and it would really be
a shot in their arm to to their offense. Um. No,
Aaron Rodgers at O T A s but if he
holds out, it's ninety grand a day and it's it's
not they don't have to they have to collect on it.
They have the league actually collecting the new cb A.

(22:41):
Do you see Aaron Rodgers showing up when it matters
a training camp? You know, I don't worry about right now.
So you know, people are kind of you know, this
is going to be having microscope on it all off
season into training camp. So I'm not surprised right now.
I don't think he shows up at mini camp when
training camp has come, I think at some point he'll

(23:01):
show up. I do think it might be. You have
to remember he watched Brett Farve go through this for
a few years. I think it's something that Aaron Rodgers
might just wait and show up at the season when
he's ready to start playing. And Uh, to be honest,
I think Aaron Rodgers is just taking his career into
his own hands. Now. We've seen it from guys being
able to do that lately, and I think players have

(23:22):
the right. Uh, you know, when it comes down to
teams don't release you. The minute you're not bringing you're
you're not being productive, the minute your contract isn't guaranteed,
they're gonna release you. And I've been through it a
few times in my career, so I think it's cool
to see players take their careers in their own hands.
And I think that's what Aaron Rodgers is doing right now.
So I think it's really at the end of the day,

(23:45):
it's gonna be what Aaron Rodgers wants. I mean, I
don't think it's money playing a factor in this. I
think he just wants to win. In a sense of winning.
Between the management side of Green Bay and between himself
and he sees what Green Bay has been behind him
right now, and I think he's calling their bluff and
their hands saying, look, I know you don't have a

(24:05):
guy ready to play right now, but you know what
I don't. I don't want to be back and uh,
let's see how you could deal with it. So it's
just tough though, because Doug last year I saw Aaron
Rodgers have a phenomenal year. He was our number one
UH graded passer and he he was had our number
one passing grade of twenty plush yards down field. Of
course we all know he's the reigning m v P.

(24:27):
It looked like he was having a ton of fun.
I don't think this is anything against Matt lafore an
offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, but at some point there's just
a lack of communication that got it to this point.
And I'm not sure if Green Bay commend these senses.
But it'll be interesting to keep an eye on Doug
Olive show here on Fox Sports Radio. Is gonna be

(24:48):
fascinating to keep keep an eye on. Um. The Garoppolo
thing is interesting, Like I understand the narrative that San
Francisco is trying to put out there. It's like, I
don't know. We love Jimmy, he's just hurt all the time. Like, no,
you don't. You let him throw eight times in the
NFC Championship game and he didn't come up big. You know,
he overthrew Emmanuel Sanders where that ball has to be

(25:08):
on target or underthrown to draw p I. You know,
he missfi. He should have won the Super Bowl. He
couldn't deliver when he needs to. Is it all on him? No,
But those two things tell you all you need to
know about Garoppolo. Why do you think San Francisco is
putting out this We love him, he's just hurt too much. Well,
I think they need him this year. I think Garoppolo.
We saw his track record when he came back from

(25:29):
his torn a t o he took the nnners to
the Super Bowl and it wasn't just him. He had
a good team around him, good defense, good playmakers. So
I think this year it's gonna be interesting because I
do think Garoppolo could have a good season. I think
also that uh, they need him to in a sense,
I think Trey Lance needs some time. Um you know,

(25:50):
so I think it's the best of both worlds. You
want Garoppolo to play well to help you guys that
will help your team, and they'll help Garoppolo at the
end of the day, and Trey Lance gets to learn
from him. Um, until Trey Lance is ready to go.
But I mean, you know, it's because the injuries did
play a factor. It's not all injuries of why they
drafted Trey Lance, but that plays a major key into it.

(26:12):
And that's another situation that will be fun to watch
this season. That's that's the voice of a guy who's
actually done it. Bruce Gradkowski joining us in the Doug
Gotlip Show works for Pro Football Focus is a fantastic job.
That's all those guys do of teaching you things about
the game that you didn't know and using analytics to
to kind of back up and give you a real
look at what football looks like to the actual pros

(26:33):
and to the executives. It's a Pro Football Focus, of course.
Bruce joines just on The Doug Gotlip Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Um, okay, what do you think of Baker
Mayfield and the next contract? Right? Like, you pick up
the fifth year option and if he has a good season,
you're gonna want to resign him, but you're not gonna

(26:54):
want to give him Mahomes money or even Deshaun Watson
money or you know on these crazy how do you
if you want to get a deal done, how do
you approach the Baker Mayfield thing? Well, I mean, shoot,
those are the numbers rolling now. I mean, you're the
next quarterback to get a contract. You're getting big money.
I think now though, too, it makes sense for Baker.

(27:15):
It makes sense for the Browns to get it done early.
Baker gets you know, a big number now instead of waiting.
The Browns can get it done now instead of waiting
and having to pay more. But it's tricky, man. I
think you have to look at Mayfield in this past year.
Give a lot of credit to Kevin Stefanski coming in
no off season program, coaching through Zoom, installing an offense,

(27:39):
and from Week seven through the playoffs, Baker Mayfield was
our second highest graded passer UH through the season, so
he really turned it on. I think it's a good
team around him, So this is something you could see
for years to come. Um with Kevin Stefanski's his team,
the offense, so I think it makes sense to get
the deal with on sooner rather than later. But he

(28:02):
still has to show more consistency and I think he
can do that though under Stefanski. Doug Gotli show here
on Fox Sports Trader, Alright, what about Lamar Jackson, same question, Right,
He's had more success in the regular season and one
a playoff game and came from behind and did it.
But he does play a style which you'd think at

(28:22):
some point he's gonna get banged up, and there does
appear to beat now they've given him. He drafted another
first round so to the last three years they've they've
drafted in the first round a wide receiver. His year
they drafted first round tight end. And oh yeah, by
the way, they paid more money than anybody in the
sport for his left tackle, Ronnie Stanley, who did get hurt.
They've supported him. How would you approach resigning Lamar Jackson

(28:45):
to a long term deal? I think this is a
no brainer here. I mean Lamar Jackson when when I
watched him play, he's the most competitive dude in the NFL.
Like and yeah, Mahomes is, Brady Rogers, Wilson, they are
as well, But there's some about Lamar Jackson. I just
love watching I love watching him on the sideline. I

(29:05):
love watching him with horriball and just watching him physically play.
He's a guy that just continues to get after. I
think the big question mark is winner or one of
these young quarterbacks gonna win the next championship. We see
Patrick Mahomes have done it, Russell Wilson did it at
a young age, and now it's time for is it
Josh Allen, is Dak Prescott? Is it? Lamar Jackson is

(29:27):
a bigger mayfield? Which young superstar quarterback can separate themselves
when we talk about the next elite group of guys
and that's gonna come with the championship. I think Lamar
Jackson's close. I do think he can lead the Ravens
to a super Bowl. I think the Ravens can, you know,
continue to help him offensively by having you know, some
better pass concepts mashed up to the run game. But

(29:50):
I was doing some studying on the Ravens run game
and it's just so hard to stop the quarterback run
and what the Ravens do, so I think they continue
to use that. But also Lamar Jackson, I have to
continue to get better and be more consistent as a passer,
but at the end of the day, the dude is
one of the best competitors in the league and he's
fun to watch. Brutish, great stuff. Man. Thanks for joining us.

(30:12):
Hope you're well and will catch up very soon. Yeah. Thanks, Doug,
have a good week. YouTube. Bruce Gradkowski is awesome. B
Gradkowski five. That's his Twitter handle. We just work at
Pro Football Focus. One team got some really good news.
Find out what it is next. Be sure to catch
the live edition of The Doug god Leap Show weekdays

(30:34):
It's me three times NFL All Pro Shawn Marine and
I have a new sports podcast called The lights Out
Podcast with Shawn Marine. This podcast especial to me is
I get a chance to talk to some of the
best we've ever done it on the field or the track.
So whether it's talking to a Super Bowl champion or
a NASCAR Cup Series champion, the lights Out Podcast will
bring it to you the only way I know how to.

(30:55):
I'm giving you the best insight from the best we've
ever done it. Listen to lights Out with Shawn Mary
all the I Heart Radio app or wherever you get
your podcast. And that's the thing, is a good excuse
for not buckling up law enforcement? Right and tickets? Why
I take the risk? Do the smart things start buckling
up every day, every trip, day or night. Could get
her ticket paid for by Niza to get to the press,

(31:17):
the press, Carson what he got? All Right, We're gonna
start with DeShawn Watson. Not only is he not at
O t AS today, he won't be attending O t
S and still wants a trade. NFL Media's Tom Pellacero
says he won't attend the O t A s, still
wants to be traded, and he is denying all wrongdoing
related to recent lawsuits which have slowed the process of

(31:38):
sorting out his future, of course, but his position still
has not changed. He wants out of Houston. The problem
is there's such a disconnect there between reality. Like, dude,
you got twenty two people saying that there's some sort
of sexual harassment to sexual assault. I don't know how
anybody trades for him, like your trade for that, Well, yeah,

(32:00):
you don't know. A. Is he going to be available?
B is he going to be you know, suspended? Is
he going to be in jail or prison, potentially. I
don't know where he's going to be so alright, moving on,
Derwin James has been cleared for full participation. Coach Brandon
Staley says, I think he's ready to play, and what
we've tried to do is create a really sound approach
for his comeback, and today was a big step for him.

(32:22):
He was Yeah, he was cleared for full participation. Has
said a tremendous offseason, looks great and is looking forward
to a lot more with a growing Andrew who has
ever not had a great off season. I had a
great No was ever like man, he had terrible offseason.
He came in, he looks terrible shape. Um, he picked

(32:43):
up some the habit of smoking right than he should know.
There is every once in a while the guy who
comes in, you know, twenty pounds heavier and people like
dude to lay off the orioles. Dude, right, Sehn Kemp.
There's a bunch of guys during the lock of thest
NBA lockout that was bad, ruined their career Sean Kemp. Uh,

(33:03):
those guys are bad. Ye get you out of the
routine all right. Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell was incensed after
being held out of the playoff opener. He was upset
because you know, of course, he had tweeted that he
had planned to play in Sunday's Game one against the Grizzlies.
Utah's decision reportedly deep intentions when Mitchell regarded regarding with

(33:26):
written with Mitchell regarding his recovery from his right angle sprain.
And there is now an addendum to this, of course,
the team is now saying he will be playing in
game two. Yeah, the problem with it is and like
probably it's like you got to manage it when you're
a team and understand that what happens with a lot
of injuries is one thing. You end up running differently

(33:48):
and moving differently, and that's when you know, that's when
an injury becomes even worse. Right, So I don't always
side with the team, but I do understand it all right. Uh.
The NFL's Daily Transaction Report, by the Way, brings word
that the Falcons have signed receiver Taj Sharp. Sharp spent

(34:09):
most of the last season with the Vikings, landed on
the Chiefs practice squad after being released in December. Of course,
this ties in with today's news that Julio Jones and
Shannon Sharp brought us during FS one's disputed with Skip,
and Shannon confirmed he wants out of Atlanta. I don't
think that's a that's a replacement, but they are going
to need bodies. That's a great name though, but yes, exactly. Uh.

(34:35):
Staying with the NFL, UH, The league is investigating alleged
comments made to former Eagles and Chiefs assistant offensive line
coach Eugene Chung during an interview he had with another
franchise he did not get the job. Chung, of Asian
American descent, claims he was informed he was quote not
the right minority end quote. Uh. I don't think it's

(34:58):
a I mean, if somebody said that one, they're gonna
lose their job, and to like, I think there's a
certain reality to it, right, which is it's one of
those things that you're like, wait, there's lots of minorities
in the NFL. They're getting opportunities. It's not there shouldn't
just be doors opened for black men or for women.

(35:19):
It should be for diversity means just that. And it's
going to be fascinating to see how this plays out,
because now if if it was actually said it's probably
being repeated somewhere else, and it might have been a
matter of fact, like, look that we want to hire you,
but you're the wrong minority. But you can't say that
anymore though, I mean you can't. You shouldn't say it anyway.

(35:40):
You somebody should get the job because they're good for
the job. That it shouldn't matter, correct, But there's the
reality of the the paucity of of black executives and
black coaches. And now there's also there's a push to
hire women like you know, there are other qualified. Look,
there's qualified white dudes are like, Look, I've been in
this for a long time. I played, you know. I

(36:02):
mean remember when when, um, when Steve Nash got the job,
people question that because he's white. Like, look, Steve Nash
just fits the bill of so many other former players
who have gotten jobs despite not having head coaching experience exactly.
All right, Well, let's stay with the NFL. The Athletic
was the first to report this. The NBA UH says

(36:24):
all teams and league personnel must be fully vaccinated in
order to attend next month's NBA Draft combine in Chicago.
They are making exceptions, the only ones, though are folks
with medical or religious reasons not to be vaccinated. That's smart.
This is what leagues are going to have to do
heading forward. And it's Look, there are people have been

(36:45):
critical of me on social media when I said that
Lebron James should if he's vaccinated, he should share that
with the world. He should, And I get people like,
who listens to Lebron James. If one person listens to
Lebron James, who needs to be vaccinated as like as
a billionaire black athlete who is wildly revered for the

(37:08):
things he does off the court for the betterment of
people who he's close to, a betterment of kids. This
it's a good thing. Um. But yeah, I think leagues
are going to have to continue to find ways to
without forcing people force people to get a vaccine. Agreed. Uh,
And we're going to wrap up on on this one.
It's a college hoops or former college hoops player, obviously,

(37:31):
Michigan State basketball player Keith Appling has been arrested in
connection to the shooting death of a sixty six year
old man in Detroit this past weekend. Obviously, this is
still developing, but police say Appling and the man got
into an argument Saturday evening that escalated into a physical fight.
Appling is accused of firing several shots, fatally wounding the
man and driving away from the scene, and troopers did

(37:54):
recover a firearm during the arrest. According to state police,
m hmm, well, Keith having he had a gun charge before,
He's had some other drug stuff with he got probation
for having heroin. Um, yeah, I mean there's there's a
dude that's he has I'm not I'm not sure he's

(38:15):
the guy you want representing Michigan State. A very very
proud program backing out there and pressed that the press.
That's crazy. It's crazy because Tom has absolutely does it
the right way, and there are always gonna be guys
they don't do it the right way. There's no such
thing as a good excuse for not buckling up law enforcement,
writing tickets. Why I take the risk? Do the smart thing?
Start buckling up every trip, day or night. Click it

(38:35):
or ticket paid for by Nizza heat Bucks Game two
Bucks have a one game and unlead massive game for
the Bucks. Put him down to oh and put this
series close to out of reach. Blazers Nuggets. Blazers have
been favored in the series. I think they win tonight.
I think both teams go up to to Chris bousharton
Ben Bowling tomorrow. I'm Doug Gottlieb. This is my show.
