Speaker 1 (00:00):
What up with you? Not gotta leave show? Fox Sports Radio.
I hope you are having a great day. Mm hmmmmmmmm um.
I'll get to trade young in a second. I'm gonna
play for you something Jalen Rose said on his show,
and I want to make sure this is clear. Okay,
(00:23):
I do not believe nor I Jalen Rose should not
be fired for his comments. Hey, he should not be
fired first comments, Um, not at all. I think his
comments actually come from a place of hey, dude, I
know basketball, and we know how it it always used
(00:44):
to work. And that's kind of what he's getting at.
The flaw in there's a bunch of flaws in what
Jalen said. And I'll get to it in a moment. Okay,
I'll get to a moment. But but but here, here's
what's really important. I don't think Jalen should be fired
for what a comment that could be very easily construed
(01:06):
as racist in nature. Okay, racial profiling or whatever, racially discriminatory,
whatever you want to say, I don't think you should
be fired. But I also don't think that everybody else
should have been fired for any of their comments which
were deemed racial nature. How they just fired a coach
in uh Coronado High School in San Diego. Do you
(01:31):
guys see this incident? It's a disgrace. Um. Was it
Orange Glen or Coronado that has the mostly Hispanic team?
Didn't you know the story story? Guys, I don't do
not is this? Yeah? So Orange Glen is a is
an Escondido, which is a really nice area down in
(01:54):
San Diego, but it's in its particular school district. It
is a uh mostly Hispanic Latino Mexican uh um school
district right, so high percentage of Hispanics. It's also, by
the way, California Distinguished School. It's a good got a
good basketball program. So they're playing in the state basketball
(02:17):
tournament and um uh they played against Coronado and at
the end of the game, when they're shaking hands, a
Coronado High School alum had brought tortillas to the game
and then flung them at Orange Glen tortillas. The now
(02:38):
they do this at Texas Tech, okay, but they do
it to everybody at Texas Tech. This one was Coronado,
not a bunch of Mexican kids planning Mexican kids and
throwing tortillas at him. It's cruel, it's gross, it's disgraceful.
I don't know why the Coronado High School culture was
fired when he had nothing to do with it, but
(03:01):
I guess when you search around for somebody to blame.
I don't know how he handled it afterwards, but that's
you know, that's what happened in that disgraceful incident. Okay,
that is something that somebody should and I don't think
he should lost his job, but if there's anybody affiliated
with the school, like you should lose your job over it.
(03:22):
So we have we do have real racially divisive issues
that come up, but we need to learn from them. Okay,
this is Jail and Rose on his radio show or
podcast earlier. Kevin Love is on the team because of tokenism.
Don't be scared to make an all black team representing
(03:43):
the United States of America. I'm disappointed by that. Anybody
that watched the league this year knows Kevin Love did
not have a sellar season, was not the best player
on his team. It did not necessarily deserve to be
on this squad, we said, did not nest necessarily deserved
to be on the squad, And it's tokenism. So what
are you saying, is like, Look, they don't want to
(04:04):
send all black teams, so they picked the best white
guy that had and they took Kevin Love. Kevin Love
obviously has been dealing with mental health issues. He also
has been super super unhappy playing on a terrible team.
I mean, he's on a terrible basketball team. Kevin Love
is a longtime NBA vet um, going back four years ago,
(04:28):
and I believe that was that was with Lebron. He
shot forty one and a half percent from three. There
have been years in which he was a walking double double.
This is the first year in which there was a
tremendous fall off. He didn't have particularly good year. None
of what Jalen said is inact is inaccurate, right, But
I do think that Jalen what, Look, it's a topic,
(04:51):
it's a thought, right, Like I was the coach's son
when my dad was an AU coach. It's really hard
to be the coach's son because you've gotta be one
and a half times better than everybody in practice, any
better than people win games, because not people like man
the coach's son. That's why he's playing, Like I get it.
(05:12):
When you're the white guy, I get it. Look, if
you think that racial stereotypes only were only are negative
towards Black people, like you're not paying attention and none
of it bothers none. If I walk into a gym,
If I walk into a gym, right, walk into a gym,
everybody's gonna say, shooter her. You don't know me, you'll
(05:34):
go shoot her, get up on him. If if you're
a white player in the NBA and you get on
a wing, you're gonna get isoed to death. You're gonna
have to prove above it that of any other young
player that you can guard somebody. They're gonna torch you
(05:55):
no matter what your skin color is. They could come
at you when you're young, no matter what your skin colors.
But the assumption a stereotype, the racial profiling is you're
not as quick, you're not as athletic. You're probably only
there because you're the token white guy. That's which that's
the thought. Jalen is not expressing anything which other people
don't feel. I would love to hear Jalen Rose. Let's
(06:17):
ask him about why is there now a female assistant
on just about every NBA bench? What is that? Jalen Oh,
and though that's that's a third rail topic. Right for
Jalen Rose, who covers and played in the NBA, if
he were to say, look, the NBA really wants a
(06:38):
female coach on every bench. And the hard part is,
like those guys don't want to play for Becky Hammond.
Some do, some don't care. They're like, I don't you
know good coaches? There's a there's there are plenty of
players are like, look, I want to play for somebody
I respect something, and I will they will. You will
(06:59):
struggle take orders and you You'll have people who are
writers are like, well, you know a woman in your life?
Is like, that sounds great. Guys have never been coached
by a woman. There there's going to be people that
struggle with that. It's gonna happen and they're gonna have
to deal with it. I can tell you that without knowing.
There's no league memo, but there is. There is a
push to have a woman on every staff. And that's
(07:24):
a hard one. So it's it's difficult for some guys
to accept, not because their male chauvinist pigs, but just
because like that's just not how they they want. NBA
players believe they run the league. Adam Silver has done
nothing to dial that back zero. He has never ever
(07:46):
tried to enact anything to make NBA fueler. NBA players
feel anything less than entitled to give and share their
opinion and make it their league. And what they want
is the email Eudocus of the world or a Steve Nash.
(08:07):
They want a guy who's done what they're doing, understands
what they've done. And look, I mean, she's a woman
who's she was super talented. She had to go prove
herself playing in Russia as she played for the Russian
national team. She came over Stateside, was a hell of
a w NBA player, as you know. She did get
the benefit of getting a chance very early on to
(08:28):
coach summer league and did well with the Spurs, and
she's trying to work her way through it much the
way you mean Yudoka did as well. But because she's
a woman, there's the there's gonna be guys like that,
there's a feeling of tokenism. But he would never mention
that because there's never any pushback. There's never any pushback
(08:50):
if you say something about the white male and that's okay,
that's okay, that's just the way it's it's it's always
been and probably will continue to be, right. I mean,
there's the Kevin Herder, who of course is playing for
the Atlanta Hawks. He had the great Game seven, and
(09:13):
there you look on social media there dudes clowning Kevin
Herder about his lack of swagging comparison to to Tray Young,
which I mean, it's racial and nature, but it's like
it's not because it's basketball and we're all in on
(09:33):
it and get it, not our heads. So why can't
that work both ways? So I guess what I'm saying
is instead of thinking about firing Jalen Rose for what
he said, which is an absolute topic of discussion, Like
I I believe that that the reason that Kevin Love
is on Team USA is he's the old head, He's
the shooting big. He actually more resembles what what European
(09:58):
big guys, what FEEBA big guy look like more so
than anybody else. If you actually look through go ahead
and look at the NBA, do you realize that? And
I don't know, I haven't checked this year. Brook Lopez,
I think, is the only American born NBA starting center
in the playoffs, right, like they're just not a lot
of guys that exist. And so are you gonna take
(10:22):
Brook Lopez or are you gonna take Kevin Love? No doubt,
Kevin Love is a shell of the player he used
to be. But he's still six eight to fifty and
can shoot threes. And and you know what, at this
point in his career, at thirty two years old, when
you've lost as much as he's lost the last three years,
he'll be like, look, man, I'll just I'm happy to
wave a tow and be a winner. And because he
(10:45):
spent time with Team USA in the past, it shows
that they thought he was a heck of a guy.
He was a good guy. We're gonna We're gonna put him.
He'll be the twelfth man on this team. And he
won't say anybody's ever put together a team knows you
don't always pick the best guy. That's not how you
build a team. That's how USA basketball got screwed up
to begin with. Yes, isn't that wasn't that one of
(11:11):
not not about the racial part of it. But I
wasn't not one of the topics of the of the
dream team. Wasn't the Christian Latener, right, wasn't that like, yeah,
but there are the white guys. Yeah, that's why I
said it wasn't racial. But the same thing that you're
talking about, like it's always the best player, it's more
of like it's a team concept type of deal. Right. Well,
later was there because here here's what happened up until
(11:35):
the Dream Team, we sent college kids. Okay, up until
the Dream Team, we sent college kids in eighty four.
In eighty four, Bob Knight picked the team. Okay, and
they won. But remember if you remember and I went
(11:55):
and saw this team play um in in at the
l A sports trainer, Michael Jordan was incredible, And that
was when people started realize how good he was. They
had Michael Jordan's, they had Pat Ewing, they had Chris Mullen,
Alvin Robertson, the late Great Waymon Tisdale, who is as
good at college players you've ever seen. And then they
(12:16):
had like Steve all For, Joe Klein, John Konkac, Jeff Turner,
Leon Wood, cal State Fortune is now ref in the NBA, right,
Vern Fleming and all these other guys. The guys they
missed on, they missed on Stockton Mark Price. Um, what was,
Uh god, what was the buyer? You can help me,
(12:41):
uh Wisconsin maybe Stevens point point reporter Terry porter was
Charles Barkley tried out for that team. They missed him.
There was a bunch of guys. There was a very
controversial that Bob Knight got to pick who he wanted
and he took Steve Alford who was just a freshman Indiana. Right.
So in n John Thompson, the late great John Thompson
(13:06):
was was the coach. So in they went to Soul,
South Korea. Right, and they got beat by I think
the Yugoslavian team, right or no, they get beat by
the Rush I'm trying to think they got beat by.
They got beat the Soviet Union beat them two seventy six.
That that's why we got out of it. Why we
(13:29):
would put the pros in there, because the Russians had
the Lithuanians. Remember Lithuania was part of Russia then, so
they had like sharonas Marshalonis, they had our Venus Sabonis.
These are Lithuanians, but back then it was all under
the Soviet Union. And and they beat our college. And
now we only got beat by six points, but they
(13:49):
didn't reach the gold medal for the first time ever,
and so it was seen as such an embarrassment. Instead
of fixing it and picking a better team and coaching better,
were like, let's just picked the pros and kick everybody's ass.
Now they had Dan Marley, David Robinson, Mitch Richmond. But
what had happened was, uh, most people believe that John Thompson,
(14:12):
he was the coach of George Towney took Charles Smith
is a little six ft one und fifty point guard.
He did. He was too small to play against the
Russian guards and Bimbo Coles too small to play. And
we didn't have enough shooting. We didn't have shooting big guys.
You know, we had David Robinson, and we struggled to
adjust to form basket. But so instead of trying to
get better, we're like, let's just, uh, let's just put
(14:36):
the pros out there. And to appease the college basketball
coaches that had put all that time into USA basketball,
They're like, they did have a token, but it was
a token college guy, and it was Christian Lightner. Christian
Lightner had about as good a college career as anybody's
ever had in human existence. Right, He went to I
(14:58):
think four final four, He went back to back national
championships and he was the player of the year. So
he was a decorated and oh yeah, by the way,
as a shooter, he could definitely play in that style
of basketball. So, um, anyway, does that answer your question? Ramos?
(15:21):
It does, yes, Buyer, Uh what do you think? Well,
I I don't. I don't even know if Kevin Love
makes the team, if everybody commits, you know, I don't.
The point being is I mean, I don't think that
that was what team us say was looking for. You know,
(15:41):
like if if everybody committed to play on the team, Lebron,
Anthony Davis, Steph Curry, you know, do they get down
to the names where we're just wondering if you know
they're they invited because they knew he was gonna show up?
Is that what you're saying? Well, I'm just I'm just saying, like,
is this the argument that we're gonna make when when
if everybody was available with Kevin, Like, if everybody was available,
(16:05):
Lebron wouldeam correct, And that's like the point of it, Like,
you know, there there's about ten or fifteen guys that
are saying thanks, but no thanks. So now you're trying
to fill out a team, figure out different ways. And
Kevin Love happened to be one of the guys to
make it, you know, but he wouldn't have made it
if everybody would have just committed to the team. So
I just I just want to point out that ESPN
(16:27):
studio crew is Jalen Rose just said this Jay Will
who had his own first, he had up back and
forth with Kevin Durant where he Kevin durandt said he
made something up, and then he had his deal on
Twitter yesterday and then their host didn't vote for Anthony
Davis on first team for a second or third team
(16:47):
all NBA. That's their studio crew, by the way. And
it takes me like a Twitter code that I have
to type into my account. I don't know if you
have to do that as well, Doug, but I get that.
I didn't think it was as simple as changing a
password to I know. I just I know j well enough.
(17:07):
I mean, I think he pretty obviously made a mistake
and it happens and like it's I don't, I don't know,
I don't. I honestly think it's a lot like the UM,
what's name Taylor? Who's our host? Um, what's what's her name? Uh? No,
her host is Maria Maria Taylor. Like I think Maria
(17:30):
Taylor didn't put Anthony Davis on first, second, or third
team on NBA because somebody probably slid a piece of paper. Infirmers, Hey,
we need to fill this out, and she's doing a
million things and you just forget a name, Like I've
done that before when I worked there, and they're like, hey,
we need your we need your four one seeds, and
we need your top twenty five. And you do a
top twenty five and you don't double check it and
(17:51):
you just kind of send it in and you're like,
you know you left Duke guy like, oh, can I
get that back? Like, nn, I don't worry about it.
Who will notice? So I may notice this? The difference
is for all NBA. It actually affects that some of
these duds ability um to get a Supermax contract. That's
an oops oops. Be sure to catch the live edition
(18:11):
of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m.
Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio app Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio,
the voice of the great Dan Buyer. Let's uh, let's
continue kind of some of this basketball conversation with Eddie
House who joins us. Of course. One NBA championship with Lebron. Um. Okay,
(18:35):
let me ask you first about this. Was Steve Kerr
talking about one of his former players, Kevin Durant on
NBC Sports Bay Area. You played with Michael Jordan's and
I think he's more gifted. I really do. I mean
that's saying something, but Kevin is a different, entirely different breed.
(18:56):
I mean, six eleven with guard skills, unlimited three point range, passing,
shot blocking at the rim. It's just stunning. And watching
him this year was really really gratifying to see. Um,
what what do you think of his commons? Well, let
me let me tell you this. First, I didn't win
(19:18):
a championship with Ron, lost one with our won one
with Boston. With Boston. It's all good, No problem, man,
no problem. But um, I wish I won one. Would
even that to have be two instead of one. But um,
I hear what he's says. Uh, I definitely if you
look at what Kevin Durant is right, we've never seen
something like that before. Um, at this high level, just
(19:39):
able to do these things. I could agree on this
point that we've never seen it. That he is more gifted,
you know, and having hype is a gift. Okay, So
he's more gifted in that area. Being able to shoot
the ball better than Michael, I believe from distance. Um,
And then I said that Michael couldn't do it at
this time, but he's just didn't do it over his career. Gifted,
(20:03):
So I can't agree with him on those things. As
far as better overall player, um, uh, better than m
Come on that he's never better than m J, you know,
I mean he's I don't think that he's even got
past Lebron yet, and Leron is still chased the MJ.
So those to me, that's that's different. But most gifted,
I definitely understand why you can say that. Yeah, I
(20:24):
agree that that that she's he said specifically most more gifted.
He did not say a better basketball player, no doubt,
no doubt. I mean, think about his gifts, that he
has able to handle the basketball at that size. Most
guys when they're that side there and while they're growing up,
you know, he still was coming up in the age
of you know, in uh two thousands and things like
(20:44):
that's where if you had that size, they were putting
you on the block. He kind of broke the mold
with that with his with his gifts. So uh yeah,
I'm rolling with that that he's that. I could say
that he's more gifted than Mike, but better basketball player,
better killer, better winner. No Andy Alice joining us? How
is doing this? Oh who hoo hoo. I mean, you
(21:07):
know what they you know, size, everybody wants size, but
speed kills, you know. And I think that he has
the unique ability to just manipulate any situation. I think
the thing with Trey Young is he can shoot the
ball at a high clip. And he knocked shot down
from so far away, so now you have to pick
him up. And if you watch the game yesterday you've
(21:28):
seen it was especially one where he should me portis
look how far off these guys are playing in the
picking roll. So if you can just have your teammates
just get a little bit of body on your defender
as you're coming off that pick, you're gonna get a
wide open shot. You're gonna get a clean look at
the basket. And because he can stress the floor and
you gotta pick him up as soon as he crossed
(21:49):
half court. Is very similar to what Devin Booker was
doing in game one of the Clippers game when he
was coming downhill. It was high picking rolls. The big
were sagging so much that once he got the big
on his heels, he didn't have to worry about it.
He don't have to worry about the guard. He just
takes a peek back, make sure he creates face for
that and gets this shout off. So I think it's
(22:10):
it's part coverage and and I think that Trey Young
is an exceptional talent, and I'm happy to see him
out there balling the way he is, putting his team
on his back, because a lot of times we think
about Allen Iverson. You know, to me, that's how he is.
You know, a smaller guy that gets in the paint,
but he doesn't fall. You know, Iverston was on the
(22:30):
floor a lot, getting hit a lot. He doesn't get
hit like that. He has his slower games. And I
think if you know, they believe, and belief is a
huge thing, and in all of sports, if you believe,
you know, you can't achieve. Man and I think that
they have the belief that they can beat anybody. Stull
Golip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. What about Milwaukee.
(22:52):
Now there's a ton of pressure on them heading forward
in the game too. What can they do to adjust
to kind of try and contain him. I think you
have you gotta on the pick and roll. You can't
allow him to have any space. I think you have
if you're not trapping him, to make him get off
the ball and make somebody else be a facilitator or
a score. I think you have to uh strong show
(23:15):
you know, you have to show strong to where you
stay on there to the guard is able to get
back in front of you and then you get away.
You can't allow him to have any angles, any gaps.
You can't allow him to see uh passing lanes because
he's a superb pass I think we all get trapped
in how he can score the basketball. But a lot
of people forget that he led the nation and not
(23:35):
only in scoring, but he let the nation and assist, which, Doug,
you know that's pretty hard to do. Um, you know,
doing both of them? Uh let doing one of them,
let along both of them. I think you have to
mix it up. I think you have to mix it
up with him. I don't think you can. Well. When
you've got guys that are that good, especially in the
pick and roll, you can't feed them a steady diet
(23:56):
of the same thing if you continue to show them
the same Look. Trust me, they've been at home the
night before, like, oh, I can't believe that they're showing
doing the same thing and they've already dissected it. You
gotta keep them off balance. You gotta put them on
the hills and make them react to what you're doing.
Eddie House, NBA champion joining Ust got let show here
on Fox Sports Radio. Um, alright, let's let's start with
(24:16):
the end of the game, and then we'll talk kind
of bigger topics. If if what did the Clippers do
wrong defensively? I just, uh, I don't know, it's hard.
It's hard, I think communicating. If you look at Pat
Beth where he was at, he could have probably put
a body on DeAndre Aden. That's a cross court pass
that I think that he can get out to if
(24:37):
it's a pass in the corner to Michael Bridges. I
also think that Boogie Cousins, instead of continue to protect
the basket side just gave an angle, you know, and
that's all it took. But besides what they did wrong,
let's talk about what the Phoenix Suns did right. Great
screen buy Booker, great timing on the past by Crowder,
(24:58):
pass almost hit the backboard, and just a great finish
by DeAndre Amans. So it's more so I think you
we we always hear this, You've got good defense, but
better offense beat good defense or great defense. You know,
you got beat by better offense. And I think that
at that particular time, the Sun executed perfectly. I don't
think that you could ask for anything else to happen
(25:19):
for them in that situation. If anything goes wrong, deflection
or tip anything, or or just somebody there to make
the past go in a different a different trajectory or
a different angle. We're not talking about the Sun's winning.
But you got to give them all the all the
props because they executed. And at the end of the game,
(25:40):
that's when we all talk about when you're trying to
win a championship is late game execution, side out of bounds,
basedline out of bounds, wherever it is out of bounds,
you had to execute, and they did. Still got lip
show here on Fox Sports Trade. That's the voice of
of Eddie House. Um, okay, what about Paul George. He did.
Look he played all and carried them down the stretch.
(26:01):
But then you're up one, you call for the ball
and look, he didn't choke him right. It wasn't like
he was super short or super long, or left or right.
But in and out the first one along the second one.
As a guy who's been in those situations, how would
you contextualize how big those miss free throws were for
somebody who hasn't been in those situations. Well, you hate
(26:22):
to say that it costs you the game, but in actuality,
it costs you the game. You know, you gotta step
up there and make your free throws. I think, uh
for me, and it just you know, some people are different.
I think he's a great free throw shooter though, you
know he's in the high eighties, so you expect him
to go up there and make him He made two earlier,
you know, the previous trip to the line that he
had he had made those two. Um that he did
(26:44):
hit the rim a little bit, they rather around, they
didn't go through clean. But still you as a competitor
that you want to be in those moments, um and
and that's the fruit, the easiest shot that you're gonna
get besides the layoup uh, a wide open lay up
which people rarely get in the game of basketball. Okay,
So when you're at the free throwing, I just gotta
(27:05):
knock them down. I think he got. He has to
take a look at himself and say, hey, that cost
him the game. And when you are the franchise player
or one of the franchise um, the faces of the franchise,
you gotta take Onwners on that. And I expect he
gotta have a bounce back game tonight. It has to
be a statement game for him tonight. You can't go down.
Oh three is over with um. It still doesn't look
good the way the Sun has been playing. Even if
(27:27):
you win tonight, you know, you have to make sure
you take care of home courts. Turn into a three
game series. Going back to Team Eddie House joining us
on the Dug Outlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Can the Clippers recover without Kawhi Leonard and now the
Son's riding Chris Paul? Well, I think this adding Chris
Paul is the greatest Christian. This is gonna sound crazy,
(27:49):
but if you watch the game, you you you, and
then when I tell you, you'll understand what I'm saying,
what you're gonna say. Campaign gets to the basket man,
Chris Paul doesn't get to the bath. It like that
Chris Paul works in that mid range area and he's
taking a jump shot. Campaign has been coming off these
screens and putting pressure on the back end. And I
don't think that the Clippers have back in defense, Like
(28:11):
no Surgeon Baca, Surgeon Baka, I mean first Surgeon Baca
out for the year. Sergeon Baca would have been guarding
Deandreton and that in that last play, and Sergeion Baca
be at the rim. They don't have any rent protection. Yeah,
and and not at all. And I think that Campaign
puts more pressure on the rim than Chris Paul does.
But I think just because Chris Paul is such a
great basketball player and and uh, it could screw him up,
(28:35):
though it could, it could strew them up a little bit.
I think it because what I think it will do
is slow their pace down a little bit. I think
it slows their pace down. But does that help or
hurt the sons. I think, well, you have Chris Paul,
he knows what he's doing. You're not slowing the pace
down and not getting a good shot. You're gonna get
a good shot with him out there. It's just to me,
(28:55):
the game is a little faster um when Campaign is
out there and when he's putting pressure on the rim
um in those situations, because you end up what happened.
The guys are coming late for the health and Deandrean
is getting uh dumps, Guys are getting kicked out passes
kicked out to him for wide open shops because rotations
are late. We all know, man that the most important
thing is you gotta get get those paint touches, and
(29:18):
and Campaign definitely gets those paint touches for that man.
And I think he's a remarkable story. You know, by
the way, and you know to never give up on
your stuff and keep pushing. And he's definitely been balling
out for him and has been a huge piece of
this run that they've been that they've been having. And
he can imagine how when you would average if you
had that set up the tree, young Scott right like, Hey,
(29:38):
we're just gonna put a ball screen up there unless
you go and let you go and hoop. Hey, now,
I'll go crazy if I tried to imagine that right now, man,
I said, I tried to just enjoy go crazy right now. Um.
Jalen Rose says that Kevin Love is only on the
US Olympic team because he's a white dude, right, token
white guy. Um, I mean it looks Kevin and he
(30:00):
made some good points. Kevin didn't have a good year,
was the best player on his team. But I also
think there's a he's played for USA Basketball for you know,
there's not a lot of there's not a lot of
big dudes, period, and you need big dudes that can shoot.
But is that do you believe that's an opinion that
shared by NBA players? I think it is. I think
it's an a because it goes to, like what you
(30:21):
just said, he wasn't even the best player on this team,
and there's other guys that maybe weren't their best player.
But we're better than him, had a better year, were
better served to get a call. Now. Um, you know
that's Jalen Rohose's opinion. Uh, I don't think that Kevin
Love did anything this year or even the year before
to Warrant being a guy that gets called up, but hey,
(30:43):
uh call, get gets that call. But you know what,
more more power to him and and and credit to
him for getting that call and taking and going to
represent the country, because, believe me, that's a special honor
to be having. And so not to knock that at all.
But at the same time, where there more deserving players
out there? I mean, Doug, you know, hell yeah, it
(31:04):
was without a doubt. Yeah, look I have I'm not
gonna sit here in Tony that team USA basketball is political, right,
of course it is. It's always been political. I would.
I don't think it's about him. I don't think anybody said,
oh wait, we need a white guy, we need a
white You got a white guy. We got give Kevin Love,
we got Kevin Herder. Do you have anybody not named Kevin?
We need you right? Like, No, I think it's they
(31:28):
needed a big guy who could shoot. He's played for
him before. I think there's some cred there. He's gonna
show up some of these other guys. Like, I don't
know if I want to do it. I don't want
to do it. I'm not I'm not I'm not saying
it's not political, but I think it could be political
and also not be about the color of his skin, right,
like like like Julia Julie Randall had a better Julius
(31:50):
Rando had a better year. Not right, he has he
has cash set just with being a championship and like
you said, being uh involved with USA basketball, he does
have cash. So with that being said, yeah, but you
just named the player, and I mean, I think we
could probably lame him a long list of players that
we could that that are are big guys that can
stretch the floor and knock shots down that could be
(32:13):
in his place. But at the same time that that's
not the case. And you you respect the fact that
it's almost like, um, you know, you have that one
player on that team that really doesn't belong to be
on that All Star team, but he's there because he
has cash, a and and and I can see why
that happened, but also can see Jalen's angle to where
he says, hey, man, you know there's a lot of
(32:34):
players that were that busted there but all year, even
last year, that have better game, that has better seasons
that um or or much better players at this particular
point than Kevin Love is that should have got the nod,
which can raise an eyebrow and make you think that.
So I don't think that. I don't think Jalen is
wrong for having his belief at all, because he has
(32:57):
valid point and he could back that up. But at
the same time, I do understand USA basketball. Hey man,
they got cash he has he does have cash, a
awesome stuff and he's great discussion. It's the one more
people should be having, just open honest, two guys who
who who have perspectives on it. Thanks so much for

Doug Gottlieb Schell Fox Sports Radio. I want to get
more into this Kevin Love thing in a second. First,
let's get to the press. The press got Dougson news
(34:04):
from the NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers won't be able to
hold their training camp with fans at St. Vincent College
in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, as their plan to do so was
not approved by the NFL. Instead, they'll just have it
at their team facilities and also have some practices at
Heinz Field where fans can attend. Some fans can attend
at some point. But the NFL not allowing the Steelers
(34:25):
to go to one of the traditional training camp sites
this summer. Yes, yes, I don't know if it was
the plan with fans or what was happening, but they
just yeah, it was not approved by the NFL, though
they said they'll be back in two in the trobe
a lot of a lot of teams going to their homes,
you know, to facilities to practice. Dealers still one of
(34:47):
those that that went off site, but they're not going
to be able to do it this year. That is uh,
that's super interesting right that here they are here, they
are as a as a team. That's that's backstage. Try
to do it the right way and go back to
business as usual in the NFL's not going to allow it.
I don't I'm not sure I understand it. But yeah,
(35:10):
I think it may be more of the logistics with
the fans and how they were going to do it.
That's just why does I don't understand why that, Matt,
if we're going back to full stadiums, Like, what does it?
What does it matter? I'm not sure. I know it sucks.
I saw the letter, the open letter right from and
I you know that obviously. You know it's one of
those things where you you do kind of take it
for granted. UM, I do wonder, you know how many
(35:32):
of these sites will get teams back on on campus,
if you will, because they have all these NFL teams
have great facilities now and I'm not sure how much
it's needed to go off site. I want to leave
you some time at the end of to talk what
you gotta talk about. But one other thing Yankees played today,
swung on that balls high. That is fucks gone. It's
(35:58):
a three run home on for Gary Sanchez, head of
the visitors, Bullpen and Love Center. Jeez, you didn't get
anything from John sterling of he offered nothing. Yanked out
who knows Yankees win eight one of the Yankees radio network.
(36:19):
That's the press backing out there and pressed. That was
the press Doug Gottlip Show on Fox Sport Traite. Look,
I actually believe that a good portion of the reason
that Kevin Love is on t m USA is political,
But I don't think it has anything with him doing
with him being white. Like Kevin Love has been the
spokesperson for mental healthcare in the NBA and in professional sports.
(36:42):
I think that's a portion of it. I think the
fact that he played previously for USA Basketball, granted it
was nine years ago. He's a shell of that player.
I think that's a portion of it. Um. I think
that's about, you know, relationships and brand building and whatever.
And I think the fact that other guys canceled and
Kevin lovell just show up and do his job and
if he doesn't play, he doesn't play. And I'm sure
(37:02):
that's part of the conversation. I just I don't believe
for a second that a guy showed up. But I
also don't think while I don't agree with you like
Jalen Rose, his whole statement was, you can't throw all
black team USA out there. Like the last time I
went to Olympics, they were all black. Why would that
hold anybody back? There is no pushback, then, order would
there be any pushback? Now that's the world we live in. UM.
