(00:28):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I hope you're having
a great day. The Doug Gotlap Show was broadcasting live
from sunny southern California, where we just got a new
mask mandate. Right now, if you've had a big event
of over ten thousand people outdoors, regardless of vaccination, you
gotta wear your masks. Is that right? All right? I'll
(00:51):
be one one of those guys who was like, masks
are done. Uh, first day of school, you got that
new mask look, all right? Nothing like the first day
of school. My kids first day of schools next week
they will have the new mask look going right. All right? Hey,
whatever that is. Uh, there's a lot to get to here.
(01:14):
In sports, we have a new contract for Jamal Adams.
We have a new contract for Joel embiid. We got
a Naomi Osaka story, Brett Farve saying there's good information
on both sides of the vaccines, which were like, huh, okay,
we got a lot to get to. I do want
(01:36):
to start with with Tebow and I'll just say this
and we'll we'll circle back around to it, like people
doing a victory dance over a guy getting cut in
the first cuts the Jaguars, like, what's wrong with you?
Was was? What's wrong with you? Seriously? What's wrong with you?
(02:00):
You know? I called it. Tim Tebow wasn't gonna make
it like everybody called it. No one thought it would.
I mean there's some there's a couple of people that
were all in, you know, somehow he'd find a way
to make it work. It's just a lack of complete
understanding for how hard it is, how good those guys are.
Get off your chair for sports talk guys. Go off
(02:22):
your chair, go to one of these one of the practices.
Watch what they do, you know, watch what they do,
and uh take a deep breath, deep breath and think
about it for a second and go like, huh, can
my can I find any I played high school football?
(02:45):
Can I can I play college football. Can I They're
the best in the world. This is like, I get this.
I got this from people, um, even before I hurt
my knee, right when I was getting ready to coach
in the TBT. It's the basketball tournament. I coached the
Oklahoma State of Lumps. And you get people going, like
you sure you're not gonna be a player coach? Like no,
(03:08):
I was really, really, really good in college and I
was okay as a professional player, not in the NBA.
You know, but that was almost twenty years ago. Do
you know how good they are? How much better they
are than me? Yeah? I could go and dominate your
pickup game. Congrats, Like it doesn't mean anything to me.
Do you know how good they are? So for the
(03:31):
tebow thing, to all you guys doing victory laps, congrats.
I never understood any any of the pushback against it.
It's very simple. You had a guy who's an incredible leader,
incredibly accomplished as a college player, had been an NFL player,
and his old college coach came a shot, and we
(03:51):
came when it became painfully obvious that they had to
make a move. They made a move. We move on.
Speaking of moving on, let's get to Seattle. So Jamal
Adams gets signed to the biggest contract in the history
of the position. He's a safety, a bit of a
box safety, but a very good one at that. And
here's the thing. This is where Seattle screwed the deal up. Okay, um, this,
(04:18):
this is where they screwed it up. Is when you're
trading for Jamal Adams, you knew he was going to
want to get a gigantic contract that should have essentially
been negotiated before the trade or during this offseason. Now, look,
I've I've told you guys in the past. It's like
(04:40):
much the way I travel, Right, I gotta travel later
this week, and I will probably book it the night before,
but I know that I'm gonna travel the night before.
While it gives me more flexibility to figure out all
the other stuff, it's also prohibitively more expensive. Alright, prohibitively
more expensive. So Jamal Adams, the final toll could be
(05:00):
seventy two million dollars and as much as you go like, well,
that's not gonna happen. Um okay, okay. Their last safety
Earl Thomas, signed a four year contract made every penny
of what he was owed, and then he was still
mad about it even though he signed the contract. They
(05:20):
filled the contract, and they allowed him to walk as
a free agent where he's now bounced around. Of course,
had some other stuff go wrong on the football field.
So um, look, I can I can only tell you,
only tell you that, yes, Seattle overpaid Jamal Adams, and
(05:42):
he's a bit of a prickly personality. He's a tremendous, tremendous,
hard hitting safety. Does he have some limitations? Of course
they are perfect players. But if you don't like the
dollar figure, Seattle never should have made that move, or
when they made that move, it should have been pre negotiated.
The teams that have the best management avoid these situations
(06:06):
because when you get to a deadline, when you get
to you either have to be willing to go to
the mattresses, willing to let him miss a couple of games,
willing to find him, you know, which is why you
have the sit ins now or the hold ins. You know,
like his his teammate Dayne Brown, you hold in so
he doesn't get fine because it's a it's a maximum fine.
(06:29):
The point is really, really simple, really simple that if
you want to avoid this You've got two choices. One
get it done really early, or two you gotta be
willing to stick your feet in the ground and go.
We ain't budget on this. This is the final number.
We're not willing to pay up anymore. Seattle wasn't wanting
to do either, and because they couldn't do either, they
(06:51):
end up settling on the biggest contract in the history
of the sport. It's a good player. There's a good player,
but that defense is not the legion of Boom. The
offensive line has been tinkered with but not fixed. The
offense has been tinkered with, and we'll see if it's fixed.
And they still got the Duane Brown, don't you worry
about Generally, I am a wait till the last minute
(07:16):
sort of guy, but I understand that just like booking
plane flights, waiting till the last minute, it's gonna cost
you more money. It will allow you greater flexibility, you know,
to chance to bag a trip like I don't feel
like going not my jam. It allows you greater flexibility,
but it also in truth, hey, it's not just about flexibility.
(07:41):
In truth, it'll it costs you so much more money
that you're gonna put yourself in a pick. Now, Look,
everybody knows the Caps going way up at the end
of this year, and so players are trying to take
advantage of owners and front offices and whatever. I also
don't love the philosophical belief for the the what you'll
(08:05):
get as well. You know you traded for Jamontoms. You
have to sign into this deal, Like, no, you don't.
There is no have to. There is no have to
if he's not nearly what you thought he would be,
or if he's an inferior product what you thought. Again,
you don't have to do anything. Nobody's forcing to compound
a bad contract with a second bad contract. And God
(08:28):
bless him Moutoms. He told people, I want to be
the highest paid safety in the NFL. Couldn't happen with
the Jets, did happen with Seattle? But I'll be really,
really interested considering how safeties have to cover more now
than they ever have before, How this affects his team.
Is it for the better or is it not for
the better? All right, let's get We got a bunch
(08:51):
to get to. Um. I'm gonna play some audio for
you upcoming next and you're going to tell me if
it's aggressive Audi you aggressive audio. I don't know what
aggressive audio is, but I'm willing to learn what aggressive
audio is. That's up coming next. Be sure to catch
the live edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at
(09:14):
three pm Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio A app. What up which your
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Hope you're having a
very good day. We want nothing but the best for you.
That's what that's what we want. Do do do do?
Um hmm. I saw this story. I thought it was interesting.
(09:39):
S Naomi Osaka. There's video of her kind of breaking
down emotionally as a first press conference, and I believe
and she's at the Cincinnati Open right so uh. A
guy from the Cincinnati Inquirer who covers tennis, asked her
this question. Please play attention to the wording of the question,
the tone of the question. Um, go ahead. Are not
(10:00):
crazy about dealing with with with us, especially in this format,
Yet you have a lot of outside interests that are
that are served by having a media platform. I guess
my question is how do you balance the two and
and also do you have anything you'd like to share
with us? About what you did say to simone bodies. Um, Look,
(10:22):
there's a lot like there's like fifteen million questions in
one in there, right, which all yet you know there's
there's a simpler way to ask it. Um. But Naomi,
she broke down a little bit after answering some of
the question, stepped away and then came back and answered
some kind of tennis only questions, and then the agent
was very critical of it. Okay, so I didn't hear
(10:46):
anything in terms of tone. Now, did he make a
statement before the question? Yeah, he did. That's a mistake.
You don't have to make a statement. But on the
other hand, like this is not one of those interviews
where you can do a series of how do you
feel about the media? Day? Well, I'm great with dealing
with the media. I mean he's making a statement that
it's like the reasonably like, look, you're not crazy about
(11:06):
this sort of format and dealing with us. Does anyone
Does anyone find any of that in terms of tone off? No?
Is it actually inaccurate? No? Did it put a negative
tone on the conversation? No? It kind of allowed her
and out a little bit. So then the question should
have been just simply one question, how would you what
(11:30):
format would would work better for you? How can we
work together better? We need this for our work, we
need this for your work. How can we make it better?
That would have been a better question. So it's not.
Let's not actually it's a perfect question, but he did
and it was fair fair point, like, all right, well, look,
part of what goes with this is we give you
a platform and you can talk about all your other interests.
(11:52):
And I mean, like, look, she's benefited greatly from this platform.
She lit the torch at the Olympics. That was her.
It's in the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, that's her.
So I thought it was a little bit wordy. There
was a multi question angle to it, but in terms
(12:14):
of tone, I don't see anything negative towards it. But
this is what we've become as this what happens with athletes.
That happens. And this is my initial issue with na
Hoomie Osaka, which is, you know, she she's clearly having
some issues with anxiety, some form of social anxiety that
(12:36):
is real, it is not imagined. But what she's doing,
which I find to be completely unfairsh she's blaming on
the media and like that. Dude couldn't have He's just
trying to figure out how do I do what I'm
supposed to do and work with you so you don't
hate me? Like that's a pretty reasonable ask, Isaac Lowan cron.
(12:58):
You are a far more sent to the human being
than I am. Was there anything off about his tone?
You know? You just bring me in like that was
way too aggressive. So I'm going to step aside to
compose myself and I'll be back in about thirty seconds. No,
you're absolutely no, you're absolutely right. Yeah, I no offense.
But yes, I am more sensitive than you are, and
(13:20):
typically I am able to see the athletes human side.
But no, no, I was not. Look the Simone Biles
aside from a technical standpoint, was unnecessary, but I thought
it was a thoughtful, professionally asked question. Sorry if I'm
distracted by the trailer for her new special on Netflix,
(13:43):
but I had I had no problem with that question,
and I was totally prepared to have a problem with it.
But I didn't. Yeah, I didn't. I don't get it.
I don't get it, and then you know what happens,
the big bad me, Like I've never found the tennis
media to be this really hard core we're going after
the people who played tennis. Like I just I feel
(14:04):
like it's an unfair mischaracterization of people, and well, like
the like the one you're trying to do his job
and he's just basically asked, like, hey, how can I
do my job? And like not bringing to tears. I mean,
the London tabloids had a war with John McEnroe in
the eighties, but that was actually really really entertaining. UH.
Dodgers radio announcer Charlie Steiner back in the day got
(14:27):
into a fistfight at Wimbledon with one of the London
tabloid reporters, by the way, along those lines. But what
we just heard, there no no problem at all. I mean, Doug,
you've the people who covered you when you were playing, Columnists,
TV people across the nation. You've heard literally hundreds and
hundreds of questions more aggressive to that than that directed
(14:48):
at athletes, including those who play college sports. Yes, and
I think generally even in the college sports were not
aggressive doors r Q and A for the most part,
I think I think we treat we we treat UH
women with the with the most Olympic sports with the
most kid gloves, UM, college sports kind of second most.
(15:08):
I honestly think, well, her reaction is more to fans
or or Twitter. Right, It's like if you go and
you look in your mentions, that's that's where the stuff
kind of comes out. That's where the stuff gets to,
you know, where you getting any negativity. But I don't
know anybody in media who's openly negative about any women's sport.
(15:33):
I mean, the w NBA has probably caught the most
crap of anybody, and even the w n b A
it's like, you know, I'm like, frankly, ESPN carries the
carries the games, so they're gonna they're not gonna say
anything negative about it. They just kind of avoid it
and they pretend like it is a league on par
(15:56):
with the with the biggest leagues in the world. It's
not it's the biggest women's league. It's it's great for
summer sport what it does and survived a long time. Um.
But I don't think there's any sort of name. I
can't one. We don't talk about it too. If you do,
it's generally not negative. Nobody it's not. It's frowned upon
to speak negatively. About women's athletics just is that's reality.
(16:20):
To be sure to catch the live edition of the
Doug gott Leap Show weekdays at three p m. Easter
noon Pacific. Hey, what's up everybody. It's me three time
pro bowler Lavarrington and I couldn't be more excited to
announce a new podcast called Up on Game? What is
Up on Game? You asked, along with my fellow pro
bowler t J. Hudshman's Otta and Super Bowl champion. That's right,
(16:43):
Plexico Birds. You can only name a show with that
type of talent on it. Up on Game We're going
to be sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments.
Listen to Up on Game with Me, LaVar Arrington, t
J Hudgmansatta, and Plexico Birds on the I Heart Radio app,
Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast from. Let's
(17:08):
welcome in Adam Capitan's of course our Fox Sports Radio
NFL Insider. Did you see this? Um, Adam think so
much for taking time? Did you see this? Where? Um okay,
so Allegiance Stadium where the Raiders play. They're requiring anybody
who comes in the stadium game day to provide you
have to be vaccinated in order to enter the stadium.
(17:31):
Week one of the season, they play the Ravens, who
are quarterback by Lamar Jackson, who's apparently still trying to
get information from team doctors as to whether or not
he should get the vaccine after he's he's had COVID twice.
I kind of he kind of feels like there's there's
an issue down down the road here. Yeah, it is interesting.
(17:51):
So with Lamar Jackson, he was on the COVID list
last season and this year, and as you said, and
it's still the cases as I understand it, that he's
he's not gotten the facts seen yet. And this is
a good ongoing problem because yes, the vaccine numbers for
players are up, the players are still getting it. That's
a good thing, but not every team is in a
hundred percent. In fact, we only have the Falcon so
(18:12):
far as of the players getting the vaccine. So it's
a problem. As one coach is telling me, he's like,
I'm just treating these things like the players injured, um
and it could be injured at any time when we
don't expect it. And that's just kind of where they
are now. We we saw this some teams are kind
of wiped out. The Niners have the worst COVID situation
of any team. In fact, they had some false positives too,
(18:34):
So it is a concern. And when you're starting quarterback
hasn't gotten the vaccine, you definitely have to be concerned.
We know about the Kirk Cousins situation with the Vikings
where he's doesn't want to really talk about our then uh,
he's got some plans for the quarterback room. Yeah, I mean,
but what are you gonna do there? Like if you
you can't get in the stadium if you're not vacctated
and great question. Yeah, look, look he's a he's an
(18:57):
active player, UM, be able to play. And if that's
what they're I don't know what the Raider said. In fact,
John Mara, the president of the Johns, was actually asked
that today about the Raiders doing this, the first team
to do it. Um. And then the question is how
are they gonna you know, you're gonna have to show
your card? Can you show something online? Because me traveling
on my training camp tour, I had to have proof
(19:20):
for vaccination where I just had my card with me.
Yeah you did, you did? You don't have your digital one.
You know, I do not, And although I'm going to
I found out about from someone else where you can
go through clear to just to get it taken care of.
But um, that that was a fact the RAMS had me.
This is this is the this is interesting. When I
was going to practice, only did have to show my
vaccination card. They wanted an up dated PCR test, which
(19:42):
a lot of teams would like. But actually they had
to set it up for me at a hotel near
uh Larvine, So I had to get that done. Hmm. Yeah.
You honestly, if you just look online, you type in
digital vaccination card, you type in your day of birth,
and I think, I don't know if your social whatever
and where you got it, and they sent it to
you immediately and you you have it and then you
(20:03):
just keeping your photos on your phone put up whenever
you needed. Adam Kaplan joins his Fox Sport Trading and
series x M NFL Insider. Okay, so you went to
Eagles Pats joint practice. Um, let's start. Let's start with
the Patriots quarterback situation. Uh, there's there's a little bit
more ambiguity as to who the number one quarterback is. Uh,
(20:26):
take me through the workouts and what you saw between
Cam and mac Jones. All right, so the first two days,
you know, they they had a practice yesterday and today,
and then they're playing on Thursday. So this is just
my sense from talking to a Patriot source of kind
of what the offenses look like through training camp and
basically what we saw today yesterday. This offense is not
(20:48):
so much camp centric with somebody runs built in the Cam.
Last year I think they did some things like that
in terms of the run because he had not been
with them in the off season, but nowadays had a
full offseason to digest. We're having a train of camp,
we're having a preseason. This is less of a having
designed runs. It's more of a dropback system. Now the
(21:10):
dropback system, to me favorits more of Mac Jones, who
who looked good. Look, he's not gonna hire you with
arm threat. We have to understand who Mac Jones is.
He's a ball distributor. He gets it. He's sort of
like a point guard of the offense, like you, my friend,
you know in college. I mean, this is what he does,
gets where of the football, He gets it to the
past target. Cam's shoulder looks good. He had some good throws.
(21:30):
Remember last year really almost basically for three years, his
right shoulder have been a problem. He looks healthy. Uh.
The only issue is they do not have a very
good receiver corps. Well, but you're you're talking about a
bottom ten receiver corps. This does concern me. It's gonna
be high, high tenan centric. This is what we call
a twelve personnel offense where the tight ends dominate. Two
tight ends, two tight ends, and two receivers in one
(21:53):
running back. That it's going to be the Patriot offense.
That's what I see, That's what I'm told, and that's
what I expect this season. Yeah, and and look, Cam
is never been a tremendously accurate thrower, especially underneath it,
but he does he when his holder was right, he
had a big downfield arm. And then of course he's
a crazy athlete as well. So those are the kind
of the tooth. And and when they played well, they
had a running game and he had Cam as a runner,
(22:15):
and then you had the ability to take the top
off of defense as well. Okay, so what do you think,
does you know there's start of their seasons kind of soft.
It feels like like, I'm not a big buyer into
the Saints right now. Um, okay, so you have Jets,
you have Saints, and then of course you have you
have Miami, and then you got the Buccaneers. How do
you think they handle it? Here's what I think. Let's
(22:36):
start at the quarterback position. Just overall. I think you
hit it at the top. Here it's Cam new in
their starter. Now, yes there's Bill Belichick me in this
clear at the start of training, Kip. It doesn't mean
he will be early on it. Maybe week one. I
think it's and you mentioned their schedule. Now they have
a favorable schedule or the other teams that are deciding
the quarterback. There's some other challenges being the Cam is
(22:57):
healthy that that's going to help them. And he's clearly
has the size that you like. And he's only thirty two.
It's so he's thirty eight or thirty nine years old,
just if you worry about the injury history. I just
feel like this offense, based on what I know, this
favors a little bit more of Mac Jones. By the way,
That's why they drafted him right, because he fits this
This system is dropback system. That's why Brian Hoyer's back there?
(23:19):
Who who If they move on from Newton this season,
where could be Mac Jones's backup? We know, we know
Jones will absolutely be the starter twenty two. The question
is how long could Cam Newton hauld him off. Now,
I will tell you from my sources that they've been
happy with Cam. It has to be just this is
my sense. It has to be absolutely clear that Mac
(23:40):
Jones has been better on than camping for him to
be the starter, and that it has not been the case.
It's Mac been good. Yes, he actually had a good offseason,
but it's not like he's distanced himself from Newton. All right,
let's let's go to the eagle side of the football. Um,
Jalen Hurst always says and does the right thing. That's
never been the issue. The issue has been, you know, progressions, Um,
(24:01):
you know, whereas you know when he said in college
it was especially last year to Oklahoma was like if
you don't see it, just run it, and they call
a lot of design runs. He had a start and
a half, they were pretty good last year and then
he really kind of went went flat. Where is he
has starting quarterback of the Eagles? Yeah? Just my sense
from talking Eagle sources that he's come a long way now.
(24:23):
He had an exceptional practice UH on Monday against the Patriots.
Really did. He did a lot of things really really well. Now,
you did hit it right. You're absolutely right on your
first point about progression reading. This was his issue and
why he ran a lot last year. And again he
didn't have an off season or preseason, and he was
having to learn his fourth offense in five years. It's
hard to do that actually technically if you could say
(24:44):
five if you want so, it's just been and and
by the way, you shouldn't know the fans to know
this for people don't follow the Eagles. The Eagles were
one of the few teams that did not have seven
on seven or eleven eleven practice in the spring. They
this is their agreement nex seriality, the head coach with
their their player council UH, to get them to be
in their mandatory camp, they would not do any teamwork. Well,
(25:04):
that's that's a problem when you're trying to learn a
new offense and Hurts is gonna be your starter. He
needs to get better chemistry with his past targets. So
that to me has been sort of the issue with him.
He's been had a very up and down training camp.
Joe Flaccobo has done a good job, but Jalen Hurts
is gonna be the starter. The question for the Eagles
is where were their stance on training for Deshaun Watson.
Will they eventually do it next year that that remains
(25:26):
to be seen, but for this season, as long as
Jalen Hurts is healthy, they intend for him to be
the starter. And remember they traded up for him last
year though they never intended him to be the guy.
It was gonna be Cartson Wentz, but we know how
that ended. Still got got lib show here on Fox
Sports Trading. Speaking of Carson Wentz, what's his status in Indie?
I'm told actually in the last hour that by a
(25:47):
source would know that, uh, the expectations he should be
back by week two bars a setback. So what happened
was he had a partial break in his foot that
was not discovered. It was small. He had what's called
u you some people call it a stress reaction, which
what happens is you some time over series of years,
you you stress your foot and it has a small
(26:10):
crack or tear, but it doesn't move. You could play
with it and then it goes which is it went
in that practice a few weeks ago, So he only
practiced one or three quarter times in training camp and
he had the surgery. Um, you're looking back, he should
be back within four weeks. That that would be probably
the second week. That's the source I spoke with who
would know bargains sent back. That's that expectation of the
(26:32):
question is if once it's not ready week one or two,
where are they going to go here? Jacob Eason is
I don't know if you saw the preseason game now,
I don't understand. He's a little bit raw. He's a
big kid with a good arm. Accuracies in question. He
really did look good against the Panthers. He did some
good things. Ellener the back up the sixth round or
doesn't have that armies a better athlete. They fully expect
(26:53):
Eastern to be there too. Something would have to happen
over the next two preseason games and a training camp
for for he and to lose it. Adam Caplan joining
us NFL insider for Fox Sports Trader. This is the
Doug Outlives Show here on Fox Sports Radio and Fox
Sports Trader dot Com. The I Heart radio app Let's
go to Chicago where Justin Fields look. Look, he looked
(27:14):
like Justin Fields does some freaky things and by all
accounts has kind of picked it up a notch here
over the last week or so. Will it be enough
for him to start the season. That's the starting quarterback? Hey, Doug,
Just so we were clear here the the Matt Naggie,
the head coach of the Bears, yesterday made a clear
who's gonna be the starter Week one? Andy Dalton at
(27:37):
the Rams. That will be obviously a very difficult matchup.
They also, I'm told by team source, they do not
have a time frame or timeline of play fields. They're
not going in. Okay, well for one of three, we're
gonna pull them there. They're not really doing that. They
they have a long term plan for fields. Uh. I
was with the Bears last week when they have the
dolphinsin's for combined practice at their at their training complex
(27:59):
um Forest. The fields was fantastic. I gotta tell you,
he was fantastic. Uh. In the the the second day
of practice which was on Wednesday, he was phenomenal. Uh.
He and we talked about progression reading. He's gone, He's
come a long way, I'm told, Uh, and he's a
willing learner, great kid, he's got everything you want. Uh,
(28:20):
It's just Andy Dalton has done nothing to lose his job.
He's actually had a pretty good training cap. That's that's
what That's what makes it easier for not for them
not to rush this thing. And I've seen this covering
this business twenty years I've covered. I've seen teams rushed
the start of the rookie quarterback when he's not ready
more often not. You just work with the guy, you
take the growing pains. But he fields has done a
(28:43):
good job. But they're in a pretty good place where
the issue they have is at at left tackle with
Jason Peters right now, he just signed, he's thirty nine
years old. Who knows what kind of shape he's in.
The guy they projected to start, Tevin Jenkins, is not
gonna be ready. He's got a back issue which they
knew about pre pre draft, and he's not practicing. So
they're desperate and they're going with Jason Peter right now
at left tackle. All Right, Trey Lance, any chance tray
(29:03):
Land starts the season as the starter? Is there a chance? Yes,
that's not their plan. Um, he's gonna play. They're all
gonna play this season. There's I just for Jimmy Garoppo
to stay of off Lance. It's gonna take something extraordinary. Now.
I know the Niners believe they're gonna be way better
than last year. They think they'll be a playoff team.
(29:23):
They're getting all these injured players back. They made the
trade for Trent Williams at left tackle. They feel really
good about that. Um, they had a COVID issue. They
don't have that right now. They feel really good about
their situation. It's just they've got to take a step
here now. Lance has had an up and down camp.
There's sometimes we go holy smokes. We have to remember
he doesn't have a lot He did not have a
(29:45):
lot of starts. Effect the only started one game last
season in college football. Didn't didn't go very well for him.
But in terms of here's the thing, you love very
pro raty. In terms of the offense he played at
North Dakota State, pro style offense. You love that about him.
But he's got a long lease and he was in
terms of overall development, he was the furthest away. I'm
(30:05):
told by several offensive cordiners and quarterback coaches for this draft.
So I think Garoppolo it's not a question of who's
gonna start Week one, It's a combination of does he
play well and are they winning? If both are happening,
he'll he'll keep the job. But remember, they had an
opportunity to trade Jimmy Garoppolo, but no one really stepped up.
(30:26):
There were some calls, they they just didn't get anywhere
near the what the the value that they wanted. So
they kept him and Lance is going to be the guy.
He will start at some point this season though. Doug
Outlive Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Jamal Adams biggest
contract in the history of the safety position. Is he
worth it? It's you know, it's funny about Jamal Adams.
I remember when I did some reporting on this trade
(30:46):
last summer, and I remember talking to Jet Source thinking
it's like, how could we refuse to do this trade?
I mean, you're getting multiple first round picks for a
box safety. Now he is an impact player, he's a
tone setter. They wanted to be sort of rebuild the
legion of Boom back there, but unfortunately, just if not
added anyone else, others who can do that, other than
Jamal Adams, so that that they're long ways away from
(31:08):
doing that, but they want to. They want to set
the tone for the locker room. He's a leader. Um.
That was a tremendous trade really for clearly the Jets
got the better around of the deal so far. Now
Adams as a leader. They like them, they really do.
That's why they're paying them seventeen and a half a
million a year. But I would I would just tell
you the Seahawks DOUG do a structure. Typically almost every
deal is the same. Agency don't like doing it. It's
(31:31):
typically a large signing bonus and one one additional year
fully guaranteed money so the team could get out after
year two. Most teams don't. We're willing to do better deals.
But Adams is gonna make seventeen and a half million U.
The thing about him is he wanted a bigger deal
because he wouldn't be paid as a because he's more
of a box linebacker when I see box safety is
really more of a linebacker, and he want to be paid.
(31:52):
So that was never gonna happen. In fact, you know,
you see these new linebackers now they're getting the non
pass rushing linebackers getting twenty million. They weren't even going
to do that. They had a number in mine and
they were gonna walk away. By the way, my understandings
that they had the kind of said this is it,
and Jamal Adams kind of knew where he was at
and he got his DEALI of the Jets were. You know.
The funny thing about the Jets is they actually wanted
to keep them, but they wanted away to her and
(32:14):
they knew this is gonna be a bad situation where
Adams eventually just may have held out and they want
to avoid it. So they got incredible deal. I got
to get credit for doing what they did. Adam Caplin

red Hawks, red Wolves, my personal choice, monuments, commanders, hogs, etcetera, etcetera.
(33:48):

not literally. What are you accounibals? Football players? Three? I

mask on? True? Could be one of the three. I
was thinking maybe you could keep. The Washington football team
called him the w F t W t F because
that's what their fans have said a lot over the
last twenty years. Alright, so we will see now a
big news recently the beautiful Field of Dreams major League

you have Major League, you have a League of their own,
very good football. You have Rudy basketball. You have Coosier's hockey.
(35:15):

bullder Um two and slap Shot one. Oh nice, see
you've got some taste and sophistication there. Oh you can
you can do a whole own who owned the Chief?
(35:36):
The Chief? You could do a whole special podcast about
slap Shot. Excellent choices and good good to pull there
with a League of their own? Alright, So the NBA
today released some Tidbits gave us a taste of its
upcoming schedule. They released the opening night matchups, but they
also released the Christmas Day schedule, always huge in the NBA.
(35:58):
I want you to rank the three bed Christmas Day matchups.
It leads off with the Hawks against the Knicks at
the Garden, then the Milwaukee Bucks hosting the world the
world champion Milwaukee Bucks hosting the Boston Celtics, the Golden
State Warriors at Phoenix, then the real prime time matchup,
the Los Angeles Lakers hosting the Brooklyn Nets, and the

nightcap the Dallas Mavericks at Utah. Ranked the top three
of those five matchups for US. Uh. Okay, here and me,
I'm looking at these matchups here, um m hmm. Are

first Hawks, Knicks, second Celtics, Bucks, third, Golden State Phoenix,
fourth Nets Lakers, and the finale the Mavericks and the
Utah Jazz. Okay in order? Um yeah, just your top three?
My top three? My top three are I love Hawks
(37:01):
Knicks in this sort of three is Hawks, Knicks, Warrior
Sons is two Nets Lakers is one. Okay, yeah, definitely
number one, I mean number one, clear cut, but yeah,
after that certainly debatable. All right. Uh, Next, we've got
the news today that Jamal Adams gets the big pay
day from the Seattle Seahawks, four years, seventy million dollar extension,
(37:23):
thirty eight million dollars guaranteed. I want you to rank
the top three safeties in the NFL. Some candidates Justin
Simmons of the Broncos, the Vikings, Harrison Smith, Johnny Johnson
now the Cleveland Browns, the Saints, Marcus Williams, make of
Fitzpatrick of the Steelers, Derwin James of the Chargers. Uh,
Marcus May of the Jets, Adrian Amos of the Packers.
(37:45):
Pick your top three safeties. Okay, I'll put Jamal Adams
at at three. Do you think he's very good although
more of a box safety, right, just limited in terms
of what he can do? Um At at two, I'll
put Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos. And at one
I'll put Derwin James of the l A Tourney Right on, boy,

Next item, Doug, I'm so sorry sorry, glad, I just
said that to make sure everyone was paying attention. All right,
So Tim Tebow unfortunately has comeback did not work out,
came to a timely end. Today. Our final item in
(38:29):
rank him today, I want you to rank the best
comebacks by athletes in sports history, alright, regardless of the sport.
The best comeback by athletes in sports history. We recently
had one with Alex Smith. We had Bo Jackson from
that devastating injury to hit home run in his first
(38:51):
game back with the White Sox. Rank them. Um, okay,
I would say that, uh comebacks huh. I mean I
know my number one is uh, my number one is
gonna surprise you. My number two is Alex Smith. I'm
looking for a number three. Oh. I know when Magic
(39:13):
came back from having HIV and the All Star Game, Yeah,
the All Star Game, hit the game winning shot, but
he also came back and played some of the NBA after,
you know, after he had retired, and um, he wasn't
the same, but it was still pretty pretty outstanding, especially
because what it did was it brought knowledge where we didn't.
We realized HIV wasn't what it proceved to be. Number
(39:34):
two is Alex Smith, well documented. Number one is Adrian Peterson.
Came back from a tour in a c L and
