having a great, great day. The Doug Gotleap Show is
brought to you by Bette Rivers sports book bet Versus
the Trust, the Name and online sports betting. You must
be twenty one President Colorado in Illinois, Indiana and Pentsylvania
play gambling prop called one Gambler Man. When I already
we had a chance in Melvin Gordon, I was like,
that's sweet, right, two time pro bowler of course, trafted
(00:50):
by my l A Chargers, and uh but he had
to play in Carson and get a chance to play
in in so far, Denny's with the hated, heated rivals,
the Denver Broncos the past couple of years and then
he's getting ready to up here, like hey, what about
this tweet back in nineteen you guys are playing I
think it was your first game back against Tennessee and
you you fumbled around the red zone and around the
(01:10):
goal line. It was a weird. That game was weird, weird.
So I did tweet out that because you fumbled, they
should cut you or send you home on that. I
apologize for how harsh a fan. I'm not a fan
of anything like I played basketball State, I'm not really
don't gonna stay basketball, Like I gonna say football and
Chargers football and that's about it. So my fan, I'm
got got got got a hold of me, and I apologize.
(01:32):
And it was, you know, I want to say, that
was my first game back to it was what is it? What? What? What? What? Now?
A couple of years removed, what's that experience like? Because
you had such an incredible start to your career and
you kind of stuck your heels in the ground, like, look,
here's how much I'm worth. And of course that was
after Zeke's contract was done as well. Um, then you
(01:53):
came back to the team. Obviously, then at the end
of the year leave the team. But what what what's
that experience like? And I asked you as if you
were to advise a younger running back who's going through
that looking for their second contract. You just gotta you gotta,
you gotta take your emotions out of it. I think
that was the biggest thing for me, um, because I like,
you know, and I still love the charges, but I
(02:13):
had so much love and I was just like, man,
I'm out here. You know, I'm out here. You you
get guys that that you know, bruise the thumb and
the door or something they want to they don't want
to play, you know that. And I'm like, man, I'm
out here with two knee braises. I'm giving everything I
got to the squad, man, no matter what, I played
through every injury to win games, to get us to
the playoffs. Whatever I gotta do, I'm gonna do it. Um.
(02:35):
You know, fans after every game, before games, I go
take pictures with the fans. I was showing love. Man.
It was just like, you know, I'm giving all this
And I was like, man, y'all, just like we're the
love at like we're the we're you know. And it
was a lot of other stuff that went into it, man,
And you know, I would just tell us a younger kid,
just take the emotion out of it, you know, because
it's not about that. It's a business at the end
(02:56):
of the day. And I was just I had too
much emotion, man, I had way too much emotion. And
it um because that's you know, that's where I wanted
to be, you know. And I know a lot of
people probably felt like, oh, you don't want to be here,
but you know I did want to be there. You know.
I had a great relationship with all those guys. Man.
Unfortunately it didn't work out. But you know, I still
you know, talk with Tom and and you know before
(03:17):
the games when we played them, and uh, man, I
got love for everybody. And then Tom being Tom Glasco
actually a personal friend of mine, I know how much
he cares about you personally, haven't drafted you. It's the
gem of the Chargers. And then what's it like to
play for in the same division against them. Yeah, it's
it's tough in a sense though, because it's like, you know,
you're going to a team where you kind of despised
(03:39):
them for five years. And and with me, I hated
I hate every team that I'm not playing on, so
I was with the Charges. I hated every team if
you ain't had a boat on him. And I hated you,
you know what I mean, it just was what it was.
Loved players, but I hate you when I played you,
just honestly. That's just how I felt. Um. But it
was tough though, because you know, I you know, I
disliked everyone in our division, especially everyone in our division
and Raiders uh rocos and then going there, so now
(04:02):
all those fans hate me, and then I had a
great setting leaving the Chargers with the fans, so they
hated me so, um, you know, it was just it
was tough, man. It was that that year was it
was a tough year for me. How did how did
the Raiders make the playoffs? How did that happen? Man?
They should have just I'd rather have the Chargers and
the Raiders in there and the Steelers. Honestly that this
(04:26):
new man just little ball, little balls, so we can
get her vote in there, man, we can see what
he could do. Man, come on, hey, I mean, joker,
that joker nice. Now, I like like and and and
pr Phil Rivers was a great, great quarterback, but the
last couple of years it was tough. Now you have
a guy back there six five six six move throwing. Yeah,
(04:50):
just beautiful. Man. Were you watching Week seventeen your season's over?
Did you watch the Raider Charger game? Of course? Man, man,
what what what's as a former Charger and watching that game,
as you said, you hate everybody played again, she definitely
hate the Raiders, right, Oh man, come on, man, what
was well? What do you remember about watching that? I'll
just remember a little the end of part. You know,
(05:11):
they was going at it and it was crazy. I
was just watching Mike, you know, because I text. I
text Keenan and Mike often. Um, you know, I still
got relationship with all those guys, most of them, and uh,
you know, Mike was going crazy. Michael was going crazy
at the end. Time up, I bro, I'm like, I'm like,
watch this. I'm like, this is gonna be a tie.
I think everyone in the world thought it was gonna
be a tie. And I'm like, man, you get to
the end, man, just kneel it out. What's the you
(05:31):
know what I mean? Like, you know, just kneel the
ball out and you know, you both go. You know,
no one gets hurt. It's perfect, you know what I mean.
That's what I remember, that little time out they called
it the end of the game, and I'm kicking and
field goal. When you you split time this year in
Denver and and it's as as Dan Buyer who Need
Our Great Fantasy Podcast point out when they say you
split time, like literally, even that's crazy. When I seen that, crazy, Yeah,
(05:54):
that don't happen. I don't think. I mean, did they know? Nah? Nah,
work there just we we go every other series. It
just works out like that. And then sometimes like when
I'm tired, come in, come in, or sometimes when he's tired,
he caught me in. It just happened to work out
two or three, two or three, I've seen that. I
was like, Bro, that's crazy. It is. That's that's nuts
(06:15):
even how even it is when when you're splitting time
like that though, and you are tired, but you get
into the red red zone and look, you've been one
of the great things you've done your careers. You know
how to get into the end zone. Um do you
kind of fake it and like okay, I can catch
my breath this play. We just get before you get
to So you get to the red jone, you gotta
stay tired and be cracking jokes with each other because
(06:37):
we'd be like man, bro, like we'll get tired, and
you know, we stay in. We stay in when we
get tired because we're like bro, we don't know what
the next play is and whoever get down there go line.
Usually donna get it, you know what I mean. Or
sometimes we get switched out. But um, we're like man,
if we're in there and it's a big play down
you know, in the his zone, we get to touchdown,
so neither one of us like to get out. But
sometimes you know, you just can't help it, but we
(06:59):
laugh about it. Okay, So to your deal is up? Now? Yeah,
I don't know, man, you know, and I'm not looking
forward to free agency? You're not? And no, heck no,
it wasn't what I what I thought it would be. Um,
Like I said, it was a lot that went on
in my free agency behind closed doors, man, and it's
not something that I'm looking forward to, right. So what
(07:21):
are you looking? What are you looking for? What? What
has to happen with the team you will sign with?
Will do what? Um? You know, believe that I could
be the guy for them, you know what I mean?
Believe that I could, You know, I can, I can
carry the load. You know, I've been, you know, like
I said on a couple other um you know, interviews
and whatnot. Uh. Fortunately, but unfortunately or unfuntuned unfortunately, but
(07:42):
fortunately I've been. I've been teamed up with some backs
that are just I mean Austin, I mean he's just
crazy man and stuff. He could do his birds, um,
you know, catching out the back fields, route running. I've
been teeming over some great backs to kind of help
me and uh, you know, and then I get teamed
up with Philip Lindsay, um, and then I get teamed
up with Vante. It's like I get I get teamed
up with ones, you know, guys that could that could
(08:05):
be Uh it's not like it's a guy that's kind
of you know, like just way under you and beneath you,
that can't hold the team down if you get hurt.
I'm getting teamed up with guys that are ones, you
know what I mean. So it helps me and hurts me,
but it's keeping me fresh. Some golf clubs you got,
you got some new kind of golf clubs. You're like,
don't ask you about what you're like, you come about
these golf clubs. Yeah, so we're talking about vibes golf
(08:26):
club man. Something my friends started, um just because you know,
you know, golf has looked at as looked at as
like a status game, you know what I mean. You
either you either gotta be brought up in this neighborhood
or you have to be uh, you know, athlete with
some money or something. You know, we got and that's
what it is. And that's what it is. Man. We're
(08:47):
trying to change the views on that, get inter city
kids to kind of get out there. You know, one
of them kids might be you don't have to play
football or basketball and go put your body through this
terrible feeling for you to be you know what I mean,
something special. Are you a good golfer? No, I suck.
I'm getting better though. At the end of the day,
I was like, yeah, getting better. If you're gonna if
you're gonna have your own golf clubs, they gotta be
(09:08):
the type of golflows that are tailor made so that
you can hit it straight. Like, I don't care what
they look like. As long as they hit it straight,
then it's good. Look good man, it's a good time
to you go you golf? Yeah, something I get to
like the fourteen told him like he's a resident golfers.
It's fun though, Man, I enjoyed doing it with my friends. Man,
we have a good time, you know. I don't know
(09:29):
if you've seen the social page, but we try to
make it, you know, as fun as possible. We got
a good group of guys that's behind it. Man. We
have fun with him. Man. I I s some guys
on the team now that that are pretty good. I'm
just not. I'm just that guy. And it's supposed to
be amateurs. Man, we're supposed to be amerates. You're not
supposed everybody's not supposed to be Tiger Woods out there,
you know what I mean. Alright, So, since we've been
(09:50):
with you since day one, just know, if you want
to break where you're going with us in free agency,
we'll give you the hotline and you don't have to
go through Schefter or any of those other guys. Go
ahead with the just call and just say, hey, Melvin
half Gordon is gonna sign with you, all right? Good enough?
Melvin Gordon soon to be determined two time pro bowler
joined us in the Doug Gotli Show. Mow and thanks
(10:10):
so much up vibes golf clubs. Darius Rucker is supposed
to join us. Aaron Jones is supposed to join us.
That will come next. Be sure to catch the live
edition of The Doug gott Leap Show weekdays at three
p m. Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio in
the I Heart Radio WAP Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio.
In the catalog of Darius Rucker songs to come out
(10:34):
of break on Ramos, what was your What was the
thought process here? Well, it says this is his latest single.
I said, let's do a little little oh to metallic.
All right, Darius, there you go. That's what I'm talking about.
All Right, we're winning musicians, superstar golfer, whether it's country
or back to the hoodie days. Of course, Darius Rucker
(10:55):
joining us. How you doing? I'm good? How are you doing?
I'm all right? Um we we gotta catch up personally,
but um, I gotta ask you about your your dolphins. Yes,
what about it? Right? Like you're the guy everybody goes
to do, by the way, you like that. I was
in a bar in Oklahoma last week and like old school,
the probably fifty more pounds with you had the high
(11:18):
top high top fade. It was classic. That was that
was a great look. So everybody goes to you for
Dolphins quotes, Dolphins go, Um, the Dolphins are in a
good spot, you know. I think that with the room
we got in the cap and and hiring the new
coach who I love, and you know, like he wasn't
(11:40):
even playing anything. He wasn't playing. Yeah, he wasn't playing
any games. You like to h I do like to him.
Nobody else seems to like to H. Well, that's because
too had that a chance to show people what when
you when you were, when you got what one publication
called the worst defensive line in the in the league,
or worth ofphensive line in the league. It's tough to
show what you can do. And his numbers are good
(12:01):
for I like to I think could could. Here's what's
been missing for two Okay, and I'll make the I'll
make the lame music analogy right where you can listen
to a guy and like I could even when you
did your R and B album, which me and and
Brandon we both have. Yeah, you're two of the three thousands. Yeah,
(12:23):
but you can listen and go like, Okay, man still
d He's got the voice, Okay, everything has to come
together or you know you can. There's like a wow
player or a wow moment or are you playing golf
you have that one shot like, oh okay, he keeps
you coming back. I haven't seen that from too. I
haven't seen a wow play in in Like, I see
what you're saying. I see what you're saying. I get
what you're saying. But I think for me, the his consistency.
(12:47):
I mean, he's his arms strong, he he can really.
I think he's even to not be as tall as
quarterbacks us are. I think he sees to feel well,
he's I think it's good at reading defenses. I'm glad
we're having somebody him in who believes in him and
wants to go, let's do this. Do you think he
believes anything? Yes, even though he just says it like
or I think he got I think he does. I
(13:08):
mean it feels like that's got kind of he's got
to make it work right all the Clearly the front
office is invested in him. So whoever took it head
to say like I'm in, that's I think the person
who had to take that job had to be in.
I had to feel like I believe it because he's
going to be there. Like like you said, they you know,
they did you use the draft pick on him? He's
the guy. You know, they didn't make any moves this year,
like everybody thought they were gonna dude, you know, to
(13:29):
get the shan or anything. And so it's like, he's
the guy. So I think I think he believes him.
Can I can I ask you to do something which
I'm sure you've done a bunch of times, but it's
got to be weird for me to ask you to
retell a story that you told me. Okay, Two things
I get asked about you when I say I know
Darius Rucker, They say, how do you make the switch
to country music? Okay, because now you're synonymous with country music,
(13:51):
you're a superstar in it. But what what was that process? Like,
how did it take place? That was you know, one
of the guys we were we were on tour with
Hoodie and I had been talking about making a country
record for decades at this point with these guys, and
and one of the guys said he didn't want a
tour anymore, and so I just thought, I'm gonna go
(14:11):
to the Nashville and I'll be honest with I don't
think I could get a record deal, you know, because
we had you know, we had we had basically we
were just playing. We weren't on the radio anymore, you know,
the old songs were, but none of our new songs.
And we were playing shows. We're doing well on the road.
But that was it. And and so you know, I
got a record deal. But then when once I got
the record deal, it was just like, but how did
(14:34):
you get the record deal? Like how does what is that?
What is that actually what actually has to happen. I
wasn't even looking for a record deal, Like, I didn't
even tell my manager to get me a record deal.
I just told him I was gonna make a country
His name was DC McGee. No. We were just talking
one time, and you know, we when Ben got together
to tell him we weren't playing, and he's like, what
do you gonna do? Like, guys, I'm gonna make a
country record. He's okay, and but one night he's ad, uh.
(14:55):
Then he he's got another guy on on on Universe
on Capitol and he's at dinner with the president Capital
and he said he's you know, he says, I want
you to sign this guy. And the guy kept going
who who? And he kept going to this guy, you
want to sign him? And finally Doc pulled the old man.
I'm Doc McGee. I'm telling you want to sign this guy.
Just tell me you sign him. I tell you who
(15:16):
he is. So so he goes, yeah, I'll sign him.
Who is it? And he says Darius Sorker And of
course he who Yeah. And the funny thing is he
said he Mike Dunet his name, but I love him,
and he said he said that, he said to me,
and he said the Doc He's like, I've never got that.
Who do you think? But I've always thought that guy
(15:36):
was a cutty singer. I'm really gonna give him a
record deal. Okay, the other one, and then it won't
be like this for long? Right? Okay, So here's how
I remember. You tell me the story that you thought
you had a hit, and is that everybody you played
it for? Somebody cried right, yes, yes, okay, wait so
the so, so pick the picture how it actually works.
(15:56):
You're in a boardroom, you're in a sound studio, like
what I'm gonna we're you know, we're talking about records,
and we had we had one big hit, and I
don't go in and I'm gonna play the you know,
we're talking about what was the first but I don't think.
I don't think about it. And then so we're gonna
play a hit we were trying to figure out. And
so I would play the song and I go in
there and I play it the song of it then,
(16:17):
but I also play it on guitar, and pretty much
everybody in that room that was a parent cried and
we knew that was where'd you write it? I was
sitting with Astley Gorley and Christo Wah and Astley was
looking at a songwriter a year last year and he
was really young looking. Kidney told me he had these kids,
(16:38):
and I was like, you know how, you know how,
and and we started talking and then we started showing
pictures of our kids and I said, you know, yeah,
it sucks. It won't be like this for long. And
we all just went, oh my god, Yeah, that's that's crazy.
Now you were weren't you supposed to take the year
your son's gonna take a year off and play golf
with you? Is that the COVID year? Yes? And we did.
(17:00):
He played a lot of golf. So okay, so let
me let me kind of Darris Rucker joining us, Doug
Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. So, um, so your son
you started this is again how you told it to me,
so that if I screwed up the story that he
finally got to the place where he can beat you.
Right now, it's like competitive And you said, okay, you're
not gonna take a year off of school. I'm touring.
(17:21):
You're just telling me. And if they didn't know how
Darius tours, he goes and he that they take the
bus and they opened up shop the next morning, and
he goes and plays golf and then he gets a nap,
gets somebody gets ready to do as a show, does
it again, and then you're traveling overseas as well. That
really happened. Yes, he said he wanted He said he
wanted to play golf and he wanted to play in college.
And I was like, well, if you gotta play, you're
(17:43):
gonna play a lot of golf. And I said, well, well,
homeschool you for a year, and you're told me, and
we'll play golf every day. And that's what we did
every day all over the world. One day dude, this
is what This was a four day period for us.
We played Slawgrass, Augusta, St. Andrew's in Carnost Come on
(18:04):
and we're walking up some Andrew's and he hits this
monster in number one and we're walking up some Andrew's
and I just yelled at like go jack, and he
turns it on and goes, you know it's not real life, right?
I was like, you know this is not real life?
Does he yeah? Yeah, he does, yeah, Because I mean
I don't know. You lose a little track of you
lose a little track of what I've been around. You
lose a little track of reality. Yeah, Like I can't go.
(18:25):
I can't go to concerts and not be, not be backstage,
you go backstage? You can't. How can how can he
just got the muni when he's like yeah, well you
know it's seven on cars and people around like you
sound like the biggest d D of all all the time.
Be amazing. Now, Yes, that was an amazing year that
we played so much golf, so many great places. Please
tell me he's still playing golf. He's still plays he's
(18:47):
a little song right r now, but but he's still
playing Yes, Okay, yeah, okay, um, you're there's a couple
of analogies you make that are great. I Got Nothing
He is one of my favorite songs. I still don't
understand why wasn't a super big hit. I don't either, Right,
So I'm trying to think, who's the football team. Who's
the I got nothing? Is it the Browns? Is the
(19:07):
Eye got nothing? Or is it this Laker team that
I got nothing? I think is Detroit Lions. I got
nothing consistently. Yeah, and then the second Stafford leaves, he
goes to the Super Bowl, Like talk about salt in
the world. That was salt if that had to make
the Troy fans go wow, we've really held that guy
back for thirteen years out along Well Jr. Same thing,
(19:28):
Like he was in Cleveland, looked like he was washing.
Now he's playing super Bowl. Yeah, okay, you got big shows,
concerts coming, and you did you were in you were
in Mexico, right, ye, we did the wh FT Okay,
and then I know you're going to like Ireland. Yep,
I got a glen over there, the festival with our
big country music. And then you got these p x
G club p XG clubs, Yes, they go with you
(19:50):
every where you go everywhere? What's special about these clubs?
I think they're the best clubs in the market, but
you know there there there. Everybody thinks p XG is
the expansive clubs, and they do have, but they also
not expensive for you because you're rich, and too because
you're getting for free. But other than they actually have
clubs in every for everybody. They have. So to me,
when I say, why would I what? What? What? What
(20:11):
makes a p x G club for you as a
really good golfer, as an avid golfer? What makes it
your club a choice? They're so forgiving, I mean, and
they're there forgiving it a long and it sounds like
a cliche, but you have more fun playing golf when
you're playing good golf. Question when the clubs help you
as much as p xgs do, I think, I mean,
I think everybody should be peying. They'd be surprised. The
(20:32):
games will be better. Went from eight to four, and
that's not exaggeration. Here four now, dude, you're giving me
some you are you are always a pleasure. I'm sure
we can hopefully see this weekend Final four. I know
you're performing there as well. If there's a sporting event.
Darius Rucker is there nationally Like are you doing national
(20:55):
anthem tonight? Like yes, I yes, yes, I am to
get your Dan Buyer quickly, get you an update Dan,
what he a doug A lot going on? In fact,
this from Russell westbrook the Lakers guard who's told reporters
today that the reason he's feeling discomfort in his back
is because he's not accustomed to quote sitting down for
long stretches and got that'll do it. That is why
(21:16):
he felt discomfort. That from Russell Westbrooks. So so it
wasn't it wasn't back discomfort when he shot the ball
over the backboard several No, he was healthy. Then discomfort
from launching bricks like he did that can also hurt
the lower back, But apparently it's the long stretches of
(21:37):
sitting on the Lakers bench. New Sixers guard James Harden
won't make his debut with his new team until Tuesday,
according to ESPN, dealing with some hamstring tightness. Some injury
news on the Super Bowl, Rampson and Tyler Higby won't play.
He was placed on injured reserve, while Bengals Toy and
c J. Uzama is expected to go despite a knee
injury he suffered two weeks ago, and Rams defensive coordinator
Rhee Morris as Eric Weddle will where the green dots
(21:59):
in the he be the team signal caller. Coming up
on Sunday, Daily Mail in the U cases that English
soccer club Tottenham Hotspurs looking to formulate a bid to
host Super Bowl sixty in London. Only four more following
in inquiry Auburn's announced they are retaining it. Go to
Brian Harrison. And in Gulf Brooks Kepta in the uh
swing of things, that the waste management opened Brooks right
(22:22):
now eight underpart through ten holes on a second round
four shots back of the lead by being held by
Sahath the Gala in Phoenix and second round play. Doug
back to you, Doug Gottlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
We we talked all day that guys have great seasons
and yet their season comes to an unceremonious end and
(22:45):
you start to go like, well, maybe he didn't have
a great the the Packers had a great year, best
record in the NFC. Then they lose a game at home,
the first home game of the playoffs, and suddenly it's
and you know, end of days sort of scenario. Aaron
Jones is there, started running back. He joined us on
the doug Otlip Show. Care of the Good Folks at
Panini America. Aaron, how are you? I'm doing good at
(23:06):
you great man? Um. How would you characterize your season personal? Uh?
I would character we're out on my season. Uh I
would say it was a good season. You know, you
have your ups and downs. Uh. But at the end,
we didn't. We didn't finish and get to where we
wanted to. So I feel like we felt a little short.
But uh, I feel like the regular season we uh
(23:27):
we handed our business and did a great job. But
at the end of the day, it's about finishing it. Um.
Aaron got the other aeron You're the errand he's the
other errand got the m v P Award last night. Um.
Can we read anything between the lines into his speech? UM?
To me, I think it just showed how happy he
(23:49):
is in in Green Bay, and UM, how close him
and Matt Lafour. He he personally thanked him. Um, he
told him this is this is, this is part of you.
I love you. Um. So I just I just got
the vibe. I gotta good vibe, you gotta you gotta
good You've got a good vibe. That's that's getting us,
that's getting us good vibes. Um, So how do you
handle it? Right? Do you text him? Do you? Are
(24:12):
you just kind of let him like, what's what's your
process going to be? Like? Uh, I know you want
to you want twelve to be back to be your quarterback,
But how do you handle it? I just I just
worry about myself really, um, because I know how a
right is. He's he's a person where he he's worrying
about what he's doing today, where he's, where he's, where
his feet are. Um. And I believe in that as well.
(24:34):
But at the same time, I just focus on myself.
What can I do to get better? Um? How can
I continue to enhance my game so that when I
do get on So, whether it's a Rod or somebody
else that, Um, I'm I'm helping. I'm attributing to something.
Are you are you gonna watch on Sunday? Because I
I asked, not just because you lost, but you guys
(24:55):
beat both of these teams. You're like both we meat
both of them. I'm sick. I'm sick. I'm so sick.
I feel like it was it was our year. But
I think that's one of the things in the league. Uh.
I think this is one of them. This is one
of the more more competitive years it's been in the league. Uh.
Anybody had a chance to win it. Uh. And you
love to see that. Uh. It keeps everybody entertained into it.
(25:20):
If I would have told you the Bengals or the
Rams would be in the Super which which would have
been harder to believe because the Bengals took you guys
to overtime right at the Rams in Week five. I
knew since then that they were a really good team. Um.
We we squeezed out of there, like you said, um,
and overtime due to a couple of miss field goals
they missed, we missed. We was able to hit it
(25:42):
at the end. But I knew from right then and
they were a good team and uh and they showed
it the rest of the year. They kept playing consistently. UM.
I wouldn't say people have slept on them, but they did.
I feel like people didn't see them as a one
of the top teams, and they just kept proving themselves.
No question. What about the Rams. What does impress you
about the Rams? Uh? A little number? The defense. You know,
(26:06):
I played offense, so I'll go against their defense. Their
passed rus Uh. You know you you gotta be able
to get the ball out kind of quickly. Uh, because
they have some guys up front, not just there, and
Donald put some some other guys as well, and then
uh on on the back end and they played his
one and they swarmed their fast defense. Um, we played
this past year as well, and UM, I really think
(26:29):
they're a good team. And then Matthew Stafford, I think
he's just a huge difference maker. I mean you see
what I played against them in Detroit to you uh
for uh two years to two games every year. Sorry,
And I knew then he was he was like that,
and um you see what happened when he was able
to change situations and environments. Yeah, is it Isn't that? Really?
(26:52):
The story is that on some level is that if
you find the right fit like that that guys who
are are super super talented, if you find the right fit,
that's when you're really there's plenty of dudes that are
good players. Even O b J. Right O J looked
like he was kind of washed in Cleveland. Now he
looks re energized, even as at number two he's having
(27:13):
that that it's about more about fit sometimes and actually
how good you are, Yes, sir, a percent agree with that,
and just like opportunity as well. You know, um, the
fit is everything, and um, I'm glad I sit in
the system perfectly with Coast before and everything. But you know,
you see some players who never get that opportunity, who
don't fit, or you see players who, like you said,
(27:34):
like Odell you he was he was having them down here.
He looked, like you said, kind of washed. But then
you switch his teams and he's back to plant how
he was. And um, so sometimes it's not the player.
It could be like the situation that they're in or
you never know what's going on. So that's all that's
the tough part. But you're like you're you know, as
a parent, you're wondering, like what's going on, like this
(27:56):
is one of my favorite players. Yeah, it's it's it's
it's hard for for people to understand that if you're
not used in the right way, you're not going to
succeed or you know, I mean for you like two
years ago, you had an unbelievable career year and you
and a J like that's a good tandem. And both
of you guys have worked through some injuries and other
stuff and you're and and work through the line going
(28:17):
through some injuries right back, tr being out all year
like all these things, all these things affect things where
you can actually have a better You can be a
better player, but not have a better year because of it.
And that's that's the thing. Like speciftically, you may not
have the year you want to have, but like when
you cut on the film and you're being great, you
might actually have a better year than you had the
(28:38):
year before. But like you said, some of those things,
um you're rolling in rookies mid season or um guys
are just getting reps and you're trying to bring it
all together. Um, but I think, uh, young guys did
a great job stepping up, and um I'm I'm proud
of them and I look forward to continue to work
with them. Um. Okay, So how many of how many
(28:59):
of your own Panini trading cards you have? Right? Do
you have like a whole stash of them? You know?
So I think it's pretty cool that, like with trading
cards because when I was younger, um, my dad had
got me into it and um to see it just
like the whole way, like the cards come back out
and people be back into it. And I still have
my my it's a red Barger and hold Me and
(29:22):
my brother both have it and it's a little NFL,
NBA cards, Baseball all three and um we used so
we used to collect and we still do. But I
think the coolest thing is that I'm on our Car's
like wow, not that I made it, but wow, like
this is this was part of my dream and it's
it's coming true. So like you said, I do have
a huge collection in myself. To grow up in El
(29:44):
Paso and now being Green Bay and be a star
and have your own Panini Trading car, that's that's that's
bigger than that's bigger than car wash. By the way,
I'm big. Oh hey, you know I'll pass over you
know H and H car wash. That's crazy for for
people who know Hi age car wash. You being a
native of El pass not just you tap but going
(30:04):
uh going to high school there, Burgess High School. Okay,
it's a taco place and car wash and the tacos
are and like tacos in El Paso. That's a high bar, right,
there's lots of places where you can get unbelievable tacos.
That's set the bar pretty high in all console for tacos. Yeah,
it's it's hard. But um, now that that's so crazy.
(30:24):
You know that place they literally in college, I played
at you tap as well and they would literally, uh,
bring those breakfast every morning, breakfast Burrito's breakfast tacos and
we we would eat h and age car wash foop.
Like that's crazy. But what they need to have his
need to have some Panini training cards of yours up
on the wall, right, that doesn't need that. They need
to do that like that, and then then you're good.
(30:45):
Then anytime you go home, you get free tacos. That's
that's I think I need to arrange this. You just
gave me an idea. I'm I'm taking them a card
when I get back. Eric, congrats on a on an
outstanding year. We really appreciate your time and joining us
on Fox Sports Radio. Yes, sorry, thank you, pleasures all ours.
That's proboil running back for the Green Bay Packers Aaron Jones. Um,
(31:07):
we want to take a moment real quick. Uh, Lee
Mayock and Jason Stewart running around like chickens with their
heads cut off, all these guests, which, by the way,
you can download, uh this in podcast form. Well, so
we we have actually how many interviews that we did? There? Five?
Are we supposed to admit this on the air? Hey? John,
could you clean this up and post? No? No? Yeah,
(31:30):
we we just we must still left the half dozen
interviews on the cutting room form, but we're there on
the Well be on digital? Yeah, well Bill be a
digital will we'll put him out there? Uh? Ed McCaffrey,
I know is one? Who else? What you got? Adrian Peterson?
Adrian Peterson was really good? Actually Adrian Peterson, who was
really upset that Dan Buyer tweeted that he was out
(31:50):
with osteoporosis. But he did. He told us why he
didn't run as hard as he thought he could have
during his first game in Tennessee. You have to listen
to the podcast find out what pick Bud Kiss, who
for eighty years old like he was in a zone
talking about his faculty. Definitely has all his faculties. What
else you got? A who got those? Joe Biden interview
with Joe Biden. Yeah, there's a Joe Biden one hit
(32:12):
that one right. Uh. I thought I thought what he
said about the efficacy of vaccines, but that was amazing.
But he didn't order to hear you got to download
the ball podcast. But he used to be a tail
back in college. I didn't know that. Um. Uh the
(32:33):
a Lincoln interview. Also it's not Garrett No, but I'm serious.
We have like six or seven of them. John Rambos,
Bo Benson, Uh, Andrea Chila also really helpful. Um Don
Martin who came in pretending like he was doing a
bunch of stuff. And Paulson did a great job. Also
Doug sits down with the homeless guy that tried to
(32:53):
hit John's car. Uh sit down interview two parter um
Scott Shapiro who uh he did an excellent job. To
Yardhouse for for for cooking food for us. And to
our guy Elijah who all the digital content you'll see.
And I haven't seen Elijah in like six months. Right,
(33:15):
Whaha was here? I think from eight am when I
would get here take food or it never leaves to go,
never takes any gifts. I don't know. I don't know
what's going on here. Seriously, like Elijah want to eat now,
I'm good. Elijah wants coffee now I'm good. You know,
I'm just gonna have my water sit over here and
uh and and fill ball this time. So literally responsible
for everything you see on the Fox Ports radio, social
(33:35):
media and digital. He's he's the guy, right and he
wouldn't take any like he want to take a burger. No,
would not take a burger. No, not not so much.
All right, we're gonna get to the press, which includes
we gotta get to this Russell west west Russell Westbrook quote.
That's that's amazing way Deo Russell Westbrook said about why
his back is bothering him. Be sure to catch the
live edition of The Doug gott Leap Show week days
(33:56):
at three pm Easter noon Pacific. Hey up, everybody, it's
me three time pro bowler La Barrington and I couldn't
be more excited to announce a new podcast called Up
on Game? What is Up on Game? You asked, along
with my fellow pro bowler t J. Hudshman's otta and
Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right, Plexico Birds. You can
(34:17):
only name a show with that type of talent on it.
Up on Game. We're going to be sharing our real
life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen to up on
Game with Me, LaVar Arrington, t J hudgmans Otta and
Plexico Birds on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast
or wherever you get your podcast from. Down On On
(34:44):
It On It Down Imperial Highway, MC master d hitting
my side. We had this hand in the wins this
week on the run, Roll down the Window, putting down
the top, Crank out the Beach Boys. Doug got him
(35:05):
show live from Los Angeles Radio Row Just Canner. When
you hear this song in l A usually means Lakers
win or the Dodgers win. I've never been to a
King's game, so I don't know. I think Diane Cannon
first to the east side. Everybody very happy because the
(35:26):
sun is shotting. You know it's that's a sarcastic line,
right date. I love l A. I'd like to do
my own version of the song. Sitting in traffic for
two hours all day. We love it. Oh that's why
(35:47):
my backs are. Let's let's get to the press. The press.
The press is brought to you by Betriver Sports Book,
the most trusted name and online sports betting gotta be
twenty one president in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania. Play Gay
probably got one eight Gamblet's pet Rivers sports book, dan
By what he got? Doug Russell Westbrooks saying that he
felt his comfort in his back against the Bucks earlier
(36:08):
this week because he's not accustomed to sitting down for
long stretches. That is the reason why the back tightened
up for Russell Westbrooks. So what's been going on the
rest of the season, Russell? That says my question like, Okay,
you're not used to sitting since long stretch is clearly
a shot at your head coach for sitting you. What
(36:30):
is what was it back discomfort the entire year that's
had you shoot so poorly? What about turnovers? Russell? The
the Lakers just need to give him a better chair,
like you what at work right that Lebron You get
down Lebron throne chair. This feels like one of those
guilt trips that your wife are significant other gives you.
It's like, honey, you have a headache or something. Yeah,
(36:52):
so many microaggressions from my husband and my my my
brain hurt. They should get him a stand up desk
to use on the side. That's like, that's like, why
are you I didn't sleep, but why don't you sleep? Well? Well,
you were storing all night, yes, exactly, and your breath
is horrendous. I want to say, yeah, do you know
what your boy Carson Palmer said about Joe Burrow No
(37:15):
speaking uh with the NBC, saying that I think that
Joe is gonna sit back after this game winner losing,
be like, man, am I going to resign with this team?
Are they willing to do what it takes to continuously
build to get back to the next Super Bowl? Part
of the quote, I look, I love Carson. He carries
a true and honest negative bias towards his former team
(37:37):
because if you know the story, and what will you Carstons?
And I think I know he's told he's on Dan
Patrick all year as well, But you know the story.
He signed the biggest contract in the history of sports.
They Chimov and Olaf Herrell up on his knee. But
the reason he retired several years later was he said,
I'm only signed this contract if you guys promised to
reinvest in all of us. And there was a lot
of things they didn't do I think those are the
(37:59):
those are those are the days of the past. To
be honest, they invested in their defensive line and free agency,
they have drafted for their offensive line. They need to
continue to build the offensive line. But like I, Carson
has to be reasonable with this. Like Joe Burrows not
going anywhere, I'm not going anywhere. Yeah, he's also in
year two. He's in year two. It's a five year
(38:19):
deal plus then they maintain your rights for two years
after that. He's not going anywhere. The NFL Network reports
that tout n C J Zama expected to play in
Super Bowl fifty six, but Tyler Higby and the Rams won't.
Tied End placed on injured reserve with his knee injury.
With the growing and with a growing injury, Higbie a
gut decent part of the Rams offense. Not a huge
(38:41):
part of what they do, yes, but it would be
nice to have him off there. Zama is a bigger part,
considering the Rams have struggled against tight ends over the
middle of the field. The steakhouse that Barrett urban Meyer's
name in Columbus, Ohio is being sold and, according to
Awful Announcing, will be rebranded so Urban's chop house will
be no more so it'll be rebund it. I don't
(39:02):
know what a day all day that could be that
would be pretty good. Could a variety of different ways
toxic in in Columbus. I feel like Columbus are like, ah, well,
he's honest, that's where the that's where the whole you know,
dance thing and picture thing went down. So and honestly
(39:23):
it may be more of the business deal than anything else.
Get out. Finally, before we weigh in with our Super
Bowl predictions, speaking of the Super Bowl, could Super Bowl
sixty we headed to London while English soccer club Tottenham
Hotspur is thinking about formulating a bid to try to
host the Super Bowl. That talking about talking about slim
(39:44):
and none and none left left town. You know, you
got the all these new stadiums. Obviously l A is
gonna be in the rotation. I think Vegas gonna be
in the rotation. Arizona will see if they go back
to Tampa. You got Miami and you have you know,
Dallas is a maybe with the ice room last time
they had it. I don't see it getting in London. No,
don't see it going to London. And that is the
(40:06):
pay get out there in press. That was the Press
Sampayre Super Bowl prediction. Go. I am picking the Rams
to win. Final score twenty four to sixteen win and
a covert. Well that's a cover and the under, Um,
I'll go. Let's see nineteen to six Rams. We gotta
do nineteen six to them. The two fields under Ramos.
(40:30):
Rams to lose that game. Rams, he's doing the reverse psychology,
reverse psychology psychologist twenty four twenty three. Bengals beat the Rams.
Bengals beat the Rams and get the under as as well.
My thanks to Jason Stewart's Dan Buyer, to Elijah, to
(40:50):
our entire crew, and to John Ramos for only getting
us in trouble once the one day he came. This
is Doug Otam Show
