you're doing well. The Doug got Liap Show broadcast everyday live.
I'm sunny southern California. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome in um. There's
an athlete called there's a podcast called I Am an
Athlete podcast and Brandon Mark Sprandon Marshall's podcast right, and
(00:51):
they had Kyrie Irving on. So here's what I want
to do. I want to I want to play it
for you and then we don't want to parse it
kind of go piece by piece. He was asked why
he left or asked to be traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Here's I asked for a trade because I was looking
for something different. I was a man of my word.
When I went to the organization. I sat in the
higher ups down and say, look, I know you have
(01:13):
future plans. Tell me right now. They told me their
future plans. I said, look, I'm not this isn't for me.
I didn't get a chance to talk to Bron before
the media ended up coming out and saying that I
asked for a trade. So I go over to China
and I'm on my Nike tour. Somehow the news gets
leaked while I'm in China. I'm not even on American
(01:33):
soil right now, so I can't even get on to
defend myself. Okay. Um just by the way part for
the course of Kyrie Irving where he's playing the victim, right,
he's a victim of the big bad media, big bad
media because the media got a story that was accurate
(01:55):
while he was in China, and I guess she expected
them to sit on the story. There's so many things,
so um Ron, let's do this for me. Um. Let's
just kind of go piece by piece, right, So I
want you to listen to the first part because the
first part this jumped out at me, he said. He
(02:19):
starts by saying, I asked to be traded. Okay, So
the first part say I asked to be traded makes
the end where he complains about the media reporting that
he asked to be traded somehow it being inaccurate. But
listen again to what he said. He said, I sat
down the higher ups, go ahead. I asked for a
trade because I was looking for something different. I was
(02:42):
a man of my word when I went to the organization.
I sat the higher ups down and say, look, I
know you have future plans. Tell me right now. They
told me their future plans. I say, look, I'm not
this isn't for me. Okay, so hold on real quick.
So he says. First, he says, I sat them down.
I mean that's a little I mean that's more than
(03:03):
a little arrogant. I sat them down. That's I told
them you sat you set them down, or you said, hey,
can we can we chat about something I got. I
guess some stuff I'd love to talk about. Okay. Then
he says, I, you know I asked to be trade.
I had some concerns. I asked them their future plans.
(03:24):
He didn't tell us. And this is part of not
having somebody who's more experienced interviewer. Uh. With the pod,
there's no follow up to the what was it about
their future plans that you didn't like. You're coming off
a championship, right in championship, but then you lose the
next year. What about your future plans did you not
(03:45):
What about their future plans? Did you not like? Um?
And then he asked to be traded. Okay, go to
the next part. I didn't get a chance to talk
to bron before the media ended up coming out and
saying okay, wait, wait, wait wait um okay. So Jason Stewart,
(04:07):
you've worked locally, you've worked naturally, you worked television all
within the last five years. Right. Uh, let's say there's you,
there's you go to Scott Shapiro and you say, look,
it's either me or Ryan Music. Ryan's my former producers
now with the Herd, Right, it's me or him? Or
(04:30):
you go to see you. If you sit down Don
Martin and Scott Shapiro and you say you sit them down,
by the way, I love that, that would go over well.
And then you listen to their future plans, you don't
like it. You walk out the door, and you've got
an upcoming trip coming up with your lady. Is it
that hard to send a text to Ryan Music about
(04:51):
what's coming out? Yeah, that's the thing. Like he says
that he couldn't call Lebron but a text email some
kind of hay, just a heads up. Yeah, that's that's
very it's a very um within the bounds of twenty
you know, two thousand seventeen or whatever this was, you
could definitely communicate that way, no question. Anybody in the
(05:13):
world can be found their cell phone, and that's considerate.
That means you're considering other people. And then of course
there's the pathetic attack on the media, like the media
did something wrong because he has to be traded, and
he even said he asked to be traded. So so
help me out what what part of the story makes
him look better. Yeah, there isn't a whole lot of
(05:37):
this this story that makes him look good. Um. I
do like the fact that he says that, and I'm
there in China and the news breaks and there's nothing
I could do, as if they don't have satellites anymore,
you can't you can't communicate if you're in a foreign country. Um.
But now, none of this story adds up to me.
It just sounds like he was a baby who wanted
(05:58):
his way, didn't care how it was going to impact
anybody or any other business, and uh, he left for China. Yeah,
and while you're in China, I mean, they have some
pretty good tech in China. Like if you want to
put out a statement, if you want to do a
little video on your social media, even in two thousand
and seventeen, you could like this. Well, I couldn't speak
(06:19):
for myself. You did. You asked to be traded like nothing,
zero opinion has changed, except you haven't told us what
you didn't like that made you want to be traded.
Other than that, tell me what we got wrong. Now
you want to be traded. But then you you didn't
talk to Lebron. He never voiced your concerns to him,
(06:40):
And that's why you're feeling a little bit bit of
guilt at by am I missing anything on this one?
Is there is there something which somehow um relieves Kyrie
of of any sort of blame for the breakup of
the calves that makes that should make him feel better
right now? Well, in his defense, Lebron wasn't doing a
Twitter Q and A, so maybe he wasn't able to
(07:00):
reach out. Um. I mean, I think that there could
be an argument that could be made that maybe Kyrie
should have spoken with Lebron first. But yeah, before you
went in, yes that instead of that's the first uh situation.
But I don't know. Yeah, it doesn't the the access
portion of it. Yeah, it's just it's not again, not
(07:23):
taking responsibility for any of his decisions, always put in
a bad spot. Yes, yes, when you're That's the difference
in a child and an adult, right, There's a couple
of differences. One, no adult would ever turn down a nap,
right Like if I said to you right now, like,
would you get take a nap, be like, oh my god,
it's amazing, sounds amazing. And the other part is, you know,
(07:43):
adults say my bad children or people act immature. It's
everybody else's fault. I'm sorry to interrupt. I was just
gonna say, I know I've said this before on the show,
but getting married helped me so much in being able
to figure out the right way to apologize or being
in a long term relationship, and it makes it a
(08:06):
lot easier. There's your maybe you have more uh, you
know what's about you? You you have a you have
an idea of where you actually are and so too.
And I'm not saying that Kyrie's relationship status plays a
part in it, but for me, there was a there
was a growth process of it, and it wasn't until
I got into a serious relationship and got married that
I understood the real value and power of an apology,
(08:30):
which also allowed me to realize that, guess what, maybe
I do things wrong myself, and I think that could
that could benefit Kyrie, that maybe he's not always right,
that sometimes it is his fault. Ramos. I think that's
just the way we are in general. I think this country,
most countries, most people never ever ever want to admit
(08:52):
that they're wrong, never wanted to admit that it's their fault.
It's just it's innately in many people. I would say,
I wouldn't say everybody, but I would say the majority
of people always have an answer. You know, I again
my team. The ball got hit to him and it
went by him, and I said, hey, I almost got it.
He goes. You know, the sun the sun blared me
and there was no sun. I mean, it was no
(09:13):
work close. But that's what kids do, right, They make explaces,
they blame somebody else for their mistakes, and as we
get older, I don't know if we really get out
of that. Maybe certain people do, but for the majority,
there's always somebody. There's always an answer to something. Besides,
you know what I just made, really made a bad
mistake there. I'm really sorry. Not that you're gonna not that,
(09:34):
Doug or you or anybody to be like, okay, well
that that makes it go away, But at least it
shows a little bit of like, you know that you
are telling the truth, and you might get rid of it,
you might get by it. You still might get in
trouble for it, but at least you showed some sense
and some care that it was your fault. Oh, I
totally agree there. You know, it's interesting. I was I think,
(09:56):
I don't know. I told you guys on air. Off air.
So we we actually played my AU team played against
Matt Barnes team. Matt Barnes's team is like the best
or second best seventh grade team in the country, and
we didn't have all our our dudes because we were
kind of playing in two different tournaments at once. And
one of my best kids did play, but was exhausted
because he had played two earlier in the day, you know,
(10:18):
out in an area where it's really hot and whatever,
and and they're better than us, and they would have
likely one just because their size and skill. But I
was disappointed with a couple of guys efforts in you know,
like breaking a press. You know we have a press breaker.
I tell somebody to take the ball and bounds. That's
the person I want to take the ball in the bounds.
(10:38):
If it doesn't go, if it doesn't work out because
I have the wrong guy taking it in, well then
that's on me. You guys do your own thing and
it doesn't work out, that's on you. Well. I had
a kid who's very talented. Is actually his birthday yesterday,
and you know, against any zone press, you have to
get somebody in the middle. Doesn't mean you have to
throw it to him, but there has to be the threat.
That's the weak spot in a zone and in a
(11:00):
full court zone press. And he didn't get there. And
so when I called time out, it's late in the game,
we're getting beat and I said, you know, you're not there,
and he gave me an excuse, and he gave me
another excuse, and you knows, you guys, I said, hey,
just say I screwed up. Just say I was wrong,
and then we move on. Right, So he did. And
(11:23):
then we move on, which is it's really hard to
get people out of that thing to where they're like, well,
there's this, there's that, like all that stuff is fun.
I told you were to be you consistently wouldn't be there,
and we're not doing well against it. So just admit
you're not doing it. Your your job correctly. So I
agree with you, right, almost a getting guy people to
be accountable for it. But this is like Kyrie one
O one, it's always somebody else, it's always something else.
(11:45):
Nobody understands him, nobody gets him. The media is all
out to get him, Like, no, we're not. So let
me get the straight Kyrie. You go tell the team
you want to be traded. It gets out while you're
in China and the media is supposed to wait for you.
By the way, when that story released, there's no question
they called your agent first and said, here's the story
(12:07):
we have. Do you want to do you want to
comment on it? No, And at that point in time,
I'm sure the text went out to Kyrie overseas, Hey,
they're gonna say that that that you want to be traded.
Let's let's figure out what we want to do if
you want to form a response, which of course you
can do from China. That whole thing is stupid. I
(12:28):
think Kyrie thinks for dumb and thinks he's smarter than everybody.
Well to your what are your points that you made? Um,
there wasn't any pushback to that answer. In fact, if
you watch the video, it's um Brandon Marshall, but uh
Lashawn McCoy is the other in the entire time, he's
just like, yeah, oh yeah, Like they just were kind
(12:48):
of like agreeing with Oh yeah. That's that's how everyone
handles things. That's you're perfectly justified in what you did there.
They're not only was there a pushback, but there was
almost like an encouragement in the room that that's of course,
that's it went down completely. That's how it went down.
Did not follow up, did not ask the question what
specifically did they say? Was there were their plans for
(13:10):
the future, And he says that, then what parts of
that didn't you? Not like, if your valued customer to

(13:32):
Show weekdays at three pm Easter noon Pacific show Fox
Sports Radio. Welcome in. I got some predictions for you
on the Eastern Conference Finals upcoming. We'll get to that momentarily,
but first let's talk some pucks to lies. What got
(13:58):
So we don't really pay much tension to hockey, but
we fake it pretty well. And Gen Ramos is our
hockey analyst. So what we do is we tell him
three stories, to which are lies in one is accurate.
That's the one cup, two lies and one cup. We'll
go to Pierre first for the first story. John, the
(14:20):
maple Leaf Star Mitch Mrner was rubbed at gunpoint in
Toronto last night. Yeah, yeah, that doesn't sound great, John,
This is the this is the real one. Um. The
Canucks promoted Van Couvert to be their VP of hockey operations.
(14:42):
All right, John, this is the truth. Arizona exercise the
option on the contract of defenseman coy Otis for the season.
These are all very good by the way. Uh, that's
gonna be tough. But I do know one thing. The
(15:03):
one of the ones that is not correct is Vancouver
for the Canucks because that would be Vancouver, right, my
right on that one that is correct. By the way,
that was very very good by Jason Stewart's Vancouver Vancouver
(15:23):
v um. Did you I apologize? Did you say coyotis
for Arizona? Is that what you said? Their defenseman, coyotis. Okay?
That My my pick is gonna be the Doug Gottlieb.
(15:45):
Doug Gottlib has the puck, all right? Is that right? Yes?
It is not that we're celebrating Mitch Marner getting robbed
at gunpoint, but it was card jack last night in Toronto.
Scary situation, but the Maple Leaves were eliminated in front
the playoffs by the Lightning and seven games and Martin
are not available for the team's exit interviews today because
(16:07):
of the situation last night. That's crazy. He was car
jacking the g t O, the g t O the
Greater Toronto area kind of like, uh, g t A right,
grand theft auto. Yeah, that was the the coyotis there was?
That was very good. Uh, happened. They said, like Monday night,
(16:30):
he was in this range rover and uh yeah, robbed
that gunpoint. So but Coyotas is just Arizona coyotes. That's
his first name was coy yes, and then coyotis that. Uh.
I wish I knew enough about maple leafs hockey to
(16:53):
come up with an easy joke about something getting ripped
off or stolen or just like jackings are always good
yeah or not? Man, there were no games last night,
so that's why we had to kind of veer. But
the jackie seems like an older seems like it doesn't
seem like a recent thing, right, I guess it still happens.
(17:17):
But like stealing cars, like they could track all your cars? Now,
Like what is the can't they and don't Usually when
they car jack you, don't they usually kick you out
of the car and just take your car. They don't
really rob you, right, They kind of just kind of
get out of the car and then they jump in
and you they take off, right. But like the thing
about when you get out of a car, when you
part the car in the garage, right, do you have
(17:39):
your wallet on you or do you have it? Like
in your center console, do I personally? Yeah, in your pocket?
In my pocket? Yeah? Okay, Like, how long does it
take you together? Give your cell phone? You get to
eat your wallet a couple of minutes, you know, right,
throws you off? I mean, plus you have the gun points.
You're kind of freaking out. Yeah, the whole Yeah, they
the whole gun point situation. Mused. I don't know if
(18:01):
they took the vehicle. I don't know what they took
from him. I don't know what was but police are
continuing to investigate the matter. In the t Dot In
the t Dot Doug Gottlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, uh,
there's there's a lot of stuff I want to get
to with these uh these Conference Finals series. Eric Spoelster,
(18:21):
by the way, with a riveting preview of the heat
taking up of the heat taking on the Celtics. I mean, like, look,
this should be clipped for any TV executive who wants
to sell this series to their buddies to come watch.
This is Eric Spoelstra on the series. I told you
(18:42):
it was riveting. I told you it was riveting, right boy.
This this is like a throwback series. I mean, if
if both teams are really on top of their games.
This shouldn't be of a series where Peter team is
scoring a hunt points both of us. Both teams are
hanging their hats on rock solid team defense and Bacon
multiple efforts and being disciplined to schemes and you know,
(19:04):
so it'll be a lot of plays and things in
the margins. And that's that's what you expect. I mean, really,
we're the two best teams in the East most of
the season. That's fitting that we're meeting on the conference finals.
Do we have a Chris Middleton updates or any chance
he plays in the series? There, dan By, I wish, oh,
I wish. I just don't see it without him. I
(19:28):
just didn't see I don't see that. I mean, I
I just well, I thought you were joking. I thought no, no,
I was I was just like Marcus Smart, is that
who you meant? Sorry, That's what I was looking at
Chris Middleton's thing, and I was trying to talk about
it like it's the two best teams. I thought the
Bucks were Actually there was a time which they were
the best team in the East. Um, I thought it
(19:49):
was injuries that kind of derailed them. I'm i was
parsing his words, and I was looking at Chris Middleton
and I meant, Marcus Smart. Do we have a Marcus
Smart injury update? Game time decision? Okay? And then Robert
Williams is bad full go, there's no restrictions on him
for the Celtic. So if Marcus Smart plays and as
relatively healthy, they're as healthy as I can be. So
we do have two fully healthy teams. Although we don't
(20:10):
have a Lowry update right Lowry's out uh and p J.
Tucker and Max Strus are questionable, okay, as is Gabe Vincent.
This is a hard This is a hard series for
Lowry because getting caught up on the switches with his
big guards, especially now where he is athletically. Um, it'll
be it'll be interesting. Um. I just I like the
(20:30):
Celtics in this series. And and here's my logic that
there are times in which scoring wise, they heat are
a little bit challenge right, Like Jimmy Butler finds a
way to find points, but I don't think he's like
a traditional score like he does a lot of things.
Scoring is just one of them. Whereas I think they
need Tyler hero and to a lesser extent max Struce.
(20:52):
The Celtics, on the other hand, of their their best five,
you have two of them are the legit scores and
score weapons, right, so I you know, you don't have
to kind of change your lineup that much. Both teams
can do small ball. Obviously PJ. Tucker is more experienced.
He's done and he played in the NBA Finals last
year with the Bucks, whereas Grant Williams is not. But
(21:14):
Grant Williams does have fresh legs and had you know,
did make seven threes in the last game. I favored
the Celtics in the series, but I think it's a
pretty competitive series. Just when you're spoiser, you're trying to
sell the people, you're like, oh, it's the little things,
it's the new ones, it's the switch. You're like, You're like, dude,
that's it's great for his basketball guys. I don't know
if it's fun for everybody else. It does feel like
(21:36):
a throwback series that sends I don't think it's I
don't think it's fun for a lot of people, and
outside of Jason Tatum, of the star power of it,
which is, you know what, we think that the NBA
hangs its head on so much. I mean, any game
ESPN has in a graphic, they have in huge four
(21:59):
font letters Curry versus don Chech and underneath it says Warriors,
and like eight size font Warriors versus Mavericks, and so
in this game, is Jason Tatum gonna be the one
to bring you in if you're a casual fan? Is uh?
Is Jimmy Butler going to be that guy? I don't
think it is. And I hate, I hate to talk
of is this good for the you know, right, because
(22:20):
I don't think anybody talks about that. But in terms
of like, if you're gonna pick a night to sit
down and watch the NBA playoffs, you're watching the Western
Conference final question, and it just seems more fun, doesn't Sure,
it seems more fun. I think if if if this
was Milwaukee and Philadelphia, I think you could say, wow, okay,
that could be you know, Janice and Embide that sort
(22:42):
of thing. But even the brand of the Celtics doesn't
doesn't do it. No, I agree, it's not. It's not
a slight on them. I don't believe. It's just the
way in which they play, in the way which they've
been able to be uh, to be successful, which can
I I want to throw this out because I heard this.
I can't remember where heard it, but I was actually
thinking about this for my own shows about a week
(23:04):
ago and trying to figure out brands of the n
b A. I think that we all agree that the
Lakers brand is probably the strongest of any of the
thirty teams in the NBA. Is that fair to say? Yes? Yes, yes,
I mean I think Celtics are closed. That was going
to be my question, I do the do the Is
the Warriors brand more appealing yes, right now than Boston? Probably? Yeah?
(23:29):
I think so too. Recency bias, I mean for a
younger generation absolutely, and older generation it's a little bit mixed.
I still think the Celtics. Remember six of the TV
viewer sports TV viewers in the country live in the
Eastern time zone. Okay, Um, that's that has not I
believe changed in the last twenty years. That that somewhere
in two thirds of the people that watch sports on
(23:50):
TV watch in the Eastern time zone. So even the
ones that may prefer the Warriors are gonna watch the Celtics.
But I do think that the Warriors are probably you know,
they've won three titles. They have Steph Curry. They play
a fun style. You know sometimes you hate watch Draymond
Green as well. You rout from New way in or
route from the lose. Yeah, I would say that in
(24:10):
terms of recency, yes, and a younger generation. Yes. What
they have going against him is Western Pacific time zone.
But the Lakers are number one, you know, like that's
that's the other part of it where it's so we're
to me, it's like the Warriors have been around forever,
but they just seem new, you know, they seem new,
they seem fresh, and even other good teams, like you know,
(24:32):
for the Spurs and they're great run that we all
knew who the Spurs were, but it wasn't like their
brand was that appealing. And the Knicks have been off
so much. I mean, if the Knicks are are good,
then maybe the rankings change. But I just think for
what Boston is lately and for how good the Warriors
have been, that there's a real discussion on if Golden
(24:52):
State is maybe the second most popular brand in the NBA.
That's a great question. Um, I don't know who else
would be in that discussion, right and and and this
is a little bit of the lebronization of it. You know,
where he switched teams so many times that there's no
you know that even if he would have built up
(25:15):
the popularity of whether it's Cleveland or Miami, had he stayed,
Miami has been I mean, you want to talk about
a franchise that's constantly reinvented itself and been able to
be successful. But there's just, for whatever reason, not a
ton of Miami. There's more now than there you ever
used to be, but it's not like a good, big
(25:35):
brand the Bulls. I think that the Bulls were back
and they were really competitive. You'd see a lot of
Bulls popularity even though there's like twenty years in between
their competitiveness. Um, the Knicks are still very popular in
New York lover room or hat. Um, nobody else in
the Eastern Seaboard really really matches up. You know, Toronto
(25:57):
has been the father. In Toronto, they're popular, but they've
have been popular state sidewise. It's a great point you make,
and I think I'm gonna say yes, you know, part
of it is you have a couple of these other
stars on the second team in their market, right like
Durant and and and Kyrie being in Brooklyn. Totally different
story there with the Knicks. And then you have Kauai
(26:19):
and Paul George that are on the Clippers. Totally different
story if they're in the Lakers. Yeah. And if if
Golden State wasn't in the Bay Area, in you know,
with San Francisco, San Jose in Oakland, maybe it's a
different story. Maybe, you know, maybe if that same team
is in Portland, it's not the same. No disrespect Blazers,
but I think that they've got this city, the style,
(26:43):
the success, and I think that brand is so powerful
right now that it it stands out more so than
Boston's even does completely agree with you. Doug gotlip show
rolls on Fox Sports Trading. Okay, So, I I do
hate the We haven't seen the series. We don't know
who's gonna be healthy for which games pick them in
in in how many games? I do like the Celtics
(27:05):
in this series. Um, I think there'll be a couple
of games. I do think it's gonna go at least six,
maybe seven, just because you know, perfect example is they
shot the hell out of it on Sunday. The likehood
against this defense with this physicality they shoot it that well, again,
isn't great. On the other hand, as you pointed out,
(27:27):
it's not like the Heat are healthy, and I do
think the Heat need to be healthy in order to
win this series. So tonight I'll just give you guys
the line on tonight's game. Okay, so tonight you have
and I love this. I love that the one game
on like it just gives you a chance to really
enjoy one game, even if you don't love the play
of this game as much as you love the other one.
(27:48):
My name is at two point favorite. The over under
is two oh three and a half, which gives into
something me and Jay Stu talked about before the show,
like two oh three and a half the first one
to a hundred and two wins hikes that feels that
feels low scoring. I would take the over, and I
would take the Celtics to come in and get a
win because the Heat aren't healthy. M M, what do
(28:09):
you got? I like Miami tonight, and I think the
short turnaround for Boston. I think they put a lot
in Game seven and so I think the rest is
going to help Miami. So I take the Heat tonight
and I'll just go with an off night for Boston.
So I'll take the under on that under on that
JA what you got, Um, let's see. My interest level
(28:30):
in this series is minimal, but I am gonna go
with the Celtics. I think the Heat are a really
good team, but I I need the Celtics to win
because if the Heat make the finals, no matter who
they're playing, it's gonna be less interesting. So I'm rooting
for Celtics and I'm rooting for Warriors. That's that's why
I think that's a great point. By the way, that's
(28:51):
a that's a very very good point. Um, that would
be interesting. Yeah, I mean, I think the NBA can't
lose with Luca or the Warrior is in the finals.
The Warriors more so then, but but they it doesn't
help if it's Miami, if it's if it's Boston. Even
though Boston is pretty tough defensively, you know, they can
(29:12):
have they can have times which it's not pretty to
watch them. Right when the ball is not going in.
They shoot a lot of threes and it's not great.
I would agree with you, though, the NBA is in
good shape, better shape if it's Boston, then it's Miami
before John gives his pick. Dallas is also a team
that plays pretty good defense, but we don't talk about
it because all we talk about is Luca. You know.
It's that's Uh. It's funny how that conversation turns. It is, John,
(29:37):
what who do you like tonight? I'm with Miami and
the under I agree that the both teams are kind
of time. But my question is, and I never understand this,
why is it? Why is Miami in the NBA? Why
are they in the NBA? Then I don't understand, like,
if Wow, the NBA would rather have this to that,
so then if they'd rather have that, then why are we?
Why is the MBI? Why is Miami even playing than
(29:58):
these games? Huh? Why are they? John's point is the
NBA Finals is the NBA Finals, and in it you
should be interested because it's the NBA Finals, Right. It
was sitting there and going like, wow, I think they'd
rather have this, and yeah, we don't want Miami. Well,
if we don't want Miami there, then why don't they do?
Why are they in the NBA? Why don't we just why?
I was there a team there? By the way, I
(30:19):
was going to tell you too, Doug. That Miami, you
know they were there and play the Lakers. But was
it two years ago that they and they're back again
like everybody thought there was like a fluke, right Miami. Yeah,
they got lucky to get they're back again. So they
obviously have a pretty good team built around some pretty
good players. But I just never understand. I don't understand
it for baseball, for any of these sports. It's just like,
(30:41):
why do we contract and just have five teams in
each sport and that'll be it. We don't have to
worry about the radio. It's just a golden state, the Lakers, Celtics.
I mean, I just I don't get it. I don't understand.
Are you mad at people may stream mainstream quasi sports
(31:02):
fans who occasionally watch and occasionally don't watch, or you
met at the media you met? I who are you
upset at? I? I just I just I'm not start
of you, guys, because you're just bringing up a really
valid point, which is these are two teams which we
want to see. They want to see Luca, they want
to say, not really Miami, like okay, well, then if
they don't want to see Miami, the Miami things the
(31:22):
way they play John Miami. No, no, but they're a
team in the NBA and they have a right to
get the NBA Finals. I didn't matter, but it shouldn't
matter what their radios are going to be for them,
Otherwise why would we have them in there? It doesn't matter.
But we're just pointing out that, like, look, uh Ja
Stu will not You guys have watched the Dodgers every day, right, um,
(31:46):
but Dan and I are gonna watch every game regardless.
But we're we're gonna watch if the if the um
Charlotte Hornets were in, we'd watch. We're basketball fans and
we're radio hosts, so we kind of the job Haus.
You kind of have to. But there's a percentage of
fans out there. I mean, look, a's so different the
super Bowl. I don't know anybody who doesn't want super Bowl,
(32:08):
but more than half the country doesn't want super Bowl,
so okay, so uh and if Tom Brady is playing, um,
the numbers increase. Even though again, no one I know
doesn't watch the Super Bow. I don't know anybody's like,
oh what, actually that's not true. My mom didn't watch
the super Bowl this year, and like it was like
two days later, She's like, who one. I was like, really,
(32:31):
what were you doing? How? I was outside. I was
doing some gardening. You know, it's California is like a
beautiful day in February. And she's like, I was doing
some gardening and I thought about having it on and
then it was just noisy, and then I didn't have
it on. I don't know who is performing at halftime,
and I just okay. So it's fine. But there's a
percentage of people that will watch if it's Tom Brady,
(32:51):
will not watch if it's not. There's a print like that,
like the Fox NFL Sunday game the week this is
the best one who doesn't watched that game? Right? I mean,
if you're around on a Sunday that games on because
it's always an awesome game. But if the Dallas Cowboys
are on, more people watch. I don't know why, but
(33:13):
more people watch. They either want to see the Cowboys
win the Cowboys lose. Now, in this case, what we're
talking about is Miami style of play is like, I mean,
they're really good defensively, really long, and then they just
kind of try and throw enough points to win. But
there's just not a Ton. There's not a ton of
Miami Heat basketball fans a right the second you find
(33:34):
out your a Miami Heat basketball fan. When the when
Duade Wade won it because he got every call, then
they add Lebron who was like, it kind of feels
like a stack team. You win a couple of titles
and then it's just kind of a team searching for
their next thing. And they got to the like, I
don't know why are they in the NBA because the
same reason that that um who is the character in
(34:01):
uh Animal House that they were going through the rush
and they're trying to flounder, flounder and flounder gut in.
They needed the dues. They need the dudes. Coming up
next to Doug Gotli Show, NFL schedule was released, but
apparently we're in store from even more changes in the future.
What changes you'll find out next? Fox Sports Radio has
(34:22):
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all
of our shows at Fox sports radio dot com and
within the I Heart Radio app. Search f s R
to listen live the Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio. Every day.
This time we get up in the stories. Today we
get to the press. Damn by already got a couple
(34:46):
of notes from the NFL. We start out with this
one free to running back three. Cohen was doing a
workout that he was live streaming and suffered an injury
during the workout. So he was trying to come back
from an a c L tear and the the appearance.
I haven't seen the video, but reports it looked like
he grabbed somewhere in his foot area. Um. Some speculated
(35:07):
it could be an achilles issue. I don't know if
it's a calf issue, but yeah, Terik and trying to
uh get some eyes on him for an NFL return,
ends up injuring himself in that workout. I've I've met
and talked to Terry a bunch. He's a great dude. Um,
I will point out, and I hope nothing's wrong with him. Guys,
you know you're allowed to work out without filming. It
(35:29):
doesn't have to appear in your eye. G just wanting
to point out on that Jason McIntyre at sixteen points
in open gym the other that it was a men's
league and but his kids, but his kids to the
men's league. It was the j mccam. It was only
following him that, uh, you have those you had that
in the in the Buck Celtics series, you could have
(35:50):
a camera that only followed Janice, one that followed Jason
Tatum McIntyre on Instagram and only follows Jason McIntyre and
what he does in his uh open gym and speaking
with on a podcast or the ESPN NFL VP Mike
North says that there will be three Monday Night doubleheaders
coming in with flex scheduling also coming for Monday Night
(36:12):
Football for weeks fourteen through eighteen. So yes, flex scheduling
for Monday Night Football, not this upcoming season, but coming in.
I'll tell you what I think they're gonna do. I'll
bet they had the manning cast for the one that's
opposite Troy and Joe Buck. Oh yeah, that makes sense.
(36:34):
It actually does make sense. Then you have the opportunity
to yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, they don't. They don't
cannibalize each other butt you with. Yeah. So we'll see
some changes and that could alter people's game watching schedule
as things get closer. This no for Major League Baseball,
Orioles pitcher Matt Harvey suspended sixty games for admitting under
(36:56):
oath that he distributed a band drug of abut this
all going down in the Eric k trial following the
death of Tyler Skeggs, the former Angels picture. So Matt
Harvey now suspended sixty games for what he said during
that trial. Pretty big fall off for Matt Harvey, right,
Remember from the Dark Knight starting in the All Star
Game as a rookie to like a disgrace dude who
(37:18):
remember he missed a start, They delayed a start form
in the playoffs because he was late to a workout.
He was, he was a mess. Finally, reps for soccer
mega star Leo Messi are shooting down reports that he
will join Inner Miami of the MLS and I have
a thirty ownership steak in the club. So Messi's people
(37:39):
denying those reports that he could be in the States
after after what would be next season, Messi is thirty four.
How long do guys usually stay at the top level
in soccer? Gosh, that's a John Ramo's question, and we'll
do the John Ramo Show post show. Seev he starts
getting mad about Messi potentially switching. That's suppressed. Get out
(38:01):
there impressed. That was the press. I do I think
the Celtics steal one to day. Maybe I'm I'm off,
Maybe the heat just hammer him and it's a low
scoring game. I like the Celtics in the over still
got leap show
