Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hello, my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the Being the
Weekend edition. First with yesterday's news, I am Glen Hart
and we are looking back at Sunday and Saturday, which
are the two best days to have a weekend on.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
It's just easier if you do it that way. They
all blacks.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
What are absolutely convincing dominating wind over England.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
So we'll get into that shortly.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
And Julia Dean's and Fir Patrol are back. TV three
News is back.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Hang on.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
I thought it was all finished but no, and Jack
Bill's a birdhouse.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
But before any of that.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Record breaking election for the UK Labor Party, it's given
to that.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Does it mean anything in terms of change in the
UK from the right to the left or is it
just the fact as they were been incumbent for fourteen years,
life was not so great. A lot of people were
very dissatisfied and so basically they were always going to
be out on the ear, whether the opposition having to
be left right or I don't know, in the middle.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
I think there's truth and what you say, I mean,
Kirstein has been very careful to know, to neutralize any
concerns about a labor government. You know, he's been very
careful to say that and raise taxes, you know, the
ordinary taxes like income tax and the at and that
sort of thing that they may be. It's I think
the drews outum where they might be something about wealth tax.

(01:48):
But you know, they were very careful to try and
neutralize those concerns. It's nowhere near as left wing a
Labor party, if you like, as that one under Jeremy
Corman at the previous election. I mean, that was that
was really left wing stuff, and of course they suffered accordingly,
but the result was quite staggering, you know, for former
prime minister's seats are gone too later from the Conservative

(02:10):
Sprus's seat, there's trust a seat, you know, David Cameron's seat,
and threw some a sigull two went to Labor and
you know, some outstanding members lost their seats. Penny Mordant,
you may she was the Leader of the House, of course,
and you may recollect she was the person who held
the sword at the Oak King Charles.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, I mean there's no arguing that the Tories really
went off the deep end by the end of their reign,
so and in full damage control mode.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
So it'll be an interesting few days to come.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
And at least in the UK they get five years
to try and actually, you know, make their knack. It's
not like, you know, the elite's over and we'll turn
around and you another elections on the way like it
is here.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Talk Zi been.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Another All Black campaign is underway, of course, and as usual,
not exactly vintage All Blacks for the first game, but
at least you know, they came away with a win
with one of the best against one of the best
teams in the world.

Speaker 6 (03:16):
What did you make in general terms of the All
Blacks first outing of the year, Well, some might.

Speaker 7 (03:22):
Suggest there was a bit of bit of rustiness, especially
at the start. There's a bit of you know, it
took a while for the All Blecks sort of to connect,
but one thing was definitely apparent, and that was both
the physical attributes from both sides. I think also England.
I think they they proved to be more physically dominant
around that kind of rock area. All Blacks were guilty

(03:44):
of not securing and not protecting the ruck sort of
ball for TJ Perrinara initially until sort of Philly Christy
got on. The unfortunate injury there to TJ. But they'll
need to tidy up those aspects around there. The direction
of both Damien McKenzie and I thought Stempire Feder had
a good hit out. You know, some might say his

(04:04):
debatable call at fullback, but look, everyone sort of took
the chances. I think the biggest the one of the
other biggest aspects was their line outs. They sort of
they sort of fell off their midway through that second half.
More come on there too, so they'll be looking to
tie up those aspects definitely for that second test.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Former All Black Paul Miller, there sad games for the.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I didn't actually see it, you know, we pfitely honest
did not see All Blacks versus England at clashed with
a domestic manager's birthday party, and I think we all
know which event takes precedence of that no circumstances talk

(04:54):
now for Patrol. Interesting phenomenon for Patrol. It's not like
they've had an endless string of hits, and yet they
seem to be vaunted as one of new Zealand's classic bands,
which is hard to deny. And Julia Dean's is definitely
an influential New Zealand musician and she joined Jack an

(05:16):
influential news doorks they'd radio hosts on Saturday Morning.

Speaker 6 (05:19):
The Patrol will Last Together in twenty twenty two. What
was it about that experience that made you think this
would be fun and worthwhile.

Speaker 8 (05:29):
Too? I think one of them the fact one of
the things is that we just we're actually like siblings,
and when we get together, it's just it's like being
back in the family again, and everything just kind of
locks into place, and just all the stupidity happens, like
the good stupid yeah, and the other is yeah, we

(05:50):
just and we love to play together.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (05:54):
But also when we did those shows for the pet
anniversary tour, the feedback that we were getting from the
audience is just like it was like walking into a
big love fest. Everyone was so excited and so happy.
And I actually just posted I was looking back through

(06:14):
the photos that our friend Nick took and came with
us on the tour, and he took all these amazing
photos of the audience and just the faces of utter
joy and delight. I just posted a whole lot of
them on my Instagram the other day because it was
just like, these are beautiful and I can get like
little friendly goosebumping feelings just thinking about it. It's just,

(06:38):
you know, everyone sang all the words, even to like
the most obscure songs on the record kind of thing.
So we're hoping that we can sort of generate that
buzz again. And with our second album, which was Collider,
which is now twenty years old.

Speaker 6 (06:56):
Come on, twenty years is nothing?

Speaker 8 (06:58):
Yeah, which wasn't as commercially there's so much of a
hits as pet but I don't know, we love it.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
You go fill your boots with some Firth Control.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Great to have them back on, stay setting and yeah,
after farewelling three News three News is back?

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Is that what it's called?

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Is that what it's called? I don't think that's what
it was called? Is that what it's called? Now?

Speaker 3 (07:29):
I don't know? Again, Like I say, I was busy
on Saturday nights. I didn't see it. Franchesca did, though.

Speaker 9 (07:36):
The virtual reality set Bold and Busy, and the weekend
host Laura Tupo's relaxed and competent performance made it easy
to adjust it was a pretty seamless and smooth beginning. Technically,
things went well better than I'd expected. Clearly, they were
also keen to set the standard with their story quality,
and that is what the news is all about, after all.

(07:57):
Both one News and three News had gutsy exclusives up
their sleeves for launch night. Three News put out the
big talent with senior investigative journalist Paula Penfold presenting an
investigation into a Chinese probation officer's link to an alleged spy,
and weekday news reader Samantha Hayes made it clear she
isn't just going to sit behind an auto Q and

(08:18):
presented a story about a reformed gang member. Both were
substantial stories that felt like they were filling a gap
left by the demise of shows like Sunday and Paddigower
has issues. There weren't a lot of stories it is
only a half hour slot in the weekends, but they
also covered off the news of the day, sport was lively,
and the weather efficient. It was a good start. If

(08:40):
you were worried about not having another real news option
at six, then the indications are you can rest easy
the challenge. I think we'll be keeping it up. So
good on them, a new era begins. Stuff't have not
had much time to pull us together, and considering the challenges,
it's impressive they're off the starting line. Now it depends

(09:01):
on how well they impress loyal fans and keep curious ones.
Best of luck to them.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
I must back in the day when I used to
watch the six o'clock news, I was the TV three
kind of a person, so I felt like.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
It was a bit more edgy, a bit more.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Energy energy. But now I don't have any edge or energy,
so I don't watch any of you getting really prepared
by about six pm.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
These days news talk z bean.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
So I'm much older than Jack came, and yet I'm
still not at the stage of building my own bird feeders.

Speaker 6 (09:48):
The moment I strung it up and turned my back
on the feeder, it was swarmed by an incredible flock
of toho, you know, silver eyes. The pudgy little cuties
swarmed the feeders platform and pecked at the feeder nozzle,
six or eight at a time. They squabble with more
queuing up in the nearby plum tree.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Eating to gorge.

Speaker 6 (10:10):
In the few weeks that I've had it. I've become
less concerned about attracting birds and more worried that somehow
I've created a dependency. As well as the silver eyes,
every toui in Auckland must have had the word. They
swoop down, irridescent, gorgeous, greedy, the toho scramble. I've no

(10:34):
idea what the record is, and I don't know. Maybe
you can outdo me. But at one point yesterday I
counted no fewer than six tui in my backyard, six
all of them lined up to guzzle down the sugar water.
It's a good thing that tui don't have teeth to brush,
but can too he get diabetes. Maybe it's middle age.

(10:56):
I don't know, Maybe it's maybe it's a weird form
of nesting. I just cannot believe what joy it's giving
me to sit down and watch the native birds squabbling
over sugar water, the toho, the silver eyed, like furry
little ping pong balls, the tooey bullies, but such beautiful bullies.

(11:20):
My feeder is not bringing back a dense tree canopy
to my backyard, but it has certainly brought back a
bit of like.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Wow, Yeah, I mean, I've just been looking it up
just to make sure I was right about that. He's
not only a bit younger than me, he's much much,
much much younger than me, like more than a decade,
significantly more than a decade younger than me. And I
just sort of feel like every time ever since he

(11:49):
sort of settled down and got married, and he's just
suddenly he's building birdhouses. We were in cardigans with leather
patches on the elbows necks. Don't don't be in too
much of a harry to reach a golden year's stick down.
Buddy's got a bit of life in your year.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
I'm clean hat that has been used to as indeed,
I've got to have life.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
For me to meet you back here again to morry
that I'll see you there.
