Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hellom my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the bean for Thursday.
First with yesterday's news, I am Glen Hart, and we
are looking back at Wednesday, which was election day in
the States, of course because it was Tuesday there.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
And yeah, once again the polls didn't mean much, did they?

Speaker 2 (00:44):
So can we stop taking any notice of the polls?
That about wraps it up for Poles. I think I
think we're done with polls. The polls have shown themselves
to be pretty much meaningless for several major events these,
you know, in the last few years. But then you

(01:07):
would have said that about with forecasts as well, and
they still seem to be doing those. But anyway, before
the Poles revealed themselves to be so accurate, there was
still a party going on at the US embassy, although
it sounded like they were a little bit worried.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Is there any anticipation that it might not quite go
the way for you know, some of those Harry supporters
are indeed maybe some of the Trump supporters.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Is there a lot of anxiety in that room right now.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
Ethan, Well, I don't know. I suppose people are acknowledging
that it is just too close to cool. It's too
early and the race is so tight. So yeah, people
are just watching the TVs with faded breath. No one's
making any calls yet, but they just enjoying the time. Well,
they're here, and yeah, have.

Speaker 6 (01:47):
You got any idea when you think there might be
a possibility to start thinking about having an opinion on
which way it's going.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
Oh, I'm not going to make any calls yet, but yeah,
people don't seem too bothered. Really, that is happy to
be here. They're drinking the red wine, they're having the punch,
they're having the little finger food. I think I just
enjoyed the company and enjoyed being in the Ambassady's beautiful
house out in Low Heart. It doesn't actually feel like
country estate in America. What kind of snacks have you
going to join the party atmosphere?

Speaker 3 (02:19):
What kind of snacks have you got there?

Speaker 6 (02:21):
Have you got hot dogs?

Speaker 5 (02:22):
There's a bit of everything. There was some nuttoos with
glacamole I was snacking before. There's some cupcakes, there's some
fruit punch all sorts.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Really fruit punch, push the boat out, fruit punch, tell
you what. I think the majority of people in that
room would be wanting something a little.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Bit stronger than fruit punch. There's the afternoon and the evening.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Wore on news talk it be.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
So by the end of the drive shows, it was
pretty clear which way everything was heading, and it wasn't
supposed to be that clear that early, but yeah, the
heather was certainly left in no doubt.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
So the BBC's running this pole. I think it's actually
it's five three eight ABC News Poll. Right, don't worry
about what's happening in the national polling. The only thing
that you should care about is what's happening in the
swing states. The swing states being Nirvana, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan,
North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona. Harris is not leading by enough.

(03:27):
She's gonna lose. This is why Nevada she's got her.
The margin of her leader is less than one percent.
Pennsylvania the margin of her lead less than one percent,
Wisconsin lesson one percent, Michigan lesson one percent, North Carolina.
Trump's got by less than one percent. Georgia, he's got
by one percent. And Arizona he's got by two percent.
Now he will he will, he will probably overperform in

(03:48):
all of this. Right, So, whatever you're seeing in the polling,
he does better on the night, because that's what happened
in twenty sixteen. That's what happened in twenty twenty. Now,
if you were listening on the twenty third or twenty
fourth thereabouts of September, I told you that the Democrats
were worried because they did not think that Carmela had
a big enough lead in any of these swing states,
and they were worried that her lead was small enough

(04:09):
for him to flip it. Her lead was bigger then,
So in Pennsylvania on the twenty third, twenty fourth of September,
she had a lead of four to six percent, and
the Democrats thought he could potentially outperform that and win Pennsylvania.
Even though she was leading in the polling by four
to six percent, her lead in the polling is now
less than one percent. Back then, Michigan she had a

(04:31):
lead of one to two percent, and in Wisconsin she
had a lead of one to two percent. She now
has a lead of less than one percent in both
of those states. Right, So in all of the states
where they were already worried about her polling lead not
being enough. She has come back to a tiny, tiny,
tiny lead, which means on the night the Orange guy overperforms,
he does well, he exceeds expectations, and he wins the

(04:52):
swing states, which is the only ones that he needs
to worry about. And if I remember correctly, he can
win six of them, the last one being Nevada. That
doesn't matter so much. He can win six of them,
and that's his path the victory. Brace yourself.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
I actually deliberately avoided any news yesterday.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Where I left work, I stuck my head firmly and
deeply into the sand. My plan was to come in
today and find out what was going on.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Just you know, if things didn't go.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
The way I hope, then I'd be blissfully ignoring. But honestly,
even just people in my house couldn't keep their trap
shat talk. Obviously, you know, Marcus was keeping an eye
on things as well, but.

Speaker 7 (05:41):
They've had a bricksmanship going on and all sorts of things.
I think Trump will probably do it to his own
call to be waiting for the right. And then again,
of course he might not come out at all because
he's not one to follow protocols or things like that,
so we are waiting for that to happen. So that's
a situation. It seems as though he will be I

(06:02):
don't quite know the full count because a lot of
them are still pro visional, but it seems as though
not only has he won, but he's also won the
popular vote. He has got more votes than Kamla Harris,
so that seems to be the result too. I don't
know if that people think that's a good or a

(06:22):
bad thing. I guess it means that probably it makes
his presidency more legitimate. You couldn't say that, oh well,
it was a quirk of the electoral college system. He
got more votes, So there we go.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
I think that is I mean, I've made no secret
of the fact that, yeah, there's nothing I think there's
nothing worse than Trump being in charge of anything, mister
liar philanderer.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
But we it's occurred to me.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
And one positive that I take out of this, exactly
as Marcus just said, is that at least it's a
clear result, and it's you know, you aren't really bit
your moan about the fact that Harris just didn't give
voters anything to really hang on to.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
She was.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
It was all wind and noise at no real substance.
I think that's what costs them in the end.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
I don't think i'd be this depressed. I just really
feel like I've been.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Kicked in the gats, even though this is exactly what
I predicted would happen.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Right, I've had enough of the US election.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
I guess we'll never have to talk about it ever again,
and we can move on to other things like are
you allowed to restrain kids boot camps?

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:52):
I know, We've spent a long time discussing this over
the last day or so.

Speaker 8 (07:56):
There needs to be some measure by which they can
be kept safe and the community can too. The use
of restraints will be measured and monitored, and if it
is abused, then all hell breaks loose. Hopefully the days
that saw so many children's lives effectively destroyed under state

(08:18):
care are gone because the light has been shone into
the dark corners. It doesn't mean there will never ever
need to be a use of restraint ever again, but
it has to be monitored, it has to be seen,
and I think that's what we've got here. Karen Shaw

(08:39):
once they finally got their act together and was like, oh,
what violence Departimli said that we're going to be violent
to the kids and oh my god, Labour's in there man.
We said this would happen. No, all that's going to
happen is that the kids will be kept safe, the
community will be kept safe within the institutions and outside

(08:59):
of them, and if anybody oversteps the mark, oh by cracky,
they will be barbecued roasted. And that's the way it
will be.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
It's kind of the opposite of all the debate that
happened and baffle that happened.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Around the anti smacking law.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Remember when that was just like the country wrapped itself
into this giant night over that and people were worried
that the the smacking police were going to turn up.
And you know then that hasn't happened, has it. I
think it's the same sort of thing as that we just.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Need to give keep a little bit of perspective news
talk has it been.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
I'm saying that though I'm I'm not a super fan of.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
You given kids, no matter how naughty they are, But
there's a difference between being naughty and doing ramways though
isn't there.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
It's tricky.

Speaker 6 (09:58):
What are you meant to do? Let the kids punch
each other and not intervene, Let them run on the road,
let them escape and just wave goodbye as they leave. Oh,
he's nearly killing them other kid. Well, remember, we can't
actually do anything, so we'll just watch it happen. How
can you run a boot camp without the last resort
right to intervene and restrain where necessary? But Arwodi Wayts says,

(10:20):
it's disgusting and unacceptable, and I can understand why it.
Arwitis worked up on this one. The abuse and state
care inquiries showed the worst that can happen. It was
disgusting and disgraceful what went on. But does that mean
that we can never use programs to rehabilitate these younger
serious offenders ever again? And where does that leave them?
In adult jails or they don't like that and youth

(10:42):
detention centers they don't like that either. Plus they escape
from these things pretty regularly. At home, well they were,
but they committed serious crimes repeatedly. So where does that
leave the kids and the governments tasked with trying to
sort them out? Well, between a rock and a hard

(11:04):
place with an impossible job on their hands.

Speaker 5 (11:07):
That's where.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yeah, and again I'll just say what I always say.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Hey, everybody out there never either never knew there ever
never never never ever never ever ever have kids, and
you can avoid these problems completely. I am Glen Hat.
I have great advice like that again for you tomorrow.
I think I'm going to go home again today and
not watch the news again today.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
I enjoyed that yesterday, but I always don't worry. I
still listen to all my podcasts that I normally listen to.

Speaker 5 (11:40):
