Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from News Talk, said B
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Used Talk Said Talk said.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Hello, my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the bean for Friday.
First with yesterday's news, I am Glen Hart and we
are looking back at Thursday long term renters. Kerrie Woodham
was really getting stuck into that yesterday morning. Are we
spending too much time chasing cannabis users? And that's what
the Afternoon Show wanted to know. Early Edition wanted to

(00:48):
have a say, And when I say Early Edition, I
mean Andrew Dickens wanted to have a say about comedians
he's been watching lately, and Marcus has a cup of tea.
But before any of that, Yes, so Liberation Day yesterday
for Trubb, I think the rest of the world found
it slightly less liberating. What was Ryan Bridge's take?

Speaker 4 (01:05):
If you do listen to this program often, you'll know
I spoke about the chairman of HSBC the other week,
Mark Tucker is his name HSBC, of course, being the
largest funder of trading free trade in the world. He
gave an interesting speech. He said, globalization as we know
it is basically over instead of one big world trading freely,

(01:30):
We'll split up into smaller groups and political blocks, bricks countries.
That's Russia, China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia. They'll start
doing a lot more trade with each other. Trump is
creating a new world order with these tariffs. But how
do we fit into it? What's our goal? We're chasing
a deal with India, which is obviously not a bad thing,

(01:51):
but that could take years, will never happen, and if
it does, maybe without derry. What happens when China invades
Taiwan and the world blacklists it. There's thirty eight billion
dollars in two way trade, our biggest trading partner. What
do we do then? While Trump was apping friend and
foe alike with terrorists today, he mentioned war at least

(02:13):
a couple of times in the time that I was
watching his press conference. He says, we need a strong
manufacturing base to sustain a war effort, should we need one.
The guy clearly has a long term plan he thinks
will help America protect and prosper itself. The question is
do we And.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Again, you've immediately got to when you start talking about
long term plans You've immediately got to wonder if this
whole three year term of government thing is sustainable because
you can't three years isn't really enough for big picture
plans to settle in? I wouldn't have thought. I mean,

(02:54):
don't look at me. I can't even decide where to
have dinner.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Tonight news talk has it been.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Actually speaking of long term things? Carrie Woodham was talking
about long term renters yesterday morning.

Speaker 5 (03:05):
Surely you can't expect tenants to be moving every two
years when renting is their life, when that is what
they are going to be doing forever. How is it
that there is so much tune and from what is
the catalyst for the move? Is it landlords booting tenants

(03:28):
out for what reason? I can't see why it's in
the best interests of landlords to move good tenants on.
Certainly the stories we've had whenever this topic has come up,
I do tend to hear from very good landlords and
from tenants who do have good landlords. I suppose they're
quite happy and confident to be discussing the topic. But

(03:52):
why on earth would a landlord want to move a
tenant on if they're paying the rent on time? Keeping
the place tidy. How is it in their interests and
how is it in the best interests of tenants to
pack up, find the bond, pay the moving costs every
two years?

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, good questions. I think once the number one is
moving out again. You moved out once before, you moved
out a couple of times. Maybe he's coming back. But
hopefully this is this one's going to take. Hopefully she
will end up being a long term render. Already had
problems with league agreement, the rental agreement. They haven't even

(04:36):
moved in yet. If it wasn't what they thought it
was going.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
To be.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Tricky business renting. I'm glad those days are behind me.
I really hope he works it out, because I don't
ever want to see her again, our dad, that's a
mean thing to say. I don't mean I don't even
want to see her again. I just don't even want
to see her moving back in again. That's what I meant.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
You's talk said, right.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
This is a bit bit of bubbling going on about
liberalizing the drug laws of New Zealand. This seems to
bubble up for the surface of renown again most of
the time, with little effect. Is it what the afternoon
show is pushing for.

Speaker 6 (05:19):
This is on the back of a cannabis sting in
Three Kings in Auckland. So they raided a large cannabis
growing operation in the central Auckland suburb, and a police
spokesman said the operation was found at an industrial property
the Quotas. Police have been at the car Road address
since late morning and inquiries ongoing this afternoon. So police

(05:41):
have remained at the address and a photographer at the
scene said the sense of cannabis at the site was
incredibly potent and could be smelled from a nearby motorway.
That's probably what gave it away.

Speaker 7 (05:52):
It is stinky stuff that cannabis, isn't it. But my
question on this when I read this story, I thought,
are we still doing this? Are we still busting cannabis
growing operations? Is that where we want our resources being spent?
Because it's very easy to sign up to medical marijuana.
A number of people that are taking medical medical marijuana.

(06:14):
Dozens of states across the United States have legalized it.
It just seems that the trend in the world is
towards are not worrying so much about cannabis. So do
we want police to be deploying their resources into busting
up cannabis operations, or do we want them to be
laser focused on the dirty myth epidemic in this country

(06:34):
because there's no doubt that we have a huge problem
with myth, and myth is an evil. It does nothing
good in society that there's no justification for myth out there.
So should the should the police be smashing up myth
labs as hard as they can and maybe just driving
past the stanky old large cannabis growing operations and not

(06:55):
worrying about them so much?

Speaker 3 (06:56):
You a needless list of outrage cause you're talking about
gateway jokes.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
S gatewagh jougs, satewegh jokes.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Maybe I guess where does the gateway first open? With alcohol?
With bathing? Probably not with tobacco These days now we
can afford that sing So as I usually like to go,

(07:33):
this podcast is going to get more random as it
goes on. I don't know why Andrew Dickens was talking
about comedians that he's been watching or listening too lately,
but he was yesterday warning.

Speaker 8 (07:42):
So at the moment I'm reading Bill Maher's book, what
this comedian said will shock you. It's a collection of
his best monologues over a year now. I used to
think he was quite right wing when I watched his show,
but that was because he was merciless against the Biden administration.
Now the Trump is in power, he's equally merciless, and
I like that. I like that he's telling the truth.

(08:04):
I like his pithy observation that conservatives govern with without shame,
and liberals shame without governing. That's true in America, that's
true here. Both sides are as bad as each other.
And he says that is why the world is so
full of people who want to break the shit up.
I like all these comedians because they bring logic to

(08:26):
the fight. They're neither left nor right. They just look
at what it is and laughs at it, unlike politicians
who will bring whatever might score them votes and the
media who will say anything that will get them clicks,
which pay the bills.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there are quite a few comedians
out there who want people to click on their content. Unfortunately,
I'm pretty sure the the urge to be light on
socials is a Gennie we can't put back in the

(09:03):
bottom for everyone. Sad but true.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Talk.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Zip Bean Hey, I tell you what, Marcus likes a
nice cap and tea. Why am I telling you this?
I don't know. I don't know why he's telling us this.

Speaker 9 (09:20):
I've become an evening tea drinker, and gosh, I'm loving it.
I was always one of those coffee balls. Oh, I
like a cup of coffee. But I'll tell you what.
You don't drink, you drink tea.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
It's much.

Speaker 9 (09:31):
It seems to be much more pleasant of an evening
find myself less wired. I never thought I'd become a
tea boar, but I I just chacked my bag and
the gap and leave it. I'm not doing anything wacky
with the teapot, but yeah, so there we go. I've
often judged tea drinkers in the past, feeling that they
were missing out on something, so I apologize.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
The only thing I don't understand about why people go
on about tea is because it's so disgusting. It all
just tastes disgusting and yack. If you can't drink coffee
at night, go decare.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
Even better.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Have a whiskey.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
I am a glen Hart. That's my help advice for
another day. We'll see you back here with another weekend
edition of news Talks You've Been Actually on Mondays news.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
