Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from news Talk said Bee
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
Used Talk said be you Talk said Hello.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
My beautiful beanies, and welcome to the Bean the Long
Weekend edition.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
First with yesterday's news, I.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Am Glen Hart, and we are looking back at Monday, Sunday, Saturday.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
We can snoke you much longer than that.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Usually I'm obsessed with the Chiefs because nobody else is.
We're going to talk refer rearing, have a slightly lower
level boy racers, zero tolerance for boy races apparently, which
doesn't seem to have any effect on them whatsoever. And
who the hell is phaser days. But before any of that,

(01:00):
we all know who Die Henwood is and he has
been honored in the King's Birthday honors.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Your dad would be so proud.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
Oh, I tell you my dad would be so proud.
Unfortunately pasted in twenty nineteen. He also was a on
ZM and my mum, who's sort of my biggest support.
She's a c in ZDM and a dame. So the
we've sort of hit the trifecta in our little faro.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
Well, you've still got a way to go to rule
the roost. Mum's still the queen.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Absolutely, and no matter what happens, it will always stay
that way.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
What does this award mean to you?

Speaker 5 (01:40):
It's huge for me actually, because I've been dealt a
lot of hard cards on the health situation, and what
it means to me is it's actually forced me to
sit down and reflect on what I've done over my life,
and carving a career in comedy where you can help

(02:01):
support a family is huge. I've sort of been able
to have the joy of traveling around the country making
people laugh, traveling abroad making people laugh, and in recent
years raising money for cancer, raising awareness, helping people through
sharing my journey, and it's made me reflect on the

(02:23):
beauty of humans, seeing humans laugh, seeing the generosity of humans,
especially in times where you can open the newspaper and
just see the worst side of humans.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
What's he mean?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Have there been some humans doing some bad stuff somewhere?
Somehow must amiss that humans are great? Aren't they?

Speaker 1 (02:48):
News talk?

Speaker 6 (02:49):
Has it been?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
The Chiefs some of my favorite humans at the moment,
And no matter how well they keep doing, how do
anybody talks to them or about them? Finally, Jason hye
talk to Clayton McMillan and it makes some other coaches
the other one.

Speaker 7 (03:08):
How do you evaluate the base that you've built over
the last four months or so as you head into
the Super Rugby Finals?

Speaker 8 (03:16):
Pretty happy? Actually, pointy, No, we haven't played perfect rugby,
but about playing your perfect rugby in the round robin.
It's about accumulating and understanding of where you want your
game to get to. Obviously, trying to keep as many
of you your main bodies out on the field and
setting yourself up to have a decent run when you

(03:38):
get to the finals.

Speaker 7 (03:39):
So you've scored the most points and conceded the fewest.
Which of those two things makes you happier?

Speaker 8 (03:47):
Probably the latter one. Yeah, look, I think you know
we're a team that has an ability to be able
to score tries, but I want to limit the amount
we need to score by reducing the amount that the
opposition scored. So tough, tough at this time of year,
because he runs, you know, as you said, understands the
game well. Some some quality teams left in the finals.

(04:10):
So often I'll come down to your defensive if it's accuracy.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, I mean you want to look out the points
differential on the table.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I couldn't believe that last week was one of the
worst ones. I think when we completely didn't I mean,
I know, we.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Completely demolished the Highlanders over the weekend. Let's be honest,
the high this is near a match of paper by
this point in the season.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
But Milana Pacifica last week completely everybody talked about, you know,
what had.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Gone wrong with them, and nobody really mentioned how.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Awesome the chiefs were. I mean some of the tryers
that they were scaring, the things that they were doing.
It was like watching the hand globe trodders. Anyway, I'll
let it go. Deep breath, Let's move on talk now.
Speaking of getting upset at sport. Every now and again
we talk about bad behavior on the sideline, parents at

(05:08):
the schools board, and I think Francesca's finally seen some
of this their self.

Speaker 9 (05:13):
Children can't hear specific constructions because generally parents all yell
at the same time when the attack is threatening and
the defense is scrambling. All they hear, as I discovered,
is noise, loud, aggressive instructional noises, then either noises of
disappointment or celebration. They also can't hear each other or

(05:35):
the reef. It is overwhelming, and ever since that experience,
I've been a fan of only positive noises. I know
it sounds a bit who but it works, claps and
chairs when players do well, because children and teens all
know when they didn't play well, they don't need.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
To be told.

Speaker 9 (05:53):
So it was great to see more than a thousand
players aged between five and ten from ten Hawks Bay
clubs yesterday taking part in the Unison Junior Festival. This
football event was all about positive vibes as it aimed
to highlight the importance of constructive and supportive sideline behavior
from parents and supporters. And look, it's just one of
the many campaigns out there to create a more supportive
environment for people involved in sport. Top New Zealand rugby

(06:16):
ref and victim of horrible abuse Ben O'Keefe is now
an ambassador for Love their Game, which was launched by
Active to remind people that the game belongs to those playing, refereeing,
coaching and managing and not those on the sideline. So
obviously I'm not the only one that's had this idea.
Hopefully these types of programs will mean more quality experiences
for those involved in sport from the players to the volunteers,

(06:39):
and can I suggest that if you don't like the
way a team is managed, coached, or refereed, then feel
free to steff up and become a volunteer yourself, rather
than yelling from the sidelines.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yes, which is exactly what I did over the years
with my kids, managed and coached curious different teams, not
because I particularly wanted to, but as Franchisca says, there's
no point shouting about it if you're not prepared to
do anything about it. Every now and again, I'm reminded

(07:10):
of how horrendous it was coaching my daughter's football team,
and how are horrendous the people. And usually i'm you know,
from our own team, vericizing my decisions, and I would
just go over and hand them the whistle and say,
well you do it, then no, and then shut up.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Humans are terrible. Guy was right earlier on humans are
just so terrible.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
City All right, Well, it's great that Mark Mitchell and
the government have sold the boy racer issue.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Except for that Len and except for around my neighborhood,
like all week in.

Speaker 10 (07:48):
Long, these perpetrators are the stuff in Levin. They're not
scared of police, are they.

Speaker 11 (07:54):
Uh, well, I think they'll be starting to become more
fearful of police and certainly have more respect after you
see the way the police were so proactive and dealing
with them last on Friday night. They really did do
an outstanding job. You know, you can sleek condemnation for
these idiot boy racers that continue to come out, damage roads,
damage property, intimidate the communities that their own, not only

(08:17):
the mass of danger to the public and police, but
to themselves as well. And of course one of my
fears is that is that we're going to end up
with a death. And when I looked at the iz
and I went up to Parmiston and live in myself
last night because there was a chance that they may
be Beckhead again. I looked at some of the footage
and how someone hasn't been killed is beyond me.

Speaker 10 (08:37):
Who are they? Are they really just boy racers or
are they are those of the spectators? Who who are
the actual perpetrators of this thing?

Speaker 11 (08:46):
Well, in my view, they're not true char enthusiasts, because
most car enthusiasts and people that belong to auto clubs
are very respectful. They're careful, they stick to the rules.
These these people are noxious, but like I said, they
come out, they take over public roads. They have complete
and total disregard for anyone else but themselves. They think

(09:07):
they're above the law, but we are clemping down on
them without a doubt, and in both the government and
the police have got zero tolerance for them.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Yeah, I'm sick of this hearing the zero tolerance thing.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
That it doesn't really mean anything.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Does it, because this just keeps happening again and again
and again, and it doesn't really matter whether you tolerate
them or you don't tolerate them.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Apparently.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
I mean, I don't I'm not quite sure what the
solution is, but I don't think it's just telling people
you've got zero tolerance.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
News talk z been now of course phase of days.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
The big winner at the New Zealand Music Awards the
other night, and I don't know. If you're young and hip,
you might know who this person is. However, most of
us here at Christy Old News Dogs had never even
heard of them.

Speaker 9 (10:00):
This is your first time winning an out our Music Award.
How did you feel hearing your name?

Speaker 6 (10:07):
A I felt weirdly calm. Actually, I think it's it
feels kind of like it's been a really long time coming.
I've been nominated quite a few times before, and it
was kind of it was nice to finally take home
a trophy. So yeah, I felt really felt really good.

Speaker 9 (10:22):
Yeah, because your album Soft Power was a long time
in the making, and I wonder whether this when cemented
that time, that you know that taking your time was
really worth it.

Speaker 6 (10:34):
Yeah, I think so. I mean it was kind of
validating because it was a really hard journey making this record.
I had a lot of stuff going on personally, but
also just navigating the industry and trying to free the
music was a massive journey. Just just getting the music
out there and untangling it from a lot of various
things that were going on, and so then to kind

(10:55):
of have a couple of awards in my hands to
kind of show for all that that work was just
really really validating and gratifying.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (11:06):
Yeah, you should be proud because that Album of the
Year category it was stacked with amazing albums, wasn't it.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
Oh my gosh. Yeah, I mean I was really nestled
into my seat.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
I was.

Speaker 6 (11:16):
I was pretty comfy to be like, Okay, well, the
night it's over, Like like I was. I was not
expecting to get up on stage again.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
So it sounds like she's pretty happy to be an
award winner. It's the Radio Awards this week. I'm going
I can't remember whether this year is our turn to
win one or not again. Tends to be sort of

(11:44):
how it goes. Doesn't seem to really be based on
anything like, you know, how many people are listening, how
much money we're making, doesn't It doesn't really seem to
have too much to do with it, unfortunately. Have I
sound a bit cynical about awards? Yeah, and it's always

(12:04):
on a Thursday night as well.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
What's it said about?

Speaker 2 (12:10):
I am moaning old wedding, Old Glenn Hart. That has
been the awesome long weekly edition of News Talks. He'd
been We see back here again with a sort of
a normal Wednesday morning one as normal as it.
