Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from news Talk said, be
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Used Talk said, be you Talk said.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Hello, my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the bean The
weekend Edition, the long weekend Edition, the marke Adiki Weekend Edition.
In fact, I am Glenn Hard and we are looking
back at Sunday, Saturday and Friday.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
It's a weird way to do.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
A long weekend, isn't it, But it's just how we roll.
We've got Bob Penny's redemption I'd rather not talk about,
but we're going to. Is it a good idea to
travel with babies?

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Your own or anybody else's.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Chris Parker is. I think he's got a new show.
He's also got a new dog and Deva Mahal bring
some rhythm and blues to the weekend.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
But yep, the.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
US got their big bunker buster out and they busted
a bunker.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Maybe surprised.

Speaker 5 (01:25):
I think what was surprising was only the timing. I
think it's become clear that the US was getting closer
to conducting the strike on Iran. They were getting all
their assets positioned in the region. But they've also engaged
in a bit of a deception campaign over the last
a week or so, making it hard to guess exactly
what we're going to come and win. And they think
that two week deadline that you mentioned was all part

(01:47):
of the strategy. It was all the great ruse, a
great deception to try and keep a run guessing about
what was going to come. But it has come, and
Donald Trump has put his weight behind Israel and he's
taken the United States into war with the Ruan. It's
quite a moment when.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
We have confirmation he used the word obliterated, but it's
probably too early to to confirm what damage was done.
How and when will we know if the nuclear capabilities
have been degraded.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
Well, imagine the US military will have all kinds of
military satellite capabilities that civilians don't have access to, and
they'll be looking at those and using those to sort
of work out just how much of their facilities have
been destroyed. The photo facility is very much deep underground,
and I've seen some analysis which suggests that even US

(02:36):
bunker busting bombs would have a hard job of really
destroying those facilities completely. They've been built with bunkerbuster bombs
in mind, and the Iranians are not stupid. They are
aware that these would be very high value targets for
the United States or Israel. So they've constructed these facilities accordingly.

(02:58):
But it's probably the case that if they haven't been destroyed,
they've certainly been degraded heavily, and they will have set
back the Iranians attempt to build a nuclear weapon, as
that as what they're doing, by several years. That's certainly
what the Raeli officials are saying at the moment.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
I don't know about you, but.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
This whole let's not let Iron have a nuclear weapon does.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Sound a bit.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
I don't know if you remember this, but there's this
place called a Rack and they were making weapons of
mass destruction, which is why.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
We had to go in there and sort them out.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
I mean, later on we found out that they didn't
have any weapons of mass distraction.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
But you know, news talk zip been.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
I'm sure these guys are getting good information and this
is not like that at all. Let's move on to
another battlefield in our part of the world, christ Church
and the Rugby.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
And of course it went the wrong way, but what
can you do.

Speaker 7 (04:06):
Hundreds of fans in that south and turned around to
look up into that box, and they gave Rob Penny
a standing ovation, and he looked down and smiled, gave
the crowd a round of applause in return, and just
mouthed a simple phrase, thank you. His redemption was complete.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Now.

Speaker 7 (04:24):
He might not see it in that way. In fact,
I know that he will not. He's taken every opportunity
to say he had nothing to prove, nothing to redeem.
But the players told a very different story. David Havili
and Will Jordan both said afterwards they did it for
their coach. Last year hurt this proud team very very deeply,

(04:45):
and they're very proud coach. Probably most of all, every
time I looked down onto the field after the game,
when the celebrations were taking place, my eyes kept on
getting drawn back to Rob Penny, quietly but happily enjoying
the moment with his family, with his team, with its fans.
The storylines last night might have been the continuation of
the Crusader's unbeaten Finals record, the fair well to Addington,

(05:09):
the coming of age of rivers Rayharnah, the continued brilliance
of Will Jordan, the unbelievable engine of Fletcher Nule, the
tirelessness of Ethan black Out, of the continued leadership, and
mana of Cody Taylor and David Harvilly. But the story,
the real story last night for me was Rob Penny.
He won't call it redemption, but that's exactly exactly what

(05:34):
it was.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
It's a shame that redemption had to come goss of
the Chief's coming second for the third year.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
In a row.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
They soon, I mean, I do sort of have to
hand it to Rob Penny. He obviously told them to
go out there and smothered Damien McKenzie and don't let
him take a step, And they've executed that plan pretty well.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
You's talk, sib been right.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
And now it's hard to remember exactly where things happen
when because of this long weekend. In the middle of
it was a Saturday, And on that Saturday, Jack Camee
was talking about traveling with a baby.

Speaker 8 (06:13):
I think it's his In fairness, Marney did about as
well as anyone could expect a four month old to do.
But traveling long Hall with a baby has tested my
enthusiasm for the whole new experiences philosophy. Sure, he might
have spewed in the middle of an aisle while half
the plane was watching him. He might have gone through

(06:33):
a dozen nappies, three rompers, a cardigan, and no fewer
than five bibs. But next time, I'll remember that I'm
the one who needs to pack extra clothes in his
carry on. And after it all, after it all there,
we were more than twenty four hours since we left home.
Pulling into a quiet street and a little town on

(06:54):
Lake Ontario. It was almost help us. Three in the
morning local time, the dead of night. Marney's grandparents were
waiting to meet their grandson for the first time. Marney's
great grandparents were waiting to meet him for the first time.
Bleary eyed and teary eyed, we hugged and cried in
the warm summer year. Sons, daughters, aunties, grandparents and great grandparents,

(07:21):
four generations together, and it was all worth it.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Jack can tell himself that makes himself feel better, but
we all know that it's not true. And I don't understand,
because I'm sure he's heard me say it before, that
you should never ever never, never, ever ever ever ever
never have children, So he didn't listen. Now, one of

(07:48):
our most successful comedians at the moment, is Chris Parker.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
He hasn't had.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
A baby, but he has had a dog, which, as
we know, can throughout your life into chaos.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
I don't reckon it does as much as a baby, though.

Speaker 9 (08:05):
I don't want to congratulate you.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Oh thank you so much.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
I'll take that.

Speaker 9 (08:08):
Well, just you don't know what it's about. You and
your husband Michael have welcomed a new addition to the family,
Margo Darling, park and mcape Have I got that right?
The rescue pap. How are you or adjusting to this
new family dynamic.

Speaker 10 (08:23):
She's adjusting well. I on the other hand, you know,
it's a big shift. I mean, we just lived I
think you know, if you look at sort of a
same sex relationship marriage on paper, it's a pretty easy
go in life. You know, despite some maybe like global
pushback in terms of our own lifestyle, it's just so nice,
you know, we had there's sort of no obstacle there.

(08:44):
It was just like you'd wake up and whatever time
you wanted, and like we had no obligations. It was
just like one house plant that we sort of tried
to keep alive and then we just thought, well, let's
go and ruin this all. Like highly like high needs
dog that you know, she's so precious, But it just
it's a lot, I mean, and everyone tells you it's

(09:06):
a lot of work, and you're like, I know, and
then you see everyone at these cafes and out on
walks and you're.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Like, so it's a lot of work.

Speaker 10 (09:12):
But there's a lot of this too. And then every
dog just has their own specific personality traits, and Margo
has hers. But we're getting there. We've got a trainer,
he's training us. He told me I was a good
boy the other day. He gave me a pat. I
almost said it at his feast, so did my belly,

(09:32):
asked for a rub.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
It would be good if I got a treat if
you telling the dog there's something right. Although to be
fair that my dog is quite well behaved, and that
might be too many treats, and certainly the dog gets
too many treats, but I might get too many treats.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
In that arrangement, and I'm not allowed treats as we know.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
News talk z it bean.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Now a bit of a treat again.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
I've got really no idea which part of weekend that
this happened on, but deepn Mahu came in to talk
about her new music.

Speaker 11 (10:13):
You were born in Honolulu, is that right? Big family?
One of six.

Speaker 12 (10:17):
No, I was.

Speaker 11 (10:18):
From Kuwaiti, from where.

Speaker 12 (10:22):
Kuwaiti, which is the island next to where the capital
city of honolulus on.

Speaker 11 (10:29):
All right, so you were born in Hawaii. You're part
of a big family, one of sex. And here's the thing,
and I'm sure you hear this every interview. Your father
is legendary American blue singer Taj Mahu.

Speaker 12 (10:41):
That is correct, very true. The man himself, the.

Speaker 11 (10:45):
Man himself a frequent visitor to New Zealand. What a
great player. Now, the thing about following in famous parents footsteps,
because you're a singer, he's a singer. You do the blues,
he does the blues, is that it can either be
a blessing or a curse. So, having Taj as a dad,
how was it for you?

Speaker 12 (11:02):
Well, my dad has always taught us that it's not
following in his footsteps, it's standing in his light. So
I try to lead with that way of thinking that
he casts not a shadow, but he throws light, and

(11:25):
he illuminates us and gives us more strength and sense
of self and individuality. Knowing that we carry carry what
we bring to this world from a long line of
creators and storytellers, and we come from a really deep legacy,

(11:49):
a very deep and yeah, so at times it has
been more like the journey of becoming who I meant
to be as an artist and then being able to
and strung enough to like hold that light. Wouldn't then

(12:11):
be able to emit your own light?

Speaker 2 (12:14):
You know?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (12:14):
Of course it's such a beautifully poetic way of putting things,
which is probably what made him such a great artist
as well.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
I wonder why Andrew got that wrong about Honolulu, Like
did he just assume because she was born in Hawaii
that had to be Honolulu? Did he ask an Ai
and the Ai had only heard of Honolulu and nowhere else?

Speaker 4 (12:40):
In a way, I want.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
To get to the bottom of that. But anyway, that
was some R and B to finish up the long weekend.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
I believe that was actually from Friday.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
I don't really know if that's smarter Ekey Day and
that's the day off we had because of it. And
does that mean that next here it'll be on a
Saturday so we'll get Monday off or does it.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Not work that way? But I don't know. Watch holidays
I work anymore and how they.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Work for reconfusing.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
I feel like I need a day after sort it
all out.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
I am being hat. I am about to embark on
a five day week. Have you a struggle. I'll see
you back here again tomorrow and we'll see how it's going.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
