Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from news Talk said, be
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on
iHeartRadio used Talk said talk.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Oh my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the bean for Tuesday.
First of yesterday's news. I am Glen harton. We are
looking back at Sunday making changes to the way you
can visit people in hospital. This is very I think
this is very in the weeds this thing. Anyway, we

(00:47):
will lament how perpeticly all blacks were over the weekend.
But first up, event funding is getting a government a
governmental boost.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
People like me, we don't quite understand how these.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Events benefit does personally. Yeah, if we're not involved in
the hospitality industry, for example.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Hospital does well, tourism operators do well, retail does well.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
They call it a bonanza.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
But if you're a fan of sailing, if you like
the America's Cup, you might be scratching your head. Remember
it was only five months ago we had the PM
saying oh no, thank you to backing the cup. Why well,
I went back and looked at the reasons to see specifically,
we're in a financial mess, a fiscal mess. We need
to invest in proper infrastructure, like hospitals and roads. He said,

(01:42):
we need to be quote more responsible with taxpayers money,
and now we have new money for a Pearl Jam concert.
To be fair, the sums involved here are important. The
Cup would have cost somewhere between forty and seventy million
dollars on its own, depending on who you ask. This
entire fund the bit for major events is forty million total.

(02:03):
But if you follow the reasoning and ask yourself the
basic question is the less demand for hospital or roading
infrastructure now than there was five months ago, you'd be
right to feel a bit confused by all of this.
Either the Cup was a crap investment or these investments
more generally are simply not a priority.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
It's a good point, isn't it, And it's I'm sure
it'll cause all sorts of.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Controversy as we find out which events get the thumbs
up and which get the thumbs down, which are important
for the economy, any air quotes and which aren't. I
didn't actually do air quotes when I said that.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Did you notice news talk has it been?

Speaker 2 (02:49):
I mean, I get that, you know there are people
who are helped by these things, But it comes back
to how am I personally helped by these things.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
So here's the story out from the Daily Telegraph. Last week,
the NRL was preparing to take league's biggest stage across
the Tasman, with plans and motion to stage men's and
women's State of O fixtures in New Zealand and consecutive
years and what would mark a landmark moment.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
For rugby lead.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
The Daily Telegraph reported that the CODES one hundred million
dollar show piece could have it head overseas to New
Zealand for the first time in twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
See that would be fantastic.

Speaker 6 (03:29):
You know, if we could make that work, then you're
going to have so many Australians coming over here and
you absolutely fleece them in the bars, restaurants.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
And come on over and give us your money.

Speaker 6 (03:42):
The Sex has said still forty million would be more
useful in the health sector. Now it's interesting what you
what you mean by health because I think there's health
benefits and people having something to look forward to. So personally,
I'm really looking forward to the Metallica concert. Yeah, and
the Monster trucks and that's really helping my mental health.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
It's funny, I think it has the opposite effect on me,
which I think is a sad in diamond of me
and my own personal psychological issues and where I sit
on the spectrum. But I don't even want to go
to another concert another big concert.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Last one I went to was Pink. It was great.
The concert itself was great, but all the.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Pilava and organizing it, getting there, the expenses of the tickets.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Getting home again.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
As great as the concert was, I personally did not
find it outweighed all the downsides, which is a shame
because everybody else who I went with did think that.
So it probably won't be the last concert I go to.
Like I say, I think there's something wrong with me,
and that's when it really manifests and situations like that

(04:58):
you talk. I don't think there's enough wrong with me
that I'm going to have to go to hospital or anything.
Carrie's been fantasizing about going, but only because she was
talking about people people in hospital.

Speaker 7 (05:09):
The Health New Zealand Chief Executive says, under the policy,
Varno will be supported to be with patients twenty four
to seven twenty four seven. Have we even asked the
patients if they want the Varno there for twenty four
seven where appropriate working alongside nursing and maternity needs our
teams to make this possible. And here's the absolute banger

(05:31):
for me. While respecting the privacy and recovery of others,
how unless you're in a porter cabin twenty miles away
from me on the hospital grounds, how is my privacy
going to be respected? How when the only thing preventing
me from becoming a member of my neighbour's extended family

(05:53):
is a flimsy nylon curtain. The nursing staff and security
can't be expected to manage the number of visitors supposed
to be one or two per person. Ah, that doesn't work. Now,
how are they going to be expected to manage the
behavior of the visitors? The transgressions of the visitors? We

(06:16):
are living in a culture of self, where individuals prioritize
their own needs, their own wants and desires, over the
need of the collective good of others. Bloody hell. If
there was ever an incentive to lace up the walking
shoes and say no to the doughnut, is this the
thought of ending up in a hospital ward? Now, my

(06:37):
vision has long been chatted, and an award with three
other people is bad enough. The thought of ending up
in a ward with three other people and their partners
and their kids, and their parents and their siblings and
their siblings children like youth anaized me. Now, don't worry
about fixing the broken arm. I'll just no pass chop

(06:59):
it off. No, I'll have to stay in hospital. I'll
just live with it. I'll be have a GIMPM for
the rest of my life. Of the many many in
saying ideologically driven policies I have heard come from government
departments over the years, this has got to be one
of the most bonkers.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yeah, so Kirie pretty hit up about that, is? I mean?

Speaker 2 (07:19):
I didn't follow the news closely after Kirie's show, not
sure if that caught fire around the country, hospital visiting
ours and all the rest of it.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Horrible places, aren't they? Hospitals? And Kerry makes a good point.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
You don't want there's not everybody who you want to
be there by your bedside twenty four hours, is the.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Right. So the blame game well and truly underway.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Why were they all blacks absolutely so useless.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
More useless than they've ever been? Really?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
On Saturday Night, a lot of people blaming Razor, of course,
but there's another Scott who's in Heather's headlights?

Speaker 8 (08:08):
And then this week I saw the press conference with
Raiser and Scott Barrett sitting next to him, and I
had the same thought, but the mirror of it, which
was should that man really be the captain? It it
felt like it just didn't feel you know what I mean?
It just didn't feel the same. And this is nothing
against Scott Barrett, who clearly comes from a lovely family
and seems like a fun guy, But I can't understand
Rays's commitment to him. There should be no question about

(08:30):
a captain's selection, right There was no question that Richie
mccau would be the one named it at number seven.
There was no question that Karen Reid would be the
one named at number eight. But is Scott as convincing?
Are you sure he's going to be the one named
in his position? Are you sure that his discipline is
good enough to warrant being the captain? Or are there
too many red cards and too many yellow cards week

(08:50):
in week out that suggests that maybe when he's under
pressure he just crumbles a little bit. Is he the
right leader on field when the team starts falling behind?
Given the fact that his record as a captain has
largely been with the formidable Crusaders. Has he actually had
enough losses and enough knocks in his career to know
what to do when your team is on the underside
and absolutely on track to lose the game and you

(09:12):
need to turn it around, you need to get a
win under your belt. Because is that actually what happened?
What went wrong on Saturday night when they started losing
and you saw it on the field, they just all
gave up at a point? Did they all give up
because their captain had given up? Now there is no
argument that. Rather there is an argument that the coaches
should come under scrutiny first before the captain, and maybe
that is the correct order of things that. Frankly, I

(09:34):
don't know enough about the assistant coaches to really have
an opinion one way or the other. But I think
when it comes to the captain, many of us have
already come to the right conclusion and the same conclusion here,
which is that they may have the wrong captain.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
You're not clear if there is a right captain out there.
Certainly the lack of leadership on field was stark. I
mean that last line out, the last line out was
towards the end of the game anyway.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Yeah, so we had a line out.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
On about there twenty two which we lost, and then
as a result of that, we ended up with a
defensive lineout deep in our territory which our captain decided
to do some kind of short line out with some

(10:28):
tricky dicky running around foolishness. Then of course they completely
cocked up and ended up throwing it straight to South
Africa and then they scored straight away.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
I mean, it was that kind of thing. It's just like,
what the hell are you doing? Just throw it to
the tall guy? How hard is it?

Speaker 1 (10:46):
News talk has it been?

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Anyway?

Speaker 2 (10:49):
So Marcus is I think is he trying to run
a book here on how much longer Scott Robinson's got left?

Speaker 3 (10:55):
And he's not the only person who he thinks is
for the chopping block. And here we are again it's
all about the all Blacks four.

Speaker 6 (11:02):
What about Gregor paul ge He takes the highs of
the lines, but it doesn't he boy, oh boy.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Now it's like it will. This week was all fantastic.
Now it's all Helen, a handcut hand basket, cheap as creepers.

Speaker 5 (11:16):
I wonder who'll last longer the All Blacks coach or
the Prime minister.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
I mean realistic, it's a fair question.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
I'm not saying anyone's going to go soon, but you know,
I wonder how long Robinson's got, how long Luxon has gone.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
He'll go first. She there's an extraordinary sport in the weekend.
Could they just swap could they just swap them out?

Speaker 2 (11:37):
You have Razor a go at leading National and lux
and a go at leading the All Blacks because he
is a Rugby fan. I used to hang around in
the Crusaders dressing ring quite a bit and they could
fast tracks some points, kick some Australian ass, scrape the

(12:00):
barnacles off, the wine.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Out, get the high fall car out of the ditch.
You see where I'm going with this. Anyway, there's probably
enough of that.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
It's enough of everything in fact at the end of
the podcast, and I'll start it up again about this
time tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
See you then used.
