Used Talk said, be you talk.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hello, my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the bean for Thursday.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
This is yesterday's news.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I am Glen Hart, and we are looking back at Wednesday,
which was an OCR day, so half percent or fifty
points or whatever.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
It was compelling stuff for sure.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Our ride talks free speech and whether it's okay to
tell everybody where when simpeters where we wins Peter's lives,
and then Marcus is up to his eyeballs and avocados.
But before any of that, just a little health check
on the country. We're sick of it. Ever, what's happening here?
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I'm not pointing the finger. I'm looking at myself in
the mirror. I knew the amount I was drinking wasn't
healthy for me, but I did it anyway until I stopped,
until I thought, no, this is no, this can't go on.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
This is silly.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
You're fat, you're unhealthy, you're falling over. Well, I fell over,
broke a bone. Enough, you know enough, and so you stop,
But you do it until you don't. But at what point.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
I cannot believe that the kids that are going into
the dairies before school that I used to see on
my commute, who were buying the virulently colored soft drink
and the pie for breakfast, I cannot believe that they
did not know that that was an unhealthy breakfast. They
(02:05):
know it's unhealthy, but they choose to do it. So
I just don't You could throw all the money in
the world at education programs until people decide they're worth more,
they deserve more in their life. They are the ones
(02:31):
individuals are the ones who have to decide for themselves
that they deserve better in life, that they deserve to
look after their bodies. And I don't know how you
do that. I would love to hear from you on this.
Is there anybody in the world that doesn't know how
(02:51):
to live a healthy life? It's all a matter of choice.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Comes back to the old personal responsibility question, doesn't it.
Do we want the government to wipe our bumbs for us,
because that's where you get into banning things then and
so all these temptations just skip banned and then they
don't tempt you anymore.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
But is that the world that we want to live
in because you've got to have a treat every now
and again, don't you.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
It's the guy who's desperately trying to lose about twenty
five kilos at the moment, I'm about six kilos in.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
I'll get there.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
News talk z Been.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
By the way, it's not for cosmetic reasons.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
It's for things like, you know, joint pain, cholesterol levels,
blood pressure, stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Like curious is kicking myself alive?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Because yeah, it turns out you just can't have a
secret pie every second day now. So our day yesterday,
So I guess we're as far as News talks and
be is concerned. It was a celebration day because they
went the half of percent of most.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Finally, the Reserve Bank has caught up with the rest
of us. The economy is cooked and we need to
do something, so they have delivered it. They admit that
this is a signal. The signal is it's okay to
go out and spend and invest because they've realized finally
that people are freaked out. Right, there have been too
many predictions of green shoots just before the economy falls again,
(04:20):
which freak people out. There have been too many bad
surprises which freak people out. Business confidence is shot. Look
at the qbso yesterday. Consumer confidence is also yet slightly increasing,
but still really negative. People are holding onto their money,
they're saving instead of spending. They're worrying instead of investing.
This cut is a circuit breaker that's supposed to snap
(04:41):
us out of a fair our fear. Now there are
some who worry that we are actually already so freaked
out that even this cut, given how big it is,
could spook us all over again. It's possible, maybe it
would happen, but I think what's more likely is that
it's going to give the assurance that people need, and
the assurances that the people in charge of the economy
actually realize how bad things are and are prepared to
(05:01):
be bold. And finally, they are prepared to be bold,
and I'll tell you what, it's better late than never.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I don't understand why we have a reserve When.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Couldn't the news do hit Zippy your host just get
together and decide what the interat great is going to
be every time, because they always sound like they know
so much more than the Reserve Bank does. I don't
know how where they got these people at the Reserve Bank.
It sounds like compared to the news Door's your v hosts,
(05:31):
jes Talk zib, I mean even the afternoon show, who
I wouldn't have immediately assumed with the greatest financial experence
in the world, But here you go.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
That actually fills me full of a little bit of hope.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:44):
I just feel like maybe and like these kind of
changes take a while to filter down into the system.
They do, But I think in terms of just something
to make people feel like there's been a little bit
of fuel poured on the economy. Yeah, I think that's
that's great. I mean I was thinking it should be
fifty points last time you did. Yeah, but I think
(06:06):
I think this is a good thing.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
It's the green shoe we need right now.
Speaker 5 (06:09):
So I'm very happy.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
There'll be a lot of people very happy.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
I think I'm due to refix part of our mortgage
in about a month's time, so that's good timing.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
But yeah, happy days.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
We just need the boardrooms, the CFOs and the CEOs
around this country to you know, they're talking about their
lack of confidence. They need to manufacture the confidence. Start
taking some risks. Yes, get amongst it.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Love this store.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
Fifty basis points. Let's go that. If that's not enough
to stop you, you know, complaining and winging at the
very tops of our companies. And then what is get on.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
With it but a confidence but of optimism.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
See great financial advice from the Afternoon show there. Let's go,
let's go indeed and all that entails.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Right free speech?
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Everybody loves it until it's something that you don't agree
with or has negative effects. So yeah, docxing Winston Peters?
Is that good use of the free speech thing?
Speaker 7 (07:21):
Yesterday when the Talco, when one in Z decided to
pull those ads with the activist, I had a genuine
moral conundrum. See I think people should be able to protest,
not in work uniform obviously, and not get the sack.
I don't like canceling people in this case. The fact
she gave out Winston's address on the internet probably crosses
(07:43):
the line. But if we're being honest, did it need
to take a crowbar through his front window shattering glass
onto poor Kobe the dog for the head honchos at
one enz to tank action. She'd been plastered all over
the news for sharing his address for days before crowbar
at glass. I don't like that she's been canceled to
be honest with you, But I can see why they
(08:04):
did it. And as for activists more generally, apparently there's
a shortened street act are packing his bag for some
flotilla somewhere. They're just annoying, aren't they. Don't you just
find them annoying, whether it's the priest settle chaining themselves
to an electroc office, just annoying. You know, who doesn't
need a lecture on gigo politics of the Middle East
from a guy who wears a fake stethoscope for.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
A living, Like what do they think? Anyway?
Speaker 7 (08:29):
In most cases the real subject matter, of course, is themselves.
In most cases they achieve nothing, and in most cases
they're ignored. And the beauty of democracy, along with freedom
of speech, is that we can do that.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
But these people are only annoying once they get the publicity.
Like if nobody, you know, made the connection that the
woman was on the one New Zealand ad and publicized that,
then what the hell difference would it make? But somewhere
(09:04):
somewhere has decided, oh, we need to expose that even
though it's not written, the two things aren't really connected.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
I wouldn't have thought. I don't know. I'm not quite
sure what all let's got to do with free speech. Actually,
there's too much speech, generally, too many people.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Blaring on news talks it bean. Actually, let's have a
little bit more blaring on now that I think of it,
because some people I never get sick of their blather.
And one of those people is definitely Marcus Slash And
as evocados.
Speaker 8 (09:37):
Anyone over, anyone over avocados? Yet, men, they're even a
dollar each in v cargo. They are famously cheap at
the moment, frighteningly cheap. You haven't We might have some
evocata discussion. How much guacamole can you eat? They taste
(09:58):
better when they're a bit pricier, aren't they?
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Feud?
Speaker 8 (10:02):
You guys eat as many of them?
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Interesting? Interesting? Cool?
Speaker 2 (10:06):
There the things that are harder to get taste better.
Supposed there's a certain truth for that, isn't it? Because
if you day have it very often, you're sort of
you don't get sick of it. I don't think I
could ever get sick of their vocados or guacamole, other
than the fact that it says I said before, they
are about fattening I'm not supposed to be, but I thought,
isn't it and they are super food?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Isn't it good? Fat? All I know is that.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
I made too much guacamole last night, because yeah, when
they are like fifty cents and ever so, oh, buye
a few more, stack them at, nash them at, have
them on everything.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Some people don't like them. We don't.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
I mean to be fair the guacamole. The nicest thing
about the guacamole is the lime and the salt, isn't it.
I've desperately tried to something important to say about avocados,
but I failed. If it comes to me between now
and tomorrow's episode, I'll let you know that US.
