(00:00):
Hey there, I there, it'sbeen way too long, Elliott, Joe,
We're going to the playoffs. Eshout it from the rooftop. I
love it, dude. How amazinghave the last the well? I mean,
first of all, I feel likethe last couple of weeks have been
a goddamn roller coaster that I wishwould have been sealed up long ago.
But man, the last couple ofdays have been intense. Yeah, the

(00:24):
fan base, the organization, theplayers themselves, the coaching staff, those
people should be amazingly proud of whatthis team just achieved, because I mean,
there were at least two or threespots along the way, Elliott,
where you know a lot of peoplewere leaving the caps for Gonners. This
could easily have spiraled the wrong direction. And to their credit, and it

(00:45):
starts with Spencer and the coaching staffand the leadership group on that team,
to their credit, they never letit get away. They managed somehow to
reel it back in and then inthe last couple of weeks that roller coaster
that you're referring to, it wasan amazing ride. They they don't overpower
anybody on the scoreboard, but theirdogs on a bone. They never give
up, and they've managed to keepgames close and they win all these tight

(01:07):
ones, and that's enough to gethim across the finish line in the eighth
spot. Hey, Joe, letme ask you this. Like you talk
about the it was enough to getit done if you were if you were
going to pick let's say, topthree things, top four things, and
listen, there were points during theseason where it felt like, oh boyd,
I don't know that this is goingto happen. Well, hell,
even the streak right before the pressurereally started getting ramped up. I'd like,

(01:33):
Number one, you got to goto Lindgren playing more hockey than the
kids ever played in his entire lifein a season, going back to back
in high pressure games. It justwhat he's done down the stretch. Number
one has to be him. Numbertwo I think has to be ov flipping
the switch after coming back from vacationand kind of lighting up the offense.

(01:53):
Where do you go after that?Is it just is it the youth infusion?
I don't know where you go afterthat. You nail the top two
for sure. John Carlson's play hasbeen fabulous and the demands that they've put
upon him. Elliott this season unlikeany other. I believe after eighty two
games he's gonna wind up being theguy who leads the league in average ice

(02:16):
time per game. Not only ishe playing a lot of minutes, but
they're high stress minutes. He's thefirst guy on the penalty kill, he's
the first guy in the power play. He's facing top lines when they come
over the board for the enemy.I thought he was fantastic. Probably didn't
get enough credit. Dylan Strom marvelouscover to cover as the points scoring leader,

(02:37):
really really good. And you mentionedthe kids, the young kids who
are getting a great education on thefly here, players like Connor McMichael,
Hendrix Lapierre. These guys are learningand growing together. The organization has gone
out and extended a player like twentythree year old alex State Protus. They
want him to be a part ofthat next cores. So again, for

(02:59):
those whose young players, the educationthat they were receiving down the stretch was
wonderful and now it gets even betterbecause they get to really taste the Stanley
Cup playoffs. And by the way, I wish this is where we need.
This is where I need a statisticianlike you and Locker have is when
you mentioned when you mentioned Carlson andthe amount of ice time he's logged,
and it comes to mind because theyjust celebrated his one thousandth game. I

(03:23):
would love to see the top fivedefensemen in ice time this year because I
guarantee you, and maybe I'm wrong, Joe B I guarantee you he's got
them by a number of years.Yeah, you know, the comparable would
be Drew Dowdy Elliott. Okay, sure in LA. Sure you know those
guys are really contemporaries and they haveStanley Cup resumes that Dowdy has two.

(03:47):
Drew Dowdy and John Carlson would bethe ideal compliment. I think that's the
comparable. Across the board. Drewprobably hits a bit more than John.
The offensive game for those two guyshas always been incredibly productive, and whenever
the Kings are in that critical junctureof a game, they throw their Grade
eight over the boards. And Ithink Drew is a Hall of Fame talent.

(04:11):
So for me, the comparison, the best comparison would be Carlson and
Dowdy and they're about the same age. Yeah, no, that's that's very
fair. That's good, good onyou. Hey, So let's let's look
forward. There's so many great storylinesthat come with facing the Rangers. And
I'll say this right off the bat. If you're if you're a bottom four
playoff team going up against the topfour playoff team of the top four up

(04:34):
there, I'll take the Rangers allday. Joe. Yeah, I know
what. People have asked me thatquestion before when it was you know,
on the option that it could havebeen Boston, Carolina or New York.
And I know that the Rangers havehad a brilliant season. It's a record
setting season for them in terms ofpoints, It's a President's Trophy winning season.

(04:57):
They are a locomotive. I thinkthey're excellent. But if I had
to pick one of the three betweenBoston, Carolina, and New York,
I'd be I wouldn't pick Carolina.I think Carolina would be the most difficult
in terms of straight matchups. Whateverit is the Caps seem to And again,
I don't know if you throw outthe regular season, but the last
time these two teams played was inmid January. Things have changed since then.

(05:18):
But Washington split with New York giveshim a good game, knows Peter
LaViolette's scheme and tendencies very well.I understand why you're saying that, but
trust me, that Ranger group isreally good. Oh yeah, no,
listen once and once La Fregnier reallystarted to click this year, that changed
that whole line that he's on panerenIs is you know, easily could be

(05:41):
in the conversation for MVP. Idon't think he gets on the ballot,
but could easily have done it,like they've got they've got Jacob Truba is
a beast back on defense, shasterkinin net. When he's going, he
is going. He's one of thebest in the league when he's going.
And again, I don't know why, but it's just there's something. Maybe
it's lavia Lette, and I justlook at him and go like, okay,

(06:03):
but there is. And they did. They won the President's Trophy.
They had a fantastic year. Butif there was one that I could pick
going in, I like us goingup against them. I don't go in
going like, oh boy, I'mscared of them. Who knows how it
goes, but I'm excited that we'regoing up against the Rangers. You and
I don't talk enough. You're reallygood at this, Oh, thank you,

(06:24):
you're really good at this. Tome, they're playing with house money.
The Caps should come in free andeasy. The Rangers will be the
prohibitive favorite in the series, andWashington has done everything that it could in
the last month to get in andjust get it across the finish line and
pick up that second wild card. The guys should be feeling great about themselves.

(06:46):
They shouldn't have any fear, regardlessof it was Carolina, Boston,
New York, whomever. They dida tremendous job. Washington to do what
they did to rally the way theydid, even with you pointing out the
losing spelled down the stretch here, they had to win the games late and
they did it. And playing aNew York team that is obviously going to

(07:09):
be the favorite. I think theRangers have all the pressure on them.
That's the team that's supposed to prevailand get through the East. The East
has a lot of mine fields.Washington gets started in New York and it's
you know, a lot of theseguys, especially the Championship Corps for the
Caps, they know what it's allabout to go up to Madison Square Garden

(07:30):
to feel that crush in that arena. They'll be able to spread that news
to the younguns. And hopefully, you know, if you get a win
in there early, if you cansteal home ice early against the Rangers,
all of a sudden, the pressureof being that big time favorite can wear
on them. And you know theother thing, and like we talked about
the storylines, right, so it'sLavia led against his former team. It's

(07:51):
the lyn Gren brothers playing against eachother. I hope every one of those
kids, McMichael Lapierre Iorio. Iorio, by the way, has been fantastic.
Hope. I hope every one ofthose kids go in there and go,
hey, thanks for keeping a lavalette, thanks for keeping your foot
on our heads. We're getting readyto roll. No it is. It's

(08:15):
a tasty, tasty subplot very muchso these two organizations will know each other
well because of it. And schematically, I believe Washington has a really good
book on New York because it's thebook that they used for a while while
Peter was here. Defensively, I'mcurious because I saw Rasmus Sandeen two days

(08:37):
ago skating pretty easily free and easily. He was in a no contact Jersey
which means he's not clear for hittingyet. But I think Rasmus was feeling
well and that's a that would bean added benefit to get him back sooner
than later. The same for NickJensen. Jensen I haven't seen on the
ice, but I was told hewas around the facility. We were all

(08:58):
told and led to believe, youknow, to that amazing hit that he
took. I don't know how hedid it, but he walked out of
the building under his own power thatnight. So again, is he a
ways away? I'm sure we'll we'llsee. It's always a cat and mouse
game with regard to injuries come playofftime. But I wouldn't be surprised if
this week, these next three daysare really good for Rasmus. Hopefully he

(09:18):
gets into a hitting practice and he'llbe ready. But in the meantime,
Wow for Iorio, Wow for maclrath, for them to come in from a
tremendous Hershey Bears team in the AmericanLeague and do what they did. You
know, the coaches again, Ithought, Mitch Love, Scotty Allen.
They did a terrific job of puttingthose guys in positions where they could succeed

(09:41):
and that's going to require you toplay Faerovar. He and Carlson an awful
lot, and those two Warriors werebrilliant the last few games, especially forty
two and seventy four. Big thumbsup. Hey, last three things and
then I'll let you go real quicklyin terms of health and being able to
recover. I was looking the Knickshave a game on Saturday at six pm,

(10:01):
which has got to meet The serieswill start Sunday? Is that is
that official yet? But I can'timagine it starts before Sunday. Officially,
no, but we've been led tobelieve that that's the day. Any word
out of New York. If Rempydresses for the playoffs, that's a great
question. He's in the lineup thelast game of the season. I'm looking
at their lineup and I called thema locomotive earlier that they're stacked. I

(10:24):
mean, they have, oh yeah, so much in so many different places.
And Rempy. It's interesting the Capitalshave not faced the Rangers since Rempy's
arrival on the scene, and allthe fisticuffs that have come from him six
foot seven, two hundred and fortyfive pounds truck. Good lord, yeah,
Lord, Wow. Yeah, theyyou know they have they have it.

(10:48):
You mentioned Truba, he's a hammerback there. I love what they
do on defense. Lyndren's brother isoutstanding. I know you and I haven't
talked enough about Charlie. We couldspend twenty five minutes talking about what Charlie
Lingrin has done. But that'll bea great contest the Lyndren Bowl. Fox
is such a heady player, sosmart. KeAndre Miller is another guy.
I mean, you talk about KingKong and got Jilla out there. I

(11:09):
mean, child lord, they arebig, rangey, fast. There's a
reason they won fifty five games. And you touched on it too. Schastkin
and quick and the goal. Bothof those guys are excellent and Igor when
he's on, it's lights out.Yeah, no, I mean it is.
And just going back to Charlie,I mean, listen, the guy

(11:30):
was brought in as a backup andstole the job away from a Stanley Cup
winner. And that's not a shotat Darcy, but I mean what he's
done is remarkable. It really is. He threw the whole thing on his
back. It just said, herewe go, helped me out a little
bit in front, and like youtalk about the coaching staff and putting players
in the right places. But hehas done an outstanding job. Kids never
played this much in his whole life, especially not under this kind of pressure.

(11:54):
And what he's done, what he'sdone is amazing, it really is.
And really congrats to Darcy, seebecause Kemper lost that job so swiftly
and he shows up at the rinkwith a smile on his face. His
attitude is very, very good.He has not been a pain in the
neck to any stretch. To myunderstanding, He's been the consummate understudy and
been helping Charlie where never needed. But wow, has Lindrin come on quickly?

(12:18):
And to do it at age thirty? Right, Elliott is so unusual.
Right, This is a player whohas been working his way at the
development level to earn an opportunity, gets the chance to be a backup to
Darcy, and all of a suddenhis game blossoms at age thirty. And
to see him work every day withScott Murray mentally and physically. How taxing

(12:41):
this game is on goalies and maybeeven more so mentally when you're talking about
the strain of a back to backgame. These guys are world class athletes.
They can handle the back to backgames as goalies. It's the mental
part where they have to be sofocused and concentrated upon what they're doing.
It's hard to do it night afternight on consecutive night. And Charlie's been

(13:01):
awesome and up to the task, and he gives them amazing confidence. Eliott,
they know how good he's been playing. And when you get goaltending like
that, you can overcome a lotof your mistakes. In the past,
this Capitol's team has always been knownto outscore its mistakes. Right, Okay,
if they play sloppy on defense, that's okay, they'll win it five
to four. Right. They can'tdo that anymore. Now. They have

(13:24):
to win games two one and threetwo, and you do that by getting
exquisite goaltending and Lingren's provided that.Hey, last thing, do you ever
go back and watch your calls?Like? Will you do you? Will
you and Locker ever sit down andgo, hey, let's go watch our
call from last night. I don'tdo it with Craig. I do it
on my own. Yes, yes, I think, just like just like
any other player or athlete or actoror actress, I want to review my

(13:48):
work and see where I can getbetter. So yeah, I will take
a peek at it from time totime, whether it be as a re
air just during the day i'll popit on, or just a highlight bed.
But yeah, I want to makesure I'm doing my best and you
do great Joby. You know thatyou what you do, You're You're one
of the best at what you do. However, at the two eleven mark

(14:09):
of the second period last night,Charlie Lindren made a save with his leg
pad and a sound came out ofyour mouth, Joe that I've never heard
before, not sure if I recallit was, And Joe, don't hate
me for this. I had todouble check and make sure I wasn't watching

(14:30):
porn hub. There was a soundthat came out of you. I was
like, oh my god, whathappened to Joe b I'm waiting, Oh
wait, can I feed it downthe I don't know that I can feed
it. Hey, Joe, Igot to put you on hold. You'll
be able to hear it. Ihave horrible equipment. I'm gonna put you
on hold. You're scaring me.Should be alarmed. No, I've been

(14:54):
playing it all morning, all righthere we go, Hold on here,
hold on one second, hold onone second. Wait, different games,
the clips to try stop rebounds.Oh magnificent. It was the whoo oh
oh yeah, yeah, yeah,oh Charlie. Charlie can do that.
Guys can do that. Joe By, you are the best. I am

(15:20):
so excited that we're going. We'replayoff bound. We're in the playoffs.
Baby. Anything can happen, andit starts with that guy seventy nine A
man, Hey, Joe, I'msure we'll get caught up with you during
the playoffs. I appreciate you takingthe last minute time this morning. Anytime
you need me, elliot, Iappreciate it. Thanks for talking hockey.
