Speaker 1 (00:00):
You have a kid in you have a kid in college.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I do. I do Colorado State.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Oh excellent, good for you. And did you go out
for Parents' Weekend?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
I did? Indeed, it was just two weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Oh, good deal.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
And was there anything like was it around, Like was
there a football game or something like that, a sporting
event that was kind of built into it?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yep, there was a like Paris weekend. It was an alumni weekend.
So there was a big football game going on. There
was tailgating, there were tents set up.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
It was epic, right tailgating. I'm just writing this down.
Tent setup. That sounds right now.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Let me ask you this, Other than the football game,
which they try to build it around, I understand that
what other activities because the schools always have activities set up?
What other activities did the school have set up that
you took part in?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
So I didn't make it, But because I came in
late Friday and I've been Friday, they had a big
bonfire before the game. Saturday morning, they had a five
k around the campus that I did do. Then in
the afternoon they had tailgating. On the one side, they
had the tent saw set up and then they had
like a big thing like if you know, I guess

(01:13):
for siblings and smaller kids, like all kinds of inflatables
and stuff like that. And did you say the football game?

Speaker 4 (01:18):
I wondered, did you.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Say you did or did not do the five K?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
I did do the five K? He did.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
That's the most shocking thing I've heard. No, why how
much drinking did you do? Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Quite a bit? Quite a bit.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Exactly exactly were you drinking with your kid and all
this with all with your kid and all his friends?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Oh yeah, well so yeah, so like you basically it
was weird. You walk past, like there's this whole tailgating
section and they're just like, you know, parents are just
making tons of food and just handing it out to
people as they walk. And then when you get to
the tent section, same thing. Parents will rent these tents
like a family tend for their kid and their friends,

(02:03):
and they have food and they have kegs and you're
just walking by and people were just giving you drinks.
It's just it's awesome. And then you know, so there
was some keg stands involved, there, drinking games involved.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
There you go, were you throwing dice?

Speaker 1 (02:19):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
We weren't throwing dice. There was there was this cup
game like I can't even remember the name of it,
but the object is like the two cups follow each other,
so the better you are like beer pong, quicker, you
get it. And then they stacked the cups so we're
trying to shoot the ball into like this two foot
stack of cups. Right, it was a lot of fun.
I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah, there you go. That's a boy. Good for you,
all right, but you did take in the five k.
That shocks me.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
But a lot of heavy drinking. Excellent, all right, very good,
very good, Thank you, my friend. Let me try another
one line seven.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Hi, yell the morning, Hi, good morning, Hi.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Who's this Hi?

Speaker 4 (02:56):
This is Alison from Arlington.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
I am doing well?

Speaker 6 (02:59):
Thank you?

Speaker 3 (02:59):
You went to a parent's weekend.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
I went to two of them this year. I've got
two kids in college. My daughter is at Davidson College,
which is kind of a smaller school in North Carolina,
and my son is a freshman at wake Forest University.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Which one did you do this year?

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Both of them? Both of them actually so yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
My sons was first at wake Forest and he's a
freshman and they don't do fraternity rush until the spring, right, and.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
So there were a lot of Uh. I went to
frat parties my kids, like my mom.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
The floors might be a little sticky. And this is
what this is called beer pong.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
I'm like, dude, it hadn't been that long time. It's funny,
exactly exactly. Now, let me so you have let me
show you how to handle this.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
All right, So you went to a couple of frat parties.
Did you play? Did you play beer pong?

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Yeah? I did? Actually, And let me just say, it's
like riding the bike. Just say that, of course it is.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Let me ask you, did you did you play rage cage?

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Did not do that?

Speaker 3 (04:05):
No, no rage.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
I don't even know what that is.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Did you throw dice?

Speaker 5 (04:10):
I did not throw dice? I I saw some, but yeah, no,
I was ticking to I mean, got to ride your lane?

Speaker 4 (04:16):
You know, I got you? I got you.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
And then, just out of curiosity, what other events had
the school set up for parents to take part in,
like lecturers or like tours?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
How many of those did you do well?

Speaker 5 (04:29):
I was going to say that those two different answers
to that question. They had set up tours and lectures
and you could go like on a tour of the
library and you could see the computer lab. And I
did zero of that.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
I just wasn't.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
I'm here for fun, and.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
I just want to be clear, like you're you're you
said you're you at Wake Forest, your kid is a
is a freshman. Yes, was that the most drunk the
two of you have gotten together.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
I'm gonna have to say yes, because I was pretty strict.
I mean, he's my he's actually my third kid, and
so I was pretty strict with him about look, high school,
you've got to, you know, focus that you're under eight
you're eighteen and under. You can't go do anything. But
in college, you know, you're on your own, go have fun.
And so I would say that was the first time
that we had ever had drinks together, and it was beautiful.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
He's like, this is the best, beautiful.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
I just want again.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
I just want to keep tabs uh university sponsored events,
zero frat parties and just like tailgate drinking a lot.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
Yeah, to me, that was kind of like the point,
you know, I was obviously I encourage him and expect
him to go to classes and to take part in
all the the reason that he's there is to be
a student.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
But when I'm there or you know, and his dad
and I are there for parents weekend, it's like we
want to have fun with you and see, you know.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
You tell us about the classes, and you're going to
class and you're studying and that's great, and you know
where the library is.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
That's all a great.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, but let's see what the six are doing. All right,
very good, very good. I appreciate it, Thank you, ma'am.
Let me try another one, Lyne too.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Hi, Elliot in the morning. Hello, yeah, Hi, who's this Jennifer? Yes, Jennifer,
parents weekend?

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Where did you go just a couple of weeks ago?

Speaker 4 (06:27):
University of Virginia?

Speaker 6 (06:28):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (06:29):
UV, A of course. And now let me ask you this.
They had there, I'm sure they had activities around. How
much drinking did you do?

Speaker 7 (06:38):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (06:38):
We We took in a few drinks for sure.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
The tailgating, tailgating? All right, very good. You did shots?

Speaker 4 (06:48):
I did not. I'm not a shot person.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
What were you drinking? Oh good, so you went a
little high brow. Did you play any games? You played
beer pong? Did you play rage cage? Did you throw dice?

Speaker 5 (07:04):
No?

Speaker 3 (07:04):
None of that did you get tipsy? Yes, with your
kid it was.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
No.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
He works for the football team, so he doesn't get
to partake in the.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Buy.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
We just parted without him.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
And then let me ask you this.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
For parents weekend, how was the welcome speech by any
of like the uh like maybe it's the the dean
or the professor of the president.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Did you go to the welcome speech for parents? We
did not.

Speaker 7 (07:40):
They did have a they they did have an event
for the kids that work for the football team the
night before, and we went to that.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
That was very nice, right.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
What about taking a tour of like any of the
libraries or study facilities.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
No, No, just just that.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Well I had that big tailgate that I went to
that was big, and then I had.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
That Friday night of course.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
All right, good, so again school sponsored event. Zero drinking. Absolutely, yes,
I have a question. Thank you, ma'am, thank you. Has
it always been that way?

Speaker 8 (08:18):
Has it?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Remember? Has it always been that way? A family weekend
at Georgetown? I know for sure.

Speaker 9 (08:25):
I've told you my mom never visited me during the
school year, so I know I never had a parent
come for the weekend.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
I promise you they had parents Weekend.

Speaker 9 (08:34):
No, No, I think they did, but the participation was
zero because.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
It wait so like Joe's parents never came to visit
for like Parents'.

Speaker 9 (08:42):
Weekend, not for a specific weekend where multiple parents were there.
Oh really, and I'm talking about every year, not just
freshman year, no kidding, And I just checked, Like the
highlight of this year's family Weekend at Georgetown was a
outdoor screening of Kung Fu Handa.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
No, it wasn't amazing.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
No, So I just I don't think.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
I don't think it's a well attended So you don't
think you don't think parents Weekend is a thing at Georgetown.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
It's a thing. It's just not a thing.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Right, But is it so? But like so parents aren't
coming and getting fed up with their kids. I don't
remember one party right with parents?

Speaker 3 (09:24):
When did it change?

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Because they was so I was reading this thing that
talks about here's your headline, it's ten am, Dad's doing
jello shots.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Must be Parents' weekend?

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Is they talk about all all parents Weekend is turned
into which, by the way, I am not judging at all.

Speaker 8 (09:41):
No, but I think if you if you've got like
a big football program and it's coinciding with with parents
and homecoming weekend and everybody's coming in and everybody's tail
gaining anyways, So then if you're if your kid's in
a fraternity or a sorority, they've got their own little
things going on. And maybe it's just because by the way, compass.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
But it doesn't have to be a big football program.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Now, I have a kid that goes to a school
that doesn't have a big football program, but we tore
up a parking lot.

Speaker 9 (10:07):
You guys tailgate though, say again, you have a tailgating
like hours before the game. Georgean doesn't have that the
that's true. That is true.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
So they weren't even for this year's past weekend.

Speaker 9 (10:21):
It looked like they were featuring soccer, not that you
can't tailgate for soccer, but the football team wasn't even
on the schedule.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
They may have been away that weekend, okay, but also
it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
It could have been anything like, yes, I went to
the tailgate at Miami before they played.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
It tore up the parking lot. We also went out on.

Speaker 9 (10:37):
Friday night, right, But I'm just saying I think that
that social culture of the tailgate can give you an
indication of what the parents' weekend is going to be like, oh.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
I can tell you what it's going to be, like
you are getting hammered. Remember it was family weekend at
Cincinnati when we were there. Yeah, oh that's right, remember that.
And we could see them setting up for that game, right,
but really game.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
But I promise you if you would have walked through
like wherever, like the fraternity houses are, they're all set up,
not even the fraternity houses, but like the adjacent fraternity houses.
Like not everybody can live in the fraternity house, so
they live in the off house.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
I guarantee you that off house.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Is blaring music and there is a ton of drinking
going on. But they were saying, no, there's no parent
that goes to parents weekend where they're like, oh you
know what, like there was Miami had had a comedian
that they brought in. I bet he played to two people. No,
that's not necessarily president and the president's wife. Other than that,

(11:39):
everybody was out.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Was it as like a nationally touring comedian?

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Yes, sal Volcano, who's that from Impractical Jokers?

Speaker 3 (11:49):
Oh oh, the True TVs Show?

Speaker 4 (11:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Yeah, I bet nobody went. I bet it was empty.
He may have drawn a little bit no, yeah, maybe
kids with no parents or kids that are no fun.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
My parents only came freshman year.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Did Frank get tanked up?

Speaker 6 (12:08):
No, it's like they they no, it's like you go
to the welcome.

Speaker 8 (12:12):
They took me out to dinner and took me out
the lunch, showed me the you know, we showed them
around campus.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
That was about it.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
And I can tell you this Parents Weekend at Tennessee
starts the week before and it is I mean, that
is a madhouse of drunk parents.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
And what's what keeps saying? Rage? What is that just
another game?

Speaker 10 (12:36):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Is it a card game? The cups?

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Yeah, yeah, with the table, Yeah, it's just another way
to play.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
It's another excuse just to get hammered, feel out of it.
Never heard of it, Oh, rage, cage dice throwing, I
definitely never saw that at any point.

Speaker 6 (12:50):
Like gambling dice throwing.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
No, just on the big table where you chunk the
dice all the way in the air.

Speaker 6 (12:56):
Now, back in my day, we played quarters.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Well, no quarters, no quarters.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Gag stands absolutely by the way, walking through the tailgate,
everybody's got jello shots.

Speaker 9 (13:08):
But everyone's saying like Aaron. None of my parents ever
came for a parents weekend. Hughes says, I don't remember
our parents weeking at ODU. But we didn't have a
football team back then. Yeah, we didn't either. Buck says,
I'm a tyler. I went to VCU and Longwood mid
two thousands, and parents did not hang around at parties
that would have been creepy as hell.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Oh it's all parents. It's all parents and their kids,
and it's awesome.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
I do think that it needs to be.

Speaker 9 (13:33):
A school, and at least for it to be historically
like this, it needs to be a school that has
that pre game.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Activity, no matter the size of the program. Correct, Because again,
Miami doesn't have a big football team. It's a hockey school.
They don't have a big football program. But it didn't
didn't stop people from tearing up that parking lot. You
can play cornhole anywhere.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Where am I going?

Speaker 10 (14:00):
Line too?

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Hi? Elliet the morning, one two three? I got you?
Who is this?

Speaker 11 (14:07):
Hey? This is Rob from Annapolis?

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Yes, sir, so I.

Speaker 11 (14:11):
Have to have twofold. I don't drink.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
I have.

Speaker 11 (14:14):
I have worked a parents weekend As far as cooking
food for everybody, right, and the level of food that
we cook for everyone is insane, so we get all
the parents just to be happy. I don't drink. So
I went to all like the the things that everything
opposite of what you said. I went to.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Oh so you went to the welcome speech, you went
to the tour of the library, you went to the
historical tour.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
No offense, Tyler, So.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
You did all of that while every other parent was
snot sling and drunk.

Speaker 11 (14:44):
I did that, and I want and watched. I went
and watched all the parents get slapsing and drunk.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
There you go.

Speaker 7 (14:51):
I went.

Speaker 11 (14:51):
I went to I went to I went to a
football game that day at Appalachian State, and uh yeah,
everybody around me was trashed, and I just had a
great time laugh looking.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
It's awesome checking it all out.

Speaker 11 (15:02):
It's I actually remembered both visits. So it's fantastic. Wow.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
You know what you're you're one of the few. You
were definitely one of the few. Thank you, my friend.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yes, Tyler.

Speaker 9 (15:11):
At five o'clock on Friday night, at five o'clock, from
five to five to five thirty, they did a Buddhist
meditation at Georgetown.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Oh God, I go to the movie. The movie Diane
wasn't until later. I wouldn't. I would just skip you
all of them. Is anybody drinking?

Speaker 6 (15:29):
It might be too much for a day.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
I only did a late night filming as well.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Yes, and I'm sure if you look up Appalachian State
they they had all this stuff on there too, and
nobody goes.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
But they also showed Kung Fu Panda. Oh Jesus, I
have two screenings, Hi, Elliott.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
So I'm gonna put Georgetown, Liberty and BYU all in
the same bucket.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
This is cool. No, it's not hold. I don't know
what's coming next, but it is not exclusive.

Speaker 9 (16:00):
On Saturday morning, they opened up for exclusive early access
the bookstore to all families attending the week of Wow.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Oh grandma naked, please go down, Grandma naked, please go down.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
But then you have to fight the crowds.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Oh yeah, hi Elliott the morning.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
Hello, Yeah, Hi, who's this?

Speaker 7 (16:26):
Hello?

Speaker 4 (16:27):
Hi?

Speaker 3 (16:28):
This is yes Gretchen parents weekend.

Speaker 7 (16:32):
Oh yes, my daughter goes to Coastal Carolina and Myrtle beech.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Yeah body, how drunk were you? Oh?

Speaker 4 (16:40):
It was awesome?

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Oh wait, which part was awesome? The Buddhist the Buddhist
meditation or were you just snot slinging?

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Drunk.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Oh, it was fantastic.

Speaker 7 (16:56):
They have what they call a teal gate at the
very beginning, sure have, like I think, I think Bojangles
came in and brought a bunch of chicken and stuff
and we get that.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
For free, and it is amazing.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Now you haven't been twice.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
You haven't told me how much drinking did you do?

Speaker 4 (17:16):
We did off their share right there you go, because
we stay over We stay over a broadway at the
beach by Margaritaville.

Speaker 11 (17:24):
We have to hit there first.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Yes, of course pre game, I hear you. Good for you, yes, good.

Speaker 7 (17:31):
And then we looked at teal gate and go to
the game and you know, it's it's awesome.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
That's a Their atmosphere is fantastic.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Yes, hey, let me ask you, this is parents' weekend.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Usually or by far, the most drunk you've gotten with
your kid.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
So far.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
Well she's not even well, yes, but she's not even
twenty yet. But I did buy her, like, I did
buy her a beer at the game.

Speaker 7 (17:57):
I was like, I came back with it and she
was like, oh my god.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
What was she drinking? What was she drinking during Tealgate?

Speaker 4 (18:05):
Well, you know, cheap stuff.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Oh, okay, but she was drinking beer. Yeah, no, no, no,
that's fine, that's fine. But my point is the two
of you were boozing it up together at at at
at the tailgate at Coastal Carolina.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
Oh yeah, it was awesome.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Love it, love it all right, So that is a
thank you. So that is kind of the rite of
passage for parents weekend. It's get fed up with your kid.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
That's awesome. That's great, Elliott. You please don't because you
are not. You have to select a lecture. Will you
be attending?

Speaker 1 (18:38):
By the way, I can hear uncheck on every common
app right now?

Speaker 6 (18:42):
You do that?

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Do they making sense of today's global world? That's a choice.

Speaker 9 (18:49):
Reducing patient wait times in a primary care setting to
improve patient satisfaction will be the school of nursing if
you'd like to attend that. And how bad is the
terrorism problem today? That's the wah school of.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
I don't know. They all sound so fun.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
You know, a buddy of mine has a kid that
goes to Mason and his parents right now are laying
on the on the parking lot, the cement in the
parking lot because they've had too much with their kid.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
I'm going out to Mason.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
I would leave my kid at Georgetown and drive out
to Mason just for the party.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
So you'll do the nursing one. That's Saint Mary's Hall.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Give me one more, give me line seven Hill morning,
go out there, yoga?

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Oh God? Yes, Hi? Who is this?

Speaker 10 (19:34):
I know?

Speaker 3 (19:34):
But don't worry. There is a rainsight. Hey, yeah, who's this?

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Hey?

Speaker 10 (19:39):
This is Jamie from Clifton.

Speaker 12 (19:42):
How you doing?

Speaker 3 (19:42):
You're still drunk from parents Weekend?

Speaker 10 (19:47):
Maybe I went to ECU East Carolina University.
