Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Eliott, how's it going.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
I am doing great, man. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:03):
I'm doing doing well, doing well, looking forward to tonight.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
Now you're doing goddamn well. Your points are ridiculous, dude.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Hey so Dylan.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
I believe the last time we talked was the right
towards the end of preseason, the preseason schedule was was
wrapping up and then obviously getting ready for the regular season.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
And I remember opening.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Night I had this conversation with Ted Leonsis and I
want to know if you agree with me, I said
to Ted while walking around the National Hockey media is
being very very disrespectful to this Capital's team, who I
feel like have done an excellent job retooling themselves coming
off of last year going into this year, and was
not giving you guys enough credit going into the start

(00:49):
of the season.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Agree or disagree, Yeah, I think that's fair to say.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
I think we we definitely talked about it as a team,
like we knew that people still you know, doubted less
and still after lifeast year still didn't think that we
you know, had a great you know, a good chance
of scoring lots of goals or you know, being competitive
with the with the good teams in the league. I
think through fourteen games, we definitely showed that we can
be competitive with those teams.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
We've found a way to beat some really good teams
at home, you know, stuggled a little bit on the
road against some against.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Two really good teams in Carolina and Tampa. But I
feel like, you know, we've played, we've played pretty well
throughout the start of the season, and it's not surprising
to us, but might be surprising to some other people around.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Hey, did you think you'd have twenty two points fourteen
games into the season.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
I don't think I thought that. No, uh, to start
to start this season.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
No.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
I definitely always always have believed in myself and my
abilities and and you know, I know we have some
great chemistry on our team, and I don't think anyone
could have predicted we would score, you know, as many
goals as we've scored so far.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
But I felt like we knew we were a better team.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
And usually when you you know, you add the right
pieces to a team, it seems to kind of all
mesh together.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
And I feel like that's what's kind of happened so far.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
Just we feel confident going into games that you know,
we can hang with anyone, and that's good for me
to have.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
You know what, Dylan, and I'm gonna be completely honest
with you, like if we if you go back to preseason,
you were skating on that line. It was you, Ovechkin
and Manngia Pani were skating on that top line. And
then we got I think about two games into the season,
it was like, well we're changing and Alexi Protas became
part of the of that line with you and Alex

(02:24):
And at first I was like, uh oh, I don't
know if we're like and again nothing against and he's
just a younger kid, right, But in my head I
was like, I don't know if that line, Oh my god,
that line has clicked and is working beautifully together. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
I definitely think it's a testament to the coaching staff.
They made that switch after one game and you know,
it's just clicked really well ever since. That pro is
you know, a guy with such a big, long stride
and he can find his way behind the other teams
that you know, he helps a lot of the defensive zone.
I think he makes great moves all around, you know,

(03:01):
and it's just been a you know, a great a
great combination to have. So you know, we've we've loved
playing with him so far, and he's he's producing, which
obviously is is a huge part of you know, trying
to help the team win.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Hey.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Also, I was reading something Dylan and maybe we can
get a little hockey nerdy here if you don't mind,
But I was reading something where where you were talking
about how one of the beauties of I mean, listen,
it sucks that Nicholas Baxtrom is on L T I R.
But one of the beauties of him being here is
his ability to watch the team and see the team
and and specifically spend time with you and talk about

(03:37):
how to be the the right center for alex Ovechkin,
how to be I guess the correct center for alex
Ovechkin kind of nerdy a little.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Bit, but like what kind of what kind of stuff
does he tell you?

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yeah, So it was more more last year when he
was on the team and there the lines were kind
of shuffling all over the place, and I was playing
with Ovechkin during last year when when he was there,
so more at the beginning, but it was kind of
just you know, it's just.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Like Ovi is a guy that that you know, really
likes to get open in the offensive zone.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
He's not one that's gonna carry the puck up through
the neutral zone a ton, So just finding ways to
to get him to puck and in the right areas,
not just you know, directly deferring to him and like
in your own zone or in the neutral zone, you know,
try to try to spread the puck all over the
ice and then you know where he's kind of going
to be an offensive zone. So that's kind of kind
of what I watched from him and kind of what

(04:31):
we talked about a little bit at the beginning of
last year.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
So you know, he's he's around a little bit now.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
We kind of see him every every year, you know,
so often I think he doesn't want to, you know,
he doesn't want to step on anyone's toes.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
He doesn't want to. He's out of the team obviously
right now.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
So it's you know, it's one of those things that
he's going to be a Caps sledgend forever and and
I'm assuming his number is going to be in the
raft for at some point, and you know, it's something
that everyone watched him play and everyone saw how good
he was, so it's just anytime you can get.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
A little little tippy for vimits, it's it's huge.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Hey, Dylan, can I ask you another Ovechkin question. I mean,
obviously a lot's been made. He's off to a good start.
He's got ten goals so far. Your name has been
attached to every one of them on the assists list,
although I did laugh when you were like, great, I'll
be on every one of them except that one.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
But do we is with with.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Him, with him being off to such a great start
and popping in goals the way that they're going in
right now? Does does Gretzky come up around him or
in the locker room or do we treat it like
a pitcher with a no hitter in the eighth inning.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
No, I think it's probably somewhere in between. It's definitely
like not like something that you can't talk about. I
think it's just something that car Arry said yesterday and
is in his media He said that in his media
availability yesterday, he said that, you know, Ow's a guy
that is so focused on like his next game and
his next goal, Like he's more focused on goal number
eleven than breaking the all time record at this moment.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
So I think he's really focused on like the next goal,
the next game, as opposed to like, oh, you know,
I'm thirty two goals away. I think if you do that,
you know, no one can get thirty two goals in
the game. No one can get thirty two goals even
in a month. So you know, there's there's there's lots
of time down the road, you know, to talk about that,
and I'm sure when it gets closer it'll be brought
up more, but I would say ask for right now,
it's kind of just, you know, keep racking him up

(06:17):
and let's let's keep doing this thing and let's get
it done this year.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
So we talked about how the Dylan stron line your
line is is clicking with Ovechkin in pro toss, the
Pierre Luke Di Bois, Tom Wilson, Connor McMichael line is
flying that fourth line. We even talked about it at
the beginning of the season, Dylan with Nick Dowd and
Radish and who.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Am I forgetting? Whom I forget?

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Do Hame yeah, do hayin. Yeah, I love that line.
That line is still so much fun to lot. But
we've and I don't. I don't want this to come
across like I'm being a dick. That third line of
finding that right chemistry has been a little bit off
if and listen, I mean you could watch, and he's
trying and changing some stuff around. When the Larzeller news
came down yesterday that we had traded for Ller, at

(07:05):
first I didn't know what to make of it, and
then sat with it for a moment and was like, Okay,
you know what, let's bring back a center.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
He's going to be a third line center. Maybe it
gives some stability.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
He's got history with some of the guys on the team,
he's been in it for a while. Maybe it gives
a little bit to that third line, where now we've
got all four lines that are clicking and listen, in
some cases that line is, but maybe there's a little
more stability. And I think I came away with the
second part being these games count, These points count. You

(07:36):
see teams make changes at the trade deadline. But if
you can make a trade now and maybe fix what
has been I don't want to call it a problem,
but you understand what I'm saying, why not do it now?
And I came away going maybe this helps that line,
and also what a great vote of confidence in the team.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head
with pretty much everything you just said. I think, you know,
we're in a fortunate situation where, you know, not not
every team is lucky enough to have, you know, three
lines with very very good chemistry right now. And I
wouldn't I wouldn't even say that the third line right
now doesn't have great chemistry because they've found a way
to score some goals that when we needed a goal,

(08:16):
they've got six or seven goals at five on five,
which is which is obviously very important. I think just
you know, lots of guys are very familiar with Lars.
He's a great team bait. You know, he's a you know,
a really super nice guy. And he also can can
win some face offs, he penalty kills, he plays in
the power play sometimes.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
You know, he's kind of a really versatile guy.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
And I think, like Carbury said, just kind of his
his familiarity with the area and the team.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
I think it's just it's definitely early to be making moves.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
But hey, like you said, I if they think that's
an area of need, then you know, it's only going
to make our team better. So it's a it's exciting
to to have, like you said, like that vote of
confidence from the organization that you know they see a
potentially a shoe that that may come up her, a
potential area that they think that can make stronger, and
know you've got to be happy with that.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
We talked about also Matt Roy joining the team, Jacob
Chickrin joining your old roommate Ja Jacob Chickern joining the team.
Glad that they're back and playing regular like they're there.
Whatever nagging injuries they had are gone. But another person
that we had mentioned right before the season started is
Dylan McElrath.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
And I love his story. I love that kid.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
I mean, he's a man that he cracked the lineup,
he made the team. That video that came out of
him doing the starting lineup in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
I just I love his story. His story is great.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah, he's the best.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
Like I, I'm fortunate enough that my little brother plays
on her. Sheey obviously, and you got to play the
last two years with maclareth and he's never said one
bad word about the guy. He's He's said he's the
best captain he's ever had. And you can kind of
just see here, like obviously he hasn't played in the NHL,
you know too much, but he's he's just a leader,
like you know, a natural born leader.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
He just you know, when he talks, people listen. He
likes to have fun, he likes to keep it light.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
He's you know, you know, up there with the toughest
guys in the league, as shown in his first two
fights of the year. And it's just a great guy.
I have, great guy to have on your team. You know,
he's not gonna shy away from anyone.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
He does his job, you know, very well. Shipped in
with a couple of assists. He's been a plus player.
I mean, not enough good things you can say. And
just like you said, a story like that, you know,
he hasn't played a full year in the NHL, I
don't think in his career, and he's on.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Track to do that now. And someone that got drafted
I think.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
In twenty ten, so fifteen years ago, fourteen and a half,
fifteen years ago, that's a that's that's a pretty remarkable story.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
So you know, crudous to him.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Who was more excited after the Matt Rempey fight the
bench or Dylan McElrath.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
I'm gonna go with the bench from the over bench obviously. Renpy.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
You know, we played him last year in the playoffs
and he, you know, he he knocked a couple of
guys out with some hits and some things like that.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Listen. He's an effective player.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
He he you know, he does a does a good
job when he's on the ice, and he he can
lay guys out and he makes massive hits and he
backs it up and he fights.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
So you know, they have a good one in him
as a hockey player.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
And and you know, I'm happy that maclrath, you know,
did pretty well against him.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
I would say, hey, so tonight we get the Toronto
maple Leafs banged up a little bit. I know Matthews
didn't play last night, Uh, PATRIRETTI not that he was
adding a ton, but is also off the ice.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
They got a couple of other guys that are banged up.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
They lost last night, so they're on the second half
of a home and home. Great opportunity to pick up
two points tonight.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
You said, you said it exactly right, all those things
adding up.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
You know, we had kind of a similar situation though,
when Pittsburgh came to town last week and they were
on the second half of them back to back and
they had lost the game before. So you know, whenever
teams lose, especially when they're coming back, you know, right after,
they don't want to you know, have two losses in
twenty four hours, So you know it's gonna be a
good game. They're you know, a highly skilled team. We
didn't beat them last year. We lost all three times

(12:05):
pretty badly too, So I know, uh, you know, we've
gonna want to win one for Carbs here against this
former team, and hopefully we can do that tonight.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Hey do does the media let back to back games?
Does the media make too much about back to back?
And how how Dylan? How old are you?

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Twenty seven?

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Okay, you're healthy enough, in a strong enough kid, you
can play back to back nights. But the media makes
it sound like it's so freaking hard to play back
to back.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
You know, I think it's just I don't think it's
you know, I don't think it's necessarily that hard to play.
I think like everyone obviously everyone does it. I think
that the big thing is that the one team is
rested and the other team is not rested.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
I do think that that.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
I do think it plays a big factor in the
in the game, like when you're so pretty much they
think about it. They finished the game at ten thirty
last night, ten ten thirty, they're getting on a probably
driving their cars at the airport, you know, got to
go through customs, probably not getting to Washington until around
one one thirty. And then you still have the adrenaline
from you know, from the game. Finally get in the
bed until a round two am, you'd think, so, you know,

(13:03):
it's just a whole different day. It's it definitely plays
a factor in the in the tiredness level. But once
you get on the game and you can kind of
weather the first period, I think, I think it turns
into pretty much normal game.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
But I definitely think there is something to it.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Okay, all right, that's fair.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
I mean, listen, I'll take it from you instead of
the media, because then I go back to Pittsburgh. Like
you said, you played a Friday night game against Pittsburgh,
we lose four to two.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
The next night we play in Saint Louis. We win
eight to one.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
And listen, either Saint Louis sucks really bad, which isn't
the case, or you guys were just fired up on
the second half of a back to back.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Well, think about it, like, our first period wasn't great.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
They had a bunch of chances and Logan made some
unreal saves and we were tied one one. So we
kind of got fortunate to get out of that first
period tied one one. So I think, like, you know,
if you can, like I said, you can weather the
storm in that first period and kind of get your
seatback under you and you're feeling like, okay, you know,
it's it's just a regular hockey game, I think I
think that goes a long way.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
So I think to jump on them early tonight because I.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Feel like, if you know, you get down two or three,
four nothing in the first if we take advantage of that,
you know, then they're then then they're really the winds
really out of their sales.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
I gotcha. Hey, one other thing about the schedule, So
I was looking, like I.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Said, tonight we're home against Toronto and then we leave, Uh,
Friday night you're in Denver to play the Avalanche, and
then Sunday night you're on the road in Vegas to
play the Golden Nights. That looks like to me a
Saturday night off in Vegas. Do we have a team
outing planned?

Speaker 1 (14:32):
No, No, no team outing planned.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
Uh you know, maybe if there was a day off
the next day, there might be something planned.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
But game at night, Come on, dude, Well.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
I think it's yeah, maybe eight o'clock Eastern time, but
I think it's six o'clock Vegas time, which is even
which is even worse. So no, I'm sure the guys
are gonna get you some good dinner and uh, you
know there's a you know, a thousand good places to
eat there definitely my favorite place to go.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Uh, to play on the road, we're all looking forward
to that. Oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
The rink is just awesome, Like it's like a it's
like a concert. Every time you get on the ice,
like there's so much going on. It's loud, you know,
everything is going crazy. They I don't know, I can't
really describe it.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
It's awesome.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Hey.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
So, and I know, like you get Utah on next
week on Monday, so that'll be an arena obviously that
you haven't played in before. Is there have you played
in every? Have you played in every rink at this point.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Yeah, this, Yeah, at this point, so Utah is the
only one.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
The is there one?

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Like if you love playing in Vegas on the road,
is there one you hate?

Speaker 4 (15:35):
I want to say, Like, I, for whatever reason, I
don't usually play that well in Vancouver, So I think
it's like a cool place to go and play and
it's a cool city. I just for some reason, Vancouver
for me is never never a good one.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
All right.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Last thing they will always say by American Thanksgiving, teams
will know what kind of team they are, how they are.
Like by American Thanksgiving, you have to have everything figured
out right.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
You feel good.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
I mean, it's it's a week away, two weeks away.
You feel good about where everything is.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yeah, I think it's it's hard not to.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
I think just based on where we were last year
to where we are this year. I mean I remember
hearing that sat last year at some point of about
if you're in the playoffs, you're gonna make the playoffs
or something. I would like to look back and know
if we were in the playoffs. I feel like we were,
but I don't really know.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
No, we're I think we're gonna We're in a nice
spot we've we've started out well.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
I think we know the way our team can play,
which is obviously a good thing. We kind of have
our own team identity and and we're finding ways to
to win games, whether it's you know, scoring goals or
or shutting teams down or you know, grinding it out.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
So no, it's a it's a good good uh, a
good mix to have. And we've been playing well.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
And it seems like just watching obviously, but it seems
like it's a it is a tight knit, good group
in the room.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Yeah, we we have fun, for sure.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
I think that that that starts from the top with
with with Ov.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
He enjoys it.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
He uh, you know, we we have. He makes it,
makes it light. He's always having fun. He loves scoring goals.
He loves when other guys score. You know we sure
you saw we sung path data carbs after after the
game to a coach before right, you know the boys
are having fun. Definitely hockey's fun right now. So I
gotta gotta ride, ride while it's up.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Excellent, best of luck Tonight, the Cats take on the
Maple Leafs.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Dylan Strom appreciate the time.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Thank you, brother, no brother, Thanks Elliott
