Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eighty percent of American households have an artificial tree.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Wow, that seems high, is that right? WHOA?
Speaker 3 (00:09):
There are Christmas tree stands everywhere? Yeah, everywhere.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
You can go to farms like what is the famous
one like Butler's Orchard where you could go like cut
down your own trees and stuff. And that's not the
only one, obviously, They're all over the place. You could
take the Is it in Pennsylvania where you take the
Express to get there?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
The train?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Like people travel for states to go to that one.
I don't remember where in Pennsylvania it is, but people
you take like the the it's not the Polar Express,
I don't It's called it Santa Express. And then you
go on tree on a train and cut down the tree.
Remember you used to be able to just stop on
the GW Parkway and cut down the tree.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Eighty percent of households American.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Right, Ah, that seems awful high.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
I'm telling you right here.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
We went to an event at Smokey Glenn last Sunday,
but it started Saturday where you could either cut your
entry down or grab one of the pre cut ones.
And on Sunday, just as they were opening the gates,
it was already cleaned out from the day before.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Was it real?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I feel we already had our fake tree from last year,
but I felt bad for those that maybe couldn't get
over there on Saturday. We only went for the chili
and the snacks, but it was at that point there
was no way they were going to last another thirty
minutes with the supply they had.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Eighty percent seems really high.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Does that mean maybe you have an artificial tree, but
you may also have a live tree. See so many
people do multi trees.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Now, I'm glad you said that.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
I just saw an interview who's the most famous when
it comes to home decor and decorating and being on
top of things.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I was gonna say, Martha start, you're exactly right.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Do you say.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
No, Diane? I love though Martha Stewart. She says that
you should have two trees per room. That if you
put no no, no room. Oh you thinking every no no.
I read that that if you have a tree in
a room, you should have two.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yes, That's how I'm hearing that too.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
No, Diana is making it sound like every room should
have two trees.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Oh okay.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
I looked down that's undoable for people cost wise and
room wise.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Do you want to be able to move in a room.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
That's why I'm saying you.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
I don't think it's like, oh, kitchen, two trees, dining
room two trees.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Even in a living room or family room, if you
have two trees, that takes up a lot of space.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
You're the one who just said a lot of people
have two trees.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
I know, and they're crazy.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
It says you should have two trees per room. That
if you have a tree in a room, you should
have two.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Of an equal size. Or can you get away with
like a ceram.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Or like a little tabletop thingy if again, I'm just
telling you she says two trees per room.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Because if you count any size, I probably have a
dozen Christmas tree but they're not all nine feet tall.
That would be something, Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
And on brand. Yeah, two trees per room. Oh and
one other thing.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Real quick, I learned a lot about I learned a
lot about Christmas trees. Has anybody ever been.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
To what does it get over the eighty percent? Now?
Speaker 3 (03:22):
That seems that I was shocked when I saw that.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
I know there's been a switch to where more people
because they're so nice.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Now, do you have that number historically?
Speaker 5 (03:32):
No?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
I just have it for it says this year, But
I don't know if it like but I find it
hard to believe it's eighty percent this year, but last
year it was only.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Twenty one year.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
I'm talking about maybe like fifty years ago.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Oh that I don't know. I have no idea. Also,
is there anybody listening that's been to Graceland for Christmas?
Speaker 5 (03:52):
Place?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
For Christmas? Absolutely? Isn't it one of the places you're
supposed to see at Christmas because of the way that
they set it up?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Is it really?
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (04:00):
I didn't know that Christian.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Will you see if you can find me somebody who's
been to Graceland just outside of Memphis for Christmas or
during the Christmas season. I don't know when they switch over,
probably Halloween, but somebody who has been to Graceland during
Christmas time?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Please?
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Eight six six to Elliott eight six six two three
five five four six eight Tallest artificial tree indoor artificial tree?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Is it some fancy hotel?
Speaker 1 (04:33):
No? The gallery of a shopping mall in Dallas ninety
five feet high. Wow, that's big part of town is
that two hundred thousand. I have no idea two hundred
thousand lights. By comparison, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree only
has fifty thousand lights.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
And you know the other thing that I learned, north
of town? Oh is it?
Speaker 6 (04:55):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (04:55):
So is it up by like Plano?
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Not that far but close?
Speaker 1 (05:01):
The National Christmas Tree right here on the ellipse. First
one was in nineteen twenty three. The tree was courtesy
of a consortium of electrical industry trade groups. Do you
know why nineteen twenty three?
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Was it a lobbying thing?
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Kind of. I mean, you're you're hitting down the right
you're hitting down the right road.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
What was it?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
It was? So they had twenty five hundred colored lights.
The tree was meant to promote the use of electricity
because in nineteen twenty three, only thirty five percent of
Americans had electric power in their house.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
So they did it as a way to encourage people
to start getting elect or not being fearful or or
holding out on getting electricity in their house. That way,
you could light it up using electricity. I thought that
was kind of cool. What are you showing me there?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
It's a photo from Bobby who has an inflation ride
shotgun all season long in his car, spreading joy on
the way to the office. I have never seen that.
I've seen cars decorated obviously.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Sure, Oh they'll put the little stupid wreath on their
grill or you know, it'll be fun. Let's have uh,
let's have Rudolph's antlers coming out of our windows.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Nope, that's where the CAP's flag goes.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
But have you seen Santa sitting in the front seat?
Speaker 1 (06:27):
No, no, no, Bobby funny, and I don't think he's
doing it for hov purposes.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
No, no, he's spreading good cheer on the way to
the office.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
That's ridiculous, Elliott, Well, I'm sorry it is you're you're
talking about the amount of cheer. Hey, ridiculous cheer.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Who's driving to the game? Bobby? Oh that's right. We
can't go a Bobby's car because freaking san is sitting there.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
All right, we'll take two cars to Army Navy.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Where am I going? Line six? Hi? Ellie had the morning?
Speaker 6 (06:57):
Hey, good morning?
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Hey? Who's this?
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (07:00):
You got Steve from Richmond? How are you?
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (07:02):
I'm doing well. I don't know what you're calling me
about at this point.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
Oh, dude, you were asking, get me somebody who's been
to Graceland.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Oh, yeah, so you've been to You've been to Graceland
for Christmas time?
Speaker 6 (07:13):
Totally. That place is lit, is it?
Speaker 3 (07:19):
I mean I would assume the answer is yes. Is
it real? Gaudy? No?
Speaker 6 (07:24):
You know what, one room is gaudy. So he's got
this room called the Animal Room, and it's gaudy as
all can be, dude, but it's well worth the visit.
The place is absolutely amazing. It's stunning throughout and as
soon as you walk in the door, he's got a
peacock room where a piano is, and then directly it
(07:45):
cross from that. It is the whitest, most curious, brightest
Christmas you ever seen in your life.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
You know, it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
The only time I've been to Memphis twice, and neither
time could I drag myself to make the the excoursion
to grace. I'm not a big Elvis person, so.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
I yeah, no I'm not.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I don't dislike the guy, but it's not like I'm
not I'm not taking time to go out to Graceland
and go on the tour. Although I mean no, I'm
not going. I've been there twice. Who am I kidding?
But I mean if that was like scheduled in of
like we have to go, then I would go. But yeah,
just on my own. I'm not going.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I got tickets.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Yeah, but the but it is done up a lot
for for for Christmas.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
Absolutely. As you walked through, every other room is reminding
you what time of the year it is. It's It's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
I did read, thank you, sir.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I did read an interesting little factoid about Christmas at Graceland.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
Let me grab line two real quickly. Hi Elliet the morning. Hello, Hi,
who is this?
Speaker 5 (08:53):
This is Becky. I just went to Graceland last week?
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Did you really?
Speaker 5 (08:58):
I did. I stayed in the guest how house next door,
and I took the v P Christmas tour at night
to see the lights and the decorations that the house.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Can I, Becky?
Speaker 5 (09:09):
Can?
Speaker 3 (09:09):
I can?
Speaker 4 (09:09):
I ask?
Speaker 3 (09:10):
What is the What is there's a you could stay
at a guest house.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
Yes, there's a big like a resort hotel built next
door called the house.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
It's not like, oh okay, so it looks like a
Hampton in that they put up next to No it does.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
I love a Hampton.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
But this was designed with his aesthetic in mind.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
It looks like a yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Yeah, they serve. They serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
at night before bed. They have live music in the
in the lobby, and they show Elvis movies every day
at seven.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Oh god, now did they did they? Wait?
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Hold on, yes, Tyler, there's the TV and j sandwich bar.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
Yeah, it is true.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
How expensive?
Speaker 1 (10:01):
How expensive a night was that room?
Speaker 5 (10:05):
You know, probably just like the Omni and Baltimore and
a much better experience. I want to say, maybe two
fifty three hundred a nights something like that.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
I'm an Elvis fan and so it was a definitely
an early experience.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Yeah. Yeah, how close to agree.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
With the other caller because I'm from Essex and I
didn't find the Christmas lights gaudy at all. I thought
they could have used about ten times as many.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
But you come from Yeah, no, that's fine. Wait, I'm sorry, Tyler.
You had a question.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
So how close is this to Graceland.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
That guest house. Yes, it's right next door. You could
walk over to grace When if they let you, I know,
you could walk over. But they have a little shuttle
that takes you there, and you're there in like a minute.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
And what do you walk over there in?
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Okay, well, I mean.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
I think most people in there.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Walker, But I say, I bet those fans are skewing old.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
Now.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
I don't know if they make a big deal about this.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
However, I found this factoid about Graceland. The staff at
Elvis Presley's Graceland drapes the dining room's Christmas tree every
year with the original tinsel that Elvis hung. But they
respectfully forgo Elvis's method, which was bawling it up and
throwing it at the tree.
Speaker 5 (11:33):
But I did have time to spend with the archives
the archivists there, and that is the truth. I don't
know about balling it up and throwing in the tree.
But they did say that they take it down one piece.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Of a time, oh God.
Speaker 5 (11:46):
Yes, every year, and bring it back out every year
and put it back up one piece of a time.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
At least Christmas. I don't know Christmas Jesus.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
One. My husband's been here sleeping. He'll sing it for you.
Do you think blue Christmas for Elliott in the morning? Okay,
you ready?
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Oh how.
Speaker 6 (12:14):
Christmas without you?
Speaker 2 (12:18):
I'll be so blue?
Speaker 6 (12:21):
Depposed to thinking about you.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
You be all right.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Away?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
But oh.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
Christmas? Great?
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Hey, was that the first time?
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Obviously, like you said, the husband's a fan, Is that
the first time you two have been to Graceland for Christmas?
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yes, yes, it was.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
It was very nice.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Oh my god, he must have felt like he died
and went to heaven.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
It was actually a big surprise. I didn't even tell
him where we were going, and I took him to
b Wi. He still had no idea, And yeah, I
told him it was about three miles west or three
hours west of where we were landing, and he still
didn't know that Nationals three out east of there. So yeah,
he was pretty surprised.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
You know what, that's a great gift. Good for you,
Good for you, all right, I appreciate Hey, let me
get you a shirt.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
I like you.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Hold on one second, hold on one couple. That's awesome,
that's great. That is gaudy. What am I looking at there?
Oh that's the Elvis tree.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah, look at that tinseil. What else do you notice
in that photo?
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Though?
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Because you see the dining room table right there?
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Hold on, I got hold on? What else?
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Do I know?
Speaker 5 (13:42):
This?
Speaker 3 (13:44):
It's gaudy?
Speaker 2 (13:45):
As hell. There's a lot of gold, that's yeah, and marble.
What are we missing? Wait, hold on, Oh, I know
what you're gonna say. Those are just oversized plates.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
Yes, he's got Chasers Chargers, Chasers.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Yes, yes, I can't believe that guy just woke up.
I know, but he's in that good of voice. I
bet he's been up, like warming yeah, having tea, honey,
he's not waking up. He was in the process of
warming up.
