Speaker 1 (00:00):
There was one moment where I thought I was going
to be able to go.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
And yeah, well the the setup was there, but the
follow through wasn't.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
What does that mean?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
So I got a note.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
From Gary and it just said, hey, are you coming
to the game tomorrow night or tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (00:21):
This was on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
And I wrote him back and said, man, I wish
I was at the game on Friday night, which he knew.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
It was unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
It was magical to be there, but no, I don't
have tickets for the game on Long Island.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Oh, And that was it. You were expecting a reply
from him, and he never replied.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
I thought i'd get something back that was like hey,
I got you. But then I was like, I was like, well,
I mean he's going to be sitting with Wayne and
the family, and he's got work and he's got a
ton of stuff, Like he's not going to throw me
into the into that suite.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
So I thought for one fleeting moment when I was
like I wish, I was like, I thought he would
write back and go, no problem ally it no, but
that that wasn't the That wasn't the case.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
So you wanted to go, you just didn't want to
pay to go.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
The the No.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
I mean it would have been listen. If I would
have got those tickets, I would have gone. I feel
so fortunate that I was able to be there on Friday.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah, like I have.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
I have extreme fomo of everybody that was there yesterday.
But I'm not mad at myself. I'm not mad at
myself if I would have been able to be if
if nothing would have happened on Friday and then he
had tricked yesterday, I would have then I would have
been apoplectic. But I think it was being so high
on Friday night and going to the game.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
But like the high of that, I was content. I
really was. I really really was. It was.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
It was so it was, it was amazing. It was
I I couldn't believe what I was watching. I couldn't
believe that I was seeing what I was seeing take place.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
So I was.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
I was so content on on Friday that it was
I didn't I'm envious, and I do want to hear
from people. I got a bunch of people on hold
that were there.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
But I was.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
I felt like I was part of the experience that
I wasn't. I wasn't kicking myself on on yesterday, Like
I loved watching it. I loved getting to see it
and watch it all unfold. But Friday night was so
magical that I was content, Like it was really good,
Like I didn't feel like I missed out.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
It seemed like, And especially in the postgame coverage with
Alan and Alexa who has decided not to.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Haut or like she's corked the baby, like I don't know.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
What's going I think it was she probably said I
need to be there for this.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
The Can I tell you a fun story about them
real quick?

Speaker 3 (02:59):
But I was going to say though, and Brent and
Boudreau they wished they were up on Long Island.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Oh they did. Oh they didn't say they were content.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
There's a great picture of Alan May going around like
they did. They did the pregame Caps pre game from
out on f Street on Friday night and so all
day on Saturday, like the Caps were like like sending
out pictures and stuff, and they did one where it
was like thanks to the fans, and you saw like
the fans and stuff with Holtby and you know, up

(03:34):
on the up on the day as you had everybody.
There's a great picture of Alan May going around where
he's making hard hands, and they're like, you know, we
love Caps fans, we love Caps fans. Can I tell
you what's really going on? When Alan was making hard hands.
So we were walking by and they were getting ready.

(03:54):
They were in a commercial break and they were getting
ready to go back by, and so from doing the
old cast, like I I know a bunch of the
people who do that. So I was like, hey, let
me just run over and say hi to Alan. They're like,
they're coming back. I was like, it's fine. So I
was over there and I'm yelling Alan, Alan, and the
place it's mobbed all around there of people watching the pregame.
So Alan looks at me and as big as I could,

(04:18):
I give him double birds right to his face. And
Alan he can't. He can't do that, Like he's gonna
be on TV in a second. So he gave me
the hard hand. So that's going through. But they're using
of like we love Cats fans. I was like yeah,
because he couldn't flip me off back.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
It was great on the Today.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
So all right, let me grab some people who were
at ubs yesterday.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Line three, Hi Elliott the morning, Hey Elliott, this is.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Joe How was it, dude? How was it? Oh?

Speaker 4 (04:50):
My god, it was unbelievable. Me and a couple buddies
of mine drove up on Saturday night, picked up our
buddy and reading, and drove up in the morning. And
the closer you got, the more that like hit of
your stomach feeling about what you have the potential to
see right, just grew and grew and grew, and you

(05:11):
know it grows more when you enter the arena, and
then every time he gets on the ice, it's a
collective leaning forward in the seat, skinning half up, no
matter what jersey you're wearing, and you know, the moment
comes and it's just you're in awe that you are

(05:34):
one of the lucky few in the grand perspective of
things that got to be there and witness it. And
you know, we're sitting up in the upper decks and
we're sobbing uncontrollably, and we're screaming and we're hugging, and
you know, it's just an unbelievable atmosphere. And you could
probably tell I don't have much of a voice left, right,

(05:54):
but I wouldn't trade that for the world.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
And it seemed like and again, this is just based
on TV, but it seemed like even Islander fans were, like,
there were Blackhawks fans at the game on Friday night
and who were going crazy for Ov when he when
he tied the record. I have to assume Islanders fans
were equally as as excited and celebrating and clapping and cheering,

(06:20):
uh for for Ov, and that they weren't dicks about it.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Oh yeah, absolutely, it was. It was loud, It was
you know, it was almost I mean, it's not going
to compare to a home game, but it was as
close as it could get.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
For being a road game.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
And I think everyone there has a you know, whether
they're a Caps fan, an Islander stand or just a
hockey fan in general, has the respect and you know,
admiration for what they had the opportunity to see. I
think it is. It is and I personally think that
of any record in any sport, that's probably one of

(06:58):
the most, if not the most impressive, behind you know,
the fifty six game hit streak and MLB, which I
don't think will ever be broken, but you know, that's
right up there with that. And so to think that
you saw something that I don't think in the rest
of my lifetime. I'll let me see broken.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Because hey, can I ask you this, were any Islanders like,
did any Islanders fans find it ironic that when that
both of those records have fallen at an Islanders game,
whether it was Gretzky passing Gordy or Alex passing Wayne,
that that's they both have come against the Islanders.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
I don't, I honestly don't think in the moment that
anyone was thinking about that. It made me so happy,
you know, Yeah, I think it was just pure elation
for anyone who got to be there, and even then
for the people they weren't there, you know, Taps fans
and hockey fans alike. You know, that's just just being
alive for that moment and seeing that moment.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
It was great. It was great, unbelievab.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
I'll tell you the other thing that I really applaud
everybody there, including yourself, that they did when they stopped
the game and they brought Gary out and they introduced Gary,
everybody still bowed, would go it's the right thing to do.
It's the right thing to do, all right, dude, Hey, congratulations, I'm.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Very I'm very I don't even want to say envious.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
I really am so content, but I'm so happy for
you to have been a part of it.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
I am elated, but I'm happy for Cast fans everywhere.
You know, it's a huge thing for our city and
our fan base. So it's great, great to be there,
but it's a present for all of us.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
All right, dude, I appreciate it. Thank you, Thank you,
my friend.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
I hope that I would sounds as the same if
I would if Gary would have been like, oh I
have a ticket, or if I would have been completely
the other way.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Like that guy is. He's excited for everybody.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Oh you're worried. You would have just thought about yourself. Yeah,
you know what, I think that that is justified concern.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Let me grab line eight. Hi Elliet the morning. Hi, Hi,
I am doing great.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Who is this? Oh Molly, Hey, Molly, you were there yesterday.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
Yeah, it was awesome and it was crazy how we
got too. My cousin is an Islanders season ticket holder,
so like back in February, he texted and it was like, listen,
y'all are coming up here around the time, WIBE could
possibly break the records.

Speaker 6 (09:36):
You want to get tickets?

Speaker 7 (09:37):
We can all go the planned this month ago and
it worked out beautifully.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
That's awesome. Good for you? Was it?

Speaker 5 (09:45):
It was so cool?

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Two questions?

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Number one, did you feel like you were living part
of a dream when it when it happened?

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (09:54):
God, yes, And like my little what my seven year
old played hockey and so she has been following this
all season and it's so stoked. So like it it
was great that I got to be there, but it
was even more special that, like she got to be
there and I got to see her experience.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
It was awesome.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah, I mean, it's amazing. And that's that's what Friday
and night felt like. And I didn't even see him
past the record. It was just tie the record. It
felt like you were living in a dream. It just
it just it was so surreal. What was what was
taking place? It was and going into the game, he
needed three and you were and but when you got there,
you were like, oh, hell, he's got a really good

(10:32):
chance to do this. Today you're asking a guy to
go out and score a hat trick and he got two.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
And then the same thing yesterday.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
It was I don't it was just a foregone conclusion
where it felt like in my stomach it felt like, oh,
he breaks it today, Like he's just superhuman.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
He breaks it today.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
There are people who go weeks without scoring, there are
people who go years without scoring a goal. But you
go into it going, oh, yeah, he'll do it today.
He's superhuman. He'll just get it done. That's crazy, that's
not I'm so happy that did you cry?

Speaker 7 (11:04):
I did not cry, but I screamed a lot.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Okay, that's good. I teared up, got my pussy all right,
very good.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
I don't know why you keep saying that's so ridiculous.
The everyone, minus the tough bitch on the line, everyone cried.
Locker was crying in the booth. You could hear it.
Every time we tried to talk. His voice cracked.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Did it really? Oh yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:25):
And then he said, and I agree, And I can't imagine,
thank you, ma'am, what it was like being there.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Locker was like, I don't even know what the score
of the game is. He couldn't He could not process
the rest of the commentary right, and was relying heavily,
and Joe even said, that's why I'm here relying heavily.
I'm ben naughty to cover the rest of the game.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
What about after the game, though, when Baxstrom came up
to him in the locker.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Room, Backstrom was bawling, yeah, but rightfully so like it
was great.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Oh my god, was it great?

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Do you think that during the on ice celebration when
Ov acknowledged Oshi and Backstorm, Devonte Smith Keelly was like,
God damn it since he was sitting right there with them.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
The the the only part of the on I celebration
that I didn't like was seeing Pro toss in that
walking boot.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Oh he got he got dinged up on Friday night?

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Didn't he get his foot cut?

Speaker 2 (12:28):
The Yeah, he's he's they they said he's weak to
week I need him back right after that Pittsburgh game,
Like I need him back in the Like.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
That's what I mean.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Like now I gotta start focusing on the playoffs. But
you know what, you know what was so great about
the weekend is it really like the the NHL.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
And I'm biased, I do.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
I do believe for a number of reasons hockey is
the greatest sport in the world.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
But goddamn they got it right. They got everything about
it right.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
The ceremony was great, The respect of everybody involved was great.
Like ever, Gary was awesome. The everything about it was.
Everything about it was a home run, a home run.
The handshake line done well, yeah, everything about it. And
that's where I sit there and go no sport even
comes close. I did get nervous, Like hockey is by

(13:16):
far the greatest sport in the world.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
You did hear maybe not rumors, but suggestions about how
much time was going to be allotted for the ceremony, right,
And it did take them a while to get going right,
So that made me nervous. Not that they were had
to stop at a certain point, Like it's not like
they were going to cut off Alex from speaking, right.

(13:38):
It was an Awards show, yeah exactly.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
But they could and Wayne wouldn't give up the mic.
He was up there doing shtick and it took some
time to get the family down down to the ice, right,
But you know what credit the that's when they did
the handshake line with the Islanders. You know, I was
a little disappointed in I was hoping that Patrick Wad
would go out on the ice instead of stay on
the bench.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
I was hoping that wa would go out on the
on the ice.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
I get it why he didn't, though, Like that's that's
a player's thing. But like again, you look at the
like they were talking about you had you had Gretzky there,
you had Alex there, and you had Patrick Waugh, who's
one of the great goaltenders of all time. Like I
wanted that picture on the on the ice, but man,
oh my god, everything about it was so special.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Let me grab me one you hold online, one hold
on goaltenders. You know, probably felt like, right, great moment
to sort of fall into via someone else's bad luck.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Hunter Shepherd, Yes, yeah, yes, Like he skated up in
the dog pile at the end with uh with Lindgren,
and like in my head, I was like, oh, why
can't it be Logan? But there's part of me that
wanted to go, you think, Hunter, like, ass should I go?
Am I supposed to go? But you go like Ben's cleared, Yeah, no,

(14:57):
you have to go. But he he kind of dragged
up there a little bit towards the end. But he's
also he's got a door exit. He's got a door
exit also so recognizable because of the hair.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Here comes it the goalie to skate up hi Elliot
in the morning.

Speaker 6 (15:14):
Hey, how you doing?

Speaker 1 (15:15):
I am doing great?

Speaker 6 (15:16):
Thank you?

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Who is this?

Speaker 6 (15:18):
This is Garland.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Were you you were there yesterday?

Speaker 6 (15:22):
Yeah, I actually I just I didn't realize until halfway
through the first period the Divection's wife was in the
box next to us.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Oh yeah, the dude I would have spent the whole
time with, like I don't know, I don't know what
condition that is, like lazy eye or something where I'd
have been like, why can't one I just shoot right
the whole time.

Speaker 6 (15:49):
You'll feel like I'm living a dream.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Yeah, it had to feel as I again, I can
only I can only tell you from from being there
on Friday night, and how how unbelievable in surreal it
felt yesterday had to feel like that on steroids.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
I can't even imagine.

Speaker 6 (16:06):
It was like a home game. It was. I was
there Friday. It was very electric there Friday. Don't looked
into tickets for a Sunday's game. It was just only
bad part about having to drive in New York.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
The Yeah, not the easiest arena. Hey, can I ask you?
This is the arena nice.

Speaker 6 (16:24):
Man, Every arena I go to that's not Capital One,
It's a thousand times.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Nicer because I've never I've not been to Ubs Arena. Obviously,
I went to the Nasau Coliseum when the Islanders used
to play there, but I've not been to Ubs. I
have to assume it's nice. I mean, anything's better than
the Nasau Coliseum.

Speaker 6 (16:46):
Oh, I mean it's so nice, it's such nice. Well,
I got tickets to Columbus on Saturdays, so we'll see
if that one's nicer too.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
Wait, so how many games?

Speaker 6 (16:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Like dad, there was a story on I think it
was Channel nine yes her day. I was popping around.
There's a woman. I wrote her name down. Her name
is Melissa Ridgeley. She's retired army. She bought tickets to
every Capital's home and away game in March and April,

(17:15):
just in case. Every game, every home game, every away game.
She bought tickets for every single one.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Did she travel to all those away games? Every single game?

Speaker 3 (17:27):
So she didn't try to then sell it to make
some money back.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
She went every single game.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
Difference between buying tickets and going to the game, you
know from some of your fellow season ticket holders who.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Sell them, drives me nuts, drives me crazy.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
No.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Did she afford the accommodations.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
The oh, she said it was a logistical nightmare like
she relied on friends to be able to stay with
and people she knew and stuff. So yeah, you got
to get there right well. And also she's retired.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
She got all day. It's not a matter of time,
it's a matter of like cost. Yeah, yes, that's true.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
But like if you bought tickets to that Islanders game yesterday,
a couple of months ago, tickets were a hundred bucks.
They weren't eight thousand dollars like they were yesterday.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
Dude, how many more games are you going to?

Speaker 6 (18:15):
I have eight of the last ten, so I got
the rest of the season.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
Oh my god, Oh my god, dude, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
That's great.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Hey, can I ask you this? Are you going to?
Are you going to the Caps Penguins game? The last
game of the season.

Speaker 6 (18:31):
I bought those tickets in August?

Speaker 2 (18:33):
Yeah, that is the one road game that I want
to go to because not because I need to see Sid.
Have to bow that one down to OV. But those two,
and they've both been very honest about it. As much
as those two were enemies at the beginning, they have
created a friendship and a bond over over the last.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
I mean, hell, they came into the league in the
same year.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
I want to see the embrace between Sydney and Alex
at that game, because they will that I want to see.
And listen, Pittsburgh's not going anywhere. That's the last game
of the regular season. OV goes onto the playoffs, SID
goes and golfs so the but that game, that of
all the road games that are left, that's the one
I want to go is to see those two embrace.

(19:20):
But dude, you're going, oh my god, God damn it.

Speaker 6 (19:23):
I'm playing on that being ninety five, but now I'm
planning on that being nine hundred.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Career, so close to a huge number. Yeah, And I
will say this for all of the merchandise, it's kind
of nice. He didn't score twice yesterday, Oh yeah, because
everything says eight ninety five, right, it'd be weird if
they said, well he actually has eight ninety six.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
Yeah right, yeah, no, but still the record, I know.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
But if you're going to the shop this morning, like
everything's plastered with a number, that wouldn't actually be the number,
the current number, right, and you've got four days if
for or three days before he can pop in another one.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
And and you know that's the other Everyone's like nine
hundred nine hundred. It's because you just assume you'll score
five more goals before the end of the year, because
he's a freaking machine.
