Speaker 1 (00:00):
When the on-air mic goes off, the Talk Talk begins.
It's Talk Talk with Martha Quinn. Martha Quinn. And it's
almost Happy New Year.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Almost.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Well, let's not get way ahead of ourselves. I mean,
can we get through Christmas first?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
There's still a few days of Hanukkah left, some days
of Kwanzaa, right?
Speaker 1 (00:21):
My bad. My bad. My bad. But it's crazy to think,
Martha and Christy, that, hello, the year is almost over.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
So soon, we're going to be looking back at the
holiday season like, oh, that was so fun. We can't
wait till next year. So, yeah, enjoy every twinkling light.
Every single Feliz Navidad in the store. Enjoy it all
because it's going to be gone. When do you think
(00:51):
all the holiday lights will get snatched off the trees
and bushes everywhere and get, you know, coiled back up
and put in the garage?
Speaker 5 (01:00):
When do you think that happens?
Speaker 1 (01:01):
January 7th.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Really?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
Do you think that's late or early, Karina Velasquez?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
I think that's kind of early.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
I would say like late January. I have a feeling
people are going to keep their lights up for.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
A lot longer.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Nope.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Maybe the 10th because that's a weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
So the 10th and the 11th. It's coming down. Smash
it all down.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
There have been years in my house when we have
been way late. We've been like, you know, well, okay,
Valentine's Day is here. It's time for it to all
come down. This year, we've been very sparse on the
old holiday decorations. Very, very sparse. But my kids are,
(01:45):
you know, coming home, so we might have to spruce
it up a bit. But at any rate, what episode
of Talk Talk with Martha Quinn is this, Karina Velasquez,
the keeper of the numbers of the episodes?
Speaker 2 (01:53):
266. 266.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
This is the podcast that unites us.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
The Morning Tribe with Christy Live crew, Christy and Karina
Velasquez and the Martha Quinn Show crew, Martha and Karina Velasquez.
And we invite you to join us kind of in
the break room as we're sitting around and chatting. So
it's always fun to have you pull up a chair
and join us and leave us your talkback messages. You
can always comment on something that comes up by grabbing
(02:21):
your phone, tapping that talkback microphone and telling us what's up.
So Karina Velasquez, you have the topic for this week.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
I'm so excited.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
So since we are coming towards the end of the year,
there's always a bunch of lists that comes out, like
the top searched words, the word of the year, the
top songs. But there's also a list of the top
pop culture moments or just moments of 2025. So I'm
just going to name off a few. Some of the
(02:50):
biggest ones, the heist at the Louvre. How do you
say it? Louvre.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
The museum in Paris. Like that was a pretty big one.
I don't think anyone's been caught yet. Yeah, they arrested
a couple of people. They did?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
The fact that people were able to just literally walk
in there, break some glass, and steal some of the
most famous jewels in the whole entire history of jewelry.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah. And just walk right out and ride a scooter
down the street. It's crazy. Is crazy.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
That was a big moment.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Topping the list, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey getting engaged.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Does anybody?
Speaker 3 (03:24):
What?
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Taylor Swift got engaged?
Speaker 4 (03:26):
What?
Speaker 1 (03:27):
I didn't hear anything about that. Okay.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
No, didn't hear anything about that. Are you kidding?
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Who is Taylor Swift? I'm just kidding. No, don't cancel me, y'all.
Don't cancel me.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Also on this list of the top biggest moments in 2025,
the Coldplay scandal.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
The- Astronomer CEO.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Astronomer CEO that got caught on the Jumbotron.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
We actually had a new Pope this year, you guys. Yes.
You remember that?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
And they actually picked the Pope fairly quickly. And- It
was following the big movie, the big Oscar movie.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Oh yeah, which is so good. What is it, Conclave? Conclave.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
So even more people, I think, paid attention to the
Pope the papal selection this year because everyone kind of
knew the process a little bit more from that movie.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, and you know what?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
When he was selected, which I remember, is that his
brother had no clue. His brother was like, oh, I
guess my brother's the pope.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
What do you mean?
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Yeah, he didn't know.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Like, he couldn't tell anyone that he was the pope.
He knew that he was, what is it, like a whatever,
at the Vatican.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
But he didn't know his brother was being selected. So
when they interviewed his brother, he was like.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yeah, I saw it on TV like the rest of
the world that my brother is the new pope.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Interesting. Wow.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah. That's rough if your sibling is the pope.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Right? I can't imagine.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
I mean, you know, what do you do in that situation?
Speaker 4 (04:51):
It's like, well, I guess he's got the, he's got.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
His all kind of.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
That's so crazy.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
That's crazy. What do you think?
Speaker 5 (05:00):
And do you think, what do you get the pope
for Christmas?
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Oh, man. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
If your brother's the Pope, do you still have to
give him a Christmas present?
Speaker 1 (05:09):
You do, and he happens to be a really big
sports fan. Oh, that's true. He is a really big sports.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Fan, and this was a talked-about subject when he was,
I guess, chosen.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
Is it the Chicago Cubs or something?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, he's from Chicago, and he was the first American
to be chosen.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
As the Pope. You're right, Christy. He said, go Cubs.
Someone shouted and he's like, yes. That's so cool. That's cool.
That was very cool. That was cool.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
According to this list of the top moments of.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
2025, the Katy Perry, Gayle King, all of them going
to space.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
The women who went up in Jeff Bezos' spaceship. Yes.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
And- They definitely gave them a lot of flack for that.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
They did.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
But why?
Speaker 4 (05:57):
What was the big controversy about that? That's one headline
that I didn't kind of go down that rabbit hole. Like,
what was the controversy about that?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
I think for a lot of people, they felt like
this is an extravagant show of wealth, number one.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
It's unnecessary for the impact of the environment and the
way that people were hyping up the story and referring
to them as astronauts and talking about them as if
they were, you know, breaking down barriers and going to space.
And people were like, they're celebrities. This is a rich
(06:34):
person's activity. It's a fun thing for them to do.
The money could be better spent doing something else. And
then when they came back, when Katy Perry landed.
She kissed the ground, and she was really excited, and
she made, like, some statement. And people are like, oh, gosh,
you didn't just, like, discover, you know, a planet on
(06:57):
the moon.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
You went up in Jeff Bezos' toy, essentially.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah, but she was, Christy's saying, which sounded kind of real,
saying she was an astronaut now.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
And people were very upset. Like, really, in order to
be an astronaut, you got to go to school. You
have to put in your dues. You have to really
earn money.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
That title, you don't just get to go on your friend,
the billionaire's rocket. And so I think that's why people
were kind of upset. I think it was misplaced. I
don't think these women should have gotten the hate and
vitriol that they did.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
I mean, other celebrities have done it. William Shatner did it.
Other celebrities have done it. It doesn't seem like it's
that big of a deal. But I'm an airline pilot
because I did fly on an American Airlines flight actually recently.
So I just want to let you all know that
I'm an airline pilot now.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
I'm also a train conductor.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
There you go. There you go. See, so I think
that kind of.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yeah, and according to Reader's Digest, well, along with other lists,
the top two moments of 2025, number two is.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Okay, give us a hint.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Give us a hint.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Okay, someone finally winning big, an artist. Finally, after many, many,
many nods.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
I know.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yeah, Christy would know, so yeah. Beyonce got Album of
the Year. Woo, Martha Quinn for the win. Yes.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
For Cowboy Carter.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
And people were upset with her about that. It's like,
come on.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Can't people just have a good time and you just
celebrate the win?
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Let's just celebrate the win.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Do you guys want to take a guess at number one?
I will say it was the biggest craze this year.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
The biggest craze this year. The biggest craze this year.
I would say La Boo Boo's. Yes, number one. Nice one.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
The La Boo Boo craze that people spent millions and
millions of dollars on.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
The La Boo Boo craze. Number one.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
So, which leads me to wanting to ask you guys,
Martha Quinn, Christy, what has been the biggest moment for
you guys of 2025?
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Pop culture-wise?
Speaker 1 (09:07):
No, in general. It could be in your life.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Dang, I had such a good one that I was
thinking of recently. And now I can't remember. Can I
just mention my pop culture one? Which is Justin Bieber
became a dad.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
That was this year?
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Was it?
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Was it? No, I think it was. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
It seems like it flew by recently. Let's just say. Okay.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
2024, 2025.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
We'll just say.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Do you have a moment in your head, Martha? Because
I know one.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
For me or for you?
Speaker 1 (09:34):
For you.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
Give me a hint.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Oh, okay. I know what it is.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Oh, okay.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
I do have a good one. I was inducted into
the Radio Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
And I do have to get a hold of my speech, ladies, because...
I want you to know that in my speech, you
figured prominently and I've got to get a hold. I
have my whole speech and I have to figure out
how to, you know, pull out the spot where I
mentioned the three of you.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
You two and our boss, little Ricky.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
All of you got major shout outs. Thank you. Yeah,
I would say Martha for you. What you got any
other one? Big moments for you in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
Let me think about it. Christy, how about you?
Speaker 3 (10:15):
I can't think of anything significant except for the fact
that I really did a lot of DJing for the
Golden State Valkyries.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
That's dope.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
You know, kind of stepping into a role to really
be one of their go to community DJs and just DJs.
And yeah, I really appreciate that and the work that
they're doing. If you don't know, the Golden State Valkyries
are the WNBA team in the Bay Area. This was
their inaugural season and it was really cool. They made
it to the playoffs their first season. And it was
(10:49):
a lot of fun because I got to meet some
of the players and really just engage with the community,
which is what I really love to do, and also
play some awesome music.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
So that was a really good time.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
And I went to a resort for Olivia Cruises. It's
like a women's vacation line. And I've been DJing for
them for years. But this time we went on a
Punta Cana in Dominican Republic tour.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Resort.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
I was with one of my best friends, Janine, and
I had a great time and some of the best
DJ sets I think I've had ever.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
So it was fun. And Christy, you also bought a house.
I did buy a house this year.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Yeah, that's pretty big because you were asking to sleep
on my couch, which wasn't going to happen.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Yeah, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
I did buy a house and got the heck away
from the Horrible, creepy HOA.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
So that's a good thing, too. What about you, Karina?
I think you guys already know. I practically settled down now.
I met a great guy. That's cool. I think that's
pretty significant. I thought I might have been single forever. No.
But let's see.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Yeah, that's pretty much it. I met a really great
person in my life. So and it's been going really good,
really fast and pretty easy.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
OK. Yeah, that's it. All right.
Speaker 5 (12:12):
That's pretty big. That is pretty big.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
I don't know what else happened this year, but yeah. Oh,
and I'll be going to the sphere next year.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
That's all.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
Oh, that's a good one. I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
I was gifted, no doubt, at the Sphere next year.
So that's also.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
I'm so curious to hear what that's like. Christy, you
haven't been to the Sphere, have you?
Speaker 1 (12:31):
No, I have not.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
I feel like it's.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
Going to be, this is what I think, Karina. And
when you go, you'll be like our advanced team. I
feel like it's going to be too big and too
scary for me. Like, I'll be like, help, I'm falling.
You know, like everything will be surrounding me. It'll be
these like images. It'll be big and kind of overtaking
the whole experience. I feel like I'm going to feel
(12:53):
dizzy and like I want to pass out.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Yeah, I hear a lot of great things about it.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
I mean, I'm sure there's certain areas where if you sit,
it's a lot better. But one of our co-workers here,
she went to go see The Backstreet Boys at the Sphere.
And she said it was great. That the experience, it's very,
very visually entertaining. Like, it's really, really cool.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
But I will. When I go in May, I shall
report back.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Brian May of Queen said that he went and saw U2.
And it was the most amazing thing he's ever seen.
So I thought, okay, okay, got to check it out,
got to check it out.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Yeah, and right now they have, I don't know if
you've seen, Martha, they're showing The Wizard of Oz. Oh, yes, yes, yes,
that's very cool. They have apples that fall out into
the audience, like, well, soft apples.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Like toy apples.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
I know.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
I was going to say that.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
No, no, no.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
I hate her in that. Let me rephrase that.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
These cute little soft toy apples that fall from the top.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
And I'm like, that's pretty cool. It's a fully immersive experience.
Thank you. That's what it was. Do you know how
much people are paying to see The Wizard of Oz?
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Oh, no.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
How much? At the Sphere. How much? Take a wild guess. $ 2, 000. Oh,
my God.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
Oh, that's too high?
Speaker 3 (14:07):
$ 500?
Speaker 1 (14:07):
$ 300 and something dollars. That's actually.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Well, they have actual monkeys flying around.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
It seems pretty cool, though.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
They got to be fed.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Come on. Well, thank you.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Shout out to my daughter, Annabelle, who had her big
wedding in New Zealand this year.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
That's what I thought. Oh, that's right.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
That was definitely a highlight.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Yeah. I am left my house and went far away.
I know.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
That's what I was thinking for your twenty twenty five
was the wedding.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Well, thank you guys. That was fun.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
That was super fun.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Thank you for checking out episode number two.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Sixty six.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
266 of Talk Talk with Martha Quinn until number 267.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
I'm Martha Quinn.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
I'm Christy. I'm Karina Velasquez.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Miss you already.
