Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Joel Malcolm for w J and O dot com
and there is going to be an event at a
local church. This is Oasis Church, Southern Boulevard in Wellington.
Not a church event, but the Colson Center and Focus
on the Family have put out a documentary called Truth Rising.
And we have a listener to the Brian mud Show
(00:21):
here on w J and O who he and his
wife are parishioners at the Oasis Church. It's on Southern
Boulevard and Wellington where this event will be happening Friday night,
and we wanted him to come on and talk to
us more about the documentary and some of the events
linked to it. It is Kevin Krieger. Thank you for
(00:42):
joining me.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Thank you. I'm glad that I can be with you
and share some of these details.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Yeah, you reached out to us, and you know, we
found this a pretty compelling topic here, especially in the
wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. And we do
hear a lot about a Christian movement happening around the
country in the wake of that situation. And I understand
(01:12):
that this film actually came out just a few days
prior to it.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yes, it came out September fifth, we were already in
the process of watching the movie, my wife and I
and our friends, said Leland, and after watching it, we said,
we've got to be involved in this, and it happened
to be five days later when the assassination of Kirk occurred.
(01:43):
A couple days later, I got an email from Melissa
and she said, we're thinking about doing something, and we said,
we want to do the thing. So we came together
and set it up and made a plan and made
some arrangements.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
So before we get into the details about the about
the event, and then of course there is a four
week follow up study as well, and I'll want you
to share that too. Tell me about Truth Rising. Obviously,
I don't expect you to explain the entire it's probably
what about a two hour documentary or whatever, But you know,
(02:21):
what is the basic background of this film.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yes, it's a documentary. It's about ninety minutes long. This
film deals with current topics that are earned at all
of us really at a very crucial time in our
society and culture. This film through through the film, each
of us that engages with it, we are dealing with
(02:46):
real and important talks like absolute truth. I believe things
like identity, morality, and faith that are clear, and how
our present Western culture and society is trying to completely
rewrite the meaning of each of those. So it's kind
of a call to action for us as Christians, for
(03:07):
people who want to wake up and deal with something
more than a daily living, just going day away, having
purpose for why we are here on this earth. All
of it's rooted in absolute truth and belief in a
creator who places us here for a purpose.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Is Do you feel that the goal of the documentary
is to maybe convert or is it more a call
to action for people who are already Christian but are
maybe not focusing on their faith as much as they should.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I think it's I think it's mainly as for all
of us as Christians, but I think it is a
really good with call for us as Christians. I feel
I'm a follower of Christ, but I was very challenged
and realized I need to do much more. I need
to be more bold in my stance for what I
(04:04):
believe and for what truth is, and that I need
to be willing to take those risks and to speak
to people that maybe I wouldn't have spoken to about
truth or some of these topics and to stand up
for those when people say, oh, I think this is
right and you shouldn't say anything against it, well maybe
(04:27):
I should be saying something in a right way, in
a clear way, to state my beliefs in what i've
even the Bible and Judeo Christian values, and especially in
what I believe the Christian and following.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Fight, you know, we talk about Charlie Kirk and one
of the things that I noticed in the videos I've
watched of him. Never never met him in person personally,
but was you know, with somebody would would would come up,
obviously not a Christian, and they would ask him questions.
I know there were some people that were trans and
(05:04):
while informing them well as a Christian, I believe this,
whether it was abortion, trades or whatnot, he never berated them,
but just would say, I believe, you know, you should
do this, but you know, you're you're still I watched
one where it was somebody was homosexual and was was
a guy, and he was he was kind of nervous,
(05:26):
you could tell, and and but but I you know,
I would like to be part of a conservative move
and he says, welcome. You know, we we welcome you.
I wanted to get your thoughts on some of that.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Well, I'm not a philosopher. Through studying being uh, the
things that are being discussed in this film and all
the I when I heard about Kirk's death, I knew
of him, but my kids better about him. But I
went my research. What is he saying? What is what
did he say that? And why would people be so
(06:02):
divided over it? And Yet as I looked, and I
know there are people who are spinning certain stories and
saying this is what he did and this is why
he did it, you know, getting nasty unfortunately, But as
I looked at it, I saw the same thing you did.
And overall I saw that he was trying to speak truth,
(06:24):
and he was trying to do it in a loving way,
and he was listening and he wanted to make sure
that people knew why he believed what he believed. And
over all of that, I know there were political ramifications,
but over all of that, if you keep listening, you
hear is true faith in Jesus Christ and that being
(06:45):
his main message, that that's why he's out there trying
to convince people of the resurrected Jesus Christ. I think
that's what came through for me and why we want
to do this, and it is something that we have
to deal with as the church in dealing with some
of these philosophies and things that have been changed as
(07:10):
far as the trans or LGBTQ community, we need to
be willing to talk and in love speak the truth
and yet be willing to listen and help do what
we can to bring them closer to the truth as
they are in a journey. And that is addressed even
(07:31):
in this movie with one of of a young lady
who moves from being a lady to transitioning to a
male and then determining that through her faith in Jesus Christ,
that she was totally confused and just duped into not
(07:52):
understanding what was going on the experiences of what she
called gender affirming care, and that is she transitioned back
to a woman and now she is fighting for those
rights for asolescents to not be changing without understanding their
true identity and who they are in the image of God.
(08:12):
So those are important issues and we want to talk
about them, but it can be talked about and they
are addressed, and we want to do that in the
right way, in the christ like way that we can.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
All right, So here the deal that is happening locally.
This is this Friday, October twenty fourth, six thirty pm.
This is anyone in the public is welcome, Yes, and
well I figured that, but I just want to make sure.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I'd love to have We'd love to have anyone who
would like to come and hear the film, see the film,
and then stay around for the study of each of
the four Friday nights following it, where we'll kind of
open up some of those main truths that that are
discussed in the film. We'd love to have people.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Yes, those so those four weeks. So it's Friday, the
twenty fourth for the film, and then the following Friday
would be the first one on the Halloween evening.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Yes, okay, yes, yes, Unfortunately that might kind of conflict
with some people's plans, but we're at a stage of
life where it doesn't affect us too much, right and
we we would rather do this than maybe celebrating that holiday.
Some people are fine with that. We're happy to not
(09:33):
sit out in the mosquitos and go out candy. There's
many many less kids coming around anyway.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yeah, all right, so is so are each of the
four weeks also going to be at six thirty just
like the movie time.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Yep, six thirty, and we'll be out of there by
a little after eighty eight fifteen, hopefully on each of
the nights. We'll respect everyone's time.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Is there anything else anybody needs to know if they
want to show up there this Friday?
Speaker 2 (10:01):

be a part of that. I think I'm gonna Joel,

want to get onto the site where we are just

(10:26):

they can sign up there too.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
